Let's bow our heads for prayer. 00:00:30.39\00:00:31.83 Our loving heavenly Father, what a joy it is to be in 00:00:31.86\00:00:36.73 Your presence today. 00:00:36.80\00:00:38.13 We thank You Father for Your Holy Word, 00:00:38.17\00:00:41.24 because it's a sure guide in a world that doesn't know where to 00:00:41.27\00:00:46.11 turn; in a world that's confused about Bible prophecy. 00:00:46.14\00:00:50.18 We ask, Father, that You will open our understanding today 00:00:50.21\00:00:53.85 that we might be able to comprehend about the beast 00:00:53.88\00:00:56.62 that rises from the earth. 00:00:56.65\00:00:58.22 I ask, Lord, that You will remove preconceived 00:00:58.25\00:01:01.42 notions from our minds, and You will help us only 00:01:01.46\00:01:05.53 to hear Your voice. 00:01:05.56\00:01:06.90 And we thank You for hearing our prayer 00:01:06.93\00:01:09.03 for we ask it in the precious name of Jesus, Amen. 00:01:09.06\00:01:13.60 In last time's presentation we studied about the beast that 00:01:13.64\00:01:21.58 rose from the sea. 00:01:21.61\00:01:24.28 And we noticed that that beast that rose from the sea 00:01:24.31\00:01:27.62 is a symbol of the Roman Catholic papacy. 00:01:27.65\00:01:32.52 I want to make it very clear that we are not opposed 00:01:32.55\00:01:37.33 to Roman Catholics. 00:01:37.39\00:01:38.93 We're talking about a system. 00:01:38.96\00:01:41.20 We're not talking about the individuals within that system. 00:01:41.23\00:01:45.03 There are very many sincere, loving Christians within that 00:01:45.07\00:01:50.67 communion, but we're talking about the Roman Catholic Church 00:01:50.74\00:01:54.64 as an organization, or as a hierarchy. 00:01:54.68\00:01:58.35 Now you remember, if you were here this time, that we noticed 00:01:58.38\00:02:03.05 that the fourth beast of Daniel 7 has four stages of dominium. 00:02:03.08\00:02:09.79 The first stage of dominion is, of course, the dragon 00:02:09.82\00:02:13.23 beast ruling by itself. 00:02:13.26\00:02:14.96 That represents the Roman Empire. 00:02:15.00\00:02:16.77 Then from the head of that dragon beast come ten horns, 00:02:16.83\00:02:21.64 which represent the ten divisions of the Roman Empire. 00:02:21.67\00:02:25.97 The Roman Empire was fragmented as a result of 00:02:26.01\00:02:28.88 the barbarian invasions. 00:02:28.91\00:02:30.61 And then we notice that a little horn rises among the ten. 00:02:30.65\00:02:34.52 That represents the Roman Catholic papacy, which ruled for 00:02:34.55\00:02:38.22 1,260 years, from 538 to 1798, when the pope was taken prisoner 00:02:38.25\00:02:46.06 by Napoleon's, General Berthier. 00:02:46.09\00:02:49.10 And then we notice that there was a period of time in which 00:02:49.13\00:02:52.30 that little horn, or the beast, remained inactive, 00:02:52.33\00:02:56.37 because the secular governments of the world maintained 00:02:56.40\00:03:00.28 this system bound. 00:03:00.31\00:03:01.64 In other words they did not allow this system to use them. 00:03:01.68\00:03:04.88 The Bible uses the symbolism of the sword. 00:03:04.91\00:03:09.58 They did not allow the church to use the sword of the state. 00:03:09.62\00:03:13.86 And so for about 200 years after the French Revolution 00:03:13.89\00:03:17.83 the Roman Catholic Church has not been able to use the civil 00:03:17.86\00:03:20.93 powers of the world to persecute. 00:03:20.96\00:03:23.33 We noticed also in our study that this deadly wound is 00:03:23.37\00:03:27.60 going to be healed. 00:03:27.64\00:03:28.97 The sword is going to be returned once 00:03:29.00\00:03:30.97 again to this system. 00:03:31.01\00:03:32.67 And all of the world, the Bible says, is going to wander after 00:03:32.71\00:03:37.11 this system, is going to wander after the beast. 00:03:37.15\00:03:39.75 And you say, How in the world could this wound be healed? 00:03:39.78\00:03:44.25 How is it possible that any nation in the world would allow 00:03:44.29\00:03:48.79 this system, once again, to climb on it, and to use that 00:03:48.82\00:03:54.56 government, or to use that secular power as a sword, 00:03:54.60\00:03:59.20 to persecute, once again, those who are not in harmony 00:03:59.23\00:04:02.30 with the teachings of the church? 00:04:02.34\00:04:03.91 Well, today we're going to study a little bit about the healing 00:04:03.94\00:04:08.71 of that deadly wound. 00:04:08.74\00:04:10.15 We're going to identify a second beast in Revelation 13. 00:04:10.18\00:04:13.62 This beast does not rise from the sea. 00:04:13.65\00:04:17.22 It rises from the earth. 00:04:17.29\00:04:18.89 And this beast is actually going to return the sword 00:04:18.92\00:04:22.89 to the first beast. 00:04:22.92\00:04:24.26 You see, this second beast from the earth is going to make an 00:04:24.33\00:04:28.70 image of the first beast. 00:04:28.73\00:04:30.53 This second beast is going to command all of the world 00:04:30.57\00:04:34.54 to worship the first beast. 00:04:34.57\00:04:36.34 In fact, this second beast is going to command every one 00:04:36.37\00:04:40.64 on earth to receive the mark of the best. 00:04:40.68\00:04:43.61 By the way, in the future we're going to have one lecture on the 00:04:43.65\00:04:46.35 image to the beast. 00:04:46.38\00:04:47.72 We're going to have another lecture on the 00:04:47.75\00:04:49.48 mark of the beast. 00:04:49.52\00:04:50.85 And we're going to have still another one on the 00:04:50.89\00:04:52.89 number of the beast. 00:04:52.92\00:04:54.26 So each one of those aspects we're going to study. 00:04:54.29\00:04:57.39 But today we want to identify the power, or the nation, 00:04:57.43\00:05:01.63 that is going to return the sword to the sea beast, 00:05:01.66\00:05:05.37 or to the Roman Catholic papacy. 00:05:05.40\00:05:07.24 In fact, do you know that the Bible says that when the sword 00:05:07.27\00:05:11.14 is returned to the sea beast, that the sea beast is actually 00:05:11.17\00:05:15.71 going to be able to kill, through this power, 00:05:15.74\00:05:18.58 through this nation that rises, is going to be able to kill 00:05:18.61\00:05:22.02 everyone who is not in harmony with her teachings. 00:05:22.05\00:05:26.12 You find that in Revelation 13: 15 where it says: 00:05:26.15\00:05:30.66 Yes, persecution will arise again just like it existed 00:05:42.94\00:05:48.01 during the Middle Ages. 00:05:48.04\00:05:49.68 Now let's read about this beast that rises from the earth, 00:05:49.71\00:05:53.98 that is going to help the first beast get its power back. 00:05:54.02\00:05:57.45 Revelation 13:11, Revelation 13:11. 00:05:57.49\00:06:04.16 Other versions say, He had two horns like a lamb but he 00:06:14.47\00:06:18.54 spoke like a dragon. 00:06:18.57\00:06:20.08 Now the remarkable thing about this second beast, 00:06:20.11\00:06:23.08 this earth beast, is that it has a split personality. 00:06:23.11\00:06:27.35 In other words, it has a positive side, 00:06:27.42\00:06:31.12 and it has a negative side. 00:06:31.15\00:06:32.52 The positive side are the two horns like a lamb. 00:06:32.55\00:06:36.52 Because we're going to notice in Revelation that the lamb 00:06:36.56\00:06:38.83 represents Jesus Christ. 00:06:38.86\00:06:40.30 So this beast has a positive side: the two horns like a lamb. 00:06:40.33\00:06:44.33 But it says that this same beast that has two horns like a lamb, 00:06:44.37\00:06:48.84 speaks like what? like a dragon. 00:06:48.87\00:06:51.61 Let me ask you, What similarity is there between 00:06:51.64\00:06:55.04 a dragon and a lamb? 00:06:55.08\00:06:56.48 No similarity at all! 00:06:57.61\00:06:59.25 And yet in this one beast you find these two characteristics: 00:06:59.28\00:07:03.32 two horns like a lamb. 00:07:03.35\00:07:05.19 It has two aspects like a lamb, but it speaks like a dragon. 00:07:05.22\00:07:09.89 In other words it has a dual personality. 00:07:09.92\00:07:13.36 It has a split personality. 00:07:13.43\00:07:16.36 I want you to notice that it's not that this beast has two 00:07:16.40\00:07:21.20 horns like a lamb, and then the two horns are broken. 00:07:21.24\00:07:24.81 In other words it ceases being like a lamb, 00:07:24.84\00:07:27.58 and then it speaks like a dragon when the two horns are broken. 00:07:27.61\00:07:30.95 No. The Bible says that it speaks like a dragon even while 00:07:30.98\00:07:36.25 it still have the two horns. 00:07:36.28\00:07:37.92 In other words, it professes one thing, 00:07:37.95\00:07:40.99 but it actually lives another. 00:07:41.02\00:07:43.83 In other words, it professes two principles, 00:07:43.86\00:07:46.83 we're going to notice, that Christ entertained. 00:07:46.90\00:07:49.76 And it's going to say, We believe in that, but at the same 00:07:49.80\00:07:52.60 time it's going to persecute like the 00:07:52.63\00:07:54.74 dragon of Revelation 12. 00:07:54.77\00:07:56.87 Now let's identify this lamb beast. 00:07:56.91\00:07:59.67 Let's see... Actually it's not a land beast, but the beast that 00:07:59.71\00:08:02.64 has two horns like a lamb. 00:08:02.68\00:08:04.18 Let's review the order of kingdoms that we 00:08:04.21\00:08:07.45 studied last time. 00:08:07.48\00:08:08.82 You remember that we have a lion. 00:08:08.85\00:08:10.72 What kingdom does the lion represent? Babylon. 00:08:10.75\00:08:14.29 Then we have a bear. 00:08:14.32\00:08:15.66 What kingdom does the bear represent? 00:08:15.69\00:08:17.16 the Medes and Persians. 00:08:17.19\00:08:18.79 Then we have a leopard. 00:08:18.83\00:08:20.16 What kingdom does the leopard represent? Greece. 00:08:20.23\00:08:22.90 Then we have a dragon beast. 00:08:22.93\00:08:24.63 And what does that dragon beast represent? Rome. 00:08:24.67\00:08:28.07 And then that dragon beast grows ten horns. 00:08:28.10\00:08:30.61 What do the ten horns represent that come from the head of Rome, 00:08:30.64\00:08:34.01 of the dragon beast? 00:08:34.08\00:08:35.41 It represents Rome, that was divided into ten kingdoms 00:08:35.44\00:08:38.35 as a result of the barbarian invasions. 00:08:38.38\00:08:40.72 476 is the key date. 00:08:40.75\00:08:42.92 That's when the last Roman emperor was deposed. 00:08:42.95\00:08:45.82 And then you have the little horn, which represents 00:08:45.85\00:08:48.82 the papacy, which, by the way, is Roman also. 00:08:48.86\00:08:51.83 It comes from the head of the dragon beast, which is Rome. 00:08:51.86\00:08:54.66 And it rules for 1260 years. 00:08:54.73\00:08:57.43 But then at the end of the 1260 years, it receives a what? 00:08:57.47\00:09:01.77 a deadly wound. The sword that it used to persecute 00:09:01.80\00:09:05.97 now turns against it. 00:09:06.01\00:09:07.78 In other words, the sword is taken out of its hand. 00:09:07.81\00:09:10.71 And the sword rises against it and gives it a deadly wound. 00:09:10.78\00:09:14.68 And for awhile this beast is inactive; this sea beast is 00:09:14.72\00:09:19.62 inactive because it has a deadly wound. 00:09:19.65\00:09:22.42 But the Bible says that its deadly wound 00:09:22.46\00:09:25.19 is going to be what? healed. 00:09:25.23\00:09:27.50 Now I want you to notice something very 00:09:27.56\00:09:29.96 interesting about this beast. 00:09:30.00\00:09:31.40 When this first beast falls, when the sea beast receives 00:09:31.43\00:09:34.67 its deadly wound, at that moment is when this land beast rises. 00:09:34.70\00:09:38.74 So we have a chronological detail to know exactly when 00:09:38.77\00:09:42.08 this beast is going to arise in the flow of history. 00:09:42.11\00:09:45.01 Let's notice several characteristics. 00:09:45.05\00:09:46.85 Characteristic 1. of this land beast that is going to give 00:09:46.92\00:09:50.79 the sword back to the sea beast. 00:09:50.82\00:09:52.62 And it's going to impose the mark of the sea beast. 00:09:52.65\00:09:55.12 It's going to impose the number of the sea beast. 00:09:55.16\00:09:57.86 It's going to make an image of the sea beast. 00:09:57.89\00:10:00.13 It's going to tell everyone to worship the sea beast. 00:10:00.20\00:10:03.13 In other words, everything it does is with 00:10:03.16\00:10:05.60 reference to the sea beast. 00:10:05.63\00:10:07.04 It's almost like it doesn't have its own identity. 00:10:07.10\00:10:10.37 It arose for one purpose, and that was to return the identity, 00:10:10.41\00:10:14.94 or the ability to persecute to that first beast. 00:10:14.98\00:10:19.58 Now notice Revelation 13:10, 11, Revelation 13:10, 11. 00:10:19.61\00:10:26.25 Verse 10 speaks about the deadly wound. It says: 00:10:26.29\00:10:30.23 See that's the deadly wound. 00:10:38.33\00:10:39.90 And notice, immediately after it speaks about the deadly wound, 00:10:43.24\00:10:46.27 we find in verse 11: 00:10:46.31\00:10:48.11 So when the first beast falls it says: 00:10:48.94\00:10:52.95 So when does this second beast rise? 00:11:05.53\00:11:08.70 It rises to power when the first beast receives its deadly wound. 00:11:08.73\00:11:14.87 Because it says, He who kills with the sword will be 00:11:14.90\00:11:17.47 killed with the sword. 00:11:17.51\00:11:18.84 Then he says, Then I saw another beast rise from the earth, 00:11:18.87\00:11:22.04 which means that this beast would have to rise 00:11:22.08\00:11:24.25 around what year? 00:11:24.28\00:11:25.61 It will have to be around the year 1798 when the first beast 00:11:25.65\00:11:30.65 received its deadly wound. 00:11:30.69\00:11:32.49 A second characteristic which helps us identify this beast 00:11:32.52\00:11:37.39 from the earth is that in Revelation 13, beginning with 00:11:37.43\00:11:42.23 verse 11, there is no reference to waters. 00:11:42.26\00:11:45.43 There is no reference to winds of strife. 00:11:45.47\00:11:49.00 In fact this beast that rises from the earth doesn't even 00:11:49.04\00:11:52.87 fight with any other beasts. 00:11:52.91\00:11:54.34 In other words, it does not arise in the midst of strife. 00:11:54.38\00:12:00.42 Winds of strife represent wars. 00:12:00.45\00:12:02.18 It doesn't have to conquer any previous nation. 00:12:02.22\00:12:04.92 It actually arises in a different place. 00:12:04.95\00:12:09.16 It can't be in Asia, and it can't be in Europe. 00:12:09.19\00:12:14.00 You say, Why not? 00:12:14.00\00:12:15.33 Because if you read Daniel 7 you'll notice that the lion 00:12:15.36\00:12:18.60 and the bear, which are Asian powers, by the way, 00:12:18.63\00:12:22.07 rose from the sea. 00:12:22.10\00:12:23.67 Also the leopard and the dragon beast, which are European 00:12:23.71\00:12:28.78 powers, rose from the sea as well. 00:12:28.81\00:12:31.65 But this beast rises from the earth, which means that it must 00:12:31.68\00:12:35.78 rise in a different place. 00:12:35.82\00:12:37.55 Are you understanding what I'm saying? 00:12:37.59\00:12:38.99 Now something very important is that prophecy is actually moving 00:12:39.02\00:12:43.79 from east to west, because the first two beasts are Asian 00:12:43.83\00:12:46.90 powers: the lion and the bear. 00:12:46.96\00:12:49.80 The next two beasts are European powers, 00:12:49.83\00:12:52.67 which is Greece and Rome. 00:12:52.70\00:12:56.00 And, by the way, always moving further what? further west. 00:12:56.04\00:13:00.18 So where would you expect this beast from the earth to arise? 00:13:00.21\00:13:04.31 Probably further west than Europe. 00:13:04.35\00:13:08.05 And let me ask you, What is it that is west from Europe? 00:13:08.08\00:13:12.75 North America, the United States of America. 00:13:12.79\00:13:16.49 In fact, it's interesting that there are no waters. 00:13:16.52\00:13:19.26 It rises from the earth. 00:13:19.29\00:13:22.20 Waters represent multitudes, nations, tongues, and peoples. 00:13:22.23\00:13:25.37 Let me ask you, When the United States, when the pilgrims came 00:13:25.40\00:13:29.40 to the United States, were there lots of people 00:13:29.44\00:13:31.71 living in this country? 00:13:31.74\00:13:33.07 Was it like the old country, Europe? Absolutely not. 00:13:33.11\00:13:35.68 There were very few living here. 00:13:35.71\00:13:37.05 I'm going to give you some statistics 00:13:37.11\00:13:38.51 a little bit later on. 00:13:38.55\00:13:39.88 In fact, let me read you a couple of statements. 00:13:39.91\00:13:42.65 One of them is by Daniel J. Boorstin, who for many years 00:13:42.68\00:13:45.99 was the Librarian of Congress. 00:13:46.02\00:13:48.16 He says this about North America: 00:13:48.19\00:13:50.63 That is of the United States. 00:13:56.70\00:13:58.47 And another author said this, G. A. Townsend, 00:14:03.34\00:14:07.78 about the territory where this country arose: 00:14:07.81\00:14:11.01 So the United States arose in silence: no wins, no wars, 00:14:25.46\00:14:29.43 no fighting other nations. 00:14:29.46\00:14:30.83 It arose in the earth where there was a scarcity of people. 00:14:30.87\00:14:33.94 It arose around the year 1798, and this author says that it 00:14:34.00\00:14:38.27 arose like a plant. 00:14:38.31\00:14:40.48 Do you know that that word that's used, I saw another beast 00:14:40.54\00:14:43.41 rise from the earth, that word rise is used in the 00:14:43.45\00:14:46.15 New Testament to describe a plant that grows from the earth. 00:14:46.18\00:14:50.85 It's interesting that this historian says, 00:14:50.89\00:14:52.82 in the last quotation I read, Like a silent seed we 00:14:52.85\00:14:57.19 grew into an empire. 00:14:57.23\00:14:59.76 Now another point that will help us identify this power is that 00:14:59.79\00:15:05.17 the first beast, the sea beast, and this earth beast 00:15:05.20\00:15:09.50 are contemporaneous. 00:15:09.54\00:15:10.91 In other words, they exist at the same time. 00:15:10.94\00:15:13.14 But the first beast is older than this second beast, 00:15:13.17\00:15:16.51 because the second beast rises after the first beast 00:15:16.54\00:15:19.78 has ruled for 1,260 years. 00:15:19.81\00:15:23.15 In other words they exist at the same time. 00:15:23.18\00:15:25.52 They are powers that are simultaneous 00:15:25.55\00:15:27.82 in the flow of history. 00:15:27.86\00:15:29.19 And the interesting thing is that this second beast actually 00:15:29.22\00:15:33.33 helps the first beast to get it's power back. 00:15:33.40\00:15:36.67 You know, usually when you look at the beasts in Daniel 7, 00:15:36.73\00:15:40.30 the bear fights the lion and takes away his power, 00:15:40.34\00:15:44.51 and the leopard fights the bear and takes away his power, 00:15:44.54\00:15:47.54 and the dragon fights the leopard and 00:15:47.58\00:15:49.34 takes away his power. 00:15:49.38\00:15:50.71 In other words, every power defeats the previous power. 00:15:50.75\00:15:53.25 But this is very unusual, because in 1798, 00:15:53.28\00:15:56.35 when the first power falls, and loses the sword, the Bible tells 00:15:56.38\00:15:59.89 that this second power is not going to fight that first power, 00:15:59.92\00:16:03.46 but is actually going to do everything possible to restore 00:16:03.49\00:16:06.59 the power to the first beast. Unbelievable! 00:16:06.63\00:16:10.27 Revelation 13 also says that this power is going to be 00:16:10.30\00:16:14.40 worldwide, and it's going to be a super power. 00:16:14.44\00:16:18.51 It's going to be a super power economically, because the Bible 00:16:18.54\00:16:22.08 says that he's going to forbid to buy and sell 00:16:22.11\00:16:24.15 to whoever does not receive the mark of the beast. 00:16:24.18\00:16:26.75 It's a worldwide military power, because it says that it's going 00:16:26.82\00:16:31.92 to kill everyone who does not receive the mark of the beast. 00:16:31.95\00:16:35.89 And it is also a worldwide political power, because it says 00:16:35.92\00:16:40.30 that everybody on earth, all the world marveled 00:16:40.33\00:16:44.80 and worshipped the beast. 00:16:44.83\00:16:47.14 In other words, this second beast is the enforcer 00:16:47.20\00:16:50.37 of the first beast. 00:16:50.41\00:16:51.74 This second beast is actually the sword in the 00:16:51.77\00:16:55.04 first beast's hand. 00:16:55.08\00:16:56.41 And you say, this is incredible. 00:16:56.44\00:16:58.81 How would this beast lend itself to be used in this manner? 00:16:58.85\00:17:02.38 Well, it's unbelievable, but it's true. 00:17:02.42\00:17:04.99 One final characteristic before we move on to talk about the 00:17:05.02\00:17:10.06 two horns like a lamb, which is one especially 00:17:10.09\00:17:12.53 I want us to dwell upon. 00:17:12.56\00:17:14.00 This nation, before it becomes an oppressive nation, 00:17:14.03\00:17:20.17 and actually enforces the religion of the first beast, 00:17:20.24\00:17:24.44 actually was a blessing to those people who fled from the old 00:17:24.47\00:17:29.54 country to the United States. 00:17:29.58\00:17:32.11 I'm not going to read the text, but if you go to Revelation 12, 00:17:32.15\00:17:35.82 you're going to notice in verse 16, that immediately towards the 00:17:35.85\00:17:41.16 end of the 1260 years, when the church was being persecuted, 00:17:41.19\00:17:45.26 it says the dragon was spewing water out of his mouth 00:17:45.29\00:17:48.16 to drown the woman, which represents the church. 00:17:48.20\00:17:50.57 We're told there that the earth helped the woman, 00:17:50.63\00:17:54.37 and the earth swallowed the waters of persecution that the 00:17:54.40\00:17:58.34 dragon spewed out of his mouth. 00:17:58.37\00:18:00.21 In other words, at first this nation provides what? help, 00:18:00.24\00:18:04.31 and refuge for those who are persecuted in Europe. 00:18:04.35\00:18:07.25 But later on what's going to happen with this nation? 00:18:07.28\00:18:10.12 Instead of providing refuge for God's people, it is going 00:18:10.15\00:18:13.99 to become a what? a persecuting power. 00:18:14.02\00:18:17.36 By the way, I'd like to mention just briefly here the phenomenal 00:18:17.39\00:18:22.46 growth of the United States into a world super power. 00:18:22.50\00:18:26.33 In 1701 the United States had 260,000 inhabitants. 00:18:26.37\00:18:32.61 In 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed, 00:18:32.64\00:18:36.54 there were 2.8 million. 00:18:36.58\00:18:38.31 In the year 1800 there were 5,236,000. 00:18:38.35\00:18:44.92 That's around the time of the deadly wound. 00:18:44.99\00:18:49.19 In 1900 the United States had 76,212,000. 00:18:49.22\00:18:53.40 In 1950 the United States had 151,325,000. 00:18:53.43\00:19:04.97 And today, the latest that I saw on the internet, 00:19:05.01\00:19:08.64 the United States has over 306,000,000 inhabitants. 00:19:08.68\00:19:13.95 Since 1950 the population of the United States has doubled. 00:19:13.98\00:19:19.02 As a silent seed we grew into an empire. 00:19:19.05\00:19:26.49 Let me ask you, Is the United States a global power, 00:19:26.53\00:19:30.80 economically, militarily, and financially? Absolutely! 00:19:30.87\00:19:35.97 Can it serve, eventually, as the enforcer for this power? 00:19:36.00\00:19:40.41 There's no nation in the world that could serve as the enforcer 00:19:40.48\00:19:43.85 of this power except the United States. 00:19:43.88\00:19:45.98 Now I want to go and dwell upon the two horns like a lamb. 00:19:46.01\00:19:50.69 That's what I want to dedicate most of our time 00:19:50.72\00:19:52.65 to in this lecture. 00:19:52.69\00:19:54.16 First of all we want to ask, What does this beast represent? 00:19:54.19\00:19:59.66 What does a beast represent in Bible prophecy? 00:19:59.69\00:20:01.96 Well, you know that a beast represents a nation, right? 00:20:02.00\00:20:05.27 The lion represents Babylon, the bear Medo Persia, 00:20:05.30\00:20:08.97 the leopard Greece, the dragon Rome, the he goat represents 00:20:09.00\00:20:14.14 Greece, the ram represents Medo Persia. 00:20:14.18\00:20:16.81 In other words, beasts in prophecy represent nations. 00:20:16.85\00:20:21.52 Now allow me to read you a statement from Adam Clarke. 00:20:21.55\00:20:24.52 He was a great Bible commentator. 00:20:24.55\00:20:26.62 He's not a Seventh-day Adventist, but he explains 00:20:26.65\00:20:29.92 what a beast represents. 00:20:29.99\00:20:31.39 See it is not only Seventh-day Adventists that believe that 00:20:31.43\00:20:33.60 beasts represent nations. He says this: 00:20:33.66\00:20:35.70 That's the land beast. 00:20:46.71\00:20:48.04 Is he right? He said, Well, if the first beast 00:20:52.68\00:20:55.82 is an empire, well the second beast must also be what? 00:20:55.85\00:20:59.69 an empire, in order to be consistent. 00:20:59.72\00:21:02.99 Now what do the two horns represent? 00:21:03.02\00:21:05.69 How many beasts do we have? 00:21:05.73\00:21:07.50 I'm not talking about the sea beast and the land beast. 00:21:07.50\00:21:10.03 The land beast is how many beasts? just one, right? 00:21:10.07\00:21:13.10 But it has two horns. 00:21:13.13\00:21:16.14 So how many nations does this beast represent? it's one 00:21:16.17\00:21:19.44 nation, but it has two horns. 00:21:19.47\00:21:21.84 Now what do the two horns represent? 00:21:21.88\00:21:23.81 Once again Adam Clarke gives this explanation: 00:21:23.85\00:21:28.15 very, very good explanation. He says: 00:21:28.18\00:21:30.39 This is the dragon beast. It has ten horns. 00:21:36.42\00:21:40.50 That's the book of Revelation. 00:22:02.05\00:22:03.39 Is he right? I mean you have to be consistent. 00:22:11.33\00:22:14.83 You can't say that the ten horns of the dragon beast represent 00:22:14.83\00:22:17.93 one thing, and to say the two horns on this land beast 00:22:17.97\00:22:21.24 represent something totally different. 00:22:21.27\00:22:22.77 The two horns on the head of the land beast, or this beast 00:22:22.80\00:22:27.14 that has characteristics like a lamb, represent two kingdoms. 00:22:27.18\00:22:32.78 Now there's a Biblical parallel that is very, very close to 00:22:32.81\00:22:37.79 this symbol that we have in Revelation 13:11. 00:22:37.82\00:22:41.59 Go with me to Daniel 8, Daniel 8, and I want to read verse 3, 00:22:41.62\00:22:46.76 and then we'll jump down to verse 20. Daniel 8:3. 00:22:46.80\00:22:50.53 How many animals? one. 00:23:00.51\00:23:03.75 Okay, so you have one beast with what? two horns. 00:23:06.75\00:23:10.79 Now what do those two horns represent on this one beast? 00:23:17.03\00:23:19.93 This one ram with two horns. 00:23:20.00\00:23:21.86 What does the ram, and what do the two horns represent? 00:23:21.90\00:23:24.67 Verse 20: 00:23:24.70\00:23:26.03 Let me ask you, Was this one nation? 00:23:35.08\00:23:38.65 Yes, it was one nation. 00:23:38.68\00:23:41.42 One beast is used to represent it: a bear, and a ram. 00:23:41.45\00:23:47.89 One nation, but this one nation was composed of 00:23:47.92\00:23:51.43 how many kingdoms? 00:23:51.46\00:23:52.79 This one nation was composed of two kingdoms. 00:23:52.83\00:23:55.76 In other words, this beast of Revelation 13 represents one 00:23:55.80\00:23:59.23 nation, but that one nation has two what? has two kingdoms, 00:23:59.27\00:24:05.17 or dual kingdoms within it. 00:24:05.21\00:24:08.04 Now we're going to come back to this. 00:24:08.08\00:24:10.65 You'll understand what we're talking about. 00:24:10.68\00:24:12.05 We're setting the bases now. 00:24:12.08\00:24:13.42 But let me ask, Why are these two horns like horns of a lamb? 00:24:13.45\00:24:17.82 You know, there are many beasts in Scripture that have 00:24:17.85\00:24:21.42 horns in prophecy. 00:24:21.46\00:24:23.22 But this is the only time when the horns are specifically 00:24:23.26\00:24:28.43 identified; what kind of horns. 00:24:28.46\00:24:30.53 You know, for example, the dragon beast that 00:24:30.57\00:24:32.70 says it has ten horns. 00:24:32.73\00:24:34.10 That doesn't say what kind of ten horns they are. 00:24:34.14\00:24:36.04 It's just ten horns. 00:24:36.07\00:24:37.41 But with this beast it specifies. 00:24:37.47\00:24:40.64 It says that it has two horns like a what? like a lamb. 00:24:40.68\00:24:45.11 That must be important. 00:24:45.15\00:24:46.48 Now the question is, What does the lamb represent? 00:24:46.51\00:24:49.02 The word lamb is used in the book of Revelation 29 times. 00:24:49.05\00:24:53.52 In 28 of those references it indisputably 00:24:53.56\00:24:59.19 refers to Jesus Christ. 00:24:59.23\00:25:00.86 And so somehow this beast, the only time where you might 00:25:00.93\00:25:06.00 have an exception is here in this text, Revelation 13:11. 00:25:06.03\00:25:10.51 It must mean that somehow this one nation, on its head it will 00:25:10.54\00:25:16.85 have two horns, which represent two kingdoms, and those kingdoms 00:25:16.88\00:25:20.62 are the ones that were recognized by whom? 00:25:20.65\00:25:23.25 They were recognized by Jesus Christ, because the lamb 00:25:23.28\00:25:27.56 represents whom? The lamb represents Jesus. 00:25:27.59\00:25:31.36 So the two horns like a lamb is the positive side of this beast. 00:25:31.39\00:25:37.67 Let me ask you, Is this good that it has two 00:25:37.70\00:25:40.24 horns like a lamb? sure. 00:25:40.30\00:25:42.54 But the problem is that if it has two horns like the lamb, 00:25:42.57\00:25:45.54 in other words, two horns like kingdoms that Jesus recognized, 00:25:45.57\00:25:50.51 but at the same time it will speak like what? 00:25:50.55\00:25:53.68 It'll speak like a dragon, because it has 00:25:53.72\00:25:56.08 a split personality. 00:25:56.12\00:25:57.49 In other words, the two horns like a lamb 00:25:57.55\00:25:59.02 are the positive side. 00:25:59.05\00:26:00.49 They're related somehow to the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:26:00.52\00:26:04.66 And so we need to ask the question, What two kingdoms 00:26:04.69\00:26:08.46 did Jesus Christ the Lamb recognize? 00:26:08.50\00:26:11.37 Because the two horns are kingdoms, and they're two 00:26:11.40\00:26:15.74 horns like a lamb, so they must be two kingdoms that 00:26:15.77\00:26:18.24 Jesus what? that Jesus recognized. 00:26:18.27\00:26:20.88 Now the question is, Which two kingdoms did Jesus 00:26:20.91\00:26:23.75 recognize as viable? 00:26:23.78\00:26:25.85 Well, we've studied this in previous lectures. 00:26:25.88\00:26:29.12 You remember that Jesus says, Render therefore unto Caesar 00:26:29.15\00:26:34.29 the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the 00:26:34.32\00:26:38.66 things that are God's. 00:26:38.69\00:26:40.03 Did Jesus recognize two kingdoms? 00:26:40.10\00:26:41.70 Did the Lamb of God recognize two kingdoms? Yes, He did. 00:26:41.73\00:26:45.30 So let's summarize. 00:26:45.33\00:26:46.70 This beast that rises from the earth must be a kingdom. 00:26:46.74\00:26:50.91 This beast that rises from the earth, that has two horns, 00:26:50.94\00:26:54.78 the two horns must represent that in that nation there are 00:26:54.81\00:26:58.08 two what? There are two kingdoms. 00:26:58.11\00:27:00.55 And they have to be two kingdoms that Jesus recognized, 00:27:00.58\00:27:03.92 because they are two horns like what? 00:27:03.95\00:27:06.05 two horns like a lamb. 00:27:06.09\00:27:07.82 And we know that the two kingdoms that Jesus recognized 00:27:07.86\00:27:11.73 are the kingdom of Caesar, the civil government, 00:27:11.76\00:27:15.56 and the kingdom of God, which is on earth, the church. 00:27:15.60\00:27:21.20 Now let's talk a little bit about the history of the 00:27:21.24\00:27:25.67 United States of America. 00:27:25.71\00:27:27.08 What nation in the world arose around the year 1798? 00:27:27.11\00:27:35.98 One nation that recognized in its founding documents 00:27:36.02\00:27:41.92 the legitimate simultaneous existence of two kingdoms 00:27:41.96\00:27:47.96 separate one from another. 00:27:47.96\00:27:49.90 There's only one nation in the world that originated 00:27:49.93\00:27:54.14 as one nation that recognized two kingdoms, the same kingdoms 00:27:54.20\00:27:58.31 that Jesus recognized as being separate one from the other. 00:27:58.34\00:28:02.71 I want to read a statement from the Great Controversy, Page 440, 00:28:02.74\00:28:06.65 this magnificent book on Bible prophecy. 00:28:06.68\00:28:09.22 Here Ellen White says: 00:28:09.25\00:28:10.95 Now what I want to do is go through the history of the 00:28:38.11\00:28:40.92 United States to show you that in its founding documents 00:28:40.95\00:28:44.92 you have this idea of one nation, 00:28:44.95\00:28:47.19 composed of two kingdoms, separate one from the other. 00:28:47.26\00:28:51.46 Now the history of the United States can be divided into two 00:28:51.49\00:28:54.96 great periods: the first period is known as the Colonial period, 00:28:55.00\00:29:01.00 and the second period is known as the Constitutional period. 00:29:01.04\00:29:06.44 You know, the Constitutional fathers: men such as George 00:29:06.47\00:29:10.61 Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison, 00:29:10.68\00:29:15.88 and Benjamin Franklin knew three things. 00:29:15.92\00:29:19.22 These were the Constitutional fathers that arose 00:29:19.25\00:29:22.42 around the year 1798 to write the founding documents 00:29:22.46\00:29:25.53 of the United States. 00:29:25.56\00:29:26.93 They knew three things: first of all they knew the history of the 00:29:26.96\00:29:30.90 church in the middle ages. 00:29:30.97\00:29:32.30 In fact, do you know, that every founding document of the 00:29:32.33\00:29:36.57 United States: the Declaration of Independence, 00:29:36.60\00:29:38.61 the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights were all ratified 00:29:38.64\00:29:41.94 before the beast received its deadly wound? 00:29:41.98\00:29:44.25 As the first kingdom was coming to an end, or receiving its 00:29:44.28\00:29:50.39 deadly wound, the other kingdom, in its founding documents, 00:29:50.42\00:29:53.86 was rising to power. 00:29:53.89\00:29:55.59 That's very, very interesting. 00:29:55.62\00:29:57.43 And the founding fathers knew the history of the church 00:29:57.46\00:30:04.47 in the middle ages. 00:30:04.50\00:30:06.03 They also knew the history of the United States 00:30:06.07\00:30:09.80 in the Colonial period. 00:30:09.84\00:30:11.37 And they also knew their Bibles, as we're going to notice. 00:30:11.41\00:30:15.71 Now the Constitutional fathers knew, and they were living 00:30:15.74\00:30:20.18 at the end of the 1260 years, that when church and state are 00:30:20.22\00:30:24.25 joined together, the automatic result is persecution. 00:30:24.29\00:30:28.52 For example, they knew the history of John Hus, 00:30:28.56\00:30:31.49 that man who was convicted, and burned at the stake 00:30:31.53\00:30:35.66 for his religious convictions. 00:30:35.70\00:30:37.50 They knew, for example, that he had been kept in sub-human 00:30:37.53\00:30:41.20 conditions in prison squalor. 00:30:41.24\00:30:44.34 They knew that false witnesses were called to 00:30:44.37\00:30:47.51 testify against him. 00:30:47.54\00:30:49.31 They knew that he had violated no civil laws. 00:30:49.34\00:30:52.18 They knew that he was tried for the religious convictions 00:30:52.21\00:30:54.78 of his conscience. 00:30:54.82\00:30:56.15 They knew that he was called before a religious tribunal, 00:30:56.18\00:30:58.79 much like the Sanhedrin, at first. 00:30:58.82\00:31:01.42 He knew that that religious tribunal had pronounced a death 00:31:01.46\00:31:04.33 sentence against him. 00:31:04.36\00:31:05.69 And they knew that then they took him to the emperor to have 00:31:05.73\00:31:09.93 the emperor stamp his imprimatur upon the sentence of death. 00:31:09.96\00:31:15.00 And they knew that because of his religious convictions he was 00:31:15.04\00:31:18.11 burned at the stake. 00:31:18.14\00:31:19.47 They knew the history of the church in the middle ages, 00:31:19.51\00:31:22.64 when church and state were united or joined together. 00:31:22.68\00:31:25.91 I'd like to read you a few statements from this very 00:31:25.95\00:31:28.75 interesting book that I have. 00:31:28.78\00:31:30.15 It's called, Hus the Heretic 00:31:30.19\00:31:31.92 It's written by an individual called Poggius the Papist. 00:31:31.95\00:31:36.83 In fact, this is the man who was sent to arrest John Hus. 00:31:36.89\00:31:40.93 And, actually, as he watched the way that John Hus was 00:31:40.96\00:31:44.40 treated by the Roman Catholic Church, he actually came to 00:31:44.43\00:31:47.87 sympathize with John Hus, as against the church 00:31:47.90\00:31:50.84 that he represented. 00:31:50.87\00:31:52.21 Let me read about the conditions that John Hus was in because of 00:31:52.24\00:31:55.78 the convictions of his conscience 00:31:55.81\00:31:57.21 during the middle ages. 00:31:57.28\00:31:58.61 This is on page 19 of this book. 00:31:58.65\00:32:01.88 After a short while Hus was let out of his dungeon into a decent 00:32:01.92\00:32:06.65 chamber, but his feet almost refused to carry him. 00:32:06.69\00:32:10.13 He swayed as he walked. 00:32:10.16\00:32:12.46 Listless and unused to the day was the light of his eyes, 00:32:12.49\00:32:18.97 deathly pale his cheeks, and loose what was left of his 00:32:19.00\00:32:23.17 teeth, since 11 had fallen out due to the damp prison. 00:32:23.20\00:32:27.34 The nails on his fingers were terribly long, because he had 00:32:27.38\00:32:31.08 been unable to bite them off for many weeks. 00:32:31.11\00:32:34.08 Upon his skin was a crust of dirt, which exuded am 00:32:34.12\00:32:38.32 awful stench, and his otherwise brown hair fell in white 00:32:38.35\00:32:42.26 ringlets upon his rotting and torn garb. 00:32:42.29\00:32:45.73 This is an individual who belongs to the Roman Catholic 00:32:45.76\00:32:49.46 papacy describing this. 00:32:49.50\00:32:51.33 His shoes had rotted upon his feet, and his shirt and 00:32:51.37\00:32:54.97 loincloth had vanished. 00:32:55.00\00:32:56.64 The rounded flesh which had covered his bones had shrunken, 00:32:56.67\00:33:00.48 and shriveled, and he had become a picture 00:33:00.51\00:33:03.48 of woe without equal, unrecognizable to those who 00:33:03.55\00:33:07.12 had known him before. 00:33:07.15\00:33:08.48 Horror filled those who looked upon him, and pitying people 00:33:08.52\00:33:12.82 prepared a bath for him, brought shirts and clothing, 00:33:12.85\00:33:15.86 and refreshed him with strengthening foods, for which 00:33:15.89\00:33:19.06 he could only thank with tearful eyes. 00:33:19.09\00:33:22.56 On page 28 we find this statement: With the clock 00:33:22.60\00:33:28.20 striking 8, and the bells telling, the procession of 00:33:28.24\00:33:32.64 Bishops, Cardinals, and Fathers... 00:33:32.67\00:33:34.68 See this is, they're taking him to his trial now, 00:33:34.71\00:33:36.81 to his religious trial. 00:33:36.85\00:33:38.18 Notice who he's appearing before. 00:33:38.21\00:33:39.61 The procession of Bishops, Cardinals, and Fathers, 00:33:39.65\00:33:42.52 and Deputies moved towards the church where a chair 00:33:42.55\00:33:45.99 had been placed for Hus, about which the seats of the 00:33:46.02\00:33:49.26 gentlemen were arranged. 00:33:49.29\00:33:51.23 He was brought there for the convictions of his conscience. 00:33:51.26\00:33:54.56 He had violated absolutely no civil laws. 00:33:54.60\00:33:57.77 In fact when they gave him an opportunity to speak he said 00:33:57.80\00:34:03.20 this: God gave to Peter, His disciple... 00:34:03.24\00:34:08.34 And notice the terminology; very important. 00:34:08.38\00:34:10.35 God gave to Peter, His disciple, the key to open all hearts, 00:34:10.38\00:34:15.62 and to have enough faith with it, but not the sword. 00:34:15.65\00:34:21.82 God gave Peter the what? 00:34:21.86\00:34:23.56 He gave him the key to open hearts, but not the sword 00:34:23.63\00:34:28.83 to slay, as you slay, all those who do not accept your worldly 00:34:28.86\00:34:34.47 doctrines, and who evade them. 00:34:34.50\00:34:36.91 Did he understand what the sword is? 00:34:36.97\00:34:39.31 He most certainly understood what the sword was. 00:34:39.34\00:34:41.71 He said you haven't been given the sword. 00:34:41.74\00:34:43.41 You've been given the key to open the heavenly kingdom. 00:34:43.45\00:34:46.18 When the final vote was taken among the religious dignitaries, 00:34:46.21\00:34:50.75 31 votes were cast not guilty. 00:34:50.79\00:34:53.92 11 votes were cast for excommunication. 00:34:53.96\00:34:58.36 And 45 votes were cast for death. 00:34:58.39\00:35:02.43 And then he was taken to the Emperor, who had promised to 00:35:02.46\00:35:07.17 give him safe conduct back to his home, and he broke his word. 00:35:07.24\00:35:11.97 In fact there was a Count there, Count Slum who told the 00:35:12.01\00:35:17.55 Emperor... And I'd like to read the words that he spoke to the 00:35:17.58\00:35:21.12 Emperor as he was about to sign the death warrant for Hus. 00:35:21.15\00:35:27.06 This is what he said: Caesar... Notice he calls him Caesar. 00:35:27.09\00:35:32.26 Caesar desist from such doings. 00:35:32.29\00:35:34.36 Caesar, Caesar, do not write your name with blood. 00:35:34.36\00:35:37.53 But Poggius continues saying, But the Emperor's ears were 00:35:37.57\00:35:41.90 deaf, and were further closed by the Cardinals, Bishops, 00:35:41.94\00:35:45.94 and priests who crowded about him, kissed the hem of his 00:35:45.97\00:35:49.44 garments, and praised his name when he seized the quill 00:35:49.48\00:35:53.48 and wrote his name. 00:35:53.52\00:35:55.12 And Hus was taken, and he was burned at the stake. 00:35:55.15\00:35:58.65 You know, I've been in the Palace of the Inquisition 00:35:58.69\00:36:01.89 in Lima, Peru. It's a depressing experience. 00:36:01.92\00:36:06.49 They actually have models where they show the types of torture 00:36:06.53\00:36:10.67 that were used against people for no reason other than they 00:36:10.70\00:36:14.54 did not agree with the church. 00:36:14.57\00:36:16.30 Torture and death; some were even burned at the stake, 00:36:16.34\00:36:21.28 like John Hus was burned at the stake. 00:36:21.31\00:36:23.55 And it wasn't the church who did it, but the church used the 00:36:23.58\00:36:27.02 sword of the state in order to accomplish its purpose. 00:36:27.05\00:36:30.82 You see, the Constitutional fathers not only knew the 00:36:30.89\00:36:34.16 history of Europe, when church and state are joined together, 00:36:34.19\00:36:36.19 they also knew the history of the Colonial period 00:36:36.22\00:36:39.23 in the United States. 00:36:39.26\00:36:40.60 You know, there are many people who misunderstand, 00:36:40.63\00:36:42.96 or don't understand the Colonial period. 00:36:43.00\00:36:44.73 Do you know that during the Colonial period, which begins 00:36:44.77\00:36:47.40 around 1620 when the pilgrims arrived in the United States, 00:36:47.44\00:36:51.71 atheists, Jews, Quakers, and Baptists were deprived of their 00:36:51.74\00:36:56.91 religious rights, because they did not agree with the 00:36:56.95\00:36:59.35 established church of the Colonies, which was the Puritan, 00:36:59.38\00:37:02.55 or was the Anglican Church. 00:37:02.58\00:37:04.39 Did you know that there were Sunday laws in the Colonies, 00:37:04.42\00:37:07.76 and if you didn't go to church on Sunday, you could be whipped, 00:37:07.79\00:37:10.16 you could be fined, you could be jailed? 00:37:10.19\00:37:12.26 And in the case of three Colonies, you could be executed 00:37:12.29\00:37:15.33 for not coming to church on Sunday? 00:37:15.36\00:37:17.30 Did you know that they actually cut off the ears of Quakers 00:37:17.37\00:37:20.97 for coming back when they had been exiled from the Colonies? 00:37:21.00\00:37:24.14 If they came back once the cut off one ear. 00:37:24.21\00:37:26.31 If they came back the second time they cut 00:37:26.34\00:37:28.04 off the second ear. 00:37:28.08\00:37:29.41 And if they caught them the third time they executed them 00:37:29.44\00:37:31.68 for their religious convictions. 00:37:31.71\00:37:33.15 Did you know that: 00:37:33.18\00:37:34.52 And also the government paid the salaries of the ministers, 00:37:40.99\00:37:46.36 interestingly enough. 00:37:46.39\00:37:48.13 And so the church and the state were joined together, 00:37:48.16\00:37:51.30 and as a result you had persecution. 00:37:51.33\00:37:53.34 You know, many people know the story, for example, 00:37:53.40\00:37:55.90 of Roger Williams. 00:37:55.94\00:37:57.27 Roger Williams arrived in the Colonies in 1629. 00:37:57.31\00:38:00.21 He pastored a church there, but he started teaching separation 00:38:00.24\00:38:03.78 of church and state. 00:38:03.81\00:38:05.15 He said, There are to be two kingdoms in this country, 00:38:05.18\00:38:08.12 absolutely, but they're supposed to be separate one from another. 00:38:08.15\00:38:11.02 Because that's what Jesus taught. 00:38:11.05\00:38:12.69 Are you seeing what the two horns are? 00:38:12.72\00:38:14.12 Jesus said, Two kingdoms in the same nation, 00:38:14.19\00:38:17.39 separate, one from another. 00:38:17.46\00:38:19.46 And, of course, what he was teaching went over 00:38:19.49\00:38:21.86 like a lead balloon. 00:38:21.90\00:38:23.23 And so they banished him from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. 00:38:23.26\00:38:27.74 And he himself says that towards the end of 1635, 00:38:27.77\00:38:32.34 and the beginning of 1636, he had to flee for three weeks, 00:38:32.37\00:38:35.24 through huge show drifts to get out of the Massachusetts Bay 00:38:35.28\00:38:39.68 Colony, because he had been banished. 00:38:39.71\00:38:42.08 And if they found him in there they could throw him in prison, 00:38:42.12\00:38:44.29 or they could even execute him. 00:38:44.32\00:38:45.72 And so he ended up in Rhode Island, and he established the 00:38:45.75\00:38:49.79 Capital of Rhode Island, which is Providence. 00:38:49.82\00:38:52.73 That's interesting that he would call that city Providence. 00:38:52.76\00:38:56.50 And so the founding fathers knew the history of what happens when 00:38:56.53\00:39:01.94 church and state are united together in Europe. 00:39:01.97\00:39:04.54 They knew what happened when church and state are joined 00:39:04.57\00:39:07.78 together in the United States in the Colonial period. 00:39:07.81\00:39:11.71 They also knew their Bibles. 00:39:11.75\00:39:13.21 In several places they wrote about how they knew that because 00:39:13.25\00:39:17.02 the Jews allied themselves with the Roman state, that led to the 00:39:17.05\00:39:21.96 death of Jesus Christ. 00:39:21.99\00:39:23.32 They knew three things: they knew the history of Europe 00:39:23.36\00:39:26.03 in the middle ages, they knew the Colonial period, 00:39:26.06\00:39:28.53 and they knew their Bibles. 00:39:28.56\00:39:29.90 And they knew that when these two kingdoms become one 00:39:29.93\00:39:32.60 automatically there is persecution. 00:39:32.63\00:39:35.47 And so the Constitutional fathers, knowing this, 00:39:35.50\00:39:38.64 when the wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776, 00:39:38.67\00:39:44.05 and the Constitution was ratified in 1787, 00:39:44.08\00:39:47.62 and the Bill of Rights, which are the first ten amendments 00:39:47.65\00:39:50.39 to the Constitution, was ratified in 1791. 00:39:50.42\00:39:53.29 They said, We're going to have a different system of government 00:39:53.36\00:39:57.23 in this nation that we're establishing. 00:39:57.26\00:39:59.09 We are going to have, yes, church and state, 00:39:59.13\00:40:02.70 but church and state are going to be separated 00:40:02.73\00:40:05.23 like Jesus taught: two kingdoms in one nation. 00:40:05.27\00:40:12.41 The same two kingdoms that Jesus Christ recognized. 00:40:12.44\00:40:17.45 And remember that this is taking place immediately before 00:40:17.51\00:40:20.48 the first beast received its deadly wound. 00:40:20.52\00:40:23.65 By the way, this idea of the separation of church and state 00:40:23.69\00:40:27.52 is known as Republicanism and Protestantism. 00:40:27.56\00:40:31.26 You see, during the middle ages, what happened is in civil 00:40:31.29\00:40:35.36 affairs the king was the law. 00:40:35.40\00:40:37.90 You know, whatever the king said, in civil matters, 00:40:37.93\00:40:41.04 that's what was done. 00:40:41.07\00:40:42.40 In religious matters whatever the Pope said, that was done. 00:40:42.44\00:40:46.94 In other words, all of the power flowed from up down. 00:40:47.01\00:40:50.01 But the Constitutional fathers said, We're going to try a 00:40:50.08\00:40:54.18 revolutionary experiment. 00:40:54.25\00:40:55.65 We're going to have not the power flow from up down, 00:40:55.68\00:40:59.05 from the king down to the people, so that they have to 00:40:59.09\00:41:01.09 jump when he says jump. 00:41:01.12\00:41:02.92 We're not going to have the power flow from the Pope down, 00:41:02.96\00:41:06.73 where everybody has to subject themselves blindly. 00:41:06.80\00:41:08.90 No, we're going to have a system of government where the power 00:41:08.93\00:41:12.00 flows down up; a government of the people, by the people, 00:41:12.03\00:41:17.51 and for the people; where there will be freedom of religion, 00:41:17.57\00:41:21.98 and where there'll be also freedom in civil matters. 00:41:22.01\00:41:26.82 It's interesting to notice Ellen White was born 29 years 00:41:26.88\00:41:30.59 after the deadly wound. 00:41:30.89\00:41:32.22 It's interesting to notice how she describes this idea 00:41:32.25\00:41:36.36 of the founding fathers. 00:41:36.39\00:41:37.73 In The Great Controversy, page 441, she says: 00:41:37.76\00:41:40.76 That has to do with civil power, right? 00:41:49.04\00:41:51.67 What kingdom does that have to do with? the religious power. 00:41:55.38\00:41:59.85 She continues saying: 00:41:59.88\00:42:01.35 How many kingdoms there? civil and religious liberty. 00:42:09.06\00:42:12.99 Did you catch this? 00:42:41.62\00:42:43.53 She's talking about civil matters, and what? 00:42:43.59\00:42:46.90 religious matters. She says: 00:42:46.96\00:42:49.10 Which, by the way, means a state without a king. 00:42:58.67\00:43:01.41 Which means a church without a Pope. 00:43:03.78\00:43:06.05 And now notice what she says: 00:43:09.68\00:43:11.62 What is the secret of the power and prosperity 00:43:16.49\00:43:19.63 of the United States? all the money we have? 00:43:19.66\00:43:21.50 all of the vast territory we have? 00:43:21.53\00:43:24.50 The powerful military that we have? 00:43:24.53\00:43:27.64 No, the secret of the power of this nation is found in the 00:43:27.67\00:43:31.74 two principles upon which it was established. 00:43:31.77\00:43:35.24 And she goes on to say that when these two principles are 00:43:35.28\00:43:39.61 repudiated... And we'll talk about this when we deal with 00:43:39.65\00:43:41.98 the image to the beast. 00:43:42.02\00:43:43.35 When these two principles are repudiated, that will lead to 00:43:43.39\00:43:46.65 national apostasy, and national apostasy will 00:43:46.72\00:43:49.99 lead to national ruin. 00:43:50.03\00:43:52.03 She also says in The Great Controversy, page 442, 00:43:52.06\00:43:57.77 I want to read you three statements from three 00:44:12.65\00:44:15.45 of the founding fathers. 00:44:15.48\00:44:16.82 First Benjamin Franklin. 00:44:16.89\00:44:18.55 You know, he had an interesting way of putting things. 00:44:18.59\00:44:21.12 This is what he said: When religion is good, I can see that 00:44:21.16\00:44:26.13 it will support itself. 00:44:26.16\00:44:27.50 And when it does not support itself, and God does not take 00:44:27.50\00:44:32.83 care to support it, so that its professors are obliged to 00:44:32.87\00:44:37.07 call for the help of the civil powers, tis a sign I apprehend, 00:44:37.11\00:44:41.68 of it being a bad one. 00:44:41.71\00:44:43.71 Was he right? Of course he was right. 00:44:43.75\00:44:47.52 He's talking about separation of church and state. 00:44:47.58\00:44:50.15 Notice these words that are etched on 00:44:50.19\00:44:52.15 the Jefferson Monument. 00:44:52.19\00:44:54.26 You can go to Washington, D. C., and go to the 00:44:54.29\00:44:56.52 Jefferson Monument. 00:44:56.56\00:44:57.89 These are the words that are etched in stone. 00:44:57.93\00:44:59.73 This is what he said: 00:44:59.76\00:45:01.26 Did Thomas Jefferson believe in the separation 00:45:39.70\00:45:42.34 of church and state? 00:45:42.37\00:45:43.71 Did he believe in two kingdoms? 00:45:43.77\00:45:45.11 Yes, separate from one another. 00:45:45.14\00:45:47.18 Notice the words of George Washington. 00:45:47.24\00:45:49.51 These are words from the Baptist Delegation, August 8, 1789. 00:45:49.54\00:45:55.22 Here Washington says: 00:45:55.25\00:45:57.19 Three of the founding fathers; Thomas Jefferson was actually 00:46:59.88\00:47:06.89 one of the architects of the Constitution 00:47:06.92\00:47:10.26 of the United States. 00:47:10.29\00:47:11.63 Let me ask you once again, Did these men believe in two 00:47:11.66\00:47:16.06 kingdoms within the same nation? Yes. 00:47:16.10\00:47:19.70 And sometimes I ask people when I lecture on this, 00:47:19.73\00:47:21.94 I say, Let me ask you, How many kingdoms are you citizens of? 00:47:21.97\00:47:27.78 How many countries are we in now? 00:47:27.81\00:47:31.71 We're in one country, right? 00:47:31.75\00:47:33.92 But how many kingdoms are we citizens of in one nation? 00:47:33.95\00:47:39.32 We are citizens of two kingdoms. 00:47:39.35\00:47:41.62 We have two passports. 00:47:41.66\00:47:42.99 One passport is a U. S. passport. 00:47:43.02\00:47:45.03 That's the civil passport. 00:47:45.06\00:47:48.20 And then we have the blood of the lamb, 00:47:48.23\00:47:49.73 which is the other passport. 00:47:49.76\00:47:51.10 You see we're citizens of one nation, 00:47:51.13\00:47:54.44 because we were born here, or we were naturalized here. 00:47:54.47\00:47:58.01 We're citizens of the other nation, 00:47:58.04\00:48:00.04 because of the new birth; we were born again. 00:48:00.11\00:48:03.98 And so we live in one nation, but within that one nation 00:48:04.01\00:48:08.18 there are two kingdoms that are to be ever what? 00:48:08.22\00:48:10.92 separate one from another. 00:48:10.95\00:48:12.95 You know, there are many Christian activists today 00:48:12.99\00:48:16.02 in the United States who say that the separation of church 00:48:16.06\00:48:20.33 and state was established so that the state could not 00:48:20.36\00:48:22.86 control the church. 00:48:22.90\00:48:24.27 But the history of the middle ages, and the history of the 00:48:24.30\00:48:26.87 colonial period shows that the reason why the founding fathers 00:48:26.94\00:48:30.11 separated church and state was because there was a danger 00:48:30.14\00:48:32.91 that the church should use the state 00:48:32.94\00:48:34.71 to accomplish her purposes. 00:48:34.74\00:48:36.78 Frequently Christian activists also will say, 00:48:36.85\00:48:39.81 Well, the expression separation of church and state is not found 00:48:39.85\00:48:43.99 anywhere in the Constitution. 00:48:44.02\00:48:45.82 And that's true. If you look in the Constitution for an 00:48:45.85\00:48:49.49 expression that says separation of church and state, 00:48:49.52\00:48:52.03 you're not going to find it. 00:48:52.06\00:48:53.40 But if you read the First Amendment to the Constitution 00:48:53.43\00:48:57.43 you're going to find that clearly in the First Amendment 00:48:57.47\00:49:01.24 is the idea of the separation of church and state; 00:49:01.27\00:49:04.67 of religion from politics. 00:49:04.71\00:49:06.31 Notice what the First Amendment says: 00:49:06.34\00:49:08.41 Now what part of no law don't you understand? 00:49:11.41\00:49:13.58 This is the first clause of the First Amendment. 00:49:20.59\00:49:23.96 In other words, it doesn't say that Congress can't make a law 00:49:27.56\00:49:30.57 establishing a church, or Congress can't make a law 00:49:30.60\00:49:35.60 establishing a religion. No. 00:49:35.64\00:49:38.21 It says Congress shall make no law respecting an 00:49:38.24\00:49:40.71 establishment of religion. 00:49:40.78\00:49:42.51 In other words, what the First Amendment forbids is not 00:49:42.54\00:49:46.35 favoring one church above another church, or one religion 00:49:46.38\00:49:50.19 above another religion. 00:49:50.22\00:49:51.55 The First Amendment forbids the Congress from enacting laws 00:49:51.59\00:49:55.69 that have anything to do with religion, period. 00:49:55.72\00:49:59.46 And so the First Amendment, the first clause of the 00:49:59.49\00:50:01.56 First Amendment says: 00:50:01.60\00:50:02.93 And then you have the second clause: 00:50:06.00\00:50:07.74 That's known as the establishment clause, 00:50:10.87\00:50:15.01 and the free exercise clause. 00:50:15.04\00:50:16.71 In other words, the government can't tell you to worship 00:50:16.75\00:50:19.21 in a certain way, and the government can't forbid you 00:50:19.25\00:50:22.02 to worship in the way that your conscience tells you to worship. 00:50:22.05\00:50:25.92 Let me ask you, Does that very clearly, and obviously, 00:50:25.95\00:50:30.43 establish a separation between church and state? 00:50:30.49\00:50:32.76 It most certainly does, because the First Amendment says that 00:50:32.79\00:50:36.43 Congress can't make any law having to do with religion. 00:50:36.46\00:50:39.10 It cannot tell you to practice religion in a certain way, 00:50:39.13\00:50:43.54 and it can't forbid you from practicing your 00:50:43.57\00:50:45.57 religion in a certain way. 00:50:45.61\00:50:47.11 In other words, there's a separation between 00:50:47.14\00:50:49.24 the civil power and the religious power. 00:50:49.28\00:50:52.38 James Madison, who is known as the father of the Constitution, 00:50:52.41\00:50:56.55 had this to say about the Constitution, 00:50:56.62\00:51:01.39 and the relationship between religion and government. 00:51:01.42\00:51:04.06 He said this: 00:51:04.13\00:51:05.46 That is with religion. 00:51:15.00\00:51:16.34 Is that clear? In 1797 the United States signed a treaty, 00:51:27.92\00:51:34.22 it's known as the Treaty of Tripoli. 00:51:34.26\00:51:35.72 It's was actually approved by President John Adams. 00:51:35.76\00:51:38.86 And this is what the Treaty of Tripoli said. 00:51:38.89\00:51:41.10 This is only a portion of the treaty. 00:51:41.13\00:51:42.60 Now we need to understand that it was founded upon this 00:51:50.14\00:51:53.54 idea of two principles: separation of church and state, 00:51:53.61\00:51:56.24 separation of civil matters from religious matters. 00:51:56.28\00:51:59.55 But that doesn't mean that the United States was founded 00:51:59.58\00:52:02.68 as a Christian nation. 00:52:02.72\00:52:04.09 It was founded as a nation of Christians. 00:52:04.12\00:52:06.99 It's different to say that it was a Christian nation 00:52:07.06\00:52:10.03 than to say that it is a nation of Christians, where most of 00:52:10.06\00:52:13.26 the people, at that time at least, were Christians. 00:52:13.29\00:52:16.16 Now what about Thomas Jefferson? 00:52:16.20\00:52:17.93 In 1802 he wrote a letter to the Danbury Baptist Association, 00:52:17.97\00:52:23.37 and he used what is known as the metaphor of the wall. 00:52:23.41\00:52:27.48 And, actually, he probably got this metaphor "on the wall" 00:52:27.54\00:52:31.58 from Roger Williams long before him. 00:52:31.61\00:52:34.22 But he didn't give him credit if he did. 00:52:34.28\00:52:36.75 Notice what he had to say to the Danbury Baptists. 00:52:36.79\00:52:39.82 Do you know what, I think Thomas Jefferson knew much better what 00:53:19.89\00:53:23.23 the First Amendment to the Constitution meant than the 00:53:23.26\00:53:26.23 Christian Revisionists who want to rewrite it, 00:53:26.27\00:53:29.60 and reinterpret it today, because he was nearer 00:53:29.64\00:53:33.48 to the event, and he actually participated in it. 00:53:33.54\00:53:35.78 By the way, do you know that the third clause of the 00:53:35.81\00:53:39.05 First Amendment to the Constitution 00:53:39.08\00:53:40.92 has to do with civil rights? 00:53:40.95\00:53:42.42 Isn't it interesting that in the First Amendment you have these 00:53:42.45\00:53:45.19 two things: the first two clauses deal with religious 00:53:45.25\00:53:48.69 freedom, and the last part of the First Amendment 00:53:48.72\00:53:52.13 deals with civil liberty? 00:53:52.16\00:53:53.80 Thus encased, folks, within the First Amendment to the 00:53:53.86\00:53:58.23 Constitution, one of the founding documents 00:53:58.27\00:54:00.57 of the United States, you have this idea of two kingdoms: 00:54:00.64\00:54:04.41 in the Declaration of Independence, 00:54:04.44\00:54:06.91 in the Constitution, and in the Bill of Rights. 00:54:06.98\00:54:09.54 You have this idea of separation of church and state. 00:54:09.58\00:54:13.82 You know the third clause, having to do with civil liberty, 00:54:13.85\00:54:19.69 guarantees freedom of speech, freedom of the press, 00:54:19.72\00:54:23.43 freedom of assembly, and freedom to petition the government 00:54:23.46\00:54:28.33 for a redress of grievances. 00:54:28.40\00:54:30.17 Let me ask you, Are those civil rights? Yes. 00:54:30.23\00:54:32.63 And so in the First Amendment you have religious rights, 00:54:32.67\00:54:35.70 and you have civil rights, contained within 00:54:35.74\00:54:39.47 the same Amendment. 00:54:39.51\00:54:42.11 So what is it that is going to happen, 00:54:42.18\00:54:45.55 according to Bible prophecy? 00:54:45.58\00:54:47.08 According to Bible prophecy, this beast that arose from the 00:54:47.12\00:54:52.72 earth, that at first sustained the idea that this is one nation 00:54:52.75\00:55:00.46 having two kingdoms, separate from one another, 00:55:00.53\00:55:04.60 church and state, where you could be actually a citizen of 00:55:04.63\00:55:08.67 both within the same country; where Congress could make no law 00:55:08.70\00:55:12.41 respecting an establishment of religion, nor forbidding the 00:55:12.44\00:55:16.11 free exercise of religion. 00:55:16.14\00:55:17.91 Prophecy tells us that this nation is going to repudiate 00:55:17.95\00:55:22.32 those principles, because we're told in Revelation 13 that this 00:55:22.35\00:55:26.45 beast had two horns like a lamb, which we've clearly identified 00:55:26.49\00:55:30.56 as these two kingdoms, which represent the church and the 00:55:30.63\00:55:34.30 state, and they derive ideas of freedom of religion, 00:55:34.30\00:55:37.77 and also civil freedom. 00:55:37.80\00:55:40.90 What's going to happen is this country is going to repudiate 00:55:40.94\00:55:44.74 these two principles, and it is going to speak like a dragon. 00:55:44.77\00:55:50.45 In other words, it is going to become a persecuting power, 00:55:50.51\00:55:55.32 like the dragon tried to kill the child 00:55:55.35\00:55:58.19 when the child was born. 00:55:58.22\00:55:59.55 That was Rome, by the way. 00:55:59.59\00:56:01.59 Like the dragon tried to destroy the woman in the wilderness 00:56:01.62\00:56:05.59 during the 1260 years. 00:56:05.63\00:56:07.60 That was another Rome, by the way. 00:56:07.66\00:56:10.80 This same Rome, at the end of time, will recover the sword. 00:56:10.87\00:56:15.70 And the most unlikely of all nations will be the nation that 00:56:15.74\00:56:20.58 will return the sword to this sea beast, so that it can once 00:56:20.61\00:56:25.41 again persecute the saints of the Most High. 00:56:25.45\00:56:28.55 You know, I pray to God that this wouldn't happen. 00:56:28.58\00:56:33.36 That as people hear what I'm presenting, and watch it on 00:56:33.39\00:56:37.73 television, they'd say, Wow, This is an amazing history 00:56:37.76\00:56:42.10 of the United States of America. 00:56:42.13\00:56:43.97 We can't allow this to happen! 00:56:44.03\00:56:45.77 We cannot allow this church to use the United States of America 00:56:45.80\00:56:51.41 to accomplish such purposes. 00:56:51.44\00:56:53.17 We cannot have another Middle Ages. 00:56:53.21\00:56:56.38 We must stand firm with our principles upon which 00:56:56.41\00:57:01.28 our nation was established. 00:57:01.32\00:57:02.65 I pray to God that that would happen. 00:57:02.68\00:57:04.65 Bible prophecy tells us that as God has announced, 00:57:04.69\00:57:09.16 things are going to happen. 00:57:09.19\00:57:10.56 They happen because God knows the end from the beginning. 00:57:10.59\00:57:14.30 He does not determine them that way, but He knows that they're 00:57:14.36\00:57:17.80 going to occur, because He knows the end from the beginning. 00:57:17.83\00:57:21.27 I pray that in this final conflict we will choose to be 00:57:21.30\00:57:25.01 on the right side. 00:57:25.04\00:57:26.37
