Well a Holz Hausen is a
wood pile that has been stacked

in a circular shape like the one
behind me. It's also called a

bee hive stack or a round stack
because of the shape that it has

This kind of wood pile is
stacked very carefully and you

don't need a shed or a rack
or anything to hold the wood in

place. You simply start by
sticking a branch in the ground

and then you lay wood logs all
around it. You keep piling and

stacking up from there. Once you
have a good little round wall

you start filling in the center
with more logs. You can store a

lot of firewood in a small space
this way. The whole thing is

really strong and secure. It can
stand against tough winds and

rain. Do you know what happens
to a piece of wood if it's left

on the ground by itself? When it

by worms. It also starts rotting

sun and fresh air will dry

used as firewood. Now that's

to be alone like that rotting
log left to deal with the

struggles of life by ourselves.
We would rot away in our sins.

Instead He made us to be in a
relationship like families and

church families. If we unite in
a circle of truth in Jesus we'll

find that God's sunshine, which
is His love, will evaporate all

our sins and back characters.
His fresh air, which is the Holy

Spirit, will prepare us to light
a spiritual fire as we share

God's love and do God's will.

is piled together in a circle

and again and again. Today we're

about Jesus and how he cleaned

cleaned before. Let's listen and

Well today's lesson, as you
may know, is called Cleaning the
00:10:06.60\00:10:12.67
Temple Again. That's right.
You see. It's Passover time and
00:10:12.71\00:10:17.55
people from all over the
world have come to Jerusalem to
00:10:17.58\00:10:20.18
celebrate this special Jewish
event. And I think it's a really
00:10:20.22\00:10:24.22
cool event to celebrate
in general because it's a
00:10:24.25\00:10:27.26
historical event in the lives
of all Christians as well. Right
00:10:27.29\00:10:29.76
Jesus knew that he was going to
die soon and usually, he stayed
00:10:29.79\00:10:34.33
away from Jerusalem throughout
His ministry, if you've noticed.
00:10:34.36\00:10:37.23
But during the last week of His
life He spent an extra amount of
00:10:37.27\00:10:40.70
time there. He knew that
people would need to be paying
00:10:40.74\00:10:44.31
attention to the events
that were coming up for their
00:10:44.34\00:10:46.81
salvation. Right? So Jesus went
to the temple and talked just
00:10:46.84\00:10:52.08
like He did when He was
really young. Right? Three years
00:10:52.11\00:10:55.72
earlier, you see, He'd come to
this very same temple and He had
00:10:55.75\00:10:58.99
found it not in a good
place. Do you remember what was
00:10:59.02\00:11:03.26
happening? That's right. There
were money changers there and
00:11:03.29\00:11:05.56
they were trying to sell people
animals and the animals were so
00:11:05.59\00:11:08.36
loud. They were trying to sell
to people for prices that were
00:11:08.40\00:11:11.37
ridiculously high and they were
making a very big profit. And do
00:11:11.40\00:11:16.57
you remember what happened? He
drove them out and He said this
00:11:16.60\00:11:19.41
house should be a house of
prayer. Right? And you have made
00:11:19.44\00:11:22.24
it a crazy place. Now when he
came back this time, three years
00:11:22.28\00:11:27.18
later, it was even worse than
before. Can you hear it now?
00:11:27.22\00:11:32.12
Can you imagine if you came to
your church and it sounded more
00:11:32.15\00:11:35.09
like a barn than a
church? That's what it was like.

Wasn't it? And Jesus just looked
around the temple and his gaze

just stopped everyone. Maybe
your mom or dad or teacher has a
00:11:42.60\00:11:47.47
gaze that works kind of like
that but I don't think anyone
00:11:47.50\00:11:50.11
has the Jesus gaze. We're going
to pick up the story in Mark
00:11:50.14\00:11:54.58
chapter 11 verse
15, 11 verse 15 says:...

So they came to Jerusalem and
when Jesus went into the temple
00:11:58.35\00:12:01.55
He began to drive out those who
bought and sold in the temple
00:12:01.58\00:12:05.85
and overturned the tables of the
money changers and the seats of
00:12:05.89\00:12:09.09
those who sold doves. He would
not allow anyone to carry wares
00:12:09.12\00:12:12.76
through the temple. [That's
right] And then He taught saying
00:12:12.79\00:12:18.63
to them, Is it not written my
house shall be called a house of
00:12:18.67\00:12:22.10
prayer for all nations. But you
have made it a den of thieves.

Because these people
were selling the animals for
00:12:27.08\00:12:29.98
ridiculously high prices.
00:12:30.01\00:12:32.21
And the scribes and chief priest
heard of it and they sought how
00:12:32.25\00:12:34.12
they might destroy Him.
00:12:34.15\00:12:35.48
This made them very upset that
He was disrupting their temple
00:12:35.52\00:12:39.15
services.
00:12:39.19\00:12:40.52
For they feared Him because all
the people were astonished at
00:12:40.56\00:12:43.46
His teaching. And when evening
had come He went out of the
00:12:43.49\00:12:47.26
city. So once again though,
we know from the Bible and from
00:12:47.30\00:12:53.47
other books of the Bible, it
says that when He drove them out
00:12:53.50\00:12:59.01
once again the priests and
rulers left. The money changers
00:12:59.04\00:13:01.98
left, everybody ran away. You
would think that they wouldn't
00:13:02.01\00:13:04.01
be scared of Him this time. He'd
already done this once before.
00:13:04.05\00:13:06.38
Right? But they still were
scared and people brought in
00:13:06.41\00:13:09.88
sick people once again, like the
first time. And no longer could
00:13:09.92\00:13:15.19
you hear arguing, no longer
could you hear noisy animals.

All you heard now is happy
people headed to see Jesus.

And we know this because it
talks about it in the book of
00:13:22.40\00:13:25.40
Matthew. So let's back up to
the book of Matthew chapter 21.

I love that there's four gospels
that tell the story of Jesus's
00:13:29.44\00:13:32.91
life on earth because they
all add a super interesting
00:13:32.94\00:13:35.88
perspective and details
that maybe somebody else forgot.

Matthew 21 verse 14 says:...
00:13:40.12\00:13:44.15
And then the blind and the lame
came to Him in the temple and He
00:13:44.19\00:13:46.86
healed them.
00:13:46.89\00:13:48.22
But when the chief priest and
scribes saw the wonderful things
00:13:48.26\00:13:51.03
that He did and the children
crying out in the temple and
00:13:51.06\00:13:53.46
saying, Hosanna to the Son
of David, they were indignant.
00:13:53.50\00:13:57.60
Do you know what the word
indignant means? Maybe you've
00:13:57.63\00:14:00.77
heard the word furious, maybe
you've heard the words roaring
00:14:00.80\00:14:04.97
mad. Those would all be
synonyms for the word indignant.

They were not just a little bit
upset. They were super angry.

And said to Him, Do you hear
these things they are saying?

And Jesus said to them. Yes.
Have you not read, Out of the

mouths of babes and nursing
infants you have perfected

praise.

Now you see this was actually
from the book of Isaiah. I'm

sorry, Psalms, it was from
the book of Psalms so He was
00:14:29.86\00:14:32.00
actually quoting a prophecy in
relation to Him. Oh, they got so
00:14:32.03\00:14:39.07
upset that that He would say
that to them. Oh! So frustrated
00:14:39.11\00:14:44.48
they were. But you couldn't
scare Jesus and they could see
00:14:44.51\00:14:48.65
that. They thought maybe they
could intimidate Him. Right? And
00:14:48.68\00:14:52.29
it wasn't working. So they
decided to try to trick Him.
00:14:52.32\00:14:55.16
And if you recall they've tried
this before but apparently they
00:14:55.19\00:14:58.76
decided to try it again. So that
night they all were trying to
00:14:58.79\00:15:02.13
think of a trick question, that
no matter how He answered it
00:15:02.16\00:15:05.67
He'd get it wrong and they could
show that He was wrong and they
00:15:05.70\00:15:08.80
were right. Right? So let's see
how that goes for them. We're

to Tuesday now in that week
that is going to take this whole

quarter to take
about. The day of Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning Jesus headed
back to the temple to spend time

there. And they were ready with
their trick question for him.

Are you ready to hear
what it is? Here it is:...

Matthew 21 verse 23:...[They
were feeling pretty proud of

themselves here.] Now when
He came to the temple the chief

priest and the elders of the
people confronted Him as He was

teaching and said [Ah excuse me
Jesus, ah] by what authority are

you doing these things and
who gave you this authority?

Hmm. If He said God then
they would say you know, No,

like you're wrong.
00:15:54.82\00:15:56.15
You cannot claim to be from God.
And then of course He wasn't

going to say Satan
which wouldn't make any sense

whatsoever, so any way that He
answered, My own authority, Oh

my like that wouldn't give
Him any credibility. Right? But

Jesus was very intelligent
and He knew their tricks. And so

instead of answering the
question either way, truthfully

He would have said, From God
and they would have been upset.
00:16:18.91\00:16:21.08
He decided to switch it up on
them. And so in verse 24 it says

Jesus answered and said to them:
I also will tell you one thing,

which if you tell me I likewise
will tell you of what authority
00:16:31.85\00:16:36.12
I do these things.
00:16:36.16\00:16:37.49
So he said, Well, how this?
I'll ask you a question. If you

answer my question, I'll answer
your question. Seems fair.

Verse 25: The baptism of John,
Jesus said, Where was it from?

Was it from heaven or from
men? And they reasoned among

themselves [Ooh well] If we say
it's from heaven, He will say to
00:16:53.68\00:16:57.48
us then why did you not believe
in him? But if we say it's from
00:16:57.51\00:17:01.85
men [mm, that won't work] for we
fear what the multitude will say
00:17:01.88\00:17:05.29
for all count John as a prophet.

Like everybody thought he was
really cool and they thought he
00:17:07.12\00:17:09.76
was a prophet. We can't... Ahh!
A trick question with a trick

question. Right?

So they answered Jesus and said,
[Well, well] We do not know. And

said to them, [Well]
Neither will I tell you by what
00:17:19.80\00:17:22.90
authority I do these things.

That was the deal. A deal is
a deal. You decide not to answer

my question, can't answer yours
either. Right? He knew that

answering that question
truthfully was not going

to bring people closer to God or
to Him. It was just going to add
00:17:34.75\00:17:38.52
fuel to the fire of those
religious leaders and He didn't
00:17:38.55\00:17:41.96
take the bait. He walked away.
They were trying to get Him all
00:17:41.99\00:17:46.49
flustered and because of God's
power that He had tanked up on
00:17:46.53\00:17:49.40
that last night of prayer
He knew how to respond to them.
00:17:49.43\00:17:52.47
Jesus wasn't trying to embarrass
these leaders and He wanted to
00:17:52.50\00:17:58.31
save them. But it was time
for a parable. Time for a lesson
00:17:58.34\00:18:02.84
because people there needed
to understand what was really
00:18:02.88\00:18:04.91
happening there. And it's called
the Parable of the Two Sons.

verse 28 of Matthew 21:...

But what do you think? A man
has two sons and he came to the

first one and said, Son go work
today in my vineyard. And he

answered and said, I will not.

The son said to the
father, I will not. Okay.

But afterwards he regretted
it [felt bad] and he went

and worked

in the vineyard. Then he
came to the second son and said

likewise and he answered and
said, I go, sir. [Mm-hmm] But

he didn't actually go [Hmmm].
Which of the two did the will

of his father? Jesus asked. And
they said, [Well] the first one

did. Jesus said to
them, Assuredly I say to you,

[get ready for this] Assuredly I
say to you, that tax collectors

and harlots enter the kingdom of
God before you. For John came to

you in the way of righteousness
and you did not believe him.

But tax collectors and harlots
believed him and when you saw it

relent and believe in him.

He's saying, You guys are
the second son. You say that you

follow God but you don't
really follow Him. And sinners,

Gentiles, people who you believe
are low and not worthy, they

actually are following God's
will. They're actually following

what He wants them to do even
though they've messed up in the

past. Wow! Jesus didn't mince
words did He there? The people

began to question the leaders
didn't they. They couldn't like

understand. All these years
they'd respected them and they'd
00:19:40.68\00:19:43.14
trusted what they'd
said but they were seeing the
00:19:43.18\00:19:47.05
inconsistencies that Jesus
was bringing out and they were
00:19:47.08\00:19:50.45
starting to doubt. That same
day Jesus was observing people
00:19:50.49\00:19:53.86
there in the temple giving love
gifts to God. And He'd watch the
00:19:53.89\00:19:57.13
rich and they'd come in there
with their big bag of money and
00:19:57.16\00:19:59.79
make a big show of making sure
the coins really clanked a lot
00:19:59.83\00:20:02.76
so everybody would pay attention
Right You tell how prideful they
00:20:02.80\00:20:08.37
were, how proud they were of
how much they were giving. Then
00:20:08.40\00:20:10.87
Jesus continued to watch and
He saw a stooped widow, an older

lady there who quietly watched
to make sure no one else was
00:20:16.41\00:20:21.18
watching and she quietly walked
over to the you know the money
00:20:21.22\00:20:25.82
chest there where they were
giving their gifts and she put
00:20:25.85\00:20:28.22
in two small coins. Then she
started to turn away and Jesus

noticed this right away and
it made him so, so happy. Really

of two coins made Jesus so, so

happy. That's right. Let's
hop over to Mark and in Mark 12

we'll hear what Jesus
said at that time. Verse 42:...

Then one poor widow came and
threw in two mites which make a

quadrans. [Very small amount
of money] So he called his

disciples to himself and said
to them, Assuredly I say to you

that this poor widow has put
in more than all those who have

given money to the treasury
for they all put in out of their

abundance, [they had lots of
money at home, they had lots of

money in their bank account] but
she put in out of her poverty.

She put in all that she
had, her whole livelihood.

Can you imagine the widow
hearing what Jesus said to the

disciples? How glad that must
have made her heart to know that

God noticed that gift. Now Jesus
talked a lot about rich people
00:21:30.05\00:21:33.52
and poor people. For rich people
they do have a lot of money at
00:21:33.56\00:21:36.62
home and sometimes that makes
them trust themselves more than
00:21:36.66\00:21:39.13
they trust God. Whereas poor
people often have to worry about
00:21:39.16\00:21:42.36
money and are forced to trust
God to provide for them. God
00:21:42.40\00:21:46.97
knows how we use our money.
He knows how much money we have
00:21:47.00\00:21:49.44
left over after we give to Him.
Some people may ask, well Miss
00:21:49.47\00:21:52.61
Michelle is it okay for us
to keep some money for ourselves
00:21:52.64\00:21:54.78
and of course. But I want you
to think about a few principles

when you're giving. Okay?
We should all remember that

everything that we have belongs
to God. Whether you're rich or

poor everything that you have
belongs to God. And we should be

humble when we give and love God
the most of all. And always be
