The first thing you're going to

and enjoy all the summer camp

a great time. In preparation

us to understand what being

activities to help us understand

that. One of the activities was
we had to try to feed somebody

when we were blind. And that
was really hard. Trying to feed

yourself is hard enough.
Trying to feed someone else was

difficult as well. We had to
also help lead each other when

we were blind. Did you know that
one of the ways that they taught

us to do that was interesting
because I had thought maybe

you'd link arms with them or
maybe you'd just hold their back

or their shoulder. But actually
how they do that is you'd grab

right here on their elbow. The
blind person, the person who's

was a great way to help them

All right. The first story, as
promised, is about a blind man.

whose name was Bartimaeus and
here is his story. If you can

imagine with me two blind
beggars sitting on the road just

outside Jericho. Beggars because
they were begging for people to

give them money or food. They
didn't have a way to make money

or have those things because of
their blindness. Mark tells this

story and he focuses on one
of them. His name was, What was

it? Bartimaeus. That's right.
You see he had heard of Jesus

before and he believed that if
he had the chance to see Jesus

right, he would be able to see.
If he had a chance to come into

contact with Jesus he would be
able to see. Jesus was leaving

Jericho with his disciples and
a big multitude of people. Often

times Jesus had a lot of
people following him, didn't he?

Mark 10 verse 47 and 48 says:

hear my son's cry I often times

brother or sister's voice you

know it's them. I think that
Jesus had the same talent and

that was he could hear people
who needed him. And he stopped.

Even though there was a huge
multitude of people he had heard

Bartimaeus' cry and what did
Jesus do? In verse 49 he said:

So Jesus stood still and
commanded him to be called. Then

they called the blind man saying
to him, Be of good cheer, Rise,

he's calling for you. [He

throwing aside his garment
he rose and came to Jesus. [But

what would Jesus do?] So Jesus

is it that you want me to do for

Now we're on to story number two

You see, this is my recipe to

Jesus taught a lesson with bread

one's called Finding A Treasure.

It's also in Matthew chapter
13 and this is about a man.

This man actually had rented
a field and he was renting it.

People still do this today,
where they'll rent the land and

then they'll work the land
and plant a crop and harvest the

crop. Then they pay the land
owner some money. Actually not

terribly a lot of money. I mean
if you were doing it with a lot

of land it would probably be
a lot of money but they usually

make a pretty reasonable deal
for them to use that land. But

the land doesn't belong to them,
only the crops that they grow on

it do. So this man was out in
the field working on his crops

and the Bible says
in Matthew 13 verse 44:

Again the kingdom is like
a treasure hidden in a field

which a man found and hid.

Now why would he hide the
treasure. You see he's out

working in this rented field and
he finds a treasure. Wow. Maybe

the person who had owned the
field a long time ago had hidden

that treasure. You see, back
then they didn't necessarily

have banks like we do today
where you can put your treasure,

your money, away safely. They
often times would bury their

treasure somewhere and remember
where it was. But sometimes they

may pass away before they could
tell their family members or

treasure was. So this treasure

was unclaimed. It was just in
this field. My bet is even the

owner of the field didn't

he goes and sells all he has and

why he rehid the treasure. Right
Then he told people kind of a

partial truth. He said, I must
buy the field, which is true,

he didn't tell them why. Right?
He left out the part about the

part about the treasure. And
you can imagine what his family

thought of him when he came home
and said, There's this field,

really nice field. I'm thinking
we should sell everything. I can

just imagine my husband's face
if I came home and said this.

We should just sell everything
we have and buy this field.

And my husband's like does
it have a home on it? No, no, no

home. Does it have a business
on it? No, no business. Does it,

like did you find gold? And
at that point the man would like

mm mmm mm because he kind of had
found a treasure. Right? But his

family did think he was
downright crazy. But he knew

that it would be worth it so
he did. The Bible verse says he

sold everything that he had in
order to buy this field. Can you

imagine the day that he
purchased it and he said to his

wife and kids, Come on, let's go
check out our new field. We can

just imagine the kids saying,
Oh Dad are you serious. I cannot

even believe you made us sell
everything. What are we going

do now. We have like, we have a
field. Yay, let's roll around in

the dirt. Right? And his
wife I can imagine maybe she was

even rolling her eyes a little
bit at him, who knows and she

couldn't believe that it had
come to this. But as they got

out to the field, he pulled
out his shovel. You can see them

saying, Dad what are you doing?
We don't want to work. This is

about like the worst day of our
lives, we don't want to work.

He said, No wait, wait. And
he started to dig, dig, dig and

clunk his shovel hit something.
Well, this is curious. Now they

were paying attention. Right?
He opened up that chest and he

showed them the treasure and it
all made sense. They weren't so

mad at their dad anymore were
they? And he bought that field

and had the treasure for himself
You see he gave up everything.

People back then and people now
need to give up some things too

to give up their wrong ideas

things that were not from God.

that when you give up everything
