Hi kids. It's time for Sabbath School. So grab your Bibles and 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.20 let's go. 00:00:03.23\00:00:04.57 ¤ ¤ 00:00:04.60\00:00:07.04 Hello boys and girls. (Miss Ruthie) Welcome to 00:00:31.53\00:00:33.16 Starting With Jesus where we want to encourage you to start 00:00:33.19\00:00:36.67 everything you do with Jesus. I am so glad that you're here 00:00:36.70\00:00:41.74 with us today. We have a very exciting program for you and 00:00:41.77\00:00:46.78 during Miss Michelle's Bible story we are going to learn 00:00:46.81\00:00:49.64 about a man who couldn't see but he wanted to see Jesus. So you 00:00:49.68\00:00:56.92 won't want to miss that and before we get to any of that 00:00:56.95\00:01:00.29 let's start with some singing. 00:01:00.32\00:01:02.76 ¤ ¤ 00:01:02.79\00:01:07.26 ¤ ¤ 00:01:51.34\00:01:57.01 ¤ ¤ 00:03:08.75\00:03:13.32 ¤ ¤ 00:03:53.60\00:03:57.73 Hello boys and girls. I'm glad that you joined me in our 00:03:57.77\00:03:59.80 kitchen today. (Chitwood family) So the boys will tell you what 00:03:59.83\00:04:02.90 we're going to make today. What are we making? 00:04:02.94\00:04:04.74 Bread in a bag. 00:04:04.77\00:04:06.11 Bread in a bag. My friend Patsy Tower gave me this recipe and 00:04:06.14\00:04:09.18 she said I could share it with you. So that's what we're going 00:04:09.21\00:04:12.65 to do. Let's go ahead and we're going to get started. I'm going 00:04:12.68\00:04:15.62 to tell you what you need. The first thing you'll need is a 00:04:15.65\00:04:20.62 gallon Ziploc bag, whole wheat flour. You're going to need 00:04:20.66\00:04:24.99 white flour. You need some salt and some honey and some yeast 00:04:25.03\00:04:32.10 and some oil. Once you have all of that then you're going to 00:04:32.13\00:04:37.97 need some kind of spray that you might want to use for the pan so 00:04:38.01\00:04:43.04 that the bread doesn't stick. The first thing you're going to 00:04:43.08\00:04:46.41 do is get your Ziploc bag and we're going to put 1 cup of 00:04:46.45\00:04:51.95 whole wheat flour in it. So here's a cup for you. You can 00:04:51.99\00:04:55.96 just pour it in, the whole thing it's already measured. We 00:04:55.99\00:04:58.89 already measured it. There you go. All right, we're going to 00:04:58.93\00:05:08.40 need a teaspoon of salt and then a tablespoon of yeast. I buy my 00:05:08.44\00:05:15.04 yeast in big packets but what you can do is when you're at the 00:05:15.08\00:05:19.58 grocery store they have yeast in little single packets and so 00:05:19.61\00:05:23.65 that might be easier for you. So you want to mix those 00:05:23.69\00:05:26.45 ingredients together. So we're going to zip it closed. I can't. 00:05:26.49\00:05:29.72 Here I'll help you. Now shake it up, tip it upside down. Now 00:05:29.76\00:05:37.83 we're going to add our wet ingredients. So let's go ahead 00:05:37.87\00:05:41.44 and add our wet ingredients. 00:05:41.47\00:05:43.51 Open the bag now. 00:05:43.54\00:05:44.87 Okay, we're going to put in 2 tablespoons oil. So I've got my 00:05:44.91\00:05:49.31 tablespoon here and we're going to do 2 tablespoons of oil. 00:05:49.34\00:05:56.42 Okay and then we need 2 tablespoons honey. So the same 00:05:56.45\00:05:59.42 amount of oil and the same amount of honey. Here we go. 00:05:59.45\00:06:03.02 Now we're going to pour... 00:06:03.06\00:06:06.59 Ah that stinks. 00:06:06.63\00:06:08.66 Aden doesn't really like honey. Okay we need 1 cup of very warm 00:06:08.70\00:06:14.50 water. All right once you have all of that then we're going to 00:06:14.54\00:06:17.64 add our cup and a half of white flour. Now you might want to 00:06:17.67\00:06:21.64 make it a little more healthy and so you may just want to make 00:06:21.68\00:06:24.35 it all just whole wheat flour. That's fine. You can do that. 00:06:24.38\00:06:27.92 The reason why I'm using the white flour today is because my 00:06:27.95\00:06:31.62 whole wheat flour is very dense and so it makes my bread really 00:06:31.65\00:06:36.69 dense unless I add some of the white flour to it to make it a 00:06:36.73\00:06:42.13 little lighter. Thank you. First kind of mix it together. And 00:06:42.16\00:06:46.27 then once that's good then what we're going to do is squeeze out 00:06:46.30\00:06:48.37 all the air so that we can really knead the bread. Now it's 00:06:48.40\00:06:54.31 important to knead the bread for 10 minutes. You're going to 00:06:54.34\00:06:58.35 knead it, punch it, hit it, squeeze it, try not to break 00:06:58.38\00:07:02.22 the bag. You can do it like on a floured surface on your 00:07:02.25\00:07:08.99 counter top if you want, but you don't have to. It's up to you. 00:07:09.02\00:07:13.29 This is nice because it just keeps all the mess inside the 00:07:13.33\00:07:16.06 bag and then you don't have to worry about it. So we are going 00:07:16.10\00:07:19.37 to knead this bread for 10 minutes and then we'll be right 00:07:19.40\00:07:22.40 back and show you what to do next. 00:07:22.44\00:07:24.14 Jesus was trying to help people understand who he was and what 00:07:24.17\00:07:28.54 the kingdom of God is like and what kind of people will be 00:07:28.58\00:07:32.35 there in God's kingdom. Well one of the stories that Jesus told 00:07:32.38\00:07:35.98 was about making bread. God's love works like yeast. No matter 00:07:36.02\00:07:42.86 who we are or what we have been like, whether we've done things 00:07:42.89\00:07:46.59 that are good or whether we've done things that are terrible 00:07:46.63\00:07:49.66 God's love in our hearts changes us just like yeast makes dough 00:07:49.70\00:07:56.87 into a loaf of good bread. 00:07:56.91\00:07:59.87 Here we are kneading our bread. You can see that it is really 00:07:59.91\00:08:04.88 looking good. Once you have your bread made into a loaf 00:08:04.91\00:08:07.85 we're going to cover it with tin foil and put it in a warm oven 00:08:07.88\00:08:11.65 for about 20 minutes so that the bread can rise. Then we're 00:08:11.69\00:08:16.32 going to turn up the oven to 350 degrees for 35 minutes and we're 00:08:16.36\00:08:21.70 going to cook it then. Let's go ahead and do that. Okay here's 00:08:21.73\00:08:26.07 our bread. We're going to cut into it. Oh yeah. Look at that. 00:08:26.10\00:08:32.81 Yummy fluffy bread. Well, I'm so glad that you guys joined us 00:08:32.84\00:08:41.22 so that we could make some bread together. And I challenge you to 00:08:41.25\00:08:44.12 make you own loaf. I know you'll like it. So until next time 00:08:44.15\00:08:48.39 we'll see you guys later. Bye-bye. That is really good. 00:08:48.42\00:08:54.13 ¤ ¤ 00:08:54.16\00:09:11.25 Have you ever met someone who is blind before. (Miss Michelle) 00:09:11.28\00:09:14.78 Being blind means they don't have the ability to see. Right? 00:09:14.82\00:09:18.99 Well I had that opportunity one summer when I worked at camp, 00:09:19.02\00:09:23.96 summer camp. And we had actually a whole week where we had 00:09:23.99\00:09:28.60 several blind campers come and enjoy all the summer camp 00:09:28.63\00:09:32.07 activities and boy did we have a great time. In preparation 00:09:32.10\00:09:36.34 though for that camp they wanted us to understand what being 00:09:36.37\00:09:40.34 blind was like so we did several activities to help us understand 00:09:40.38\00:09:44.15 that. One of the activities was we had to try to feed somebody 00:09:44.18\00:09:47.58 when we were blind. And that was really hard. Trying to feed 00:09:47.62\00:09:51.59 yourself is hard enough. Trying to feed someone else was 00:09:51.62\00:09:54.06 difficult as well. We had to also help lead each other when 00:09:54.09\00:09:57.36 we were blind. Did you know that one of the ways that they taught 00:09:57.39\00:09:59.86 us to do that was interesting because I had thought maybe 00:09:59.89\00:10:02.16 you'd link arms with them or maybe you'd just hold their back 00:10:02.20\00:10:05.90 or their shoulder. But actually how they do that is you'd grab 00:10:05.93\00:10:09.50 right here on their elbow. The blind person, the person who's 00:10:09.54\00:10:12.67 pretending to be blind in this case, would grab the elbow of 00:10:12.71\00:10:15.64 that person and actually that was a great way to help them 00:10:15.68\00:10:18.51 through tricky places for walking. I learned so much. 00:10:18.55\00:10:23.75 Being blind is very difficult and I can't even imagine it to 00:10:23.79\00:10:28.26 the full extent but from that experience it helped me 00:10:28.29\00:10:30.69 understand just a little bit of what it's like and I gained many 00:10:30.73\00:10:35.66 amazing, amazing friends. Now our first story today is about 00:10:35.70\00:10:39.73 someone who was blind but today you get a special deal because 00:10:39.77\00:10:43.30 you get three stories for the price of one, free. Let's pray 00:10:43.34\00:10:46.91 and ask Jesus to be with us. 00:10:46.94\00:10:49.14 Dear heavenly Father, thank you for loving us, for being here 00:10:49.18\00:10:52.31 with us and for helping us to see you clearly. Please send 00:10:52.35\00:10:56.85 your Spirit to be with us as we enjoy these three stories from 00:10:56.89\00:10:59.55 your word right now. In your name we pray, Amen. 00:10:59.59\00:11:02.82 All right. The first story, as promised, is about a blind man. 00:11:02.86\00:11:07.03 whose name was Bartimaeus and here is his story. If you can 00:11:07.06\00:11:11.73 imagine with me two blind beggars sitting on the road just 00:11:11.77\00:11:15.27 outside Jericho. Beggars because they were begging for people to 00:11:15.30\00:11:19.17 give them money or food. They didn't have a way to make money 00:11:19.21\00:11:22.24 or have those things because of their blindness. Mark tells this 00:11:22.28\00:11:28.82 story and he focuses on one of them. His name was, What was 00:11:28.85\00:11:31.42 it? Bartimaeus. That's right. You see he had heard of Jesus 00:11:31.45\00:11:36.09 before and he believed that if he had the chance to see Jesus 00:11:36.12\00:11:40.86 right, he would be able to see. If he had a chance to come into 00:11:40.90\00:11:45.40 contact with Jesus he would be able to see. Jesus was leaving 00:11:45.43\00:11:48.77 Jericho with his disciples and a big multitude of people. Often 00:11:48.80\00:11:54.01 times Jesus had a lot of people following him, didn't he? 00:11:54.04\00:11:56.91 Mark 10 verse 47 and 48 says: One again if you want to look at 00:11:56.95\00:12:02.52 it with me you can pause it or you could jot down the verse 00:12:02.55\00:12:06.05 and look at it after the story today. Mark chapter 10 verse 47 00:12:06.09\00:12:11.83 says: And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth he began 00:12:11.86\00:12:16.53 to cry out and say, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me. Now 00:12:16.56\00:12:22.07 the people who were there warned him to be quiet but he cried out 00:12:22.10\00:12:25.37 all the more [he didn't give up] Jesus, Son of David have mercy 00:12:25.41\00:12:29.78 on me. 00:12:29.81\00:12:31.15 Now what do you think that Jesus would do? 00:12:31.18\00:12:33.78 I got to thinking because when I hear my son's cry I often times 00:12:33.82\00:12:38.99 know it's my son even if he's a long ways away. Maybe if you 00:12:39.02\00:12:42.26 hear your parent's voice or your brother or sister's voice you 00:12:42.29\00:12:44.63 know it's them. I think that Jesus had the same talent and 00:12:44.66\00:12:48.40 that was he could hear people who needed him. And he stopped. 00:12:48.43\00:12:52.13 Even though there was a huge multitude of people he had heard 00:12:52.17\00:12:55.20 Bartimaeus' cry and what did Jesus do? In verse 49 he said: 00:12:55.24\00:12:58.97 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then 00:12:59.01\00:13:01.74 they called the blind man saying to him, Be of good cheer, Rise, 00:13:01.78\00:13:05.75 he's calling for you. [He - That's Jesus, right] And 00:13:05.78\00:13:10.05 throwing aside his garment he rose and came to Jesus. [But 00:13:10.09\00:13:14.86 what would Jesus do?] So Jesus answered and said to him, What 00:13:14.89\00:13:18.69 is it that you want me to do for you? The blind man said to Him, 00:13:18.73\00:13:22.73 Rabboni,... 00:13:22.76\00:13:24.10 which means when we looked it up Rabboni meant master or 00:13:24.13\00:13:27.37 great one. So it was a display of respect. 00:13:27.40\00:13:30.31 Rabboni, that I might receive my sight. Then Jesus said to him, 00:13:30.34\00:13:35.34 Go your way, your faith has made you well. And immediately he 00:13:35.38\00:13:41.68 received his sight and he followed Jesus on the road. 00:13:41.72\00:13:46.52 How amazing. Blind Bartimaeus believed and received his sight. 00:13:46.55\00:13:53.13 God is amazing, God is so good. Now we're on to story number two 00:13:53.16\00:13:58.80 The other day I got this out. You see, this is my recipe to 00:13:58.83\00:14:03.64 make bread and my husband wanted me to make him some bread so 00:14:03.67\00:14:08.31 finally I got around to doing it Now what are some of the 00:14:08.34\00:14:11.38 ingredients in bread? Maybe you've made it before with your 00:14:11.41\00:14:14.68 Mom, or grandma or aunt. Or maybe you're like Miss Michelle 00:14:14.72\00:14:17.85 and you'd kind of rather just go to the store and buy some. 00:14:17.89\00:14:19.82 Although homemade bread is pretty tasty. Well, you need 00:14:19.85\00:14:25.16 flour, you need water, you might want to put a little oil in it. 00:14:25.19\00:14:28.00 Sometimes people throw in some nuts. I can't do that yet 00:14:28.03\00:14:31.03 because it's a choking hazard for my son. But later one we 00:14:31.07\00:14:33.40 might do that. Or maybe some oats, that's yummy too in bread. 00:14:33.44\00:14:37.44 Now in Matthew, we're going to back up to Matthew, verse 13. 00:14:37.47\00:14:42.44 Jesus taught a lesson with bread Hmm. He did that several times 00:14:42.48\00:14:48.52 didn't he. Do you know the secret ingredient for bread? 00:14:48.55\00:14:52.09 I have it right here in this bag I had to put it in here because 00:14:52.12\00:14:55.69 it needs to stay cold. Would you like to see what the secret 00:14:55.72\00:14:59.26 ingredient is? You see, if I put flour and some oil and maybe a 00:14:59.29\00:15:04.70 little salt, you know, in bread it would just stay the same. 00:15:04.73\00:15:09.54 What is the secret ingredient. The secret ingredient is called 00:15:09.57\00:15:13.58 yeast and mine comes in a little jar. And the yeast just looks 00:15:13.61\00:15:18.81 tiny, tiny little... Oh you probably can't even see it. 00:15:18.85\00:15:22.32 It looks like almost like the mustard seed from the other week 00:15:22.35\00:15:24.42 but tiny little pebbles, tiny, tiny, tiny little pebbles. 00:15:24.45\00:15:27.26 And Jesus taught them a lesson about yeast. Shall we read 00:15:27.29\00:15:30.33 what it is? 00:15:30.36\00:15:31.69 Again Jesus spoke a parable to them. The kingdom of heaven is 00:15:31.73\00:15:35.16 like leaven [that's yeast] which a woman took and hid in three 00:15:35.20\00:15:40.24 measures of meal until it was all leavened. 00:15:40.27\00:15:42.64 You see it only takes a tiny, tiny little bit of yeast and 00:15:42.67\00:15:46.34 when you put it in the bread, the meal, and you put it by 00:15:46.37\00:15:50.15 something warm, it grows and grows and grows into a 00:15:50.18\00:15:53.58 beautiful loaf of bread that you're sure to enjoy. Jesus 00:15:53.62\00:15:57.05 wanted the Pharisees to know and understand and this is a quote 00:15:57.09\00:16:00.56 from your lesson, that God's love works just like yeast. 00:16:00.59\00:16:05.09 No matter who you are or what we have been like, God's love in 00:16:05.13\00:16:10.87 our hearts changes us like yeast makes dough into a loaf of good 00:16:10.90\00:16:16.37 bread. What a cool lesson. All from a loaf of bread. On to 00:16:16.40\00:16:20.94 story number three. This one's called Finding A Treasure. 00:16:20.98\00:16:25.81 It's also in Matthew chapter 13 and this is about a man. 00:16:25.85\00:16:32.99 This man actually had rented a field and he was renting it. 00:16:33.02\00:16:38.39 People still do this today, where they'll rent the land and 00:16:38.43\00:16:42.03 then they'll work the land and plant a crop and harvest the 00:16:42.06\00:16:45.23 crop. Then they pay the land owner some money. Actually not 00:16:45.27\00:16:49.27 terribly a lot of money. I mean if you were doing it with a lot 00:16:49.30\00:16:52.21 of land it would probably be a lot of money but they usually 00:16:52.24\00:16:55.08 make a pretty reasonable deal for them to use that land. But 00:16:55.11\00:17:00.45 the land doesn't belong to them, only the crops that they grow on 00:17:00.48\00:17:02.98 it do. So this man was out in the field working on his crops 00:17:03.02\00:17:09.56 and the Bible says in Matthew 13 verse 44: 00:17:09.59\00:17:15.36 Again the kingdom is like a treasure hidden in a field 00:17:15.40\00:17:19.00 which a man found and hid. 00:17:19.03\00:17:21.70 Now why would he hide the treasure. You see he's out 00:17:21.74\00:17:24.31 working in this rented field and he finds a treasure. Wow. Maybe 00:17:24.34\00:17:29.28 the person who had owned the field a long time ago had hidden 00:17:29.31\00:17:32.91 that treasure. You see, back then they didn't necessarily 00:17:32.95\00:17:36.45 have banks like we do today where you can put your treasure, 00:17:36.48\00:17:38.89 your money, away safely. They often times would bury their 00:17:38.92\00:17:44.69 treasure somewhere and remember where it was. But sometimes they 00:17:44.73\00:17:48.90 may pass away before they could tell their family members or 00:17:48.93\00:17:52.43 someone else about where the treasure was. So this treasure 00:17:52.47\00:17:56.07 was unclaimed. It was just in this field. My bet is even the 00:17:56.10\00:18:00.48 owner of the field didn't know where it was. Why does Miss 00:18:00.51\00:18:03.78 Michelle think that? Well let's continue reading. 00:18:03.81\00:18:07.38 He found and for joy over it he goes and sells all he has and 00:18:07.42\00:18:12.32 buys that field. 00:18:12.35\00:18:14.42 Now first of all he would have had to go and talk to the person 00:18:14.46\00:18:16.46 who owned the field. And if they knew there was a treasure there 00:18:16.49\00:18:19.19 do you think they would have sold it? No way. In fact, that's 00:18:19.23\00:18:22.90 why he rehid the treasure. Right Then he told people kind of a 00:18:22.93\00:18:28.64 partial truth. He said, I must buy the field, which is true, 00:18:28.67\00:18:33.44 he didn't tell them why. Right? He left out the part about the 00:18:33.48\00:18:36.18 part about the treasure. And you can imagine what his family 00:18:36.21\00:18:39.11 thought of him when he came home and said, There's this field, 00:18:39.15\00:18:42.55 really nice field. I'm thinking we should sell everything. I can 00:18:42.58\00:18:46.69 just imagine my husband's face if I came home and said this. 00:18:46.72\00:18:49.09 We should just sell everything we have and buy this field. 00:18:49.12\00:18:53.50 And my husband's like does it have a home on it? No, no, no 00:18:53.53\00:18:57.93 home. Does it have a business on it? No, no business. Does it, 00:18:57.97\00:19:01.94 like did you find gold? And at that point the man would like 00:19:01.97\00:19:06.54 mm mmm mm because he kind of had found a treasure. Right? But his 00:19:06.57\00:19:11.75 family did think he was downright crazy. But he knew 00:19:11.78\00:19:14.75 that it would be worth it so he did. The Bible verse says he 00:19:14.78\00:19:17.99 sold everything that he had in order to buy this field. Can you 00:19:18.02\00:19:22.69 imagine the day that he purchased it and he said to his 00:19:22.72\00:19:25.26 wife and kids, Come on, let's go check out our new field. We can 00:19:25.29\00:19:29.16 just imagine the kids saying, Oh Dad are you serious. I cannot 00:19:29.20\00:19:32.37 even believe you made us sell everything. What are we going 00:19:32.40\00:19:35.14 do now. We have like, we have a field. Yay, let's roll around in 00:19:35.17\00:19:39.74 the dirt. Right? And his wife I can imagine maybe she was 00:19:39.77\00:19:42.61 even rolling her eyes a little bit at him, who knows and she 00:19:42.64\00:19:45.71 couldn't believe that it had come to this. But as they got 00:19:45.75\00:19:48.02 out to the field, he pulled out his shovel. You can see them 00:19:48.05\00:19:51.55 saying, Dad what are you doing? We don't want to work. This is 00:19:51.59\00:19:54.62 about like the worst day of our lives, we don't want to work. 00:19:54.66\00:19:56.93 He said, No wait, wait. And he started to dig, dig, dig and 00:19:56.96\00:20:03.57 clunk his shovel hit something. Well, this is curious. Now they 00:20:03.60\00:20:08.94 were paying attention. Right? He opened up that chest and he 00:20:08.97\00:20:12.47 showed them the treasure and it all made sense. They weren't so 00:20:12.51\00:20:17.55 mad at their dad anymore were they? And he bought that field 00:20:17.58\00:20:22.92 and had the treasure for himself You see he gave up everything. 00:20:22.95\00:20:28.79 People back then and people now need to give up some things too 00:20:28.82\00:20:34.20 don't we? People weren't willing to give up their wrong ideas 00:20:34.23\00:20:38.73 about Jesus and about God's kingdom. They were hanging onto 00:20:38.77\00:20:44.34 those, they were hanging onto the rules that were made up by 00:20:44.37\00:20:46.07 men. They were hanging onto things that were not from God. 00:20:46.11\00:20:49.01 Jesus wanted to show them that when you give up everything 00:20:49.04\00:20:53.65 you will see the treasure that God has in store for you. Wow! 00:20:53.68\00:20:59.69 Our memory verse focus was I rejoice at your word as one who 00:20:59.72\00:21:04.66 finds a great treasure. The treasure here is heaven, being 00:21:04.69\00:21:10.23 with Jesus forever. The treasure is God's great love for us and 00:21:10.27\00:21:15.20 when we let everything else from the world go then 00:21:15.24\00:21:18.01 we can see the 00:21:18.04\00:21:19.97 treasure that he has for us. I cannot wait for heaven. How 00:21:20.01\00:21:24.08 about you? And sometimes we may feel like we have to give up 00:21:24.11\00:21:27.28 things in this world or may not be able to get to do all the 00:21:27.32\00:21:30.39 things that other friends are doing or maybe things just don't 00:21:30.42\00:21:33.79 make sense when our parents say yes or no to certain things but 00:21:33.82\00:21:37.53 when we see what Jesus did for us... You know He gave up 00:21:37.56\00:21:40.30 everything too. And when we give up things for Him we'll soon 00:21:40.33\00:21:45.73 know the treasure that is waiting for us. Wow. I'm going 00:21:45.77\00:21:50.14 pray for you guys right now that you would listen to Jesus and 00:21:50.17\00:21:53.94 have his treasure in your heart. 00:21:53.98\00:21:56.18 Dear heavenly Father, thank you so very much for loving us and 00:21:56.21\00:21:58.91 for giving us the treasure of eternal life, life forever with 00:21:58.95\00:22:02.38 you.
