Today's story is called Finding
What Was Lost. Oh, if I have

like a piece to a puzzle or a

a book that I really wanted
to read or, the sky's the limit.

Right? It makes me so bothered
until I can find it and today's

story will talk about that.
The Pharisees didn't understand

Jesus. They just could not wrap
their minds around Jesus. He

would hang out with sinners, he
talked to them, he ate with them

he healed them. Uugh why would
you do that? That just... they

couldn't comprehend it. It was
unlike anything that they had

ever, ever thought was
appropriate in the past.

Let's pick up the story in Luke
15, Matthew, Mark, Luke, we're

Then all the tax collectors
and the sinners drew near to him

They got it. Right?
They understood way more than

the Pharisees and the
teachers of that day did.

The Pharisees and
scribes complained saying,

This man receives

sinners and eats with them. [Oh
ah, goodness. So] He spoke this

parable to them saying:
What man of you having a hundred

sheep, if he loses one of them
will not leave the 99 in the

wilderness and go after the one
who is lost until he finds it.

Picture this: It's a cold, dark
night and we're just getting

home. You see, we're shepherds
and as we get home our sheep are

walking into their fold. Now
a fold is like a pen or a fenced

in area where they might sleep
for the night. And as they pass

us and go through the gate
we count them. Right? We want to

make sure that we didn't lose
any and as we count, counting up

to a hundred... Can you guys do
that? Probably a lot of you can.

Maybe some of you could even
count up to a thousand. Boy that

would be an activity that would
take awhile. Right? I'm sure

your parents wouldn't mind.
A hundred. So he counted and

counted and he got up to 99
and he thought, oooh. Wait maybe

I missed one. Maybe one scurried
around and through and I missed

it. So what do you do? You count
again. When my husband and I do

our budget, and I'm even using
a calculator, it's a lot of

numbers to add up, sometimes I
get different numbers at the end

and I do best out of three
usually so hopefully out of

three times I get the same
number twice so I can assume

that that number is correct.
Same thing for the shepherd.

And he counted again and he got
99 and he thought, okay, I'll

just check one more time. Maybe
and nope 99. That cold dark

night you see the shepherd
heading back out into the fields

back out into the mountain
passes looking and looking and

looking, calling, searching.
Probably had a candle or some

sort of light to try to find
that lost sheep. Sure enough

pretty soon he hears the sheep,
bleating, making a noise. Right?

And he hurries there. And does
he scold the sheep and say, You

bad and naughty sheep. How dare
you run away from me like that?

I'm going to get you. You come

whupping with my shepherd's rod.
No the shepherd, oop I gave it

away. Jesus represented by the
shepherd in the story, he picked

up the sheep and said, Oh buddy,
I'm so glad I found you. And he

checked the sheep over, checked
the sheep's body to see if it

was hurt and put some salve or
some ointment on the wounds and

picked up the sheep and put
it over his shoulders and maybe

carried it like cradled it
like a baby, I don't know, and

carried the sheep back home to
the fold. Isn't that a beautiful

picture of how much Jesus loves

trying to show that to the
Pharisees and everyone who was

listening, to the Gentiles, to
the Jews, to everyone. He's like

I love you this much. In fact,
Jesus, like I already slipped

and told you, Jesus is
represented by this good

shepherd. And Jesus from the
very beginning, from before time

began, Jesus make the choice
to come rescue us if we needed

rescuing. Sadly we made the
choice that we did need rescuing

In fact, our lesson said
and I thought this was really

interesting, out of millions
of worlds that were created only

the earth, us, obeyed Satan
and we're like lost sheep now.

Right? Because of that choice.
Jesus the good shepherd, he

would have come down here for
one person. If he knew, and he

knows the end from the beginning
that in heaven only one person

would choose to be there with
him, he still would have come

down and died for that one
person. Wow! Now I'm having a

around that and I feel like I'll

be studying that for all of
eternity, how that love works.

the forever promise of being

lot of times in the Bible you'll
notice that important things

this. And that's a big important

The more times that something is

actually goes over three stories

about being lost. The first one
was about the sheep. Right? The

So let's hop on into story
number two about something else

that got lost. You see:

For what woman [it says in verse
eight] having 10 silver coins if

she loses but one coin does not
light a lamp, sweep the house

and try to look everywhere until
she finds that coin. Right?

You might say, Oh it's just one
silver coin. But in reading what

the lesson said and doing a
little research online I found

that that one coin
probably a wedding gift

that she had received

or a gift from someone much like
the things that I have that are

special to me, were given to me.
Oh if I lost any of them I'd be

so sad. And not only was it
probably a special gift given

to her, ten silver coins, the
coins were more than likely the

Greek coin which were called the
drachmas, I'm not sure if I'm

saying that right because
obviously I didn't live back

then, but each one was worth
about a day's wages. So it was

kind of like her savings.
She had 10 days of wages. That's

almost two weeks. Right? It is
two work weeks. And those were

her savings and they were really
special to her. Right? She

searched high and low. Now why
would she need to light a lamp?

Well, you see back then homes
often didn't have windows so

they were very dark inside and
fact they might leave the door

open during the day to get light
but during the evening hours and

when it was past sunset they'd
have to light a lamp. And she

would search and search until
she found her coin. Let's find

story I'd just like to talk real

that mean because I think it's

important the words that we're
memorizing and not just memorize

them. It's also important to
realize what the words mean that

Sometimes we might say things

and they might mean something
that we don't realize or that we

do realize and we shouldn't
actually say them. Right?

So let's jump back to repent.
It's important to know the

meaning of a word. What does it
mean to repent? Hmm. To repent.

If I repent of my sin, what am
I doing? Well I'm admitting that

my sin was wrong. It's an
important thing because a lot

of times we like to make excuses
So like when we feel guilty

about something, like the Holy
Spirit's whispering in our ear,

like bad choice, that was a
bummer. Ah, did you want to say

anything to God about that?
We're like, well I didn't mean

to. Like I'm sure He gets it. It

do it again. This is like
the first time that it's ever

happened so like mmm. No
repentance, true repentance, is

that when we see what we did
that was wrong repentance means

being truly sorry for that thing
and what does that verse say.

It says when we have true
repentance in our hearts there

is a party in heaven. The angels
just throw a big party and

that's just for one person.
And their so excited to see us

that crazy that making a good

choice like asking God to
forgive your sins because you're

truly sorry for them can cause
a party in heaven. But more

importantly it will cause a
change of heart in us. And that

process will begin and it will
change our lives. Jesus wants to

do that for us. He wants to take
us lost sinners and have us find

the merciful Savior, the Messiah
who loves us so much, who cannot

wait to come down in that
cloud and pick us up and head to

heaven. I can't wait for that
day either. And I'm excited for
