Shall we bow our heads for prayer? 00:00:35.57\00:00:38.46 Father in heaven, we thank you so much 00:00:38.49\00:00:40.18 for the opportunity of being here today 00:00:40.21\00:00:42.87 to study this magnificent book of Job. 00:00:42.90\00:00:46.46 We ask Father for the presence of your Holy Spirit. 00:00:46.49\00:00:49.41 Give us clarity of thought and give us willingness of heart 00:00:49.44\00:00:53.96 to receive the word that You will plant 00:00:53.99\00:00:57.28 and we ask this in the precious name 00:00:57.31\00:00:59.26 of Your beloved son Jesus, amen. 00:00:59.29\00:01:04.13 In our last study together, we analyzed the story 00:01:04.16\00:01:07.72 of this great patriarch Job and today in part II 00:01:07.75\00:01:12.95 we want to study the story of Job 00:01:12.98\00:01:16.25 from a different perspective. 00:01:16.28\00:01:18.24 We want to look at the messianic meaning 00:01:18.27\00:01:22.35 of the Book of Job, 00:01:22.38\00:01:24.46 because the Book of Job really is not only about Job. 00:01:24.49\00:01:28.12 It's first of all about Job, secondly about Jesus 00:01:28.15\00:01:34.58 and in the third place about what will happen to God's people 00:01:34.61\00:01:38.85 when they go through the end time tribulation. 00:01:38.88\00:01:42.59 Now, what I'm saying is that the Book of Job is actually 00:01:42.62\00:01:46.77 a type of what would happen with Jesus, a type of Christ. 00:01:46.80\00:01:52.32 Now we need to understand 00:01:52.35\00:01:53.38 that a type is never as perfect 00:01:53.41\00:01:55.35 as the fulfillment or the anti type. 00:01:55.38\00:01:58.09 In other words, Job is a sinful human being 00:01:58.12\00:02:02.05 who becomes an illustration of the experience 00:02:02.08\00:02:05.16 that Jesus would go through. 00:02:05.19\00:02:07.31 Now there are other types of Jesus 00:02:07.34\00:02:08.99 in the Old Testament as well, you know we have David, 00:02:09.02\00:02:11.98 Joseph and other individuals 00:02:12.01\00:02:13.99 in the Old Testament that prefigured 00:02:14.02\00:02:16.25 what Jesus would do in his life time. 00:02:16.28\00:02:18.85 And Job is no exception to this rule 00:02:18.88\00:02:23.04 that the Old Testament characters 00:02:23.07\00:02:25.07 are types or illustrations of Jesus Christ. 00:02:25.10\00:02:29.05 In other words, Job foreshadows the experience of Jesus 00:02:29.08\00:02:33.74 who would come about 2,000 years after this story transpired. 00:02:33.77\00:02:40.38 Now, something that we need to remember 00:02:40.41\00:02:42.32 about the first study that we had together 00:02:42.35\00:02:45.43 and that is that the entire heavenly council is observing 00:02:45.46\00:02:50.88 what is taking place in the story of Job. 00:02:50.91\00:02:53.85 In other words, this story is transpiring in- 00:02:53.88\00:02:58.89 on earth but it's been seen or it's been witnessed in heaven, 00:02:58.92\00:03:03.32 because God is trying to prove a very important point. 00:03:03.35\00:03:07.94 We also notice in our last study, 00:03:07.97\00:03:10.19 that Satan was the culprit working behind the scenes. 00:03:10.22\00:03:14.90 Job did not understand this, 00:03:14.93\00:03:17.28 but the story is very clear that all of the calamities 00:03:17.31\00:03:20.35 that Job suffered came to him as a result 00:03:20.38\00:03:23.94 of the work of Satan behind the scenes. 00:03:23.97\00:03:27.69 In other words, it was Satan who unleashed 00:03:27.72\00:03:30.01 all of the powers of hell against this man. 00:03:30.04\00:03:34.63 And as we noticed in the first study on Job, 00:03:34.66\00:03:37.65 the purpose of Satan's work was to lead Job 00:03:37.68\00:03:43.24 to let go of his relationship with God. 00:03:43.27\00:03:47.44 In other words, it was to prove before the universe 00:03:47.47\00:03:50.57 that Job served God not because he loved God 00:03:50.60\00:03:54.74 but because of everything that God did for him, 00:03:54.77\00:03:58.08 because God helped him and God prospered him. 00:03:58.11\00:04:01.64 So we are gonna take a look at the story of Job 00:04:01.67\00:04:04.07 from the perspective of the Messiah. 00:04:04.10\00:04:06.80 In other words, we are going to draw 00:04:06.83\00:04:08.35 a parallel between this Old Testament patriarch 00:04:08.38\00:04:11.52 and the experience of Jesus Christ. 00:04:11.55\00:04:14.56 The first point that I would like us to notice 00:04:14.59\00:04:16.66 is the moral uprightness of Job. 00:04:16.69\00:04:21.38 We are told in Job 1:8 00:04:21.41\00:04:24.89 the following about this great patriarch. 00:04:24.92\00:04:27.78 And by way, these are the words of the Lord. 00:04:27.81\00:04:31.39 It says, "Then the Lord said to Satan, 00:04:31.42\00:04:34.19 "Have you considered My servant Job, 00:04:34.22\00:04:37.13 that there is none like him on the earth, 00:04:37.16\00:04:39.83 a blameless and upright man, 00:04:39.86\00:04:43.68 one who fears God and shuns evil?" 00:04:43.71\00:04:47.63 Notice the description, He was blameless, upright, 00:04:47.66\00:04:51.76 he feared God and He shunned evil. 00:04:51.79\00:04:55.45 In other words, he had a sterling moral character. 00:04:55.48\00:04:59.63 Now, Jesus also had a sterling character, 00:04:59.66\00:05:04.60 moral character. 00:05:04.63\00:05:06.15 We find in the Book of Hebrews 7:26 00:05:06.18\00:05:10.67 a description of that character of Jesus. 00:05:10.70\00:05:14.41 We are told there in Hebrews 7:26 00:05:14.44\00:05:18.62 "For such a High Priest was fitting for us, 00:05:18.65\00:05:22.86 who is holy, harmless, 00:05:22.89\00:05:26.70 undefiled, separate from sinners, 00:05:26.73\00:05:30.02 and has become higher than the heavens." 00:05:30.05\00:05:33.20 Notice the description of the character of Jesus holy, 00:05:33.23\00:05:36.11 harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners. 00:05:36.14\00:05:39.62 Very similar to the description that we find in Job 1:8 00:05:39.65\00:05:44.76 and which is repeated also in Job Chapter 2 00:05:44.79\00:05:48.14 the first couple of verses. 00:05:48.17\00:05:50.37 Another parallel that we notice 00:05:50.40\00:05:51.90 between Job and Jesus is the fact 00:05:51.93\00:05:55.16 that Job was a very rich man. 00:05:55.19\00:05:58.48 In fact, he was the richest man 00:05:58.51\00:06:00.32 in all of the east according to Job Chapter 1. 00:06:00.35\00:06:04.16 And of course we all know 00:06:04.19\00:06:06.10 that Jesus was the owner of the universe. 00:06:06.13\00:06:09.54 And we also know that Job lost all of his riches. 00:06:09.57\00:06:13.40 And Jesus also gave up all of His riches. 00:06:13.43\00:06:17.13 Notice 2 Corinthians 8:9, 2 Corinthians 8:9 00:06:17.16\00:06:23.51 speaks about the riches of Jesus 00:06:23.54\00:06:25.81 and how Jesus gave up those riches 00:06:25.84\00:06:27.93 to come to this world. 00:06:27.96\00:06:29.52 We are told there by the Apostle Paul. 00:06:29.55\00:06:31.63 "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, 00:06:31.66\00:06:36.28 that though He was rich, 00:06:36.31\00:06:39.07 for your sakes He became poor, 00:06:39.10\00:06:41.89 that you through His poverty might become rich." 00:06:41.92\00:06:47.26 So very clearly the Apostle Paul tells us 00:06:47.29\00:06:49.52 that Jesus was rich, but Jesus became poor. 00:06:49.55\00:06:54.50 And according to scripture, He not only became poor, 00:06:54.53\00:06:57.80 He became the poorest of the poor. 00:06:57.83\00:07:00.38 He took the place of a servant 00:07:00.41\00:07:02.19 and He even humbled Himself more than a servant 00:07:02.22\00:07:05.85 dying the death of the cross. 00:07:05.88\00:07:09.40 Another interesting parallel 00:07:09.43\00:07:10.62 that we notice between Job and Jesus 00:07:10.65\00:07:13.05 is the fact that both of them 00:07:13.08\00:07:15.25 lost the support of their own family. 00:07:15.28\00:07:18.91 Their own family did not understand 00:07:18.94\00:07:21.61 the experience that they were going through. 00:07:21.64\00:07:24.29 Notice Job 19:13-15, 00:07:24.32\00:07:28.81 Job 19:13- 15 00:07:28.84\00:07:33.96 speaking about job we find this words 00:07:33.99\00:07:37.54 Speaking about God, 00:07:37.57\00:07:39.49 "He has removed my brothers far from me, 00:07:39.52\00:07:45.79 and my acquaintances are completely estranged from me. 00:07:45.82\00:07:51.39 My relatives have failed, 00:07:51.42\00:07:53.45 and my close friends have forgotten me. 00:07:53.48\00:07:57.77 Those who dwell in my house, 00:07:57.80\00:07:59.89 and my maidservants, count me as a stranger, 00:07:59.92\00:08:04.19 I am an alien in their sight." 00:08:04.22\00:08:08.03 In other words, forsaken by His own family, 00:08:08.06\00:08:10.93 misunderstood by His relatives and by His acquaintances. 00:08:10.96\00:08:16.16 Now, we find several instances in the gospels 00:08:16.19\00:08:18.97 that Jesus was also misunderstood. 00:08:19.00\00:08:21.36 We have for example in Mark Chapter 13, 00:08:21.39\00:08:24.75 the mother of Jesus and His brothers come 00:08:24.78\00:08:27.33 because they want to take Jesus home 00:08:27.36\00:08:29.20 because they feel that Jesus 00:08:29.23\00:08:30.59 is going to have a nervous breakdown. 00:08:30.62\00:08:32.78 Obviously, they don't understand His mission, 00:08:32.81\00:08:35.50 and in fact, in John 7:5 00:08:35.53\00:08:39.20 we find this very telling short statement. 00:08:39.23\00:08:43.26 John says, "For even His brothers 00:08:43.29\00:08:46.89 did not believe in Him." 00:08:46.92\00:08:50.13 Even His brothers did not believe in Him, 00:08:50.16\00:08:52.94 just as happened with the patriarch Job. 00:08:52.97\00:08:57.21 Another interesting parallel 00:08:57.24\00:08:58.67 is that Job was not only forsaken 00:08:58.70\00:09:01.58 by his relatives and his family, 00:09:01.61\00:09:03.66 he was also forsaken by his friends. 00:09:03.69\00:09:07.74 Notice Job 19:and I'm going to read verse 19 00:09:07.77\00:09:12.00 and verses 21 and 22. 00:09:12.03\00:09:14.84 Job 19:19 and then verses 21 and 22. 00:09:14.87\00:09:21.17 Here Job is speaking and he says, 00:09:21.20\00:09:23.19 "All my close friends abhor me, 00:09:23.22\00:09:27.97 and those whom I love have turned against me." 00:09:28.00\00:09:33.21 Verse 21, " Have pity on me, have pity on me, 00:09:33.24\00:09:38.85 O you my friends, for the hand of God has struck me! 00:09:38.88\00:09:44.44 Why do you persecute me as God does, 00:09:44.47\00:09:47.49 and are not satisfied with my flesh? 00:09:47.52\00:09:51.35 So we find in this passage 00:09:51.38\00:09:52.75 that Job is actually persecuted by his own friends. 00:09:52.78\00:09:57.79 He is forsaken by his friends, not only by his family. 00:09:57.82\00:10:01.70 Now it's interesting to notice 00:10:01.73\00:10:03.23 that Job was especially forsaken by three very close friends. 00:10:03.26\00:10:08.17 You can find that at the end of Chapter 2. 00:10:08.20\00:10:11.45 Now, we find in the New Testament 00:10:11.48\00:10:13.47 that Jesus also had three very close friends 00:10:13.50\00:10:17.51 among the disciples. 00:10:17.54\00:10:19.36 They were called Peter, James and John. 00:10:19.39\00:10:23.12 Notice Mark 14:33 and then we are going to read verse 50. 00:10:23.15\00:10:28.89 Mark 14:33 and then we will read verse 50. 00:10:28.92\00:10:34.57 It says here, "And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, 00:10:34.60\00:10:41.56 and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed." 00:10:41.59\00:10:45.62 Notice that he took three disciples to be with Him 00:10:45.65\00:10:48.75 in His greatest sufferings in the Garden of Gethsemane. 00:10:48.78\00:10:52.59 A little bit later on in verse 50 00:10:52.62\00:10:55.30 we find that these three close friends 00:10:55.33\00:10:57.60 as well as the other disciples forsook Him. 00:10:57.63\00:11:01.08 In fact, it says in verse 50, 00:11:01.11\00:11:03.30 "Then they all forsook Him and fled." 00:11:03.33\00:11:08.58 It's interesting also to notice 00:11:08.61\00:11:10.52 that Job even though God said 00:11:10.55\00:11:12.38 that he was blameless and upright 00:11:12.41\00:11:14.59 and he feared God and he rejected evil. 00:11:14.62\00:11:18.17 He was accused by his enemies as being a great sinner. 00:11:18.20\00:11:22.11 Notice the words of Eliphaz to Job 22:4 and 5, 00:11:22.14\00:11:28.80 Job 22:4 and 5. 00:11:28.83\00:11:34.61 Here Eliphaz says to Job, 00:11:34.64\00:11:37.10 "Is it because of your fear of Him 00:11:37.13\00:11:39.93 that He reproves you, 00:11:39.96\00:11:41.48 and enters into judgment with you?" 00:11:41.51\00:11:44.00 In other words, is it really because you fear God 00:11:44.03\00:11:46.30 that all of these things are happening to you. 00:11:46.33\00:11:49.19 Notice verse 5, "Is not your wickedness great, 00:11:49.22\00:11:53.93 and your iniquity without end?" 00:11:53.96\00:11:57.83 In other words, it's not because you fear God, 00:11:57.86\00:12:00.37 it's because you are iniquitous that these things, 00:12:00.40\00:12:03.49 these calamites are falling upon you. 00:12:03.52\00:12:06.22 Do you know that this is the very accusation 00:12:06.25\00:12:08.74 that was made against Jesus 00:12:08.77\00:12:09.98 when He hung on the cross by His enemies? 00:12:10.01\00:12:12.07 They said if this man was of God, 00:12:12.10\00:12:14.56 he wouldn't be going through all of these sufferings 00:12:14.59\00:12:16.84 that he is going through now. 00:12:16.87\00:12:18.48 In fact, allow me to read you a passage 00:12:18.51\00:12:20.39 that we find in The Desire of Ages, 00:12:20.42\00:12:22.73 pages 60 and 61. 00:12:22.76\00:12:24.93 Once again, The Desire of Ages, pages 60 and 61, 00:12:24.96\00:12:28.26 this magnificent biography of Jesus written by Ellen White. 00:12:28.29\00:12:33.88 Notice what she says, 00:12:33.91\00:12:35.73 "Satanic agencies confederated with evil men 00:12:35.76\00:12:41.20 in leading the people to believe Christ the chief of sinners, 00:12:41.23\00:12:46.87 and to make Him the object of detestation." 00:12:46.90\00:12:51.46 Detestation means, somebody to be rejected, 00:12:51.49\00:12:54.87 somebody to be refused. 00:12:54.90\00:12:57.59 So notice, satanic agencies confederated with evil men 00:12:57.62\00:13:01.79 just like in the story of Job. 00:13:01.82\00:13:03.80 In leading the people to believe Christ the chief of sinners, 00:13:03.83\00:13:06.75 and to make Him the object of detestation. 00:13:06.78\00:13:10.09 She continues saying, "Those who mocked Christ 00:13:10.12\00:13:13.44 as He hung upon the cross 00:13:13.47\00:13:16.15 were imbued with the spirit of the first great rebel. 00:13:16.18\00:13:21.39 He filled them with vile and loathsome speeches. 00:13:21.42\00:13:25.48 He inspired their taunts. 00:13:25.51\00:13:27.78 So notice that the enemies, 00:13:27.81\00:13:29.62 the enemies of Jesus taunted Him, 00:13:29.65\00:13:33.44 the enemies of Jesus filled their, 00:13:33.47\00:13:35.94 their mouths with satanic arguments 00:13:35.97\00:13:38.73 just like happened with the friends of Job 00:13:38.76\00:13:40.82 and with the enemies of Job. 00:13:40.85\00:13:43.27 Another interesting parallel between Job and Jesus 00:13:43.30\00:13:46.51 is the fact that both of them were physically disfigured. 00:13:46.54\00:13:51.90 Notice for example, 00:13:51.93\00:13:53.00 the description that is given up in Job, 00:13:53.03\00:13:54.90 in Job 2:7 and 8, Job 2:7 and 8, 00:13:54.93\00:14:02.31 it says there, "So Satan went out 00:14:02.34\00:14:04.91 from the presence of the Lord, 00:14:04.94\00:14:06.99 and struck Job with painful boils 00:14:07.02\00:14:09.61 from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. 00:14:09.64\00:14:13.90 And he took for himself a potsherd, 00:14:13.93\00:14:15.97 that is a peace of pottery. 00:14:16.00\00:14:17.77 "With which to scrape himself 00:14:17.80\00:14:19.94 while he sat in the midst of the ashes." 00:14:19.97\00:14:23.65 Very interesting here, 00:14:23.68\00:14:25.16 that Job had to scratch himself with a potsherd 00:14:25.19\00:14:29.67 and we find a little bit later in the story 00:14:29.70\00:14:31.98 that when the three friends of Job come to visit him to- 00:14:32.01\00:14:35.58 to comfort him they actually don't recognize him 00:14:35.61\00:14:38.81 because he is so physically disfigured 00:14:38.84\00:14:41.81 according to the last couple of verses of Job Chapter2. 00:14:41.84\00:14:45.87 Now, what about Jesus? 00:14:45.90\00:14:47.76 Notice Isaiah 52:14 00:14:47.79\00:14:51.36 on the physical aspects of Jesus. 00:14:51.39\00:14:56.56 It says in Isaiah 52:14 00:14:56.59\00:15:00.78 "Just as many were astonished at you, 00:15:00.81\00:15:05.29 so His visage was marred more than any man." 00:15:05.32\00:15:10.51 Notice that the visage of Jesus was marred more than any man, 00:15:10.54\00:15:14.49 this is a messianic prophecy. 00:15:14.52\00:15:16.36 It says, "And His form more than the sons of men." 00:15:16.39\00:15:21.05 So this text indicates that Jesus was actually 00:15:21.08\00:15:25.60 disfigured in His sufferings in this earth. 00:15:25.63\00:15:29.89 Notice, Isaiah 53:2, 00:15:29.92\00:15:33.38 speaking once again about the Messiah, 00:15:33.41\00:15:35.55 "For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, 00:15:35.58\00:15:39.63 and as a root out of dry ground. 00:15:39.66\00:15:42.76 He has no form or comeliness, and when we see Him, 00:15:42.79\00:15:47.94 there is no beauty that we should desire Him." 00:15:47.97\00:15:51.57 So clearly the Book of Isaiah indicates 00:15:51.60\00:15:54.46 that the Messiah was not going to be physically attractive, 00:15:54.49\00:15:58.61 in fact in His sufferings He was going to be disfigured. 00:15:58.64\00:16:03.61 Another interesting parallel between Job and Jesus 00:16:03.64\00:16:06.72 is the fact that both of them were mocked by the multitudes, 00:16:06.75\00:16:11.86 they were mocked by the nations. 00:16:11.89\00:16:14.39 We notice first of all that the family forsook Job. 00:16:14.42\00:16:18.12 Then we notice also that his friends 00:16:18.15\00:16:20.25 forsook him and did not understand him 00:16:20.28\00:16:22.66 but also the surrounding nations, 00:16:22.69\00:16:24.98 the multitudes scorned Job. 00:16:25.01\00:16:28.07 Notice Chapter 16:9 through 11. 00:16:28.10\00:16:31.23 Job 16:9 through 11, He is speaking about 00:16:31.26\00:16:37.12 what he appears to think that God is doing to him. 00:16:37.15\00:16:41.60 "He tears me in His wrath, and hates me, 00:16:41.63\00:16:45.96 He gnashes at me with His teeth, 00:16:45.99\00:16:49.11 My adversary sharpens His gaze on me." 00:16:49.14\00:16:52.73 And then he goes to the plural, 00:16:52.76\00:16:54.58 "They gape at me with their mouth, 00:16:54.61\00:16:57.51 they strike me reproachfully on the cheek." 00:16:57.54\00:17:00.38 I want you to remember these things, 00:17:00.41\00:17:01.91 they gape at him with their mouth, 00:17:01.94\00:17:03.88 they strike him reproachfully on the cheek. 00:17:03.91\00:17:07.00 "They gather together against me." 00:17:07.03\00:17:10.29 God has delivered me to the ungodly, 00:17:10.32\00:17:13.68 and turned me over to the hands of the wicked. 00:17:13.71\00:17:18.31 You know the description which is given of Jesus 00:17:18.34\00:17:20.78 while He was on the cross is very similar. 00:17:20.81\00:17:23.27 Notice Matthew 27:28 to 31. 00:17:23.30\00:17:27.16 Matthew 27:28 to 31, 00:17:27.19\00:17:31.93 it says, "And they stripped Him 00:17:31.96\00:17:34.26 and put a scarlet robe on Him. 00:17:34.29\00:17:37.10 When they had twisted a crown of thorns, 00:17:37.13\00:17:39.16 they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. 00:17:39.19\00:17:43.49 And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him" 00:17:43.52\00:17:46.49 notice the idea of mockery with Jesus also 00:17:46.52\00:17:49.51 "and mocked Him saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!", 00:17:49.54\00:17:53.78 Then they spat on Him, 00:17:53.81\00:17:55.81 and took the reed and struck Him on the head." 00:17:55.84\00:17:59.07 We just read a few moments ago 00:17:59.10\00:18:00.65 that Job was struck on his face. 00:18:00.68\00:18:02.89 Verse 31, "And when they had mocked Him, 00:18:02.92\00:18:05.75 they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, 00:18:05.78\00:18:09.54 and led Him away to be crucified." 00:18:09.57\00:18:12.96 Another very interesting parallel 00:18:12.99\00:18:14.71 between Job and Jesus 00:18:14.74\00:18:16.59 is the fact that both of them were spit upon. 00:18:16.62\00:18:20.37 Notice Job 17:6, Job 17:6 00:18:20.40\00:18:27.18 it says there, "But He" speaking about God 00:18:27.21\00:18:31.09 what God he perceives God to be doing with him. 00:18:31.12\00:18:34.28 "But He has made me a byword of the people, 00:18:34.31\00:18:38.54 and I have become one in whose face men spit." 00:18:38.57\00:18:44.29 Notice also Job 30:9 to 13 the same idea 00:18:44.32\00:18:49.58 of the surrounding people spitting in his face. 00:18:49.61\00:18:52.74 Job 30 and beginning with verse 9, 00:18:52.77\00:18:56.13 And now, "I am their taunting song, 00:18:56.16\00:18:59.59 Yes, I am their byword. 00:18:59.62\00:19:02.63 They abhor me, they keep far from me, 00:19:02.66\00:19:06.59 they do not hesitate to spit in my face. 00:19:06.62\00:19:10.57 Because He has loosed my bowstring and afflicted me, 00:19:10.60\00:19:15.81 they have cast off restraint before me." 00:19:15.84\00:19:18.13 In other words, there is no restraint 00:19:18.16\00:19:19.47 for these people that are abusing Job. 00:19:19.50\00:19:22.35 Verse 12, "At my right hand the rabble arises, 00:19:22.38\00:19:25.60 they push away my feet, 00:19:25.63\00:19:27.55 and they raise against me their ways of destruction. 00:19:27.58\00:19:30.76 They break up my path, they promote my calamity, 00:19:30.79\00:19:34.43 they have no helper." 00:19:34.46\00:19:36.83 Now, notice what happened to Jesus 00:19:36.86\00:19:38.54 in Matthew 26:67 and 68. 00:19:38.57\00:19:43.24 Job 26, excuse me Matthew 26:67 and 68. 00:19:43.27\00:19:49.82 Very similar to the experience of Job, 00:19:49.85\00:19:52.95 it says there, "Then they spat in His face" 00:19:52.98\00:19:56.51 that is in the face of Jesus 00:19:56.54\00:19:58.18 "And beat Him and others struck Him, 00:19:58.21\00:20:02.00 we already read this about Job struck Him 00:20:02.03\00:20:04.05 with the palms of their hands, 00:20:04.08\00:20:05.78 saying, "Prophesy to us, Christ! 00:20:05.81\00:20:08.47 Who is the one who struck you?" 00:20:08.50\00:20:10.91 His crown and glory were torn away. 00:20:10.94\00:20:14.42 In fact, let's go to our next point. 00:20:14.45\00:20:16.87 Job 19:9 speaks about the glory of Jesus 00:20:16.90\00:20:21.46 being removed from Him and His crown 00:20:21.49\00:20:24.00 being removed from Him as happened with Job. 00:20:24.03\00:20:27.41 Let's read first of all about Job 00:20:27.44\00:20:29.47 and then we will read a statement about Jesus. 00:20:29.50\00:20:32.01 Job 19 and we'll read actually verse 9 through 11. 00:20:32.04\00:20:37.33 Speaking about God once again, 00:20:37.36\00:20:39.31 Job is perceiving that God is doing this to him. 00:20:39.34\00:20:42.21 "He has stripped me of my glory," 00:20:42.24\00:20:45.88 notice he is saying, God stripped me of my glory. 00:20:45.91\00:20:48.92 "And taken the crown from my head. 00:20:48.95\00:20:52.84 He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone, 00:20:52.87\00:20:56.56 my hope He has uprooted like a tree. 00:20:56.59\00:20:59.93 He has also kindled His wrath against me." 00:20:59.96\00:21:02.68 Notice that he is feeling the wrath of God against him. 00:21:02.71\00:21:05.79 "And He counts me as one of His enemies." 00:21:05.82\00:21:09.89 In a very interesting statement that we find 00:21:09.92\00:21:12.24 in the Desire of Ages, pages 22 and 23, 00:21:12.27\00:21:15.99 we find that Jesus also left aside His throne 00:21:16.02\00:21:20.06 and His glory to come to this world. 00:21:20.09\00:21:22.92 It says, there in Desire of Ages, 00:21:22.95\00:21:24.75 pages 22 and 23, speaking about Jesus, 00:21:24.78\00:21:28.84 "He might have retained the glory of heaven, 00:21:28.87\00:21:32.95 and the homage of the angels. 00:21:32.98\00:21:35.55 But He chose to give back the scepter" 00:21:35.58\00:21:39.69 that's what a king has the scepter into the hands- 00:21:39.72\00:21:44.29 of "into His Father's hands, 00:21:44.32\00:21:46.02 and to step down from the throne of the universe." 00:21:46.05\00:21:50.20 In other words, He set aside His glory 00:21:50.23\00:21:52.39 and He set aside His crown just as happened with the job. 00:21:52.42\00:21:57.39 Another interesting detail about Job 00:21:57.42\00:21:59.82 is it evidently after a period of suffering, 00:21:59.85\00:22:03.05 His body was- 00:22:03.08\00:22:05.53 actually his bones could be seen through his skin. 00:22:05.56\00:22:08.86 He was suffering so terribly. 00:22:08.89\00:22:10.97 Notice Job 19:20, Job 19:20 here Job says, 00:22:11.00\00:22:18.37 "My bone clings to my skin and to my flesh, 00:22:18.40\00:22:24.19 I have escaped by the skin of my teeth." 00:22:24.22\00:22:27.45 In other words, he just barely hanging on to life 00:22:27.48\00:22:30.11 according to this and all of his bones can be seen. 00:22:30.14\00:22:34.25 Notice the very interesting messianic prophecy 00:22:34.28\00:22:36.99 in Psalm 22:17, which is referring to Jesus. 00:22:37.02\00:22:41.93 The whole Psalm 22 is a reference to Christ. 00:22:41.96\00:22:44.94 Jesus is speaking here and He says, 00:22:44.97\00:22:47.64 "I can count all My bones." 00:22:47.67\00:22:51.09 See His bones could be seen through His flesh. 00:22:51.12\00:22:54.06 "They look at Me and stare at Me." 00:22:54.09\00:22:58.78 Now, another interesting parallel 00:22:58.81\00:23:00.06 between Job and Jesus is the fact 00:23:00.09\00:23:02.36 that both of them cried out to God for answers, 00:23:02.39\00:23:06.26 but in both cases God was silent 00:23:06.29\00:23:09.75 and God did not answer their pleas immediately. 00:23:09.78\00:23:14.08 Notice Job 16 and verses 12 and 13. 00:23:14.11\00:23:17.40 Job 16 and verses 12 and 13, 00:23:17.43\00:23:21.81 Job once again is describing his experience 00:23:21.84\00:23:24.54 and he can't understand of course what's happening, 00:23:24.57\00:23:28.05 he wonders why God has turned against him and he says this, 00:23:28.08\00:23:32.65 "I was at ease, but He has shattered me," 00:23:32.68\00:23:35.95 speaking about God, 00:23:35.98\00:23:37.72 "He also has taken me by my neck, 00:23:37.75\00:23:41.06 and shaken me to pieces, 00:23:41.09\00:23:43.09 He has set me up for His target. 00:23:43.12\00:23:47.22 His archers surround me. 00:23:47.25\00:23:49.59 He pierces my heart and does not pity, 00:23:49.62\00:23:52.97 He pours out my gall on the ground." 00:23:53.00\00:23:55.25 That's an important detail, 00:23:55.28\00:23:56.38 He pours out my gall on the ground. 00:23:56.41\00:23:58.52 You remember that gall was given to Jesus. 00:23:58.55\00:24:00.82 It says, you have become cruel to me and do not hear me. 00:24:00.85\00:24:06.30 So he is suffering this terribly cruel experience. 00:24:06.33\00:24:09.13 He is crying out to God 00:24:09.16\00:24:10.68 and God does not immediately answer his pleas. 00:24:10.71\00:24:13.86 It appears like even God has forsaken him. 00:24:13.89\00:24:16.88 Notice Job 30:20 and 21, 00:24:16.91\00:24:20.52 the same idea of Job crying out and God not answering Him. 00:24:20.55\00:24:25.31 It says, there in Job 30:20 00:24:25.34\00:24:28.02 "I cry out to You, but You do not answer me, 00:24:28.05\00:24:32.38 I stand up, and You regard me. 00:24:32.41\00:24:36.45 But you have become cruel to me, 00:24:36.48\00:24:40.16 with the strength of Your hand You oppose me." 00:24:40.19\00:24:44.66 Both Job and Jesus were men of sorrows 00:24:44.69\00:24:48.57 acquainted with grief. 00:24:48.60\00:24:50.52 In fact, notice Job 16:16 and 17 00:24:50.55\00:24:54.23 that Job actually shed an abundance of tears 00:24:54.26\00:24:58.24 as he was going through his sufferings, 00:24:58.27\00:25:00.40 he was a man of sorrow, he was filled with grief. 00:25:00.43\00:25:03.32 Notice Job 16:16 and 17, 00:25:03.35\00:25:07.88 Job says, "My face is flushed from weeping, 00:25:07.91\00:25:13.20 and on my eyelids is the shadow of death." 00:25:13.23\00:25:16.57 And then he says, 00:25:16.60\00:25:17.93 "Although no violence is in my hands, 00:25:17.96\00:25:20.94 and my prayer is pure." 00:25:20.97\00:25:23.75 In other words, this is not happening to me 00:25:23.78\00:25:25.48 because I'm a big sinner 00:25:25.51\00:25:27.24 because I deserve what is taking place, 00:25:27.27\00:25:29.68 there is no violence in my hands, 00:25:29.71\00:25:31.55 my prayer is pure 00:25:31.58\00:25:33.52 and my face is flushed with weeping and on my eyelids- 00:25:33.55\00:25:37.90 and my eyelids are the shadow of death. 00:25:37.93\00:25:41.09 Notice that Jesus went through the same experience, 00:25:41.12\00:25:43.52 Isaiah 53:3, Isaiah 53:3 00:25:43.55\00:25:49.22 Once again this is a messianic prophecy, 00:25:49.25\00:25:52.53 speaking about Jesus it says, 00:25:52.56\00:25:54.04 "He is despised and rejected by men, 00:25:54.07\00:25:57.80 a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief." 00:25:57.83\00:26:02.85 Notice the idea of sorrow and grief. 00:26:02.88\00:26:06.21 "And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; 00:26:06.24\00:26:09.41 He was despised, and we did not esteem Him." 00:26:09.44\00:26:15.11 We have already noticed that Job felt forsaken by God, 00:26:15.14\00:26:19.24 every earthly support was removed. 00:26:19.27\00:26:22.37 In other words 00:26:22.40\00:26:23.43 not only that Job lose all of his possessions, 00:26:23.46\00:26:26.30 he also for our practical purposes 00:26:26.33\00:26:28.78 lost the support of his family, 00:26:28.81\00:26:30.42 he lost the support of his friends, 00:26:30.45\00:26:32.34 he lost his physical health 00:26:32.37\00:26:34.66 and now it appeared that even God had forsaken him. 00:26:34.69\00:26:38.15 The same is true of Jesus when He hung on the cross 00:26:38.18\00:26:41.01 He had nothing in this world to lean upon. 00:26:41.04\00:26:44.33 Notice Job 31:35, Job 31:35, 00:26:44.36\00:26:50.85 Here Job wishes that there would be one in heaven 00:26:50.88\00:26:54.64 who would listen to him, he says this, 00:26:54.67\00:26:57.32 "Oh, that I had one to hear me! 00:26:57.35\00:27:00.55 Here is my mark. 00:27:00.58\00:27:01.93 Oh, that the Almighty would answer me, 00:27:01.96\00:27:05.79 that my Prosecutor had written a book!" 00:27:05.82\00:27:08.47 In other words, I wish that 00:27:08.50\00:27:10.33 God would answer me when I cry out. 00:27:10.36\00:27:13.06 Notice Psalm 69:20 and 21 00:27:13.09\00:27:16.26 it's speaking here about Jesus 00:27:16.29\00:27:18.14 and the fact that Jesus also had no one to listen to Him, 00:27:18.17\00:27:22.08 He had no one to answer His pleas. 00:27:22.11\00:27:24.58 It says there in Psalm 69:20, 00:27:24.61\00:27:28.26 "Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness, 00:27:28.29\00:27:34.76 I looked for someone to take pity, 00:27:34.79\00:27:37.97 but there was none, 00:27:38.00\00:27:40.64 and for comforters, but I found none. 00:27:40.67\00:27:44.77 They also gave me gall for my food." 00:27:44.80\00:27:47.35 Remember we noticed that in the story of Job. 00:27:47.38\00:27:49.72 "They gave me gall for my food 00:27:49.75\00:27:51.81 and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink." 00:27:51.84\00:27:56.17 Both of these men apparently were forsaken by everyone, 00:27:56.20\00:27:59.81 they lost everything 00:27:59.84\00:28:01.83 and it appeared that even God had turned against them. 00:28:01.86\00:28:05.60 Notice in the case of Jesus, Mathew 27:46, 00:28:05.63\00:28:09.77 the words that Jesus speaks to His Father 00:28:09.80\00:28:12.29 while He is hanging on the cross. 00:28:12.32\00:28:14.16 Mathew 27:46, 00:28:14.19\00:28:18.69 this is slightly before Jesus dies on the cross of Calvary. 00:28:18.72\00:28:24.21 It says there, "And about the ninth hour 00:28:24.24\00:28:26.80 Jesus cried out with a loud voice, 00:28:26.83\00:28:29.32 saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" 00:28:29.35\00:28:32.61 that is, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?" 00:28:32.64\00:28:38.59 You see Job and Jesus had basically the same prayer, 00:28:38.62\00:28:43.03 they felt forsaken by everyone including God Himself. 00:28:43.06\00:28:48.45 And they were going through suffering 00:28:48.48\00:28:50.45 without any apparent reason at all. 00:28:50.48\00:28:53.65 Notice Desire of Ages, page 753, Desire of Ages, 753 00:28:53.68\00:29:00.13 about these terrible sufferings of Jesus 00:29:00.16\00:29:02.48 where He actually sheds these tears and He suffers alone. 00:29:02.51\00:29:08.82 It says there, 00:29:08.85\00:29:09.96 "But now with the terrible weight of guilt He bears, 00:29:09.99\00:29:13.83 He cannot see the Father's reconciling face." 00:29:13.86\00:29:18.61 See Jesus could not see His Father's face. 00:29:18.64\00:29:21.52 "The withdrawal of the divine countenance 00:29:21.55\00:29:24.20 from the Savior in this hour of supreme anguish 00:29:24.23\00:29:28.96 pierced His heart with a sorrow 00:29:28.99\00:29:31.38 that can never be fully understood by man. 00:29:31.41\00:29:34.95 So great was this agony 00:29:34.98\00:29:37.59 that His physical pain was hardly felt." 00:29:37.62\00:29:41.29 You know, you read the story of Job, 00:29:41.32\00:29:43.26 you don't find Job complaining about his physical suffering, 00:29:43.29\00:29:46.21 you don't say oh, but you know, 00:29:46.24\00:29:48.41 I have this terrible disease. 00:29:48.44\00:29:50.73 You know, I have to scratch myself with the potsherd 00:29:50.76\00:29:52.96 and I'm bleeding and everything is so painful, 00:29:52.99\00:29:55.53 you never hear Job complaining about his physical pain 00:29:55.56\00:29:58.68 because his spiritual anguish is so great 00:29:58.71\00:30:01.29 because his friend apparently has turned against him. 00:30:01.32\00:30:04.53 His family all of his friends, 00:30:04.56\00:30:06.63 the multitudes have turned against him 00:30:06.66\00:30:08.77 and he can't understand why this is happening 00:30:08.80\00:30:10.92 and with Jesus the same transpired. 00:30:10.95\00:30:14.57 Notice another statement Desire of Ages, page 753, 00:30:14.60\00:30:18.43 same page different statement, 00:30:18.46\00:30:21.66 "Satan with his fierce temptations 00:30:21.69\00:30:25.14 wrung the heart of Jesus. 00:30:25.17\00:30:27.84 The Savior could not see through the portals of the tomb. 00:30:27.87\00:30:32.09 Hope did not present to Him His coming forth 00:30:32.12\00:30:34.95 from the grave a conqueror, 00:30:34.98\00:30:37.08 or tell Him of the Father's acceptance of the sacrifice. 00:30:37.11\00:30:41.52 He feared that sin was so offensive to God 00:30:41.55\00:30:46.72 that their separation was to be eternal." 00:30:46.75\00:30:51.02 And meanwhile Satan is saying to Jesus 00:30:51.05\00:30:53.75 and as he said to Job 00:30:53.78\00:30:55.63 it's because you are bearing all of these sins 00:30:55.66\00:30:58.45 that this is happening to you 00:30:58.48\00:31:00.24 and if you go forward with it, 00:31:00.27\00:31:02.15 you are going to be separated from your Father forever. 00:31:02.18\00:31:05.17 The difference is that Jesus was actually bearing the sins 00:31:05.20\00:31:10.04 of the whole world upon Himself. 00:31:10.07\00:31:11.96 And the devil was saying to Him, 00:31:11.99\00:31:13.62 it's because of those sins that you are suffering this 00:31:13.65\00:31:16.18 and you are never going to see your Father's face again. 00:31:16.21\00:31:18.72 In the story of Job, in the Old Testament 00:31:18.75\00:31:21.54 the devil also accused Job of being a great sinner 00:31:21.57\00:31:25.04 but Job said, you can look at my life 00:31:25.07\00:31:28.75 and in my life 00:31:28.78\00:31:30.04 I have consecrated myself totally to the Lord, 00:31:30.07\00:31:32.96 I fear Him and I reject evil and the devil whispers to Jesus. 00:31:32.99\00:31:38.93 You know, how can you trust a God that treats you this way. 00:31:38.96\00:31:42.95 If God really loved you, do you think 00:31:42.98\00:31:45.09 that God would leave you 00:31:45.12\00:31:46.30 suffering on the cross like this? 00:31:46.33\00:31:48.54 He says, sin is so great that you are gonna be 00:31:48.57\00:31:51.51 eternally separated from your Father. 00:31:51.54\00:31:55.35 Notice Job 13:23 and 24 how Job feels this anguish 00:31:55.38\00:32:01.99 because he looks for sins 00:32:02.02\00:32:03.45 and he can't find sins in his life 00:32:03.48\00:32:05.70 that would justify the experience 00:32:05.73\00:32:07.39 that he is going through. 00:32:07.42\00:32:08.53 Job 13:23 and 24, here Job says, 00:32:08.56\00:32:14.21 "How many are my iniquities and sins? 00:32:14.24\00:32:18.81 Make me know my transgression and my sin. 00:32:18.84\00:32:22.95 Why do You hide Your face, And regard me as Your enemy?" 00:32:22.98\00:32:28.86 In other words, he is saying showing me my sins. 00:32:28.89\00:32:30.89 In fact, at the beginning of the story of Job, 00:32:30.92\00:32:33.55 we find that God Himself said that Job was a man 00:32:33.58\00:32:36.72 who feared God, he rejected evil, 00:32:36.75\00:32:39.34 he was blameless and he was upright. 00:32:39.37\00:32:41.95 In other words, God Himself confessed 00:32:41.98\00:32:44.52 that Job was a righteous man 00:32:44.55\00:32:46.74 and yet Job says show me my inequities 00:32:46.77\00:32:49.36 which would justify what is happening to me now. 00:32:49.39\00:32:53.52 You know with Job as I mentioned with Jesus, 00:32:53.55\00:32:56.20 his physical sufferings were secondary 00:32:56.23\00:32:59.83 to his deep spiritual anguish. 00:32:59.86\00:33:02.53 In fact allow me to read you from Job 9:32 and 33 00:33:02.56\00:33:06.92 and then I'm gonna read you a passage from Desire of Ages. 00:33:06.95\00:33:09.82 Job 9:32 and 33, "For He is not a man, 00:33:09.85\00:33:15.49 as I am" Job is speaking about God. 00:33:15.52\00:33:17.96 "That I may answer Him, 00:33:17.99\00:33:19.94 and that we should go to court together. 00:33:19.97\00:33:22.92 Nor is there" now notice this, 00:33:22.95\00:33:25.98 "any mediator between us, 00:33:26.01\00:33:29.41 who may lay his hand on us both." 00:33:29.44\00:33:33.48 In other words, Job here is pleading for a mediator. 00:33:33.51\00:33:37.39 He wants somebody to stand between Him and God 00:33:37.42\00:33:41.83 and yet there is no one 00:33:41.86\00:33:43.49 that mediates between God and himself. 00:33:43.52\00:33:47.31 Notice Desire of Ages, page 686, speaking about Jesus, 00:33:47.34\00:33:52.45 it says, "As the substitute and surety for sinful man, 00:33:52.48\00:33:57.07 Christ was suffering under divine justice. 00:33:57.10\00:34:01.74 He saw what justice meant. 00:34:01.77\00:34:05.01 Hitherto He had been as an intercessor for others, 00:34:05.04\00:34:09.40 now He longed to have an intercessor for Himself." 00:34:09.43\00:34:14.62 So just like Job, Jesus longed to have 00:34:14.65\00:34:17.29 an intercessor with His Father 00:34:17.32\00:34:19.18 because He knew that if He can present His case 00:34:19.21\00:34:21.06 before His Father, 00:34:21.09\00:34:22.32 His Father would see things as He did 00:34:22.35\00:34:25.28 and yet the answer of God was silence. 00:34:25.31\00:34:29.72 Now, you remember in our first study 00:34:29.75\00:34:31.70 that Job had these moments 00:34:31.73\00:34:33.65 where he was deep in the valley 00:34:33.68\00:34:35.63 and then he would come up to the mountain top. 00:34:35.66\00:34:38.30 In other words, his faith would rise and he would say, 00:34:38.33\00:34:41.37 I know that my redeemer lives, 00:34:41.40\00:34:43.74 I know that at the end of days God is going to resurrect me 00:34:43.77\00:34:47.82 and in this flesh of mind I'm going to see God. 00:34:47.85\00:34:50.91 The fact is Job 13:15, 00:34:50.94\00:34:54.02 Job in one of his higher moments says, 00:34:54.05\00:34:56.57 "Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. 00:34:56.60\00:35:01.02 Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him." 00:35:01.05\00:35:05.78 Do you know, Jesus had the same experience? 00:35:05.81\00:35:08.31 Immediately after Jesus said, 00:35:08.34\00:35:11.22 "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" 00:35:11.25\00:35:15.33 The next very words that He spoke 00:35:15.36\00:35:17.77 expressed faith and confidence in His Father. 00:35:17.80\00:35:21.73 In one breath He is crying out to His Father, 00:35:21.76\00:35:23.92 Father I feel that You have forsaken Me. 00:35:23.95\00:35:26.31 But in the next breath He says, "Father, 00:35:26.34\00:35:29.94 into your hands I commend my spirit." 00:35:29.97\00:35:33.37 That's Luke 23:46, "Into your hands I commend my spirit." 00:35:33.40\00:35:39.04 And having said this he breath his last. 00:35:39.07\00:35:42.99 In other words, Jesus and Job 00:35:43.02\00:35:44.83 even though they were going through this intense experience 00:35:44.86\00:35:47.53 refused to let go of the hand of God. 00:35:47.56\00:35:51.78 through 6, 00:35:51.81\00:35:56.84 Job 27:4 through 6. 00:35:56.87\00:35:59.87 Here we find that Job refuses to release the hand of God 00:35:59.90\00:36:04.19 even though the devil is telling him, 00:36:04.22\00:36:05.83 it's because of all of your sins that this is happening to you. 00:36:05.86\00:36:08.93 How can you trust the God that does this to you? 00:36:08.96\00:36:11.29 How can you love a God 00:36:11.32\00:36:12.51 that allows you to suffer in this way? 00:36:12.54\00:36:14.74 And the devil is trying to break his confidence in God. 00:36:14.77\00:36:17.85 Job hangs on for dear life to his relationship with God. 00:36:17.88\00:36:21.99 Notice Job 27:4, 00:36:22.02\00:36:25.43 Job says, "My lips will not speak wickedness, 00:36:25.46\00:36:29.10 nor my tongue utter deceit. 00:36:29.13\00:36:32.15 Far be it from me that I should say you are right, 00:36:32.18\00:36:36.50 Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me." 00:36:36.53\00:36:41.91 Notice, he says, till I die 00:36:41.94\00:36:43.21 I will not put away my integrity from me. 00:36:43.24\00:36:46.07 "My righteousness I hold fast, 00:36:46.10\00:36:48.58 and I will not let it go, 00:36:48.61\00:36:50.70 My heart shall not reproach me 00:36:50.73\00:36:53.06 as long as I live." 00:36:53.09\00:36:55.90 You know, Job realize that his experience 00:36:55.93\00:36:58.26 was actually a refining experience 00:36:58.29\00:37:01.41 that was going to benefit him in his future life. 00:37:01.44\00:37:05.61 Notice Job 23:8 through 10, Job 23:8 through 10. 00:37:05.64\00:37:12.57 Here Job understands that the experience 00:37:12.60\00:37:14.75 that he is going through is a refining experience 00:37:14.78\00:37:17.75 that is actually gonna make his character 00:37:17.78\00:37:19.91 come forth from the furnace as pure gold. 00:37:19.94\00:37:23.00 He says there, "Look, I go forward, 00:37:23.03\00:37:27.07 but He is not there, and backward, 00:37:27.10\00:37:30.28 but I cannot perceive Him." 00:37:30.31\00:37:31.41 See I can't find God anywhere. 00:37:31.44\00:37:34.10 Verse 9 "When He works on the left hand, 00:37:34.13\00:37:37.51 I cannot behold Him, 00:37:37.54\00:37:39.10 When He turns to the right hand, 00:37:39.13\00:37:40.84 I cannot see Him." 00:37:40.87\00:37:42.67 But then notice verse 10, 00:37:42.70\00:37:44.27 "But He knows the way that I take, 00:37:44.30\00:37:46.90 when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." 00:37:46.93\00:37:52.63 I know that this is a good experience 00:37:52.66\00:37:55.03 for the refinement of my character. 00:37:55.06\00:37:57.65 By the way, do you know 00:37:57.68\00:37:59.30 that Jesus also went through suffering 00:37:59.33\00:38:01.95 to prepare His character 00:38:01.98\00:38:04.68 so that He could serve as our mediator in the heavenly courts. 00:38:04.71\00:38:08.87 It was also a refining experience for Christ. 00:38:08.90\00:38:12.47 Notice Hebrews 5:7 through 10, Hebrews 5:7 to 10, 00:38:12.50\00:38:20.31 it's speaking about the sufferings of Jesus 00:38:20.34\00:38:22.55 and it says, "Who, in the days of His flesh" 00:38:22.58\00:38:26.41 that is while He was on this earth, 00:38:26.44\00:38:29.23 "when He had offered up prayers 00:38:29.26\00:38:31.60 and supplications, with vehement cries and tears, 00:38:31.63\00:38:38.12 " see the experience of Job there 00:38:38.15\00:38:39.60 "and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, 00:38:39.63\00:38:44.73 was heard because of His godly fear, 00:38:44.76\00:38:48.35 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience 00:38:48.38\00:38:52.82 by the things which He suffered." 00:38:52.85\00:38:54.12 Doesn't mean that Jesus was disobedient, 00:38:54.15\00:38:55.92 it means that He grew ever more in obedience. 00:38:55.95\00:39:00.28 And so it says, "Though He was a Son, 00:39:00.31\00:39:02.91 yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered 00:39:02.94\00:39:06.63 and having been perfected" that means refined, 00:39:06.66\00:39:10.03 having his character been set 00:39:10.06\00:39:12.26 once and for all, 00:39:12.29\00:39:13.80 "He became the author of eternal salvation 00:39:13.83\00:39:17.42 to all who obey Him." 00:39:17.45\00:39:21.15 Now, it's interesting also to notice 00:39:21.18\00:39:23.01 that Job seeks for sin in his life 00:39:23.04\00:39:25.46 and he cannot find any sin in his life. 00:39:25.49\00:39:28.74 and 6, Job 31:5 and 6, 00:39:28.77\00:39:35.65 here Job says, 00:39:35.68\00:39:37.52 "If I have walked with falsehood, 00:39:37.55\00:39:39.95 or if my foot has hastened to deceit, 00:39:39.98\00:39:43.47 let me be weighed on honest scales, 00:39:43.50\00:39:46.91 That God may know my integrity." 00:39:46.94\00:39:50.87 In other words, he says, 00:39:50.90\00:39:51.93 I'm willing to have God weigh me on His scales 00:39:51.96\00:39:54.66 and He is going to see that I have integrity, 00:39:54.69\00:39:58.15 that there is no sin in my life 00:39:58.18\00:40:00.56 which would bring this about that I'm suffering. 00:40:00.59\00:40:04.54 By the way, in Desire of Ages, page 761, 00:40:04.57\00:40:08.41 we find that Jesus as He hung on the cross was also sinless. 00:40:08.44\00:40:12.97 Notice Desire of Ages, page 761, 00:40:13.00\00:40:16.18 of course He was sinless in His own character 00:40:16.21\00:40:18.15 but He was bearing the sins of the world. 00:40:18.18\00:40:21.78 Ellen White says this, 00:40:21.81\00:40:23.63 "Could one sin have been found in Christ, 00:40:23.66\00:40:28.76 had He in one particular yielded to Satan 00:40:28.79\00:40:32.48 to escape the terrible torture, 00:40:32.51\00:40:35.15 the enemy of God and man would have triumphed. 00:40:35.18\00:40:40.12 Christ bowed His head and died, 00:40:40.15\00:40:42.65 but He held fast His faith and His submission to God." 00:40:42.68\00:40:47.26 Not one sin could be found in Jesus 00:40:47.29\00:40:51.06 other than the sins that He was bearing for the world. 00:40:51.09\00:40:57.01 In other words, both Job and Jesus 00:40:57.04\00:40:59.03 lost every earthly support. 00:40:59.06\00:41:02.65 The devil tried to shake their confidence 00:41:02.68\00:41:05.02 and their relationship with God the Father 00:41:05.05\00:41:07.52 but the devil could not do it with Job 00:41:07.55\00:41:11.03 and the devil could not do it with Jesus. 00:41:11.06\00:41:14.30 By the way, do you know that in the experience of Job 00:41:14.33\00:41:17.11 the wile character of Satan was revealed 00:41:17.14\00:41:19.66 before the whole universe? 00:41:19.69\00:41:21.82 We noticed in Job Chapter 1 and Job Chapter 2 00:41:21.85\00:41:24.24 that this experience is taking place 00:41:24.27\00:41:26.36 in the presence of the heavenly council. 00:41:26.39\00:41:28.74 In other words God is saying to the heavenly council, 00:41:28.77\00:41:31.37 look at Job 00:41:31.40\00:41:32.99 and he is saying to the devil take everything he has, 00:41:33.02\00:41:35.79 take his health only don't kill him. 00:41:35.82\00:41:38.74 And you will notice that he is gonna continue serving me 00:41:38.77\00:41:41.55 because he loves me even if calamities come. 00:41:41.58\00:41:45.37 God the Father said the same about Jesus 00:41:45.40\00:41:47.76 before the heavenly beings. 00:41:47.79\00:41:49.26 I'm gonna send Him to the world. 00:41:49.29\00:41:51.34 You can do your utmost to tempt Him, 00:41:51.37\00:41:53.73 you can do your utmost to make Him suffer, 00:41:53.76\00:41:55.94 you can take everything from Him 00:41:55.97\00:41:58.01 and you will see that He will be faithful to Me. 00:41:58.04\00:42:01.25 In fact, allow me to read you a very significant passage, 00:42:01.28\00:42:04.40 Desire of Ages, page 761, about the sufferings of Jesus. 00:42:04.43\00:42:09.30 Desire of Ages, page 761, 00:42:09.33\00:42:14.15 speaking about the death of Jesus on the cross 00:42:14.18\00:42:17.15 and the way that the devil made Him suffer, 00:42:17.18\00:42:19.55 "Satan saw that his disguise was torn away. 00:42:19.58\00:42:25.25 His administration was laid open before the unfallen angels 00:42:25.28\00:42:30.90 and before the heavenly universe. 00:42:30.93\00:42:33.82 He had revealed himself as a murderer. 00:42:33.85\00:42:36.96 By shedding the blood of the Son of God, 00:42:36.99\00:42:39.05 he had uprooted himself 00:42:39.08\00:42:41.25 from the sympathies of the heavenly beings. 00:42:41.28\00:42:44.31 Henceforth his work was restricted. 00:42:44.34\00:42:47.70 Whatever attitude he might assume, 00:42:47.73\00:42:49.89 he could no longer await the angels 00:42:49.92\00:42:52.39 as they came from the heavenly courts, 00:42:52.42\00:42:54.85 and before them accuse Christ's brethren 00:42:54.88\00:42:57.41 of being clothed with the garments of blackness 00:42:57.44\00:42:59.79 and the defilement of sin. 00:42:59.82\00:43:01.95 The last link of sympathy between Satan 00:43:01.98\00:43:06.86 and the heavenly world was broken." 00:43:06.89\00:43:10.73 In other words, the story of Job was given in the Old Testament 00:43:10.76\00:43:13.44 to show the heavenly intelligences 00:43:13.47\00:43:15.67 what was going to happen 00:43:15.70\00:43:17.18 when Jesus would come to this world. 00:43:17.21\00:43:19.42 In fact, I have no doubt whatsoever 00:43:19.45\00:43:22.30 that as Jesus was going through His experience, 00:43:22.33\00:43:25.30 the people in heaven, the being in heaven 00:43:25.33\00:43:28.63 were remembering the experience of Job 00:43:28.66\00:43:30.85 and they were saying, this experience of Jesus 00:43:30.88\00:43:33.79 is taking place on a much larger scale 00:43:33.82\00:43:36.98 than the experience of Job. 00:43:37.01\00:43:38.71 The experience of Job in other words, 00:43:38.74\00:43:40.69 illustrated the experience through which Jesus went. 00:43:40.72\00:43:46.05 Now, there are two senses 00:43:46.08\00:43:47.19 in which Jesus exceeded the experience of Job. 00:43:47.22\00:43:51.93 You remember that I mentioned 00:43:51.96\00:43:52.99 that we're dealing with typology here. 00:43:53.02\00:43:55.29 Job is the type and Jesus is the anti type. 00:43:55.32\00:43:58.28 Job is the shadow and Jesus is the substance or the reality. 00:43:58.31\00:44:02.32 You know, the shadow is never identical to the substance. 00:44:02.35\00:44:06.80 In other words, the type is never as great as the anti type. 00:44:06.83\00:44:10.22 In other words, Job is a small scale model 00:44:10.25\00:44:13.05 of the experience that Jesus would go through. 00:44:13.08\00:44:16.07 There are two senses in which Jesus exceeded Job. 00:44:16.10\00:44:19.99 First of all Job was not allowed to die. 00:44:20.02\00:44:26.25 Jesus did die. 00:44:26.28\00:44:28.29 And secondly, Job was not bearing upon himself 00:44:28.32\00:44:32.99 the sins of the world. 00:44:33.02\00:44:34.37 In other words, Job was innocent and yet He was suffering. 00:44:34.40\00:44:38.23 Jesus was innocent but He was bearing upon Himself 00:44:38.26\00:44:42.05 the sins of the whole world 00:44:42.08\00:44:44.12 and that is what lead to the sufferings of Jesus. 00:44:44.15\00:44:48.41 So in other words, Jesus was far greater than Job, 00:44:48.44\00:44:51.20 His sufferings were greater because He was bearing sin. 00:44:51.23\00:44:54.74 The devil hated Jesus all the more than He hated Job. 00:44:54.77\00:44:59.38 Now, what was the secret of the victory of Jesus 00:44:59.41\00:45:03.42 in His trials here on earth? 00:45:03.45\00:45:06.36 Well, it was the same secret that Job had when he overcame 00:45:06.39\00:45:12.33 the devil as the devil came 00:45:12.36\00:45:14.45 and put him through all of the suffering. 00:45:14.48\00:45:17.69 You know, Job was close to God in times of prosperity. 00:45:17.72\00:45:22.46 We noticed in our study last time 00:45:22.49\00:45:24.70 that Job kept his integrity when things went well. 00:45:24.73\00:45:29.71 He was a family man. 00:45:29.74\00:45:31.46 He offered the sacrifices for each of his children 00:45:31.49\00:45:34.59 on a regular basis, daily the Bible says. 00:45:34.62\00:45:37.88 In fact Job himself says in times of prosperity 00:45:37.91\00:45:41.06 I was clothing to the naked, I was eyes to the blind, 00:45:41.09\00:45:44.77 I was a blessing of giving necessary things to the poor. 00:45:44.80\00:45:48.78 In other words, I used all of my riches to benefit humanity. 00:45:48.81\00:45:52.76 We noticed that in our last study. 00:45:52.79\00:45:55.06 In other words, Job had a very strong relationship 00:45:55.09\00:45:59.13 with God in times of prosperity 00:45:59.16\00:46:02.16 and because he had this strong grasp on God 00:46:02.19\00:46:05.48 in times of prosperity 00:46:05.51\00:46:07.22 when times of adversity and difficulty came, 00:46:07.25\00:46:10.59 he could lean on the experience 00:46:10.62\00:46:12.87 which he had developed previously with God. 00:46:12.90\00:46:16.67 I want to read you a passage in Desire of Ages, page 756, 00:46:16.70\00:46:21.20 where Ellen White describes the secret 00:46:21.23\00:46:25.09 of the victory of Jesus. 00:46:25.12\00:46:27.47 Once again, the Desire of Ages, page 756, 00:46:27.50\00:46:33.83 speaking about Jesus as He hangs on the cross. 00:46:33.86\00:46:36.49 "Amid the awful darkness, apparently forsaken of God, 00:46:36.52\00:46:42.12 " not really forsaken of God because Job wasn't forsaken 00:46:42.15\00:46:44.61 of God either, it just appeared that way. 00:46:44.64\00:46:47.02 "Amid the awful darkness, apparently forsaken of God, 00:46:47.05\00:46:51.75 Christ had drained the last dregs 00:46:51.78\00:46:54.52 in the cup of human woe. 00:46:54.55\00:46:57.34 In those dreadful hours He had relied, 00:46:57.37\00:47:00.22 " notice this "In those dreadful hours 00:47:00.25\00:47:02.83 He had relied upon the evidence of His Father's acceptance 00:47:02.86\00:47:07.44 heretofore given Him." 00:47:07.47\00:47:09.48 In other words, the evidences of His Father's presence 00:47:09.51\00:47:12.22 up till this point in His previous experience, 00:47:12.25\00:47:16.13 she continues saying, "He was acquainted 00:47:16.16\00:47:19.13 with the character of His Father, 00:47:19.16\00:47:22.12 He understood His justice, 00:47:22.15\00:47:24.64 His mercy, and His great love. 00:47:24.67\00:47:28.16 By faith He rested in Him 00:47:28.19\00:47:31.86 whom it had ever been His joy to obey." 00:47:31.89\00:47:37.85 You will see that His past experience colored 00:47:37.88\00:47:41.11 the sufferings that He went through, 00:47:41.14\00:47:43.13 once again by faith He rested in Him, 00:47:43.16\00:47:45.97 whom it had ever been His joy to obey, 00:47:46.00\00:47:49.48 "And as in submission He committed Himself to God, 00:47:49.51\00:47:54.26 the sense of the loss of His Father's favor was withdrawn. 00:47:54.29\00:47:59.66 By faith, Christ was the victor." 00:47:59.69\00:48:03.65 Now, do you remember in the experience of Job 00:48:03.68\00:48:05.99 that after He went through these terrible trials 00:48:06.02\00:48:08.70 and tribulations that at the end of the book appears 00:48:08.73\00:48:13.77 the individual who caused all of the sufferings of Job. 00:48:13.80\00:48:18.30 At the beginning of the book, His enemy is called Satan. 00:48:18.33\00:48:23.14 At the end of the book, Satan is no longer referred 00:48:23.17\00:48:27.07 to with that name. 00:48:27.10\00:48:28.52 He is called what? He is called Leviathan. 00:48:28.55\00:48:32.89 And God asked Job, He says, Job, 00:48:32.92\00:48:35.12 are you able to fish Leviathan out of the sea 00:48:35.15\00:48:39.01 and to cut him in pieces or to take him as your servant. 00:48:39.04\00:48:42.72 Of course, Job would have understood immediately 00:48:42.75\00:48:45.11 when God spoke of Leviathan that this was the enemy of God. 00:48:45.14\00:48:49.56 Because in that cultural context, 00:48:49.59\00:48:52.04 it's been discovered archeologically 00:48:52.07\00:48:54.18 that there was a creature called Leviathan or Lothan 00:48:54.21\00:48:58.83 who had several heads who was considered 00:48:58.86\00:49:01.08 to be the enemy of the God. 00:49:01.11\00:49:03.13 And so suddenly it dawns on Job he says, 00:49:03.16\00:49:06.21 oh, it's Leviathan who is doing this to me. 00:49:06.24\00:49:10.02 And then after God shows Him this portrait of Leviathan. 00:49:10.05\00:49:14.48 Job says, now, I know that you can do all things. 00:49:14.51\00:49:19.48 You can even defeat Leviathan. 00:49:19.51\00:49:22.38 You can even defeat the devil. 00:49:22.41\00:49:25.67 By the way do you know, that we were told in scripture 00:49:25.70\00:49:28.72 that Jesus is going to defeat Leviathan. 00:49:28.75\00:49:33.03 He is going to defeat the devil and destroy Him. 00:49:33.06\00:49:36.98 Notice in the Book of Revelation if you go with me to Revelation, 00:49:37.01\00:49:41.48 let's read first of all in Chapter 12. 00:49:41.51\00:49:43.89 Revelation 12 and we are going to read 00:49:43.92\00:49:47.40 about this multi headed creature. 00:49:47.43\00:49:50.67 Revelation 12 and notice verse 9, 00:49:50.70\00:49:56.35 it says, "So the great dragon was cast out, 00:49:56.38\00:50:00.07 that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, 00:50:00.10\00:50:04.37 who deceives the whole world he was cast to the earth, 00:50:04.40\00:50:08.10 and his angels were cast out with him." 00:50:08.13\00:50:10.58 Now, this casting out that is spoken off here 00:50:10.61\00:50:13.13 is the fact that the devil before Jesus died on the cross 00:50:13.16\00:50:17.32 could go to the heavenly couch representing this world. 00:50:17.35\00:50:20.37 But after Jesus died on the cross, 00:50:20.40\00:50:23.59 he was cast out of heaven 00:50:23.62\00:50:25.88 as the representative of this world. 00:50:25.91\00:50:28.51 Now, notice the names that he is given. 00:50:28.54\00:50:30.59 He is called the great dragon. 00:50:30.62\00:50:33.29 He is called the serpent of old, and he is called Satan. 00:50:33.32\00:50:38.17 You know, it's very interesting, 00:50:38.20\00:50:39.29 we noticed in our last study in Isaiah 27, 00:50:39.32\00:50:42.87 the Leviathan is called the dragon 00:50:42.90\00:50:46.50 and he is called the serpent. 00:50:46.53\00:50:50.02 So you put it together, the dragon, Leviathan, 00:50:50.05\00:50:54.43 the serpent, Satan mentioned in the Book of Job 00:50:54.46\00:50:59.55 make reference to Satan, 00:50:59.58\00:51:02.63 the enemy of Job and the enemy of God. 00:51:02.66\00:51:05.90 Now, the question is, what is gonna be the end 00:51:05.93\00:51:09.11 of this being who is called the devil, Satan, 00:51:09.14\00:51:14.39 the dragon and the serpent? 00:51:14.42\00:51:17.00 Notice, Revelation 20:7 and following, 00:51:17.03\00:51:23.67 and following. 00:51:23.70\00:51:27.34 "Now when the thousand years have expired, 00:51:27.37\00:51:30.27 Satan will be released from his prison 00:51:30.30\00:51:32.79 and will go out to deceive the nations 00:51:32.82\00:51:34.74 which are in the four corners of the earth, 00:51:34.77\00:51:36.55 Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, 00:51:36.58\00:51:39.72 whose number is as the sand of the sea. 00:51:39.75\00:51:42.40 They went up on the breadth of the earth 00:51:42.43\00:51:44.04 and surrounded the camp of the saints 00:51:44.07\00:51:46.34 and the beloved city. 00:51:46.37\00:51:48.54 And fire came down from God 00:51:48.57\00:51:50.51 out of heaven and what, and devoured them." 00:51:50.54\00:51:54.77 In other words, Satan, his angels 00:51:54.80\00:51:58.17 and all of the wicked people who oppressed Jesus 00:51:58.20\00:52:02.37 and the devil who oppressed Job 00:52:02.40\00:52:04.88 eventually is going to be destroyed by the Lord Himself, 00:52:04.91\00:52:09.65 just like He prophesied in Job Chapter 41. 00:52:09.68\00:52:13.76 And then you remember in the story of Job, 00:52:13.79\00:52:16.42 that Job received a double amount of the blessings 00:52:16.45\00:52:21.67 that he had enjoyed before his trials. 00:52:21.70\00:52:24.62 And of course, the Book of Revelation says that 00:52:24.65\00:52:26.99 God is gonna make a new heavens and a new earth 00:52:27.02\00:52:29.89 and those who have been oppressed by the devil, 00:52:29.92\00:52:32.03 Jesus Himself who went through these savior trials 00:52:32.06\00:52:35.13 is gonna sit on the throne of God 00:52:35.16\00:52:37.51 and He is gonna reign on this earth forever 00:52:37.54\00:52:40.91 and ever among His people. 00:52:40.94\00:52:43.23 And so the story of job will have reached 00:52:43.26\00:52:45.94 its fullest fulfillment at the end of the millennium. 00:52:45.97\00:52:50.81 Now, there is one further dimension of the Book of Job 00:52:50.84\00:52:53.16 which I'm going to mention only in passing 00:52:53.19\00:52:55.91 and that is that the experience of Job also is an illustration 00:52:55.94\00:53:00.23 of what's gonna happen to God's people 00:53:00.26\00:53:02.62 during the great final tribulation 00:53:02.65\00:53:05.80 in the history of this world. 00:53:05.83\00:53:07.56 There are many texts in the Bible, 00:53:07.59\00:53:09.00 I'll only mention the concept 00:53:09.03\00:53:11.01 perhaps those who are watching this now, 00:53:11.04\00:53:13.15 will be encouraged to go to scripture 00:53:13.18\00:53:15.70 and look for the final fulfillment 00:53:15.73\00:53:17.80 of this story of Job. 00:53:17.83\00:53:19.37 But the Bible tells us, that in the end time 00:53:19.40\00:53:22.59 God's people are going to lose the support of their family. 00:53:22.62\00:53:27.70 They are gonna lose the support of their friends. 00:53:27.73\00:53:29.88 You can read it there in Matthew 24 in Mark 13, 00:53:29.91\00:53:33.69 in Luke 21, they are gonna lose the support of friends. 00:53:33.72\00:53:36.81 The nations are going to arise against them. 00:53:36.84\00:53:41.14 And they are going to go through a severe time of tribulation 00:53:41.17\00:53:43.90 such as the world has never seen. 00:53:43.93\00:53:45.95 They are gonna lose everything that they have. 00:53:45.98\00:53:48.83 They are gonna lose houses, they are gonna lose automobiles, 00:53:48.86\00:53:51.80 they are gonna lose the money in the bank, 00:53:51.83\00:53:53.67 they are going to lose every single 00:53:53.70\00:53:55.65 earthly support on planet earth. 00:53:55.68\00:53:59.82 And when they go through the severe time of trouble 00:53:59.85\00:54:01.81 it's going to even appear 00:54:01.84\00:54:03.21 that God has forsaken them on this earth. 00:54:03.24\00:54:06.22 In fact, the story of the widow in Luke Chapter 18 00:54:06.25\00:54:09.55 where it says that this widow kept on coming 00:54:09.58\00:54:11.59 and coming and coming to the judge, 00:54:11.62\00:54:13.91 so that the judge would do justice against her advisory. 00:54:13.94\00:54:17.34 The advisory of course here is the devil 00:54:17.37\00:54:19.47 and finally the judge says, I'm going to do justice to her. 00:54:19.50\00:54:23.05 The same is going to happen during the time of trouble. 00:54:23.08\00:54:25.54 God's people will cry out day and night, 00:54:25.57\00:54:28.29 they will plead with the Lord to deliver them 00:54:28.32\00:54:30.97 from the hands of their enemies 00:54:31.00\00:54:33.10 who are being used by the devil 00:54:33.13\00:54:34.95 to persecute God's people. 00:54:34.98\00:54:37.67 And yet for a while at least, 00:54:37.70\00:54:40.55 God will keep His silence, 00:54:40.58\00:54:43.24 but just like in the Book of Job where God after Chapter 37 00:54:43.27\00:54:48.74 now is revealed in a great theophany. 00:54:48.77\00:54:51.07 In other words, He is revealed in creation at the end of time. 00:54:51.10\00:54:54.62 God is going to be revealed 00:54:54.65\00:54:56.00 in the midst of great scenes of nature. 00:54:56.03\00:54:58.27 He is gonna speak to His people 00:54:58.30\00:55:00.11 and He is gonna invite His people 00:55:00.14\00:55:01.88 to inherit the kingdom which was lost by Adam. 00:55:01.91\00:55:06.53 In other words, God's people are going to go through 00:55:06.56\00:55:08.19 the same experience that Job went through. 00:55:08.22\00:55:10.87 They are going to suffer 00:55:10.90\00:55:12.04 the same sufferings that He suffered. 00:55:12.07\00:55:13.57 They are gonna feel like God has forsaken them, 00:55:13.60\00:55:16.00 but God will not have forsaken them. 00:55:16.03\00:55:18.77 God will be as close as ever, 00:55:18.80\00:55:21.23 even if they do not feel Him. 00:55:21.26\00:55:24.39 Now, what can we learn from the story of Job. 00:55:24.42\00:55:28.44 We can learn the fact that Job was faithful to God 00:55:28.47\00:55:32.37 in these severe trials because He knew God 00:55:32.40\00:55:35.42 from the prosperous times. 00:55:35.45\00:55:37.57 In other words, he had a connection with God 00:55:37.60\00:55:39.74 when things went well. 00:55:39.77\00:55:42.65 Now these days we don't have persecution. 00:55:42.68\00:55:45.60 We have many material possessions. 00:55:45.63\00:55:49.08 We have every thing that the heart could desire, 00:55:49.11\00:55:51.97 but are we developing that relationship with God 00:55:52.00\00:55:54.92 in these times of prosperity, 00:55:54.95\00:55:56.82 because times of adversity are coming 00:55:56.85\00:55:58.87 where we are gonna lose every earthly support. 00:55:58.90\00:56:01.81 Are we so connected with God 00:56:01.84\00:56:04.90 that no matter if we lost everything 00:56:04.93\00:56:07.33 if we lost family, spouses, friends, 00:56:07.36\00:56:12.78 if the whole world turned against God's people, 00:56:12.81\00:56:15.79 if we lost all of our possessions, 00:56:15.82\00:56:17.94 if we lost our health. 00:56:17.97\00:56:19.53 If it appear like we were gonna lose our life. 00:56:19.56\00:56:22.20 Would our relationship with God be so strong 00:56:22.23\00:56:25.81 that we would say like Job, 00:56:25.84\00:56:27.49 "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him." 00:56:27.52\00:56:31.50 That is the kind of faith 00:56:31.53\00:56:33.14 that we are going to have to develop in the end time. 00:56:33.17\00:56:36.85 In fact I'd like to end by reading a text 00:56:36.88\00:56:39.47 that we find in Revelation 13, 00:56:39.50\00:56:43.97 Revelation 13 here it says in verse 9, 00:56:44.00\00:56:51.24 "If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 00:56:51.27\00:56:55.08 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity, 00:56:55.11\00:56:58.28 he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword." 00:56:58.31\00:57:01.35 And then it says, "Here is the patience 00:57:01.38\00:57:04.19 and the faith of the saints." 00:57:04.22\00:57:06.72 Notice Revelation 14:12, 00:57:06.75\00:57:10.23 "Here is the patience of the saints, 00:57:10.26\00:57:13.04 here are those who keep the commandments of God 00:57:13.07\00:57:15.84 and the faith of Jesus." 00:57:15.87\00:57:17.86 Yes, my friends, God's people will keep the faith, 00:57:17.89\00:57:21.14 God's people like Job will be patient 00:57:21.17\00:57:23.72 and in the end they will be victorious 00:57:23.75\00:57:26.17 because they trust their life to the Lord. 00:57:26.20\00:57:28.97
