And the power of love is amazing, it helps our health. 00:00:58.29\00:01:03.63 And then, we learned some lifestyle principle. 00:01:03.66\00:01:07.00 We talked about nutrition and eating a plant based diet 00:01:07.03\00:01:10.63 of fruits, nuts, grains, and vegetables. 00:01:10.67\00:01:13.07 And then how important the environment is. 00:01:13.10\00:01:16.30 And now we're going to next study Sunlight. 00:01:16.34\00:01:19.81 And there was something amazing that happened on August 21, 00:01:19.84\00:01:25.28 just this last year of 2017. 00:01:25.31\00:01:29.95 Some people watched by television and many many people 00:01:38.83\00:01:43.80 saw it live. 00:01:43.83\00:01:45.17 The sun is amazing my friends, it is the largest star at the 00:01:45.20\00:01:49.97 center of the Solar System. 00:01:50.04\00:01:51.67 It is the brightest object in the earth's sky. 00:01:51.71\00:01:55.94 Have you ever thought about large and how big 00:01:55.98\00:01:59.25 the sun actually is? 00:01:59.28\00:02:01.68 and how far away it is? 00:02:01.72\00:02:03.49 The sun is ninety three million miles from the earth 00:02:03.52\00:02:07.36 yet it is the most important source of energy 00:02:07.39\00:02:10.86 for life on earth. 00:02:10.93\00:02:12.26 It's an important factor for life right on here on earth. 00:02:12.29\00:02:16.23 The sun is ninety three million miles away 00:02:16.30\00:02:21.44 and yet it is something we need for our health. 00:02:21.47\00:02:25.24 In fact the sun is 109 times larger than the earth. 00:02:25.27\00:02:30.31 A million earths could fit inside the sun. 00:02:30.35\00:02:33.58 Have you ever thought about how big the sun it? 00:02:33.62\00:02:37.55 It doesn't seem that big when you are looking up into the sky. 00:02:37.59\00:02:41.22 But we could fit a million earths inside the sun. 00:02:41.26\00:02:46.33 And the sun and the light of the sun and its heat influence 00:02:46.36\00:02:51.10 all of the objects in the solar system. 00:02:51.13\00:02:53.47 Without the sun, life on earth would not exist. 00:02:53.50\00:02:57.44 We need the sun just to exist here on planet earth. 00:02:57.47\00:03:02.34 And the all-powerful Creator of the universe causes the sun 00:03:02.38\00:03:07.32 to rise and sets on time. 00:03:07.35\00:03:10.12 Think about it, every day the sun comes up on time 00:03:10.19\00:03:14.86 and the sun sets on time. 00:03:14.89\00:03:20.10 So we have order in the universe. 00:03:20.13\00:03:23.33 And with all the spectacular aspects of the sun, 00:03:23.37\00:03:27.60 our loving Creator has created for us the sunlight 00:03:27.64\00:03:33.24 to benefit our health. 00:03:33.27\00:03:34.64 The sunlight is to benefit our health but sometimes many of us 00:03:34.68\00:03:38.38 don't even get out in the sunlight because 00:03:38.41\00:03:41.22 we are living indoors. 00:03:41.25\00:03:42.98 Sunlight is a revalation my friends of God's love. 00:03:43.02\00:03:47.56 God says, I love you so much that I've given you the 00:03:47.62\00:03:52.03 sunlight, I've given you the flowers, I've given you all 00:03:52.06\00:03:55.10 these good things. 00:03:55.13\00:03:56.46 And yes my friends, sunlight is another prescription 00:03:56.50\00:04:00.57 for abundant health right from The Garden of Eden. 00:04:00.64\00:04:04.24 Right from the beginning of creation, God gave us sunlight. 00:04:04.31\00:04:09.91 In Ministry of Healing, page 263 it says this. 00:04:09.94\00:04:14.22 The pure air, the glad sunshine, the wonderful sunshine, 00:04:14.25\00:04:19.75 the beautiful flowers, and the trees, the orchards 00:04:19.79\00:04:23.32 and the vineyards and outdoor exercise amid these surroundings 00:04:23.36\00:04:27.50 are health giving and life giving. 00:04:27.50\00:04:29.93 So have you ever thought about the sun as a health giving, 00:04:29.96\00:04:34.80 life giving remedy to keep you living to that healthy 100? 00:04:34.84\00:04:40.24 Yes, we need the glad sunshine, every day we need that 00:04:40.28\00:04:45.38 glad sunshine. 00:04:45.41\00:04:46.78 And you know, I know that we need it too. 00:04:46.82\00:04:49.28 And I was thinking about that when I was thinking of 00:04:49.32\00:04:52.52 great memories in life. 00:04:52.55\00:04:54.12 Of course a great memory in life...one great memory for us 00:04:54.16\00:04:58.93 is to be with our grandchildren. 00:04:58.96\00:05:00.73 These are our five grandchildren, 00:05:00.76\00:05:03.40 five beautiful, wonderful grandchildren. 00:05:03.47\00:05:06.53 Dyson in the middle, the oldest and then Claire 00:05:06.57\00:05:10.51 on the other end and then Shea and Aden and little Evelyn. 00:05:10.54\00:05:17.45 These five precious little children bring great memories. 00:05:17.48\00:05:21.75 And you know what, we need those great memories 00:05:21.78\00:05:25.65 to be healthy in life as well. 00:05:25.69\00:05:27.72 But I think about other memories. 00:05:27.76\00:05:29.66 I think of the 50 years ago when my husband and I 00:05:29.69\00:05:34.36 were married. 00:05:34.36\00:05:35.70 This last year we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary. 00:05:35.73\00:05:40.70 That's a great memory, it's been a great life 00:05:40.74\00:05:43.97 and so our children ask us, you know this is a once in a 00:05:44.01\00:05:48.18 lifetime event, what would you like to do? 00:05:48.21\00:05:51.18 What special thing would you like to do 00:05:51.21\00:05:53.78 on your 50th wedding anniversary? 00:05:53.82\00:05:55.88 And we said to them, we would like to be with all of our 00:05:55.92\00:05:59.89 children, our grandchildren, and we'd like to be outdoors. 00:05:59.92\00:06:04.26 We'd like to be out in the sunshine. 00:06:04.29\00:06:06.93 And so we decided we were going to a place called 00:06:06.96\00:06:11.87 Tybee Island. Tybee Island is off the coast of Savannah, GA 00:06:11.90\00:06:18.11 and Tybee Island is a wonderful little island 00:06:18.14\00:06:22.44 and we thought, we just want to be with our children, 00:06:22.48\00:06:25.51 our grandchildren and we want to get out in the sunshine 00:06:25.55\00:06:29.05 and the fresh air because we need also these health giving, 00:06:29.08\00:06:33.22 life giving agents that will help us to live longer as well. 00:06:33.25\00:06:38.73 And so we decided to go to Tybee Island and here we are 00:06:38.76\00:06:43.87 50 years from our wedding to now. 00:06:43.93\00:06:48.60 Fifty years later my husband and I had this wonderful event. 00:06:48.64\00:06:53.94 In fact, we got into our wedding clothes. 00:06:53.98\00:06:58.58 I got into my wedding dress, my husband had his sport coat there 00:06:58.61\00:07:05.19 that he had on and our children, our grandchildren 00:07:05.22\00:07:09.99 were so excited when they saw grandma and grandpa 00:07:10.06\00:07:14.76 coming up the stairs in their wedding clothes 50 years later. 00:07:14.83\00:07:21.00 It was an amazing event my friends. 00:07:21.04\00:07:24.01 Our little grandchildren ages from four to eight 00:07:24.04\00:07:26.88 were so excited. They were up there clapping as we just 00:07:26.91\00:07:30.65 were excitedly walking up there. 00:07:30.68\00:07:32.78 We just thought we would do this for the fun of it for them. 00:07:32.81\00:07:37.32 But again, it was a wonderful memory, a wonderful memory. 00:07:37.39\00:07:42.46 And we went out on the beach and had a wonderful time 00:07:42.49\00:07:46.59 with all of our family, our three children and their spouses 00:07:46.63\00:07:52.73 who are now our children and our five grandchildren. 00:07:52.77\00:07:56.71 It was an exciting time out there in the fresh air 00:07:56.77\00:08:01.11 and the sunshine getting those health giving, life giving 00:08:01.14\00:08:06.28 properties. 00:08:06.31\00:08:07.65 Our three children Debbie, Rebecca and Mark 00:08:07.68\00:08:11.92 were excited with us as well. 00:08:11.95\00:08:14.42 And so we had a lot of fun as our five grandchildren 00:08:14.46\00:08:19.49 actually carried my train out on the beach 00:08:19.53\00:08:24.17 so that we could take some pictures and they were 00:08:24.20\00:08:27.24 just so precious as they felt like they were a part 00:08:27.27\00:08:31.27 of our wedding anniversary. 00:08:31.31\00:08:33.68 And here we are with our entire family 00:08:33.71\00:08:37.15 making memories together out on the beach, 00:08:37.18\00:08:41.28 enjoying one another's company. 00:08:41.32\00:08:43.62 And that's why we were saying in one of our programs 00:08:43.69\00:08:46.89 that it is so important to make those precious memories 00:08:46.96\00:08:50.99 because this will last forever. 00:08:51.03\00:08:52.93 I will never forget our 50th wedding anniversary 00:08:52.96\00:08:57.77 because we had our entire family together for one whole week 00:08:57.80\00:09:02.94 on the beach, out in the sunshine. 00:09:02.97\00:09:06.04 And here we are, having fun with each of them 00:09:06.07\00:09:09.68 running and playing and going into the water 00:09:09.71\00:09:13.15 and really improving our health as well. 00:09:13.18\00:09:16.82 And so we need sunlight my friends. 00:09:16.85\00:09:19.55 We knew that if we were going to have a wonderful 00:09:19.59\00:09:22.26 wedding anniversary, we needed to be out too in the sunlight 00:09:22.29\00:09:26.66 because sunlight is crucial for our overall health. 00:09:26.73\00:09:30.97 In fact sunlight happens to be one of the most effective 00:09:31.00\00:09:34.64 healing agents that we can find in nature. 00:09:34.67\00:09:37.87 Sunlight is so important for us to have good health 00:09:37.91\00:09:43.01 so let's look at some benefits of sunshine. 00:09:43.04\00:09:45.88 What are some of the benefits of sunshine? 00:09:45.91\00:09:48.02 Well sunshine in moderation provides multiple 00:09:48.05\00:09:52.82 health benefits. 00:09:52.85\00:09:54.29 Sunshine strengthens the immune system, 00:09:54.32\00:09:57.43 we've talked about that a lot because if we are going to 00:09:57.46\00:10:01.23 live longer and we're going to be healthier 00:10:01.26\00:10:03.33 we need a strong immune system. 00:10:03.37\00:10:06.47 And sunlight alleviates pain. 00:10:06.50\00:10:09.90 Have some of you been fighting with that or struggling 00:10:09.97\00:10:13.84 with that chronic pain? 00:10:13.88\00:10:15.64 And especially as you get a little older, you have 00:10:15.68\00:10:18.68 some of that pain, sunlight can actually help alieve 00:10:18.71\00:10:23.85 some of that pain and studies have shown that and proven that. 00:10:23.89\00:10:27.16 And sunlight lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels. 00:10:27.22\00:10:31.69 So many people today have high blood pressure, high cholesterol 00:10:31.73\00:10:37.10 and we can actually lower that blood pressure by getting out 00:10:37.13\00:10:41.20 in the sunshine. 00:10:41.24\00:10:42.60 And sunshine stimulates the appetite. 00:10:42.64\00:10:46.17 Have you ever wondered why you feel like eating? 00:10:46.21\00:10:49.64 More eating out in the sunshine? 00:10:49.68\00:10:52.18 Of course you can eat a little more because you will 00:10:52.21\00:10:54.58 probably be exercising as well. 00:10:54.62\00:10:56.82 But sunlight actually stimulates the appetite and I can tell you, 00:10:56.85\00:11:02.49 our little grandsons Dyson and Aden were having 00:11:02.52\00:11:07.30 a wonderful time in the water and out there in the sunshine. 00:11:07.40\00:11:11.50 But when it was time to eat, they were ravenously hungry. 00:11:11.53\00:11:15.97 and they had a good appetite because they were out there 00:11:16.00\00:11:19.21 in the sunshine. 00:11:19.24\00:11:20.58 And our three little grand- daughters Claire and Shea 00:11:20.64\00:11:24.85 and Evelyn, they had a wonderful appetite because they were 00:11:24.88\00:11:28.92 out there on the beach in the water and in the sunshine. 00:11:28.95\00:11:33.32 Because sunshine actually improves our digestion 00:11:33.36\00:11:37.49 and elimination and so your whole digestive system 00:11:37.53\00:11:43.06 is going to work better when you are out there in the sunshine. 00:11:43.10\00:11:47.40 And what else does sunshine do? 00:11:47.47\00:11:49.64 Well many things, but it gives you a healthy complexion. 00:11:49.67\00:11:53.41 You are going to look more healthy even and my friends 00:11:53.44\00:11:57.81 I'm sure you want to look healthy 00:11:57.85\00:11:59.81 and so we need to get out there in the fresh air and sunshine. 00:11:59.85\00:12:04.09 And sunshine actually also benefits Alzheimer's patients. 00:12:04.12\00:12:09.52 We have talked about this before, where we need water 00:12:09.56\00:12:13.60 to help Alzheimer's, we need walking and exercise 00:12:13.63\00:12:17.47 but we also need sunlight. 00:12:17.53\00:12:20.34 So your whole system is improved my friends and even patients 00:12:43.59\00:12:49.86 who have Alzheimer's...your conditions can be improved 00:12:49.90\00:12:55.24 when you get out there in the sunshine. 00:12:55.27\00:12:59.14 And sunshine also reduces depression because sunshine 00:12:59.17\00:13:05.61 is a happy vitamin. 00:13:05.65\00:13:08.08 It's just like taking a happy vitamin my friends. 00:13:08.12\00:13:11.72 It's going to soothe the nerves and make you feel better. 00:13:11.75\00:13:15.39 Sometimes you may feel up or you may feel down, 00:13:15.42\00:13:18.96 you may feel nervous and jittery but get out there 00:13:18.99\00:13:22.60 in the sunshine, walk among the trees, 00:13:22.63\00:13:25.13 imbibing that wonderful sunlight and you will feel 00:13:25.17\00:13:28.77 so much better. 00:13:28.80\00:13:30.31 It elevates that mood... 00:13:30.37\00:13:32.44 Some days you may feel up or you may feel down. 00:13:32.47\00:13:35.54 Well, the good thing to do is to get out there in the sunshine 00:13:35.58\00:13:40.38 walking among the trees, in the fresh air 00:13:40.42\00:13:44.15 and this will truly help you to have a better mood. 00:13:44.19\00:13:48.62 In fact... 00:13:48.66\00:13:49.99 So bright rooms verses dim rooms made a difference. 00:14:15.85\00:14:21.56 And that's why it's important to have good big windows 00:14:31.10\00:14:36.14 or at least some windows in our house, especially in our 00:14:36.17\00:14:40.38 sleeping room, especially in the area where we 00:14:40.44\00:14:45.05 spend a lot of time so that we get sunlight even through 00:14:45.08\00:14:49.55 the window. 00:14:49.58\00:14:50.95 Sunlight increases our vitality. 00:14:50.99\00:14:54.26 We are going to feel more energetic. 00:14:54.29\00:14:56.79 Have you ever wondered why you feel so happy 00:14:56.83\00:15:00.33 and you feel so energetic when you are outside 00:15:00.36\00:15:03.37 and you are getting that sun beaming on you? 00:15:03.40\00:15:05.93 It increases your vitality. 00:15:05.97\00:15:08.44 As we get older we have less vigor and vitality to resist 00:15:08.47\00:15:13.41 unhealthful influences. 00:15:13.48\00:15:15.24 It is more important for the aged to have plenty of sunlight 00:15:15.28\00:15:19.95 and fresh, pure air. 00:15:20.02\00:15:22.45 Often times as people get a little older, 00:15:22.48\00:15:25.55 some care givers tend to keep people inside 00:15:25.59\00:15:29.62 but the very thing we need to do is to get them outside 00:15:29.66\00:15:33.80 in the sunshine and fresh air. 00:15:33.83\00:15:36.36 It will help their attitudes and their mental health very much. 00:15:36.40\00:15:42.04 So sunlight increases our vitality and also 00:15:42.07\00:15:49.31 when we get older. 00:15:49.34\00:15:50.95 And sunlight kills germs my friends. 00:15:50.98\00:15:53.62 Let's look at this. 00:15:53.68\00:15:55.95 Now I know today that we have these automatic dryers 00:16:12.10\00:16:16.07 and we don't get our clothes out on a clothesline. 00:16:16.10\00:16:19.91 Well except for some places, recently my husband and I 00:16:19.94\00:16:24.41 visited the Amish Country in Pennsylvania and as we were 00:16:24.45\00:16:29.75 taking a tour, I noticed and I took a picture of the clothes 00:16:29.78\00:16:35.12 hanging out on the clothesline with that pulley 00:16:35.16\00:16:37.69 you know, going into the house and people are still 00:16:37.73\00:16:40.90 hanging out their clothes. 00:16:40.93\00:16:43.00 And you know what? Many of the Amish have very good health. 00:16:43.03\00:16:46.80 So we might not be able to hang all of our clothes outside 00:16:46.84\00:16:50.81 all of the time, but occasionally we can air 00:16:50.87\00:16:53.88 some things outside because it kills germs. 00:16:53.94\00:16:57.25 And then of course sunshine provides vitamin D. 00:16:57.31\00:17:01.72 When natural sunlight penetrates the skin, it triggers the body's 00:17:01.75\00:17:06.22 production of vitamin D. 00:17:06.25\00:17:08.52 And we need vitamin D my friends, it is known as 00:17:08.56\00:17:12.19 "the sunshine vitamin." 00:17:12.23\00:17:14.46 So that means that we shouldn't always have sunscreen on 00:17:24.11\00:17:28.44 if we're going to get out in the sunlight. 00:17:28.48\00:17:31.35 We will get vitamin D from other sources as well. 00:17:31.38\00:17:35.38 And although some foods may be fortified with vitamin D, 00:17:35.42\00:17:41.26 sunlight my friends provides the best source of vitamin D. 00:17:41.29\00:17:45.49 So you will get some with the fortified foods, 00:17:45.53\00:17:49.00 but we really need to get it from the sunlight. 00:17:49.03\00:17:52.17 Why is vitamin D so important? 00:17:52.20\00:17:55.30 Well according to the National Institute of the health office 00:17:55.34\00:17:59.51 on vitamin D, we need that because it protects the body 00:17:59.54\00:18:04.51 from a number of diseases. 00:18:04.55\00:18:07.15 In fact people with low vitamin D usually tend to get many 00:18:07.18\00:18:13.19 of these chronic diseases. 00:18:13.22\00:18:15.16 And research confirms that vitamin D is protective against 00:18:15.19\00:18:20.43 cancers, osteoporosis, rickets and diabetes. 00:18:20.46\00:18:25.10 So when we get adequate amounts of vitamin D, 00:18:25.13\00:18:27.94 then we are going to lower the risk of many of these 00:18:27.97\00:18:32.51 diseases such as cancer, osteoporosis and 00:18:32.54\00:18:36.11 even diabetes 2 today. 00:18:36.14\00:18:38.88 In other words, although some people are saying you can't 00:19:00.70\00:19:04.47 you can't get into the sun because it's a hazard toward 00:19:04.51\00:19:08.34 and a risk of having cancer, it's quite the opposite. 00:19:08.38\00:19:13.08 It's those people who aren't getting in the sun 00:19:13.11\00:19:16.15 are tending to get cancer. 00:19:16.18\00:19:19.39 According to one study in American Journal of 00:19:19.42\00:19:22.82 Clinical Nutrition- 00:19:22.86\00:19:24.19 So we need to get out in the sunshine my friends... 00:19:33.03\00:19:36.64 Yes, we don't want to overdo it, but we need that 00:19:36.71\00:19:39.71 direct sunlight. 00:19:39.74\00:19:41.38 And the higher the vitamin D levels in the blood, 00:19:41.41\00:19:44.61 the lower the risk for colon and colorectal cancers. 00:19:44.65\00:19:48.78 Yes, the skin synthesizes vitamin D in response 00:19:48.82\00:19:53.25 to those UV rays. 00:19:53.29\00:19:54.89 So we need the sunlight my friends. 00:19:54.92\00:19:58.13 And vitamin D is required for the body to absorb calcium 00:19:58.16\00:20:02.70 and phosphorous. 00:20:02.73\00:20:04.97 So some people are not getting enough vitamin D, 00:20:05.00\00:20:09.57 not because they may not be taking it, 00:20:09.60\00:20:12.24 even in the form of a pill, but because they are not 00:20:12.27\00:20:15.74 absorbing it. 00:20:15.78\00:20:17.11 And so we need to absorb also that calcium and phosphorous 00:20:17.15\00:20:22.38 which vitamin D helps to do that. 00:20:22.42\00:20:25.19 And calcium is critically important for normal development 00:20:25.22\00:20:29.59 of our bones and our teeth. 00:20:29.62\00:20:32.39 So we need the calcium, we need the vitamin D to help 00:20:32.43\00:20:36.20 absorb that as well. 00:20:36.23\00:20:37.83 And many many people lack adequate amounts of vitamin D. 00:20:37.87\00:20:42.67 So what is the level that we really should have? 00:20:42.70\00:20:45.91 Well, somewhere between 30 and 60 is the level. 00:20:45.94\00:20:50.41 And research indicates at least 20% of children and adults 00:20:50.48\00:20:55.78 up to age 50 don't have adequate intake of vitamin D. 00:20:55.82\00:21:00.66 Why again my friends? Because of our sedentary indoor life. 00:21:00.69\00:21:06.80 And 95% of adults over 50 do not get adequate amounts 00:21:06.83\00:21:14.20 of vitamin D. 00:21:14.24\00:21:15.57 So studies are showing that people are not getting 00:21:15.60\00:21:19.27 enough vitamin D. 00:21:19.31\00:21:20.84 And vitamin D deficiency is associated with osteoporosis 00:21:20.88\00:21:26.78 and hip fractures. 00:21:26.82\00:21:28.15 And once we get enough adequate vitamin D and enough 00:21:28.18\00:21:32.72 weight bearing exercises, we can reduce the risk of 00:21:32.75\00:21:37.03 osteoporosis and particularly the hip fractures. 00:21:37.09\00:21:40.86 And so we need the sunlight my friends to strengthen our bones. 00:21:56.91\00:22:01.85 We need to get out there, not only in the fresh air, 00:22:01.88\00:22:06.09 but when the sun is shining and get some sunlight. 00:22:06.12\00:22:09.32 Sunshine helps prevent osteoporosis. 00:22:09.36\00:22:13.40 In fact World Statistics show that 1 in 2 women 00:22:13.43\00:22:17.83 and 1 in 3 men will get osteoporosis. 00:22:17.87\00:22:20.97 And 50% of the women and 30% of the men will get fractures. 00:22:21.00\00:22:26.84 We can reduce that by getting some good, extra sunshine. 00:22:26.88\00:22:32.45 But what about vitamin D supplements you ask? 00:22:32.48\00:22:35.88 Well, I'm glad you asked that question, 00:22:35.92\00:22:38.25 So supplements are still being debated my friends 00:22:48.50\00:22:51.97 The best is to get sunlight naturally. 00:22:52.00\00:22:55.14 And research at the University of Edinburgh, 00:22:55.17\00:22:58.21 researchers evaluated the results of 268 previous studies 00:22:58.24\00:23:03.98 of vitamin D.
