Welcome again, my friends, to Secrets to Wellness. 00:00:22.62\00:00:26.96 We're having a great time here at 3ABN 00:00:27.02\00:00:30.59 presenting secrets of how you can live 00:00:30.63\00:00:33.60 longer, healthier, and happier. 00:00:33.66\00:00:36.60 And we have our next subject which is lifestyle. 00:00:36.63\00:00:40.60 We've talked about water 00:00:40.67\00:00:42.60 and the value of drinking adequate amounts of water, 00:00:42.64\00:00:45.71 and exercise, exercising at least five times a week, 00:00:45.74\00:00:50.31 and love, and the power of healing love, 00:00:50.38\00:00:53.65 and now lifestyle. 00:00:53.68\00:00:56.05 A healthy lifestyle necessitates, 00:00:56.08\00:00:58.59 my friends, healthy choices. 00:00:58.62\00:01:00.99 So we do need to make very good choices 00:01:01.02\00:01:03.93 because an unhealthy lifestyle 00:01:03.96\00:01:06.29 is often the result of poor choices. 00:01:06.33\00:01:10.23 So making the right choice is very important. 00:01:10.27\00:01:12.90 And we learn that wellness includes 00:01:12.93\00:01:15.67 the mental, the emotional, the physical, 00:01:15.70\00:01:18.04 social, and spiritual, 00:01:18.07\00:01:19.94 and all of these aspects have to be in proper balance 00:01:19.97\00:01:24.21 to really experience true wellness. 00:01:24.25\00:01:27.48 And so when we talk about lifestyle, 00:01:27.52\00:01:29.62 we talk about temperance or abstemiousness. 00:01:29.65\00:01:32.92 What does that mean? 00:01:32.95\00:01:34.36 Well, first of all, 00:01:34.39\00:01:35.76 temperance is using wisely that which is good. 00:01:35.79\00:01:39.46 So when we eat all of these wonderful things 00:01:39.49\00:01:42.26 like our fruits, and our vegetables, 00:01:42.30\00:01:44.50 and our grains, 00:01:44.53\00:01:46.53 we need to do it wisely and not overeat 00:01:46.57\00:01:49.50 so that we gain weight. 00:01:49.54\00:01:51.77 But then temperance also means 00:01:51.81\00:01:54.24 abstaining from anything and everything 00:01:54.28\00:01:57.58 that is harmful, such as drugs, alcohol, 00:01:57.61\00:02:02.05 tobacco, and even caffeine. 00:02:02.08\00:02:06.12 Let's go over some lifestyle practices 00:02:06.15\00:02:08.62 that actually destroy our bodies. 00:02:08.66\00:02:11.03 One of those is smoking. 00:02:11.06\00:02:13.83 Tobacco is a major killer. 00:02:13.90\00:02:16.63 And I know that recently when I was in the airport, 00:02:16.67\00:02:19.43 I took this picture. 00:02:19.47\00:02:21.14 And the evidence is there, my friends, on smoking, 00:02:21.17\00:02:24.77 "Tobacco kills, tobacco causes cancer, 00:02:24.81\00:02:28.44 tobacco causes emphysema, smokers die younger" 00:02:28.48\00:02:33.52 right on the cigarette package. 00:02:33.58\00:02:36.52 And so we know that tobacco is a major killer today. 00:02:36.55\00:02:40.96 The evidence is there. 00:02:40.99\00:02:42.56 And according to the Centers 00:02:42.59\00:02:44.19 for Disease Control and Prevention, 00:02:44.23\00:02:46.53 smoking causes cancer, heart disease, 00:02:46.56\00:02:49.76 stroke, lung diseases, diabetes, 00:02:49.80\00:02:52.67 chronic obstruction, pulmonary disease, 00:02:52.70\00:02:55.80 which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, 00:02:55.84\00:03:00.31 so all of these chronic diseases, 00:03:00.38\00:03:03.45 my friends, are result of smoking. 00:03:03.48\00:03:07.82 So smokers have a 25% higher risk 00:03:07.85\00:03:12.32 of heart attack than do non-smokers. 00:03:12.35\00:03:15.52 So there are so many detrimental effects of smoking. 00:03:15.56\00:03:20.10 The nicotine causes 00:03:20.13\00:03:21.50 the arteries to actually shrink, 00:03:21.53\00:03:24.30 and when arteries get smaller and smaller, 00:03:24.33\00:03:27.54 clots get caught in the blood vessel 00:03:27.60\00:03:30.27 and then a stroke or a heart attack happens. 00:03:30.31\00:03:33.84 And so we need to be... 00:03:33.88\00:03:36.61 Some of you possibly over-smoking 00:03:36.64\00:03:38.85 and we want to do that. 00:03:38.88\00:03:41.82 And so the Beckman Research Institute says, 00:03:41.85\00:03:44.55 "Smoking is the single biggest cause of cancer in the world." 00:03:44.59\00:03:50.29 Now smoking is number one and then obesity is number two. 00:03:50.33\00:03:55.33 But smoking is the largest or biggest cause of cancer. 00:03:55.36\00:04:00.34 Tobacco smoke contains about 00:04:00.37\00:04:02.27 70 different cancer-causing substances, 00:04:02.30\00:04:05.77 and this is scientifically known today. 00:04:05.81\00:04:08.81 After the Surgeon General's report in 1964, 00:04:08.84\00:04:12.58 we know that there is a direct link 00:04:12.61\00:04:15.08 between cancer and smoking. 00:04:15.12\00:04:17.89 And every cigarette you smoke 00:04:17.92\00:04:20.26 takes 14.5 minutes off your life. 00:04:20.29\00:04:24.23 I don't want to be taking any minutes of my life, do you? 00:04:24.26\00:04:27.60 I'm sure you don't, we want to add those minutes 00:04:27.60\00:04:30.73 and those years to our life. 00:04:30.77\00:04:33.80 In every eight seconds, someone dies from tobacco use. 00:04:33.84\00:04:38.94 This is from the World Health Organization 00:04:38.97\00:04:41.88 in May, 2002. 00:04:41.91\00:04:43.71 So every few seconds, 00:04:43.75\00:04:45.75 someone is dying from tobacco smoke. 00:04:45.78\00:04:48.68 But yet, about a third of the male adults 00:04:48.72\00:04:53.86 of global population are smokers. 00:04:53.92\00:04:57.19 So around the world, we have people 00:04:57.23\00:05:00.33 in spite of all the evidence that we have, still smoking. 00:05:00.36\00:05:05.60 And about among the WHO Regions, 00:05:05.63\00:05:09.37 the Western Pacific Region, which covers East Asia 00:05:09.40\00:05:12.67 and the Pacific, has the highest smoking rate, 00:05:12.71\00:05:15.88 with nearly two-thirds of men smoking. 00:05:15.91\00:05:19.71 In spite of the fact 00:05:19.75\00:05:21.08 that the scientific evidences on smoking, 00:05:21.12\00:05:24.65 there are still many people who are smoking. 00:05:24.69\00:05:28.69 In fact, worldwide tobacco use 00:05:28.72\00:05:31.29 causes nearly six million deaths per year, 00:05:31.33\00:05:34.66 and current trends show that tobacco use 00:05:34.73\00:05:37.53 will cause more than eight million deaths 00:05:37.57\00:05:40.34 annually by 2030. 00:05:40.40\00:05:44.07 And, my friends, each day, more than 3, 200 people 00:05:44.11\00:05:49.41 younger than 18 years of age smoke their first cigarette. 00:05:49.44\00:05:54.18 This is so unfortunate, but once they start 00:05:54.22\00:05:57.65 then they feel like they're hooked 00:05:57.69\00:05:59.89 and they can't get out of it. 00:05:59.92\00:06:02.02 Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death. 00:06:02.06\00:06:06.13 This is something that can be preventable. 00:06:06.16\00:06:09.13 And so, if some of you are out there that are smoking, 00:06:09.16\00:06:12.80 you can make a clean break. 00:06:12.83\00:06:15.50 In fact, if you need help with someone to help you 00:06:15.54\00:06:19.94 to quit smoking, 00:06:19.97\00:06:21.44 just locate your nearest Seventh-day Adventist church 00:06:21.48\00:06:25.08 because I'm sure that they can help you 00:06:25.11\00:06:28.18 to quit this habit. 00:06:28.22\00:06:29.68 Make that clean break because the good news is this. 00:06:29.72\00:06:33.76 Your lungs will improve, your risk of cancer decreases, 00:06:33.79\00:06:38.33 your risk of heart disease decreases, 00:06:38.36\00:06:41.13 your risk of premature death decreases, 00:06:41.16\00:06:45.23 your energy and your endurance will improve, 00:06:45.27\00:06:48.27 your entire health improves, and you know what, 00:06:48.30\00:06:52.01 your food will even tastes better. 00:06:52.04\00:06:54.38 And so you can make that clean break, my friends. 00:06:54.41\00:06:58.05 That is the good news. 00:06:58.08\00:06:59.91 So again, if you need help in quitting smoking, 00:07:00.05\00:07:03.92 please contact your local Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:07:03.95\00:07:08.02 because quitters always win. 00:07:08.06\00:07:10.66 And by the grace of God, you can win. 00:07:10.69\00:07:13.86 You can be a quitter. 00:07:13.93\00:07:16.70 And so, my friends, there are many things 00:07:16.77\00:07:18.97 that Satan wants to deceive us on 00:07:19.00\00:07:21.87 and he deceives millions of Christians even 00:07:21.90\00:07:24.51 into thinking that it doesn't make any difference 00:07:24.54\00:07:27.51 how they treat their bodies 00:07:27.58\00:07:28.91 as long as their hearts are right with God. 00:07:28.94\00:07:31.98 But we need to treat these bodies right, 00:07:32.01\00:07:35.25 get rid of that tobacco, and also alcohol 00:07:35.28\00:07:39.12 because alcohol is deceptive, alcohol is addictive, 00:07:39.15\00:07:44.49 it destroys brain cells 00:07:44.53\00:07:46.70 and it dramatically affects our ability to reason. 00:07:46.73\00:07:50.93 In fact, alcohol destroys the brain, 00:07:50.97\00:07:55.17 and we need every brain cell that we can get. 00:07:55.20\00:07:58.61 So alcohol also damages liver cells 00:07:58.64\00:08:03.11 making them less efficient 00:08:03.14\00:08:05.48 which actually develops into cirrhosis of the liver. 00:08:05.51\00:08:09.92 And so there are many problems, many things about alcohol. 00:08:09.95\00:08:14.32 It weakens the immune system 00:08:14.36\00:08:16.42 and we've talked about that so much 00:08:16.46\00:08:18.43 where we need a strong immune system 00:08:18.46\00:08:21.26 if we're going to be healthy, 00:08:21.30\00:08:22.76 and especially live to that healthy hundred. 00:08:22.80\00:08:25.73 So avoid alcohol and all its stimulants. 00:08:25.77\00:08:30.01 But what about alcohol or red wine someone ask? 00:08:30.04\00:08:34.34 Well, some sources may claim red wine is a health drink, 00:08:34.38\00:08:37.85 but science says, 00:08:37.88\00:08:39.25 "Well, it's still just a bit more confusing." 00:08:39.28\00:08:43.32 The evidence is not all in because look, 00:08:43.39\00:08:46.45 some say wine may be linked with heart health benefits, 00:08:46.49\00:08:50.13 but where are those benefits? 00:08:50.16\00:08:52.06 Are the heart health benefits 00:08:52.09\00:08:53.70 contained actually in the grapes 00:08:53.73\00:08:56.46 and not the fermented wine? 00:08:56.50\00:08:58.87 Well, we know that grape juice helps 00:08:58.90\00:09:00.90 to maintain heart health and helps digestive 00:09:00.97\00:09:04.94 and bowel disorders, 00:09:04.97\00:09:06.57 and will actually boost our immunity, 00:09:06.61\00:09:09.38 and even can delay aging signs. 00:09:09.41\00:09:13.15 And so grape juice also lowers the risk of cancer 00:09:13.18\00:09:17.55 and will help maintain bone health 00:09:17.62\00:09:19.75 because it contains iron and copper and manganese 00:09:19.79\00:09:24.49 and will actually boost your energy levels, 00:09:24.53\00:09:27.50 so grape juice is good, that pure juice of the grape, 00:09:27.56\00:09:31.80 not the fermented wine. 00:09:31.83\00:09:34.87 And the Mayo Clinic reported in an article titled, 00:09:34.90\00:09:38.81 "Does grape juice offer 00:09:38.84\00:09:40.31 the same heart health benefits as red wine?" 00:09:40.38\00:09:43.75 And it says this, "Some research studies suggest 00:09:43.78\00:09:47.22 that red and purple grape juices may provide 00:09:47.25\00:09:50.82 some of the same heart health benefits of red wine, 00:09:50.89\00:09:54.86 including reducing the risk of blood clots, 00:09:54.89\00:09:58.89 reducing low-density lipoprotein or LDL, 00:09:58.93\00:10:04.83 or bad cholesterol 00:10:04.87\00:10:06.53 preventing damage to blood vessels in your heart 00:10:06.57\00:10:09.67 and helping maintain a healthy blood pressure. 00:10:09.70\00:10:13.11 So, my friends, more and more scientific evidence 00:10:13.14\00:10:17.01 is showing that it's the juice of the grape, 00:10:17.05\00:10:20.18 not the fermented wine. 00:10:20.22\00:10:23.12 A Harvard Medical School in a Special Health Report 00:10:23.15\00:10:26.92 called Healthy Eating, page 31 says, 00:10:26.96\00:10:29.99 "Studies have found 00:10:30.03\00:10:31.36 that even moderate alcohol consumption 00:10:31.39\00:10:34.13 raises the risk of breast cancer. 00:10:34.20\00:10:36.90 A meta-analysis that combined the results of 98 studies 00:10:36.93\00:10:41.00 found that women who drank alcohol 00:10:41.04\00:10:43.54 were 11% more likely than non-drinkers 00:10:43.57\00:10:47.31 to get breast cancer." 00:10:47.34\00:10:49.18 So even breast cancer and some of these cancers 00:10:49.21\00:10:52.41 are increased by our use of alcohol. 00:10:52.45\00:10:56.18 And alcohol has also been linked to cancers of the colon, 00:10:56.22\00:11:00.39 the mouth, the throat, and the esophagus. 00:11:00.46\00:11:04.76 And it goes on to say this, my friends, 00:11:04.79\00:11:07.40 and this is very important. 00:11:07.40\00:11:08.90 It says, "It's not worth taking up wine, 00:11:08.93\00:11:12.33 that is fermented wine or any type of alcohol, 00:11:12.37\00:11:16.20 to gain supposed health benefits. 00:11:16.24\00:11:19.07 And if you're at high risk for cancer or alcoholism, 00:11:19.11\00:11:23.14 you may want to avoid alcohol entirely." 00:11:23.18\00:11:27.48 Now that's what science is saying 00:11:27.52\00:11:30.09 that there is more and more becoming a link from alcohol 00:11:30.15\00:11:34.66 from fermented wine to cancer 00:11:34.69\00:11:38.33 and some of these diseases. 00:11:38.36\00:11:40.80 And many years ago, in 1887, John Harvey Kellogg 00:11:40.86\00:11:46.13 who is actually a very prominent physician 00:11:46.17\00:11:48.70 in his day, he says that, 00:11:48.74\00:11:50.94 "Alcohol not only makes people unhealthy 00:11:50.97\00:11:54.01 and shortens their lives, 00:11:54.04\00:11:55.84 but is also the cause of much poverty and crime 00:11:55.88\00:11:59.88 and untold amount of misery." 00:11:59.95\00:12:02.85 He says, really, alcohol actually makes people unhealthy 00:12:02.88\00:12:08.16 and can really even shorten your life. 00:12:08.19\00:12:11.29 I don't want to shorten my life 00:12:11.33\00:12:12.89 and I'm sure you don't want to either. 00:12:12.93\00:12:15.83 And Ellen White, a 19th century health educator 00:12:15.86\00:12:19.20 says this, in Counsels on Diets and Foods, 436, 00:12:19.23\00:12:23.47 "The pure juice of the grape, 00:12:23.51\00:12:25.71 free from fermentation, is a wholesome drink. 00:12:25.74\00:12:29.01 But many of the alcoholic drinks 00:12:29.04\00:12:31.41 which are now so largely consumed 00:12:31.45\00:12:33.98 contain death-dealing potions." 00:12:34.02\00:12:36.89 So the evidence is there, my friends, to be healthy, 00:12:36.95\00:12:40.32 we need to give up smoking, we need to give up alcohol. 00:12:40.36\00:12:44.29 "The only safe course she says is to touch not, taste not, 00:12:44.33\00:12:50.00 handle not, tea, coffee, wines, tobacco, opium, 00:12:50.03\00:12:54.17 and alcoholic drinks." 00:12:54.20\00:12:56.04 So that's the only safe way, my friends, is to give it up. 00:12:56.07\00:13:00.11 But let's look at a drug that people all over the world 00:13:00.18\00:13:03.98 are using every day and don't realize 00:13:04.05\00:13:06.92 the detrimental effects. 00:13:06.95\00:13:08.68 It's caffeine in coffee, tea, soft drinks, and energy drinks, 00:13:08.72\00:13:14.76 cola drinks have a twin 00:13:14.79\00:13:16.29 that is even more harmful to our health 00:13:16.32\00:13:18.93 simply called coffee. 00:13:18.96\00:13:21.60 And yet, this is a big drink among people around the world. 00:13:21.63\00:13:26.63 And medical researchers have discovered 00:13:26.70\00:13:28.90 a significant number of health risks 00:13:28.94\00:13:31.64 with the use of coffee. 00:13:31.67\00:13:34.31 Caffeine may even increase heart rate, 00:13:34.34\00:13:37.41 cause the irregular beats, and even raise cholesterol. 00:13:37.45\00:13:41.85 And, of course, caffeine depletes the body's supply 00:13:41.88\00:13:45.19 of vitamins and minerals including calcium, and iron, 00:13:45.22\00:13:49.19 and B vitamins. 00:13:49.22\00:13:53.19 You see, coffee is actually dehydration, not rehydrating, 00:13:53.23\00:13:57.87 so we're not even getting the water, 00:13:57.90\00:14:00.04 the liquid that we need. 00:14:00.07\00:14:01.70 And, of course, we need all the calcium we can get... 00:14:01.74\00:14:04.34 Time to get their coffee 00:14:04.37\00:14:06.78 because it is addictive. 00:14:06.81\00:14:08.68 And what are the problems 00:14:08.71\00:14:10.15 with excessive amounts of coffee? 00:14:10.18\00:14:12.45 Let's take a look at that. 00:14:12.48\00:14:14.88 One cup of coffee a day increases risk of stomach, 00:14:14.92\00:14:19.09 kidney, lung, rectal, and esophageal cancer. 00:14:19.12\00:14:22.96 And one cup doubles the risk of bladder cancer in women. 00:14:22.99\00:14:29.06 And two cups of coffee a day increases colon cancer risk 00:14:29.10\00:14:33.90 and also increases ovarian and pancreatic cancer. 00:14:33.94\00:14:38.14 So if we want to reduce our risk 00:14:38.17\00:14:40.48 for so many of these chronic diseases 00:14:40.54\00:14:42.91 and particularly cancer that's on the rise today, 00:14:42.94\00:14:46.35 I think it might be a good idea 00:14:46.38\00:14:48.85 to even leave off that drink called coffee. 00:14:48.88\00:14:53.42 And let's look at five cups of coffee a day. 00:14:53.46\00:14:56.99 It increases the risk of heart disease significantly 00:14:57.03\00:15:01.23 and heart disease, of course, 00:15:01.26\00:15:02.70 is the number one killer here in America. 00:15:02.73\00:15:05.60 So the best plan, my friends, is to abstain from all drugs, 00:15:05.63\00:15:10.81 alcohol, tobacco, and even caffeine 00:15:10.84\00:15:14.11 if we truly want to live to that healthy hundred. 00:15:14.18\00:15:17.88 But what should we drink you ask? 00:15:17.91\00:15:20.02 What can I drink? 00:15:20.05\00:15:21.38 Well, water is the beverage designed for our health, 00:15:21.42\00:15:24.22 so I hope we're drinking plenty of that good water 00:15:24.29\00:15:28.76 because that is the beverage designed by God for our health. 00:15:28.79\00:15:32.46 But also some of these juices that 00:15:32.49\00:15:36.46 I know that we like to take oranges, 00:15:36.50\00:15:39.07 fresh oranges from the trees and just squeeze it 00:15:39.10\00:15:42.14 with all that pulp and fiber even in it 00:15:42.17\00:15:44.97 or the grape fruits and squeeze them 00:15:45.01\00:15:48.51 and have that good delicious nutritious drink, 00:15:48.54\00:15:51.75 and, of course, 00:15:51.78\00:15:53.11 the pure juice of the grape is also good. 00:15:53.15\00:15:56.12 But there are some great herbal teas out there 00:15:56.15\00:15:58.79 and they are health promoting drinks as well. 00:15:58.82\00:16:01.62 So find yourself some of those herbal teas 00:16:01.66\00:16:04.93 or some of those good juices 00:16:04.96\00:16:06.93 and just plain water, my friends. 00:16:06.96\00:16:09.63 And God promises to give us abundant health 00:16:09.66\00:16:12.43 when we follow His plan and we do these things. 00:16:12.47\00:16:16.27 But what about our food? 00:16:16.30\00:16:17.97 Does God give us any instruction 00:16:18.01\00:16:19.97 on what we should eat? 00:16:20.01\00:16:21.61 Let's take a look at that. 00:16:21.64\00:16:23.68 You see that Eden diet was a vegetarian diet. 00:16:23.75\00:16:26.92 We had lots of those beautiful, wonderful, 00:16:26.95\00:16:29.82 colorful fruits and vegetables, and we had nuts, and grains, 00:16:29.85\00:16:34.39 and seeds, so the Eden diet was a vegetarian diet. 00:16:34.42\00:16:39.83 And living 969 years, my friends, 00:16:39.86\00:16:43.93 and they were healthy 900 and some years. 00:16:43.97\00:16:47.77 And you see that we live 00:16:47.80\00:16:51.91 only 70 years or if by reason of health, 00:16:51.94\00:16:56.31 we live 80 years or maybe some, 00:16:56.34\00:16:58.95 a very few may live to that very healthy 100. 00:16:58.98\00:17:03.18 "Take with you seven, each of every clean animal, 00:17:03.22\00:17:06.99 a male and his female, two each of animals 00:17:07.02\00:17:10.56 that are unclean, a male and his female." 00:17:10.59\00:17:13.63 So God says, take these animals into the ark with you, 00:17:13.66\00:17:19.53 both the clean and the unclean. 00:17:19.57\00:17:21.57 So we have the clean and... 00:17:21.60\00:17:23.44 That's clean for you. 00:17:23.51\00:17:24.84 Now the best thing 00:17:24.87\00:17:26.21 is what He gave us in the very beginning, 00:17:26.24\00:17:28.51 a plant-based diet, 00:17:28.54\00:17:29.88 but He gave them permission to eat the clean animals 00:17:29.91\00:17:33.62 after the flood. 00:17:33.65\00:17:34.98 So you have the cow, and the sheep, and the deer, 00:17:35.02\00:17:37.99 those are all clean. 00:17:38.02\00:17:39.45 But then Deuteronomy 14:6-8 says, 00:17:39.49\00:17:42.36 "Nevertheless, of those that chew the cud 00:17:42.39\00:17:44.93 or have cloven hooves, 00:17:44.96\00:17:46.53 you shall not eat, such as the camel," 00:17:46.56\00:17:50.07 so I guess no more camel, my friends. 00:17:50.13\00:17:52.57 "Or the hare," which is the rabbit, 00:17:52.60\00:17:54.60 "and the rock hyrax," which is a rat," 00:17:54.64\00:17:57.27 for they chew the cud but do not have cloven hooves, 00:17:57.31\00:18:00.91 they are unclean for you." 00:18:00.94\00:18:03.71 And it goes on also to say, 00:18:03.78\00:18:06.31 "Also the," what, "the swine..." 00:18:06.35\00:18:09.18 What is the swine? Pig. 00:18:09.22\00:18:11.72 And people are eating so much swine today, 00:18:11.75\00:18:14.69 so much pig. 00:18:14.72\00:18:16.06 It's unclean for you because it has cloven hooves, 00:18:16.09\00:18:19.53 yet it does not chew the cud. 00:18:19.56\00:18:22.33 You shall not eat their flesh or touch their dead carcass. 00:18:22.36\00:18:26.37 So God says, don't eat these animals, 00:18:26.40\00:18:30.01 they are not good for you. 00:18:30.04\00:18:32.04 And God doesn't want to take anything away from us, 00:18:32.07\00:18:34.64 He only wants to give us that which is good. 00:18:34.68\00:18:37.98 And pork has the highest fat content of all meats. 00:18:38.01\00:18:41.92 So your health depends, my friends, on what you eat, 00:18:41.95\00:18:45.09 but what about those that are in the waters. 00:18:45.12\00:18:47.66 Deuteronomy 14:9 says, 00:18:47.69\00:18:50.33 "These you may eat of all that are in the waters, 00:18:50.36\00:18:52.96 you may eat all that has fins and scales." 00:18:52.99\00:18:55.60 So whatever has fins and scales, 00:18:55.63\00:18:57.80 God says, that's okay to eat, 00:18:57.83\00:19:00.47 and whatever does not have fins and scales, 00:19:00.50\00:19:03.10 you shall not eat, it's unclean for you. 00:19:03.14\00:19:06.14 So like the lobsters, and the clams, and the octopus, 00:19:06.17\00:19:09.74 and all of these things, they are unclean for you. 00:19:09.78\00:19:13.21 So instead of eating these unhealthy foods, my friends, 00:19:13.25\00:19:17.45 we may eat nutritious, healthful, protein foods. 00:19:17.52\00:19:21.72 So we want to eat these good foods. 00:19:21.76\00:19:24.16 Ellen White says in the book 00:19:24.19\00:19:25.79 Counsels on Diets and Foods, 380, 00:19:25.83\00:19:28.56 "Again and again I've been shown 00:19:28.60\00:19:30.37 that God is trying to lead us back, 00:19:30.40\00:19:33.00 step by step, to His original design, 00:19:33.03\00:19:36.17 that man should subsist upon 00:19:36.20\00:19:37.94 the natural products of the earth." 00:19:37.97\00:19:40.08 So God says, yes, you can eat the clean animals 00:19:40.11\00:19:43.24 but if you want to be really healthy, 00:19:43.28\00:19:45.48 the best food is that which I gave you 00:19:45.51\00:19:48.15 right in the Garden of Eden. 00:19:48.18\00:19:51.29 "Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables 00:19:51.32\00:19:53.59 constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. 00:19:53.66\00:19:56.83 These foods, prepared in as simple and natural 00:19:56.86\00:19:59.39 a manner as possible, 00:19:59.43\00:20:01.33 are the most helpful and nourishing. 00:20:01.36\00:20:04.27 They impart us strength, the power of endurance, 00:20:04.30\00:20:07.00 and the vigor of intellect that are not afforded 00:20:07.04\00:20:10.27 by a more complex and stimulating diet." 00:20:10.31\00:20:13.94 My friends, there are so many plant-based food options 00:20:13.98\00:20:18.21 that are readily available today in grocery stores, 00:20:18.25\00:20:21.62 in restaurants, in hotel buffets, 00:20:21.65\00:20:24.52 airports, airplanes, everywhere we go, 00:20:24.55\00:20:27.32 we see the options today because people are realizing 00:20:27.36\00:20:31.26 that if they want to live longer, healthier, 00:20:31.29\00:20:33.19 and happier that we need to follow 00:20:33.23\00:20:35.66 some of these principles, even with our food, our diets. 00:20:35.70\00:20:39.97 And there are many advantages of a total vegetarian diet. 00:20:40.00\00:20:43.34 It lowers blood cholesterol, lowers high blood pressure, 00:20:43.37\00:20:47.31 lowers the risk of certain cancers, 00:20:47.34\00:20:49.64 the risk of osteoporosis, 00:20:49.68\00:20:51.85 and it improves diabetes symptoms, 00:20:51.88\00:20:54.15 enhances vigor and endurance, and best of all, my friends, 00:20:54.18\00:20:58.55 it lengthens the life span. 00:20:58.59\00:21:00.46 We know that you can lengthen the life span 00:21:00.49\00:21:03.86 if you eat a plant-based diet. 00:21:03.93\00:21:07.00 So how can I live in harmony with God's laws of health 00:21:07.03\00:21:10.43 when I feel so powerless, 00:21:10.47\00:21:13.03 when I feel so like I just can't do it, 00:21:13.07\00:21:15.44 how am I going to give up such things as tobacco, 00:21:15.47\00:21:19.84 or alcohol, or caffeine, coffee, or unclean foods, 00:21:19.87\00:21:24.75 how can I do that?
