00:04:05.94\00:04:10.35 You hold me by my right hand." 00:04:10.38\00:04:14.05 You see a picture here of God holding us 00:04:14.35\00:04:16.82 by the right hand, leading us through difficulties 00:04:16.85\00:04:20.39 and troubles, and through the cares of life. 00:04:20.42\00:04:22.49 Ps 145:18-19, notice: 00:04:22.52\00:04:26.09 "The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, 00:04:26.13\00:04:30.93 to all who call upon Him in truth. 00:04:30.97\00:04:33.17 He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; 00:04:33.54\00:04:37.44 He also will hear their cry and save them." 00:04:37.47\00:04:40.71 My name is John Dinzey, for those listening by radio. 00:04:41.21\00:04:43.65 We'd like to ask you to join us now, Ps 119:151, 00:04:43.95\00:04:48.28 another scripture that tells us that God is near. 00:04:48.32\00:04:50.55 "You are near, O Lord, and all Your commandments are truth." 00:04:50.59\00:04:55.16 Wonderful scripture. 00:04:55.19\00:04:56.52 Ps 34:18, so many of them. 00:04:56.56\00:04:58.89 "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, 00:04:58.93\00:05:02.83 and saves such as have a contrite spirit." 00:05:02.86\00:05:05.63 So if you have a broken heart, going through difficult time, 00:05:05.93\00:05:10.01 know that the Lord is near. 00:05:10.04\00:05:12.87 He is near to you right now. 00:05:12.91\00:05:15.44 I'm reading from the lesson now, and it says, 00:05:15.74\00:05:17.71 "We should remember that the proper response to the Lord's 00:05:17.75\00:05:21.58 nearness consists in a life of faith in Him 00:05:21.62\00:05:26.89 and of obedience to His commandments. 00:05:26.92\00:05:29.12 Nothing short of this faith and obedience will be acceptable 00:05:29.16\00:05:33.76 to Him, as the history of Israel often revealed." 00:05:33.80\00:05:37.63 You can see in the history of Israel that when they were 00:05:37.67\00:05:39.77 faithful, wonderful things happened to them. 00:05:39.80\00:05:42.34 They were greatly benefitted. 00:05:42.37\00:05:44.01 Now please understand that God is always blessing His 00:05:44.04\00:05:47.04 children no matter what their situation is. 00:05:47.08\00:05:49.74 Because He brings rain, He brings sunshine; 00:05:50.08\00:05:53.92 and all of the people of the world receive the blessing 00:05:54.22\00:05:57.65 of those gifts from the Lord that come to us 00:05:57.69\00:06:00.49 each and every single day. 00:06:00.52\00:06:02.72 Sunday's lesson is entitled, My Frame Was Not Hidden From You. 00:06:03.06\00:06:07.10 This day of the week focuses on Psalm 139 beginning in verse 1. 00:06:07.43\00:06:13.07 And so let's go there right now. 00:06:13.27\00:06:15.27 "O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 00:06:15.74\00:06:21.31 You know my sitting down and my rising up; 00:06:21.34\00:06:24.81 You understand my thought afar off." 00:06:24.85\00:06:28.35 God is so acquainted with us that even our very thoughts 00:06:28.72\00:06:32.85 are known by Him. 00:06:32.89\00:06:34.62 And He is all-powerful. 00:06:34.99\00:06:37.23 You know, as you study God and His character, 00:06:37.56\00:06:40.06 you will notice that He is an omnipotent, omnipresent, 00:06:40.10\00:06:42.90 omniscient God. 00:06:43.10\00:06:44.43 He is all-powerful, all knowing, and all present 00:06:44.47\00:06:48.50 everywhere all the time. 00:06:48.54\00:06:50.94 And we praise His name for that. 00:06:51.04\00:06:53.58 We continue now in Ps 139:3. 00:06:54.14\00:06:57.41 "You comprehend my path and my lying down, 00:06:57.88\00:07:01.05 and are acquainted with all my ways. 00:07:01.08\00:07:03.49 For there is not a word on my tongue, 00:07:03.52\00:07:05.55 but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether." 00:07:05.59\00:07:08.49 So even before we speak, the Lord knows. 00:07:08.59\00:07:10.73 He knows our very thoughts. 00:07:10.76\00:07:12.46 Now this is a blessing, and should be a blessing to you. 00:07:12.79\00:07:16.36 And we are instructed to be slow to speak 00:07:16.67\00:07:19.43 and swift to hear. 00:07:19.47\00:07:20.80 And you know that many thoughts that come to your mind, 00:07:20.87\00:07:22.97 if you had said them all, you would be in serious trouble. 00:07:23.00\00:07:26.21 I know I would have been in serious trouble 00:07:27.24\00:07:28.88 if I had said everything to comes to my mind. 00:07:28.91\00:07:30.81 So the Bible gives us instruction. 00:07:30.91\00:07:32.95 Be slow to speak, swift to hear. 00:07:32.98\00:07:34.75 And how many of us have said things that we say, 00:07:34.78\00:07:37.89 "I shouldn't have said that." 00:07:37.92\00:07:39.55 In John 10:10 we have a scripture that helps us 00:07:40.69\00:07:44.79 to understand the care of the Lord, because it says, 00:07:44.83\00:07:48.63 "The thief does not come except to steal, 00:07:48.66\00:07:51.33 and to kill, and to destroy." 00:07:51.37\00:07:53.20 And Jesus says, "I have come that they may have life, 00:07:53.44\00:07:56.71 and that they may have it more abundantly." 00:07:56.74\00:07:59.07 The background of this, Psalm 139, says that God is 00:07:59.47\00:08:03.45 ever-present, there with us knows our thoughts, 00:08:03.48\00:08:06.48 and wants to help us and protect us. 00:08:06.51\00:08:08.82 Why? Because He knows, 00:08:09.18\00:08:11.39 He can see from where He is, everything. 00:08:11.42\00:08:15.52 You know, you're traveling over here, He knows what's ahead, 00:08:16.02\00:08:18.39 He knows what's behind you, He knows what's all around. 00:08:18.43\00:08:20.50 And He's always protecting us. 00:08:20.76\00:08:22.50 And notice in 1 Peter 5:6, "Therefore, humble yourselves 00:08:23.00\00:08:28.10 under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you 00:08:28.14\00:08:32.11 in due time, casting all your care upon Him, 00:08:32.14\00:08:35.61 for He cares for you." 00:08:35.64\00:08:37.45 When you look at Psalm 139, some people may be alarmed. 00:08:37.48\00:08:40.28 "God knows what I think. God knows what I say. 00:08:40.32\00:08:42.55 He's always watching me." 00:08:42.58\00:08:43.92 Some people may be scared by this. 00:08:43.95\00:08:45.32 But the reason He does this is because He loves us 00:08:45.35\00:08:48.56 and wants to protect us and benefit us. 00:08:48.59\00:08:51.33 Why? Look at 1 Peter 5:8. 00:08:51.93\00:08:55.56 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil 00:08:55.60\00:08:58.87 walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." 00:08:58.90\00:09:02.74 Would you like the Lord to say, "I'll be back. 00:09:03.47\00:09:05.41 I'll see you after I come back from vacation 00:09:05.44\00:09:07.91 in about three weeks." 00:09:07.94\00:09:09.28 Oh, that would be horrible for us, wouldn't it? 00:09:09.31\00:09:12.51 Because the devil is as a roaring lion 00:09:12.78\00:09:14.95 seeking whom he may devour. 00:09:14.98\00:09:16.32 So we should be grateful that the Lord is with us. 00:09:16.35\00:09:19.39 Ps 139:5, "You have hedged..." 00:09:19.42\00:09:23.63 In the King James Version, it says, "beset". 00:09:23.93\00:09:26.43 "You have hedged me behind and before, 00:09:26.46\00:09:29.46 and laid Your hand upon me." 00:09:29.50\00:09:31.77 This is a caring, loving God. 00:09:31.80\00:09:34.44 Notice that this word, "hedged," or "beset," 00:09:34.77\00:09:39.11 can be negative or it can be positive. 00:09:39.31\00:09:42.98 Because it means also to bind, to besiege, 00:09:43.01\00:09:45.71 to confine, to cramp. 00:09:45.75\00:09:47.08 But it also means to secure. 00:09:47.12\00:09:49.05 And this is in the sense of positive; securing us. 00:09:49.55\00:09:53.22 How do we know that? 00:09:53.66\00:09:55.02 Because verse 6 says, "Such knowledge is too wonderful 00:09:55.06\00:09:59.63 for me; it is high, I cannot attain it." 00:09:59.66\00:10:02.90 The psalmist was so impressed by the fact that God is there 00:10:03.10\00:10:07.74 constantly, continually. 00:10:07.77\00:10:09.30 24 hours a day, every minute of the day, every second of the day 00:10:09.50\00:10:12.94 God is with us protecting us from all the harm 00:10:12.97\00:10:16.81 that the devil would like to do to us. 00:10:16.85\00:10:18.68 And I am sure that those listening to me, 00:10:18.71\00:10:21.95 many can say, "Well, God has saved my life at least once." 00:10:22.78\00:10:26.55 And I know maybe here some of us may raise our hands, 00:10:26.86\00:10:29.32 "Yes, God has saved my life at least once." 00:10:29.36\00:10:31.23 I know several times the Lord has saved my life. 00:10:31.26\00:10:33.40 Because the devil seemed that he wanted to destroy 00:10:33.73\00:10:37.23 in some way or another, or cause great harm. 00:10:37.27\00:10:40.00 And the Lord protected us from that. 00:10:40.04\00:10:42.34 I go to Ps 62:7-8. 00:10:42.77\00:10:45.91 Notice what it says here. 00:10:46.31\00:10:47.64 "In God is my salvation and my glory; 00:10:47.68\00:10:51.88 the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 00:10:51.91\00:10:56.92 Trust in Him at all times, you people; 00:10:57.29\00:11:00.26 pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us." 00:11:00.29\00:11:05.26 God is a refuge for us. 00:11:05.29\00:11:08.50 I encourage you to trust Him at all times. 00:11:08.53\00:11:11.13 Now we're going to look at some verses that 00:11:11.33\00:11:12.77 tell us that God is omnipresent once more. 00:11:12.80\00:11:15.24 We go to Psalm 139 beginning in verse 7. 00:11:15.50\00:11:17.97 "Where can I go from Your Spirit? 00:11:18.01\00:11:21.18 Or where can I flee from Your presence? 00:11:21.38\00:11:24.45 If I ascend into heaven, You are there. 00:11:24.65\00:11:27.32 If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 00:11:27.35\00:11:31.25 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the 00:11:31.29\00:11:34.26 uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me..." 00:11:34.29\00:11:39.39 Notice, "...lead me..." 00:11:39.43\00:11:40.93 "...and Your right hand shall hold me. 00:11:40.96\00:11:43.47 If I say, 'Surely the darkness shall fall on me,' 00:11:43.83\00:11:47.30 even the night shall be light about me. 00:11:47.34\00:11:50.17 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, 00:11:50.21\00:11:54.58 but the night shines as the day. 00:11:54.61\00:11:56.95 The darkness and the light are both alike to You." 00:11:56.98\00:12:00.08 Whether you're going through times that you consider 00:12:00.18\00:12:01.92 light, or whether you're going through times that seem darkness 00:12:01.95\00:12:04.79 and troubling, God is there. 00:12:04.82\00:12:07.69 And we can trust Him. 00:12:07.72\00:12:09.06 And we can be at peace knowing that He is in control. 00:12:09.09\00:12:12.36 Ps 139:13, "For You formed my inward parts; 00:12:12.63\00:12:17.90 You covered me in my mother's womb. 00:12:17.93\00:12:21.04 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; 00:12:21.50\00:12:26.47 marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well." 00:12:26.51\00:12:32.15 Praise the Lord for His goodness and His mercy. 00:12:32.51\00:12:35.32 I'm reading to you from a book, Christian Education, 00:12:35.92\00:12:37.89 by Ellen G. White, page 195. 00:12:37.92\00:12:40.06 Notice these thoughts. 00:12:40.09\00:12:41.42 "But His energy is still exerted in upholding the 00:12:41.62\00:12:44.79 objects of His creation. 00:12:44.83\00:12:46.46 It is not because the mechanism that He has once set in motion 00:12:46.49\00:12:51.00 continues to act by its own inherent energy 00:12:51.03\00:12:54.37 that the pulse beats and breath follows breath. 00:12:54.67\00:12:57.97 But every breath, every pulsation of the heart 00:12:58.47\00:13:01.14 is evidence of the all-pervading care of Him in whom we live and 00:13:01.18\00:13:06.01 move and have our being," as it is written in Acts 17:28. 00:13:06.05\00:13:09.95 "It is not because of inherent power that year by year 00:13:09.98\00:13:12.75 the earth produces her bounties and continues 00:13:12.79\00:13:15.62 her motion around the sun. 00:13:15.66\00:13:16.99 The hand of God guides the planets and keeps them 00:13:17.03\00:13:20.50 in position in their orderly march through the heavens. 00:13:20.53\00:13:23.53 He 'bringeth out their host by number 00:13:23.73\00:13:25.60 and He calleth them all by names by the greatness of His might, 00:13:25.63\00:13:29.27 for that, He is strong in power; not one faileth.'" 00:13:29.47\00:13:33.04 From Isaiah 40:26. 00:13:33.07\00:13:35.04 Trust in the Lord. He's always there. 00:13:35.24\00:13:38.11 And He will always be with you. 00:13:38.35\00:13:40.18 Trust Him completely no matter what circumstances 00:13:40.22\00:13:43.12 you're facing because He cares for you and has 00:13:43.15\00:13:46.55 your best interest in mind. 00:13:46.59\00:13:48.92 And I praise the Lord for that. 00:13:48.96\00:13:50.99 Amen, amen. Thank you, Pastor Dinzey. Powerful. 00:13:51.03\00:13:53.40 Beginning this lesson, my name is Ryan Day, 00:13:53.70\00:13:56.00 I have Monday's lesson entitled, Assurance of God's Care. 00:13:56.03\00:13:59.83 And that title just really sums it all up of what we're 00:13:59.87\00:14:02.54 going to talk about over the next 10 minutes together. 00:14:02.57\00:14:05.27 We're going to be diving right into the Psalms, 00:14:06.04\00:14:08.24 multiple psalms here. 00:14:08.28\00:14:09.61 We're going to be looking at Psalm 40, Psalm 50, Psalm 55, 00:14:09.64\00:14:13.25 we're going to jump into Psalm 121. 00:14:13.28\00:14:15.38 And we're going to see that there is a common theme 00:14:15.72\00:14:19.19 among all of these text. 00:14:19.39\00:14:20.72 And by the way, these are not the only texts. 00:14:20.76\00:14:22.76 There are multiple, multiple text that we have already 00:14:22.79\00:14:24.93 read and heard just in these opening three lessons 00:14:24.96\00:14:27.80 of this study on the book of Psalms. 00:14:27.83\00:14:29.96 But Monday's lesson is bringing out, emphasizing 00:14:30.27\00:14:33.74 and highlighting the fact that we can be assured, 00:14:33.77\00:14:36.30 we can know with absolute certainty, 00:14:36.34\00:14:38.71 and have trust in the fact that God provides for us. 00:14:38.74\00:14:41.88 He takes care of us and He's there for us. 00:14:41.91\00:14:44.38 Ps 40:1-3, the point we're making here is that God, 00:14:44.65\00:14:48.92 He directs and He delivers us. 00:14:48.95\00:14:50.72 He promises that. 00:14:50.75\00:14:52.09 Notice what it says here in Psalm 40:1-3. 00:14:52.12\00:14:54.66 It says, "I waited patiently for the Lord; 00:14:55.46\00:14:57.73 and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. 00:14:57.76\00:15:00.66 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit..." 00:15:00.70\00:15:04.80 Have you been in a pit in your life? 00:15:04.83\00:15:06.33 Have you found yourself? in a dark despairing 00:15:06.37\00:15:08.44 pit at some point? 00:15:08.47\00:15:09.80 If you haven't, eventually, you will. 00:15:09.84\00:15:11.77 Can you hold onto and have the beautiful outlook 00:15:11.81\00:15:15.68 that the psalmist is writing here? 00:15:15.71\00:15:17.41 Is says, "He also brought me out of a horrible pit, 00:15:17.45\00:15:19.88 out of a miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, 00:15:19.91\00:15:22.82 and established my steps. 00:15:22.85\00:15:24.22 He has put a new song in my mouth. 00:15:24.25\00:15:26.52 Praise to our God; many will see it and fear, 00:15:26.55\00:15:29.89 and will trust in the Lord." 00:15:30.19\00:15:32.63 And so, He directs, He delivers, He's there for us. 00:15:32.66\00:15:36.10 Ps 50:15 00:15:36.13\00:15:38.60 Lots of text here to go through. 00:15:39.13\00:15:40.60 So I want to try to get to as many of them as we can. 00:15:40.64\00:15:43.14 Ps 50:15, same point here. 00:15:43.47\00:15:46.07 "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; 00:15:46.11\00:15:49.38 I will deliver you," says the Lord, 00:15:49.41\00:15:51.38 "and you shall glorify Me." 00:15:51.41\00:15:53.25 So God promises, He says, "Look, call upon Me. 00:15:53.28\00:15:55.72 I will deliver you." 00:15:55.75\00:15:57.09 Now here's the thing. 00:15:57.12\00:15:58.45 Never make the mistake that in the immediate aftermath of 00:15:58.49\00:16:02.12 you calling on Him that your deliverance will be there. 00:16:02.16\00:16:04.49 Sometimes God's timing is not your timing. 00:16:04.53\00:16:07.93 But indeed, the promise is there. 00:16:07.96\00:16:09.53 He says, "Call out on Me, call up on Me, 00:16:09.56\00:16:11.93 and I will deliver you in the day, 00:16:11.97\00:16:13.87 and you shall glorify Me." 00:16:13.90\00:16:15.47 And so Ps 55:22, He brings rest to the weary. 00:16:15.50\00:16:21.18 So these text that we're reading here are showing us 00:16:21.28\00:16:24.35 different aspects and how God cares for His people. 00:16:24.38\00:16:27.88 He brings rest to the weary. 00:16:27.92\00:16:29.35 Ps 55:22, "Cast your burden on the Lord, 00:16:29.38\00:16:33.49 and He shall sustain you; 00:16:33.52\00:16:35.72 He shall never permit the righteous to be moved." 00:16:35.76\00:16:39.09 And I love this text because it reminds me also of 00:16:39.13\00:16:41.50 what we see in Matthew 11:28 when Jesus says, "Come to Me 00:16:41.53\00:16:45.63 all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." 00:16:45.67\00:16:49.27 Jesus, of course, showing up as man, robed in flesh. 00:16:49.37\00:16:52.37 He is the very direct personification 00:16:52.41\00:16:55.04 of what we see in the Father. 00:16:55.08\00:16:56.41 And He's revealing again what the psalmist is writing here. 00:16:56.44\00:16:58.91 That God is there for you. 00:16:59.01\00:17:00.35 He will bring rest to the weary. 00:17:00.38\00:17:02.95 God supports us. He's there for us. 00:17:03.25\00:17:05.85 He assists you. 00:17:05.95\00:17:07.62 And of course, He never sleeps on you either. 00:17:07.66\00:17:10.69 In other words, He's not going to go take a nap 00:17:10.73\00:17:12.79 while you're out here in the world and doing your thing, 00:17:12.83\00:17:14.86 and forget about you. 00:17:14.90\00:17:16.23 God is always there for you. 00:17:16.26\00:17:17.60 Notice what Psalm 121 says. 00:17:17.63\00:17:19.47 Of course, we're going to read verses 1-8. 00:17:19.50\00:17:21.44 Ps 121:1-8 says, "I will lift up my eyes to the hills. 00:17:21.87\00:17:26.01 From when comes my help? 00:17:26.04\00:17:27.61 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. 00:17:27.64\00:17:31.48 He will not allow your foot to be moved; 00:17:31.51\00:17:33.75 He who keeps you will not slumber." 00:17:33.78\00:17:36.95 I love that. So not only is He there to support you, 00:17:36.99\00:17:39.25 is He there to assist you, is He there to direct you, 00:17:39.29\00:17:42.02 He's not sleeping on you either. 00:17:42.22\00:17:43.63 I love that. 00:17:43.66\00:17:44.99 "Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. 00:17:45.03\00:17:49.46 The Lord is your keeper; 00:17:49.50\00:17:51.10 the Lord is your shade at your right hand. 00:17:51.13\00:17:54.47 The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. 00:17:54.50\00:17:57.51 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil. 00:17:57.54\00:17:59.87 He shall preserve your soul. 00:17:59.91\00:18:01.34 The Lord shall preserve your going out and you're coming in 00:18:01.38\00:18:04.51 from this time forth, and even forevermore." 00:18:04.55\00:18:07.72 So again, we have this deep assurance and this promise 00:18:07.75\00:18:10.45 that God is there for you. 00:18:10.49\00:18:11.85 He's there for you in a way that no one else will be. 00:18:11.89\00:18:14.62 And we have that beautiful promise in the Lord. 00:18:14.72\00:18:16.93 There is no need to fear, as we have brought out, 00:18:17.33\00:18:19.63 because God also brings protection. 00:18:19.66\00:18:21.86 His care brings protection. 00:18:21.90\00:18:23.83 And I go now over into Is 41:10 just to establish and further 00:18:23.87\00:18:28.74 solidify the point that this lesson is trying to make. 00:18:28.77\00:18:30.97 And that is, that God takes care of His people. 00:18:31.27\00:18:33.48 Maybe not always, again, in the immediate timing that 00:18:34.48\00:18:37.68 you are expecting, because sometimes God will allow us 00:18:37.71\00:18:40.32 to fall into various trials and challenges and difficulties 00:18:40.35\00:18:43.79 because it builds perseverance, 00:18:43.82\00:18:45.29 it builds faith, it builds patience. 00:18:45.32\00:18:47.16 and it builds character. 00:18:47.19\00:18:48.79 But nonetheless, God promises to deliver and to come through. 00:18:48.82\00:18:52.63 And so Is 41:10, I love this. 00:18:52.66\00:18:54.46 "Fear no," He says, "for I am with you; 00:18:54.50\00:18:56.73 be not dismayed, for I am your God. 00:18:56.77\00:18:59.40 I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you. 00:18:59.43\00:19:01.60 I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." 00:19:01.64\00:19:04.87 That's one of my favorite Bible text in all the Bible. 00:19:04.91\00:19:06.91 Isaiah 43, you've got to read that one as well. 00:19:06.94\00:19:08.78 Is 43:1-2 00:19:08.81\00:19:10.15 "'But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, 00:19:10.18\00:19:12.68 and He who formed you, O Israel; 00:19:12.71\00:19:14.48 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you; 00:19:14.52\00:19:16.32 I have called you by your name; you are Mine.'" 00:19:16.35\00:19:19.72 I love that. I love that. 00:19:19.75\00:19:21.72 "You're Mine," He says. "You're My child." 00:19:21.76\00:19:23.79 And so He says, "When you pass through the waters, 00:19:23.83\00:19:25.59 I will be with you." 00:19:25.63\00:19:26.96 Notice how it doesn't say, "I will save you from the waters." 00:19:27.00\00:19:29.06 When you go "through the rivers, they shall not overflow you." 00:19:30.20\00:19:33.13 Notice how He says, "I'm going to take you, 00:19:33.17\00:19:34.50 I'm going to completely bring you out of the waters, 00:19:34.54\00:19:36.50 or make you far away from the waters." 00:19:36.54\00:19:38.17 He's with us through these trials. 00:19:38.21\00:19:40.01 He'll allow us sometimes to go through these trials, 00:19:40.04\00:19:42.14 but He's with us through it. 00:19:42.18\00:19:43.65 Just as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego... 00:19:43.68\00:19:46.01 Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, that's their real names. 00:19:46.05\00:19:47.68 I like to refer to them by that. 00:19:47.72\00:19:49.05 He didn't save them from the fires, 00:19:49.08\00:19:50.55 but He saved them through the fires. 00:19:50.59\00:19:51.92 And that's what this promise is. 00:19:51.95\00:19:53.29 "When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, 00:19:53.32\00:19:55.26 nor shall the flame scorch you. 00:19:55.36\00:19:57.19 That's Is 43:1-2. 00:19:57.23\00:19:59.03 God cares and supplies our need. 00:19:59.06\00:20:02.26 He's got you. I love that. 00:20:02.60\00:20:04.27 Matt 6:31-33, "Therefore do not worry, saying, 00:20:04.77\00:20:08.40 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' 00:20:08.44\00:20:10.11 or 'What shall we wear?' 00:20:10.14\00:20:11.47 For after all these things the Gentiles seek." 00:20:11.51\00:20:13.31 Saying, the heathens of the world, those who are 00:20:13.34\00:20:15.34 non-believers, the people who have no hope in Christ, 00:20:15.38\00:20:18.25 they worry about those things. 00:20:18.28\00:20:20.02 It says, "For your Father in heaven knows that you 00:20:20.12\00:20:22.22 need all these things. 00:20:22.25\00:20:23.59 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, 00:20:23.62\00:20:26.55 and all these things shall be added unto you." 00:20:26.59\00:20:29.79 So God's got you, okay. 00:20:29.82\00:20:31.16 So no matter where you are in your life, and no matter 00:20:31.19\00:20:32.76 what you're going through, He's going to provide for your needs. 00:20:32.79\00:20:35.63 His care brings, again, a providing hand 00:20:35.66\00:20:39.27 and supplies all your needs. 00:20:39.30\00:20:40.64 God's care comforts our sorrows, our pains, and our anxieties. 00:20:40.90\00:20:45.54 Our mental stress that we go through in this life. 00:20:45.57\00:20:48.88 And this life certainly brings them. 00:20:48.91\00:20:50.58 And again, I go back to that text I quoted earlier, 00:20:50.61\00:20:52.68 Matt 11:28-30. 00:20:52.71\00:20:54.78 "Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy-laden, 00:20:54.82\00:20:57.22 and I will give you rest." 00:20:57.25\00:20:59.19 I love that. 00:20:59.22\00:21:00.56 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle 00:21:00.59\00:21:02.69 and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 00:21:02.72\00:21:05.96 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." 00:21:05.99\00:21:08.80 Those are some of the most amazing words 00:21:09.00\00:21:10.77 you can hear from your Creator. 00:21:10.80\00:21:12.13 "My yoke is easy and My burden is light." 00:21:12.17\00:21:15.10 He's a wonderful God and you can trust Him. 00:21:15.77\00:21:18.27 Phil 4:6-7, it says, "Be anxious for nothing, 00:21:18.37\00:21:22.34 but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, 00:21:22.38\00:21:25.11 let your requests be made known to God; 00:21:25.15\00:21:27.32 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding..." 00:21:27.35\00:21:30.65 Sometimes you can't even comprehend it. 00:21:30.79\00:21:32.45 "...will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." 00:21:32.72\00:21:35.79 We have this hope, we have this beautiful, beautiful promise. 00:21:35.82\00:21:38.79 And of course, I end with this one. 00:21:38.83\00:21:40.73 God's care brings hope. 00:21:40.76\00:21:42.76 His care brings hope. I love this. 00:21:42.80\00:21:45.00 Phil 1:6, "...being confident of this very thing, 00:21:45.03\00:21:47.77 that He who has begun a good work in you 00:21:47.80\00:21:49.67 will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." 00:21:49.70\00:21:52.31 Sometimes you may go through some stuff in this life. 00:21:52.34\00:21:54.84 Sometimes, again like I said multiple times already, 00:21:54.88\00:21:57.68 you may fall into various trials and difficulties that 00:21:57.71\00:22:00.78 may at times make you wonder, "Lord, where are You?" 00:22:00.82\00:22:02.98 Do You even hear me? Are You there?" 00:22:03.02\00:22:04.42 We see that in the psalms, we've seen it so far. 00:22:04.45\00:22:06.52 There are many psalms dedicated to the fact that even 00:22:06.55\00:22:08.79 God's very servants are there crying out 00:22:08.82\00:22:11.43 and lamenting, "Lord, do You even hear me? 00:22:11.46\00:22:13.70 Do You care for me?" 00:22:13.73\00:22:15.06 But yet we still have the promise. 00:22:15.10\00:22:16.43 God says, "Look, if there's evidence that I've worked 00:22:16.46\00:22:17.80 in your life, if there's evidence that I am here 00:22:17.83\00:22:19.83 in your life and I'm working in your life, 00:22:19.87\00:22:21.50 be confident in the fact that if I've started it, 00:22:21.64\00:22:23.81 I'm going to complete it, 00:22:23.84\00:22:25.17 all the way to the end of Jesus Christ." 00:22:25.21\00:22:26.71 And of course, Rev 21:4-5. 00:22:26.74\00:22:29.01 We have hope in the fact that in God's care, 00:22:29.04\00:22:31.41 the ultimate hope of all, that none of these trials, 00:22:31.45\00:22:34.78 none of these difficulties, none of these tribulations 00:22:34.82\00:22:37.22 that we deal with and go through in this lifetime 00:22:37.25\00:22:39.45 are everlasting. 00:22:39.49\00:22:40.96 Because it says here in Rev 21:4-5, 00:22:40.99\00:22:43.63 "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." 00:22:43.66\00:22:45.86 There's coming a time when it's all going to go away. 00:22:45.89\00:22:48.20 "'There shall be no more death, there shall be no more sorrow, 00:22:48.23\00:22:50.67 nor crying, there shall be no more pain, 00:22:50.70\00:22:52.63 for the former things have passed away.' 00:22:52.67\00:22:54.97 Then He who sat on the throne said," 00:22:55.00\00:22:57.17 and I love these words, "Behold, I make all things new." 00:22:57.21\00:23:03.38 I'm looking forward to that time. 00:23:04.05\00:23:05.51 And as I was preparing this lesson, 00:23:05.71\00:23:07.28 going through all these beautiful text, 00:23:07.32\00:23:09.12 I couldn't help but think of that powerful hymn, 00:23:09.15\00:23:11.32 that beautiful classic hymn, 00:23:11.35\00:23:13.36 "Through days of toil when heart doth fail, 00:23:14.66\00:23:18.59 God will take care of you." 00:23:19.56\00:23:22.80 I love that. 00:23:22.86\00:23:24.20 "When dangers fierce your path assail, 00:23:24.27\00:23:28.60 God will take care of you." 00:23:29.04\00:23:32.91 And what's the chorus? 00:23:32.94\00:23:34.28 "God will take care of you, through every day, 00:23:34.31\00:23:40.95 o'er all the way. 00:23:40.98\00:23:43.65 He will take care of you. 00:23:43.69\00:23:48.89 God will take care of you." 00:23:49.06\00:23:53.56 It's not just a song, it's not just a hymn. 00:23:53.60\00:23:55.83 It's not just empty words. 00:23:55.86\00:23:57.37 They are promises that have been proven all through 00:23:57.73\00:24:01.17 since humanity has ever been. 00:24:01.47\00:24:03.17 Put your hand and trust in God. 00:24:03.57\00:24:05.24 He will take care of you. 00:24:05.27\00:24:06.94 Amen, amen. Praise the Lord. 00:24:06.98\00:24:09.34 Thank you very much. It's been a blessing. 00:24:09.54\00:24:11.41 And we hope you will stay by, 00:24:11.51\00:24:12.95 because more blessings are coming. 00:24:12.98\00:24:14.82 Ever wish you could study more deeply along with the 00:24:18.95\00:24:21.36 3ABN Sabbath School Panel members? 00:24:21.39\00:24:23.29 Well, now you can. 00:24:23.32\00:24:24.99 Just send an email request to ssp@3abn.org 00:24:25.33\00:24:29.23 and we'll email you the Sabbath School panelists notes 00:24:29.26\00:24:31.87 on a weekly basis to enhance you're own study of God's Word. 00:24:31.90\00:24:35.20 That address again is.. 00:24:35.24\00:24:36.57 We'd love to send you their notes 00:24:39.11\00:24:40.81 just as they prepared them. 00:24:40.84\00:24:42.31 Thank you for watching. 00:24:42.34\00:24:43.68 And thank you for being part of our 00:24:43.71\00:24:45.31 3ABN Sabbath School Panel family. 00:24:45.35\00:24:47.88 Welcome back. It's been a blessing so far. 00:24:49.88\00:24:51.95 And we look forward to more blessings as we continue 00:24:51.99\00:24:54.79 with sister Shelley Quinn. 00:24:54.82\00:24:56.16 Thank you so much, Johnny. 00:24:56.19\00:24:57.53 And thank you, our singer in Israel, Ryan. 00:24:57.56\00:25:00.43 I'm Shelley Quinn and I have Tuesday, 00:25:00.46\00:25:02.46 The Lord is a Refuge in Adversity. 00:25:02.50\00:25:06.50 I love the humility of God. 00:25:06.53\00:25:09.90 The more you study the Bible, the more you recognize 00:25:09.94\00:25:13.21 His divine humility. 00:25:13.41\00:25:15.74 And in loving condescension, God actually likens Himself 00:25:15.78\00:25:22.28 to an eagle that's hovering over its nest. 00:25:22.32\00:25:25.69 Or to a mother hen who wants to gather His children 00:25:25.72\00:25:29.49 under His protective wings. 00:25:29.52\00:25:30.86 Listen to this, Exodus 19:4-5. 00:25:30.89\00:25:33.76 This is when the Israelites had finally after three months 00:25:33.80\00:25:37.53 reached Mount Sinai. 00:25:37.57\00:25:39.03 They had not cleansed themselves yet. 00:25:39.07\00:25:41.47 They had not heard the ten commandments yet 00:25:41.50\00:25:43.71 from God speaking them to them. 00:25:43.74\00:25:46.34 But Exodus 19:4-5, God tells Moses, 00:25:46.37\00:25:51.61 He says, "Go tell the children, 'You have seen what I did 00:25:51.65\00:25:55.42 to the Egyptians, how I bore you on eagle's wings 00:25:55.45\00:25:59.85 and I brought you to Myself.'" 00:25:59.89\00:26:02.16 That is covenant love language. 00:26:02.32\00:26:05.49 "Now, therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice 00:26:05.53\00:26:07.90 and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure 00:26:07.93\00:26:11.97 to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine." 00:26:12.00\00:26:16.71 In Deu 32:11-12, He says, "As an eagle stirs up its nest, 00:26:16.74\00:26:23.98 and hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, 00:26:24.01\00:26:28.78 taking them up, and carrying them on its wings, 00:26:28.82\00:26:32.82 so the Lord alone led him..." 00:26:33.12\00:26:36.73 What I love about when we were in the psalms, 00:26:37.03\00:26:40.33 you're going to hear about the feathers and the pinions, 00:26:40.36\00:26:43.10 and being under the wings. 00:26:43.13\00:26:45.20 This is all reference to God's protection. 00:26:45.23\00:26:47.84 Let's look at Psalm 91. Oh, this is a great psalm. 00:26:47.87\00:26:53.48 There are 18 promises of divine protection 00:26:53.51\00:27:00.15 in this psalm. 00:27:00.18\00:27:01.52 But I'm going to tell you up front, and pay attention, 00:27:01.55\00:27:04.55 they only apply to those who abide in the secret place. 00:27:04.99\00:27:11.89 Let's look. 00:27:11.93\00:27:13.26 Ps 91:1, "He who dwells..." Where? 00:27:13.76\00:27:18.77 "...in the secret place of the Most High..." 00:27:18.80\00:27:22.40 This isn't a place that's not known. 00:27:22.60\00:27:25.24 It's just not common to dwell there. 00:27:25.27\00:27:27.71 This is a close intimacy, having a relationship 00:27:27.74\00:27:32.85 of close intimacy through the Messiah, 00:27:32.88\00:27:37.22 and you're biding in that relationship. 00:27:37.25\00:27:41.59 "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High 00:27:41.92\00:27:45.23 shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." 00:27:45.26\00:27:52.17 Notice the abiding. 00:27:52.20\00:27:53.90 You're dwelling there. 00:27:54.74\00:27:56.34 It's constant, it's continuous. 00:27:56.37\00:27:58.77 It's not just during times of trouble. 00:27:58.81\00:28:01.94 See, we've got to know that God's ways are perfect. 00:28:02.31\00:28:07.45 That we can trust Him. 00:28:07.48\00:28:09.12 We've got to know that He's sovereign. 00:28:09.15\00:28:11.75 Anything that comes into our life, God doesn't 00:28:11.79\00:28:14.29 cause the trouble. 00:28:14.32\00:28:16.06 But He allows it sometimes for a specific reason. 00:28:16.26\00:28:20.00 It's for our eternal benefit. 00:28:20.03\00:28:22.20 So these promises are conditional on abiding 00:28:22.46\00:28:27.87 in this relationship with Him. 00:28:28.20\00:28:30.34 "I will say of the Lord..." Here is the psalmist. 00:28:30.37\00:28:33.98 "He is my refuge, my fortress; my God, in whom I will trust." 00:28:34.01\00:28:42.28 Can you say that? 00:28:42.68\00:28:44.02 He's my refuge. 00:28:44.05\00:28:47.36 "My God, in whom I will trust." 00:28:47.39\00:28:51.03 You know, He's the only one that can be trusted 00:28:51.96\00:28:55.16 in times of trouble. 00:28:55.20\00:28:56.53 That's a frequent theme throughout the psalms. 00:28:56.56\00:28:59.33 So we're going to see if we abide in the secret place, 00:28:59.70\00:29:07.38 we have to trust in the Lord. 00:29:08.08\00:29:11.41 And trust is a deliberate choice. 00:29:11.98\00:29:16.89 It's a deliberate choice to acknowledge God's sovereignty 00:29:17.39\00:29:22.82 over us in all circumstances. 00:29:22.86\00:29:25.66 And what does the quarterly bring out? 00:29:25.86\00:29:27.80 If trust does not work in adversity, 00:29:27.83\00:29:32.13 it's not going to work anywhere. 00:29:32.17\00:29:33.97 So verse 3, "Surely He shall deliver you from the 00:29:34.30\00:29:38.57 snare of the fowler..." 00:29:38.71\00:29:40.31 This is Satan's snares. 00:29:40.34\00:29:42.28 He's trying to entrap you. 00:29:42.31\00:29:45.01 "...and from the perilous pestilence. 00:29:45.48\00:29:47.48 He shall cover you with His feathers, 00:29:47.52\00:29:50.05 and under His wings you shall take refuge." 00:29:50.09\00:29:54.62 This is an intimate picture of God's protection 00:29:54.66\00:29:58.66 and security that we find in Him. 00:29:58.69\00:30:01.26 "His truth shall be your shield and buckler." 00:30:01.56\00:30:04.83 That's the shield of faith. 00:30:04.87\00:30:06.87 And the buckler was the coat of mail that protected the body. 00:30:06.90\00:30:11.77 This is the armor of God. 00:30:11.81\00:30:13.61 "You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, 00:30:13.64\00:30:16.01 nor of the arrow that flies by day, 00:30:16.04\00:30:18.71 nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, 00:30:18.75\00:30:21.68 nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. 00:30:21.72\00:30:25.29 A thousand may fall at your side, 00:30:25.32\00:30:27.62 ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you." 00:30:27.66\00:30:32.53 Perhaps the psalmist was thinking back to the time of 00:30:32.56\00:30:36.00 the Passover night in Egypt. 00:30:36.03\00:30:38.83 But verse 8 says, "Only with your eyes shall you look, 00:30:39.10\00:30:44.51 and see the reward of the wicked." 00:30:44.94\00:30:47.01 We're going to be like a spectator. 00:30:47.04\00:30:49.61 When that judgment is poured out, we will look. 00:30:49.71\00:30:52.58 But then here we go. 00:30:52.61\00:30:54.95 Verse 9 connects back to verse 1. 00:30:54.98\00:30:58.65 It says, "Because..." 00:30:59.49\00:31:02.19 You get all of these divine promises, "Because you have 00:31:02.22\00:31:05.46 made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, 00:31:05.49\00:31:10.57 your dwelling place..." 00:31:10.77\00:31:13.30 You're abiding in the secret place of the Lord. 00:31:13.50\00:31:16.17 "...no evil shall befall you, 00:31:16.20\00:31:17.94 nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 00:31:17.97\00:31:20.38 for He shall give His angels charge over you, 00:31:20.41\00:31:23.45 to keep you in all your ways. 00:31:23.48\00:31:25.75 In their hands they shall bear you up, 00:31:25.78\00:31:28.48 lest you dash your foot against a stone. 00:31:28.52\00:31:35.99 You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, 00:31:36.02\00:31:38.46 the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot." 00:31:38.49\00:31:43.06 So far we're hearing the psalmist's words. 00:31:43.40\00:31:46.10 Now the Lord speaks and makes a pledge. 00:31:46.57\00:31:51.21 And this is Ps 91:14. 00:31:51.24\00:31:54.81 "Because he has set his love upon Me," the Lord says, 00:31:55.14\00:32:01.08 "therefore I will deliver him; 00:32:01.72\00:32:03.89 I will set him on high, because he has known My name." 00:32:04.09\00:32:08.42 Do you know, God created you for a love relationship with Him. 00:32:08.46\00:32:14.23 That's what He's looking for. 00:32:14.43\00:32:16.26 And when you understand what He did for you, 00:32:16.56\00:32:21.97 to save you, when you understand His unconditional love, 00:32:22.00\00:32:27.38 I promise you, you can't help but fall in love with Him. 00:32:27.41\00:32:30.75 We love Him because He first loved us. 00:32:30.78\00:32:34.05 And then you'll call upon Him. 00:32:34.08\00:32:36.25 He says, verse 15, "He shall call upon Me, 00:32:36.28\00:32:39.52 and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble." 00:32:39.55\00:32:47.26 Like you were saying, Ryan. 00:32:48.30\00:32:49.63 No promise that there's not going to be trouble. 00:32:49.66\00:32:53.13 Jesus said, in this world we'll have many tribulations. 00:32:53.17\00:32:57.67 So when you become a Christian and you love the Lord, and 00:32:57.71\00:33:02.28 you dwell in the most secret place, 00:33:02.31\00:33:04.31 it doesn't mean that your life is carefree. 00:33:04.35\00:33:07.28 You can ask anybody up here, we could spend hours 00:33:07.32\00:33:10.85 talking about what's going on in our lives that are difficult. 00:33:10.89\00:33:14.39 But the promise of God is that, "I will be with you in trouble." 00:33:14.42\00:33:19.39 "I will deliver him and honor him. 00:33:19.43\00:33:21.56 With long life I will satisfy him, 00:33:21.60\00:33:25.63 and show him My salvation." 00:33:25.83\00:33:27.87 If you look to the Lord and love Him, 00:33:27.90\00:33:32.11 we know that we're going to go through this great controversy, 00:33:32.51\00:33:36.95 we're going to go through times of tribulation. 00:33:36.98\00:33:39.78 But He promises to protect those who dwell in the secret place. 00:33:39.81\00:33:44.29 Let me get on to Ps 17:5-9, because I love this too. 00:33:44.32\00:33:48.46 Ps 17:5, he says, "Uphold my steps in Your paths..." 00:33:48.49\00:33:57.33 You know, Ps 85:13 says that righteousness goes before Christ 00:33:57.83\00:34:03.41 and makes His path, His steps, a place for us to follow. 00:34:03.44\00:34:09.81 So he says, "Uphold my steps in Your path, 00:34:10.01\00:34:12.48 that my footsteps may not slip." 00:34:12.51\00:34:15.12 Again, Ps 17:5-9. 00:34:15.15\00:34:19.25 "I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; 00:34:19.29\00:34:21.76 incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. 00:34:21.96\00:34:25.03 Show Your marvelous loving kindness by Your right hand, 00:34:25.06\00:34:31.83 O You who save those who trust in You 00:34:31.87\00:34:37.07 from those who rise up against them. 00:34:37.11\00:34:39.71 Keep me as the apple of Your eye; 00:34:40.04\00:34:43.61 hide me under the shadow of Your wings..." 00:34:43.65\00:34:47.42 Peter says we're called to an incorruptible inheritance. 00:34:52.12\00:34:57.89 And he says it's "reserved in heaven for you," 00:34:57.93\00:35:02.60 and you are "kept by the power of God 00:35:02.63\00:35:05.87 through faith for salvation 00:35:05.90\00:35:08.24 ready to be revealed at the end." 00:35:08.27\00:35:10.97 God is our refuge in adversity. 00:35:11.01\00:35:14.48 Amen, amen. Yes He is. 00:35:14.51\00:35:15.91 Thank you, Shelley. 00:35:15.94\00:35:17.28 Psalm 91, lots of people love Psalm 91. 00:35:17.31\00:35:20.15 But the psalm that I'm focusing on, I'm Daniel Perrin 00:35:20.35\00:35:23.08 and I have Wednesday's lesson, Defender and Deliverer, 00:35:23.12\00:35:26.15 maybe you don't know this one very well. 00:35:26.19\00:35:28.72 So if you are able to, get your Bible out and open it up 00:35:28.76\00:35:32.03 to Psalm 114. 00:35:32.06\00:35:34.50 And if you would like to get a head start, put a little 00:35:34.53\00:35:36.56 bookmark in 1 Corinthians 10 because we're going to there 00:35:36.60\00:35:39.77 in just a little bit. 00:35:39.87\00:35:41.20 Isn't it amazing how a song, just a song, can bring you 00:35:41.34\00:35:45.71 back in time. 00:35:45.74\00:35:47.08 You hear just a couple of notes, and all of a sudden 00:35:47.44\00:35:49.88 you're back at your wedding, or some childhood event. 00:35:49.91\00:35:53.92 Or you're taken to church in your mind. 00:35:53.95\00:35:56.42 Or you hear the national anthem, whatever it might be, 00:35:56.62\00:35:59.79 and all of a sudden feelings come up. 00:35:59.82\00:36:02.26 Well Psalm 114 is one of those psalms. 00:36:02.82\00:36:06.73 Listen to it; I don't know the music, but 00:36:06.76\00:36:08.13 here's the psalm. 00:36:08.16\00:36:09.50 "When Israel went out of Egypt..." 00:36:09.93\00:36:12.77 And all of a sudden people are taken back in time 00:36:13.20\00:36:17.47 to an event of the past. 00:36:17.51\00:36:19.27 And you look at this psalm here, Psalm 114, just eight verses, 00:36:19.47\00:36:23.78 in the Hebrew language it's just 52 words, 00:36:23.81\00:36:27.38 such a sparse picture of the exodus that's painted here. 00:36:27.42\00:36:31.82 This is actually a psalm that was sang during 00:36:31.85\00:36:33.89 the Passover experience. 00:36:33.92\00:36:35.69 One of the Passover praises. 00:36:35.99\00:36:37.96 There's all sorts of more comprehensive telling's of 00:36:38.26\00:36:41.00 Israel's history, but this one just takes a couple of 00:36:41.03\00:36:44.03 little details, and it just tells them so plainly. 00:36:44.07\00:36:47.54 It's not like a video montage of music overlaid with pictures. 00:36:47.57\00:36:52.21 It just says, here's what happened. 00:36:52.24\00:36:54.74 And people are pulled back into this event. 00:36:54.94\00:36:57.55 So what is this event? 00:36:57.95\00:36:59.38 Well, we ask God, we say, "Lord, show me Your glory." 00:37:00.72\00:37:04.09 He says, "Here's what I'm going to do for you. 00:37:04.12\00:37:05.75 I'm going to remind you of what I've already done." 00:37:05.95\00:37:08.82 And as Shelley already pointed out, 00:37:08.86\00:37:10.36 God had done that from the start 00:37:10.56\00:37:12.13 there in Ex 19:4 when they're fresh out of this experience 00:37:12.16\00:37:17.40 of the exodus, and He says, "You've seen what I did 00:37:17.43\00:37:19.93 to the Egyptians, how I bore you on eagle's wings 00:37:19.97\00:37:24.14 and I brought you to Myself." 00:37:24.17\00:37:26.11 "Look at this intimate experience. 00:37:26.41\00:37:28.24 Remember your relationship with Me. 00:37:28.28\00:37:30.15 Don't forget that relationship." 00:37:30.18\00:37:32.65 And so this remembering that God calls us to in this song here, 00:37:33.18\00:37:37.25 it's more than just a mental exercise. 00:37:37.29\00:37:40.16 When Israel went out of Egypt. 00:37:40.19\00:37:42.09 No, this is like me saying to my wife, 00:37:42.36\00:37:44.79 "Remember the day that our first daughter was born?" 00:37:44.83\00:37:47.60 Oh man, and all sorts of stuff comes to mind. 00:37:47.90\00:37:51.63 And that's what God is saying here. 00:37:51.67\00:37:53.13 Transported back, re-experiencing 00:37:53.17\00:37:56.30 what God has done. 00:37:56.34\00:37:57.67 That's what He's asking us to do here. 00:37:57.71\00:37:59.14 And so for the people of Israel, they're remembering the 00:37:59.44\00:38:02.04 sands of Egypt, and the monuments that they 00:38:02.08\00:38:04.75 may have built with their own hands, 00:38:04.78\00:38:06.48 and the skies and the temperatures, and the bitterness 00:38:06.51\00:38:10.19 of the slavery. 00:38:10.22\00:38:11.55 "And then God remembered us and sent a deliverer." 00:38:11.99\00:38:14.79 And there were plagues, and deliverance, 00:38:14.82\00:38:17.03 and the Passover. 00:38:17.06\00:38:18.39 All of that comes back to mind. 00:38:18.43\00:38:20.73 And they begin to think about this God who loves them. 00:38:20.76\00:38:24.13 You might be saying to yourself, "Well the exodus, that's such 00:38:24.73\00:38:28.50 a distant memory, and I wasn't even there." 00:38:28.54\00:38:31.21 Now go to 1 Corinthians 10. 00:38:32.41\00:38:34.58 Alright verses 1 to 4. 00:38:35.38\00:38:37.35 And just verse 1 right off the bat. 00:38:37.38\00:38:39.11 "Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware 00:38:39.45\00:38:42.78 that all our fathers were under the cloud, 00:38:42.82\00:38:46.19 all passed through the sea..." 00:38:46.22\00:38:48.62 Paul is talking here to Jewish Christians 00:38:49.09\00:38:51.76 and to Gentile converts who have no Jewish heritage. 00:38:51.79\00:38:57.17 And he calls them, "our fathers." 00:38:57.20\00:39:00.84 This is their history, 00:39:01.30\00:39:02.80 this is our history, this is your history. 00:39:02.84\00:39:06.98 This is not just dusty, distant memories of other people. 00:39:07.01\00:39:11.18 This is my memory book, my scrapbook, 00:39:11.21\00:39:14.25 my photo album. 00:39:14.28\00:39:15.68 This is my story of how God has brought me to the place 00:39:15.72\00:39:19.49 where I am today. 00:39:19.52\00:39:20.89 So this story of the exodus, it's more than just an account 00:39:21.09\00:39:24.49 of other people. 00:39:24.63\00:39:25.96 This is such an important point because we often times look 00:39:25.99\00:39:29.06 at the Bible as archives of other people's experiences. 00:39:29.10\00:39:33.13 But they are our experiences with Christ. 00:39:33.17\00:39:36.50 We sometimes look at this like a history class. 00:39:37.74\00:39:39.71 Yeah alright, we'll laugh at what they did, 00:39:39.74\00:39:42.18 we'll look at the dates, some history factoids. 00:39:42.21\00:39:44.71 But no, this is me and Jesus. 00:39:44.75\00:39:46.88 And so we need to change the way that 00:39:46.92\00:39:49.28 we look at the Bible sometimes. 00:39:49.32\00:39:50.65 These stories are indispensable, like my birthday, 00:39:50.72\00:39:54.46 like my wedding day, like my first day at work. 00:39:54.49\00:39:56.89 Now keep on going. 00:39:56.93\00:39:58.26 I'm going to go down to verse 3 in 1 Corinthians 10. 00:39:58.29\00:40:00.70 "...all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea..." 00:40:00.73\00:40:04.60 So that was verse 2. Now we're in verse 3. 00:40:05.07\00:40:07.40 "All ate the same spiritual food, 00:40:07.44\00:40:09.30 and all drank the same spiritual drink. 00:40:09.34\00:40:11.64 For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, 00:40:11.67\00:40:14.54 and that Rock was Christ. 00:40:14.58\00:40:17.45 They were not just traveling. 00:40:17.48\00:40:19.71 They were there to meet Jesus. 00:40:19.75\00:40:22.48 This is the story of Jesus. 00:40:22.52\00:40:24.69 This is the gospels. 00:40:24.72\00:40:27.22 Is there any part of the gospels, 00:40:27.42\00:40:28.89 Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, that are dispensable that 00:40:28.92\00:40:31.96 we can get rid of that part? 00:40:31.99\00:40:33.60 No, it's all precious. It's all intentional. 00:40:33.63\00:40:36.43 All of the gospels are a treasure. 00:40:36.46\00:40:38.50 And the Old Testament stories are the gospels 00:40:38.53\00:40:41.54 written in advance. 00:40:41.57\00:40:43.17 It is the story of Jesus. 00:40:43.20\00:40:45.07 And so, right here in Psalm 114, we have the story of Jesus. 00:40:45.11\00:40:50.15 When Israel went out of Egypt, when they were in bondage, 00:40:50.98\00:40:55.78 when sin had them oppressed, when they could not get out, 00:40:55.82\00:40:59.29 when they needed to be purged of all the influences 00:40:59.32\00:41:01.99 of sin that had grown into them, that had overtaken them, 00:41:02.02\00:41:05.79 a deliverer was sent. 00:41:05.83\00:41:07.60 And as they sing just the first notes of this song, 00:41:07.63\00:41:10.27 they're pointed forward to the full story. 00:41:10.30\00:41:13.47 This is the story of your experience with Jesus. 00:41:13.50\00:41:16.14 And it's also a window into our condition. 00:41:16.17\00:41:19.27 We find this theme all through the Bible. 00:41:19.31\00:41:21.74 Abraham was called out of Ur, 00:41:21.94\00:41:24.78 Joseph brought out, rescued in Egypt, 00:41:24.98\00:41:29.28 you have the people of Judah brought out of Persia. 00:41:29.32\00:41:33.05 Listen to a couple of these texts in John 8:34-36. 00:41:33.09\00:41:36.93 You're going to find the story of Psalm 114 here. 00:41:36.96\00:41:39.56 "Jesus answered them, 'Most assuredly I say to you, 00:41:39.59\00:41:42.63 whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 00:41:42.66\00:41:45.13 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, 00:41:45.17\00:41:48.04 but a son abides forever. 00:41:48.07\00:41:50.01 Therefore if the Son makes you free..." 00:41:50.04\00:41:53.17 This is the story of the exodus. 00:41:53.21\00:41:55.18 "...you shall be free indeed." 00:41:55.21\00:41:57.55 Col 1:13-14, "He has delivered us from the power of darkness 00:41:58.01\00:42:03.52 and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 00:42:03.55\00:42:09.46 in whom we have redemption..." 00:42:09.49\00:42:11.06 That's the story of the exodus. 00:42:11.39\00:42:13.16 So now back to Psalm 114. 00:42:13.36\00:42:15.86 Remember, this is our heritage, it's our history. 00:42:16.16\00:42:19.30 And we're going to see nature personified, 00:42:19.33\00:42:21.24 as if all of nature that God created is joyfully 00:42:21.27\00:42:24.27 involved in the experience of saying, "I want to bring you 00:42:24.31\00:42:27.38 out from sin." 00:42:27.41\00:42:28.74 Verse 3, "The sea saw it and fled; Jordan turned back." 00:42:28.78\00:42:34.25 Those were the two obstacles that were uncrossable there. 00:42:34.28\00:42:37.05 "The mountains skipped like rams, 00:42:37.09\00:42:39.29 the little hills like lambs." 00:42:39.32\00:42:41.12 And the imaginative ones of us are taking this literally, 00:42:41.16\00:42:43.56 watching mountains fly away. 00:42:43.59\00:42:45.59 But really, this is the shaking of the mountain. 00:42:45.63\00:42:48.00 The earthquake as God descends upon Mount Sinai 00:42:48.03\00:42:50.93 and says, "Let Me truly rescue you by showing you 00:42:50.97\00:42:53.57 My character and who I am. 00:42:53.60\00:42:55.10 Here is the law, the transcript of who I am." 00:42:55.14\00:42:58.41 And so, we see all of this happening here, 00:42:58.61\00:43:00.78 and the message for us. 00:43:00.81\00:43:02.14 Verses 5 and 6, we've got to get to that. 00:43:02.18\00:43:04.35 "What ails you, O sea, that you fled?
