Abraham is a great example to us

Abraham's obedience
was his pathway to blessing

Obedience is the
highest expression of worship

of the land of Canaan

wife who's ten years younger,

the covenant with Abraham

The name Abraham
literally means: Exalted Father

got no descendants yet has he?

Genesis 15: The
Faith of Abraham.

Let's look at
Genesis 15:1 through 4,

this is one of my favorite
chapters in the whole Bible,

Genesis 15, "After these things

the word of the Lord came
to Abram in a vision, saying,

'Do not be afraid, Abram.
00:08:30.97\00:08:33.54
I am your shield, your
exceedingly great reward. '
00:08:33.58\00:08:37.15
But Abram, said, 'Lord
God, what will You give me
00:08:37.18\00:08:42.85
seeing I go childless,
00:08:42.88\00:08:44.22
and the heir of my house
is Eliezer of Damascus?'"
00:08:44.25\00:08:49.02
This was his male servant.
00:08:49.06\00:08:50.69
"Then Abram said, 'Look,
you've given me no offspring;

indeed one born in
my house is my heir!'

And behold, the word of
the Lord came to him, saying,

'This one shall
not be your heir,

come from your own body

Now, notice this because
sometimes we forget this.

So, I think that explains

"S" which is Jesus Christ.

posterity on the earth,

says, "Then He... " God

'Now look toward the heaven,

and count the stars if
you are able to number them. '

And He said to him,

'So shall your
descendants be. '"

Interesting... Genesis 13,

He is calling them
the dust of the earth...

now, he's... it's
a repeat and enlarge

and He's saying,
"Look at the stars,

this is how your
descendants will be. "

You know, I had this thought...

I don't know if
it's true or not,

but dust of the earth could
have been his fleshly heirs

and the stars...
the spiritual Israel...

I don't know but anyway,
it was an interesting thought.

Galatians 3:7 says,
"Those who walk in faith,

are the true
children of Abraham. "

So, we get in Genesis 17,

and God changes
Abram's name to Abraham.

which means: The
father of many nations

and at this point, God
is showing His covenant

of righteousness by faith

is not just for this
nation of physical descendants

but that Abraham would be
the father of many nations...

God's covenant is universal.

But now, we're really getting
into the progressive unfolding

of God's covenant.

In Genesis 15:6, it says this,

"Abraham believed in the LORD,
00:11:15.40\00:11:18.61
and He... God... accounted
it to him for righteousness. "

You know, to believe God means
that we accept in obedience
00:11:24.71\00:11:30.72
His plan... if you
believe God, you accept His plan
00:11:30.75\00:11:36.19
and walk-in obedience,
so, righteousness by faith

includes obedience
by grace through faith.

And from the time that
God introduced the covenant,

him out, Abraham was 75...

for the covenant son of
promise to come... Isaac.

reaffirms the covenant

God is going to ratify

the covenant of salvation
by grace through faith...

Abraham slaughters
the clean animals...

a heifer and female goat

and a ram and he splits them...

And in verse 17 it
says, "And it came to pass,

appeared a smoking oven

passed between those pieces. "

"Now Sarai, Abram's wife,
had borne him no children.

And she had an
Egyptian maidservant

whose name was Hagar. "

I want to pause here because the
Lord changed Abraham's name...

Abram's name to Abraham
and as you have already heard

he is father of many
nations which is interesting

because many years passed
after God made the promise

and time passes...
people begin to doubt...

"Is God going
to do this or not?"

Abraham... "What is your name?"

perhaps I shall
obtain children by her. '

And Abram heeded
the voice of Sarai. "

So, we see here
that neither one of them

tried to encourage
one another at this point.

who is going to
inherit the things that I have?
