is all about the memory text

so, let's just

it says, "Therefore
its name is called Babel,

because there the Lord confused
the language of all the earth;

Lord scattered them abroad

over the face
of all the earth. "

Now, the lesson starts out with
this paragraph of introduction,

"After the flood, the

on Ham, the father of Canaan

"Canaan," the Promised Land,

in anticipation of Abraham,

whose blessings

So, what we have here is
a culmination, if you will.

We've gone through
the... the plan of salvation

in the context of the
creation and the fall.

So, God starts
out with Adam and Eve.

They fall and God moves to
Cain and Abel and then Seth.

Seth's descendants mingle
with the children of men...

the sons of God compromising
their high calling in God

and so, then God brings
us to Noah and his family

family preach for a 120 years

so, God is basically
going from Adam and Eve...

that's the first try

and then He goes to Abel

Noah is faithful to God

but after the flood...
well there's some compromise

you can imagine the
devil and his angels

eight people to focus on...

how challenging that can
be and so, we see Noah...

things going on there

and then finally,
we hear about Abraham

and Abraham is going to be
the fourth and final attempt

that God is going to make
to bring forth the Seed...

Jesus Christ... and that's
really what it's all about.

It's all about Jesus...
we're focusing on Christ...

one through whose seed

Jesus Christ eventually
comes to this earth to rescue us

So, what are we supposed to
be looking for in all of this?

It says, "What was
supposed to be a blessing,

the birth of all nations,

becomes another
occasion for another curse.

The nations unite in order
to try to take God's place;

God responds in
judgments on them;

and, through the
resulting confusion,

the people get scattered
throughout the world...

thus fulfilling God's original
plan to 'fill the earth. '"

So, out of that
confusion finally comes Abraham.

So, we've gone
through these four stages,

Adam and Eve...

then Noah and his sons...

and finally, Abraham is
going to come out of all of this

spite of human wickedness,

God turns evil into good;

work together for good

according to His purpose.

So, we can trust God that
He is going to bring out good

even out of our mistakes
and out of our failures.

Not that He wants us to
make mistakes and failures

because, when we
fall... when we make mistakes...

the consequence to that

us not only from our failures

So, the curse of
Ham is Sunday's lesson

It's a strange story,

of this strange story?"

So, Genesis
chapter 9 verses 18 to 27,

but let me just paraphrase
what takes place here.

The sons of Noah
go forth from the ark,

Shem, Japheth and Ham

and as they go forth and begin
to spread over the world...

Noah begins to be an
husbandman, he plants a vineyard

and he drinks of the vineyard

and ends up
being drunk in his tent
00:07:06.02\00:07:09.16
and it says here
in verses 21 and 22,

that when he was drunken
in his tent, he was uncovered
00:07:12.33\00:07:15.56
and it says in verse 22
that Ham the father of Canaan
00:07:15.60\00:07:18.80
saw the nakedness of his father
00:07:18.83\00:07:20.74
and told his
two brethren without
00:07:20.77\00:07:22.60
and so, then the two
brethren, Shem and Japheth...

they took a garment and
they laid it on their shoulders

and they went in backwards.

So, they didn't see the
nakedness of their father,

they went in backwards

and they covered the
nakedness of their father,

and when Noah woke in verse 24,

he knew what the
younger son had done to him

and he said, "Cursed be Canaan;

a servant of servants
shall he be unto his brethren.

and Canaan shall be his servant

and God shall enlarge Japheth

So, it's a
strange story in a sense

and I know there's
been a lot of ideas

about what was it that happened,

what was this terrible
thing that happened in this tent

with Ham because
basically, Noah cursed him

and people will come
up with all kinds of ideas

and primarily because
you know the curse was so bad

and the other
brothers, you know,
00:08:17.56\00:08:18.89
refused to do
whatever it was that he did

and... and you get this idea

that there was some kind of
immorality that took place there

I think the

that all have sinned and have
come short of the glory of God,

the glory of God is a revelation
of His character of love

and the commandments,

are a revelation of
loving God with all our heart,

loving our neighbor as ourself.

The fulfillment of
the commandment is to love

the question right now

And we think, "Oh, you know,

we've forgotten
this fifth commandment.

preached for a 120 years...

and his brothers and their wives

and... and continue to
keep this whole earth or...

or whole survival alive.

all the different sins

and wickedness and immorality

that are alive
in the world today

and a lot of times, we go there
to talk about homosexuality

because it's outlined there
but we sometimes stop with that

and we don't go on to
let God describe to us

those who are
disobedient to parents...

that are the same category
as all this other immorality

and those who are
whisperers in the same category

as all of these other immorality

and how much whispering and
backbiting and... and gossiping

has damaged
families and churches

and communities and societies?

And a lot of times, of course,

today we call it:
misinformation, right?

truth of the matter is

but He's calling us to

but at the same
time, we want to be careful

how we talk about other people

faults that they may fall into.

So, I think it's a great lesson,
it's a great start for us.

between Ham... the curse
