" 00:02:23.74\00:02:25.51 Panel: Amen. 00:02:25.54\00:02:27.18 Jill: If you've been following week to week, 00:02:27.21\00:02:29.88 you know that last week we studied: The Fall. 00:02:29.91\00:02:32.05 We looked at the serpent 00:02:32.08\00:02:33.92 and the temptation that came to Eve and then to Adam. 00:02:33.95\00:02:37.19 We look at the entrance of sin 00:02:37.22\00:02:39.15 and the consequences of that sin... 00:02:39.22\00:02:41.96 the judgment that came from God 00:02:41.99\00:02:44.69 but then, the redemption and salvation that was offered 00:02:44.73\00:02:49.03 in that first Messianic promise in Genesis 3 verse 15. 00:02:49.06\00:02:53.34 This week, we'll look at Cain and his legacy. 00:02:53.37\00:02:55.74 Genesis chapter 4... 00:02:55.77\00:02:57.11 so, as we start out, I want to do a quick comparison 00:02:57.14\00:02:59.51 between Genesis 3 and Genesis 4. 00:02:59.54\00:03:02.34 You see several similarities between the two. 00:03:02.41\00:03:05.78 We see a description of sin in Genesis 3. 00:03:05.81\00:03:08.88 Eve coveted the fruit... did she not? 00:03:08.92\00:03:11.89 and she took of the fruit in direct violation 00:03:11.92\00:03:14.59 of God's command. 00:03:14.62\00:03:15.96 Adam and Eve experienced fear and guilt 00:03:15.99\00:03:18.89 as Pastor Johnny brought out so clearly last week in our lesson. 00:03:18.93\00:03:22.46 If we look at the description of sin in Genesis chapter 4, 00:03:22.50\00:03:26.74 we see that Cain becomes angry with God and then his brother 00:03:26.77\00:03:30.94 and enough to murder his brother, Abel. 00:03:30.97\00:03:34.11 We'll study that this week. 00:03:34.18\00:03:35.51 We see, also, God questioning those who have sinned. 00:03:35.54\00:03:39.98 In Genesis 3, He says to Adam, "Where are you? 00:03:40.02\00:03:43.55 Why did you hide yourself?" 00:03:43.59\00:03:45.85 In Genesis 4, God asks Cain, "Why are you angry?" 00:03:45.92\00:03:50.56 We also see the curse as a result of sin. 00:03:50.59\00:03:54.56 In Genesis 3, we saw that the serpent was cursed 00:03:54.60\00:03:57.17 and the ground was cursed. 00:03:57.20\00:03:59.13 In Genesis 4, we discover that Cain himself is cursed. 00:03:59.20\00:04:04.44 We see the expulsion in Genesis 3... 00:04:04.47\00:04:06.78 Shelley talked about it last week... 00:04:06.81\00:04:09.04 Adam and Eve being driven out from the Garden of Eden 00:04:09.08\00:04:12.91 so that they would never again have access to the Tree of Life 00:04:12.98\00:04:16.79 which would perpetuate life. 00:04:16.82\00:04:19.15 In Genesis 4, the same Hebrew word: Garash is used 00:04:19.19\00:04:23.19 in reference to Cain being driven out... 00:04:23.22\00:04:26.90 being disconnected from the ground. 00:04:26.93\00:04:29.30 We see the progression of sin. 00:04:29.33\00:04:31.33 In Genesis 3... there's perfection 00:04:31.40\00:04:33.87 and then sin enters 00:04:33.90\00:04:35.80 and we see them partaking of the fruit. 00:04:35.87\00:04:38.31 By the time we get to Genesis 4, 00:04:38.34\00:04:40.28 it's not just eating fruit, is it? 00:04:40.31\00:04:42.24 It's killing people 00:04:42.28\00:04:43.68 and then, we get down to Lamech and we see that he even... 00:04:43.71\00:04:47.88 you could say, "Spits in God's face. " 00:04:47.95\00:04:50.25 He laughs in God's face. 00:04:50.29\00:04:52.02 So, you see this downward spiral from Genesis 3 to Genesis 4... 00:04:52.05\00:04:56.62 this progression of sin. 00:04:56.66\00:04:58.99 We see though in Genesis 3 and Genesis 4, 00:04:59.03\00:05:02.50 the promise of redemption... 00:05:02.53\00:05:04.10 the promise of hope that God does not leave this world 00:05:04.17\00:05:07.54 in the sinful mess that they created for themselves... 00:05:07.57\00:05:10.94 they chose to step into sin 00:05:10.97\00:05:12.31 but God doesn't leave them there. 00:05:12.34\00:05:13.78 We see Genesis 3:15 with that Messianic prophecy 00:05:13.81\00:05:17.91 and in Genesis 4, we see the birth of Cain 00:05:17.95\00:05:20.58 and we're going to discover that Eve thought... 00:05:20.62\00:05:23.12 maybe this would be the promised looked-for Messiah 00:05:23.15\00:05:25.62 and then she discovered it wasn't 00:05:25.65\00:05:27.49 but then we see the birth of Seth 00:05:27.52\00:05:29.26 and the righteous seed coming from him 00:05:29.29\00:05:33.13 and we see that there is still hope because God is at work 00:05:33.19\00:05:37.27 in people's hearts and lives. 00:05:37.30\00:05:38.83 Yes, there's free choice... 00:05:38.87\00:05:40.37 yes, we have a choice... do we want to follow Him or not 00:05:40.40\00:05:43.20 but for those who choose to follow Him... 00:05:43.24\00:05:46.01 for those who walk in repentance toward Him 00:05:46.04\00:05:48.78 that God is at work redemptively. 00:05:48.84\00:05:50.98 Let's look at our memory text... 00:05:51.01\00:05:53.11 we're in Genesis 4 verse 7 is our memory text. 00:05:53.15\00:05:56.32 "If you do well, will you not be accepted? 00:05:56.35\00:05:59.45 And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. 00:05:59.49\00:06:03.63 And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it. " 00:06:03.66\00:06:08.00 On Sunday's lesson, we look at Cain and Abel 00:06:08.03\00:06:10.67 and I have two verses 00:06:10.70\00:06:12.03 that's it... and I won't hopefully step on Shelley 00:06:12.07\00:06:14.80 because she has one of the verses I have too. 00:06:14.84\00:06:17.34 But all I have is Genesis 4 verses 1 and 2 00:06:17.37\00:06:19.84 and let's read those verses 00:06:19.87\00:06:21.21 and then we'll unpack it with only four takeaways today. 00:06:21.24\00:06:25.41 Genesis 4:1 and 2, 00:06:25.45\00:06:27.35 "Now Adam knew his wife, 00:06:27.38\00:06:29.72 and Adam knew Eve his wife, 00:06:29.75\00:06:31.99 and she conceived and bore Cain, 00:06:32.05\00:06:34.69 and said, "I have acquired a man from the Lord. " 00:06:34.72\00:06:38.39 Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. 00:06:38.43\00:06:42.03 Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, 00:06:42.06\00:06:44.90 but Cain... he was a tiller of the ground. " 00:06:44.93\00:06:49.07 The first event after the expulsion from Eden 00:06:49.10\00:06:53.24 was a birth. 00:06:53.27\00:06:54.61 If you read Genesis chapter 3 the very last verse... 00:06:54.64\00:06:57.55 Adam and Eve are cast out of the garden 00:06:57.58\00:06:59.51 and then we get to Genesis chapter 4 and we see a birth. 00:06:59.55\00:07:03.39 That's the first event that is mentioned here. 00:07:03.45\00:07:07.16 So, Takeaway Number 1 00:07:07.19\00:07:08.69 is that God always brings hope after judgment. 00:07:08.72\00:07:11.89 They could have thought... Adam and Eve... 00:07:11.96\00:07:15.10 that they were in despondency 00:07:15.13\00:07:17.57 and they were driven from the place they loved. 00:07:17.60\00:07:19.43 I can't even imagine being in their shoes. 00:07:19.47\00:07:22.37 Can you imagine never having seen a flower die? 00:07:22.40\00:07:25.01 Never watching leaves fall from the tree in the fall? 00:07:25.04\00:07:29.64 Never experiencing death of an animal or a person... 00:07:29.68\00:07:34.22 never seeing any of that. 00:07:34.25\00:07:35.68 I can't even imagine seeing perfection 00:07:35.72\00:07:38.42 and then seeing that perfection marred 00:07:38.45\00:07:41.09 and yet, after the judgment that was pronounced upon them, 00:07:41.12\00:07:45.76 the consequences of their own sin... 00:07:45.79\00:07:47.90 their own choice or free will. 00:07:47.93\00:07:49.50 God brings hope. 00:07:49.53\00:07:50.87 You see, we're never left in our sins 00:07:50.90\00:07:52.93 unless of course you or I choose to sit there. 00:07:52.97\00:07:55.57 We're never left in a place of judgment. 00:07:55.60\00:07:59.24 Psalm 30:5... I love it, 00:07:59.27\00:08:00.88 "For His anger is but for a moment... 00:08:00.94\00:08:02.54 weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. " 00:08:02.58\00:08:08.62 God brings hope after judgment. 00:08:08.65\00:08:10.99 Now, let's look at Eve's response... 00:08:11.02\00:08:12.89 it's very significant in Genesis 4 verse 1, 00:08:12.92\00:08:15.82 Eve's response after burying Cain. 00:08:15.86\00:08:18.13 What did she say? 00:08:18.16\00:08:19.93 "I have acquired a man from the LORD." 00:08:20.00\00:08:23.10 The literal translation... 00:08:23.13\00:08:25.10 the lesson brought this out very clearly. 00:08:25.13\00:08:27.00 The literal translation would be: 00:08:27.04\00:08:28.87 I have acquired a man... indeed the Lord Himself. 00:08:28.90\00:08:32.97 The word for "man" used there is linked with the word 00:08:33.01\00:08:37.05 for a Lord or Yahweh... Y H W H... Yahweh. 00:08:37.08\00:08:41.82 So, literally Eve thought 00:08:41.88\00:08:45.05 that this could be the promised Messiah. 00:08:45.09\00:08:47.22 She knew God had instructed Adam and Eve... Genesis 3:15, 00:08:47.26\00:08:52.59 they knew that Messianic promise... 00:08:52.66\00:08:54.13 they knew that the Messiah would come eventually 00:08:54.16\00:08:57.73 and so she has Cain and she thinks, 00:08:57.77\00:08:59.73 "Could he be the one... is he the one?" 00:08:59.77\00:09:01.74 Is he going to be the Messiah? 00:09:01.77\00:09:04.07 And Desire of Ages page 31 confirms this. 00:09:04.11\00:09:07.84 It says, "The Saviour's coming was foretold in Eden. 00:09:07.88\00:09:10.51 When Adam and Eve first heard the promise, 00:09:10.55\00:09:12.81 they looked for its speedy fulfillment. " 00:09:12.85\00:09:15.02 They thought it was going to happen right away. 00:09:15.05\00:09:17.55 "They joyfully welcomed their first-born son, 00:09:17.59\00:09:20.06 hoping that he might be the Deliverer. " 00:09:20.09\00:09:23.79 This leads us to Takeaway Number 2. 00:09:23.83\00:09:25.83 False hope and expectations leads to disappointment. 00:09:25.86\00:09:30.43 It leads to disillusionment. 00:09:30.47\00:09:32.47 It leads to discouragement. 00:09:32.53\00:09:34.47 I don't know if you are a parent 00:09:34.50\00:09:36.64 but if you are a parent and your child has walked away from God, 00:09:36.71\00:09:39.84 is that painful? 00:09:39.87\00:09:41.38 What about a parent... and your child's become a murderer? 00:09:41.41\00:09:45.25 With that be even more painful? 00:09:45.28\00:09:47.75 What about... if you are a parent 00:09:47.78\00:09:50.22 and you expected that child to be the Deliverer... 00:09:50.25\00:09:52.62 the coming One... the Messiah? 00:09:52.65\00:09:54.82 Maybe the Savior who would help you 00:09:54.86\00:09:57.26 and then, that child turns out to be a murderer? 00:09:57.29\00:10:00.66 Job 30:26, 00:10:00.70\00:10:02.53 "When I looked for good, evil came to me; 00:10:02.56\00:10:05.13 when I waited for light, then came darkness. " 00:10:05.17\00:10:08.90 I can't even imagine the disappointment that they felt 00:10:08.97\00:10:12.01 as we walk through the story 00:10:12.04\00:10:13.98 and discover that their son 00:10:14.01\00:10:15.84 that they thought maybe could be the promised One 00:10:15.88\00:10:18.28 became a murderer. 00:10:18.31\00:10:19.65 It's also interesting... 00:10:19.68\00:10:21.72 in this passage we see Eve's comparison with Cain and Abel. 00:10:21.75\00:10:26.42 So, she mentions Cain... 00:10:26.45\00:10:28.66 his name in the Hebrew means: to acquire. 00:10:28.72\00:10:31.99 It denotes the acquisition... 00:10:32.06\00:10:33.80 the possession of something precious and powerful 00:10:33.83\00:10:36.36 and we already established that she thought 00:10:36.40\00:10:38.13 this might have been the Messiah. 00:10:38.17\00:10:40.30 Abel's name by contrast means: vapour or breath. 00:10:40.34\00:10:44.47 It denotes elusiveness... emptiness... 00:10:44.51\00:10:48.54 lack of substance. 00:10:48.58\00:10:50.35 It's the same word used in Ecclesiastes for vanity. 00:10:50.41\00:10:53.58 All is vanity. 00:10:53.62\00:10:55.38 So, to me this is just Jill's mind working here. 00:10:55.42\00:10:58.65 Does that mean that Adam and Eve favored Cain over Abel? 00:10:58.69\00:11:01.92 We don't know that... 00:11:01.96\00:11:03.83 the Bible doesn't say whether they did or not. 00:11:03.86\00:11:06.19 It does say... it doesn't even mention... 00:11:06.23\00:11:08.20 it just says, "She bore again this time his brother Abel. " 00:11:08.23\00:11:10.67 There was nothing significant mentioned in the text. 00:11:10.70\00:11:13.74 We know Abraham and Sarah 00:11:13.77\00:11:15.74 clearly favored Isaac over Ishmael. 00:11:15.77\00:11:17.84 We know Rebecca clearly favored Jacob 00:11:17.87\00:11:20.48 and Esau... Isaac clearly favored Esau. 00:11:20.51\00:11:23.04 We know that Jacob favored Joseph and later Benjamin. 00:11:23.08\00:11:26.51 Could they have favored Cain 00:11:26.55\00:11:28.92 and if they did, would that lead them to regret? 00:11:28.95\00:11:31.75 These are just questions I ask in my own mind. 00:11:31.79\00:11:34.52 Takeaway Number 3: 00:11:34.56\00:11:35.96 Live today... so you don't have regrets tomorrow. 00:11:35.99\00:11:39.43 Shelley: Amen. 00:11:39.49\00:11:40.83 Jill: Finally, Takeaway number 4: 00:11:40.86\00:11:42.20 Make choices for God. 00:11:42.23\00:11:44.97 What are we supposed to choose? 00:11:45.03\00:11:46.77 I went through the Word of God 00:11:46.84\00:11:48.57 and just found some of the things 00:11:48.60\00:11:50.57 that we are offered choices in. 00:11:50.61\00:11:52.54 So, we're going to go very quickly 00:11:52.57\00:11:54.24 through quite a few different verses 00:11:54.28\00:11:55.94 and just look at the choices that God offers to us today. 00:11:55.98\00:11:59.68 Hebrews 3:15, "Today if you hear His voice, 00:11:59.71\00:12:02.55 do not harden your hearts. I have Monday's: 00:14:20.49\00:14:23.76 The Two Offerings 00:14:23.79\00:14:25.59 and I hope that we're going to put to rest 00:14:25.63\00:14:28.43 some of the... how can I say this? 00:14:28.46\00:14:32.03 there are arguments about this particular chapter 00:14:32.07\00:14:36.94 and... and they... people are... 00:14:36.97\00:14:39.47 what's the word that I'm looking for? 00:14:39.51\00:14:41.81 They cast a... misconceptions 00:14:41.84\00:14:43.95 but they are casting a shadow on the character of God. 00:14:43.98\00:14:46.31 So, we'll look at this. 00:14:46.35\00:14:47.68 What happens in Genesis 4? 00:14:47.72\00:14:49.28 This details the tragic results of the consequences of the fall. 00:14:49.32\00:14:54.76 Sin is not just growing... 00:14:54.79\00:14:57.59 it's metastasized like a cancer 00:14:57.63\00:14:59.96 and each descendant... I'm speaking to you today... 00:15:00.00\00:15:04.50 "Choose you this day whom you will serve. " 00:15:04.53\00:15:06.53 Each descendant of Adam and Eve must choose for themself 00:15:06.57\00:15:12.01 whether we are going to listen to God 00:15:12.04\00:15:14.91 or rebel against Him. 00:15:14.94\00:15:16.95 So, here we have these two sons in Genesis 4. 00:15:16.98\00:15:20.45 One acts in obedience and we're going to prove that 00:15:20.48\00:15:25.35 while the other acts in disdain and rebellion. 00:15:25.39\00:15:31.73 I think the human race can be divided into two groups. 00:15:31.76\00:15:37.20 There is the Godly who choose to obey God 00:15:37.27\00:15:40.84 and walk in obedience 00:15:40.87\00:15:42.60 and the ungodly who choose to reject Him 00:15:42.67\00:15:45.37 and foolishly do their own will. 00:15:45.41\00:15:50.38 What Cain... we're going to see how Cain rejects God 00:15:50.41\00:15:58.75 and his rejection starts a wicked generation 00:15:58.82\00:16:04.46 that lays these people's hearts toward evil all the time 00:16:04.49\00:16:09.36 and this lays the foundation for the destruction of the world 00:16:09.40\00:16:15.70 in the universal flood... so, let's go... 00:16:15.74\00:16:17.61 Genesis 4 verse 1, "Now Adam knew Eve his wife... " 00:16:17.64\00:16:22.58 this is... means that as a married couple, 00:16:22.61\00:16:26.01 they had sexual relations. 00:16:26.05\00:16:27.68 "She conceived and bore Cain, 00:16:27.72\00:16:29.32 'I have acquired a man from the LORD Himself. '" 00:16:29.35\00:16:33.05 As Jill said, she thought this Cain was the promised Seed... 00:16:33.09\00:16:38.69 the Deliverer... 00:16:38.76\00:16:40.53 "Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. 00:16:40.56\00:16:43.80 Abel was a keeper of the sheep, 00:16:43.83\00:16:46.57 but Cain was a tiller of the ground. " 00:16:46.60\00:16:49.90 Now, both were respectable occupations. 00:16:49.94\00:16:53.24 But now, notice verse 3, 00:16:53.27\00:16:55.34 "And in the process of time... " 00:16:55.38\00:16:58.15 I've just got to pause here... 00:16:58.18\00:17:00.88 remember what we've learned... 00:17:00.92\00:17:04.29 the first 11 chapters of Genesis 00:17:04.32\00:17:08.32 are a very condensed distillation 00:17:08.36\00:17:11.93 of the first 2,000 years of history. 00:17:11.99\00:17:14.76 Can you imagine somebody saying, 00:17:14.83\00:17:17.57 "Hey, I want you to write this history on the 2,000 years 00:17:17.60\00:17:20.60 of... of the earth 00:17:20.64\00:17:22.34 and you try to put it down into eleven chapters. " 00:17:22.40\00:17:26.41 So... so, in the process of time, 00:17:26.44\00:17:30.21 this is moving the narrative a long time after 00:17:30.25\00:17:36.62 the initial events in these first few verses. 00:17:36.65\00:17:40.56 Adam and Eve lived many generations, 00:17:40.59\00:17:44.79 they had multiple children. 00:17:44.83\00:17:47.23 He lived to be 930 years old. 00:17:47.26\00:17:49.63 So, the additional children in the process of time 00:17:49.66\00:17:55.30 that Adam and Eve had 00:17:55.37\00:17:57.24 account for the wife that Cain takes 00:17:57.27\00:18:01.21 and why he was afraid that he might be murdered 00:18:01.24\00:18:04.58 following the death of his brother. 00:18:04.61\00:18:07.18 So, the verse says, 00:18:07.22\00:18:08.68 verse 3... Genesis 4 verse 3, 00:18:08.72\00:18:11.69 "In the process of time it came to pass 00:18:11.72\00:18:15.42 that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground 00:18:15.46\00:18:18.03 to the LORD. 00:18:18.06\00:18:19.39 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock 00:18:19.43\00:18:22.10 and of their fat. 00:18:22.13\00:18:23.50 And the LORD respected Abel... " 00:18:23.53\00:18:27.64 He respected this animal sacrifice 00:18:27.67\00:18:31.74 but He did not respect Cain bringing Him 00:18:31.77\00:18:36.28 the fruit of the ground... 00:18:36.31\00:18:37.65 "and Cain was angry his countenance fell. " 00:18:37.68\00:18:41.42 So, let's look at the contrast between the two. 00:18:41.45\00:18:45.29 Cain was a tiller of the ground... 00:18:45.32\00:18:48.12 this required hard physical work 00:18:48.16\00:18:50.33 because the ground had been cursed. 00:18:50.36\00:18:54.00 Cain worked to acquire what he produced 00:18:54.03\00:18:57.63 and he just thought to himself, 00:18:57.67\00:19:00.24 "I'm going to bring an offering to the Lord 00:19:00.27\00:19:02.67 of what I've acquired. " 00:19:02.70\00:19:05.41 This is... you could say, "Salvation by works... " 00:19:05.44\00:19:07.94 Jill: Yeah. 00:19:08.01\00:19:09.34 Shelley: So, God didn't respect this offering. 00:19:09.38\00:19:12.78 Abel is a keeper of the sheep. 00:19:12.81\00:19:15.58 Now, wouldn't you think "keeper of the sheep" 00:19:15.62\00:19:18.49 you think somebody that's a little more compassionate 00:19:18.52\00:19:21.02 maybe sensitive... 00:19:21.06\00:19:22.66 he was careful to keep 00:19:22.69\00:19:26.33 that which he had received 00:19:26.36\00:19:29.96 but he brings the best of his flock to the Lord 00:19:30.00\00:19:33.47 and God respects it. 00:19:33.50\00:19:35.47 So, the question is: 00:19:35.50\00:19:37.41 "Why did God accept Abel's offering 00:19:37.44\00:19:41.68 and reject Cain's offering?" 00:19:41.71\00:19:43.75 I've heard all kinds of theories on this 00:19:43.78\00:19:46.45 but please listen to what I'm about to say. 00:19:46.51\00:19:50.69 The abbreviated narrative of Genesis... 00:19:50.72\00:19:53.22 the only way to understand Genesis 1 through 11 00:19:53.25\00:19:57.19 is by comparing it to passages of the rest of the Bible. 00:19:57.23\00:20:02.86 Even, I mean, Genesis 12 through 50 00:20:02.90\00:20:06.84 because... and let me give you an example. 00:20:06.87\00:20:08.64 In Genesis 22:2... here's... here's a perfect example 00:20:08.67\00:20:13.58 of what I'm about to tell you. 00:20:13.61\00:20:14.94 It has nothing to do with Cain and Abel 00:20:14.98\00:20:17.55 but it has... it's a parallel 00:20:17.58\00:20:19.05 of how we've got to understand the Bible. 00:20:19.08\00:20:21.38 In Genesis 22:2 God says to Abraham, 00:20:21.45\00:20:26.05 "Take your son, your only son Isaac... " 00:20:26.09\00:20:30.19 and... and that "only son" means he was the son of the promise, 00:20:30.23\00:20:34.10 son of the covenant 00:20:34.13\00:20:35.60 because, of course, he had another son 00:20:35.63\00:20:37.87 but that's a covenant term. 00:20:37.90\00:20:39.80 "Take your only son Isaac, whom you love... 00:20:39.83\00:20:42.27 go to the land of Moriah, 00:20:42.30\00:20:43.67 offer him there as a burnt offering... " 00:20:43.71\00:20:45.87 well, you know first time I read that 00:20:45.91\00:20:48.04 I'm like, "What? 00:20:48.08\00:20:50.05 God told them not to burn their children as sacrifices... 00:20:50.08\00:20:53.55 and I was just thinking about Abraham's wife Sarah. 00:20:53.58\00:20:58.59 If he came to her and said, "Hey... " 00:20:58.62\00:21:00.89 If... if JD came to me and said, "God said I need to sacrifice, 00:21:00.92\00:21:05.33 you know, one of our kids... " or something, 00:21:05.36\00:21:07.60 I'd be going, "You'd better be listening... " 00:21:07.63\00:21:09.00 thinking... is that your thought 00:21:09.03\00:21:10.90 or is that God's thought? 00:21:10.93\00:21:12.60 But look at Hebrews 11:17 through 19, 00:21:12.63\00:21:16.50 because it sounds so ridiculous 00:21:16.54\00:21:18.47 but here Abraham just gets up 00:21:18.51\00:21:20.38 and he takes the boy up the mountain 00:21:20.41\00:21:22.04 and tells the servants, "We're going up here... 00:21:22.08\00:21:23.68 we will return. " 00:21:23.75\00:21:25.08 But Hebrews 11:17 through 19, 00:21:25.11\00:21:27.78 "By faith Abraham, when he was tested, 00:21:27.82\00:21:29.68 offered up Isaac, 00:21:29.72\00:21:31.05 he had received the promises 00:21:31.09\00:21:32.69 offered up his only begotten son, 00:21:32.72\00:21:34.52 of whom it was said, 00:21:34.56\00:21:35.89 'In Isaac your seed shall be called... '" 00:21:35.92\00:21:38.99 Isaac was the key to the covenant blessings. 00:21:39.03\00:21:42.33 but look at what verse 19 says, 00:21:42.36\00:21:44.90 "Abraham concluded that God was able to raise him up, 00:21:44.93\00:21:51.17 even from the dead, 00:21:51.24\00:21:52.57 from which he also did receive him in a figurative sense. " 00:21:52.61\00:21:56.28 What do you mean? 00:21:56.31\00:21:57.85 There had never been a resurrection of the dead 00:21:57.88\00:22:00.32 before Abraham's time. 00:22:00.38\00:22:01.82 But see, John 8:56... Jesus tells the Pharisees, 00:22:01.85\00:22:06.72 "Your father Abraham saw my day: 00:22:06.76\00:22:10.66 he rejoiced in my day... 00:22:10.69\00:22:12.89 he saw... and he was glad. " 00:22:12.93\00:22:15.23 So, in this extremely condensed narrative of 50 chapters 00:22:15.26\00:22:22.70 in Genesis covering 2300 years, 00:22:22.77\00:22:25.41 there are some things that we... 00:22:25.44\00:22:28.01 they're not pointed out in the narrative 00:22:28.04\00:22:31.08 but we find it on down the road 00:22:31.11\00:22:33.62 so, I believe it was Genesis 15 00:22:33.65\00:22:36.08 when God was cutting the covenant with Abraham... 00:22:36.12\00:22:39.92 when he was ratifying the covenant... 00:22:39.95\00:22:42.66 I believe when he put Abraham into a deep sleep, 00:22:42.72\00:22:45.86 that's when Abraham saw Christ's day... 00:22:45.89\00:22:48.40 he knew God was going to come down... become a man... 00:22:48.43\00:22:51.43 die on the cross... be resurrected... 00:22:51.50\00:22:53.94 and... and so, there we go. 00:22:53.97\00:22:56.07 Now, let's take that same principle and apply it to Abel. 00:22:56.10\00:23:00.71 In Hebrews 11:4... talking about Cain and Abel, 00:23:00.74\00:23:05.31 it says, "By faith... by faith 00:23:05.35\00:23:08.58 Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain. " 00:23:08.62\00:23:13.76 now, first of all... some people say, 00:23:13.82\00:23:15.56 "Oh, it wasn't sacrificial offering... " 00:23:15.59\00:23:16.93 yes it was... 00:23:16.96\00:23:18.29 "through which he obtained witness that he was righteous. " 00:23:18.33\00:23:22.63 What does that mean? 00:23:22.66\00:23:24.00 He was in right standing with God... 00:23:24.03\00:23:25.90 he was following God's way that was prescribed 00:23:25.93\00:23:29.70 and it says, "God testifying of it... of his gifts: 00:23:29.74\00:23:34.71 and through it he being dead still speaks. " 00:23:34.74\00:23:38.61 See, Abel acted in faith... 00:23:38.65\00:23:41.78 his sacrifice was offered according to... 00:23:41.82\00:23:45.55 we don't see in the narrative 00:23:45.59\00:23:47.89 where God explained the whole sacrificial system 00:23:47.92\00:23:51.19 to Adam and Eve 00:23:51.23\00:23:52.56 but like you said... the heartbreak... 00:23:52.59\00:23:54.26 they had to see an animal die to provide coverings for them. 00:23:54.30\00:23:58.37 Obviously, they did understand the sacrificial system. 00:23:58.40\00:24:02.10 Obviously, if we look at the rest of the Scripture, 00:24:02.14\00:24:06.54 they taught Cain and Abel what God had commanded 00:24:06.57\00:24:10.75 and... and this is something that, you know, 00:24:10.78\00:24:14.28 Jesus referred to Abel as a righteous man 00:24:14.32\00:24:17.79 who did what was right in the sight of the Lord. 00:24:17.82\00:24:21.62 So, we see that Hebrews actually supports the righteousness 00:24:21.69\00:24:27.00 of Abel but look at 1st John 3:11 and 12, 00:24:27.03\00:24:30.57 because we've got to see what the New Testament 00:24:30.60\00:24:32.40 is saying about Cain. 00:24:32.43\00:24:34.77 1st John 3:11... "Cain was one of the wicked one 00:24:34.80\00:24:39.07 and he murdered his brother. 00:24:39.11\00:24:41.04 Why did he murder him? 00:24:41.08\00:24:42.48 Because his works were evil... " 00:24:42.54\00:24:45.01 they were disobedient and his brother's were righteous. 00:24:45.05\00:24:48.88 Let me tell you something, 00:24:48.92\00:24:50.25 Cain disdained God's divine instruction. 00:24:50.29\00:24:54.86 He decided for himself how he was going to worship 00:24:54.89\00:24:58.09 and what would be admissible 00:24:58.13\00:24:59.53 and when God found... 00:24:59.56\00:25:02.26 you know, let me tell you something, 00:25:02.30\00:25:04.63 God will never ask us to do something 00:25:04.67\00:25:06.97 that hasn't been explained to us 00:25:07.00\00:25:09.10 so, we know that when God found him in error, 00:25:09.14\00:25:14.11 God even said, "If you do right, won't you be found? 00:25:14.14\00:25:17.05 You know, why are you sulking? 00:25:17.08\00:25:19.21 Why are you in self-pity? 00:25:19.25\00:25:20.65 Our point is: Let's worship God 00:25:20.68\00:25:24.29 the way He prescribes. 00:25:24.32\00:25:26.12 Jill: Amen, that's beautiful Shelley, I love that. 00:25:26.15\00:25:28.89 We're going to take a short break, 00:25:28.92\00:25:30.26 we'll be right back. 00:25:30.29\00:25:32.49 Music... 00:25:32.53\00:25:37.00 Ever wish you could watch a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel again 00:25:37.03\00:25:40.74 or share it on Facebook... 00:25:40.77\00:25:42.37 Instagram... or Twitter... 00:25:42.40\00:25:43.97 Well, you can by visiting 3ABNSabbathSchoolPanel. com 00:25:44.01\00:25:48.81 A clean design makes it easy 00:25:48.84\00:25:51.41 to find the Program you are looking for. 00:25:51.45\00:25:53.38 There are also links to the Adult Bible Study Guide 00:25:53.42\00:25:57.19 so you can follow along. 00:25:57.22\00:25:58.55 Sharing is easy... just click "share" 00:25:58.62\00:26:01.26 and choose your favorite Social Media. 00:26:01.29\00:26:03.93 Share a Link... " 00:27:05.19\00:27:06.72 Verse 4... 00:27:06.76\00:27:08.09 "And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of the flock 00:27:08.12\00:27:11.29 and of the fat thereof. 00:27:11.33\00:27:12.66 And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering. " 00:27:12.69\00:27:15.60 Verse 5... "But unto Cain and to his offering 00:27:15.63\00:27:18.73 He had not respect. 00:27:18.77\00:27:20.10 And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. 00:27:20.14\00:27:23.91 And the Lord said unto Cain, 'Why art thou wroth? 00:27:23.97\00:27:27.78 and why is thy countenance fallen?'" 00:27:27.81\00:27:33.31 Verse 7... "If thou doest well, 00:27:33.35\00:27:35.58 shalt thou not be accepted? 00:27:35.62\00:27:37.22 and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. 00:27:37.29\00:27:40.46 And unto thee shall be his desire, 00:27:40.52\00:27:42.59 and thou shalt rule over him. " 00:27:42.62\00:27:44.63 And Verse 8... "And Cain talked with Abel his brother: 00:27:44.66\00:27:48.40 and it came to pass, when they were in the field, 00:27:48.46\00:27:51.13 that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. " 00:27:51.17\00:27:54.64 So, like you said, Shelley, and I really appreciated this, 00:27:54.67\00:27:58.11 you know, the details aren't always in the verses, 00:27:58.14\00:28:00.24 you know, you kind of have to go out of the verses 00:28:00.28\00:28:02.54 to the New Testament... maybe to the rest of Genesis 00:28:02.61\00:28:04.88 and kind of build a little bit of the story 00:28:04.91\00:28:07.32 put it... a little bit of the story in there 00:28:07.35\00:28:10.19 so, what is the process the Quarterly asks 00:28:10.22\00:28:13.02 that led Cain to kill his brother? 00:28:13.05\00:28:14.86 We know the first step in the process was: Disobedience. 00:28:14.89\00:28:18.23 That was the first step in the process 00:28:18.26\00:28:19.86 and that's taking us all the way back 00:28:19.89\00:28:21.46 to Adam and Eve in the garden. 00:28:21.50\00:28:23.10 You know, disobedience... that's what Satan is all about. 00:28:23.13\00:28:26.20 He's all about us getting to disobey God's Word... 00:28:26.23\00:28:29.30 to turn away from God's Word. 00:28:29.34\00:28:30.67 Cain brought fruit of the ground and as you said, Shelley, 00:28:30.71\00:28:34.61 and I... and I see that so... so clearly... 00:28:34.64\00:28:37.41 the fruit of the ground was self-righteousness. 00:28:37.45\00:28:40.15 He brought himself... his works to God 00:28:40.18\00:28:43.52 and the works of his hands were to replace 00:28:43.55\00:28:46.82 the sacrifice of the lamb. 00:28:46.86\00:28:48.99 The sacrifice of the lamb is what God had established 00:28:49.02\00:28:51.73 with Adam and Eve right from the beginning 00:28:51.76\00:28:53.60 when he made, you know, them skins for clothing... 00:28:53.63\00:28:56.73 it pointed to the sacrifice of the lamb 00:28:56.77\00:28:59.23 and, of course, Revelation chapter 13 verse 8, 00:28:59.27\00:29:02.24 Jesus Christ is the lamb slain from the foundation of the world 00:29:02.27\00:29:05.71 love that God put that right in Revelation 13 00:29:05.74\00:29:07.91 because it points us to the cross. 00:29:07.94\00:29:09.44 So, Cain is not looking to the cross... 00:29:09.48\00:29:13.05 he's not looking to the lamb... 00:29:13.08\00:29:14.42 he's not looking to Jesus... 00:29:14.45\00:29:15.78 he's not looking to the sacrifice of Christ, 00:29:15.82\00:29:17.15 he's looking to the sacrifice from himself. 00:29:17.19\00:29:18.95 That ground was cursed... it was hard work 00:29:19.02\00:29:20.72 and Cain brought the best that he could bring... 00:29:20.76\00:29:23.69 his hard work... 00:29:23.73\00:29:25.06 his hard-earned works or fruits to God. 00:29:25.09\00:29:28.13 Oh, he was not happy... 00:29:28.16\00:29:30.17 he was rejected... that's the 2nd step... rejection. 00:29:30.20\00:29:32.93 This is the second step in the process... 00:29:32.97\00:29:35.90 Cain's offering was not accepted by God 00:29:35.94\00:29:38.81 and he did not appreciate that 00:29:38.87\00:29:40.41 and it's a lot of times the problem is not just our works 00:29:40.44\00:29:45.11 but the fact that our works aren't accepted with God 00:29:45.15\00:29:47.82 that causes us to have a little bit of agitation... 00:29:47.85\00:29:50.02 a little bit of problem 00:29:50.05\00:29:51.45 especially when we look around, we see, you know, 00:29:51.49\00:29:53.52 other people's works are accepted of the Lord... 00:29:53.56\00:29:55.42 they are being blessed... 00:29:55.46\00:29:56.79 they... God is, you know, communicating to them 00:29:56.83\00:29:59.66 with a positive attitude... 00:29:59.69\00:30:01.83 a positive spirit and not with us. 00:30:01.86\00:30:03.57 That's the time when we need to search our hearts... 00:30:03.63\00:30:06.30 that's the time when we need to ask ourselves, 00:30:06.33\00:30:08.40 "Have we done things the way God wanted us to do them?" 00:30:08.44\00:30:11.54 You know, that's why David was a man after God's own heart 00:30:11.57\00:30:14.61 because when they brought forth the Ark, you know, 00:30:14.64\00:30:17.15 and they had it on a cart 00:30:17.28\00:30:18.61 and Uzzah, you know, went to steady that cart 00:30:18.65\00:30:21.42 and boom! he was dead in a flash. 00:30:21.45\00:30:24.62 David went back and searched his heart 00:30:24.65\00:30:26.76 and he figured out, you know... 00:30:26.82\00:30:28.16 "I didn't do things the way I was supposed to do them... 00:30:28.19\00:30:29.92 I didn't do things according to God's Word... 00:30:29.96\00:30:32.26 we need to do this differently. " 00:30:32.29\00:30:34.03 It was okay for the heathen... 00:30:34.10\00:30:35.76 the Philistines to put the ark on a cart 00:30:35.80\00:30:37.70 but it wasn't okay for God's people 00:30:37.73\00:30:39.43 because God's people knew better. 00:30:39.47\00:30:41.14 God's people had been told 00:30:41.17\00:30:42.50 how they were to transport this ark 00:30:42.54\00:30:44.14 and it wasn't putting it on a cart. 00:30:44.17\00:30:46.27 The Levites were supposed to carry it. 00:30:46.31\00:30:49.61 And then we have the next step is: anger. 00:30:49.64\00:30:52.88 Anger is something... it might be surprise to you... 00:30:52.91\00:30:57.59 anger is something that is expressed in the Bible 00:30:57.62\00:31:02.26 by God more than by any other person. 00:31:02.29\00:31:04.86 Anger is not necessarily a bad thing. 00:31:04.89\00:31:07.66 God is often angry in the Bible... 00:31:07.70\00:31:10.40 we need to recognize that it's not anger so much 00:31:10.43\00:31:14.10 as why we're angry 00:31:14.14\00:31:15.77 and what we do with the anger that's the problem. 00:31:15.80\00:31:18.51 So, God has... what we call a... 00:31:18.54\00:31:20.38 a righteous indignation. 00:31:20.41\00:31:21.94 But our anger James says 00:31:21.98\00:31:23.41 does not work the righteousness of God 00:31:23.45\00:31:25.28 and definitely Cain's anger was not working 00:31:25.31\00:31:28.32 the righteousness of God. 00:31:28.35\00:31:29.82 He was very angry and that word actually means, 00:31:29.85\00:31:32.49 he was jealous 00:31:32.52\00:31:34.06 and that was a... a selfish jealousy. 00:31:34.09\00:31:35.89 You know, the Bible talks about "Godly jealousy" 00:31:35.92\00:31:38.06 2nd Corinthians chapter 11 verse 2... 00:31:38.09\00:31:40.06 in fact... the Ten-Commandment chapter... Exodus 20 tells us 00:31:40.10\00:31:43.80 that God is a jealous God. 00:31:43.83\00:31:45.17 And then there's a "selfish jealousy" 00:31:45.20\00:31:47.27 and that's what we see with Cain. 00:31:47.34\00:31:48.90 He was angry and jealous because of him. 00:31:48.94\00:31:51.01 He was selfish... he was thinking about, 00:31:51.04\00:31:53.04 "I got rejected and my works... 00:31:53.07\00:31:54.61 my... my fruit didn't get accepted and his did and... " 00:31:54.64\00:31:57.25 and whereas God's jealousy is always looking out 00:31:57.28\00:31:59.75 for the other person. Panel: Yeah, hmmm... hmmm. 00:31:59.78\00:32:01.15 God's jealousy is directed toward others. 00:32:01.18\00:32:02.82 He's concerned for us 00:32:02.85\00:32:04.19 and wants to protect us from harm 00:32:04.25\00:32:06.25 and the consequences of our wrong actions. 00:32:06.29\00:32:09.42 So, he was rejected of God... 00:32:09.46\00:32:12.13 he was disobedient to God... 00:32:12.16\00:32:14.76 he became angry in that rejection 00:32:14.80\00:32:16.87 and then he went into depression. 00:32:16.93\00:32:18.93 We might say... this was the first account of depression 00:32:18.97\00:32:21.84 in the Bible... I don't know, it seems like it was... 00:32:21.87\00:32:23.61 his countenance was fallen, you know. 00:32:23.64\00:32:25.11 You know, when you get depressed 00:32:25.17\00:32:26.51 you're just like... hmmmm... 00:32:26.54\00:32:27.88 just sulking, you know, I mean. 00:32:27.91\00:32:29.24 Jill: Pity party... 00:32:29.28\00:32:30.61 James: Yeah... pity party... it's all about you 00:32:30.65\00:32:33.01 and that, of course, is the fourth step that we see here. 00:32:33.05\00:32:36.32 Cain's countenance is fallen... 00:32:36.35\00:32:37.89 and... and he... because of the consequence of his rejection, 00:32:37.92\00:32:42.79 his disobedience... his anger... 00:32:42.82\00:32:44.53 he becomes depressed 00:32:44.59\00:32:46.19 and in that context, we go into this fifth step, 00:32:46.23\00:32:48.86 now, in this fifth step, God actually steps in 00:32:48.90\00:32:51.47 and God speaks to Cain and I love this because 00:32:51.53\00:32:54.07 God is always seeking to intercede on our behalf. 00:32:54.10\00:32:56.60 He is always seeking to save us primarily from ourselves... 00:32:56.67\00:32:59.97 from our own selfishness... 00:33:00.04\00:33:02.34 from our own anger... 00:33:02.38\00:33:03.85 from our own negativity and depression 00:33:03.88\00:33:06.78 and so He steps in and God speaks to Cain 00:33:06.82\00:33:09.68 and He exhorts him. 00:33:09.72\00:33:11.05 You know, He tells him that you can do what's right... 00:33:11.09\00:33:13.72 that you don't have to do what's wrong 00:33:13.76\00:33:15.39 and you don't have to let disobedience rule over you. 00:33:15.42\00:33:18.23 You don't have to let sin rule over you and I love that... 00:33:18.29\00:33:20.43 that's the message of the gospel. 00:33:20.46\00:33:21.80 Jesus didn't come just to die for our sins... 00:33:21.83\00:33:24.27 Jesus came to set us free from our sins. 00:33:24.30\00:33:25.80 Shelley: Amen. 00:33:25.83\00:33:27.17 James: It's a miserable experience 00:33:27.20\00:33:28.54 to be sinning and repenting... 00:33:28.57\00:33:29.90 sinning and repenting than to be free from the sins. 00:33:29.94\00:33:32.07 God has the power to free us from those sins. 00:33:32.11\00:33:35.04 And so, God steps in... God rebukes Cain... 00:33:35.08\00:33:37.75 God exhorts Cain... that's Step Number 5... 00:33:37.78\00:33:40.45 Step Number 6: Coercion. 00:33:40.48\00:33:42.02 This is the next step... 00:33:42.05\00:33:43.55 so, when Cain refuses or resists God's rebuke, 00:33:43.59\00:33:47.86 he goes to talk to his brother 00:33:47.92\00:33:49.26 and, you know, it doesn't again fill it in there 00:33:49.29\00:33:51.76 but you can tell that in the conversation, 00:33:51.79\00:33:54.33 there's a little bit of coercion... 00:33:54.36\00:33:56.06 there's a little bit of force that Cain is the older brother, 00:33:56.10\00:33:59.33 the... the potential Messiah 00:33:59.37\00:34:02.34 is bringing against his younger brother 00:34:02.37\00:34:04.81 who was just like lighter than vanity 00:34:04.84\00:34:06.78 in the eyes of the parents, right? 00:34:06.81\00:34:08.74 You got some favoritism that comes into this 00:34:08.78\00:34:10.75 and in this sense Cain speaks to Abel 00:34:10.78\00:34:13.35 and expects Abel to listen to him and to obey him 00:34:13.38\00:34:15.85 and, of course, that's the way we come across too. 00:34:15.88\00:34:18.35 We follow these progressive steps 00:34:18.39\00:34:19.95 and we come across to others in exactly the same way. 00:34:19.99\00:34:22.32 That's where this "coercion religion" comes from. 00:34:22.36\00:34:24.69 "You're going to do things my way... " 00:34:24.93\00:34:26.26 in fact, look at the story of Cain and Abel 00:34:26.29\00:34:28.70 and we can parallel it to Revelation chapter 13 00:34:28.73\00:34:30.67 in more ways than one. 00:34:30.70\00:34:32.20 Panel: Hmmm... that's good... yeah... 00:34:32.23\00:34:33.57 James: We can see the big picture there 00:34:33.60\00:34:34.94 that's taking place 00:34:34.97\00:34:36.30 and then, finally, Cain cancels Abel. 00:34:36.34\00:34:39.14 You know, we're living in a cancel culture. 00:34:39.17\00:34:41.01 We're living in a culture 00:34:41.04\00:34:42.48 where we just want to cancel people out 00:34:42.51\00:34:44.71 who annoy us... who don't agree with us... 00:34:44.75\00:34:46.85 who go against us... who are not in harmony with us, 00:34:46.88\00:34:49.65 it's very opposite of... 00:34:49.68\00:34:52.72 this is very opposite to the principles 00:34:52.75\00:34:54.52 upon this country was founded, you know, 00:34:54.59\00:34:56.32 principles of this freedom 00:34:56.36\00:34:58.03 where we allow other people to have opinions 00:34:58.09\00:35:00.10 that are different than ours, right? 00:35:00.13\00:35:02.00 We have that freedom of conscience... 00:35:02.03\00:35:03.90 really it's... it's the principle of Christianity 00:35:03.93\00:35:06.57 it's okay but cancels out Abel, he ends Abel's life 00:35:06.60\00:35:09.24 and he thinks things are going to be better 00:35:09.27\00:35:11.11 but they're not going to be better 00:35:11.14\00:35:12.47 because wherever you go... there you are. 00:35:12.51\00:35:16.18 Panel: Amen. 00:35:16.21\00:35:17.55 James: As long as self is alive, 00:35:17.58\00:35:18.91 we're going to be struggling with the same principles 00:35:18.95\00:35:20.58 so, these are the basic steps that Cain goes through 00:35:20.62\00:35:23.28 and I just pray and hope for those of us who are listening... 00:35:23.32\00:35:25.39 for each one of us 00:35:25.42\00:35:26.76 that we won't follow these steps... 00:35:26.79\00:35:28.12 that we'll start with obeying God... 00:35:28.16\00:35:29.49 we'll start with accepting what He says to us... 00:35:29.52\00:35:31.76 letting Him have our anger... processing through that 00:35:31.79\00:35:34.10 all of that... 00:35:34.13\00:35:35.46 giving it to God 00:35:35.50\00:35:36.83 and then, letting Him lift us from depression... 00:35:36.87\00:35:39.33 listening to his rebuke... 00:35:39.37\00:35:41.40 not falling into coercion 00:35:41.44\00:35:43.44 and definitely not canceling others. 00:35:43.47\00:35:45.51 Panel: Amen... amen... amen... amen. 00:35:45.54\00:35:47.58 Dinzey: Praise the Lord, 00:35:47.61\00:35:48.94 now we are on Wednesday's part of the lesson, 00:35:48.98\00:35:51.38 my name is John Dinzey 00:35:51.41\00:35:52.75 and I encourage you to follow along 00:35:52.78\00:35:55.58 as we continue this... 00:35:55.62\00:35:56.99 Genesis chapter 4 beginning in verse 9, 00:35:57.02\00:35:59.92 "Then the Lord said to Cain, 00:35:59.95\00:36:02.96 'Where is Abel your brother?' 00:36:03.16\00:36:06.39 He said, 'I do not know, Am I my brother's keeper'?" 00:36:06.43\00:36:12.07 And, you know, I love that you brought out that, James, that 00:36:12.10\00:36:15.77 the Lord approached Cain 00:36:15.80\00:36:18.17 before he made this horrible act of killing his brother. 00:36:18.21\00:36:21.51 See, it shows that God is concerned about us... 00:36:21.54\00:36:23.88 concerned about our feelings... 00:36:23.91\00:36:25.25 concerned about the things that we are facing... 00:36:25.28\00:36:27.02 the challenges we're facing, 00:36:27.05\00:36:28.38 so, I encourage you to believe that God is concerned about you 00:36:28.42\00:36:32.55 and He was concerned about Cain 00:36:32.59\00:36:34.49 because God knows what we're thinking 00:36:34.52\00:36:37.03 and so, He was trying to help Cain 00:36:37.06\00:36:39.49 so that he doesn't do what Cain was already 00:36:39.53\00:36:43.20 working in his mind apparently. 00:36:43.23\00:36:44.97 But the question to Cain was, "Where is Abel your brother?" 00:36:45.00\00:36:49.67 The Lord did not ask, "Where is Abel?" 00:36:49.70\00:36:51.57 The Lord asked him, "Where is Abel your brother?" 00:36:51.61\00:36:55.34 And that has more significance 00:36:55.38\00:36:58.45 understanding that He's part of you... 00:36:58.48\00:37:00.22 he's a part of your family 00:37:00.25\00:37:01.58 and we have now the answer of Cain, 00:37:01.62\00:37:05.22 "I do not know. " 00:37:05.25\00:37:07.46 So, what do we have here but a lie... 00:37:07.49\00:37:10.36 the first recorded lie by a human being 00:37:10.39\00:37:13.23 is made by Cain. 00:37:13.26\00:37:14.90 Cain becomes the first murderer and the first liar 00:37:14.93\00:37:18.63 upon the face of the earth. 00:37:18.67\00:37:20.57 So, what is he doing? 00:37:20.60\00:37:22.04 He's identifying with the devil 00:37:22.10\00:37:24.24 who is a liar and a murderer. 00:37:24.27\00:37:26.81 So, he's not identifying with God, 00:37:26.84\00:37:29.04 he's beginning to choose his own thing... 00:37:29.11\00:37:30.75 wants to worship according to what the way he wants. 00:37:30.78\00:37:33.21 He is identifying with Satan's kingdom 00:37:33.25\00:37:35.98 instead of God's kingdom. 00:37:36.02\00:37:37.39 So, this is... it was just a dangerous road to go on. 00:37:37.42\00:37:42.42 Let's go to Genesis chapter 4 verse 10, 00:37:42.46\00:37:44.53 "And He said... " that is God... 00:37:44.56\00:37:47.20 "What have you done?" 00:37:47.23\00:37:49.46 Notice... "The voice of your brother's blood 00:37:49.50\00:37:53.23 cries out to Me from the ground. " 00:37:53.27\00:37:55.84 You see, God is connected to each one of His children. 00:37:55.87\00:37:59.84 He knows your heartbeat... 00:37:59.87\00:38:01.91 He knows the sound you make... 00:38:01.94\00:38:03.58 He knows how you smell... 00:38:03.61\00:38:04.95 He knows the very hairs upon your head 00:38:04.98\00:38:06.88 and any little amount of suffering, 00:38:06.92\00:38:09.68 God feels it... God knows about it 00:38:09.72\00:38:12.09 and here He personifies the blood by saying, 00:38:12.12\00:38:15.89 "Your brother's voice cries out to Me from the ground. " 00:38:15.92\00:38:18.53 And how many... how many times a day 00:38:18.56\00:38:21.43 does God have to face this type of thing 00:38:21.46\00:38:24.27 because we're living in the culture like you said, 00:38:24.30\00:38:26.37 of canceling people... killing people 00:38:26.40\00:38:28.10 for whatever reason 00:38:28.17\00:38:29.50 and this is a dangerous time we're living in 00:38:29.54\00:38:33.07 and so, we have here... 00:38:33.11\00:38:35.11 "The voice of your brother's blood 00:38:35.14\00:38:37.65 cries out to Me from the ground. " 00:38:37.71\00:38:39.18 And you know, the Lord says, "Vengeance is mine. " 00:38:39.21\00:38:42.95 Everyone will have to answer for the things they have done. 00:38:42.98\00:38:47.19 Let's go to Genesis chapter 4 verse 11, 00:38:47.26\00:38:49.06 because we're talking about Cain's punishment. 00:38:49.09\00:38:52.09 The punishment of Cain is the title of Wednesday's lesson. 00:38:52.13\00:38:55.73 Genesis 4:11 says, 00:38:55.76\00:38:57.47 "So now you are cursed from the earth, 00:38:57.50\00:39:01.50 which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood 00:39:01.57\00:39:05.74 from your hand. " 00:39:05.77\00:39:07.31 God is putting the responsibility 00:39:07.34\00:39:10.78 directly upon Cain. 00:39:10.81\00:39:12.35 "You have done this act... you are denying it 00:39:12.38\00:39:15.55 and notice, he... Cain did not only lie... 00:39:15.58\00:39:18.75 it's one thing to lie to people 00:39:18.79\00:39:20.26 which you think you can deceive 00:39:20.29\00:39:21.66 but he lied to God that knows everything. 00:39:21.72\00:39:25.49 He apparently was beginning to lose his reverence for God 00:39:25.56\00:39:30.10 and thinking... 00:39:30.13\00:39:31.47 "I can treat Him just like anyone else. " 00:39:31.50\00:39:32.83 He lied to God that knows all things 00:39:32.87\00:39:35.87 and we cannot lie to God... 00:39:35.90\00:39:38.44 God knows... even before you even express it, 00:39:38.47\00:39:41.34 God already knows. 00:39:41.44\00:39:42.78 So, here we have Cain on very dangerous ground. 00:39:42.81\00:39:47.58 "The earth has opened up its mouth 00:39:47.62\00:39:49.35 to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 00:39:49.38\00:39:51.05 When you till the ground, 00:39:51.09\00:39:53.69 it shall no longer yield its strength to you. 00:39:53.72\00:39:57.16 A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth. " 00:39:57.23\00:40:01.40 We don't use that word often here, 00:40:01.43\00:40:03.26 "You vagabond... " 00:40:03.30\00:40:04.63 you know, it's... what is a vagabond? 00:40:04.67\00:40:06.47 And it's... the whole... 00:40:06.50\00:40:08.40 the whole expression talks about... 00:40:08.44\00:40:10.44 the person is... is just roaming about the earth, 00:40:10.47\00:40:14.04 having no stability 00:40:14.08\00:40:15.58 and a fugitive... 00:40:15.64\00:40:17.05 because Cain had killed a member of his own family 00:40:17.11\00:40:21.95 and so, here we have that Cain's crime 00:40:21.98\00:40:26.69 made him the first murderer upon the earth. 00:40:26.72\00:40:28.76 What was the reaction? 00:40:28.79\00:40:30.43 Cain's murder was known... 00:40:30.46\00:40:32.03 we already heard earlier that Eve says, 00:40:32.09\00:40:35.40 that I have gotten a man from the Lord 00:40:35.46\00:40:38.73 and she says that the Lord gave Seth to replace Abel 00:40:38.77\00:40:44.31 whom Cain had killed. 00:40:44.37\00:40:46.57 So, we have this innocent blood... 00:40:46.61\00:40:50.31 notice... Cain shed innocent blood. 00:40:50.35\00:40:54.58 We shed 00:40:54.62\00:40:56.69 the innocent blood of Jesus. 00:40:56.72\00:40:58.89 Panel: Hmmm... Dinzey: So, you see.. 00:40:58.92\00:41:00.36 we ourselves, in a sense, are murderers... 00:41:00.42\00:41:05.36 we have participated in the murder of Jesus Christ. 00:41:05.39\00:41:08.96 Jesus Christ became a sacrifice to save us 00:41:09.00\00:41:12.57 but it's our sins that created the situation 00:41:12.60\00:41:16.14 for Jesus to die for us. 00:41:16.17\00:41:18.01 We already read Hebrews chapter 11 verse 4, 00:41:18.04\00:41:19.94 I'll read it again, 00:41:19.97\00:41:21.31 "By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice 00:41:21.34\00:41:25.21 than Cain, by which he obtained witness 00:41:25.25\00:41:27.28 that he was righteous... " 00:41:27.32\00:41:28.65 he was innocent. 00:41:28.68\00:41:30.02 "God testifying of his gifts; 00:41:30.05\00:41:31.39 and by it he being dead yet speaketh. " 00:41:31.45\00:41:35.06 Cain continues to speak... 00:41:35.12\00:41:36.83 Cain continues to be a... a... an example of what we should do. 00:41:36.86\00:41:41.73 In Genesis chapter 4 verse 13, 00:41:41.76\00:41:44.43 by the way, Cain became the first martyr 00:41:44.47\00:41:47.34 and there after Cain had been many martyrs. 00:41:47.37\00:41:49.97 What is a martyr? 00:41:50.01\00:41:51.41 It's a person that dies not deserving of death... 00:41:51.44\00:41:56.71 a person that has done the right thing 00:41:56.75\00:41:59.71 and then he suffers... 00:41:59.75\00:42:01.98 Panel: corrects him... Abel... 00:42:02.02\00:42:03.45 Dinzey: Abel... thank you very much... 00:42:03.49\00:42:04.82 Abel... thank you very much. 00:42:04.85\00:42:06.19 And so, Genesis chapter 4 verse 13 brings out 00:42:06.22\00:42:11.06 something that Cain said. 00:42:11.09\00:42:12.96 I'd like to read that to you, 00:42:12.99\00:42:14.43 "And Cain said to the LORD, 00:42:14.46\00:42:15.86 'My punishment is greater than I can bear!'" 00:42:15.90\00:42:21.00 What is Cain saying to the Lord now? 00:42:21.04\00:42:23.64 He is saying, "This seems to be unfair... 00:42:23.67\00:42:26.68 my punishment is great... 00:42:26.71\00:42:28.34 I deserve to be punished less... " 00:42:28.41\00:42:30.11 is implied here. 00:42:30.15\00:42:31.61 But Cain apparently is not understanding 00:42:31.65\00:42:35.15 the enormity of what he has done. 00:42:35.18\00:42:37.55 Because he is looking at what he has lost 00:42:37.59\00:42:40.92 and... because notice... 00:42:40.96\00:42:43.56 Cain was a tiller of the ground. 00:42:43.59\00:42:45.53 He loved to work with the ground... 00:42:45.56\00:42:47.43 he loved to plant the seeds... 00:42:47.50\00:42:49.50 he loved to see things growing, 00:42:49.53\00:42:51.50 he loved to take care of these things 00:42:51.53\00:42:53.60 and to see the harvest coming in 00:42:53.64\00:42:55.60 and the harvest is really a blessing from the Lord. 00:42:55.64\00:42:58.71 He has lost that opportunity. 00:42:58.77\00:43:00.38 The Lord took that from him... 00:43:00.41\00:43:01.98 that joy that he would have working with the ground 00:43:02.01\00:43:04.78 is now gone because the ground, said the Lord, 00:43:04.81\00:43:08.15 would not yield its strength to him. 00:43:08.18\00:43:10.25 Now, he feels... they've taken away from me 00:43:10.29\00:43:13.89 all the things that I love 00:43:13.92\00:43:15.66 and so, Cain thinks that his punishment is great... 00:43:15.69\00:43:20.10 he is complaining. 00:43:20.13\00:43:21.46 So, it is evident that Cain does not even deny 00:43:21.50\00:43:24.40 that he should be punished because he says, 00:43:24.43\00:43:27.34 "My punishment... " 00:43:27.37\00:43:28.70 he's not saying, "I don't deserve to be punished... " 00:43:28.74\00:43:30.84 he begins to understand, "I deserve to be punished... " 00:43:30.87\00:43:33.34 and so, we have here that Cain understands 00:43:33.38\00:43:38.35 and we have something that is very interesting, 00:43:38.38\00:43:40.95 I want to read about it in a moment 00:43:40.98\00:43:42.32 because the Lord was merciful to Cain... 00:43:42.35\00:43:45.55 He allowed him opportunity... 00:43:45.59\00:43:48.29 He allowed him to continue to live 00:43:48.32\00:43:50.69 because, you know, we have an eye for an eye, 00:43:50.73\00:43:52.99 a tooth for a tooth, 00:43:53.03\00:43:54.60 a life for a life. 00:43:54.63\00:43:56.16 Cain deserved to die 00:43:56.20\00:43:57.93 but God allowed him to live giving him the opportunity 00:43:57.97\00:44:01.24 to reform his way... to walk in the ways of the Lord 00:44:01.27\00:44:04.51 and to change his way 00:44:04.54\00:44:07.28 because he was going in a dangerous direction 00:44:07.31\00:44:10.75 and so, there was no remorse, 00:44:10.78\00:44:13.72 there was no... he only felt anguish and... and... 00:44:13.75\00:44:18.25 "Oh, I have to face this now. " 00:44:18.29\00:44:20.42 Genesis chapter 4 verse 14, notice what Cain says, 00:44:20.46\00:44:24.46 "Surely You have driven me out this day 00:44:24.49\00:44:27.66 from the face of the ground... " 00:44:27.73\00:44:29.16 and notice what Cain says, 00:44:29.20\00:44:31.03 "I shall be hidden from Your face; 00:44:31.10\00:44:34.00 I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, 00:44:34.04\00:44:37.11 and it will happen... " 00:44:37.14\00:44:38.47 now he presents his fear... 00:44:38.51\00:44:39.84 "that anyone who finds me will kill me. " 00:44:39.87\00:44:43.04 Cain is now afraid. 00:44:43.08\00:44:45.05 Cain is now thinking, 00:44:45.08\00:44:46.98 "Whoever finds me is going to kill me. " 00:44:47.02\00:44:48.82 And the Bible reveals that verse 15... 00:44:48.85\00:44:51.52 Genesis 4:15, "And the Lord said to him, 00:44:51.55\00:44:54.16 'Therefore, whoever kills Cain, 00:44:54.19\00:44:56.02 vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. ' 00:44:56.06\00:44:58.93 And the Lord set a mark on Cain, 00:44:58.96\00:45:01.40 lest anyone finding him should kill him. " 00:45:01.43\00:45:05.03 So, what that "mark" was we are not told, 00:45:05.07\00:45:08.34 we would enter into speculation to say what that "mark" was. 00:45:08.37\00:45:11.64 But I want to read something to you 00:45:11.67\00:45:14.51 that, to me, was impacting... 00:45:14.54\00:45:17.45 oh, I guess I would have to leave this 00:45:17.48\00:45:19.98 in case we have time later. 00:45:20.02\00:45:21.35 I want to say this because this impacts every one of us. 00:45:21.38\00:45:23.99 Ecclesiastes 12:14 says, 00:45:24.02\00:45:26.45 "For God shall bring every work into judgment, 00:45:26.49\00:45:29.72 with every secret thing, 00:45:29.76\00:45:31.53 whether it be good or whether it be evil. " 00:45:31.56\00:45:33.86 Do not think you're going to get away 00:45:33.90\00:45:35.86 with doing any type of sin. 00:45:35.90\00:45:38.13 Every one of us will have to answer 00:45:38.17\00:45:40.87 for everything we have said and done 00:45:40.90\00:45:43.54 and God will bring every work into judgment. 00:45:43.57\00:45:46.14 The only way you can get out of this is 00:45:46.17\00:45:48.18 by confessing your sins to the Lord... 00:45:48.24\00:45:50.21 giving your life to Jesus Christ 00:45:50.25\00:45:51.85 because He has already paid for our sins. 00:45:51.88\00:45:54.58 Panel: Amen. 00:45:54.62\00:45:55.95 Ryan: Hmmm... amen, thank you so much Pastor, 00:45:55.98\00:45:57.45 appreciate that. 00:45:57.49\00:45:58.82 I am Ryan Day and I have Thursday's lesson 00:45:58.85\00:46:01.66 which is entitled: The Wickedness of Men 00:46:01.69\00:46:04.23 and I'm excited because I get those verses 00:46:04.26\00:46:06.76 that most people just skip right over 00:46:06.80\00:46:09.13 reading through Genesis. 00:46:09.16\00:46:10.50 It's interesting because I've committed... many times 00:46:10.53\00:46:12.83 in my early years starting Genesis 00:46:12.87\00:46:14.34 and read the whole Bible, right... 00:46:14.37\00:46:16.30 you get, you know, four chapters in... 00:46:16.34\00:46:18.21 you read about the murder of... of Abel 00:46:18.24\00:46:19.61 you know, the whole story of Cain and Abel 00:46:19.64\00:46:20.98 and then you get to all these so and so begot so and so, 00:46:21.01\00:46:23.51 so and so begot so and so 00:46:23.55\00:46:24.88 and you get into all those begots, begots, begots 00:46:24.91\00:46:26.35 and so you tend to... 00:46:26.38\00:46:27.72 a lot of us tend to skip the latter verses of Genesis 4 00:46:27.75\00:46:30.52 and we tend to entirely skip the whole fifth chapter of Genesis 00:46:30.55\00:46:33.96 but my Friends, these are huge... 00:46:33.99\00:46:35.32 there's a reason why God put these genealogies in there. 00:46:35.36\00:46:38.46 I'm going to start first... 00:46:38.49\00:46:39.83 let's read... let's just read the Scripture, 00:46:39.86\00:46:41.20 let's go to Genesis chapter 4 and read verses 16 to 24 00:46:41.23\00:46:44.30 because, again, we're talking about the wickedness of man, 00:46:44.33\00:46:47.44 this is a huge thing 00:46:47.47\00:46:48.80 because if you don't comprehend what's happening 00:46:48.84\00:46:50.81 in the latter portions of chapter 4 00:46:50.84\00:46:53.81 and, of course, what's happening also in chapter 5, 00:46:53.88\00:46:55.58 with this genealogy... 00:46:55.64\00:46:56.98 by the time you get to the beginning verses of chapter 6, 00:46:57.01\00:46:59.38 there can be some confusion there 00:46:59.41\00:47:01.05 if you don't fully understand that. 00:47:01.08\00:47:02.42 So, we're going to start in verse 16 of Genesis chapter 4 00:47:02.45\00:47:05.69 notice what the Bible says, 00:47:05.72\00:47:07.06 it says, "Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord 00:47:07.09\00:47:09.59 and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. 00:47:09.62\00:47:12.93 And Cain knew his wife, 00:47:12.96\00:47:14.73 and she conceived and bore Enoch. 00:47:14.76\00:47:16.26 And he built a city, 00:47:16.33\00:47:17.73 and called the name of the city 00:47:17.80\00:47:19.17 after the name of his son... Enoch. 00:47:19.20\00:47:21.30 To Enoch he bore Irad; 00:47:21.40\00:47:23.41 and Irad begot Mehujael, 00:47:23.44\00:47:25.34 and Mehujael begot Methushael, 00:47:25.37\00:47:27.48 and Methushael begot Lamech. " 00:47:27.51\00:47:29.54 Okay, we're already getting into these "begots. " 00:47:29.58\00:47:31.21 Notice now we get down to the great, great, great-grandson 00:47:31.28\00:47:34.38 of Cain which is Lamech. 00:47:34.42\00:47:36.38 Verse 19, "Then Lamech took for himself two wives: 00:47:36.42\00:47:39.39 the name of one was Adah, 00:47:39.42\00:47:41.32 and the name of the second was Zillah. 00:47:41.36\00:47:43.12 And Adah bore Jabal. 00:47:43.16\00:47:45.09 And he was the father of those who dwell in tents 00:47:45.13\00:47:48.26 and have livestock. 00:47:48.30\00:47:49.63 His brother's name was Jubal. 00:47:49.66\00:47:51.03 And he was the father of 00:47:51.07\00:47:52.77 all those who play the harp and flute. 00:47:52.83\00:47:54.87 And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain... " 00:47:54.90\00:47:58.74 which, of course, 00:47:58.77\00:48:00.18 "an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. 00:48:00.21\00:48:02.68 And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah. " 00:48:02.71\00:48:05.58 And then notice this... this very arrogant message... 00:48:05.61\00:48:08.48 it's coming from the heart of Lamech here, 00:48:08.52\00:48:10.42 it says, "Then Lamech said to his wives, 00:48:10.45\00:48:12.32 'Adah and Zillah, here my voice; 00:48:12.35\00:48:14.19 wives of Lamech, listen to my speech! 00:48:14.22\00:48:16.66 For I have killed a man for wounding me, 00:48:16.69\00:48:19.09 even a young man for hurting me. 00:48:19.13\00:48:21.33 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, 00:48:21.36\00:48:23.97 then Lamech seventy-sevenfold. '" 00:48:24.00\00:48:26.47 Okay, you can just... 00:48:26.50\00:48:27.84 you can already see there's a great transition 00:48:27.87\00:48:30.34 starting to take place three generations after Cain. 00:48:30.37\00:48:33.58 Of course, we know it started with Cain. 00:48:33.61\00:48:35.34 Cain opened the door to something... 00:48:35.41\00:48:37.21 well, really we know Adam and Eve did 00:48:37.25\00:48:38.98 but Cain, of course, launched it even further 00:48:39.01\00:48:41.12 into this generational degradation 00:48:41.15\00:48:43.32 of more and more and more amplification of sin 00:48:43.35\00:48:46.05 and that's what basically Thursday's lesson is... 00:48:46.09\00:48:48.46 is highlighting. 00:48:48.49\00:48:49.82 In fact, it starts off by making an interesting connection 00:48:49.86\00:48:52.73 or comparison between Cain and Lamech. 00:48:52.76\00:48:55.13 We know that Cain was a sinner, 00:48:55.16\00:48:56.50 we know what he done 00:48:56.53\00:48:57.87 as we've been studying is horrible... 00:48:57.90\00:48:59.23 but by the time you get to Lamech, 00:48:59.27\00:49:00.60 now, it's time to make the very clear comparisons 00:49:00.64\00:49:03.00 as to who Lamech is really, 00:49:03.07\00:49:04.44 what kind of person he is 00:49:04.47\00:49:06.24 and how sin has completely basically just eroded away 00:49:06.27\00:49:10.81 at his family and his lineage. 00:49:10.85\00:49:12.18 So, notice here, the lesson brings out that Cain 00:49:12.21\00:49:14.25 keeps relatively silent about his crime. 00:49:14.28\00:49:16.42 We know he committed the crime 00:49:16.45\00:49:17.89 but there's not much talk about how he responds to that. 00:49:17.92\00:49:20.39 Then, by the time you get to Lamech, 00:49:20.42\00:49:22.02 Lamech seems to be boasting about it 00:49:22.06\00:49:23.63 in his words there at the end. 00:49:23.66\00:49:25.16 He's boasting about, "I killed this man... 00:49:25.19\00:49:26.90 I killed a young man... " 00:49:26.93\00:49:28.26 you can just see the heart of this... of this man. 00:49:28.30\00:49:29.86 Cain asks for mercy... 00:49:29.90\00:49:31.93 Lamech doesn't seem to be interested in mercy 00:49:31.97\00:49:34.44 because there's no record there of him calling out for mercy. 00:49:34.47\00:49:36.77 Cain is avenged seven times by God 00:49:36.81\00:49:38.87 but, of course, the lesson brings out 00:49:38.91\00:49:40.94 that Lamech knows... obviously knows he's guilty 00:49:40.98\00:49:43.35 but, of course, in his arrogance... 00:49:43.38\00:49:44.78 his arrogance leads him to declare that he's going to be 00:49:44.81\00:49:47.18 presumptuously, of course, avenged 77 times, right? 00:49:47.22\00:49:50.29 and then, of course, it also brings out that Cain 00:49:50.32\00:49:52.82 was monogamous and... you know, I've never... 00:49:52.85\00:49:55.36 I've read through this so many times 00:49:55.39\00:49:56.73 I never really looked back to find the origin of polygamy 00:49:56.76\00:50:00.13 but we see it right here with Lamech. 00:50:00.20\00:50:02.40 Lamech introduces us to polygamy 00:50:02.43\00:50:04.60 and we see that there in Genesis chapter 4:19 00:50:04.63\00:50:07.30 where he took two wives. 00:50:07.34\00:50:08.87 Now, take all of that into consideration 00:50:08.90\00:50:11.97 because immediately after this it starts to go into... 00:50:12.01\00:50:14.71 the latter couple of verses of chapter 4 where it talks about 00:50:14.74\00:50:17.51 Adam and Eve bore a new son. 00:50:17.55\00:50:19.48 Now, let's just set... set the groundwork here 00:50:19.51\00:50:21.92 before we get into this... this last section 00:50:21.98\00:50:24.32 and then into the beginning verses of Genesis 6. 00:50:24.35\00:50:26.69 It's important to understand 00:50:26.72\00:50:28.39 that all that's happening in chapter 4 and chapter 5, 00:50:28.42\00:50:31.83 is a result of what had already happened in Genesis 3. 00:50:31.86\00:50:35.20 Now, what I mean by this is 00:50:35.23\00:50:37.07 really, I've said this in many, many different lessons before 00:50:37.13\00:50:40.17 even many sermons that I preached, 00:50:40.20\00:50:41.54 one of the foundational... 00:50:41.57\00:50:42.90 if not the most foundational text in all the Bible 00:50:42.94\00:50:45.17 is Genesis 3:15. 00:50:45.21\00:50:46.98 So, let's be reminded of what Genesis 3:15 says, 00:50:47.01\00:50:49.71 it says... and this is Jesus speaking, 00:50:49.74\00:50:51.81 "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, 00:50:51.85\00:50:53.58 and between your seed and her Seed...
