Praise the Lord. 00:02:02.28\00:02:03.62 And to your left we have Miss Shelley Quinn. 00:02:03.65\00:02:05.39 You weren't with us the first three weeks, 00:02:05.42\00:02:07.16 you were with us last week for the first time. 00:02:07.19\00:02:08.76 It's good to have you back with us. 00:02:08.79\00:02:10.13 Uh, it's good to be here. 00:02:10.16\00:02:11.89 But I'm very excited. 00:02:11.93\00:02:13.93 Hebrews is one of my favorite books. 00:02:13.96\00:02:16.06 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:02:16.10\00:02:17.50 And then to your left is Pastor John Lomacang, 00:02:17.53\00:02:19.57 always a blessing to hear your words of wisdom, Brother. 00:02:19.60\00:02:22.10 Yes, mine is Entering into His rest 00:02:22.14\00:02:24.41 and we'll find out what that's all about in just a moment. 00:02:24.44\00:02:26.71 But Hebrews is a phenomenal book. 00:02:26.74\00:02:28.98 Yes, amen. 00:02:29.01\00:02:30.35 And, of course, Sister Jill Morikone, 00:02:30.38\00:02:32.78 Vice President and COO of 3ABN, 00:02:32.81\00:02:36.89 always a blessing to have you, Sister. 00:02:36.92\00:02:38.42 And I know you got a list for us. 00:02:38.45\00:02:39.82 I think we have a list. 00:02:39.85\00:02:41.19 We're talking about the Sabbath 00:02:41.22\00:02:42.56 and A Foretaste of New Creation. 00:02:42.59\00:02:43.93 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:02:43.96\00:02:45.43 Well, before we get right into our lesson, 00:02:45.46\00:02:47.40 I'm going to ask Miss Shelley Quinn 00:02:47.43\00:02:48.76 if you would have a prayer for us. 00:02:48.80\00:02:50.13 Absolutely. 00:02:50.17\00:02:51.50 Our gracious and loving Heavenly Father, 00:02:51.53\00:02:53.17 how we praise You for what You. 00:02:53.20\00:02:55.34 Your plan of salvation in what You have done 00:02:55.37\00:02:58.31 and are doing for us. 00:02:58.34\00:02:59.87 And we ask now for the panel 00:02:59.91\00:03:02.74 and all who are listening, send Your Holy Spirit. 00:03:02.78\00:03:05.61 Lord, teach us from Your Word. 00:03:05.65\00:03:08.32 We thank You for the revelation of who you are in Your Word, 00:03:08.35\00:03:13.32 in Jesus' name. 00:03:13.36\00:03:14.69 Amen. Amen. 00:03:14.72\00:03:16.06 Amen. 00:03:16.09\00:03:17.43 Our memory text for this week comes from Hebrews 4:9. 00:03:17.46\00:03:21.96 Very quick, very simple, little short, 00:03:22.00\00:03:24.07 but it's very powerful. 00:03:24.10\00:03:25.43 There remains there for a rest for the people of God. 00:03:25.47\00:03:30.34 And as the title implies that rest can only come 00:03:30.37\00:03:33.71 through and from Jesus Christ. 00:03:33.74\00:03:35.64 Hebrews 1 and 2, we've learned, 00:03:35.68\00:03:38.01 focused on the enthronement of Jesus as the ruler 00:03:38.05\00:03:41.58 and liberator of God's people. 00:03:41.62\00:03:43.69 Hebrews Chapter 3 and 4, 00:03:43.72\00:03:45.79 which we're going to continue in this week, 00:03:45.82\00:03:47.59 this week's lesson, introduce Jesus 00:03:47.62\00:03:50.06 as the one who will provide rest for us. 00:03:50.09\00:03:53.36 Of course, this progression makes sense 00:03:53.40\00:03:55.60 once we learn or remember 00:03:55.63\00:03:57.07 that the Davidic Covenant promised 00:03:57.10\00:03:59.03 that God would give the promised King 00:03:59.07\00:04:01.27 and his people 00:04:01.30\00:04:02.64 rest from their enemies. 00:04:02.67\00:04:04.11 And we can read that in 2 Samuel 7:10-11. 00:04:04.14\00:04:08.88 This rest is available to us now 00:04:08.91\00:04:10.75 that Jesus is seated at the right hand 00:04:10.78\00:04:13.35 of God and praise God 00:04:13.38\00:04:14.72 that Jesus has overcome 00:04:14.75\00:04:16.08 and is seated at the right hand of God. 00:04:16.12\00:04:17.82 Hebrews describes the rest 00:04:17.85\00:04:19.69 both as a rest that belongs to God, 00:04:19.72\00:04:22.16 and as a Sabbath rest. 00:04:22.19\00:04:23.93 And we're going to be reading that today in Hebrews 4:1-11. 00:04:23.96\00:04:28.06 God made this rest which was His, 00:04:28.10\00:04:30.87 available to Adam and Eve. 00:04:30.90\00:04:32.47 The first Sabbath 00:04:32.50\00:04:33.84 was the experience of perfection 00:04:33.87\00:04:35.40 with the one who made the perfection possible. 00:04:35.44\00:04:38.94 We learned that last week, right? 00:04:38.97\00:04:40.38 Jesus is perfect. 00:04:40.41\00:04:42.08 God also promises a Sabbath rest 00:04:42.11\00:04:44.61 because true Sabbath observance embodies the promise 00:04:44.65\00:04:48.18 that God will bring the perfection back. 00:04:48.22\00:04:51.85 When we keep the Sabbath, 00:04:51.89\00:04:53.56 we remember that God made perfect provision for us 00:04:53.59\00:04:56.39 when He created the world 00:04:56.42\00:04:57.96 and when He redeemed it at the Cross of Calvary. 00:04:57.99\00:05:01.33 True Sabbath observance, however, besides, 00:05:01.36\00:05:03.87 first and foremost, points us back to creation. 00:05:03.90\00:05:07.54 Offers us a foretaste in the imperfect world 00:05:07.57\00:05:10.41 of the future that God has promised. 00:05:10.44\00:05:13.07 That was a great opener for Sabbath afternoon's lesson 00:05:13.11\00:05:15.94 and that sets us up perfectly for Sunday, 00:05:15.98\00:05:18.15 and for the rest of this week. 00:05:18.18\00:05:19.51 We're going to get right into Sunday's lesson, 00:05:19.55\00:05:21.12 of course, entitled Land as a Place of Rest. 00:05:21.15\00:05:25.85 And the lesson actually starts us out 00:05:25.89\00:05:27.46 by taking us back to Genesis Chapter 15. 00:05:27.49\00:05:30.36 So we can go there, Genesis Chapter 15. 00:05:30.39\00:05:32.83 And we're going to be reminded of the promise 00:05:32.86\00:05:34.83 that God gave Abraham 00:05:34.86\00:05:36.20 because this promise, 00:05:36.23\00:05:37.57 of course, continues all the way through Scripture. 00:05:37.60\00:05:39.67 And very much, much of this promise is dependent 00:05:39.70\00:05:42.10 upon the response of the people to God. 00:05:42.14\00:05:44.24 And so notice what we find in Genesis 15:13-21. 00:05:44.27\00:05:49.74 The Bible says, "Then He said to Abram: 00:05:49.78\00:05:52.21 'Know certainly that your descendants 00:05:52.25\00:05:53.62 will be strangers in a land 00:05:53.65\00:05:55.32 that is not theirs, 00:05:55.35\00:05:56.85 and will serve them, 00:05:56.89\00:05:58.22 and they will afflict them four hundred years. 00:05:58.25\00:06:01.39 And also the nation whom they serve I will judge, 00:06:01.42\00:06:04.13 afterward they shall come out with great possessions. 00:06:04.16\00:06:08.10 Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace, 00:06:08.13\00:06:11.70 you shall be buried at a good old age. 00:06:11.73\00:06:14.74 But in the fourth generation they shall return here, 00:06:14.77\00:06:17.77 for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.'" 00:06:17.81\00:06:21.44 Verse 17, "And it came to pass, 00:06:21.48\00:06:24.65 when the sun went down and it was dark, 00:06:24.68\00:06:26.61 that behold, there appeared a smoking oven 00:06:26.65\00:06:29.52 and a burning torch 00:06:29.55\00:06:30.89 that passed between those pieces. 00:06:30.92\00:06:33.15 On the same day the Lord made a covenant 00:06:33.19\00:06:35.12 with Abram, saying: 00:06:35.16\00:06:37.23 'To your descendants I have given this land, 00:06:37.26\00:06:41.43 from the river of Egypt 00:06:41.46\00:06:42.83 to the great river of the River Euphrates." 00:06:42.86\00:06:45.50 And then He goes on to list all of these different ites, 00:06:45.53\00:06:48.77 "The Kenites, and the Kenezzites, 00:06:48.80\00:06:51.34 and the Kadmonites, 00:06:51.37\00:06:52.71 and the Hittites, and the Perizzites." 00:06:52.74\00:06:54.18 And it goes on in verse 21, "The Amorites, 00:06:54.21\00:06:56.04 the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, 00:06:56.08\00:06:58.68 and, of course, the Jebusites." 00:06:58.71\00:07:00.05 All of those ites, 00:07:00.08\00:07:01.42 they were possessing, the Lamb of God says, 00:07:01.45\00:07:02.78 I'm going to give you this land. 00:07:02.82\00:07:04.32 And, of course, God's purpose in giving the land to Israel 00:07:04.35\00:07:07.29 was not simply for them to possess it. 00:07:07.32\00:07:09.56 And we know that it's not just seem not, 00:07:09.59\00:07:10.93 it's not like God was like, 00:07:10.96\00:07:12.29 "Hey, I'm going to give you this land, 00:07:12.33\00:07:13.66 just go over there and possess it." 00:07:13.70\00:07:15.03 There was a purpose to this land. 00:07:15.06\00:07:16.40 And, of course, Exodus Chapter 19:4 00:07:16.43\00:07:18.10 brings out the purpose of 00:07:18.13\00:07:19.47 which God was going to give this land to them. 00:07:19.50\00:07:21.60 For if you read Exodus 19:4, it says, 00:07:21.64\00:07:23.81 "You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, 00:07:23.84\00:07:26.01 and how I bore you on eagles' wings, 00:07:26.04\00:07:28.34 and I brought you to Myself." 00:07:28.38\00:07:31.61 The purpose of this land was for covenant relationship, 00:07:31.65\00:07:35.25 to continue that covenant relationship 00:07:35.28\00:07:37.29 with His people. 00:07:37.32\00:07:38.65 God wanted them to live in the land 00:07:38.69\00:07:40.02 where they would be able to enjoy 00:07:40.06\00:07:41.82 an intimate relationship with Him without any hindrance, 00:07:41.86\00:07:45.79 and would also be a witness to the world 00:07:45.83\00:07:48.06 of who the true God was, 00:07:48.10\00:07:50.13 and what He offered His people like the Sabbath of creation, 00:07:50.17\00:07:55.00 the land of Canaan was a framework 00:07:55.04\00:07:56.64 that made possible 00:07:56.67\00:07:58.01 an intimate relationship with the Redeemer 00:07:58.04\00:07:59.74 and the enjoyment of His goodness. 00:07:59.77\00:08:02.54 But make no mistake, my friends, this land, 00:08:02.58\00:08:04.58 of course, did not come without certain conditions. 00:08:04.61\00:08:08.12 God says, "I want to give you this land. 00:08:08.15\00:08:09.48 But first, you got to do something first." 00:08:09.52\00:08:11.12 And we read about what that something is 00:08:11.15\00:08:13.12 in Deuteronomy 12:2-4. 00:08:13.15\00:08:15.99 Notice the instruction that God gave them. 00:08:16.02\00:08:17.96 He says, "I want you to inherit this land. 00:08:17.99\00:08:20.26 But first, you must do this for me." 00:08:20.30\00:08:22.13 Deuteronomy 12:2-4. 00:08:22.16\00:08:25.23 Notice what the Bible says here. 00:08:25.27\00:08:27.64 He says, "You shall utterly destroy all the places 00:08:27.67\00:08:31.71 where the nations 00:08:31.74\00:08:33.71 which you shall dispossess serve their gods, 00:08:33.74\00:08:38.15 on the high mountains, and on the hills, 00:08:38.18\00:08:41.05 and under every green tree, 00:08:41.08\00:08:43.49 and you shall destroy their altars, 00:08:43.52\00:08:45.82 breaking their sacred pillars, 00:08:45.85\00:08:47.79 and burn their wooden images with fire, 00:08:47.82\00:08:50.53 you shall cut down the carved images 00:08:50.56\00:08:52.63 of their gods, 00:08:52.66\00:08:54.00 and destroy their names from that place, 00:08:54.03\00:08:57.57 you shall not worship the Lord your God with such things." 00:08:57.60\00:09:01.90 Now, I love this, 00:09:01.94\00:09:03.27 because what God is saying to me, say, 00:09:03.30\00:09:04.64 look, I want to give you this holy land, 00:09:04.67\00:09:06.01 but in order for Me to give you this holy land, 00:09:06.04\00:09:07.68 which is really all about relationship with God, 00:09:07.71\00:09:10.21 He says, you got to do some inventory, 00:09:10.25\00:09:11.98 you got to take some inventory in your life. 00:09:12.01\00:09:13.62 And when you go in here, I want you to also cut down 00:09:13.65\00:09:16.32 and destroy all of these false idols, 00:09:16.35\00:09:18.19 all of these false gods, 00:09:18.22\00:09:19.55 which is representative of the enemy's deceptive 00:09:19.59\00:09:22.42 plan of sin. 00:09:22.46\00:09:23.86 And we also, a lesson to be learned here 00:09:23.89\00:09:25.73 that in order for us to inherit that beautiful, 00:09:25.76\00:09:28.23 perfect land of God, 00:09:28.26\00:09:29.60 we also got to do some self-examination 00:09:29.63\00:09:31.63 and tear down any altars 00:09:31.67\00:09:33.07 that don't belong there in our heart. 00:09:33.10\00:09:34.94 And I love that because, my friends, 00:09:34.97\00:09:36.54 if we're going to inherit God's kingdom, 00:09:36.57\00:09:38.37 God says, I want your whole heart. 00:09:38.41\00:09:40.31 I want all of you, I don't want a divided you. 00:09:40.34\00:09:42.88 I want all of you My people. 00:09:42.91\00:09:44.98 We are His people. 00:09:45.01\00:09:46.35 He has called us brethren, as we learned last week, 00:09:46.38\00:09:48.95 and He's not going to have a divided servant 00:09:48.98\00:09:51.42 among His kingdom. 00:09:51.45\00:09:52.79 Now the lesson goes on to do something quite interesting. 00:09:52.82\00:09:56.09 And it goes on to highlight how the Sabbath Commandment 00:09:56.12\00:10:00.06 actually commemorates two things. 00:10:00.10\00:10:02.56 And it's going to point out what those two things are 00:10:02.60\00:10:04.70 in our reference to Sabbath rest. 00:10:04.73\00:10:07.34 So let's go to Exodus Chapter 20 00:10:07.37\00:10:08.90 and let's read verses 8 through 11. 00:10:08.94\00:10:10.31 We've read this many times, 00:10:10.34\00:10:11.77 but we're going to go on from there 00:10:11.81\00:10:13.21 and also read Deuteronomy 5:12-15. 00:10:13.24\00:10:16.48 And you're going to see 00:10:16.51\00:10:17.85 that there are two different things 00:10:17.88\00:10:19.21 that God actually commemorates. 00:10:19.25\00:10:22.35 It actually just commemorated within the Sabbath Commandment, 00:10:22.38\00:10:24.92 two different things that it brings out, 00:10:24.95\00:10:26.55 that is very important for us to highlight and understand. 00:10:26.59\00:10:28.99 So Exodus 20:8-11. 00:10:29.02\00:10:31.63 We've read it many times 00:10:31.66\00:10:32.99 but this is the Lord's Sabbath Commandment. 00:10:33.03\00:10:34.80 Notice what it says. 00:10:34.83\00:10:36.16 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 00:10:36.20\00:10:39.37 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 00:10:39.40\00:10:43.20 but the seventh day is the Sabbath 00:10:43.24\00:10:45.24 of the Lord your God. 00:10:45.27\00:10:46.88 In it, you shall do no work, you, nor your son, 00:10:46.91\00:10:52.61 nor your daughter, nor your male servant, 00:10:52.65\00:10:55.15 nor your female servant, 00:10:55.18\00:10:56.55 nor your cattle, nor your stranger, 00:10:56.58\00:10:58.92 who is within your gates. 00:10:58.95\00:11:00.56 For in six days, the Lord made the heavens and the earth, 00:11:00.59\00:11:03.29 and the sea, and all that in them is 00:11:03.32\00:11:05.56 and rested the seventh day. 00:11:05.59\00:11:07.63 Therefore the Lord blessed 00:11:07.66\00:11:09.36 the Sabbath day and hallowed it." 00:11:09.40\00:11:11.73 Now the lesson prompts us to read that 00:11:11.77\00:11:13.54 and now compare that 00:11:13.57\00:11:14.90 to Deuteronomy 5:12-15. 00:11:14.94\00:11:19.14 So notice what the Bible teaches us here. 00:11:19.17\00:11:20.68 This is Deuteronomy 5:12-15. 00:11:20.71\00:11:24.18 It says, "Observe the Sabbath day, 00:11:24.21\00:11:26.61 to keep it holy, 00:11:26.65\00:11:28.82 as the Lord your God commanded you. 00:11:28.85\00:11:31.59 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 00:11:31.62\00:11:36.52 but the seventh day is the Sabbath 00:11:36.56\00:11:38.43 of the Lord your God. 00:11:38.46\00:11:40.13 In it, you shall not do no work, 00:11:40.16\00:11:43.60 you, nor your son, nor your daughter, 00:11:43.63\00:11:46.23 nor your male servant, nor your female servant, 00:11:46.27\00:11:48.90 nor your ox, nor your donkey, 00:11:48.94\00:11:51.11 nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger, 00:11:51.14\00:11:53.68 who is within your gates, 00:11:53.71\00:11:55.48 that your male servant, 00:11:55.51\00:11:56.85 and your female servant may rest, 00:11:56.88\00:11:59.31 as well as you." 00:11:59.35\00:12:00.68 I just want to pause there and just highlight the fact 00:12:00.72\00:12:02.45 that God does not also want to give us rest. 00:12:02.48\00:12:05.65 But it also, right there within the commandment, 00:12:05.69\00:12:07.76 He wants us to give rest to others. 00:12:07.79\00:12:10.16 That's an important part, my friends, 00:12:10.19\00:12:11.53 in order for us to enter into the rest of Christ, 00:12:11.56\00:12:13.86 which we're going to build on 00:12:13.90\00:12:15.23 and learn more about in the study. 00:12:15.26\00:12:16.60 My friends, it's vitally important 00:12:16.63\00:12:17.97 that we hone in on what the commandment 00:12:18.00\00:12:19.47 is actually teaching here. 00:12:19.50\00:12:21.00 Number one is that God wants us to rest, 00:12:21.04\00:12:23.61 and number two, He wants us 00:12:23.64\00:12:24.97 to allow others to rest as well. 00:12:25.01\00:12:27.24 That's vitally important. 00:12:27.28\00:12:29.41 And then verse 15, it goes on to say, 00:12:29.44\00:12:31.38 "And remember that you are a slave 00:12:31.41\00:12:33.72 in the land of Egypt, 00:12:33.75\00:12:35.92 and that the Lord your God, that you, 00:12:35.95\00:12:38.82 notice, He brought you out from there by a mighty hand, 00:12:38.85\00:12:42.16 and by an outstretched arm, 00:12:42.19\00:12:44.33 therefore the Lord your God commanded you 00:12:44.36\00:12:47.40 to keep the Sabbath day." 00:12:47.43\00:12:51.10 The lesson brings us out the two things here, 00:12:51.13\00:12:53.10 and we see it very clearly, 00:12:53.13\00:12:54.47 if you just simply hone in on what the details 00:12:54.50\00:12:56.34 of the commandment is actually saying. 00:12:56.37\00:12:58.27 Creation and redemption 00:12:58.31\00:13:01.31 are both enshrined in the Sabbath Commandment. 00:13:01.34\00:13:04.71 Just as we did not create ourselves, 00:13:04.75\00:13:07.72 we cannot also redeem ourselves. 00:13:07.75\00:13:10.39 It is a work that only God can do. 00:13:10.42\00:13:13.02 And by resting we acknowledge our dependence upon Him, 00:13:13.05\00:13:16.62 not only for existence, but for salvation. 00:13:16.66\00:13:20.60 Sabbath keeping is a powerful expression 00:13:20.63\00:13:23.37 of salvation by faith alone. 00:13:23.40\00:13:26.37 When we are keeping God's holy day, His Sabbath, 00:13:26.40\00:13:29.44 then we are expressing our faith in Him alone, 00:13:29.47\00:13:32.24 because we recognize that we cannot save ourselves, 00:13:32.27\00:13:35.18 only Christ, the true giver of rest. 00:13:35.21\00:13:38.15 And oftentimes, when we think of Sabbath rest, 00:13:38.18\00:13:40.22 we often think of that literal, physical rest. 00:13:40.25\00:13:43.08 And absolutely as we see the details there, 00:13:43.12\00:13:45.32 when we rest, we rest physically, 00:13:45.35\00:13:47.32 literally and physically on the Sabbath day 00:13:47.36\00:13:49.49 from all of our labors. 00:13:49.52\00:13:50.86 But make no mistake about it, my friends, 00:13:50.89\00:13:52.26 the Sabbath was given for the purpose 00:13:52.29\00:13:54.40 of communion with God. 00:13:54.43\00:13:56.20 It was given for a relationship purpose. 00:13:56.23\00:13:58.77 It's not that God is saying, 00:13:58.80\00:14:00.14 "I just want you to work all this time, 00:14:00.17\00:14:01.50 and then rest physically." 00:14:01.54\00:14:02.87 Of course, that's an added bonus, 00:14:02.90\00:14:04.54 but more importantly, to spend time with Him, 00:14:04.57\00:14:06.64 to commune with Him 00:14:06.68\00:14:08.11 as our God so that we can take time 00:14:08.14\00:14:10.68 to grow and to learn of His goodwill, 00:14:10.71\00:14:12.98 to learn of His plan of redemption, 00:14:13.01\00:14:15.02 to learn of His grace, 00:14:15.05\00:14:16.45 so that we might also bask in that grace 00:14:16.48\00:14:19.29 and be able to say, 00:14:19.32\00:14:20.66 "You are our God." 00:14:20.69\00:14:22.02 And so, my friends, it's important 00:14:22.06\00:14:23.39 that through today's lesson, 00:14:23.43\00:14:24.76 through Sunday's lesson, 00:14:24.79\00:14:26.13 the land was not just given 00:14:26.16\00:14:27.53 just so that they would have a place to possess, 00:14:27.56\00:14:29.66 but it was given so that we might also have 00:14:29.70\00:14:32.27 a deeper covenant relationship 00:14:32.30\00:14:34.27 with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:14:34.30\00:14:36.20 Amen. Amen. 00:14:36.24\00:14:37.57 Amen. 00:14:37.61\00:14:38.94 Well, my name is John Dinzey, 00:14:38.97\00:14:40.31 we continue with Monday's portion 00:14:40.34\00:14:41.68 of the lesson. 00:14:41.71\00:14:43.04 And this takes us to the title, Because of Unbelief, 00:14:43.08\00:14:47.28 Because of Unbelief. 00:14:47.32\00:14:48.98 The lesson focuses in on Hebrews 3:12-19. 00:14:49.02\00:14:54.46 In it, it tells us about an experience that happened 00:14:54.49\00:14:58.59 in the Book of Numbers Chapter 13 and Chapter 14. 00:14:58.63\00:15:03.43 And I'm going to, for sake of time, 00:15:03.47\00:15:05.37 I'm not able to read all this, 00:15:05.40\00:15:06.77 but I'm going to give you a little background 00:15:06.80\00:15:08.17 then read a few verses. 00:15:08.20\00:15:09.70 In Numbers Chapter 13, 00:15:09.74\00:15:11.27 they were very close to the Promised Land. 00:15:11.31\00:15:13.84 And the idea of sending spies into the land 00:15:13.88\00:15:18.21 was presented and rulers of the people, 00:15:18.25\00:15:21.15 these were leaders of the people that 00:15:21.18\00:15:23.02 were chosen to go spy the land 00:15:23.05\00:15:25.75 and see what kind of land that is, 00:15:25.79\00:15:28.42 what kind of people live there, 00:15:28.46\00:15:29.79 how fortified is the land, 00:15:29.82\00:15:32.99 how big of a challenge is this for us? 00:15:33.03\00:15:35.80 Now let's go to Numbers 13, beginning of verse 17. 00:15:35.83\00:15:39.87 "Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, 00:15:39.90\00:15:43.37 and said to them, 'Go up this way into the South, 00:15:43.41\00:15:46.84 and go up to the mountains and see what the land is like: 00:15:46.88\00:15:50.31 whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, 00:15:50.35\00:15:53.62 few or many, whether the land they dwell in is good or bad, 00:15:53.65\00:15:58.25 whether the cities they inhabit are like camps or strongholds, 00:15:58.29\00:16:02.29 whether the land is rich or poor, 00:16:02.32\00:16:04.26 and whether there are forest there or not." 00:16:04.29\00:16:07.23 And notice, "Be of good courage 00:16:07.26\00:16:09.06 and bring some of the fruit of the land. 00:16:09.10\00:16:11.40 Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes." 00:16:11.43\00:16:15.20 And so they went into the land, 00:16:15.24\00:16:17.01 and went spying out of the whole land 00:16:17.04\00:16:20.51 to see what kind of land was like. 00:16:20.54\00:16:22.78 And 12 of them went. 00:16:22.81\00:16:25.18 And now we go to Numbers Chapter 14. 00:16:25.21\00:16:28.22 Yes, Numbers 14, and beginning in verse 7 and 9. 00:16:31.85\00:16:37.06 They came back to with an evil report, 00:16:37.09\00:16:39.76 actually in the end of Chapter 13, 00:16:39.79\00:16:42.00 they came back with the report, 00:16:42.03\00:16:43.37 the land is wonderful, it flows with milk and honey, 00:16:43.40\00:16:46.50 and they brought some of the fruit 00:16:46.53\00:16:48.07 and it was wonderful fruit. 00:16:48.10\00:16:51.17 But then they started to say, 00:16:51.21\00:16:52.94 "Oh, the people of Anak are there, 00:16:52.97\00:16:55.44 and the Jebusites, 00:16:55.48\00:16:57.75 the Amalekites dwell on the land of South, 00:16:57.78\00:16:59.65 the Hittites, the Jebusites, 00:16:59.68\00:17:01.02 and the Amorites dwell in the mountains, 00:17:01.05\00:17:02.58 and the Canaanites dwell by the sea 00:17:02.62\00:17:04.15 along the banks of the Jordan." 00:17:04.19\00:17:06.02 And verse 30 says of Chapter 13, 00:17:06.05\00:17:08.32 "Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, 00:17:08.36\00:17:11.96 'Let us go up at once and take possession, 00:17:11.99\00:17:14.80 for we are well able to overcome it.' 00:17:14.83\00:17:18.57 But the men who had gone up with him said, 00:17:18.60\00:17:20.87 'We are not able to go up against the people, 00:17:20.90\00:17:22.97 for they are stronger than we. 00:17:23.00\00:17:26.21 And they gave children of Israel 00:17:26.24\00:17:28.38 a bad report of the land 00:17:28.41\00:17:29.74 which they had spied out, saying, 00:17:29.78\00:17:31.11 'The land through which we have gone 00:17:31.15\00:17:33.28 as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, 00:17:33.31\00:17:36.42 and all the people whom we saw in it 00:17:36.45\00:17:38.32 are men of great stature.'" 00:17:38.35\00:17:40.16 Everybody became afraid. 00:17:40.19\00:17:41.92 Everybody started to weep and say, 00:17:41.96\00:17:44.16 "Oh, man, this is horrible. 00:17:44.19\00:17:47.16 Let's go back to Egypt." 00:17:47.20\00:17:48.53 And so they wanted to pick leaders 00:17:48.56\00:17:50.07 and go back to Egypt. 00:17:50.10\00:17:51.60 In Numbers, Chapter 14, 00:17:51.63\00:17:52.97 as I mentioned before, 7 through 9, 00:17:53.00\00:17:54.87 "And they spake all the congregation 00:17:54.90\00:17:56.84 of the children of Israel, saying: 00:17:56.87\00:17:58.21 'The land we passed through to spy out 00:17:58.24\00:18:00.41 is an exceedingly good land. 00:18:00.44\00:18:02.58 If the Lord delights in us, 00:18:02.61\00:18:04.31 then He will bring us into this land 00:18:04.35\00:18:06.41 and give it to us.'" 00:18:06.45\00:18:07.78 This is Caleb and Joshua speaking, 00:18:07.82\00:18:09.35 "A land which flows with milk and honey. 00:18:09.38\00:18:11.89 Only do not rebel against the Lord, 00:18:11.92\00:18:14.82 nor fear the people of the land, 00:18:14.86\00:18:16.86 for they are our bread, 00:18:16.89\00:18:20.90 their protection has departed from them, 00:18:20.93\00:18:22.83 and the Lord is with us. 00:18:22.86\00:18:24.20 Do not fear them." 00:18:24.23\00:18:25.57 See, these people of the land that God promised them. 00:18:25.60\00:18:29.00 They have been given time to repent. 00:18:29.04\00:18:32.34 And if you go to the Book of Genesis, 00:18:32.37\00:18:33.94 you notice that Abraham was promised 00:18:33.98\00:18:36.58 that his seed will take over all this land. 00:18:36.61\00:18:39.25 They were given over 400 years 00:18:39.28\00:18:41.38 to give their hearts to the Lord, 00:18:41.42\00:18:44.79 to live according to the Lord's ways. 00:18:44.82\00:18:47.46 But these people had departed from the Lord, 00:18:47.49\00:18:49.52 and this is why Caleb and Joshua say 00:18:49.56\00:18:52.29 their defense has departed from them. 00:18:52.33\00:18:54.36 And now the Lord was going to give this land 00:18:54.40\00:18:56.50 to the people of Israel. 00:18:56.53\00:18:58.47 Unfortunately, the people of Israel 00:18:58.50\00:19:01.20 did not listen to Caleb and Joshua. 00:19:01.24\00:19:03.14 And in Numbers 14:10, it says, 00:19:03.17\00:19:06.27 "And all the congregation said to stone them with stones. 00:19:06.31\00:19:10.01 Now the glory of the Lord 00:19:10.05\00:19:11.38 appeared in the tabernacle of the meeting 00:19:11.41\00:19:13.42 before all the people of Israel." 00:19:13.45\00:19:15.05 So this became a point for the people of Israel 00:19:15.08\00:19:20.29 that determined what was going to happen to them. 00:19:20.32\00:19:22.79 In fact, the Lord was angry with them, 00:19:22.82\00:19:25.03 because these people had over and over again 00:19:25.06\00:19:28.00 showed unbelief. 00:19:28.03\00:19:29.36 They did not believe in God, 00:19:29.40\00:19:30.73 even though God had done great miracles among them, 00:19:30.77\00:19:34.17 they did not believe. 00:19:34.20\00:19:36.74 Now, in this particular Chapter 14, 00:19:36.77\00:19:40.91 we see how the Lord speaks. 00:19:40.94\00:19:43.01 Moses appealed to God to forgive the people 00:19:43.04\00:19:45.58 and not to destroy them 00:19:45.61\00:19:47.28 because they were deserving of that. 00:19:47.32\00:19:49.82 In Numbers 14:20 and onward, it says, "Then the Lord said: 00:19:49.85\00:19:53.62 'I have pardoned, according to your word, 00:19:53.66\00:19:55.82 but truly, as I live, 00:19:55.86\00:19:57.19 all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord 00:19:57.23\00:20:01.16 because all these men who have seen My glory 00:20:01.20\00:20:04.13 and the signs which I did in Egypt 00:20:04.17\00:20:06.17 and in the wilderness, 00:20:06.20\00:20:07.54 and have put Me to the test now these ten times, 00:20:07.57\00:20:10.84 and have not heeded My voice, 00:20:10.87\00:20:13.54 they certainly shall not see the land 00:20:13.58\00:20:15.54 of which I swore to their fathers, 00:20:15.58\00:20:17.41 nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it." 00:20:17.45\00:20:20.82 And as you see, the Lord promises 00:20:20.85\00:20:22.58 that only Caleb and Joshua 00:20:22.62\00:20:24.82 will enter into this Promised Land. 00:20:24.85\00:20:27.36 And Hebrews 3:12, and onward, notice what the Bible says 00:20:27.39\00:20:32.36 concerning this situation that happened in Kadesh Barnea. 00:20:32.39\00:20:38.07 "Take heed, brethren..." Now He's talking. 00:20:38.10\00:20:40.17 Now this is appealing to the people 00:20:40.20\00:20:41.94 that are reading the Book of Hebrews, 00:20:41.97\00:20:43.34 and that includes you and I. 00:20:43.37\00:20:44.71 "Take heed brethren, 00:20:44.74\00:20:46.07 lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, 00:20:46.11\00:20:50.15 in departing from the living God." 00:20:50.18\00:20:52.48 And notice how it says, "But exhort one another daily, 00:20:52.51\00:20:56.12 while it is called today, 00:20:56.15\00:20:57.59 lest any of you be hardened 00:20:57.62\00:20:59.82 through the deceitfulness of sin." 00:20:59.85\00:21:02.16 Now I want to focus in on this verse 12 00:21:02.19\00:21:05.06 for a moment. 00:21:05.09\00:21:06.43 It says, "Exhort one another daily." 00:21:06.46\00:21:07.80 As brothers and sisters, 00:21:07.83\00:21:09.36 we should be exhorting one another 00:21:09.40\00:21:11.20 and it says here daily. 00:21:11.23\00:21:12.57 We should be encouraging one another 00:21:12.60\00:21:14.20 to trust and believe in the Lord 00:21:14.24\00:21:16.44 and follow the Lord 00:21:16.47\00:21:17.81 and not to let the world sway us and lead us astray. 00:21:17.84\00:21:22.31 Notice verse 14, 00:21:22.34\00:21:23.68 "For we are made partakers of Christ 00:21:23.71\00:21:26.21 if we hold the beginning of our confidence 00:21:26.25\00:21:30.49 steadfast unto the end." 00:21:30.52\00:21:32.22 We are made partakers of Christ and all the promises 00:21:32.25\00:21:36.09 that God has in the Holy Scriptures 00:21:36.12\00:21:38.63 will be given to us. 00:21:38.66\00:21:40.23 And now, verse 15, "While it is said: 'Today, 00:21:40.26\00:21:43.43 if you hear His voice, hardened not your heart, 00:21:43.47\00:21:46.80 as in the day of provocation." 00:21:46.84\00:21:49.37 Verse 14 and 15, speak to us 00:21:49.40\00:21:53.07 about the opportunities that are before us. 00:21:53.11\00:21:56.31 And, but going back to verse 13, 00:21:56.34\00:21:58.01 I want to say something 00:21:58.05\00:21:59.38 because something is brought out very interesting. 00:21:59.41\00:22:00.95 It says here, "Lest any of you be hardened 00:22:00.98\00:22:04.42 through the deceitfulness of sin." 00:22:04.45\00:22:07.16 Sin hardens our hearts towards God. 00:22:07.19\00:22:10.49 And this is why we are encouraged, admonished, 00:22:10.53\00:22:15.23 to put away sin and follow the Lord. 00:22:15.26\00:22:19.93 Notice verse 16, " For some, when they had heard, 00:22:19.97\00:22:22.47 did provoke: 00:22:22.50\00:22:24.07 howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses." 00:22:24.11\00:22:27.21 Caleb and Joshua, 00:22:27.24\00:22:29.24 Moses and Aaron followed the Lord into the land. 00:22:29.28\00:22:33.31 Moses, by the way, did not because of his sin 00:22:33.35\00:22:35.88 that he did sometime later, 00:22:35.92\00:22:37.92 but he was able to see it from afar. 00:22:37.95\00:22:39.72 And the Lord did something marvelous for Moses, 00:22:39.75\00:22:41.96 he was resurrected, 00:22:41.99\00:22:43.32 and he went to see the better land 00:22:43.36\00:22:45.53 that we have not seen, 00:22:45.56\00:22:47.03 but we will see if we stay steadfast 00:22:47.06\00:22:49.60 until the end. 00:22:49.63\00:22:50.97 Notice verse 17, "But with whom Moses, 00:22:51.00\00:22:52.87 but with whom was he grieved forty years? 00:22:52.90\00:22:54.84 Was it not with them that had sinned, 00:22:54.87\00:22:56.87 whose carcasses fell in the wilderness? 00:22:56.91\00:22:58.91 And to whom sware he that 00:22:58.94\00:23:00.44 they should not enter into his rest, 00:23:00.48\00:23:04.95 but to them that believed not? 00:23:04.98\00:23:08.05 So we see that they could not enter in 00:23:08.08\00:23:10.82 because of unbelief." 00:23:10.85\00:23:12.19 Because of unbelief, 00:23:12.22\00:23:13.62 the people of Israel 00:23:13.66\00:23:14.99 were not able to go into the land. 00:23:15.02\00:23:17.13 They forfeited the right, the privilege, 00:23:17.16\00:23:19.66 it was their children 00:23:19.69\00:23:21.46 that were able to enter into the land. 00:23:21.50\00:23:24.00 Now I have something to share with you 00:23:24.03\00:23:26.03 from the book Evangelism, 00:23:26.07\00:23:27.40 page 696, which focuses in on you and me. 00:23:27.44\00:23:32.84 "For 40 years did unbelief, 00:23:32.87\00:23:35.28 murmuring and rebellion shut out ancient Israel 00:23:35.31\00:23:39.21 from the land of Canaan. 00:23:39.25\00:23:41.22 The same sins have delayed the entrance of modern Israel 00:23:41.25\00:23:46.22 into heavenly Canaan. 00:23:46.25\00:23:48.42 In neither case were the promises 00:23:48.46\00:23:50.73 of God at fault. 00:23:50.76\00:23:52.09 It is the unbelief, 00:23:52.13\00:23:53.86 the worldliness on consecration and strife 00:23:53.90\00:23:57.93 among the Lord's professed people 00:23:57.97\00:23:59.57 that have kept us in this world of sin 00:23:59.60\00:24:02.67 and sorrow for so many years." 00:24:02.70\00:24:06.17 Evangelism, 696. 00:24:06.21\00:24:08.58 And I encourage you to let go the unbelief, 00:24:08.61\00:24:12.15 let go of the worldliness 00:24:12.18\00:24:13.98 because this is what's keeping God's people here, 00:24:14.02\00:24:16.82 and there's strife among God's people. 00:24:16.85\00:24:19.25 Let us unite ourselves with the Lord 00:24:19.29\00:24:22.22 so that these things don't hinder us 00:24:22.26\00:24:24.56 from accomplishing the work that God has set before us, 00:24:24.59\00:24:27.60 because the Lord has a land 00:24:27.63\00:24:30.17 that is much better than anything upon this earth 00:24:30.20\00:24:32.73 that He promises to those that are faithful. 00:24:32.77\00:24:34.90 And I encourage you to trust in the Lord 00:24:34.94\00:24:37.41 and follow the Lord with all of your heart. 00:24:37.44\00:24:39.81 Amen. Thank you, Pastor Dinzey. 00:24:39.84\00:24:43.11 Well, my friends, don't go anywhere, 00:24:43.14\00:24:44.68 we're going to take a short break, 00:24:44.71\00:24:46.21 and we'll be right back in Sabbath School Panel. 00:25:24.99\00:25:26.49 We're going to kick it over to Miss Shelley Quinn 00:25:26.52\00:25:28.52 for Tuesday's lesson. 00:25:28.56\00:25:29.89 Oh, I love Tuesday's lesson. 00:25:29.92\00:25:32.36 And it is entitled, Today, If You Hear His Voice. 00:25:32.39\00:25:36.67 Let's read Hebrews 4:4. 00:25:36.70\00:25:39.47 "For He, speaking of God, 00:25:39.50\00:25:41.20 has spoken in a certain place 00:25:41.24\00:25:43.51 of the seventh day in this way. 00:25:43.54\00:25:47.24 And God rested on the seventh day 00:25:47.28\00:25:50.28 from all of His works." 00:25:50.31\00:25:53.58 That's Genesis 2:2 that it's quoting. 00:25:53.62\00:25:57.09 You know, Isaiah 40:28 says 00:25:57.12\00:26:01.86 our Creator God neither faints nor grow weary. 00:26:01.89\00:26:06.09 God wasn't tired when He rested. 00:26:06.13\00:26:10.10 He rested from the work of creation 00:26:10.13\00:26:13.84 so that He could begin this covenant relationship 00:26:13.87\00:26:17.67 with man and the woman 00:26:17.71\00:26:19.81 that He had created on the sixth day. 00:26:19.84\00:26:22.48 So everything is complete. 00:26:22.51\00:26:25.31 God has everything in order. 00:26:25.35\00:26:27.92 And He ceased His work as an example for us. 00:26:27.95\00:26:31.75 But God is still working today. 00:26:31.79\00:26:34.66 Some people think God created and stepped away. 00:26:34.69\00:26:37.19 No, no, no. 00:26:37.23\00:26:38.56 Jesus said in John 5:17, 00:26:38.59\00:26:40.73 "My Father has been working until now, 00:26:40.76\00:26:45.17 and I have been working." 00:26:45.20\00:26:48.04 So now if we look at Hebrews 4:5, 00:26:48.07\00:26:51.44 when it says, we're following up that 00:26:51.47\00:26:53.44 God rested on the seventh day from all His work, 00:26:53.48\00:26:56.81 but then again, in this place, 00:26:56.85\00:27:01.25 now Hebrews 4:5 00:27:01.28\00:27:02.88 quotes something from the Psalms. 00:27:02.92\00:27:05.55 It says, "They shall not enter my rest." 00:27:05.59\00:27:08.32 You see, all day long, 00:27:08.36\00:27:10.39 God had been stretching out His hand 00:27:10.43\00:27:12.89 to this rebellious nation in the wilderness. 00:27:12.93\00:27:17.43 And He performed miracle after miracle, 00:27:17.47\00:27:20.10 and they resisted Him and rejected Him 10 times. 00:27:20.14\00:27:24.11 And finally, He says, "Fine, 00:27:24.14\00:27:26.54 I sent the spies in for 40 days, 00:27:26.57\00:27:29.08 you're going to have to wander in the wilderness for 40 years 00:27:29.11\00:27:33.35 till this first generation of unbelievers falls off." 00:27:33.38\00:27:38.49 One day for year, I mean, a year for each day. 00:27:38.52\00:27:41.69 "And the second generation 00:27:41.72\00:27:43.73 is the one that's going to go in." 00:27:43.76\00:27:46.03 So they had hardened their hearts, 00:27:46.06\00:27:48.86 they would not obey, 00:27:48.90\00:27:50.27 and, you know, we don't understand 00:27:50.30\00:27:54.04 obedience is the highest expression 00:27:54.07\00:27:57.17 of worship there is. 00:27:57.21\00:27:59.37 If you love God, 00:27:59.41\00:28:01.68 you will not harden your heart, 00:28:01.71\00:28:04.28 but you will submit to Him. 00:28:04.31\00:28:06.21 So what was the result 00:28:06.25\00:28:09.32 of Israel's hardened heart, 00:28:09.35\00:28:12.69 and the result of their rejection? 00:28:12.72\00:28:15.29 They didn't get to have to enjoy the promises of God. 00:28:15.32\00:28:19.49 The Promised Land was withdrawn from them. 00:28:19.53\00:28:22.23 And Joshua led the second generation 00:28:22.26\00:28:24.63 into the Promised Land. 00:28:24.67\00:28:26.00 But even then, the people were still, 00:28:26.03\00:28:29.90 they entered a physical rest, 00:28:29.94\00:28:32.01 they got to a place 00:28:32.04\00:28:33.61 where they didn't have the wandering, 00:28:33.64\00:28:35.81 but they refused the spiritual rest. 00:28:35.84\00:28:40.38 See, God offered them rest in several ways. 00:28:40.42\00:28:43.95 It said to find rest, a life in the Promised Land, 00:28:43.99\00:28:48.22 a life through the transformation 00:28:48.26\00:28:50.63 of character, 00:28:50.66\00:28:52.16 by walking in obedience to Him, 00:28:52.19\00:28:54.50 and a life with purpose. 00:28:54.53\00:28:56.80 They were to be the light to the world 00:28:56.83\00:28:59.87 to explain God's ways. 00:28:59.90\00:29:02.70 But when they refused 00:29:02.74\00:29:05.97 this covenant relationship, 00:29:06.01\00:29:09.18 we still, we know that because years later, 00:29:09.21\00:29:13.42 we see that in the days of David, 00:29:13.45\00:29:17.19 this was several centuries later, 00:29:17.22\00:29:20.06 God's still inviting them into His spiritual rest. 00:29:20.09\00:29:24.16 Now, Hebrews 4:6-7, continuing on, 00:29:24.19\00:29:30.03 this is what the Bible says, 00:29:30.07\00:29:32.50 "Since therefore, 00:29:32.53\00:29:34.74 it remains that some must enter it. 00:29:34.77\00:29:37.91 And those to whom it was first preached 00:29:37.94\00:29:40.31 did not enter because of disobedience." 00:29:40.34\00:29:44.81 I'm going to pause. 00:29:44.85\00:29:46.85 Grace is not a license to sin. 00:29:46.88\00:29:50.59 Some people think that salvation 00:29:50.62\00:29:52.52 by grace through faith 00:29:52.55\00:29:53.89 means you can do whatever you want 00:29:53.92\00:29:56.46 and still go to heaven. 00:29:56.49\00:29:57.83 Right here it says that first generation 00:29:57.86\00:30:00.83 did not enter because of sin. 00:30:00.86\00:30:04.63 And then verse 7 says, "Since because of this, 00:30:04.67\00:30:08.20 again, He designates a certain day, 00:30:08.24\00:30:12.17 saying in David, today, 00:30:12.21\00:30:16.21 after such a long time, as it has been said, 00:30:16.24\00:30:20.35 'Today, if you will hear His voice, 00:30:20.38\00:30:25.62 do not harden your hearts.'" 00:30:25.65\00:30:27.06 Boy, there's some urgency in that. 00:30:27.09\00:30:29.06 Don't wait, today. 00:30:29.09\00:30:31.66 And He says in Exodus 34:6, 00:30:31.69\00:30:36.50 let me just read this 00:30:36.53\00:30:37.87 because ancient Israel 00:30:37.90\00:30:41.10 refused God's promise. 00:30:41.14\00:30:43.77 They wouldn't enter in. 00:30:43.81\00:30:46.01 But Exodus 34:6 says, "God is merciful, 00:30:46.04\00:30:49.58 gracious, long suffering, abundant in goodness." 00:30:49.61\00:30:54.45 That's who our God is. 00:30:54.48\00:30:56.45 2 Peter 3:9, says, 00:30:56.48\00:31:00.22 "That He is not willing that any should perish, 00:31:00.26\00:31:04.29 but that all should come to repentance." 00:31:04.33\00:31:07.73 So He's still calling out, 00:31:07.76\00:31:10.27 you know, the day of salvation began 00:31:10.30\00:31:13.97 when Adam fell. 00:31:14.00\00:31:16.00 And it's going to end at the close of probation. 00:31:16.04\00:31:19.67 But you don't know when the day of salvation 00:31:19.71\00:31:21.81 will pass you by 00:31:21.84\00:31:23.18 because nobody is promised tomorrow. 00:31:23.21\00:31:26.08 So, you know, I think 00:31:26.11\00:31:28.22 of Luke 16:14-26. 00:31:28.25\00:31:33.36 Remember the repeated invitation 00:31:33.39\00:31:35.66 to the banquet, 00:31:35.69\00:31:37.03 we're not going to turn there. 00:31:37.06\00:31:39.29 But God is inviting people, and if those reject, 00:31:39.33\00:31:45.13 He's going to invite others, He's going to... 00:31:45.17\00:31:47.64 He's inviting everyone. 00:31:47.67\00:31:49.67 So verse 8, in Psalm 95:7-8, 00:31:49.70\00:31:54.18 when it was talking to David saying, 00:31:54.21\00:31:55.91 today if you hear His voice, 00:31:55.94\00:31:57.51 don't harden your hearts. 00:31:57.55\00:32:00.98 Hebrews 4:8, says, "If Joshua, 00:32:01.02\00:32:06.25 who led that generation into the Promised Land, 00:32:06.29\00:32:09.99 had given them rest, 00:32:10.03\00:32:12.99 then God would not afterward have spoken 00:32:13.03\00:32:17.47 of another day." 00:32:17.50\00:32:19.30 The eternal purpose of God is for us 00:32:19.33\00:32:21.94 to enter a spiritual rest 00:32:21.97\00:32:23.91 in which we quit trying to save ourselves. 00:32:23.94\00:32:26.98 You know, I'm telling you, 00:32:27.01\00:32:29.54 I, for the first 50 years of my life, 00:32:29.58\00:32:33.05 I would do my best to save myself, 00:32:33.08\00:32:36.35 because I didn't understand grace. 00:32:36.38\00:32:38.35 I didn't understand that God would empower me 00:32:38.39\00:32:41.56 to walk in obedience, 00:32:41.59\00:32:43.16 I didn't understand God's plan. 00:32:43.19\00:32:45.53 And there is no rest. 00:32:45.56\00:32:48.43 You strive hard, you feel guilty, 00:32:48.46\00:32:50.63 you kind of distance yourself from God, 00:32:50.67\00:32:52.67 you strive, just strive distance. 00:32:52.70\00:32:56.71 Joshua only lead the people into the physical rest, 00:32:56.74\00:32:59.54 the spiritual rest is found only in Jesus Christ, 00:32:59.57\00:33:04.61 He alone. 00:33:04.65\00:33:06.35 Now, when you think about this, 00:33:06.38\00:33:09.98 Christ said that Abraham saw My day, 00:33:10.02\00:33:12.99 and he was glad. 00:33:13.02\00:33:14.52 Abraham knew 00:33:14.56\00:33:16.22 that Jesus was going to be sacrificed for us. 00:33:16.26\00:33:19.66 And all of the Jews were that was passed on. 00:33:19.69\00:33:25.60 They all understood God's plan. 00:33:25.63\00:33:27.74 So they were saved through 00:33:27.77\00:33:32.64 the sacrificial system that pointed to Christ, 00:33:32.67\00:33:35.94 it was everything looking forward, 00:33:35.98\00:33:37.71 they were forgiven. 00:33:37.75\00:33:39.75 We're offered the same spiritual rest 00:33:39.78\00:33:43.35 by looking back at Christ's crucifixion. 00:33:43.39\00:33:47.12 His ministry is superior, 00:33:47.16\00:33:50.19 it is God incarnated in the person of Jesus Christ 00:33:50.23\00:33:56.16 now sits as a new representative 00:33:56.20\00:33:58.80 of mankind at the right hand of the throne of the Father. 00:33:58.83\00:34:02.20 As our High Priest, He is faithful, 00:34:02.24\00:34:07.48 He is faithful, and He's calling out to you. 00:34:07.51\00:34:12.18 Listen, Jesus says to you, "Today, 00:34:12.21\00:34:16.32 if you hear My voice, 00:34:16.35\00:34:18.62 do not harden your heart, don't disobey, 00:34:18.65\00:34:21.89 walk in obedience and come to Me," 00:34:21.92\00:34:24.53 because salvation has been available 00:34:24.56\00:34:28.46 to every generation by grace through faith, 00:34:28.50\00:34:33.80 but it required obedience. 00:34:33.84\00:34:35.70 We must strive by the power of the Holy Spirit 00:34:35.74\00:34:39.27 given to us to walk in obedience, 00:34:39.31\00:34:42.94 because that's our, 00:34:42.98\00:34:45.51 it should be motivated by love. 00:34:45.55\00:34:47.38 It should be something that 00:34:47.42\00:34:49.68 we want this covenant relationship. 00:34:49.72\00:34:52.59 We're the children, He's the father. 00:34:52.62\00:34:54.69 He provides everything, 00:34:54.72\00:34:56.83 but we're saying, "Lord, we love You." 00:34:56.86\00:34:59.43 And as Jesus said, "In the volume of your book, 00:34:59.46\00:35:02.26 it is written, 'Lo, I have come to do Your will.'" 00:35:02.30\00:35:07.10 So we're to submit, and do God's will. 00:35:07.14\00:35:11.57 You know, when we celebrate the seventh day, 00:35:11.61\00:35:15.54 I like what you said. 00:35:15.58\00:35:17.31 It's a testimony of our faith to God as our Creator, 00:35:17.35\00:35:22.12 it is a testimony of our faith to God as our Redeemer, 00:35:22.15\00:35:27.82 and as the one who will, 00:35:27.86\00:35:31.23 who has the power to sanctify us and qualify us 00:35:31.26\00:35:35.06 to enter into that spiritual rest. 00:35:35.10\00:35:37.43 Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, 00:35:37.47\00:35:42.20 "Come to Me all you who are weary, 00:35:42.24\00:35:43.87 are heavy laden, I will give you rest. 00:35:43.91\00:35:47.48 Lay your burdens, take My yoke, give me your burdens, 00:35:47.51\00:35:52.91 and he says My yoke is easy." 00:35:52.95\00:35:55.75 God's promise is today, it's not too late. 00:35:55.78\00:35:59.99 Won't you hear His call to you? 00:36:00.02\00:36:02.46 Amen. Amen. 00:36:02.49\00:36:03.83 Thank you so much, Shelley. 00:36:03.86\00:36:05.19 And now entering into the... 00:36:05.23\00:36:07.80 Entering into His rest is Wednesday, 00:36:07.83\00:36:11.00 Entering into His Rest. 00:36:11.03\00:36:13.50 I think about rest. 00:36:13.54\00:36:15.27 And, you know, we have a hectic schedule here at 3ABN. 00:36:15.30\00:36:17.84 And rest is something that 00:36:17.87\00:36:19.41 you don't really get till you leave town. 00:36:19.44\00:36:21.64 You don't stay in town to get rest. 00:36:21.68\00:36:24.08 But there's only one thing worse 00:36:24.11\00:36:25.51 than physical exhaustion, 00:36:25.55\00:36:28.42 the spiritual exhaustion. 00:36:28.45\00:36:30.45 The only thing worse than being physically tired, 00:36:30.49\00:36:33.02 is being spiritually tired. 00:36:33.05\00:36:34.52 Now I've been physically tired before, 00:36:34.56\00:36:36.39 but thank the Lord 00:36:36.42\00:36:37.76 I've never been spiritually tired. 00:36:37.79\00:36:39.73 Being physically tired 00:36:39.76\00:36:41.10 could affect your spiritual life. 00:36:41.13\00:36:42.83 Being physically tired 00:36:42.86\00:36:44.20 could affect your spiritual life. 00:36:44.23\00:36:45.57 That's why in our home, my wife and me, 00:36:45.60\00:36:47.77 we don't have any children. 00:36:47.80\00:36:49.34 But when I'm tired, 00:36:49.37\00:36:50.71 when I'm tired of even doing the work of the Lord, 00:36:50.74\00:36:53.54 and we go to our evening devotions, 00:36:53.58\00:36:55.54 or morning devotions, 00:36:55.58\00:36:57.41 if she's tired, I lead out and vice versa. 00:36:57.45\00:37:01.28 But something happens, 00:37:01.32\00:37:02.85 when she lights that spiritual candle, 00:37:02.88\00:37:06.29 I lose my physical exhaustion. 00:37:06.32\00:37:08.66 And in the evening is sometime a detriment. 00:37:08.69\00:37:10.93 She says, "I need to go to bed. 00:37:10.96\00:37:14.16 We just had a nice short devotion, 00:37:14.20\00:37:16.30 now you want this long Bible study." 00:37:16.33\00:37:18.90 Because the Word of God is so alive. 00:37:18.93\00:37:20.80 Yes. It's a never tired... 00:37:20.84\00:37:22.80 It's a never tired book. 00:37:22.84\00:37:24.71 The Word of God is living and powerful. 00:37:24.74\00:37:26.84 So if you want to deal with your physical 00:37:26.88\00:37:28.54 and spiritual exhaustion, 00:37:28.58\00:37:29.91 I would recommend making the Word of God 00:37:29.94\00:37:32.85 a staple in your home. 00:37:32.88\00:37:34.55 Amen. 00:37:34.58\00:37:35.92 Hebrews 3:11, 00:37:35.95\00:37:37.29 we're going to start with this declaration 00:37:37.32\00:37:39.35 the Lord made and as you know, 00:37:39.39\00:37:41.26 the journey of the children of Israel 00:37:41.29\00:37:42.92 is very much like our journey. 00:37:42.96\00:37:44.59 "All those things that happened to them 00:37:44.63\00:37:46.03 happened as examples to us, 00:37:46.06\00:37:47.90 upon whom the end of the worlds have come." 00:37:47.93\00:37:49.46 1 Corinthians Chapter 10. 00:37:49.50\00:37:51.47 So Paul recorded those things to let us look back 00:37:51.50\00:37:54.04 on what they didn't do. 00:37:54.07\00:37:56.10 The writer of Hebrews records it. 00:37:56.14\00:37:58.94 We can actually go to the record as it unfolds 00:37:58.97\00:38:00.78 in the first five books of the Bible, 00:38:00.81\00:38:03.38 and understand how their journeys were. 00:38:03.41\00:38:05.91 We have a record, we could see how it didn't work for them, 00:38:05.95\00:38:09.12 so we don't have to go down that very same path. 00:38:09.15\00:38:12.15 We don't have to lust 00:38:12.19\00:38:13.52 after evil things as they also lusted. 00:38:13.56\00:38:15.66 We don't have to take God's name 00:38:15.69\00:38:17.93 and not take His character. 00:38:17.96\00:38:19.96 And so as the Lord saw the... What could I say? 00:38:20.00\00:38:24.87 The crumbling, the denigration of the Israelites, 00:38:24.90\00:38:28.34 He made the statement in Hebrews 3:11. 00:38:28.37\00:38:31.51 "So I swore in my wrath, they shall not enter My rest." 00:38:31.54\00:38:37.45 So the question I ask you today 00:38:37.48\00:38:38.98 before I go to unfold about how the blessing 00:38:39.01\00:38:41.75 of God comes and the rest we find in Him, 00:38:41.78\00:38:46.86 is your spiritual life beginning to crumble? 00:38:46.89\00:38:50.69 Is your spiritual life something that 00:38:50.73\00:38:52.33 you just reserve for the weekend? 00:38:52.36\00:38:54.76 Is your spiritual life something that 00:38:54.80\00:38:56.50 gets your attention intermittently? 00:38:56.53\00:38:59.60 Because if that's the case, 00:38:59.63\00:39:00.97 I want you to know there's only one thing 00:39:01.00\00:39:02.34 worse than physical exhaustion, 00:39:02.37\00:39:04.11 the spiritual exhaustion. 00:39:04.14\00:39:06.84 Meaning, let's do the comparison, 00:39:06.88\00:39:08.64 if you don't eat, 00:39:08.68\00:39:10.51 you're going to get physically tired. 00:39:10.55\00:39:11.88 Oh, yeah. 00:39:11.91\00:39:13.25 The same is true about studying God's Word. 00:39:13.28\00:39:14.75 If you don't study God's Word, 00:39:14.78\00:39:16.35 you're going to become spiritually exhausted. 00:39:16.38\00:39:18.69 And people that are physically tired, 00:39:18.72\00:39:21.36 the things that they can carry become less and less. 00:39:21.39\00:39:24.83 They don't have the strength to do it. 00:39:24.86\00:39:27.03 Such is the case in spiritual exhaustion. 00:39:27.06\00:39:29.10 When you don't feed yourself spiritually, 00:39:29.13\00:39:31.47 you're going to find that 00:39:31.50\00:39:32.83 you are not able to bear the burdens 00:39:32.87\00:39:34.30 and the challenges of life. 00:39:34.34\00:39:35.80 So let me encourage you before I go any further, 00:39:35.84\00:39:38.04 don't allow yourself 00:39:38.07\00:39:39.41 to become spiritually exhausted, 00:39:39.44\00:39:41.18 because it impacts your physical life 00:39:41.21\00:39:43.21 and your relationship with a Christ 00:39:43.24\00:39:45.81 who is the one wanting 00:39:45.85\00:39:47.42 and desiring to give you that rest. 00:39:47.45\00:39:49.85 Hebrews 4 and you read a lot of it. 00:39:49.88\00:39:52.39 Hebrews 4 focuses a lot on the Sabbath. 00:39:52.42\00:39:54.82 I'm going to let Jill deal with that 00:39:54.86\00:39:56.19 because your lesson is pretty much 00:39:56.22\00:39:57.56 about the Sabbath. 00:39:57.59\00:39:58.93 It's about the Sabbath. 00:39:58.96\00:40:00.30 So I'm not going to take a lot of time there. 00:40:00.33\00:40:01.66 But I'm going to go to Exodus 33:14. 00:40:01.70\00:40:05.10 Ryan talked about the Sabbath some, 00:40:05.13\00:40:06.60 Shelley talked about it some, 00:40:06.63\00:40:08.04 but it's Jill's full concentration. 00:40:08.07\00:40:09.94 Talk about it all you want. 00:40:09.97\00:40:11.31 So there's always things we could bring out. 00:40:11.34\00:40:14.28 But the presence of God, and the rest 00:40:14.31\00:40:17.58 that we find in the Lord is not only... 00:40:17.61\00:40:20.48 Well, let me read the text, 00:40:20.52\00:40:21.85 and I'll give you the explanation. 00:40:21.88\00:40:23.32 Exodus 33:14. 00:40:23.35\00:40:25.55 And He said, "My presence will go with you, 00:40:25.59\00:40:28.99 and I will give you rest." 00:40:29.02\00:40:30.49 The next application I want to make, 00:40:30.53\00:40:32.63 take the Lord with you everywhere you go. 00:40:32.66\00:40:35.43 Now, why do I say that? 00:40:35.46\00:40:36.80 I know, as a pastor, I've had people in my church, 00:40:36.83\00:40:40.34 not necessarily this one, sort of set up, 00:40:40.37\00:40:42.60 one on vacation, and I asked them, 00:40:42.64\00:40:44.47 "Well, where did you go to church?" 00:40:44.51\00:40:46.17 "Oh, I didn't go to church, I just stayed home and slept." 00:40:46.21\00:40:49.01 You know, my wife and I throughout 00:40:49.04\00:40:51.08 our entire life on vacations, 00:40:51.11\00:40:53.52 everywhere we go on vacation, we find a church. 00:40:53.55\00:40:57.75 Because while we're getting physical rest, 00:40:57.79\00:41:00.29 we don't want to ignore our spiritual needs. 00:41:00.32\00:41:04.33 The congregation may be ever so small or ever so large, 00:41:04.36\00:41:07.93 we have to come to that table of grace 00:41:07.96\00:41:09.83 because the Sabbath to me 00:41:09.86\00:41:11.20 is an appointment with divinity. 00:41:11.23\00:41:13.87 It's not a time that I could say, well, 00:41:13.90\00:41:15.80 you know, we would, I remember going down, 00:41:15.84\00:41:18.27 we tried that once. 00:41:18.31\00:41:19.84 We were living in California, in Northern California, 00:41:19.87\00:41:23.75 and close to the ocean, 00:41:23.78\00:41:25.31 our church for pastors' appreciation, 00:41:25.35\00:41:27.45 they gave us a weekend away. 00:41:27.48\00:41:29.05 They said, "You need some rest, Pastor, you worked too hard." 00:41:29.08\00:41:31.09 So they gave us a weekend away. 00:41:31.12\00:41:32.52 So we said, "Well, let's go to church." 00:41:32.55\00:41:33.96 And we went to a church not too far away. 00:41:33.99\00:41:35.92 And it so happened, the Lord led us to a church 00:41:35.96\00:41:37.86 where the pastor was out of town for that day. 00:41:37.89\00:41:40.73 And they were going to show a video. 00:41:40.76\00:41:42.36 Well, what happened when we walked in? 00:41:42.40\00:41:44.27 They said, "The Lord answered our prayer. 00:41:44.30\00:41:47.64 Could you do the sermon today?" 00:41:47.67\00:41:49.70 Even though I was on vacation, 00:41:49.74\00:41:51.21 I said, this was God's appointment. 00:41:51.24\00:41:53.14 And I ended up being the speaker for that day, 00:41:53.17\00:41:55.24 on the weekend that I was getting physical rest. 00:41:55.28\00:41:57.61 You see, God has appointments 00:41:57.65\00:41:59.08 with this spiritual relationship 00:41:59.11\00:42:00.65 He made to us with us, 00:42:00.68\00:42:02.88 that when we are invited to enter His rest, 00:42:02.92\00:42:06.52 let us do all we can to enter into that rest. 00:42:06.55\00:42:10.69 Let's go to the Book of Hebrews Chapter 4, 00:42:10.73\00:42:12.73 look at verse 10 and 11. 00:42:12.76\00:42:15.23 Look at why He admonishes us not to just enter into rest 00:42:15.26\00:42:19.70 but to pursue rest, 00:42:19.73\00:42:21.64 that spiritual rest with Him. 00:42:21.67\00:42:23.51 For He said, Hebrews 4:10, 00:42:23.54\00:42:26.98 "For He who has entered His rest, 00:42:27.01\00:42:30.25 has himself also ceased from his work, 00:42:30.28\00:42:33.48 as God did from His. 00:42:33.52\00:42:35.92 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, 00:42:35.95\00:42:39.49 lest anyone fall according to the same example 00:42:39.52\00:42:43.76 of disobedience." 00:42:43.79\00:42:45.19 Now what example are they talking about? 00:42:45.23\00:42:47.86 When the Israelites were in the wilderness, 00:42:47.90\00:42:49.66 and the Lord said to them, 00:42:49.70\00:42:51.03 "Gather manna every day, 00:42:51.07\00:42:52.40 but don't go out on the Sabbath looking for any, 00:42:52.43\00:42:54.74 there's not going to be any." 00:42:54.77\00:42:56.20 Some of you guys that want to go to restaurants 00:42:56.24\00:42:57.94 on Sabbath... 00:42:57.97\00:43:00.34 Amen. 00:43:00.38\00:43:01.84 Don't go on Sabbath, 00:43:01.88\00:43:03.24 make the preparation on the preparation day. 00:43:03.28\00:43:05.55 Make twice as much. 00:43:05.58\00:43:07.68 If you need to warm it up, 00:43:07.72\00:43:09.05 let us not take the inconvenience, 00:43:09.08\00:43:11.69 let us not take the Sabbath, 00:43:11.72\00:43:13.72 and make it an inconvenience for others. 00:43:13.76\00:43:15.86 Did you not miss what Ryan said? 00:43:15.89\00:43:17.56 It is not only an opportunity for you to rest, 00:43:17.59\00:43:20.26 but for you to give your neighbors, 00:43:20.30\00:43:22.06 those within your gates, 00:43:22.10\00:43:23.43 the stranger, an opportunity to rest. 00:43:23.47\00:43:25.97 By your example, they discover your God. 00:43:26.00\00:43:30.24 So He said, "Let us not fall 00:43:30.27\00:43:33.61 according to the same example of disobedience." 00:43:33.64\00:43:37.15 So you find that the Lord continues 00:43:37.18\00:43:40.88 to remind us of the beauty of entering into His rest. 00:43:40.92\00:43:43.59 Let's go to Hebrews Chapter 4. 00:43:43.62\00:43:45.19 And I'm going to jump through some verses here 00:43:45.22\00:43:47.56 that would show you how, 00:43:47.59\00:43:49.79 and then I'm going to let it segue to Jill, 00:43:49.82\00:43:52.56 so she could bring the Sabbath, 00:43:52.59\00:43:54.93 the special focus of the Sabbath in. 00:43:54.96\00:43:57.77 Let's look at Hebrews Chapter 4, 00:43:57.80\00:43:59.13 I'm going to go from verse 1 to 3, to 5, then 8 to 10. 00:43:59.17\00:44:02.67 Verse 1, "Therefore, since a promise remains 00:44:02.70\00:44:07.11 of entering His rest," 00:44:07.14\00:44:09.48 look at this, "let us fear, 00:44:09.51\00:44:13.05 lest any of you seem to have come short of it." 00:44:13.08\00:44:16.48 Notice what He's saying. 00:44:16.52\00:44:17.95 The Sabbath is a day of spiritual rest. 00:44:17.99\00:44:20.12 He said you ought to be afraid not to enter that rest. 00:44:20.16\00:44:22.92 That's what He's saying. 00:44:22.96\00:44:24.29 He's not saying you ought to just not think about. 00:44:24.33\00:44:26.09 He says, you ought to be fearful 00:44:26.13\00:44:28.86 not to enter that rest. 00:44:28.90\00:44:31.90 Let us fear lest any of you seem 00:44:31.93\00:44:33.84 to have come short of it. 00:44:33.87\00:44:35.70 4:3, "For we who have believed, do enter that rest." 00:44:35.74\00:44:41.48 Watch this. 00:44:41.51\00:44:42.84 When you observe the Sabbath, you believe. 00:44:42.88\00:44:45.61 It's an exercise of belief. 00:44:45.65\00:44:47.52 It's not an exercise of just a day of worship. 00:44:47.55\00:44:49.82 It's an exercise of belief. 00:44:49.85\00:44:51.89 You're following the examples of Christ. 00:44:51.92\00:44:53.76 We've often said, 00:44:53.79\00:44:55.12 what's the purpose of the Sabbath? 00:44:55.16\00:44:56.69 Well, we're following the example of Christ, 00:44:56.73\00:44:58.99 but it's just deeper than the example of Christ. 00:44:59.03\00:45:01.20 We also believe, why we follow the example of Christ. 00:45:01.23\00:45:05.23 He says, "For we who have believed 00:45:05.27\00:45:08.30 do enter that rest, as He said: 00:45:08.34\00:45:11.31 'I swore in My wrath, 00:45:11.34\00:45:12.94 they shall not enter My rest, ' 00:45:12.97\00:45:14.84 although the works were finished 00:45:14.88\00:45:17.08 from the foundation of the world, 00:45:17.11\00:45:18.55 and again, in this place, they shall not enter my rest. 00:45:18.58\00:45:22.32 For if Joshua, Yeshua Christ had given them," 00:45:22.35\00:45:26.22 Joshua and Christ was synonymous 00:45:26.25\00:45:27.69 in the leading of the Israelites, 00:45:27.72\00:45:29.62 "had given them rest, then He would not 00:45:29.66\00:45:32.16 after would have spoken of another day. 00:45:32.19\00:45:35.00 There remains 00:45:35.03\00:45:38.53 therefore a rest for the people of God, 00:45:38.57\00:45:42.14 for He who has entered His rest, 00:45:42.17\00:45:44.87 that's the rest of Christ, 00:45:44.91\00:45:46.74 has himself also ceased from his work 00:45:46.78\00:45:49.54 as God did from His." 00:45:49.58\00:45:51.35 So when we enter the Sabbath rest, 00:45:51.38\00:45:53.88 we enter a spiritual rest. 00:45:53.92\00:45:55.95 When we enter the rest of Christ, 00:45:55.98\00:45:57.85 we have a daily rest, 00:45:57.89\00:45:59.72 and therefore our physical life 00:45:59.75\00:46:01.92 will not be more important than our spiritual life. 00:46:01.96\00:46:04.96 Amen. 00:46:04.99\00:46:06.33 Thank you so much each one of you. 00:46:06.36\00:46:07.80 What an incredible study. 00:46:07.83\00:46:09.16 I love Hebrews Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. 00:46:09.20\00:46:12.23 You know, when we look at Hebrews 3, 00:46:12.27\00:46:13.74 we see that God has built us a better home, 00:46:13.77\00:46:16.30 a better family, 00:46:16.34\00:46:17.67 a better community. 00:46:17.71\00:46:19.14 It's a home family community 00:46:19.17\00:46:20.94 that's free from condemnation and guilt. 00:46:20.98\00:46:24.35 When we look at Hebrews Chapter 4, 00:46:24.38\00:46:26.41 we see that having accepted that better home, 00:46:26.45\00:46:29.75 we enter a better rest, 00:46:29.78\00:46:32.65 which is our spiritual salvation 00:46:32.69\00:46:34.46 in Jesus Christ. 00:46:34.49\00:46:35.82 And the Sabbath is the door 00:46:35.86\00:46:38.66 into that spiritual salvation rest. 00:46:38.69\00:46:41.73 Thursday's lesson I have 00:46:41.76\00:46:43.43 which is Foretaste of New Creation. 00:46:43.47\00:46:46.43 I have too much material. 00:46:46.47\00:46:48.14 So we'll get through what we can here. 00:46:48.17\00:46:50.74 We're looking at what does the Sabbath 00:46:50.77\00:46:52.64 serve as a reminder of? 00:46:52.67\00:46:55.38 Ryan referenced to those. 00:46:55.41\00:46:56.91 The Sabbath serves us a reminder, 00:46:56.95\00:46:59.25 every Sabbath that Jesus is my Creator. 00:46:59.28\00:47:01.88 Jesus is my Redeemer. 00:47:01.92\00:47:04.79 Shelley talked about Jesus is my Sanctifier. 00:47:04.82\00:47:09.22 But the four areas that we're going to look at 00:47:09.26\00:47:11.43 and focus today is Jesus is my Creator, 00:47:11.46\00:47:14.03 Jesus is my Redeemer, Jesus is my rest, 00:47:14.06\00:47:18.93 and Jesus is my soon coming King. 00:47:18.97\00:47:22.04 We're going to look at those four areas, 00:47:22.07\00:47:24.54 in the focus of past, present, and future. 00:47:24.57\00:47:29.54 So let's go, Jesus is my Creator. 00:47:29.58\00:47:31.95 This is area number one. 00:47:31.98\00:47:33.38 If we look at that, in the focus of the past, 00:47:33.42\00:47:35.22 this is what Ryan read. 00:47:35.25\00:47:36.58 This is the Fourth Commandment from Exodus 20:8-11. 00:47:36.62\00:47:41.32 The heart of that Fourth Commandment 00:47:41.36\00:47:43.29 reminds us that in six days, 00:47:43.32\00:47:46.19 God made the heavens and the earth. 00:47:46.23\00:47:48.03 Every Sabbath is reminder, He created me, I am valued, 00:47:48.06\00:47:52.37 I am loved. 00:47:52.40\00:47:54.07 Every Sabbath is also a reminder 00:47:54.10\00:47:55.94 that He created others, 00:47:55.97\00:47:58.54 they are made in His image. 00:47:58.57\00:48:00.31 They are to be my brothers and sisters. 00:48:00.34\00:48:04.31 Every Sabbath is also a reminder, 00:48:04.35\00:48:06.31 He created this world and everything that is in it. 00:48:06.35\00:48:10.25 I am to be a steward of His creation. 00:48:10.29\00:48:12.99 Now that's the past, the reminder of the past. 00:48:13.02\00:48:15.66 What about the present? 00:48:15.69\00:48:17.03 This is one of my favorites. 00:48:17.06\00:48:18.53 Every Sabbath is a reminder that He can recreate in me 00:48:18.56\00:48:23.97 the image of Jesus. 00:48:24.00\00:48:26.30 2 Corinthians 5:17, "If anyone is in Christ, 00:48:26.33\00:48:29.20 he or she is a new creation. 00:48:29.24\00:48:32.24 Old things are passed away, 00:48:32.27\00:48:33.98 behold, all things have become new." 00:48:34.01\00:48:37.65 Every Sabbath is a reminder 00:48:37.68\00:48:40.08 that He's my recreator. 00:48:40.12\00:48:42.08 Where did I come from? 00:48:42.12\00:48:43.45 I don't know about you, but I came from a place, 00:48:43.49\00:48:45.89 Ephesians 1 talks about it, dead in trespasses and sins. 00:48:45.92\00:48:50.63 That's where I came from. 00:48:50.66\00:48:52.29 Every Sabbath, God reminds me that He can recreate in me 00:48:52.33\00:48:57.40 the image of Jesus. 00:48:57.43\00:48:59.30 What does He recreate? 00:54:49.08\00:54:50.42 No, the tree was already an apple tree 00:54:50.45\00:54:52.09 before the fruit was there. 00:54:52.12\00:54:54.92 The fruit just confirms that it is an apple tree. 00:54:54.96\00:54:58.26 The true Christian does not keep the Sabbath 00:54:58.29\00:55:00.50 or the other nine Commandments to become righteous. 00:55:00.53\00:55:03.40 Rather, it is the natural fruitage 00:55:03.43\00:55:06.74 of the righteousness of Christ 00:55:06.77\00:55:08.80 at work in the life of a Christian. 00:55:08.84\00:55:12.31 Let's look at the future that rest. 00:55:12.34\00:55:14.24 Israel failed to experience the rest in Christ. 00:55:14.28\00:55:16.98 The Jews of Jesus' day failed to experience it too. 00:55:17.01\00:55:19.51 You know what? 00:55:19.55\00:55:20.88 Many Christians today fail to experience 00:55:20.92\00:55:22.68 true salvation rest in Christ. 00:55:22.72\00:55:25.95 Pastor John read Hebrews 4:9, 00:55:25.99\00:55:28.02 "There remains therefore a rest for the people of God." 00:55:28.06\00:55:33.23 We're invited today and throughout eternity 00:55:33.26\00:55:35.60 to experience God's rest of salvation 00:55:35.63\00:55:37.47 by grace through faith. 00:55:37.50\00:55:38.93 And finally number four, the Sabbath is a reminder that 00:55:38.97\00:55:42.17 Jesus is my soon coming King. 00:55:42.20\00:55:44.74 Amen. I love that. 00:55:44.77\00:55:46.21 Hebrews 9:28 our last verse, 00:55:46.24\00:55:48.28 "Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. 00:55:48.31\00:55:50.85 To those who eagerly wait for Him, 00:55:50.88\00:55:53.38 He will appear a second time, 00:55:53.42\00:55:55.48 apart from sin for salvation." 00:55:55.52\00:55:57.45 So the beautiful thing about the Sabbath is every Sabbath, 00:55:57.49\00:56:00.79 you can remember Jesus is your Creator, 00:56:00.82\00:56:03.26 your Redeemer, your rest, and your soon coming King. 00:56:03.29\00:56:07.26 Amen. Great lesson. 00:56:07.30\00:56:09.00 Amen. 00:56:09.03\00:56:10.37 This study has been such a blessing to help us 00:56:10.40\00:56:12.17 see the Sabbath in such a deeper, 00:56:12.20\00:56:13.87 clearer light from the perspective of Hebrews. 00:56:13.90\00:56:16.34 So praise the Lord for that. 00:56:16.37\00:56:17.71 Let's get some final thoughts. 00:56:17.74\00:56:19.74 Well, for Monday's portion, 00:56:19.77\00:56:21.14 I would like to say that somehow someway, 00:56:21.18\00:56:23.08 God has placed a Joshua and a Caleb in your life, 00:56:23.11\00:56:26.61 to help you understand to walk in the ways of the Lord 00:56:26.65\00:56:29.75 and not in disobedience. 00:56:29.78\00:56:31.32 So take heed and follow the Lord. 00:56:31.35\00:56:33.79 Amen. 00:56:33.82\00:56:35.16 In Hebrews 4:7, 00:56:35.19\00:56:37.13 I just want to quote that to you that 00:56:37.16\00:56:41.40 God is calling out to you today. 00:56:41.43\00:56:44.13 He says, "Today, if you hear My voice, 00:56:44.17\00:56:47.77 don't harden your heart." 00:56:47.80\00:56:49.77 Turn toward Him, and He will change your life. 00:56:49.80\00:56:53.88 And finally, don't allow your physical rest 00:56:53.91\00:56:57.35 to rob you off the spiritual rest 00:56:57.38\00:56:59.41 found in the fellowship. 00:56:59.45\00:57:00.85 Hebrews 10:25, 00:57:00.88\00:57:02.45 "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, 00:57:02.48\00:57:05.85 as is the matter of some but exhorting one another 00:57:05.89\00:57:09.12 and so much the more 00:57:09.16\00:57:10.86 as you see the day approaching." 00:57:10.89\00:57:13.19 Amen. 00:57:13.23\00:57:14.56 Every Sabbath is a reminder 00:57:14.60\00:57:15.93 of what God has done in your life and in mine, 00:57:15.96\00:57:18.37 and it's a reminder of what He wants to do, 00:57:18.40\00:57:21.14 and how He wants to save us and take us home with Him. 00:57:21.17\00:57:24.07 Amen. 00:57:24.11\00:57:25.44 This has been such a blessing. 00:57:25.47\00:57:27.18 We should be praising God 00:57:27.21\00:57:28.54 for the Sabbath rest that we find in Him. 00:57:28.58\00:57:31.35 But more than that, as we learn this spiritual rest 00:57:31.38\00:57:34.25 that we find only in Christ Jesus, 00:57:34.28\00:57:36.79 our Lord Jesus, the giver of rest, 00:57:36.82\00:57:39.62 that was the title of this week's lesson, 00:57:39.65\00:57:41.02 it was such a blessing. 00:57:41.06\00:57:42.39 My friends, as always, we want to thank you again 00:57:42.42\00:57:43.99 for joining us here 00:57:44.03\00:57:45.36 on the 3ABN Sabbath School Panel. 00:57:45.39\00:57:47.43 And we want you to join us next week 00:57:47.46\00:57:49.26 because next week, 00:57:49.30\00:57:50.63 we're going to be jumping into lesson number six, 00:57:50.67\00:57:53.23 which is entitled Jesus, the Faithful Priest. 00:57:53.27\00:57:57.04 I knew it was going to get to this 00:57:57.07\00:57:58.41 because we got to talk about Jesus 00:57:58.44\00:57:59.77 as High Priest at some point. 00:57:59.81\00:58:01.18 We're going to do that next week. 00:58:01.21\00:58:02.58 We'll see you right back here.
