Okay. 00:02:39.62\00:02:39.65 Well, then why don't you have a prayer for us 00:02:41.69\00:02:41.72 before we dive into the lesson? 00:02:43.06\00:02:43.09 Sure. 00:02:44.13\00:02:44.16 Our loving Heavenly Father, we thank You, Lord, 00:02:45.83\00:02:45.86 for the blessing of the Book of Hebrews. 00:02:48.90\00:02:48.93 That is a feast of good things. 00:02:50.53\00:02:50.57 We pray that as we study Your Holy Spirit 00:02:53.03\00:02:53.07 will help us understand even more, 00:02:55.07\00:02:55.10 lead us and guide us and we pray that 00:02:58.07\00:02:58.11 Your Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. 00:02:59.74\00:02:59.77 We pray for Your blessing upon all those 00:03:01.74\00:03:01.78 that endeavor to seek to understand 00:03:03.48\00:03:03.51 Your Holy Scriptures. 00:03:06.01\00:03:06.05 And we pray, Lord, that Your name may be honored 00:03:07.62\00:03:07.65 and glorified in all things 00:03:09.55\00:03:09.58 in Jesus' holy and blessed name, amen. 00:03:11.29\00:03:11.32 Amen. Amen. 00:03:14.09\00:03:14.12 Thank you, thank you. 00:03:15.16\00:03:15.19 We're going to start with Hebrews 2:1, 00:03:16.93\00:03:16.96 and Saturday and Sunday lessons on Sabbath and Sunday lesson. 00:03:20.40\00:03:20.43 And then we're going to see 00:03:24.53\00:03:24.57 what the Lord has in store for us. 00:03:25.60\00:03:25.63 But let's go to Hebrews 2:1. 00:03:26.84\00:03:26.87 We're talking about in some real sense, 00:03:29.00\00:03:29.04 the pre-existence of Jesus. 00:03:31.41\00:03:31.44 Now they are what I call 00:03:33.94\00:03:33.98 three Genesis in the Bible. 00:03:35.54\00:03:35.58 Genesis, obviously, then John Chapter 1, 00:03:38.38\00:03:38.41 then Hebrews Chapter 1. 00:03:41.28\00:03:41.32 Now Genesis takes us to the beginning, 00:03:43.22\00:03:43.25 in the beginning, God created heavens and the earth, 00:03:44.85\00:03:44.89 pretty much our solar system, our world, 00:03:46.72\00:03:46.76 the place that we call home. 00:03:49.32\00:03:49.36 But then John goes further in the beginning was the Word 00:03:51.29\00:03:51.33 and the Word was with God, 00:03:54.13\00:03:54.20 he goes even further back than that. 00:03:55.23\00:03:55.26 And then Hebrews talks about the Lord through His Son, 00:03:57.70\00:03:57.73 creating the worlds and astronomers tell it 00:04:01.44\00:04:01.47 that there are billions of galaxies, 00:04:05.34\00:04:05.37 which if we are faithful, one day, 00:04:08.14\00:04:08.18 we'll get a chance to visit, maybe all of them 00:04:09.48\00:04:09.51 because that's what immortal life 00:04:12.21\00:04:12.25 gives us the opportunity to do. 00:04:13.75\00:04:13.78 So let's look at Hebrews 1:2-3 00:04:15.48\00:04:15.52 as we consider the memory text 00:04:18.55\00:04:18.59 in the Book of Hebrews 1:2-3, 00:04:21.39\00:04:21.42 I'll read that for you. 00:04:25.79\00:04:25.83 And it says, "Has in these last days," 00:04:27.30\00:04:27.30 speaking about the father, appointing his son, 00:04:29.06\00:04:29.10 "Has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, 00:04:32.27\00:04:32.30 whom He has appointed heir of all things, 00:04:36.74\00:04:36.77 through whom also He made the world's, 00:04:39.74\00:04:39.77 who being the brightness of His glory 00:04:43.65\00:04:43.68 and the express image of His person, 00:04:46.18\00:04:46.21 and upholding all things by the word of His power, 00:04:48.98\00:04:49.02 when He had Himself purged our sins, 00:04:51.95\00:04:51.99 sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." 00:04:55.39\00:04:55.42 When you read that texts you don't realize 00:04:59.53\00:04:59.56 how much ground is covered 00:05:01.03\00:05:01.06 starts by when He created the worlds, 00:05:03.13\00:05:03.16 long before our existence, 00:05:06.27\00:05:06.30 and then sending him 00:05:08.50\00:05:08.54 and appointing him heir of all things, 00:05:09.97\00:05:10.01 and then sending him to show the world 00:05:12.64\00:05:12.67 the expressed image of the Father. 00:05:14.48\00:05:14.51 And then his ministry, his death, burial resurrection, 00:05:16.91\00:05:16.95 then sitting down at the right hand of majesty, 00:05:19.75\00:05:19.78 two verses that takes us through 00:05:22.25\00:05:22.28 quite a bit of space and time. 00:05:24.05\00:05:24.09 When you think about 00:05:25.95\00:05:25.99 the beginning story of the Bible, 00:05:27.02\00:05:27.06 we call The Great Controversy the unfolding 00:05:28.59\00:05:28.62 of the lineage of humanity 00:05:31.66\00:05:31.69 as well as the conflict between good and evil. 00:05:33.23\00:05:33.26 We find right after Adam and Eve sinned, 00:05:36.23\00:05:36.26 God made a promise. 00:05:38.97\00:05:39.00 And the promise was he was going to send a seed, 00:05:41.40\00:05:41.44 who would deliver all of humanity 00:05:44.07\00:05:44.11 from the woes of sin as Romans 3:23 says, 00:05:47.04\00:05:47.08 "For all have sinned 00:05:50.15\00:05:50.18 and fallen short of the glory of God." 00:05:52.28\00:05:52.31 Also, 1 Corinthians 15:22, 00:05:54.15\00:05:54.18 speaking about the best Adam could give us, 00:05:56.28\00:05:56.32 "As in Adam all die, but the converse, 00:05:59.02\00:05:59.05 even so in Christ all shall be made alive." 00:06:02.49\00:06:02.52 There are many contrast scriptures in the Bible. 00:06:05.13\00:06:05.16 1 Corinthians 15:22 is one of them. 00:06:08.10\00:06:08.13 Another one is Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death, 00:06:11.03\00:06:11.07 but the gift of God is eternal life 00:06:15.74\00:06:15.77 through Jesus Christ our Lord." 00:06:18.21\00:06:18.24 Now these contrasting scriptures show us 00:06:19.94\00:06:19.97 what we deserve and what we don't deserve. 00:06:22.51\00:06:22.54 It shows us the plight of humanity, 00:06:25.48\00:06:25.51 and the promise of divinity. 00:06:27.72\00:06:27.75 And so today we're going to walk through 00:06:29.38\00:06:29.42 some aspects of how God works, 00:06:31.85\00:06:31.89 but then we're going to look about 00:06:35.32\00:06:35.36 In These Last Days, 00:06:36.49\00:06:36.52 which is the focus of Sunday's lesson, 00:06:38.23\00:06:38.26 In These Last Days. 00:06:41.03\00:06:41.06 We know if we've been studying the Word of God, 00:06:42.23\00:06:42.26 that the Lord has been speaking through 00:06:44.90\00:06:44.93 apostles and prophets 00:06:46.70\00:06:46.74 and evangelists and pastors and teachers 00:06:48.14\00:06:48.17 throughout the ages, 00:06:50.81\00:06:50.84 but in these last days, 00:06:52.21\00:06:52.24 the message is so vitally important, 00:06:53.81\00:06:53.84 that we can dive down to the Book of Revelation 00:06:56.14\00:06:56.18 and see the revelation of Jesus Christ, 00:06:58.01\00:06:58.05 He is speaking directly to us through the Son 00:07:00.62\00:07:00.65 about the final act in the drama of the ages. 00:07:04.22\00:07:04.25 Let's look at Acts 2:17 00:07:07.92\00:07:07.96 and see how this promise includes all 00:07:10.56\00:07:10.59 who are open to being used of God. 00:07:12.89\00:07:12.93 Acts 2:17, 00:07:15.40\00:07:15.43 "And it shall come to pass in the last day says, God, 00:07:17.97\00:07:18.00 that I will pour out My spirit on all flesh, 00:07:20.60\00:07:20.64 your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, 00:07:23.97\00:07:24.01 your young men shall see visions, 00:07:27.01\00:07:27.04 your old men shall dream dreams." 00:07:30.55\00:07:30.58 And then we find, 00:07:33.72\00:07:33.75 "On My menservant and maidservant, 00:07:34.78\00:07:34.82 I will pour out My Spirit in those days 00:07:37.35\00:07:37.39 and they will prophesy." 00:07:39.65\00:07:39.69 So we're living in a day and age 00:07:41.06\00:07:41.09 where prophecy is a significant part 00:07:42.32\00:07:42.36 of how this controversy is going to end. 00:07:44.93\00:07:44.96 One of the first prophecies in scripture, 00:07:47.20\00:07:47.23 however, is in the Book of Genesis. 00:07:48.76\00:07:48.80 Look at Genesis 3:15, 00:07:50.90\00:07:50.93 the prophecy that show generations 00:07:52.77\00:07:52.80 long after Adam, 00:07:55.54\00:07:55.57 that the promise the Lord made in the garden 00:07:57.41\00:07:57.44 is going to be fulfilled, 00:07:59.77\00:07:59.81 not only through his life, 00:08:01.24\00:08:01.28 but in the final eradication of sin. 00:08:02.91\00:08:02.94 Genesis 3:15, 00:08:05.48\00:08:05.51 "I will put enmity between you and the woman," 00:08:07.12\00:08:07.15 speaking to the serpent, 00:08:10.42\00:08:10.45 "and between your seed and her Seed, 00:08:11.95\00:08:11.99 he shall bruise your head, 00:08:14.79\00:08:14.82 and you shall bruise His heel." 00:08:17.39\00:08:17.43 Now if you want to kill somebody, 00:08:19.63\00:08:19.66 you don't hang him by the heel, hang him by the head. 00:08:20.96\00:08:21.00 In this case, the Lord is talking about 00:08:24.13\00:08:24.17 the ultimate victory of a Satan, 00:08:25.87\00:08:25.90 but in the process, 00:08:27.67\00:08:27.70 he's going to receive a sustaining wound 00:08:28.74\00:08:28.77 that is for his heel, 00:08:31.37\00:08:31.41 meaning it will hinder to some degree, 00:08:33.04\00:08:33.07 the beautiful, unmarred glorious Christ 00:08:35.38\00:08:35.41 and throughout ceaseless ages, 00:08:38.45\00:08:38.48 we will see what our redemption has caused. 00:08:40.65\00:08:40.68 That's why people say, well, salvation is free. 00:08:43.89\00:08:43.92 I say no, it's not. 00:08:46.49\00:08:46.52 It's expensive. 00:08:47.76\00:08:47.79 It has cost God everything. 00:08:49.52\00:08:49.56 And Jesus gave us His best, 00:08:51.23\00:08:51.26 but it's a gift to us, free to us, 00:08:53.13\00:08:53.16 but by no means, if you get a gift. 00:08:55.76\00:08:55.80 Don't ever think it's free. 00:08:58.03\00:08:58.07 It does cause something to make, 00:08:59.10\00:08:59.13 and something to purchase. 00:09:00.87\00:09:00.90 Let's look at the spiritual fulfillment 00:09:03.47\00:09:03.51 of that prophecy made in Genesis Chapter 3. 00:09:05.74\00:09:05.77 Hebrews 2:14. 00:09:08.28\00:09:08.31 Let's look at that. 00:09:10.71\00:09:10.75 Hebrews 2:14, all right, I'll turn there with you. 00:09:11.95\00:09:11.98 Hebrews 2:14, the Bible says... 00:09:17.72\00:09:17.75 Jill, do you have that? I do. 00:09:20.09\00:09:20.12 Read that for me. 00:09:21.16\00:09:21.19 "Inasmuch then as the children 00:09:22.22\00:09:22.26 have partaken a flesh and blood, 00:09:23.76\00:09:23.79 He Himself likewise shared in the same, 00:09:25.33\00:09:25.36 that through death He might destroy him 00:09:27.93\00:09:27.96 who had the power of death, 00:09:30.00\00:09:30.03 that is, the devil." 00:09:31.13\00:09:31.17 Keep going. 00:09:32.93\00:09:32.97 "And release those who through fear of death 00:09:33.94\00:09:33.97 were all their lifetimes subject to bondage." 00:09:35.87\00:09:35.90 That's right. 00:09:38.97\00:09:39.01 So the Lord, that is the chapter 00:09:40.61\00:09:40.64 that the writer of Hebrews recognizes, wait a minute, 00:09:42.68\00:09:42.71 the Lord promised and He fulfilled. 00:09:44.95\00:09:44.98 Now the devil knows that the Lord was victorious 00:09:47.38\00:09:47.42 because the Bible says he knows 00:09:49.92\00:09:49.95 that he has but a short time. 00:09:51.75\00:09:51.79 So he knows that his time is limited 00:09:53.92\00:09:53.96 because the Lord defeated him at the cross, 00:09:56.86\00:09:56.89 but more specifically because of the empty tomb 00:10:00.40\00:10:00.43 that victory was complete. 00:10:03.20\00:10:03.23 But then not only defeating the devil, 00:10:04.87\00:10:04.90 but also bringing freedom to all of those 00:10:07.20\00:10:07.24 who are all their lifetime, 00:10:09.14\00:10:09.17 in fear of bondage, 00:10:10.91\00:10:10.94 held and held captive by habits 00:10:12.51\00:10:12.54 or even just by the thought of what was in their past. 00:10:15.04\00:10:15.08 But let's look at a couple of more prophecies 00:10:18.68\00:10:18.71 that the Bible talks about a prophecy and a fulfillment. 00:10:20.82\00:10:20.85 Another one we get is in 1 Thessalonians 4:15-16. 00:10:25.12\00:10:25.15 Just look at that very quickly, prophecy and fulfillment. 00:10:29.42\00:10:29.46 Okay, "For this we say to you," 00:10:32.56\00:10:32.59 and we don't often think of this as a prophecy, 00:10:34.10\00:10:34.13 but in fact it is 00:10:36.30\00:10:36.33 because it has not yet been fulfilled. 00:10:37.37\00:10:37.40 "For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, 00:10:39.77\00:10:39.80 that we who are alive and remain 00:10:41.97\00:10:42.00 until the coming of the Lord 00:10:43.67\00:10:43.71 will by no means proceed those who are asleep." 00:10:45.47\00:10:45.51 Verse 16, "For the Lord Himself 00:10:48.71\00:10:48.74 will descend from heaven with a shout, 00:10:50.75\00:10:50.78 with the voice of an archangel, with the trumpet of God. 00:10:52.81\00:10:52.85 And the dead in Christ will rise first." 00:10:55.48\00:10:55.52 Now let's look at the confirmation 00:10:57.82\00:10:57.85 of the fulfillment. 00:11:00.16\00:11:00.19 1 Corinthians 15:22-24, "For as in Adam all die, 00:11:01.56\00:11:01.59 even so in Christ all shall be made alive. 00:11:07.00\00:11:07.03 But each one in his own order, Christ the firstfruits, 00:11:09.86\00:11:09.90 afterward those who are Christ's 00:11:13.23\00:11:13.27 at His coming." 00:11:15.94\00:11:15.97 And then let's look at another prophecy, 00:11:17.74\00:11:17.77 "When He puts an end to all rule 00:11:19.24\00:11:19.27 and all authority and all power." 00:11:21.08\00:11:21.11 So we're looking forward to the day 00:11:22.84\00:11:22.88 when the Lord puts an end to all rule, 00:11:24.35\00:11:24.38 all authority, and all power, 00:11:26.68\00:11:26.72 when He really delivers all of us 00:11:28.45\00:11:28.48 and delivers us to the Father, 00:11:31.52\00:11:31.55 as He delivers the kingdom to the Father. 00:11:33.72\00:11:33.76 The kingdom is not physical dimensions 00:11:36.29\00:11:36.32 of the building. 00:11:38.16\00:11:38.19 The kingdom, in fact, is made up of 00:11:39.59\00:11:39.63 sons and daughters of God, 00:11:41.53\00:11:41.56 who are finally freed from the eternal bondage 00:11:43.06\00:11:43.10 that The Great Controversy has brought. 00:11:45.83\00:11:45.87 Let's look at another prophecy. 00:11:48.07\00:11:48.10 Isaiah 65:17, 00:11:49.74\00:11:49.77 looking at prophecy and fulfillment. 00:11:52.47\00:11:52.51 Isaiah 65:17, "For behold, 00:11:54.58\00:11:54.61 I create new heavens and a new earth, 00:11:58.71\00:11:58.75 and the former shall not be remembered 00:12:01.92\00:12:01.95 nor come to mind." 00:12:04.69\00:12:04.72 Now that's the confirmation that one day 00:12:06.02\00:12:06.05 there will be a new heaven and new earth, 00:12:08.46\00:12:08.49 but let's look at 00:12:10.56\00:12:10.59 the spiritual fulfillment of that 00:12:11.63\00:12:11.66 because not only is Lord going to make new heavens 00:12:13.03\00:12:13.06 and new earth, 00:12:15.40\00:12:15.43 but look what Paul the Apostle says 00:12:16.83\00:12:16.87 in 2 Corinthians 5:17. 00:12:18.20\00:12:18.23 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, 00:12:20.90\00:12:20.94 he is a new creation, 00:12:22.94\00:12:22.97 old things have passed away, 00:12:24.57\00:12:24.61 behold, all things have become new." 00:12:26.57\00:12:26.61 That's here and that is now. 00:12:28.51\00:12:28.54 The Apostle Paul confirms that once again in Galatians 6:15, 00:12:31.21\00:12:31.25 "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision 00:12:35.12\00:12:35.15 nor uncircumcision avails anything, 00:12:39.82\00:12:39.85 but a new creation." 00:12:42.12\00:12:42.16 So we are new creations in Christ, 00:12:44.46\00:12:44.49 not in the new earth alone, 00:12:46.23\00:12:46.26 but we are new creations in Christ, even right now. 00:12:48.06\00:12:48.10 We can experience that new life, 00:12:51.07\00:12:51.10 we can look forward to the day 00:12:52.83\00:12:52.87 when all things are made new. 00:12:53.94\00:12:53.97 I talked about we are delivered from the penalty of sin, 00:12:55.87\00:12:55.90 from the power of sin, and finally, 00:12:59.34\00:12:59.37 from the presence of sin. 00:13:01.41\00:13:01.44 That's a prophecy 00:13:03.01\00:13:03.04 that I'm looking forward to being fulfilled. 00:13:04.08\00:13:04.11 One more prophecy very quickly in Daniel 2:44. 00:13:06.68\00:13:06.72 "In the days of these kings the God of heaven 00:13:11.45\00:13:11.49 will set up a kingdom 00:13:13.29\00:13:13.32 which shall never be destroyed, 00:13:14.46\00:13:14.49 and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, 00:13:16.06\00:13:16.09 it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, 00:13:18.29\00:13:18.33 and it shall stand forever." 00:13:21.30\00:13:21.33 Now let's look at the spiritual fulfillment 00:13:23.16\00:13:23.20 because we know that's the future. 00:13:25.43\00:13:25.47 That's what's going to happen. 00:13:26.94\00:13:26.97 God is going to establish a permanent kingdom, 00:13:27.97\00:13:28.00 but look at the words of Jesus, in Luke 17:20-21. 00:13:30.61\00:13:30.64 "Now when He was asked by the Pharisees 00:13:35.81\00:13:35.84 when the kingdom of God would come," 00:13:38.65\00:13:38.68 listen to what he said, 00:13:40.68\00:13:40.72 "He answered them and said, 00:13:42.35\00:13:42.38 'The kingdom of God does not come with observation, 00:13:44.22\00:13:44.25 nor will they say, 'See here!' 00:13:48.02\00:13:48.06 or 'See there!' 00:13:50.43\00:13:50.46 For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.'" 00:13:51.46\00:13:51.49 So watch this. 00:13:55.76\00:13:55.80 Before we get into the kingdom, 00:13:57.10\00:13:57.13 God wants to get the kingdom in us. 00:13:59.43\00:13:59.47 And so that's going to be the beauty, 00:14:02.17\00:14:02.20 the kingdom is already in us 00:14:03.47\00:14:03.51 by the promise of Christ, 00:14:04.57\00:14:04.61 by His shed blood, but one day, 00:14:06.21\00:14:06.24 the kingdom that is in us will get us to the kingdom 00:14:08.44\00:14:08.48 that we will be in. 00:14:11.21\00:14:11.25 Amen. Amen. 00:14:12.28\00:14:12.31 Good stuff. 00:14:13.82\00:14:13.85 My name is James Rafferty, and I have Monday's lesson 00:14:14.95\00:14:14.98 which is entitled 00:14:18.35\00:14:18.39 God Has Spoken to Us by His Son. 00:14:19.42\00:14:19.45 We're going to be looking at Hebrews 1:1-4. 00:14:22.76\00:14:22.79 We do have a little bit of duplication here, 00:14:26.59\00:14:26.63 addition here. 00:14:29.06\00:14:29.10 So we're really going to know these verses 00:14:30.13\00:14:30.17 by the time we're done 00:14:31.63\00:14:31.67 with our lesson for this week. 00:14:32.73\00:14:32.77 Hebrews 1:1-4. 00:14:34.04\00:14:34.07 Let's just read them together. 00:14:35.94\00:14:35.97 Powerful, powerful, actually beautiful verses. 00:14:37.31\00:14:37.34 I especially love this first one. 00:14:40.14\00:14:40.18 Hebrews 1:1, 00:14:41.98\00:14:42.01 "God, who at sundry times 00:14:43.21\00:14:43.24 and in divers manners 00:14:45.48\00:14:45.51 spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 00:14:46.92\00:14:46.95 hath in these last days spoken to us by his Son, 00:14:49.95\00:14:49.98 whom he hath appointed heir of all things, 00:14:53.79\00:14:53.82 and by whom also he made the worlds, 00:14:56.09\00:14:56.12 who being the brightness of His glory 00:14:58.29\00:14:58.33 and the express image of His person, 00:15:00.63\00:15:00.66 and upholding all things by the word of His power, 00:15:02.36\00:15:02.40 when he had by Himself purged our sins, 00:15:05.03\00:15:05.07 sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high, 00:15:07.80\00:15:07.84 being made so much better than the angels, 00:15:11.87\00:15:11.91 as he hath by inheritance 00:15:14.71\00:15:14.74 obtained a more excellent name than they." 00:15:16.71\00:15:16.75 Sundry times in divers manners, what does that mean? 00:15:21.35\00:15:21.38 I don't know what it means. 00:15:24.72\00:15:24.75 Actually, I do know what it means, 00:15:26.89\00:15:26.92 but it's beautiful. 00:15:28.06\00:15:28.09 It's beautiful, poetic King James language. 00:15:29.06\00:15:29.09 And what God is saying here basically is, 00:15:32.16\00:15:32.19 is that God is a communicator, 00:15:34.66\00:15:34.73 God has been communicating with us by the prophets, 00:15:36.46\00:15:36.50 and that communication has only intensified 00:15:39.33\00:15:39.37 down through the ages. 00:15:42.84\00:15:42.87 In other words, God has not lessened 00:15:44.21\00:15:44.24 His communication, 00:15:45.74\00:15:45.77 God has increased His communication 00:15:46.81\00:15:46.84 because the lack of communication 00:15:48.41\00:15:48.44 is an evidence of, 00:15:50.81\00:15:50.85 well, let's say, a spirit 00:15:52.38\00:15:52.41 or an attitude of abandonment. 00:15:55.58\00:15:55.62 When you don't communicate, you have abandoned, 00:15:58.82\00:15:58.85 you have walked away from, 00:16:01.62\00:16:01.66 you have discontinued relationship. 00:16:03.76\00:16:03.79 And that's kind of what happened 00:16:06.03\00:16:06.06 in the Garden of Eden. 00:16:07.60\00:16:07.60 When we go back to the Garden of Eden 00:16:08.63\00:16:08.66 we see implied there clearly that Adam and Eve 00:16:09.93\00:16:09.96 walked with God in the cool of the evening every day. 00:16:14.47\00:16:14.50 And one day God comes 00:16:17.57\00:16:17.61 and He's looking for Adam and Eve 00:16:19.27\00:16:19.31 in the normal location 00:16:20.88\00:16:20.91 where they meet together and talk together 00:16:22.18\00:16:22.21 about the day's activities. 00:16:23.98\00:16:24.01 And they weren't there. 00:16:25.78\00:16:25.81 And so God starts calling for them. 00:16:27.98\00:16:28.02 God is a communicator, "Adam, Eve, where are you? 00:16:29.92\00:16:29.95 Where are you?" 00:16:31.89\00:16:31.92 Are they so busy that 00:16:32.95\00:16:32.99 and, of course, God knows where they are. 00:16:34.36\00:16:34.39 And God knows what has happened, 00:16:36.62\00:16:36.66 but God is working through this whole process 00:16:37.83\00:16:37.86 for our sake 00:16:40.43\00:16:40.46 because God is trying to tell us 00:16:42.06\00:16:42.10 as fallen human beings that even though 00:16:44.50\00:16:44.53 we stopped communicating with Him, 00:16:46.50\00:16:46.53 even though we abandon Him, 00:16:48.30\00:16:48.34 and in that case, 00:16:50.14\00:16:50.17 it was because they were afraid of Him. 00:16:51.21\00:16:51.24 God has not stopped communicating with us. 00:16:53.11\00:16:53.14 God has not abandoned us. 00:16:55.61\00:16:55.64 And so the Book of Hebrews opens up 00:16:57.58\00:16:57.61 with this powerful declaration, 00:16:59.15\00:16:59.18 you know, we believe the Book of Hebrews 00:17:00.92\00:17:00.95 was written by Paul, 00:17:02.45\00:17:02.48 but it's so different from all of his other epistles, 00:17:03.55\00:17:03.59 where he introduces himself as an apostle of God, 00:17:05.92\00:17:05.95 apostle of Christ and grace and peace be 00:17:08.59\00:17:08.62 until he gets right to the point. 00:17:11.26\00:17:11.29 Because we could understand 00:17:13.29\00:17:13.33 that Paul is perhaps trying to reach Hebrews 00:17:15.13\00:17:15.16 in this epistle to the Hebrews 00:17:18.47\00:17:18.50 more than any other group of people. 00:17:19.87\00:17:19.90 And he's trying to remind them, 00:17:22.44\00:17:22.47 that God has never stopped communicating with them 00:17:24.07\00:17:24.11 because that is the key. 00:17:26.21\00:17:26.24 That is the power that wins our hearts. 00:17:27.84\00:17:27.88 God is a communicator, 00:17:31.58\00:17:31.61 and God has continued to communicate to us. 00:17:33.31\00:17:33.35 And it's that goodness of God 00:17:35.85\00:17:35.88 that actually leads us to repentance 00:17:37.32\00:17:37.35 that leads us to turn our lives around. 00:17:39.55\00:17:39.59 So God has never stopped communicating. 00:17:42.72\00:17:42.76 And his communication 00:17:45.26\00:17:45.29 has only increased in intensity, 00:17:46.33\00:17:46.36 from the time of our sin until the very end, 00:17:48.26\00:17:48.30 Jesus Christ Himself manifesting, 00:17:53.00\00:17:53.03 taking our humanity upon Himself 00:17:55.27\00:17:55.30 and communicating to us 00:17:58.71\00:17:58.74 of the goodness and the love of God. 00:18:00.14\00:18:00.18 So in the original Greek, the lesson goes on to say here, 00:18:02.24\00:18:02.28 Hebrews 1:1-4 is only one sentence, 00:18:05.71\00:18:05.75 and I'm thinking in my mind, maybe Paul thought, 00:18:09.95\00:18:09.98 if I've only got one sentence, 00:18:12.89\00:18:12.92 just one chance to speak to my Hebrews, 00:18:14.99\00:18:15.02 I'm just going to get the sentence out there. 00:18:17.83\00:18:17.86 This is going to be the sentence. 00:18:19.49\00:18:19.53 You ever feel that way when you got one sentence, 00:18:20.83\00:18:20.86 so it's just one sentence. 00:18:23.13\00:18:23.16 And it's the author says, 00:18:24.23\00:18:24.27 "It has been argued that 00:18:26.30\00:18:26.33 this is the most beautiful in all the New Testament, 00:18:27.87\00:18:27.90 from the point of view of its rhetorical artistry. 00:18:31.14\00:18:31.17 It is the main assertion that God has spoken to us 00:18:34.44\00:18:34.48 through His Son, Jesus." 00:18:37.68\00:18:37.71 Now the Jews in the first century, 00:18:39.68\00:18:39.71 and, you know, you can see this 00:18:41.68\00:18:41.72 when you end the Old Testament 00:18:43.32\00:18:43.35 with the Book of Malachi. 00:18:44.79\00:18:44.82 And you move to the New Testament, 00:18:46.29\00:18:46.32 you've got a huge gap there, 00:18:47.72\00:18:47.76 you've got a huge space there where it seems like 00:18:49.69\00:18:49.72 God is not communicating. 00:18:51.56\00:18:51.59 But, you know, sometimes 00:18:53.09\00:18:53.13 silence increases the anticipation. 00:18:54.73\00:18:54.73 God is about to communicate, get this, 00:18:59.23\00:18:59.27 we've got all of the pre-show taking place, 00:19:01.74\00:19:01.77 but now the grand finale is taking place. 00:19:04.17\00:19:04.21 And this is time of silence, this is time of anticipation, 00:19:06.57\00:19:06.61 God's been communicating through the prophets, 00:19:10.11\00:19:10.15 but now He's going to communicate in-person. 00:19:11.95\00:19:11.98 And if we're thirsty, if we're hungry, 00:19:15.52\00:19:15.55 if we haven't heard from God, 00:19:17.89\00:19:17.92 you know, separation, they say, makes the heart grow fonder. 00:19:19.39\00:19:19.42 You separate from people for a while, 00:19:22.89\00:19:22.92 and you just need that you want that 00:19:24.59\00:19:24.63 and so God comes in the person of Jesus Christ, 00:19:26.23\00:19:26.26 He comes to remind us 00:19:29.46\00:19:29.50 has never and will never stop communicating with us. 00:19:31.57\00:19:31.60 It's kind of like the anticipation 00:19:34.27\00:19:34.30 of Jesus Christ creating hunger 00:19:36.71\00:19:36.74 in our hearts for God's communication. 00:19:39.27\00:19:39.31 But now, through Jesus, God is speaking to them. 00:19:41.88\00:19:41.91 And the quarterly says, again, I say, 00:19:47.35\00:19:47.38 God is speaking to them through Jesus 00:19:50.65\00:19:50.69 because He's always been speaking to them 00:19:52.15\00:19:52.19 through Jesus in a sense, 00:19:53.46\00:19:53.49 He never stopped speaking to them through Jesus. 00:19:55.06\00:19:55.09 In the Old Testament, it was Christ. 00:19:57.53\00:19:57.56 He was the rock that followed them. 00:19:59.19\00:19:59.23 He was the one that communicated. 00:20:00.30\00:20:00.33 He was the one that inspired, 00:20:01.43\00:20:01.46 of course, through the Holy Spirit. 00:20:02.66\00:20:02.70 But basically, when Jesus comes, 00:20:04.13\00:20:04.17 He negates all the false ideas of God's abandonment. 00:20:06.23\00:20:06.27 God has never abandoned us. 00:20:10.71\00:20:10.74 He's never stopped communicating to us. 00:20:12.61\00:20:12.64 So "God's revelation," the quarterly goes on to say, 00:20:17.38\00:20:17.41 "through Jesus, however, was superior to the revelation 00:20:19.28\00:20:19.31 that God made through the prophets 00:20:22.02\00:20:22.05 because Jesus 00:20:23.18\00:20:23.22 is a greater means of revelation. 00:20:24.25\00:20:24.29 He is God Himself, 00:20:26.22\00:20:26.25 who created the heavens and the earth 00:20:27.36\00:20:27.39 and rules the universe. 00:20:28.59\00:20:28.62 So for Paul, the deity of Christ 00:20:29.86\00:20:29.89 is never in questions all but assume." 00:20:31.79\00:20:31.83 Yes, previous revelations 00:20:34.23\00:20:34.30 were lesser than the actual revelation of God, 00:20:37.53\00:20:37.57 but they were these previous revelations 00:20:40.47\00:20:40.50 were still the revelations of God, 00:20:42.37\00:20:42.40 specifically, for example, the Ten Commandments 00:20:44.21\00:20:44.24 spoken by the voice of God Himself. 00:20:46.47\00:20:46.51 The quarterly goes on to say, 00:20:49.18\00:20:49.21 "Also, for Paul, the Old Testament 00:20:50.25\00:20:50.28 was the Word of God. 00:20:51.81\00:20:51.85 The same God who spoke in the past continues 00:20:53.05\00:20:53.08 to speak in the present. 00:20:55.32\00:20:55.35 The Old Testament communicated 00:20:56.38\00:20:56.42 a true knowledge of God's will. 00:20:58.69\00:20:58.72 However," it goes on to say, 00:21:01.49\00:21:01.52 "it was possible to understand its fuller meaning 00:21:03.46\00:21:03.49 only when the Son arrived on the earth." 00:21:06.36\00:21:06.39 That's why Jesus said so many times you have heard, 00:21:09.46\00:21:09.50 but I say it has been written, 00:21:11.90\00:21:11.93 but I say He was bringing fuller meaning 00:21:13.54\00:21:13.57 to everything that had been written 00:21:16.10\00:21:16.14 in the Old Testament. 00:21:17.87\00:21:17.91 The author goes on to say, "In the author's mind, 00:21:20.08\00:21:20.11 the Father's revelation in the Son 00:21:21.78\00:21:21.81 provided the key 00:21:23.41\00:21:23.45 to understanding the true breadth 00:21:24.58\00:21:24.61 of the Old Testament." 00:21:26.45\00:21:26.48 I just want to say amen to that. 00:21:28.28\00:21:28.32 "Just like the picture on the box of a jigsaw puzzle 00:21:29.95\00:21:29.98 provides the key to finding the correct place 00:21:33.19\00:21:33.22 for every one of its pieces." 00:21:36.73\00:21:36.76 Now how many of us can relate to that, 00:21:38.26\00:21:38.29 you look in jigsaw puzzle? 00:21:39.59\00:21:39.63 Show me that. 00:21:40.66\00:21:40.70 Let me look at that box 00:21:41.70\00:21:41.73 because there it is already done. 00:21:42.76\00:21:42.80 And you're just looking for those pieces fit. 00:21:44.13\00:21:44.17 And so it is that Jesus brought 00:21:46.57\00:21:46.60 so much of the Old Testament to light. 00:21:48.24\00:21:48.27 "Meanwhile," the author goes on to say, 00:21:51.97\00:21:52.01 "Jesus came to be our Representative 00:21:53.98\00:21:54.01 and our Savior. 00:21:56.11\00:21:56.14 He would take our place 00:21:58.68\00:21:58.71 in the fight and defeat the serpent. 00:22:00.38\00:22:00.42 Similarly, in Hebrews, Jesus is the 'pioneer' 00:22:02.62\00:22:02.65 or 'the captain' or 'the forerunner' 00:22:05.49\00:22:05.52 or 'the champion' of our faith." 00:22:07.29\00:22:07.32 Hebrews 2:10. "He fights for us and represents us." 00:22:09.76\00:22:09.79 I love that. 00:22:13.36\00:22:13.40 He fights for us, and He represents us. 00:22:14.40\00:22:14.46 This also means that what God did for Jesus, 00:22:16.67\00:22:16.70 our representative, the Father wants to do for us. 00:22:20.14\00:22:20.17 He who exalted Jesus at His right hand also wants us 00:22:23.54\00:22:23.57 to sit down with Jesus on His throne, 00:22:26.81\00:22:26.84 I just take that in friends. 00:22:28.78\00:22:28.81 God promises that those who overcome will sit down 00:22:30.95\00:22:30.98 with Christ on His throne. 00:22:34.25\00:22:34.28 That is the promise given to us in Revelation 3:21. 00:22:35.68\00:22:35.72 And I love that. 00:22:40.36\00:22:40.39 So "God's message to us 00:22:41.62\00:22:41.66 in Jesus includes not only what Jesus said, 00:22:42.89\00:22:42.92 but also what the Father did through Him to Him, 00:22:46.16\00:22:46.19 all for our," the quarterly says, 00:22:49.93\00:22:49.96 "temporal and eternal benefit." 00:22:53.23\00:22:53.27 And I added the word and spiritual benefit. 00:22:54.87\00:22:54.90 So let's just think about this for a second, 00:22:57.97\00:22:58.01 there's one question we're going to close with here 00:23:00.21\00:23:00.24 in our lesson for Monday. 00:23:02.31\00:23:02.34 "Think through what it means 00:23:04.18\00:23:04.21 that Jesus God came to this earth 00:23:05.61\00:23:05.65 and why should this truth bring so much hope to us?" 00:23:09.45\00:23:09.48 Think through what that means? 00:23:13.92\00:23:13.96 What does it mean that Jesus came to this earth 00:23:15.56\00:23:15.59 that God came to this earth in the person of Jesus Christ 00:23:17.86\00:23:17.89 and why should that bring so much hope to us? 00:23:20.10\00:23:20.13 I believe that one of the things 00:23:22.66\00:23:22.70 that we see in that picture of God 00:23:24.73\00:23:24.77 coming in the person of Jesus Christ 00:23:27.60\00:23:27.64 and why it brings so much hope 00:23:29.10\00:23:29.14 is because it reminds us of God's undying love. 00:23:30.51\00:23:30.54 God so loved the world 00:23:33.41\00:23:33.44 that He gave His only begotten Son. 00:23:35.68\00:23:35.71 Stop right there 00:23:37.45\00:23:37.48 because that first part of that verse 00:23:38.78\00:23:38.81 belongs to every human being on planet earth. 00:23:41.78\00:23:41.82 Yes, there was a purpose for that love 00:23:44.42\00:23:44.45 that unconditional love to the world 00:23:46.25\00:23:46.29 was so that whoever believes in Him 00:23:48.36\00:23:48.39 might not perish, 00:23:50.56\00:23:50.59 but have everlasting life or eternal life. 00:23:51.69\00:23:51.73 But God still so loved the world 00:23:54.00\00:23:54.00 that He gave His only begotten Son. 00:23:55.66\00:23:55.70 That is a past tense fact. 00:23:57.10\00:23:57.13 God has given the gift. 00:24:00.17\00:24:00.20 And as Pastor John said earlier, 00:24:01.90\00:24:01.94 that gift cost something, 00:24:04.51\00:24:04.54 and that gift has been put on our door. 00:24:06.34\00:24:06.37 It's been delivered to our front doorstep. 00:24:08.04\00:24:08.08 Why are we just letting it sit out there 00:24:10.75\00:24:10.78 when it's been purchased and it's been delivered? 00:24:12.88\00:24:12.91 God says it's a gift, take it, unwrap it, 00:24:15.55\00:24:15.58 use it, it's yours, you need it. 00:24:18.42\00:24:18.45 Thank you, James, thank you so much. 00:24:21.09\00:24:21.12 As you know, if you've been following us 00:24:23.32\00:24:23.36 from week to week, 00:24:24.59\00:24:24.63 we're just getting started. 00:24:25.66\00:24:25.69 So don't go away. 00:24:26.96\00:24:27.00 We have three more days and we'll be right back. 00:24:28.03\00:24:28.06 Ever wish you could watch 00:24:35.84\00:24:37.04 a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel again, 00:24:37.04\00:24:37.07 or share it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter? 00:25:55.15\00:25:55.18 "By His Son, 00:25:58.79\00:25:58.82 whom He has appointed heir of all things, 00:26:00.79\00:26:00.82 through whom also He made the world." 00:26:02.89\00:26:02.92 We won't touch on creation 00:26:05.93\00:26:05.96 'cause I think Ryan's going to talk about that. 00:26:07.13\00:26:07.20 Verse 3, "Who being the brightness of His glory," 00:26:09.30\00:26:09.33 that's our first phrase, 00:26:13.90\00:26:13.94 "and the express image of His person," 00:26:15.40\00:26:15.44 that's the second phrase, 00:26:18.87\00:26:18.91 "and upholding all things by the word of His power, 00:26:20.68\00:26:20.71 when He had Himself purged our sins, 00:26:23.04\00:26:23.08 sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." 00:26:25.58\00:26:25.61 So what about these two phrases, 00:26:28.82\00:26:28.85 the brightness of His glory. 00:26:30.49\00:26:30.52 The word brightness in Greek, 00:26:32.82\00:26:32.85 this is the only time it's used in the New Testament. 00:26:34.66\00:26:34.69 And it means radiance, 00:26:37.16\00:26:37.19 literally, someone who shines from within. 00:26:38.46\00:26:38.49 The brightness of His glory, what does His glory mean? 00:26:42.13\00:26:42.16 Now the lesson brings out 00:26:47.84\00:26:47.87 and we are going to touch on it, 00:26:49.40\00:26:49.44 the lesson brings out His glory is the visible 00:26:51.01\00:26:51.04 manifestation of His presence. 00:26:53.71\00:26:53.74 And that's truly biblical, 00:26:55.74\00:26:55.78 clearly biblical, and we see it. 00:26:57.38\00:26:57.41 But I also want to touch on the fact that His glory 00:26:59.28\00:26:59.31 also is His character. 00:27:02.02\00:27:02.05 So if we look at it from both perspectives, 00:27:04.25\00:27:04.29 we see the brightness of His glory, 00:27:06.89\00:27:06.92 the brightness of His character, 00:27:08.82\00:27:08.86 and then we'll also look at His visible presence. 00:27:11.19\00:27:11.23 So let's look at both, let's start with character. 00:27:13.83\00:27:13.86 For that we're going to Exodus 33. 00:27:15.73\00:27:15.76 Exodus Chapter 33. 00:27:18.47\00:27:18.50 And, of course, this is Moses speaking to God. 00:27:20.44\00:27:20.47 Exodus 33, we'll pick it up in verse 18. 00:27:23.47\00:27:23.51 "And he Moses said, 'Show me Your glory.'" 00:27:26.41\00:27:26.44 And what did God say? 00:27:31.41\00:27:31.45 "He said, 'I will make all My goodness pass before you, 00:27:32.85\00:27:32.88 I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. 00:27:36.48\00:27:36.52 I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, 00:27:39.62\00:27:39.65 I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.'" 00:27:42.22\00:27:42.26 And, you know, if you jump over one chapter, 00:27:45.69\00:27:45.73 we see the same thing represented in Exodus 34 00:27:47.36\00:27:47.40 where God says, "The Lord, 00:27:50.90\00:27:50.93 the Lord God, merciful and gracious, 00:27:52.47\00:27:52.50 long suffering, abounding in goodness and truth." 00:27:55.04\00:27:55.07 What is He saying? 00:27:57.87\00:27:57.91 "My glory is My character." 00:27:59.01\00:27:59.04 When Moses said, "Show me Your glory." 00:28:02.34\00:28:02.38 He wanted to see the character. 00:28:04.61\00:28:04.65 God revealed His character, God revealed His goodness, 00:28:06.35\00:28:06.38 God revealed His mercy. 00:28:10.05\00:28:10.09 If you look at the Book of Philippians, 00:28:12.22\00:28:12.25 I love the Book of Philippians. 00:28:13.62\00:28:13.66 Philippians 2:14-15. 00:28:15.19\00:28:15.22 We have this interesting text, it says, "Do all things," how? 00:28:18.26\00:28:18.29 "Without complaining and disputing, 00:28:21.50\00:28:21.53 that you may be blameless and harmless, 00:28:24.17\00:28:24.20 children of God without fault 00:28:27.34\00:28:27.37 in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, 00:28:29.64\00:28:29.67 among whom you shine as lights in the world." 00:28:32.47\00:28:32.51 How are we to shine? 00:28:37.28\00:28:37.31 As lights in the world. 00:28:38.35\00:28:38.38 Takeaway number one. 00:28:41.65\00:28:41.68 You and I are called to shine 00:28:43.22\00:28:43.25 with His character to the world. 00:28:46.19\00:28:46.22 That is our calling as Christians 00:28:48.86\00:28:48.89 to reveal the character, 00:28:50.93\00:28:50.96 the glory of God, 00:28:52.66\00:28:52.69 Jesus came to reveal the character of the Father, 00:28:54.56\00:28:54.56 He came to show what God was like. 00:28:56.73\00:28:56.77 But you and I, in addition, 00:28:59.70\00:28:59.73 are called to reveal His character to the world. 00:29:01.50\00:29:01.54 We're called to share His light. 00:29:04.71\00:29:04.74 We're called to live His life. 00:29:06.01\00:29:06.04 We're called to represent Him to the world. 00:29:08.34\00:29:08.38 Now let's look at the brightness of His glory, 00:29:10.91\00:29:10.95 not just being His character, which it is, 00:29:13.75\00:29:13.78 but let's look at it being the visible presence of God. 00:29:16.12\00:29:16.15 For that we're going back to Exodus, 00:29:19.49\00:29:19.52 Exodus Chapter 24. 00:29:21.86\00:29:21.89 You know, we have this whole giving 00:29:23.32\00:29:23.36 of the Sinaitic covenant, 00:29:25.29\00:29:25.33 Exodus 19, it begins, 00:29:26.86\00:29:26.90 God carries them on eagle's wings. 00:29:28.60\00:29:28.63 Exodus 20, we have the 10 commandments, 00:29:30.47\00:29:30.50 or 10 promises that God gives. 00:29:32.60\00:29:32.63 And then we see, of course, 00:29:34.67\00:29:34.70 the ratification of the Covenant 00:29:35.77\00:29:35.80 in blood in Exodus 24, 00:29:37.14\00:29:37.17 but we're picking it up in verse 15. 00:29:38.64\00:29:38.67 Exodus 24:15, "Moses went up into the mountain, 00:29:40.91\00:29:40.94 and a cloud covered the mountain. 00:29:45.25\00:29:45.28 Now the glory of the Lord rested on Mount Sinai, 00:29:48.62\00:29:48.65 and the cloud covered it six days. 00:29:51.12\00:29:51.15 And on the seventh day 00:29:53.89\00:29:53.92 He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 00:29:55.59\00:29:55.62 The sight of the glory of the Lord 00:29:58.43\00:29:58.46 was like a consuming fire 00:30:00.93\00:30:00.96 on the top of the mountain 00:30:02.96\00:30:03.00 in the eyes of the children of Israel." 00:30:04.37\00:30:04.40 God blessed His people with a visible manifestation 00:30:06.97\00:30:07.00 of His presence. 00:30:10.64\00:30:10.67 This was the consuming fire. 00:30:12.44\00:30:12.47 This was the cloud that covered the mountain. 00:30:14.11\00:30:14.14 Hebrews 12 tells us what 12:29. 00:30:17.78\00:30:17.81 "Our God is a consuming fire." 00:30:20.25\00:30:20.28 Takeaway number two. 00:30:24.75\00:30:24.79 Jesus came as the visible presence of God. 00:30:26.02\00:30:26.05 He came as the light of the world. 00:30:29.92\00:30:29.96 John 8:12, "He says, 'I am the light of the world. 00:30:33.09\00:30:33.13 He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, 00:30:36.83\00:30:36.87 but shall have the light of life.'" 00:30:40.40\00:30:40.44 Jesus came as the visible presence of God. 00:30:42.80\00:30:42.84 Takeaway number three. 00:30:46.14\00:30:46.17 This is still dealing 00:30:47.21\00:30:47.24 with the visible presence of God. 00:30:48.28\00:30:48.31 The presence of God, 00:30:49.84\00:30:49.88 this is the brightness of His glory. 00:30:51.01\00:30:51.05 It brings terror to the wicked. 00:30:53.75\00:30:53.78 We would think the presence of God is pleasant, 00:30:56.22\00:30:56.25 but as Pastor James already talked about Adam and Eve, 00:30:58.32\00:30:58.35 when they sinned 00:31:00.89\00:31:00.92 they didn't want to communicate, 00:31:01.96\00:31:01.99 they didn't want the presence of God. 00:31:03.39\00:31:03.43 I'm reminded of the sixth seal in Revelation. 00:31:05.66\00:31:05.69 Revelation Chapter 6. 00:31:09.13\00:31:09.16 Remember that? 00:31:11.40\00:31:11.43 The wicked, this is just before the coming of Christ, 00:31:12.70\00:31:12.73 and they're terrified at the presence of God. 00:31:14.80\00:31:14.84 And they cry out to the rocks and say, 00:31:18.27\00:31:18.31 "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him 00:31:20.38\00:31:20.41 who sits on the throne, 00:31:24.35\00:31:24.38 and from the wrath of the lamb 00:31:26.15\00:31:26.18 for the great day of His wrath is come 00:31:27.38\00:31:27.42 and who shall be able to stand?" 00:31:28.85\00:31:28.88 The presence of God, 00:31:30.59\00:31:30.62 it brings terror to the wicked. 00:31:31.69\00:31:31.72 Takeaway number four. 00:31:33.36\00:31:33.39 The presence of God 00:31:34.72\00:31:34.76 provides guidance to His children. 00:31:36.02\00:31:36.06 I love that. 00:31:39.29\00:31:39.33 We see this in Exodus 40. 00:31:40.36\00:31:40.40 But we see this whole picture of the children of Israel 00:31:42.50\00:31:42.53 and the encampment. 00:31:45.20\00:31:45.23 And when the pillar of cloud moved, 00:31:46.70\00:31:46.74 they picked up their tents, 00:31:48.94\00:31:48.97 and they moved along with the presence of God. 00:31:50.31\00:31:50.34 It provided guidance, it provided direction. 00:31:53.74\00:31:53.78 Greg has always said, 00:31:55.98\00:31:56.01 we are called to the Ministry of 3ABN. 00:31:57.81\00:31:57.85 And right now the pillar of cloud is here. 00:32:01.15\00:32:01.18 But if for whatever reason, 00:32:04.19\00:32:04.22 God picks up our pillar of cloud 00:32:05.89\00:32:05.92 and moves it on, 00:32:08.36\00:32:08.39 that means we need to follow. 00:32:09.66\00:32:09.69 That means we need to go where God leads. 00:32:11.16\00:32:11.19 In Exodus 40:34, we see this, 00:32:15.33\00:32:15.36 "The cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting." 00:32:17.87\00:32:17.90 This is the visible presence of God. 00:32:19.97\00:32:20.00 This is the brightness of His glory 00:32:22.37\00:32:22.40 that we talked about in Hebrews. 00:32:24.21\00:32:24.24 "And the glory of the Lord filled the temple." 00:32:25.84\00:32:25.87 Jump down to verse 36. 00:32:27.84\00:32:27.88 "Whenever the cloud was taken up 00:32:30.51\00:32:30.55 from above the tabernacle, 00:32:31.88\00:32:31.91 the children of Israel would go onward in their journeys, 00:32:33.72\00:32:33.75 they would progress. 00:32:36.48\00:32:36.52 But if the cloud was not taken up," Pastor John, 00:32:38.25\00:32:38.29 "they did not journey 00:32:41.02\00:32:41.06 till the day it was taken up." 00:32:42.42\00:32:42.46 The presence of God provides guidance 00:32:45.06\00:32:45.09 to His children. 00:32:46.73\00:32:46.76 Takeaway number five. 00:32:47.86\00:32:47.93 I love this. 00:32:49.00\00:32:49.03 The presence of God brings joy. 00:32:50.07\00:32:50.10 Remember, we said the presence of God 00:32:52.90\00:32:52.93 brings terror to the wicked and it does, 00:32:54.40\00:32:54.44 but the presence of God brings joy to His children. 00:32:56.77\00:32:56.81 Psalm 16:11, 00:33:00.94\00:33:00.98 "You will show me that's God will show me the path of life, 00:33:02.28\00:33:02.31 in your presence is fullness of joy, 00:33:06.65\00:33:06.68 at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." 00:33:09.58\00:33:09.62 Do you lack joy in your life? 00:33:13.59\00:33:13.62 Seek the presence of God. 00:33:15.86\00:33:15.89 The presence of God brings joy. 00:33:18.69\00:33:18.73 Takeaway number six. 00:33:20.53\00:33:20.56 The presence of God brings rest. 00:33:21.83\00:33:21.86 Exodus 33:14, "And He said, God is speaking, 00:33:25.23\00:33:25.27 'My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.'" 00:33:29.77\00:33:29.80 The presence of God brings rest. 00:33:34.84\00:33:34.88 Now in our final moments, 00:33:36.78\00:33:36.81 let's look at the second phrase, 00:33:38.05\00:33:38.08 we already looked at 00:33:39.58\00:33:39.61 the brightness of His glory being God's character, 00:33:40.68\00:33:40.72 which we are called to represent, 00:33:43.25\00:33:43.28 as well as the visible presence of God. 00:33:45.15\00:33:45.19 But what is the express image of His person? 00:33:48.39\00:33:48.42 It's very fascinating to me, 00:33:51.09\00:33:51.13 the express image is actually a word in Greek. 00:33:52.66\00:33:52.69 That is a tool used for engraving. 00:33:56.56\00:33:56.60 It's a mold or a stamp. 00:33:59.57\00:33:59.60 So you know what a stamp is. 00:34:03.17\00:34:03.20 It gives the exact representation, 00:34:04.47\00:34:04.51 the exact likeness. 00:34:07.28\00:34:07.31 There's a perfect correspondence, 00:34:09.58\00:34:09.61 in essence, in being in the likeness in character, 00:34:11.38\00:34:11.41 between the Father and the Son. 00:34:15.42\00:34:15.45 Remember, Jesus said to fill up, 00:34:17.95\00:34:17.99 this is in John 14:9, 00:34:19.42\00:34:19.45 "Jesus said, 'Have I been with you so long, 00:34:21.26\00:34:21.29 and yet, you have not known Me, Philip? 00:34:23.59\00:34:23.63 He who has seen Me has seen the Father, 00:34:27.03\00:34:27.10 how can you say, 'Show us the Father?'" 00:34:29.63\00:34:29.66 That's because Jesus is the mold, 00:34:32.00\00:34:32.03 the exact representation of the Father. 00:34:34.24\00:34:34.27 John 1:18. 00:34:38.44\00:34:38.47 "No one has seen God at any time. 00:34:39.51\00:34:39.54 The only begotten Son, 00:34:41.71\00:34:41.74 who is in the bosom of the Father, 00:34:42.91\00:34:42.94 He has declared Him." 00:34:44.28\00:34:44.31 Takeaway number seven. 00:34:46.48\00:34:46.51 Jesus came to reveal the Father. 00:34:48.15\00:34:48.18 If you know Jesus, you know the Father. 00:34:51.29\00:34:51.32 He came to reveal God, 00:34:53.92\00:34:53.96 just as no one has seen the Son 00:34:56.02\00:34:56.06 except through its brightness. 00:34:58.19\00:34:58.23 We can only know the Father through Jesus. 00:35:00.66\00:35:00.70 So our takeaway is you and I are called 00:35:03.53\00:35:03.57 to share the character of God to the world. 00:35:05.37\00:35:05.40 Jesus came as the visible presence of God. 00:35:07.77\00:35:07.80 The presence of God brings terror to the wicked, 00:35:10.44\00:35:10.47 but it brings guidance, joy, and rest to the righteous. 00:35:12.84\00:35:12.87 And Jesus came to reveal the Father. 00:35:16.61\00:35:16.64 Amen. Amen. 00:35:19.11\00:35:19.15 Thank you so much. 00:35:20.72\00:35:20.75 Wonderful foundation laid, thank you guys so much. 00:35:22.05\00:35:22.08 I have Wednesday's lesson. 00:35:24.85\00:35:24.89 My name is Ryan Day, 00:35:26.82\00:35:26.86 and Wednesday's lesson is entitled 00:35:27.96\00:35:27.99 Through Whom He Made the Universe. 00:35:29.39\00:35:29.42 The opening statement here says, 00:35:33.26\00:35:33.29 "Hebrews affirms that God created the world 00:35:34.50\00:35:34.56 'through' or 'by' Jesus 00:35:37.27\00:35:37.30 and that Jesus sustains the world 00:35:40.27\00:35:40.30 with His powerful Word." 00:35:43.37\00:35:43.41 And so there's no denying 00:35:45.44\00:35:45.47 that the Bible is very clear how Christ is Creator, 00:35:47.21\00:35:47.24 that He is responsible for creating all things. 00:35:50.58\00:35:50.61 I think of John 1:1, 00:35:53.65\00:35:53.68 "Right in the beginning was the Word, 00:35:55.52\00:35:55.55 and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." 00:35:57.05\00:35:57.09 But it goes on to say that, 00:35:58.59\00:35:58.62 "Through Him, all things were made, 00:36:00.46\00:36:00.49 and nothing was made unless it was made by Him." 00:36:02.66\00:36:02.69 So in this case, Christ is Creator. 00:36:04.73\00:36:04.76 We even see this in Hebrews 1:2-3, 00:36:06.76\00:36:06.80 we've read these verses many times, 00:36:10.20\00:36:10.23 but hey, we might as well read them again, right? 00:36:11.60\00:36:11.63 Because the more we hear them, the more we remember them. 00:36:13.34\00:36:13.37 Hebrews 1:2-3, it says, "Has in these last days," 00:36:15.60\00:36:15.64 speaking of Christ, "spok to us by His Son, 00:36:19.64\00:36:19.67 through whom He has appointed heirs of all things, 00:36:23.01\00:36:23.04 through whom also He made the world's, 00:36:26.05\00:36:26.08 whom being in the brightness of His glory, 00:36:29.22\00:36:29.25 and the express image of His person, 00:36:31.05\00:36:31.09 and upholding all things by the Word of His power, 00:36:33.05\00:36:33.09 when He had by himself purged our sins, 00:36:35.82\00:36:35.86 sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." 00:36:38.66\00:36:38.69 So before we go on any further, 00:36:42.53\00:36:42.56 for any more commentary on this idea 00:36:44.87\00:36:44.90 that Christ in which made all things, He is the... 00:36:47.00\00:36:47.04 All the universe is made by Him. 00:36:50.27\00:36:50.31 Let's jump back to some text in the Old Testament here 00:36:51.94\00:36:51.97 because the lesson brings out 00:36:54.08\00:36:54.11 that many people have a discrepancy 00:36:55.41\00:36:55.44 when they read some of the Old Testament texts 00:36:57.61\00:36:57.65 where it talks about God alone being creator, 00:36:59.78\00:36:59.81 and then they get to the New Testament 00:37:03.39\00:37:03.42 and they read these texts 00:37:04.85\00:37:04.89 where it says Christ is Creator. 00:37:05.92\00:37:05.95 Well, who's the Creator, right? 00:37:06.99\00:37:07.02 Let's go back to Isaiah 44:24. 00:37:08.42\00:37:08.46 And then we're going to skip over one chapter 00:37:11.73\00:37:11.76 and read Isaiah 45:18. 00:37:13.36\00:37:13.40 But right now, Isaiah 44:24, 00:37:16.20\00:37:16.23 notice what the Bible says, 00:37:19.27\00:37:19.30 "Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer," 00:37:20.64\00:37:20.67 that word, Lord is Jehovah. 00:37:22.87\00:37:22.90 "Thus says the Lord, Jehovah, your Redeemer, 00:37:24.94\00:37:24.97 and He who formed you from the womb, 00:37:27.98\00:37:28.01 'I am the Lord, who makes all things, 00:37:32.01\00:37:32.05 who stretched out the heavens all alone, 00:37:34.32\00:37:34.35 who spreads abroad the earth," 00:37:37.22\00:37:37.25 notice this, "by Myself." 00:37:39.09\00:37:39.12 And so, again, many people read this, 00:37:41.12\00:37:41.16 wait a second, God created but yet Jesus created. 00:37:43.12\00:37:43.16 Again, Isaiah 45:18. 00:37:46.76\00:37:46.80 Let's read this one. 00:37:48.50\00:37:48.53 Isaiah 45:18, "For thus says the Lord, 00:37:49.56\00:37:49.60 who created the heavens, who is God," 00:37:52.80\00:37:52.83 okay, "who formed the earth and made it, 00:37:56.34\00:37:56.37 who has established it, who did not create it in vain, 00:37:58.84\00:37:58.87 who formed it to be inhabited. 00:38:03.14\00:38:03.18 'I am the Lord," and there it is, 00:38:05.71\00:38:05.75 "and there is no other." 00:38:07.45\00:38:07.48 There's some singularity statement here, 00:38:09.92\00:38:09.95 "I am God, there is no other." 00:38:12.35\00:38:12.39 I'm the one that created all things. 00:38:14.66\00:38:14.69 Nehemiah 9:6, got to read this one as well. 00:38:16.93\00:38:16.96 It fits right into this theme we're talking about. 00:38:19.89\00:38:19.93 Nehemiah 9:6, "You alone are the Lord, 00:38:21.83\00:38:21.86 you have made heaven, 00:38:27.04\00:38:27.07 the heaven of heavens, with all their host, 00:38:28.74\00:38:28.77 the earth and everything on it, 00:38:31.94\00:38:31.97 the seas and all that is in them, 00:38:33.68\00:38:33.71 and you preserve them all. 00:38:35.88\00:38:35.91 The host of heaven worships You." 00:38:38.18\00:38:38.21 And so the idea which the lesson 00:38:41.25\00:38:41.28 brings out very intelligently, 00:38:42.85\00:38:42.88 some think that Jesus was merely 00:38:44.52\00:38:44.55 the instrument through whom God created, right? 00:38:46.72\00:38:46.76 This is not possible because first, 00:38:50.03\00:38:50.06 of course, verse we read, "For Paul, 00:38:52.16\00:38:52.19 Jesus is the Lord who created the world. 00:38:53.90\00:38:53.93 He's not merely a helper." 00:38:56.46\00:38:56.50 And some people see it that way. 00:38:58.33\00:38:58.37 I hear people all the time. 00:38:59.57\00:38:59.60 They'll say, "Well, Jesus is my Savior, 00:39:00.70\00:39:00.74 Jesus is my Lord." 00:39:02.24\00:39:02.27 But God created and the idea is there 00:39:03.51\00:39:03.54 is that somehow Jesus is somehow 00:39:06.21\00:39:06.24 some lesser God or some demigod, 00:39:07.94\00:39:07.98 or in many cases, some people deny 00:39:10.35\00:39:10.38 just outright the divinity of Christ and say, 00:39:12.78\00:39:12.81 well, there's God and then there's Christ. 00:39:14.82\00:39:14.85 But when you get into the Book of Hebrews, 00:39:17.25\00:39:17.29 and many other passages throughout the Bible, 00:39:19.15\00:39:19.19 we are very, very clear in the fact 00:39:21.22\00:39:21.26 that Jesus is God and He is Creator. 00:39:22.92\00:39:22.96 He created all things. 00:39:26.86\00:39:26.90 I love Hebrews 1:8, and verse 10. 00:39:29.16\00:39:29.20 We also find this being reaffirmed 00:39:32.63\00:39:32.67 in Psalm 102:25-27, 00:39:34.47\00:39:34.50 which is where Paul draws these words from, 00:39:38.14\00:39:38.17 but again, Hebrews Chapter 1 00:39:40.58\00:39:40.61 we're going to read verses 8 and 10. 00:39:41.81\00:39:41.84 Notice what the Bible says, "But to the Son He says, 00:39:43.45\00:39:43.48 'Your throne," here it is, "O, God, is forever and ever, 00:39:47.08\00:39:47.12 a scepter of righteousness 00:39:52.22\00:39:52.25 is the scepter of Your kingdom.'" 00:39:54.02\00:39:54.06 And then verse 10, with that, 00:39:55.62\00:39:55.66 "And 'You, Lord, in the beginning, 00:39:56.96\00:39:56.99 laid the foundation of the earth, 00:39:59.06\00:39:59.09 and the heavens are the work of Your hands." 00:40:01.30\00:40:01.33 Let's make this clear. 00:40:04.27\00:40:04.30 Jesus is God. 00:40:05.57\00:40:05.60 Jesus is Creator. 00:40:08.10\00:40:08.14 There's no way of getting around that. 00:40:10.91\00:40:10.94 I have to emphasize that again because just recently, 00:40:12.74\00:40:12.77 even in my own ministry, as I travel around, 00:40:15.88\00:40:15.91 and I get to speak with many different people, 00:40:18.38\00:40:18.41 and go to many different churches, 00:40:19.95\00:40:19.98 there's a movement, there's a movement of people 00:40:21.15\00:40:21.18 that seem to be preaching this idea 00:40:23.15\00:40:23.18 that there's just one true God 00:40:25.12\00:40:25.15 and it's the Father. 00:40:26.79\00:40:26.82 And Jesus is not God at all, 00:40:27.86\00:40:27.89 but yet they're okay with saying He's Creator, 00:40:29.66\00:40:29.69 but the fact that He is Creator makes Him God. 00:40:31.79\00:40:31.83 In fact the Bible says it you can't get around it, 00:40:35.13\00:40:35.16 Jesus Christ is God, He is Creator. 00:40:37.27\00:40:37.30 In fact, Hebrews 2:10 says 00:40:41.27\00:40:41.30 that the universe was created by or through, 00:40:43.87\00:40:43.91 in this case, the Father because it's talking about 00:40:47.44\00:40:47.48 what the Father is doing through Jesus. 00:40:49.34\00:40:49.38 And so this is where some confusion comes in. 00:40:51.91\00:40:51.95 Wait a second, the Father is Creator, 00:40:53.52\00:40:53.55 and the Son is also Creator. 00:40:55.18\00:40:55.22 The exact same expressions again 00:40:57.15\00:40:57.19 that we find in Hebrews 2:10, 00:40:59.09\00:40:59.12 or apply to Jesus in Hebrews 1:2 00:41:01.56\00:41:01.59 which we read earlier, 00:41:04.93\00:41:04.96 the Father created and Jesus created, 00:41:06.06\00:41:06.09 did you hear that? 00:41:08.56\00:41:08.60 The Father created and Jesus created, right? 00:41:09.56\00:41:09.60 We see this in Hebrews 1 and 2, in 10, also Hebrews 2:10. 00:41:13.17\00:41:13.20 There is a perfect agreement between the Father and Son 00:41:17.97\00:41:18.01 in purpose and activity. 00:41:21.81\00:41:21.84 This is part of the mystery of the Godhead, right? 00:41:24.28\00:41:24.31 How do you explain these things? 00:41:27.45\00:41:27.48 Only God can fully explain these things. 00:41:28.82\00:41:28.85 Jesus created and God created 00:41:31.19\00:41:31.22 though that is referencing the Father, 00:41:33.86\00:41:33.89 but there is only one Creator, okay? 00:41:35.89\00:41:35.92 God, God is Creator, 00:41:38.49\00:41:38.53 of course, which implies that Jesus is indeed God. 00:41:40.46\00:41:40.50 We even see this very clearly communicated in the famous 00:41:44.27\00:41:44.30 what we call the Shammahs. 00:41:47.30\00:41:47.34 Deuteronomy 6:4, 00:41:49.10\00:41:49.14 it literally in the original language says, 00:41:51.34\00:41:51.37 "Sh'ma Yisrael, Adonai, Eloheinu, Adonai Echad." 00:41:53.27\00:41:53.31 "Hear, O Israel, our God is one!" 00:41:58.08\00:41:58.11 And that word one there, 00:42:02.15\00:42:02.18 it's interesting that Moses would use the word Echad 00:42:03.28\00:42:03.32 because he could have used the word Yachid, 00:42:06.15\00:42:06.19 which Yachid is a very rigid singularity. 00:42:08.76\00:42:08.79 But it's interesting, he used the same word 00:42:11.53\00:42:11.56 to describe that relationship 00:42:13.23\00:42:13.26 that when God created Adam and Eve, 00:42:14.83\00:42:14.83 He said, Adam and Eve, you are one, Echad. 00:42:16.10\00:42:16.13 In other words, the word Echad is describing again, 00:42:20.54\00:42:20.57 our Lord our God, Elohim Adonai. 00:42:23.24\00:42:23.27 He is Echad, He is one in unity. 00:42:26.01\00:42:26.04 But how can you take one individual 00:42:30.05\00:42:30.08 and say that's a great unity? 00:42:31.55\00:42:31.58 We know that the Father and the Son share divinity, 00:42:34.18\00:42:34.22 the Father and the Son are Creator. 00:42:37.59\00:42:37.62 How do we explain that in our finite human minds, 00:42:40.06\00:42:40.09 we simply can't. 00:42:43.12\00:42:43.16 It's a mystery, but at the end of the day, 00:42:44.39\00:42:44.43 we can take what the Bible tells us, 00:42:46.03\00:42:46.06 and we can believe it, 00:42:47.93\00:42:47.96 we can proclaim it because the scripture is clear. 00:42:49.06\00:42:49.10 The Bible even goes on to say, meanwhile, that Jesus Christ... 00:42:52.30\00:42:52.33 In fact, in Hebrews 4:13, 00:42:55.50\00:42:55.54 Christ is also called the Judge, 00:42:57.94\00:42:57.97 and you can't call Him Judge unless obviously, 00:43:00.28\00:43:00.31 by that He has given that name. 00:43:02.61\00:43:02.64 He's given that title 00:43:04.25\00:43:04.28 because He has indeed created all things. 00:43:05.31\00:43:05.35 He is Creator. 00:43:07.85\00:43:07.88 Let's read Hebrews 4:12-13. 00:43:09.15\00:43:09.18 It says, "For the word of God is living and powerful." 00:43:11.72\00:43:11.75 What is that word? 00:43:14.06\00:43:14.09 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, 00:43:15.26\00:43:15.29 and the Word was God, 00:43:17.16\00:43:17.19 we're talking about Jesus Christ. 00:43:18.23\00:43:18.26 "For the word of God is living and powerful, 00:43:20.10\00:43:20.13 and sharper than any two-edged sword, 00:43:21.76\00:43:21.80 piercing even the division of soul and spirit, 00:43:23.47\00:43:23.50 and the joints and marrow, 00:43:25.47\00:43:25.50 and is a discerner of the thoughts 00:43:26.84\00:43:26.87 and intents of the heart." 00:43:29.34\00:43:29.37 But here comes the judgment aspect in verse 13. 00:43:30.41\00:43:30.44 "And there is no creature hidden from His sight, 00:43:33.27\00:43:33.31 but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him 00:43:37.85\00:43:37.88 to whom we must give account." 00:43:40.98\00:43:41.02 The fact that He is judge, the fact that He is Creator. 00:43:43.49\00:43:43.52 He is Creator, He is judge, 00:43:45.85\00:43:45.89 but also the Bible goes on to describe Christ, 00:43:47.76\00:43:47.79 by whom God created all things, 00:43:50.46\00:43:50.49 even the universe. 00:43:52.56\00:43:52.59 He is the sustainer. 00:43:54.73\00:43:54.73 He is the sustainer of creation. 00:43:56.67\00:43:56.70 Hebrews 1:3 notice again, what it says, 00:43:59.50\00:43:59.53 "Who being the brightness of His glory 00:44:02.70\00:44:02.74 and the express image of His person, 00:44:04.81\00:44:04.84 and upholding all things by the Word of His power, 00:44:06.78\00:44:06.81 when He had by Himself purged our sins, 00:44:09.84\00:44:09.88 sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." 00:44:12.61\00:44:12.65 Even Colossians 1:17 says, 00:44:17.09\00:44:17.12 "And He is before all things," 00:44:19.75\00:44:19.79 and notice, "in Him all things consist." 00:44:21.42\00:44:21.46 You know what that means? 00:44:25.49\00:44:25.53 Christ is not only the Creator, 00:44:26.56\00:44:26.59 but all of creation is consisted, 00:44:28.26\00:44:28.30 it is sustained through Him. 00:44:30.83\00:44:30.87 And then lesson brings out here, 00:44:33.50\00:44:33.54 "The sustaining action, 00:44:34.70\00:44:34.74 probably includes the idea of guidance or governance. 00:44:36.50\00:44:36.54 The Greek word pheron," 00:44:41.18\00:44:41.21 which again goes on to mean sustaining or carrying, 00:44:42.98\00:44:43.01 "is used to describe the wind driving a boat 00:44:45.85\00:44:45.88 in Acts 27:15, 17. 00:44:49.28\00:44:49.32 Or it also describes 00:44:52.72\00:44:52.75 God leading the prophets 00:44:54.26\00:44:54.29 in 2 Peter 1:21. 00:44:56.56\00:44:56.59 Thus in a real sense, 00:44:59.46\00:44:59.49 Jesus not only created us but sustains us as well." 00:45:01.70\00:45:01.73 And I love this. 00:45:05.90\00:45:05.93 "Every breath, every heartbeat, 00:45:06.97\00:45:07.00 every moment of our existence is found in Him, 00:45:09.17\00:45:09.20 Jesus, the foundation of all created existence." 00:45:13.24\00:45:13.27 Jesus is the foundation of all. 00:45:19.18\00:45:19.21 He is the Creator. 00:45:21.18\00:45:21.22 He is God. 00:45:23.02\00:45:23.05 And we're just going to leave it at that. 00:45:25.35\00:45:25.39 That's pretty clear. 00:45:27.49\00:45:27.52 Praise the Lord. Thank you very much. 00:45:28.99\00:45:29.02 We now move to Thursday's portion 00:45:30.99\00:45:31.03 of this study guide. 00:45:33.46\00:45:33.50 And the title is Today I Have Begotten You. 00:45:35.30\00:45:35.33 This is concerning Jesus. 00:45:38.57\00:45:38.60 My name is John Dinzey. 00:45:40.80\00:45:40.84 For those of you listening on radio, 00:45:41.87\00:45:41.90 there's a different person now speaking. 00:45:43.67\00:45:43.71 So we have an Exodus 2:4, 00:45:46.27\00:45:46.31 the fact that God heard Hebrews groaning 00:45:49.01\00:45:49.04 because of their sufferings, 00:45:53.35\00:45:53.38 and God remembered His covenant 00:45:55.45\00:45:55.48 that He made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 00:45:57.89\00:45:57.92 God is a covenant keeping God 00:46:00.52\00:46:00.56 and the promises we find in the Old Testament, 00:46:03.93\00:46:03.96 the scriptures we find in the Old Testament, 00:46:06.96\00:46:07.00 the stories in the Old Testament have... 00:46:08.83\00:46:08.86 You see some of the borrowing in the Book of Hebrews, 00:46:12.73\00:46:12.77 and we're going to talk about one of those right here. 00:46:15.60\00:46:15.64 In Luke 1:72-73, 00:46:19.01\00:46:19.04 Zacharias made this powerful message 72, 73, 00:46:22.18\00:46:22.21 "To perform," concerning Jesus, he grabbed the child, 00:46:27.02\00:46:27.05 Jesus in His arms, and he says, 00:46:30.25\00:46:30.29 "To perform the mercy promised to our fathers 00:46:31.99\00:46:32.02 and to remember His holy covenant, 00:46:35.52\00:46:35.56 the oath which He swear to our father Abraham." 00:46:38.26\00:46:38.29 Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, 00:46:43.16\00:46:43.20 came to fulfill the promise. 00:46:47.30\00:46:47.34 Now look at Luke 1:31-32. 00:46:50.21\00:46:50.24 Talking to Mary, the angel says, 00:46:54.74\00:46:54.78 "You will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, 00:46:57.65\00:46:57.68 and shall call His name Jesus. 00:47:01.72\00:47:01.75 He will be great, 00:47:04.15\00:47:04.19 and will be called the Son of the Highest, 00:47:05.52\00:47:05.55 and the Lord God will give Him 00:47:08.96\00:47:08.99 the throne of His father David." 00:47:10.63\00:47:10.66 Now this is powerful. 00:47:14.76\00:47:14.83 Jesus has serious trouble with the Scribes 00:47:16.50\00:47:16.53 and the Pharisees and the Sadducees. 00:47:19.00\00:47:19.03 They were constantly after Him to find some fault 00:47:21.20\00:47:21.24 because He was growing in popularity, 00:47:24.37\00:47:24.41 He was doing miracles, 00:47:26.24\00:47:26.27 and they were afraid 00:47:27.31\00:47:27.34 they were losing their influence 00:47:28.38\00:47:28.41 among the people. 00:47:30.38\00:47:30.41 So in John Chapter 8, 00:47:31.68\00:47:31.71 Jesus is speaking to the Scribes, 00:47:32.95\00:47:32.98 to the Pharisees, the Jews. 00:47:35.22\00:47:35.25 And beginning in verse 56, 00:47:36.85\00:47:36.89 you will hear something marvelous, 00:47:38.95\00:47:38.99 notice, "Your father Abraham rejoiced 00:47:41.09\00:47:41.12 to see My day, 00:47:43.86\00:47:43.89 and he saw it and was glad. 00:47:45.19\00:47:45.23 Then said the Jews unto Him, 00:47:48.00\00:47:48.03 'Thou are not yet fifty years old, 00:47:49.93\00:47:49.96 and has thou seen Abraham?" 00:47:52.37\00:47:52.40 Jesus said unto them, 00:47:54.64\00:47:54.67 'Verily, verily, I say unto you, 00:47:56.17\00:47:56.20 before Abraham was, I AM.'" 00:47:58.74\00:47:58.77 When He said this, they were shocked. 00:48:02.68\00:48:02.71 They were indignant. 00:48:05.98\00:48:06.01 They wanted to stone Jesus. 00:48:08.65\00:48:08.68 This is why verse 59 says, 00:48:10.49\00:48:10.52 "Then took they up stones to cast at Him, 00:48:11.65\00:48:11.69 but Jesus Hid himself and went out of the temple, 00:48:14.79\00:48:14.82 going through the midst of them, 00:48:18.09\00:48:18.13 and so passed by." 00:48:20.03\00:48:20.06 They tried to cut His mission short, 00:48:22.23\00:48:22.26 they tried to stone Him to death 00:48:24.77\00:48:24.80 because Jesus said, "I am the great I AM." 00:48:27.17\00:48:27.20 And so this is speaking of Jesus, 00:48:31.54\00:48:31.57 I'm reading to you from Signs of the Times, 00:48:34.74\00:48:34.78 August 29, 1900. 00:48:37.25\00:48:37.28 It says, "In speaking of His pre-existence, 00:48:39.41\00:48:39.45 Christ carries the mind back through that dateless ages. 00:48:42.82\00:48:42.85 He assures us that there was never a time 00:48:48.46\00:48:48.49 when He was not in close fellowship 00:48:51.26\00:48:51.29 with the eternal God. 00:48:54.00\00:48:54.00 He to whose voice the Jews were then listening 00:48:55.40\00:48:55.43 had been with God as one brought up with Him." 00:48:59.43\00:48:59.47 You see, there was no time in history past 00:49:03.41\00:49:03.44 in the eternal history past that Jesus did not exist. 00:49:06.27\00:49:06.31 He has always existed. 00:49:10.61\00:49:10.65 He is eternal. 00:49:12.28\00:49:12.31 Hebrews 1:5. 00:49:13.92\00:49:13.95 Now we focus in on the phrase, "I have begotten You. 00:49:15.68\00:49:15.72 Today I have begotten You? 00:49:20.72\00:49:20.76 Notice in Hebrews 1:5, 00:49:21.79\00:49:21.82 "For to which of the angels did He ever say, 00:49:23.66\00:49:23.69 'You are My Son, today I have begotten You?' 00:49:27.13\00:49:27.13 And again, 'I will be to Him a Father, 00:49:31.63\00:49:31.67 and He shall be to Me a Son?'" 00:49:34.34\00:49:34.37 There's so much in this one verse 00:49:36.04\00:49:36.07 that we don't have all the time 00:49:38.54\00:49:38.57 to exhaust all that it has here. 00:49:40.08\00:49:40.11 But yes, there are times in the Bible 00:49:42.64\00:49:42.68 when angels are referred to sons of God, 00:49:44.91\00:49:44.95 but it's separating Jesus from angels 00:49:47.35\00:49:47.38 because He is the Creator, He is God. 00:49:50.72\00:49:50.75 And there's something that occurs upon a given time. 00:49:53.76\00:49:53.79 You see Jesus when He's manifested 00:49:57.59\00:49:57.63 and when He takes upon Himself as a human, 00:50:00.23\00:50:00.26 as human flesh, 00:50:04.20\00:50:04.23 He is considered the only begotten Son of God. 00:50:06.03\00:50:06.07 But there's another time when we see this phrase. 00:50:09.57\00:50:09.60 "Today I have begotten You?" 00:50:14.28\00:50:14.31 And it's very interesting. 00:50:15.58\00:50:15.61 So I encourage you to listen. 00:50:16.71\00:50:16.75 The I in the Greek here is emphatic, 00:50:18.68\00:50:18.71 "I the Everlasting Father have begotten You 00:50:22.28\00:50:22.32 on this day that is on this day, 00:50:25.92\00:50:25.95 the day of Thy being manifested as My Son, 00:50:27.89\00:50:27.92 'the first-begotten of the dead.'" 00:50:31.23\00:50:31.26 You see, when Jesus Christ comes forth from the grave, 00:50:32.89\00:50:32.93 there's a revelation and a manifestation 00:50:36.77\00:50:36.80 in such a sense that the father declares, 00:50:40.34\00:50:40.37 this day have I begotten thee. 00:50:42.60\00:50:42.64 Now this is interesting because this is taken from Psalm 2:6-7. 00:50:45.24\00:50:45.27 Psalms 2:6-7, 00:50:50.18\00:50:50.21 "'Yet have I set My King 00:50:52.45\00:50:52.48 over upon My holy hill of Zion.' 00:50:54.55\00:50:54.58 'I will declare the decree, the Lord has said unto Me, 00:50:57.12\00:50:57.15 'Thou are My Son, 00:51:00.26\00:51:00.29 this day I have begotten Thee.'" 00:51:01.72\00:51:01.76 Now I mentioned earlier that the stories in the past 00:51:03.86\00:51:03.89 have references in the New Testament as well. 00:51:07.66\00:51:07.73 You see the whole theocracy, the kingdom of Israel, 00:51:10.60\00:51:10.63 had messianic import. 00:51:15.70\00:51:15.74 And when, actually this declaration 00:51:18.01\00:51:18.04 that we find in Psalm 2:6-7, 00:51:21.24\00:51:21.28 this is a phrase that the Lord uses 00:51:25.48\00:51:25.51 even for Solomon, 00:51:29.22\00:51:29.25 where it says, "I will be to him a father, 00:51:31.72\00:51:31.75 he shall be to me a son." 00:51:33.86\00:51:33.89 But this is like, solemn becomes an type 00:51:35.56\00:51:35.59 and Jesus becomes the antitype. 00:51:39.19\00:51:39.23 So let's consider this. 00:51:41.03\00:51:41.06 You see, the type of God's ultimately 00:51:42.20\00:51:42.23 subduing all enemies 00:51:45.97\00:51:46.00 under His son also is represented in David. 00:51:47.47\00:51:47.50 In the Book of 2 Samuel Chapter 8, 00:51:50.21\00:51:50.24 you will see a listing of David's victories 00:51:53.44\00:51:53.48 and the victories David had. 00:51:57.31\00:51:57.35 And notice what it says in 2 Samuel 8:15, it says, 00:51:59.48\00:51:59.51 "And David reigned over all Israel, 00:52:04.82\00:52:04.85 and David executed judgment 00:52:08.92\00:52:08.96 and justice unto all his people." 00:52:11.53\00:52:11.56 So David becomes a type and Christ is the antitype, 00:52:15.60\00:52:15.63 Jesus Christ, 00:52:19.17\00:52:19.20 by coming to this world becoming human, 00:52:21.04\00:52:21.07 just like you and I, enduring temptation 00:52:25.64\00:52:25.67 just like you and I, 00:52:28.21\00:52:28.24 being victorious, 00:52:29.51\00:52:29.54 dying upon the cross for us. 00:52:31.11\00:52:31.15 And when he dies upon the cross for us 00:52:33.52\00:52:33.55 and comes forth victorious, 00:52:35.28\00:52:35.32 resurrected on the third day, he wins the battle, 00:52:37.42\00:52:37.45 he wins the war, 00:52:42.09\00:52:42.12 he wins and he becomes the Son of God in a sense 00:52:43.66\00:52:43.69 as being established over the throne 00:52:48.06\00:52:48.10 that we're going to read in a moment. 00:52:51.67\00:52:51.70 And so Jesus, just like David is going to execute justice, 00:52:53.27\00:52:53.30 He's going to rule over, not just over Israel, 00:52:58.11\00:52:58.14 but over the whole world. 00:53:01.28\00:53:01.31 Jesus Christ will execute judgment 00:53:04.28\00:53:04.31 for His people. 00:53:06.31\00:53:06.35 2 Samuel 7:12-16, "God promised David, 00:53:07.38\00:53:07.42 I will set up your seed after you, 00:53:11.59\00:53:11.62 who will come from your body, 00:53:14.06\00:53:14.09 and I will establish his kingdom. 00:53:15.89\00:53:15.92 He shall build a house for My name, 00:53:18.26\00:53:18.29 and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 00:53:20.23\00:53:20.26 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. 00:53:24.27\00:53:24.30 And your house and your kingdom 00:53:27.60\00:53:27.64 shall be established forever before you. 00:53:29.17\00:53:29.20 Your throne shall be established forever." 00:53:31.31\00:53:31.34 This was because David wanted to build a temple, 00:53:34.18\00:53:34.21 but he could not, God told him, 00:53:38.48\00:53:38.51 your son is going to build a temple. 00:53:40.85\00:53:40.88 And here Solomon becomes a type and Jesus is the antitype 00:53:42.78\00:53:42.82 because just like God said to Solomon, 00:53:46.22\00:53:46.25 God says to his son, I will be to you a father, 00:53:49.32\00:53:49.36 and you shall be to Me a son, 00:53:52.29\00:53:52.33 just as we read in Hebrews 1:5. 00:53:53.46\00:53:53.50 So in Romans 1:3-4. 00:53:56.56\00:53:56.60 It says, "Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, 00:53:59.87\00:53:59.90 which was made up the seed of David 00:54:03.84\00:54:03.87 according to the flesh, 00:54:05.71\00:54:05.74 and declared to be the Son of God with power, 00:54:07.18\00:54:07.21 according to the spirit of holiness, 00:54:11.18\00:54:11.21 by the resurrection from the dead." 00:54:13.25\00:54:13.28 So when Christ resurrects from the dead, 00:54:16.58\00:54:16.62 He becomes a... 00:54:19.89\00:54:19.92 Here it's not that He is becoming 00:54:21.66\00:54:21.69 His son at that time, 00:54:23.99\00:54:24.03 but it's a manifestation of a prior Sonship, 00:54:25.13\00:54:25.16 he was already the Son before He rose from the dead. 00:54:28.36\00:54:28.40 And so I tell you, in Mark Chapter 1, 00:54:33.03\00:54:33.07 a declaration is made by the centurion, 00:54:36.40\00:54:36.44 notice, Mark 15:39. 00:54:39.37\00:54:39.41 "And when the centurion, which stood over against him, 00:54:42.88\00:54:42.91 saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, 00:54:45.38\00:54:45.41 he said, 'Truly this man was the Son of God.'" 00:54:48.15\00:54:48.18 Praise the Lord. 00:54:52.39\00:54:52.42 You see, Christ has existed forever. 00:54:53.46\00:54:53.49 He as the Son of God came to die for us. 00:54:56.06\00:54:56.09 And so quickly let me read Philippians 2:5-8. 00:54:59.79\00:54:59.83 "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, 00:55:04.13\00:55:04.17 who, being in the form of God, 00:55:07.40\00:55:07.44 thought it not robbery to be equal with God, 00:55:09.34\00:55:09.37 but made Himself of no reputation, 00:55:11.84\00:55:11.87 and took upon Him the form of a servant, 00:55:14.58\00:55:14.61 and was made in the likeness of men. 00:55:16.71\00:55:16.75 And being found in fashion as a man, 00:55:19.48\00:55:19.51 He humbled Himself 00:55:21.82\00:55:21.85 and became obedient unto death, 00:55:23.18\00:55:23.22 even the death of the cross." 00:55:25.29\00:55:25.32 Christ has been victorious, 00:55:27.92\00:55:27.96 died for us being high and King, 00:55:29.96\00:55:29.99 He left the adoration of angels and became a babe, 00:55:33.66\00:55:33.70 and He is our King. 00:55:36.63\00:55:36.67 Amen. Thank you so much. 00:55:39.27\00:55:39.30 Wonderful. 00:55:41.40\00:55:41.44 I don't think there's any doubt about that any longer. 00:55:42.74\00:55:42.77 But I wanna give each one of our panelists 00:55:45.07\00:55:45.11 an opportunity to summarize the day they cover. 00:55:46.57\00:55:46.61 James? 00:55:48.94\00:55:48.98 All right, well, the day we covered was Monday, 00:55:50.01\00:55:50.05 God Has Spoken to Us by His Son. 00:55:51.95\00:55:51.98 Hebrews 13:8 said that Jesus Christ says that, 00:55:54.42\00:55:54.45 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, 00:55:57.39\00:55:57.42 today, and forever." 00:55:58.85\00:55:58.89 So God is a communicator 00:56:00.69\00:56:00.72 and sin didn't stop God from communicating with us. 00:56:02.59\00:56:02.62 God communicates with us, He has communicated with us, 00:56:05.86\00:56:05.89 and He'll continue to communicate with us. 00:56:08.63\00:56:08.66 And the communication that He has for us 00:56:10.53\00:56:10.57 is the revelation of His love, 00:56:12.23\00:56:12.27 His goodness that leads us to turn our lives around 00:56:13.90\00:56:13.94 and give our hearts to Him. 00:56:17.04\00:56:17.07 Amen. Jill? 00:56:18.44\00:56:18.47 On Tuesday, we looked at Jesus 00:56:19.91\00:56:19.94 being the brightness of His glory 00:56:21.71\00:56:21.74 and the express image of His person. 00:56:23.08\00:56:23.11 And I just want to touch on this many times 00:56:24.71\00:56:24.75 we feel like God is harsh. 00:56:27.32\00:56:27.35 The God of the Old Testament is vengeful and vindictive, 00:56:28.68\00:56:28.72 but the truth is, Jesus came to reveal the Father. 00:56:32.05\00:56:32.09 And that means that God is love, 00:56:35.56\00:56:35.59 and God wants to save you. 00:56:38.06\00:56:38.09 Amen. Amen. 00:56:39.93\00:56:39.96 The first chapter of Revelation 1:11 00:56:41.46\00:56:41.50 as well as the very last chapter, 00:56:44.83\00:56:44.87 Revelation 22:13 says, "I am the Alpha, the Omega, 00:56:46.20\00:56:46.23 the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last." 00:56:49.87\00:56:49.90 Both obviously, both referring to Jesus Christ. 00:56:52.64\00:56:52.67 He is the beginning, He is the end. 00:56:55.74\00:56:55.78 He is the Alpha, He is the Omega. 00:56:57.61\00:56:57.65 Make Him Lord of your life today. 00:56:59.81\00:56:59.85 Amen. Amen. 00:57:01.98\00:57:02.02 We have in the Book of Genesis 00:57:03.18\00:57:03.22 that Adam and Eve were given dominion, 00:57:04.69\00:57:04.72 and they lost it when they sinned, 00:57:06.39\00:57:06.42 and Satan seem to take it from them, 00:57:07.96\00:57:07.99 but Christ by dying on the cross for us 00:57:10.76\00:57:10.79 a perfect sacrifice. 00:57:13.16\00:57:13.19 He has taken that dominion back, 00:57:14.56\00:57:14.56 and He will establish a kingdom that will last forever. 00:57:16.60\00:57:16.63 And I hope you are part of it. 00:57:19.23\00:57:19.27 Amen. 00:57:20.40\00:57:20.44 Thank you so much each one of you 00:57:21.47\00:57:21.50 for talking about The Promised Son. 00:57:22.60\00:57:22.64 And, you know, there's a statement 00:57:25.17\00:57:25.21 I heard growing up, 00:57:26.84\00:57:26.88 it's called promises, promises. 00:57:27.91\00:57:27.94 God made a promise, 00:57:29.78\00:57:29.81 and Jesus is the fulfillment of that divine promise. 00:57:30.91\00:57:30.95 So we can have today the blessed assurance 00:57:34.25\00:57:34.28 that the Christ who came to earth 00:57:36.82\00:57:36.85 to redeem us will come again to deliver us. 00:57:38.99\00:57:39.02 Thank you so much that Jesus is in fact, 00:57:42.76\00:57:42.79 the promise of God. 00:57:45.29\00:57:45.33 Lesson number four we're going to be covering next week, 00:57:48.10\00:57:48.13 we'd like to invite you to come back 00:57:50.03\00:57:50.07 and join us on that. 00:57:51.30\00:57:51.33 It's Jesus, our Faithful Brother. 00:57:52.63\00:57:52.67 When He walked the earth, 00:57:54.94\00:57:54.97 He also became somebody closer 00:57:56.10\00:57:56.14 than our closest friend. 00:57:57.87\00:57:57.91 Join us next week 00:57:59.37\00:57:59.41 for that exciting lesson study on Hebrews. 00:58:00.64\00:58:00.68
