Right. 00:02:26.41\00:02:27.78 Father in heaven, Lord, we're so grateful 00:02:27.81\00:02:30.18 that we can open Your Word. 00:02:30.21\00:02:31.88 We just ask for Your Holy Spirit to be with us 00:02:31.91\00:02:34.22 and, Lord, to lead us and to guide us. 00:02:34.25\00:02:37.35 And thank You, Father, that You are the captain of the ship 00:02:37.39\00:02:40.32 and, Father, that we can follow You 00:02:40.36\00:02:42.06 and in Jesus' name we pray. 00:02:42.09\00:02:43.66 Amen. Amen. 00:02:43.69\00:02:46.09 This week's memory text is Genesis 2:3. 00:02:46.13\00:02:51.43 Genesis 2:3. 00:02:51.47\00:02:55.14 And the Word of God speaks to us in this way. 00:02:55.17\00:02:58.64 "Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified 00:02:58.67\00:03:04.18 it because in it, He rested from all His work, 00:03:04.21\00:03:07.72 which God had created and made." 00:03:07.75\00:03:11.09 It's amazing. 00:03:11.12\00:03:12.45 When you look at the rhythm in creation, 00:03:12.49\00:03:15.12 you know, you think about God's evaluation 00:03:15.16\00:03:17.49 of everything that He had done. 00:03:17.53\00:03:19.26 And you read in Genesis Chapter 1 from verse 1 to 31, 00:03:19.29\00:03:22.90 it begins by saying, in the beginning God, 00:03:22.93\00:03:25.63 and the evaluation that we find from the Word of God 00:03:25.67\00:03:29.80 about all that He had done, it says in Genesis 1:31, 00:03:29.84\00:03:34.64 "Then God saw everything that He had made. 00:03:34.68\00:03:38.01 And indeed it was?" 00:03:38.05\00:03:39.75 Very good. 00:03:39.78\00:03:41.12 "Very good. 00:03:41.15\00:03:42.48 And so the evening and the morning 00:03:42.52\00:03:46.25 were the sixth day." 00:03:46.29\00:03:48.52 I want to begin by dispelling a rumor or a fallacy 00:03:48.56\00:03:52.39 or a myth about how long creation week was. 00:03:52.43\00:03:55.56 The Bible didn't say it was just, 00:03:55.60\00:03:58.07 it was the end of the sixth day, 00:03:58.10\00:03:59.43 was the end of the fifth day, the fourth and third. 00:03:59.47\00:04:01.57 It says the evening and the morning, 00:04:01.60\00:04:04.11 two words in the Hebrew that clearly delineate 00:04:04.14\00:04:06.78 the daytime from the nighttime. 00:04:06.81\00:04:09.34 We have terminologies in our language today 00:04:09.38\00:04:11.58 that also shows us the cycles of the day. 00:04:11.61\00:04:14.82 And when we talk about the rhythms, 00:04:14.85\00:04:16.52 everything that God created, there's a rhythm built into it. 00:04:16.55\00:04:20.39 Now think about that. 00:04:20.42\00:04:21.76 When your heart is not beating right is called arrhythmia. 00:04:21.79\00:04:24.03 Why? 00:04:24.06\00:04:25.39 Because it's out of rhythm. 00:04:25.43\00:04:26.80 When you think about the mind, 00:04:26.83\00:04:28.50 the body and just to be not insensitive, 00:04:28.53\00:04:32.43 but people that have, or experience seizures 00:04:32.47\00:04:35.47 is because the rhythm in the body was broken 00:04:35.50\00:04:38.37 and the body is starving trying to fight 00:04:38.41\00:04:40.51 its way back into the rhythm. 00:04:40.54\00:04:42.11 Why? Because God created rhythm in everything. 00:04:42.14\00:04:44.95 So I've said that to say this, if you have an issue 00:04:44.98\00:04:49.05 with rhythm, all of God's creation is in rhythm. 00:04:49.08\00:04:51.85 And I understand you might be talking about an instrument, 00:04:51.89\00:04:54.52 but it's important that we stay in the cadences 00:04:54.56\00:04:58.09 and the rhythm of God's creation. 00:04:58.13\00:05:00.10 The days, the months, the weeks and the years, 00:05:00.13\00:05:03.23 the seconds, the minutes, the hours, the months, 00:05:03.26\00:05:06.60 and the cycles of the seasons, 00:05:06.63\00:05:08.64 the birds appreciate the rhythms of God's creation. 00:05:08.67\00:05:11.74 They know when to leave. 00:05:11.77\00:05:13.31 They know when to arrive. 00:05:13.34\00:05:14.81 My wife and I are privileged. 00:05:14.84\00:05:16.24 Every spring, the Canadian geese show up. 00:05:16.28\00:05:18.88 They have their children, 00:05:18.91\00:05:20.25 they have a picnic all spring and all summer on our lawn. 00:05:20.28\00:05:22.98 And then they leave and we don't see them until next year 00:05:23.02\00:05:25.59 when they decide to continue the rhythm. 00:05:25.62\00:05:28.42 The squirrels know when to go to bed and when to wake up. 00:05:28.46\00:05:31.59 We see the raccoons at night, that's their rhythm. 00:05:31.63\00:05:33.56 The squirrels during the day, that's their rhythms. 00:05:33.60\00:05:35.93 The birds eat as much food 00:05:35.96\00:05:37.37 as they can till the sun completely disappears. 00:05:37.40\00:05:39.87 That's the end of their rhythm. 00:05:39.90\00:05:41.24 And they come back the next morning. 00:05:41.27\00:05:42.77 That's God's creation, but God did something 00:05:42.80\00:05:45.54 at the end of all those rhythms cycles 00:05:45.57\00:05:48.41 that He wants us to understand 00:05:48.44\00:05:49.84 is not a part of the physical creation, 00:05:49.88\00:05:52.38 but is a part of the spiritual creation. 00:05:52.41\00:05:55.88 Let's look at Genesis Chapter 2, 00:05:55.92\00:05:58.05 I wanna show you some of these wonderful things. 00:05:58.09\00:06:00.12 After the six days of creation, 00:06:00.16\00:06:02.39 God created something multidimensional 00:06:02.42\00:06:06.66 that had no physical measurements. 00:06:06.70\00:06:09.53 Multidimensional, no physical measurements. 00:06:09.56\00:06:12.23 What did God create? 00:06:12.27\00:06:14.04 Genesis Chapter 2, let's look at verses 1-3. 00:06:14.07\00:06:18.41 And I could, I would hate to say 00:06:18.44\00:06:19.77 that because of we're speaking of the rhythmic, 00:06:19.81\00:06:22.04 rhythmic cycles, we may cover 00:06:22.08\00:06:23.95 some of the same scriptures throughout our lesson, 00:06:23.98\00:06:25.71 which has been a cadence 00:06:25.75\00:06:27.15 that we've experienced throughout this quarterly, 00:06:27.18\00:06:29.58 but Genesis 2:1-3, and the Bible says, 00:06:29.62\00:06:32.62 "Thus, the heavens and the earth 00:06:32.65\00:06:36.39 and all the hosts of them were finished. 00:06:36.42\00:06:39.09 And on the seventh day, God ended His work, 00:06:39.13\00:06:42.66 which He had done." 00:06:42.70\00:06:44.03 And he did what? Rested. 00:06:44.07\00:06:45.77 "Rested on the seventh day from all His work, 00:06:45.80\00:06:49.24 which He had done. 00:06:49.27\00:06:50.71 Then God." 00:06:50.74\00:06:52.07 together 00:06:52.11\00:06:53.44 "blessed the seventh day, 00:06:53.48\00:06:54.81 and sanctified it because in it, 00:06:54.84\00:06:56.95 He rested from all his work, 00:06:56.98\00:06:59.71 which God had created and made." 00:06:59.75\00:07:01.92 Now we know that God was not tired, 00:07:01.95\00:07:04.85 so, but God did something. 00:07:04.89\00:07:06.62 He added another rhythm. 00:07:06.65\00:07:09.12 He added another rhythm, a weekly rhythm. 00:07:09.16\00:07:11.53 And do you know that we may be able to trace the new moons, 00:07:11.56\00:07:17.17 the quarterly moons or three quarters 00:07:17.20\00:07:18.87 of the full moon in the rhythmic heavens 00:07:18.90\00:07:21.14 because they manifest themselves visibly. 00:07:21.17\00:07:23.71 We can see the seasons coming and going. 00:07:23.74\00:07:25.81 We can trace the rising and the setting of the sun, 00:07:25.84\00:07:27.78 the 24 hour period, the seasons, the cold, 00:07:27.81\00:07:30.98 the warm, the hot, the cool again, 00:07:31.01\00:07:34.55 but there's no place that we can find a seven day week 00:07:34.58\00:07:38.25 other than in the Word of God. 00:07:38.29\00:07:41.69 Now, think about that for a moment. 00:07:41.72\00:07:43.29 Only the Bible talks about the seven day cycle, 00:07:43.32\00:07:46.80 but everyone knows about it. 00:07:46.83\00:07:48.23 Everyone knows that regardless 00:07:48.26\00:07:49.76 of what the names of the days are, 00:07:49.80\00:07:51.60 everyone knows that there's a cycle. 00:07:51.63\00:07:53.87 If somebody says, well, has time changed? 00:07:53.90\00:07:56.47 I can guarantee you with this little test, 00:07:56.50\00:07:58.27 they'll figure out what day is which. 00:07:58.31\00:08:00.14 If I said, I'll have a $10,000 check for you 00:08:00.18\00:08:02.28 on the third day of the week, 00:08:02.31\00:08:03.95 there'll be no problem about finding out what day that is. 00:08:03.98\00:08:06.15 I guarantee you. 00:08:06.18\00:08:07.98 But when God builds His rhythm, that multidimensional rhythm 00:08:08.02\00:08:12.95 He built in that has no physical dimensions 00:08:12.99\00:08:15.29 was one that God set aside for He 00:08:15.32\00:08:19.66 and I to enjoy together. 00:08:19.69\00:08:22.50 And then He added something. 00:08:22.53\00:08:23.87 Let's go to Exodus Chapter 20. 00:08:23.90\00:08:25.90 Look why God... This answers the question, 00:08:25.93\00:08:29.47 why God created that rhythm and for whom? 00:08:29.50\00:08:32.77 Exodus Chapter 20. 00:08:32.81\00:08:34.14 And I'm going to read verse 11, verse 11, all right? 00:08:34.18\00:08:38.38 "For in six days, the Lord made the heavens and the earth, 00:08:38.41\00:08:43.25 the sea, and all that is in them," 00:08:43.28\00:08:45.02 sounds just like Genesis 2:1-3. 00:08:45.05\00:08:46.89 It does. 00:08:46.92\00:08:48.26 "And rested on the seventh day. 00:08:48.29\00:08:51.26 Therefore the Lord did," what? 00:08:51.29\00:08:54.06 "Blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. 00:08:54.10\00:08:57.87 God made it." 00:08:57.90\00:08:59.53 Why and for whom did He make it? 00:08:59.57\00:09:01.47 Now let's look and see verses 8 to 10 in Exodus Chapter 20, 00:09:01.50\00:09:06.07 he starts with the word remember. 00:09:06.11\00:09:08.24 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:09:08.28\00:09:12.08 Now, wait a minute. 00:09:12.11\00:09:13.45 Think about that for a moment. 00:09:13.48\00:09:14.82 What is another word for holy? 00:09:14.85\00:09:16.38 Sanctified, blessed. 00:09:16.42\00:09:19.25 God blessed one day of the week, the seventh one, 00:09:19.29\00:09:22.92 He blessed it. 00:09:22.96\00:09:24.29 He sanctified and to establish a rhythm in His creation 00:09:24.33\00:09:28.93 He rested. 00:09:28.96\00:09:30.30 He rested not because of exhaustion, 00:09:30.33\00:09:32.33 not because He needed a breather, 00:09:32.37\00:09:34.37 but He established another rhythm. 00:09:34.40\00:09:36.50 Now, let's consider that for a moment. 00:09:36.54\00:09:38.17 As we look at Exodus 20:8-10, he says, 00:09:38.21\00:09:42.31 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:09:42.34\00:09:44.71 Six days, you shall labor and do all your work." 00:09:44.75\00:09:47.72 Why? That's what He did. 00:09:47.75\00:09:49.25 That was His rhythm. 00:09:49.28\00:09:51.05 "But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord 00:09:51.09\00:09:54.92 Your God." 00:09:54.96\00:09:56.29 I'm not going to read the rest of it because we know that. 00:09:56.32\00:09:58.26 But notice what He says? 00:09:58.29\00:09:59.93 If God is your God, he says, you know what? 00:09:59.96\00:10:02.20 You don't have to try to pick a day. 00:10:02.23\00:10:03.57 I've already picked the day. 00:10:03.60\00:10:04.97 Now the question is not what day is the Sabbath? 00:10:05.00\00:10:07.90 The question is who is your God? 00:10:07.94\00:10:10.91 The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord, 00:10:10.94\00:10:12.84 your God. 00:10:12.87\00:10:14.21 So, if you have the God of creation as your God, 00:10:14.24\00:10:16.95 then He has already said, 00:10:16.98\00:10:18.31 this is the rhythm I want you to fall in. 00:10:18.35\00:10:21.05 So, if the Lord was at the head of the line 00:10:21.08\00:10:23.05 and we were marching behind Him, 00:10:23.08\00:10:25.05 ask yourself the question as a Christian, 00:10:25.09\00:10:27.46 would you be out of step with God? 00:10:27.49\00:10:30.53 Would you be out of step with Jesus? 00:10:30.56\00:10:32.86 Because He made it clear that the Sabbath, 00:10:32.89\00:10:35.43 the seventh day was blessed 00:10:35.46\00:10:36.80 before there was any other nation, just Adam and Eve. 00:10:36.83\00:10:40.64 And then in the New Testament, 00:10:40.67\00:10:42.34 He reiterates the significance 00:10:42.37\00:10:44.47 of why He did what He did on the seventh day. 00:10:44.51\00:10:47.24 Let's look at Mark 2:27-28. 00:10:47.28\00:10:52.21 Notice what the Bible tells us about this rhythm. 00:10:52.25\00:10:54.82 God makes it clear as who this rhythm is for. 00:10:54.85\00:10:59.65 "And He said to them, 'The Sabbath was made for man 00:10:59.69\00:11:03.36 and not man for the Sabbath.'" 00:11:03.39\00:11:05.26 Before we go to verse 28, who did God create this rhythm for? 00:11:05.29\00:11:09.43 Man. 00:11:09.46\00:11:10.80 Now watch this, the day doesn't benefit from us, 00:11:10.83\00:11:13.37 we benefit from the day. 00:11:13.40\00:11:15.04 God said, when this day comes around, 00:11:15.07\00:11:17.44 whatever you did the last six, cease it on this day. 00:11:17.47\00:11:21.14 Not only you, you nor your son, nor your daughter, 00:11:21.18\00:11:24.25 nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, 00:11:24.28\00:11:26.28 nor your cattle, nor the stranger 00:11:26.31\00:11:28.15 that is within your gates. 00:11:28.18\00:11:30.32 And it goes right back, for in six days. 00:11:30.35\00:11:33.32 So the Lord says, this day I've set aside for you, 00:11:33.36\00:11:37.03 dive into the rhythm and we can spend this time together, 00:11:37.06\00:11:40.20 not a holy hour, not a holy moment, 00:11:40.23\00:11:43.33 but a holy day from evening to evening. 00:11:43.37\00:11:47.40 And think about that for a moment. 00:11:47.44\00:11:49.10 You know, when 12 o'clock, there was a time 00:11:49.14\00:11:51.41 that people thought the day started at 12 o'clock at night, 00:11:51.44\00:11:54.88 but it's called midnight, 00:11:54.91\00:11:56.58 which means it's the middle of the night, 00:11:56.61\00:11:58.81 just as 12 o'clock in the daytime 00:11:58.85\00:12:01.22 doesn't start the day it's midday. 00:12:01.25\00:12:03.92 And the days in the Bible has eight watches. 00:12:03.95\00:12:07.19 The first watch of the night is from 6 PM to 9 PM. 00:12:07.22\00:12:10.83 The second watch 9 PM to midnight, 00:12:10.86\00:12:13.33 the third watch midnight to 3 AM. 00:12:13.36\00:12:15.50 And the fourth watch 3 AM to 6 AM. 00:12:15.53\00:12:18.53 And when you begin to apply the scriptural watches, 00:12:18.57\00:12:21.00 you begin to understand clearly 00:12:21.04\00:12:22.70 how events took place in the Bible. 00:12:22.74\00:12:24.51 For example, when the apostles were speaking in tongues 00:12:24.54\00:12:28.31 on the day of Pentecost, somebody said 00:12:28.34\00:12:31.05 it's only the third hour of the day. 00:12:31.08\00:12:33.52 That was the ending of the first watch. 00:12:33.55\00:12:35.78 In other words, it's too early in the morning 00:12:35.82\00:12:37.32 for anybody to be that intoxicated. 00:12:37.35\00:12:39.55 And so the watches of the days, and you find that principle 00:12:39.59\00:12:42.62 all throughout Scripture. 00:12:42.66\00:12:44.16 But here's my point, God established a rhythm. 00:12:44.19\00:12:47.16 So, my challenge to you as a Christian 00:12:47.20\00:12:48.83 is don't try to follow the rhythm that man establishes 00:12:48.86\00:12:52.53 because man says, this is the rhythm 00:12:52.57\00:12:54.34 most suitable for us. 00:12:54.37\00:12:56.07 But if he answered the question, who is your God, 00:12:56.10\00:12:58.41 then it's imperative that you fall into the rhythm 00:12:58.44\00:13:00.84 of the creator of heaven and earth. 00:13:00.88\00:13:04.41 Now here's the reason why, 00:13:04.45\00:13:06.01 because this rhythm was established in creation. 00:13:06.05\00:13:09.25 Follow this, kept by the people of God before Israel, 00:13:09.28\00:13:14.49 because Abraham, Genesis 26:5, Abraham kept my commandments, 00:13:14.52\00:13:20.13 my statutes and my laws. 00:13:20.16\00:13:22.10 The rhythm was established. 00:13:22.13\00:13:23.50 Then the nation of Israel came into existence. 00:13:23.53\00:13:25.83 And as the people, they honored the Sabbath 00:13:25.87\00:13:27.60 all throughout their dwelling, 00:13:27.64\00:13:29.50 then Jesus shows up in the New Testament. 00:13:29.54\00:13:31.67 He honors the Sabbath. 00:13:31.71\00:13:33.04 Luke 4:16. 00:13:33.07\00:13:34.68 He is nailed to the cross, but the Sabbath continues. 00:13:34.71\00:13:36.78 Matthew 24:20. 00:13:36.81\00:13:38.31 Pray that your flight be not in the winter, 00:13:38.35\00:13:40.32 neither on the Sabbath day. 00:13:40.35\00:13:42.08 When Jerusalem was destroyed, he said, 00:13:42.12\00:13:44.49 make sure that it doesn't happen on the Sabbath. 00:13:44.52\00:13:46.65 The apostles kept the Sabbath. 00:13:46.69\00:13:48.72 In the Book of Acts it's mentioned time and time again. 00:13:48.76\00:13:51.09 So, watch this creation, Old Testament, 00:13:51.13\00:13:54.33 New Testament, Jesus, the apostles. 00:13:54.36\00:13:57.30 And then Isaiah 66:22-23 says, 00:13:57.33\00:14:01.37 "It will be kept throughout eternity 00:14:01.40\00:14:03.81 in the new earth and in heaven." 00:14:03.84\00:14:06.01 So here's my challenge to you. 00:14:06.04\00:14:07.94 I challenge you if you haven't done it yet 00:14:07.98\00:14:10.45 to fall into the rhythm of worship, 00:14:10.48\00:14:13.52 as you worship the Creator of heaven and earth, 00:14:13.55\00:14:16.48 who is also the Lord, your God. 00:14:16.52\00:14:19.32 Amen. 00:14:19.35\00:14:20.69 Amen. 00:14:20.72\00:14:22.06 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:14:22.09\00:14:23.43 So as we go into Monday's lesson, 00:14:23.46\00:14:26.49 the title is The Command to Rest. 00:14:26.53\00:14:30.50 The Command to Rest. 00:14:30.53\00:14:32.00 And it is known by all that we all need to rest. 00:14:32.03\00:14:37.31 And this day takes us into, 00:14:37.34\00:14:40.91 uh, looking at Genesis Chapter 1, 00:14:40.94\00:14:43.01 creation was ended. 00:14:43.04\00:14:44.65 We read already in Genesis 1:31. 00:14:44.68\00:14:47.35 "Then God saw everything that He had made, 00:14:47.38\00:14:49.58 and indeed it was very good. 00:14:49.62\00:14:51.69 So the evening and the morning were the sixth day." 00:14:51.72\00:14:55.16 But creation in itself, 00:14:55.19\00:14:57.36 God created the heavens and earth in six days, 00:14:57.39\00:14:59.29 but He rested on the seventh day. 00:14:59.33\00:15:03.30 So why do we have a seven day weekly cycle? 00:15:03.33\00:15:09.17 It goes back to creation. 00:15:09.20\00:15:11.61 You see, when you calculate the month, 00:15:11.64\00:15:14.48 normally you consider the moon going around the earth. 00:15:14.51\00:15:19.51 When you calculate the year, 00:15:19.55\00:15:21.38 we consider the earth going around the sun, 00:15:21.42\00:15:24.19 but there's really no astronomical body 00:15:24.22\00:15:26.39 or anything in the sky that you can observe 00:15:26.42\00:15:28.92 to indicate a seven day week. 00:15:28.96\00:15:32.69 Where does it come from? 00:15:32.73\00:15:34.06 It exists in every nation under heaven. 00:15:34.10\00:15:37.07 It has been preserved by God's mighty hand 00:15:37.10\00:15:41.54 to stand as a commemoration of creation. 00:15:41.57\00:15:45.51 Although not acknowledged by most people in the world. 00:15:45.54\00:15:49.88 The seventh day Sabbath remains 00:15:49.91\00:15:52.88 a commemoration of the creation. 00:15:52.91\00:15:57.29 And this is why I would like to point to the fact 00:15:57.32\00:16:00.36 that, you know, some people say, well, 00:16:00.39\00:16:02.06 the Sabbath was given to the Jews. 00:16:02.09\00:16:04.69 Hold on a few moments, 00:16:04.73\00:16:06.26 and you will see that this is a great error. 00:16:06.29\00:16:08.36 Pastor Lomacang already pointed out that Abraham kept 00:16:08.40\00:16:12.70 God's commandments. 00:16:12.73\00:16:14.07 It was known before Exodus 20. 00:16:14.10\00:16:16.94 You can also read Exodus Chapter 16. 00:16:16.97\00:16:19.44 Already there's talk about the Sabbath. 00:16:19.47\00:16:21.38 God was trying to bring God His children 00:16:21.41\00:16:24.95 back to an understanding of all of His commandments. 00:16:24.98\00:16:28.52 Because going into slavery into Egypt, 00:16:28.55\00:16:31.29 they have forgotten. 00:16:31.32\00:16:32.89 They had began to worship idols, 00:16:32.92\00:16:36.46 and God sent Moses to bring them back 00:16:36.49\00:16:39.89 to His original plan. 00:16:39.93\00:16:42.26 And notice what the Bible says 00:16:42.30\00:16:45.00 in Genesis 2:3 00:16:45.03\00:16:48.47 again, we're going to look at this again. 00:16:48.50\00:16:50.27 "Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it 00:16:50.31\00:16:56.21 because in it, He rested from all His work, 00:16:56.24\00:16:59.61 which God had created and made." 00:16:59.65\00:17:02.45 Question. 00:17:02.48\00:17:03.82 Is there any other day mentioned in the Bible 00:17:03.85\00:17:08.29 that He blessed and sanctified? 00:17:08.32\00:17:11.26 The answer is no. 00:17:11.29\00:17:12.86 God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it. 00:17:12.89\00:17:18.83 In other words, He expected His children to also rest 00:17:18.87\00:17:24.31 and be blessed on that day. 00:17:24.34\00:17:27.08 Now consider God taking Adam and Eve, 00:17:27.11\00:17:30.71 showing the creation. 00:17:30.75\00:17:33.21 The very first day that Adam and Eve lived 00:17:33.25\00:17:37.65 was the Sabbath day, taking them, 00:17:37.69\00:17:40.06 this is all these things have created for you. 00:17:40.09\00:17:42.32 And it's amazing to consider that God takes time 00:17:42.36\00:17:47.20 from His busy schedule to spend with us 00:17:47.23\00:17:50.43 on the seventh day Sabbath. 00:17:50.47\00:17:52.53 You can worship God every single day, 00:17:52.57\00:17:55.27 but God has an express command 00:17:55.30\00:17:58.77 that we are to stop everything that we're doing 00:17:58.81\00:18:02.11 to remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:18:02.14\00:18:06.48 Question, are we asked to remember 00:18:06.51\00:18:08.72 the first day to keep it holy? 00:18:08.75\00:18:10.89 The Bible does not say that. 00:18:10.92\00:18:12.25 Does the Bible say, remember the second day to keep it holy? 00:18:12.29\00:18:15.46 The Bible does not say that. 00:18:15.49\00:18:16.83 And you can go on and on until you get to the sixth day 00:18:16.86\00:18:19.79 and you still have to say did God say 00:18:19.83\00:18:22.73 to keep the sixth day holy? 00:18:22.76\00:18:24.17 No, but He said, remember the seventh day 00:18:24.20\00:18:27.10 to keep it holy. 00:18:27.14\00:18:28.47 Let's read that commandment again in Exodus 20:8-11, 00:18:28.50\00:18:32.81 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:18:32.84\00:18:35.24 Six days you shall labor and do all your work." 00:18:35.28\00:18:38.41 Do all your stuff on the six days. 00:18:38.45\00:18:41.88 "But the seventh day is the Sabbath 00:18:41.92\00:18:44.12 of the Lord Your God." 00:18:44.15\00:18:45.49 Notice. 00:18:45.52\00:18:46.86 "In it, you shall do no work. 00:18:46.89\00:18:48.49 You nor your son, nor your daughter, 00:18:48.52\00:18:51.09 nor your male servant, nor your female servant, 00:18:51.13\00:18:53.90 nor your cattle, nor your stranger, 00:18:53.93\00:18:56.16 who is within your gates." 00:18:56.20\00:18:57.53 Why? 00:18:57.57\00:18:58.90 "For in six days, the Lord made the heavens and the earth, 00:18:58.93\00:19:01.67 the sea, and all that is in them 00:19:01.70\00:19:04.01 and the rested the seventh day. 00:19:04.04\00:19:05.37 Therefore the Lord blessed 00:19:05.41\00:19:07.38 the Sabbath day and hallowed it." 00:19:07.41\00:19:09.28 Now, please understand 00:19:09.31\00:19:11.41 that everybody was supposed to rest. 00:19:11.45\00:19:14.32 Even the animals, 00:19:14.35\00:19:15.85 even the servants were supposed to rest. 00:19:15.88\00:19:17.92 Why? Because it is the Sabbath of the Lord. 00:19:17.95\00:19:20.99 They too need to rest to receive 00:19:21.02\00:19:23.66 the blessing of the Lord. 00:19:23.69\00:19:25.63 Talking about rhythm, yes. 00:19:25.66\00:19:28.26 When you look into circadian rhythms, 00:19:28.30\00:19:31.60 we have a 24 hour like biological clock 00:19:31.63\00:19:35.40 and there is recent studies that have been going on. 00:19:35.44\00:19:38.61 Scientists are interested in chronobiology. 00:19:38.64\00:19:41.41 They have discovered that there's also a seventh day 00:19:41.44\00:19:44.68 circaseptan cycle, 00:19:44.71\00:19:46.85 a rhythm cycle for human beings. 00:19:46.88\00:19:49.15 That's right. 00:19:49.18\00:19:50.52 It affects different aspects of your health, 00:19:50.55\00:19:53.09 including your heart. 00:19:53.12\00:19:54.79 And I have here a... 00:19:54.82\00:19:57.26 some things that I'm not able to share with you 00:19:57.29\00:20:00.26 because of time, 00:20:00.30\00:20:01.63 but I encourage you to consider it affects your blood pressure, 00:20:01.66\00:20:06.13 your body temperature, your hormone levels 00:20:06.17\00:20:08.54 and your content in your blood, red blood cells. 00:20:08.57\00:20:11.01 All of these things are in a rhythm that needs, 00:20:11.04\00:20:15.51 that has these peaks 00:20:15.54\00:20:16.88 and rest needed by the human being 00:20:16.91\00:20:20.45 every seven days. 00:20:20.48\00:20:22.28 The French people way back decided that, 00:20:22.32\00:20:26.12 hey, who said we have to rest two days a week. 00:20:26.15\00:20:30.26 Let's do a 10 week, 10 day week. 00:20:30.29\00:20:33.23 You can look at it in the history 00:20:33.26\00:20:34.83 that when they decided to abandon the Bible 00:20:34.86\00:20:37.23 and declared that there is no God. 00:20:37.27\00:20:39.27 And they named the goddess of reason was their God. 00:20:39.30\00:20:44.11 So they adopted a 10 day week work cycle. 00:20:44.14\00:20:48.18 Wow. 00:20:48.21\00:20:49.54 They lasted a few months. 00:20:49.58\00:20:50.91 People were getting sick. 00:20:50.95\00:20:52.31 People were getting headache. 00:20:52.35\00:20:53.68 People couldn't, they could not survive. 00:20:53.72\00:20:56.89 So they had to resort back to a seven day weekly cycle 00:20:56.92\00:21:01.49 and giving people the rest they needed. 00:21:01.52\00:21:03.93 God has put it in us. 00:21:03.96\00:21:05.66 Now, please consider this, 00:21:05.69\00:21:07.46 had not sin entered into the world. 00:21:07.50\00:21:11.20 Adam taught his children to remember God's Sabbath day. 00:21:11.23\00:21:15.90 Their children was supposed to remind their children, 00:21:15.94\00:21:18.74 remember the seventh day to keep it holy. 00:21:18.77\00:21:20.84 Tomorrow is the Sabbath day, will tell the truth. 00:21:20.88\00:21:23.21 Remember, the Sabbath is coming. 00:21:23.24\00:21:25.05 We are to keep it holy. 00:21:25.08\00:21:26.41 Get everything you're supposed to get done by the sixth day, 00:21:26.45\00:21:29.45 because the seventh day is God's holy day. 00:21:29.48\00:21:32.82 And this is what God tried 00:21:32.85\00:21:34.76 to bring the people of Israel too, 00:21:34.79\00:21:37.19 remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:21:37.23\00:21:39.26 Question, what was the Lord interested only 00:21:39.29\00:21:43.50 in blessing the Jewish people? 00:21:43.53\00:21:45.37 Because some people say 00:21:45.40\00:21:47.00 the Sabbath is only for the Jews. 00:21:47.04\00:21:49.00 Did the Lord intend to only bless the Jews. 00:21:49.04\00:21:51.47 No, the Sabbath was made before any Jews existed. 00:21:51.51\00:21:56.54 It was given to Adam before any Jews existed. 00:21:56.58\00:22:00.05 It is for all humanity. That's right. 00:22:00.08\00:22:03.72 And had, I'm sorry, 00:22:03.75\00:22:05.52 Jewish people that are listening, 00:22:05.55\00:22:06.89 had the Jewish people done the work 00:22:06.92\00:22:08.56 that God called them to do 00:22:08.59\00:22:10.39 to bring God's message and His laws 00:22:10.43\00:22:12.83 to the whole world, 00:22:12.86\00:22:14.26 the whole world 00:22:14.30\00:22:15.70 would have known that God is our creator. 00:22:15.73\00:22:17.73 The whole world 00:22:17.77\00:22:19.10 would have been keeping the Sabbath day. 00:22:19.13\00:22:22.24 And because of time, 00:22:22.27\00:22:23.61 I don't have time to read to you. 00:22:23.64\00:22:25.67 One passage in Isaiah 56:1-7, 00:22:25.71\00:22:29.21 let's see if we can get through it. 00:22:29.24\00:22:30.91 "Thus says the Lord, 00:22:30.95\00:22:32.28 keep justice and do righteousness, 00:22:32.31\00:22:34.48 for my salvation is about to come 00:22:34.52\00:22:36.79 and my righteousness to be revealed. 00:22:36.82\00:22:38.92 Blessed is the man who does this 00:22:38.95\00:22:41.19 and the son of man who lays hold on it, 00:22:41.22\00:22:43.53 who keeps from defiling the Sabbath 00:22:43.56\00:22:46.46 and keep his hand from doing an evil. 00:22:46.49\00:22:48.53 Do not let the son of the foreigner 00:22:48.56\00:22:51.13 who has joined himself to the Lord speak saying 00:22:51.17\00:22:53.87 the Lord has utterly separated me from his people. 00:22:53.90\00:22:57.47 Nor let the eunuch say, here I am, a dry tree for thus, 00:22:57.51\00:23:01.64 thus saith the Lord, 00:23:01.68\00:23:03.04 to the eunuch who keep my Sabbath 00:23:03.08\00:23:05.18 and choose what pleases me 00:23:05.21\00:23:07.45 and hold fast my covenant, even to them, 00:23:07.48\00:23:10.09 I will give in my house 00:23:10.12\00:23:12.15 and within my walls, a place and the name 00:23:12.19\00:23:15.42 better than that of sons and daughters, 00:23:15.46\00:23:17.36 I will give them an everlasting name 00:23:17.39\00:23:19.76 that shall not be cut off. 00:23:19.79\00:23:21.20 Also, the sons of the foreigner 00:23:21.23\00:23:23.26 who joined themselves to the Lord to serve him 00:23:23.30\00:23:25.77 and to love the name of the Lord, 00:23:25.80\00:23:27.60 to be his servants. 00:23:27.64\00:23:28.97 Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath 00:23:29.00\00:23:31.87 and hold fast my covenant. 00:23:31.91\00:23:34.01 Even them, I will bring to my holy mountain 00:23:34.04\00:23:36.58 and make them joyful in my house of prayer. 00:23:36.61\00:23:39.28 Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices 00:23:39.31\00:23:41.38 will be accepted on my altar, 00:23:41.42\00:23:43.62 for my house 00:23:43.65\00:23:45.15 shall be called a house of prayer 00:23:45.19\00:23:46.86 for all nations." 00:23:46.89\00:23:48.56 So, I bring to you 00:23:48.59\00:23:50.13 had the people of Israel done the work 00:23:50.16\00:23:52.76 that God presented to them to do, 00:23:52.79\00:23:55.13 to bring the gospel to the world. 00:23:55.16\00:23:58.17 All the world would have known the Sabbath. 00:23:58.20\00:24:00.94 All the world 00:24:00.97\00:24:02.30 would been keeping the Sabbath, 00:24:02.34\00:24:04.54 because God's house 00:24:04.57\00:24:05.94 is supposed to be a house of prayer 00:24:05.97\00:24:07.91 for all nations. 00:24:07.94\00:24:10.55 So I say to you, it is a serious mistake 00:24:10.58\00:24:13.15 and a grasping, trying to hold on to something 00:24:13.18\00:24:16.35 God has not ordained to say, 00:24:16.38\00:24:17.95 the Sabbath is made for the Jews. 00:24:17.99\00:24:20.62 No, my friend, 00:24:20.66\00:24:21.99 the Sabbath is made for you and for me, 00:24:22.02\00:24:23.89 for the whole world. 00:24:23.93\00:24:25.26 Amen. 00:24:25.29\00:24:26.63 Thank you Pastor Dinzey. 00:26:20.31\00:26:22.71 And God parted the Red Sea. 00:26:22.74\00:26:24.75 And they walked through on dry ground. 00:26:24.78\00:26:27.45 He gave them His law on Mount Sinai. 00:26:27.48\00:26:30.72 They wandered for 40 years in the wilderness 00:26:30.75\00:26:34.56 because they refused to by faith 00:26:34.59\00:26:37.96 accept God's promise that they could, yes, 00:26:37.99\00:26:40.33 they could conquer the land of Canaan. 00:26:40.36\00:26:43.57 And they wandered for those 40 years. 00:26:43.60\00:26:46.33 A new generation grew up. 00:26:46.37\00:26:48.14 They had vague memories of Egypt, 00:26:48.17\00:26:50.54 strong memories though of their parents repeated lack of faith 00:26:50.57\00:26:54.58 and their subsequent wandering in the wilderness. 00:26:54.61\00:26:57.95 So I want to look at six gifts 00:26:57.98\00:27:01.08 that God gave to the nation of Israel 00:27:01.12\00:27:03.69 during their years of wandering. 00:27:03.72\00:27:06.12 There's probably more than six, 00:27:06.15\00:27:07.76 but these are just six 00:27:07.79\00:27:09.12 that came to mind as I studied it. 00:27:09.16\00:27:10.76 Gift number one is the gift of God's presence. 00:27:10.79\00:27:14.46 There was a pillar of cloud by day, 00:27:14.50\00:27:17.13 and there was the pillar of fire by night. 00:27:17.17\00:27:20.37 Exodus 33:14. 00:27:20.40\00:27:22.27 And he said, 00:27:22.30\00:27:23.64 "My presence, it will go with you. 00:27:23.67\00:27:25.37 And I, I will give you rest." 00:27:25.41\00:27:29.24 Do you need rest? 00:27:29.28\00:27:30.61 Do you feel like you are, for some reason, 00:27:30.65\00:27:32.81 wandering in your own wilderness experience? 00:27:32.85\00:27:37.09 God says He will give you the gift of His presence. 00:27:37.12\00:27:41.92 Greg and I have always said that we came to 3ABN 00:27:41.96\00:27:45.99 because God moved the pillar of cloud here. 00:27:46.03\00:27:48.26 Meaning we're here because God's presence was here. 00:27:48.30\00:27:51.33 God wanted us here. 00:27:51.37\00:27:53.40 And if for whatever reason, God moves that pillar of cloud 00:27:53.44\00:27:57.14 somewhere else for us, then we need to obey. 00:27:57.17\00:27:59.21 We need to follow. 00:27:59.24\00:28:00.58 We need to stay in the center of God's will. 00:28:00.61\00:28:03.98 We need to stay in the center of His presence. 00:28:04.01\00:28:07.15 So the first gift to the children of Israel 00:28:07.18\00:28:08.85 was God's presence. 00:28:08.88\00:28:10.22 The second gift to the children of Israel 00:28:10.25\00:28:12.19 was God's direction. 00:28:12.22\00:28:14.49 Do you wonder sometimes, where am I supposed to go? 00:28:14.52\00:28:17.49 What decision should I make right here? 00:28:17.53\00:28:21.53 Exodus 40:36, whenever the cloud, 00:28:21.56\00:28:25.17 that was the symbol of God's presence. 00:28:25.20\00:28:26.67 Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, 00:28:26.70\00:28:29.87 the children of Israel would go onward 00:28:29.90\00:28:32.67 in all of their journeys. 00:28:32.71\00:28:34.04 Now that's an easy way to know God's direction. 00:28:34.08\00:28:36.61 The clouds moving forward, 00:28:36.64\00:28:37.98 then that means I need to go forward. 00:28:38.01\00:28:40.15 They knew that was a gift. 00:28:40.18\00:28:41.92 They knew God's direction. 00:28:41.95\00:28:43.35 Gift number three, God's deliverance from sin. 00:28:43.39\00:28:47.82 The plan of salvation was revealed 00:28:47.86\00:28:51.09 in the sanctuary system 00:28:51.13\00:28:53.13 that God gave to the children of Israel. 00:28:53.16\00:28:56.50 There was the tabernacle, the confession of sins, 00:28:56.53\00:29:00.00 the lamb that was slain symbolizing, 00:29:00.04\00:29:03.17 the coming Lamb of God. 00:29:03.20\00:29:04.97 In fact, David says in Psalm 77:13, 00:29:05.01\00:29:07.88 "Your way, oh God, it's in the sanctuary. 00:29:07.91\00:29:10.71 Who is so great a God as our God?" 00:29:10.75\00:29:14.62 And then I think of John the Baptist seen Jesus 00:29:14.65\00:29:17.15 when he came to the Jordan River, what did he say? 00:29:17.19\00:29:20.49 Behold, the Lamb of God, 00:29:20.52\00:29:21.89 which takes away the sin of the world. 00:29:21.92\00:29:26.16 So God gave them this plan of salvation 00:29:26.19\00:29:29.36 where they could look forward 00:29:29.40\00:29:31.60 with great anticipation and faith 00:29:31.63\00:29:34.87 to the coming Messiah. 00:29:34.90\00:29:36.77 Gift number four was God's provision. 00:29:36.81\00:29:40.08 This is amazing to me. 00:29:40.11\00:29:41.64 In Deuteronomy 29:5, it says, 00:29:41.68\00:29:44.75 "I have led you 40 years in the wilderness, 00:29:44.78\00:29:47.52 your clothes they have not worn out on you, 00:29:47.55\00:29:50.75 your sandals, they did not wear out on your feet." 00:29:50.79\00:29:54.52 God performed a miracle 00:29:54.56\00:29:56.06 and He kept their clothes from wearing out 00:29:56.09\00:29:58.96 and He kept their shoes from wearing out. 00:29:58.99\00:30:02.13 And He gave them the gift of manna, 00:30:02.16\00:30:04.37 which we're going to see in just a moment. 00:30:04.40\00:30:06.87 So he fed them. 00:30:06.90\00:30:08.24 He clothed them. 00:30:08.27\00:30:09.60 He shoved them. 00:30:09.64\00:30:10.97 You could say, I guess, with the shoes. 00:30:11.01\00:30:12.47 And he kept that for 40 years. 00:30:12.51\00:30:15.31 God's provision for His people. 00:30:15.34\00:30:18.08 Gift number five is the gift of God's law. 00:30:18.11\00:30:21.35 We see that in Exodus 20, I won't take time to read that. 00:30:21.38\00:30:24.19 Pastor John and Pastor Johnny both referenced 00:30:24.22\00:30:26.39 the fourth commandment there, 00:30:26.42\00:30:27.82 but God gave them the gift of His law. 00:30:27.86\00:30:30.89 The transcript, as it were of His character. 00:30:30.93\00:30:34.30 Gift number six is where we're going to spend 00:30:34.33\00:30:36.77 the rest of our time. 00:30:36.80\00:30:38.17 And this is God's weekly Sabbath rest. 00:30:38.20\00:30:42.94 Let's look at Exodus chapter 16. 00:30:42.97\00:30:45.54 Pastor Johnny mentioned this. 00:30:45.57\00:30:46.91 I think it was Pastor Johnny. 00:30:46.94\00:30:48.28 How the law, of course, the Ten Commandments 00:30:48.31\00:30:50.65 was given on Mount Sinai in Exodus 20. 00:30:50.68\00:30:53.52 And we see, remember the Sabbath day, 00:30:53.55\00:30:55.72 but before that in Exodus Chapter 16, 00:30:55.75\00:30:59.82 we see that there is a Sabbath here 00:30:59.85\00:31:01.89 even before the law was given. 00:31:01.92\00:31:04.36 So let's look at Exodus 16:14. 00:31:04.39\00:31:07.36 "And when the layer of dew lifted, 00:31:07.40\00:31:09.20 there, on the surface of the wilderness, 00:31:09.23\00:31:10.87 was a small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground. 00:31:10.90\00:31:15.80 So when the children of Israel saw it, 00:31:15.84\00:31:17.34 they said to one another, 'What is it?'" 00:31:17.37\00:31:19.64 Which literally means manna, 00:31:19.67\00:31:22.34 "For they did not know what it was. 00:31:22.38\00:31:24.11 And Moses said to them, 00:31:24.15\00:31:25.48 'This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat." 00:31:25.51\00:31:29.32 Can you imagine, you don't have food to eat 00:31:29.35\00:31:31.42 and you're in the wilderness 00:31:31.45\00:31:32.79 and there's no way to grow food. 00:31:32.82\00:31:34.16 And there's no way to get the water and the irrigation 00:31:34.19\00:31:35.96 for food or crops. 00:31:35.99\00:31:37.59 There's probably no animals. 00:31:37.63\00:31:38.96 So where are they going to get food? 00:31:38.99\00:31:40.86 God provided their food for 40 years in the wilderness. 00:31:40.90\00:31:45.87 Let's read verse 16. 00:31:45.90\00:31:47.27 Exodus 16:16. 00:31:47.30\00:31:50.27 "This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: 00:31:50.31\00:31:52.57 'Let every man gather according to each one's need.'" 00:31:52.61\00:31:55.64 Jump down to verse 19. 00:31:55.68\00:31:57.61 "And Moses said, 00:31:57.65\00:31:58.98 'Let no one leave any of it till morning.' 00:31:59.01\00:32:01.08 Not withstanding they did not heed Moses, 00:32:01.12\00:32:03.72 they did not obey. 00:32:03.75\00:32:05.22 Some of them left part of it until morning." 00:32:05.25\00:32:07.09 Maybe they thought I'm feeling lazy. 00:32:07.12\00:32:09.52 I don't want to go out tomorrow and gather manna. 00:32:09.56\00:32:13.40 I'm going to get a double portion today, 00:32:13.43\00:32:15.30 but what happened? 00:32:15.33\00:32:16.67 It bred worms and it stink, 00:32:16.70\00:32:19.03 and Moses became angry with them. 00:32:19.07\00:32:21.00 So they gathered it every morning. 00:32:21.04\00:32:22.57 Every man, according to his need, 00:32:22.60\00:32:24.37 when the sun became hot, it melted. 00:32:24.41\00:32:27.21 So they never got leftovers, 00:32:27.24\00:32:28.91 they gathered each day according to their need. 00:32:28.94\00:32:31.05 But here's where we see the Sabbath. 00:32:31.08\00:32:33.11 Verse 22, 00:32:33.15\00:32:34.48 "And so it was on the sixth day 00:32:34.52\00:32:35.92 that they gathered twice as much bread." 00:32:35.95\00:32:38.32 Verse 23. 00:32:38.35\00:32:39.69 Then Moses said to them, 00:32:39.72\00:32:41.49 'This is what the Lord has said: 00:32:41.52\00:32:42.89 Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the Lord. 00:32:42.92\00:32:46.49 Bake what you will bake today and boil what you will boil 00:32:46.53\00:32:50.30 and lay up for yourselves 00:32:50.33\00:32:51.67 all that remains to be kept until morning.'" 00:32:51.70\00:32:53.74 So they laid it up till morning as Moses commanded 00:32:53.77\00:32:56.10 and it did not stink. 00:32:56.14\00:32:57.77 And there were no worms found in it. 00:32:57.81\00:33:00.51 So they laid, they gathered a double portion on Friday. 00:33:00.54\00:33:02.88 Now remember they had tried this before. 00:33:02.91\00:33:04.48 On Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, they gathered a double portion. 00:33:04.51\00:33:07.15 The next day it had bred worms and it has stunk. 00:33:07.18\00:33:09.95 But on Friday when they gathered a double portion, 00:33:09.98\00:33:13.79 it didn't spoil and it was perfectly fresh for Sabbath. 00:33:13.82\00:33:18.63 It's amazing to me, the gift of God and the reminder 00:33:18.66\00:33:24.10 that God gave the children of Israel for 40 years 00:33:24.13\00:33:27.34 of the truth of His Sabbath. 00:33:27.37\00:33:29.14 Every Sabbath, that manna did not spoil. 00:33:29.17\00:33:32.47 And it reminded them, God worked a miracle. 00:33:32.51\00:33:35.21 It reminded them that the Sabbath was holy 00:33:35.24\00:33:38.85 and that he had, um, sanctified it 00:33:38.88\00:33:41.48 and consecrated it and blessed it. 00:33:41.52\00:33:44.02 Verse 25, 00:33:44.05\00:33:45.39 "Moses said, 'Eat that today, 00:33:45.42\00:33:46.89 for today is a Sabbath to the Lord, 00:33:46.92\00:33:48.62 today you will not find it in the field. 00:33:48.66\00:33:50.56 Six days, you shall gather it, 00:33:50.59\00:33:52.23 but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, 00:33:52.26\00:33:54.13 there will be none. 00:33:54.16\00:33:55.73 And there was none for 40 years. 00:33:55.76\00:33:57.93 It was a weekly reminder for those 40 years 00:33:57.97\00:34:00.44 of the sanctity of the Sabbath. 00:34:00.47\00:34:03.20 So what lessons do we see from this? 00:34:03.24\00:34:05.34 First God's law is perpetual. 00:34:05.37\00:34:07.21 It was in existence before 00:34:07.24\00:34:08.58 we see the Sabbath from creation. 00:34:08.61\00:34:10.11 We see the Sabbath in Exodus 16 00:34:10.15\00:34:12.48 prior to the giving of what some people say 00:34:12.51\00:34:14.68 would be the Jewish law. 00:34:14.72\00:34:16.05 We see the Sabbath in the law given in Exodus Chapter 20, 00:34:16.08\00:34:20.49 we see the Sabbath kept by Jesus 00:34:20.52\00:34:22.22 and all the way throughout the disciples and in eternity. 00:34:22.26\00:34:26.19 God's laws is perpetual. 00:34:26.23\00:34:27.90 God requires obedience. 00:34:27.93\00:34:30.97 We don't do it in our own strength. 00:34:31.00\00:34:33.17 It is only by the grace of Jesus. 00:34:33.20\00:34:35.70 When we surrender to Him that we can keep His law. 00:34:35.74\00:34:40.78 We see that God provides for His people, 00:34:40.81\00:34:43.04 food and clothes and shoes and provision and sustenance. 00:34:43.08\00:34:47.02 We see that God is trustworthy, 00:34:47.05\00:34:48.78 that He stands back of every promise 00:34:48.82\00:34:51.65 that He has ever made to you and to me, 00:34:51.69\00:34:53.92 and we see that God, He cares for His people. 00:34:53.96\00:34:57.26 He would not have provided for them if He did not care. 00:34:57.29\00:35:00.60 So whatever you are going through right now, honor, 00:35:00.63\00:35:03.97 and keep what God has asked you to do. 00:35:04.00\00:35:06.57 And He will provide for you. 00:35:06.60\00:35:08.20 Amen. Thank you, Jill. 00:35:08.24\00:35:10.11 I have Wednesday study, 00:35:10.14\00:35:11.47 which is Another Reason to Rest. 00:35:11.51\00:35:13.48 And I just want to start off by saying, 00:35:13.51\00:35:15.61 I think it's important 00:35:15.64\00:35:17.48 when we look at the Bible 00:35:17.51\00:35:19.38 to keep a timeline perspective. 00:35:19.41\00:35:22.65 We look at it through the lens of time. 00:35:22.68\00:35:24.99 For example, Genesis Chapter 1 through 11 00:35:25.02\00:35:29.19 covers 2000 years of history 00:35:29.22\00:35:33.53 in just those first 11 chapters 00:35:33.56\00:35:37.40 and then 12 through 50, 00:35:37.43\00:35:39.43 well that covers another couple hundred years 00:35:39.47\00:35:42.07 that is weighted heavily on Moses and the covenant. 00:35:42.10\00:35:46.21 But the point is, people will say, 00:35:46.24\00:35:48.08 huh, well, we don't see the commandments written 00:35:48.11\00:35:50.61 or you see in Genesis 26:5. 00:35:50.65\00:35:52.91 I mean, this is a whole such dense history, 00:35:52.95\00:35:55.88 but you see in Genesis 26:5, 00:35:55.92\00:35:59.15 that it talks about Moses keeping God's commandments. 00:35:59.19\00:36:02.02 So we need to look at that through that timeline. 00:36:02.06\00:36:07.20 And same for Deuteronomy. 00:36:07.23\00:36:09.20 Deuteronomy is a collection of Moses' sermons, 00:36:09.23\00:36:13.77 and this was sermons to the next generation. 00:36:13.80\00:36:18.81 This is after those who had wandered in the desert, 00:36:18.84\00:36:22.98 who had disobeyed, 00:36:23.01\00:36:24.35 would refuse to go to the Promised Land. 00:36:24.38\00:36:26.75 This was their children, 00:36:26.78\00:36:28.12 anybody that had been 20 or under at that time. 00:36:28.15\00:36:31.35 And it's interesting. 00:36:31.39\00:36:33.25 The Book of Deuteronomy 00:36:33.29\00:36:36.16 takes place during the period of about one month. 00:36:36.19\00:36:40.30 This is, uh, and it's all in that one same place. 00:36:40.33\00:36:44.97 They're standing on the edge of promise. 00:36:45.00\00:36:48.37 They were encamped in the Central Rift Valley 00:36:48.40\00:36:52.34 to the east of the Jordan River, 00:36:52.37\00:36:55.31 standing at the edge of Canaan and Moses is going to die. 00:36:55.34\00:37:00.15 So, he is passing all of this on, 00:37:00.18\00:37:02.78 and then Joshua would lead them in, into, uh, Egypt. 00:37:02.82\00:37:07.32 The word Deuteronomy in the Hebrew. 00:37:07.36\00:37:11.36 It's uh, like a copy of the law or in the Greek, 00:37:11.39\00:37:16.26 it's the second giving of the law. 00:37:16.30\00:37:18.73 And what happens, 00:37:18.77\00:37:20.47 what was the first giving of the old covenant? 00:37:20.50\00:37:25.37 It was written in the Book of the Covenant, 00:37:25.41\00:37:28.01 not the Ten Commandments that God wrote, 00:37:28.04\00:37:30.78 but when Moses went up before God, 00:37:30.81\00:37:34.25 even God had spoken the Ten Commandments, 00:37:34.28\00:37:37.19 Moses goes up for 40 days, comes back, 00:37:37.22\00:37:41.26 tells them everything that God says, 00:37:41.29\00:37:43.79 God says, write it in a book. 00:37:43.83\00:37:45.56 He writes it in. 00:37:45.59\00:37:46.93 What's called the Book of the Covenant, 00:37:46.96\00:37:48.53 builds the altar, has a sacrifice. 00:37:48.56\00:37:51.00 He ratifies the covenant. 00:37:51.03\00:37:53.10 Then Moses goes back up for another 40 days 00:37:53.13\00:37:57.14 and gets the Ten Commandments written on the stone. 00:37:57.17\00:38:01.34 So the Book of the Covenant 00:38:01.38\00:38:04.71 contained the Ten Commandments. 00:38:04.75\00:38:07.68 It was the heart of the old covenant, 00:38:07.72\00:38:10.22 but the Ten Commandments are not the old covenant. 00:38:10.25\00:38:12.85 So what happened is in the Book of Deuteronomy, 00:38:12.89\00:38:17.46 Moses is taking that Book of the Covenant, 00:38:17.49\00:38:19.89 which was the civil laws, ceremonial laws, 00:38:19.93\00:38:23.26 and the Ten Commandments. 00:38:23.30\00:38:25.07 And now he's giving it to them in much greater detail, 00:38:25.10\00:38:29.10 just as he expanded the ceremonial law 00:38:29.14\00:38:31.31 in Leviticus, telling all the details 00:38:31.34\00:38:33.81 of what the priest would do in the feasts. 00:38:33.84\00:38:36.75 But now this is more detailed and God tells him, 00:38:36.78\00:38:40.75 write it out in a book, 00:38:40.78\00:38:42.55 and it's called the book of the law. 00:38:42.58\00:38:44.95 And God tells him to take this book of the law. 00:38:44.99\00:38:49.72 This is Deuteronomy 31:26-27. 00:38:49.76\00:38:54.63 God tells him, take this book of the law 00:38:54.66\00:38:59.00 and put it beside the Ark of the Covenant 00:38:59.03\00:39:03.37 of the Lord Your God, 00:39:03.41\00:39:05.24 that it may be there as a witness against you. 00:39:05.27\00:39:10.35 Now isn't this interesting. 00:39:10.38\00:39:12.15 Where did God have Moses put the two tablets of stone? 00:39:12.18\00:39:18.15 Inside the ark. 00:39:18.19\00:39:19.52 The ark represented the throne of God. 00:39:19.55\00:39:23.32 And God told him, you put inside the ark 00:39:23.36\00:39:26.80 under the mercy seat, you put these two stone tablets, 00:39:26.83\00:39:32.13 that shows written on stone inside the ark, 00:39:32.17\00:39:36.47 inside the Most Holy Place, God's mercy seat over it. 00:39:36.50\00:39:40.18 It shows permanence. 00:39:40.21\00:39:41.64 But this book of the law, this old covenant, 00:39:41.68\00:39:44.68 think of it as the constitution for the nation of Israel. 00:39:44.71\00:39:48.88 And what God did is had Moses write it out. 00:39:48.92\00:39:52.42 The book of the law rolled it up 00:39:52.45\00:39:53.96 and put it in a side pocket. 00:39:53.99\00:39:56.49 It was temporary. 00:39:56.52\00:39:57.89 And you know what? 00:39:57.93\00:39:59.26 It shows when Moses explaining all of this, 00:39:59.29\00:40:03.23 it shows God's high standards for His covenant people. 00:40:03.26\00:40:08.00 It explained the relationship of love 00:40:08.04\00:40:11.97 that God had with His people, 00:40:12.01\00:40:14.84 but He expected them to reflect His love to them 00:40:14.88\00:40:19.88 by returning that love to Him and obedience 00:40:19.91\00:40:23.92 was to be a response of love and faith. 00:40:23.95\00:40:28.82 In this book of the law, 00:40:28.86\00:40:32.16 there were blessings for obedience 00:40:32.19\00:40:34.36 and there were certainly strong words, 00:40:34.40\00:40:36.56 there were curses for disobedience. 00:40:36.60\00:40:38.90 So, that's why God said it would stand there 00:40:38.93\00:40:40.90 as a witness against you. 00:40:40.94\00:40:43.20 Now, interestingly in Deuteronomy 5, 00:40:43.24\00:40:46.57 Moses gives the Sabbath commandment 00:40:46.61\00:40:49.21 differently than it did in Exodus 20:8-11. 00:40:49.24\00:40:53.08 Remember in Exodus 20:8-11, God begins, 00:40:53.11\00:40:56.62 remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, 00:40:56.65\00:40:59.89 for in six days, the Lord your God created 00:40:59.92\00:41:04.13 the heavens and the earth and the sea 00:41:04.16\00:41:05.89 and everything that was in it, 00:41:05.93\00:41:07.66 and He hallowed the seventh day when He rested on it. 00:41:07.70\00:41:12.43 But now listen to Deuteronomy 5. 00:41:12.47\00:41:16.20 This is when Moses is re-giving this. 00:41:16.24\00:41:19.77 Deuteronomy 5:12, 00:41:19.81\00:41:22.08 "Observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy, 00:41:22.11\00:41:24.35 as the Lord your God commanded you. 00:41:24.38\00:41:26.08 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 00:41:26.11\00:41:28.88 but the seventh day is the Sabbath 00:41:28.92\00:41:30.85 of the Lord your God. 00:41:30.89\00:41:32.22 In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, 00:41:32.25\00:41:35.02 nor your daughter, nor your male servant, 00:41:35.06\00:41:36.56 nor your female servant, nor your ox, 00:41:36.59\00:41:38.36 nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, 00:41:38.39\00:41:41.20 nor your stranger who is within your gates." 00:41:41.23\00:41:44.57 And remember... Yes. 00:41:44.60\00:41:47.30 Yeah. 00:41:47.34\00:41:48.67 Get this. Yeah. 00:41:48.70\00:41:50.04 Remember what? 00:41:50.07\00:41:51.41 That you were a slave 00:41:51.44\00:41:53.91 in the land of Egypt 00:41:53.94\00:41:57.21 and the Lord Your God brought you out from there 00:41:57.25\00:42:00.75 by a mighty hand. 00:42:00.78\00:42:02.58 By an outstretched arm, 00:42:02.62\00:42:04.25 therefore the Lord, your God 00:42:04.29\00:42:06.86 commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. 00:42:06.89\00:42:09.82 The Sabbath is a memorial. 00:42:09.86\00:42:11.86 Exodus 20 shows us, it is a memorial 00:42:11.89\00:42:15.60 that we're remembering. 00:42:15.63\00:42:17.07 God is our creator. 00:42:17.10\00:42:19.50 In six literal days He created this earth, 00:42:19.53\00:42:23.07 and He's the one who recreates us 00:42:23.10\00:42:24.71 in the image of Jesus. 00:42:24.74\00:42:26.64 According to Exodus 31:13, the Sabbath is a memorial. 00:42:26.68\00:42:30.58 God says, hey, remember that? 00:42:30.61\00:42:32.68 It's to show you. 00:42:32.71\00:42:34.05 It's a sign 00:42:34.08\00:42:35.42 that I am the Lord who sanctifies you, 00:42:35.45\00:42:37.19 who sets you apart from evil. 00:42:37.22\00:42:40.39 But now in addition to that, 00:42:40.42\00:42:43.22 Moses in reviewing this Decalogue 00:42:43.26\00:42:46.36 shows that the observance of the Sabbath 00:42:46.39\00:42:49.96 is that we're celebrating God as our redeemer, 00:42:50.00\00:42:53.77 as our liberator. 00:42:53.80\00:42:55.74 He brought the people out of Egypt, 00:42:55.77\00:42:57.77 and that is a, uh, a symbolic thing 00:42:57.81\00:43:00.88 is we think of being in Egypt is being in sin. 00:43:00.91\00:43:04.11 Yes. 00:43:04.15\00:43:05.48 Now, I have to say this, people sometime miss this idea. 00:43:05.51\00:43:10.39 It's already been expressed in Exodus, 00:43:10.42\00:43:12.75 and I want to go real quickly to Exodus 19:4-6. 00:43:12.79\00:43:17.33 God is speaking to Israel and He says, 00:43:17.36\00:43:21.76 this is before He's even spoken the Ten Commandments. 00:43:21.80\00:43:24.87 This is when he's calling them. 00:43:24.90\00:43:26.94 He's about to come down on the mountain. 00:43:26.97\00:43:29.24 And you know what he says? 00:43:29.27\00:43:30.71 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, 00:43:30.74\00:43:33.68 how I bore you on eagle's wings and brought you to myself. 00:43:33.71\00:43:39.55 This is covenant love language. 00:43:39.58\00:43:42.82 This is God saying, hey, I've already redeemed you. 00:43:42.85\00:43:46.99 I brought you out of Egypt. 00:43:47.02\00:43:49.22 I've saved you. 00:43:49.26\00:43:51.16 Now, therefore He says in verse 5, 00:43:51.19\00:43:53.56 "If you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant." 00:43:53.60\00:43:57.30 God keeps covenant with those who keep covenant with Him. 00:43:57.33\00:43:59.67 That's right. 00:43:59.70\00:44:01.04 Then you shall be a special treasure to me 00:44:01.07\00:44:02.90 above all the earth for all the earth is mine. 00:44:02.94\00:44:05.04 And you shall be to me a kingdom of priests 00:44:05.07\00:44:07.74 and a holy nation. 00:44:07.78\00:44:09.71 These are the words he's telling Moses, 00:44:09.74\00:44:13.01 that you shall speak to the children of Israel. 00:44:13.05\00:44:18.32 And then the preamble to the Ten Commandments itself. 00:44:18.35\00:44:22.06 We always start off with, 00:44:22.09\00:44:24.09 you shall have no other God before me, 00:44:24.13\00:44:25.79 but how the Ten Commandments actually begin. 00:44:25.83\00:44:28.33 Exodus 21, God comes down 00:44:28.36\00:44:32.87 with all these pyro techniques in a display of His glory. 00:44:32.90\00:44:38.41 And He says, He speaks all these words saying 00:44:38.44\00:44:43.28 this is where He begins the Ten Commandments. 00:44:43.31\00:44:45.78 I am the Lord Your God, 00:44:45.81\00:44:48.58 who brought you out of the land of Egypt, 00:44:48.62\00:44:52.72 out of the house of bondage. 00:44:52.75\00:44:56.89 Oh, the Sabbath is a wonderful reason to rest. 00:44:56.93\00:45:01.36 God's our creator. 00:45:01.40\00:45:02.90 God is the one who sanctifies us and God, 00:45:02.93\00:45:06.17 we can celebrate Him as our redeemer, our liberator. 00:45:06.20\00:45:11.01 Amen. So the day arrives and September 22nd, 2002. 00:46:39.96\00:46:44.87 And as there in the morning, and I want you to know that, 00:46:44.90\00:46:48.90 as I got ready and looked in the mirror 00:46:48.94\00:46:50.37 and I made sure my tie looked a little straighter, 00:46:50.41\00:46:53.54 I don't know if it's straight right now, 00:46:53.58\00:46:54.91 but you can help me out there at home. 00:46:54.94\00:46:56.71 And then I made sure that my shirt had been ironed 00:46:56.75\00:46:59.65 and my suit was pressed nice. 00:46:59.68\00:47:01.72 Then my shoes were polished and that most of my hair 00:47:01.75\00:47:04.82 wasn't sticking up. 00:47:04.85\00:47:06.19 Right? 00:50:41.40\00:50:43.10 No more sickness, no more death, no more pain. 00:50:43.14\00:50:45.97 Praise the Lord. 00:50:46.01\00:50:47.34 Hallelujah for that. 00:50:47.38\00:50:48.71 And on the Sabbath day, 00:50:48.74\00:50:50.08 we can remember that we can depend on God. 00:50:50.11\00:50:52.91 You know, so I also think about the Sabbath. 00:50:52.95\00:50:54.75 I remember as a kid, sometimes I look at the Sabbath and say, 00:50:54.78\00:50:57.15 oh, the Sabbath is coming. 00:50:57.19\00:50:59.82 I can't do this and I can't do that. 00:50:59.85\00:51:02.52 And it's just a whole bunch of do's and don'ts. 00:51:02.56\00:51:04.03 You know what? 00:51:04.06\00:51:05.39 It was all about myself. 00:51:05.43\00:51:06.76 I was thinking about myself, right? 00:51:06.80\00:51:08.60 We need to think about the Sabbath as a delight, 00:51:08.63\00:51:11.57 Isaiah 58:13. 00:51:11.60\00:51:14.57 And let's look at 14. 00:51:14.60\00:51:16.67 "If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, 00:51:16.71\00:51:18.81 from doing your pleasure on My holy day, 00:51:18.84\00:51:21.24 and call the Sabbath," what? 00:51:21.28\00:51:22.61 "A delight, the holy day of the Lord honorable, 00:51:22.64\00:51:25.51 and shall honor Him, not doing your own ways, 00:51:25.55\00:51:27.62 nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words." 00:51:27.65\00:51:30.85 Verse 14, 00:51:30.89\00:51:32.22 "Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord, 00:51:32.25\00:51:34.29 and I will cause thee to ride upon the high hills 00:51:34.32\00:51:37.03 of the earth, and so, 00:51:37.06\00:51:39.46 and the heritage of Jacob thy father, 00:51:39.49\00:51:41.40 for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it." 00:51:41.43\00:51:43.87 So, you know, oftentimes when I think about 00:51:43.90\00:51:45.93 maybe the drudgery of the Sabbath, 00:51:45.97\00:51:47.87 it's all about my approach to the Sabbath day. 00:51:47.90\00:51:52.91 Now I think for us, or at least for myself, 00:51:52.94\00:51:55.94 I don't want to include you in this, but for me, 00:51:55.98\00:51:57.81 it's how I plan for the Sabbath, right? 00:51:57.85\00:51:59.68 I was going back to my wedding day. 00:51:59.71\00:52:01.32 If that morning I've also woken up, said, oh no, I think, 00:52:01.35\00:52:04.22 I need a suit and I need a white shirt 00:52:04.25\00:52:05.92 and what time am I supposed to wear? 00:52:05.95\00:52:07.96 I was planning for that appointment, right? 00:52:07.99\00:52:10.66 So we plan for the appointment of the Sabbath. 00:52:10.69\00:52:13.73 To me, you should start on Sunday, right? 00:52:13.76\00:52:15.36 And all the way up to the preparation day 00:52:15.40\00:52:17.83 on Friday, I think about, we plan for holidays, don't we? 00:52:17.87\00:52:21.40 We plan for birthdays. 00:52:21.44\00:52:22.77 We plan for all kinds of things. 00:52:22.80\00:52:24.14 Why can't we plan for the Sabbath? 00:52:24.17\00:52:26.14 To me, it's a no-brainer. 00:52:26.17\00:52:28.54 The Sabbath is all about the family as well. 00:52:28.58\00:52:30.55 Spending time with family, I'm running out of time, 00:52:30.58\00:52:33.15 but Leviticus 19:3 talks about every one of you 00:52:33.18\00:52:36.18 basically honoring your father and your mother 00:52:36.22\00:52:38.35 and keeping God's Sabbaths. 00:52:38.39\00:52:41.06 And that to me is a time of fellowship. 00:52:41.09\00:52:42.72 You may not have biological family that you can spend time 00:52:42.76\00:52:45.23 with, but think about, Pastor, church family, right? 00:52:45.26\00:52:47.40 True. 00:52:47.43\00:52:48.76 I mean, that's your family as well. 00:52:48.80\00:52:50.13 And I know we here at 3ABN want to be your family 00:52:50.17\00:52:52.70 if you don't have family at home 00:52:52.73\00:52:54.27 that you can spend time with. 00:52:54.30\00:52:55.90 And I think about also nurturing relationships, 00:52:55.94\00:52:58.41 you know, that's an important aspect of the Sabbath as well. 00:52:58.44\00:53:01.94 Then we have to go down to, um, let's look at Luke 4:16 00:53:01.98\00:53:06.38 and it talks about Jesus went into the synagogue 00:53:06.41\00:53:09.68 on the Sabbath day. 00:53:09.72\00:53:11.05 So, we don't want to forsake the assembling of ourselves 00:53:11.09\00:53:13.15 together with brothers and sisters of like faith 00:53:13.19\00:53:15.76 that can be found in Hebrews 10:25. 00:53:15.79\00:53:18.46 I know I'm going through these scriptures really quick, 00:53:18.49\00:53:20.83 but I've heard this excuse before pastor 00:53:20.86\00:53:25.03 about people saying, you know what? 00:53:25.07\00:53:26.50 I don't want to go to church 00:53:26.53\00:53:28.17 because there's a whole bunch of hypocrites 00:53:28.20\00:53:29.54 in the church, right? 00:53:29.57\00:53:30.91 So, you know, I'm just going to stay home and watch 3ABN. 00:53:30.94\00:53:33.81 Well, we appreciate you watching 3ABN, 00:53:33.84\00:53:35.61 but if you can attend church, we encourage you to do so. 00:53:35.64\00:53:38.01 But I want to tell you this, 00:53:38.05\00:53:39.38 that Jesus went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day. 00:53:39.41\00:53:41.35 Well, who was in the synagogue?
