Praise the Lord. Thank you. 00:02:16.56\00:02:18.40 And way down there at the end of the table, 00:02:18.43\00:02:20.44 but certainly not last. 00:02:20.47\00:02:21.80 Brother Kenny Shelton, 00:02:21.84\00:02:23.17 it's always a blessing to have you, Brother. 00:02:23.20\00:02:24.54 Blessing to be here and share God's Word. 00:02:24.57\00:02:26.34 Praise the Lord. Thank you. 00:02:26.37\00:02:27.71 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:02:27.74\00:02:29.18 This week lesson number four in our study on Rest in Christ. 00:02:29.21\00:02:34.28 We're going to be talking about the cost of rest. 00:02:34.32\00:02:36.79 There is a cost associated 00:02:36.82\00:02:38.75 for having that special spiritual rest 00:02:38.79\00:02:41.19 in Jesus Christ. 00:02:41.22\00:02:42.56 But before we get into our study, 00:02:42.59\00:02:44.29 we always need to invite the Holy Spirit 00:02:44.33\00:02:45.86 to lead and guide us in this study. 00:02:45.89\00:02:47.23 And so, Sister Shelley, would you have a prayer for us? 00:02:47.26\00:02:49.36 Absolutely. 00:02:49.40\00:02:51.10 Our glorious Heavenly Father, 00:02:51.13\00:02:52.80 how we praise You and thank You 00:02:52.83\00:02:54.50 for Your plan of salvation by grace, 00:02:54.54\00:02:57.21 for Jesus Christ, 00:02:57.24\00:02:58.57 for Your Holy Spirit and Your Word. 00:02:58.61\00:03:00.88 And, Lord, now as we open Your Word, 00:03:00.91\00:03:02.98 we pray for Your anointing on us, 00:03:03.01\00:03:04.95 on our minds 00:03:04.98\00:03:06.31 that You would speak through us. 00:03:06.35\00:03:07.98 And, Lord, give us all ears to hear 00:03:08.02\00:03:10.89 what the Holy Spirit has to say in Jesus' name. 00:03:10.92\00:03:14.16 Amen. Amen. 00:03:14.19\00:03:15.52 Amen. Thank you so much. 00:03:15.56\00:03:17.96 So I'm going to jump right into our memory text, 00:03:17.99\00:03:19.86 which to me, it's one of my favorite texts. 00:03:19.89\00:03:21.96 In fact, it's one of my favorite 00:03:22.00\00:03:23.33 scripture songs to sing. 00:03:23.37\00:03:24.73 And, of course, that's Psalm 51:10. 00:03:24.77\00:03:28.04 Of course, this is those powerful words 00:03:28.07\00:03:29.90 coming from the repentant heart of King David 00:03:29.94\00:03:33.01 as he speaks out and says. 00:03:33.04\00:03:34.38 Again, Psalm 51:10, he says, 00:03:34.41\00:03:36.44 "Create in me a clean heart, O God, 00:03:36.48\00:03:39.58 and renew a right spirit 00:03:39.61\00:03:41.48 or a steadfast spirit within me." 00:03:41.52\00:03:45.02 And so, I always like to find a little bit of a nugget, 00:03:45.05\00:03:48.79 something that you can find within the study itself 00:03:48.82\00:03:50.99 without having to read the entire study. 00:03:51.03\00:03:52.59 But every once in a while, 00:03:52.63\00:03:54.40 there's something just so profound 00:03:54.43\00:03:55.76 and so nice in there 00:03:55.80\00:03:57.13 that I just have to just read it word for word. 00:03:57.17\00:03:58.87 And I always like to take that, to do that 00:03:58.90\00:04:01.24 because the writers work so hard 00:04:01.27\00:04:02.60 to produce these lessons, 00:04:02.64\00:04:03.97 and I enjoyed reading the beginning part 00:04:04.01\00:04:06.84 of Sabbath afternoon study, 00:04:06.88\00:04:09.21 because it has this to say. 00:04:09.24\00:04:10.58 It says, 00:04:10.61\00:04:11.95 "Many people seem desperate to find 00:04:11.98\00:04:13.31 a little peace and quiet. 00:04:13.35\00:04:15.68 They are willing to pay for it, too. 00:04:15.72\00:04:18.45 In many big cities there are internet-free rooms, 00:04:18.49\00:04:21.12 which can be hired by the hour. 00:04:21.16\00:04:23.36 The rules are strict, no noise, no visitors. 00:04:23.39\00:04:27.43 People are willing to pay to be able to sit quietly 00:04:27.46\00:04:30.27 and just think or nap. 00:04:30.30\00:04:32.47 There are sleep pods that can be hired in airports, 00:04:32.50\00:04:35.60 and noise-reducing earphones are popular items. 00:04:35.64\00:04:39.17 There are even canvas hoods, or collapsible privacy shields 00:04:39.21\00:04:43.55 that you can buy to pull over your head and torso 00:04:43.58\00:04:46.88 for a quick workplace break. 00:04:46.92\00:04:50.49 And as I was reading through that list, 00:04:50.52\00:04:52.45 a couple of them I've heard of, 00:04:52.49\00:04:53.82 but a few of those 00:04:53.86\00:04:55.19 I've never heard of these things, 00:04:55.22\00:04:56.56 and apparently people will do a lot these days 00:04:56.59\00:04:58.93 just for a little peace and quiet. 00:04:58.96\00:05:01.26 And as the lesson brings out, 00:05:01.30\00:05:02.86 sometimes you have to pay for these things, 00:05:02.90\00:05:04.63 because oftentimes rest comes at a cost. 00:05:04.67\00:05:08.24 And that certainly is the same concept 00:05:08.27\00:05:10.47 as we look into how to rest in Christ. 00:05:10.51\00:05:13.61 It comes at a cost. 00:05:13.64\00:05:15.14 And we're going to talk about that today in our lesson. 00:05:15.18\00:05:17.95 I want to go right directly into Sunday's lesson, 00:05:17.98\00:05:20.35 because this actually helps 00:05:20.38\00:05:21.72 to set the framework, the groundwork 00:05:21.75\00:05:25.12 for what we're going to be talking today. 00:05:25.15\00:05:26.62 King David is a primary example 00:05:26.65\00:05:29.22 of how we can have rest in Christ. 00:05:29.26\00:05:31.73 But sometimes, you know, something can happen 00:05:31.76\00:05:34.86 that can cause that rest to cease, 00:05:34.90\00:05:37.27 in which we now have to go back 00:05:37.30\00:05:38.63 and we have to plead at the throne of grace and say, 00:05:38.67\00:05:41.37 "Lord, I want to be in Your rest. 00:05:41.40\00:05:43.20 I want to restore that rest in You." 00:05:43.24\00:05:45.91 That was certainly the truth in King David's situation. 00:05:45.94\00:05:49.74 And so what I want to do is 00:05:49.78\00:05:51.11 I want to go directly to the scripture. 00:05:51.15\00:05:52.48 So let's find ourselves in 2 Samuel Chapter 11. 00:05:52.51\00:05:55.48 In fact, the bulk of what I'm going to be studying today 00:05:55.52\00:05:58.05 or reading from is 2 Samuel Chapter 11. 00:05:58.09\00:06:00.99 We're going to start at the very beginning. 00:06:01.02\00:06:02.82 This is a story that many of us have probably heard many times, 00:06:02.86\00:06:05.69 but I suspect that 00:06:05.73\00:06:07.06 there's someone watching at home right now 00:06:07.10\00:06:08.43 that may have never heard the story before. 00:06:08.46\00:06:10.13 And there are certain, certainly some lessons 00:06:10.17\00:06:11.83 we can learn from this. 00:06:11.87\00:06:14.14 And so, 2 Samuel 11:1-5, the Bible says, 00:06:14.17\00:06:19.04 "It happened in the spring of the year, 00:06:19.07\00:06:21.54 at the time when kings go out to battle," 00:06:21.58\00:06:24.11 notice that, 00:06:24.15\00:06:25.48 when kings go out to battle, right? 00:06:25.51\00:06:27.18 "That David sent Joab and his servants with him, 00:06:27.22\00:06:30.89 and all Israel, 00:06:30.92\00:06:32.32 and they destroyed the people of Ammon 00:06:32.35\00:06:35.19 and besieged Rabbah. 00:06:35.22\00:06:37.26 But David remained at Jerusalem." 00:06:37.29\00:06:39.96 So I just want to, 00:06:40.00\00:06:41.33 just highlight that for a moment. 00:06:41.36\00:06:42.70 This is, the Bible's bringing out 00:06:42.73\00:06:44.07 that this is usually a time of the year 00:06:44.10\00:06:45.43 when kings go out to battle. 00:06:45.47\00:06:46.80 But in this particular case in, 00:06:46.84\00:06:48.17 I don't think anyone's going to argue 00:06:48.20\00:06:49.54 that King David 00:06:49.57\00:06:50.91 is one of the great military minds 00:06:50.94\00:06:53.17 in God's kingdom and God's people, 00:06:53.21\00:06:54.78 especially his nation. 00:06:54.81\00:06:56.34 And so it goes on to say 00:06:56.38\00:06:57.71 that David remained in Jerusalem during this time 00:06:57.75\00:07:00.35 when perhaps maybe he would have normally 00:07:00.38\00:07:02.52 been out with his men battling in this case. 00:07:02.55\00:07:06.35 But it goes on to say in verse 2, 00:07:06.39\00:07:07.72 "Then it happened one evening 00:07:07.76\00:07:09.12 that David arose from his bed 00:07:09.16\00:07:11.29 and walked on the roof of the king's house. 00:07:11.33\00:07:13.80 And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, 00:07:13.83\00:07:16.46 and the woman was very beautiful to behold. 00:07:16.50\00:07:18.93 So David sent and inquired about the woman. 00:07:18.97\00:07:21.50 And someone said, 00:07:21.54\00:07:22.97 'Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, 00:07:23.00\00:07:26.57 and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?' 00:07:26.61\00:07:28.74 Then David sent messengers, and took her, 00:07:28.78\00:07:32.28 and she came to him, and he lay with her, 00:07:32.31\00:07:34.78 for she was cleansed from her impurity, 00:07:34.82\00:07:37.02 and she returned to her house. 00:07:37.05\00:07:39.05 And the woman conceived, so she sent and told David, 00:07:39.09\00:07:43.43 and said, 'I am with child.'" 00:07:43.46\00:07:46.56 So, I have to just say, again, 00:07:46.59\00:07:49.50 this is one of those stories, 00:07:49.53\00:07:50.87 you just have, you read it and you can't help 00:07:50.90\00:07:52.30 but just say this is one twisted story. 00:07:52.33\00:07:54.50 But yet it is often in these twisted stories 00:07:54.54\00:07:57.04 that we read that we learn so many incredible lessons. 00:07:57.07\00:07:59.94 And in this case, David as the Bible describes 00:07:59.97\00:08:01.94 was a man after God's own heart. 00:08:01.98\00:08:03.58 And even though he falls into this dreadful sin, 00:08:03.61\00:08:05.61 which we're going to talk about in further detail. 00:08:05.65\00:08:08.58 We're going to see that that man after God's own heart, 00:08:08.62\00:08:11.25 he saw his sin, he repented of that sin, 00:08:11.29\00:08:13.72 and he was able to restore that rest in Christ. 00:08:13.76\00:08:15.86 But I just have to make mention here 00:08:15.89\00:08:17.96 that again, the cost of rest here, 00:08:17.99\00:08:20.40 I don't think that may be the lesson, 00:08:20.43\00:08:22.30 the person who wrote the lesson intended for this to be so 00:08:22.33\00:08:24.63 or maybe they did. 00:08:24.67\00:08:26.00 But the idea would be here that I caught from this is that 00:08:26.03\00:08:28.47 there's a time, you know, the Bible talks about 00:08:28.50\00:08:30.07 there's a time for this, and there's a time for that, 00:08:30.11\00:08:31.71 and there's a season for this. 00:08:31.74\00:08:33.07 In this case, there's a time 00:08:33.11\00:08:34.44 when king should be out to battle, 00:08:34.48\00:08:35.81 and there's a time when king should be at rest. 00:08:35.84\00:08:37.31 And this time was probably a time 00:08:37.35\00:08:38.68 when David should not have been at rest, 00:08:38.71\00:08:40.62 because he found himself atop of this roof. 00:08:40.65\00:08:42.48 And he found himself 00:08:42.52\00:08:43.85 obviously making the wrong choice, 00:08:43.89\00:08:45.35 which would cause a domino effect, 00:08:45.39\00:08:47.02 a snowball effect of things that I'm sure 00:08:47.06\00:08:49.19 obviously looking back on, he would have done differently, 00:08:49.22\00:08:52.43 obviously, if it had not had been done that way. 00:08:52.46\00:08:54.36 So that being said, let's go on in the scripture, 00:08:54.40\00:08:56.70 verse 6, we're continuing the story here. 00:08:56.73\00:08:58.40 It says, 00:08:58.43\00:08:59.77 "Then David sent to Joab, saying, 00:08:59.80\00:09:01.47 'Send me Uriah the Hittite.'" 00:09:01.50\00:09:03.34 Again, Uriah is the husband of Bathsheba. 00:09:03.37\00:09:06.17 And so he says, Joab, sent for him. 00:09:06.21\00:09:07.91 "And Joab sent Uriah to David. 00:09:07.94\00:09:09.81 When Uriah had come to him, David asked how Joab was doing, 00:09:09.84\00:09:13.31 and how the people were doing, and how the war prospered. 00:09:13.35\00:09:15.78 And David said to Uriah, 00:09:15.82\00:09:17.65 'Go down to your house and wash your feet.' 00:09:17.69\00:09:19.62 So Uriah departed from the king's house, 00:09:19.65\00:09:21.92 and a gift of food from the king followed him.'" 00:09:21.96\00:09:25.16 Now you could just imagine in this story, 00:09:25.19\00:09:26.53 you can just imagine, 00:09:26.56\00:09:27.90 David has stepped out of grace at this moment. 00:09:27.93\00:09:29.73 He's not really thinking straight, 00:09:29.76\00:09:31.10 because he's already been tempted 00:09:31.13\00:09:32.87 and conceived that thought, that idea, 00:09:32.90\00:09:35.24 and he has acted upon it, and now he's committed sin. 00:09:35.27\00:09:37.87 And so in this case, you know, he's not thinking clearly 00:09:37.91\00:09:40.64 and so much so that 00:09:40.68\00:09:42.01 now he begins to plan and to plot 00:09:42.04\00:09:44.15 how he can somehow get out of this. 00:09:44.18\00:09:46.15 And a part of his plan is, you know what? 00:09:46.18\00:09:47.52 I'm gonna bring Uriah back here. 00:09:47.55\00:09:48.88 I'm gonna say, 00:09:48.92\00:09:50.25 "Hey, brother, I know you've been working hard. 00:09:50.29\00:09:51.62 You've been out there doing a good job. 00:09:51.65\00:09:53.22 Get on back to your house, rest up 00:09:53.25\00:09:55.39 and let me send you some goodies back with you. 00:09:55.42\00:09:57.39 You've been a good boy, right? 00:09:57.43\00:09:59.26 And so, it didn't actually 00:09:59.29\00:10:00.63 turn out the way David was hoping. 00:10:00.66\00:10:02.00 Notice what the Bible says in verse 9. 00:10:02.03\00:10:03.93 "But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house 00:10:03.97\00:10:06.63 with all the servants of his lord, 00:10:06.67\00:10:08.10 and did not go down to his house. 00:10:08.14\00:10:10.01 So when they told David, saying, 00:10:10.04\00:10:11.47 'Uriah did not go down to his house,' 00:10:11.51\00:10:13.88 David said to Uriah, 00:10:13.91\00:10:15.34 'Did you not come from a journey? 00:10:15.38\00:10:17.35 Why did you not go down to your house?' 00:10:17.38\00:10:20.25 And Uriah said to David, 00:10:20.28\00:10:21.62 'Look, the ark and Israel and Judah 00:10:21.65\00:10:23.28 are dwelling in tents, 00:10:23.32\00:10:24.65 and my lord Joab and his servants of my lord 00:10:24.69\00:10:26.52 are encamped in the open fields. 00:10:26.55\00:10:28.42 Shall I then go to my house to eat and drink, 00:10:28.46\00:10:31.06 and to lie with my wife? 00:10:31.09\00:10:32.59 As you live, and as your soul lives, 00:10:32.63\00:10:34.33 I will not do this thing.'" 00:10:34.36\00:10:35.80 So Uriah takes the honorable route. 00:10:35.83\00:10:37.17 He says, 00:10:37.20\00:10:38.53 "Look, you know, the Ark of God's Covenant, 00:10:38.57\00:10:40.40 it's over there in the tent. 00:10:40.44\00:10:41.77 My brothers are in the field fighting a battle, 00:10:41.80\00:10:43.37 and they're all sleeping on the ground in the fields. 00:10:43.41\00:10:45.41 How can I in my right mind, 00:10:45.44\00:10:47.48 you know, just go back home 00:10:47.51\00:10:48.84 and lay with my wife, 00:10:48.88\00:10:50.21 and it was act like everything's not going on. 00:10:50.25\00:10:51.58 That's happening, we're in battle, we're in war. 00:10:51.61\00:10:53.62 I'm going to sleep at the Lord's house. 00:10:53.65\00:10:54.98 And so, that was number two, right? 00:10:55.02\00:10:57.59 Or that was actually number one. 00:10:57.62\00:10:58.95 Now he's gonna try his attempt number two. 00:10:58.99\00:11:00.52 Notice verse 12. 00:11:00.56\00:11:01.89 It says, 00:11:01.92\00:11:03.26 "Then David said to Uriah, 'Wait here today also, 00:11:03.29\00:11:04.99 and tomorrow I will let you depart.' 00:11:05.03\00:11:06.73 So Uriah remained in Jerusalem that day and the next. 00:11:06.76\00:11:10.23 Now when David called him, he ate, he drank before him, 00:11:10.27\00:11:14.00 and he made him drunk." 00:11:14.04\00:11:15.60 So get this, I'm going to make him drunk. 00:11:15.64\00:11:17.21 "And at evening he went out to lie on his bed 00:11:17.24\00:11:19.54 with the servants of his lord, 00:11:19.57\00:11:20.91 but he did not go down to his house." 00:11:20.94\00:11:23.88 So I'm going to try to make this brother drunk. 00:11:23.91\00:11:25.51 This is going to be his second attempt here now 00:11:25.55\00:11:28.28 to try to cause Uriah to fall back, 00:11:28.32\00:11:31.55 you know, and so he can kind of just brush over the sin. 00:11:31.59\00:11:34.36 Again, David's not thinking right. Why? 00:11:34.39\00:11:36.12 Because he's no longer resting 00:11:36.16\00:11:38.19 in that gracious relationship with God. 00:11:38.23\00:11:41.03 He has succumbed to sin. 00:11:41.06\00:11:42.50 And so now we go into verse 14, it says, 00:11:42.53\00:11:44.87 "In the morning it happened 00:11:44.90\00:11:46.23 that David wrote a letter to Joab 00:11:46.27\00:11:47.87 and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 00:11:47.90\00:11:50.41 And he wrote in the letter, saying, 00:11:50.44\00:11:52.57 'Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, 00:11:52.61\00:11:54.98 and retreat from him, 00:11:55.01\00:11:56.34 that he may be struck down and die.' 00:11:56.38\00:11:58.98 So it was that while Joab besieged the city, 00:11:59.01\00:12:01.75 that he assigned Uriah 00:12:01.78\00:12:03.12 to a place where he knew there were valiant men. 00:12:03.15\00:12:06.62 And when the men of the city came out and fought with Joab. 00:12:06.65\00:12:09.42 And some of the people of the servants of David fell, 00:12:09.46\00:12:12.19 and Uriah the Hittite died also." 00:12:12.23\00:12:15.16 So when you think this story 00:12:15.20\00:12:16.53 could get any more twisted, right? 00:12:16.56\00:12:17.97 David's like, look, you know, I'm gonna send a letter 00:12:18.00\00:12:19.73 and he sends the letter 00:12:19.77\00:12:21.10 by the very person that he's plotting against. 00:12:21.14\00:12:23.20 This brother's carrying his death sentence, 00:12:23.24\00:12:25.17 and doesn't realize it. 00:12:25.21\00:12:26.54 But again, this is the idea, my friends, 00:12:26.57\00:12:28.84 this is what sin does to you, when you entertain sin, 00:12:28.88\00:12:33.55 and you entertain the temptations of the enemy. 00:12:33.58\00:12:36.25 This is exactly, even powerful men, 00:12:36.28\00:12:38.45 mighty men or righteous men, 00:12:38.49\00:12:40.46 and in this case of David can fall in this case, 00:12:40.49\00:12:43.22 and that's exactly what we're seeing here. 00:12:43.26\00:12:45.19 And so the Bible goes on to say in verse 18, 00:12:45.23\00:12:47.73 actually let's going down to verse 22. 00:12:47.76\00:12:49.46 It says, "So the messenger went, 00:12:49.50\00:12:50.83 and came and told David 00:12:50.87\00:12:52.23 all that Joab had sent by him." 00:12:52.27\00:12:54.77 So they returned to give him the report." 00:12:54.80\00:12:56.64 And the messenger said to David, 00:12:56.67\00:12:58.01 'Surely the men prevailed against us 00:12:58.04\00:12:59.77 and came out to us in the field, 00:12:59.81\00:13:01.54 but we drove them back 00:13:01.58\00:13:02.91 as far as the entrance of the gate. 00:13:02.94\00:13:04.35 The archers shot from the wall at your servants, 00:13:04.38\00:13:06.48 and some of the king's servants are dead, 00:13:06.51\00:13:08.58 and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.'" 00:13:08.62\00:13:13.15 And it's interesting David's response, again, 00:13:13.19\00:13:15.22 not thinking clearly. 00:13:15.26\00:13:17.16 He's almost like he gives him like this pat on the back, 00:13:17.19\00:13:19.09 says, there, there, everything's gonna be okay 00:13:19.13\00:13:21.26 because he responds with in verse 25, 00:13:21.30\00:13:23.77 "Thus you shall say to Joab: 00:13:23.80\00:13:25.13 'Do not let this thing displease you, 00:13:25.17\00:13:27.37 for the sword devours one as well as another. 00:13:27.40\00:13:29.40 Strengthen your attack against the city, 00:13:29.44\00:13:31.11 and overthrow it.' 00:13:31.14\00:13:32.47 So encourage him.'" 00:13:32.51\00:13:34.24 We look through all of this and we see 00:13:34.28\00:13:36.78 that because David was, again, 00:13:36.81\00:13:39.21 not in the field where he should have been, 00:13:39.25\00:13:41.12 but he was resting back home. 00:13:41.15\00:13:43.69 It caused him to fall from the spiritual rest 00:13:43.72\00:13:46.32 that he had in Christ. 00:13:46.35\00:13:47.76 And now he has committed this horrible sin, 00:13:47.79\00:13:49.76 again, just created this snowball effect, 00:13:49.79\00:13:51.86 one thing after another of David not thinking clearly, 00:13:51.89\00:13:54.93 and him making decisions 00:13:54.96\00:13:56.70 that would ultimately cost him to a great degree. 00:13:56.73\00:14:00.10 And so in this case, 00:14:00.14\00:14:01.54 and I love a note that I made here. 00:14:01.57\00:14:03.47 It says, 00:14:03.51\00:14:04.84 "Oftentimes our rest can lead to decisions and behaviors 00:14:04.87\00:14:07.08 that displeases the Lord and sometimes. 00:14:07.11\00:14:09.28 Let us always remain connected to the vine, 00:14:09.31\00:14:11.61 examining ourselves in the Lord, 00:14:11.65\00:14:13.82 and make sure that we know when it is time to rest." 00:14:13.85\00:14:17.22 In this case, we need to make sure 00:14:17.25\00:14:18.59 we're always resting in Jesus Christ. 00:14:18.62\00:14:20.66 So how is David going to bring himself back 00:14:20.69\00:14:23.83 in harmony with Jesus Christ? 00:14:23.86\00:14:25.59 Well, the rest of the story is going to come, 00:14:25.63\00:14:27.36 and I'm going to kick it 00:14:27.40\00:14:28.73 to Pastor Lomacang at this time. 00:14:28.76\00:14:30.10 Well, you lay the foundation beautifully. 00:14:30.13\00:14:31.47 This is an amazing story, 00:14:31.50\00:14:32.83 a heart wrenching story about David. 00:14:32.87\00:14:34.64 The man that God called that fell into sin, 00:14:34.67\00:14:37.27 tried to cover his transgression, 00:14:37.31\00:14:39.77 and then now he feels no one knows about it, 00:14:39.81\00:14:42.74 but God always has some way to get our attention. 00:14:42.78\00:14:45.91 Mine is entitled, Wake-Up Call. 00:14:45.95\00:14:49.48 And we go to 2 Samuel Chapter 12, 00:14:49.52\00:14:53.19 beginning with verse 1. 00:14:53.22\00:14:54.92 "Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. 00:14:54.96\00:14:57.63 And he came to him, and said to him: 00:14:57.66\00:14:59.33 'There were two men in one city.'" 00:14:59.36\00:15:00.70 And this is talking about how to communicate 00:15:00.73\00:15:02.33 in a parabolic way, 00:15:02.36\00:15:03.70 how to find a back door to a person's heart 00:15:03.73\00:15:06.07 that's full of authority, 00:15:06.10\00:15:08.27 because you can't come straight out and say to, 00:15:08.30\00:15:09.90 I know what you did. 00:15:09.94\00:15:11.67 Nathan knew David well. 00:15:11.71\00:15:13.78 He knew how to speak to David. 00:15:13.81\00:15:15.51 And the Lord gave him the skill of a man 00:15:15.54\00:15:18.18 who is familiar with David's heart, 00:15:18.21\00:15:20.35 but the fortitude and the integrity of a prophet 00:15:20.38\00:15:23.02 who had to tell David exactly what God wanted him to know. 00:15:23.05\00:15:26.49 So he used a parable, 00:15:26.52\00:15:27.86 and let's go and look at the parable that he uses. 00:15:27.89\00:15:30.73 "There were two men in one city," 00:15:30.76\00:15:32.23 I'm in 2 Samuel 12:1, 00:15:32.26\00:15:35.46 "one rich and the other poor." 00:15:35.50\00:15:36.83 Verse 2, 00:15:36.87\00:15:38.20 "The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. 00:15:38.23\00:15:39.93 But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb 00:15:39.97\00:15:43.07 which he had bought and nourished, 00:15:43.10\00:15:45.14 and it grew up together with him 00:15:45.17\00:15:46.68 and with his children. 00:15:46.71\00:15:48.04 It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup 00:15:48.08\00:15:51.81 and lay in his bosom, 00:15:51.85\00:15:53.18 and it was like a daughter to him. 00:15:53.21\00:15:54.75 And a traveler came to the rich man, 00:15:54.78\00:15:56.22 who refused to take from his own flock 00:15:56.25\00:15:58.82 and from his own herd 00:15:58.85\00:16:00.19 to prepare one of the wayfaring man 00:16:00.22\00:16:02.42 who had come to him, 00:16:02.46\00:16:03.79 but he took the poor man's lamb and presented it, 00:16:03.83\00:16:06.59 and prepared it 00:16:06.63\00:16:07.96 for the man who had come to him. 00:16:08.00\00:16:09.63 So David's anger was greatly aroused 00:16:09.66\00:16:11.97 against the man, 00:16:12.00\00:16:13.34 and he said to Nathan, 00:16:13.37\00:16:14.70 'As the Lord lives, 00:16:14.74\00:16:16.07 the man who has done this shall surely die! 00:16:16.10\00:16:18.11 And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb.'" 00:16:18.14\00:16:20.18 I could hear David now telling, 00:16:20.21\00:16:21.54 man, this is something terrible. 00:16:21.58\00:16:23.48 He is becoming righteous now by trying to cover his sin. 00:16:23.51\00:16:27.22 "Because he did this thing and because he had no pity. 00:16:27.25\00:16:30.52 Then Nathan said to David, boom, 00:16:30.55\00:16:33.82 'You are the man! 00:16:33.86\00:16:35.96 Thus says the Lord God of Israel: 00:16:35.99\00:16:37.83 'I anointed you king over Israel, 00:16:37.86\00:16:39.59 I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 00:16:39.63\00:16:41.80 I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 00:16:41.83\00:16:43.90 I gave you your master's house and your master's wives 00:16:43.93\00:16:47.00 into your keeping, 00:16:47.04\00:16:48.60 and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. 00:16:48.64\00:16:50.77 And if that had been too little, 00:16:50.81\00:16:52.67 I also would have given you much more! 00:16:52.71\00:16:55.08 Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord, 00:16:55.11\00:16:58.48 to do evil in His sight?'" 00:16:58.51\00:17:01.05 And then he repeats what, 00:17:01.08\00:17:02.75 what Ryan brought out very carefully. 00:17:02.78\00:17:04.75 He plotted the death of Uriah, Bathsheba's husband, 00:17:04.79\00:17:10.53 and it didn't, you know, you didn't get to this part. 00:17:10.56\00:17:12.56 But if you look at 2 Samuel 11:26, it says, 00:17:12.59\00:17:16.46 "When the wife of Uriah heard 00:17:16.50\00:17:18.63 that Uriah her husband was dead, 00:17:18.67\00:17:20.80 she mourned for her husband." 00:17:20.84\00:17:22.90 What did David do? 00:17:22.94\00:17:24.27 Verse 27, 00:17:24.31\00:17:25.64 "And when her mourning was over, 00:17:25.67\00:17:27.01 David sent and brought her to his house, 00:17:27.04\00:17:28.61 and she became his wife and bore him a son. 00:17:28.64\00:17:31.11 But the thing that David had done 00:17:31.15\00:17:33.15 displeased the Lord." 00:17:33.18\00:17:34.52 That's right. Yes. 00:17:34.55\00:17:35.88 You know, there is sin, and there's reckoning. 00:17:35.92\00:17:38.05 And we're going to now begin to look at 00:17:38.09\00:17:40.92 not only what happened, 00:17:40.96\00:17:43.43 but what happened to David prior, 00:17:43.46\00:17:47.00 and what happened to David afterward. 00:17:47.03\00:17:48.83 Now, David was a man 00:17:48.86\00:17:50.20 who sought to hide his own transgression. 00:17:50.23\00:17:52.03 He sought to do it legitimately. 00:17:52.07\00:17:54.40 He sought to do it legislatively. 00:17:54.44\00:17:57.21 He sought to do it with power in his hand, 00:17:57.24\00:17:59.44 but there's one mightier than all of us, 00:17:59.47\00:18:02.54 who brings us to accountability. 00:18:02.58\00:18:04.35 And this is so vitally important 00:18:04.38\00:18:05.75 because you know that 00:18:05.78\00:18:07.78 the precursors to any kind of repentance 00:18:07.82\00:18:11.79 is you've got to really be sorrowful for that sin. 00:18:11.82\00:18:15.42 You can't find deliverance from sin by saying, 00:18:15.46\00:18:18.56 you know, Shelley, I apologize. 00:18:18.59\00:18:20.10 Hope that's good enough. 00:18:20.13\00:18:21.90 And some people say things like, 00:18:21.93\00:18:24.23 well, if I offended you, I'm really sorry that I did. 00:18:24.27\00:18:28.00 David had no corner, 00:18:28.04\00:18:29.70 God had taken all the corners in his life 00:18:29.74\00:18:32.24 and lit them up. 00:18:32.27\00:18:33.68 And he had to now come to accountability. 00:18:33.71\00:18:35.71 This is where now we go to Psalm Chapter 51. 00:18:35.74\00:18:39.51 I want to bring out three points 00:18:39.55\00:18:40.88 before we go to Psalm 51 00:18:40.92\00:18:42.25 about sin, what sin does. 00:18:42.28\00:18:44.69 Because you notice what Nathan said, 00:18:44.72\00:18:46.29 Nathan talked about 00:18:46.32\00:18:47.66 not just the taking of Uriah's life, 00:18:47.69\00:18:50.46 and the stealing of Uriah's wife 00:18:50.49\00:18:51.86 and impregnating her 00:18:51.89\00:18:53.23 but he said, this thing displeased the Lord. 00:18:53.26\00:18:57.90 First and foremost, all sin is a sin against God. 00:18:57.93\00:19:03.84 Go back to Joseph, what he said? 00:19:03.87\00:19:05.47 How can I do this great wickedness 00:19:05.51\00:19:07.21 and sin against God? 00:19:07.24\00:19:08.81 Why is all sin a sin against God? 00:19:08.84\00:19:12.58 Because the commandments are the commandments of God. 00:19:12.61\00:19:15.88 And when we violate the commandments of God, 00:19:15.92\00:19:17.82 we're transgressing against the character of God, 00:19:17.85\00:19:20.59 the standard set by God, 00:19:20.62\00:19:22.66 even though it injures individuals, 00:19:22.69\00:19:25.36 the one that is being offended directly 00:19:25.39\00:19:28.10 is the Lord who establishes the standard. 00:19:28.13\00:19:31.20 That's why the first thing, 00:19:31.23\00:19:32.70 if you love Me, keep My commandments, 00:19:32.73\00:19:34.27 but David chose not to do it. 00:19:34.30\00:19:35.77 So therefore was an offense. 00:19:35.80\00:19:37.14 Not only that injured Uriah and his wife, 00:19:37.17\00:19:39.64 and led to his death unfortunately, 00:19:39.67\00:19:42.28 but it was an injury directly against the God 00:19:42.31\00:19:45.41 who had placed him in that position. 00:19:45.45\00:19:47.55 And now God calls David to accountability. 00:19:47.58\00:19:50.52 Sin injures the family, 00:19:50.55\00:19:52.25 as well as sin injures 00:19:52.29\00:19:53.62 also could be broadly the church, the community. 00:19:53.66\00:19:57.09 James 5:16. 00:19:57.13\00:19:58.59 The Bible says, 00:19:58.63\00:19:59.96 "Confess your trespasses to one another," 00:20:00.00\00:20:02.40 but don't just do that, 00:20:02.43\00:20:04.33 "pray for one another, that you may be healed." 00:20:04.37\00:20:07.80 This is not private prayer. 00:20:07.84\00:20:09.44 And this that James is talking about here 00:20:09.47\00:20:12.47 is come to the person that you offended. 00:20:12.51\00:20:15.01 Go to the individual 00:20:15.04\00:20:16.38 that has been injured by your sin. 00:20:16.41\00:20:18.58 Confess to that individual 00:20:18.61\00:20:20.15 that in, that individual confesses to you, 00:20:20.18\00:20:22.58 if it's, it's a dual party transgression, 00:20:22.62\00:20:25.09 and then you pray for one another, 00:20:25.12\00:20:27.12 so that both of you can experience healing. 00:20:27.16\00:20:29.92 David needed not only forgiveness, 00:20:29.96\00:20:32.89 David needed something more than that. 00:20:32.93\00:20:34.33 Right. 00:20:34.36\00:20:35.70 And that's why the Bible says, 00:20:35.73\00:20:37.07 "The effective fervent prayer 00:20:37.10\00:20:38.43 of a righteous man avails much." 00:20:38.47\00:20:40.04 But also sin drives another nail 00:20:40.07\00:20:42.30 into the hand of Jesus. 00:20:42.34\00:20:43.87 We often don't see that. 00:20:43.91\00:20:45.24 Hebrews 6:4-6, 00:20:45.27\00:20:47.14 "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, 00:20:47.18\00:20:49.74 and have tasted the heavenly gift, 00:20:49.78\00:20:51.55 and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 00:20:51.58\00:20:53.72 and have tasted the good word of God 00:20:53.75\00:20:55.78 and the powers of the age to come, 00:20:55.82\00:20:57.19 if they fall away, 00:20:57.22\00:20:58.55 to renew them again to repentance, 00:20:58.59\00:21:00.66 since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, 00:21:00.69\00:21:03.99 and put Him to an open shame." 00:21:04.03\00:21:06.13 David's sin put God to an open shame. 00:21:06.16\00:21:09.63 Going on further, number five, or number four, sin separates. 00:21:09.66\00:21:13.10 Isaiah 59:2, 00:21:13.13\00:21:14.50 "But your iniquities 00:21:14.54\00:21:15.87 have separated you from your God, 00:21:15.90\00:21:17.81 and your sins have hidden His face from you, 00:21:17.84\00:21:19.61 so that He will not hear." 00:21:19.64\00:21:21.24 I know that if David said to the Lord, 00:21:21.28\00:21:23.04 "Okay, okay, I messed up. 00:21:23.08\00:21:24.98 We've got some battles coming up. 00:21:25.01\00:21:26.35 I just need some advice." 00:21:26.38\00:21:27.72 The Lord would have said, 00:21:27.75\00:21:29.08 "I ain't talking to you. Do not talk to me. 00:21:29.12\00:21:31.89 I'm not even listening to you. Get that thing right." 00:21:31.92\00:21:35.09 That's what the iniquity. 00:21:35.12\00:21:36.46 This wasn't just a momentary sin. 00:21:36.49\00:21:38.96 David, no pun intended, 00:21:38.99\00:21:42.66 conceived the sin and the sin itself conceived, 00:21:42.70\00:21:45.90 brought forth death, as James says, 00:21:45.93\00:21:48.70 planned the death, plotted the death, 00:21:48.74\00:21:50.94 perpetrated the death, 00:21:50.97\00:21:52.44 impregnated the man's wife, killed her husband, 00:21:52.47\00:21:55.68 this was not an incidental thing. 00:21:55.71\00:21:57.25 This became a sin of his heart, 00:21:57.28\00:21:58.85 a sin that took 00:21:58.88\00:22:00.22 all the components of the strength 00:22:00.25\00:22:02.65 that God had given to him 00:22:02.68\00:22:04.29 and lead him down a path of darkness. 00:22:04.32\00:22:06.09 And, you know, sometimes 00:22:06.12\00:22:07.46 you go down this path of darkness. 00:22:07.49\00:22:08.82 And when you get down the path, you say, "How did I get here?" 00:22:08.86\00:22:11.46 And you try to cover your sin, but you cannot do it. 00:22:11.49\00:22:13.86 So what are the remedies? 00:22:13.90\00:22:16.80 Acts 2:38. 00:22:16.83\00:22:18.83 The only few remedies. 00:22:18.87\00:22:20.20 That's good. That's right. 00:22:20.24\00:22:21.67 "Then Peter said to them," 00:22:21.70\00:22:23.07 and this applies to David, 00:22:23.10\00:22:24.97 "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized 00:22:25.01\00:22:29.04 in the name of Jesus Christ." 00:22:29.08\00:22:30.41 I'm going to focus on the part repent, 00:22:30.45\00:22:32.88 because without repentance, there is no forgiveness. 00:22:32.91\00:22:35.98 You know, if we confess our sins, 00:22:36.02\00:22:37.39 He is faithful and just to forgive 00:22:37.42\00:22:38.99 and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 00:22:39.02\00:22:41.09 But let me make a point here. 00:22:41.12\00:22:43.09 Repentance is not something 00:22:43.12\00:22:45.09 that happens outside of the presence of God 00:22:45.13\00:22:46.93 in a person's life, 00:22:46.96\00:22:48.60 because admittance and repentance 00:22:48.63\00:22:50.57 are not the same thing. 00:22:50.60\00:22:52.80 You look at this, 00:22:52.83\00:22:54.17 look at the situation with Judas. 00:22:54.20\00:22:56.91 He got caught. 00:22:56.94\00:22:58.27 I have betrayed the Son of God, but did he repent? 00:22:58.31\00:23:00.88 No. No. 00:23:00.91\00:23:02.24 And there is this what you call the lights on, I'm guilty. 00:23:02.28\00:23:05.68 Okay, I did it. 00:23:05.71\00:23:07.05 That is not repentance. 00:23:07.08\00:23:08.88 God will not restore David 00:23:08.92\00:23:11.59 until he came to the point of repentance. 00:23:11.62\00:23:14.06 Look at Psalm 51:1. 00:23:14.09\00:23:15.69 Look at what he asked, 00:23:15.72\00:23:17.06 and I'm going to transition to Shelley 00:23:17.09\00:23:18.43 because this is a story that unfolds continually. 00:23:18.46\00:23:20.80 And there's so many components. 00:23:20.83\00:23:22.86 What did David ask? 00:23:22.90\00:23:24.23 Psalm 51:1, 00:23:24.27\00:23:25.83 "Have mercy upon me, O God, 00:23:25.87\00:23:28.10 according to Your loving-kindness, 00:23:28.14\00:23:30.27 according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, 00:23:30.31\00:23:33.68 blot out my transgressions. 00:23:33.71\00:23:37.01 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, 00:23:37.05\00:23:40.58 and cleanse me from my sin." 00:23:40.62\00:23:42.38 Why? 00:23:42.42\00:23:43.75 "For I acknowledge my transgressions, 00:23:43.79\00:23:46.15 and my sin is ever before me. 00:23:46.19\00:23:48.86 Against You, You only, have I sinned, 00:23:48.89\00:23:51.06 and done this evil in Your sight 00:23:51.09\00:23:52.89 that You may be found just when You speak, 00:23:52.93\00:23:55.06 and blameless when You judge." 00:23:55.10\00:23:57.57 He said, I'm guilty. 00:23:57.60\00:23:58.93 I can't even argue with what I have done. 00:23:58.97\00:24:00.90 I can't even find a way 00:24:00.94\00:24:02.70 to even justly dismiss what I've done. 00:24:02.74\00:24:07.11 But let's go to 2 Corinthians 7:9-10. 00:24:07.14\00:24:09.81 Look at this. 00:24:09.84\00:24:11.18 How did David get to the point of repentance? 00:24:11.21\00:24:14.02 Listen to this. 00:24:14.05\00:24:15.48 2 Corinthians 7:9-10, 00:24:15.52\00:24:17.69 "Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, 00:24:17.72\00:24:21.79 but that your sorrow led to repentance. 00:24:21.82\00:24:24.96 For you were made sorry in a godly manner," 00:24:24.99\00:24:27.60 he asked for that, 00:24:27.63\00:24:28.96 "that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 00:24:29.00\00:24:32.13 For godly sorrow produces repentance 00:24:32.17\00:24:34.67 leading to salvation, 00:24:34.70\00:24:36.81 not to be regretted, 00:24:36.84\00:24:39.27 but the sorrow of the world produces death." 00:24:39.31\00:24:42.74 David could look back on a godly sorrow, 00:24:42.78\00:24:45.31 and a godly forgiveness, and a godly repentance. 00:24:45.35\00:24:48.45 And he could regret what he did. 00:24:48.48\00:24:50.32 But he can now rejoice 00:24:50.35\00:24:51.69 in the transgressions being forgiven, 00:24:51.72\00:24:53.56 and the Lord extending mercy to him. 00:24:53.59\00:24:55.86 Amen. Amen. 00:24:55.89\00:24:57.23 Thank you so much, Pastor, I appreciate that. 00:24:57.26\00:24:59.33 Folks, we're just getting started. 00:24:59.36\00:25:01.36 So we're gonna take a short break, 00:25:01.40\00:25:02.73 we'll be right back. 00:25:02.76\00:25:04.10 Amen. 00:25:04.13\00:25:05.47 Ever wish you could watch 00:25:09.70\00:25:11.04 a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel again, 00:25:43.04\00:25:44.97 for Tuesday's lesson. 00:25:45.01\00:25:46.34 Oh, thank you. 00:25:46.37\00:25:47.71 I love my topic for Tuesday, 00:25:47.74\00:25:50.31 it is Forgiven and Forgotten. 00:25:50.35\00:25:54.12 It's good. 00:25:54.15\00:25:56.05 We're going to continue in 2 Samuel Chapter 12. 00:25:56.08\00:26:00.69 Here, Nathan has come and told the story 00:26:00.72\00:26:03.96 and you know the king could have loft off his head. 00:26:03.99\00:26:06.86 But Nathan was so bold. 00:26:06.90\00:26:08.43 So when David hears 00:26:08.46\00:26:10.30 that this little ewe lamb was taken by a rich man 00:26:10.33\00:26:13.57 and says, off with his head, basically. 00:26:13.60\00:26:17.11 Do you know when Nathan said, "You are the man?" 00:26:17.14\00:26:21.74 He got David's attention. 00:26:21.78\00:26:23.11 Now, here's what I want to point out to you. 00:26:23.14\00:26:26.48 In 2 Samuel 12:13. 00:26:26.51\00:26:30.95 When Nathan told David, 00:26:30.99\00:26:33.72 "You're the man." 00:26:33.76\00:26:36.32 David says to Nathan, 00:26:36.36\00:26:38.46 "I have sinned against the Lord." 00:26:38.49\00:26:42.50 And Nathan said to David, 00:26:42.53\00:26:45.30 "The Lord has put away your sin, 00:26:45.33\00:26:48.44 you shall not die." 00:26:48.47\00:26:50.21 I propose to you that 00:26:50.24\00:26:52.74 this is such condensed history. 00:26:52.77\00:26:55.34 There's something that happened before Nathan's response. 00:26:55.38\00:27:00.18 And let me tell you why. 00:27:00.22\00:27:01.72 In 2 Samuel 12, 00:27:01.75\00:27:03.65 we're covering history in one chapter 00:27:03.69\00:27:06.82 that's about 18 months. 00:27:06.86\00:27:08.66 It goes through the first pregnancy 00:27:08.69\00:27:11.03 of Bathsheba. 00:27:11.06\00:27:12.39 It goes through the death of their child. 00:27:12.43\00:27:15.26 It goes through the second pregnancy 00:27:15.30\00:27:17.70 of Bathsheba. 00:27:17.73\00:27:19.73 And then the birth of Solomon 00:27:19.77\00:27:23.10 is announced in 2 Samuel 12:24. 00:27:23.14\00:27:26.44 So remember, this is a condensed history, 00:27:26.47\00:27:29.91 that's the thing and people miss sometimes 00:27:29.94\00:27:32.65 when they're reading the Bible. 00:27:32.68\00:27:34.75 So the repentant David from the time in 2 Samuel 12, 00:27:34.78\00:27:40.29 when he says, 00:27:40.32\00:27:41.66 "Oh, I've sinned against the Lord." 00:27:41.69\00:27:45.19 In Psalm 51:1-4, 00:27:45.23\00:27:50.37 here's the title of the song. 00:27:50.40\00:27:53.17 It says, the psalm of David, 00:27:53.20\00:27:56.91 when Nathan the prophet went to him 00:27:56.94\00:28:00.71 after he'd gone to Bathsheba. 00:28:00.74\00:28:03.61 So what I am suggesting is that David says, 00:28:03.65\00:28:07.85 "I have sinned against the Lord." 00:28:07.88\00:28:09.48 He's breathing. 00:28:09.52\00:28:10.85 He goes into Psalm 51, he repents, he's serious. 00:28:10.89\00:28:15.52 Then Nathan says to him, 00:28:15.56\00:28:18.19 "The Lord has put away your sin." 00:28:18.23\00:28:20.20 But let's read Psalm 51:1-4 again, 00:28:20.23\00:28:23.26 because, you know, 00:28:23.30\00:28:24.97 if you aren't sure how to confess your sin, 00:28:25.00\00:28:29.40 if you're feeling 00:28:29.44\00:28:31.87 kind of a separation between you and God, 00:28:31.91\00:28:35.14 I encourage you to get out your Bible 00:28:35.18\00:28:38.58 and read Psalm 51 out loud and pray it to the Lord. 00:28:38.61\00:28:44.49 And here's what he says, 00:28:44.52\00:28:46.42 "Have mercy on me, O God, 00:28:46.45\00:28:50.59 according to Your loving-kindness, 00:28:50.63\00:28:52.43 according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, 00:28:52.46\00:28:56.87 blot out my transgressions." 00:28:56.90\00:29:00.94 See, he knew that God blotted out sin, 00:29:00.97\00:29:05.34 that He covered sin with the blood of the Lamb. 00:29:05.37\00:29:09.01 David knew the plan of salvation. 00:29:09.04\00:29:11.48 Then listen to this. 00:29:11.51\00:29:12.85 He says, 00:29:12.88\00:29:14.22 "Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, 00:29:14.25\00:29:17.42 and cleanse me from my sin." 00:29:17.45\00:29:20.76 He knew that that lamb at the sanctuary 00:29:20.79\00:29:23.83 represented the coming Messiah, 00:29:23.86\00:29:27.86 by whose blood we would wash away our sins. 00:29:27.90\00:29:32.77 And then he says this, 00:29:32.80\00:29:34.60 "I acknowledge my transgressions, 00:29:34.64\00:29:38.64 my sin is always before me." 00:29:38.67\00:29:41.81 You know what? Confession? 00:29:41.84\00:29:44.91 1 John 1:9, 00:29:44.95\00:29:46.28 "If you confess your sins, 00:29:46.31\00:29:47.65 He's faithful and just to forgive your sins, 00:29:47.68\00:29:49.62 and cleanse you of all unrighteousness." 00:29:49.65\00:29:52.65 Confession is a clearing house of the conscience. 00:29:52.69\00:29:55.69 And then he says in verse 4, 00:29:55.72\00:29:58.33 "Against You, You only have I sinned." 00:29:58.36\00:30:01.86 You know, doesn't that remind you of Joseph 00:30:01.90\00:30:04.00 when Potiphar's wife 00:30:04.03\00:30:05.63 was trying to get him to lie with her. 00:30:05.67\00:30:09.14 And he said, 00:30:09.17\00:30:10.51 "How can I do this sin, commit adultery? 00:30:10.54\00:30:13.21 How could I do this sin against God?" 00:30:13.24\00:30:15.61 He didn't say against Potiphar, against you, against God. 00:30:15.64\00:30:19.45 So that's what David said, 00:30:19.48\00:30:20.82 "Against You, You only, have I sinned, 00:30:20.85\00:30:22.22 and done this evil in Your sight 00:30:22.25\00:30:23.75 that You may be found just when You speak, 00:30:23.79\00:30:27.92 and blameless when You judge." 00:30:27.96\00:30:30.06 So what does it mean 00:30:30.09\00:30:31.43 that God has taken away David's sin? 00:30:31.46\00:30:34.13 Did He just wipe the slate clean? 00:30:34.16\00:30:36.90 Did He simply forget about it? 00:30:36.93\00:30:39.73 David's confession of sin was immediate. 00:30:39.77\00:30:43.61 He did not try to rationalize with God. 00:30:43.64\00:30:49.41 He didn't justify his sin. 00:30:49.44\00:30:51.75 He knew his sin was horrible. 00:30:51.78\00:30:55.68 And not only had he committed adultery, 00:30:55.72\00:30:58.22 guilty of murder, manipulation, 00:30:58.25\00:31:00.82 man, I'll tell you could probably list 00:31:00.86\00:31:02.99 about five commandments that he'd broken, 00:31:03.02\00:31:05.56 but what does James say, break one, break them all. 00:31:05.59\00:31:08.46 So he was very guilty. 00:31:08.50\00:31:11.20 And his main plea, of course, was to cleanse me. 00:31:11.23\00:31:16.60 He had wronged, don't get this. Don't get me wrong. 00:31:16.64\00:31:20.14 He had wronged Uriah. He had wronged Bathsheba. 00:31:20.18\00:31:24.98 But ultimately, his sin was against God's holy law 00:31:25.01\00:31:30.79 and therefore against God's character. 00:31:30.82\00:31:36.19 When Nathan said that Lord has put away your sin, 00:31:36.22\00:31:39.09 you shall not die. 00:31:39.13\00:31:40.70 Do you realize justice demanded David's death? 00:31:40.73\00:31:44.07 But God showed him mercy by spearing his life. 00:31:47.20\00:31:51.47 Still, God has to protect 00:31:51.51\00:31:56.68 His reputation. 00:31:56.71\00:31:58.51 So sin had to be judged. 00:31:58.55\00:32:02.25 And Bathsheba's baby, 00:32:02.28\00:32:04.92 their first union would die. 00:32:04.95\00:32:09.19 Forgiveness of sin doesn't always remove 00:32:09.22\00:32:12.23 the consequences of sin. 00:32:12.26\00:32:15.46 Only in the lifetime to come will that happen. 00:32:15.50\00:32:19.80 And since David had violently had Uriah killed, 00:32:19.83\00:32:25.64 his own house 00:32:25.67\00:32:27.21 was to continually be plagued by violence. 00:32:27.24\00:32:30.98 His son Amnon, raped his own sister, Tamar. 00:32:31.01\00:32:36.52 Absalom murdered Amnon. 00:32:36.55\00:32:40.02 Adonijah rebelled against his father. 00:32:40.06\00:32:43.16 So for David, he suffered the consequences of sin 00:32:43.19\00:32:47.33 even though he had God's love. 00:32:47.36\00:32:49.96 Now this is interesting. 00:32:50.00\00:32:51.37 In 1 Kings 14:8. 00:32:51.40\00:32:57.37 God tells the prophet 00:32:57.41\00:33:00.04 to tell the wife of Jeroboam, the king, 00:33:00.08\00:33:03.28 who is, she's come to him all clothed in disguise, 00:33:03.31\00:33:07.78 trying to find out 00:33:07.82\00:33:09.15 what's going to happen with her husband. 00:33:09.18\00:33:11.55 And in 1 Kings 14:8, 00:33:11.59\00:33:13.46 this is after, after David had died. 00:33:13.49\00:33:18.33 God says, 00:33:18.36\00:33:20.86 "Go tell Jeroboam, 00:33:20.90\00:33:22.43 you have not been like my servant, David, 00:33:22.46\00:33:27.44 who kept My commandments, 00:33:27.47\00:33:30.67 and who followed Me with all of his heart 00:33:30.71\00:33:34.78 to only do what is right in My eyes." 00:33:34.81\00:33:40.42 What? 00:33:40.45\00:33:41.78 We just got through his sin. 00:33:41.82\00:33:43.55 He's guilty of adultery, he's guilty of murder. 00:33:43.59\00:33:47.29 He's broken these commandments. 00:33:47.32\00:33:49.76 But God says, 00:33:49.79\00:33:51.69 "David did only, he kept all My commandments, 00:33:51.73\00:33:56.23 did only what was right in My eyes." 00:33:56.26\00:33:58.50 To me, this absolutely proves 00:33:58.53\00:34:01.00 that God forgets what we ask Him to forgive. 00:34:01.04\00:34:03.81 But let me explain this. 00:34:03.84\00:34:06.24 In the Bible when it says, God remembers something. 00:34:06.27\00:34:11.01 It's not that He forgot it. 00:34:11.05\00:34:13.05 And oh, yeah, I forgot about that 00:34:13.08\00:34:15.32 like in Exodus 2:24, 00:34:15.35\00:34:17.95 when He hears the cries 00:34:17.99\00:34:19.62 of the Hebrew children, it says, 00:34:19.65\00:34:21.66 "Oh, and God remembered His covenant 00:34:21.69\00:34:23.79 with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." 00:34:23.83\00:34:26.13 It didn't mean that God goes, 00:34:26.16\00:34:27.66 "Oh, yeah. 00:34:27.70\00:34:29.26 I think I made those covenant promises." 00:34:29.30\00:34:31.63 You know, see, 00:34:31.67\00:34:33.54 when the Bible says that God remembers, 00:34:33.57\00:34:37.24 it means He's going to take action. 00:34:37.27\00:34:39.14 It's good. 00:34:39.17\00:34:40.51 When the Bible says that God forgets, 00:34:40.54\00:34:42.78 it means He's not taking any action. 00:34:42.81\00:34:45.65 So He, Isaiah 43:25, God says, 00:34:45.68\00:34:51.25 "I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions," 00:34:51.29\00:34:54.99 He covered it with the blood. 00:34:55.02\00:34:57.43 And He said, "I've done it for My own sake." 00:34:57.46\00:35:00.16 I don't want to think on it. 00:35:00.20\00:35:01.56 He says, "I will not remember your sins." 00:35:01.60\00:35:05.37 In other words, I'm not gonna act on it. 00:35:05.40\00:35:07.87 Now this is interesting. 00:35:07.90\00:35:09.70 In 1 Kings, just one chapter, after God has spoken this. 00:35:09.74\00:35:14.28 And you know that, boy, the scribe has, 00:35:14.31\00:35:16.64 I mean, this is exactly as God quoted it. 00:35:16.68\00:35:20.38 But now, as the author of 1 Kings 00:35:20.42\00:35:25.15 is pulling it all together and summarizing, 00:35:25.19\00:35:28.72 he says this, 00:35:28.76\00:35:31.29 "Because David did 00:35:31.33\00:35:32.66 what was right in the eyes of the Lord, 00:35:32.69\00:35:34.53 and had not turned aside 00:35:34.56\00:35:37.07 from anything that He commanded him 00:35:37.10\00:35:38.87 all the days of his life, 00:35:38.90\00:35:40.84 except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite." 00:35:40.87\00:35:46.54 See, God's not trying to cover 00:35:46.57\00:35:50.05 the record of our sin from the world. 00:35:50.08\00:35:53.25 It doesn't mean your reputation 00:35:53.28\00:35:54.78 is going to be restored right away. 00:35:54.82\00:35:57.09 But God will blot out your transgression. 00:35:57.12\00:36:00.62 Amen. Thank you so much, Shelley. 00:36:00.66\00:36:02.66 Each one of you a powerful story, 00:36:02.69\00:36:04.66 powerful lesson, 00:36:04.69\00:36:06.29 to me incredible hope that each one of us have. 00:36:06.33\00:36:10.23 We're going back to Psalm 51. 00:36:10.27\00:36:12.23 I have six verses here. 00:36:12.27\00:36:14.20 We're in Psalm 51. 00:36:14.24\00:36:15.57 We're gonna look at verses 7 through 12. 00:36:15.60\00:36:18.51 You know, if you're reading through the Book of Psalms, 00:36:18.54\00:36:20.88 and I love the Book of Psalms. 00:36:20.91\00:36:22.78 When we get to Psalm 51, 00:36:22.81\00:36:24.38 this is the fourth 00:36:24.41\00:36:26.72 and the best known of the, 00:36:26.75\00:36:28.95 what we call the penitential psalms 00:36:28.98\00:36:31.39 in the Book of Psalms. 00:36:31.42\00:36:32.75 Just meaning, this is confession of sin. 00:36:32.79\00:36:34.59 This David's confession of sin 00:36:34.62\00:36:37.43 is probably unmatched in Scripture, 00:36:37.46\00:36:40.16 if you go through and you read them. 00:36:40.20\00:36:43.16 Interestingly, this verses 7 through 12, 00:36:43.20\00:36:46.13 which is my portion, 00:36:46.17\00:36:47.50 it parallels the New Covenant experience 00:36:47.54\00:36:51.27 that we find in Ezekiel Chapter 36. 00:36:51.31\00:36:54.51 Ezekiel promises cleansing. 00:36:54.54\00:36:56.71 David asks for cleansing. 00:36:56.75\00:36:59.71 Ezekiel promises a new heart. 00:36:59.75\00:37:02.38 David asks for a pure heart. 00:37:02.42\00:37:05.62 Ezekiel promises a new spirit. 00:37:05.65\00:37:08.56 David asks for a steadfast spirit. 00:37:08.59\00:37:13.46 So I told you at the beginning, 00:37:13.50\00:37:14.90 there are seven experiences 00:37:14.93\00:37:17.77 that you and I can have as Christians 00:37:17.80\00:37:20.07 following confession. 00:37:20.10\00:37:21.50 Shelley did an incredible job 00:37:21.54\00:37:23.10 talking about that confession of sin, 00:37:23.14\00:37:26.24 repentance, asking for forgiveness, 00:37:26.27\00:37:29.01 and we have the seven experiences. 00:37:29.04\00:37:30.78 I'm going to give you the seven, 00:37:30.81\00:37:32.15 and then we'll go back and unpack them. 00:37:32.18\00:37:34.02 Number one is cleansing from sin. 00:37:34.05\00:37:36.18 Number two is assurance of forgiveness and salvation. 00:37:36.22\00:37:41.02 Number three is joy in Jesus. 00:37:41.06\00:37:44.83 Number four is recreation. 00:37:44.86\00:37:47.76 Number five is renewal. 00:37:47.80\00:37:50.27 Number six is experiencing Christ's presence. 00:37:50.30\00:37:54.84 And number seven is victory 00:37:54.87\00:37:56.34 that comes from the Holy Spirit. 00:37:56.37\00:37:58.21 So let's look at those seven. We have cleansing from sin. 00:37:58.24\00:38:00.38 We're in Psalm 51:7. 00:38:00.41\00:38:02.51 David's pouring out his heart before God. 00:38:02.54\00:38:05.28 "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean, 00:38:05.31\00:38:08.42 wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." 00:38:08.45\00:38:12.09 That word purge literally means un-sin me. 00:38:12.12\00:38:17.46 Do you want to be un-sinned? 00:38:17.49\00:38:18.93 Do you want it to be like that sin 00:38:18.96\00:38:21.80 does not exist, and that... 00:38:21.83\00:38:24.60 It's like as if you had never sinned? 00:38:24.63\00:38:27.10 Un-sin me with hyssop. 00:38:27.14\00:38:30.14 Hyssop, of course, was the plant 00:38:30.17\00:38:32.04 that they used in cleansing rituals 00:38:32.07\00:38:34.18 in the sanctuary service. 00:38:34.21\00:38:35.98 A bunch of hyssop would be dipped in blood 00:38:36.01\00:38:39.18 and applied for that sin. 00:38:39.21\00:38:40.85 It reminds me of Isaiah 1:18. 00:38:40.88\00:38:43.28 God is speaking, 00:38:43.32\00:38:44.65 "'Come now, and let us reason together,' 00:38:44.69\00:38:46.69 says the Lord. 00:38:46.72\00:38:48.06 Though your sins are like scarlet, 00:38:48.09\00:38:49.42 they shall be white as snow, 00:38:49.46\00:38:51.69 though they are red like crimson, 00:38:51.73\00:38:53.90 they shall be as wool." 00:38:53.93\00:38:56.30 The blood of Jesus cleanses our scarlet sins, 00:38:56.33\00:39:00.34 and it turns it white. 00:39:00.37\00:39:01.70 I didn't even understand that 00:39:01.74\00:39:03.07 how the red blood of Jesus 00:39:03.10\00:39:04.64 turns my red sin turns it white. 00:39:04.67\00:39:07.38 I love that. 00:39:07.41\00:39:08.74 And if you look at the Book of Hebrews, 00:39:08.78\00:39:10.28 Hebrews Chapter 9. 00:39:10.31\00:39:11.91 There's this whole concept of Hebrews 9:12-14, 00:39:11.95\00:39:15.38 "It's not the blood of goats and bulls or calves, 00:39:15.42\00:39:18.55 but with His own blood 00:39:18.59\00:39:21.36 He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, 00:39:21.39\00:39:24.89 having obtained eternal redemption. 00:39:24.93\00:39:28.50 For if the blood of bulls and goats 00:39:28.53\00:39:29.86 and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, 00:39:29.90\00:39:32.17 sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 00:39:32.20\00:39:35.00 how much more shall the blood of Christ, 00:39:35.04\00:39:38.17 who through the eternal Spirit 00:39:38.21\00:39:40.41 offered Himself without spot to God, 00:39:40.44\00:39:42.78 cleanse your conscience from dead works 00:39:42.81\00:39:45.91 to serve the living God?" 00:39:45.95\00:39:48.35 So do you want to be un-sinned? 00:39:48.38\00:39:50.19 "Purge me with hyssop, 00:39:50.22\00:39:51.69 and I shall be clean, 00:39:51.72\00:39:53.86 wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." 00:39:53.89\00:39:56.66 Experience number two 00:39:56.69\00:39:58.19 is the assurance of forgiveness and salvation. 00:39:58.23\00:40:02.56 We're in Psalm 51, 00:40:02.60\00:40:03.93 we're going to jump forward a couple verses to verse 12. 00:40:03.97\00:40:07.17 "Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, 00:40:07.20\00:40:11.87 and uphold me by Your generous Spirit." 00:40:11.91\00:40:15.18 Do you have confidence in your salvation? 00:40:15.21\00:40:17.61 Do you have assurance 00:40:17.65\00:40:19.21 that if you died today, 00:40:19.25\00:40:22.68 you will be in the kingdom of heaven 00:40:22.72\00:40:24.75 when Jesus comes again? 00:40:24.79\00:40:26.25 Do you have that assurance? 00:40:26.29\00:40:27.92 I lived years of my life 00:40:27.96\00:40:29.96 not knowing would I be saved or lost? 00:40:29.99\00:40:32.59 Would I be good enough for God to accept? 00:40:32.63\00:40:35.23 I know there are many Christians 00:40:35.26\00:40:37.10 of many different denominations 00:40:37.13\00:40:40.04 who do not have assurance of salvation. 00:40:40.07\00:40:44.17 Sometimes we feel unsure because we know we're guilty. 00:40:44.21\00:40:47.61 And we clearly know that we need to be forgiven. 00:40:47.64\00:40:50.81 Sometimes we feel unsure, 00:40:50.85\00:40:52.48 because we don't understand Scripture, 00:40:52.51\00:40:55.05 or the fact that we're saved by grace through faith. 00:40:55.08\00:40:57.52 And we think somehow 00:40:57.55\00:40:58.89 we have to work harder or be better, 00:40:58.92\00:41:01.32 or do something to merit God's favor. 00:41:01.36\00:41:05.06 Sometimes that might be because 00:41:05.09\00:41:06.53 we can't point to a specific time in the past. 00:41:06.56\00:41:09.26 This is when I accepted Jesus. 00:41:09.30\00:41:11.23 And it was a gradual experience. 00:41:11.27\00:41:13.20 And so we say, maybe I'm not saved, 00:41:13.23\00:41:15.54 because I can't identify a specific moment. 00:41:15.57\00:41:18.97 Sometimes it's because we just walk by how we feel, 00:41:19.01\00:41:21.84 instead of by faith, and what the Word of God says. 00:41:21.88\00:41:25.01 What does the Word of God say? 00:41:25.05\00:41:26.45 Ephesians 2:8-9, 00:41:26.48\00:41:27.82 "By grace you have been saved through faith, 00:41:27.85\00:41:31.25 and that not of yourselves, it's the gift of God, 00:41:31.29\00:41:33.32 not of works, lest anyone should boast." 00:41:33.36\00:41:36.39 You see, we are saved by grace through faith. 00:41:36.42\00:41:39.29 We're not saved by works. 00:41:39.33\00:41:40.66 We're not saved by feeling. 00:41:40.70\00:41:43.10 We are saved by the blood of Jesus, 00:41:43.13\00:41:45.90 by grace exercise through that faith. 00:41:45.93\00:41:49.60 I love 1 John 5:11-13, 00:41:49.64\00:41:53.84 "This is the testimony: 00:41:53.88\00:41:55.48 that God has given us eternal life, 00:41:55.51\00:41:57.98 and this life is in His Son. 00:41:58.01\00:42:00.78 He who has the Son has life, 00:42:00.82\00:42:03.42 he who does not have the Son does not have life. 00:42:03.45\00:42:06.55 These things I have written to you 00:42:06.59\00:42:07.92 who believe in the name of the Son of God, 00:42:07.96\00:42:09.92 that you may know that you have eternal life." 00:42:09.96\00:42:12.96 What does that say? 00:42:12.99\00:42:14.33 That says to me that 00:42:14.36\00:42:15.70 God wants us to have assurance of our salvation. 00:42:15.73\00:42:18.83 Amen. Amen. That's right. 00:42:18.87\00:42:20.20 Yes. 00:42:20.24\00:42:21.57 Experience number three, joy in Jesus. 00:42:21.60\00:42:24.61 Psalm 51, we're going back to Psalm 51. 00:42:24.64\00:42:26.78 Let's look at verse 8. 00:42:26.81\00:42:28.48 Make me, David's praying. 00:42:28.51\00:42:30.35 "Make me hear joy and gladness, 00:42:30.38\00:42:33.52 that the bones You have broken may rejoice." 00:42:33.55\00:42:38.22 Joy and gladness, 00:42:38.25\00:42:39.59 that word joy in the Hebrew means exaltation, 00:42:39.62\00:42:43.39 great rejoicing. 00:42:43.43\00:42:46.09 Make me hear joy and gladness. 00:42:46.13\00:42:48.70 It's interesting to me. 00:42:48.73\00:42:50.07 David does not ask to be comforted 00:42:50.10\00:42:53.54 until he's cleansed. 00:42:53.57\00:42:54.90 Do you notice that? 00:42:54.94\00:42:56.27 The purging with hyssop happens first, 00:42:56.30\00:42:59.51 then the joy and rejoicing comes after the cleansing. 00:42:59.54\00:43:04.45 You know, so many times we want peace in our heart, 00:43:04.48\00:43:09.02 we want freedom, we want deliverance, 00:43:09.05\00:43:12.32 but we are not willing to take the steps 00:43:12.35\00:43:15.56 that are necessary to achieve that peace. 00:43:15.59\00:43:18.19 We say, "God, would You give me peace in my sin?" 00:43:18.23\00:43:20.33 That's not gonna work. Amen. 00:48:08.65\00:48:09.98 It's all about Jesus in it. 00:48:10.02\00:48:11.45 Psalms 51:13. Just look at that. 00:48:11.49\00:48:13.59 What we're gonna do is 00:48:13.62\00:48:14.96 kind of go over a few of these verses here. 00:48:14.99\00:48:16.73 Psalms 51:13- 18. 00:48:16.76\00:48:19.33 We see what David wanted to do in his painful experience. 00:48:19.36\00:48:23.57 Here's what he did. 00:48:23.60\00:48:24.93 And there's a reason for what he certainly had, 00:48:24.97\00:48:26.30 what he did 00:48:26.33\00:48:27.67 and how he's explaining it to us. 00:48:27.70\00:48:29.24 And because, you know, 00:48:29.27\00:48:30.71 we're going to go through some of those things. 00:48:30.74\00:48:32.67 Psalm 51:13, says, notice, 00:48:32.71\00:48:35.04 "Then will I teach transgressors Thy ways, 00:48:35.08\00:48:38.68 and sinners shall be converted unto Thee." 00:48:38.71\00:48:42.18 Most powerful, powerful words. 00:48:42.22\00:48:44.59 So what does David do 00:48:44.62\00:48:45.95 as he realizes what's happening, 00:48:45.99\00:48:47.32 what's taking place, he's making changes, 00:48:47.36\00:48:48.72 he promises to teach. 00:48:48.76\00:48:51.09 Maybe that's what we should all be doing. 00:48:51.13\00:48:52.49 We should promise because God has forgiven us, right? 00:48:52.53\00:48:54.66 And that we should promise to try to teach others 00:48:54.70\00:48:56.60 or maybe lead in those many experiences, 00:48:56.63\00:48:59.30 some of the things that we've went through, 00:48:59.33\00:49:01.34 and he's going to teach the transgressors God's way. 00:49:01.37\00:49:05.44 I think that's very, very important. 00:49:05.47\00:49:07.41 David had been a transgressor. 00:49:07.44\00:49:09.81 There's no doubt about it. 00:49:09.84\00:49:11.48 Now he wants to use 00:49:11.51\00:49:12.98 as we read here, his experience, as an example. 00:49:13.01\00:49:16.89 And because he found mercy with God, 00:49:16.92\00:49:19.05 and certainly when you found mercy with God, 00:49:19.09\00:49:20.46 when you've been down that road, 00:49:20.49\00:49:21.82 sometimes it's easier to explain it to other folks. 00:49:21.86\00:49:24.06 I've been there, that's happened is done, 00:49:24.09\00:49:26.13 and God's goodness to each and every one of us. 00:49:26.16\00:49:29.40 And he say simply, 00:49:29.43\00:49:30.77 if you want to know how 00:49:30.80\00:49:32.13 do it the same way that I did it, 00:49:32.17\00:49:33.84 humble yourself, confess your sin, 00:49:33.87\00:49:35.74 seek God's face. 00:49:35.77\00:49:37.41 And God is always willing. 00:49:37.44\00:49:38.77 I love that, always to take us back into the fold. 00:49:38.81\00:49:41.51 And true forgiveness 00:49:41.54\00:49:42.91 as He reaches though we never sinned, 00:49:42.94\00:49:44.45 that's been brought out. 00:49:44.48\00:49:45.81 That's, I mean, that's so wonderful. 00:49:45.85\00:49:47.18 And then the Bible says that God loves us, right? 00:49:47.22\00:49:49.35 He loves us as He loves His own Son. 00:49:49.38\00:49:51.59 I still haven't gotten my mind around that 00:49:51.62\00:49:53.32 just yet, but I love it. 00:49:53.36\00:49:54.86 I love to hear it, and I'm encouraged by that. 00:49:54.89\00:49:57.76 Psalm 51:14, he simply cries out again, 00:49:57.79\00:50:00.53 "Deliver me from blood guiltless, O God, 00:50:00.56\00:50:04.60 the God of my," what? 00:50:04.63\00:50:05.97 "Salvation. 00:50:06.00\00:50:07.57 And my tongue shall sing aloud of Thy righteousness." 00:50:07.60\00:50:11.31 David felt the guilt of sin. 00:50:11.34\00:50:14.68 And if you've ever fallen deep enough into 00:50:14.71\00:50:16.38 and you feel the guilt of sin, 00:50:16.41\00:50:18.85 it becomes too heavy. 00:50:18.88\00:50:20.22 And there comes a time you say, I can't continue on this way, 00:50:20.25\00:50:23.55 I need God to help me. 00:50:23.59\00:50:24.92 It was... He wanted so much to be delivered 00:50:24.95\00:50:28.06 and to be set free from it. 00:50:28.09\00:50:29.86 And he prays that, you know, particular sin, 00:50:29.89\00:50:33.50 that once he had been guilty of or certainly what? 00:50:33.53\00:50:36.10 Blood, the shedding of blood, 00:50:36.13\00:50:38.13 you know, he planned it, 00:50:38.17\00:50:42.24 you know, and you think, how much worse can it get? 00:50:42.27\00:50:44.04 It wasn't accidental, it was planned. 00:50:44.07\00:50:45.91 There was a reason for why he did it. 00:50:45.94\00:50:48.68 So he now cries out simply his tears, 00:50:48.71\00:50:51.15 cries out to God for mercy. 00:50:51.18\00:50:53.68 And he cries out for deliverance. 00:50:53.72\00:50:56.18 David simply says, deliver me, 00:50:56.22\00:50:59.02 you know, I mean, how often have we said, 00:50:59.05\00:51:00.72 sometimes we don't feel like we need to be delivered maybe. 00:51:00.76\00:51:03.02 Maybe that's the problem. 00:51:03.06\00:51:04.76 I need to say, every day of my life, 00:51:04.79\00:51:06.16 O God, deliver me. 00:51:06.19\00:51:08.43 Deliver me.
