Hallelujah. 00:01:53.98\00:01:55.31 We have finally gotten to the New Covenant. 00:01:55.34\00:01:58.18 Our memory verse today 00:01:58.21\00:02:01.92 is Jeremiah 31:31. 00:02:01.95\00:02:05.75 Behold the Lord says, 00:02:05.79\00:02:08.09 "Behold, the days are coming. 00:02:08.12\00:02:10.06 I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel 00:02:10.09\00:02:14.20 and with the house of Judah." 00:02:14.23\00:02:15.90 So let's do a quick review. 00:02:15.93\00:02:18.17 We've been studying the everlasting covenant, 00:02:18.20\00:02:22.10 which by the way, 00:02:22.14\00:02:23.47 is the foundation of the three angels' messages. 00:02:23.51\00:02:25.97 So this is very pertinent to today's time. 00:02:26.01\00:02:31.51 And to understand 00:02:31.55\00:02:32.88 what is the everlasting covenant. 00:02:32.91\00:02:34.95 Revelation 13:8 says, 00:02:34.98\00:02:37.22 "The lamb slain 00:02:37.25\00:02:38.85 from the foundation of the world." 00:02:38.89\00:02:41.06 Grace, Paul told Timothy, 00:02:41.09\00:02:42.82 it was given to us in Christ Jesus 00:02:42.86\00:02:45.66 before time began. 00:02:45.69\00:02:47.93 And Hebrews 13:20 says, 00:02:47.96\00:02:51.00 "That Christ's blood 00:02:51.03\00:02:52.77 is the blood of the everlasting covenant." 00:02:52.80\00:02:56.24 So from Genesis to Revelation, 00:02:56.27\00:02:58.17 what we're seeing is a progressive unfolding 00:02:58.21\00:03:02.71 of God's everlasting covenant 00:03:02.74\00:03:05.98 in the Messiah, Jesus Christ, God, 00:03:06.01\00:03:09.15 who would become a person, the person of Jesus Christ. 00:03:09.18\00:03:14.02 Each one of God's covenants builds on. 00:03:14.06\00:03:17.93 It's a greater revelation than He showed us before. 00:03:17.96\00:03:21.46 And ever since Genesis 15, right after the... 00:03:21.50\00:03:26.17 3:15, right after the fall, 00:03:26.20\00:03:28.67 God has promised a holy seed, 00:03:28.70\00:03:32.61 the seed of a woman 00:03:32.64\00:03:34.08 who would bruise the head of the serpent. 00:03:34.11\00:03:38.41 And that's what we're seeing. 00:03:38.45\00:03:40.85 I just wanna make this one point. 00:03:40.88\00:03:42.88 Salvation has always been by grace. 00:03:42.92\00:03:45.29 Hebrews 11 says that 00:03:45.32\00:03:47.26 Noah became the heir of righteousness by faith. 00:03:47.29\00:03:52.56 Genesis 15:6 says, 00:03:52.59\00:03:54.90 "Abraham believed God, 00:03:54.93\00:03:57.27 and it was credited to him as righteousness." 00:03:57.30\00:04:00.67 We saw last week that the covenant of Sinai, 00:04:00.70\00:04:05.61 the old covenant 00:04:05.64\00:04:07.51 is actually a continuation of the Abrahamic covenant. 00:04:07.54\00:04:12.41 Because when God heard 00:04:12.45\00:04:14.52 the cries of the Hebrew children, 00:04:14.55\00:04:17.82 He remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob 00:04:17.85\00:04:23.49 and he put it into motion. 00:04:23.53\00:04:27.13 Here's what I wanted to... 00:04:27.16\00:04:29.03 Just be sure I say to you 00:04:29.06\00:04:30.87 that Abrahamic covenant 00:04:30.90\00:04:32.83 is frequently referred to as the everlasting covenant, 00:04:32.87\00:04:37.21 and it contains devotion 00:04:37.24\00:04:41.68 to God's moral law 00:04:41.71\00:04:44.45 and salvation by faith in God. 00:04:44.48\00:04:48.82 So we're going 00:04:48.85\00:04:50.19 to just skip over the rest of this, 00:04:50.22\00:04:52.15 but I do wanna remind you of one thing, 00:04:52.19\00:04:54.92 God's covenants are always God's will, 00:04:54.96\00:04:59.96 God's testament. 00:05:00.00\00:05:01.53 It is an absolute error 00:05:01.56\00:05:04.87 to refer to God's covenants as a contract. 00:05:04.90\00:05:08.80 God is the one who makes all the promises 00:05:08.84\00:05:12.37 and invites us to come into relationship with Him. 00:05:12.41\00:05:16.44 And as we enter covenant, 00:05:16.48\00:05:19.58 that covenant does have conditions. 00:05:19.61\00:05:23.55 God wants a relationship of loyal love. 00:05:23.59\00:05:29.06 He wants us to walk in obedience to Him. 00:05:29.09\00:05:32.73 So it's the covenant of, 00:05:32.76\00:05:36.06 kind of like a father and child relationship 00:05:36.10\00:05:39.43 or a husband and bride relationship. 00:05:39.47\00:05:41.84 Let's look at Sunday. 00:05:41.87\00:05:43.20 Our time is going away. 00:05:43.24\00:05:44.81 Behold, the days are coming. 00:05:44.84\00:05:49.04 The nation of Israel 00:05:49.08\00:05:51.18 dismally failed to keep God's covenant. 00:05:51.21\00:05:55.88 They disobeyed, they broke the Old Covenant. 00:05:55.92\00:05:59.52 So God promises a New Covenant. 00:05:59.55\00:06:02.79 Let's look at that word new. 00:06:02.82\00:06:06.03 New isn't... 00:06:06.06\00:06:09.43 The better word would be renewed. 00:06:09.46\00:06:12.37 It means renewed like a new moon. 00:06:12.40\00:06:15.84 It's not a brand new solar body up there. 00:06:15.87\00:06:20.18 A new moon is a new phase of the moon. 00:06:20.21\00:06:24.88 It is the renewed illumination of the moon. 00:06:24.91\00:06:30.65 So when we say New Covenant, 00:06:30.69\00:06:33.46 don't think that God, 00:06:33.49\00:06:34.99 some people seem to think that God just said, 00:06:35.02\00:06:37.33 oh, all of that failed at Sinai, 00:06:37.36\00:06:39.86 wash my hands, we're starting over. 00:06:39.89\00:06:42.36 No, it is the continuation. 00:06:42.40\00:06:46.47 And actually I don't have this, 00:06:46.50\00:06:48.20 but if we look at Luke Chapter 1, let me... 00:06:48.24\00:06:52.01 This just reminds me. 00:06:52.04\00:06:53.78 Let's see if I can find my scripture here, 00:06:53.81\00:06:56.54 Luke Chapter 1. 00:06:56.58\00:06:59.18 And if you go down, 00:06:59.21\00:07:00.55 when it's looking at the promise, 00:07:00.58\00:07:05.29 we're gonna look at verse 69. 00:07:05.32\00:07:08.72 Zachariah is talking about it. 00:07:08.76\00:07:10.69 And he says, he has raised up a horn of salvation for us. 00:07:10.73\00:07:14.86 This is Jesus Christ. 00:07:14.90\00:07:16.83 And then look at verse 72. 00:07:16.87\00:07:19.30 Why is he raising him up? 00:07:19.33\00:07:21.34 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers 00:07:21.37\00:07:26.24 and to remember His holy covenant, 00:07:26.27\00:07:29.64 the oath which He swore to our father Abraham. 00:07:29.68\00:07:34.68 So, and then He goes on. 00:07:34.72\00:07:36.65 He says, "To grant us that we being delivered 00:07:36.69\00:07:38.49 from the hand of our enemies 00:07:38.52\00:07:39.85 might serve him without fear 00:07:39.89\00:07:41.42 in holiness and righteousness before him 00:07:41.46\00:07:44.39 all the days of our lives." 00:07:44.43\00:07:46.29 This is the new renewed covenant 00:07:46.33\00:07:50.13 following the Abrahamic covenant. 00:07:50.17\00:07:52.97 So let's look at Jeremiah 31:31. 00:07:53.00\00:07:55.70 We're gonna take it apart. 00:07:55.74\00:07:57.64 31 through 34, Jeremiah 31, 00:07:57.67\00:08:00.28 "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, 00:08:00.31\00:08:02.81 when I'll make a new covenant with the house of Israel 00:08:02.84\00:08:06.72 and with the house of God." 00:08:06.75\00:08:08.35 Who's making the covenant? 00:08:08.38\00:08:09.78 It's God who instigates the covenant. 00:08:09.82\00:08:12.42 "Not according to the covenant 00:08:12.45\00:08:14.12 that I made with the father in that day 00:08:14.16\00:08:15.79 that I took them by the hand 00:08:15.82\00:08:17.23 to lead them out of the land of Egypt, 00:08:17.26\00:08:19.26 My covenant, which they broke 00:08:19.29\00:08:22.93 though I was a husband to them." 00:08:22.96\00:08:25.87 Do you see that some relational part of the covenant. 00:08:25.90\00:08:28.90 God's inviting us into a covenant relationship, 00:08:28.94\00:08:33.34 but any relationship we talked about this, 00:08:33.38\00:08:36.54 I think last week, 00:08:36.58\00:08:37.98 any relationship has to have boundaries... 00:08:38.01\00:08:40.85 It's... 00:08:40.88\00:08:42.22 And so, God is setting 00:08:42.25\00:08:43.59 boundaries of love around His covenant. 00:08:43.62\00:08:47.56 He says, verse 33. 00:08:47.59\00:08:49.96 "This is the covenant 00:08:49.99\00:08:51.33 that I will make with the house of Israel 00:08:51.36\00:08:52.89 after those days, says the Lord." 00:08:52.93\00:08:55.33 He's talking about the New Covenant. 00:08:55.36\00:08:57.23 I will put My laws where? 00:08:57.27\00:08:59.80 In their minds and write it on their hearts. 00:08:59.83\00:09:03.81 And then God always puts this in and I love it. 00:09:03.84\00:09:08.04 And I will be their God and they shall me My people. 00:09:08.08\00:09:12.95 God is a relational God. 00:09:12.98\00:09:15.88 And then He says, 00:09:15.92\00:09:18.12 I will be their God, 00:09:18.15\00:09:20.72 and they shall be My people. 00:09:20.76\00:09:22.19 Oh, what law? 00:09:22.22\00:09:23.63 He says, 00:09:23.66\00:09:24.99 "I'm gonna write the law on their minds 00:09:25.03\00:09:27.00 and in their hearts." 00:09:27.03\00:09:28.36 We're gonna come back to that, 00:09:28.40\00:09:29.73 to see what law He's talking about. 00:09:29.76\00:09:31.43 "No more. 00:09:31.47\00:09:32.80 He says, shall every man teaches neighbor, 00:09:32.83\00:09:34.97 and every man his brother, saying, 00:09:35.00\00:09:36.54 'Know the Lord,' for they shall all know me 00:09:36.57\00:09:39.44 in a relational aspect 00:09:39.47\00:09:41.58 from the least of them to the greatest, 00:09:41.61\00:09:43.08 says the Lord. 00:09:43.11\00:09:44.45 For I will forgive their iniquity, 00:09:44.48\00:09:46.68 and their sin I will remember no more." 00:09:46.72\00:09:49.65 The word to know in the Hebrew mind 00:09:49.68\00:09:52.85 was a relational knowledge. 00:09:52.89\00:09:55.39 So God is offering forgiveness of sins 00:09:55.42\00:10:00.40 to those who are in a meaningful relationship 00:10:00.43\00:10:04.40 with Him. 00:10:04.43\00:10:05.87 So what law is He talking about? 00:10:05.90\00:10:09.20 The word law in Hebrew means instruction 00:10:09.24\00:10:13.14 and the Ten Commandment law. 00:10:13.17\00:10:17.01 God's law is eternal. 00:10:17.05\00:10:18.85 We've been studying that. 00:10:18.88\00:10:20.65 It is God's instruction of covenant love. 00:10:20.68\00:10:25.35 How we should love Him with all of our heart, 00:10:25.39\00:10:27.46 soul, mind, and strength 00:10:27.49\00:10:29.09 and love one another as we love ourselves. 00:10:29.12\00:10:32.73 If just to go to a quick comparison, 00:10:32.76\00:10:36.33 we looked, I think last week or the week before, 00:10:36.36\00:10:39.83 the Old Covenant found in Exodus 20:22 00:10:39.87\00:10:44.11 through Exodus 23:22 00:10:44.14\00:10:48.98 had the moral law at the heart of it. 00:10:49.01\00:10:51.81 It had a civil law that was the... 00:10:51.85\00:10:56.22 Say the constitution for the nation of Israel. 00:10:56.25\00:10:59.79 And it was based on the moral law 00:10:59.82\00:11:02.96 to teach the people 00:11:02.99\00:11:04.33 who had lived in a pagan society 00:11:04.36\00:11:06.36 for so long, 00:11:06.39\00:11:07.90 how they should act. 00:11:07.93\00:11:11.07 And then it had a ceremonial law. 00:11:11.10\00:11:12.90 Well guess what? 00:11:12.93\00:11:14.47 Thirty, what we find out is that what the... 00:11:14.50\00:11:16.74 Is what the New Covenant is all about as well? 00:11:16.77\00:11:20.04 We find the moral law 00:11:20.08\00:11:22.41 is the heart of the New Covenant. 00:11:22.44\00:11:25.15 Hebrews 8:10 00:11:25.18\00:11:27.62 God says in the New Testament, 00:11:27.65\00:11:30.65 this is my New Covenant. 00:11:30.69\00:11:32.29 I'm gonna write my laws, 00:11:32.32\00:11:34.72 the moral law 00:11:34.76\00:11:36.69 in your minds and in your hearts. 00:11:36.73\00:11:39.93 There's civil laws. 00:11:39.96\00:11:41.56 Where were the civil laws given? 00:11:41.60\00:11:43.90 The Old Covenant, Mount Sinai, 00:11:43.93\00:11:46.17 the New Covenant, 00:11:46.20\00:11:47.54 the Mount of Beatitudes. 00:11:47.57\00:11:49.57 And they are a An extension or a government 00:11:49.60\00:11:54.58 around those laws. 00:11:54.61\00:11:57.31 But God in the person of Jesus Christ 00:11:57.35\00:12:01.32 came down to establish this New Covenant 00:12:01.35\00:12:05.92 and He fulfilled the ceremonial laws. 00:12:05.95\00:12:10.19 I'm actually gonna go off whatever I'd plan. 00:12:10.23\00:12:14.56 Let's go to Colossians 2:14. 00:12:14.60\00:12:16.43 I wanna show you something. 00:12:16.46\00:12:18.30 In Colossians 2:14, 00:12:18.33\00:12:22.17 He's talking about that 00:12:22.20\00:12:24.94 when Christ was crucified, 00:12:24.97\00:12:28.94 He wiped out the handwriting of requirements against us, 00:12:28.98\00:12:32.08 which was contrary to us 00:12:32.11\00:12:34.25 and has taken it out of the way 00:12:34.28\00:12:36.52 having nailed it to the cross. 00:12:36.55\00:12:38.99 What was contrary to us? 00:12:39.02\00:12:41.56 Ephesians 2:15 says, 00:12:41.59\00:12:43.69 "It was this wall of separation."... 00:12:43.73\00:12:46.70 It is in Deuteronomy 30:20... 00:12:46.73\00:12:49.56 31:26, we saw that 00:12:49.60\00:12:52.57 the Old Covenant had curses in it 00:12:52.60\00:12:56.77 that it was on the outside of the ark 00:12:56.81\00:13:01.34 and it was there as a witness against them. 00:13:01.38\00:13:05.08 We know, 00:13:05.11\00:13:06.51 it wasn't the Ten Commandments. 00:13:06.55\00:13:08.52 And in context, look here he says, 00:13:08.55\00:13:11.32 having disarmed, this is Ephesians 2:15, 00:13:11.35\00:13:14.92 or Colossians 3:15, 00:13:14.96\00:13:17.29 "Having disarmed principalities and powers, 00:13:17.33\00:13:20.00 He made a public spectacle of them. 00:13:20.03\00:13:22.83 So let triumphing over them. 00:13:22.86\00:13:26.20 Let no one judge you in food or in drink 00:13:26.23\00:13:28.64 or regarding a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths." 00:13:28.67\00:13:34.28 This is the annual festival Sabbaths, 00:13:34.31\00:13:36.68 which are a shadow of things to come. 00:13:36.71\00:13:39.05 But the substance was Christ. 00:13:39.08\00:13:41.42 Jesus Christ is the body that casts the shadow. 00:13:41.45\00:13:45.19 Everything about the Old Covenant, 00:13:45.22\00:13:48.16 the sanctuary system pointed to Him. 00:13:48.19\00:13:52.33 He is the ultimate sacrifice. 00:13:52.36\00:13:54.43 All those annual Sabbaths pointed to His ministry 00:13:54.46\00:13:58.47 and all the drink offerings 00:13:58.50\00:14:00.94 and the food offerings. 00:14:00.97\00:14:02.57 All of this was nailed to the cross 00:14:02.60\00:14:04.61 because, we now have a renewed covenant 00:14:04.64\00:14:09.48 with the Messiah who has arrived. 00:14:09.51\00:14:11.95 Amen. 00:14:11.98\00:14:13.31 Thank you so much, Shelley. 00:14:13.35\00:14:14.68 What a wonderful set up for the New Covenant 00:14:14.72\00:14:17.25 or the renewed covenant. 00:14:17.29\00:14:20.36 I love that word for it. 00:14:20.39\00:14:22.39 In Hebrew, the word is Chadashah 00:14:22.42\00:14:25.53 and in Greek Kainos, 00:14:25.56\00:14:27.30 but similar words, 00:14:27.33\00:14:28.66 but they both mean new in quality, not in time 00:14:28.70\00:14:32.33 where we get that renewed covenant from, 00:14:32.37\00:14:35.37 I love that. 00:14:35.40\00:14:36.74 Not a New Covenant, 00:14:36.77\00:14:38.11 but God is renewing it with His people. 00:14:38.14\00:14:40.58 We're gonna look at another covenant 00:14:40.61\00:14:43.18 in the Book of Hosea. 00:14:43.21\00:14:45.21 It's not really a different covenant, 00:14:45.25\00:14:47.08 but this is just a covenant. 00:14:47.12\00:14:48.92 So turn with me to Hosea Chapter 2. 00:14:48.95\00:14:51.25 This is actually 150 years 00:14:51.29\00:14:53.72 probably before the New Covenant is introduced 00:14:53.76\00:14:56.76 in Jeremiah Chapter 31, 00:14:56.79\00:14:58.29 but we will notice some elements 00:14:58.33\00:15:00.70 that are similar in this covenant 00:15:00.73\00:15:02.56 that God makes with the people in Hosea, 00:15:02.60\00:15:06.00 as opposed to in Jeremiah. 00:15:06.03\00:15:08.67 Now, the Prophet Hosea, this is, 00:15:08.70\00:15:11.31 he was the last prophet 00:15:11.34\00:15:12.94 before the Northern kingdom fell. 00:15:12.97\00:15:14.88 And he made this strong appeal to the people. 00:15:14.91\00:15:18.28 It was a time of spiritual bankruptcy for Israel. 00:15:18.31\00:15:22.85 Now the tribes had long since split, 00:15:22.88\00:15:25.15 the 10 tribes, the Northern tribes. 00:15:25.19\00:15:26.92 And then, of course, the two Southern. 00:15:26.96\00:15:28.42 So we're talking specifically about the Northern, 00:15:28.46\00:15:30.63 the 10 Northern tribes there of Israel. 00:15:30.66\00:15:33.50 They had idol worship. 00:15:33.53\00:15:35.03 They had set up worship for Baal and Astoreth. 00:15:35.06\00:15:38.13 They had child sacrifice and gross sensuality 00:15:38.17\00:15:42.90 associated with these pagan rights. 00:15:42.94\00:15:45.77 There was injustice and oppression that was common. 00:15:45.81\00:15:49.38 In fact, no commandment of God 00:15:49.41\00:15:51.61 seemed to be kept by the people. 00:15:51.65\00:15:54.32 God's covenant, 00:15:54.35\00:15:55.68 it was clearly broken by the people. 00:15:55.72\00:15:58.42 The theme of Hosea, 00:15:58.45\00:15:59.79 this always gets me is a theme of steadfast love. 00:15:59.82\00:16:04.23 You'll see if love is temporary and fickle, 00:16:04.26\00:16:07.03 it doesn't hurt a whole lot 00:16:07.06\00:16:08.60 because unreturned love or rejection 00:16:08.63\00:16:11.93 is really no issue 00:16:11.97\00:16:13.30 because weak love, 00:16:13.34\00:16:14.67 it simply seeks another object. 00:16:14.70\00:16:18.07 But if love is steadfast, rejection and unfaithfulness, 00:16:18.11\00:16:23.95 it causes great anguish. 00:16:23.98\00:16:26.45 Love goes on 00:16:26.48\00:16:27.82 even when the object of that love 00:16:27.85\00:16:30.02 no longer cares, 00:16:30.05\00:16:31.39 but the person with the steadfast love, 00:16:31.42\00:16:33.49 that love goes on. 00:16:33.52\00:16:35.92 Tremendous suffering results. 00:16:35.96\00:16:37.93 Israel's unfaithfulness to God 00:16:37.96\00:16:41.26 caused unspeakable anguish 00:16:41.30\00:16:44.27 because our God has steadfast love. 00:16:44.30\00:16:47.87 He didn't just say, okay, I'm done with them. 00:16:47.90\00:16:49.30 I'm gonna find a new object of affection. 00:16:49.34\00:16:51.71 Someone else to love, 00:16:51.74\00:16:53.27 it caused unspeakable anguish 00:16:53.31\00:16:55.91 because they had turned their back on Him. 00:16:55.94\00:16:58.41 So we're in Hosea Chapter 2. 00:16:58.45\00:16:59.95 We're gonna pick it up in verse 16. 00:16:59.98\00:17:02.05 In the previous verses, we see that 00:17:02.08\00:17:04.02 the nation of Israel had played the harlot. 00:17:04.05\00:17:07.02 They did their own thing. 00:17:07.06\00:17:08.49 They had children with other men. 00:17:08.52\00:17:10.16 They chased after other lovers. 00:17:10.19\00:17:12.49 Basically, they had forsaken God. 00:17:12.53\00:17:15.36 They had broken the covenant 00:17:15.40\00:17:17.90 and followed other gods 00:17:17.93\00:17:19.93 with a little g pagan gods. 00:17:19.97\00:17:22.20 And we see in Hosea 2:16, 00:17:22.24\00:17:24.41 "And it shall be in that day, says the Lord, 00:17:24.44\00:17:26.84 that you will call Me My Husband, 00:17:26.88\00:17:29.64 and no longer call Me my Master." 00:17:29.68\00:17:32.41 We see the steadfast covenant love of God. 00:17:32.45\00:17:35.48 "For I will take from her mouth the names of the Baals." 00:17:35.52\00:17:38.02 He's saying, 00:17:38.05\00:17:39.39 "I'm gonna remove from you that idol worship." 00:17:39.42\00:17:41.56 "And they shall be remembered by their name no more. 00:17:41.59\00:17:44.23 In that day," what? 00:17:44.26\00:17:45.76 "I will make a covenant for them 00:17:45.79\00:17:49.06 with the beasts of the field, with the birds of the air, 00:17:49.10\00:17:51.27 with the creeping things of the ground." 00:17:51.30\00:17:52.90 Jump down to verse 19. 00:17:52.93\00:17:54.84 "I will betroth you to me for forever. 00:17:54.87\00:17:58.37 Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness and justice, 00:17:58.41\00:18:01.64 and lovingkindness and mercy. 00:18:01.68\00:18:03.68 I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. 00:18:03.71\00:18:06.58 And you shall know the Lord." 00:18:06.61\00:18:10.09 I see three parallels between this covenant 00:18:10.12\00:18:12.79 in Hosea 2 and the New Covenant 00:18:12.82\00:18:15.86 or the renewed covenant 00:18:15.89\00:18:17.33 that Shelley talked about in Jeremiah 31, 00:18:17.36\00:18:19.86 the first covenant... 00:18:19.89\00:18:21.23 The first parallel is that in both cases, 00:18:21.26\00:18:23.03 the covenant is compared to our marriage relationship. 00:18:23.06\00:18:25.70 We see in Jeremiah, God said, 00:18:25.73\00:18:27.54 "Though, I was a husband to them." 00:18:27.57\00:18:30.17 We see in Hosea that you will call Me my Husband, 00:18:30.21\00:18:33.58 and no longer call Me my Master. 00:18:33.61\00:18:36.18 The second parallel is that they would know the Lord. 00:18:36.21\00:18:40.32 In Jeremiah it says, 00:18:40.35\00:18:41.68 "They shall all know Me from the least of them 00:18:41.72\00:18:43.65 to the greatest of them." 00:18:43.69\00:18:45.75 In Hosea, it just says, 00:18:45.79\00:18:47.56 "You shall know the Lord." 00:18:47.59\00:18:49.69 The third parallel is 00:18:49.72\00:18:51.13 we see a certain renewing of the vows 00:18:51.16\00:18:54.16 or the covenant. 00:18:54.20\00:18:55.83 In Jeremiah, it says, 00:18:55.86\00:18:57.20 "I will make a New Covenant or a renewed covenant 00:18:57.23\00:18:59.77 with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah." 00:18:59.80\00:19:02.70 In Hosea, it says, 00:19:02.74\00:19:04.07 "I will betroth you to Me forever. 00:19:04.11\00:19:07.11 I will betroth you to Me 00:19:07.14\00:19:08.48 in righteousness and judgment." 00:19:08.51\00:19:09.84 There's that marriage relationship, 00:19:09.88\00:19:11.55 that renewing of that covenant or those vows. 00:19:11.58\00:19:16.28 So let's look in our remaining time 00:19:16.32\00:19:18.42 at the heart work that God wants to do 00:19:18.45\00:19:22.66 in your heart and in mine 00:19:22.69\00:19:25.23 under this New Covenant. 00:19:25.26\00:19:26.63 And we're gonna find out that this heart work, 00:19:26.66\00:19:28.80 it went on even in the Old Covenant, 00:19:28.83\00:19:31.13 which is what I love. 00:19:31.17\00:19:32.50 I have seven promises 00:19:32.53\00:19:35.84 that God gave to His covenant people. 00:19:35.87\00:19:38.91 Promise number one, to grant repentance 00:19:38.94\00:19:41.88 and cleansing from sin. 00:19:41.91\00:19:43.68 Let's look at Ezekiel 18. 00:19:43.71\00:19:45.21 We're gonna spend some time in Ezekiel. 00:19:45.25\00:19:47.12 Ezekiel 18:30 00:19:47.15\00:19:50.55 partway through the verse. 00:19:50.59\00:19:51.92 It says, 00:19:51.95\00:19:53.29 "Repent and turn from all your transgressions, 00:19:53.32\00:19:55.02 so that iniquity will not be your ruin." 00:19:55.06\00:19:58.23 Here's a call, heart work to repentance. 00:19:58.26\00:20:02.63 "Cast away from you, all the transgressions, 00:20:02.66\00:20:05.00 which you have committed and get yourselves 00:20:05.03\00:20:06.84 a new heart and a new spirit. 00:20:06.87\00:20:08.97 For why should you who die, O house of Israel?" 00:20:09.00\00:20:13.58 We see this appeal to repentance, 00:20:13.61\00:20:15.81 appeal to turn back, appeal for God 00:20:15.84\00:20:18.91 to give them a new heart and a new spirit. 00:20:18.95\00:20:22.98 And we know even repentance is a gift from God. 00:20:23.02\00:20:25.62 Romans 2:4 says, 00:20:25.65\00:20:27.09 "It is the goodness of God 00:20:27.12\00:20:28.46 that leads us or draws us to repentance." 00:20:28.49\00:20:32.16 The second promise is that God promises 00:20:32.19\00:20:34.30 to write His word in our hearts. 00:20:34.33\00:20:36.83 Shelley already referenced that in Jeremiah 31, 00:20:36.87\00:20:39.20 but I'm gonna show you a different reference. 00:20:39.23\00:20:40.77 This is in Deuteronomy. 00:20:40.80\00:20:42.14 This is gonna show you that the old... 00:20:42.17\00:20:44.61 What we call the Old Covenant 00:20:44.64\00:20:47.08 was also written in the hearts of the people. 00:20:47.11\00:20:49.94 We always say just the New Covenant was, 00:20:49.98\00:20:51.85 Hebrews 8:10 of course says that and Jeremiah 31, 00:20:51.88\00:20:54.88 but Deuteronomy 6:6 says, 00:20:54.92\00:20:56.65 "And these words which I command you today 00:20:56.69\00:20:58.95 shall be in your heart." 00:20:58.99\00:21:00.32 Did you catch that? 00:21:00.36\00:21:01.69 They will be in your heart. 00:21:01.72\00:21:03.06 And in Deuteronomy 30:6, 00:21:03.09\00:21:05.49 it says, 00:21:05.53\00:21:06.86 "The Lord your God will circumcise your heart 00:21:06.90\00:21:10.63 and the heart of your descendants, 00:21:10.67\00:21:13.94 to love the Lord your God with all your heart, 00:21:13.97\00:21:16.00 with all your soul that you may live." 00:21:16.04\00:21:17.61 So this is really under Old Covenant. 00:21:17.64\00:21:19.71 And we say, "Oh, wait a minute. 00:21:19.74\00:21:21.18 But the New Covenant was when the law went in the heart." 00:21:21.21\00:21:23.98 And yes it did in a special way, 00:21:24.01\00:21:26.18 but it also was in the heart 00:21:26.21\00:21:27.55 under that Old Covenant as well. 00:21:27.58\00:21:29.68 Third promise 00:21:29.72\00:21:31.05 is to cleanse us from sin and idol worship. 00:21:31.09\00:21:35.12 We're going back to Ezekiel. 00:21:35.16\00:21:36.62 Ezekiel 36, 00:21:36.66\00:21:37.99 we're gonna end with these passages. 00:21:38.03\00:21:39.36 Ezekiel 36:25, 00:21:39.39\00:21:42.56 "The promise to cleanse you and I from sin 00:21:42.60\00:21:45.20 and idol worship." 00:21:45.23\00:21:46.57 Now we might say, we're not worshiping idols today. 00:21:46.60\00:21:48.70 And maybe not these pagan gods, 00:21:48.74\00:21:50.54 we might not bow down to them, 00:21:50.57\00:21:51.91 but we all have something if you're honest with yourself 00:21:51.94\00:21:56.51 and the recesses of your heart, 00:21:56.54\00:21:58.51 that you might be holding onto above Jesus, 00:21:58.55\00:22:02.35 or that you might be saying, 00:22:02.38\00:22:05.32 "I can't give this to you, God, because I kinda like it. 00:22:05.35\00:22:07.69 And I wanna hold onto it." 00:22:07.72\00:22:09.49 That's called an idol. 00:22:09.52\00:22:10.93 It says in Ezekiel 36:25, 00:22:10.96\00:22:13.09 "I will sprinkle clean water on you 00:22:13.13\00:22:14.90 and you shall be clean." 00:22:14.93\00:22:16.67 He promises to cleanse us. 00:22:16.70\00:22:18.93 I will cleanse you from all your filthiness 00:22:18.97\00:22:20.84 and from all your idols. 00:22:20.87\00:22:23.10 Oh, do you wanna be cleansed? 00:22:23.14\00:22:24.91 Do you wanna be made whole? 00:22:24.94\00:22:26.71 Do you want those idols in your life cast aside? 00:22:26.74\00:22:30.18 God promises that He can do that. 00:22:30.21\00:22:32.05 Promise number four, the next verse, 00:22:32.08\00:22:33.92 "He promises to give you a new heart 00:22:33.95\00:22:36.25 and a new spirit." 00:22:36.28\00:22:37.62 Verse 26, 00:22:37.65\00:22:38.99 "I will give you a new heart 00:22:39.02\00:22:40.89 and put a new spirit within you." 00:22:40.92\00:22:42.46 We don't conjure it up. 00:22:42.49\00:22:43.83 We don't try to get a new heart. 00:22:43.86\00:22:45.36 We don't try to grit our teeth and have a better spirit. 00:22:45.39\00:22:48.13 God gives it to us. 00:22:48.16\00:22:49.66 I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh 00:22:49.70\00:22:52.93 and give you a heart of flesh. 00:22:52.97\00:22:55.47 God takes that out. 00:22:55.50\00:22:56.84 I love that. 00:22:56.87\00:22:58.21 Next verse, this is promise number five. 00:22:58.24\00:23:00.08 He promises to give us His Spirit 00:23:00.11\00:23:02.51 so that we can walk in obedience. 00:23:02.54\00:23:05.45 Verse 27, 00:23:05.48\00:23:06.82 "I will put My Spirit within you 00:23:06.85\00:23:09.88 and cause you to walk in My statutes. 00:23:09.92\00:23:13.29 You will keep My judgments and do them." 00:23:13.32\00:23:15.26 That's obedience. 00:23:15.29\00:23:16.62 He says, "You will do it." 00:23:16.66\00:23:17.99 Why? 00:23:18.03\00:23:19.36 Because His Spirit is within us, 00:23:19.39\00:23:20.73 because He's removed those idols from our life, 00:23:20.76\00:23:22.83 because He's taken out that stony heart 00:23:22.86\00:23:25.17 and given us a heart of flesh, 00:23:25.20\00:23:26.94 a heart that's open to Him. 00:23:26.97\00:23:28.87 Promise number six, 00:23:28.90\00:23:30.24 He's gonna be our God. 00:23:30.27\00:23:32.21 Verse 28, 00:23:32.24\00:23:33.71 "Then you shall dwell in the land 00:23:33.74\00:23:36.04 that I gave to your fathers. 00:23:36.08\00:23:37.51 You shall be My people 00:23:37.55\00:23:39.61 and I, I'm gonna be your God." 00:23:39.65\00:23:42.15 The final promise. 00:23:42.18\00:23:43.52 Number seven, 00:23:43.55\00:23:44.89 He promises to vindicate His name 00:23:44.92\00:23:47.46 before the world. 00:23:47.49\00:23:48.96 We're still in Ezekiel 36, 00:23:48.99\00:23:50.49 but this is verse 23. 00:23:50.53\00:23:51.99 Jump back a couple of verses. 00:23:52.03\00:23:53.40 "I will sanctify My great name," 00:23:53.43\00:23:55.63 you see that, 00:23:55.66\00:23:57.00 "which has been profaned among the nations, 00:23:57.03\00:24:00.37 which you have profaned in their midst and the nations 00:24:00.40\00:24:02.54 shall know that I am the Lord." 00:24:02.57\00:24:04.41 And how do the nations know that He is God? 00:24:04.44\00:24:06.68 When I am hallowed in You, 00:24:06.71\00:24:08.91 in their eyes. 00:24:08.94\00:24:10.85 That means when God changes you, 00:24:10.88\00:24:12.71 when God changes me, 00:24:12.75\00:24:14.35 other people see that our God is a great God 00:24:14.38\00:24:17.19 and He can do anything. 00:24:17.22\00:24:18.55 Amen. 00:24:18.59\00:24:19.92 Glory to God, wonderful study. 00:24:19.95\00:24:21.66 Thank you so much. 00:24:21.69\00:24:23.02 And we want you to stay tuned Lomacang. 00:25:15.41\00:25:17.81 Amen. Thank you so much. 00:25:17.85\00:25:19.51 You know, the Old and New Covenant 00:25:19.55\00:25:21.12 is a beautiful topic. 00:25:21.15\00:25:23.22 I wanna dive into it by looking at the scripture 00:25:23.25\00:25:26.72 that is brought out by the author of this lesson. 00:25:26.76\00:25:30.23 It's an amazing focal point 00:25:30.26\00:25:32.06 where he starts in Isaiah 56:6-7. 00:25:32.09\00:25:38.00 Let's look at that together, 00:25:38.03\00:25:40.24 talking about the Old and the New Covenants. 00:25:40.27\00:25:42.90 He says in Isaiah 56:6-7. 00:25:42.94\00:25:46.01 Because a lot of times we think that 00:25:46.04\00:25:47.44 the covenant is only for those 00:25:47.48\00:25:49.08 who are just in the family of God. 00:25:49.11\00:25:52.21 But the Lord starts saying, 00:25:52.25\00:25:53.68 "Wait a minute. 00:25:53.72\00:25:55.05 If I accused the earth and those in it 00:25:55.08\00:25:58.72 of breaking My covenant, 00:25:58.75\00:26:01.29 then My covenant is extended to the earth, 00:26:01.32\00:26:03.66 and those who are in it. 00:26:03.69\00:26:05.23 Notice what He says, 00:26:05.26\00:26:06.83 "Also the sons of the foreigner 00:26:06.86\00:26:10.00 who joined themselves to the Lord to serve Him, 00:26:10.03\00:26:13.13 and to love the name of the Lord, 00:26:13.17\00:26:15.04 to be His servants. 00:26:15.07\00:26:16.40 Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, 00:26:16.44\00:26:20.68 and holds fast My covenant. 00:26:20.71\00:26:22.78 Even them, 00:26:22.81\00:26:24.28 I will bring to my holy mountain, 00:26:24.31\00:26:26.38 and make them joyful in My house of prayer. 00:26:26.41\00:26:29.08 Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices 00:26:29.12\00:26:31.92 will be accepted on My altar, 00:26:31.95\00:26:34.92 for My house 00:26:34.96\00:26:36.29 shall be called a house of prayer 00:26:36.32\00:26:37.66 for all nations," 00:26:37.69\00:26:39.69 or some translation says "for all people." 00:26:39.73\00:26:42.16 Notice what's happening here. 00:26:42.20\00:26:43.97 The covenant made with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob to Israel, 00:26:44.00\00:26:47.24 but the Lord opened it up and says, 00:26:47.27\00:26:48.90 whoever, as Galatians says, 00:26:48.94\00:26:51.37 "If you are in Christ, you are Abraham's seed and heir 00:26:51.41\00:26:53.98 according to the promise." 00:26:54.01\00:26:55.34 So He's saying the covenant 00:26:55.38\00:26:56.71 is not for any particular nationality. 00:26:56.75\00:26:58.78 I just gave it to them like 00:26:58.81\00:27:00.38 I gave mail to the people that work at the post office, 00:27:00.42\00:27:03.05 but their job is to get this gospel 00:27:03.08\00:27:04.72 to the entire world. 00:27:04.75\00:27:06.45 And that's why Jeremiah 31:33 is so vitally important. 00:27:06.49\00:27:09.89 He states the covenant 00:27:09.92\00:27:11.36 that he made with the house of Israel 00:27:11.39\00:27:13.06 is not just for the house of Israel. 00:27:13.09\00:27:14.76 And we'll find out what that means in a moment. 00:27:14.80\00:27:16.87 Jeremiah 31:33, 00:27:16.90\00:27:18.63 "But this is the covenant 00:27:18.67\00:27:20.00 that I will make with the house of Israel 00:27:20.04\00:27:21.37 after those days, 00:27:21.40\00:27:22.74 says the Lord: 00:27:22.77\00:27:24.11 I will put My laws in their minds, 00:27:24.14\00:27:26.24 and write it on their hearts, 00:27:26.27\00:27:28.51 and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." 00:27:28.54\00:27:31.41 When we stand on the sea of glass, 00:27:31.45\00:27:33.05 when the redeemed of the age who stand before God, 00:27:33.08\00:27:36.12 the Bible says out of every nation, 00:27:36.15\00:27:38.05 every kindred, every tongue, every people, 00:27:38.09\00:27:41.46 God is saying, you've got a responsibility. 00:27:41.49\00:27:43.86 Those to whom I made this covenant, 00:27:43.89\00:27:45.63 but go into the highways and hedges and compel all. 00:27:45.66\00:27:48.73 What we're gonna see now is when we read about that. 00:27:48.76\00:27:51.77 Now let's go to Galatians Chapter 3. 00:27:51.80\00:27:53.77 When we read about the expansive invitation 00:27:53.80\00:27:57.34 from God's covenant to the world, 00:27:57.37\00:27:59.44 let's see how the Apostle Paul qualifies this very carefully. 00:27:59.47\00:28:03.78 Verse 26 to 29 of Galatians Chapter 3, 00:28:03.81\00:28:07.48 "For you are all sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ 00:28:07.52\00:28:10.42 or Christ Jesus. 00:28:10.45\00:28:11.79 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ, 00:28:11.82\00:28:15.06 have put on Christ." 00:28:15.09\00:28:16.89 No argument there, but he doesn't stop. 00:28:16.93\00:28:19.76 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, 00:28:19.79\00:28:21.60 there is neither slave nor free, 00:28:21.63\00:28:23.47 there is neither male nor female, 00:28:23.50\00:28:25.57 for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 00:28:25.60\00:28:28.04 And if you are Christ's, if you belong to Him, 00:28:28.07\00:28:32.17 then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs 00:28:32.21\00:28:34.24 according to the promise." 00:28:34.28\00:28:36.21 So the promise that the Lord made here 00:28:36.24\00:28:38.35 that not only applies 00:28:38.38\00:28:39.91 through the Ten Commandments to all humanity, 00:28:39.95\00:28:42.32 but the Sabbath... 00:28:42.35\00:28:43.69 But the Sabbath reiterates that. 00:28:43.72\00:28:45.62 So when the Sabbath command was given, 00:28:45.65\00:28:47.62 the Lord says, you nor your son, 00:28:47.66\00:28:50.23 nor your daughter, nor your manservant, 00:28:50.26\00:28:52.56 nor your maidservant, 00:28:52.59\00:28:54.80 nor your cattle, nor the stranger 00:28:54.83\00:28:57.60 that is within your gates. 00:28:57.63\00:28:59.53 When people come to my house 00:28:59.57\00:29:00.90 or would stay with my wife and I, 00:29:00.94\00:29:03.14 we all keep the Sabbath together. 00:29:03.17\00:29:05.01 They're not watching television while we're worshiping. 00:29:05.04\00:29:08.41 The stranger that is within our gates, 00:29:08.44\00:29:10.18 we let them know when they come to visit. 00:29:10.21\00:29:11.81 Most people that come to visit us 00:29:11.85\00:29:13.18 are members of our family 00:29:13.21\00:29:14.78 and understand our faith already. 00:29:14.82\00:29:16.48 But if somebody comes, that's not there, 00:29:16.52\00:29:18.72 we say, well, we honor the Sabbath 00:29:18.75\00:29:20.09 from sunset Friday to sunset Sabbath, 00:29:20.12\00:29:22.09 and the blessing that God extends to us 00:29:22.12\00:29:24.66 blesses them also 00:29:24.69\00:29:26.26 because that covenant 00:29:26.29\00:29:27.63 is not something limited to nationality. 00:29:27.66\00:29:30.07 But I wanna bring something out 00:29:30.10\00:29:31.53 as Ecclesiastes 12:13, once again, 00:29:31.57\00:29:33.87 the expansive nature of the covenant. 00:29:33.90\00:29:36.30 And then I'm gonna make a twist on you 00:29:36.34\00:29:37.67 that you don't see coming. 00:29:37.71\00:29:39.51 Chapter 12, verse 13 and 14. 00:29:39.54\00:29:41.98 Look at how the wise man, Solomon concludes. 00:29:42.01\00:29:44.51 "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: 00:29:44.55\00:29:47.42 Fear God and keep His commandments, 00:29:47.45\00:29:49.48 for this is the whole duty of man." 00:29:49.52\00:29:51.45 That's the King James Version. 00:29:51.49\00:29:53.19 "For God shall bring every work into judgment 00:29:53.22\00:29:55.32 with every secret thing, 00:29:55.36\00:29:57.09 whether it be good or whether it be evil." 00:29:57.13\00:29:59.16 So when the Bible says in 1 Corinthians, 00:29:59.19\00:30:00.83 we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ. 00:30:00.86\00:30:03.57 This is all nationalities, the commandments of God, 00:30:03.60\00:30:06.17 everyone must give an account. 00:30:06.20\00:30:07.84 So the commandments of God 00:30:07.87\00:30:09.67 are there for all humanity 00:30:09.70\00:30:12.17 to live in harmony with or live in violation of. 00:30:12.21\00:30:16.31 But now the question is, 00:30:16.34\00:30:18.91 we're talking about the New Covenant 00:30:18.95\00:30:20.48 and the question is 00:30:20.52\00:30:21.85 why was a New Covenant necessary? 00:30:21.88\00:30:23.95 Let's go to Galatians 3:19. 00:30:23.99\00:30:25.55 I'm gonna try to move as quickly as Jill does. 00:30:25.59\00:30:27.66 I've always said the clock slows down for Jill 00:30:27.69\00:30:29.29 but I don't know how. 00:30:29.32\00:30:30.86 Galatians 3:19. 00:30:30.89\00:30:32.73 And the question I pose here is very, very, very important. 00:30:32.76\00:30:36.26 How can a temporary ceremonial law 00:30:36.30\00:30:39.87 applied to a permanent priesthood? 00:30:39.90\00:30:42.57 Think of this, Galatians 3:19, 00:30:42.60\00:30:45.21 "What purpose then does the law serve? 00:30:45.24\00:30:47.38 It was added because of transgression, 00:30:47.41\00:30:49.88 till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made, 00:30:49.91\00:30:53.35 and it was appointed through angels 00:30:53.38\00:30:54.98 by the hand of a mediator." 00:30:55.02\00:30:57.42 Notice the temporary nature of the law. 00:30:57.45\00:30:59.85 The ceremonial law had a lifespan 00:30:59.89\00:31:02.52 till the Seed should come. 00:31:02.56\00:31:04.46 In one of our prior lessons, we talked about the Seed, 00:31:04.49\00:31:07.20 therefore, nothing about the ceremonial law 00:31:07.23\00:31:10.77 was intended to be permanent. 00:31:10.80\00:31:13.87 The only aspect of the ceremonial law 00:31:13.90\00:31:16.60 that was intended to be permanent 00:31:16.64\00:31:19.84 in its symbolism was the lamb, the lamb, the sacrifice. 00:31:19.87\00:31:24.81 Let's go on, Hebrews 9. 00:31:24.85\00:31:26.72 Now put on your boots, 00:31:26.75\00:31:28.08 we're getting in deep water here. 00:31:28.12\00:31:29.65 Hebrews 9:9-10. Look at this. 00:31:29.68\00:31:32.59 Once again, talking about the temporary nature. 00:31:32.62\00:31:35.39 "It was symbolic for the present time 00:31:35.42\00:31:37.13 in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered, 00:31:37.16\00:31:39.66 which cannot make him who perform 00:31:39.69\00:31:41.86 the service perfect in regard to the conscience. 00:31:41.90\00:31:44.87 Verse 10, 00:31:44.90\00:31:46.23 "Concerned only with foods and drinks 00:31:46.27\00:31:48.07 with various washings and fleshy ordinances imposed," 00:31:48.10\00:31:52.47 and there it is again, 00:31:52.51\00:31:53.84 "until the time of reformation or until the Seed should come." 00:31:53.88\00:31:57.75 So here's the question. 00:31:57.78\00:31:59.55 Another question. 00:31:59.58\00:32:00.92 How can an imperfect law apply to a perfect priesthood? 00:32:00.95\00:32:05.99 Let's go to Hebrews 7:18-19, 00:32:06.02\00:32:10.06 "For on the one hand there is an annulling 00:32:10.09\00:32:12.76 of the former commandment 00:32:12.79\00:32:14.43 because of its weakness and unprofitableness, 00:32:14.46\00:32:17.77 for the law made nothing perfect, 00:32:17.80\00:32:20.20 but on the other hand, 00:32:20.24\00:32:21.64 there is the bringing in of a better hope, 00:32:21.67\00:32:25.11 through which we draw near to God." 00:32:25.14\00:32:27.34 This is gonna get really powerful. 00:32:27.38\00:32:29.01 How do we get closer to Christ? 00:32:29.04\00:32:30.75 Sorry, how do we get closer to God? 00:32:30.78\00:32:32.81 I gave you the answer, but ignore it. 00:32:32.85\00:32:35.28 Act like you didn't hear it. 00:32:35.32\00:32:36.92 The ceremonial law was a shadow. 00:32:36.95\00:32:39.25 It was ritualistic based on faulty animals 00:32:39.29\00:32:41.82 and ceremonies that were inherently imperfect. 00:32:41.86\00:32:44.53 None of those ceremonies in and of themselves 00:32:44.56\00:32:46.70 had any perfection connected to it. 00:32:46.73\00:32:48.63 But Hebrews 10:1, let's go there now. 00:32:48.66\00:32:51.50 "For the law, having a shadow of good things to come 00:32:51.53\00:32:54.30 and not the very image of those things 00:32:54.34\00:32:56.00 can never with those same sacrifices, 00:32:56.04\00:32:58.57 which they offered continually year by year, 00:32:58.61\00:33:01.98 make those who approach perfect. 00:33:02.01\00:33:03.75 For then would they have not ceased to be offered? 00:33:03.78\00:33:06.95 For the worshipers once purged 00:33:06.98\00:33:08.68 would have had no more conscience of sin." 00:33:08.72\00:33:11.65 But look at verse 3 and 4. 00:33:11.69\00:33:14.32 "But in those sacrifices, 00:33:14.36\00:33:15.96 there is a reminder of sins," how often? 00:33:15.99\00:33:18.33 "Every year," why? 00:33:18.36\00:33:20.30 "For it is not possible 00:33:20.33\00:33:21.96 that the blood of bulls and goats 00:33:22.00\00:33:23.33 could take away sins." 00:33:23.37\00:33:24.70 Help me Holy Ghost. 00:33:24.73\00:33:26.07 So if the blood of bulls and goats, 00:33:26.10\00:33:27.80 and calves and lambs, and doves can't take away sin, 00:33:27.84\00:33:30.91 what kind of blood do we need? 00:33:30.94\00:33:32.64 Let's go to Hebrews 7:13-14, 00:33:32.67\00:33:36.11 "For He of whom these things are spoken, 00:33:36.14\00:33:39.25 belongs to another tribe. 00:33:39.28\00:33:40.88 Now I wanna make a very important point 00:33:40.92\00:33:42.25 as I read this, 00:33:42.28\00:33:44.59 the Levitical tribe was never spoken 00:33:44.62\00:33:46.89 of as a permanent fixture 00:33:46.92\00:33:49.56 because the ceremonial law was not a permanent fixture. 00:33:49.59\00:33:53.03 It was only to last until the Seed should come. 00:33:53.06\00:33:55.73 When the ceremonial law ended at the cross, 00:33:55.76\00:33:58.40 when Jesus brought it to an end 00:33:58.43\00:34:00.24 and He also brought the Levitical priesthood 00:34:00.27\00:34:02.14 to an end. 00:34:02.17\00:34:03.51 But how do we have a priest today? 00:34:03.54\00:34:05.27 Jesus didn't come from the tribe of Levi. 00:34:05.31\00:34:07.28 He came from the tribe of Judah. 00:34:07.31\00:34:09.21 Go quickly with me now. 00:34:09.24\00:34:10.58 Verse 13, 00:34:10.61\00:34:12.25 "For He of whom these things are spoken 00:34:12.28\00:34:14.28 belongs to another tribe 00:34:14.32\00:34:15.88 from which no man has officiated at the altar. 00:34:15.92\00:34:19.32 For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah 00:34:19.35\00:34:21.72 of which tribe Moses spoke nothing 00:34:21.76\00:34:24.13 concerning the priesthood." 00:34:24.16\00:34:25.59 Now let's get down to the very fact. 00:34:25.63\00:34:27.36 So out of what tribe did Jesus come? 00:34:27.40\00:34:29.93 Hebrews 7:1-3, 00:34:29.96\00:34:32.23 "For this, Melchizedek, king of Salem, 00:34:32.27\00:34:34.64 priest of the Most High who met Abraham 00:34:34.67\00:34:37.04 returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him." 00:34:37.07\00:34:40.44 This is the tribe that Jesus came out of. 00:34:40.48\00:34:43.71 I'm gonna make it very clear. 00:34:43.75\00:34:45.08 So I could run down to the very end of this. 00:34:45.11\00:34:46.82 Jesus is a priest after the order of Melchizedek. 00:34:46.85\00:34:52.29 And when you read about Melchizedek, 00:34:52.32\00:34:54.22 he's referred to as the king of righteousness 00:34:54.26\00:34:56.89 and in verse 3 of Hebrew 7 00:34:56.93\00:34:59.09 without beginning of days and without end of life, 00:34:59.13\00:35:03.10 and He remains a priest continually all forever. 00:35:03.13\00:35:07.17 The only way that we can have a permanent priesthood 00:35:07.20\00:35:11.07 is we have to have one who liveth forever. 00:35:11.11\00:35:13.68 And Jesus is He that ever liveth 00:35:13.71\00:35:16.41 to make intercession for us. 00:35:16.44\00:35:20.35 Amen. Amen. 00:35:20.38\00:35:21.88 Well, moving to Wednesday's portion, 00:35:21.92\00:35:25.35 the title is A Better Covenant, 00:35:25.39\00:35:29.29 and this title is taken from 00:35:29.32\00:35:31.73 the fact that in the Book of Hebrews, 00:35:31.76\00:35:33.46 it actually calls 00:35:33.50\00:35:34.83 the New Covenant a better covenant. 00:35:34.86\00:35:38.33 But as you compare the Old Covenant, 00:35:38.37\00:35:40.24 the New Covenant, the bottom line is that 00:35:40.27\00:35:41.64 salvation is by faith in a God who will forgive our sins. 00:35:41.67\00:35:47.01 Not because of anything worthwhile in us, 00:35:47.04\00:35:49.08 but only because of His grace. 00:35:49.11\00:35:52.25 So the question that is asked in the lesson 00:35:52.28\00:35:55.68 is where did the fault lie? 00:35:55.72\00:35:57.92 What's the failure of the Old Covenant? 00:35:57.95\00:36:01.46 Hebrews 8:7-8, 00:36:01.49\00:36:03.93 "For if the first covenant had been faultless, 00:36:03.96\00:36:08.00 then no place would have been sought 00:36:08.03\00:36:10.00 for a second 00:36:10.03\00:36:11.63 because finding fault with them, 00:36:11.67\00:36:14.20 He says, behold, 00:36:14.24\00:36:15.57 the days are coming, says the Lord 00:36:15.60\00:36:16.94 when I will make a New Covenant 00:36:16.97\00:36:18.31 with the house of Israel 00:36:18.34\00:36:19.77 and with the house of Judah." 00:36:19.81\00:36:21.54 So it was not a fault with the covenant, 00:36:21.58\00:36:25.11 but a fault with them. 00:36:25.15\00:36:27.65 Why? 00:36:27.68\00:36:29.02 Hebrews 4:2 helps us 00:36:29.05\00:36:30.85 with the answer to that question. 00:36:30.89\00:36:33.72 "For indeed the gospel was preached to us 00:36:33.76\00:36:36.86 as well as to them, 00:36:36.89\00:36:38.76 but the word which they heard did not profit them, 00:36:38.79\00:36:42.36 not being mixed with faith in those who heard it." 00:36:42.40\00:36:46.50 So we see then that it is because 00:36:46.53\00:36:49.24 they did not mix their experience with faith. 00:36:49.27\00:36:53.34 So it has been asked before we ask again, 00:36:53.38\00:36:56.38 why then was the first covenant made? 00:36:56.41\00:37:00.88 The answer is, for the same reason 00:37:00.92\00:37:02.88 that the law was presented as Sinai 00:37:02.92\00:37:05.65 because of sin. 00:37:05.69\00:37:08.46 So I'm gonna read to you 00:37:08.49\00:37:09.82 that is directly from the lesson. 00:37:09.86\00:37:12.63 The problem with the Old Covenant 00:37:12.66\00:37:14.43 was not the covenant itself, 00:37:14.46\00:37:16.03 but with the failure of the people 00:37:16.06\00:37:17.60 to grasp it in faith. 00:37:17.63\00:37:19.23 Hebrews 4:2. 00:37:19.27\00:37:20.60 The superiority of the New Covenant 00:37:20.64\00:37:22.54 to the old lies in that Jesus, 00:37:22.57\00:37:26.17 instead of being revealed 00:37:26.21\00:37:27.71 only through the animal sacrifices, 00:37:27.74\00:37:30.28 as in the Old Covenant now appears in the reality 00:37:30.31\00:37:34.58 of his death and high priestly ministry. 00:37:34.62\00:37:37.99 In other words, the salvation offered in the Old Covenant 00:37:38.02\00:37:41.86 is the same offered in the new. 00:37:41.89\00:37:45.03 Faith and the sacrifice that God provided. 00:37:45.06\00:37:49.36 So in what way is it better? 00:37:49.40\00:37:51.83 It is better in that everything that has been taught 00:37:51.87\00:37:55.27 through symbols and types in the Old Testament 00:37:55.30\00:37:58.17 has found His fulfillment in Jesus. 00:37:58.21\00:38:01.84 It all pointed to Jesus, the Lamb of God 00:38:01.88\00:38:04.68 that takes away the sin of the world. 00:38:04.71\00:38:08.42 I'm moving now to Hebrews 8:1-2, 00:38:08.45\00:38:11.65 follow me along. 00:38:11.69\00:38:13.49 The New Covenant has a true tabernacle. 00:38:13.52\00:38:16.89 Now it says in Hebrews 8:1-2. 00:38:16.93\00:38:19.39 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying. 00:38:19.43\00:38:23.87 We have such a high priest 00:38:23.90\00:38:26.74 who is seated at the right hand of the throne 00:38:26.77\00:38:29.27 of the majesty in the heavens, 00:38:29.30\00:38:30.94 a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle, 00:38:30.97\00:38:36.75 which the Lord erected and not man. 00:38:36.78\00:38:38.81 In other words, the sanctuary on earth 00:38:38.85\00:38:41.55 was just a shadow, 00:38:41.58\00:38:42.92 a copy of the true tabernacle, 00:38:42.95\00:38:44.95 which was, which is in heaven 00:38:44.99\00:38:47.76 of which Jesus Christ is the high priest. 00:38:47.79\00:38:50.29 And you're gonna hear more about that in a moment. 00:38:50.33\00:38:51.96 And I know you're just waiting for that moment, 00:38:51.99\00:38:54.20 but let's go to Hebrews 9:8-14. 00:38:54.23\00:38:57.87 I'm gonna read it quickly because time is moving. 00:38:57.90\00:39:01.47 Verse 8, 00:39:01.50\00:39:02.84 "The Holy Spirit indicating this, 00:39:02.87\00:39:04.84 that the way into the Holiest of All 00:39:04.87\00:39:07.54 was not yet made manifest 00:39:07.58\00:39:09.78 while the first tabernacle was still standing. 00:39:09.81\00:39:13.21 It was symbolic for the present time 00:39:13.25\00:39:15.25 in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered 00:39:15.28\00:39:17.85 which cannot make who performed the service perfect 00:39:17.89\00:39:20.62 in regard to the conscience. 00:39:20.66\00:39:22.49 Concerned only with foods and drinks, various washings, 00:39:22.52\00:39:25.19 and fleshly ordinances 00:39:25.23\00:39:26.80 imposed until the time of reformation." 00:39:26.83\00:39:29.60 You've heard this before. 00:39:29.63\00:39:31.30 "But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, 00:39:31.33\00:39:36.20 with the greater and more perfect tabernacle 00:39:36.24\00:39:38.94 not made with hands, that is, 00:39:38.97\00:39:40.54 not of this creation, not of this world. 00:39:40.58\00:39:44.08 Not with the blood of goats and calves, 00:39:44.11\00:39:46.28 but with His own blood 00:39:46.31\00:39:48.02 He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, 00:39:48.05\00:39:51.89 having obtained eternal redemption. 00:39:51.92\00:39:54.96 "Praise God. 00:39:54.99\00:39:56.56 Now notice verse 13. 00:39:56.59\00:39:57.93 This has to be very clear. 00:39:57.96\00:39:59.33 "For if the blood of bulls and goats 00:39:59.36\00:40:01.10 and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, 00:40:01.13\00:40:03.80 sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 00:40:03.83\00:40:06.57 how much more shall the blood of Christ, 00:40:06.60\00:40:10.37 who through the eternal Spirit 00:40:10.41\00:40:11.97 offered Himself without spot to God, 00:40:12.01\00:40:15.38 cleanse your conscience from dead works 00:40:15.41\00:40:17.78 to serve the living God?" 00:40:17.81\00:40:20.48 And see, we want to underline and highlight 00:40:20.52\00:40:24.92 that there has always been only one way to be saved, 00:40:24.95\00:40:29.59 through Jesus Christ. 00:40:29.62\00:40:31.29 I'm going to Acts 4:12, 00:40:31.33\00:40:33.36 and we'll come back in a moment to Hebrews Chapter 10. 00:40:33.40\00:40:35.66 Acts 4:12, 00:40:35.70\00:40:37.57 "Nor is there salvation in any other, 00:40:37.60\00:40:41.47 for there is no other name under heaven given among men 00:40:41.50\00:40:45.37 by which we must be saved." 00:40:45.41\00:40:47.28 That is only through Jesus Christ. 00:40:47.31\00:40:50.68 Hebrews Chapter 10. 00:40:50.71\00:40:53.31 This has already been read. 00:40:53.35\00:40:55.02 We're just gonna highlight that it was those sacrifices 00:40:55.05\00:40:59.09 that were offered, they had to be remembered 00:40:59.12\00:41:03.56 once a year on the Day of Atonement. 00:41:03.59\00:41:06.29 Let's go to Colossians 2:14 quickly, 00:41:06.33\00:41:10.33 for the purpose of underlying something here. 00:41:10.37\00:41:12.60 "Having wiped out the handwriting of requirements 00:41:12.63\00:41:15.50 or ordinances 00:41:15.54\00:41:16.87 that was against us, which was contrary to us. 00:41:16.91\00:41:20.28 And He has taken it out of the way, 00:41:20.31\00:41:22.61 having nailed it to the cross." 00:41:22.64\00:41:24.35 Those are the sacrificial issues 00:41:24.38\00:41:27.62 concerning the Old Covenant. 00:41:27.65\00:41:31.12 All those sacrifices no longer need to be done 00:41:31.15\00:41:35.49 because Jesus Christ, the true sacrifice 00:41:35.52\00:41:38.06 has died for us on the cross. 00:41:38.09\00:41:41.26 He is the true sacrifice for us. 00:41:41.30\00:41:44.07 He is the only one 00:41:44.10\00:41:45.77 that it is only through the blood of Jesus 00:41:45.80\00:41:48.00 that we can be saved. 00:41:48.04\00:41:50.07 So this is why it's a better covenant 00:41:50.11\00:41:53.17 because it fulfills the requirement. 00:41:53.21\00:41:56.28 Hebrews 10:7-12, it says, 00:41:56.31\00:41:59.38 "Then I said, 'Behold, I have come in the... 00:41:59.41\00:42:02.42 I will come in the volume of the book 00:42:02.45\00:42:03.95 it is written of Me to do Your will, O God." 00:42:03.99\00:42:07.49 Previously saying sacrifice and offerings, 00:42:07.52\00:42:11.43 burnt offerings and offerings for sin, 00:42:11.46\00:42:13.80 You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them, 00:42:13.83\00:42:17.40 which are offered according to the law. 00:42:17.43\00:42:19.53 Then He said, 00:42:19.57\00:42:20.90 'Behold, I have come. 00:42:20.94\00:42:22.27 I come to do Your will, O God. 00:42:22.30\00:42:24.34 He takes away the first 00:42:24.37\00:42:26.64 that He may establish the second. 00:42:26.68\00:42:29.91 The New Covenant. 00:42:29.94\00:42:31.28 By the will, we have been sanctified through the offering 00:42:31.31\00:42:34.58 of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." 00:42:34.62\00:42:38.22 No more sacrifices need to be done. 00:42:38.25\00:42:40.76 Jesus has fulfilled them. 00:42:40.79\00:42:42.42 And every priest stands ministering daily 00:42:42.46\00:42:46.36 and offering repeated... 00:42:46.39\00:42:47.93 Repeatedly the same sacrifices, 00:42:47.96\00:42:49.83 which can never take away sins. 00:42:49.86\00:42:52.00 Anyone that offers sacrifices for their sins 00:42:52.03\00:42:56.81 has no value whatsoever at all, 00:42:56.84\00:43:00.48 because the true sacrifice Jesus Christ has come. 00:43:00.51\00:43:03.24 So if the Jews or anyone else builds altars, 00:43:03.28\00:43:07.32 builds a temple to try to sacrifice, 00:43:07.35\00:43:10.59 no value before God whatsoever, 00:43:10.62\00:43:12.92 because it is only through the blood of Jesus Christ. 00:43:12.95\00:43:15.49 Verse 12, 00:43:15.52\00:43:16.86 "But this Man, Jesus, 00:43:16.89\00:43:18.39 after He had offered 00:43:18.43\00:43:19.76 one sacrifice for sins for forever, 00:43:19.79\00:43:22.63 sat down at the right hand of God." 00:43:22.66\00:43:26.27 So now, instead of symbols, 00:43:26.30\00:43:28.34 as it says in the lesson types and examples, 00:43:28.37\00:43:31.01 we have Jesus Himself. 00:43:31.04\00:43:33.81 And so, I move now to Hebrews 7:22-25. 00:43:33.84\00:43:38.01 A lot of scriptures, write them all down. 00:43:38.05\00:43:40.18 It's too late now, 00:43:40.22\00:43:41.72 but I hope you can rewind the tape as they say. 00:43:41.75\00:43:43.95 Hebrews 7:22-25, 00:43:43.99\00:43:46.35 "By so much more Jesus 00:43:46.39\00:43:49.56 has become a surety of a better covenant. 00:43:49.59\00:43:53.83 Also, there were many priests 00:43:53.86\00:43:55.66 because they were prevented by death from continuing. 00:43:55.70\00:43:58.73 But He, because He continues forever, 00:43:58.77\00:44:01.60 has an unchangeable priesthood. 00:44:01.64\00:44:04.04 Therefore He is able to save to the uttermost 00:44:04.07\00:44:08.11 those who come to God through Him, 00:44:08.14\00:44:11.15 since He always lives 00:44:11.18\00:44:13.85 to make intercession for them." 00:44:13.88\00:44:17.25 So it is a better covenant because it has Jesus in it. 00:44:17.29\00:44:22.69 The true Lamb of God 00:44:22.72\00:44:24.66 that takes away the sin of the world. 00:44:24.69\00:44:28.13 And I don't know if you're gonna touch on this, 00:44:28.16\00:44:30.47 but I'm gonna read it really quick 00:44:30.50\00:44:31.87 and you can put some more meat on it. 00:44:31.90\00:44:33.77 How about that? Okay. 00:44:33.80\00:44:35.14 Hebrews 4:14-16, 00:44:35.17\00:44:37.51 "Seeing then that we have a great High Priest 00:44:37.54\00:44:40.81 who has passed through the heavens, 00:44:40.84\00:44:42.68 Jesus the Son of God, 00:44:42.71\00:44:44.18 let us hold fast our confession. 00:44:44.21\00:44:47.28 For we do not have a High Priest 00:44:47.32\00:44:48.65 who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, 00:44:48.68\00:44:51.15 but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 00:44:51.19\00:44:56.12 Let us therefore come boldly with confidence 00:44:56.16\00:45:00.53 to the throne of grace, 00:45:00.56\00:45:01.90 that we may obtain mercy and find grace 00:45:01.93\00:45:04.67 to help in time of need." 00:45:04.70\00:45:07.00 Praise be to God. 00:45:07.04\00:45:08.64 And He is able to say to the uttermost, 00:45:08.67\00:45:10.57 the worst of sinners. 00:45:10.61\00:45:12.74 I don't care how many sins you have done. 00:45:12.77\00:45:14.71 They can be forgiven through Jesus Christ. 00:45:14.74\00:45:16.64 Come to Him with sincerity of heart 00:45:16.68\00:45:19.41 and you will be forgiven and accepted. 00:45:19.45\00:45:22.18 Hmm. 00:45:22.22\00:45:23.55 Amen. 00:45:23.59\00:45:24.92 So I'm looking down here at my lesson 00:45:24.95\00:45:26.29 and pastor stepping all over my scriptures 00:45:26.32\00:45:28.96 and Pastor John Dinzey stepping all over my scripture. 00:45:28.99\00:45:31.53 So it just kind of... 00:45:31.56\00:45:32.89 It's great for do have repetition, 00:45:32.93\00:45:34.46 but as I'm going through this, I'm realizing 00:45:34.50\00:45:35.86 there's so many different angles to go with this. 00:45:35.90\00:45:37.67 So I almost kind of deviated and wrote, 00:45:37.70\00:45:41.20 rewrote my own message here to kind of fit the theme. 00:45:41.24\00:45:43.67 'Cause there was other scriptures that I believe 00:45:43.71\00:45:45.31 really, really fits this theme, 00:45:45.34\00:45:47.08 but there's also gonna be some texts 00:45:47.11\00:45:48.44 we're gonna repeat as well. 00:45:48.48\00:45:50.18 This is obviously Thursday's lesson, 00:45:50.21\00:45:52.35 The New Covenant Priest. 00:45:52.38\00:45:54.12 So this is emphasizing what has already been heard. 00:45:54.15\00:45:57.25 You've heard many times already that Christ is our high priest. 00:45:57.29\00:46:00.66 There's no escaping that. 00:46:00.69\00:46:02.39 And the lesson brings this out. 00:46:02.42\00:46:03.93 It says, "The Book of Hebrews places a heavy emphasis 00:46:03.96\00:46:06.70 on Jesus as our high priest in the heavenly sanctuary." 00:46:06.73\00:46:10.40 In fact, the clearest exposition 00:46:10.43\00:46:11.80 of the New Covenant 00:46:11.83\00:46:13.17 found in the New Testament 00:46:13.20\00:46:14.54 appears in the Book of Hebrews 00:46:14.57\00:46:16.74 with its emphasis on Christ as high priest. 00:46:16.77\00:46:20.01 This is no coincidence. 00:46:20.04\00:46:21.54 Christ heavenly ministry is intrinsically... 00:46:21.58\00:46:25.28 Intricately, excuse me, 00:46:25.31\00:46:27.68 tied to promises of the New Covenant. 00:46:27.72\00:46:30.19 As you have heard all of the... 00:46:30.22\00:46:32.05 Well you guys were like rapid fire through Hebrews. 00:46:32.09\00:46:34.06 I think we just covered the entire Book of Hebrews 00:46:34.09\00:46:36.29 all in just like 20 minutes just then. 00:46:36.32\00:46:38.29 It goes on to say, 00:46:38.33\00:46:39.66 "The Old Testament sanctuary service was the means 00:46:39.69\00:46:41.46 by which the Old Covenant truths were taught. 00:46:41.50\00:46:44.40 It's centered around sacrifices and mediation. 00:46:44.43\00:46:47.40 Animals were slain 00:46:47.44\00:46:48.77 and their blood was mediated by the priest. 00:46:48.80\00:46:51.27 These, of course, were all symbols of the salvation 00:46:51.31\00:46:55.28 found only in Jesus. 00:46:55.31\00:46:57.68 There was no salvation found in them 00:46:57.71\00:47:00.72 and in and of themselves. 00:47:00.75\00:47:02.52 And as you heard very clearly, 00:47:02.55\00:47:04.05 the Bible makes this very clear. 00:47:04.09\00:47:05.59 Of course, Hebrews 10:4 makes it very, very clear. 00:47:05.62\00:47:09.59 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls 00:47:09.62\00:47:12.26 and goats could take away sins. 00:47:12.29\00:47:14.36 And there may be someone watching and says, 00:47:14.40\00:47:15.73 "Wait, hold on. 00:47:15.76\00:47:17.10 It's not possible, then why in the world 00:47:17.13\00:47:18.53 did the Lord choose to use animals, 00:47:18.57\00:47:21.94 you know, if it cannot take away the sin? 00:47:21.97\00:47:23.84 Obviously, as it has been emphasized, many times 00:47:23.87\00:47:26.07 these were symbols. 00:47:26.11\00:47:27.44 In fact, I would like to go to Exodus 12 real quick. 00:47:27.48\00:47:29.21 I wanna just show this because many people say, 00:47:29.24\00:47:31.31 well, why did the Lord... 00:47:31.35\00:47:32.68 Why in the Lord... 00:47:32.71\00:47:34.05 Why in the world would the Lord used animals 00:47:34.08\00:47:35.88 as a symbol? 00:47:35.92\00:47:37.25 And I think that there's needs to be meaning tied to this. 00:47:37.29\00:47:39.89 And, of course, if you were in the situation 00:47:39.92\00:47:42.02 where you had to take the life of an innocent animal, 00:47:42.06\00:47:44.63 that is symbolic for something, 00:47:44.66\00:47:46.16 there was lots of meaning tied to this. 00:47:46.19\00:47:47.66 So Exodus Chapter 12, of course, 00:47:47.70\00:47:49.46 this particular series of text 00:47:49.50\00:47:51.37 is in the context of the Passover. 00:47:51.40\00:47:53.40 But I just wanna read this really quickly. 00:47:53.44\00:47:55.04 Exodus Chapter 12, beginning with verse 3. 00:47:55.07\00:47:56.84 The Lord says, 00:47:56.87\00:47:58.21 "Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: 00:47:58.24\00:47:59.97 'On the tenth of this month 00:48:00.01\00:48:01.34 every man shall take for himself a lamb." 00:48:01.38\00:48:04.48 Of course, we know that lamb to be representative of Jesus. 00:48:04.51\00:48:07.38 And He goes on to say, 00:48:07.42\00:48:08.75 "According to the house of his father, 00:48:08.78\00:48:10.12 a lamb for a household. 00:48:10.15\00:48:11.49 And if the household be too small for the lamb, 00:48:11.52\00:48:14.46 let him and his neighbor next to his house take it 00:48:14.49\00:48:17.09 according to the number of the persons, 00:48:17.13\00:48:18.86 according to each man's need, 00:48:18.89\00:48:20.63 you shall make your count for the lamb." 00:48:20.66\00:48:23.16 And then verse 5 and 6 here says, 00:48:23.20\00:48:24.60 "Your lamb shall be without blemish." 00:48:24.63\00:48:27.47 Who does that... Who does that remind you of? 00:48:27.50\00:48:29.10 Obviously, Jesus Christ, now our high priest 00:48:29.14\00:48:31.77 without blemish, He is perfect. 00:48:31.81\00:48:33.38 His sacrifice was perfect. 00:48:33.41\00:48:35.04 It's says, "A male of the first year, 00:48:35.08\00:48:36.41 you may take it from the sheep or from the goats." 00:48:36.44\00:48:38.45 Now notice verse 6 here. 00:48:38.48\00:48:39.81 It says, "Now you shall keep it until the 14th day 00:48:39.85\00:48:42.42 of the same month. 00:48:42.45\00:48:43.79 Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel 00:48:43.82\00:48:45.82 shall kill it at twilight." 00:48:45.85\00:48:47.86 So they would go out 00:48:47.89\00:48:49.22 and they would go out on the 10th day of the month. 00:48:49.26\00:48:51.43 They would go and choose this perfect unblemished lamb, 00:48:51.46\00:48:54.96 of course, all pointing to Christ. 00:48:55.00\00:48:56.36 They would bring it into their home 00:48:56.40\00:48:57.83 for about three and a half days. 00:48:57.87\00:48:59.37 Because by the point they brought it in 00:48:59.40\00:49:01.24 and they killed it at twilight, 00:49:01.27\00:49:02.80 it would be about three and a half days 00:49:02.84\00:49:04.84 pointing to the three and a half year ministry 00:49:04.87\00:49:06.78 of Jesus Christ. 00:49:06.81\00:49:08.24 But here's the thing, 00:49:08.28\00:49:09.61 they would bring that into the home. 00:49:09.64\00:49:10.98 And you could imagine 00:49:11.01\00:49:12.35 the family would get used to it. 00:49:12.38\00:49:13.72 They would feed it. They would nurture it. 00:49:13.75\00:49:15.08 The kids would play with it. 00:49:15.12\00:49:16.45 When they would have to take that lamb out 00:49:16.48\00:49:17.82 and they would have to slaughter that lamb. 00:49:17.85\00:49:19.19 It's pointing us to the fact that Jesus Christ is our lamb 00:49:19.22\00:49:21.76 and His sacrifice should mean something to us. 00:49:21.79\00:49:25.36 It meant something to this family 00:49:25.39\00:49:26.96 to have to take the life of this innocent lamb. 00:49:27.00\00:49:29.16 And that's what this is all about. 00:49:29.20\00:49:30.70 It's saying, not in that lamb in and of itself, 00:49:30.73\00:49:33.23 did that animal take away the sin, 00:49:33.27\00:49:35.74 but what it represents. 00:49:35.77\00:49:37.21 Jesus Christ, our high priest 00:49:37.24\00:49:39.37 of course was also our sacrifice. 00:49:39.41\00:49:41.94 Of course, this is what Hebrews Chapter 8 verses, uh, 00:49:41.98\00:49:44.41 excuse me, 10:8-10 is bringing out as well. 00:49:44.45\00:49:48.05 It says there in Hebrews 10:8-10, 00:49:48.08\00:49:51.25 "Previously saying, 'Sacrifice and offering, 00:49:51.29\00:49:53.66 burnt offerings and offerings for sin, 00:49:53.69\00:49:55.72 You did not desire nor had pleasure in them." 00:49:55.76\00:49:58.63 Of course, they didn't have pleasure, right? 00:49:58.66\00:50:00.00 We just read about it. 00:50:00.03\00:50:01.36 It's horrible thing to even have to think 00:50:01.40\00:50:02.80 about someone doing. 00:50:02.83\00:50:04.17 But he says, "You did not have pleasure in them. 00:50:04.20\00:50:05.77 We are offered according to the law 00:50:05.80\00:50:07.57 or which were offered according to the law." 00:50:07.60\00:50:09.44 Verse 9, 00:50:09.47\00:50:10.81 "Then He said, 00:50:10.84\00:50:12.17 'Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God. 00:50:12.21\00:50:13.68 He takes away the first 00:50:13.71\00:50:15.88 and that He may establish the second. 00:50:15.91\00:50:18.55 By that we will have... 00:50:18.58\00:50:20.82 By that, will we have been sanctified 00:50:20.85\00:50:23.72 through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ 00:50:23.75\00:50:27.02 once and for all. 00:50:27.06\00:50:28.66 So Jesus is that final sacrifice. 00:50:28.69\00:50:31.23 He is now our high priest, Hebrews 9:26. 00:50:31.26\00:50:34.96 And we're gonna come back to Hebrews 9 in a moment, 00:50:35.00\00:50:36.97 but it says here in Hebrews 9:26, 00:50:37.00\00:50:39.13 again, emphasizing this same point. 00:50:39.17\00:50:41.80 He then would have to... 00:50:41.84\00:50:43.27 "Would have had to suffer 00:50:43.30\00:50:44.71 often since the foundation of the world, 00:50:44.74\00:50:47.18 but now once at the end of the ages, 00:50:47.21\00:50:49.84 He has appeared to put away sin 00:50:49.88\00:50:51.55 by the sacrifice of Himself." 00:50:51.58\00:50:54.75 Of course, all of this is pointing us kind of back. 00:50:54.78\00:50:57.79 We're here in Hebrews, New Testament 00:50:57.82\00:50:59.95 and we're looking back 00:50:59.99\00:51:01.32 all the way back to Genesis 3:15. 00:51:01.36\00:51:03.83 This is Jesus Christ that same Seed, 00:51:03.86\00:51:05.83 that powerful Seed, 00:51:05.86\00:51:07.46 which the covenant spoke about, 00:51:07.50\00:51:08.83 which the covenant is all about. 00:51:08.86\00:51:10.40 And He offered Himself to be that sacrifice for us. 00:51:10.43\00:51:14.64 In fact, this also reminds me 00:51:14.67\00:51:16.97 of the beautiful promise that we have, 00:51:17.01\00:51:19.54 or that was given to Israel 00:51:19.57\00:51:21.21 in the prophecy of Daniel Chapter 9. 00:51:21.24\00:51:23.68 If you go back and study this prophecy of the 70 weeks 00:51:23.71\00:51:26.58 there in Daniel Chapter 9, 00:51:26.61\00:51:28.58 he was told that 70 weeks are determined for your people. 00:51:28.62\00:51:31.32 And there's six things listed there. 00:51:31.35\00:51:32.82 They were to anoint the Most Holy, 00:51:32.85\00:51:34.62 they were to be ready to receive as a nation 00:51:34.66\00:51:37.16 Jesus Christ as their Messiah. 00:51:37.19\00:51:39.96 And notice what it says in Daniel 9:27, it says, 00:51:40.00\00:51:43.26 "Then he shall confirm, that's Christ, 00:51:43.30\00:51:45.67 He shall confirm a," what? 00:51:45.70\00:51:47.40 "A covenant." Which covenant? 00:51:47.44\00:51:50.14 Which covenant? 00:51:50.17\00:51:51.51 The everlasting covenant. 00:51:51.54\00:51:52.87 We're going back to Genesis 3:15. 00:51:52.91\00:51:55.18 We're going back to Christ as that coming Seed. 00:51:55.21\00:51:58.41 And here it is, He shall confirm a covenant 00:51:58.45\00:52:00.22 with many for one week, 00:52:00.25\00:52:01.58 but in the middle of that week, 00:52:01.62\00:52:02.95 He shall bring it in to sacrifice an offering. 00:52:02.98\00:52:05.99 And what breaks my heart is there is, 00:52:06.02\00:52:08.09 you know, it's just the truth. 00:52:08.12\00:52:09.46 There's many, many people in the world 00:52:09.49\00:52:10.83 that do not accept. 00:52:10.86\00:52:12.19 We have a whole nation of Orthodox Jews 00:52:12.23\00:52:13.56 that don't accept Christ as the Messiah. 00:52:13.60\00:52:16.20 And it's interesting because right now, 00:52:16.23\00:52:18.37 if you go over to Israel, 00:52:18.40\00:52:19.77 the number one law that governs that culture, 00:52:19.80\00:52:22.50 that governs that religion is known as the Talmudic law 00:52:22.54\00:52:25.97 and within the Talmud law, 00:52:26.01\00:52:27.34 there's something there 00:52:27.38\00:52:28.71 that a lot of people are not aware of. 00:52:28.74\00:52:30.08 I think I've brought this out before, 00:52:30.11\00:52:31.45 but for the purpose of this lesson, 00:52:31.48\00:52:32.81 I wanna repeat it because I find it significant, 00:52:32.85\00:52:34.55 Notice that the enemy is behind trying to eclipse 00:52:34.58\00:52:38.15 and keep Christ as Messiah 00:52:38.19\00:52:40.86 and High Priest from His people. 00:52:40.89\00:52:43.09 And so this is something that is known 00:52:43.12\00:52:44.46 as the rabbinic curse 00:52:44.49\00:52:46.33 and notice what this says in the rabbinic curse 00:52:46.36\00:52:48.50 within the Talmudic law. 00:52:48.53\00:52:50.07 It's says, "May the bones of the hands 00:52:50.10\00:52:51.47 and the bones of the fingers 00:52:51.50\00:52:52.93 decay and decompose of him 00:52:52.97\00:52:55.20 who turns the pages of the Book of Daniel, 00:52:55.24\00:52:58.24 to find out the time of Daniel 9:24 to 27 00:52:58.27\00:53:02.88 and may his memory rot 00:53:02.91\00:53:04.25 from off the face of the earth forever." 00:53:04.28\00:53:07.15 You have an entire nation of Orthodox Jews 00:53:07.18\00:53:10.29 even still to this day 00:53:10.32\00:53:11.85 that will not study the scriptures, 00:53:11.89\00:53:15.02 more specifically Daniel 9:24-27. 00:53:15.06\00:53:17.99 Why? 00:53:18.03\00:53:19.49 Because it points to He 00:53:19.53\00:53:20.86 who came to confirm the covenant. 00:53:20.90\00:53:23.40 And in the midst of that week, 00:53:23.43\00:53:25.07 He brought them into sacrifices and offerings 00:53:25.10\00:53:28.34 pointing to Himself as the Messiah, 00:53:28.37\00:53:31.17 the coming High Priest that is now transitioned 00:53:31.21\00:53:33.94 into the heavenly sanctuary. 00:53:33.98\00:53:35.31 This is powerful. 00:53:35.34\00:53:36.68 In fact, Matthew 27:51, we've read it many times. 00:53:36.71\00:53:40.45 It says, "And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice 00:53:40.48\00:53:42.48 and yielded up His spirit. 00:53:42.52\00:53:43.92 He died on the cross." 00:53:43.95\00:53:45.29 And then it says in verse 51, 00:53:45.32\00:53:46.79 "Then behold, the veil of the temple 00:53:46.82\00:53:48.52 was torn into from top to bottom. 00:53:48.56\00:53:52.03 And at that moment, the historian Josephus writes 00:53:52.06\00:53:54.76 that the high priest Caiaphas 00:53:54.80\00:53:56.46 came out of the temple at that time, 00:53:56.50\00:53:58.07 as he was about to bring the knife down on that lamb, 00:53:58.10\00:54:00.44 when really the true lamb of God 00:54:00.47\00:54:02.10 had already given His life up on the... 00:54:02.14\00:54:04.14 Upon Golgotha's Hill 00:54:04.17\00:54:05.97 and out comes the high priest Caiaphas 00:54:06.01\00:54:08.38 screaming to the top of his lungs, 00:54:08.41\00:54:09.91 Ichabod, Ichabod, 00:54:09.94\00:54:11.48 signaling that the glory of the Lord 00:54:11.51\00:54:13.72 had left the temple, 00:54:13.75\00:54:15.12 because Christ was the ultimate fulfillment. 00:54:15.15\00:54:17.45 In bringing that veil, the temple veil 00:54:17.49\00:54:20.82 was torn from top to bottom, 00:54:20.86\00:54:22.42 signifying that Jesus Christ is the completion of all 00:54:22.46\00:54:25.93 to the sacrificial system 00:54:25.96\00:54:27.30 that now His ministry has changed. 00:54:27.33\00:54:29.33 He's no longer that sacrifice anymore. 00:54:29.36\00:54:32.13 He's completed the sacrifice. 00:54:32.17\00:54:33.67 Now He is in the heavenly sanctuary 00:54:33.70\00:54:36.87 ministering on our behalf. 00:54:36.91\00:54:38.37 I wanna end with Hebrews 9:11-12. 00:54:38.41\00:54:41.78 This is a powerful text 00:54:41.81\00:54:43.21 that I believe really solidifies this. 00:54:43.24\00:54:45.31 Hebrews 9:11-12, 00:54:45.35\00:54:46.95 "but Christ being come on... 00:54:46.98\00:54:48.98 Become a high priest of good things to come 00:54:49.02\00:54:51.92 by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, 00:54:51.95\00:54:54.49 not made with hands," 00:54:54.52\00:54:55.89 that is to say not of this building, 00:54:55.92\00:54:58.59 "neither by the blood of goats and calves, 00:54:58.63\00:55:00.96 but by His own blood, He entered once into the," 00:55:01.00\00:55:05.60 and I'm reading the King James Version, 00:55:05.63\00:55:07.14 which I believe is a more accurate translation here. 00:55:07.17\00:55:09.97 "He entered once into the Holy Place, 00:55:10.01\00:55:13.68 having obtained eternal redemption for us." 00:55:13.71\00:55:17.31 Praise the Lord 00:55:17.35\00:55:18.68 that we have a high priest, Jesus Christ, 00:55:18.71\00:55:20.55 who still ministering for us today. 00:55:20.58\00:55:22.52 He is the New Covenant high priest 00:55:22.55\00:55:25.65 Jesus Christ our Lord. 00:55:25.69\00:55:27.02 Amen. 00:55:27.06\00:55:28.39 Amen.
