that the Lord established,

We find that all
through the Bible,

only been one covenant

confirmed and reaffirmed that

covenant from
generation to generation

up until the point
where we have the phrase

the New Covenant

in the Book of
Hebrews Chapter 10.

And we find today that
in all of this law keeping,

we have to understand that

without the law,

there will be no need for grace.

I want to make that very clear.

So when we talk
about the covenant

and the Ten Commandments is,

in fact, the
transcript of God's covenant,

but even more than that,

the transcript of His character.

We have to understand
where there is no law,

there is no need for grace.

Now let me not run past that

because somebody
watching might say,

but doesn't the Bible say

we're saved by
grace through faith

and that not of ourselves.

It is a gift of God,

not of works, lest
anyone should boast.

That's completely true.

And we embrace and believe that

in fact God's Word,

But would you need
grace if there was no law?

Let me give one
quick illustration.

As I say, confession
is good for the soul,

heart and the reputation.

A couple of years ago,
well, actually in 2006,

I was driving to New York,

and I was going to
clean out my dad's apartment.

He had passed away.

He lived downtown New York
City and I was driving my SUV.

My wife was with me.

This was before they had
those little portable GPSs

that you put on the dashboard.

As a matter of fact,

I had my big old honking laptop,

in my center console.

And I was trying
to look at my speed

and what direction to go.

It was an archaic,

it on cell phones.

small dashboard GPSs,

but I'm looking at my laptop,

driving, looking, driving.

And I kept going
faster and faster and faster

through the state of Indiana,

I was going 87 miles an hour
when I saw a highway patrolman

and he was blocked by
this large trailer truck.

So as, as I came
around the curve there he was,

and his lights
came on immediately.

Well, I decided to slow down

because I knew
he wasn't coming out

to give me a

He was coming out
to have a conversation.

but he pulled over and he says,

And he looked over
and he saw my laptop.

"I was trying to figure
out what exit to get off next,"

'cause I was
getting close to the exit.

He said, "Do you realize
how fast you were going?"

So I want you
to understand today

when we talk about
the election of grace.

Grace has never been
separated from the law of God.

As a matter of fact,

very powerful passages

on the context of grace and law
in the framework of salvation.

because the election of grace

that the Lord extends

to every one of us,

Let's start with that.

Notice what the
Lord says very clearly.

canonical representation

generation that grew up now

in the wilderness journey.

to the new generation,

the faithful God

who keeps covenant and mercy

for a thousand generations

"Keep His commandments."

That didn't even change

"If you love Me,

That didn't change

this covenant to a
thousand generations.

And I will tell you,

thousand generations

between this statement
and the statement of Jesus.

So the covenant
conditions haven't changed.

the law through faith?

Want to make a very
important point here.

We don't grow into
grace, we grow in grace.

A fish doesn't
swim into the sea,

it swims in the sea.

A plant doesn't
grow into the pot,

it grows in the pot.

We are growing in grace,
meaning we are in it already.

We don't get grace
more and more every day,

we are growing in that grace.

So why do we need
to grow in that grace?

Because we still
have this frail thing

called the human flesh.

We are not glorified yet.

We are still being sanctified.

for by grace are you saved,

So we need grace.

you're weak, but I'm perfect.

Now watch this.

He covers us in his salvation.

He imparts to us a strength

that we don't
even own or possess.

are, I'm still strong.

perfect in our weakness.

Now, why is Paul boasting?

I have access to a
power that never fails.

When I know I have
access to a righteousness

that God always sees as perfect,

and I'm covered by that.

It's like scaffolding.

We don't see the
house, we see the covering.

When the Lord covers
us with His righteousness,

for His perfect salvation

have to do with anything?

friends, when you fall,
