Amen. 00:02:22.04\00:02:23.37 Amen. 00:02:23.41\00:02:24.74 Yeah, let me give you a summary 00:02:24.77\00:02:26.11 of what we will be going through 00:02:26.14\00:02:27.48 in this study. 00:02:27.51\00:02:28.84 Because we want to give you a little taste 00:02:28.88\00:02:32.08 of what's going to be happening. 00:02:32.11\00:02:33.72 In this study, we're going to see 00:02:33.75\00:02:35.55 why did the Lord refer to Himself 00:02:35.58\00:02:38.25 as Abraham's shield? 00:02:38.29\00:02:40.19 How were all the families of the earth 00:02:40.22\00:02:42.56 to be blessed through Abraham? 00:02:42.59\00:02:44.93 And what is the greatest of all the covenant promises? 00:02:44.96\00:02:49.16 And so, I hope you have something 00:02:49.20\00:02:50.67 to write with in your Bible as we dig in to God's Word. 00:02:50.70\00:02:55.40 I would like to share with you a story 00:02:55.44\00:02:57.81 that is here in the lesson. 00:02:57.84\00:02:59.97 It's about a father and his 10-year-old daughter. 00:03:00.01\00:03:02.44 They were good swimmers, 00:03:02.48\00:03:03.81 but they decided to go out to the ocean and swim, 00:03:03.85\00:03:06.85 they were enjoying themselves, but 00:03:06.88\00:03:08.38 the tides started separating them. 00:03:08.42\00:03:11.45 And soon the father realized 00:03:11.49\00:03:13.05 that it was going to be very difficult for both of them 00:03:13.09\00:03:15.29 to make it to the shore together. 00:03:15.32\00:03:17.13 So he said to her, 00:03:17.16\00:03:18.49 "I am going to the shore to get help. 00:03:18.53\00:03:20.90 If you get tired, 00:03:20.93\00:03:22.26 just go on your back 00:03:22.30\00:03:23.63 and you can stay that way all day long. 00:03:23.67\00:03:27.00 And, of course, he started swimming 00:03:27.04\00:03:28.74 toward shore. 00:03:28.77\00:03:30.11 And she eventually got tired, 00:03:30.14\00:03:31.54 went on her back and really relaxed 00:03:31.57\00:03:33.91 as she just floated along in the ocean. 00:03:33.94\00:03:38.41 When the father got to the shore, 00:03:38.45\00:03:40.32 he had to get help. 00:03:40.35\00:03:41.68 There were people on boats, 00:03:41.72\00:03:43.42 they were looking for this young girl, 00:03:43.45\00:03:45.49 10 years old, concerned 00:03:45.52\00:03:47.36 because one hour passed, two hours, three hours, 00:03:47.39\00:03:50.23 four hours, 00:03:50.26\00:03:51.59 when they were beginning to ask themselves, 00:03:51.63\00:03:52.96 are we going to find her? 00:03:52.99\00:03:55.33 When they finally did, 00:03:55.36\00:03:57.03 she was just so relaxed in the water, 00:03:57.07\00:03:59.33 as if nothing was happening, they brought her in. 00:03:59.37\00:04:02.24 And they were just shocked that she was so relaxed. 00:04:02.27\00:04:05.21 And it's very interesting that the lesson says, 00:04:05.24\00:04:07.81 "How is it that you're so relaxed?" 00:04:07.84\00:04:09.91 And she said, 00:04:09.94\00:04:11.51 "Father said, I could float all day on my back 00:04:11.55\00:04:14.28 and that he would come for me so I just swam and floated 00:04:14.32\00:04:17.85 because I knew he would come." 00:04:17.89\00:04:20.02 Amen. 00:04:20.06\00:04:21.39 And so, this story brings about to us 00:04:21.42\00:04:24.23 how we should be. 00:04:24.26\00:04:25.59 That's right. 00:04:25.63\00:04:26.96 How we face life's challenges 00:04:27.00\00:04:28.33 to realize that Jesus is with us always 00:04:28.36\00:04:30.37 even to the end of the world 00:04:30.40\00:04:31.87 and also that He is coming soon for us. 00:04:31.90\00:04:36.84 Now let's go into Sunday's part, 00:04:36.87\00:04:39.37 as we look at some, 00:04:39.41\00:04:42.04 a verse here that brings out 00:04:42.08\00:04:43.98 a very interesting and powerful thought. 00:04:44.01\00:04:47.12 It says in Genesis 15:1, 00:04:47.15\00:04:49.78 "After these things, 00:04:49.82\00:04:51.29 the word of the Lord came unto Abraham 00:04:51.32\00:04:54.62 in a vision saying, 00:04:54.66\00:04:56.22 'Fear not Abraham, 00:04:56.26\00:04:57.76 I am thy shield 00:04:57.79\00:05:00.10 and thy exceeding great reward.'" 00:05:00.13\00:05:04.43 Now as we look at this verse, 00:05:04.47\00:05:06.40 you will notice something interesting. 00:05:06.43\00:05:08.90 It doesn't say there 00:05:08.94\00:05:10.31 that the Lord identified Himself. 00:05:10.34\00:05:12.67 And to me that's very interesting 00:05:12.71\00:05:14.04 because Abraham recognized the voice of God. 00:05:14.08\00:05:18.35 And you will see this 00:05:18.38\00:05:19.71 as you continue reading in verse 2, 00:05:19.75\00:05:21.08 because right away, 00:05:21.12\00:05:22.52 Abraham presents a concern to the Lord. 00:05:22.55\00:05:25.19 But Abraham said, 00:05:25.22\00:05:26.55 Lord God, what will You give me, 00:05:26.59\00:05:28.99 seeing I go childless, 00:05:29.02\00:05:30.83 and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?' 00:05:30.86\00:05:34.66 Then Abram said, 00:05:34.70\00:05:36.06 'Look, You have given me no offspring, 00:05:36.10\00:05:38.43 indeed one born in my house is my heir!' 00:05:38.47\00:05:42.30 He was concerned, but the Lord said to Him, 00:05:42.34\00:05:44.94 'Do not be afraid.'" 00:05:44.97\00:05:47.74 I would like to focus in on this, 00:05:47.78\00:05:49.94 because you notice that whenever an angel is sent 00:05:49.98\00:05:54.15 to someone, 00:05:54.18\00:05:55.52 one of the first things they say, 00:05:55.55\00:05:56.89 fear not. 00:05:56.92\00:05:58.25 And this is something that we need to understand. 00:05:58.29\00:06:01.09 And the Bible tells us to fear not nor be dismayed 00:06:01.12\00:06:03.73 because the Lord is with us. 00:06:03.76\00:06:05.09 And Jesus has promised to be with us, always, 00:06:05.13\00:06:07.86 even until the end of the world. 00:06:07.90\00:06:10.23 And notice that the Lord called Abraham by his name, 00:06:10.27\00:06:15.70 and that's marvelous to know that God knows us by name. 00:06:15.74\00:06:19.34 That's right. We're not a number. 00:06:19.37\00:06:21.48 We're not a number on a computer system. 00:06:21.51\00:06:23.85 He doesn't have to ask somebody, 00:06:23.88\00:06:25.78 what is that the name of that guy, 00:06:25.81\00:06:27.75 you know, he's a little lost some hair, 00:06:27.78\00:06:29.42 you know, He knows us by name, 00:06:29.45\00:06:31.62 He knows us very well. 00:06:31.65\00:06:34.56 And it's very interesting 00:06:34.59\00:06:35.92 that the people that lose sight, 00:06:35.96\00:06:38.89 and they, they're able to know people by the way 00:06:38.93\00:06:42.56 they hear the sounds of the footsteps. 00:06:42.60\00:06:44.37 God knows every single thing about us. 00:06:44.40\00:06:47.14 In fact, some people recognize their loved one 00:06:47.17\00:06:49.77 from far away by the way they walk. 00:06:49.80\00:06:52.91 God knows everything about us. 00:06:52.94\00:06:54.98 And He tells us to not be afraid, 00:06:55.01\00:06:56.88 I am with you. 00:06:56.91\00:06:58.38 And I want to focus in now, 00:06:58.41\00:07:00.12 in this lesson, 00:07:00.15\00:07:02.18 the idea that God is our shield, 00:07:02.22\00:07:05.02 our protector. 00:07:05.05\00:07:06.55 In Psalm 46:1, 2, and 3, 00:07:06.59\00:07:09.02 we have these powerful words. 00:07:09.06\00:07:11.89 "God is our refuge and strength, 00:07:11.93\00:07:15.20 a very present help in trouble, 00:07:15.23\00:07:18.03 therefore we will not fear." 00:07:18.07\00:07:21.27 That's right. 00:07:21.30\00:07:22.64 And it brings out something interesting, 00:07:22.67\00:07:24.01 "Even though the earth be removed, 00:07:24.04\00:07:26.94 and though the mountains 00:07:26.98\00:07:28.81 be carried into the midst of the sea, 00:07:28.84\00:07:32.51 though its waters roar and be troubled, 00:07:32.55\00:07:35.48 though the mountains shake with the swelling Selah." 00:07:35.52\00:07:39.92 So we see that we have to take an attitude and understanding 00:07:39.95\00:07:44.63 that God is with us. 00:07:44.66\00:07:45.99 God loves us. 00:07:46.03\00:07:47.70 He will protect us. 00:07:47.73\00:07:49.06 He will be our refuge and strength. 00:07:49.10\00:07:51.93 You know, unfortunately, 00:07:51.97\00:07:53.30 we worry far too much about things in this world. 00:07:53.34\00:07:56.97 Far too much about 00:07:57.01\00:07:59.01 how we're going to pay for those things. 00:07:59.04\00:08:01.08 Are we going to have enough food? 00:08:01.11\00:08:02.98 What's going to happen with this situation I'm facing, 00:08:03.01\00:08:05.85 and a lot of us worry ourselves 00:08:05.88\00:08:08.55 out of the hands of the Lord as we focus on the problem 00:08:08.58\00:08:11.39 instead of focusing our attention 00:08:11.42\00:08:13.05 on our mighty God 00:08:13.09\00:08:14.52 who is powerful and can get us out of any situation 00:08:14.56\00:08:17.96 we may encounter. 00:08:17.99\00:08:20.70 I want to share some more verses 00:08:20.73\00:08:23.40 that bring out this mighty thought 00:08:23.43\00:08:26.43 that God is our shield. 00:08:26.47\00:08:28.27 Let's look at Psalms 84:11. 00:08:28.30\00:08:31.41 Psalms 84:11, "For the Lord God is a sun and shield, 00:08:31.44\00:08:37.08 the Lord will give grace and glory." 00:08:37.11\00:08:40.75 Now notice this, this is marvelous, 00:08:40.78\00:08:42.35 "No good thing will He withhold 00:08:42.38\00:08:45.62 from those who walk uprightly." 00:08:45.65\00:08:48.99 And the Lord approached Abraham, 00:08:49.02\00:08:52.63 with the promise that He will be his shield, 00:08:52.66\00:08:55.33 because Abraham was willing to serve the Lord, 00:08:55.36\00:08:58.93 follow the Lord and be faithful. 00:08:58.97\00:09:02.00 And this is why the promises of God 00:09:02.04\00:09:04.81 you will notice that a condition 00:09:04.84\00:09:07.28 is mentioned as well. 00:09:07.31\00:09:08.64 When you look at the everlasting covenant, 00:09:08.68\00:09:10.01 when you look at the covenants of God. 00:09:10.05\00:09:11.61 God makes a promise, 00:09:11.65\00:09:13.31 but His promises are based 00:09:13.35\00:09:15.22 on our faithfulness and obedience. 00:09:15.25\00:09:17.65 He basically says to us, 00:09:17.69\00:09:19.35 "If you will follow Me with all of your heart, 00:09:19.39\00:09:21.36 if you are willing to be My child. 00:09:21.39\00:09:23.83 If you are willing to be happy and obey My commandments, 00:09:23.86\00:09:27.03 you will have great joy in obedience. 00:09:27.06\00:09:30.07 But not only that, 00:09:30.10\00:09:31.43 I am going to give you all of these benefits." 00:09:31.47\00:09:34.07 And this is marvelous to know that God is our Father. 00:09:34.10\00:09:38.71 He is concerned about us. 00:09:38.74\00:09:40.58 Psalm 144:2, 00:09:40.61\00:09:43.14 "My lovingkindness and my fortress, 00:09:43.18\00:09:47.78 my high tower and my deliverer, 00:09:47.82\00:09:52.22 my shield 00:09:52.25\00:09:53.69 and the One in whom I take refuge, 00:09:53.72\00:09:57.09 who subdues my people under me." 00:09:57.13\00:10:00.30 Do you consider God your fortress, 00:10:00.33\00:10:03.16 your strength, your shield? 00:10:03.20\00:10:06.03 Did you take refuge in the Lord when problems come? 00:10:06.07\00:10:10.17 You take refuge in the Lord every moment of the day. 00:10:10.21\00:10:12.84 Because when you wake up and you realize you have life, 00:10:12.87\00:10:17.71 the best thing you can do is put yourself 00:10:17.75\00:10:20.15 in the hands of the Lord. 00:10:20.18\00:10:22.45 Because the Bible says 00:10:22.48\00:10:24.39 that Satan is as a roaring lion 00:10:24.42\00:10:26.76 seeking whom we may devour, 00:10:26.79\00:10:28.96 he may devour. 00:10:28.99\00:10:30.33 And we are not safe without Jesus in our heart. 00:10:30.36\00:10:34.10 So I want to encourage you, 00:10:34.13\00:10:35.46 from the very moment you wake up, 00:10:35.50\00:10:37.47 put yourself in the hands of the Lord. 00:10:37.50\00:10:41.17 And you will face the day quite differently 00:10:41.20\00:10:43.34 knowing that Jesus is with you. 00:10:43.37\00:10:47.08 So we have a question here. 00:10:47.11\00:10:49.94 And it's very interesting, and we need to consider it, 00:10:49.98\00:10:52.11 does the fact that God is our shield mean 00:10:52.15\00:10:55.58 that we are not going to experience 00:10:55.62\00:10:57.69 any type of suffering in this world? 00:10:57.72\00:11:01.42 Well, Jesus reveals to us the reality, 00:11:01.46\00:11:04.73 He doesn't hide anything. 00:11:04.76\00:11:06.29 In John 16:33, He says to us these words, 00:11:06.33\00:11:10.40 "These things I have spoken to you 00:11:10.43\00:11:12.77 that in Me, you may have peace. 00:11:12.80\00:11:16.34 In the world, you will have tribulation, 00:11:16.37\00:11:19.87 but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." 00:11:19.91\00:11:26.05 So as we face difficulties in life, 00:11:26.08\00:11:28.48 and we will, 00:11:28.52\00:11:29.85 and perhaps you are facing a difficulty right now, 00:11:29.88\00:11:32.25 you are worried, you don't know what to do. 00:11:32.29\00:11:34.49 You're wondering, where's your help? 00:11:34.52\00:11:36.86 Where's your help coming from? 00:11:36.89\00:11:38.56 How am I going to get out of this mess? 00:11:38.59\00:11:41.83 In the Book of Psalms, it says, "My help comes from the Lord." 00:11:41.86\00:11:47.54 So I encourage you to consider the Lord your help, 00:11:47.57\00:11:50.21 your strength, your shield, your protector, 00:11:50.24\00:11:52.77 and the one that can deliver you 00:11:52.81\00:11:55.08 from whatever you're facing. 00:11:55.11\00:11:56.78 We are going to face difficult times, 00:11:56.81\00:11:58.71 we are even going to suffer pain, difficulties, 00:11:58.75\00:12:02.88 but God will be with us. 00:12:02.92\00:12:04.42 And notice He says, "I have overcome the world, 00:12:04.45\00:12:07.79 be of good cheer, 00:12:07.82\00:12:09.66 I will give you My peace in the midst of suffering, 00:12:09.69\00:12:13.76 in the midst of difficulties." 00:12:13.80\00:12:15.76 We should understand that God is very, very near. 00:12:15.80\00:12:20.70 Abraham faced difficulties, he faced trials, 00:12:20.74\00:12:26.24 he faced great difficulties, but he chose to be faithful. 00:12:26.27\00:12:32.45 He faced one of the greatest test 00:12:32.48\00:12:34.32 that people can be called upon. 00:12:34.35\00:12:36.08 God appeared to him one night and said, 00:12:36.12\00:12:38.32 "Abraham, take thy son, thine only son, 00:12:38.35\00:12:42.66 and offer him on a mountain that I will show you." 00:12:42.69\00:12:46.09 Abraham feared for the trial 00:12:46.13\00:12:52.43 that he faced, 00:12:52.47\00:12:53.80 but he chose to be faithful. 00:12:53.84\00:12:56.20 He did not waiver. 00:12:56.24\00:12:57.94 He picked up everything, 00:12:57.97\00:12:59.74 calls his servants picked up his son 00:12:59.77\00:13:01.11 and went to the mountain 00:13:01.14\00:13:02.91 that the Lord showed him 00:13:02.94\00:13:04.28 and went to the very act of offering his son. 00:13:04.31\00:13:08.08 His hand was up in the air 00:13:08.12\00:13:10.99 because he was willing to obey God no matter what. 00:13:11.02\00:13:15.69 And, of course, you know the story. 00:13:15.72\00:13:17.59 An angel called out, "Abraham, Abraham, 00:13:17.63\00:13:19.53 stop, don't do this." 00:13:19.56\00:13:22.43 You see, when we face trials, 00:13:22.46\00:13:23.80 we have to understand 00:13:23.83\00:13:25.17 that God has our best interest in mind. 00:13:25.20\00:13:27.70 This was a test to see if you would be faithful. 00:13:27.74\00:13:30.54 I don't know what test you are facing now. 00:13:30.57\00:13:33.41 But please understand that Jesus said, 00:13:33.44\00:13:35.78 "I will be with you always, even to the end of the world. 00:13:35.81\00:13:38.11 Whatever trial you are facing, 00:13:38.15\00:13:40.35 don't worry yourself out of the hands of the Lord. 00:13:40.38\00:13:43.25 Don't give yourself up to fear. 00:13:43.28\00:13:45.25 Do not sink into depression. 00:13:45.29\00:13:47.46 Take hold of the mighty hand of God 00:13:47.49\00:13:50.13 and say, "Yes, Lord, 00:13:50.16\00:13:52.36 I will follow You with all of my heart." 00:13:52.39\00:13:55.86 We continue now with Sister Shelley Quinn. 00:13:55.90\00:13:57.63 Amen. 00:13:57.67\00:13:59.00 Well, all I can say is thank you 00:13:59.03\00:14:01.70 and put on your seatbelts. 00:14:01.74\00:14:04.97 Okay, the everlasting covenant 00:14:05.01\00:14:08.34 is Revelation 13:8, 00:14:08.38\00:14:12.21 "The Lamb who was slain 00:14:12.25\00:14:14.02 from the foundation of the earth." 00:14:14.05\00:14:16.05 It is the covenant of redemption 00:14:16.08\00:14:17.82 that God introduced in 00:14:17.85\00:14:19.85 as soon as the humanity fell into sin. 00:14:19.89\00:14:23.29 In the garden, Genesis 3:15, 00:14:23.32\00:14:25.69 He speaks to the serpent. 00:14:25.73\00:14:27.26 He says, "I'm going to put enmity 00:14:27.30\00:14:29.16 between you and the woman, 00:14:29.20\00:14:32.20 between your seed and her seed." 00:14:32.23\00:14:34.74 He says, "Hey, 00:14:34.77\00:14:36.10 he is going to bruise your head, 00:14:36.14\00:14:38.37 you'll only bruise his heel." 00:14:38.41\00:14:40.71 He is telling us as, 00:14:40.74\00:14:42.44 as Isaiah 9:6, 00:14:42.48\00:14:44.78 "Unto us a child is going to be born, 00:14:44.81\00:14:47.88 and the government will be on His shoulders." 00:14:47.92\00:14:50.29 The seed of the woman 00:14:50.32\00:14:52.89 is going to overcome the devil. 00:14:52.92\00:14:57.66 Hallelujah. This is the covenant of grace. 00:14:57.69\00:15:00.33 God is doing for us 00:15:00.36\00:15:01.70 what we cannot do for ourselves. 00:15:01.73\00:15:03.67 I have a 30-page study 00:15:03.70\00:15:06.77 I did one weekend on the seed. 00:15:06.80\00:15:09.34 If you follow the story of the seed 00:15:09.37\00:15:13.41 through the Old and the New Testament, 00:15:13.44\00:15:16.54 it is the covenant of redemption. 00:15:16.58\00:15:19.65 In Genesis 22:15, 00:15:19.68\00:15:22.68 where God asked Abraham, 00:15:22.72\00:15:24.49 first he says to him, 00:15:24.52\00:15:26.09 "Hey, in your seed, 00:15:26.12\00:15:29.76 all the nations of the earth is going to be blessed 00:15:29.79\00:15:33.40 because you have obeyed My voice." 00:15:33.43\00:15:36.23 But then he asked him to, 00:15:36.26\00:15:39.33 as you said, 00:15:39.37\00:15:40.70 sacrifice this and we say, how could God do this? 00:15:40.74\00:15:44.77 How could Abraham even believe 00:15:44.81\00:15:47.18 that God is who is against child sacrifice, 00:15:47.21\00:15:51.91 is asking him to come sacrifice? 00:15:51.95\00:15:54.08 Let me tell you something, 00:15:54.12\00:15:55.45 I absolutely believe 00:15:55.48\00:15:57.12 that when God cut the covenant with Abraham, 00:15:57.15\00:16:01.42 put him into deep sleep. 00:16:01.46\00:16:03.22 He saw Christ day, 00:16:03.26\00:16:05.09 Jesus said, Abraham saw my day 00:16:05.13\00:16:07.00 and he was glad. 00:16:07.03\00:16:08.96 He saw Christ day, 00:16:09.00\00:16:10.33 I'm going to prove it to you from Scripture. 00:16:10.37\00:16:11.87 Hebrews 11:17 says, 00:16:11.90\00:16:14.07 "By faith Abraham, when he was tested, 00:16:14.10\00:16:16.40 he offered up Isaac 00:16:16.44\00:16:18.01 and he would receive the promises 00:16:18.04\00:16:20.34 offered his only begotten son." 00:16:20.38\00:16:22.94 Now, let me tell you something, 00:16:22.98\00:16:24.31 that word begotten is a covenant term. 00:16:24.35\00:16:28.02 It means that they were chosen for a covenant purpose. 00:16:28.05\00:16:32.69 So the term only begotten son, 00:16:32.72\00:16:35.62 that is a covenant term that means it's a unique, 00:16:35.66\00:16:40.10 one of a kind son of a promise. 00:16:40.13\00:16:42.50 Hey, Abraham had what he had Isaac, 00:16:42.53\00:16:45.33 then and then Jacob, 00:16:45.37\00:16:49.44 no, Abraham, who did he have? 00:16:49.47\00:16:51.11 Isaac. Ishmael. 00:16:51.14\00:16:52.47 Ishmael. 00:16:52.51\00:16:53.84 Ishmael, then Isaac, and then he had six more. 00:16:53.88\00:16:56.51 We won't get there. Now, here's the point. 00:16:56.54\00:16:59.68 In verse 18, he says, 00:16:59.71\00:17:01.65 he's offering up his only begotten son, 00:17:01.68\00:17:04.25 of whom it was said in, 00:17:04.29\00:17:05.62 Isaac your seed shall be called. 00:17:05.65\00:17:08.29 And then it says in verse 19 of Hebrews 11, 00:17:08.32\00:17:12.53 concluding that God was also able to raise him up 00:17:12.56\00:17:17.83 even from the dead. 00:17:17.87\00:17:19.20 He had seen the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, 00:17:19.23\00:17:22.80 he knew that God was going to have to slay 00:17:22.84\00:17:26.21 his son and bring him up. 00:17:26.24\00:17:28.54 He knew it was going to happen here too. 00:17:28.58\00:17:31.25 All right. 00:17:31.28\00:17:33.01 This seed is clearly identified as Jesus Christ 00:17:33.05\00:17:36.28 in Galatians 3:16. 00:17:36.32\00:17:38.85 He says, "In your seed," 00:17:38.89\00:17:40.56 when he's talking about Abraham and the seed, 00:17:40.59\00:17:42.76 it was sense "To your seed, who is Christ," 00:17:42.79\00:17:46.59 so only in Jesus Christ is it fulfilled, 00:17:46.63\00:17:49.86 this is the promise of the world Savior. 00:17:49.90\00:17:52.43 In Genesis, I'm just going to give you 00:17:52.47\00:17:54.07 some quick references here 00:17:54.10\00:17:56.67 that just write down the scripture references. 00:17:56.71\00:18:01.28 Genesis 26:4-5, 00:18:01.31\00:18:03.98 is when God renews the covenant with Isaac 00:18:04.01\00:18:07.42 and He says to Isaac, 00:18:07.45\00:18:08.95 "In your seed, 00:18:08.98\00:18:10.32 all the nations of the earth are going to be blessed." 00:18:10.35\00:18:12.69 Why? 00:18:12.72\00:18:14.06 "Because Abraham, your father obeyed my voice, 00:18:14.09\00:18:16.86 kept my charge, my commandments, 00:18:16.89\00:18:18.63 my statutes, and my laws." 00:18:18.66\00:18:20.56 Then in Genesis 28:12-14, 00:18:20.60\00:18:24.13 God renews this covenant with Jacob. 00:18:24.17\00:18:27.50 Jacob has this dream of the ladder 00:18:27.54\00:18:29.67 and the angels going up and down the ladder. 00:18:29.70\00:18:32.44 And then he says to Jacob in 20, Genesis 28:14, 00:18:32.47\00:18:37.21 "Your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth, 00:18:37.25\00:18:40.58 you shall spread abroad to the west, 00:18:40.62\00:18:43.62 the east, the north, and the south, 00:18:43.65\00:18:45.45 and in you and in your seed, 00:18:45.49\00:18:49.29 all the families of the earth shall be blessed." 00:18:49.32\00:18:52.76 In 1 Chronicles 17:11, 00:18:52.79\00:18:57.07 God is giving, 00:18:57.10\00:18:59.03 renewing this covenant 00:18:59.07\00:19:00.40 or adding to this covenant with David. 00:19:00.44\00:19:03.87 And He says to David in 1 Chronicles 17:11, 00:19:03.91\00:19:07.71 "It shall be when your days are fulfilled, 00:19:07.74\00:19:10.38 when you go to be with your fathers, 00:19:10.41\00:19:12.71 that I will set up your seed 00:19:12.75\00:19:15.52 after you who will be one of your sons 00:19:15.55\00:19:18.15 and I will establish His kingdom." 00:19:18.19\00:19:20.32 And Paul in Acts 13 says 00:19:20.36\00:19:23.56 that this man's seed was Jesus Christ. 00:19:23.59\00:19:27.63 So it is the promise seed from Genesis 3:15. 00:19:27.66\00:19:31.77 You can trace it all the way 00:19:31.80\00:19:34.54 through the Old Testament and into the New. 00:19:34.57\00:19:37.71 But here's what I want to get to. 00:19:37.74\00:19:40.68 Isaiah 9:7 says 00:19:40.71\00:19:43.18 that of his government and peace, 00:19:43.21\00:19:46.18 speaking of the Messiah, 00:19:46.21\00:19:47.55 there will be no end, right? 00:19:47.58\00:19:49.85 That's right. 00:19:49.88\00:19:52.29 The part that I wanted to get to, 00:19:52.32\00:19:54.52 and I'm going to say it first 00:19:54.56\00:19:55.89 because I can't get through all these notes. 00:19:55.92\00:19:58.99 Jesus said in John 12:24, 00:19:59.03\00:20:03.26 "I tell you the truth unless a kernel of wheat 00:20:03.30\00:20:06.53 falls to the ground and dies, 00:20:06.57\00:20:09.07 it remains only a single seed. 00:20:09.10\00:20:12.87 But if it dies, it produces many seeds." 00:20:12.91\00:20:18.05 The seed of the covenant is Messiah, 00:20:18.08\00:20:22.35 He was born to die. 00:20:22.38\00:20:26.15 He was born to die. 00:20:26.19\00:20:27.52 In Isaiah 53, I just love this. 00:20:27.56\00:20:30.53 Isaiah 53:10- 11. 00:20:30.56\00:20:33.53 It says, "It pleased the Lord to bruise him." 00:20:33.56\00:20:36.77 What, to bruise? 00:20:36.80\00:20:40.04 God became a man in the person of Jesus Christ. 00:20:40.07\00:20:43.77 And the whole purpose 00:20:43.81\00:20:45.14 was so that He could be bruised. 00:20:45.17\00:20:46.94 "He put into grief, 00:20:46.98\00:20:48.81 when you make His soul an offering for sin." 00:20:48.84\00:20:52.55 Get this, "He shall see His seed, 00:20:52.58\00:20:57.62 He shall prolong his days, 00:20:57.65\00:20:59.25 and pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in the land. 00:20:59.29\00:21:03.53 He shall see the labor of his soul and be satisfied. 00:21:03.56\00:21:06.16 By His knowledge, 00:21:06.19\00:21:07.53 My righteous Servant shall justify many, 00:21:07.56\00:21:10.57 for He shall bear their iniquities." 00:21:10.60\00:21:14.50 So this seed of the Lord, 00:21:14.54\00:21:17.64 we're told in Romans 4:13, 00:21:17.67\00:21:20.58 that Abraham's seed 00:21:20.61\00:21:23.85 is only through the righteousness 00:21:23.88\00:21:26.61 of faith. 00:21:26.65\00:21:27.98 We're told in Romans 9:6-8, 00:21:28.02\00:21:31.65 that is only the children of faith, 00:21:31.69\00:21:34.29 the children of the promise, 00:21:34.32\00:21:36.59 who are counted as the seed. 00:21:36.62\00:21:38.93 Galatians 3:29 says, "We are Abraham's seed, 00:21:38.96\00:21:44.10 and heirs according to the promise." 00:21:44.13\00:21:47.24 And 1 John, I want to read this 00:21:47.27\00:21:50.04 1 John 3:7-10. 00:21:50.07\00:21:55.38 John is writing in the New Testament, he says, 00:21:55.41\00:21:57.45 "Little children, let no one deceive you. 00:21:57.48\00:22:00.15 He who practices righteousness 00:22:00.18\00:22:03.39 is righteous, just as He is righteous. 00:22:03.42\00:22:09.39 He who sins is of the devil, 00:22:09.42\00:22:10.99 for the devil has sinned from the beginning. 00:22:11.03\00:22:13.63 For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, 00:22:13.66\00:22:17.23 that He might destroy the works of the devil. 00:22:17.27\00:22:20.20 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, 00:22:20.24\00:22:23.64 does not make sin, 00:22:23.67\00:22:25.01 a continual practice of walking in it, 00:22:25.04\00:22:29.14 because His, Christ's seed remains in you. 00:22:29.18\00:22:34.88 And you cannot sin because you're born of God. 00:22:34.92\00:22:39.05 In this the children of God, 00:22:39.09\00:22:40.56 the children of the devil are manifest: 00:22:40.59\00:22:42.86 Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, 00:22:42.89\00:22:46.46 nor is he who does not love his father." 00:22:46.49\00:22:50.57 The seed, the child of promise 00:22:50.60\00:22:53.57 introduced in Genesis 3:15, 00:22:53.60\00:22:56.37 the Lamb who was slain 00:22:56.40\00:22:57.74 from the foundation of the earth. 00:22:57.77\00:22:59.74 He is God's greatest gift of grace to mankind. 00:22:59.77\00:23:03.71 And Hebrews 7:22 says, 00:23:03.75\00:23:05.88 "He is the surety, 00:23:05.91\00:23:09.18 the guarantor of the covenant." 00:23:09.22\00:23:12.89 Jesus is from God to us. 00:23:12.92\00:23:16.59 He is the guarantor 00:23:16.62\00:23:17.99 that all of God's promises are yes and amen in Him. 00:23:18.03\00:23:22.86 2 Corinthians 1:20. 00:23:22.90\00:23:24.87 But He's also the surety from us to God, 00:23:24.90\00:23:29.20 because Philippians 2:13 says, 00:23:29.24\00:23:31.57 "He works in us 00:23:31.61\00:23:32.94 to will and to do His good pleasure. 00:23:32.97\00:23:35.04 So He calls us into covenant. 00:23:35.08\00:23:38.91 And then He says, 00:23:38.95\00:23:40.62 "All of God's promises are yours." 00:23:40.65\00:23:42.92 But He says, "I am going to by grace, 00:23:42.95\00:23:46.72 empower you to walk in covenant loyalty, 00:23:46.76\00:23:51.89 to walk in the love of obedience." 00:23:51.93\00:23:55.13 Hallelujah, that we're born again 00:23:55.16\00:23:57.67 of an imperishable seed. 00:23:57.70\00:23:59.33 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:24:48.15\00:24:49.48 Shelley, I have to say you set me up perfectly. 00:24:49.52\00:24:51.55 She had Messiah promise part one. 00:24:51.59\00:24:54.32 And I love how you unpacked 00:24:54.36\00:24:55.76 that the significance of the seed 00:24:55.79\00:24:58.43 and I just want to say before I dive into mine, 00:24:58.46\00:25:01.33 probably the most significant scripture 00:25:01.36\00:25:03.26 in all the Bible, 00:25:03.30\00:25:04.63 okay, there's many of them, I recognize. 00:25:04.67\00:25:06.80 But if you don't understand the significance and importance 00:25:06.84\00:25:09.74 and the prophetic implication of Genesis 3:15, 00:25:09.77\00:25:13.01 and how important it is 00:25:13.04\00:25:15.14 throughout the entirety 00:25:15.18\00:25:16.51 of the overall scope of Scripture, 00:25:16.54\00:25:18.71 then you've missed the point entirely. 00:25:18.75\00:25:20.72 The entire Old Testament story is all about the coming seed. 00:25:20.75\00:25:24.65 When you get to the New Testament 00:25:24.69\00:25:26.32 don't think that the story has stopped 00:25:26.35\00:25:27.89 just because the seed has showed up 00:25:27.92\00:25:29.72 because it's still all about the seed. 00:25:29.76\00:25:31.26 We know that seed to be Jesus Christ, 00:25:31.29\00:25:33.73 and the Messiah promise part one 00:25:33.76\00:25:36.26 covered the coming 00:25:36.30\00:25:37.90 and the establishment of the seed 00:25:37.93\00:25:39.30 through Christ Jesus. 00:25:39.33\00:25:41.04 Now we know that Jesus did indeed come. 00:25:41.07\00:25:43.34 And He did, 00:25:43.37\00:25:44.71 He was that great sacrifice for us. 00:25:44.74\00:25:46.34 And He did resurrect again. 00:25:46.37\00:25:48.31 Praise the Lord. 00:25:48.34\00:25:49.78 But this Tuesday's lesson, the Messiah promise, part two, 00:25:49.81\00:25:54.15 focuses in on the importance 00:25:54.18\00:25:55.65 of not only within that covenant 00:25:55.68\00:25:57.79 was it to proclaim 00:25:57.82\00:26:00.22 and to pronounce the first coming of Christ, 00:26:00.26\00:26:02.66 but also the second coming 00:26:02.69\00:26:04.59 in which within that beautiful covenant promise, 00:26:04.63\00:26:07.50 we see that there's a promise 00:26:07.53\00:26:09.96 that while Jesus did die, 00:26:10.00\00:26:11.73 and He did resurrect, 00:26:11.77\00:26:13.10 and you know, He left, 00:26:13.13\00:26:14.47 it's not like He just got out of dodge, 00:26:14.50\00:26:15.84 and was like see ya, 00:26:15.87\00:26:17.21 you know, I'm never coming back again. 00:26:17.24\00:26:18.57 It was right the opposite. 00:26:18.61\00:26:19.94 I will return for you 00:26:19.97\00:26:21.31 and I will take you to a better place. 00:26:21.34\00:26:23.51 That's what Tuesday's lesson is all about. 00:26:23.55\00:26:26.65 And the lesson brings out, 00:26:26.68\00:26:28.08 I'm just going to emphasize this here, 00:26:28.12\00:26:29.58 that we really will not enjoy true happiness in this lifetime 00:26:29.62\00:26:33.82 until we are taken, 00:26:33.86\00:26:35.19 until Jesus comes back and takes us away 00:26:35.22\00:26:37.49 to a better land, to a better far country. 00:26:37.53\00:26:40.66 And so I want to... I just want to emphasize this 00:26:40.70\00:26:42.80 and jump right into 1 Thessalonians 4, 00:26:42.83\00:26:45.97 the lesson brings these texts out. 00:26:46.00\00:26:47.34 And I think for the purpose of what we're studying, 00:26:47.37\00:26:49.64 it's important that we revisit these texts to remind us 00:26:49.67\00:26:53.04 of the wonderful covenant promise 00:26:53.07\00:26:55.14 that we have in Christ Jesus' Second Coming. 00:26:55.18\00:26:58.41 His return to take us 00:26:58.45\00:27:00.25 out of this horrible world we're in 00:27:00.28\00:27:02.25 and bring us to an even better one. 00:27:02.28\00:27:03.99 In fact, the Bible says, I believe it's over in, 00:27:04.02\00:27:06.86 I forget, I think maybe it's Hebrews 11. 00:27:06.89\00:27:09.56 Don't quote me on that. 00:27:09.59\00:27:10.93 But I know there's a scripture in the New Testament says 00:27:10.96\00:27:13.03 that Abraham looked forward, 00:27:13.06\00:27:15.03 he saw, he looked forward to the day, 00:27:15.06\00:27:16.93 and he looked forward to a better city, 00:27:16.97\00:27:18.60 a new land in which Christ would come 00:27:18.63\00:27:20.60 and return and take His people there, 00:27:20.64\00:27:22.47 that is of all a part 00:27:22.50\00:27:24.01 of this beautiful covenant promise 00:27:24.04\00:27:25.87 that we have in Jesus Christ. 00:27:25.91\00:27:27.64 So 1 Thessalonians Chapter 4, that we should not, 00:27:27.68\00:27:31.15 we should not be strangers to this text, 00:27:31.18\00:27:33.11 because it says beginning in verse 16, 00:27:33.15\00:27:35.32 all the way through 18. 00:27:35.35\00:27:36.69 It says, "For the Lord Himself 00:27:36.72\00:27:38.42 will descend from heaven with a shout, 00:27:38.45\00:27:40.46 with the voice of the archangel, 00:27:40.49\00:27:42.02 and with the trumpet of God, 00:27:42.06\00:27:44.39 and the dead in Christ will rise first, 00:27:44.43\00:27:48.86 then we which are alive and remain 00:27:48.90\00:27:50.37 shall be caught up together with them 00:27:50.40\00:27:52.73 in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. 00:27:52.77\00:27:55.30 And thus, we shall always be with the Lord." 00:27:55.34\00:27:58.77 And I love verse 18, 00:27:58.81\00:28:00.14 because a lot of people stop there. 00:28:00.18\00:28:01.51 I like to read verse 18 because it says, 00:28:01.54\00:28:02.88 "Therefore comfort one another with these words." 00:28:02.91\00:28:05.91 Isn't it, isn't the covenant also about 00:28:05.95\00:28:09.15 bringing comfort to us in these last days? 00:28:09.18\00:28:11.29 We need comfort, right? 00:28:11.32\00:28:12.65 We need that encouragement to know 00:28:12.69\00:28:14.82 that while we're living in a world 00:28:14.86\00:28:16.99 just draped in sin, draped in despair, and sorrow, 00:28:17.03\00:28:20.13 and pain, and death. 00:28:20.16\00:28:21.50 And in fact, I'm going to be reading 00:28:21.53\00:28:22.86 a rather extensive explanation of that in just a moment, 00:28:22.90\00:28:25.40 a description of that. 00:28:25.43\00:28:26.77 It's wonderful to know 00:28:26.80\00:28:28.34 that we can comfort one another 00:28:28.37\00:28:30.27 with the beautiful covenant promise 00:28:30.31\00:28:32.14 that not only did Jesus come the first time, 00:28:32.17\00:28:34.34 and that He went to be our high priest 00:28:34.38\00:28:36.75 in the heavenly sanctuary, 00:28:36.78\00:28:38.11 but He's going to return again, 00:28:38.15\00:28:39.78 and He's going to make all things better. 00:28:39.81\00:28:41.28 He's going to make all things new. 00:28:41.32\00:28:43.18 Also, Revelation Chapter 13, 00:28:43.22\00:28:45.05 excuse me, Revelation Chapter 3. 00:28:45.09\00:28:47.39 Revelation 3:12. 00:28:47.42\00:28:49.86 This is one of my favorite verses here. 00:28:49.89\00:28:51.63 It gives a beautiful promise, 00:28:51.66\00:28:53.06 as Jesus is speaking to all of the churches 00:28:53.09\00:28:54.76 of Asia Minor, 00:28:54.80\00:28:56.13 He pronounces a promise there. 00:28:56.16\00:28:58.07 And, of course, Revelation 3:12, says, 00:28:58.10\00:28:59.83 "He who overcomes, 00:28:59.87\00:29:01.60 I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, 00:29:01.64\00:29:05.51 and he shall go out no more. 00:29:05.54\00:29:07.38 I will write on him the name of My God 00:29:07.41\00:29:09.58 and the name of the city of My God, 00:29:09.61\00:29:12.61 the New Jerusalem, 00:29:12.65\00:29:13.98 which comes down out of heaven from My God. 00:29:14.02\00:29:17.29 And I will write on him My new name." 00:29:17.32\00:29:20.66 So last week, we talked about the significance 00:29:20.69\00:29:22.79 and the power of God's name, 00:29:22.82\00:29:24.73 that it's that He has multiple names, 00:29:24.76\00:29:26.43 and the names tell the story of who He is, 00:29:26.46\00:29:28.90 the character and the traits and the wonderful ideals 00:29:28.93\00:29:31.97 that God portrays through His very person. 00:29:32.00\00:29:34.60 And right here, He says, 00:29:34.64\00:29:35.97 "I will write on them My new name." 00:29:36.00\00:29:38.11 It's a powerful scripture indeed. 00:29:38.14\00:29:40.04 The lesson brings out this quote from Augustine, 00:29:40.08\00:29:42.94 who was a religious philosopher 00:29:42.98\00:29:44.65 of the third and fourth century. 00:29:44.68\00:29:46.18 And I think it's quite, 00:29:46.21\00:29:47.98 I think, if we read through this, 00:29:48.02\00:29:49.55 you're going to see I think it very much describes 00:29:49.58\00:29:52.05 not just the world that he lived in 00:29:52.09\00:29:54.16 more than 1,600 years ago, 00:29:54.19\00:29:56.76 but also the world that we're living in today. 00:29:56.79\00:29:58.39 So notice what he says here. 00:29:58.43\00:30:00.26 He says, "This life of ours, 00:30:00.30\00:30:02.76 if a life so full of such great ills 00:30:02.80\00:30:04.97 can properly be called a life, 00:30:05.00\00:30:07.40 bears witness to the fact that, 00:30:07.44\00:30:09.00 from its very start, 00:30:09.04\00:30:10.47 the race of mortal men 00:30:10.51\00:30:12.04 has been a race condemned. 00:30:12.07\00:30:14.91 Think, first, 00:30:14.94\00:30:17.21 of all the dreadful abyss of ignorance 00:30:17.25\00:30:19.55 from which all error flows 00:30:19.58\00:30:21.12 and so engulfs the sons of Adam 00:30:21.15\00:30:23.72 in a darksome pool 00:30:23.75\00:30:25.19 that no one can escape without the toll of toils 00:30:25.22\00:30:28.92 and tears and fears. 00:30:28.96\00:30:31.83 Then, take our very love for all those things 00:30:31.86\00:30:34.63 that prove so vain and poisonous 00:30:34.66\00:30:36.63 and breed so many heartaches, troubles, 00:30:36.67\00:30:39.33 griefs, and fears, 00:30:39.37\00:30:40.70 such insane joys in discord, strife, and war, 00:30:40.74\00:30:44.11 such fraud and theft and robbery, 00:30:44.14\00:30:46.81 such perfidy and pride, envy and ambition, 00:30:46.84\00:30:51.05 homicide and murder, cruelty and savagery, 00:30:51.08\00:30:54.68 lawlessness and lust, 00:30:54.72\00:30:57.82 and the shameless passions of the impure, 00:30:57.85\00:31:01.12 fornication and adultery, 00:31:01.16\00:31:03.19 incest and unnatural sins, rape 00:31:03.22\00:31:06.49 and countless other uncleannesses 00:31:06.53\00:31:08.33 too nasty to be mentioned, he says, 00:31:08.36\00:31:11.07 and the sins against religion, sacrilege and heresy, 00:31:11.10\00:31:15.00 blasphemy and perjury, 00:31:15.04\00:31:16.81 the iniquities against our neighbors," 00:31:16.84\00:31:19.31 and the list goes on, "calumnies and cheating, 00:31:19.34\00:31:22.34 lies and false witness, 00:31:22.38\00:31:24.51 violence to persons and property, 00:31:24.55\00:31:26.31 the injustices of the courts 00:31:26.35\00:31:27.85 and the innumerable other miseries and maladies 00:31:27.88\00:31:30.82 that fill the world, yet escape attention." 00:31:30.85\00:31:33.92 I read through all of that, 00:31:33.96\00:31:35.29 and we hear it and it's just like, 00:31:35.32\00:31:36.66 yep, check. 00:31:36.69\00:31:38.03 Yep, check. 00:31:38.06\00:31:39.39 Yep, yep, 00:31:39.43\00:31:40.76 that describes our world to the tee. 00:31:40.80\00:31:42.13 And yet he wrote this more than 1600 years ago. 00:31:42.16\00:31:44.00 And so the question I have in here is what is changed 00:31:44.03\00:31:45.97 in more than 1500 years 00:31:46.00\00:31:47.70 or 1600 years since this was written? 00:31:47.74\00:31:50.51 Nothing other than the fact 00:31:50.54\00:31:51.87 that these atrocious realities are being carried out 00:31:51.91\00:31:54.44 on a larger global scale. 00:31:54.48\00:31:56.04 And it reminds us of, of how we need a savior, 00:31:56.08\00:31:59.31 we need to be redeemed and taken away from this. 00:31:59.35\00:32:01.75 And that's the beautiful thing 00:32:01.78\00:32:03.12 about when you study the covenant. 00:32:03.15\00:32:04.85 When you study this beautiful covenant relationship 00:32:04.89\00:32:07.29 that God's people have with the Lord 00:32:07.32\00:32:09.06 and the promises that He has given, 00:32:09.09\00:32:10.53 He has promised a much better place. 00:32:10.56\00:32:13.26 Either some people that based on their unbelief, of course, 00:32:13.29\00:32:16.56 have no promise in looking forward 00:32:16.60\00:32:18.17 to a better day 00:32:18.20\00:32:19.53 when all these sinful horrors 00:32:19.57\00:32:21.24 will be conquered and destroyed. 00:32:21.27\00:32:23.07 However, of course, as Christians, 00:32:23.10\00:32:25.47 as Christian believers, 00:32:25.51\00:32:26.84 we can praise God knowing that He has made a covenant 00:32:26.88\00:32:29.31 with Abraham promising that in his seed, 00:32:29.34\00:32:32.31 can't say that enough, in his seed, 00:32:32.35\00:32:35.02 all the families of the earth will be blessed. 00:32:35.05\00:32:38.15 And we have the beautiful promise 00:32:38.19\00:32:40.32 of the sacrifice, resurrection 00:32:40.36\00:32:42.59 and high priestly ministry of Jesus Christ 00:32:42.62\00:32:45.63 as well as the time in which Jesus will return 00:32:45.66\00:32:48.33 and make all things new. 00:32:48.36\00:32:50.00 In fact, let's read it right now. 00:32:50.03\00:32:51.37 Revelation 21:3-5. 00:32:51.40\00:32:53.57 I love this text. 00:32:53.60\00:32:55.24 Revelation 21:3-5, the Bible says, 00:32:55.27\00:32:58.14 "And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, 00:32:58.17\00:32:59.84 'Behold, the tabernacle of God 00:32:59.87\00:33:01.91 is with men, and he will dwell with them, 00:33:01.94\00:33:04.21 and they shall be His people. 00:33:04.25\00:33:06.18 God Himself will be with them and be their God. 00:33:06.21\00:33:09.48 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, 00:33:09.52\00:33:12.99 there shall be no more death," 00:33:13.02\00:33:14.69 praise the Lord, 00:33:14.72\00:33:16.06 "no more sorrow," praise the Lord, 00:33:16.09\00:33:17.86 "no more crime," praise God, 00:33:17.89\00:33:19.79 "there shall be no more pain," hallelujah. 00:33:19.83\00:33:22.36 "The former things are passed away." 00:33:22.40\00:33:24.07 Can I get an amen? 00:33:24.10\00:33:25.43 This is a sermon in and of itself, 00:33:25.47\00:33:26.80 "Then he who sat on the throne said, 00:33:26.84\00:33:28.30 'Behold, I make all things new.'" 00:33:28.34\00:33:30.94 Christ says only I can do that. 00:33:30.97\00:33:32.64 Abraham's covenant, this the governing seed, 00:33:32.67\00:33:35.04 only He can do that. 00:33:35.08\00:33:36.41 He brings all, He makes all things new. 00:33:36.44\00:33:38.48 And He said to me, right, 00:33:38.51\00:33:39.85 for these words are true and faithful. 00:33:39.88\00:33:41.98 The question is, do we believe them? 00:33:42.02\00:33:44.09 Do we believe that these words are true 00:33:44.12\00:33:46.19 that when the covenant has spoken, 00:33:46.22\00:33:47.99 and we understand it, and we believe in it, 00:33:48.02\00:33:50.09 and we believe in the promises of God's Word, 00:33:50.13\00:33:52.23 then when He says He's going to return 00:33:52.26\00:33:53.60 and make all things new, do we believe it? 00:33:53.63\00:33:55.56 Or are we caught up in the sinful horribleness 00:33:55.60\00:33:58.30 of this world? 00:33:58.33\00:33:59.87 I love Revelation 22:1-5 because it also reminds us. 00:33:59.90\00:34:03.47 He says, "He showed me a pure water of life, 00:34:03.51\00:34:05.31 crystal as clear, clear as crystal, excuse me, 00:34:05.34\00:34:07.98 proceeding from the throne of God 00:34:08.01\00:34:09.34 in the midst of the street and on either side of the river 00:34:09.38\00:34:11.75 was a tree of life which bore 12 fruits, 00:34:11.78\00:34:14.98 the tree yielding a fruit for each month 00:34:15.02\00:34:17.09 of the each of the month, 00:34:17.12\00:34:18.59 the leaves of the tree 00:34:18.62\00:34:20.29 were for the healing of the nations, 00:34:20.32\00:34:21.99 there shall be no more curse. 00:34:22.02\00:34:23.36 But the throne of God 00:34:23.39\00:34:24.96 and of the Lamb shall be in it in and His servants 00:34:24.99\00:34:27.13 shall serve Him. 00:34:27.16\00:34:28.80 They shall see His face." 00:34:28.83\00:34:30.20 My friends, there's coming a time 00:34:30.23\00:34:31.87 when we will see the face of God, 00:34:31.90\00:34:34.17 we will look upon the face of God. 00:34:34.20\00:34:36.37 I'm excited. 00:34:36.40\00:34:37.74 I'm excited about this because it reminds us, 00:34:37.77\00:34:40.48 this message reminds us 00:34:40.51\00:34:41.84 that this world is not our home. 00:34:41.88\00:34:44.41 And when we look into the promised seed 00:34:44.45\00:34:46.78 of Abraham, 00:34:46.82\00:34:48.15 Jesus Christ, our Savior, 00:34:48.18\00:34:49.52 He is the fulfillment of the covenant, 00:34:49.55\00:34:51.35 and we should be in covenant relationship 00:34:51.39\00:34:53.12 with Him. 00:34:53.15\00:34:54.49 Not tomorrow, not next year but right now. 00:34:54.52\00:34:57.43 Amen. 00:34:57.46\00:34:58.79 Oh, thank you so much, Ryan. 00:34:58.83\00:35:00.76 Amen. 00:35:00.80\00:35:02.13 I got so excited. 00:35:02.16\00:35:03.50 I forgot to take my mask off, okay. 00:35:03.53\00:35:04.87 Praise the Lord. 00:35:04.90\00:35:06.23 I'm so grateful for the promised seed 00:35:06.27\00:35:07.94 in Genesis 3:15. 00:35:07.97\00:35:10.31 I'm so grateful that Jesus came 00:35:10.34\00:35:13.24 and lived a perfect life and died in our stead 00:35:13.27\00:35:16.64 that we have hope of eternal life. 00:35:16.68\00:35:18.55 On Wednesday, that's my day, 00:35:18.58\00:35:20.82 we look at "A Great and Mighty Nation." 00:35:20.85\00:35:24.22 We know God promised Abraham, 00:35:24.25\00:35:25.69 we referenced this several times 00:35:25.72\00:35:27.89 through the last several weeks. 00:35:27.92\00:35:29.46 In Genesis 12:2, he said, 00:35:29.49\00:35:31.69 "I will make of you of great nation." 00:35:31.73\00:35:35.33 He reiterated again, this is in Genesis 46:3, 00:35:35.36\00:35:40.14 He's speaking to Israel, to Jacob, 00:35:40.17\00:35:42.37 but his name was changed to Israel. 00:35:42.40\00:35:44.31 He said, "I am God, the God of your father. 00:35:44.34\00:35:47.11 Do not fear to go down to Egypt. 00:35:47.14\00:35:49.64 I will make of you a great nation there." 00:35:49.68\00:35:53.72 We know that the children of Israel 00:35:53.75\00:35:55.08 became a great and mighty nation. 00:35:55.12\00:35:57.92 But why? 00:35:57.95\00:35:59.29 Why did God want to make of the descendants of Abraham, 00:35:59.32\00:36:02.99 a great and mighty nation? 00:36:03.02\00:36:04.56 Why did it matter? 00:36:04.59\00:36:05.93 What was their purpose? 00:36:05.96\00:36:07.70 We're going to look today at the purpose 00:36:07.73\00:36:09.43 of this great nation, 00:36:09.46\00:36:10.90 and then some of the characteristics 00:36:10.93\00:36:13.50 of this nation. 00:36:13.54\00:36:14.87 So let's look first at the purpose. 00:36:14.90\00:36:16.60 I would say the purpose is to share 00:36:16.64\00:36:18.54 the one true God with the world, 00:36:18.57\00:36:21.04 to share what God had done in their own lives, 00:36:21.08\00:36:26.48 and to share the universality of the gospel. 00:36:26.51\00:36:29.78 So let's look at that. 00:36:29.82\00:36:31.15 Let's unpack that, 00:36:31.19\00:36:32.52 the purpose of this great nation 00:36:32.55\00:36:34.26 to share the one true God with the world. 00:36:34.29\00:36:37.16 Look at Isaiah Chapter 60. 00:36:37.19\00:36:39.03 I love this passage of scripture. 00:36:39.06\00:36:41.76 Isaiah 60:1-3, 00:36:41.80\00:36:44.77 "Arise, shine, 00:36:44.80\00:36:47.04 for your light has come! 00:36:47.07\00:36:49.67 And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you." 00:36:49.70\00:36:52.54 Why is the glory risen? Why is the light shining? 00:36:52.57\00:36:55.28 Why is God shining His light 00:36:55.31\00:36:57.55 and His glory into the nation of Israel? 00:36:57.58\00:37:00.75 Verse 2, "For behold, 00:37:00.78\00:37:02.72 darkness will cover the earth, 00:37:02.75\00:37:04.42 and deep darkness the people. 00:37:04.45\00:37:06.32 It is a dark world. 00:37:06.35\00:37:08.76 But behold, the Lord will arise over you 00:37:08.79\00:37:11.49 and His glory will be seen upon you. 00:37:11.53\00:37:14.30 The Gentiles shall come to your light, 00:37:14.33\00:37:17.37 and kings to the brightness of your rising." 00:37:17.40\00:37:20.00 You see, they were called not to hoard truth. 00:37:20.04\00:37:23.64 They were called not to keep their light 00:37:23.67\00:37:26.51 as it were under a bushel. 00:37:26.54\00:37:28.61 They were called to spread the light, 00:37:28.64\00:37:31.88 the glorious light, 00:37:31.91\00:37:33.25 the gospel truth with the surrounding nations. 00:37:33.28\00:37:36.55 They were polygamous. 00:37:36.58\00:37:37.92 They worshiped many different gods. 00:37:37.95\00:37:40.69 They were idolaters, 00:37:40.72\00:37:42.42 the heathen nations 00:37:42.46\00:37:43.79 surrounding the children of Israel. 00:37:43.83\00:37:45.96 Their job was to show forth 00:37:45.99\00:37:48.43 the praises of Him 00:37:48.46\00:37:49.80 who called them out of darkness 00:37:49.83\00:37:51.43 into this marvelous light. 00:37:51.47\00:37:53.37 Their job was to showcase 00:37:53.40\00:37:55.84 Jehovah God, Yahweh, El Shaddai, 00:37:55.87\00:37:59.41 all of those names of God 00:37:59.44\00:38:00.78 that He is the One true God. 00:38:00.81\00:38:02.81 Amen. 00:38:02.84\00:38:04.18 Their job was to show 00:38:04.21\00:38:05.55 not only that God was the One true God, 00:38:05.58\00:38:07.45 but that God had done something in their life. 00:38:07.48\00:38:10.22 You know, you can't share something, 00:38:10.25\00:38:11.59 you can't preach something, 00:38:11.62\00:38:13.36 unless you have experienced it for yourself. 00:38:13.39\00:38:17.43 They needed to experience this God for themselves, 00:38:17.46\00:38:21.50 then they can share that with someone else. 00:38:21.53\00:38:23.80 1 Peter 2:9-10. 00:38:23.83\00:38:27.50 "But you are a chosen generation, 00:38:27.54\00:38:30.27 a royal priesthood, a holy nation, 00:38:30.31\00:38:33.68 His own special people, 00:38:33.71\00:38:36.38 that you may proclaim the praises of Him 00:38:36.41\00:38:38.48 who called you out of darkness 00:38:38.51\00:38:40.75 into this marvelous light." 00:38:40.78\00:38:43.18 It doesn't stop there. 00:38:43.22\00:38:44.55 I love verse 10, "Who once were not a people, 00:38:44.59\00:38:47.56 but are now the people of God, 00:38:47.59\00:38:50.63 who once did not obtain mercy, 00:38:50.66\00:38:52.83 but now have obtained mercy." 00:38:52.86\00:38:56.00 And we can proclaim His praises. 00:38:56.03\00:38:57.80 Why? 00:38:57.83\00:38:59.17 Because we know what it was like 00:38:59.20\00:39:00.54 to walk in darkness, 00:39:00.57\00:39:01.90 because we know what it was like 00:39:01.94\00:39:03.27 to be stuck in Egypt. 00:39:03.30\00:39:04.67 We have experienced His deliverance, 00:39:04.71\00:39:07.28 and because of that, 00:39:07.31\00:39:08.64 we can share what He has done in our lives. 00:39:08.68\00:39:11.01 The third thing they were to share 00:39:11.05\00:39:12.38 is the universality of the gospel 00:39:12.41\00:39:13.78 that the gospel was not just for the Jewish people, 00:39:13.82\00:39:16.12 it was for the entire world. 00:39:16.15\00:39:19.22 Other people could join themselves, 00:39:19.25\00:39:22.26 accept this covenant, and be part of God's people. 00:39:22.29\00:39:26.59 We see this in Isaiah 56. 00:39:26.63\00:39:28.60 Isaiah 56:6 also the sons of the foreigner, 00:39:28.63\00:39:31.80 these are other people who did not, 00:39:31.83\00:39:34.40 were not Jewish, not of Jewish lineage, 00:39:34.44\00:39:36.87 and maybe did not follow Him, 00:39:36.91\00:39:38.74 but they could join themselves with His people. 00:39:38.77\00:39:43.11 "The sons of the foreigner 00:39:43.14\00:39:44.48 who joined themselves to the Lord to serve Him, 00:39:44.51\00:39:47.72 to love the name of the Lord, 00:39:47.75\00:39:50.45 to be His servants, 00:39:50.49\00:39:52.29 everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath 00:39:52.32\00:39:55.59 and holds fast My covenant," 00:39:55.62\00:39:58.69 see that, "they can be brought 00:39:58.73\00:40:01.03 into covenant relationship with God Himself." 00:40:01.06\00:40:06.17 That's the purpose of the nation of Israel 00:40:06.20\00:40:08.70 to share the One true God with the world, 00:40:08.74\00:40:11.07 to share what God had done for them, 00:40:11.11\00:40:13.98 and to share that this gospel is to go to everyone. 00:40:14.01\00:40:17.25 Let's look now at some of the characteristics 00:40:17.28\00:40:19.55 of this great and mighty nation of people. 00:40:19.58\00:40:23.22 If we have time, we're going to do seven. 00:40:23.25\00:40:25.82 Characteristic number one, they are redeemed. 00:40:25.85\00:40:29.56 Look at Exodus 19. 00:40:29.59\00:40:30.93 This is the covenant that God made 00:40:30.96\00:40:33.29 with the children of Israel. 00:40:33.33\00:40:35.13 They had just come from Egypt. 00:40:35.16\00:40:36.56 It's actually three months since they had come from Egypt. 00:40:36.60\00:40:39.30 Now they encamp at the Mount Sinai. 00:40:39.33\00:40:42.44 And God says in Exodus 19:4, 00:40:42.47\00:40:44.77 "You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, 00:40:44.81\00:40:47.31 how I bore you on eagle's wings 00:40:47.34\00:40:49.88 and brought you to Myself." 00:40:49.91\00:40:51.98 What is God doing? 00:40:52.01\00:40:53.35 He's reminding them, that He delivered them, 00:40:53.38\00:40:56.25 that He worked on Pharaoh's heart 00:40:56.28\00:40:58.39 to let them go, 00:40:58.42\00:40:59.75 that He's the One who parted the Red Sea, 00:40:59.79\00:41:02.12 so they could go out on dry ground, 00:41:02.16\00:41:04.23 that He's the One who delivered them 00:41:04.26\00:41:05.86 from Egyptian bondage, 00:41:05.89\00:41:07.40 and He's the One who redeemed them. 00:41:07.43\00:41:10.57 And He reminds them not only of that, 00:41:10.60\00:41:12.27 but that He bore them on eagle's wings. 00:41:12.30\00:41:17.24 God brought them to Himself. 00:41:17.27\00:41:19.81 So characteristic number one, they are a redeemed people. 00:41:19.84\00:41:23.21 Number two, they are a loved people. 00:41:23.24\00:41:27.12 Deuteronomy 7:6. 00:41:27.15\00:41:30.49 Deuteronomy 7:6, 00:41:30.52\00:41:33.05 "You are a holy people to the Lord your God, 00:41:33.09\00:41:35.82 the Lord your God has chosen you 00:41:35.86\00:41:37.99 to be a people for Himself, 00:41:38.03\00:41:39.89 a special treasure above all the peoples 00:41:39.93\00:41:41.96 on the face of the earth." 00:41:42.00\00:41:43.33 They are a special holy set apart people. 00:41:43.37\00:41:45.77 Why? 00:41:45.80\00:41:47.14 Verse 7, "The Lord did not set His love on you, 00:41:47.17\00:41:50.41 nor chose you because you're more in number 00:41:50.44\00:41:52.34 than other people, 00:41:52.37\00:41:53.71 for you were the least of all the peoples, 00:41:53.74\00:41:56.31 but because the Lord loves you, 00:41:56.34\00:41:59.21 God chose them because He loved them." 00:41:59.25\00:42:02.75 They are a redeemed people, they are a loved people. 00:42:02.78\00:42:05.55 Characteristic number three, 00:42:05.59\00:42:07.39 they are people who are in covenant with Him. 00:42:07.42\00:42:10.96 They have made a choice to walk in covenant with Him. 00:42:10.99\00:42:15.83 Exodus 19:5. 00:42:15.86\00:42:18.53 We already read verse 4 00:42:18.57\00:42:19.90 about how He brought them out from Egypt. 00:42:19.93\00:42:21.30 And as the eagle, 00:42:21.34\00:42:23.10 He bore them up on eagle's wings. 00:42:23.14\00:42:24.91 And then verse 5. 00:42:24.94\00:42:26.27 "Now therefore, 00:42:26.31\00:42:27.64 if you will indeed obey My voice, 00:42:27.68\00:42:29.71 and keep My covenant, 00:42:29.74\00:42:32.08 then you will be a special treasure to Me 00:42:32.11\00:42:34.32 above all people, for all the earth is mine." 00:42:34.35\00:42:36.99 May they've made a choice 00:42:37.02\00:42:38.35 to enter into this covenant relationship 00:42:38.39\00:42:41.66 with God. 00:42:41.69\00:42:43.02 Characteristic number four, 00:42:43.06\00:42:44.39 they are anointed with His Spirit 00:42:44.43\00:42:48.86 and they have His law. 00:42:48.90\00:42:50.47 Isaiah 59:21, 00:42:50.50\00:42:53.74 "As for me," says the Lord, 00:42:53.77\00:42:55.10 'this is My covenant with them: 00:42:55.14\00:42:57.37 My Spirit who is upon you, 00:42:57.41\00:43:00.61 and My words which I have put in your mouth 00:43:00.64\00:43:02.88 shall not depart from your mouth, 00:43:02.91\00:43:04.95 and then it goes on to the mouths 00:43:04.98\00:43:06.31 of your descendants, and so forth." 00:43:06.35\00:43:08.45 So this covenant, 00:43:08.48\00:43:09.82 He puts with that His Spirit upon them 00:43:09.85\00:43:13.66 and His words in their mouth. 00:43:13.69\00:43:17.06 They are as a people, anointed with His Spirit. 00:43:17.09\00:43:22.40 Characteristic number five, 00:43:22.43\00:43:24.03 they choose to walk in obedience. 00:43:24.07\00:43:26.57 Now this is not the obedience, Pastor John, 00:43:26.60\00:43:28.44 where you grit your teeth, and you try harder. 00:43:28.47\00:43:30.31 This is not the obedience where you say, 00:43:30.34\00:43:32.14 as they said, all that the Lord has said 00:43:32.17\00:43:34.34 we're going to do and then they realize 00:43:34.38\00:43:36.04 we can't do any of that in our own strength. 00:43:36.08\00:43:38.28 This is that obedience that comes from Christ, 00:43:38.31\00:43:41.48 as they submit to Him and surrender to Him, 00:43:41.52\00:43:45.25 and are dependent on Him and abide in Him 00:43:45.29\00:43:48.49 as the branches do with the vine. 00:43:48.52\00:43:51.69 They walk in obedience. 00:43:51.73\00:43:54.43 Characteristic number six, they teach other people, 00:43:54.46\00:43:57.63 especially their children, His ways. 00:43:57.67\00:44:01.30 Deuteronomy 4:9, 00:44:01.34\00:44:03.67 "Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, 00:44:03.71\00:44:07.94 lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, 00:44:07.98\00:44:11.08 lest they depart from your heart 00:44:11.11\00:44:13.35 all the days of your life, 00:44:13.38\00:44:15.02 teach them to your children, 00:44:15.05\00:44:16.75 and to your grandchildren." 00:44:16.79\00:44:20.46 God knew that it would be easy for them 00:44:20.49\00:44:22.22 to forget where they came from. 00:44:22.26\00:44:23.76 It would be easy for them to forget who they were 00:44:23.79\00:44:26.16 and who they belong to. 00:44:26.19\00:44:28.10 So it was important that they were reminded 00:44:28.13\00:44:30.40 on a daily basis 00:44:30.43\00:44:31.77 and they reminded their children 00:44:31.80\00:44:33.13 and grandchildren of who their God was. 00:44:33.17\00:44:36.24 And finally, number seven, they love the Lord, 00:44:36.27\00:44:39.77 and they honor His Sabbath day. 00:44:39.81\00:44:43.98 We already read the scripture in Isaiah 56. 00:44:44.01\00:44:46.35 You can look it up, but it talks about 00:44:46.38\00:44:47.88 how they will be in covenant with Him 00:44:47.92\00:44:50.29 and honor His Sabbath and love His name. 00:44:50.32\00:44:54.12 So what a privilege to be called God's people 00:44:54.16\00:44:57.63 and we know that extends 00:44:57.66\00:44:59.29 from literal Israel to spiritual Israel 00:44:59.33\00:45:01.73 as the Church of God today. 00:45:01.76\00:45:03.16 Amen. Thank you, Jill. 00:45:03.20\00:45:04.57 Always on target. Praise the Lord. 00:45:04.60\00:45:06.90 Wonderful set up for make your name great. 00:45:06.94\00:45:11.64 I think Ryan did this on one of our past lessons 00:45:11.67\00:45:13.44 that I thought about this 00:45:13.48\00:45:14.81 because we are in a nation and in a world 00:45:14.84\00:45:17.08 where people just like to be around great people. 00:45:17.11\00:45:19.91 You know, you talked about some names 00:45:19.95\00:45:21.28 that bring out certain feelings like, 00:45:21.32\00:45:24.09 let's just go ahead and throw some more in the park, 00:45:24.12\00:45:25.72 Marilyn Monroe, Abraham Lincoln, 00:45:25.75\00:45:28.02 Nelson Mandela, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 00:45:28.06\00:45:30.86 Bill Gates, Muhammad Ali, 00:45:30.89\00:45:33.09 float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. 00:45:33.13\00:45:35.23 These names awaken within us 00:45:35.26\00:45:37.87 a certain desire to be around people 00:45:37.90\00:45:39.97 that have a title or a name. 00:45:40.00\00:45:42.27 But when we look at this particular lesson, 00:45:42.30\00:45:46.54 this lesson is saying to us, 00:45:46.57\00:45:48.74 you are not great until God makes you great. 00:45:48.78\00:45:51.38 That's right. 00:45:51.41\00:45:52.75 All the men that are admired in the eyes of the world 00:45:52.78\00:45:55.02 are people that have made themselves great. 00:45:55.05\00:45:57.19 That's right. 00:45:57.22\00:45:58.55 Which reminds me of the Tower of Babel. 00:45:58.59\00:46:01.26 People that have built their own towers, 00:46:01.29\00:46:03.43 their own ivory towers, their own golden buildings, 00:46:03.46\00:46:05.96 their own nameplates. 00:46:05.99\00:46:07.50 My wife and I were walking down the streets of Los Angeles 00:46:07.53\00:46:09.83 once in Hollywood. 00:46:09.86\00:46:12.53 And people were admiring the stars on the ground. 00:46:12.57\00:46:15.80 And I was walking down kind of feeling 00:46:15.84\00:46:17.51 oh, yeah, whatever. 00:46:17.54\00:46:19.01 I said, I don't see my name down there. 00:46:19.04\00:46:20.88 And I said, I'm glad my name is not down there. 00:46:20.91\00:46:23.68 Because no animal can walk by 00:46:23.71\00:46:25.28 and you mean, whatever. 00:46:25.31\00:46:27.18 You know, my name is going to be in the kingdom, 00:46:27.22\00:46:30.02 where God is going to make my name 00:46:30.05\00:46:32.25 and our names great. 00:46:32.29\00:46:33.62 Amen? 00:46:33.66\00:46:34.99 God is not going to put your name 00:46:35.02\00:46:36.36 in a store on the ground 00:46:36.39\00:46:37.73 where people can spit out and walk on it 00:46:37.76\00:46:39.09 and trample on it. 00:46:39.13\00:46:40.46 But God is going to put His name on our forehead, 00:46:40.50\00:46:42.96 and only then can we understand and know the greatness of God. 00:46:43.00\00:46:47.27 So look at what the promise is the Lord made in Genesis 12:2. 00:46:47.30\00:46:51.54 What a promise. 00:46:51.57\00:46:52.91 He says, "I will make you a great nation." 00:46:52.94\00:46:55.34 And we know we've been talking about Abraham quite a bit. 00:46:55.38\00:46:58.28 The Lord was able to fulfill this promise. 00:46:58.31\00:47:00.62 Because when God makes a promise to make anyone great, 00:47:00.65\00:47:03.95 only God can fulfill their promise. 00:47:03.99\00:47:06.89 I will make you a great nation. 00:47:06.92\00:47:08.86 I will bless you, and make your name great. 00:47:08.89\00:47:12.99 And you shall be a blessing to this very day. 00:47:13.03\00:47:16.56 We know that Abraham is a blessing. 00:47:16.60\00:47:18.60 And how is he a blessing to us? 00:47:18.63\00:47:20.47 If anyone is in Christ, 00:47:20.50\00:47:23.41 he or she is Abraham seed 00:47:23.44\00:47:24.91 and the heir according to the promise. 00:47:24.94\00:47:26.78 What is that promise? 00:47:26.81\00:47:28.31 As the Lord said to Abraham, 00:47:28.34\00:47:29.74 one day your descendants shall be like 00:47:29.78\00:47:31.55 the stars of the sky. 00:47:31.58\00:47:33.42 The Bible makes it clear in Revelation, 00:47:33.45\00:47:34.88 there's a number which no man can number, 00:47:34.92\00:47:37.29 the redeemed of all the ages. 00:47:37.32\00:47:39.19 Because of the promise and the covenant God 00:47:39.22\00:47:40.89 made with Abraham, 00:47:40.92\00:47:42.26 that covenant will be fulfilled through spiritual Israel, 00:47:42.29\00:47:45.99 through those who accept the glory and the power of God. 00:47:46.03\00:47:50.13 But not only did God make that promise to Abraham, 00:47:50.17\00:47:52.80 He also made that promise to David. 00:47:52.83\00:47:55.17 Look at 2 Samuel 7:8-9. 00:47:55.20\00:47:58.07 I'll read it in your hearing. 00:47:58.11\00:47:59.84 "Now therefore, 00:47:59.87\00:48:01.84 thus shall you say to my servant, David, 00:48:01.88\00:48:05.71 thus says the Lord of hosts, 00:48:05.75\00:48:07.55 I took you from the sheepfold." 00:48:07.58\00:48:09.72 Now, when you listen to this, 00:48:09.75\00:48:11.09 look at how God brought us from where we are, 00:48:11.12\00:48:12.45 where we are today, 00:48:12.49\00:48:13.82 from where we were, I was a disc jockey. 00:48:13.86\00:48:16.32 I was a gambler, pool hustler party, 00:48:16.36\00:48:18.26 I was a person living for the world, 00:48:18.29\00:48:20.60 living to the disgust of God. 00:48:20.63\00:48:23.30 But look at me today, praise God for that. 00:48:23.33\00:48:26.37 "Like David, I took you from the sheepfold 00:48:26.40\00:48:28.77 from following the sheep 00:48:28.80\00:48:30.94 to be ruler over my people over Israel. 00:48:30.97\00:48:34.44 And I have been with you wherever you have gone. 00:48:34.48\00:48:37.41 And I've cut off all your enemies 00:48:37.45\00:48:39.21 from before you 00:48:39.25\00:48:40.58 and I've made you a great name, 00:48:40.62\00:48:42.95 like the name of the great men who are on the earth." 00:48:42.98\00:48:47.39 It's humbling, Jill. 00:48:47.42\00:48:48.76 You all know when we travel around the world 00:48:48.79\00:48:50.23 and people say, "I watch you, I see you." 00:48:50.26\00:48:51.86 It's humbling. 00:48:51.89\00:48:53.23 We've got to make sure that we maintain the reality 00:48:53.26\00:48:55.40 that we are not the ones that are great. 00:48:55.43\00:48:57.67 But the God is the one that is great, 00:48:57.70\00:48:59.67 because on any given day without any prior notice, 00:48:59.70\00:49:01.70 and for no apparent reason, 00:49:01.74\00:49:03.07 God could say enough, 00:49:03.10\00:49:04.91 and God's name will still be great in the earth. 00:49:04.94\00:49:06.88 So praise God for the humility 00:49:06.91\00:49:09.04 that comes with the recognition 00:49:09.08\00:49:10.85 that God has not called us to be great for greatness sake. 00:49:10.88\00:49:13.52 That's right. 00:49:13.55\00:49:14.88 But God has called to lift up Jesus Christ. 00:49:14.92\00:49:16.99 Only He is the one to be exalted. 00:49:17.02\00:49:19.15 He alone is great. 00:49:19.19\00:49:21.72 The Bible makes it clear in 1 Chronicles 16:25, 00:49:21.76\00:49:25.13 the true greatness of the Lord's. 00:49:25.16\00:49:27.26 Listen to the words of God, 00:49:27.30\00:49:30.27 "For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised. 00:49:30.30\00:49:34.37 He is also to be feared above all gods." 00:49:34.40\00:49:38.84 There is no God greater 00:49:38.87\00:49:42.11 than the God who inhabits the universe. 00:49:42.14\00:49:44.91 There is no throne. 00:49:44.95\00:49:46.38 Every now and then I would take up my iPad. 00:49:46.41\00:49:48.55 I am what you might call the most... 00:49:48.58\00:49:52.15 What's the word I can say, amateur, 00:49:52.19\00:49:53.56 amateur, amateur astronomer. 00:49:53.59\00:49:55.82 My astronomy is so amateur that I look to the heavens 00:49:55.86\00:49:59.29 through my iPad. 00:49:59.33\00:50:01.00 I don't even own the telescope. 00:50:01.03\00:50:02.90 I keep trying to get one, but I can't buy one. 00:50:02.93\00:50:05.57 But I think about how God in His glory 00:50:05.60\00:50:08.30 in this vast universe can hold it all together. 00:50:08.34\00:50:12.01 And when I look out into the night, 00:50:12.04\00:50:13.94 and I look out into the heavens, 00:50:13.98\00:50:15.31 and I look out into the stars, 00:50:15.34\00:50:16.85 how we can here in Southern Illinois, 00:50:16.88\00:50:19.38 we can see stars without number, 00:50:19.41\00:50:21.38 and our great God knows each star by name. 00:50:21.42\00:50:26.05 That's great. 00:50:26.09\00:50:27.69 He doesn't forget when He put them there, 00:50:27.72\00:50:30.09 as He said to Job, where were you. 00:50:30.13\00:50:32.89 Where were you when I laid the heavens? 00:50:32.93\00:50:34.76 Where were you when I told the ocean so far, 00:50:34.80\00:50:37.33 but go no further? 00:50:37.37\00:50:38.70 God alone is great. 00:50:38.73\00:50:40.24 But we find that there are those attempts on earth, 00:50:40.27\00:50:43.30 as it was in the very beginning of men 00:50:43.34\00:50:45.47 attempting to make themselves great. 00:50:45.51\00:50:47.81 Look at Genesis 11:4, 00:50:47.84\00:50:50.15 making the contrast between the greatness 00:50:50.18\00:50:52.58 that comes from God, 00:50:52.61\00:50:53.95 and the greatness, the futility of greatness 00:50:53.98\00:50:56.75 that men tried to accomplish for themselves. 00:50:56.79\00:50:59.59 Genesis 11:4, "And they said, 00:50:59.62\00:51:02.12 'Come, let us build ourselves a city, 00:51:02.16\00:51:06.16 and the tower, whose top is in the heavens. 00:51:06.19\00:51:09.33 Let us make a name for ourselves." 00:51:09.36\00:51:12.33 Anytime your greatness doesn't come from God, 00:51:12.37\00:51:15.00 you're trying to make a name for yourself, 00:51:15.04\00:51:17.01 not for the glory of God. 00:51:17.04\00:51:18.37 "Lest we be scattered abroad 00:51:18.41\00:51:20.14 over the face of the whole earth." 00:51:20.18\00:51:22.48 However, there's a however, Jill, 00:51:22.51\00:51:24.98 when God makes you great, 00:51:25.01\00:51:27.22 God then becomes responsible for every success in your life. 00:51:27.25\00:51:32.29 But like every covenant, the covenant is conditional. 00:51:32.32\00:51:36.16 You do what God says, He will do exceedingly, 00:51:36.19\00:51:39.46 abundantly above all that you can ask or think. 00:51:39.49\00:51:43.06 Look at Malachi 3:10, the covenant, 00:51:43.10\00:51:46.13 and I've often called this the least that we can do 00:51:46.17\00:51:49.10 to show our gratitude towards God. 00:51:49.14\00:51:51.77 What did He promised when we follow 00:51:51.81\00:51:53.34 the covenant of giving? 00:51:53.38\00:51:55.01 Here's what he says. 00:51:55.04\00:51:56.44 Malachi 3:10, 00:51:56.48\00:51:57.81 "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, 00:51:57.85\00:51:59.88 that there may be food in My house, 00:51:59.91\00:52:01.88 and try me now in this says the Lord of hosts, 00:52:01.92\00:52:04.95 'If I will not open to you the windows of heaven 00:52:04.99\00:52:08.72 and pour you out such a blessing 00:52:08.76\00:52:11.53 that there will not be room enough 00:52:11.56\00:52:13.53 to receive it." 00:52:13.56\00:52:14.90 When you are faithful to God, God says, 00:52:14.93\00:52:17.50 if you keep the covenant of honoring Me, 00:52:17.53\00:52:20.07 I will more than abundantly supply 00:52:20.10\00:52:22.30 all of your lack. 00:52:22.34\00:52:23.67 I will, as Paul says, supply all of your need, 00:52:23.71\00:52:27.98 according to My riches and glory. 00:52:28.01\00:52:29.84 And have you seen 00:52:29.88\00:52:31.21 God's credit limit lately, Jill? 00:52:31.25\00:52:33.98 He doesn't count. 00:52:34.02\00:52:35.35 He doesn't count His wealth by cattle, 00:52:35.38\00:52:37.09 He counts His wealth by hills. 00:52:37.12\00:52:39.12 The silver and gold belongs to Him. 00:52:39.15\00:52:41.09 He alone is the One that is worthy to be praised. 00:52:41.12\00:52:45.09 David the Psalmist I love it when he extols the name of God. 00:52:45.13\00:52:48.16 And I said this to Shelly, but I'm going to say it to you. 00:52:48.20\00:52:50.33 God doesn't just want us to uplift Him in our words. 00:52:50.37\00:52:53.60 He wants us to uplift Him in our lives. 00:52:53.64\00:52:57.14 Psalm 107:1-3, 00:52:57.17\00:52:59.21 "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, 00:52:59.24\00:53:00.61 for He is good! 00:53:00.64\00:53:02.78 For His mercy endures forever. 00:53:02.81\00:53:05.31 Let the redeemed of the Lord," what? 00:53:05.35\00:53:07.35 "Say so, 00:53:07.38\00:53:08.85 whom the Lord has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, 00:53:08.88\00:53:11.85 and gathered out of the lands." 00:53:11.89\00:53:14.42 Now what can God do for us? 00:53:14.46\00:53:15.79 Listen to this, Psalms 107:33-38. 00:53:15.82\00:53:19.06 I'm trying to go fast. 00:53:19.09\00:53:21.26 "He turns rivers into a wilderness, 00:53:21.30\00:53:23.67 and the water springs into dry ground, 00:53:23.70\00:53:25.93 a fruitful land into barrenness, 00:53:25.97\00:53:28.14 for the wickedness of those who dwell in it. 00:53:28.17\00:53:30.34 He turns a wilderness into pools of water 00:53:30.37\00:53:33.11 and dry land to water springs. 00:53:33.14\00:53:35.01 There He makes the hungry dwell, 00:53:35.04\00:53:37.58 that they may establish a city for a dwelling place. 00:53:37.61\00:53:40.82 And sow fields and plant vineyards, 00:53:40.85\00:53:43.39 that they may yield a fruitful harvest. 00:53:43.42\00:53:46.15 He also blesses them, and they multiply greatly, 00:53:46.19\00:53:49.89 and He does not let their cattle decrease." 00:53:49.92\00:53:53.60 So very quickly, 00:53:53.63\00:53:54.96 why should we serve the Lord? 00:53:55.00\00:53:56.36 Here's what the Lord does. 00:53:56.40\00:53:58.80 We are going to one day get the privilege of meeting 00:53:58.83\00:54:00.70 the great God. 00:54:00.74\00:54:02.07 Are you looking forward to that? 00:54:02.10\00:54:03.44 Amen. 00:54:03.47\00:54:04.81 The Bible is not silent on who the great God is. 00:54:04.84\00:54:07.58 One day all the nations will come to the realization. 00:54:07.61\00:54:10.58 Acts 4:12, 00:54:10.61\00:54:12.05 "Nor is there salvation in any other, 00:54:12.08\00:54:14.78 for there is no other name under heaven 00:54:14.82\00:54:17.32 given among men 00:54:17.35\00:54:18.79 by which we must be saved." 00:54:18.82\00:54:20.72 That is the name of Jesus. 00:54:20.76\00:54:22.49 What does the Bible say? 00:54:22.52\00:54:23.86 Ask Isaiah the prophet, what does he say about God? 00:54:23.89\00:54:26.23 Isaiah 46:9, 00:54:26.26\00:54:28.10 "Remember the former things of old, 00:54:28.13\00:54:29.46 for I am God, and there is no other. 00:54:29.50\00:54:31.90 I am God and there is none like Me." 00:54:31.93\00:54:33.84 That is true greatness. 00:54:33.87\00:54:35.20 Isaiah 44:8, 00:54:35.24\00:54:37.57 "Do not fear, nor be afraid, 00:54:37.61\00:54:39.94 have I not told you from that time 00:54:39.97\00:54:41.51 and declare it?
