Yes. 00:02:00.22\00:02:01.55 And the lady who is always ready 00:02:01.58\00:02:04.62 with a list, Jill Morikone. 00:02:04.65\00:02:06.55 Twelve points today. Twelve points today. 00:02:06.59\00:02:08.62 Oh, wow. 00:02:08.66\00:02:09.99 Well, make the first point and have our prayer for us. 00:02:10.03\00:02:12.46 Sure, absolutely. 00:02:12.49\00:02:14.23 Holy Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus. 00:02:14.26\00:02:16.33 Thanking You for the gift of grace 00:02:16.36\00:02:18.10 and the gift of Your Word, and the gift of Your Spirit. 00:02:18.13\00:02:21.27 And would You come just now, 00:02:21.30\00:02:22.84 anoint us and open up our minds and hearts 00:02:22.87\00:02:25.34 to your truth in Jesus' name. 00:02:25.37\00:02:27.51 Amen. Thank you. Thank you so much. 00:02:27.54\00:02:30.65 You know, when we talk about all future generations, 00:02:30.68\00:02:33.98 we think about all future generations 00:02:34.02\00:02:35.75 and only the Lord knows what is going to happen 00:02:35.78\00:02:38.52 to all future generations. 00:02:38.55\00:02:40.12 But speaking about the covenants, 00:02:40.16\00:02:41.72 God has made provision that every one of us 00:02:41.76\00:02:45.56 can be blessed 00:02:45.59\00:02:47.33 throughout generation after generation, 00:02:47.36\00:02:49.33 after generation, all the way into eternity. 00:02:49.36\00:02:53.13 The text for this week's lesson is a very short one, 00:02:53.17\00:02:56.67 but powerful when you think about sin and salvation. 00:02:56.71\00:02:59.84 Genesis 6:8, "But Noah found grace 00:02:59.87\00:03:04.01 in the eyes of the Lord." 00:03:04.05\00:03:06.28 Amen. 00:03:06.31\00:03:07.65 This story that Dr. Gerhard Hasel 00:03:07.68\00:03:09.82 began this study lesson with or this lesson study with, 00:03:09.85\00:03:13.02 it's profound, listen to it. 00:03:13.05\00:03:15.46 He talked about the analogy between bacteria and sin. 00:03:15.49\00:03:19.29 Listen to this. 00:03:19.33\00:03:20.66 Bacteria are plant organisms too small to see 00:03:20.70\00:03:23.67 without a microscope. 00:03:23.70\00:03:25.33 A single common round bacterium 00:03:25.37\00:03:27.70 appears no larger than a pencil point 00:03:27.74\00:03:31.51 even after being magnified 1000 times, 00:03:31.54\00:03:35.91 given favorable conditions 00:03:35.94\00:03:37.45 for growth, sufficient, warmth, moisture and food 00:03:37.48\00:03:40.42 bacteria multiply at an extremely rapid rate. 00:03:40.45\00:03:44.75 A mature cell simply splits into two daughter cells 00:03:44.79\00:03:49.82 when fission or exponential doubling takes place. 00:03:49.86\00:03:52.86 Every hour, one bacterium can produce 00:03:52.89\00:03:57.40 over 18 million new bacteria in 24 hours. 00:03:57.43\00:04:03.74 At the end of 48 hours, 00:04:03.77\00:04:05.44 hundreds of billions of bacteria will have appeared. 00:04:05.47\00:04:08.88 This microscopic phenomena 00:04:08.91\00:04:11.21 is the natural world's illustration 00:04:11.25\00:04:13.31 of the rapid growth of evil after the fall. 00:04:13.35\00:04:17.22 Wow. That's amazing. 00:04:17.25\00:04:19.15 So, friends, allow me to introduce you to sin, 00:04:19.19\00:04:22.09 the nemesis, the archenemy, the antagonist. 00:04:22.12\00:04:24.69 Sin has been around for a long time. 00:04:24.73\00:04:27.56 Sin lives in every community and every human heart. 00:04:27.60\00:04:31.03 Sin holds the patent for every evil creation. 00:04:31.07\00:04:34.74 Sin is tasteless, odorless, colorless, 00:04:34.77\00:04:36.71 but it will take your life in small doses. 00:04:36.74\00:04:39.11 Sin creates racism, but it's not prejudice. 00:04:39.14\00:04:42.14 Sin is an equal opportunity killer, 00:04:42.18\00:04:45.15 it excludes no one from the grave. 00:04:45.18\00:04:47.42 Sin does not love us like us, or could care less about us. 00:04:47.45\00:04:50.59 Sin wants us to live divided, derided and undecided, 00:04:50.62\00:04:53.82 but Jesus said He will save His people from their sins. 00:04:53.86\00:04:57.63 Amen. 00:04:57.66\00:04:58.99 That's the everlasting covenant. 00:04:59.03\00:05:01.33 This week at a glance are the five questions 00:05:01.36\00:05:03.53 that will be answered over the five day period. 00:05:03.57\00:05:06.13 What did sin do to God's creation? 00:05:06.17\00:05:08.60 That's what I'm going to be dealing with. 00:05:08.64\00:05:10.21 Pastor Ryan, what were 00:05:10.24\00:05:11.61 some of the characteristics of Noah? 00:05:11.64\00:05:14.08 What elements were involved in the covenant with Noah, 00:05:14.11\00:05:17.01 which will, Shelley Quinn will cover. 00:05:17.05\00:05:19.11 In what way has God's grace been revealed 00:05:19.15\00:05:20.82 in the covenant with Noah 00:05:20.85\00:05:22.18 before the flood, Pastor Dinzey? 00:05:22.22\00:05:23.75 And I believe Jill, 00:05:23.79\00:05:25.42 what does the covenant God made with humanity 00:05:25.45\00:05:28.36 after the flood teach us about His universal love for us. 00:05:28.39\00:05:33.26 How exponentially did sin multiply? 00:05:33.29\00:05:37.10 Genesis 6:5, the Bible says. 00:05:37.13\00:05:40.17 Genesis 6:5, the Bible says, 00:05:40.20\00:05:42.97 "Then the Lord saw 00:05:43.00\00:05:45.57 that the wickedness of man was great in the earth. 00:05:45.61\00:05:49.98 And that every intent of the thoughts of his heart 00:05:50.01\00:05:53.48 was only evil" how often? 00:05:53.52\00:05:55.55 "Continually." 00:05:55.58\00:05:58.65 When you think about that 00:05:58.69\00:06:00.02 compared to the divine declaration 00:06:00.06\00:06:01.96 at the end of creation with Genesis 1:31 says, 00:06:01.99\00:06:04.99 "Everything that God made indeed was very good." 00:06:05.03\00:06:07.66 You go from very good to every intent or thoughts, 00:06:07.70\00:06:11.83 only evil continually. 00:06:11.87\00:06:14.54 The exponential growth and doubling 00:06:14.57\00:06:16.91 or fission of the sin virus. 00:06:16.94\00:06:20.01 We find that simply all that happened 00:06:20.04\00:06:23.45 for this multiplicity of sin to envelop the earth 00:06:23.48\00:06:27.02 was the actions of one man. 00:06:27.05\00:06:29.62 Romans 5:12, 00:06:29.65\00:06:31.35 "Therefore just through one man sin, 00:06:31.39\00:06:33.76 just through one man, 00:06:33.79\00:06:35.22 sin entered the world and death through sin 00:06:35.26\00:06:38.06 and thus death spread to all men because all sinned." 00:06:38.09\00:06:42.83 What that means is, 00:06:42.86\00:06:44.43 it didn't take the sin of everyone 00:06:44.47\00:06:46.13 to reintroduce and reintroduce and reintroduce death. 00:06:46.17\00:06:49.34 But as in Adam 1 Corinthians 15:22, 00:06:49.37\00:06:52.07 "As in Adam, all die, 00:06:52.11\00:06:53.64 even so in Christ, all shall be made alive." 00:06:53.68\00:06:56.31 Wherever there is a downside in Adam, 00:06:56.34\00:06:58.55 there was an upside in Christ. 00:06:58.58\00:07:00.25 The wages of sin is death, 00:07:00.28\00:07:02.32 but the gift of God is eternal life 00:07:02.35\00:07:03.89 in Christ Jesus, our Lord. 00:07:03.92\00:07:05.75 Tell me about death, 00:07:05.79\00:07:07.12 but don't forget to tell me about life. 00:07:07.16\00:07:08.52 That's what the Bible is saying. 00:07:08.56\00:07:10.29 How could things get bad so quickly? 00:07:10.33\00:07:12.73 Sin grew exponentially. 00:07:12.76\00:07:15.20 That's the fission of sin. 00:07:15.23\00:07:16.87 With every birth, 00:07:16.90\00:07:18.57 the nature of Adam was replicated. 00:07:18.60\00:07:22.14 How amazing it must've been when Adam saw his first son? 00:07:22.17\00:07:26.57 His first son killed. 00:07:26.61\00:07:28.84 Cain killed Abel, and then 00:07:28.88\00:07:32.05 sin just took on an ignominious characteristic. 00:07:32.08\00:07:36.05 How difficult it must've been for Adam to bury his first son? 00:07:36.08\00:07:40.59 No funeral parlors, no embalming, 00:07:40.62\00:07:43.56 nobody to mourn his death, 00:07:43.59\00:07:45.43 just a mom and dad laying their son to rest 00:07:45.46\00:07:50.17 and an angry brother looking at what he had done. 00:07:50.20\00:07:54.17 The Bible didn't say he repented by any means, 00:07:54.20\00:07:56.67 but sin had taken his first toll on humanity. 00:07:56.71\00:07:59.41 An open door if you open the door to sin, 00:07:59.44\00:08:02.28 you cannot control what sin does after that. 00:08:02.31\00:08:05.45 Read Romans 6:16, Jill, if you can for me. 00:08:05.48\00:08:07.58 Romans 6:16, when you open the door to sin, 00:08:07.62\00:08:10.55 you cannot tell sin what to do after that. 00:08:10.59\00:08:13.89 Romans 6:16. 00:08:13.92\00:08:15.39 "Do you not know that 00:08:15.42\00:08:16.76 to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey 00:08:16.79\00:08:18.83 you are that one's slaves whom you obey, 00:08:18.86\00:08:21.10 whether of sin leading to death 00:08:21.13\00:08:22.63 or of obedience leading to righteousness?" 00:08:22.66\00:08:24.97 When the door opens to sin, 00:08:25.00\00:08:26.63 you cannot tell sin what to do and what not to do 00:08:26.67\00:08:29.14 because you become immediately a slave 00:08:29.17\00:08:32.47 and slaves never tell the master, 00:08:32.51\00:08:34.84 the master tells the slave. 00:08:34.88\00:08:36.98 Well, I know you don't want to be a slave to sin, 00:08:37.01\00:08:39.38 but I would love to be a slave to righteousness. 00:08:39.41\00:08:42.58 I'd love to be tied to the arm of someone where the, 00:08:42.62\00:08:45.85 where the fetters cannot be broken. 00:08:45.89\00:08:47.59 And all he has in mind for me is my best interest at heart. 00:08:47.62\00:08:50.56 Amen. 00:08:50.59\00:08:51.93 Not just my best interest, but the best he has to offer, 00:08:51.96\00:08:54.83 because I don't want some, I don't want somebody 00:08:54.86\00:08:56.33 that's just going to give me my best interest. 00:08:56.36\00:08:58.70 I want someone that will disclose to me 00:08:58.73\00:09:00.47 things that I have never even imagined, 00:09:00.50\00:09:02.44 and that person is Christ. 00:09:02.47\00:09:04.17 So, now let's look very quickly at the anatomy of the spread, 00:09:04.21\00:09:08.14 the anatomy of the spread. 00:09:08.18\00:09:10.05 Let's first go to Genesis 3:6, the anatomy of the spread. 00:09:10.08\00:09:14.48 We're going to watch this in eight parts, 00:09:14.52\00:09:17.15 Jill, eight parts. 00:09:17.19\00:09:20.02 The question is, how could things get so bad, 00:09:20.06\00:09:24.66 so quickly? 00:09:24.69\00:09:26.80 Genesis 3:6, "So the woman, 00:09:26.83\00:09:30.43 so when the woman saw that 00:09:30.47\00:09:31.80 the tree was good for food, 00:09:31.83\00:09:33.87 that it was pleasant to the eyes 00:09:33.90\00:09:35.64 and a tree desirable to make one wise, 00:09:35.67\00:09:38.31 she took of its fruit and ate. 00:09:38.34\00:09:41.61 She also gave to her husband with her and he ate." 00:09:41.64\00:09:44.75 Not saying that they were in the same vicinity, 00:09:44.78\00:09:47.08 but there was only one other person on the planet. 00:09:47.12\00:09:49.45 His name was Adam. 00:09:49.48\00:09:50.82 So the man with her, 00:09:50.85\00:09:52.19 the only other man with her was the one that 00:09:52.22\00:09:54.42 had the decision to make next. 00:09:54.46\00:09:56.79 And as we were reminded in Romans 5:12, 00:09:56.83\00:09:59.43 "He consciously with his eyes wide open 00:09:59.46\00:10:02.96 wasn't deceived as she was, 00:10:03.00\00:10:05.67 but he made the conscious decision 00:10:05.70\00:10:07.30 to open the door to sin." 00:10:07.34\00:10:09.60 The first stage in the anatomy of the spread, 00:10:09.64\00:10:13.48 Eve gave way to her desire, and Adam joined her. 00:10:13.51\00:10:18.15 The second thing, Genesis 3:11-13, 00:10:18.18\00:10:22.82 and he said, 00:10:22.85\00:10:24.29 that is the Lord came to Adam and Eve. 00:10:24.32\00:10:27.32 I want to just say something, praise God, 00:10:27.36\00:10:29.09 the Lord didn't wait for them to come to him. 00:10:29.12\00:10:30.46 Amen. 00:10:30.49\00:10:31.83 The beautiful thing about salvation 00:10:31.86\00:10:33.19 is Christ comes to us. 00:10:33.23\00:10:34.90 And He said, "Who told you that you were naked?" 00:10:34.93\00:10:38.53 He's asking Adam, because Adam said, 00:10:38.57\00:10:40.60 we were naked we hide ourselves. 00:10:40.64\00:10:42.44 "Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you 00:10:42.47\00:10:45.01 that you should not eat?" 00:10:45.04\00:10:46.78 Then the man said, 00:10:46.81\00:10:48.24 'The woman whom you gave to be with me, 00:10:48.28\00:10:50.15 she gave me of the tree and I ate.' 00:10:50.18\00:10:52.75 And the Lord said to the woman, 00:10:52.78\00:10:54.35 'What is this that you have done?' 00:10:54.38\00:10:56.12 And the woman said, 00:10:56.15\00:10:57.75 'The serpent deceived me and I ate.'" 00:10:57.79\00:11:00.69 The second stage in the anatomy of the fall is 00:11:00.72\00:11:04.19 no one likes to take personal responsibility. 00:11:04.23\00:11:08.23 That is true. That's what happened. 00:11:08.26\00:11:09.96 Now let's look at the third one. 00:11:10.00\00:11:12.20 The third one, 00:11:12.23\00:11:13.57 Cain ignored God's requirements, 00:11:13.60\00:11:15.70 Genesis 4:5. 00:11:15.74\00:11:18.34 Genesis 4:5, The Bible says in a very short passage, 00:11:18.37\00:11:24.18 "But he did not respect Cain and his offering, 00:11:24.21\00:11:27.82 and Cain was very angry and his countenance fell." 00:11:27.85\00:11:32.59 The third aspect of the anatomy of the fall is 00:11:32.62\00:11:36.19 God doesn't just take what you give Him 00:11:36.22\00:11:38.79 because in the covenant, 00:11:38.83\00:11:40.26 there are specific requirements. 00:11:40.30\00:11:42.50 We can't just serve God according to our pleasure 00:11:42.53\00:11:44.83 and our desires, 00:11:44.87\00:11:46.33 God says it A, B and C, 00:11:46.37\00:11:48.30 and it's got to be A, B and C. 00:11:48.34\00:11:50.51 And what happened here is Cain desired something 00:11:50.54\00:11:53.94 other than what God required. 00:11:53.98\00:11:55.78 What's the message? 00:11:55.81\00:11:57.15 The covenant of God is as specific as God 00:11:57.18\00:12:00.15 and God accepts no substitutes. 00:12:00.18\00:12:02.92 The fourth stage in the rebellion, 00:12:02.95\00:12:06.72 Genesis 4:8, 00:12:06.76\00:12:09.62 "Now Cain talked with Abel, his brother, 00:12:13.06\00:12:16.50 and it came to pass, 00:12:16.53\00:12:18.70 when they were in the field 00:12:18.73\00:12:21.44 that Cain rose up against Abel, his brother 00:12:21.47\00:12:25.04 and killed him." 00:12:25.07\00:12:26.51 What happens when we ignore the requirements of God? 00:12:26.54\00:12:29.54 We have no control over what the devil does next. 00:12:29.58\00:12:32.91 Once we yield to the power of sin, 00:12:32.95\00:12:35.48 someone else takes the controls. 00:12:35.52\00:12:37.55 When Cain yielded to the power of sin, 00:12:37.59\00:12:40.06 the person nearest to him, his brother became a victim. 00:12:40.09\00:12:43.32 Be careful, you can victimize those that are nearer to you 00:12:43.36\00:12:46.16 when you desire, when you desire not 00:12:46.19\00:12:48.53 to follow the requirements of God's Word. 00:12:48.56\00:12:51.37 When you follow the requirements of God's Word, 00:12:51.40\00:12:53.44 then those who are near to you 00:12:53.47\00:12:55.44 are safer than they would have been, 00:12:55.47\00:12:57.51 if you had done otherwise. 00:12:57.54\00:12:59.71 Point number five, Genesis 4:19, 00:12:59.74\00:13:02.54 what else happened when sin entered the world? 00:13:02.58\00:13:06.25 "Then Lamech took for himself two wives, 00:13:06.28\00:13:10.99 the name of one was Adah, 00:13:11.02\00:13:13.15 and the name of the second was Zillah." 00:13:13.19\00:13:15.89 Now, why is this a part of the anatomy of the fall? 00:13:15.92\00:13:18.99 Because polygamy was introduced through Lamech. 00:13:19.03\00:13:22.46 God never gave Adam two wives. 00:13:22.50\00:13:24.70 He gave him one wife. What happens? 00:13:24.73\00:13:27.54 Notice the continue breaking down 00:13:27.57\00:13:29.90 of the covenant of God. 00:13:29.94\00:13:31.47 We begin to modify it. 00:13:31.51\00:13:32.84 And then we begin to practice, but God never authorized. 00:13:32.87\00:13:35.68 Number six, what happens to Lamech? 00:13:35.71\00:13:38.98 Genesis 4:23, "Then Lamech said to his wives, 00:13:39.01\00:13:42.22 Adah and Zillah hear my voice wives of Lamech 00:13:42.25\00:13:45.39 listen to my speech for I have killed a man 00:13:45.42\00:13:48.02 for wounding me, 00:13:48.06\00:13:49.52 even a young man for hurting me." 00:13:49.56\00:13:51.63 Murder sets in at a higher stage. 00:13:51.66\00:13:53.76 The murder that began with Cain 00:13:53.80\00:13:55.33 continues to proliferate itself. 00:13:55.36\00:13:57.60 Number seven, Genesis 6:2, 00:13:57.63\00:14:00.97 "The sons of God saw the daughters of men 00:14:01.00\00:14:02.84 that they were beautiful, and they took wives 00:14:02.87\00:14:04.54 for themselves of whom they chose, 00:14:04.57\00:14:07.24 ungodly women united with godly men 00:14:07.28\00:14:11.31 and godly men were the ones that made the ungodly choice." 00:14:11.35\00:14:15.02 And number eight, 00:14:15.05\00:14:16.42 the earth was filled with violence. 00:14:16.45\00:14:18.55 Genesis 6:5, "Then the Lord saw the wickedness of man 00:14:18.59\00:14:22.06 was great in the earth. 00:14:22.09\00:14:23.63 And that every intent of their thoughts, 00:14:23.66\00:14:25.16 of their heart was only evil continually." 00:14:25.19\00:14:28.46 The fall, the anatomy of rebellion is all outlined 00:14:28.50\00:14:32.30 when we ignore the covenant of God. 00:14:32.33\00:14:35.34 Thank you so much, Pastor. 00:14:35.37\00:14:36.71 Praise the Lord. 00:14:36.74\00:14:38.87 Monday's lesson, "The Man Noah," 00:14:38.91\00:14:41.74 and I love this lesson 00:14:41.78\00:14:43.11 because it helps us to see that God, 00:14:43.14\00:14:45.51 you know, he chose 00:14:45.55\00:14:46.88 these wonderful people like Noah, 00:14:46.92\00:14:48.65 and obviously as pastor brought out very clearly, 00:14:48.68\00:14:51.05 he made a covenant with Adam and Eve. 00:14:51.09\00:14:52.79 He made a covenant with Noah as we're going to talk. 00:14:52.82\00:14:54.82 And he made a covenant with Abraham. 00:14:54.86\00:14:56.29 These were men of faith. 00:14:56.32\00:14:57.66 These were men 00:14:57.69\00:14:59.03 whom we can learn some lessons from. 00:14:59.06\00:15:00.40 And what Monday's lesson is doing is it's helping us 00:15:00.43\00:15:02.53 to kind of press the zoom button on the camera. 00:15:02.56\00:15:05.73 Not to so much focus in on the person of Noah, 00:15:05.77\00:15:08.90 but the God who is working obviously 00:15:08.94\00:15:11.07 through this man, Noah. 00:15:11.11\00:15:12.71 So we learned a little bit about what kind of man Noah was 00:15:12.74\00:15:16.04 in the context of this covenant conversation. 00:15:16.08\00:15:19.15 So, let's go to Genesis Chapter 6. 00:15:19.18\00:15:21.32 Pastor was already there, 00:15:21.35\00:15:22.68 but we're going to go to Genesis 00:15:22.72\00:15:24.05 and we're going to read 6:9, 00:15:24.09\00:15:27.19 and notice what the Bible says here about Noah. 00:15:27.22\00:15:29.56 It says, "This is the genealogy of Noah. 00:15:29.59\00:15:32.99 Noah was a just man," 00:15:33.03\00:15:35.86 of course, another version 00:15:35.90\00:15:37.57 may say righteous man, same thing. 00:15:37.60\00:15:40.14 "He was perfect in his generations 00:15:40.17\00:15:43.00 or he was blameless in his generations" 00:15:43.04\00:15:45.21 as another version might say, 00:15:45.24\00:15:46.68 and it says "that Noah walked with God." 00:15:46.71\00:15:49.81 And so what Monday's lesson 00:15:49.84\00:15:51.31 is doing is it's basically going in 00:15:51.35\00:15:53.45 and zooming in on those three concepts. 00:15:53.48\00:15:55.52 Then Noah was a just and righteous, man. 00:15:55.55\00:15:57.59 He was a blameless, a perfect man in God's eyes. 00:15:57.62\00:16:00.12 What does that mean? 00:16:00.16\00:16:01.49 And, of course, it says he walked with God. 00:16:01.52\00:16:03.66 And so we're going to look at that right now. 00:16:03.69\00:16:05.03 The Bible says that Noah was a righteous man. 00:16:05.06\00:16:08.26 He was a just man. 00:16:08.30\00:16:10.37 And so what does that mean for us 00:16:10.40\00:16:12.70 and within the context 00:16:12.73\00:16:14.34 of the conversation of covenant? 00:16:14.37\00:16:16.07 Because, of course, you cannot have a covenant 00:16:16.10\00:16:18.47 with the Lord unless 00:16:18.51\00:16:20.24 you are practicing righteousness, 00:16:20.28\00:16:22.54 unless you are living in righteousness. 00:16:22.58\00:16:24.61 And so Proverbs 12:20, 00:16:24.65\00:16:27.02 I have a few verses here that I, 00:16:27.05\00:16:28.72 there were so many I could have used 00:16:28.75\00:16:30.49 and I was having a hard time 00:16:30.52\00:16:31.85 picking which ones I wanted to use, 00:16:31.89\00:16:33.22 but I'm going to start with Proverbs 12:28, 00:16:33.25\00:16:35.79 which kind of sets the foundation. 00:16:35.82\00:16:37.86 Proverbs 12:28, the Bible says, 00:16:37.89\00:16:40.23 "In the way of righteousness is life 00:16:40.26\00:16:44.87 and in its pathway, 00:16:44.90\00:16:47.20 there is no death," right? 00:16:47.24\00:16:49.34 And so we, we see here that 00:16:49.37\00:16:50.81 we want to seek the way of righteousness 00:16:50.84\00:16:53.98 and the Bible even clearly communicates to us 00:16:54.01\00:16:56.51 through 2 Timothy Chapter 2, 00:16:56.54\00:16:58.48 we're going to kind of go a little quickly here 00:16:58.51\00:16:59.91 so you guys can get ready to turn those pages. 00:16:59.95\00:17:02.82 2 Timothy 2:22 communicates to us that this righteous way 00:17:02.85\00:17:07.46 in which there is no death, we need to be pursuing it. 00:17:07.49\00:17:10.49 It's something that we pursue, as God pursues us, 00:17:10.53\00:17:13.53 we also need to be pursuing righteousness. 00:17:13.56\00:17:16.00 And Noah was a righteous man. 00:17:16.03\00:17:17.60 He pursued righteousness so should we. 00:17:17.63\00:17:20.24 Again, 2 Timothy 2:22, the Bible says, 00:17:20.27\00:17:23.00 "Flee also youthful lust, but pursue righteousness, 00:17:23.04\00:17:27.84 faith, love, peace with those 00:17:27.88\00:17:30.05 who call on the Lord out of a pure heart." 00:17:30.08\00:17:33.11 If you are living in righteousness, 00:17:33.15\00:17:34.95 you're pursuing righteousness then, 00:17:34.98\00:17:36.85 kind of, as Jesus spoke of there in the, 00:17:36.89\00:17:39.35 on the Sermon on the Mount, 00:17:39.39\00:17:40.72 and He said very clearly that 00:17:40.76\00:17:42.69 He wants us to become pure in heart. 00:17:42.72\00:17:44.33 Blessed are those who become pure in heart, right? 00:17:44.36\00:17:47.36 And that's exactly what happens. 00:17:47.40\00:17:48.73 We become pure in heart 00:17:48.76\00:17:50.10 when we hunger and thirst for righteousness. 00:17:50.13\00:17:52.93 And that's what man, what Noah was. 00:17:52.97\00:17:55.04 He was a man of righteousness. 00:17:55.07\00:17:56.87 He pursued righteousness 00:17:56.91\00:17:58.57 and therefore he was pure in heart. 00:17:58.61\00:18:00.88 Where does this righteousness come from though? 00:18:00.91\00:18:03.18 Let's just ask that question and let's answer it. 00:18:03.21\00:18:05.25 Where does this righteousness come from? 00:18:05.28\00:18:06.82 Obviously from not ourselves, right? 00:18:06.85\00:18:08.58 The Bible makes it very clear that our righteousness 00:18:08.62\00:18:10.79 or anything that we could possibly muster up 00:18:10.82\00:18:12.89 or believe in and of ourselves that 00:18:12.92\00:18:15.16 we can produce that is righteous or that is right, 00:18:15.19\00:18:17.89 or that is just, obviously that's not the case. 00:18:17.93\00:18:20.43 The Bible describes it as filthy rags. 00:18:20.46\00:18:23.03 And obviously we know that 00:18:23.06\00:18:24.40 this righteousness must come from God. 00:18:24.43\00:18:26.37 Philippians 1:11, the Bible says, 00:18:26.40\00:18:29.10 "Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, 00:18:29.14\00:18:32.04 which are by Jesus Christ 00:18:32.07\00:18:34.61 to the glory and praise of God." 00:18:34.64\00:18:36.95 So where did Noah get his righteousness 00:18:36.98\00:18:39.55 even though the scripture says Noah was a righteous man, 00:18:39.58\00:18:42.12 was it something that he produced? 00:18:42.15\00:18:43.72 Obviously not. 00:18:43.75\00:18:45.09 He received this righteousness from God 00:18:45.12\00:18:47.26 because he was a just man. 00:18:47.29\00:18:48.62 He was a man pure in heart. 00:18:48.66\00:18:49.99 He sought the Lord daily. 00:18:50.03\00:18:51.36 He had a relationship, 00:18:51.39\00:18:52.73 a covenant relationship with God. 00:18:52.76\00:18:54.70 And in this case, 00:18:54.73\00:18:56.06 obviously he received that righteousness from God. 00:18:56.10\00:18:58.67 I love 2 Corinthians 5:21, one of my favorite scriptures. 00:18:58.70\00:19:02.07 I'll have to read it for you here. 00:19:02.10\00:19:03.61 2 Corinthians 5:21, 00:19:03.64\00:19:05.17 "For he made him 00:19:05.21\00:19:06.61 who knew no sin to be sin for us, 00:19:06.64\00:19:09.51 that we might become the righteousness of God." 00:19:09.54\00:19:12.41 Here's the key, in him, not through us. 00:19:12.45\00:19:15.08 It doesn't come from us. It comes from God. 00:19:15.12\00:19:16.82 Noah was a righteous man in God. 00:19:16.85\00:19:19.65 His righteousness came from the Lord. 00:19:19.69\00:19:22.06 And, of course, this righteousness 00:19:22.09\00:19:24.16 is the difference between life and death. 00:19:24.19\00:19:26.23 That's all that we're talking about here. 00:19:26.26\00:19:27.66 This righteousness 00:19:27.70\00:19:29.03 is the difference between life and death. 00:19:29.06\00:19:30.97 I love what Jesus says in Matthew 5:20, again, 00:19:31.00\00:19:34.00 going back to the Sermon on the Mount, 00:19:34.04\00:19:35.80 "He says, "For I say to you 00:19:35.84\00:19:37.17 that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness 00:19:37.21\00:19:39.87 of the Scribes and Pharisees, 00:19:39.91\00:19:42.01 you will, by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." 00:19:42.04\00:19:45.51 So what is Christ implying there? 00:19:45.55\00:19:47.15 He's saying, look, 00:19:47.18\00:19:48.52 you must have the true righteousness 00:19:48.55\00:19:50.35 that comes from God. 00:19:50.39\00:19:51.72 Not all of the things that you see on a horizontal level, 00:19:51.75\00:19:54.32 but on a vertical level, 00:19:54.36\00:19:55.69 we need to have our eyes on God as Noah, 00:19:55.72\00:19:57.89 the righteous man did. 00:19:57.93\00:19:59.26 He kept his eyes planted on God. 00:19:59.29\00:20:01.83 We also see that the Bible says here 00:20:01.86\00:20:03.57 in the same text again, 00:20:03.60\00:20:04.93 Genesis 6:9, that Noah was, 00:20:04.97\00:20:07.40 he was blameless, he was perfect. 00:20:07.44\00:20:09.30 Now what does that mean? Okay. 00:20:09.34\00:20:10.84 This is something that is very much debated 00:20:10.87\00:20:13.41 within the church today 00:20:13.44\00:20:14.78 because some people say, you know, 00:20:14.81\00:20:16.14 we got to be perfect and others say, 00:20:16.18\00:20:17.51 oh no, there's no way that we can be perfect. 00:20:17.55\00:20:19.38 But the Bible says that Noah was a perfect man. 00:20:19.41\00:20:22.72 What does that mean? 00:20:22.75\00:20:24.59 As I was studying this through, 00:20:24.62\00:20:26.55 my attention was drawn back 00:20:26.59\00:20:27.92 to one of my favorite texts, Romans 12:2, 00:20:27.96\00:20:31.13 which I believe gives us 00:20:31.16\00:20:32.49 some insight as to what this perfection means. 00:20:32.53\00:20:35.83 There is some context clues 00:20:35.86\00:20:37.20 that we need to pay attention to here. 00:20:37.23\00:20:38.63 Romans 12:2, Paul writes this. 00:20:38.67\00:20:40.54 He says, "And do not be conformed to this world, 00:20:40.57\00:20:44.57 but be transformed by the renewing of your mind 00:20:44.61\00:20:47.44 that you may prove what is that good 00:20:47.48\00:20:49.71 and acceptable and perfect will of God." 00:20:49.74\00:20:53.52 Noah was a perfect man 00:20:53.55\00:20:55.25 because he was not of the world. 00:20:55.28\00:20:57.39 In comparison to the world around him, 00:20:57.42\00:20:58.99 he did not live in the world. 00:20:59.02\00:21:00.36 He was not of the world. 00:21:00.39\00:21:01.89 He lived with his attention, 00:21:01.92\00:21:03.69 his focus and his whole being towards God. 00:21:03.73\00:21:06.96 And so in God's eyes, of course, we're never... 00:21:07.00\00:21:10.07 Noah was not of the world, 00:21:10.10\00:21:11.80 but we know, we know that he sought the will of the Lord. 00:21:11.83\00:21:14.37 And so in this case, you and I 00:21:14.40\00:21:16.30 will never, ever feel perfect in the eyes of others. 00:21:16.34\00:21:19.21 And we shouldn't be, right? 00:21:19.24\00:21:20.58 We should never even consider ourselves perfect. 00:21:20.61\00:21:22.58 But we know that in God's eyes, 00:21:22.61\00:21:24.05 if we are seeking the Word of the Lord, 00:21:24.08\00:21:25.81 we're living in the righteousness of Christ 00:21:25.85\00:21:27.78 and not the ways of the world 00:21:27.82\00:21:29.68 as we see here clearly spelled out 00:21:29.72\00:21:31.05 in Romans 12:2, 00:21:31.09\00:21:32.89 then we see clearly that we can live in 00:21:32.92\00:21:34.92 what is known as the perfect will of God. 00:21:34.96\00:21:37.86 Another one that comes to mind here is Hebrews 10:14. 00:21:37.89\00:21:41.33 Hebrews 10:14 says, "For by one offering, 00:21:41.36\00:21:44.10 he has perfected forever, 00:21:44.13\00:21:46.94 those who are being continual sanctified," okay. 00:21:46.97\00:21:51.87 Noah was perfect in the eyes of the Lord 00:21:51.91\00:21:53.88 because he was in a saving covenant relationship 00:21:53.91\00:21:57.45 with God each and every day. 00:21:57.48\00:21:59.21 In the eyes of the world, he wasn't perfect, 00:21:59.25\00:22:01.55 in his own eyes as it should be. 00:22:01.58\00:22:03.49 I don't wake up any day and say, 00:22:03.52\00:22:04.85 Oh, Ryan, look at you. 00:22:04.89\00:22:06.22 You're so perfect today. 00:22:06.25\00:22:07.59 You're just so, such a perfect Christian. 00:22:07.62\00:22:08.96 No, we feel like, you know, we feel like Paul, right? 00:22:08.99\00:22:10.83 We know we're the chief of sinners, 00:22:10.86\00:22:12.19 we're unworthy. 00:22:12.23\00:22:13.56 I'm sure that's how Noah felt, but in the eyes of God, 00:22:13.60\00:22:15.93 because he was walking in covenant relationship, 00:22:15.96\00:22:18.27 he was a righteous man, pure in heart. 00:22:18.30\00:22:20.57 God saw him as a perfect man walking in his perfect will. 00:22:20.60\00:22:25.47 The Bible says, "Noah walked with God." 00:22:25.51\00:22:28.04 Now whether you believe that is literal or not, you know, 00:22:28.08\00:22:31.78 it's possible, even though 00:22:31.81\00:22:33.15 it's not in the text that, you know, 00:22:33.18\00:22:34.52 there could have been some type of Christophany 00:22:34.55\00:22:36.02 where Christ appeared to him, 00:22:36.05\00:22:37.79 maybe in man flesh like form, Bible doesn't say that. 00:22:37.82\00:22:41.22 But it does say that he walked with the Lord. 00:22:41.26\00:22:42.92 I only said that because some people say, 00:22:42.96\00:22:44.29 well, that's literal. 00:22:44.33\00:22:45.66 You know, Enoch walked with God 00:22:45.69\00:22:47.23 and as God walked with Adam in the garden. 00:22:47.26\00:22:49.10 And so he did with Noah. 00:22:49.13\00:22:50.63 And whether you want to believe that or not, 00:22:50.67\00:22:52.00 that's not the point. 00:22:52.03\00:22:53.37 I think the greater point here, 00:22:53.40\00:22:54.74 the spiritual point is that each and every one of us 00:22:54.77\00:22:56.64 can still walk with God as Noah walked with the Lord. 00:22:56.67\00:22:59.64 Notice what Micah 6:8 says. 00:22:59.67\00:23:02.14 Micah 6:8, man, my time's getting away, 00:23:02.18\00:23:04.08 pray for that clock. 00:23:04.11\00:23:05.55 "He has shown you, O man, what is good? 00:23:05.58\00:23:08.55 And what does the Lord require of you, 00:23:08.58\00:23:10.79 but to do justly, to love mercy 00:23:10.82\00:23:13.59 and to walk humbly with your God?" 00:23:13.62\00:23:16.62 How many of you have walked physically with Jesus? 00:23:16.66\00:23:19.06 You and Jesus have met in the flesh and walk? 00:23:19.09\00:23:20.63 Okay. 00:23:20.66\00:23:22.00 Obviously none of us here on the Sabbath School Panel, 00:23:22.03\00:23:23.83 maybe there's someone out there that might say they have. 00:23:23.87\00:23:26.00 Nonetheless, we are still commanded 00:23:26.03\00:23:27.77 and encouraged to walk with the Lord, 00:23:27.80\00:23:30.51 spiritually walk with the Lord. 00:23:30.54\00:23:32.87 Romans 1:16 says, 00:23:32.91\00:23:35.54 "For in it," speaking of the gospel, 00:23:35.58\00:23:38.61 the gospel that Paul was unashamed of, 00:23:38.65\00:23:40.82 this is Romans 1:16-17. 00:23:40.85\00:23:43.28 And I'm reading verse 17, here it says, 00:23:43.32\00:23:44.69 "For, in it, the righteousness of God 00:23:44.72\00:23:46.29 is revealed from faith to faith. 00:23:46.32\00:23:49.26 As it is written, the just shall live by faith." 00:23:49.29\00:23:51.13 And faith to faith is communicating a walk, 00:23:51.16\00:23:53.40 a step-by-step daily committedness 00:23:53.43\00:23:55.80 and sanctification in the Lord. 00:23:55.83\00:23:58.07 I see 2 Corinthians 3:18, 00:23:58.10\00:24:00.20 "But we all with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror, 00:24:00.24\00:24:02.64 the glory of the Lord are being transformed," 00:24:02.67\00:24:04.47 how often? 00:24:04.51\00:24:05.97 "From glory to glory." 00:24:06.01\00:24:07.38 Again, it's just, it's a process. 00:24:07.41\00:24:09.14 It involves a process. 00:24:09.18\00:24:10.51 It takes time. It's a daily walk. 00:24:10.55\00:24:12.51 And, of course, 2 Corinthians 4:16, 00:24:12.55\00:24:15.08 "Therefore we do not lose heart," Paul says, 00:24:15.12\00:24:17.25 "even though our outward man is perishing 00:24:17.29\00:24:19.52 yet, the inward man is being renewed day by day." 00:24:19.55\00:24:23.43 That is the sanctifying spiritual walk 00:24:23.46\00:24:25.83 that each and every one of us should have. 00:24:25.86\00:24:27.80 The Bible says that Noah found grace 00:24:27.83\00:24:30.40 in the eyes of the Lord, because of all these things. 00:24:30.43\00:24:32.07 He was righteous. 00:24:32.10\00:24:33.44 He was blameless. He was perfect. 00:24:33.47\00:24:34.80 And he walked with the Lord. 00:24:34.84\00:24:36.17 I would encourage you to do the same, my friends, 00:24:36.20\00:24:37.54 we are in a covenant relationship with the Lord. 00:24:37.57\00:24:40.21 So walk with Him now while you still can. 00:24:40.24\00:24:43.31 Thank you, Ryan. Wow, that was... 00:24:43.35\00:24:45.65 Ooh, that come up with warmth and conviction, 00:24:45.68\00:24:48.88 but don't go away after the man Noah, 00:24:48.92\00:24:51.32 we're going to be coming 00:25:26.62\00:25:30.83 Hello, friends, welcome back to Sabbath School Panel. 00:25:30.86\00:25:33.09 We're going to give the time to Shelley Quinn 00:25:33.13\00:25:35.20 under the title Covenant with Noah. 00:25:35.23\00:25:37.43 "Covenant with Noah," as you've already established 00:25:37.47\00:25:40.60 Noah was a just man, a righteous man. 00:25:40.64\00:25:44.54 He was man who trusted in God. 00:25:44.57\00:25:46.81 And he stood alone for God among all of his contemporaries 00:25:46.84\00:25:50.55 in the world that were so wicked. 00:25:50.58\00:25:53.58 And God comes and lets him know, 00:25:53.62\00:25:54.98 hey, I'm going to hit the reset button. 00:25:55.02\00:25:56.75 This is just too much. 00:25:56.79\00:25:58.92 And only Noah 00:25:58.95\00:26:00.92 and his family ended up being saved on the ark. 00:26:00.96\00:26:04.13 Let's look at Genesis 6:18. 00:26:04.16\00:26:07.20 This is the Lord speaking. 00:26:07.23\00:26:09.90 And He says, "But yeah, I'm going to hit the reset, 00:26:09.93\00:26:14.04 now I'm going to destroy this wicked world. 00:26:14.07\00:26:16.37 But I Lord will establish my covenant with you. 00:26:16.40\00:26:22.34 And you shall come into the ark, 00:26:22.38\00:26:23.98 you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you." 00:26:24.01\00:26:28.55 This is the first time the word covenant 00:26:28.58\00:26:33.56 is used in the Old Testament, 00:26:33.59\00:26:37.19 but it's not God's first idea of covenant 00:26:37.23\00:26:42.76 because we know Paul told Timothy, 00:26:42.80\00:26:45.80 God gave us grace in Christ Jesus 00:26:45.83\00:26:50.44 before time began, 00:26:50.47\00:26:52.81 before He even laid the foundation of the world. 00:26:52.84\00:26:56.21 Revelation 13:8 says that, "Jesus was the lamb slain 00:26:56.24\00:27:02.68 from the foundation of the world." 00:27:02.72\00:27:04.35 God knew with foreknowledge, He knew it was going to happen, 00:27:04.39\00:27:08.69 and He established 00:27:08.72\00:27:10.73 from eternity past this covenant of redemption, 00:27:10.76\00:27:15.50 and if you were with, 00:27:15.53\00:27:16.87 if you were with us last week, 00:27:16.90\00:27:18.70 we learned that covenant in Hebrew is berit 00:27:18.73\00:27:23.51 and it means to obligate or bind. 00:27:23.54\00:27:26.17 But we saw that God, there's two kinds of covenants. 00:27:26.21\00:27:30.45 There's covenants that's like a contract 00:27:30.48\00:27:33.65 between equal parties 00:27:33.68\00:27:35.48 that are going into a partnership 00:27:35.52\00:27:37.75 or a marriage covenant. 00:27:37.79\00:27:40.36 But then there is the covenant that is a will or a testament. 00:27:40.39\00:27:45.39 And it's interesting in the Greek, 00:27:45.43\00:27:48.10 the first is syntheke 00:27:48.13\00:27:50.83 that's between two people of equal power. 00:27:50.87\00:27:54.97 Let's say it that way, or diatheke, 00:27:55.00\00:27:58.41 and diatheke was the will or the testament. 00:27:58.44\00:28:01.68 It's always the word that is used for God's covenants, 00:28:01.71\00:28:06.35 whether in the Old or the New Testament. 00:28:06.38\00:28:08.28 So, what we are looking at here, 00:28:08.32\00:28:12.95 and I just think if we can get this in our mind 00:28:12.99\00:28:16.66 from eternity past God 00:28:16.69\00:28:18.69 had this covenant of redemption. 00:28:18.73\00:28:21.60 And what we see in scripture is He is gradually 00:28:21.63\00:28:26.80 unfolding His plan of redemption. 00:28:26.84\00:28:29.87 Do you remember when Jesus said to His disciples, 00:28:29.90\00:28:32.61 I've many more things to tell you, 00:28:32.64\00:28:34.54 but I can't tell you right now, 00:28:34.58\00:28:35.91 you're not ready. 00:28:35.94\00:28:37.28 Well, these people weren't ready. 00:28:37.31\00:28:38.65 So God is showing a little at a time 00:28:38.68\00:28:41.18 and let's look at this. 00:28:41.22\00:28:42.88 We saw that a covenant had several elements to it. 00:28:42.92\00:28:46.86 God affirms His promise right from the beginning saying, 00:28:46.89\00:28:51.29 this is My covenant. 00:28:51.33\00:28:53.03 This displays the grace of God, 00:28:53.06\00:28:56.50 the gift that He is going to either, 00:28:56.53\00:29:01.74 He's going to give it to Noah, 00:29:01.77\00:29:04.11 if Noah will receive it. 00:29:04.14\00:29:05.74 It is not a contract. 00:29:05.77\00:29:07.18 And let me tell you, 00:29:07.21\00:29:08.54 it is wrong ever to use the word contract 00:29:08.58\00:29:13.18 in the same breath with God's covenants. 00:29:13.21\00:29:15.45 God's covenants were never a contract. 00:29:15.48\00:29:19.09 It is not a union of equal partners. 00:29:19.12\00:29:22.26 Adam and Eve were to be beneficiaries of the will, 00:29:22.29\00:29:27.46 the testament of God. 00:29:27.50\00:29:30.10 And it did have a covenant obligation. 00:29:30.13\00:29:35.64 God's covenant is laid out all of His promises, 00:29:35.67\00:29:39.97 but then to enter into covenant with God, 00:29:40.01\00:29:44.88 there are some obligations and here it's that Noah 00:29:44.91\00:29:48.82 had to obey God when he gave him the call, 00:29:48.85\00:29:52.15 come into the ark. 00:29:52.19\00:29:54.09 If Noah and his family had not gone into the ark, 00:29:54.12\00:29:57.89 that covenant would have been null and void. 00:29:57.93\00:30:00.66 I mean, Noah would have perished 00:30:00.70\00:30:02.30 with everyone else. 00:30:02.33\00:30:04.17 So it's interesting when you think about this, 00:30:04.20\00:30:06.40 God explains I'm going to destroy the earth. 00:30:06.43\00:30:08.97 I am going to have this massive flood. 00:30:09.00\00:30:12.67 Well, it never rained. 00:30:12.71\00:30:15.78 He tells Noah, build an ark. 00:30:15.81\00:30:17.78 Noah had never seen an ark, 00:30:17.81\00:30:19.75 and not only did God tell him all of this stuff, 00:30:19.78\00:30:24.19 and not only did he save eight people, 00:30:24.22\00:30:26.22 he's going to save all of the animals 00:30:26.25\00:30:28.92 two of each of the unclean and seven of the clean. 00:30:28.96\00:30:33.73 So He tells Noah, lay up all this food. 00:30:33.76\00:30:36.83 Man, you talk about obedience. 00:30:36.87\00:30:39.30 This man who found grace with God, 00:30:39.33\00:30:42.50 walked in obedience, 00:30:42.54\00:30:43.91 which is what prepared him for this. 00:30:43.94\00:30:46.34 So Genesis 7:1 00:30:46.37\00:30:48.18 is God's first invitation in scripture to come. 00:30:48.21\00:30:52.75 And He says to Noah in Genesis 7:1, 00:30:52.78\00:30:57.09 "Come into the ark, you and all your household, 00:30:57.12\00:30:59.49 because I have seen that 00:30:59.52\00:31:01.46 you are righteous before me in this generation." 00:31:01.49\00:31:05.29 So this is a week before the flood. 00:31:05.33\00:31:07.66 God's calling them in. 00:31:07.70\00:31:09.03 Then God shuts them in. 00:31:09.06\00:31:10.60 He brings in the animals and everything. 00:31:10.63\00:31:13.00 And after seven days, 00:31:13.03\00:31:16.30 what happens, it's not that it just rains 00:31:16.34\00:31:19.04 for 40 days and 40 nights. 00:31:19.07\00:31:20.88 The scripture says that 00:31:20.91\00:31:22.74 the fountains of the great deep broke open. 00:31:22.78\00:31:25.91 So the water's coming up from underneath the earth 00:31:25.95\00:31:29.52 and the rains are coming down. 00:31:29.55\00:31:31.72 And I love this. 00:31:31.75\00:31:33.29 Hebrews 11 is one of my favorite chapters 00:31:33.32\00:31:36.12 because this is faith hall of fame. 00:31:36.16\00:31:40.50 And listen what Hebrews 11:7 says, 00:31:40.53\00:31:43.73 "By faith, Noah being divinely warned of things, 00:31:43.77\00:31:46.90 not yet seen, moved with godly fear. 00:31:46.94\00:31:50.64 And he prepared an ark 00:31:50.67\00:31:53.21 for the saving of his household, 00:31:53.24\00:31:55.81 by which he condemned the world and became," what? 00:31:55.84\00:32:01.35 "Became heir of the righteousness, 00:32:01.38\00:32:06.45 which is according to faith. 00:32:06.49\00:32:10.76 It has always been righteousness by faith. 00:32:10.79\00:32:14.56 It has always been salvation by grace 00:32:14.60\00:32:18.07 from the beginning of time. 00:32:18.10\00:32:21.24 So he entered into covenant by entering 00:32:21.27\00:32:24.37 into a walk of obedience. 00:32:24.41\00:32:26.74 And the means 00:32:26.78\00:32:28.11 by which God's covenant obligation is fulfilled. 00:32:28.14\00:32:32.18 It has always pointed forward to Christ. 00:32:32.21\00:32:36.79 Christ is our ark of safety. 00:32:36.82\00:32:40.39 He is our place of salvation. 00:32:40.42\00:32:44.89 Now, this is God's first call coming to the ark, 00:32:44.93\00:32:49.20 but it's not His last call. 00:32:49.23\00:32:50.83 Let me go through these quickly. 00:32:50.87\00:32:52.40 Exodus 24:12, the Lord said to Moses, 00:32:52.43\00:32:56.57 come up to me on the mountain and be there. 00:32:56.60\00:32:59.81 I will give you tablets of stone 00:32:59.84\00:33:01.68 and the law and the commandments, 00:33:01.71\00:33:03.35 which I have written that you may teach them. 00:33:03.38\00:33:05.75 Woo. 00:33:05.78\00:33:07.25 He's giving the law of love. 00:33:07.28\00:33:08.72 And by the way, 00:33:08.75\00:33:10.09 law in Hebrew means instruction. 00:33:10.12\00:33:12.05 So, the Ten Commandments is God's instruction of love. 00:33:12.09\00:33:17.03 Isaiah 1:18, 00:33:17.06\00:33:18.93 "Come now let us reason together, 00:33:18.96\00:33:21.20 says the Lord, 00:33:21.23\00:33:22.56 though your sins are like scarlet, 00:33:22.60\00:33:23.93 they shall be white as snow, 00:33:23.97\00:33:26.33 though their red is crimson, they shall be as wool." 00:33:26.37\00:33:30.94 Matthew 11:28 Jesus says, 00:33:30.97\00:33:34.78 "Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden. 00:33:34.81\00:33:39.11 And I will give you rest. 00:33:39.15\00:33:41.35 I will give you rest for your souls." 00:33:41.38\00:33:45.85 Mark 1:17, Jesus is looking around and He says, 00:33:45.89\00:33:50.89 "Come after Me, follow Me. 00:33:50.93\00:33:52.69 I'll make you fishers of men." 00:33:52.73\00:33:55.30 And then my favorite invitation from God when He invites us 00:33:55.33\00:34:01.30 to come to Him is Revelation 22:17, 00:34:01.34\00:34:06.24 "Then the spirit and the bride say, 00:34:06.27\00:34:09.78 come and let him who hears say come 00:34:09.81\00:34:15.32 and let him who thirsts come, whoever desires, 00:34:15.35\00:34:21.02 let him take of the water freely." 00:34:21.06\00:34:25.83 I want to say something to you. 00:34:25.86\00:34:28.90 This is to me. 00:34:28.93\00:34:31.10 And I know we all have certain topics we love. 00:34:31.13\00:34:34.57 This was life changing to me, the way God got my attention. 00:34:34.60\00:34:38.27 When He called me to full-time ministry 00:34:38.31\00:34:40.58 is He had me sit down 00:34:40.61\00:34:42.21 and do a study on the sanctuary. 00:34:42.24\00:34:44.88 And that led to a study on covenants. 00:34:44.91\00:34:48.25 It changed my life. 00:34:48.28\00:34:50.99 It was then that I learned 00:34:51.02\00:34:54.02 what faith and works have to do together. 00:34:54.06\00:34:56.73 What obedience and about the law of God. 00:34:56.76\00:35:00.66 If you will stay with us all this quarter, 00:35:00.70\00:35:03.97 as we go through this, 00:35:04.00\00:35:05.87 it is life changing to understand 00:35:05.90\00:35:10.31 that salvation is by grace. 00:35:10.34\00:35:12.54 The covenant of redemption is everlasting 00:35:12.57\00:35:15.61 and our God is calling to you, 00:35:15.64\00:35:20.52 inviting you to come. 00:35:20.55\00:35:24.39 Amen. Amen. 00:35:24.42\00:35:25.75 Well, this continues with the Wednesday's portion 00:35:25.79\00:35:29.29 and the "Sign of the Rainbow, 00:35:29.32\00:35:31.66 the Sign of the Rainbow" 00:35:31.69\00:35:33.36 and this based on Genesis Chapter 9 00:35:33.40\00:35:36.20 after the flood. 00:35:36.23\00:35:37.77 And so I say to you, you know, it's interesting. 00:35:37.80\00:35:40.87 I think just about everyone has seen the rainbow. 00:35:40.90\00:35:43.71 They are just so visible and they're just 00:35:43.74\00:35:47.18 a glorious manifestation of God's sign, 00:35:47.21\00:35:51.58 that He will not destroy the world again with a flood. 00:35:51.61\00:35:55.68 I even remember certain places 00:35:55.72\00:35:57.95 where I have been 00:35:57.99\00:35:59.32 when I saw a spectacular rainbow. 00:35:59.35\00:36:01.86 I remember driving down the road one time 00:36:01.89\00:36:03.29 and I just had to stop. 00:36:03.32\00:36:04.66 I just said, I have to take a picture of this 00:36:04.69\00:36:06.26 because it is a, again, a glorious manifestation, 00:36:06.29\00:36:10.07 a visible manifestation that there is a creator God. 00:36:10.10\00:36:15.00 Now, of course, people, scientists have come up with 00:36:15.04\00:36:18.47 how these rainbows are formed, 00:36:18.51\00:36:20.64 but God is the creator of the rainbow. 00:36:20.68\00:36:23.71 And, of course, I also know some, 00:36:23.75\00:36:25.65 most of you know, that 00:36:25.68\00:36:27.45 different groups have adopted the rainbow as a, 00:36:27.48\00:36:30.49 an emblem of their group or whatever they are, 00:36:30.52\00:36:33.05 but God is the originator of the rainbow. 00:36:33.09\00:36:35.42 And this is the truth 00:36:35.46\00:36:37.59 of God's covenant with His people. 00:36:37.63\00:36:40.70 Let's look in Genesis 9:12 00:36:40.73\00:36:45.70 because we have this question before us 00:36:45.73\00:36:47.54 is what did the Lord say the rainbow 00:36:47.57\00:36:49.20 would symbolize? 00:36:49.24\00:36:50.57 What does it symbolize? 00:36:50.61\00:36:52.84 Let's begin in verse 12, Genesis 9:12, and God said, 00:36:52.87\00:36:56.11 "This is the sign of the covenant, 00:36:56.14\00:36:59.58 which I make between me and you." 00:36:59.61\00:37:02.88 And notice, "And every living creature 00:37:02.92\00:37:05.62 that is with you," for how long? 00:37:05.65\00:37:08.86 "For perpetual generation." 00:37:08.89\00:37:11.76 This message is for us even today. 00:37:11.79\00:37:15.60 So, I encourage you 00:37:15.63\00:37:17.00 to continue looking at it in verse 13, 00:37:17.03\00:37:21.67 this is what God said, 00:37:21.70\00:37:23.04 "I set my rainbow," it's God's rainbow. 00:37:23.07\00:37:25.57 "I set my rainbow in the cloud, 00:37:25.61\00:37:27.94 and it shall be for the sign of the covenant 00:37:27.98\00:37:31.51 between me and the earth. 00:37:31.55\00:37:35.28 It shall be when I bring a cloud over the earth 00:37:35.32\00:37:37.92 that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud." 00:37:37.95\00:37:42.29 Now, I want to read to you 00:37:42.32\00:37:43.66 what some people description of a scientific description. 00:37:43.69\00:37:47.23 This is from Wikipedia 00:37:47.26\00:37:48.60 and there are many other places. 00:37:48.63\00:37:49.96 They say, a rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon 00:37:50.00\00:37:53.90 that is caused by reflection, 00:37:53.94\00:37:56.27 refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets 00:37:56.30\00:38:00.41 resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. 00:38:00.44\00:38:04.08 It takes the form of a multicolor circular disc 00:38:04.11\00:38:07.55 rainbows caused by sunlight, 00:38:07.58\00:38:09.08 always appear in the section of the sky 00:38:09.12\00:38:11.52 directly opposite the sun. 00:38:11.55\00:38:14.12 Now, most of us, as we look upon the earth, 00:38:14.16\00:38:17.56 we see just part of the rainbow, 00:38:17.59\00:38:19.23 but if you're in the sky way up there, 00:38:19.26\00:38:21.80 you can see the whole circle of the rainbow. 00:38:21.83\00:38:25.03 And it's a marvelous, marvelous thing. 00:38:25.07\00:38:26.84 There are pictures on the internet 00:38:26.87\00:38:28.20 and you can enjoy those. 00:38:28.24\00:38:30.57 Now, remember, 00:38:30.61\00:38:32.87 let's go back to Genesis Chapter 2, 00:38:32.91\00:38:34.64 because when the flood came it had not rained before. 00:38:34.68\00:38:39.58 So this is one of the reasons why the antediluvians 00:38:39.61\00:38:42.55 were making fun of Noah. 00:38:42.58\00:38:44.99 In Genesis 2:4-6, 00:38:45.02\00:38:47.49 God watered the earth in the way 00:38:47.52\00:38:50.43 it is described in Genesis 2:4-6. 00:38:50.46\00:38:53.53 "This is the history of the heavens and the earth 00:38:53.56\00:38:56.16 when they were created in the day 00:38:56.20\00:38:58.10 that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, 00:38:58.13\00:39:00.90 before any plant of the field was in the earth 00:39:00.94\00:39:02.94 and before any herbal the field had grown, 00:39:02.97\00:39:05.44 for the Lord God had not 00:39:05.47\00:39:07.48 caused it to rain on the earth, 00:39:07.51\00:39:09.11 and there was no man to till the ground, 00:39:09.14\00:39:11.35 but a mist went up from the earth 00:39:11.38\00:39:13.45 and water the whole face of the ground." 00:39:13.48\00:39:16.12 So, even today, when you see great storms, 00:39:16.15\00:39:19.95 hurricanes, typhoons, whatever you call them, 00:39:19.99\00:39:23.53 often, you will see a rainbow in the sky as a reminder 00:39:23.56\00:39:28.16 that God has made this promise that 00:39:28.20\00:39:30.47 He will not destroy the earth with a flood. 00:39:30.50\00:39:33.20 Now let's look at the wording of Genesis 9:15, 00:39:33.23\00:39:38.01 because it's very interesting. 00:39:38.04\00:39:40.21 It says, "And I will remember My covenant, 00:39:40.24\00:39:43.81 which is between Me and you 00:39:43.85\00:39:46.48 and every living creature of all flesh, 00:39:46.51\00:39:48.98 the waters shall never again, 00:39:49.02\00:39:51.65 become a flood to destroy all flesh." 00:39:51.69\00:39:54.26 This is God's promise. 00:39:54.29\00:39:56.83 Now it's interesting that He says, I will remember. 00:39:56.86\00:40:00.23 It's like, it's a reminder. 00:40:00.26\00:40:01.60 I'm sure that most of you 00:40:01.63\00:40:02.96 have done something to remind yourself. 00:40:03.00\00:40:04.37 I heard of the people putting something on their finger. 00:40:04.40\00:40:06.80 I tried that for a while, didn't work, 00:40:06.84\00:40:08.50 but God doesn't need a reminder. 00:40:08.54\00:40:12.24 His mercy is everlasting. 00:40:12.27\00:40:15.24 He speaks to us in the language for us to understand. 00:40:15.28\00:40:19.11 So, when he says, I will remember 00:40:19.15\00:40:21.38 is so that when you see it, 00:40:21.42\00:40:23.59 you will remember that 00:40:23.62\00:40:25.09 God has made this promise to us. 00:40:25.12\00:40:28.29 Now, let's continue reading. 00:40:28.32\00:40:30.36 It says, "The rainbow shall be in the cloud. 00:40:30.39\00:40:32.43 And I will look on it to remember." 00:40:32.46\00:40:34.96 Notice the everlasting covenant 00:40:35.00\00:40:37.07 between God and every living creature 00:40:37.10\00:40:39.07 of all flesh that is on the earth." 00:40:39.10\00:40:41.70 And God said to Noah, 00:40:41.74\00:40:43.17 "This is the sign of the covenant, 00:40:43.20\00:40:44.71 which I have established between me and all flesh 00:40:44.74\00:40:47.01 that is on the earth." 00:40:47.04\00:40:48.38 So this covenant that God made with Noah, 00:40:48.41\00:40:51.91 it says for all generation. 00:40:51.95\00:40:54.12 So it is for us as well. 00:40:54.15\00:40:56.15 And I encourage you to consider the marvelous gift of the Lord. 00:40:56.18\00:41:00.72 So many ways God has in nature 00:41:00.76\00:41:04.59 and in different things, 00:41:04.63\00:41:05.96 tries to teach us and reach us, 00:41:05.99\00:41:09.00 telling us that He is our creator. 00:41:09.03\00:41:12.10 Now, there is another sign, 00:41:12.13\00:41:13.47 which we don't have time to get into it. 00:41:13.50\00:41:14.84 That God says, 00:41:14.87\00:41:16.20 "This is a sign between me and you." 00:41:16.24\00:41:18.91 And this is the fourth commandment. 00:41:18.94\00:41:21.64 This is why, 00:41:21.68\00:41:23.01 now God turns the tables around. 00:41:23.04\00:41:24.38 And He says, 00:41:24.41\00:41:25.75 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy". 00:41:25.78\00:41:28.62 Read that in Exodus 20:8-11, 00:41:28.65\00:41:31.92 a great blessing is in store 00:41:31.95\00:41:33.86 for those that keep God sign between Him 00:41:33.89\00:41:37.26 and between Him and us. 00:41:37.29\00:41:39.59 Now, I want to bring something out to you 00:41:39.63\00:41:42.36 because there is another rainbow 00:41:42.40\00:41:45.03 that I would like to mention to you, 00:41:45.07\00:41:46.70 and this wonderful rainbow is around God's throne. 00:41:46.74\00:41:52.47 So let's go quickly 00:41:52.51\00:41:54.44 to the Book of Revelation Chapter 4, 00:41:54.48\00:41:59.81 I'm going to read verse 2 and 3. 00:41:59.85\00:42:01.42 Revelation 4:2-3, notice, 00:42:01.45\00:42:06.02 "And immediately I was in the spirit 00:42:06.05\00:42:08.42 and behold a throne was set in heaven 00:42:08.46\00:42:12.29 and one sat on the throne and he that sat on 00:42:12.33\00:42:16.87 was to look upon like a jasper and a sardius stone. 00:42:16.90\00:42:20.80 And there was a rainbow round about the throne inside, 00:42:20.84\00:42:24.87 like on to an emerald." 00:42:24.91\00:42:26.74 So this rainbow round about the throne, again, 00:42:26.78\00:42:30.81 we see this sign of mercy, it's even at the throne. 00:42:30.85\00:42:35.45 I mean, there are so many scriptures 00:42:35.48\00:42:36.82 that come to mind that remember in Hebrews Chapter 4, 00:42:36.85\00:42:40.49 it says that Jesus Christ 00:42:40.52\00:42:42.72 was tempted in all points like us we are, 00:42:42.76\00:42:44.16 let us therefore come boldly, 00:42:44.19\00:42:46.33 and this is come with confidence 00:42:46.36\00:42:47.86 before the throne of grace. 00:42:47.90\00:42:49.80 It is a throne of grace that is still open for us today. 00:42:49.83\00:42:53.07 And I want to read to you from Desire of Ages, page 493. 00:42:53.10\00:42:57.57 Notice, beautiful. 00:42:57.61\00:42:59.47 The rainbow of promise encircling the throne on high 00:42:59.51\00:43:04.85 is an everlasting testimony 00:43:04.88\00:43:08.15 that God so loved the world, 00:43:08.18\00:43:10.59 that He gave His only begotten Son 00:43:10.62\00:43:12.92 that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, 00:43:12.95\00:43:16.09 but have everlasting life. 00:43:16.12\00:43:17.96 John 3:16, it testifies 00:43:17.99\00:43:21.00 to the universe that God will never forsake His people 00:43:21.03\00:43:25.53 in their struggle with evil. 00:43:25.57\00:43:27.30 It is an assurance to us of strength 00:43:27.34\00:43:30.74 and protection as long 00:43:30.77\00:43:33.48 as the throne itself shall endure. 00:43:33.51\00:43:36.44 And God's throne is eternal. 00:43:36.48\00:43:39.91 Praise be to God. 00:43:39.95\00:43:41.42 Now consider for a moment 00:43:41.45\00:43:42.78 that we are living in these last days. 00:43:42.82\00:43:45.99 And when we look at the world today, 00:43:46.02\00:43:49.02 it is quickly approaching the time of Noah's time. 00:43:49.06\00:43:53.90 And, you know, even for me looking around, 00:43:53.93\00:43:58.43 I said, there's so much wickedness around 00:43:58.47\00:44:00.54 and it's a marvel. 00:44:00.57\00:44:03.17 It's a marvel that God still has mercy upon us 00:44:03.20\00:44:06.88 and the door of mercy still open. 00:44:06.91\00:44:09.04 God could have it anytime 00:44:09.08\00:44:10.75 He say, I will destroy these people again with a flood 00:44:10.78\00:44:13.78 because they just don't seem to get it. 00:44:13.82\00:44:16.69 But God in His mercy is waiting at the door of your heart. 00:44:16.72\00:44:21.26 And He's saying, behold, I stand at the door and knock. 00:44:21.29\00:44:24.33 If any man hears My voice and opens the door, 00:44:24.36\00:44:26.33 I will come into him and sup with him and he with Me. 00:44:26.36\00:44:28.96 So I want to encourage you to consider the rainbow, 00:44:29.00\00:44:32.80 the everlasting, the sign of God's everlasting covenant 00:44:32.83\00:44:36.27 with this world 00:44:36.30\00:44:37.94 that He will not destroy this world with a flood. 00:44:37.97\00:44:40.74 And I am going to read something to you that is in 00:44:40.78\00:44:42.71 Friday's portion of the lesson, 00:44:42.74\00:44:45.01 from the story of Redemption, 00:44:45.05\00:44:47.12 page 71, this symbol, 00:44:47.15\00:44:50.49 the rainbow in the clouds is to confirm the belief of all 00:44:50.52\00:44:56.46 and establish their confidence in God, 00:44:56.49\00:44:59.89 for it is a token of divine mercy 00:44:59.93\00:45:03.23 and goodness to man 00:45:03.26\00:45:04.77 that although God has been provoked 00:45:04.80\00:45:07.84 to destroy the earth by the flood, 00:45:07.87\00:45:10.24 yet His mercy still encompass it the earth. 00:45:10.27\00:45:15.28 God's mercy is still available 00:45:15.31\00:45:18.25 to each and every one of us. 00:45:18.28\00:45:19.65 And I want to encourage you 00:45:19.68\00:45:21.02 to consider how good God has been to me. 00:45:21.05\00:45:24.82 And I marvel that it is because of His mercy, 00:45:24.85\00:45:28.96 that we have not been consumed. 00:45:28.99\00:45:30.59 Blessed be the name of the Lord. 00:45:30.63\00:45:32.66 Amen. Thank you, Pastor Johnny. 00:45:32.69\00:45:34.66 I like having Thursday lesson, 00:45:34.70\00:45:36.10 because I get to hear from everyone, 00:45:36.13\00:45:37.70 what we've been having church. 00:45:37.73\00:45:39.07 What a powerful study. 00:45:39.10\00:45:40.44 I have Thursday's lesson "Only Noah Was Left." 00:45:40.47\00:45:44.74 The opening scripture is Genesis 7. 00:45:44.77\00:45:47.08 So turn back to the Book of Genesis. 00:45:47.11\00:45:48.88 Genesis 7, of course, 00:45:48.91\00:45:50.25 we see that story of the great flood. 00:45:50.28\00:45:53.01 We know Noah and his family were obedient 00:45:53.05\00:45:56.22 and went into the ark when God said, come. 00:45:56.25\00:45:59.42 And then we see the flood take place in verse 23. 00:45:59.45\00:46:02.49 We're in Genesis 7:23. 00:46:02.52\00:46:04.49 So, he, that would be God, destroyed all living things 00:46:04.53\00:46:07.93 which run on the face of the ground, 00:46:07.96\00:46:09.60 both men and cattle, 00:46:09.63\00:46:11.00 creeping thing, and bird of the air. 00:46:11.03\00:46:13.34 They were destroyed from the earth. 00:46:13.37\00:46:15.17 Only Noah and those who were with him 00:46:15.20\00:46:17.81 in the ark remained alive." 00:46:17.84\00:46:21.24 This is the first time the concept of remnant 00:46:21.28\00:46:27.02 is introduced in the Word of God. 00:46:27.05\00:46:29.92 Remnant, that word remained alive comes from Hebrew. 00:46:29.95\00:46:34.96 It means to remain or be left over. 00:46:34.99\00:46:38.56 The word is she'-ar, 00:46:38.59\00:46:40.30 so we're going to hear this a lot. 00:46:40.33\00:46:41.66 So keep track of that word she'-ar. 00:46:41.70\00:46:43.67 It just means to remain or be left over. 00:46:43.70\00:46:46.17 Of course, the remnant would be 00:46:46.20\00:46:47.67 a small part that's remaining, a member or a trace 00:46:47.70\00:46:50.94 that's what the dictionary says 00:46:50.97\00:46:52.31 that is still remaining after an event. 00:46:52.34\00:46:55.11 It's even a piece of fabric, you know, 00:46:55.14\00:46:56.71 left on the bolt of the fabric at the very end, 00:46:56.75\00:46:59.61 that is that's unused. 00:46:59.65\00:47:01.52 That would be the remnant. 00:47:01.55\00:47:03.92 The remnant motif in scripture 00:47:03.95\00:47:05.89 reaches all the way from Genesis to Revelation. 00:47:05.92\00:47:09.42 It is found in every Old Testament book 00:47:09.46\00:47:13.09 and is used more than 00:47:13.13\00:47:14.46 540 times in the Old Testament alone, 00:47:14.50\00:47:17.67 the word remnant. 00:47:17.70\00:47:19.40 We see, of course, historical remnant. 00:47:19.43\00:47:21.77 This would be like those who were saved 00:47:21.80\00:47:23.71 from the flood, the remnant. 00:47:23.74\00:47:25.77 This would be those who made it 00:47:25.81\00:47:27.71 through the Babylonian captivity 00:47:27.74\00:47:29.78 and returned to Jerusalem. 00:47:29.81\00:47:32.21 That would be a remnant. 00:47:32.25\00:47:33.58 We also see a faithful remnant. 00:47:33.62\00:47:35.18 Those who like in Elijah's time 00:47:35.22\00:47:37.59 did not bow down the knee to Baal, 00:47:37.62\00:47:41.19 and they chose to honor God 00:47:41.22\00:47:43.16 and His covenant in the midst of prevailing apostasy. 00:47:43.19\00:47:47.33 And we see an ended time remnant 00:47:47.36\00:47:51.27 in the end of time, 00:47:51.30\00:47:52.63 those who keep the commandments of God 00:47:52.67\00:47:55.07 and the testimony of Jesus Christ, 00:47:55.10\00:47:57.67 who will be alive at the closing moments, 00:47:57.71\00:48:00.21 in the closing moments of earth's history. 00:48:00.24\00:48:02.71 So I want to talk to you today. 00:48:02.74\00:48:04.21 Here's the list of 12, 00:48:04.25\00:48:05.78 12 characteristics of a biblical remnant, 00:48:05.81\00:48:09.45 12 characteristics of a biblical remnant. 00:48:09.48\00:48:11.95 Now there's probably more, 00:48:11.99\00:48:13.32 but we're just going to do 12 today. 00:48:13.36\00:48:15.22 Characteristic number one, the remnant is delivered. 00:48:15.26\00:48:19.93 They are delivered from impending death 00:48:19.96\00:48:22.56 or destruction or in Noah's case, 00:48:22.60\00:48:24.47 a storm delivered from that storm, 00:48:24.50\00:48:27.84 from that death. 00:48:27.87\00:48:29.30 I think of Joseph and his brothers. 00:48:29.34\00:48:30.77 This would be Genesis 45:7. 00:48:30.81\00:48:34.68 Joseph is speaking to his brothers. 00:48:34.71\00:48:36.71 In Genesis 45:7, and he says, 00:48:36.75\00:48:39.25 "God sent me before you 00:48:39.28\00:48:41.12 to preserve posterity for you in the earth." 00:48:41.15\00:48:45.25 That word posterity comes from she'-ar, that word remnant, 00:48:45.29\00:48:50.13 residue, remainder. 00:48:50.16\00:48:51.93 God sent Joseph before to preserve 00:48:51.96\00:48:54.43 this remnant in the earth 00:48:54.46\00:48:56.63 and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 00:48:56.67\00:48:58.97 So characteristic number one, the remnant is delivered. 00:48:59.00\00:49:03.00 Number two, the remnant returns to God. 00:49:03.04\00:49:07.64 Isaiah 10:21, 00:49:07.68\00:49:10.61 "The remnant will return, 00:49:10.65\00:49:12.65 the remnant of Jacob to the mighty God." 00:49:12.68\00:49:16.18 The remnant returns to God. 00:49:16.22\00:49:19.25 Do you want to be part of the biblical remnant? 00:49:19.29\00:49:21.86 Know that God will deliver you. 00:49:21.89\00:49:24.63 Know that if you are part of the biblical remnant, 00:49:24.66\00:49:27.56 we will turn with our whole heart 00:49:27.60\00:49:29.83 and life to God. 00:49:29.86\00:49:31.73 Characteristic number three, the remnant will be gathered. 00:49:31.77\00:49:35.94 Isaiah 11:11-12. 00:49:35.97\00:49:39.21 Just jump over one chapter, Isaiah 11:11-12. 00:49:39.24\00:49:42.64 "And it shall come to pass in that day 00:49:42.68\00:49:44.21 that the Lord shall set His hand 00:49:44.25\00:49:45.98 again the second time 00:49:46.01\00:49:49.18 to recover the remnant of His people who are left." 00:49:49.22\00:49:52.45 I think in the first Exodus from Egypt and God delivered 00:49:52.49\00:49:55.49 His people and brought them out of bondage. 00:49:55.52\00:49:58.16 I think of the second Exodus 00:49:58.19\00:49:59.79 from Babylonian captivity and God delivered His people. 00:49:59.83\00:50:04.27 Again, that word again is from she'-ar, 00:50:04.30\00:50:07.80 the rest, residue, or remnant. 00:50:07.84\00:50:10.24 Characteristic number four, 00:50:10.27\00:50:11.87 the remnant rejoice in the Lord, their God. 00:50:11.91\00:50:15.91 I like this one, Isaiah 28:5, 00:50:15.94\00:50:20.05 "In that day, the Lord of hosts 00:50:20.08\00:50:21.68 will be for a crown of glory 00:50:21.72\00:50:24.52 and a diadem of beauty to the remnant of His people." 00:50:24.55\00:50:29.56 Did you catch that? 00:50:29.59\00:50:30.93 God's people, 00:50:30.96\00:50:32.29 His remnant will rejoice in God. 00:50:32.33\00:50:34.90 He will be a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty to them. 00:50:34.93\00:50:39.93 Characteristic number five, 00:50:39.97\00:50:41.87 the remnant rely only upon God. 00:50:41.90\00:50:46.51 Isaiah 10:20. 00:50:46.54\00:50:48.48 You see, we see a lot of the remnant motif 00:50:48.51\00:50:50.95 found in the Book of Isaiah. 00:50:50.98\00:50:53.18 Isaiah 10:20, 00:50:53.21\00:50:54.98 "And it shall come to pass in that day 00:50:55.02\00:50:56.95 that the remnant of Israel 00:50:56.99\00:50:58.99 and such as have escaped the house of Jacob 00:50:59.02\00:51:02.56 will never again depend on him who defeated them, 00:51:02.59\00:51:07.63 but will depend on the Lord, 00:51:07.66\00:51:09.56 the Holy One of Israel in truth." 00:51:09.60\00:51:12.77 So many times we depend on people. 00:51:12.80\00:51:15.40 We depend on false systems of worship. 00:51:15.44\00:51:18.97 Maybe you've depended on a fault system of worship 00:51:19.01\00:51:21.34 or you've depended on people, 00:51:21.38\00:51:23.21 or you've depended on shepherds, 00:51:23.24\00:51:25.28 who you thought were leading you into truth. 00:51:25.31\00:51:28.78 In that day, the remnant will never again 00:51:28.82\00:51:31.69 depend on him who defeated them. 00:51:31.72\00:51:34.52 Only they would depend on the Lord, 00:51:34.56\00:51:37.66 the Holy One of Israel. 00:51:37.69\00:51:40.23 The remnant relies only upon God. 00:51:40.26\00:51:44.07 Characteristic number six, the remnant will bear fruit. 00:51:44.10\00:51:48.64 Isaiah 37:31, "And the remnant 00:51:48.67\00:51:53.34 who have escaped the house of Judah 00:51:53.38\00:51:56.31 shall again take root downward 00:51:56.34\00:51:58.85 and shall bear fruit upward." 00:51:58.88\00:52:01.15 I find it interesting that the taking root downward 00:52:01.18\00:52:03.79 has to happen 00:52:03.82\00:52:05.15 before the bearing fruit upward takes place. 00:52:05.19\00:52:08.92 Meaning they need to be connected 00:52:08.96\00:52:11.19 with the vine, with Jesus. 00:52:11.23\00:52:13.16 As we discussed on a previous lesson, 00:52:13.19\00:52:15.03 I think it was last week Pastor John mentioned that, 00:52:15.06\00:52:17.37 being connected with a vine. 00:52:17.40\00:52:19.93 And then if you are connected, 00:52:19.97\00:52:21.87 you can bear fruit for His glory. 00:52:21.90\00:52:25.47 The remnant will bear fruit. 00:52:25.51\00:52:28.41 Characteristic number seven, the remnant is holy. 00:52:28.44\00:52:33.65 Isaiah 4:3, 00:52:33.68\00:52:35.82 "And it should come to pass that 00:52:35.85\00:52:37.19 he who is left in Zion. 00:52:37.22\00:52:39.05 That word who is left is that word she'-ar, 00:52:39.09\00:52:41.82 again, meaning to remain or be left over. 00:52:41.86\00:52:45.99 He who is left in Zion 00:52:46.03\00:52:47.46 and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy. 00:52:47.50\00:52:51.07 Everyone who has recorded among the living in Jerusalem, 00:52:51.10\00:52:55.30 the remnant are holy. 00:52:55.34\00:52:58.44 Not only that, the remnant, 00:52:58.47\00:53:00.38 this is characteristic number eight, 00:53:00.41\00:53:02.18 the remnant walk in obedience 00:53:02.21\00:53:05.11 to all of God's commandments. 00:53:05.15\00:53:07.78 Now we go to a New Testament word for remnant. 00:53:07.82\00:53:10.29 We're going to Revelation 12:17. 00:53:10.32\00:53:13.89 Revelation 12:17, 00:53:13.92\00:53:15.89 "And the dragon or Satan was enraged 00:53:15.92\00:53:19.16 and angry with the woman," 00:53:19.19\00:53:21.03 meaning the church, "and went to make war 00:53:21.06\00:53:23.77 with the rest of her offspring." 00:53:23.80\00:53:25.73 That word in Greek rest is that word for remnant. 00:53:25.77\00:53:29.44 King James says, the remnant of her seed 00:53:29.47\00:53:33.01 who keep the commandments of God 00:53:33.04\00:53:34.68 and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. 00:53:34.71\00:53:37.55 The remnant walks in obedience to God's commandments, 00:53:37.58\00:53:40.45 not one or two or three 00:53:40.48\00:53:41.98 or the ones that they think they should follow. 00:53:42.02\00:53:44.22 But the remnant walks in obedience 00:53:44.25\00:53:45.79 to all of God's commandments. 00:53:45.82\00:53:48.32 Characteristic number nine, 00:53:48.36\00:53:50.29 the remnant is fought against by Satan. 00:53:50.33\00:53:53.29 There is a battle. 00:53:53.33\00:53:54.70 And if you are a part of the remnant, 00:53:54.73\00:53:56.06 you're going to feel it 00:53:56.10\00:53:57.43 because Satan will fight against you. 00:53:57.47\00:53:59.70 The dragon was enraged with a woman 00:53:59.73\00:54:02.00 and went to make war with the remnant of her seed. 00:54:02.04\00:54:04.64 Characteristic number 10, the remnant need prayer. 00:54:04.67\00:54:09.61 Isaiah 37:4. 00:54:09.64\00:54:11.71 Now this is Hezekiah. He's the King. 00:54:11.75\00:54:14.58 And right now Jerusalem has a siege against it, 00:54:14.62\00:54:18.49 and they're in terror 00:54:18.52\00:54:20.36 and Hezekiah appeals to Isaiah the prophet. 00:54:20.39\00:54:22.89 And he says, "It may be that 00:54:22.92\00:54:24.93 the Lord your God will hear the words 00:54:24.96\00:54:27.23 of the Rabshakeh, 00:54:27.26\00:54:28.60 whom his master the king of Assyria 00:54:28.63\00:54:30.07 has sent to reproach the living God, 00:54:30.10\00:54:32.10 and will rebuke the words 00:54:32.13\00:54:33.77 which the Lord your God has heard. 00:54:33.80\00:54:36.07 Therefore lift up your prayer 00:54:36.10\00:54:38.81 for the remnant that are left.'" 00:54:38.84\00:54:42.24 The remnant needs prayer. 00:54:42.28\00:54:43.71 Number 11, the remnant is never alone. 00:54:43.75\00:54:47.85 Romans 11:3-4, now, this is Paul, 00:54:47.88\00:54:50.69 but he's quoting from the Old Testament. 00:54:50.72\00:54:52.35 And from this whole concept of Elijah. 00:54:52.39\00:54:55.56 Elijah says, "Lord, 00:54:55.59\00:54:56.93 they have killed your prophets and tore down your altars. 00:54:56.96\00:54:59.56 I alone am left." 00:54:59.59\00:55:01.56 That word she'-ar meaning remnant, 00:55:01.60\00:55:05.17 but what does the divine response say to him? 00:55:05.20\00:55:07.24 I've reserved for myself, 7,000 men 00:55:07.27\00:55:10.11 who have not bowed the knee to Baal. 00:55:10.14\00:55:11.67 And finally, number 12, the remnant are upheld 00:55:11.71\00:55:14.78 and carried by God Himself. 00:55:14.81\00:55:16.78 This one is my favorite. 00:55:16.81\00:55:18.35 Isaiah 46:3, "Listen to me O house of Jacob 00:55:18.38\00:55:22.02 and the remnant of the house of Israel 00:55:22.05\00:55:25.52 who have been carried by me from the womb. 00:55:25.55\00:55:28.79 Even to your old age, I am he, I will deliver you. 00:55:28.82\00:55:32.59 I have made, I will bear. 00:55:32.63\00:55:34.70 I will carry you." 00:55:34.73\00:55:36.43 Do you want to be carried by God Himself? 00:55:36.46\00:55:38.77 Be part of the remnant. Amen. 00:55:38.80\00:55:40.87 Thank you very much, Jill. 00:55:40.90\00:55:42.24 I think I'm going to carry on that thought 00:55:42.27\00:55:43.97 and I'll give you a chance to give you remnant thoughts. 00:55:44.01\00:55:47.58 Good one. 00:55:47.61\00:55:48.94 You know, Shelley and Jill both brought out words 00:55:48.98\00:55:51.35 that appear first in scripture, like covenant and... 00:55:51.38\00:55:55.02 Remnant. Yours was remnant, absolutely. 00:55:55.05\00:55:57.02 Well, Genesis 6:8 is the very first time 00:55:57.05\00:55:59.92 the word grace appears in Scripture. 00:55:59.95\00:56:02.16 And I just wanted to take this opportunity. 00:56:02.19\00:56:03.73 Just remind us that no matter how blameless 00:56:03.76\00:56:05.83 or righteous Noah was, he was also still a sinner, 00:56:05.86\00:56:09.06 we have to remember that 00:56:09.10\00:56:10.43 the fact that God showed him grace 00:56:10.47\00:56:12.80 says that he was a sinner in need of grace. 00:56:12.83\00:56:15.27 And that's no different than us today 00:56:15.30\00:56:16.91 that if we seek a righteous life in Christ, 00:56:16.94\00:56:19.44 then He will shone 00:56:19.47\00:56:20.81 or shine down His grace upon us. 00:56:20.84\00:56:22.78 Amen, and amen. 00:56:22.81\00:56:24.15 Some people think that 00:56:24.18\00:56:26.01 the Noahic Covenant is just a rainbow, 00:56:26.05\00:56:29.48 but we see in Genesis 6:18, that God says, 00:56:29.52\00:56:33.36 "I'm going to establish My covenant with you. 00:56:33.39\00:56:36.36 Get on the ark." 00:56:36.39\00:56:37.73 Not only was his family preserved by obeying 00:56:37.76\00:56:41.30 and getting on the ark, 00:56:41.33\00:56:42.73 but then they were given the provision 00:56:42.76\00:56:45.70 and the protection of a covenant relationship. 00:56:45.73\00:56:49.70 That's what God calls us to as well. 00:56:49.74\00:56:53.01 Amen. Amen. 00:56:53.04\00:56:54.84 I want to encourage you to consider God's rainbow 00:56:54.88\00:56:57.91 as His signature stating that He has mercy upon you. 00:56:57.95\00:57:02.98 And remember that the rainbow 00:57:03.02\00:57:04.82 round about the throne telling you, 00:57:04.85\00:57:07.06 I love you, come to me 00:57:07.09\00:57:08.66 and I will give you eternal life. 00:57:08.69\00:57:11.13 Do you feel that you are alone, 00:57:11.16\00:57:13.50 that there are 7,000 or a 100,000 people around 00:57:13.53\00:57:17.37 that don't follow God and don't walk with Him, 00:57:17.40\00:57:19.90 you are not alone, 00:57:19.93\00:57:21.94 you can be part of God's special remnant. 00:57:21.97\00:57:24.64 Yes. 00:57:24.67\00:57:26.01 And I'll tell you what a lesson study. 00:57:26.04\00:57:27.38 We were talking about, 00:57:27.41\00:57:28.74 how God remedies the issues for all future generations. 00:57:28.78\00:57:34.45 I want this thought to remain with you, 00:57:34.48\00:57:36.58 Romans 5:20, because mine was about sin, 00:57:36.62\00:57:40.09 and the Apostle Paul makes it so wonderfully clear, 00:57:40.12\00:57:43.39 moreover the law entered that 00:57:43.43\00:57:45.93 the offense might have bound, 00:57:45.96\00:57:47.36 but where sin abounded, grace abounded much more. 00:57:47.40\00:57:52.07 Thank you so much for joining us. 00:57:52.10\00:57:53.84 The future generations are secure, 00:57:53.87\00:57:55.54 but join us for a future lesson entitled, 00:57:55.57\00:57:58.07 "An Everlasting Covenant." 00:57:58.11\00:58:00.04 May God bless you until we see you again. 00:58:00.08\00:58:02.88
