When we look at

What's it mean
to bind or obligate?

In the Greek,

words for covenant,

just have a different prefix.

There's syntheke and diatheke.

Syntheke is a contract.

Syntheke is when two parties
make terms they come together,

and it's a contract.

Syntheke is never
used of God's covenants,

only a covenant of man with man.

Diatheke is the Greek
word for will, for testament,

Every reference
to God's covenant

And the reason we know
that to me this is exciting,

the Septuagint

So it shows us that
God's covenant are a will.

Now interestingly,

God made two types of covenants.

There's an obligatory covenant,

that means it's a covenant

where God makes
all the promises.

And it is based,

it's very similar to
the Suzerain Vassal treaties

where a sovereign
nation would come in,

in an effort to demonstrate

that they were
merciful in giving.

When they took
over another nation,

they would grant favor

to the
subordinate vassal nation.

But that's the vassal
was to obey the stipulations

of this treaty,

And so God designed it

be part of My will,

a co-inheritor
with Jesus Christ,

what you've got to do

is walk according
to these stipulations."

God wanted an
intimate relationship

with humanity.

But He wanted a relationship

that was based on
reciprocal, loyal love.

One element I love
about God's covenant

covenants are a relationship.

Now the second element
of a covenant is obligation,

obedience to God's will,

His moral law of love,

the Ten Commandments.

at that old covenant

Humanity enters

We've got to be willing to have

He made man on the earth.

destroy men on the earth.

But when you get to
that verse, it says,

"But Noah found grace
in the eyes of the Lord."

And now let me read verse 9.

And this is the
genealogy of Noah.

"Noah was a just man,
perfect in his generation,

Noah walked with God."

You see, God
saw the whole earth,

everybody was corrupt.

And this is a
horrible picture of people that

God is able to
look inside the heart,

and see that even the
very thoughts are evil.

The condition is such that
there appears to be no hope.

But interestingly enough,

God chose Noah to
do a work of mercy.

God's grace was still extended,

His hand was still extended
to people, repent, repent.

And Noah was selected
to preach for 120 years.

So God tells Noah

that He has to destroy
the people of the earth.

and escape the destruction
that is coming upon the world.

we're going to
face similar situations

to the days of Noah.

They were marrying,

and giving in
marriage and drinking.

And this is, we're
seeing this in today's time.

And so just like Noah, we
have to preach the gospel.

Noah preached the
gospel of righteousness,
00:18:58.23\00:19:00.47
the gospel of God
to people 120 years.
00:19:00.50\00:19:04.74
And unfortunately,
only his family was saved,

only eight people.

Let's look after the
flood, God protected them.

And I see
something interesting here,

because it's like
God is starting over.

God calls upon us.

It is not that once you
enter into the Christian life,

faithful for a moment,

day you go to church.

God wants us to be faithful

and he was saved into the ark.

bring a beacon of light

into this dark world, right?

He needs someone
that can represent Him,

speak on His behalf

that He can use to turn
the world right side up.

So basically, the
city that would become,

you know, Babel or
Babel became Babylon.

This is where he was dwelling.

And God says, kind of like that,

that fourth angel
from Revelation 18,

get out of there,
come out of there, My son,

come out of her, My people.

It's a painful thing.

to cause us to be unfruitful,

The only way that fruit
can be produced in our lives

cannot operate in our lives

when we choose to be
independent of His Son.

The covenant does not
just include the Father,
