Praise the Lord. 00:02:08.96\00:02:10.33 And, of course, Pastor John Lomacang. 00:02:10.36\00:02:11.69 Yes. 00:02:11.73\00:02:13.06 And I'm just joyful that I have Isaiah 61, 00:02:13.09\00:02:15.40 one of my most favorite passages 00:02:15.43\00:02:17.93 in the Book of Isaiah. 00:02:17.97\00:02:19.30 All right, praise the Lord. Got a nice little thing. 00:02:19.33\00:02:21.10 You must have your favorite passage too, Shelley. 00:02:21.14\00:02:23.44 Well, mine's the Day of Vengeance. 00:02:23.47\00:02:25.77 But you know what it's gonna be fun to explain. 00:02:25.81\00:02:31.45 All right, I got you on that one. 00:02:31.48\00:02:33.18 Praise the Lord. Well, we have lots to discuss. 00:02:33.21\00:02:37.52 So I'm gonna go ahead and ask Brother Dinzey, 00:02:37.55\00:02:40.16 if you don't mind to have an opening prayer for us. 00:02:40.19\00:02:41.99 And we'll get right into the study. 00:02:42.02\00:02:43.43 Well, let's pray together. 00:02:43.46\00:02:46.46 Our loving Heavenly Father, 00:02:46.49\00:02:47.83 we come before You in Jesus' name. 00:02:47.86\00:02:50.80 We ask You, Lord, to bless us 00:02:50.83\00:02:52.17 with the Holy Spirit that the words 00:02:52.20\00:02:54.64 that come from our lips 00:02:54.67\00:02:56.00 will be from Your throne of grace. 00:02:56.04\00:02:58.14 And Heavenly Father, we pray for Your Holy Spirit 00:02:58.17\00:02:59.97 to impress upon Your children, 00:03:00.01\00:03:02.14 the message that You have for them. 00:03:02.18\00:03:04.48 Each one has a different need, 00:03:04.51\00:03:07.22 perhaps some are needing answers 00:03:07.25\00:03:09.65 to the problems they are facing 00:03:09.68\00:03:11.09 so we pray that You will use us 00:03:11.12\00:03:12.45 according to Your good pleasure. 00:03:12.49\00:03:14.99 We pray that all honor and glory be unto Your name. 00:03:15.02\00:03:17.63 We ask in Jesus' name, amen. Amen. 00:03:17.66\00:03:20.56 Praise the Lord. Thank you so much, brother. 00:03:20.60\00:03:23.80 The Desire of Nations, our memory text this week 00:03:23.83\00:03:27.87 comes from Isaiah Chapter 60, 00:03:27.90\00:03:30.04 which is what Jill's gonna be covering, 00:03:30.07\00:03:32.51 verse 3 and the Bible says, 00:03:32.54\00:03:34.74 "The Gentiles shall come to your light, 00:03:34.78\00:03:38.15 and kings to the brightness of your rising." 00:03:38.18\00:03:41.48 We all have a light. 00:03:41.52\00:03:42.95 We all have a light that God wants us 00:03:42.98\00:03:44.35 to shine before others. 00:03:44.39\00:03:45.72 And, of course, 00:03:45.75\00:03:47.09 it's not a light that we create. 00:03:47.12\00:03:48.46 It's a light that Jesus provides through us. 00:03:48.49\00:03:50.99 It's we're simply reflecting the light of Jesus Christ. 00:03:51.03\00:03:53.53 And that's simply 00:03:53.56\00:03:54.90 what this lesson this week is all about. 00:03:54.93\00:03:57.27 And my actually Sabbath afternoons lesson 00:03:57.30\00:03:59.63 starts with a quote from Ellen White's 00:03:59.67\00:04:03.87 Faith and Works, page 36. 00:04:03.91\00:04:06.17 And I thought this was a phenomenal quote, 00:04:06.21\00:04:08.21 I just want to read through, it's a little lengthy, 00:04:08.24\00:04:09.64 but it really sets the tone 00:04:09.68\00:04:11.01 for what we're studying this week. 00:04:11.05\00:04:13.75 It says, "We must learn in the school of Christ. 00:04:13.78\00:04:18.69 Nothing but His righteousness can entitle us 00:04:18.72\00:04:22.32 to one of the blessings of the covenant of grace. 00:04:22.36\00:04:26.36 We have long desired 00:04:26.39\00:04:27.86 and tried to obtain these blessings, 00:04:27.90\00:04:30.73 but have not received them 00:04:30.77\00:04:32.10 because we have cherished the idea 00:04:32.13\00:04:34.57 that we could do something 00:04:34.60\00:04:36.04 to make ourselves worthy of them. 00:04:36.07\00:04:39.74 We have not looked away from ourselves, 00:04:39.77\00:04:42.38 believing that Jesus is a living Savior. 00:04:42.41\00:04:46.65 We must not think that 00:04:46.68\00:04:48.02 our own grace and merits will save us. 00:04:48.05\00:04:53.82 The grace of Christ is our only hope of salvation. 00:04:53.86\00:04:58.39 Through His prophet the Lord promises." 00:04:58.43\00:05:00.83 She quotes Isaiah 55:7. 00:05:00.86\00:05:04.27 She says, "Through His prophet the Lord promises, 00:05:04.30\00:05:06.47 'Let the wicked forsake his way, 00:05:06.50\00:05:09.07 and the unrighteous man his thoughts, 00:05:09.10\00:05:11.87 let him return to the Lord, 00:05:11.91\00:05:13.24 and He will have mercy upon him, 00:05:13.27\00:05:15.38 and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.' 00:05:15.41\00:05:20.35 We must believe the naked promise, 00:05:20.38\00:05:24.32 and not accept feeling for faith. 00:05:24.35\00:05:27.82 We must trust God fully, 00:05:27.86\00:05:30.36 when we rely upon the merits of Jesus 00:05:30.39\00:05:32.39 as a sin-pardoning Savior, 00:05:32.43\00:05:35.73 we shall receive all the help that we can desire." 00:05:35.76\00:05:39.53 I love that. 00:05:39.57\00:05:40.90 I love that, that we need to bring ourselves 00:05:40.94\00:05:43.71 to a point where we understand that 00:05:43.74\00:05:45.37 the gospel is not about what we can do, 00:05:45.41\00:05:47.54 but what Christ has already done, 00:05:47.58\00:05:49.54 and what Christ will do through us, 00:05:49.58\00:05:51.18 if only we will simply allow ourselves to trust in Him 00:05:51.21\00:05:54.88 and exercise as the Bible says, 00:05:54.92\00:05:56.48 the faith of Jesus Christ that is so beautiful. 00:05:56.52\00:06:00.16 And, you know, kind of contrary to that, 00:06:00.19\00:06:03.29 we, it sets us up somewhat of a theme 00:06:03.32\00:06:05.53 for Sunday's lesson, 00:06:05.56\00:06:07.10 which is entitled "The Effects of Sin." 00:06:07.13\00:06:09.93 You know, we live in a life today 00:06:09.96\00:06:11.30 where it seems like more and more, 00:06:11.33\00:06:13.13 we have lost sight 00:06:13.17\00:06:14.50 of the foundational righteousness 00:06:14.54\00:06:16.57 by faith message of the gospel, 00:06:16.60\00:06:18.34 which is that Christ did not come to save you 00:06:18.37\00:06:21.41 to continue to live in your sins, 00:06:21.44\00:06:23.08 but He come to save you from your sins 00:06:23.11\00:06:25.58 to give us complete victory over sin. 00:06:25.61\00:06:27.25 And we know that 00:06:27.28\00:06:28.62 sanctifying process of shaping us 00:06:28.65\00:06:30.89 and molding us into the character of Jesus, 00:06:30.92\00:06:32.52 that's a lifelong process, 00:06:32.55\00:06:34.19 and that each and every day that we get up 00:06:34.22\00:06:35.69 and we consecrate ourselves to the Lord, 00:06:35.72\00:06:37.83 the Lord is going to continue to lead and guide us 00:06:37.86\00:06:40.00 and to show us along the way, 00:06:40.03\00:06:41.36 what it is that He wants us to do 00:06:41.40\00:06:43.87 or not do in order to be 00:06:43.90\00:06:45.73 able to be molded into His like character, 00:06:45.77\00:06:49.67 but the effects of sin are strong. 00:06:49.70\00:06:52.21 And that's what Isaiah 59:1-2 highlight here. 00:06:52.24\00:06:56.95 So let's go there, Isaiah 59:1-2. 00:06:56.98\00:06:59.65 And the Bible says here, 00:06:59.68\00:07:01.35 "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, 00:07:01.38\00:07:05.25 that it cannot save, 00:07:05.29\00:07:07.22 nor his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. 00:07:07.26\00:07:11.76 But your iniquities have separated you 00:07:11.79\00:07:15.86 from your God, 00:07:15.90\00:07:17.47 and your sins have hidden His face from you, 00:07:17.50\00:07:21.50 so that He will not hear." 00:07:21.54\00:07:24.44 Now that's not that He will not hear 00:07:24.47\00:07:26.14 because He's saying, you know, I don't want to hear you, 00:07:26.17\00:07:28.44 He will not hear because you have chosen for Him 00:07:28.48\00:07:30.75 not to hear, 00:07:30.78\00:07:32.11 you have chosen to live a life of sin 00:07:32.15\00:07:34.58 over and over and over and over. 00:07:34.62\00:07:35.95 And that's what this passage is talking about. 00:07:35.98\00:07:38.79 When it's talks about the Lord, 00:07:38.82\00:07:40.32 you know, not listening or not hearing, 00:07:40.36\00:07:41.89 it's because you have come to a place 00:07:41.92\00:07:43.66 where you have completely pushed Him away, 00:07:43.69\00:07:46.13 and you no longer want 00:07:46.16\00:07:47.63 the Lord's grace upon your life. 00:07:47.66\00:07:49.30 And that's a very dangerous place 00:07:49.33\00:07:50.67 to be in. 00:07:50.70\00:07:52.03 Isaiah 59 is one of those kind of, 00:07:52.07\00:07:53.87 it's one of those texts that's really eye-opening, 00:07:53.90\00:07:56.30 it really grabs you because when you think 00:07:56.34\00:07:58.37 about being separated from God, 00:07:58.41\00:08:00.28 that's one of the most haunting experiences 00:08:00.31\00:08:01.94 that a person could ever find themselves in. 00:08:01.98\00:08:04.91 And the lesson brings this out, 00:08:04.95\00:08:06.28 and I love this point here it says, 00:08:06.31\00:08:07.65 "Sin can destroy our relationship with the Lord 00:08:07.68\00:08:10.39 and thus lead to our eternal ruin." 00:08:10.42\00:08:13.69 And that's true. 00:08:13.72\00:08:15.06 And he goes on to say, 00:08:15.09\00:08:16.42 "Not because sin drives God away from us, 00:08:16.46\00:08:20.13 but that it drives us away from God." 00:08:20.16\00:08:22.60 I like that. 00:08:22.63\00:08:24.07 Sin does not drive God away from us, 00:08:24.10\00:08:26.27 God doesn't abandon us, like, oh, you're a sinner, 00:08:26.30\00:08:28.97 you've done all these horrible sins, 00:08:29.00\00:08:30.34 you know, I'm going to run far away 00:08:30.37\00:08:31.71 in the opposite direction. 00:08:31.74\00:08:33.07 Good luck finding me. 00:08:33.11\00:08:34.44 That's not how it works. 00:08:34.48\00:08:35.81 But yet sin drives us away from God, 00:08:35.84\00:08:37.75 and God continues to seek us, He continues to seek us. 00:08:37.78\00:08:41.45 And there's times 00:08:41.48\00:08:42.82 when we are completely sold out to our sin, 00:08:42.85\00:08:45.42 we're completely slave to our sin 00:08:45.45\00:08:47.22 that God cannot hear because we won't allow Him 00:08:47.26\00:08:50.26 because we have chosen our master. 00:08:50.29\00:08:52.39 And, of course, the master of sin we know 00:08:52.43\00:08:54.43 is the enemy himself, the devil. 00:08:54.46\00:08:57.17 You know, that same point that 00:08:57.20\00:08:58.53 I just brought out that 00:08:58.57\00:08:59.90 it doesn't drive God away from us, 00:08:59.93\00:09:01.37 but yet sin drives us away from God. 00:09:01.40\00:09:03.41 We see evidence of this in Genesis Chapter 3, 00:09:03.44\00:09:06.11 where Adam and Eve, of course, had sinned, 00:09:06.14\00:09:08.18 and we don't see, you know, Adam and Eve, you know, 00:09:08.21\00:09:10.85 wandering around the garden going, 00:09:10.88\00:09:12.21 God, Lord, you know, where are you? 00:09:12.25\00:09:14.12 And He's ran away, 00:09:14.15\00:09:15.48 and I know we see right, the opposite. 00:09:15.52\00:09:16.85 Notice what Genesis 3:8 says. 00:09:16.89\00:09:19.02 It says, "And they heard the sound 00:09:19.05\00:09:20.46 of the Lord God walking in the garden 00:09:20.49\00:09:22.26 in the cool of the day, 00:09:22.29\00:09:23.63 and Adam and his wife hid themselves 00:09:23.66\00:09:25.69 from the presence of the Lord God 00:09:25.73\00:09:27.46 among the trees of the garden." 00:09:27.50\00:09:29.63 So what do we see here? 00:09:29.66\00:09:31.00 We see God is seeking, we see a seeking God, 00:09:31.03\00:09:34.54 we see that God knows that they have fallen into sin that 00:09:34.57\00:09:36.94 they have had this fallen experience. 00:09:36.97\00:09:39.17 And God goes after them, 00:09:39.21\00:09:40.74 kind of like the prodigal son 00:09:40.78\00:09:42.84 who's in the, he's off in the distance. 00:09:42.88\00:09:44.51 And what does the father do? 00:09:44.55\00:09:45.88 He doesn't sit there and wait, like, 00:09:45.91\00:09:47.25 oh, he got to come, you know, no, no, no, 00:09:47.28\00:09:48.62 he goes and he runs to him. 00:09:48.65\00:09:49.98 God is looking, 00:09:50.02\00:09:51.35 He's seeking to save Adam and Eve, 00:09:51.39\00:09:53.09 but yet they have hid themselves from God 00:09:53.12\00:09:55.42 because of the shame of their iniquity. 00:09:55.46\00:09:57.76 And so this lesson brings out that sin 00:09:57.79\00:10:00.26 has great effects on us, 00:10:00.30\00:10:02.13 detrimental deadly effects on us. 00:10:02.16\00:10:04.13 And I just want to highlight 00:10:04.17\00:10:05.50 in the remaining time that we have, 00:10:05.53\00:10:07.00 I'm gonna highlight Jill, I don't do this often, 00:10:07.04\00:10:10.21 seven ways sin affects us. 00:10:10.24\00:10:12.61 All right, so we're gonna look at 00:10:12.64\00:10:13.98 seven different ways that sin affects. 00:10:14.01\00:10:15.34 And, of course, 00:10:15.38\00:10:16.71 this list is not limited to just this list, 00:10:16.75\00:10:18.08 we can, I could have continued on, 00:10:18.11\00:10:19.45 but for the sake of time, 00:10:19.48\00:10:20.82 we're gonna highlight seven ways 00:10:20.85\00:10:22.18 that sin affects us in a negative way. 00:10:22.22\00:10:25.05 And then, of course, we're gonna provide 00:10:25.09\00:10:26.42 a wonderful promise in the end 00:10:26.45\00:10:27.79 that will kind of, you know, 00:10:27.82\00:10:29.59 reverse or somewhat provide 00:10:29.62\00:10:31.79 a hopeful looking forward to overcoming the sin 00:10:31.83\00:10:34.80 if we simply put our trust in the Lord. 00:10:34.83\00:10:36.67 So seven ways that sin affects us we're looking at... 00:10:36.70\00:10:38.77 Let's start with this. 00:10:38.80\00:10:40.14 Sin is the result of breaking heaven's governing law, okay? 00:10:40.17\00:10:43.54 When we sin, we're simply rebelling 00:10:43.57\00:10:45.41 against God's government. 00:10:45.44\00:10:46.78 And I don't know a single person. 00:10:46.81\00:10:48.54 I have never asked a person I said, 00:10:48.58\00:10:49.91 "Hey, do you want eternal life and do you want to live 00:10:49.94\00:10:51.95 with God forever and eternal pleasure 00:10:51.98\00:10:53.85 and bliss with the Lord forever and ever and ever?" 00:10:53.88\00:10:55.85 I've never met a person that's I know 00:10:55.88\00:10:57.22 that doesn't sound appealing. 00:10:57.25\00:10:58.59 I don't want any part of that. 00:10:58.62\00:10:59.95 I think we all desire 00:10:59.99\00:11:01.42 and want to be in a better place 00:11:01.46\00:11:02.79 where we can have eternal life. 00:11:02.82\00:11:04.33 But yet, in order to have eternal life, 00:11:04.36\00:11:06.13 we must be able to be governed by heaven's law. 00:11:06.16\00:11:09.33 In this case, we're talking about 00:11:09.36\00:11:10.70 the law of God. 00:11:10.73\00:11:12.07 And 1 John 3:4 makes it very clear that, 00:11:12.10\00:11:13.97 "Sin is the result of transgressing God's law." 00:11:14.00\00:11:16.81 4, it says, "Whosoever commits sin 00:11:16.84\00:11:18.64 transgresseth also the law: 00:11:18.67\00:11:20.61 for sin is the transgression of the law." 00:11:20.64\00:11:22.81 So in some way, form or fashion, 00:11:22.84\00:11:24.48 when we sin or continue to live in sin, 00:11:24.51\00:11:26.82 we are continuing to rebel against God's kingdom agenda. 00:11:26.85\00:11:30.09 We are rebelling against the government 00:11:30.12\00:11:31.89 of the Most High 00:11:31.92\00:11:33.36 and if we're ever gonna dwell there 00:11:33.39\00:11:34.76 and live there for eternal, you know, eternally, 00:11:34.79\00:11:37.89 we have to bring ourselves in subjection 00:11:37.93\00:11:40.40 and in harmony with God's will, His character, His law. 00:11:40.43\00:11:44.40 Number two, sin causes us to deny the guidance 00:11:44.43\00:11:48.10 of the Holy Spirit in our lives. 00:11:48.14\00:11:50.54 Matthew 12:31-32 says, "Therefore I say to you, 00:11:50.57\00:11:54.04 every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, 00:11:54.08\00:11:56.64 but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit 00:11:56.68\00:11:58.71 will not be forgiven men. 00:11:58.75\00:12:00.32 Anyone who speaks the word against Son of Man, 00:12:00.35\00:12:02.35 it will be forgiven him, but whoever 00:12:02.38\00:12:03.72 speaks against the Holy Spirit, 00:12:03.75\00:12:05.95 it will not be forgiving him, 00:12:05.99\00:12:07.32 neither in this age or in the age to come." 00:12:07.36\00:12:10.43 And, of course, Ephesians 4:30 00:12:10.46\00:12:12.49 as well as 1 Thessalonians 5:19 00:12:12.53\00:12:14.96 talks about how we should not grieve the Holy Spirit, 00:12:15.00\00:12:17.87 we should not quench the Holy Spirit. 00:12:17.90\00:12:19.57 You see, sin leads us to push away the life source of God. 00:12:19.60\00:12:23.61 It pushes away the source in which God allows us 00:12:23.64\00:12:26.21 to grow and to learn and be brought into harmony 00:12:26.24\00:12:28.71 with His will and with His truth. 00:12:28.74\00:12:30.51 And sin brings about an act 00:12:30.55\00:12:32.98 and existence in which we perpetually 00:12:33.01\00:12:35.22 and continually keep pushing away 00:12:35.25\00:12:37.45 that ultimate power source 00:12:37.49\00:12:39.95 that God provides for us to overcome. 00:12:39.99\00:12:43.06 Number three, sin causes us to fall 00:12:43.09\00:12:45.86 into a state of self-deception. 00:12:45.89\00:12:48.76 1 John 1:8. 00:12:48.80\00:12:50.93 "If we say that we have no sin, 00:12:50.97\00:12:52.97 we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." 00:12:53.00\00:12:57.34 You see, when we continue to live in sin, 00:12:57.37\00:12:59.11 we bring about a self-deceptive mentality 00:12:59.14\00:13:02.01 that says, "We don't need God, I can make this on my own." 00:13:02.04\00:13:04.85 And that's very, very dangerous. 00:13:04.88\00:13:06.58 Number four, sin leads us 00:13:06.61\00:13:07.95 to deny the sacrifice of Christ. 00:13:07.98\00:13:09.98 Hebrews 10:26 says, "For if we sin willfully 00:13:10.02\00:13:13.92 after we have received the knowledge of the truth, 00:13:13.96\00:13:15.86 there no longer remains a sacrifice for sin." 00:13:15.89\00:13:18.46 Why can there no longer remain a sacrifice for sin? 00:13:18.49\00:13:20.73 Because when you are living 00:13:20.76\00:13:22.10 in a perpetual state of ongoing sin, 00:13:22.13\00:13:24.33 you are recrucifying Christ over and over and over, 00:13:24.37\00:13:27.10 you're denying the fact that 00:13:27.14\00:13:28.87 He died once for all those sins, 00:13:28.90\00:13:30.81 you have made sin your master, 00:13:30.84\00:13:32.57 you're denying the sacrifice of Christ. 00:13:32.61\00:13:34.98 Number five, sin separates us 00:13:35.01\00:13:36.54 from our fellow man, 1 John 2:11. 00:13:36.58\00:13:39.71 "But he who hates his brother 00:13:39.75\00:13:41.08 is in darkness and walks in darkness, 00:13:41.12\00:13:42.82 and does not know whether he is going, 00:13:42.85\00:13:44.65 because the darkness has blinded his eyes." 00:13:44.69\00:13:48.92 Number six, sin separates us from God. 00:13:48.96\00:13:52.13 1 John 3:6, 00:13:52.16\00:13:53.50 "Whoever abides in Him does not sin. 00:13:53.53\00:13:56.06 Whoever sins has neither seen Him 00:13:56.10\00:13:58.53 nor known Him." 00:13:58.57\00:13:59.90 That's talking about an ongoing, 00:13:59.93\00:14:01.27 continual, perpetual, habitual state of sin. 00:14:01.30\00:14:05.01 You cannot, you're denying God when you live in that state. 00:14:05.04\00:14:08.21 And number seven, sin brings death, ultimately. 00:14:08.24\00:14:12.58 Romans 6:23, 00:14:12.61\00:14:13.98 "For the wages of sin is death." 00:14:14.02\00:14:17.19 And you can also go read James 1:14-15. 00:14:17.22\00:14:20.19 That when sin has... 00:14:20.22\00:14:21.56 When that temptation has been conceived, 00:14:21.59\00:14:23.96 and when sin is fully grown, it brings forth death. 00:14:23.99\00:14:27.03 There's good news in this though. 00:14:27.06\00:14:29.06 I love 1 John 1:9 because ultimately 00:14:29.10\00:14:32.30 what it says if you come to the realization 00:14:32.33\00:14:34.50 that you don't want to live in this sin, 00:14:34.54\00:14:36.14 that you don't want to be separated from the Lord, 00:14:36.17\00:14:38.51 that You don't want those negative effects of sin 00:14:38.54\00:14:39.87 on your life 00:14:39.91\00:14:41.24 when you come to the realization 00:14:41.28\00:14:42.61 that Jesus has overcome the world 00:14:42.64\00:14:43.98 and He has overcome the sin in your life. 00:14:44.01\00:14:45.45 Guess what? 00:14:45.48\00:14:46.82 You can go to Him as the Bible says, 00:14:46.85\00:14:48.18 "If we confess our sins, 00:14:48.22\00:14:49.55 He is faithful 00:14:49.58\00:14:50.92 and just to forgive us our sins, 00:14:50.95\00:14:53.02 and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 00:14:53.05\00:14:56.06 Amen. 00:14:56.09\00:14:57.69 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. 00:14:57.73\00:14:59.39 Well, we move on to Monday's lesson, 00:14:59.43\00:15:01.76 which is entitled, "Who Is Forgiven?" 00:15:01.80\00:15:05.20 Who Is Forgiven? 00:15:05.23\00:15:06.90 Now we move on in Isaiah Chapter 59. 00:15:06.94\00:15:10.47 The beginning of Isaiah Chapter 59 00:15:10.51\00:15:12.74 shows two different kinds of people, 00:15:12.77\00:15:16.44 the wicked and those that are righteous, 00:15:16.48\00:15:20.38 but when we get to verse 15, 00:15:20.42\00:15:23.55 you will notice a statement that the wicked have done 00:15:23.59\00:15:29.12 so wickedly that now 00:15:29.16\00:15:31.23 they are trying to hurt the righteous. 00:15:31.26\00:15:34.00 Isaiah 59:15 says, "So truth fails, 00:15:34.03\00:15:38.30 and he who departs from evil makes himself a pray. 00:15:38.33\00:15:43.37 Then the Lord saw it, 00:15:43.41\00:15:44.74 and it displeased Him that there was no justice." 00:15:44.77\00:15:48.61 So we see that the Lord 00:15:48.64\00:15:50.55 is looking at all times at the earth, 00:15:50.58\00:15:53.38 and His eyes are over the righteous, 00:15:53.42\00:15:55.82 but He also sees the wicked. 00:15:55.85\00:15:57.95 And, of course, He appeals to the wicked to repent 00:15:57.99\00:16:01.06 because it is the Lord's desire 00:16:01.09\00:16:03.73 that all should come to repentance, 00:16:03.76\00:16:06.63 but the wicked that refuse to come to repentance 00:16:06.66\00:16:09.50 will have to suffer for their deeds. 00:16:09.53\00:16:12.97 Now notice in Isaiah Chapter 59, 00:16:13.00\00:16:15.60 we're going to read verse 16 and 17. 00:16:15.64\00:16:18.77 "He saw that there was no man, 00:16:18.81\00:16:21.01 and wondered that there was no intercessor. 00:16:21.04\00:16:24.08 Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him. 00:16:24.11\00:16:27.68 And His own righteousness, it sustained Him." 00:16:27.72\00:16:31.79 Verse 17, "For He put 00:16:31.82\00:16:33.46 on righteousness as a breastplate, 00:16:33.49\00:16:36.19 and a helmet of salvation on His head." 00:16:36.22\00:16:39.26 This is the Lord. 00:16:39.29\00:16:40.63 He puts a helmet of salvation, 00:16:40.66\00:16:42.00 He's coming to the earth to deal 00:16:42.03\00:16:43.53 with the righteous and the wicked. 00:16:43.57\00:16:45.40 That's why he has the helmet of salvation on 00:16:45.43\00:16:47.87 but, "He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, 00:16:47.90\00:16:51.71 and was clad with zeal as a cloak." 00:16:51.74\00:16:54.08 God is coming to deal with the good and the evil. 00:16:54.11\00:16:59.38 You will see some of this in... 00:16:59.41\00:17:01.75 It reminds me I could say of Daniel 12:1, 00:17:01.78\00:17:05.82 take a look at that. 00:17:05.85\00:17:07.19 Daniel 12:1 says, 00:17:07.22\00:17:09.89 "At that time Michael shall stand up, 00:17:09.92\00:17:12.89 the great prince who stands 00:17:12.93\00:17:14.83 watch over the sons of your people, 00:17:14.86\00:17:16.93 and there shall be a time of trouble, 00:17:16.97\00:17:19.07 such as never was since there was a nation, 00:17:19.10\00:17:21.97 even to that time. 00:17:22.00\00:17:23.64 And at that time your people shall be delivered, 00:17:23.67\00:17:26.37 every one who is found written in the book." 00:17:26.41\00:17:29.98 And so God comes to deal 00:17:30.01\00:17:32.25 with the righteous and with the wicked. 00:17:32.28\00:17:35.08 When you get to Isaiah Chapter 16, 00:17:35.12\00:17:37.29 you're gonna see more of that later on, 00:17:37.32\00:17:38.95 you will see that there are the righteous, 00:17:38.99\00:17:41.52 but it says that 00:17:41.56\00:17:42.89 gross darkness cover the people, 00:17:42.92\00:17:44.53 but the righteous will shine. 00:17:44.56\00:17:46.93 You'll see, you'll hear more about that, 00:17:46.96\00:17:48.73 as you continue watching and listening to this program. 00:17:48.76\00:17:51.93 Isaiah 59:18-21. 00:17:51.97\00:17:54.10 We need to move through this quickly 00:17:54.14\00:17:55.47 because time seems to be flying. 00:17:55.50\00:17:57.17 Isaiah Chapter 59, notice, "According to their deeds, 00:17:57.21\00:18:01.21 accordingly He will repay, fury to His adversaries, 00:18:01.24\00:18:06.38 recompense to His enemies, 00:18:06.41\00:18:08.28 the coastlands He will fully repay. 00:18:08.32\00:18:10.85 So shall they fear 00:18:10.89\00:18:12.22 the name of the Lord from the west, 00:18:12.25\00:18:13.59 and His glory from the rising of the sun. 00:18:13.62\00:18:16.02 When the enemy comes in like a flood, 00:18:16.06\00:18:18.56 the Spirit of the Lord will lift up 00:18:18.59\00:18:20.66 a standard against him." 00:18:20.70\00:18:23.26 Now notice, "The Redeemer will come to Zion." 00:18:23.30\00:18:27.27 He is coming also to redeem. 00:18:27.30\00:18:29.80 "And to those who turn 00:18:29.84\00:18:31.17 from transgression in Jacob, says the Lord." 00:18:31.21\00:18:33.34 He's coming to deal 00:18:33.38\00:18:34.74 with the righteous and the wicked. 00:18:34.78\00:18:36.54 And "'As for Me,' says the Lord, 00:18:36.58\00:18:37.91 'this is My covenant with them, My spirit who is upon you, 00:18:37.95\00:18:41.68 and My words which I have put in your mouth, 00:18:41.72\00:18:44.59 shall not depart from your mouth, 00:18:44.62\00:18:46.65 nor from the mouth of your descendants, 00:18:46.69\00:18:48.69 nor from the mouth 00:18:48.72\00:18:50.06 of your descendants' descendants,' 00:18:50.09\00:18:51.43 says the Lord, 'from this time and forevermore.'" 00:18:51.46\00:18:53.66 So the time is coming, when the Lord will deal 00:18:53.70\00:18:57.13 with the righteous and the wicked. 00:18:57.17\00:18:59.03 He's coming with the helmet of salvation, 00:18:59.07\00:19:01.00 but He's also coming with the garments of vengeance. 00:19:01.04\00:19:04.61 On which side do you want to be? 00:19:04.64\00:19:06.64 Do you want the Lord to bring you the salvation 00:19:06.68\00:19:09.31 that He longs to give you? 00:19:09.34\00:19:10.68 Or do you want to be on the side of the wicked 00:19:10.71\00:19:12.78 that will suffer for their wickedness? 00:19:12.81\00:19:15.35 So the question is asked in the lesson, 00:19:15.38\00:19:17.32 who can be forgiven? 00:19:17.35\00:19:20.36 Let's go to Romans 3:23-24. 00:19:20.39\00:19:25.59 Notice, "For all have sinned 00:19:25.63\00:19:29.06 and fall short of the glory of God." 00:19:29.10\00:19:31.63 So what's the difference? 00:19:31.67\00:19:33.00 If all have sinned 00:19:33.03\00:19:34.37 and come short of the glory of God, 00:19:34.40\00:19:35.74 who can be forgiven? 00:19:35.77\00:19:37.11 Only those that desire forgiveness, 00:19:37.14\00:19:39.54 only those who seek that forgiveness 00:19:39.57\00:19:41.58 that God freely offers, just as you heard, 00:19:41.61\00:19:45.58 those that confess their sins, 00:19:45.61\00:19:46.95 God is faithful and just to forgive them 00:19:46.98\00:19:48.72 for their sins, 00:19:48.75\00:19:50.09 and to cleanse them from all unrighteousness. 00:19:50.12\00:19:51.72 Verse 24, "Being justified freely 00:19:51.75\00:19:56.36 by His grace through the redemption 00:19:56.39\00:19:59.43 that is in Christ Jesus." 00:19:59.46\00:20:01.33 This is only through Jesus Christ, 00:20:01.36\00:20:04.40 that we can have redemption and righteousness. 00:20:04.43\00:20:08.20 You've heard already what is sin? 00:20:08.24\00:20:10.21 Sin is the transgression of God's law. 00:20:10.24\00:20:13.64 Romans 6:23 brings out what happens 00:20:13.68\00:20:16.75 to those who do not ask for forgiveness, 00:20:16.78\00:20:20.68 who do not ask for Jesus to be their Savior. 00:20:20.72\00:20:23.75 Romans 6:23, 00:20:23.79\00:20:25.12 "For the wages of sin is death." 00:20:25.15\00:20:26.99 That's for the wicked, 00:20:27.02\00:20:28.36 but if you turn from your wickedness, 00:20:28.39\00:20:29.96 if you follow the Lord, 00:20:29.99\00:20:31.33 give your heart to the Lord, what happens? 00:20:31.36\00:20:33.43 But the gift of God 00:20:33.46\00:20:34.80 is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord. 00:20:34.83\00:20:40.54 This is freely offered to you. It's available today. 00:20:40.57\00:20:43.91 And I encourage you to take advantage of that 00:20:43.94\00:20:46.51 which God wants to give you. 00:20:46.54\00:20:48.04 That's why I turn now to Proverbs Chapter 28. 00:20:48.08\00:20:51.15 Proverbs 28:13 gives us this message, 00:20:51.18\00:20:56.95 "He who covers his sins shall not prosper, 00:20:56.99\00:21:01.92 but whoever confesses and follows 00:21:01.96\00:21:05.36 by forsaking them will have mercy." 00:21:05.39\00:21:09.46 So it's not only that God wants to forgive you, 00:21:09.50\00:21:12.80 He wants to give you 00:21:12.83\00:21:14.27 the capacity to forsake your sins, 00:21:14.30\00:21:16.54 and He will have mercy upon you. 00:21:16.57\00:21:20.14 And you're gonna hear 00:21:20.18\00:21:21.51 some good things as we continue. 00:21:21.54\00:21:24.21 Now when we go to Romans 3:20. 00:21:24.25\00:21:28.58 Romans 3:20, we need to make something perfectly clear. 00:21:28.62\00:21:32.22 And that is, 00:21:32.25\00:21:34.06 "Therefore by the deeds of the law 00:21:34.09\00:21:36.73 no flesh will be justified in His sight, 00:21:36.76\00:21:40.60 for by the law is the knowledge of sin." 00:21:40.63\00:21:44.23 And many people are trying by their own works, 00:21:44.27\00:21:48.90 trying to, "Oh, this is what's going 00:21:48.94\00:21:50.94 to bring me salvation." 00:21:50.97\00:21:52.41 I remember being in Mexico one time, 00:21:52.44\00:21:54.11 and they took us to this place 00:21:54.14\00:21:55.64 because every year, people come on a pilgrimage. 00:21:55.68\00:21:59.05 And they said, from this part right here, 00:21:59.08\00:22:03.05 people on their knees go all the way over there, 00:22:03.08\00:22:08.22 go up the stairs into that church 00:22:08.26\00:22:12.39 because they believe that these types of things, 00:22:12.43\00:22:15.53 gives them the ability to be forgiven, 00:22:15.56\00:22:19.37 they are atoning for their sins. 00:22:19.40\00:22:22.54 And God what He wants you to do is, 00:22:22.57\00:22:24.97 confess your sins and forsake your sins 00:22:25.01\00:22:27.64 and He will have mercy upon you. 00:22:27.68\00:22:29.71 Moving quickly. 00:22:29.74\00:22:31.71 Moving quickly, Isaiah 64:6. 00:22:31.75\00:22:35.32 Isaiah 64:6, 00:22:35.35\00:22:38.05 "But we are all like an unclean thing, 00:22:38.09\00:22:42.36 and all our righteousness are like filthy rags. 00:22:42.39\00:22:46.83 We all fade as a leaf, 00:22:46.86\00:22:48.30 and our iniquities, like the wind, 00:22:48.33\00:22:50.17 have taken us away." 00:22:50.20\00:22:52.13 So please understand that the very best 00:22:52.17\00:22:55.64 that you could possibly do 00:22:55.67\00:22:57.84 before the Lord are as filthy rags, 00:22:57.87\00:23:00.28 they will not count one iota towards salvation 00:23:00.31\00:23:04.18 or towards righteousness. 00:23:04.21\00:23:06.28 So what is it? 00:23:06.31\00:23:07.95 What is the hope? 00:23:07.98\00:23:09.32 Who can be forgiven? 00:23:09.35\00:23:11.32 Romans 8:1 00:23:11.35\00:23:15.06 brings a message to a question to a declaration 00:23:15.09\00:23:18.66 that Paul made in Romans 7:24. 00:23:18.69\00:23:23.23 Let me read Romans 7:24 first. 00:23:23.26\00:23:26.60 Paul says, "O wretched man that I am! 00:23:26.63\00:23:29.87 Who will deliver me from this body of death?" 00:23:29.90\00:23:33.21 The answer for Paul 00:23:33.24\00:23:35.01 and the answer for you and me is Romans 8:1. 00:23:35.04\00:23:39.25 "There is therefore now no condemnation 00:23:39.28\00:23:41.92 to those who are in Christ Jesus, 00:23:41.95\00:23:44.39 who do not walk according to the flesh, 00:23:44.42\00:23:47.62 but according to the Spirit." 00:23:47.66\00:23:49.82 Those that come to the Lord, 00:23:49.86\00:23:51.73 ask for forgiveness of their sins, 00:23:51.76\00:23:53.53 and forsake their sins 00:23:53.56\00:23:56.43 have to walk according to the Spirit. 00:23:56.46\00:23:59.03 And this brings you no condemnation. 00:23:59.07\00:24:02.54 This is why Jesus said, "If any man will come after Me, 00:24:02.57\00:24:05.17 let him take up his cross daily and follow Me." 00:24:05.21\00:24:08.28 This is a daily experience with the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:24:08.31\00:24:12.11 And you'll see evidence of God calling people to repentance. 00:24:12.15\00:24:15.98 You can go to Isaiah Chapter 1, God says, Come, verse 18, 00:24:16.02\00:24:19.95 "Come now, let us reason together." 00:24:19.99\00:24:22.02 If you go to Jude 1:24, there's only one chapter. 00:24:22.06\00:24:25.86 Let me read this one to wind up here 00:24:25.89\00:24:27.90 because time is gone. 00:24:27.93\00:24:30.00 "Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, 00:24:30.03\00:24:33.47 and to present you faultless 00:24:33.50\00:24:35.84 before the presence of His glory 00:24:35.87\00:24:37.47 with exceeding joy, to God our Savior." 00:24:37.51\00:24:40.81 Verse 25, "Who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, 00:24:40.84\00:24:44.45 dominion and power, both now and forever. 00:24:44.48\00:24:47.68 Amen." 00:24:47.72\00:24:49.05 So I encourage you, 00:24:49.08\00:24:50.82 give yourself to the Lord to Jesus Christ 00:24:50.85\00:24:53.19 because only in Him 00:24:53.22\00:24:55.16 you will find that righteousness 00:24:55.19\00:24:56.62 that we all need. 00:24:56.66\00:24:59.13 Praise the Lord. 00:24:59.16\00:25:00.50 Man, that was a powerful lesson, brother. 00:25:00.53\00:25:01.86 Thank you so much, a blessing. 00:25:01.90\00:25:03.87 We're gonna take a short break. 00:25:03.90\00:25:05.23 Don't go anywhere. 00:25:05.27\00:25:06.60 We'll be right back. 00:25:06.63\00:25:07.97 Ever wish you could watch 00:25:11.57\00:25:12.91 a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel again, 00:25:12.94\00:25:15.04 or share it on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter? Isaiah 59. 00:25:54.15\00:25:57.95 I have the first three verses of Isaiah Chapter 60. 00:25:57.99\00:26:01.56 And you see a shift in the mood from Isaiah 59 to Isaiah 60. 00:26:01.59\00:26:05.86 There is a progression as it were of thought. 00:26:05.89\00:26:08.76 Isaiah 59, we see the effects of sin 00:26:08.80\00:26:11.00 and that judgment, that separation from God. 00:26:11.03\00:26:13.87 We also see the salvation and forgiveness 00:26:13.90\00:26:16.94 that God extends to His people, 00:26:16.97\00:26:19.34 but when we get to Isaiah 60, they're ready to witness. 00:26:19.37\00:26:22.61 They're ready to stand up and shine. 00:26:22.64\00:26:25.71 So let's read our three verses, and then we'll unpack them. 00:26:25.75\00:26:29.22 Isaiah 60:1-3, 00:26:29.25\00:26:32.85 "Arise, shine, for your light is come! 00:26:32.89\00:26:37.63 And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. 00:26:37.66\00:26:41.20 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, 00:26:41.23\00:26:44.27 and deep darkness the people, 00:26:44.30\00:26:46.90 but the Lord will arise over you, 00:26:46.94\00:26:49.50 and His glory will be seen upon you. 00:26:49.54\00:26:53.94 The Gentiles shall come to your light, 00:26:53.98\00:26:56.28 and kings to the brightness of your rising." 00:26:56.31\00:27:00.45 So I have four questions for my lesson today. 00:27:00.48\00:27:02.92 The first one, Pastor John, is what? 00:27:02.95\00:27:05.22 What is the light? 00:27:05.25\00:27:06.72 And what is the darkness? 00:27:06.76\00:27:08.12 The second question is who? 00:27:08.16\00:27:09.99 Who is he speaking to? 00:27:10.03\00:27:11.99 Who is the you referred to in this passage? 00:27:12.03\00:27:14.93 Third question is why? 00:27:14.96\00:27:16.83 Why does it go to the Gentiles? 00:27:16.87\00:27:18.53 And the fourth is how? 00:27:18.57\00:27:20.57 How do we arise? 00:27:20.60\00:27:22.54 How do we share this light? 00:27:22.57\00:27:25.34 So what, who, why, and how. 00:27:25.37\00:27:29.08 What? What is the light? 00:27:29.11\00:27:30.51 What is the darkness? 00:27:30.55\00:27:31.88 It says "Arise, shine, for your light has come!" 00:27:31.91\00:27:34.15 What is that light? 00:27:34.18\00:27:36.15 The light is God's holiness. 00:27:36.18\00:27:38.92 Isaiah 62:1, "For Zion's sake 00:27:38.95\00:27:42.76 I will not hold My peace, 00:27:42.79\00:27:44.79 and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, 00:27:44.83\00:27:48.00 until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, 00:27:48.03\00:27:52.73 and her salvation as a lamp that burns." 00:27:52.77\00:27:55.94 Righteousness is connected to brightness. 00:27:55.97\00:27:59.04 Light has to be connected to righteousness and holiness. 00:27:59.07\00:28:02.58 Light is not just God's righteousness 00:28:02.61\00:28:04.88 or holiness. 00:28:04.91\00:28:06.25 It's also God's character. 00:28:06.28\00:28:08.75 We see that in Exodus 34 that glory is represented 00:28:08.78\00:28:14.06 as character in the Word of God. 00:28:14.09\00:28:16.32 Remember, Moses said he wanted to see God and he said, 00:28:16.36\00:28:19.03 "Please show me Your glory." 00:28:19.06\00:28:21.30 And God hid Moses in the cleft of the rock 00:28:21.33\00:28:24.10 and He allowed the back part to pass by. 00:28:24.13\00:28:27.00 And what did he say? 00:28:27.04\00:28:28.37 The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, 00:28:28.40\00:28:31.44 long suffering, His character, 00:28:31.47\00:28:34.84 glory is represented as His character. 00:28:34.88\00:28:38.91 Light also is God's presence. 00:28:38.95\00:28:42.48 Revelation 21:23, "The city had no need 00:28:42.52\00:28:46.89 of the sun or the moon to shine in it, 00:28:46.92\00:28:48.86 for the glory of God illuminated it. 00:28:48.89\00:28:51.89 The lamb is its light." 00:28:51.93\00:28:55.00 Light is synonymous with God's presence. 00:28:55.03\00:28:58.50 Isaiah 60:19, this is speaking of the New Jerusalem, 00:28:58.53\00:29:02.37 "The sun shall no longer be your light by day, 00:29:02.40\00:29:05.17 nor for brightness 00:29:05.21\00:29:06.54 shall the moon give light to you, 00:29:06.57\00:29:09.24 but the Lord will be to you an everlasting light, 00:29:09.28\00:29:13.15 and your God will be your glory." 00:29:13.18\00:29:16.38 Light equals God's holiness, light equals God's character, 00:29:16.42\00:29:20.66 light equals God's presence, light also equals the gospel. 00:29:20.69\00:29:25.56 2 Corinthians 4:6, 00:29:25.59\00:29:28.23 "For it is the God who commanded light 00:29:28.26\00:29:31.37 to shine out of darkness, 00:29:31.40\00:29:33.60 who has shown in our hearts to give the light 00:29:33.64\00:29:36.00 of the knowledge of the glory of God 00:29:36.04\00:29:38.24 in the face of Jesus Christ." 00:29:38.27\00:29:41.51 This is a dark world, a dark world of sin, 00:29:41.54\00:29:45.28 and God shines His light 00:29:45.31\00:29:47.28 not only the light of His character, 00:29:47.32\00:29:48.78 but the glorious light of His gospel into this world 00:29:48.82\00:29:53.39 into the dark world. 00:29:53.42\00:29:54.76 Isaiah 60:2 says what? 00:29:54.79\00:29:56.16 "For behold, darkness will cover the earth, 00:29:56.19\00:29:59.66 and deep darkness the people." 00:29:59.69\00:30:03.10 That deep darkness and the darkness of sin, 00:30:03.13\00:30:06.57 the darkness of not having a knowledge of God 00:30:06.60\00:30:10.54 or His character. 00:30:10.57\00:30:12.47 Isaiah 9. 00:30:12.51\00:30:13.84 This is a messianic prophecy going back 00:30:13.88\00:30:16.08 quite a few chapters from where we're at. 00:30:16.11\00:30:17.75 Isaiah 9:2, 00:30:17.78\00:30:19.38 "The people who walked in darkness," 00:30:19.41\00:30:21.08 that is spiritual darkness, "had seen a great light." 00:30:21.12\00:30:25.15 That's the Lord Jesus Christ, 00:30:25.19\00:30:27.16 "Those who dwelt 00:30:27.19\00:30:28.52 in the land of the shadow of death, 00:30:28.56\00:30:30.66 upon them the light has shined." 00:30:30.69\00:30:33.73 What about who? 00:30:33.76\00:30:35.10 Who is he speaking to? 00:30:35.13\00:30:37.43 He says, "Your light has come! 00:30:37.47\00:30:39.40 And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you." 00:30:39.43\00:30:41.97 Now, of course, Isaiah is writing right now 00:30:42.00\00:30:44.67 to the exiles in Babylon 00:30:44.71\00:30:46.04 looking forward to them being released and returned. 00:30:46.07\00:30:49.51 They would the children of Israel, 00:30:49.54\00:30:51.51 once again have that privilege 00:30:51.55\00:30:54.22 of representing Christ to the world. 00:30:54.25\00:30:58.02 That would be the literal fulfillment 00:30:58.05\00:31:00.06 at that time, 00:31:00.09\00:31:01.42 but there's also the fulfillment for you 00:31:01.46\00:31:04.09 and I looking down through the stream of time, 00:31:04.13\00:31:07.46 as the Church of God, as men and women 00:31:07.50\00:31:10.53 who have accepted Christ and claim the name Christian, 00:31:10.57\00:31:14.07 we are called to represent Christ to the world. 00:31:14.10\00:31:18.97 Why? 00:31:19.01\00:31:20.34 Why does the light go to the Gentiles? 00:31:20.38\00:31:22.54 Why is the gospel to be taken to the Gentiles? 00:31:22.58\00:31:26.05 'Cause it says the Gentiles would come to that light, 00:31:26.08\00:31:29.48 and kings to the brightness of that rising. 00:31:29.52\00:31:33.76 Now, of course, in that present day situation, 00:31:33.79\00:31:36.96 and then we'll look at the future application, 00:31:36.99\00:31:38.86 but the present day application, 00:31:38.89\00:31:40.66 the mission of the Jewish people 00:31:40.70\00:31:42.76 was what? 00:31:42.80\00:31:44.13 To share what they had been entrusted with 00:31:44.17\00:31:46.74 that glorious truth of the coming Messiah 00:31:46.77\00:31:49.87 and those truths that they held. 00:31:49.90\00:31:51.47 They were supposed to share that with the world. 00:31:51.51\00:31:54.88 When God called Abraham in Genesis 12, 00:31:54.91\00:31:57.45 and said, "I will make of you a great nation. 00:31:57.48\00:32:00.68 I will bless you and make your name great." 00:32:00.72\00:32:02.78 Was that just because Abraham's lineage 00:32:02.82\00:32:05.05 was supposed to be blessed 00:32:05.09\00:32:06.42 and they were supposed to hold what they had to themselves? 00:32:06.45\00:32:08.66 No, they were called. 00:32:08.69\00:32:10.46 It says in verse 3, Genesis 12:3, 00:32:10.49\00:32:13.80 "I will bless those who bless you, 00:32:13.83\00:32:15.76 and curse him who curses you, 00:32:15.80\00:32:17.43 and in you all the families 00:32:17.47\00:32:20.57 of the earth should be blessed." 00:32:20.60\00:32:23.30 God's purpose was to bless the entire world, 00:32:23.34\00:32:27.01 through His covenant 00:32:27.04\00:32:28.94 with Abraham and the Jewish nation. 00:32:28.98\00:32:32.18 Isaiah is also reminding the children of Israel 00:32:32.21\00:32:35.32 of their destiny, to be God's ambassadors. 00:32:35.35\00:32:40.09 We are called today to share that light, 00:32:40.12\00:32:44.69 the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. 00:32:44.73\00:32:48.43 It is universal. 00:32:48.46\00:32:49.80 Jesus died for everyone. 1 Peter 2:9. 00:32:49.83\00:32:52.63 Now this is referring to us as the Church of God, 00:32:52.67\00:32:56.24 "But you are a chosen generation, 00:32:56.27\00:32:59.07 a royal priesthood, a holy nation, 00:32:59.11\00:33:02.18 God's own special people, 00:33:02.21\00:33:05.05 that we may proclaim the praises of Him 00:33:05.08\00:33:07.15 who called us out of darkness," 00:33:07.18\00:33:08.75 that's spiritual darkness of sin, 00:33:08.78\00:33:11.49 "into His marvelous light." 00:33:11.52\00:33:14.49 Who were once not a people, 00:33:14.52\00:33:16.56 but now we are the people of God. 00:33:16.59\00:33:19.89 Who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 00:33:19.93\00:33:24.40 We are called to share 00:33:24.43\00:33:25.77 this glorious gospel of the world. 00:33:25.80\00:33:27.14 That's why the mission of 3ABN, Matthew 28. 00:33:27.17\00:33:30.54 Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, 00:33:30.57\00:33:34.91 teaching, and preaching and baptizing with the world. 00:33:34.94\00:33:39.68 Finally, number four is how? 00:33:39.71\00:33:42.08 How do we arise? 00:33:42.12\00:33:43.45 How do we share this light? 00:33:43.49\00:33:45.95 I would submit to you 00:33:45.99\00:33:47.32 those four ways that we can arise, 00:33:47.36\00:33:50.39 and that we can share this light 00:33:50.43\00:33:53.46 with a dark world. 00:33:53.50\00:33:55.46 Way number one is to allow the Holy Spirit 00:33:55.50\00:33:58.53 to anoint and transform you. 00:33:58.57\00:34:01.37 I think there's a key connection 00:34:01.40\00:34:03.30 between the last verse of Isaiah 59, 00:34:03.34\00:34:06.17 and the first verse of Isaiah 60. 00:34:06.21\00:34:09.21 Isaiah 60 begins with arise and shine, 00:34:09.24\00:34:11.48 but you can't do that unless you see 00:34:11.51\00:34:13.11 what happens in the previous verse. 00:34:13.15\00:34:15.15 In Isaiah 59:21 says, 00:34:15.18\00:34:18.75 "'As for Me,' says the Lord, 00:34:18.79\00:34:20.12 'this is My covenant with them, 00:34:20.16\00:34:22.02 My spirit who is upon you, 00:34:22.06\00:34:24.49 and My words which I have put in your mouth." 00:34:24.53\00:34:28.06 Only after we are anointed by the Holy Spirit, 00:34:28.10\00:34:31.03 can we arise and shine? 00:34:31.07\00:34:32.83 Only after we have been anointed 00:34:32.87\00:34:35.30 and transformed by the Spirit. 00:34:35.34\00:34:38.77 Way number two, be who God has made you to be. 00:34:38.81\00:34:42.61 Don't try to be someone else. 00:34:42.64\00:34:44.88 Don't make special efforts to shine, simply shine. 00:34:44.91\00:34:50.39 I remember Pastor Johnny saying this years ago 00:34:50.42\00:34:52.85 and I always remembered it. 00:34:52.89\00:34:54.76 In Matthew 5:16, when Jesus is talking 00:34:54.79\00:34:57.06 to His disciples and says, 00:34:57.09\00:34:58.43 "Let your light so shine before men." 00:34:58.46\00:35:01.16 He doesn't say strive to shine. 00:35:01.20\00:35:03.16 He doesn't say work to shine. 00:35:03.20\00:35:05.53 Simply, we allow God to use us. 00:35:05.57\00:35:09.54 Let your light shine. 00:35:09.57\00:35:11.27 Way number three is to study His Word. 00:35:11.31\00:35:13.74 Psalm 119:105, 00:35:13.78\00:35:15.81 "Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." 00:35:15.84\00:35:20.82 Do you need light? 00:35:20.85\00:35:22.18 Study the Word of God. 00:35:22.22\00:35:23.55 Do you want to share light with someone else? 00:35:23.59\00:35:25.82 Study the Word of God. 00:35:25.85\00:35:27.19 And finally, number four, 00:35:27.22\00:35:28.56 make a choice for God and His way. 00:35:28.59\00:35:32.06 Romans 13:12, 00:35:32.09\00:35:33.43 "The night is far spent, the day is at hand. 00:35:33.46\00:35:36.30 Let us cast off the works of darkness, 00:35:36.33\00:35:38.67 make a choice to leave the way of Satan behind 00:35:38.70\00:35:41.67 and put on the armor of light." 00:35:41.70\00:35:45.14 Everyday make a choice for Jesus. 00:35:45.17\00:35:48.48 Amen. Thank you, Jill. 00:35:48.51\00:35:50.15 Very good. 00:35:50.18\00:35:51.51 Jill talk about every day making a choice for Jesus, 00:35:51.55\00:35:54.22 mine is talking about "The Year of the Lord's Favor." 00:35:54.25\00:35:57.75 Not only something that's done daily, 00:35:57.79\00:36:00.16 but something that we commit to yearly. 00:36:00.19\00:36:02.92 We begin in Isaiah 61, 00:36:02.96\00:36:05.03 the writer talks about the year of the Lord's favor. 00:36:05.06\00:36:08.43 This is very significant because from the time 00:36:08.46\00:36:10.93 that sin entered the world, Satan was given a notice. 00:36:10.97\00:36:16.54 He was told in Genesis 3:15, 00:36:16.57\00:36:18.34 "I will put enmity between you and the woman, 00:36:18.37\00:36:20.78 between your seed and her Seed." 00:36:20.81\00:36:22.81 He was given a notice. 00:36:22.84\00:36:24.68 And it was his determination 00:36:24.71\00:36:26.45 to prevent the year of the Lord's favor. 00:36:26.48\00:36:29.45 He knew was coming. 00:36:29.48\00:36:31.05 So from generation to generation, 00:36:31.09\00:36:32.92 he gauged not receiving the hidden knowledge of God. 00:36:32.95\00:36:36.93 He looked intently 00:36:36.96\00:36:38.29 into when could this year possibly come 00:36:38.33\00:36:40.90 and through the Jewish economy, 00:36:40.93\00:36:42.80 through the Jewish system of sacrifices, 00:36:42.83\00:36:45.80 he knew every year. 00:36:45.83\00:36:47.17 The Day of Atonement was a yearly reminder 00:36:47.20\00:36:49.70 that God's plan is continuing to march on. 00:36:49.74\00:36:52.51 It always left men in the year of the Lord's favor 00:36:52.54\00:36:56.24 if they provided a sacrifice in time 00:36:56.28\00:37:00.02 for the Day of Atonement service to blot out their sin. 00:37:00.05\00:37:03.35 And when the sin was blotted out, 00:37:03.39\00:37:04.72 it was a continual reminder to Satan himself, 00:37:04.75\00:37:07.29 that you cannot prevent God from blotting out man's sin. 00:37:07.32\00:37:10.53 Every year, not only was there 00:37:10.56\00:37:12.29 a continual reminder of man's fault, 00:37:12.33\00:37:15.30 but there was always a continual reminder 00:37:15.33\00:37:17.57 of the year of the Lord's favor. 00:37:17.60\00:37:19.40 So Isaiah 61 begins with these words, 00:37:19.43\00:37:22.10 the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me 00:37:22.14\00:37:24.37 because the Lord has anointed me 00:37:24.41\00:37:26.64 to preach good tidings to the poor. 00:37:26.68\00:37:29.81 He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, 00:37:29.84\00:37:32.65 to proclaim liberty to the captives, 00:37:32.68\00:37:34.98 and the opening of the prison to those who are bound. 00:37:35.02\00:37:37.79 Not only does this talk about the Messiah, 00:37:37.82\00:37:39.99 but the writer says, 00:37:40.02\00:37:41.36 either this is the Messiah or this is a Messiah. 00:37:41.39\00:37:45.09 Well, praise the Lord, it was not a Messiah. 00:37:45.13\00:37:47.40 Praise God, it was the Messiah, 00:37:47.43\00:37:49.46 because the Spirit of the Lord is obviously being anointed 00:37:49.50\00:37:54.90 upon a particular person. 00:37:54.94\00:37:56.94 And Isaiah proclaimed this 700 plus years 00:37:56.97\00:37:59.87 before this anointing actually took place. 00:37:59.91\00:38:02.01 Acts 10:38, 00:38:02.04\00:38:03.68 when Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost, 00:38:03.71\00:38:05.91 on the day of His baptism, a reminder that 00:38:05.95\00:38:09.12 the anointed one means the Messiah 00:38:09.15\00:38:11.15 or the Messiah means the anointed one. 00:38:11.19\00:38:13.86 So let's see the fulfillment of these words, 00:38:13.89\00:38:16.52 in the Book of Luke. 00:38:16.56\00:38:17.89 Luke 4:16-22. 00:38:17.93\00:38:20.30 This statement was made by the Anointed One, 00:38:20.33\00:38:22.70 the incarnate God, the pre-existent one, Jesus. 00:38:22.73\00:38:28.14 Luke 4:16, "So He came to Nazareth, 00:38:28.17\00:38:31.27 where He had been brought up. 00:38:31.31\00:38:32.67 And as His custom was, 00:38:32.71\00:38:34.04 He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, 00:38:34.08\00:38:36.81 and stood up to read." 00:38:36.85\00:38:38.18 Another reason why we should emulate Christ to what he did. 00:38:38.21\00:38:41.88 "And He was handed the book of the Prophet Isaiah. 00:38:41.92\00:38:45.92 And when He had opened the book, 00:38:45.95\00:38:47.52 He found the place where it is written." 00:38:47.56\00:38:49.59 It's amazing. 00:38:49.62\00:38:50.96 It's humbling to me, a panel that 00:38:50.99\00:38:52.69 what we're reading is what Jesus read. 00:38:52.73\00:38:55.23 I mean, that's amazing. I think about that. 00:38:55.26\00:38:57.20 And the verse 18 says, 00:38:57.23\00:38:58.80 He started repeating what we just read, 00:38:58.83\00:39:00.74 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, 00:39:00.77\00:39:03.30 because He has anointed Me 00:39:03.34\00:39:04.94 to preach the gospel to the poor, 00:39:04.97\00:39:06.84 He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, 00:39:06.88\00:39:09.01 to proclaim liberty to the captives, 00:39:09.04\00:39:11.81 and recovery of sight to the blind, 00:39:11.85\00:39:13.98 to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 00:39:14.02\00:39:16.32 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." 00:39:16.35\00:39:21.72 What happened? 00:39:21.76\00:39:23.09 "Then he closed the book, 00:39:23.12\00:39:24.69 and gave it back to the attendant 00:39:24.73\00:39:26.53 and sat down. 00:39:26.56\00:39:27.90 And the eyes of all 00:39:27.93\00:39:29.26 who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him." 00:39:29.30\00:39:30.93 In other words, why would he keep saying me? 00:39:30.97\00:39:36.17 Who is this young man that keeps saying me? 00:39:36.20\00:39:40.51 And the Bible goes on, "He began to say to them, 00:39:40.54\00:39:43.04 'Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.' 00:39:43.08\00:39:47.28 So all bore witness to Him, 00:39:47.32\00:39:49.38 and marveled at the gracious words 00:39:49.42\00:39:52.15 which proceeded out of His mouth. 00:39:52.19\00:39:54.69 And they said, 'Is this not Joseph's son?'" 00:39:54.72\00:39:59.39 Who is this kid? 00:39:59.43\00:40:00.86 How can you say these words of Isaiah 00:40:00.90\00:40:03.00 our Prophet is fulfilled, he's too young. 00:40:03.03\00:40:05.73 Where could he possibly be coming from. 00:40:05.77\00:40:07.84 But let's go back to Isaiah 42:1-8. 00:40:07.87\00:40:11.37 So Isaiah or the writer as who does sound like? 00:40:11.41\00:40:14.28 Here we go. 00:40:14.31\00:40:15.64 Isaiah 42:1-8, "Behold, My Servant whom I uphold, 00:40:15.68\00:40:20.35 My Elect One in whom My soul delights! 00:40:20.38\00:40:23.39 I have put My Spirit upon Him. 00:40:23.42\00:40:25.55 He will bring forth the justice to the Gentiles." 00:40:25.59\00:40:27.92 And Jill talked about that the message to the Gentiles. 00:40:27.96\00:40:31.63 And it says, "He will not cry out, 00:40:31.66\00:40:34.26 nor raise His voice, 00:40:34.30\00:40:35.63 nor cause His voice to be heard in the street." 00:40:35.66\00:40:37.80 And then he says, 00:40:37.83\00:40:39.17 "A bruised reed He will not break, 00:40:39.20\00:40:41.07 and a smoking flax He will not quench. 00:40:41.10\00:40:43.61 He will bring forth justice for truth. 00:40:43.64\00:40:46.54 He will not fail nor be discouraged, 00:40:46.57\00:40:49.14 till He has established justice in the earth, 00:40:49.18\00:40:51.68 and the coastlands shall wait for His law.' 00:40:51.71\00:40:55.12 Thus says God the Lord, 00:40:55.15\00:40:56.48 who created the heavens and stretched them out, 00:40:56.52\00:40:59.72 who spread forth the earth 00:40:59.75\00:41:02.09 and that which comes from it, 00:41:02.12\00:41:03.73 who gives breath to the people on it, 00:41:03.76\00:41:06.16 and Spirit to those who walk on it." 00:41:06.19\00:41:09.16 And now look at the identity. 00:41:09.20\00:41:10.97 "I, the Lord have called You in righteousness," 00:41:11.00\00:41:14.64 the Father calling the Son in righteousness, 00:41:14.67\00:41:18.34 "and will hold Your hand. 00:41:18.37\00:41:20.98 I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people." 00:41:21.01\00:41:24.75 This was an agreement between the Father and the Son, 00:41:24.78\00:41:27.62 the covenant was not decided by one individual. 00:41:27.65\00:41:30.55 And as we're going to study 00:41:30.59\00:41:31.92 in the future lesson on covenants, 00:41:31.95\00:41:33.56 there needs to be two people to make a covenant, 00:41:33.59\00:41:36.46 but one who is committed can overshadow the one 00:41:36.49\00:41:39.93 who's not able to be committed. 00:41:39.96\00:41:41.30 However, in this case, what the beauty is here, 00:41:41.33\00:41:44.10 the Father and the Son are both committed, 00:41:44.13\00:41:46.43 and the Father and the Son 00:41:46.47\00:41:47.90 are able to keep the covenant ratified. 00:41:47.94\00:41:50.71 Praise God for that. 00:41:50.74\00:41:52.41 He says, "I will keep You and give You 00:41:52.44\00:41:54.21 as a covenant to the people, 00:41:54.24\00:41:55.84 as a light to the Gentiles," to do what? 00:41:55.88\00:41:59.61 "To open blind eyes, 00:41:59.65\00:42:00.98 to bring out prisoners from the prison, 00:42:01.02\00:42:02.65 those who sit in darkness from the prison house. 00:42:02.68\00:42:05.05 I am the Lord, that is My name. 00:42:05.09\00:42:07.79 And My glory I will not give to another, 00:42:07.82\00:42:10.23 nor My praise to carved images." 00:42:10.26\00:42:12.26 Friends, as you're listening to this, 00:42:12.29\00:42:13.63 I want to pause right here and say, 00:42:13.66\00:42:15.06 the only reason why we can have hope today 00:42:15.10\00:42:16.93 in this dark world 00:42:16.97\00:42:18.30 because the Lord has committed Himself 00:42:18.33\00:42:20.34 to bring out of prison, 00:42:20.37\00:42:22.57 those who are held prisoners, 00:42:22.60\00:42:24.61 and also to those who sit in darkness, 00:42:24.64\00:42:26.61 meaning those who don't know God's Word, 00:42:26.64\00:42:29.04 He is the only one that can turn that light on. 00:42:29.08\00:42:32.51 His word is a lamp unto our feet 00:42:32.55\00:42:34.22 and a light into our paths. 00:42:34.25\00:42:35.98 And He says, I'm the one that's committed to do that. 00:42:36.02\00:42:38.25 I am the Lord and My glory, I will not give to another. 00:42:38.29\00:42:42.19 But what about the acceptable year of the Lord 00:42:42.22\00:42:44.73 that Isaiah 61 talked about? 00:42:44.76\00:42:46.63 Let's look at that. 00:42:46.66\00:42:48.00 Leviticus 25:10 talks about this acceptable year. 00:42:48.03\00:42:53.57 What year was the acceptable year? 00:42:53.60\00:42:55.84 And he brings this down back to 00:42:55.87\00:42:58.47 a law that's not only religious, 00:42:58.51\00:43:00.18 but agricultural. 00:43:00.21\00:43:01.94 We find the merging of two of them together 00:43:01.98\00:43:04.18 because every year, there was a time, 00:43:04.21\00:43:07.68 every seven years the land was to rest 00:43:07.72\00:43:10.15 every seventh year, 00:43:10.19\00:43:11.55 but then you had seven sevens, 00:43:11.59\00:43:13.52 and then you had the 50th year 00:43:13.56\00:43:14.89 or the year of jubilee was talked about. 00:43:14.92\00:43:17.46 So we find in Leviticus 25:10, 00:43:17.49\00:43:21.53 this 50th year is referred to. 00:43:21.56\00:43:24.03 And this is a reflection of the year of liberation, 00:43:24.07\00:43:26.87 how amazing the timing is. 00:43:26.90\00:43:28.57 It says, "And you shall consecrate the," 00:43:28.60\00:43:31.74 what year? 00:43:31.77\00:43:33.38 "The fiftieth year, 00:43:33.41\00:43:34.74 and proclaim liberty throughout all the land 00:43:34.78\00:43:37.38 to all its inhabitants. 00:43:37.41\00:43:39.28 It shall be a Jubilee for you. 00:43:39.31\00:43:42.25 And each of you shall return to his possessions, 00:43:42.28\00:43:45.02 and each of you shall return to his family." 00:43:45.05\00:43:48.66 You know, when somebody was forced to sell their land, 00:43:48.69\00:43:52.06 or sold their land for hardship, 00:43:52.09\00:43:53.90 the one who purchased that land had the obligation 00:43:53.93\00:43:56.63 under the Jewish law to give it back 00:43:56.67\00:43:58.73 in the year of jubilee. 00:43:58.77\00:44:00.80 And also every seventh year, 00:44:00.84\00:44:02.24 the Lord had given them an agricultural rule 00:44:02.27\00:44:04.21 for the land to rest, 00:44:04.24\00:44:05.61 so that it will replenish itself, 00:44:05.64\00:44:07.71 but it happened on the 50th year, 00:44:07.74\00:44:11.05 but notice something. 00:44:11.08\00:44:12.41 There's an association with the 50th year 00:44:12.45\00:44:14.78 and the Day of Pentecost because that's the 50th day. 00:44:14.82\00:44:18.65 Let's look at Acts 2:1, what happened there? 00:44:18.69\00:44:21.82 Acts 2:1, "When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, 00:44:21.86\00:44:25.19 they were all with one accord in one place." 00:44:25.23\00:44:27.96 In other words, 00:44:28.00\00:44:29.33 there was a bringing back together, 00:44:29.36\00:44:31.30 when that year of acceptance was fulfilled. 00:44:31.33\00:44:33.54 And the Lord said, 00:44:33.57\00:44:34.90 "I'm gonna do something in this year." 00:44:34.94\00:44:36.30 The very spirit that was poured out on Jesus, 00:44:36.34\00:44:39.54 in His year of acceptance is poured out 00:44:39.57\00:44:42.38 on those who are waiting for the Holy Spirit 00:44:42.41\00:44:45.65 on the day of acceptance, the year of the Lord. 00:44:45.68\00:44:48.52 So three very quick points. 00:44:48.55\00:44:51.12 One, Acts 1:4, we must wait and prepare 00:44:51.15\00:44:54.79 for the infilling of the Holy Spirit, 00:44:54.82\00:44:57.16 as the apostles did before the Day of Pentecost. 00:44:57.19\00:45:00.20 "And being assembled together with them, He commanded them 00:45:00.23\00:45:02.76 not to depart from Jerusalem, 00:45:02.80\00:45:04.57 but to wait for the Promise of the Father, 00:45:04.60\00:45:06.80 which He has said, 'You have heard from Me.'" 00:45:06.84\00:45:09.14 Number two, we must work toward unity 00:45:09.17\00:45:12.87 as the apostles were on the Day of Pentecost. 00:45:12.91\00:45:15.64 Acts 2:1, "When the Day of Pentecost 00:45:15.68\00:45:17.71 had fully come, 00:45:17.75\00:45:19.08 they were all with one accord in one place." 00:45:19.11\00:45:22.75 And finally, number three, 00:45:22.78\00:45:24.42 we must make ourselves available for the Spirit of God 00:45:24.45\00:45:29.16 to reveal His power to us on the acceptable day. 00:45:29.19\00:45:33.06 Acts 1:8, "But you shall receive power 00:45:33.09\00:45:37.23 when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, 00:45:37.27\00:45:39.37 and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, 00:45:39.40\00:45:43.64 and in all Judea and Samaria, 00:45:43.67\00:45:46.17 and to the ends of the earth 00:45:46.21\00:45:48.14 in the acceptable year of the Lord." 00:45:48.18\00:45:50.61 Amen. Amen. 00:45:50.65\00:45:52.48 Wow! It's a such a great study. 00:45:52.51\00:45:55.32 And I'm so excited. 00:45:55.35\00:45:57.65 I've got one verse. 00:45:57.69\00:46:01.29 Isaiah 61:2, 00:46:01.32\00:46:03.66 in the midst of all of this good news, 00:46:03.69\00:46:06.13 here's what he says, 00:46:06.16\00:46:07.70 "To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, 00:46:07.73\00:46:11.20 and the day of vengeance of our God. 00:46:11.23\00:46:14.40 To comfort all who mourn." 00:46:14.44\00:46:16.34 So Thursday's lesson is 00:46:16.37\00:46:18.74 "The Day of Vengeance of Our God." 00:46:18.77\00:46:21.54 So let me just back up here. 00:46:21.58\00:46:23.95 Jesus, after His temptation in the desert, 00:46:23.98\00:46:28.08 He comes out in the power of the Spirit, 00:46:28.12\00:46:30.55 He's going around all the region, 00:46:30.59\00:46:32.99 preaching in the synagogues and doing amazing things. 00:46:33.02\00:46:36.62 And boy, all the region was buzzing 00:46:36.66\00:46:40.53 with reports about Him, and He goes back to Nazareth. 00:46:40.56\00:46:45.23 And when He gets to His hometown of Nazareth, 00:46:45.27\00:46:48.80 man that on that Sabbath, 00:46:48.84\00:46:50.97 everybody is at the synagogue, 00:46:51.01\00:46:53.84 they want to see this young man they watch grow up, 00:46:53.88\00:46:58.78 what's all these reports about Him? 00:46:58.81\00:47:01.42 So they all are gathered around, 00:47:01.45\00:47:03.49 He walks in, 00:47:03.52\00:47:04.92 He walks down front, they hand Him the scroll, 00:47:04.95\00:47:07.82 He opens it up, right to this very place 00:47:07.86\00:47:10.83 of everything you just said in Isaiah 61:2, 00:47:10.86\00:47:14.16 and I'm gonna read this again because this is amazing. 00:47:14.20\00:47:16.70 He says in Luke 4:18-19, 00:47:16.73\00:47:20.40 "'The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, 00:47:20.44\00:47:22.70 because He has anointed Me 00:47:22.74\00:47:24.11 to preach the gospel to the poor. 00:47:24.14\00:47:25.91 He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, 00:47:25.94\00:47:28.14 to proclaim liberty to the captives 00:47:28.18\00:47:31.11 and recovery of the sight to the blind, 00:47:31.15\00:47:33.82 to set it liberty those who are oppressed, 00:47:33.85\00:47:37.59 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.'" 00:47:37.62\00:47:40.59 And He stops. 00:47:40.62\00:47:44.79 He stops abruptly. 00:47:44.83\00:47:46.49 He doesn't read, 00:47:46.53\00:47:49.00 and the day of vengeance of our God. 00:47:49.03\00:47:53.37 He doesn't say that, He stops. 00:47:53.40\00:47:56.07 And I bet the people noticed. 00:47:56.10\00:47:57.67 I mean, they were familiar with Isaiah. 00:47:57.71\00:48:00.61 So when He stops in the midst of this reading, 00:48:00.64\00:48:03.51 and He goes and He hands Isaiah, 00:48:03.55\00:48:06.01 I mean, the scroll to the attendant, 00:48:06.05\00:48:08.18 He goes and sits down. 00:48:08.22\00:48:09.55 Then He says, 00:48:09.58\00:48:10.92 today these things been fulfilled 00:48:10.95\00:48:13.86 before your very eyes. 00:48:13.89\00:48:15.56 So what is... 00:48:15.59\00:48:18.39 Can you imagine 00:48:18.43\00:48:19.76 what a electrifying moment that must have been? 00:48:19.79\00:48:22.06 I mean, people must have been so excited, 00:48:22.10\00:48:25.60 but He is proclaiming His mission. 00:48:25.63\00:48:29.50 And He stops because that's all that 00:48:29.54\00:48:34.18 had been fulfilled at that point. 00:48:34.21\00:48:36.71 The day of the vengeance of our Lord is still to come. 00:48:36.75\00:48:40.88 So Isaiah's prophecy would have been 00:48:40.92\00:48:43.22 seen through the lens 00:48:43.25\00:48:47.29 of Babylonian exile. 00:48:47.32\00:48:49.49 They would think of the restoration 00:48:49.52\00:48:52.69 of the remnant, and that, you know, 00:48:52.73\00:48:54.16 when they're gonna rebuild Jerusalem, 00:48:54.20\00:48:56.36 but Jesus takes it to an infinitely higher level 00:48:56.40\00:49:01.30 because what He is coming to destroy 00:49:01.34\00:49:05.37 is Satan and the works of the devil. 00:49:05.41\00:49:08.98 In John 8, He says, You shall, this is John 8:32, Jesus said, 00:49:09.01\00:49:13.28 "You shall know the truth, 00:49:13.31\00:49:14.65 and the truth shall make you free." 00:49:14.68\00:49:18.29 Verse 34, "Most assuredly, 00:49:18.32\00:49:20.09 I say to you, 00:49:20.12\00:49:21.46 whoever commits sin is a slave to sin." 00:49:21.49\00:49:24.09 But verse 36 says, 00:49:24.13\00:49:26.29 "Therefore if the Son makes you free, 00:49:26.33\00:49:29.00 you are free indeed." 00:49:29.03\00:49:31.60 So everything about that 00:49:31.63\00:49:34.57 first portion of Isaiah 61 00:49:34.60\00:49:38.64 had been fulfilled, 00:49:38.67\00:49:40.14 but not the day of the vengeance. 00:49:40.18\00:49:42.74 And, you know, Jesus predicted you can see 00:49:42.78\00:49:45.01 in Matthew 24, Luke 13, 00:49:45.05\00:49:48.28 or Mark 13, Luke 21, 00:49:48.32\00:49:50.69 Jesus predicted these things are coming. 00:49:50.72\00:49:54.86 There's a judgment that's coming. 00:49:54.89\00:49:56.86 So here's what I've got to get to. 00:49:56.89\00:50:01.80 Christ is gonna come again to liberate planet earth. 00:50:01.83\00:50:04.67 And you're gonna look in Revelation 19. 00:50:04.70\00:50:07.60 It's describing His return 00:50:07.64\00:50:09.87 with the angelic hosts of heaven, 00:50:09.90\00:50:13.44 when He returns to slay all the sinners 00:50:13.48\00:50:16.04 with the sword of His Word. 00:50:16.08\00:50:18.75 Look at Revelation 19:15, 00:50:18.78\00:50:22.05 it says, "Out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, 00:50:22.08\00:50:24.79 that with it He should strike the nations." 00:50:24.82\00:50:27.72 Didn't Jesus say, hey, 00:50:27.76\00:50:29.52 it's My word that's going to judge you in the end." 00:50:29.56\00:50:32.86 And He Himself will rule over them 00:50:32.89\00:50:34.80 with a rod of iron. 00:50:34.83\00:50:36.16 He Himself treads the winepress 00:50:36.20\00:50:38.70 of the fierceness and the wrath of Almighty God." 00:50:38.73\00:50:41.14 So how do we 00:50:41.17\00:50:46.47 reconcile the notion 00:50:46.51\00:50:49.08 that God is God of love? 00:50:49.11\00:50:50.88 Yet He's got a day of a vengeance that's coming. 00:50:50.91\00:50:55.25 Does that seem reconcilable to you used to me, 00:50:55.28\00:50:59.55 but you know what I've learned, 00:50:59.59\00:51:01.49 you have got to remember that God's essence is love, 00:51:01.52\00:51:07.00 God is holy, just righteous, pure. 00:51:07.03\00:51:10.10 That is the essence of His being is love, 00:51:10.13\00:51:15.07 and character is derived 00:51:15.10\00:51:19.54 from your nature. 00:51:19.57\00:51:22.21 So it is God's love that makes Him holy, 00:51:22.24\00:51:25.58 righteous, pure. 00:51:25.61\00:51:27.72 It is God's nature of love 00:51:27.75\00:51:31.75 that we can count on, 00:51:31.79\00:51:34.32 but character wise 00:51:34.36\00:51:36.96 God is completely separated from sin, totally. 00:51:36.99\00:51:40.43 His nature is totally opposed to sin, 00:51:40.46\00:51:44.43 and sin and love are as opposite 00:51:44.47\00:51:48.00 on the sides of the pole as you can make them. 00:51:48.04\00:51:51.17 So when you think of God's response to anger, 00:51:51.21\00:51:56.48 response to sin, 00:51:56.51\00:51:58.88 God has a visceral response to sin. 00:51:58.91\00:52:03.28 It's an abomination to Him. 00:52:03.32\00:52:05.75 He knows He's grieved 00:52:05.79\00:52:09.96 how man has used free will. 00:52:09.99\00:52:11.99 God has given us free will, 00:52:12.03\00:52:14.83 but man misuses it to oppress others. 00:52:14.86\00:52:19.03 See, God's government is ruled by the power of love. 00:52:19.07\00:52:24.64 Man's government's the love of power, is it not? 00:52:24.67\00:52:27.81 So do we get upset 00:52:27.84\00:52:30.65 when we see someone hurting someone else? 00:52:30.68\00:52:34.35 We just had a little girl in our area, 00:52:34.38\00:52:36.99 who was stabbed to death a little girl, 00:52:37.02\00:52:40.42 by I think it was her mother or aunt, 00:52:40.46\00:52:43.59 but, you know, you look at that and you think, 00:52:43.63\00:52:46.23 how did this happen? 00:52:46.26\00:52:47.83 And we get upset. 00:52:47.86\00:52:49.20 Why would we not think that God gets upset 00:52:49.23\00:52:52.27 with humanity sins against the other? 00:52:52.30\00:52:55.94 But you have to understand that God's wrath 00:52:55.97\00:53:00.98 is rooted in His nature of love. 00:53:01.01\00:53:05.28 It's His response to something that He didn't create. 00:53:05.31\00:53:09.35 God didn't create sin. 00:53:09.38\00:53:11.62 So He is going to confront sin in a holy love, 00:53:11.65\00:53:17.39 a holy anger, and a holy judgment. 00:53:17.43\00:53:22.06 God's wrath is the expression 00:53:22.10\00:53:26.90 of love's perfect justice. 00:53:26.94\00:53:30.77 And you know what? 00:53:30.81\00:53:32.14 His wrath is not permanent. 00:53:32.17\00:53:34.41 No sin, no wrath. 00:53:34.44\00:53:36.08 You know, so, but thankfully, God is patient. 00:53:36.11\00:53:39.98 In Nahum 1:3, just as when you mentioned, 00:53:40.02\00:53:45.85 I think when Moses said, "Show me Your glory." 00:53:45.89\00:53:48.99 God lists His character. 00:53:49.02\00:53:51.16 But Nahum 1:3 says, 00:53:51.19\00:53:52.53 "The Lord is slow to anger great in power, 00:53:52.56\00:53:56.30 and will not at all acquit the wicked." 00:53:56.33\00:54:01.24 You know, that's good news. 00:54:01.27\00:54:03.41 It's good news that there's love's perfect justice 00:54:03.44\00:54:07.51 is gonna do away with sin and sinners. 00:54:07.54\00:54:10.65 That's good news. 00:54:10.68\00:54:12.35 Ezekiel 33:11. 00:54:12.38\00:54:14.22 Listen to the heart of a loving God. 00:54:14.25\00:54:16.52 He says, "I have no pleasure 00:54:16.55\00:54:20.39 in the death of the wicked." 00:54:20.42\00:54:21.92 This is God's speaking, 00:54:21.96\00:54:23.53 "But that the wicked would turn from his way and live. 00:54:23.56\00:54:28.50 Turn, turn from your evil ways! 00:54:28.53\00:54:31.67 For why should you die?" 00:54:31.70\00:54:34.27 See, the wages of sin is death. 00:54:34.30\00:54:38.37 God has always said that's what's going to happen. 00:54:38.41\00:54:42.34 And even though we talk about 00:54:42.38\00:54:45.05 a God of love, of perfect love, 00:54:45.08\00:54:48.65 hate doesn't just blindly ignore our sins and say, 00:54:48.68\00:54:53.29 oh, too bad you murdered so and so, 00:54:53.32\00:54:56.02 too bad you committed adultery, too bad you did this. 00:54:56.06\00:54:59.53 No, rather from the depth of His love, 00:54:59.56\00:55:04.23 God gave us His righteous covenant 00:55:04.27\00:55:09.14 Son Jesus Christ. 00:55:09.17\00:55:11.11 From the depths of His love, 00:55:11.14\00:55:13.91 God paid the penalty 00:55:13.94\00:55:16.41 that He knew we could never pay, 00:55:16.44\00:55:19.45 and He died on the cross so that we might be saved. 00:55:19.48\00:55:24.45 So when we look at the day of vengeance of our Lord, 00:55:24.49\00:55:30.03 it is right to talk about the love of God, 00:55:30.06\00:55:33.13 we talk about the love of God often, 00:55:33.16\00:55:35.50 but it's also right to warn, 00:55:35.53\00:55:38.77 that there will come a day when that too is fulfilled. 00:55:38.80\00:55:43.67 Praise the Lord. 00:55:43.71\00:55:45.24 Ah, man, I find myself going over here, 00:55:45.27\00:55:46.91 I'm on fire over here looking at all these verses 00:55:46.94\00:55:50.08 that are going along with everyone's messages. 00:55:50.11\00:55:51.91 And it's just a powerful lesson. 00:55:51.95\00:55:53.28 It is. 00:55:53.31\00:55:54.65 Let's go with the time we have left, 00:55:54.68\00:55:56.02 let's get some final thoughts. 00:55:56.05\00:55:57.39 Yes, this is a reality that we all need righteousness. 00:55:57.42\00:56:03.29 And so we cannot get it without Christ. 00:56:03.32\00:56:06.36 I'm quoting to you from Christ's Object Lessons, 00:56:06.39\00:56:08.70 page 311. 00:56:08.73\00:56:10.93 "This robe, woven in the loom of heaven, 00:56:10.97\00:56:14.27 has in it not one thread of human devising. 00:56:14.30\00:56:19.41 Christ in His humanity 00:56:19.44\00:56:21.21 wrought out a perfect character, 00:56:21.24\00:56:24.31 and this character He offers to impart to us." 00:56:24.35\00:56:27.75 It is up to us to receive it. Amen. 00:56:27.78\00:56:30.89 Isaiah 62:2, 00:56:30.92\00:56:34.12 "The Gentiles shall see your righteousness, 00:56:34.16\00:56:37.89 and all kings your glory. 00:56:37.93\00:56:39.63 You shall be called by a new name, 00:56:39.66\00:56:42.16 which the mouth of the Lord will name. 00:56:42.20\00:56:44.33 You will be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord." 00:56:44.37\00:56:47.80 What a privilege is ours as Christians. 00:56:47.84\00:56:50.91 Amen. 00:56:50.94\00:56:52.27 And mine was The Year of the Lord's Favor. 00:56:52.31\00:56:54.01 Well, 2 Corinthians 6:2 brings this to fruition. 00:56:54.04\00:56:58.85 When the Apostle Paul says, 00:56:58.88\00:57:01.18 "For He says, 'In an acceptable time 00:57:01.22\00:57:04.69 I have heard you, 00:57:04.72\00:57:06.12 and in the day of salvation I have helped you.'" 00:57:06.15\00:57:08.56 When is that acceptable time? 00:57:08.59\00:57:10.06 "Behold, now is the acceptable time, 00:57:10.09\00:57:13.03 behold, now is the day of salvation." 00:57:13.06\00:57:15.70 Amen and amen. 00:57:15.73\00:57:17.20 Same scripture I was gonna go to, 00:57:17.23\00:57:19.90 but God does not want to condemn, 00:57:19.93\00:57:23.87 but to save humanity. 00:57:23.91\00:57:25.24 That is His purpose. 00:57:25.27\00:57:26.61 That's why He died on the cross for us. 00:57:26.64\00:57:29.34 And anyone who's in Christ 00:57:29.38\00:57:31.61 can be at peace with God, 00:57:31.65\00:57:33.75 but please understand one thing, 00:57:33.78\00:57:36.58 we have to give a warning, the day of the Lord is coming. 00:57:36.62\00:57:40.66 The day of the Lord, 00:57:40.69\00:57:43.22 the vengeance of our Lord is coming. 00:57:43.26\00:57:46.83 Don't get caught.
