And I love Isaiah 53. 00:02:36.82\00:02:40.46 It's just an incredible chapter. 00:02:40.49\00:02:41.82 Amen and amen. 00:02:41.86\00:02:43.19 Well, let's just go ahead and begin with a prayer. 00:02:43.22\00:02:46.56 And, Ryan, would you have a prayer for us? 00:02:46.59\00:02:49.30 Absolutely. 00:02:49.33\00:02:50.70 Father in heaven, Lord, again, we're just so blessed, 00:02:50.73\00:02:53.97 and privileged to be here, to be able to commune with You, 00:02:54.00\00:02:56.74 Lord, to open Your Word and to spend time with You. 00:02:56.77\00:02:59.77 And so, Lord, again, we need a blessing. 00:02:59.81\00:03:01.81 We need the guidance of Your Holy Spirit 00:03:01.84\00:03:03.95 to speak through us, Lord, so that Your Word, Lord, 00:03:03.98\00:03:06.95 is amplified and projected into the hearts 00:03:06.98\00:03:09.02 and minds of every person 00:03:09.05\00:03:10.42 for the purpose of drawing all of us to you. 00:03:10.45\00:03:13.09 So, Lord, give us a blessing, 00:03:13.12\00:03:14.52 right now we ask in Jesus' holy name. 00:03:14.56\00:03:16.56 Amen. Amen. 00:03:16.59\00:03:18.59 I love the story that 00:03:18.63\00:03:19.96 the Sabbath School quarterly begins with on lesson 10. 00:03:20.00\00:03:22.66 And that is about 00:03:22.70\00:03:24.07 a Chinese nationals named Lou Fook. 00:03:24.10\00:03:27.50 And he felt great compassion for his fellow countrymen 00:03:27.54\00:03:32.14 who were toiling away as slaves in African mines. 00:03:32.17\00:03:37.35 He desperately wanted to get 00:03:37.38\00:03:39.75 the gospel to them desperately. 00:03:39.78\00:03:42.12 And he couldn't figure out any other way to do it, 00:03:42.15\00:03:45.19 other than to sell himself into slavery for five years. 00:03:45.22\00:03:50.29 And he went to the African mines 00:03:50.33\00:03:53.19 as a slave, 00:03:53.23\00:03:54.73 he actually died toiling in the mines, 00:03:54.76\00:03:57.93 but not until he had introduced 00:03:57.97\00:04:02.27 200 people to Jesus Christ. 00:04:02.30\00:04:06.04 Two hundred people who accepted Christ 00:04:06.07\00:04:09.08 as their Savior and Lord, and gave them that hope. 00:04:09.11\00:04:12.18 To me, that's unthinkable. 00:04:12.21\00:04:14.38 But he was following 00:04:14.42\00:04:15.95 the pattern of what God did for us. 00:04:15.98\00:04:18.62 When God as Philippians 2:5 says, 00:04:18.65\00:04:22.26 came down, became a man, 00:04:22.29\00:04:25.29 took on the form of a slave, a bond slave, 00:04:25.33\00:04:29.83 became a man so that 00:04:29.86\00:04:33.54 He could then through obedience die on the cross for us 00:04:33.57\00:04:38.61 as a substitute for our sins. 00:04:38.64\00:04:41.04 That's so marvelous. 00:04:41.08\00:04:42.41 So, this week, 00:04:42.44\00:04:43.78 we will be studying this incredible event 00:04:43.81\00:04:46.92 that was prophesied centuries before it happened. 00:04:46.95\00:04:50.55 Sunday's lesson is "Isaiah's Testing Truth." 00:04:50.59\00:04:54.36 We're going to consider Isaiah 50:4-10. 00:04:54.39\00:04:59.43 This is the third of the servant songs. 00:04:59.46\00:05:04.10 We've already, Jill, I believe you did Isaiah 42, 00:05:04.13\00:05:07.14 I did Isaiah 49. 00:05:07.17\00:05:09.24 And now Isaiah 50. 00:05:09.27\00:05:11.17 And we're coming to the fourth one, 00:05:11.21\00:05:13.54 I believe this time as well. 00:05:13.58\00:05:15.64 I have to read this paragraph, 00:05:15.68\00:05:18.51 I thought it was so well worded from the quarterly. 00:05:18.55\00:05:22.08 It says, "Isaiah is an artist 00:05:22.12\00:05:26.76 whose canvas is the soul 00:05:26.79\00:05:29.09 of his listener to teach, persuade, 00:05:29.12\00:05:32.26 and give his audience an encounter 00:05:32.29\00:05:35.46 with the servant of the Lord." 00:05:35.50\00:05:37.47 Isaiah develops a rich fabric 00:05:37.50\00:05:41.97 of recurring themes in symphonic fashion. 00:05:42.00\00:05:46.74 And, you know, 00:05:46.78\00:05:48.11 Isaiah is pretty much a poet, isn't he? 00:05:48.14\00:05:50.08 It's amazing. 00:05:50.11\00:05:51.88 His words are amazing. 00:05:51.91\00:05:53.68 He unfolds God's message in steps 00:05:53.72\00:05:57.05 so that each aspect can be grasped in relation 00:05:57.09\00:06:02.19 to the rest of the picture. 00:06:02.22\00:06:04.56 What we find in Isaiah 50 00:06:04.59\00:06:08.46 is the servant's soliloquy. 00:06:08.50\00:06:12.57 Do you know a soliloquy 00:06:12.60\00:06:14.80 is when someone is speaking aloud 00:06:14.84\00:06:18.21 their own thoughts 00:06:18.24\00:06:19.71 whether someone's listening or not. 00:06:19.74\00:06:22.18 So this is the Messiah's soliloquy, 00:06:22.21\00:06:25.95 and He is talking about 00:06:25.98\00:06:28.28 being perfected 00:06:28.32\00:06:30.05 through obedience and suffering. 00:06:30.09\00:06:32.62 And it reminds me of what the New Testament 00:06:32.65\00:06:35.06 says about Jesus in Hebrews 5:8-9. 00:06:35.09\00:06:38.19 It says, "Though He was a Son, the covenant Son of God, 00:06:38.23\00:06:43.06 yet He learned obedience 00:06:43.10\00:06:45.23 by the things which He suffered." 00:06:45.27\00:06:48.20 And then listen to this. 00:06:48.24\00:06:52.07 Hebrews 5:9, "And having been perfected, 00:06:52.11\00:06:56.08 He became the author 00:06:56.11\00:06:59.08 of eternal salvation to all who," what? 00:06:59.11\00:07:03.85 "Obey Him." 00:07:03.89\00:07:06.02 See, this covenant, God makes all of the promises, 00:07:06.05\00:07:10.83 but we to be in covenant with God, 00:07:10.86\00:07:14.43 have to have be motivated by love 00:07:14.46\00:07:17.13 and have covenant loyalty, 00:07:17.17\00:07:19.40 which is our obedience. 00:07:19.43\00:07:20.94 So let's look at Isaiah 15:4. 00:07:20.97\00:07:23.67 Isaiah 15:4, 00:07:23.71\00:07:26.81 one of my favorite scriptures. 00:07:26.84\00:07:29.38 The Lord has given me, 00:07:29.41\00:07:32.08 this is the Messiah servant speaking. 00:07:32.11\00:07:34.75 "The Lord has given me the tongue of the learned." 00:07:34.78\00:07:39.05 Oh, we know that 00:07:39.09\00:07:40.42 Jesus had an incredible teaching ministry. 00:07:40.46\00:07:44.96 And He says that, 00:07:44.99\00:07:46.33 "I should know how to speak a word 00:07:46.36\00:07:48.43 in season to him who is weary." 00:07:48.46\00:07:52.93 The tongue of an instructed disciple 00:07:52.97\00:07:56.17 who could share God's Word to sustain the weary. 00:07:56.20\00:08:01.14 He, and now He's going to tell us 00:08:01.18\00:08:03.51 how He received, 00:08:03.55\00:08:06.98 He reveals the source of this. 00:08:07.02\00:08:09.55 He awakens me morning by morning, 00:08:09.58\00:08:13.56 He awakens my ear to hear as the learned. 00:08:13.59\00:08:18.93 So the Father awoke him 00:08:18.96\00:08:21.90 morning by morning, and we know, 00:08:21.93\00:08:23.47 let me just give you three scriptures 00:08:23.50\00:08:25.50 from the New Testament that mentioned this, 00:08:25.53\00:08:27.44 there's others. 00:08:27.47\00:08:28.80 But Mark 1:35 says, "Now in the morning, 00:08:28.84\00:08:33.27 having risen a long while before daylight, 00:08:33.31\00:08:36.64 He went out and departed to a solitary place, 00:08:36.68\00:08:39.75 and there He prayed. 00:08:39.78\00:08:41.25 John 7:16 says, "Jesus answered them and said, 00:08:41.28\00:08:45.95 'My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me." 00:08:45.99\00:08:50.29 And John 12:49 says, Jesus speaking, 00:08:50.33\00:08:54.23 "I have not spoken on My own authority. 00:08:54.26\00:08:57.10 But the Father who sent me gave me a command, 00:08:57.13\00:09:00.87 what I should say and what I should speak." 00:09:00.90\00:09:04.17 Let me hit the pause button here for just a second. 00:09:04.21\00:09:07.31 Do you realize God 00:09:07.34\00:09:09.88 will awaken you morning by morning, 00:09:09.91\00:09:12.35 if you just ask Him to? 00:09:12.38\00:09:14.52 If you want to develop 00:09:14.55\00:09:17.65 the tongue of an instructed disciple, 00:09:17.69\00:09:20.89 one who can share God's Word 00:09:20.92\00:09:23.59 to sustain the weary, 00:09:23.63\00:09:25.29 you need to go to God in the morning, 00:09:25.33\00:09:27.73 get, pray to Him, 00:09:27.76\00:09:29.86 let Him speak to you through His Word, 00:09:29.90\00:09:33.40 and follow the example of Jesus. 00:09:33.44\00:09:36.40 Okay. 00:09:36.44\00:09:37.77 Isaiah 50:5, "The Lord has opened my ear, 00:09:37.81\00:09:42.74 and I was not rebellious, 00:09:42.78\00:09:46.01 nor did I turn away." 00:09:46.05\00:09:47.82 When you think about it, 00:09:47.85\00:09:50.05 the nation of Israel as the servant of God, 00:09:50.09\00:09:54.36 did they listen? 00:09:54.39\00:09:55.86 Did they listen to God? 00:09:55.89\00:09:57.23 No, they refused to listen 00:09:57.26\00:09:59.06 and they sinfully turned away from God. 00:09:59.09\00:10:01.96 But the servant Messiah is entirely different. 00:10:02.00\00:10:06.37 He listens and he obeyed with perfect obedience. 00:10:06.40\00:10:11.51 Praise the Lord because that perfect obedience 00:10:11.54\00:10:15.38 is now imputed or credited to us 00:10:15.41\00:10:19.71 when we accept Him as Savior. 00:10:19.75\00:10:21.95 He never rebelled against 00:10:21.98\00:10:24.12 what the Father asked Him to do, 00:10:24.15\00:10:26.52 no matter what the cost was to Him personally. 00:10:26.55\00:10:30.83 He even humbled Himself to the point of obedience 00:10:30.86\00:10:36.16 where He died on a cross for us. 00:10:36.20\00:10:39.53 Okay, Isaiah 50:6, 00:10:39.57\00:10:42.37 "I gave My back to those who struck me, 00:10:42.40\00:10:45.34 and my cheeks to those who plucked out the beard. 00:10:45.37\00:10:49.51 I did not hide My face from shame and spitting." 00:10:49.54\00:10:53.31 He gave Himself willingly, humbly to those who abused Him 00:10:53.35\00:10:59.09 and He knew that God would vindicate Him. 00:10:59.12\00:11:02.66 So He suffered, 00:11:02.69\00:11:05.59 His back was given to His tormentors, 00:11:05.63\00:11:08.50 they lashed Him, 00:11:08.53\00:11:10.30 He did not retaliate 00:11:10.33\00:11:11.80 when they plucked it out His beard or spat on Him. 00:11:11.83\00:11:15.40 Jesus fulfilled this prophecy perfectly. 00:11:15.44\00:11:18.67 We find the story in all of the gospels, 00:11:18.71\00:11:21.01 Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. 00:11:21.04\00:11:23.04 And He was the gentle Lamb that was led to the slaughter. 00:11:23.08\00:11:28.28 So Isaiah 50:7, "For the Lord God will help Me, 00:11:28.32\00:11:34.06 therefore I will not be disgraced." 00:11:34.09\00:11:37.13 He was never ashamed to die 00:11:37.16\00:11:39.29 in submission to God's plan of salvation by grace. 00:11:39.33\00:11:44.20 "Therefore I have set My face like a flint, 00:11:44.23\00:11:50.14 and I know that I will not be ashamed." 00:11:50.17\00:11:55.54 Christ was unswayed by any hardship, any threats, 00:11:55.58\00:12:00.52 anything that He knew that was awaiting Him in Jerusalem. 00:12:00.55\00:12:05.79 He resolutely determined to go to Jerusalem. 00:12:05.82\00:12:09.79 As a matter of fact, Luke 9:51 says, 00:12:09.82\00:12:12.96 "It came to pass, 00:12:12.99\00:12:14.50 when the time had come for Him 00:12:14.53\00:12:17.03 to be received up," 00:12:17.07\00:12:19.43 it says, for His crucifixion, 00:12:19.47\00:12:22.70 "that He steadfastly set His face 00:12:22.74\00:12:25.97 to go to Jerusalem." 00:12:26.01\00:12:28.61 He was determined to go. 00:12:28.64\00:12:29.98 He knew that He would be vindicated 00:12:30.01\00:12:33.62 because generations to come 00:12:33.65\00:12:36.35 would be saved 00:12:36.38\00:12:37.95 through His glorious submission. 00:12:37.99\00:12:40.29 So now verse 8, Isaiah 50:8, "He is near who justifies Me, 00:12:40.32\00:12:46.26 who will contend with Me? 00:12:46.29\00:12:48.60 Let us stand together. 00:12:48.63\00:12:50.57 Who is My adversary? 00:12:50.60\00:12:52.90 Let him come near Me." 00:12:52.93\00:12:54.97 Paraphrased, you know 00:12:55.00\00:12:56.34 how I would say that Jesus is saying, 00:12:56.37\00:12:58.57 "Bring it on." Okay. 00:12:58.61\00:13:00.38 I like that. 00:13:00.41\00:13:02.34 "Surely the Lord God will help Me, 00:13:02.38\00:13:06.11 who is he who will condemn Me? 00:13:06.15\00:13:09.15 Indeed they will all grow old like a garment, 00:13:09.18\00:13:12.69 and the moth will eat them up." 00:13:12.72\00:13:15.62 He had full confidence in God's support, 00:13:15.66\00:13:18.56 no matter how He was mistreated. 00:13:18.59\00:13:21.40 And, you know, 00:13:21.43\00:13:22.76 the Apostle Paul paraphrases this scripture, 00:13:22.80\00:13:27.54 and he gives us this beautiful promise 00:13:27.57\00:13:29.70 in Romans 8:31-34. 00:13:29.74\00:13:32.97 He says, "What then shall we say to these things? 00:13:33.01\00:13:36.34 If God is for us, who can be against us? 00:13:36.38\00:13:40.18 He who did not spare His own Son, 00:13:40.22\00:13:44.59 but delivered Him up for us all, 00:13:44.62\00:13:48.69 how shall He not with Him 00:13:48.72\00:13:52.29 also freely give to us all things? 00:13:52.33\00:13:56.23 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? 00:13:56.26\00:13:59.70 It is God who justifies. 00:13:59.73\00:14:02.34 Who is he who condemns? 00:14:02.37\00:14:04.81 It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, 00:14:04.84\00:14:10.45 who is even at the right hand of God, 00:14:10.48\00:14:13.28 who also makes intercession for us." 00:14:13.31\00:14:18.42 Our life, our future, 00:14:18.45\00:14:23.16 our hope, 00:14:23.19\00:14:24.53 our encouragement is in the death 00:14:24.56\00:14:27.20 and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:14:27.23\00:14:31.40 He is our vindication from Satan's accusation 00:14:31.43\00:14:34.70 and condemnation. 00:14:34.74\00:14:36.50 He purchased us by His own blood. 00:14:36.54\00:14:42.04 And hallelujah, 00:14:42.08\00:14:43.41 this was predicted in Isaiah 50. 00:14:43.45\00:14:45.58 So let's look at verses 10 and 11, 00:14:45.61\00:14:50.02 which says, 00:14:50.05\00:14:51.85 "Who among you fears the Lord? 00:14:51.89\00:14:53.25 Who obeys the voice of His Servant? 00:14:53.29\00:14:55.32 Who walks in darkness and has no light? 00:14:55.36\00:14:57.56 Let him trust in the name of the Lord 00:14:57.59\00:14:59.66 and rely upon his God." 00:14:59.69\00:15:02.73 This is a call to the unconverted 00:15:02.76\00:15:05.37 who are walking in the darkness of sin 00:15:05.40\00:15:08.14 and it's God's call to you today. 00:15:08.17\00:15:10.64 Believe and be saved. 00:15:10.67\00:15:13.04 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:19:44.25\00:19:45.95 Now, let's go to Matthew 3:12-16, 00:19:45.98\00:19:49.15 because Matthew says these same words. 00:19:49.18\00:19:53.46 Let's go to Matthew Chapter 3, 00:19:53.49\00:19:54.82 as you can see that 00:19:54.86\00:19:56.19 Jesus fulfilled all of these things. 00:19:56.22\00:19:59.29 Matthew 3:12, "Now when Jesus heard that 00:19:59.33\00:20:02.90 John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee." 00:20:02.93\00:20:06.20 Verse 13, "And leaving Nazareth, 00:20:06.23\00:20:08.17 He came and dwelt in Capernaum, 00:20:08.20\00:20:10.57 which is by the sea," notice, 00:20:10.61\00:20:12.37 "in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, 00:20:12.41\00:20:15.38 that it might be fulfilled 00:20:15.41\00:20:16.98 which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:' 00:20:17.01\00:20:21.08 The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, 00:20:21.12\00:20:24.45 by the way of the sea, 00:20:24.49\00:20:25.92 the sea beyond the Jordan, 00:20:25.95\00:20:28.09 Galilee of the Gentiles: The people who sat in darkness 00:20:28.12\00:20:31.36 have seen a great light, 00:20:31.39\00:20:33.40 and upon those who sat in the region and shadow 00:20:33.43\00:20:35.93 of death light has dawned.'" 00:20:35.96\00:20:38.53 This was prophesied and fulfilled by Jesus Christ. 00:20:38.57\00:20:43.67 In Isaiah, you also see that 00:20:43.71\00:20:46.68 it speaks of his restoration for Israel. 00:20:46.71\00:20:51.98 Let's go to Isaiah Chapter 11. 00:20:52.01\00:20:54.58 Let's read quickly verses 1 through 4. 00:20:54.62\00:20:57.29 Isaiah 11:1-4, 00:20:57.32\00:21:00.16 "There shall come forth a Rod 00:21:00.19\00:21:02.42 from the stem of Jesse, 00:21:02.46\00:21:03.79 and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. 00:21:03.83\00:21:07.43 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, 00:21:07.46\00:21:10.17 the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, 00:21:10.20\00:21:12.93 the Spirit of counsel and might, 00:21:12.97\00:21:14.90 the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. 00:21:14.94\00:21:18.44 His delight is in the fear of the Lord, 00:21:18.47\00:21:21.74 and He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, 00:21:21.78\00:21:24.25 nor decide by the hearing of His ears. 00:21:24.28\00:21:27.02 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, 00:21:27.05\00:21:29.98 and decide with equity for the meek of the earth, 00:21:30.02\00:21:32.89 He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, 00:21:32.92\00:21:35.39 and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked." 00:21:35.42\00:21:38.69 Again, a prophecy concerning Jesus, 00:21:38.73\00:21:41.56 preparing you for the time 00:21:41.60\00:21:43.70 when you get to Isaiah Chapter 52, 00:21:43.73\00:21:46.80 when it speaks of the suffering servant. 00:21:46.84\00:21:49.97 Now, it's interesting to me, 00:21:50.01\00:21:51.47 when you look at all this that God was way, way back, 00:21:51.51\00:21:56.14 even from the time of Moses, 00:21:56.18\00:22:00.05 trying to help the people 00:22:00.08\00:22:01.52 understand of the suffering servant. 00:22:01.55\00:22:04.65 Whenever they would bring a sacrifice, 00:22:04.69\00:22:06.82 whenever they will bring a lamb, 00:22:06.86\00:22:08.96 the lamb would have to suffer and die for their sins. 00:22:08.99\00:22:12.99 So this message is carried on over and over again. 00:22:13.03\00:22:17.03 And they saw a vivid representation of this. 00:22:17.07\00:22:20.24 And, of course, let's go now to Isaiah 42. 00:22:20.27\00:22:24.54 I cannot read verses 1 through 7. 00:22:24.57\00:22:26.44 I'm only going to read verses 1 through 4 00:22:26.47\00:22:28.21 because of lack of time. 00:22:28.24\00:22:29.58 It speaks of His quiet ministry 00:22:29.61\00:22:32.31 and liberation from injustice and suffering. 00:22:32.35\00:22:35.18 Isaiah 42:1-4. 00:22:35.22\00:22:38.75 But you should continue reading 00:22:38.79\00:22:40.66 after that in your personal study. 00:22:40.69\00:22:42.02 "Behold! 00:22:42.06\00:22:43.39 My Servant whom I uphold, 00:22:43.43\00:22:45.16 my Elect One in whom My soul delights! 00:22:45.19\00:22:48.23 I have put My Spirit upon Him, 00:22:48.26\00:22:50.83 He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. 00:22:50.87\00:22:54.04 He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, 00:22:54.07\00:22:57.71 nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. 00:22:57.74\00:22:59.97 A bruised reed He will not break, 00:23:00.01\00:23:02.54 and smoking flax He will not quench, 00:23:02.58\00:23:05.28 He will bring forth justice for truth. 00:23:05.31\00:23:08.65 He will not fail nor be discouraged, 00:23:08.68\00:23:10.85 till He has established justice in the earth, 00:23:10.89\00:23:14.09 and the coastlands shall wait for His law." 00:23:14.12\00:23:16.73 Amen. 00:23:16.76\00:23:18.09 Marvelous scripture that 00:23:18.13\00:23:19.46 we see presented here in Isaiah 42. 00:23:19.49\00:23:22.36 Again, preparing, 00:23:22.40\00:23:23.73 you're talking about this God's servant, 00:23:23.77\00:23:26.13 and when it says, 00:23:26.17\00:23:27.64 "My servant in whom My soul delights." 00:23:27.67\00:23:30.01 It really is talking about that 00:23:30.04\00:23:32.57 Jesus would be faithful till the very end. 00:23:32.61\00:23:37.41 My servant in whom My soul delight. 00:23:37.45\00:23:40.55 You may remember that when Jesus was baptized, 00:23:40.58\00:23:43.79 the Father could not 00:23:43.82\00:23:45.15 withhold proclaiming His pleasure over His Son. 00:23:45.19\00:23:49.39 Let's go to Matthew 3:16-17. 00:23:49.42\00:23:52.76 And I think my time will end with this. 00:23:52.79\00:23:54.86 "When He had been baptized, 00:23:54.90\00:23:57.53 Jesus came up immediately from the water, and behold, 00:23:57.57\00:24:01.24 the heavens were opened to Him, 00:24:01.27\00:24:03.94 and He saw the Spirit of God 00:24:03.97\00:24:05.34 descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 00:24:05.37\00:24:08.74 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, 00:24:08.78\00:24:12.81 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'" 00:24:12.85\00:24:18.82 So we see here that 00:24:18.85\00:24:20.19 this servant of the Lord in whom He is well pleased. 00:24:20.22\00:24:23.69 Why is He well pleased? 00:24:23.73\00:24:25.19 Because His servant, Jesus Christ, 00:24:25.23\00:24:28.86 in whom His soul delights 00:24:28.90\00:24:30.77 was faithful 00:24:30.80\00:24:32.17 from the beginning until the end. 00:24:32.20\00:24:34.64 And so, I want to encourage you to consider 00:24:34.67\00:24:38.07 what's coming after me 00:24:38.11\00:24:39.44 because we are just laying the groundwork for the message 00:24:39.47\00:24:43.14 that is contained in this suffering servant, 00:24:43.18\00:24:47.68 and this is who Jesus is. 00:24:47.72\00:24:49.98 He suffered for each and every single one of us 00:24:50.02\00:24:53.46 and every suffering, 00:24:53.49\00:24:55.46 every moment that He endured this suffering 00:24:55.49\00:24:57.83 brought you and me closer to salvation. 00:24:57.86\00:25:02.53 And I praise the Lord that He endured till the end. 00:25:02.56\00:25:06.30 He was faithful until the end, 00:25:06.33\00:25:08.47 to leave us an example that you and I 00:25:08.50\00:25:11.07 should follow that we, 00:25:11.11\00:25:12.94 by God's grace should be faithful to the end, 00:25:12.97\00:25:16.14 allowing Jesus to be in our hearts, 00:25:16.18\00:25:18.21 we shall be faithful. 00:25:18.25\00:25:19.58 Amen and amen. Thank you. 00:26:07.70\00:26:10.73 It is entitled, "Who Has Believed?" 00:26:10.77\00:26:13.70 A belief is the conjunction between being lost 00:26:13.74\00:26:18.84 and being saved. 00:26:18.87\00:26:20.21 So that's a very powerful question, 00:26:20.24\00:26:21.58 who has believed. 00:26:21.61\00:26:23.51 In Isaiah 52:13 all the way to Isaiah 53:12 now. 00:26:23.55\00:26:29.15 By no means am I going to cover all of that. 00:26:29.18\00:26:31.55 But I am surely going to stay along the lines 00:26:31.59\00:26:33.49 of the question that is asked, 00:26:33.52\00:26:35.26 who has believed? 00:26:35.29\00:26:37.06 Now, when we look at the broad picture 00:26:37.09\00:26:38.93 of who has believed, 00:26:38.96\00:26:40.30 it not only takes into consideration 00:26:40.33\00:26:42.46 the message that a person is proclaiming, 00:26:42.50\00:26:45.43 but the appearance of the person 00:26:45.47\00:26:47.44 that is proclaiming the message. 00:26:47.47\00:26:49.20 One of the difficulties in presenting the message 00:26:49.24\00:26:51.34 in John the Baptist's day is people were looking 00:26:51.37\00:26:54.21 for somebody that didn't look like Him. 00:26:54.24\00:26:56.75 One of the challenges Jesus had was people 00:26:56.78\00:26:58.71 were looking for somebody that didn't look like Him. 00:26:58.75\00:27:01.28 And what we have to keep in mind, 00:27:01.32\00:27:02.65 we'll see the principles brought out here 00:27:02.68\00:27:04.62 in this lesson about who has believed. 00:27:04.65\00:27:06.92 Let's begin with Isaiah 52:13. 00:27:06.96\00:27:10.73 The writer points out something beautifully. 00:27:10.76\00:27:13.76 Bible says, "Behold, 00:27:13.80\00:27:15.13 My Servant shall deal prudently, 00:27:15.16\00:27:18.07 He shall be exalted and extolled 00:27:18.10\00:27:20.17 and be very, very high." 00:27:20.20\00:27:23.17 Now, this exaltation that has been talked 00:27:23.20\00:27:24.94 about here is one 00:27:24.97\00:27:26.68 that the servant doesn't impose upon Himself, 00:27:26.71\00:27:30.98 but that the one who is appointing the servant, 00:27:31.01\00:27:34.95 grants to the servant. 00:27:34.98\00:27:37.15 Why am I saying that, is because a lot of times, 00:27:37.19\00:27:39.89 we could try to qualify ourselves 00:27:39.92\00:27:41.52 by making ourselves look qualified. 00:27:41.56\00:27:44.26 But the qualification comes not in external appearances, 00:27:44.29\00:27:47.33 but in internal fitness. 00:27:47.36\00:27:49.30 So it's vitally important because Isaiah 52:13, 00:27:49.33\00:27:52.93 all of a sudden transitions into the picture 00:27:52.97\00:27:55.30 that really tells a broader story 00:27:55.34\00:27:57.87 about the servant that Isaiah is referring to. 00:27:57.91\00:28:00.48 And the servant he is talking to is Christ. 00:28:00.51\00:28:02.78 Notice what it says in verse 3. 00:28:02.81\00:28:05.51 Verse 3, Isaiah 52 and verse... 00:28:05.55\00:28:10.05 Actually, Isaiah 52:13. 00:28:10.09\00:28:12.32 That's what I'm going on next. 00:28:12.35\00:28:14.72 Verse 14, actually, 00:28:14.76\00:28:17.16 "Just as many were astonished at you, 00:28:17.19\00:28:20.66 so His visage was marred more than any man, 00:28:20.70\00:28:24.73 and His form more than the sons of men." 00:28:24.77\00:28:28.90 In other words, according to this text, 00:28:28.94\00:28:31.64 He was so disfigured that 00:28:31.67\00:28:33.17 He didn't really look to be qualified 00:28:33.21\00:28:36.18 to even fit in the category of the sons of men. 00:28:36.21\00:28:39.01 When the Pharisees 00:28:39.05\00:28:40.38 and the leaders of Christ's day saw Him, 00:28:40.42\00:28:42.88 they marveled at Him 00:28:42.92\00:28:44.39 because He didn't look as student 00:28:44.42\00:28:46.45 as astound as they did, with their glorious robes, 00:28:46.49\00:28:49.99 their ecclesiastical robes that is rubbing the ground 00:28:50.03\00:28:54.20 and skirting the ground. 00:28:54.23\00:28:55.96 Jesus came looking humbly. 00:28:56.00\00:28:58.43 He didn't come riding on a white steed 00:28:58.47\00:29:01.07 into Jerusalem, He came on a burro, donkey, 00:29:01.10\00:29:04.61 a humble instrument. 00:29:04.64\00:29:05.97 His coming into the world was not something 00:29:06.01\00:29:09.18 that was proclaimed from the highest mountain, 00:29:09.21\00:29:10.75 but over the braying of a donkey 00:29:10.78\00:29:13.28 and a cow and some sheep. 00:29:13.31\00:29:15.72 So we see the humility of Christ was, in fact, 00:29:15.75\00:29:18.45 the thing that caused Him to be more qualified 00:29:18.49\00:29:22.02 as a servant 00:29:22.06\00:29:23.39 than one that might just look the part. 00:29:23.43\00:29:25.66 The New Testament describes the factors 00:29:25.69\00:29:27.36 that marred Christ in His appearance, 00:29:27.40\00:29:29.80 including scourging of the crown of thorns, 00:29:29.83\00:29:33.10 the crucifixion, but above all, 00:29:33.13\00:29:35.14 bearing the sins of the human race. 00:29:35.17\00:29:37.74 And sin was never intended to be natural for humans, 00:29:37.77\00:29:42.84 but bearing it made the Son of Man 00:29:42.88\00:29:45.68 as it were to appear to be inhumane. 00:29:45.71\00:29:48.38 Now just follow that very carefully. 00:29:48.42\00:29:50.89 It was never intended by God for sin 00:29:50.92\00:29:52.85 to become a natural tendency to humanity. 00:29:52.89\00:29:54.96 But all of a sudden, 00:29:54.99\00:29:56.32 Jesus becomes the one who decides to bear our sins 00:29:56.36\00:29:59.23 and then He's looked upon as undesirable, 00:29:59.26\00:30:02.20 and in some cases, inhumane. 00:30:02.23\00:30:04.77 Look at Isaiah 53:5. 00:30:04.80\00:30:07.17 The Bible talks about 00:30:07.20\00:30:08.80 why He bore our sins 00:30:08.84\00:30:10.47 and exactly what happened as a result. 00:30:10.51\00:30:13.44 But He was wounded for our transgression. 00:30:13.48\00:30:17.21 And I want to add a little pin here, 00:30:17.25\00:30:18.81 not just for what the Jews did, 00:30:18.85\00:30:20.88 not just for what the Romans did, 00:30:20.92\00:30:22.95 because we can easily direct our anger toward them 00:30:22.98\00:30:25.72 and say, "Why would they do that?" 00:30:25.75\00:30:27.26 But He was wounded for our transgression. 00:30:27.29\00:30:29.49 He was bruised for our iniquity, 00:30:29.52\00:30:31.99 the chastisement of our peace, 00:30:32.03\00:30:34.56 meaning the cost of our peace was upon Him. 00:30:34.60\00:30:37.33 And by His stripes, we, 00:30:37.37\00:30:40.07 notice the concert, all of us, 00:30:40.10\00:30:42.80 our, our, our, we, but notice the qualifications. 00:30:42.84\00:30:46.84 Because once again, 00:30:46.88\00:30:48.21 I say exaltation is not based on 00:30:48.24\00:30:50.08 external qualifications, but internal fitness. 00:30:50.11\00:30:53.01 Let's go to 1 Samuel 16:7. 00:30:53.05\00:30:55.95 Let's see this point played out vividly. 00:30:55.98\00:30:58.89 1 Samuel 16:7, the Bible says, 00:30:58.92\00:31:03.32 "But the Lord said to Samuel, 00:31:03.36\00:31:05.79 'Do not look at his appearance 00:31:05.83\00:31:09.26 or at his physical stature, 00:31:09.30\00:31:12.87 because I have refused him. 00:31:12.90\00:31:15.30 For the Lord does not see as man sees, 00:31:15.34\00:31:18.37 for man looks at, " what? 00:31:18.41\00:31:21.21 "The outward appearance, 00:31:21.24\00:31:22.84 but the Lord looks at the heart.'" 00:31:22.88\00:31:26.08 That's vitally important to remember 00:31:26.11\00:31:27.45 because a lot of times 00:31:27.48\00:31:30.62 I've been in situations where people... 00:31:30.65\00:31:32.75 I'll tell you very, very quick story, 00:31:32.79\00:31:35.26 just came to my mind. 00:31:35.29\00:31:36.62 My wife would be thinking the same way. 00:31:36.66\00:31:38.49 When I was pastoring in Northern California, 00:31:38.53\00:31:40.00 in a church in Antioch, 00:31:40.03\00:31:41.36 I'll be specific about the church 00:31:41.40\00:31:43.06 because it's not a bad story. 00:31:43.10\00:31:45.20 We were having a cleanup Sunday. 00:31:45.23\00:31:47.44 And I had a tall stately head elder, 00:31:47.47\00:31:50.04 tall, Caucasian gentleman, 00:31:50.07\00:31:51.41 he was just symmetrically perfect. 00:31:51.44\00:31:53.51 And he was in the medical field. 00:31:53.54\00:31:55.08 And he always looked the medical part. 00:31:55.11\00:31:57.61 Well, we were cleaning the church on Sunday. 00:31:57.65\00:31:59.25 And, Ryan, I had on my baseball cap, 00:31:59.28\00:32:01.32 my Nix jacket, my jeans, 00:32:01.35\00:32:04.02 and I just looked like 00:32:04.05\00:32:05.39 I was up there to play basketball. 00:32:05.42\00:32:06.86 Well, someone came up 00:32:06.89\00:32:08.22 to the church parking lot to ask, 00:32:08.26\00:32:10.03 they were looking for, you know, 00:32:10.06\00:32:11.39 when people in the church's parking lot, 00:32:11.43\00:32:12.76 somebody always has the need. 00:32:12.79\00:32:14.23 So somebody pointed them in the general direction 00:32:14.26\00:32:17.87 as I was talking to my head elder. 00:32:17.90\00:32:19.60 They said, "Well, go ask him, the pastor's over there." 00:32:19.63\00:32:21.20 Well, they went over 00:32:21.24\00:32:22.57 and they started talking to him. 00:32:22.60\00:32:24.47 And I would have paid really good money 00:32:24.51\00:32:26.71 to get the video 00:32:26.74\00:32:28.08 after that lady was told I was the pastor. 00:32:28.11\00:32:30.71 He said, and he said, as he did it, he said, 00:32:30.75\00:32:33.08 "I'm not the pastor, he is." 00:32:33.11\00:32:35.95 And that she couldn't negotiate that respect way she went. 00:32:35.98\00:32:38.95 And it was like, I didn't look the part. 00:32:41.99\00:32:44.56 I didn't look the part. 00:32:44.59\00:32:45.93 But once again, God does not look out 00:32:45.96\00:32:47.63 the outward appearance, 00:32:47.66\00:32:49.10 but the Lord looks at the heart. 00:32:49.13\00:32:50.53 And he and I, we had so many conversations 00:32:50.57\00:32:52.53 about that instance. 00:32:52.57\00:32:53.94 And even to this very day, 00:32:53.97\00:32:55.30 I think he just turned 90 00:32:55.34\00:32:56.67 and he still looks like he's in maybe in his early 70s. 00:32:56.71\00:32:59.61 Sharp and a man of great stature, 00:32:59.64\00:33:02.38 such is the case 00:33:02.41\00:33:03.75 when it comes to serving the Lord. 00:33:03.78\00:33:05.15 The Lord has not picked people who looked the part. 00:33:05.18\00:33:08.35 He first begins at the heart. 00:33:08.38\00:33:10.59 Look at Deuteronomy 7:7. 00:33:10.62\00:33:12.09 Such was the case 00:33:12.12\00:33:13.46 when it came to choosing Israel. 00:33:13.49\00:33:14.89 Many of them boasted about their national origin. 00:33:14.92\00:33:16.79 But the Lord said, "Wait a minute, 00:33:16.83\00:33:18.16 that's not why I chose you." 00:33:18.19\00:33:19.89 Deuteronomy 7:7. 00:33:19.93\00:33:22.00 It says, "The Lord did not set His love 00:33:22.03\00:33:23.83 on you nor choose you 00:33:23.87\00:33:25.23 because you were more 00:33:25.27\00:33:26.60 in number than any other people, 00:33:26.63\00:33:28.44 for you were the least of all peoples." 00:33:28.47\00:33:33.54 So when God chooses, 00:33:33.58\00:33:35.24 He doesn't choose a man 00:33:35.28\00:33:36.98 who has the external qualifications. 00:33:37.01\00:33:39.91 He chooses people based on the mission. 00:33:39.95\00:33:42.42 And I say that's vitally important 00:33:42.45\00:33:43.85 because when the post office delivers the mail, 00:33:43.89\00:33:46.69 or when the FedEx person comes or UPS, 00:33:46.72\00:33:49.29 I always ask myself, 00:33:49.32\00:33:50.66 what's the difference between him and me? 00:33:50.69\00:33:52.69 Well, the only difference is his uniform and his mission. 00:33:52.73\00:33:55.43 And in the very same way, 00:33:55.46\00:33:56.80 we don't look different from other people in the world. 00:33:56.83\00:33:59.43 But we have to remember that 00:33:59.47\00:34:00.80 God has chosen us for a special purpose, 00:34:00.84\00:34:03.17 to proclaim the praises of Him 00:34:03.20\00:34:05.54 who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. 00:34:05.57\00:34:08.14 So rather than leaning on our qualifications 00:34:08.18\00:34:10.18 as the Seventh-day Adventist Christian, 00:34:10.21\00:34:11.78 we've got to live the part. 00:34:11.81\00:34:13.15 Amen? Amen. 00:34:13.18\00:34:14.52 We've got to not just lean on the name. 00:34:14.55\00:34:15.98 But we have to be in harmony with that qualification 00:34:16.02\00:34:18.62 based on how we live, 00:34:18.65\00:34:20.32 because the Bible talks about 00:34:20.36\00:34:21.69 Job in the very same way. 00:34:21.72\00:34:23.06 Job 1:1, let's look at that, because his friends once again 00:34:23.09\00:34:26.49 couldn't associate his externals 00:34:26.53\00:34:28.63 with his internal fitness. 00:34:28.66\00:34:30.40 "There was a man in the land of Uz, 00:34:30.43\00:34:31.77 whose name was Job, 00:34:31.80\00:34:33.17 and that man was blameless and upright, 00:34:33.20\00:34:35.64 and one who feared God and shunned evil." 00:34:35.67\00:34:37.71 And then the Bible says in verse 8, 00:34:37.74\00:34:39.07 "Then the Lord said to Satan, 00:34:39.11\00:34:40.68 'Have you considered My servant Job, 00:34:40.71\00:34:42.24 there is none like him on the earth, 00:34:42.28\00:34:43.95 a blameless and upright man, 00:34:43.98\00:34:45.38 one who fears God and shuns evil?'" 00:34:45.41\00:34:47.42 And when the Lord gave Satan permission, 00:34:47.45\00:34:51.19 Lord have mercy. 00:34:51.22\00:34:53.22 When the Lord gave Satan permission 00:34:53.25\00:34:54.89 to touch everything he had, as was the case with Peter, 00:34:54.92\00:34:58.26 he desired to sift him as wheat. 00:34:58.29\00:35:00.40 Then all of a sudden, 00:35:00.43\00:35:01.80 his friends could not even negotiate 00:35:01.83\00:35:04.50 that his external quality, that his external disfigurement 00:35:04.53\00:35:08.90 did not remove his internal qualifications. 00:35:08.94\00:35:11.61 Job 2:12, the Bible says, 00:35:11.64\00:35:13.58 "And when they raised their eyes from afar, 00:35:13.61\00:35:15.98 and did not recognize him, 00:35:16.01\00:35:18.38 they lifted their voices and wept, 00:35:18.41\00:35:21.12 and each one tore his robe 00:35:21.15\00:35:22.48 and sprinkled dust on his head toward heaven." 00:35:22.52\00:35:25.72 But now let's see what the Bible says. 00:35:25.75\00:35:27.72 What are the parameters of choosing the authors? 00:35:27.76\00:35:30.09 Matthew 19:30, 00:35:30.13\00:35:32.56 "But many who are first will be last 00:35:32.59\00:35:34.93 and the last will be first." 00:35:34.96\00:35:37.10 What about service? 00:35:37.13\00:35:38.47 Matthew 20:27, 00:35:38.50\00:35:40.04 "And whoever desires to be first among you, 00:35:40.07\00:35:42.60 let him be your slave." 00:35:42.64\00:35:45.34 Let him be a servant. 00:35:45.37\00:35:46.78 Proverbs 22:4, "By humility 00:35:46.81\00:35:50.48 and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life." 00:35:50.51\00:35:54.85 So remember, when God calls you to be a servant, 00:35:54.88\00:35:57.95 don't forget to live externally as you should be. 00:35:57.99\00:36:00.66 But don't forget, God first sees 00:36:00.69\00:36:02.36 the qualification of your heart. 00:36:02.39\00:36:04.39 Amen. Thank you. 00:36:04.43\00:36:05.76 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:36:05.79\00:36:07.13 Thank you, Pastor. 00:36:07.16\00:36:08.50 Appreciate that set up very nicely. 00:36:08.53\00:36:11.87 We'll see if I can get through this lesson. 00:36:11.90\00:36:14.47 Just because it's covering one of the... 00:36:14.50\00:36:18.81 Probably in my opinion, 00:36:18.84\00:36:20.58 one of the most humbling texts in all of Scripture. 00:36:20.61\00:36:24.35 I don't think a person in their right mind 00:36:24.38\00:36:26.95 could read through Isaiah 53 00:36:26.98\00:36:31.49 and not be humbled, 00:36:31.52\00:36:33.09 and not be pricked at the heart. 00:36:33.12\00:36:35.62 And so lesson 10, Wednesday's lesson is entitled, 00:36:35.66\00:36:39.53 "The Unreachable Is Us!" 00:36:39.56\00:36:42.53 That is a statement of the century. 00:36:42.56\00:36:45.07 He did it to reach the unreachable. 00:36:45.10\00:36:47.90 And that unreachable is us. 00:36:47.94\00:36:49.70 I want to start with Isaiah Chapter 53. 00:36:49.74\00:36:51.87 The lesson, Wednesday's lesson 00:36:51.91\00:36:53.94 is just focusing on Isaiah 53:3-9. 00:36:53.98\00:36:58.55 And so I'm going to start in verse 3 here. 00:36:58.58\00:37:00.05 The Bible says, speaking, of course of Christ, 00:37:00.08\00:37:02.68 this is all the experience of Jesus Christ. 00:37:02.72\00:37:05.85 "He is despised and rejected by men, 00:37:05.89\00:37:10.46 a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. 00:37:10.49\00:37:14.23 And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him, 00:37:14.26\00:37:20.17 He was despised, and we did not esteem Him." 00:37:20.20\00:37:25.97 And here in a moment, we're going to read 00:37:26.01\00:37:28.21 where it says that He did not open His mouth. 00:37:28.24\00:37:32.78 But yet, that doesn't mean He didn't think any thoughts. 00:37:32.81\00:37:35.68 And we know on the cross, 00:37:35.72\00:37:37.05 He did literally open His mouth and say a few things. 00:37:37.09\00:37:39.15 But nonetheless, 00:37:39.19\00:37:40.52 it's speaking of in just a moment, 00:37:40.56\00:37:41.89 as we talk about Him 00:37:41.92\00:37:43.26 not opening His mouth in reference to Isaiah 53. 00:37:43.29\00:37:45.93 It's talking about that He didn't speak against anyone. 00:37:45.96\00:37:47.93 He didn't, you know, raise any concern or say, 00:37:47.96\00:37:50.63 I don't want to go through this, 00:37:50.67\00:37:52.00 or I don't want to do that. 00:37:52.03\00:37:53.37 He simply went through 00:37:53.40\00:37:54.74 it as a lamb led to the slaughter 00:37:54.77\00:37:56.10 as we're about to read. 00:37:56.14\00:37:57.47 But it's interesting if you really want to know 00:37:57.51\00:37:58.84 what's going through the mind of Christ, 00:37:58.87\00:38:00.21 in reference to how He was despised by men 00:38:00.24\00:38:02.21 and rejected by men. 00:38:02.24\00:38:03.58 Let's go to Psalm 22. 00:38:03.61\00:38:04.95 This is probably 00:38:04.98\00:38:06.31 one of the most powerful passages 00:38:06.35\00:38:09.12 because this text helps us 00:38:09.15\00:38:11.52 to get into the mind of Christ 00:38:11.55\00:38:13.56 as He's going through this cross experience. 00:38:13.59\00:38:17.29 Psalm 22, and I want to 00:38:17.33\00:38:18.66 just start reading there in verses 6 00:38:18.69\00:38:20.43 and we'll read to verse 8 there. 00:38:20.46\00:38:22.13 Psalm 22, beginning with verse 6, 00:38:22.16\00:38:23.53 it says, "But I am a worm, and no man." 00:38:23.57\00:38:26.63 What? 00:38:26.67\00:38:28.44 What Jesus, what did You just say? 00:38:28.47\00:38:30.21 I'm a worm, and no man. 00:38:30.24\00:38:31.57 Now get this, this is the same Jesus that just a few hours 00:38:31.61\00:38:34.74 before in the Garden of Gethsemane 00:38:34.78\00:38:36.95 is praying to the Father and glorifying the Father, 00:38:36.98\00:38:39.55 because He recognizes that He is the called Son of God, 00:38:39.58\00:38:42.58 the Son of the Most High, but now hanging on a cross, 00:38:42.62\00:38:45.05 being despised by men, having been beat, 00:38:45.09\00:38:47.09 having shed the blood and about to give up His life. 00:38:47.12\00:38:49.22 He says, "I am a worm, and no man, a reproach of men, 00:38:49.26\00:38:53.06 and despised by the people. 00:38:53.09\00:38:55.13 All those who see Me ridicule Me, 00:38:55.16\00:38:57.50 they shoot out the lip, 00:38:57.53\00:38:59.20 they shake the head, saying, 'He trusted in the Lord, 00:38:59.23\00:39:02.40 let Him rescue Him, let Him deliver Him, 00:39:02.44\00:39:05.41 since He delights in Him!'" 00:39:05.44\00:39:07.48 A mockery of the Son of God, but yet He did it, 00:39:07.51\00:39:11.28 to reach the unreachable. 00:39:11.31\00:39:12.95 And the unreachable is us. 00:39:12.98\00:39:15.08 Let's go back to Isaiah 53:4 and onward. 00:39:15.12\00:39:19.12 It says, "Surely He has borne our griefs 00:39:19.15\00:39:21.96 and carried our sorrows, 00:39:21.99\00:39:24.26 yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, 00:39:24.29\00:39:27.46 and afflicted. 00:39:27.50\00:39:29.46 But He was wounded for our transgressions, 00:39:29.50\00:39:32.20 He was bruised for our iniquities, 00:39:32.23\00:39:34.94 the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, 00:39:34.97\00:39:38.51 and by His stripes we are healed." 00:39:38.54\00:39:42.81 Back to Psalm 22. 00:39:42.84\00:39:44.25 Again, going through the mind of Christ, 00:39:44.28\00:39:46.28 as He's experiencing this agony 00:39:46.31\00:39:48.95 and this treacherous experience that He's going through for us, 00:39:48.98\00:39:52.35 because we despised Him, 00:39:52.39\00:39:54.06 because we mocked Him, 00:39:54.09\00:39:55.46 because we see Him afflicted by God. 00:39:55.49\00:39:58.26 Notice Isaiah, this is Psalm 22:11-18. 00:39:58.29\00:40:02.43 Jesus says here, of course, "Be not far from Me, 00:40:02.46\00:40:06.17 for trouble is near, for there is no, none to help. 00:40:06.20\00:40:09.97 Many bulls have surrounded Me, 00:40:10.01\00:40:11.34 strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me. 00:40:11.37\00:40:14.34 They gape at Me with their mouths, 00:40:14.38\00:40:15.71 like a raging and roaring lion. 00:40:15.74\00:40:17.51 I am poured out like water, 00:40:17.55\00:40:18.91 and all My bones are out of joint, 00:40:18.95\00:40:21.25 My heart is like wax, it has melted within Me. 00:40:21.28\00:40:26.19 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, 00:40:26.22\00:40:28.22 and My tongue clings to My jaws, 00:40:28.26\00:40:31.06 You have brought Me to the dust of death. 00:40:31.09\00:40:34.66 For dogs have surrounded Me, 00:40:34.70\00:40:36.03 the congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. 00:40:36.06\00:40:38.67 They pierced My hands and My feet, 00:40:38.70\00:40:41.40 I can count all My bones. 00:40:41.44\00:40:43.34 They look and stare at Me. 00:40:43.37\00:40:45.01 They divide My garments among them, 00:40:45.04\00:40:47.94 and for My clothing they cast lots." 00:40:47.98\00:40:50.61 Again, he was bruised for our iniquities, 00:40:50.65\00:40:54.15 the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, 00:40:54.18\00:40:57.39 by His stripes we are healed. 00:40:57.42\00:40:59.49 We're not even worthy. 00:40:59.52\00:41:00.89 We don't deserve this love. 00:41:00.92\00:41:02.59 And it's amazing to read these words, 00:41:02.62\00:41:04.83 because you can't help but just be humbled of the fact 00:41:04.86\00:41:07.53 to know that 00:41:07.56\00:41:08.90 that should have been us, that should have been me. 00:41:08.93\00:41:10.73 In fact, another passage that comes to my mind 00:41:10.77\00:41:12.53 as I'm reading this, that, 00:41:12.57\00:41:14.10 that it's my sins that nailed Jesus to a cross. 00:41:14.14\00:41:17.81 I think of Zechariah 12:10-11. 00:41:17.84\00:41:20.34 It's kind of a prophecy, actually. 00:41:20.38\00:41:22.31 And it actually says here, 00:41:22.34\00:41:23.68 "And I will pour out upon the house of David 00:41:23.71\00:41:25.05 and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem 00:41:25.08\00:41:26.82 the Spirit of grace and supplication, 00:41:26.85\00:41:29.08 then they will look upon Me whom they have pierced. 00:41:29.12\00:41:31.42 Yes, they will mourn for Him as one who mourns his only son, 00:41:31.45\00:41:35.22 and grieve for Him as one who grieves for a firstborn. 00:41:35.26\00:41:39.23 In that day there shall be a great mourning." 00:41:39.26\00:41:42.76 Why are we mourning? 00:41:42.80\00:41:44.13 Why do those who appear 00:41:44.17\00:41:45.50 and look upon the cross 00:41:45.53\00:41:47.00 at the hanging savior of the universe dead, 00:41:47.04\00:41:49.90 martyred for the sins of the world 00:41:49.94\00:41:51.74 because it was our sins that nailed Him there. 00:41:51.77\00:41:53.68 And why did He do it? 00:41:53.71\00:41:55.04 He did it to reach the unreachable. 00:41:55.08\00:41:57.41 And the unreachable is us. 00:41:57.45\00:42:00.78 Isaiah 53:6, "All we like sheep have gone astray, 00:42:00.82\00:42:05.69 we have turned, every one, to his own way, 00:42:05.72\00:42:09.96 and the Lord again has laid on Him 00:42:09.99\00:42:12.76 the iniquity of us all." 00:42:12.79\00:42:14.56 We like sheep have gone astray. 00:42:14.60\00:42:16.46 You know, a sheep without a shepherd 00:42:16.50\00:42:18.13 is going to go astray. 00:42:18.17\00:42:19.50 Take your eyes off the shepherd, 00:42:19.53\00:42:20.97 you're going to go your own way in a direction 00:42:21.00\00:42:23.24 that's not meant for you to go. 00:42:23.27\00:42:24.77 I think of that scripture in Proverbs 14:12, 00:42:24.81\00:42:27.48 "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, 00:42:27.51\00:42:29.54 but the end thereof are the ways of death." 00:42:29.58\00:42:32.21 We walk our own way, and Jesus paid the death 00:42:32.25\00:42:34.68 for us walking our own way. 00:42:34.72\00:42:36.38 That's powerful. 00:42:36.42\00:42:37.89 That Jesus' love is poured out 00:42:37.92\00:42:39.45 upon the cross for the unreachable. 00:42:39.49\00:42:43.02 And the unreachable is us. 00:42:43.06\00:42:45.69 2 Corinthians 5:21. What does it say there? 00:42:45.73\00:42:48.03 And we just read it in Isaiah 53:6, 00:42:48.06\00:42:50.63 "All we like sheep have gone astray, 00:42:50.67\00:42:52.07 we've turned everyone our own way, 00:42:52.10\00:42:53.60 and the Lord has laid upon Him the iniquity of us all." 00:42:53.64\00:42:56.67 I think of 2 Corinthians 5:21, 00:42:56.71\00:42:58.51 "For He made Him 00:42:58.54\00:42:59.87 who knew no sin to be sin for us, 00:42:59.91\00:43:01.38 that we might become 00:43:01.41\00:43:02.74 the righteousness of God in Him." 00:43:02.78\00:43:04.81 How's that fair? 00:43:04.85\00:43:07.02 How is that fair, 00:43:07.05\00:43:08.72 that someone should die for my sins 00:43:08.75\00:43:10.29 or someone should die for your sins? 00:43:10.32\00:43:12.72 It simply isn't. 00:43:12.75\00:43:14.42 But the love of God goes far and beyond 00:43:14.46\00:43:17.83 whether something's fair or not, 00:43:17.86\00:43:19.19 He did it because He loved us. 00:43:19.23\00:43:20.56 He did it because He wanted to reach 00:43:20.60\00:43:22.06 the unreachable, and the unreachable is us. 00:43:22.10\00:43:25.17 Isaiah 53:7, "He was oppressed and He was afflicted, 00:43:25.20\00:43:29.87 yet He opened not His mouth, 00:43:29.90\00:43:31.24 and He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, 00:43:31.27\00:43:33.38 and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, 00:43:33.41\00:43:36.91 so He opened not His mouth." 00:43:36.95\00:43:38.65 There it is, He opened not His mouth to say, Hey, 00:43:38.68\00:43:41.05 I can't handle this. 00:43:41.08\00:43:42.42 No, don't do this. Hey, you're mistreating me? 00:43:42.45\00:43:44.35 No, He went to the cross silent. 00:43:44.39\00:43:46.99 Because He wanted to be that sacrifice for us. 00:43:47.02\00:43:49.96 Behold the Lamb of God, 00:43:49.99\00:43:51.69 who takes away the sin of the world. 00:43:51.73\00:43:53.76 I think of Revelation 5, 00:43:53.80\00:43:55.13 that little baby pet lamb that John saw in vision 00:43:55.16\00:43:58.90 appeared before the Lord, the Father, 00:43:58.93\00:44:03.44 as a lamb, as a baby lamb slain. 00:44:03.47\00:44:06.74 The answer to the universe, a baby pet lamb slain. 00:44:06.78\00:44:11.58 Isaiah 53:8, it says, 00:44:11.61\00:44:14.78 "He was taken from the prison and from judgment, 00:44:14.82\00:44:17.45 who will declare His generation? 00:44:17.49\00:44:19.79 For He was cut off from the land of the living, 00:44:19.82\00:44:22.39 for the transgressions of My people He was stricken. 00:44:22.42\00:44:25.73 And they made His grave with the wicked but yet," 00:44:25.76\00:44:28.60 notice this, "with the rich at His death, 00:44:28.63\00:44:33.00 because He had done no violence, 00:44:33.03\00:44:35.37 nor was any deceit in His mouth." 00:44:35.40\00:44:38.04 I love this right here the lesson brings out, it says, 00:44:38.07\00:44:39.91 because of God's love, 00:44:39.94\00:44:42.14 His Messiah would choose to suffer, 00:44:42.18\00:44:44.65 but why? 00:44:44.68\00:44:46.45 He would choose to suffer 00:44:46.48\00:44:47.82 in order to reach the unreachable. 00:44:47.85\00:44:49.98 And the unreachable is us. 00:44:50.02\00:44:52.75 1 Corinthians 1:18, one of my favorite texts. 00:44:52.79\00:44:56.46 "For the message of the cross is foolishness 00:44:56.49\00:44:58.26 to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, 00:44:58.29\00:45:02.66 it is the power of God." 00:45:02.70\00:45:05.30 And yet I hear people today saying, Oh, 00:45:05.33\00:45:06.84 we've heard the cross for so many years, you know, 00:45:06.87\00:45:09.24 that's the milk, we need the meat of the world. 00:45:09.27\00:45:11.41 Let's get past the sacrifice of Christ. 00:45:11.44\00:45:13.54 Let's jump past the altar of sacrifice. 00:45:13.58\00:45:16.51 Let's get past the laver. 00:45:16.54\00:45:17.88 Let's just get right into the Holy 00:45:17.91\00:45:19.25 or the Most Holy Place. 00:45:19.28\00:45:20.62 But, my friends, you can't have 00:45:20.65\00:45:21.98 a Most Holy Place experience. 00:45:22.02\00:45:23.35 You can't have a Holy Place experience 00:45:23.39\00:45:25.05 until you've spent time at the foot of the cross. 00:45:25.09\00:45:27.52 Amen. That's right. That's right. 00:45:27.56\00:45:29.16 I love this closing comment from Ellen White 00:45:29.19\00:45:31.89 in God's Amazing Grace, page 172. 00:45:31.93\00:45:34.23 She goes, she says this right, 00:45:34.26\00:45:35.76 she says, "What a price has been paid for us! 00:45:35.80\00:45:38.67 Behold the cross, 00:45:38.70\00:45:40.04 and the Victim uplifted upon it. 00:45:40.07\00:45:41.67 Look at those hands, pierced with the cruel nails. 00:45:41.70\00:45:45.64 Look at His feet, 00:45:45.67\00:45:47.01 fastened with spikes to the tree. 00:45:47.04\00:45:49.21 Christ bore our sins in His own body. 00:45:49.24\00:45:52.31 That suffering, that agony, 00:45:52.35\00:45:54.98 is the price of your redemption." 00:45:55.02\00:45:58.05 He did it for the unreachable. 00:45:58.09\00:46:01.06 And the unreachable is us. Wow. 00:46:01.09\00:46:03.63 Amen. Amen. 00:46:03.66\00:46:06.13 Thank you so much, Ryan. 00:46:06.16\00:46:08.53 That's powerful. 00:46:08.56\00:46:10.47 Isaiah 53 is an amazing passage. 00:46:10.50\00:46:13.23 The Lord really used you, that was powerful, Ryan. 00:46:13.27\00:46:16.10 As I look at, I have Thursday's lesson. 00:46:16.14\00:46:21.24 I just want to spend some time in prayer now. 00:46:21.28\00:46:22.94 You know, I'm supposed to be 00:46:22.98\00:46:24.31 talking about Thursday's lesson. 00:46:24.35\00:46:25.68 But that just really hit me that just... 00:46:25.71\00:46:27.05 Yeah, the unreachable is us. 00:46:27.08\00:46:29.05 The unreachable is us. The unreachable is me. 00:46:29.08\00:46:31.45 Thank you, Jesus, for that gift. 00:46:31.49\00:46:33.19 It's just amazing. Amen. 00:46:33.22\00:46:35.06 Thursday's lesson is 00:46:35.09\00:46:37.39 "A Transforming Reparation Offering," 00:46:37.43\00:46:40.80 which seems like a mouthful, but we'll get to that. 00:46:40.83\00:46:44.17 This section that we've been discussing Isaiah 53, 00:46:44.20\00:46:47.47 and the last three verses of Isaiah 52 is the final, 00:46:47.50\00:46:51.81 it's the longest 00:46:51.84\00:46:53.17 and it's the most crucial of the servant songs. 00:46:53.21\00:46:57.98 It's really divided. 00:46:58.01\00:46:59.35 I love looking at organization and structure 00:46:59.38\00:47:01.88 because that's how my brain works. 00:47:01.92\00:47:03.85 It's divided up into five sections 00:47:03.89\00:47:06.45 of three verses each. 00:47:06.49\00:47:08.56 The first section is the end of Chapter 52. 00:47:08.59\00:47:11.96 And it talks about the glory and exaltation of the servant. 00:47:11.99\00:47:15.83 The second section 00:47:15.86\00:47:17.20 is the first three verses of Chapter 53. 00:47:17.23\00:47:20.50 That's the descent to sorrow and rejection. 00:47:20.54\00:47:24.74 The third section is the portion 00:47:24.77\00:47:26.64 that Ryan talked about just now verses 4 through 6, 00:47:26.68\00:47:29.34 that substitutionary death. 00:47:29.38\00:47:31.81 Christ taking our punishment, and He bore it to heal us, 00:47:31.85\00:47:36.85 and to save us. 00:47:36.89\00:47:38.65 The next section, verses 7 through 9 00:47:38.69\00:47:41.02 is the innocent servant's descent to the grave. 00:47:41.06\00:47:44.89 And then we come to my section I have the last section, 00:47:44.93\00:47:47.33 verses 10 through 12. 00:47:47.36\00:47:49.26 We're in Isaiah 53:10-12. 00:47:49.30\00:47:52.30 This is the servant ascending to the exalted reward, 00:47:52.33\00:47:57.37 with his sacrifice being to save others. 00:47:57.41\00:48:00.04 This is the glory and exaltation of the servant. 00:48:00.08\00:48:02.91 So this whole section begins 00:48:02.94\00:48:04.78 with the glory and exaltation of the servant. 00:48:04.81\00:48:07.08 And it's going to end with the glory 00:48:07.12\00:48:09.82 and exaltation of the servant. 00:48:09.85\00:48:12.02 I see four points here. 00:48:12.05\00:48:13.39 First, we're going to look at verse 10 here. 00:48:13.42\00:48:15.22 But the first point 00:48:15.26\00:48:16.59 is the suffering was God's will. 00:48:16.62\00:48:20.20 Let's read Isaiah 53:10. 00:48:20.23\00:48:23.90 Many times we say, "Why did He have to suffer?" 00:48:23.93\00:48:26.70 It clearly was not His fault, because He was perfect. 00:48:26.74\00:48:30.64 He had not sinned. 00:48:30.67\00:48:32.37 And then at the cross, what did He say? 00:48:32.41\00:48:34.51 My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? 00:48:34.54\00:48:38.95 So verse 10 begins with a theological explanation 00:48:38.98\00:48:44.22 for the suffering that He went through. 00:48:44.25\00:48:46.89 It says yet it, what's that word? 00:48:46.92\00:48:49.62 Pleased the Lord to bruise Him. 00:48:49.66\00:48:53.36 He has put Him to grief. 00:48:53.40\00:48:54.90 The word pleased in Hebrew means to delight in. 00:48:54.93\00:48:58.53 You mean God, the Father delighted in bruising His Son. 00:48:58.57\00:49:04.17 Now, we could give many reasons for why Jesus had to die. 00:49:04.21\00:49:08.28 We could talk about 00:49:08.31\00:49:09.64 the righteousness of the law being holy, 00:49:09.68\00:49:12.31 just and true. 00:49:12.35\00:49:13.72 The demands of the law needing to be kept. 00:49:13.75\00:49:16.55 We could talk about that all have sinned, 00:49:16.58\00:49:18.82 and all have fallen short of the glory of God, 00:49:18.85\00:49:21.36 we could, and all of that would be true. 00:49:21.39\00:49:23.96 But why did He suffer? 00:49:23.99\00:49:26.49 Because God the Father loved us, 00:49:26.53\00:49:30.10 and He wanted to save us. 00:49:30.13\00:49:32.03 Many times we think, Jesus came, Jesus loved me. 00:49:32.07\00:49:36.84 Jesus wanted to die for me 00:49:36.87\00:49:38.77 and God the Father in the Old Testament, 00:49:38.81\00:49:40.61 we see is harsh and unreachable. 00:49:40.64\00:49:44.71 But yet, God loved us. 00:49:44.75\00:49:46.88 It delighted God the Father to give His Son, why? 00:49:46.92\00:49:50.62 Because as it says in John 16, "The Father Himself, 00:49:50.65\00:49:55.02 He loves you." 00:49:55.06\00:49:56.73 John 3:16, "For God so loved the world 00:49:56.76\00:49:59.49 that He gave His only begotten Son." 00:49:59.53\00:50:01.96 Now, Jesus, of course, we know that the Father, Son, 00:50:02.00\00:50:04.23 and Holy Spirit agreed in this, 00:50:04.27\00:50:06.53 prior even to the entrance of sin in this world. 00:50:06.57\00:50:09.47 They had this plan of redemption set in place, 00:50:09.50\00:50:12.41 but God so loved the world 00:50:12.44\00:50:14.91 that He gave His only begotten Son. 00:50:14.94\00:50:17.95 Point number two, 00:50:17.98\00:50:19.31 the suffering became our reparation 00:50:19.35\00:50:22.38 or a trespass offering. 00:50:22.42\00:50:24.22 This is where we get the title of today's lesson. 00:50:24.25\00:50:28.02 We're still in Isaiah 53:10, 00:50:28.06\00:50:29.82 just the second half of that verse. 00:50:29.86\00:50:31.83 We had already said, 00:50:31.86\00:50:33.19 "It pleased the Lord to bruise him." 00:50:33.23\00:50:34.90 Then it says, "When you make his soul 00:50:34.93\00:50:37.40 an offering for sin, 00:50:37.43\00:50:39.83 he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, 00:50:39.87\00:50:42.90 and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand." 00:50:42.94\00:50:45.81 Now that word for offering in Hebrew 00:50:45.84\00:50:48.18 is a reparation offering or a trespass offering. 00:50:48.21\00:50:53.35 Why was he offered 00:50:53.38\00:50:54.72 as a guilt offering or as a trespass offering? 00:50:54.75\00:50:57.35 He's not offered as a sin offering 00:50:57.39\00:50:58.82 or peace offering. 00:50:58.85\00:51:00.19 The word in Hebrew 00:51:00.22\00:51:01.56 is a guilt offering or a trespass offering. 00:51:01.59\00:51:04.99 We don't have time to get into all of this, 00:51:05.03\00:51:06.73 but if you look at Leviticus 5:7, 00:51:06.76\00:51:09.46 it discusses the guilt offering or the trespass offering. 00:51:09.50\00:51:14.20 And what that means? 00:51:14.24\00:51:15.57 The guilt offering unlike other offerings, 00:51:15.60\00:51:17.87 it included reparation, it included a restitution. 00:51:17.91\00:51:23.41 There was confession of sin. 00:51:23.45\00:51:25.68 Then there was an assessment of what the damage was. 00:51:25.71\00:51:28.98 And then there was restitution made. 00:51:29.02\00:51:31.42 Now they had to pay the value of whatever it was 00:51:31.45\00:51:34.69 plus one-fifth. 00:51:34.72\00:51:36.69 So it was not just an equal substitution, 00:51:36.73\00:51:39.36 there was extra that was added. 00:51:39.39\00:51:41.70 That's why it was called the reparation offering. 00:51:41.73\00:51:44.63 You see no other offering could be paid or substituted. 00:51:44.67\00:51:48.80 Payment is a means if you pay something 00:51:48.84\00:51:51.34 of substituting something 00:51:51.37\00:51:52.97 for something else with the same value. 00:51:53.01\00:51:55.28 Jesus the Messiah was our substitute payment. 00:51:55.31\00:52:00.28 He died more than just the death. 00:52:00.32\00:52:02.45 He died the death of the cross. 00:52:02.48\00:52:05.29 It was the death that included the shame and the scoffing 00:52:05.32\00:52:08.62 and the separation from the Father. 00:52:08.66\00:52:11.26 You could almost say, 00:52:11.29\00:52:12.63 He added the fifth on our behalf. 00:52:12.66\00:52:14.76 This reparation offering not just the offering, 00:52:14.80\00:52:18.33 but He humbled Himself as Philippians 2, Shelley, 00:52:18.37\00:52:21.24 you started with that, not just becoming a man, 00:52:21.27\00:52:23.71 not just dying, but the death on the cross. 00:52:23.74\00:52:28.21 Point number three, 00:52:28.24\00:52:29.58 the suffering was for our justification. 00:52:29.61\00:52:32.35 The next verse, Isaiah 53:11, 00:52:32.38\00:52:35.72 "He shall see the labor of His soul, 00:52:35.75\00:52:37.72 and be satisfied. 00:52:37.75\00:52:39.09 By His knowledge My righteous Servant 00:52:39.12\00:52:41.76 shall justify many, 00:52:41.79\00:52:44.76 for He shall bear their iniquities." 00:52:44.79\00:52:47.66 Now, we see the concept of justification many times 00:52:47.70\00:52:50.20 in the New Testament, 00:52:50.23\00:52:51.57 but it is also all throughout the Old Testament, 00:52:51.60\00:52:55.54 one of, to me one of the clearest 00:52:55.57\00:52:57.51 Old Testament statements 00:52:57.54\00:52:59.41 of imputed righteousness 00:52:59.44\00:53:02.51 where God does not reckon the iniquity 00:53:02.54\00:53:04.28 to the repentant sinner's account 00:53:04.31\00:53:06.31 would be in Psalm 32. 00:53:06.35\00:53:07.78 So let's look at that. 00:53:07.82\00:53:09.15 Of course, we have Genesis with Abraham believing God 00:53:09.18\00:53:11.82 and it's reckoned or accountant to him 00:53:11.85\00:53:13.36 for righteousness. 00:53:13.39\00:53:14.72 But let's look at Psalm 32:1-2, "Blessed is he 00:53:14.76\00:53:17.76 whose transgression is forgiven, 00:53:17.79\00:53:20.30 whose sin is covered. 00:53:20.33\00:53:21.66 Blessed is the man 00:53:21.70\00:53:23.03 to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity." 00:53:23.06\00:53:25.77 That word impute, reckon. 00:53:25.80\00:53:28.90 "And in whose spirit there is no deceit." 00:53:28.94\00:53:31.97 And, of course, there's Romans 5:89, 00:53:32.01\00:53:34.44 "God demonstrated His own love for us 00:53:34.48\00:53:37.05 and that while we were yet still even now sinners, 00:53:37.08\00:53:41.18 Christ died for us, 00:53:41.22\00:53:43.59 much more than having been justified by His blood, 00:53:43.62\00:53:47.32 we shall be saved from wrath through Him." 00:53:47.36\00:53:50.56 And finally, point number four, 00:53:50.59\00:53:52.39 the suffering will lead him to his, 00:53:52.43\00:53:55.66 will lead to his exaltation and glorification. 00:53:55.70\00:53:59.50 Now this is coming full circle again. 00:53:59.53\00:54:02.04 We started with the exaltation 00:54:02.07\00:54:03.81 and glorification of the servant. 00:54:03.84\00:54:05.51 We end again with the servant's exaltation 00:54:05.54\00:54:09.08 and glorification. 00:54:09.11\00:54:10.65 Let's look at verse 12. 00:54:10.68\00:54:12.01 With this passage, with this scripture, 00:54:12.05\00:54:14.22 it comes full circle. 00:54:14.25\00:54:16.18 "Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, 00:54:16.22\00:54:19.52 and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, 00:54:19.55\00:54:21.92 because He poured out His soul unto death, 00:54:21.96\00:54:24.69 and He was numbered with the transgressors, 00:54:24.73\00:54:26.90 and He bore the sin of many, 00:54:26.93\00:54:29.16 and made intercession for the transgressors." 00:54:29.20\00:54:32.97 The servant here, the language used, 00:54:33.00\00:54:35.20 he has been rewarded by God as a king would be rewarded 00:54:35.24\00:54:39.17 after a mighty victory 00:54:39.21\00:54:40.54 when he's returning from battle. 00:54:40.58\00:54:42.64 It reminds me of Acts Chapter 2. 00:54:42.68\00:54:45.05 Remember that whole sermon 00:54:45.08\00:54:46.51 that Peter preached the Pentecostal sermon, 00:54:46.55\00:54:49.48 and he's talking, telling the Jews, okay, 00:54:49.52\00:54:51.65 you crucified Jesus, 00:54:51.69\00:54:53.05 and this is what you did to Him. 00:54:53.09\00:54:54.76 And then in verse 32, he says, "This Jesus, 00:54:54.79\00:54:57.33 the Jesus, you crucified, 00:54:57.36\00:54:59.16 God has raised up 00:54:59.19\00:55:00.96 of which we are all His witnesses, 00:55:01.00\00:55:02.83 therefore being exalted 00:55:02.86\00:55:05.00 to the right hand of God." 00:55:05.03\00:55:07.14 We see the exaltation of the servant, his suffering, 00:55:07.17\00:55:10.11 and then exaltation back to his rightful place 00:55:10.14\00:55:13.41 at the right hand of God. 00:55:13.44\00:55:15.24 Reminds me of Revelation 5, you referenced this, Ryan, 00:55:15.28\00:55:18.31 the scene in the throne room, and they're saying, 00:55:18.35\00:55:20.55 who is worthy to open the scroll 00:55:20.58\00:55:23.65 and loose the seals? 00:55:23.69\00:55:25.99 Verse 5, "Behold, the lion of the tribe of Judah, 00:55:26.02\00:55:30.06 the Root of David has prevailed to open the scroll 00:55:30.09\00:55:34.33 and to lose those seven seals because of his suffering, 00:55:34.36\00:55:38.13 because of what Jesus took our sin, 00:55:38.17\00:55:42.57 because of that, He is" what is it say? 00:55:42.60\00:55:46.37 "Worthy to open the scroll." 00:55:46.41\00:55:49.48 And then we will throughout eternity, 00:55:49.51\00:55:52.05 say as it says in verse nine, 00:55:52.08\00:55:54.12 "You are worthy to take the scroll 00:55:54.15\00:55:56.15 and open the seals, 00:55:56.18\00:55:57.52 you were slain and have redeemed us 00:55:57.55\00:56:00.22 to God by Your blood out of every tribe 00:56:00.26\00:56:02.42 and tongue and people and nations, 00:56:02.46\00:56:04.29 and have made us kings and priests to God 00:56:04.33\00:56:06.36 and we shall reign on the earth." 00:56:06.39\00:56:08.50 Praise the Lord for the suffering servant. 00:56:08.53\00:56:12.43 Amen and amen. What a beautiful study. 00:56:12.47\00:56:15.57 Thank you, Johnny, John, Ryan, and Jill, beautiful lessons. 00:56:15.60\00:56:19.47 I want to just have give everyone 00:56:19.51\00:56:22.01 just a moment to 00:56:22.04\00:56:23.65 have a closing thought about your day. 00:56:23.68\00:56:26.58 Well, I would like to just focus in 00:56:26.61\00:56:28.28 on Isaiah 53:5 00:56:28.32\00:56:30.69 because this speaks to me personally. 00:56:30.72\00:56:33.66 Because it says but he was wounded for our, 00:56:33.69\00:56:36.69 is says our, but you, we need to make this personal. 00:56:36.73\00:56:38.89 He was wounded for my transgressions, 00:56:38.93\00:56:40.83 He was bruised for my iniquities. 00:56:40.86\00:56:43.67 Take a look at Isaiah 53, 00:56:43.70\00:56:45.03 there's a message for you there. 00:56:45.07\00:56:46.84 Amen. Amen. 00:56:57.48\00:56:59.71 There was chorus of the song from the 90s called 00:56:59.75\00:57:02.28 This Blood by Carman made popular, 00:57:02.32\00:57:04.35 and it goes like this, 00:57:04.39\00:57:05.72 this blood can save a soul, heal the sick, mend the heart, 00:57:05.75\00:57:08.76 this blood can give you access to the very throne of God, 00:57:08.79\00:57:11.69 and it still can go the distance, 00:57:11.73\00:57:13.09 through the pain to where you are, 00:57:13.13\00:57:14.90 this blood is for you, the blood of the lamb. 00:57:14.93\00:57:18.33 Amen. 00:57:18.37\00:57:20.44 Under through mine again who our God is. 00:57:20.47\00:57:24.07 And why I want to serve Him with my whole heart in life 00:57:24.11\00:57:27.38 and just encourage you do that as well. 00:57:27.41\00:57:28.81 Amen. 00:57:28.84\00:57:30.18 And I just thank you all so much 00:57:30.21\00:57:31.95 for being with us today. 00:57:31.98\00:57:33.62 When we think of God, He did the unthinkable. 00:57:33.65\00:57:37.75 To me the greatest sacrifice what that He became a man. 00:57:37.79\00:57:41.56 He took on our flesh and then He died for us. 00:57:41.59\00:57:45.39 He came to reach the unreachable 00:57:45.43\00:57:48.50 and that was us, 00:57:48.53\00:57:50.00 but praise God for His plan of grace. 00:57:50.03\00:57:54.57 Join us next week for lesson 11, 00:57:54.60\00:57:57.44 "Waging Love." 00:57:57.47\00:57:59.14 We look forward to seeing you. 00:57:59.17\00:58:00.58
