Amen and amen. 00:02:57.37\00:02:59.67 All right, our lesson is lesson number five, 00:02:59.71\00:03:03.78 the memory text is one 00:03:03.81\00:03:05.65 that you are most likely familiar with 00:03:05.68\00:03:08.88 from Isaiah 9:6, 00:03:08.92\00:03:11.25 "For unto us a child is born, 00:03:11.29\00:03:14.52 unto us a son is given, 00:03:14.56\00:03:18.09 and the government shall be upon his shoulder. 00:03:18.13\00:03:21.53 His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, 00:03:21.56\00:03:25.67 Mighty God, Everlasting Father, 00:03:25.70\00:03:29.94 Prince of Peace." 00:03:29.97\00:03:31.31 That's Isaiah 9:6. 00:03:31.34\00:03:33.41 Our lesson today is on "The Noble Prince of Peace." 00:03:33.44\00:03:38.85 And it was interesting. 00:03:38.88\00:03:40.38 The introduction to the lesson 00:03:40.42\00:03:42.32 talked about Dr. Robert Oppenheimer. 00:03:42.35\00:03:45.55 He was the one who oversaw 00:03:45.59\00:03:47.56 the creation of the first atomic bomb. 00:03:47.59\00:03:50.46 And when he presented his information 00:03:50.49\00:03:52.93 to the US congressional committee, 00:03:52.96\00:03:56.30 they asked him, 00:03:56.33\00:03:57.67 "Well, is there any defense against this weapon?" 00:03:57.70\00:04:00.84 And you know what he said? 00:04:00.87\00:04:02.20 "Certainly." "What is it?" they asked? 00:04:02.24\00:04:04.44 He said, "Peace?" 00:04:04.47\00:04:06.78 You know, it's so amazing 00:04:06.81\00:04:09.91 that as I said in the beginning, 00:04:09.94\00:04:12.81 that humanity has not been able to grasp 00:04:12.85\00:04:19.09 on to peace, 00:04:19.12\00:04:20.46 it has been very elusive. 00:04:20.49\00:04:22.72 But we are going to talk today about that Prince of Peace. 00:04:22.76\00:04:28.56 Sunday's lesson is "End of Gloom for Galilee." 00:04:28.60\00:04:33.97 Isaiah Chapter 8 is where we're going. 00:04:34.00\00:04:37.24 Isaiah Chapter 8. 00:04:37.27\00:04:39.51 And let me just kind of sum this up. 00:04:39.54\00:04:43.95 This ends with a dismal picture 00:04:43.98\00:04:49.02 of what's happening to God's people. 00:04:49.05\00:04:51.85 They had rejected God's victory, 00:04:51.89\00:04:54.62 they turned to the occult, 00:04:54.66\00:04:56.52 refused to accept Isaiah's predictions 00:04:56.56\00:05:00.50 regarding the nation's future hardships. 00:05:00.53\00:05:03.67 Their people were desperate, they were frustrated, 00:05:03.70\00:05:07.54 they were angry 00:05:07.57\00:05:09.67 to the point of cursing the king, 00:05:09.70\00:05:11.74 but even cursing God. 00:05:11.77\00:05:14.91 I mean, they were blaming God for the trials 00:05:14.94\00:05:19.21 that their own decisions 00:05:19.25\00:05:20.75 had brought down on their heads. 00:05:20.78\00:05:23.25 Isaiah 8:22. 00:05:23.28\00:05:24.72 Let's look at that. 00:05:24.75\00:05:26.09 This is the last verse of the chapter. 00:05:26.12\00:05:28.22 And it says, 00:05:28.26\00:05:29.59 "Then they will look to the earth 00:05:29.62\00:05:31.59 and see trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish, 00:05:31.63\00:05:37.10 and they will be driven in to darkness." 00:05:37.13\00:05:42.14 Now the first to suffer the devastation 00:05:42.17\00:05:44.94 of the invasion of King Ahaz 00:05:44.97\00:05:49.11 was Zebulun and Naphtali, 00:05:49.14\00:05:51.85 this was the northern border, and Northeast Galilee, 00:05:51.88\00:05:56.85 just west of the Jordan River. 00:05:56.89\00:05:59.22 And what happened 00:05:59.25\00:06:01.32 and I shouldn't have said King Ahaz 00:06:01.36\00:06:02.99 that was from Tiglath-Pileser 00:06:03.02\00:06:06.13 was the one who oversaw this invasion. 00:06:06.16\00:06:09.73 But King Ahaz had refused God's plan for victory. 00:06:09.76\00:06:14.14 Isn't that amazing? 00:06:14.17\00:06:16.00 And don't we do the same today really? 00:06:16.04\00:06:18.61 When you think about it, God gives us His promises. 00:06:18.64\00:06:21.84 We look elsewhere. That's what Ahaz had done. 00:06:21.88\00:06:24.91 He looked to King Tiglath-Pileser, 00:06:24.95\00:06:28.62 who was the third who is the king of the Assyria, 00:06:28.65\00:06:32.02 but it backfired on him 00:06:32.05\00:06:33.92 because Tiglath-Pileser became very greedy. 00:06:33.96\00:06:38.06 2 Kings 15:29 says this, 00:06:38.09\00:06:41.56 "Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came and took," 00:06:41.60\00:06:47.24 and I'm going to dot-dot-dot, 00:06:47.27\00:06:48.84 "he took Gilead and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali. 00:06:48.87\00:06:54.21 And he carried them captive to Assyria." 00:06:54.24\00:06:58.21 Boy, this was marking 00:06:58.25\00:07:00.12 the beginning of some dark days for Israel. 00:07:00.15\00:07:03.79 Now, in their gloom of anguish, 00:07:03.82\00:07:07.12 they thought that their troubles would never end. 00:07:07.16\00:07:11.13 But the people still had reason to hope 00:07:11.16\00:07:14.70 because since the beginning of time, 00:07:14.73\00:07:17.47 God has had a plan. 00:07:17.50\00:07:19.37 And He intended 00:07:19.40\00:07:20.94 that he's going to transform gloom into honor, 00:07:20.97\00:07:26.91 because Isaiah 9:1 begins with the word nevertheless, 00:07:26.94\00:07:31.91 let's look into that. 00:07:31.95\00:07:33.28 Because when you see nevertheless, 00:07:33.31\00:07:35.08 that indicates a contrast to what came before. 00:07:35.12\00:07:38.82 So now Isaiah 9:1-2 says, 00:07:38.85\00:07:42.86 "Nevertheless, 00:07:42.89\00:07:44.23 that time of darkness and despair 00:07:44.26\00:07:46.19 will not go on forever, 00:07:46.23\00:07:47.90 the land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled. 00:07:47.93\00:07:52.13 But there will be a time in the future 00:07:52.17\00:07:54.50 when Galilee of the Gentiles, 00:07:54.54\00:07:57.11 which lies along the road 00:07:57.14\00:07:58.97 that runs between the Jordan and the sea 00:07:59.01\00:08:00.91 will be filled with glory." 00:08:00.94\00:08:03.75 I love what Isaiah 9:2 says, it says, 00:08:03.78\00:08:07.65 "The people who walked in darkness 00:08:07.68\00:08:11.35 have seen a great light. 00:08:11.39\00:08:14.36 Those who dwelt in the shadow, 00:08:14.39\00:08:17.43 the land of the shadow of death upon them a light has shined." 00:08:17.46\00:08:22.96 Now, it's interesting because 00:08:23.00\00:08:25.50 this is what we call in prophetic language. 00:08:25.53\00:08:29.67 This is the prophetic, perfect tense. 00:08:29.70\00:08:32.51 It's been written as if it already happened. 00:08:32.54\00:08:35.78 And then verse 3 says, 00:08:35.81\00:08:37.45 "You've multiplied the nation and increased its joy." 00:08:37.48\00:08:42.08 Wow! 00:08:42.12\00:08:43.45 This is kind of a reassurance of a covenant with Abraham, 00:08:43.49\00:08:48.39 that they were going to have all these physical descendants 00:08:48.42\00:08:53.70 that would be like the sands of the seashore. 00:08:53.73\00:08:56.83 Then Isaiah 9:4 says, "For you," 00:08:56.87\00:08:59.73 speaking of the Lord, 00:08:59.77\00:09:01.30 "have broken the yoke of his burden, 00:09:01.34\00:09:04.84 the rod of his oppressor." 00:09:04.87\00:09:08.74 To break the yoke was to talk he's predicting 00:09:08.78\00:09:12.71 God is going to free Israel 00:09:12.75\00:09:15.65 from the bondage to Assyria and Babylon, 00:09:15.68\00:09:19.55 but you know what? 00:09:19.59\00:09:20.92 It's an even greater prediction, 00:09:20.96\00:09:23.36 because he's going to break the bondage of sin. 00:09:23.39\00:09:26.96 So who does God used to deliver His people? 00:09:27.00\00:09:29.96 Isaiah 9:6, 00:09:30.00\00:09:32.03 "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, 00:09:32.07\00:09:35.87 and the government shall be on His shoulder 00:09:35.90\00:09:38.21 and His name will be called Wonderful, 00:09:38.24\00:09:40.81 Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, 00:09:40.84\00:09:45.01 Prince of Peace." 00:09:45.05\00:09:46.38 But listen to what verse 7 says, 00:09:46.41\00:09:48.52 "Of the increase of His government and peace, 00:09:48.55\00:09:52.65 there will be no end 00:09:52.69\00:09:54.46 upon the throne of David and over his kingdom 00:09:54.49\00:09:58.39 to order it and establish it with judgment and justice, 00:09:58.43\00:10:03.80 from that time forward even forever. 00:10:03.83\00:10:08.64 The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this." 00:10:08.67\00:10:14.64 You know, twice earlier 00:10:14.68\00:10:16.01 we looked in Isaiah 7 and Isaiah 8, 00:10:16.04\00:10:18.65 it talked about children, that would be a sign. 00:10:18.68\00:10:22.88 It had prophetic significance. 00:10:22.92\00:10:25.25 So for the third time 00:10:25.29\00:10:26.62 we learn of a prophetic future birth, 00:10:26.65\00:10:31.36 boy this time there's no question 00:10:31.39\00:10:33.73 that titles given to this child 00:10:33.76\00:10:36.43 can be only given to Almighty God 00:10:36.46\00:10:40.30 because actually he calls Him Wonderful Counselor. 00:10:40.34\00:10:45.41 That's one who is wise in wisdom. 00:10:45.44\00:10:48.38 This is the messianic passage 00:10:48.41\00:10:50.85 about the Messiah, Jesus Christ. 00:10:50.88\00:10:53.92 Emmanuel, who was born to a virgin, 00:10:53.95\00:10:57.29 but the Wonderful Counselor, 00:10:57.32\00:10:59.32 He'll be unlike the kings before Him, 00:10:59.35\00:11:03.16 who turned away from God's wisdom. 00:11:03.19\00:11:06.63 He will draw on heavenly wisdom. 00:11:06.66\00:11:09.46 Mighty God, 00:11:09.50\00:11:11.80 that can only be the Messiah, right? 00:11:11.83\00:11:14.44 Everlasting Father, 00:11:14.47\00:11:16.07 that's one without beginning or end. 00:11:16.10\00:11:19.11 And He will, as a divinity king 00:11:19.14\00:11:21.54 He will eternally be a father to His people 00:11:21.58\00:11:25.11 with compassionate care and discipline. 00:11:25.15\00:11:28.75 And we know that the Messiah in Micah 5:2 says 00:11:28.78\00:11:34.36 that He is coming forth from Bethlehem Ephrathah, 00:11:34.39\00:11:40.20 who's going forth, one who's going forth 00:11:40.23\00:11:43.26 have been from of old, from everlasting, 00:11:43.30\00:11:47.44 so He's the Prince of Peace. 00:11:47.47\00:11:51.34 Emmanuel's government 00:11:51.37\00:11:53.78 will procure and perpetuate 00:11:53.81\00:11:58.15 eternal peace, hallelujah. 00:11:58.18\00:12:01.88 So this is a message of hope 00:12:01.92\00:12:04.49 that was fulfilled when Christ came. 00:12:04.52\00:12:09.36 He is in Matthew 1:1, the genealogy of Jesus Christ. 00:12:09.39\00:12:15.20 He's the son of David, the son of Abraham. 00:12:15.23\00:12:20.27 He is a human descendant of David, 00:12:20.30\00:12:22.74 who's going to fulfill this. 00:12:22.77\00:12:24.64 And Matthew 1:22-23 says, 00:12:24.67\00:12:27.48 "All this was done, 00:12:27.51\00:12:29.11 that it might be fulfilled 00:12:29.14\00:12:30.88 which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, 00:12:30.91\00:12:34.38 'Behold, the virgin shall be with a child 00:12:34.42\00:12:39.22 and bear a son. 00:12:39.25\00:12:41.39 And his name will be called Emmanuel, 00:12:41.42\00:12:44.29 which is translated God with us." 00:12:44.33\00:12:47.13 So the Bible takes events 00:12:47.16\00:12:49.90 that have happened in the Old Testament. 00:12:49.93\00:12:54.30 And it uses them to prefigure things 00:12:54.34\00:12:57.77 that will happen in the New Testament. 00:12:57.81\00:12:59.94 Listen what quarterly says, 00:12:59.97\00:13:02.34 "Not by accident, 00:13:02.38\00:13:03.71 Jesus' earthly ministry was in the Galilee region, 00:13:03.75\00:13:07.65 where He gave hope 00:13:07.68\00:13:09.02 by announcing the good news of God's kingdom, 00:13:09.05\00:13:12.02 and by healing people, 00:13:12.05\00:13:13.82 including delivering demoniacs from bondage to the occult. 00:13:13.86\00:13:20.50 So the New Testament is applying 00:13:20.53\00:13:24.53 what was said in the Old Testament, 00:13:24.57\00:13:26.63 the territories of Zebulun and Naphtali, 00:13:26.67\00:13:30.74 which at that time represented the kingdom, 00:13:30.77\00:13:34.04 or the northern kingdom. 00:13:34.08\00:13:36.01 Now these territories 00:13:36.04\00:13:37.95 are where Jesus is gonna grow up, minister, 00:13:37.98\00:13:40.92 and these people will see a great light. 00:13:40.95\00:13:43.25 Let me read quickly, Matthew 4:12, 00:13:43.28\00:13:46.22 "When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, 00:13:46.25\00:13:49.12 he left Judea, return to Galilee, 00:13:49.16\00:13:51.43 he went first to Nazareth, 00:13:51.46\00:13:53.13 then left there and move to Capernaum, 00:13:53.16\00:13:56.00 beside the Sea of Galilee, 00:13:56.03\00:13:58.90 in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali." 00:13:58.93\00:14:02.60 This fulfilled what God said through the prophet Isaiah 00:14:02.64\00:14:06.01 in the land of Zebulun and Naphtali, beside the sea, 00:14:06.04\00:14:09.58 beyond the Jordan River, 00:14:09.61\00:14:11.71 in Galilee where so many Gentiles live, 00:14:11.75\00:14:15.12 that people who sat in darkness have seen a great light 00:14:15.15\00:14:19.72 and for those who live in the land 00:14:19.75\00:14:22.99 where death cast its shadow, a light has shined." 00:14:23.02\00:14:27.16 John 1:9 says 00:14:27.20\00:14:29.03 "That the true light came into the world 00:14:29.06\00:14:31.27 and He is the light to every man, 00:14:31.30\00:14:35.17 and Jesus said, 00:14:35.20\00:14:36.54 'I am the light of the world. 00:14:36.57\00:14:38.47 He who follows after Me will never walk in darkness, 00:14:38.51\00:14:43.35 but will have the light of life.' " 00:14:43.38\00:14:46.21 So the coming of the Messiah was synonymous 00:14:46.25\00:14:49.65 with the coming of light 00:14:49.68\00:14:51.82 to remove the bondage of captivity to sin. 00:14:51.85\00:14:57.03 Amen. Amen. 00:14:57.06\00:14:58.93 Praise the Lord. Wow! What a wonderful start. 00:14:58.96\00:15:02.50 I have Monday's lesson and is simply 00:15:02.53\00:15:05.00 "A Child for Us." 00:15:05.03\00:15:07.30 So naturally, how could we go on 00:15:07.34\00:15:08.90 unless we, you know, go ahead and read 00:15:08.94\00:15:11.01 Isaiah 9:6-7 verses that were shared? 00:15:11.04\00:15:15.24 You know, I think mentioned 00:15:15.28\00:15:16.61 we read something two or three different times, 00:15:16.64\00:15:18.38 it begins to stick. 00:15:18.41\00:15:20.12 If you don't mind, I'm going to read it 00:15:20.15\00:15:21.48 because that's part of this child 00:15:21.52\00:15:23.32 and the revelation of this child, 00:15:23.35\00:15:25.45 not just any child, 00:15:25.49\00:15:27.22 but is mentioned the King of kings 00:15:27.26\00:15:28.59 and Lord of lords. 00:15:28.62\00:15:29.96 So when I read these verses, Isaiah 9:6-7, 00:15:29.99\00:15:35.00 I could, I stop with the first line, 00:15:35.03\00:15:36.56 "For unto us a child is born." 00:15:36.60\00:15:39.27 I like that. 00:15:39.30\00:15:40.64 And I just can't help, 00:15:40.67\00:15:42.00 I want to circle there us, unto us. 00:15:42.04\00:15:45.01 It said, a gift is born to us. 00:15:45.04\00:15:47.91 It says, "A Son is given," 00:15:47.94\00:15:49.31 notice this, 00:15:49.34\00:15:50.68 "His life is given to us, 00:15:50.71\00:15:52.38 the government shall be upon His shoulder, 00:15:52.41\00:15:54.82 and His name shall be called, I love it. 00:15:54.85\00:15:56.99 It's Wonderful. 00:15:57.02\00:15:58.35 He's a counselor, He's a Mighty God, 00:15:58.39\00:15:59.72 He's everything, isn't He? 00:15:59.75\00:16:01.09 He's the all in all. 00:16:01.12\00:16:02.69 I love that, Everlasting Father, 00:16:02.72\00:16:04.49 the Prince of Peace." 00:16:04.53\00:16:06.03 And the list could just go on and on and on and on and the, 00:16:06.06\00:16:09.00 of the increase verse 7, 00:16:09.03\00:16:10.37 "His government and peace shall be no end 00:16:10.40\00:16:13.74 upon the throne of David upon his kingdom, to order it, 00:16:13.77\00:16:16.84 and to establish it with judgment, with justice, 00:16:16.87\00:16:20.81 from henceforth even forever. 00:16:20.84\00:16:22.88 The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this." 00:16:22.91\00:16:27.98 The question is asked 00:16:28.02\00:16:29.35 after we read that passage of scripture, 00:16:29.38\00:16:31.85 what is so special about this child? 00:16:31.89\00:16:34.62 What is so special about this child? 00:16:34.66\00:16:37.19 You know, everything seems right, 00:16:37.23\00:16:39.63 everything is special, 00:16:39.66\00:16:41.00 certainly about Jesus as found in these verses. 00:16:41.03\00:16:44.70 The Prophet Isaiah 00:16:44.73\00:16:46.07 began to write and proclaim these words 00:16:46.10\00:16:47.84 and he looked upon the promises there of deliverance, 00:16:47.87\00:16:50.97 promises of the coming of Jesus Christ, 00:16:51.01\00:16:53.38 such as Isaiah 40:5, 00:16:53.41\00:16:55.61 just read that quickly. 00:16:55.64\00:16:56.98 I love it because it says here, 00:16:57.01\00:16:58.35 notice Isaiah 40:5, and it says, 00:16:58.38\00:17:01.35 "The glory of the Lord shall be revealed. 00:17:01.38\00:17:05.49 And all," 00:17:05.52\00:17:06.96 Oh, I like those words all, it says all, 00:17:06.99\00:17:08.89 I start circling all. 00:17:08.92\00:17:10.53 Yeah, no exceptions. 00:17:10.56\00:17:11.89 "All flesh shall see it together." 00:17:11.93\00:17:14.33 It's such a wonderful passage, 00:17:14.36\00:17:15.70 I need to go back 00:17:15.73\00:17:17.07 and just may talk about a couple of words 00:17:17.10\00:17:18.43 that were really exciting to me, 00:17:18.47\00:17:19.80 as I read it. 00:17:19.83\00:17:21.17 First of all, it says in Isaiah 40:5, 00:17:21.20\00:17:22.80 "the glory," 00:17:22.84\00:17:24.17 you know, that's something we can really think about 00:17:24.21\00:17:25.61 the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, 00:17:25.64\00:17:28.38 and certainly wasn't the glory of the Lord 00:17:28.41\00:17:30.41 revealed in His life, 00:17:30.45\00:17:32.11 and in His ministry while He walked this earth. 00:17:32.15\00:17:34.82 How awesome that would be to have been there 00:17:34.85\00:17:37.92 when Jesus walked this earth? 00:17:37.95\00:17:39.92 I think about, I actually get goosebumps 00:17:39.95\00:17:41.66 when I think about Him walking the earth, 00:17:41.69\00:17:44.69 His sandals and His feet and all that He went through, 00:17:44.73\00:17:47.66 and He did it all for you and He did it all for me. 00:17:47.70\00:17:50.40 And so, and not only that, 00:17:50.43\00:17:51.90 they said, all flesh shall see Him. 00:17:51.93\00:17:53.77 So I think there's a transition 00:17:53.80\00:17:55.14 maybe that goes there for His life 00:17:55.17\00:17:57.07 and ministry here on earth. 00:17:57.11\00:17:59.11 And when He comes back, I can't help it, 00:17:59.14\00:18:00.98 He comes back the second time? 00:18:01.01\00:18:02.81 You know when He comes back the second time, 00:18:02.84\00:18:04.38 it says, you know, 00:18:04.41\00:18:05.75 "We shall see Him at the second coming of Jesus." 00:18:05.78\00:18:09.38 Oh, that song says, 00:18:09.42\00:18:11.09 "We shall behold Him. We shall be holy." 00:18:11.12\00:18:15.86 Oh, I love when I hear that somebody sing that song. 00:18:15.89\00:18:19.79 Face to face will behold all of His glory. 00:18:19.83\00:18:23.87 And. 00:18:23.90\00:18:25.23 you know, it goes to what a day that will be 00:18:25.27\00:18:26.84 when my Jesus I shall see. 00:18:26.87\00:18:30.74 Very few people can sing it like, 00:18:30.77\00:18:33.31 is it Sandi Patty sings and then Ivan Parker, 00:18:33.34\00:18:36.75 I've heard both of them sang, 00:18:36.78\00:18:38.11 and it just brings tears to my eyes every time, 00:18:38.15\00:18:40.15 "We shall behold Him, 00:18:40.18\00:18:42.08 oh, we shall behold Him 00:18:42.12\00:18:45.15 face to face in all of His glory." 00:18:45.19\00:18:49.22 Oh, I could just go on and on about that. 00:18:49.26\00:18:51.36 But Isaiah tells about this time, 00:18:51.39\00:18:54.00 the description of the coming of the king. 00:18:54.03\00:18:56.33 And I'm so thankful 00:18:56.36\00:18:57.70 that the Holy Spirit inspired men of God 00:18:57.73\00:18:59.13 to write these things down. 00:18:59.17\00:19:00.60 So somebody like me, 00:19:00.64\00:19:02.07 simple minded just can read them and, 00:19:02.10\00:19:04.27 just get excited about it 00:19:04.31\00:19:05.64 and to believe them the way they were written 00:19:05.67\00:19:07.58 that know that He is coming back. 00:19:07.61\00:19:09.24 Know someday I will be able to behold Him 00:19:09.28\00:19:11.35 if I'm faithful to the very end, 00:19:11.38\00:19:13.35 if we honor Him, because we're seeing in Isaiah, 00:19:13.38\00:19:16.22 how God's people turned. 00:19:16.25\00:19:18.05 And when they turned, 00:19:18.09\00:19:19.42 God couldn't do what He wanted to do, 00:19:19.45\00:19:21.22 you know, for them. 00:19:21.26\00:19:22.59 And I long for that day, only one person as mentioned, 00:19:22.62\00:19:26.49 I think Sister Shelley you mentioned, 00:19:26.53\00:19:27.86 only one person can match up to this description here, 00:19:27.90\00:19:30.90 that was Jesus Christ, a vision of the Lord. 00:19:30.93\00:19:34.14 And I say it right now God's people 00:19:34.17\00:19:35.97 if we ever needed a vision, we need one now. 00:19:36.00\00:19:38.04 Amen. 00:27:59.34\00:28:00.68 It says, "Therefore the Lord shall set up 00:28:00.71\00:28:03.08 adversaries of Rezin against him, 00:28:03.11\00:28:05.91 and spur his enemies on, the Syrians 00:28:05.95\00:28:08.52 before and the Philistines behind, 00:28:08.55\00:28:10.45 and they shall devour Israel with an open mouth. 00:28:10.49\00:28:14.32 For all this His anger is not turned away, 00:28:14.36\00:28:17.89 but His hand is stretched out still. 00:28:17.93\00:28:20.86 For the people do not turn to Him 00:28:20.90\00:28:22.53 who strikes them, 00:28:22.56\00:28:23.90 nor do they seek the Lord of hosts. 00:28:23.93\00:28:26.37 Therefore the Lord will cut off head and tail 00:28:26.40\00:28:29.60 from Israel, 00:28:29.64\00:28:31.07 palm branch and bulrush in one day. 00:28:31.11\00:28:34.84 The elder and honorable, he is the head, 00:28:34.88\00:28:38.35 the prophet who teaches lies, and of course, he is the tail." 00:28:38.38\00:28:43.12 And so what we're seeing here is the arrogance 00:28:43.15\00:28:46.09 and the neglect of Israel. 00:28:46.12\00:28:48.52 They're such an arrogant, 00:28:48.56\00:28:50.39 prideful heart of Israel as a nation, 00:28:50.43\00:28:52.49 that they completely turned their backs on the Lord. 00:28:52.53\00:28:54.86 And even though the Lord sent His prophets, 00:28:54.90\00:28:56.87 even though He sent His messengers, 00:28:56.90\00:28:58.77 who warned them and told them 00:28:58.80\00:29:00.14 and tried to draw them back in the way of the Lord, 00:29:00.17\00:29:02.24 they hardened their hearts, they would not listen. 00:29:02.27\00:29:04.51 And so God would send them 00:29:04.54\00:29:05.87 a judgment here, a judgment there, 00:29:05.91\00:29:07.48 He would allow His hand to be outstretched 00:29:07.51\00:29:09.78 in hopes of getting their attention. 00:29:09.81\00:29:11.25 But of course, we know that that was not the case. 00:29:11.28\00:29:13.88 It did not happen. 00:29:13.92\00:29:15.25 In fact, going to verse 21, 00:29:15.28\00:29:16.62 it's the end of that chapter there. 00:29:16.65\00:29:17.99 Isaiah 9:21. 00:29:18.02\00:29:19.55 It says, "Manasseh shall devour Ephraim 00:29:19.59\00:29:21.82 and Ephraim Manasseh, " 00:29:21.86\00:29:23.46 Isn't that how it often is, 00:29:23.49\00:29:24.83 when we turn our backs on the Lord, 00:29:24.86\00:29:26.29 or we pull our eyes off Jesus, 00:29:26.33\00:29:28.23 we end up against each other, our own people, 00:29:28.26\00:29:32.67 and that's exactly what happened here. 00:29:32.70\00:29:34.27 It says, "Together, they shall be against Judah." 00:29:34.30\00:29:37.54 So one's against the other, the other's against the other, 00:29:37.57\00:29:39.64 and then together, they were against another, 00:29:39.67\00:29:41.04 one of their brethren. 00:29:41.08\00:29:42.41 And it says, "For all this His anger is not turned away, 00:29:42.44\00:29:45.51 but His hand is stretched out still." 00:29:45.55\00:29:48.92 And who is He going to bring this judgment? 00:29:48.95\00:29:51.99 Who is He going to use to bring this judgment upon Israel? 00:29:52.02\00:29:54.19 Well, the people that 00:29:54.22\00:29:55.56 they basically submitted themselves to, 00:29:55.59\00:29:58.06 and basically gave up themselves 00:29:58.09\00:29:59.73 to their heathen worships 00:29:59.76\00:30:01.10 and their ways and their ways of life 00:30:01.13\00:30:03.10 and of course we're talking about Assyria, 00:30:03.13\00:30:05.03 the king of Assyria. 00:30:05.07\00:30:06.84 And you know, 00:30:06.87\00:30:08.20 God doesn't leave out the king of Assyria either. 00:30:08.24\00:30:10.44 While He allowed His, 00:30:10.47\00:30:12.57 the judgment of Israel to be executed 00:30:12.61\00:30:15.31 by the hand of Assyria. 00:30:15.34\00:30:17.21 God, I'm sure, 00:30:17.25\00:30:18.58 I'm sure the Lord wanted to reach the heart 00:30:18.61\00:30:20.32 of this king of Assyria as well, 00:30:20.35\00:30:22.15 just as He wanted to reach the pagan 00:30:22.18\00:30:24.02 king of Babylon Nebuchadnezzar. 00:30:24.05\00:30:26.19 But notice what the Bible says about, again, 00:30:26.22\00:30:28.49 and the title of this section is arrogant Assyria. 00:30:28.52\00:30:31.39 So you got arrogant Israel, 00:30:31.43\00:30:32.86 being judged by arrogant Assyria, 00:30:32.89\00:30:35.00 and arrogant Assyria is going to be judged by God. 00:30:35.03\00:30:37.73 Notice what the Bible says. 00:30:37.77\00:30:39.10 And now we are into Chapter 10. 00:30:39.13\00:30:41.17 We're over in Isaiah 10. 00:30:41.20\00:30:42.87 And I'm gonna start reading in verse 5. 00:30:42.90\00:30:44.34 It says, "Woe to Assyria, 00:30:44.37\00:30:46.11 the rod of My anger 00:30:46.14\00:30:47.81 and the staff in whose hand is My indignation. 00:30:47.84\00:30:50.95 I will send him against an ungodly nation, 00:30:50.98\00:30:53.88 and against the people of My wrath, 00:30:53.92\00:30:55.92 I will give him charge, 00:30:55.95\00:30:57.65 to seize the spoil, to take the prey, 00:30:57.69\00:31:00.29 and to tread them down like the mire of the streets." 00:31:00.32\00:31:03.43 So again, God using Assyria 00:31:03.46\00:31:05.53 because again, they had turned their backs on the Lord, 00:31:05.56\00:31:08.50 they had given them themselves 00:31:08.53\00:31:09.96 over to the ways of the Assyrians. 00:31:10.00\00:31:11.87 And so now He's allowing the Assyrian army 00:31:11.90\00:31:14.54 under the leadership of the Assyrian king, 00:31:14.57\00:31:16.71 to now overthrow Israel. 00:31:16.74\00:31:18.57 Verse 12, we're in 10:12, it says, 00:31:18.61\00:31:21.28 "Therefore it shall come to pass, 00:31:21.31\00:31:23.45 when the Lord has performed all His work on Mount Zion 00:31:23.48\00:31:26.15 and on Jerusalem, 00:31:26.18\00:31:27.52 that He will say, 00:31:27.55\00:31:28.88 'I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart 00:31:28.92\00:31:32.12 of the king of Assyria," 00:31:32.15\00:31:33.49 here it is, 00:31:33.52\00:31:34.86 "and the glory of his haughty looks.' " 00:31:34.89\00:31:39.19 And He goes on to say in verse 13, 00:31:39.23\00:31:42.43 "By the strength of my hand I have done it, 00:31:42.46\00:31:46.03 and by my wisdom, for I am prudent, 00:31:46.07\00:31:49.97 and I have removed the boundaries of the people, 00:31:50.01\00:31:52.64 and have robbed their treasuries. 00:31:52.67\00:31:55.31 So I have put down the inhabitants 00:31:55.34\00:31:57.78 like a valiant man." 00:31:57.81\00:31:59.78 So God is exercising judgment upon this nation 00:31:59.81\00:32:03.65 and upon these people who have neglected Him, 00:32:03.69\00:32:06.02 who have turned their back on the Lord. 00:32:06.05\00:32:08.72 And, you know, 00:32:08.76\00:32:10.16 this shouldn't surprise us 00:32:10.19\00:32:11.53 because over in Leviticus Chapter 26, 00:32:11.56\00:32:14.10 does not God clearly spell out for the nation, 00:32:14.13\00:32:17.20 His covenant people, they're in covenant with Him. 00:32:17.23\00:32:19.50 They said, 00:32:19.53\00:32:20.87 "Lord, all that You have said, we will do, 00:32:20.90\00:32:22.24 we will follow this covenant, we agree to these terms." 00:32:22.27\00:32:24.77 And so the Lord makes it clear in Leviticus Chapter 26, 00:32:24.81\00:32:27.74 we're not going to be able to read all of this 00:32:27.78\00:32:29.14 because it's quite a bit. 00:32:29.18\00:32:30.51 But God pronounces judgments in multiple different phases. 00:32:30.55\00:32:33.92 He says, he basically says, throughout this whole chapter, 00:32:33.95\00:32:36.55 you know, "If you will not obey my voice, 00:32:36.58\00:32:38.55 this is what's going to happen to you. 00:32:38.59\00:32:40.39 If you will not, then again, obey my voice, 00:32:40.42\00:32:42.99 I will bring this upon you." 00:32:43.02\00:32:44.99 Notice verse 14 of Leviticus Chapter 26, 00:32:45.03\00:32:48.16 we're going to start with verse 14, 00:32:48.20\00:32:49.73 and read till 17 there. 00:32:49.76\00:32:51.10 It says, "But if you do not obey me, 00:32:51.13\00:32:52.77 and do not observe all these commandments, 00:32:52.80\00:32:54.84 and if you despise my statutes, 00:32:54.87\00:32:56.44 and if your soul abhors my judgments, 00:32:56.47\00:32:59.14 so that you do not perform all My commandments, 00:32:59.17\00:33:01.48 but break My covenant, I also will do this to you." 00:33:01.51\00:33:05.08 And God is very clear. 00:33:05.11\00:33:06.45 He says, 00:33:06.48\00:33:07.82 "I will even appoint terror over you, 00:33:07.85\00:33:09.35 wasting disease and fever, 00:33:09.38\00:33:11.72 which shall consume the eyes and call sorrow of heart, 00:33:11.75\00:33:15.16 and you shall sow your seed in vain, 00:33:15.19\00:33:17.23 for your enemies shall eat it. 00:33:17.26\00:33:19.33 I will set my face against you, 00:33:19.36\00:33:21.03 and you shall be defeated by your enemies." 00:33:21.06\00:33:23.26 That's exactly what's happening here. 00:33:23.30\00:33:25.13 "Those who hate you shall reign over you, 00:33:25.17\00:33:27.07 and you shall flee when no one pursues you." 00:33:27.10\00:33:30.21 So again, God is talking about chaos 00:33:30.24\00:33:32.47 that has erupted in Jerusalem and in Israel, 00:33:32.51\00:33:36.21 because the people of the Lord, 00:33:36.24\00:33:38.11 they have been given the word, 00:33:38.15\00:33:39.61 they know they have the prophets 00:33:39.65\00:33:41.45 who have spoken to them. 00:33:41.48\00:33:42.82 They have the scrolls, they know what it says. 00:33:42.85\00:33:45.05 But it's simply they have reached a point 00:33:45.09\00:33:46.42 where they said, 00:33:46.45\00:33:47.79 "Lord, we know what you have said, but, 00:33:47.82\00:33:50.56 we know what you have declared on us, 00:33:50.59\00:33:52.36 but we're gonna do this 00:33:52.39\00:33:54.10 because it better suits us during this time." 00:33:54.13\00:33:55.93 And the Lord, again, 00:33:55.96\00:33:57.30 I can imagine His heart is breaking indeed. 00:33:57.33\00:34:00.00 You see, if God would have wanted 00:34:00.04\00:34:02.14 to destroy His people, 00:34:02.17\00:34:03.77 He could have given them up to the Assyrians right away, 00:34:03.81\00:34:05.91 right? 00:34:05.94\00:34:07.28 But He allowed this to unfold over a period of time. 00:34:07.31\00:34:09.84 And, of course, you know, I love 2 Peter 3:9, 00:34:09.88\00:34:12.45 because it really speaks 00:34:12.48\00:34:13.82 to the wonderful character of the Lord, 00:34:13.85\00:34:15.72 when He says, you know, 00:34:15.75\00:34:17.25 that He doesn't want anyone to perish, 00:34:17.29\00:34:18.85 but all to come to repentance. 00:34:18.89\00:34:21.42 That was the purpose of these judgments, 00:34:21.46\00:34:23.36 not to bring harm, not to bring fear, 00:34:23.39\00:34:25.66 not to bring hatred upon the people, 00:34:25.69\00:34:27.43 but to draw them to repentance. 00:34:27.46\00:34:29.66 And so what we see as a pattern of events 00:34:29.70\00:34:31.93 to which God allows His people to experience 00:34:31.97\00:34:34.74 some of these judgments for their folly in hopes 00:34:34.77\00:34:37.97 that it will wake them up, 00:34:38.01\00:34:39.51 and that they see the error of their ways 00:34:39.54\00:34:41.38 and ultimately repent. 00:34:41.41\00:34:42.74 But if you read the story of the Old Testament, 00:34:42.78\00:34:44.55 it's a perpetual, ongoing pattern 00:34:44.58\00:34:46.75 in which, you know, Israel continues in rebellion. 00:34:46.78\00:34:50.79 And, of course, this cycle is repeated 00:34:50.82\00:34:53.36 and ultimately ends in a downward spiral 00:34:53.39\00:34:57.26 in which God ultimately can't do nothing, 00:34:57.29\00:34:59.36 He has to withdraw Himself from them. 00:34:59.39\00:35:02.86 And so, you know, ultimately, what were the sins? 00:35:02.90\00:35:05.33 I want to add this really quickly, 00:35:05.37\00:35:06.70 what were the sins and I have to highlight this 00:35:06.74\00:35:08.57 that ultimately brought this destruction upon them. 00:35:08.60\00:35:11.67 Isaiah 10:1-2, 00:35:11.71\00:35:13.38 I have to highlight this, it says, 00:35:13.41\00:35:14.74 "Woe to those who decreed unrighteous decrees, 00:35:14.78\00:35:17.65 who write misfortune, which they have prescribed, 00:35:17.68\00:35:20.82 to rob the needy of justice, 00:35:20.85\00:35:22.95 and to take what is right from the poor of my people, 00:35:22.98\00:35:25.69 that widows may be their prey, 00:35:25.72\00:35:27.76 and that they may rob the fatherless." 00:35:27.79\00:35:31.06 What does Jesus say? 00:35:31.09\00:35:33.29 "And when you've done this to the least of these, 00:35:33.33\00:35:36.10 you have done that to me." 00:35:36.13\00:35:37.97 What we're seeing here, my friends, 00:35:38.00\00:35:39.47 is we need to follow the counsel of God's Word, 00:35:39.50\00:35:41.60 that we need to love the Lord God 00:35:41.64\00:35:42.97 with all our heart, mind and soul, 00:35:43.00\00:35:44.37 and our neighbor as ourselves. 00:35:44.41\00:35:45.97 That's not what Israel was doing. 00:35:46.01\00:35:47.84 They were bringing judgment upon others, 00:35:47.88\00:35:51.31 they were casting down others and ultimately it costs them. 00:35:51.35\00:35:54.52 We need to learn from this lesson, 00:35:54.55\00:35:56.28 and give our hearts to the Lord that we may be led in His way. 00:35:56.32\00:35:59.69 Amen. Amen. 00:35:59.72\00:36:01.49 Thank you, Ryan, for that enthusiasm. 00:36:01.52\00:36:04.53 Something you never lacked is the power of the Word. 00:36:04.56\00:36:08.06 Praise the Lord for that. 00:36:08.10\00:36:10.07 In Wednesday's lesson, "The Root and Branch in One." 00:36:10.10\00:36:15.67 "The Root and Branch in One." 00:36:15.70\00:36:17.04 We begin with Isaiah 11:1, 00:36:17.07\00:36:20.31 and Isaiah, the prophet, you had quite a bit to cover, 00:36:20.34\00:36:23.24 three chapters. 00:36:23.28\00:36:24.68 You did a very good job. 00:36:24.71\00:36:26.51 We read about 00:36:26.55\00:36:27.88 not only the restoration of the kingdom, 00:36:27.92\00:36:29.95 but the future unfolding of the kingdom. 00:36:29.98\00:36:36.19 Because the kingdom, in fact, we have to keep this in mind. 00:36:36.22\00:36:38.83 The kingdom is not just the people, 00:36:38.86\00:36:41.20 the foundation. 00:36:41.23\00:36:42.66 The most important part of the kingdom 00:36:42.70\00:36:44.13 is its foundation. 00:36:44.17\00:36:46.07 If the foundation is destroyed, what will the people of God do? 00:36:46.10\00:36:49.64 And so we find the foundation 00:36:49.67\00:36:51.01 is talked about of the kingdom of God here, 00:36:51.04\00:36:53.17 in Isaiah Chapter 11. 00:36:53.21\00:36:54.81 The Bible says, 00:36:54.84\00:36:56.18 "There shall come forth 00:36:56.21\00:36:58.01 a rod from the stem of Jesse, 00:36:58.05\00:37:03.95 and a branch shall grow out of his roots. 00:37:03.99\00:37:08.79 The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, 00:37:08.82\00:37:11.99 the spirit of wisdom and understanding, 00:37:12.03\00:37:14.63 the spirit of counsel and might, 00:37:14.66\00:37:17.53 the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord, 00:37:17.57\00:37:22.00 his delight is in the fear of the Lord. 00:37:22.04\00:37:24.61 And he shall not judge by the side of his eyes, 00:37:24.64\00:37:29.11 nor decide by the hearing of his ears, 00:37:29.14\00:37:31.68 but with righteousness, he shall judge the poor, 00:37:31.71\00:37:35.08 and decide with equity, the meek of the earth, 00:37:35.12\00:37:37.75 He shall strike the earth with a rod of his mouth, 00:37:37.79\00:37:41.06 and with the breath of his lips, 00:37:41.09\00:37:43.02 he shall slay the wicked, 00:37:43.06\00:37:44.93 righteousness shall be the belt of his loins, 00:37:44.96\00:37:48.40 and faithfulness, the belt of his waist." 00:37:48.43\00:37:52.63 When you read about this, 00:37:52.67\00:37:54.20 it could only be talking about one individual, 00:37:54.24\00:37:58.21 and I want to use the word individual loosely. 00:37:58.24\00:38:00.98 There's only one personality 00:38:01.01\00:38:03.31 that can fit into that description. 00:38:03.35\00:38:05.08 And that's the personality of Christ. 00:38:05.11\00:38:07.32 You know, when it talked about he shall not use his own eyes 00:38:07.35\00:38:10.69 or his own judgment. 00:38:10.72\00:38:12.49 Because when Jesus came, He said, 00:38:12.52\00:38:14.02 "I of my own self can do nothing, 00:38:14.06\00:38:16.32 I do the will of the Father that sent me." 00:38:16.36\00:38:18.79 He talked about independence of His own self, 00:38:18.83\00:38:21.80 but complete reliance on God. 00:38:21.83\00:38:23.87 Because anytime you have a root, 00:38:23.90\00:38:25.90 you also have a branch. 00:38:25.93\00:38:27.67 Jesus is the root 00:38:27.70\00:38:29.04 and we are the vine and the branches, 00:38:29.07\00:38:31.44 but also He is the Root of David. 00:38:31.47\00:38:34.18 What's talked about here 00:38:34.21\00:38:35.54 is through the genealogy of the Israelite nation, 00:38:35.58\00:38:38.45 or even the nation of Judah, 00:38:38.48\00:38:40.52 you find that this nation went through 00:38:40.55\00:38:42.12 continual rises and falls. 00:38:42.15\00:38:44.42 But when it brings about the imagery here, 00:38:44.45\00:38:47.06 in Isaiah10:33, 00:38:47.09\00:38:50.23 notice what's happening here, verse 33 and 34. 00:38:50.26\00:38:53.06 And I'm kind of peeking into some of the territory 00:38:53.09\00:38:55.30 that Ryan covered, but it says, 00:38:55.33\00:38:57.00 "Behold, the Lord, 00:38:57.03\00:38:58.97 the Lord of hosts will lop off the bough with terror. 00:38:59.00\00:39:03.34 Those of high statue will be hewn down, 00:39:03.37\00:39:06.34 and the haughty will be humbled. 00:39:06.37\00:39:08.04 He will cut down the thickets of the forest with iron 00:39:08.08\00:39:12.95 and Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One." 00:39:12.98\00:39:18.32 So it's talking about 00:39:18.35\00:39:19.69 how the nation is going to go through some shake ups. 00:39:19.72\00:39:23.46 It's going to go through some times of divisions 00:39:23.49\00:39:25.23 and breakdowns. 00:39:25.26\00:39:26.59 And if you look at this entire picture, 00:39:26.63\00:39:28.26 and I've come to the conclusion over a couple years ago, 00:39:28.30\00:39:31.37 that the entire Bible has one particular theme 00:39:31.40\00:39:36.20 that is consistent. 00:39:36.24\00:39:38.07 Satan is trying to prevent Jesus from coming 00:39:38.11\00:39:42.44 and accomplishing His mission. 00:39:42.48\00:39:44.21 From the time 00:39:44.25\00:39:45.58 that it was a forecast in Genesis 3:15. 00:39:45.61\00:39:49.65 The battle between the seeds, 00:39:49.68\00:39:51.55 Satan has always continued throughout the ages 00:39:51.59\00:39:54.36 to try to lop off, 00:39:54.39\00:39:56.26 to lop off the branch that's going to come, 00:39:56.29\00:39:58.79 to lop off the work 00:39:58.83\00:40:00.16 that Jesus was going to accomplish. 00:40:00.20\00:40:02.36 And so we find, 00:40:02.40\00:40:03.73 that's why we see 00:40:03.77\00:40:05.10 after he couldn't successfully prevent the work of Christ. 00:40:05.13\00:40:08.30 Now he's going after the seed of the woman, 00:40:08.34\00:40:10.87 went to make war with the remnant of her seed. 00:40:10.91\00:40:13.04 It's always been about the seed. 00:40:13.07\00:40:14.51 And so we see that 00:40:14.54\00:40:15.88 this is what the Bible is forecasting here. 00:40:15.91\00:40:17.48 That's why I like it talks about the root 00:40:17.51\00:40:19.78 and the branch in one. 00:40:19.81\00:40:21.15 Let's go on. 00:40:21.18\00:40:22.52 The question is, 00:40:22.55\00:40:23.89 why is the new Davidic ruler also called the root of Jesse? 00:40:23.92\00:40:28.72 Isaiah 11:10, talks about this. 00:40:28.76\00:40:32.09 "And in that day, there shall be a root of Jesse, 00:40:32.13\00:40:34.76 who shall stand as a banner, to the people, 00:40:34.80\00:40:38.60 for the Gentiles shall seek him, 00:40:38.63\00:40:41.80 and his resting place shall be glorious. 00:40:41.84\00:40:43.91 Let's go to Acts very, very quickly. 00:40:43.94\00:40:45.81 I want to cover a few points here, Jill. 00:40:45.84\00:40:47.61 I don't have an entire list. 00:40:47.64\00:40:49.78 But I do have a point, Acts Chapter 13. 00:40:49.81\00:40:53.65 The Gentiles shall seek Him. 00:40:53.68\00:40:56.48 Right? 00:40:56.52\00:40:57.85 Acts Chapter 13. 00:40:57.89\00:40:59.45 That's right. Here I am. 00:40:59.49\00:41:01.19 Acts 13:44 and it says, verse 42, 00:41:01.22\00:41:07.36 "And when the Jews went out of the synagogue, 00:41:07.40\00:41:09.50 the Gentiles begged 00:41:09.53\00:41:11.33 that these words might be preached to them 00:41:11.37\00:41:13.70 the next Sabbath. 00:41:13.74\00:41:15.07 The Gentiles want to hear it. 00:41:15.10\00:41:16.67 And you go further down, 00:41:16.71\00:41:18.07 when the Jews rejected 00:41:18.11\00:41:19.44 what the Lord was giving to them. 00:41:19.47\00:41:21.54 He says in verse 47, 00:41:21.58\00:41:23.01 "For so the Lord has commanded us, 00:41:23.04\00:41:24.81 I have sent you to be a light to the Gentiles 00:41:24.85\00:41:28.18 that you should be for salvation 00:41:28.22\00:41:29.58 to the ends of the earth. 00:41:29.62\00:41:30.95 And now when the Gentiles, verse 48, heard this, 00:41:30.99\00:41:33.25 they were glad and glorified the Word of the Lord, 00:41:33.29\00:41:36.12 and as many as had been appointed 00:41:36.16\00:41:37.99 to eternal life believed. 00:41:38.03\00:41:39.69 So yes, the Gentiles sought the very thing that Jews had. 00:41:39.73\00:41:43.06 The root was not just to the Jews, 00:41:43.10\00:41:45.37 the root was to be extended through the Jews, 00:41:45.40\00:41:48.57 not just to the Jews. 00:41:48.60\00:41:50.31 So we're talking about the origin of divinity here. 00:41:50.34\00:41:53.27 And Revelation begins to amplify 00:41:53.31\00:41:55.44 and what I'm going to do in the remainder of my time, 00:41:55.48\00:41:57.81 is amplify this root throughout the New Testament. 00:41:57.85\00:42:00.58 Revelation 22:16. 00:42:00.62\00:42:03.62 Revelation 22:16, 00:42:03.65\00:42:06.52 the forecast of the coming Messiah, 00:42:06.55\00:42:09.26 Jesus now speaking of Himself. 00:42:09.29\00:42:11.56 "I, Jesus, have sent My angel 00:42:11.59\00:42:15.26 to give you this testimony for the churches. 00:42:15.30\00:42:18.03 I am the root and offspring of David, 00:42:18.07\00:42:22.24 and the bright and morning star." 00:42:22.27\00:42:24.34 So He's saying, 00:42:24.37\00:42:25.71 if you're looking for Me, here I am. 00:42:25.74\00:42:29.14 What's amazing about that? 00:42:29.18\00:42:30.51 I was talking to a Jewish gentleman 00:42:30.55\00:42:32.01 a couple of years ago, 00:42:32.05\00:42:33.38 when I was in, 00:42:33.42\00:42:34.75 I went to Las Vegas for the big electronic show. 00:42:34.78\00:42:37.15 And as I was checking out of the counter, 00:42:37.19\00:42:39.65 you know, B&H photo, 00:42:39.69\00:42:41.22 one of the Jewish guys was there 00:42:41.26\00:42:42.69 during the checkout. 00:42:42.72\00:42:44.06 And I said to him, 00:42:44.09\00:42:45.43 "You and I are brothers. We have many things in common." 00:42:45.46\00:42:47.76 He said, "Oh." 00:42:47.80\00:42:49.36 I said, "I keep the Sabbath." 00:42:49.40\00:42:50.73 He said, "Are you Jewish?" I said, "No, I'm Christian." 00:42:50.77\00:42:53.94 I said, "I also eat clean meats alone." 00:42:53.97\00:42:56.34 He said, "Are you following the Jewish laws?" 00:42:56.37\00:42:59.54 I said, "Not just the Jewish laws, 00:42:59.57\00:43:00.91 the biblical laws." 00:43:00.94\00:43:02.81 I said, "Do you know that your prophet Daniel 00:43:02.84\00:43:05.01 spoke of the coming Messiah?" 00:43:05.05\00:43:06.92 "He did?" 00:43:06.95\00:43:08.28 I shared with him Daniel 9:24- 27. 00:43:08.32\00:43:10.85 Right there at the counter he said, 00:43:10.89\00:43:12.39 "I've never heard that." 00:43:12.42\00:43:13.76 I said, "This is not the New Testament. 00:43:13.79\00:43:15.62 This is the Old Testament prophet Daniel, 00:43:15.66\00:43:17.76 and he is your prophet." 00:43:17.79\00:43:19.13 "Yes, he is." 00:43:19.16\00:43:20.50 He said, "Very interesting. Let me go read that." 00:43:20.53\00:43:23.63 So we can still share about the Messiah 00:43:23.67\00:43:25.93 without going through the New Testament. 00:43:25.97\00:43:27.67 But undoubtedly, 00:43:27.70\00:43:29.57 when you follow the lineage of Christ, 00:43:29.60\00:43:31.81 you find His death penalty connected to David. 00:43:31.84\00:43:34.61 Luke 1:11, 00:43:34.64\00:43:36.28 "For there is born to you this day 00:43:36.31\00:43:39.15 in the city of David, 00:43:39.18\00:43:41.25 a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." 00:43:41.28\00:43:44.75 I made a point, ancestry is irrefutable, 00:43:44.79\00:43:48.12 regardless of who you identify with, 00:43:48.16\00:43:50.79 or personally knowing your family tree. 00:43:50.83\00:43:53.60 The genealogy is undeniable. Yeah. 00:43:53.63\00:43:55.80 Some people wonder, 00:43:55.83\00:43:57.17 where did he get that attitude from? 00:43:57.20\00:43:58.97 Check your family line. 00:43:59.00\00:44:00.57 Some people where does that intelligence 00:44:00.60\00:44:02.74 or that desire for music come from? 00:44:02.77\00:44:04.64 Check your family line? 00:44:04.67\00:44:06.61 Matthew also brings out the genealogy of Christ. 00:44:06.64\00:44:09.71 Matthew 1:17. 00:44:09.74\00:44:11.18 So all the generation from Adam to David 00:44:11.21\00:44:13.48 all 14 generations, 00:44:13.52\00:44:15.38 from David, 00:44:15.42\00:44:17.25 until the captivity in Babylon are 14 generations, 00:44:17.29\00:44:20.36 and from the captivity in Babylon, 00:44:20.39\00:44:22.66 until the Christ are 14 generations. 00:44:22.69\00:44:25.56 Once again connecting the lineage, 00:44:25.59\00:44:28.13 the root and the branch in one. 00:44:28.16\00:44:31.53 And then in Luke Chapter 3. 00:44:31.57\00:44:33.64 And this is a whole mouthful right here. 00:44:33.67\00:44:36.34 Now Jesus Himself began His ministry 00:44:36.37\00:44:38.37 about 30 years of age, 00:44:38.41\00:44:41.61 being as was suppose the son of Joseph, 00:44:41.64\00:44:45.21 the son of Heli, the son of Methuselah, 00:44:45.25\00:44:48.08 the son of Enosh, the son of Jared, 00:44:48.12\00:44:50.52 the son of Melchi, the son of Cainan, 00:44:50.55\00:44:53.39 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, 00:44:53.42\00:44:56.09 the son of Adam, the son of God. 00:44:56.12\00:44:58.09 Look at that genealogy, he is tying it back. 00:44:58.13\00:45:01.06 The amazing revelation 00:45:01.10\00:45:02.63 about the genealogy of divinity 00:45:02.66\00:45:04.47 is Jesus is not only the successor, 00:45:04.50\00:45:07.57 the one that follows. 00:45:07.60\00:45:09.00 He is the predecessor, the one that leads. 00:45:09.04\00:45:13.07 Look at Isaiah 43:10. 00:45:13.11\00:45:16.61 You are my witnesses, says the Lord, 00:45:16.64\00:45:18.78 and my servant whom I have chosen 00:45:18.81\00:45:20.98 that you may know and believe me, 00:45:21.02\00:45:23.69 and understand that I am he, 00:45:23.72\00:45:25.69 before me, this is the predecessor, 00:45:25.72\00:45:28.36 there was no God formed, nor shall there be after me. 00:45:28.39\00:45:32.69 Jesus is the successor and the predecessor. 00:45:32.73\00:45:36.63 And Paul the Apostle makes it clear 00:45:36.67\00:45:38.30 in Colossians 1:17. 00:45:38.33\00:45:40.30 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 00:45:40.34\00:45:46.57 Now in the beginning, 00:45:46.61\00:45:48.28 does not mean after the beginning. 00:45:48.31\00:45:51.71 Want that very, very clear, because some people think that 00:45:51.75\00:45:53.72 Jesus is at the beginning, 00:45:53.75\00:45:55.48 He is the beginning of all things, 00:45:55.52\00:45:56.85 the predecessor and the successor in one, 00:45:56.89\00:45:59.55 the root and the branch. 00:45:59.59\00:46:01.89 Amen. 00:46:01.92\00:46:03.26 Thank you so much, Pastor John. 00:46:03.29\00:46:04.86 What an incredible study as we... 00:46:04.89\00:46:07.13 I have Thursday's lesson, which is "You comforted me." 00:46:07.16\00:46:10.87 It's Isaiah Chapter 12, 00:46:10.90\00:46:12.77 the whole chapter but it's only six verses. 00:46:12.80\00:46:14.67 So it's not as Pastor Ryan 00:46:14.70\00:46:16.47 had to do 30 some or 40 some verses. 00:46:16.50\00:46:19.64 It's not like that. 00:46:19.67\00:46:21.01 If you look at the section of Isaiah 7 through Isaiah 12. 00:46:21.04\00:46:26.72 Isaiah 12 ends this entire section 00:46:26.75\00:46:29.85 talking about prophecies of Emmanuel, 00:46:29.88\00:46:33.39 God with us. 00:46:33.42\00:46:34.89 Isaiah 7, we see the first birth 00:46:34.92\00:46:37.46 and that prophecy God with us. 00:46:37.49\00:46:39.89 Isaiah 8, we see the second birth, 00:46:39.93\00:46:41.96 that is Isaiah's actual second biological son. 00:46:42.00\00:46:45.50 Isaiah 9, we see the third birth, 00:46:45.53\00:46:47.47 this is Christ the Messiah. 00:46:47.50\00:46:51.07 For unto us a child is born and a son is given. 00:46:51.11\00:46:54.88 Isaiah 11, we see Jesus Christ again, 00:46:54.91\00:46:57.88 the root and branch of Jesse. 00:46:57.91\00:47:00.62 Isaiah 12, we see this same Jesus 00:47:00.65\00:47:04.32 brings us comfort, brings us salvation, 00:47:04.35\00:47:07.52 dwells with us as His people. 00:47:07.56\00:47:10.03 What's amazing to me is 00:47:10.06\00:47:11.39 Isaiah 7 begins with Emmanuel, God with us. 00:47:11.43\00:47:14.70 The concluding section, Isaiah 12 ends with, 00:47:14.73\00:47:18.83 for great is the Holy One of Israel 00:47:18.87\00:47:21.10 in your midst. 00:47:21.14\00:47:23.64 God with us again. 00:47:23.67\00:47:26.47 This song, Isaiah 12, 00:47:26.51\00:47:28.34 you could actually look at it as a song or a psalm. 00:47:28.38\00:47:32.58 You could compare it with Exodus 15, 00:47:32.61\00:47:35.22 which is an amazing song of deliverance 00:47:35.25\00:47:37.92 after the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea. 00:47:37.95\00:47:40.82 You can compare it with Revelation 15, 00:47:40.86\00:47:43.16 and the song of Moses and of the Lamb. 00:47:43.19\00:47:46.49 But instead of all that, 00:47:46.53\00:47:47.86 you can look that up another time. 00:47:47.90\00:47:49.26 We're going to six lessons from Isaiah Chapter 12. 00:47:49.30\00:47:53.13 And we're taking basically one from each verse. 00:47:53.17\00:47:55.44 Lesson number one, 00:47:55.47\00:47:56.81 God's judgment is always redemptive, 00:47:56.84\00:47:59.87 and it has a purpose. 00:47:59.91\00:48:02.68 I always like to say 00:48:02.71\00:48:04.05 God uses the gentlest means possible 00:48:04.08\00:48:06.88 to get our attention. 00:48:06.92\00:48:09.05 If just a tap on the shoulder works. 00:48:09.08\00:48:10.65 That's what He's going to use. 00:48:10.69\00:48:12.29 Let's read verse 1, Isaiah 12:1, 00:48:12.32\00:48:15.76 "And in that day you will say, oh, Lord, I will praise you, 00:48:15.79\00:48:20.43 though you were angry with me, your anger is turned away, 00:48:20.46\00:48:24.73 and you comfort me." 00:48:24.77\00:48:26.90 You know, Psalm 30:5 says, 00:48:26.94\00:48:28.60 "Weeping, it endures for a night, 00:48:28.64\00:48:30.94 but joy comes in the morning." 00:48:30.97\00:48:34.61 God's anger, 00:48:34.64\00:48:35.98 especially the anger we saw in Ryan section there 00:48:36.01\00:48:39.21 can be understood as the redemptive, 00:48:39.25\00:48:41.35 corrective discipline 00:48:41.38\00:48:43.28 of a parent who loves their child. 00:48:43.32\00:48:45.95 It reminds me of Hebrews. 00:48:45.99\00:48:47.32 Turn with me to the Book of Hebrews 00:48:47.36\00:48:48.79 Chapter 12. 00:48:48.82\00:48:50.16 We see this redemptive corrective discipline 00:48:50.19\00:48:52.79 coming again from God Himself. 00:48:52.83\00:48:55.06 Hebrews 12, starting in verse 5. 00:48:55.10\00:48:59.17 "My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, 00:48:59.20\00:49:03.74 nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by him, 00:49:03.77\00:49:07.74 for whom the Lord loves he chastens 00:49:07.78\00:49:10.51 and scourges every son whom he receives." 00:49:10.55\00:49:13.92 Jump down to verse 11. 00:49:13.95\00:49:15.68 "Now no chastening seems joyful for the present." 00:49:15.72\00:49:18.19 We don't like the judgment, it doesn't seem pleasant, 00:49:18.22\00:49:20.96 it's painful. 00:49:20.99\00:49:22.42 Nevertheless, afterward, 00:49:22.46\00:49:25.06 it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness 00:49:25.09\00:49:29.56 to those who have been trained by it. 00:49:29.60\00:49:33.90 Apparent disciplines, 00:49:33.94\00:49:35.30 but then they offer love and comfort. 00:49:35.34\00:49:38.61 It reminds me of, 00:49:38.64\00:49:39.97 we studied this in an earlier Sabbath School Panel quarterly. 00:49:40.01\00:49:43.55 Nehemiah, 00:49:43.58\00:49:44.91 the Book of Nehemiah Chapter 9. 00:49:44.95\00:49:46.28 And remember, as Nehemiah reminded 00:49:46.31\00:49:48.35 the children of Israel of their sins, 00:49:48.38\00:49:50.92 there was this cycle, 00:49:50.95\00:49:52.29 there was their disobedience. 00:49:52.32\00:49:54.22 They went their own way. They worshipped other idols. 00:49:54.26\00:49:56.36 They did their own thing. 00:49:56.39\00:49:57.89 Then God brought judgment upon them, to correct them, 00:49:57.93\00:50:03.23 to discipline them, to show them their sins, 00:50:03.26\00:50:06.94 then God brought repentance to them 00:50:06.97\00:50:09.64 because repentance, we can't conjure that up. 00:50:09.67\00:50:11.87 That's a gift from God. 00:50:11.91\00:50:13.71 Then God brought extended mercy toward them, 00:50:13.74\00:50:17.38 and He brought them deliverance. 00:50:17.41\00:50:19.58 But they didn't learn their lesson. 00:50:19.61\00:50:20.95 And they went right back in that cycle of disobedience. 00:50:20.98\00:50:24.12 And then the judgment came again. 00:50:24.15\00:50:27.29 The repentance came, there was mercy extended, 00:50:27.32\00:50:31.06 and God brought deliverance again, 00:50:31.09\00:50:32.43 and they still didn't learn the lesson. 00:50:32.46\00:50:33.80 And they went back through that again. 00:50:33.83\00:50:37.00 Lesson number one, God's judgment is redemptive, 00:50:37.03\00:50:40.57 and it has a purpose. 00:50:40.60\00:50:42.07 Lesson number two, Jesus doesn't do my salvation, 00:50:42.10\00:50:46.54 He is my salvation. 00:50:46.57\00:50:50.25 He doesn't bring my salvation, He is my salvation. 00:50:50.28\00:50:55.65 Let's read verse 2, 00:50:55.68\00:50:57.25 "Behold, God is my salvation. 00:50:57.29\00:51:00.42 I will trust and not be afraid. 00:51:00.46\00:51:02.62 For You the Lord is my strength and my song, 00:51:02.66\00:51:05.39 He also has become my salvation." 00:51:05.43\00:51:08.36 Jesus doesn't just do salvation, 00:51:08.40\00:51:10.33 He is salvation. 00:51:10.37\00:51:12.33 Jesus doesn't just do miracles, 00:51:12.37\00:51:15.20 He became flesh and dwelt among us. 00:51:15.24\00:51:18.67 John 1:14, 00:51:18.71\00:51:20.04 "And the word it became flesh and dwelt among us. 00:51:20.08\00:51:23.55 We beheld His glory, 00:51:23.58\00:51:24.91 the glory is of the only begotten of the Father, 00:51:24.95\00:51:27.32 full of grace and truth. 00:51:27.35\00:51:29.28 Jesus didn't just bear my sins on the cross, 00:51:29.32\00:51:32.42 He became sin for me. 00:51:32.45\00:51:35.02 2 Corinthians 5:21, 00:51:35.06\00:51:37.06 "He made Him, God made Jesus 00:51:37.09\00:51:39.33 who knew no sin, to be sin for me, 00:51:39.36\00:51:43.26 that we might be made 00:51:43.30\00:51:44.63 the righteousness of God in Him." 00:51:44.67\00:51:46.60 Jesus doesn't just make peace. 00:51:46.63\00:51:48.67 He is my peace. 00:51:48.70\00:51:50.97 Ephesians 2:14, 00:51:51.01\00:51:52.97 "For He Himself is our peace, 00:51:53.01\00:51:55.54 who has made both one and has broken down 00:51:55.58\00:51:58.18 the middle wall of separation." 00:51:58.21\00:52:00.72 Jesus doesn't just make a sacrifice. 00:52:00.75\00:52:03.69 He is the sacrifice. 00:52:03.72\00:52:06.12 Hebrews 9:12, 00:52:06.15\00:52:07.49 "Not with the blood of bulls and goats, and calves, 00:52:07.52\00:52:10.39 but with his own blood, 00:52:10.43\00:52:12.69 he entered the most holy place once for all, 00:52:12.73\00:52:15.73 having obtained eternal redemption. 00:52:15.76\00:52:19.40 So lesson two, 00:52:19.43\00:52:20.77 "Jesus doesn't do my salvation, 00:52:20.80\00:52:23.24 He is my salvation." 00:52:23.27\00:52:26.34 Lesson number three, 00:52:26.37\00:52:27.71 "God as my salvation takes away my fear." 00:52:27.74\00:52:31.75 Let's read the second part of that verse, Isaiah 12:2, 00:52:31.78\00:52:35.65 "Behold, God is my salvation." 00:52:35.68\00:52:37.82 Actually the first part, 00:52:37.85\00:52:39.19 "I will trust and not be afraid." 00:52:39.22\00:52:43.22 You know, there's a scripture in Isaiah 26:3, 00:52:43.26\00:52:46.43 which I've had repeated to me many, many times. 00:52:46.46\00:52:49.20 What does it say? 00:52:49.23\00:52:50.57 You will keep him in perfect peace 00:52:50.60\00:52:52.63 whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusts in thee. 00:52:52.67\00:52:57.21 That scripture used to traumatize me 00:52:57.24\00:52:59.87 because I would think, I have to focus on Jesus, 00:52:59.91\00:53:02.71 focus on Jesus, 00:53:02.74\00:53:04.08 Jill, just focus on Jesus. 00:53:04.11\00:53:05.45 If you would focus on Jesus more, 00:53:05.48\00:53:07.88 what would happen? 00:53:07.92\00:53:09.25 Your mind would be in perfect peace, 00:53:09.28\00:53:10.79 you would not fear. 00:53:10.82\00:53:12.69 And it became about me, trying to focus on Jesus. 00:53:12.72\00:53:17.96 But if you look at the Hebrew, this was revolutionary for me. 00:53:17.99\00:53:22.20 You will keep him in perfect peace 00:53:22.23\00:53:23.67 whose mind is stayed on You." 00:53:23.70\00:53:25.87 The word stayed means to lean, 00:53:25.90\00:53:29.30 to lay, to rest upon. 00:53:29.34\00:53:33.44 So what is God saying? 00:53:33.48\00:53:34.81 If you want peace, 00:53:34.84\00:53:36.31 don't stress and try to focus on God. 00:53:36.34\00:53:39.65 I lay my head on His lap. 00:53:39.68\00:53:42.08 You put your head on His shoulder, 00:53:42.12\00:53:45.09 rest on Jesus, 00:53:45.12\00:53:47.26 and He's the one who keeps you in perfect peace. 00:53:47.29\00:53:50.59 You know, we don't have God. 00:53:50.63\00:53:52.33 He has us. 00:53:52.36\00:53:53.90 I love that. 00:53:53.93\00:53:55.26 Lesson number four, 00:53:55.30\00:53:56.63 God's salvation, it never dries up. 00:53:56.67\00:53:59.37 Read verse 3, 00:53:59.40\00:54:01.17 "Therefore with joy, 00:54:01.20\00:54:02.74 you will draw water from the wells of salvation." 00:54:02.77\00:54:06.51 Have you gone to it and thought maybe there's not salvation, 00:54:06.54\00:54:09.01 maybe there's not mercy, maybe there's not grace. 00:54:09.04\00:54:11.78 Those wells are so deep, they are inexhaustible. 00:54:11.81\00:54:15.82 His mercy, His love, 00:54:15.85\00:54:17.65 His forgiveness is inexhaustible. 00:54:17.69\00:54:20.36 Isaiah 55:1, 00:54:20.39\00:54:22.42 "Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters, 00:54:22.46\00:54:25.79 and you who have no money, come, buy and eat." 00:54:25.83\00:54:29.50 We can drink from an inexhaustible source, 00:54:29.53\00:54:32.53 the well of salvation, 00:54:32.57\00:54:34.30 and extend that to someone else. 00:54:34.34\00:54:36.44 Lesson number five, 00:54:36.47\00:54:37.81 if God's done something for you, 00:54:37.84\00:54:39.47 tell somebody else about it. 00:54:39.51\00:54:41.94 We see this in verse 4 and 5, 00:54:41.98\00:54:44.78 "And in that day, you will say, 00:54:44.81\00:54:46.88 praise the Lord. 00:54:46.92\00:54:48.25 Call upon His name, 00:54:48.28\00:54:49.62 declare His deeds among the people, 00:54:49.65\00:54:51.52 make mentioned that His name is exalted. 00:54:51.55\00:54:54.89 Sing to the Lord, for He's done excellent things. 00:54:54.92\00:54:57.79 This is known in all the earth." 00:54:57.83\00:54:59.53 Why do we share? 00:54:59.56\00:55:00.90 Because that judgment is passed. 00:55:00.93\00:55:02.56 We share because He has brought us comfort. 00:55:02.60\00:55:05.30 We share because 00:55:05.33\00:55:06.67 His wells of salvation are inexhaustible. 00:55:06.70\00:55:10.81 When God has done something for you, 00:55:10.84\00:55:12.41 tell somebody else about it. 00:55:12.44\00:55:14.41 Finally, lesson number six, 00:55:14.44\00:55:16.41 the presence of God among His people 00:55:16.44\00:55:19.31 is the climax of salvation. 00:55:19.35\00:55:22.22 Salvation, of course, was purchased for us 00:55:22.25\00:55:24.49 by the blood of Jesus at the cross 00:55:24.52\00:55:26.02 and we accept it by faith and confess our sins. 00:55:26.05\00:55:28.79 But the climax of that is spending eternity with Him. 00:55:28.82\00:55:34.16 Verse 6, 00:55:34.20\00:55:35.76 "Cry out and shout, oh inhabitant of Zion, 00:55:35.80\00:55:39.47 for great is the holy one of Israel, in your midst." 00:55:39.50\00:55:45.67 Remember, in the beginning in the garden, 00:55:45.71\00:55:47.34 Adam and Eve dwelt with God. 00:55:47.38\00:55:49.04 And at the end, Revelation 21:3, 00:55:49.08\00:55:52.48 "I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, 00:55:52.51\00:55:54.55 'Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, 00:55:54.58\00:55:58.72 and He will dwell with them, 00:55:58.75\00:56:00.76 He will set up resonance with them, 00:56:00.79\00:56:03.22 they shall be His people. 00:56:03.26\00:56:04.59 God Himself will be with them and be their God." 00:56:04.63\00:56:07.60 I want to be there. 00:56:07.63\00:56:09.26 Amen. 00:56:09.30\00:56:10.70 Amen and amen. 00:56:10.73\00:56:13.13 All of you did such a wonderful job, 00:56:13.17\00:56:15.84 but that that was fabulous, Jill, 00:56:15.87\00:56:17.97 praise the Lord. 00:56:18.01\00:56:19.34 All right, well, we have just a couple of minutes left. 00:56:19.37\00:56:21.71 We want to get closing thought from each one of you. 00:56:21.74\00:56:26.11 Unto us a child is born, 00:56:26.15\00:56:28.45 and to us a Lamb slain 00:56:28.48\00:56:30.72 from the foundation of the world. 00:56:30.75\00:56:32.72 Christ born, 00:56:32.75\00:56:34.22 Christ given is the foundation of our hopes and of our joys. 00:56:34.26\00:56:40.00 Amen.
