Always good to be here. 00:03:16.26\00:03:18.03 I won't go into how much hair we've lost, 00:03:18.06\00:03:19.79 but hey, the Lord is still good. 00:03:19.83\00:03:21.96 He sets on the throne. 00:03:22.00\00:03:23.53 Okay. 00:03:23.57\00:03:25.13 And, Jill, our vice president and COO. 00:03:25.17\00:03:27.64 And I'm not even gonna talk about hair, 00:03:27.67\00:03:29.44 but I am excited about today's study. 00:03:29.47\00:03:30.87 Okay. 00:03:30.91\00:03:32.24 Pastor Ryan Day, a young man 00:03:32.27\00:03:34.11 who is just continuing to grow on the Lord. 00:03:34.14\00:03:36.44 I appreciate having you here, Ryan. 00:03:36.48\00:03:37.81 Amen, and to that same note, praise God for hair, 00:03:37.85\00:03:40.68 but it's something about hair. 00:03:40.72\00:03:42.05 I'll figure out what to do. 00:03:42.08\00:03:43.49 Yeah. 00:03:43.52\00:03:44.85 Well, and only in the American vernacular 00:03:44.89\00:03:47.39 can hair mean, different things. 00:03:47.42\00:03:49.56 We are all here talking about hair. 00:03:49.59\00:03:51.69 And so, we hope you hear what we have to say. 00:03:51.73\00:03:53.53 Amen. 00:03:53.56\00:03:54.90 But that's the American, 00:03:54.93\00:03:57.67 that's the vernacular of the English language. 00:03:57.70\00:04:00.04 Let's go ahead and do an overview quickly 00:04:00.07\00:04:01.87 of the memory text of lesson number four, 00:04:01.90\00:04:07.34 the memory text is Isaiah 8:17. 00:04:07.38\00:04:10.88 Let's see. 00:04:10.91\00:04:12.25 I'll just go ahead and read that 00:04:12.28\00:04:13.62 since it's a very short one, 00:04:13.65\00:04:14.98 it says, 00:04:15.02\00:04:16.35 "And I will wait on the Lord 00:04:16.38\00:04:17.85 who hides His face from the house of Jacob. 00:04:17.89\00:04:22.42 And I will hope in Him." 00:04:22.46\00:04:25.06 What a text. 00:04:25.09\00:04:26.43 We've been discovering in the Book of Isaiah, 00:04:26.46\00:04:28.96 that the first part of it 00:04:29.00\00:04:30.60 is really expressing God's frustration 00:04:30.63\00:04:33.34 with the house of Jacob, with the house of Israel, 00:04:33.37\00:04:35.17 with the kings 00:04:35.20\00:04:36.54 that are called by His name to lead out 00:04:36.57\00:04:40.91 in showing the people who He is. 00:04:40.94\00:04:43.08 And we've already covered a number of lessons 00:04:43.11\00:04:44.71 that just show us that frustration. 00:04:44.75\00:04:46.88 But I wanna begin with a story here on Sunday. 00:04:46.92\00:04:49.48 It's a very interesting story. 00:04:49.52\00:04:51.32 And I'll just go ahead and read it for you. 00:04:51.35\00:04:53.12 It says, "At a burning building in New York City, 00:04:53.15\00:04:55.56 Harlem, that is, 00:04:55.59\00:04:56.93 a blind girl was perched on the fourth-floor window. 00:04:56.96\00:05:00.86 The fireman had become desperate. 00:05:00.90\00:05:03.43 They couldn't fit the ladder truck 00:05:03.47\00:05:04.93 between the building 00:05:04.97\00:05:06.33 and they couldn't get up to her to jump into the net, 00:05:06.37\00:05:09.94 which she, of course, couldn't see. 00:05:09.97\00:05:12.87 That's a difficult thing. 00:05:12.91\00:05:14.48 Finally, her father arrived 00:05:14.51\00:05:15.91 and shouted through the bullhorn 00:05:15.94\00:05:18.08 that there was a net 00:05:18.11\00:05:20.12 that she was to jump on his command. 00:05:20.15\00:05:22.88 Remember she cannot see. 00:05:22.92\00:05:25.02 The girl jumped, 00:05:25.05\00:05:26.45 it was so completely relaxed 00:05:26.49\00:05:28.62 that she did not break a bone or even strain of muscle 00:05:28.66\00:05:32.19 in the four storey fall. 00:05:32.23\00:05:33.93 Why? 00:05:33.96\00:05:35.30 Because she trusted her father completely. 00:05:35.33\00:05:38.00 When she heard her father's voice, 00:05:38.03\00:05:40.27 she did what he said was best." 00:05:40.30\00:05:43.47 That's so beautiful. 00:05:43.51\00:05:44.91 And we're living in a day and age, 00:05:44.94\00:05:46.27 and even in the climate that we are facing today, 00:05:46.31\00:05:48.71 we must hear our father's voice 00:05:48.74\00:05:51.55 because our day is not much different 00:05:51.58\00:05:53.88 than the days of Isaiah in many, many ways. 00:05:53.92\00:05:56.45 We have distorted religion. 00:05:56.48\00:05:58.55 We have people that claim to be followers of God's Word 00:05:58.59\00:06:00.99 that are teaching things 00:06:01.02\00:06:02.36 that are not in harmony with God's Word 00:06:02.39\00:06:03.73 as Ryan and I were talking about that. 00:06:03.76\00:06:05.36 We have people that have the garb of Christianity, 00:06:05.39\00:06:08.00 but what they're saying is 00:06:08.03\00:06:09.36 just not in harmony with Christ. 00:06:09.40\00:06:10.73 And in some cases, 00:06:10.77\00:06:12.10 many of them are probably unintentionally ignorant, 00:06:12.13\00:06:15.87 but on some levels, 00:06:15.90\00:06:17.24 many of them are very well-informed, 00:06:17.27\00:06:18.91 but choose to avoid God's Word. 00:06:18.94\00:06:20.98 That's why I liked the lesson about the hard way. 00:06:21.01\00:06:24.28 And mine is particularly prophecy fulfilled. 00:06:24.31\00:06:27.95 Now I've said this before 00:06:27.98\00:06:29.98 when we talk about prophecy 00:06:30.02\00:06:31.35 and we look at the Old and New Testament. 00:06:31.39\00:06:32.99 The Old Testament is prophecy concealed. 00:06:33.02\00:06:36.42 The New Testament is prophecy revealed. 00:06:36.46\00:06:39.03 Keep that in mind. 00:06:39.06\00:06:40.40 So, if you're just a New Testament Christian, 00:06:40.43\00:06:42.40 you don't understand prophecy concealed. 00:06:42.43\00:06:45.23 It is important to understand what was concealed 00:06:45.27\00:06:48.14 to appreciate what was revealed. 00:06:48.17\00:06:52.11 And so, when we think about that, 00:06:52.14\00:06:53.71 when we go to Matthew 00:06:53.74\00:06:55.14 or when Jesus says 00:06:55.18\00:06:57.15 these are the fulfillment of what Jeremiah said 00:06:57.18\00:06:59.41 or what the Prophet Isaiah said, 00:06:59.45\00:07:01.98 you got to know what the Prophet Isaiah 00:07:02.02\00:07:03.35 or Jeremiah said 00:07:03.39\00:07:04.72 in order to know that it was fulfilled. 00:07:04.75\00:07:06.76 And when Jesus walked along the road to Emmaus, 00:07:06.79\00:07:09.86 He began at Moses and the prophets. 00:07:09.89\00:07:12.53 But if you're not reading Moses and the prophets, 00:07:12.56\00:07:14.30 and you're saying, 00:07:14.33\00:07:15.66 well, I'm just a New Testament Christian. 00:07:15.70\00:07:17.23 I don't wanna say this disrespectfully, 00:07:17.27\00:07:18.67 but you are four-faced in the dark, 00:07:18.70\00:07:21.04 because the New Testament is just the flashlights end, 00:07:21.07\00:07:24.31 but the batteries behind it is the Old Testament. 00:07:24.34\00:07:27.61 Without the batteries, you will never see the light. 00:07:27.64\00:07:30.05 And so, let's look at a passage in our Sunday's memory text, 00:07:30.08\00:07:34.18 how beautiful it is. 00:07:34.22\00:07:38.39 Isaiah 7:14-16. 00:07:38.42\00:07:43.53 It says, therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign. 00:07:43.56\00:07:47.83 And, Jill, you approached this on one of our passages 00:07:47.86\00:07:50.77 talking about its contemporary meaning 00:07:50.80\00:07:55.00 and its relevance today. 00:07:55.04\00:07:56.94 What it meant to those who were back in that day. 00:07:56.97\00:07:59.37 But I'm gonna talk about its modern-day approach 00:07:59.41\00:08:03.58 and what it means today. 00:08:03.61\00:08:05.05 Isaiah 7:14-16, 00:08:05.08\00:08:06.78 "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: 00:08:06.82\00:08:09.98 Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a Son 00:08:10.02\00:08:12.89 and shall call His name Immanuel. 00:08:12.92\00:08:17.03 Curds and honey He shall eat, 00:08:17.06\00:08:19.69 that He may know to refuse the evil 00:08:19.73\00:08:22.56 and choose the good. 00:08:22.60\00:08:24.43 For before the Child shall know to refuse the evil 00:08:24.47\00:08:29.24 and choose the good, 00:08:29.27\00:08:30.91 the land that you dread 00:08:30.94\00:08:32.57 will be forsaken by both her kings." 00:08:32.61\00:08:35.04 And I appreciate the way you unpack that, Jill. 00:08:35.08\00:08:37.21 So, I'm not gonna, you want to see that 00:08:37.25\00:08:38.78 you need to go back to one of our prior lessons 00:08:38.81\00:08:41.55 how Jill really took the time to make that significant. 00:08:41.58\00:08:45.25 Now, why does Isaiah mention curds and honey 00:08:45.29\00:08:48.02 as the new King James Version talks about it? 00:08:48.06\00:08:52.29 The lesson is about signs. 00:08:52.33\00:08:54.13 Now we find that curds and honey 00:08:54.16\00:08:56.60 refer to the condition that Judah would return to. 00:08:56.63\00:08:59.57 So, this prophecy was saying, 00:08:59.60\00:09:01.30 I know you're in Southern Illinois now, 00:09:01.34\00:09:05.64 but in a few days you're gonna eating. 00:09:05.67\00:09:09.11 I'm gonna just use this terminology 00:09:09.14\00:09:10.81 that if you're from Jamaica, 00:09:10.85\00:09:12.18 you'll know where it associates with right away, 00:09:12.21\00:09:14.12 you'll be eating Ackee and saltfish. 00:09:14.15\00:09:16.65 And somebody might say, I'm from Southern Illinois. 00:09:16.69\00:09:19.85 There is no Ackee and saltfish in Southern Illinois, 00:09:19.89\00:09:23.39 but a person from Jamaica say, 00:09:23.43\00:09:24.76 "Oh, so, we must be going to Jamaica." 00:09:24.79\00:09:27.60 When the Lord mentioned curd and honey, 00:09:27.63\00:09:29.76 He was telling Judah where they're going to be, 00:09:29.80\00:09:32.40 not where they are. 00:09:32.43\00:09:33.77 He was in fact prognosticating the future of their habitation, 00:09:33.80\00:09:38.67 not their present condition. 00:09:38.71\00:09:40.44 So, curds and honey conditions refer to the diet 00:09:40.48\00:09:44.31 that they are going to be partaking of, 00:09:44.35\00:09:46.38 not the diet that they were subject to. 00:09:46.41\00:09:48.78 Last week, we also talked about the evil of nature. 00:09:48.82\00:09:51.65 The evil nature of those 00:09:51.69\00:09:53.62 that require a sign before obedience. 00:09:53.66\00:09:56.59 And you find that the Pharisees asked Jesus for a sign. 00:09:56.62\00:10:01.66 And He said to them, 00:10:01.70\00:10:03.03 "A wicked and adulterous generation 00:10:03.06\00:10:04.57 seeks after a sign." 00:10:04.60\00:10:06.10 The only sign they're going to get 00:10:06.13\00:10:07.47 is a sign of Jonah, 00:10:07.50\00:10:08.90 three days and three nights. 00:10:08.94\00:10:10.27 But let's talk about prophecy and signs. 00:10:10.31\00:10:13.24 Go with me to John Chapter 14. 00:10:13.27\00:10:15.58 Let's look at how significant signs are 00:10:15.61\00:10:17.98 and how relevant prophecy is. 00:10:18.01\00:10:21.42 The people of God are given signs to understand 00:10:21.45\00:10:23.89 how prophecy will be fulfilled, 00:10:23.92\00:10:26.45 but there can be no fulfillment 00:10:26.49\00:10:28.22 until there is first a prognostication 00:10:28.26\00:10:30.23 or a prediction. 00:10:30.26\00:10:31.89 John 14:29, look what Jesus said. 00:10:31.93\00:10:35.96 And He says, 00:10:36.00\00:10:37.33 "And now I have told you before it comes, 00:10:37.37\00:10:40.97 that when it does come to pass," what? 00:10:41.00\00:10:43.97 "You may believe." "You may believe." 00:10:44.01\00:10:46.21 The Book of John is predicated on two major words 00:10:46.24\00:10:50.51 to know, and to believe 00:10:50.55\00:10:52.88 all throughout the Book of John, 00:10:52.91\00:10:54.45 to know, and to, 00:10:54.48\00:10:55.82 and this is life eternal that you may know, 00:10:55.85\00:10:58.45 and also that you may believe. 00:10:58.49\00:11:00.26 When you know, 00:11:00.29\00:11:01.62 now I'm gonna go ahead 00:11:01.66\00:11:02.99 and put the application perfectly square. 00:11:03.02\00:11:04.49 When you know what the prophecy is, 00:11:04.53\00:11:08.36 when it comes to pass, you will believe. 00:11:08.40\00:11:10.70 Here's the importance 00:11:10.73\00:11:12.07 of understanding the Old Testament. 00:11:12.10\00:11:13.44 But if you don't know the prophecy, 00:11:13.47\00:11:15.64 you will think that the fulfillment is incidental. 00:11:15.67\00:11:17.87 You say, "Oh, I wonder why that happened." 00:11:17.91\00:11:20.81 But when you know the prophecy and then it comes to pass, 00:11:20.84\00:11:24.85 you will believe, 00:11:24.88\00:11:26.21 that's why Jesus says I've told you 00:11:26.25\00:11:28.18 so that when it does take place, 00:11:28.22\00:11:29.95 you will believe. 00:11:29.98\00:11:31.32 Look at Luke 4:21. 00:11:31.35\00:11:33.86 He used this very, very clearly. 00:11:33.89\00:11:36.62 Luke 4:21. 00:11:36.66\00:11:39.39 And once again, Jesus says, 00:11:39.43\00:11:40.76 "And He began to say to them 00:11:40.80\00:11:43.20 today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." 00:11:43.23\00:11:48.60 But once again, 00:11:48.64\00:11:50.07 if you don't know the scripture that He's referring to, 00:11:50.11\00:11:52.71 you'll never be able to appreciate the fulfillment. 00:11:52.74\00:11:55.21 So, don't applaud yourself 00:11:55.24\00:11:57.51 to be just a Matthew to Revelation. 00:11:57.55\00:11:59.75 And then the Book of Psalms, 00:11:59.78\00:12:01.45 because I've seen many Bibles, Shelley, being sold, 00:12:01.48\00:12:03.75 they're sort of very small ones. 00:12:03.79\00:12:05.75 They have the Book of Psalms 00:12:05.79\00:12:07.12 and they have Matthew to Revelation and people say, 00:12:07.16\00:12:09.32 "I've got all I need." 00:12:09.36\00:12:12.33 Well, in fact, tell that to the Lord, 00:12:12.36\00:12:15.26 because many of you don't understand that 00:12:15.30\00:12:16.70 when the Bible says 00:12:16.73\00:12:18.07 all scripture is given by inspiration of God, 00:12:18.10\00:12:20.27 there was not a single reference 00:12:20.30\00:12:21.64 being made to the New Testament. 00:12:21.67\00:12:23.57 It was the Old Testament, right, Pastor Kenny? 00:12:23.61\00:12:25.07 That's right. Right, Pastor Ryan? 00:12:25.11\00:12:26.54 There was not a single reference 00:12:26.57\00:12:27.91 being made to the Old Testament. 00:12:27.94\00:12:29.48 When the Apostle Paul was speaking about 00:12:29.51\00:12:32.25 the holy men of God speak 00:12:32.28\00:12:33.62 as they were moved by the Holy Spirit, 00:12:33.65\00:12:35.58 he was referring to the writing of the Old Testament. 00:12:35.62\00:12:38.25 He was making absolutely no reference at all 00:12:38.29\00:12:41.39 to the New Testament. 00:12:41.42\00:12:42.76 So, don't fall into the rabbit hole 00:12:42.79\00:12:45.23 Don't fall into the rabbit hole 00:12:45.26\00:12:46.59 of thinking that all I need is the New Testament. 00:12:46.63\00:12:48.46 Here's another one, Matthew 24:33. 00:12:48.50\00:12:52.47 It is not just a prognostication 00:12:52.50\00:12:54.00 that is important, 00:12:54.04\00:12:55.37 but also the fulfillment. 00:12:55.40\00:12:57.71 Matthew 24:33-34, 00:12:57.74\00:13:00.44 Jesus made it very clear. 00:13:00.48\00:13:01.84 That's why many people believe in things 00:13:01.88\00:13:03.21 like the rapture. 00:13:03.24\00:13:04.58 They say, "Jesus could come any day now." 00:13:04.61\00:13:06.48 You know why? 00:13:06.51\00:13:07.85 Because they don't know what signs to look for. 00:13:07.88\00:13:09.58 It's like we could get off any exit. 00:13:09.62\00:13:11.82 Not any exit on 57 Southeast is gonna lead you to 3ABN. 00:13:11.85\00:13:17.26 Any exit, now know, you've got to know the exit. 00:13:17.29\00:13:20.10 Here's the words of Jesus. 00:13:20.13\00:13:21.73 He says, "So you also," 00:13:21.76\00:13:23.47 verse 33 of Matthew 24, 00:13:23.50\00:13:25.33 "when you see all these things 00:13:25.37\00:13:27.47 know that it is near at the doors. 00:13:27.50\00:13:29.80 Assuredly, I say to you, 00:13:29.84\00:13:32.37 this generation will by no means pass away 00:13:32.41\00:13:35.61 till all these things take place." 00:13:35.64\00:13:38.41 And what you may not understand is 00:13:38.45\00:13:40.82 out of the 404 verses in Revelation, 00:13:40.85\00:13:44.19 276 of those are found in the Old Testament. 00:13:44.22\00:13:47.02 That's right. 00:13:47.06\00:13:48.39 See, John was not coming up with anything new, 00:13:48.42\00:13:50.66 but the Lord was taking all of what He told 00:13:50.69\00:13:53.16 Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, 00:13:53.19\00:13:56.30 the minor prophets, the major prophets. 00:13:56.33\00:13:58.43 He was conglomerating them into the Book of Revelation. 00:13:58.47\00:14:02.00 For example, the seal of God 00:14:02.04\00:14:03.74 is expanded in Ezekiel Chapter 9. 00:14:03.77\00:14:06.68 But John gives just a glimpse in Revelation Chapter 7. 00:14:06.71\00:14:09.54 Once again, if you don't know the prophecy, 00:14:09.58\00:14:12.68 you'll not know the fulfillment. 00:14:12.71\00:14:15.22 1 Peter 1:19-21 before I transition to Shelley. 00:14:15.25\00:14:19.99 Unchanging nature of God is revealed through prophecy. 00:14:20.02\00:14:23.63 He says, 00:14:23.66\00:14:24.99 "And so we have a prophetic word confirmed 00:14:25.03\00:14:27.26 or a more sure word of prophecy," 00:14:27.30\00:14:29.03 as Pastor Kenny says in the King James version, 00:14:29.06\00:14:32.30 "which you do well to heed 00:14:32.33\00:14:34.50 as a light that shines in a dark place 00:14:34.54\00:14:37.31 until the day dawns 00:14:37.34\00:14:38.91 and the morning star rises in your hearts." 00:14:38.94\00:14:42.64 Verse 20, 00:14:42.68\00:14:44.01 "Knowing this first that no prophecy of scripture 00:14:44.05\00:14:46.88 is of any private interpretation 00:14:46.92\00:14:49.42 for prophecy never came by the will of man, 00:14:49.45\00:14:52.35 but holy men of God spoke 00:14:52.39\00:14:54.19 as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 00:14:54.22\00:14:57.56 Understand the prophecy to appreciate the fulfillment. 00:14:57.59\00:15:01.80 Amen and amen. 00:15:01.83\00:15:05.03 That's right. 00:15:05.07\00:15:06.67 Now, we're trying to be careful here. 00:15:06.70\00:15:09.77 You can breathe. All right. 00:15:09.80\00:15:12.71 You know, having grown up in a New Testament Church 00:15:12.74\00:15:16.38 only having read the New Testament. 00:15:16.41\00:15:18.81 I so appreciate what you said, 00:15:18.85\00:15:20.42 because I didn't even understand grace 00:15:20.45\00:15:23.39 until I studied in the Old Testament. 00:15:23.42\00:15:26.35 And that's where I really understood. 00:15:26.39\00:15:28.59 Okay. 00:15:28.62\00:15:29.96 My lesson is Monday, 00:15:29.99\00:15:32.06 "Foreseeing Consequences." 00:15:32.09\00:15:37.83 In other words, 00:15:37.87\00:15:39.20 you ought to know what's coming. 00:15:39.23\00:15:40.57 So, this lesson covers 00:15:40.60\00:15:42.80 Isaiah 17 through 25. 00:15:42.84\00:15:48.68 Let me just kind of set this up. 00:15:48.71\00:15:51.35 The kingdom of God's people was divided. 00:15:51.38\00:15:55.85 You had Israel, 00:15:55.88\00:15:57.22 which was also called Ephraim 00:15:57.25\00:15:59.35 in the Northern kingdom there's 10 tribes. 00:15:59.39\00:16:02.19 Then you had the two tribes of Judah, 00:16:02.22\00:16:04.36 which is down where Bethlehem and everything is. 00:16:04.39\00:16:07.20 Ahaz was the king of Judah. 00:16:07.23\00:16:09.83 He was an evil king and he reigned 16 years. 00:16:09.86\00:16:14.10 What his problem was, 00:16:14.14\00:16:16.27 Ahaz really gets a bee in his bonnet 00:16:16.30\00:16:19.27 because the Northern kingdom of Israel 00:16:19.31\00:16:23.81 is going to make an alliance 00:16:23.85\00:16:29.38 with Syria 00:16:29.42\00:16:30.82 and they're gonna come attack the Judah. 00:16:30.85\00:16:35.19 So, he's all concerned about this. 00:16:35.22\00:16:38.69 He goes to Isaiah, Isaiah tells him, 00:16:38.73\00:16:42.86 "Hey, don't do this because he wants to make... 00:16:42.90\00:16:48.67 Ahaz wants to make an alliance with the king of Assyria. 00:16:48.70\00:16:55.28 And so, Isaiah comes to him and says, don't do this. 00:16:55.31\00:17:00.52 This is not gonna end well. 00:17:00.55\00:17:02.45 The Assyrians had an insatiable thirst for power. 00:17:02.48\00:17:08.86 And so, he even asks Him, God tells him, 00:17:08.89\00:17:11.89 "Hey, if you want a sign, just ask me for a sign, 00:17:11.93\00:17:15.60 but Ahaz rejected that. 00:17:15.63\00:17:17.50 And you know, you might, when you first look at it, 00:17:17.53\00:17:19.50 when he says, "Oh, I don't wanna test God." 00:17:19.53\00:17:22.14 Well, actually he was being obstinate 00:17:22.17\00:17:25.47 because God is asking him to do this. 00:17:25.51\00:17:28.64 And Ahaz refused the prophet's advice. 00:17:28.68\00:17:32.81 So, he was ruled 00:17:32.85\00:17:34.25 more by his emotions of fear than faith. 00:17:34.28\00:17:37.19 So, what happens? 00:17:37.22\00:17:38.75 He turns down God's guarantee of deliverance 00:17:38.79\00:17:44.96 and he chooses an alliance with Tiglath-Pileser 00:17:44.99\00:17:50.90 who is the king of Assyria. 00:17:50.93\00:17:55.04 So, what happened was, 00:17:55.07\00:17:57.01 Ahaz put himself in a war against God. 00:17:57.04\00:18:00.48 And I love Isaiah 7:13. 00:18:00.51\00:18:02.74 Isaiah says to him, 00:18:02.78\00:18:04.35 "Hear now, O house of David, " 00:18:04.38\00:18:06.51 he's talking to the king in Judah, 00:18:06.55\00:18:09.42 "is it a small thing for you to weary men, 00:18:09.45\00:18:14.16 but will you weary my God also?" 00:18:14.19\00:18:17.36 So, now what happens is the story goes on. 00:18:17.39\00:18:20.63 He gets some good news. 00:18:20.66\00:18:22.43 All right, Syria and Israel are gonna be wiped out. 00:18:22.46\00:18:27.84 Assyria will take care of them. 00:18:27.87\00:18:29.64 They're gonna take care of them. 00:18:29.67\00:18:32.14 But here's the bad news. 00:18:32.17\00:18:34.24 After Assyria takes care of Syria 00:18:34.28\00:18:37.41 and the Northern kingdom, 00:18:37.45\00:18:39.61 they're coming after you bud. 00:18:39.65\00:18:41.98 So, He says in Isaiah 7:17, 00:18:42.02\00:18:46.62 God is gonna use the Assyrians to invade Judah. 00:18:46.65\00:18:50.56 The Lord will bring the king of Assyria upon you 00:18:50.59\00:18:52.89 and your people and your father's house, 00:18:52.93\00:18:56.00 days that have not come since the day that Ephraim, 00:18:56.03\00:19:00.64 that's the Northern Israel Ephraim, 00:19:00.67\00:19:03.41 departed from Judah. 00:19:03.44\00:19:05.37 So, as later events showed what happened. 00:19:05.41\00:19:11.08 King Ahaz had to pay as a vassal of Assyria. 00:19:11.11\00:19:15.28 He had to pay them, 00:19:15.32\00:19:18.79 what do you call it when they pay their? 00:19:18.82\00:19:20.16 Tribute. 00:19:20.19\00:19:21.52 What? Tribute. 00:19:21.56\00:19:22.89 Tribute. 00:19:22.92\00:19:24.26 That's a good word, heavy tributes. 00:19:24.29\00:19:25.63 That's the word I'm looking for. 00:19:25.66\00:19:27.96 But when you look down at verse 20, 00:19:28.00\00:19:31.73 it says that the land is gonna be laid bare as a razor. 00:19:31.77\00:19:36.40 Verse 21 and 22 says that 00:19:36.44\00:19:39.11 cultivation and agriculture would cease. 00:19:39.14\00:19:42.64 And there'd just be a few of the inhabitants 00:19:42.68\00:19:45.58 that are supporting themselves 00:19:45.61\00:19:47.08 by keeping a few cows and sheeps. 00:19:47.12\00:19:49.65 And the only nourishment they had would be dairy produce 00:19:49.68\00:19:53.09 and honey from wild bees. 00:19:53.12\00:19:55.16 Then verse 23 through 25, says that 00:19:55.19\00:19:57.93 thorns are gonna come up everywhere 00:19:57.96\00:20:00.66 after Assyria attacks you 00:20:00.70\00:20:02.86 and the hills that were once carefully cultivated 00:20:02.90\00:20:06.53 are just gonna, have a few cattle 00:20:06.57\00:20:09.54 roaming on them and wild beasts. 00:20:09.57\00:20:11.77 So, sorrows of every kind are gonna to come upon them 00:20:11.81\00:20:15.01 because they're rejecting God's salvation. 00:20:15.04\00:20:19.71 Isn't God amazing? 00:20:19.75\00:20:22.85 Basically, God is saying, 00:20:22.88\00:20:24.29 if you're gonna refuse My grace, 00:20:24.32\00:20:26.76 you're gonna be unfruitful. 00:20:26.79\00:20:28.89 So, here's something that we've got to remember, 00:20:28.92\00:20:32.03 the coming of the Assyrian king when he took over Judah, 00:20:32.06\00:20:38.90 guess what? 00:20:38.93\00:20:40.27 That was the beginning of the end for Judah. 00:20:40.30\00:20:42.70 It laid the foundation for the Babylonians 00:20:42.74\00:20:45.81 to come in and conquer. 00:20:45.84\00:20:47.58 Now, if we read, I've got just a few minutes. 00:20:47.61\00:20:50.35 If we read 2 Kings 16:10-18, 00:20:50.38\00:20:55.58 and what I love about Isaiah and the Kings and Chronicles is 00:20:55.62\00:21:00.02 we see Isaiah was the one 00:21:00.06\00:21:05.03 who wrote the biography of Hezekiah and everything. 00:21:05.06\00:21:07.80 So, we always see this line up 00:21:07.83\00:21:09.70 with what's going on in history. 00:21:09.73\00:21:11.77 So, in 2 Kings 16:10-18, 00:21:11.80\00:21:15.80 let me just kind of set this up. 00:21:15.84\00:21:18.01 Ahaz has willingly become the vassal 00:21:18.04\00:21:23.08 for the Assyrian king 00:21:23.11\00:21:24.98 in exchange for this military protection. 00:21:25.01\00:21:27.92 So, he pledges that 00:21:27.95\00:21:29.92 Judah is gonna serve Assyria from now on, 00:21:29.95\00:21:32.55 and not only did they have to pay tribute, 00:21:32.59\00:21:34.99 what happens is 00:21:35.02\00:21:37.19 it was basically in the pagan worldview is that, 00:21:37.23\00:21:43.23 if you were under their influence, 00:21:43.26\00:21:48.07 they believed that your God had to bow down to their gods. 00:21:48.10\00:21:52.91 So, they looked at Jehovah as Yahweh as just, 00:21:52.94\00:21:57.75 they treated him as a local god, 00:21:57.78\00:21:59.91 that should be in submission to their Assyrian God Ashur. 00:21:59.95\00:22:05.02 So, they route and captured Damascus 00:22:05.05\00:22:09.36 and then Ahaz travels to Damascus. 00:22:09.39\00:22:13.56 And guess what happens while he's there? 00:22:13.60\00:22:15.86 He is visiting King Tiglath-Pileser 00:22:15.90\00:22:20.47 and he sees the altar there, 00:22:20.50\00:22:25.94 a pagan altar. 00:22:25.97\00:22:28.38 He sends a sketch up 00:22:28.41\00:22:29.78 to the high priest back in Judah. 00:22:29.81\00:22:32.25 The high priest becomes complicit in this 00:22:32.28\00:22:34.65 because Ahaz is like, 00:22:34.68\00:22:36.02 okay, we're gonna build this pagan altar 00:22:36.05\00:22:38.29 and we'll show them how we're following them. 00:22:38.32\00:22:41.42 So, they build this pagan altar. 00:22:41.46\00:22:43.73 They totally remove things that were in the sanctuary. 00:22:43.76\00:22:49.33 They move everything around to give this the dominance. 00:22:49.36\00:22:52.57 And then Ahaz serves this pagan. 00:22:52.60\00:22:57.81 He serves at this pagan altar instead of serving God. 00:22:57.84\00:23:02.91 So, what happens, 00:23:02.94\00:23:04.31 he's dedicating the new altar offering sacrifices. 00:23:04.35\00:23:08.62 And on behalf of Israel, 00:23:08.65\00:23:11.65 he's now introduced idolatry in a big way. 00:23:11.69\00:23:17.96 So, when you get to 2 Chronicles 28, 00:23:17.99\00:23:21.23 it powerfully sums up 00:23:21.26\00:23:23.83 what results from Ahaz's reliance on Assyria. 00:23:23.87\00:23:30.47 And listen to this, we just have a minute left. 00:23:30.51\00:23:33.61 Says, 2 Chronicles 28:19, 00:23:33.64\00:23:36.58 "The Lord brought Judah low 00:23:36.61\00:23:38.18 because of Ahaz king of Israel, 00:23:38.21\00:23:40.02 for he had encouraged moral decline in Judah 00:23:40.05\00:23:43.28 had been continually unfaithful to the Lord. 00:23:43.32\00:23:47.02 Also, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came to him 00:23:47.06\00:23:52.46 and distressed him, and did not assist him." 00:23:52.49\00:23:56.56 So, that was just a precursor of the great invasions 00:23:56.60\00:24:00.14 that are gonna come under Sargon 00:24:00.17\00:24:02.60 and Sennacherib 00:24:02.64\00:24:04.67 who were some of the famous Assyrian kings later. 00:24:04.71\00:24:08.41 And it says, 00:24:08.44\00:24:09.78 "Ahaz took part of the treasures 00:24:09.81\00:24:11.21 from the house of the Lord, from the house of the king, 00:24:11.25\00:24:12.78 and from the leaders, 00:24:12.81\00:24:14.15 he gave it to the king of Assyria, 00:24:14.18\00:24:15.98 but he didn't help him." 00:24:16.02\00:24:17.35 And then it says, 00:24:17.39\00:24:18.72 "Now in the time of his distress King Ahaz 00:24:18.75\00:24:21.29 became increasingly unfaithful to the Lord 00:24:21.32\00:24:26.23 and served the gods of Damascus." 00:24:26.26\00:24:30.07 And I'm out of time, but here's the bottom line. 00:24:30.10\00:24:33.97 We're gonna reap a bitter fruit if you trust in princes, 00:24:34.00\00:24:38.71 rather than trusting in God. 00:24:38.74\00:24:41.61 That's the bottom line. 00:24:41.64\00:24:43.21 That's what happened to Ahaz. 00:24:43.24\00:24:46.72 And the same thing, 2 Corinthians 4:18 says that 00:24:46.75\00:24:51.42 we look at things which are seen 00:24:51.45\00:24:54.62 or we do not look at the things which are seen, 00:24:54.66\00:24:56.69 but we look at the things which are unseen, 00:24:56.73\00:25:00.53 not the temporary, but the eternal. 00:25:00.56\00:25:03.26 Keep your eyes on Jesus. 00:25:03.30\00:25:04.63 Praise God. Amen. 00:25:04.67\00:25:06.00 Thank you, Shelley, foreseeing consequences. 00:25:06.03\00:25:10.07 As she said it, you reap what you sow. 00:25:10.11\00:25:12.04 There is no getting away from that. 00:25:12.07\00:25:14.01 We're gonna just take a short break 00:25:14.04\00:25:15.51 and we gonna come back for Tuesday's lesson. 00:25:15.54\00:25:18.05 So, don't go away. 00:25:18.08\00:25:19.41 We'll be right back. 00:25:19.45\00:25:20.78 Ever wish you could watch 00:25:24.89\00:25:26.22 a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel again, 00:25:26.25\00:25:28.36 or share it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter? 00:25:28.39\00:25:31.49 Well, you can by visiting 3abnsabbathschoolpanel.com. 00:25:31.53\00:25:36.40 A clean design makes it easy 00:25:36.43\00:25:38.93 to find the program you're looking for. 00:25:38.97\00:25:41.14 There are also links to the Adult Bible Study Guide 00:25:41.17\00:25:44.47 so you can follow along. 00:25:44.51\00:25:46.34 Sharing is easy. 00:25:46.37\00:25:47.71 Just click share and choose your favorite social media. 00:25:47.74\00:25:50.85 Share a link, save a life for eternity. 00:25:50.88\00:25:54.88 Hello, friends. 00:25:54.92\00:25:56.25 Welcome back to Sabbath School Panel. 00:25:56.28\00:25:57.62 We're gonna continue on Tuesday with Pastor Kenny Shelton 00:25:57.65\00:26:00.36 and the lesson is entitled, 00:26:00.39\00:26:01.72 "What's in a Name?" 00:26:01.76\00:26:03.12 Pastor Kenny? 00:26:03.16\00:26:04.49 Tuesday's lesson certainly is what's in the name. 00:26:04.53\00:26:06.46 And I found out there's a whole lot 00:26:06.49\00:26:08.16 in this name 00:26:08.20\00:26:09.53 that I will try to pronounce a few moments 00:26:09.56\00:26:12.50 and I'll just make this statement. 00:26:12.53\00:26:13.87 Now, I'll go out at one time and then I will refer to him 00:26:13.90\00:26:17.24 as Isaiah's second son. 00:26:17.27\00:26:20.18 So, we've got that right, isn't that good? 00:26:20.21\00:26:22.04 All right. Praise the Lord for that. 00:26:22.08\00:26:24.98 We're encouraged in Tuesday's lesson 00:26:25.01\00:26:27.28 to read Isaiah 8:1-10, 00:26:27.32\00:26:29.62 and most of us up here sometime we're kind of in a hurry. 00:26:29.65\00:26:32.15 There's so much to cover. 00:26:32.19\00:26:33.56 And you'd like to say so many things. 00:26:33.59\00:26:35.29 We just rely on the Holy Spirit 00:26:35.32\00:26:36.66 to try to put our hearts and our minds 00:26:36.69\00:26:38.06 and certainly can work through ears 00:26:38.09\00:26:39.73 the things that are important 00:26:39.76\00:26:41.10 that will help you in your growth. 00:26:41.13\00:26:43.26 We're gonna give an overview of the verses first. 00:26:43.30\00:26:46.50 Now, remember Isaiah 8:1-10, an overview, 00:26:46.53\00:26:49.30 and then kind of go back and we say unpack, 00:26:49.34\00:26:51.57 and go back and look at the kind of verse at a time. 00:26:51.61\00:26:55.11 So, let's go back to that. 00:26:55.14\00:26:56.48 But I circled something I thought in my lesson, 00:26:56.51\00:26:58.51 I thought it was very good. 00:26:58.55\00:26:59.91 Isaiah 8:1-10, now again, this is all in a nutshell here, 00:26:59.95\00:27:04.02 shows the destruction that would come quickly 00:27:04.05\00:27:07.29 upon the kingdom of Israel and Syria 00:27:07.32\00:27:10.06 by the king of Assyria. 00:27:10.09\00:27:12.19 For what? For Israel's sins. 00:27:12.23\00:27:15.00 Now, this part of the lesson, what we're doing here? 00:27:15.03\00:27:17.33 It's showing that 00:27:17.37\00:27:18.70 you both brought it out really well 00:27:18.73\00:27:20.60 some good foundational things 00:27:20.64\00:27:22.10 that there was gonna be some destruction. 00:27:22.14\00:27:24.21 There's going to be some battles that went on 00:27:24.24\00:27:26.27 and God is saying right quick, it's gonna be in a hurry. 00:27:26.31\00:27:28.94 It's gonna come very quickly. 00:27:28.98\00:27:30.38 And you know, kind of like 00:27:30.41\00:27:31.75 where we're at in the end of time, 00:27:31.78\00:27:33.11 things are gonna happen rather quickly, 00:27:33.15\00:27:34.48 and we need to be ready. 00:27:34.52\00:27:35.85 I'm looking at Isaiah 00:27:35.88\00:27:37.22 and pastor mentioned while ago too. 00:27:37.25\00:27:38.85 To make an application to today is so wonderful 00:27:38.89\00:27:41.52 that we can do that, 00:27:41.56\00:27:42.89 you know, and keep it in the context of scripture, 00:27:42.92\00:27:44.46 we need to do that. 00:27:44.49\00:27:45.83 Now, if there's destruction coming. 00:27:45.86\00:27:48.23 I love it again, Isaiah, 00:27:48.26\00:27:49.70 God makes provisions for those who love 00:27:49.73\00:27:53.40 and respect Him and to follow Him. 00:27:53.44\00:27:55.50 It's not just destruction is coming, 00:27:55.54\00:27:56.87 that's all she wrote. 00:27:56.91\00:27:58.24 He said, destruction is coming, it's going rather quickly, 00:27:58.27\00:28:00.48 but provision is going to be made 00:28:00.51\00:28:02.08 for those who are willing to listen 00:28:02.11\00:28:03.51 and those who are willing to follow Him. 00:28:03.55\00:28:06.28 That's despite all of Israel's mistakes 00:28:06.31\00:28:09.25 over and over and over, we look at it and we say, 00:28:09.28\00:28:10.99 surely, they can't be God's people, 00:28:11.02\00:28:12.42 surely this can't happen here. 00:28:12.45\00:28:14.19 Praise God by His grace reaches out. 00:28:14.22\00:28:17.26 The arm of love reaches out and gives them one more time. 00:28:17.29\00:28:20.83 Because it was in Hebrew 7:25, 00:28:20.86\00:28:22.83 He's willing to save to the utmost, right? 00:28:22.86\00:28:25.40 And so, to the utmost, He's reaching out. 00:28:25.43\00:28:27.54 And if they repent and turn back to Him, 00:28:27.57\00:28:29.40 so, you know, we're looking to promises, 00:28:29.44\00:28:31.17 same God, same promises. 00:28:31.21\00:28:33.64 We can claim those promises like never before. 00:28:33.68\00:28:36.34 And it seems clear. 00:28:36.38\00:28:37.71 And I think it was brought out 00:28:37.75\00:28:39.08 in the first two parts of our lesson 00:28:39.11\00:28:40.45 that you can see too, 00:28:40.48\00:28:41.82 that there's some similarities here in Chapter 8. 00:28:41.85\00:28:44.09 Chapter 8 is actually a continuation of Chapter 7, 00:28:44.12\00:28:48.32 kind of interesting here. 00:28:48.36\00:28:49.69 So, eight is considered to be a sequel to seven. 00:28:49.72\00:28:54.30 It gets where it goes on here, right. 00:28:54.33\00:28:55.86 And also, it helps to explain it more too. 00:28:55.90\00:28:58.40 So, the prophecy itself 00:28:58.43\00:29:00.14 is also closely related to that 00:29:00.17\00:29:02.60 of their proceeding chapter. 00:29:02.64\00:29:04.34 So, there's awful lot here that we can all study 00:29:04.37\00:29:06.84 and certainly come up with a lot of good things. 00:29:06.88\00:29:08.58 In verse 1, Isaiah 8 simply says here, 00:29:08.61\00:29:12.25 God says to the prophet, take a great role and do" 00:29:12.28\00:29:15.08 what with it? 00:29:15.12\00:29:16.45 And write this prophecy 00:29:16.48\00:29:17.82 concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz. 00:29:17.85\00:29:20.66 That's it. Okay. That's the name. 00:29:20.69\00:29:22.59 Meaning make speed the spoil, isn't that right? 00:29:25.33\00:29:28.36 Hasten to the prey. 00:29:28.40\00:29:30.50 Now, again, this was Isaiah's second son 00:29:30.53\00:29:33.23 and that's where we relate to him 00:29:33.27\00:29:35.40 as a second son. 00:29:35.44\00:29:36.81 So, something was going on here in the name of this son 00:29:36.84\00:29:40.28 said, get a scroll, told Isaiah. 00:29:40.31\00:29:42.38 Now this is interesting to me at least as I studied it, 00:29:42.41\00:29:46.58 this was to be done 00:29:46.61\00:29:48.45 before his second son was conceived. 00:29:48.48\00:29:52.72 Did everybody get that out of this lesson? 00:29:52.75\00:29:55.02 Before, so you talk about had to be a man of faith 00:29:55.06\00:29:59.76 and the prophecy was going to be sure. 00:29:59.79\00:30:02.16 And so, he told him, he said, you know, 00:30:02.20\00:30:03.53 the prophet was to write the prophecy down it said here, 00:30:03.57\00:30:07.27 because remember the boy's name, second son, 00:30:07.30\00:30:10.11 his name was going to be make speed the spoil 00:30:10.14\00:30:13.21 hasten to the prey. 00:30:13.24\00:30:14.58 Other words, 00:30:14.61\00:30:15.94 this disaster was coming upon God's people so quick, 00:30:15.98\00:30:19.01 it would make your head swim. 00:30:19.05\00:30:21.22 And God said right now to the prophet, 00:30:21.25\00:30:22.78 he said, look, Isaiah, 00:30:22.82\00:30:24.15 get here, get in, write the prophecy down. 00:30:24.19\00:30:26.45 And then I want you to publish it. 00:30:26.49\00:30:28.02 Other words, put it down and publish it. 00:30:28.06\00:30:29.72 And then I want you to be left on record 00:30:29.76\00:30:32.66 so people can come and start reading it quickly. 00:30:32.69\00:30:34.96 And they will see what this name really means. 00:30:35.00\00:30:38.00 And they'll see to the extent 00:30:38.03\00:30:39.37 that something disastrous is going to happen. 00:30:39.40\00:30:41.30 And then everybody will begin to tell her 00:30:41.34\00:30:43.94 about disaster is coming. 00:30:43.97\00:30:46.17 Now why? Because God loves us. 00:30:46.21\00:30:48.44 Isn't that right? 00:30:48.48\00:30:49.81 He says he would do what before, 00:30:49.84\00:30:51.18 he would warn His people before anything happens. 00:30:51.21\00:30:53.35 Praise God for that. 00:30:53.38\00:30:55.45 So, here's what we know for sure. 00:30:55.48\00:30:57.85 Pastor John, you mentioned it 00:30:57.89\00:31:00.29 where it says there that and I've told you before, 00:31:00.32\00:31:03.73 you remember that I told you before. 00:31:03.76\00:31:05.23 So, when these things what? 00:31:05.26\00:31:06.70 Come to pass, 00:31:06.73\00:31:08.06 then you will know, you will believe. 00:31:08.10\00:31:10.17 And I think that's very interesting here. 00:31:10.20\00:31:12.03 Write it down, 00:31:12.07\00:31:13.40 tell them it's going to happen, publish it, 00:31:13.44\00:31:15.60 get some witnesses in there 00:31:15.64\00:31:16.97 because you're gonna have to sign. 00:31:17.01\00:31:18.34 Somebody is gonna say he did that before, 00:31:18.37\00:31:20.11 he said this before ever took place. 00:31:20.14\00:31:22.51 I would say before the wife was ever gonna have the child. 00:31:22.54\00:31:24.45 So, that's the lot of stuff to put down. 00:31:24.48\00:31:27.22 So, He's telling her, He said right here, 00:31:27.25\00:31:28.72 the title of the prophecy 00:31:28.75\00:31:30.12 got the attention of the people concerning 00:31:30.15\00:31:32.72 know what was going to take place. 00:31:32.75\00:31:34.92 And, of course, they too were to pass on the information. 00:31:34.96\00:31:37.63 Just like when you hear things, 00:31:37.66\00:31:38.99 when you go to church, you hear Bible, 00:31:39.03\00:31:40.70 you hear a truth, what do we do with it? 00:31:40.73\00:31:42.73 Keep it to ourself. 00:31:42.76\00:31:44.10 No. We'd pass it on, right? 00:31:44.13\00:31:45.83 Continue to pass it on. 00:31:45.87\00:31:47.60 Verse 2, the prophet had two witnesses with him. 00:31:47.64\00:31:50.54 Bare record of what was taking place. 00:31:50.57\00:31:53.21 Now, again, what does a witness do? 00:31:53.24\00:31:54.61 They attest to what has happened? 00:31:54.64\00:31:56.54 Notice this, that they had watched him 00:31:56.58\00:31:59.11 as he was writing it down, 00:31:59.15\00:32:01.45 then they had to sign their names. 00:32:01.48\00:32:03.25 Make sure it was true. 00:32:03.28\00:32:05.02 And to me, that's in harmony with scripture 00:32:05.05\00:32:07.66 in Matthew 18:16, 00:32:07.69\00:32:09.49 the Bible says, under two or three witnesses, 00:32:09.52\00:32:12.66 when you do something, have a witness. 00:32:12.69\00:32:14.43 And we're told that we need to do that sometime 00:32:14.46\00:32:16.23 when we deal with church issues, right? 00:32:16.26\00:32:19.03 We need to make sure we take some witnesses along 00:32:19.07\00:32:21.10 because sometime 00:32:21.14\00:32:22.47 things can be a little bit out of order. 00:32:22.50\00:32:24.84 But if you have the witnesses, praise God for that. 00:32:24.87\00:32:26.71 Verse 3, hurrying right along, speaks of Isaiah's wife, 00:32:26.74\00:32:30.05 as one who may have been a prophet or prophetess of God, 00:32:30.08\00:32:34.82 had the gift there. 00:32:34.85\00:32:36.18 But Judges 4:4 talks about using the word prophetess here 00:32:36.22\00:32:39.45 or maybe she was, you know, referred to as, 00:32:39.49\00:32:42.22 because she was the wife of Isaiah. 00:32:42.26\00:32:44.49 So, we just kind of a little more study on that 00:32:44.53\00:32:46.13 if person wants to do that. 00:32:46.16\00:32:47.50 Verse 4, the prophecy. 00:32:47.53\00:32:49.60 Remember prophecy is death destruction that was coming 00:32:49.63\00:32:53.23 before the child, now notice this, 00:32:53.27\00:32:55.20 here's how fast, 00:32:55.24\00:32:56.57 before the child could say my father or my mother. 00:32:56.60\00:33:00.51 Before I was just talking about here 00:33:03.01\00:33:04.48 before there was like one, 00:33:04.51\00:33:06.11 when your one year of age, 00:33:06.15\00:33:08.48 you know, the kids usually time, 00:33:08.52\00:33:10.89 dada, mama, is that right? 00:33:10.92\00:33:14.39 What time they're one or two years old. 00:33:14.42\00:33:16.22 So, they're saying this disaster, 00:33:16.26\00:33:18.23 this is what's gonna happen to Israel, 00:33:18.26\00:33:20.53 what's gonna happen? 00:33:20.56\00:33:21.90 Because of their idol worship, 00:33:21.93\00:33:23.57 because of their refusing to follow God, 00:33:23.60\00:33:25.37 it's going to happen within one to two years. 00:33:25.40\00:33:27.84 I mean, this really boils it right down in Judah. 00:33:27.87\00:33:31.24 So, you read a little more of that. 00:33:31.27\00:33:32.77 And we read, I'll take Samuel 7:4-7. 00:33:32.81\00:33:35.41 Verse 7, 00:33:35.44\00:33:36.78 it's talking about the waters of the river of Assyria. 00:33:36.81\00:33:38.85 So, it's even telling how it was going to take place. 00:33:38.88\00:33:41.48 Now, I've got a lot more right here, 00:33:41.52\00:33:43.75 but I just had something this morning that struck me as 00:33:43.79\00:33:45.59 I was praying about it and reading about it. 00:33:45.62\00:33:46.99 And the Lord led me to this and I'm just gonna read it, 00:33:47.02\00:33:48.69 share it with you if it'd be all right, 00:33:48.72\00:33:50.26 because I think as Pastor John was mentioning, 00:33:50.29\00:33:52.26 the things that's happened here is for us too today, 00:33:52.29\00:33:55.80 if we can take it 00:33:55.83\00:33:57.17 and get some principle out of it. 00:33:57.20\00:33:59.07 And so here in the story of Prophets and Kings, 00:33:59.10\00:34:02.60 page 330. 00:34:02.64\00:34:04.74 It says, "As the apostate king near the end of his reign, " 00:34:04.77\00:34:08.04 something you were talking about, 00:34:08.08\00:34:09.64 notice what happened. 00:34:09.68\00:34:11.01 "He caused the doors of the temple to be closed. 00:34:11.05\00:34:14.58 The sacred services were interrupted. 00:34:14.62\00:34:17.49 Lord, have mercy. 00:34:17.52\00:34:19.09 No longer were the candlesticks kept burning in the altar." 00:34:19.12\00:34:22.56 Notice this. 00:34:22.59\00:34:23.93 "No longer were the offerings made 00:34:23.96\00:34:25.59 for the sins of the people, 00:34:25.63\00:34:27.33 no longer did the sweet incense ascend on high 00:34:27.36\00:34:31.17 at the time of the morning and evening sacrifice. 00:34:31.20\00:34:34.80 Deserting the courts of the house of God, 00:34:34.84\00:34:38.01 locking fast its doors and the inhabitants, 00:34:38.04\00:34:43.65 notice, of the godless city boldly set up their altars 00:34:43.68\00:34:47.95 for the worship of heathen deities 00:34:47.98\00:34:50.09 on the street corners." 00:34:50.12\00:34:52.55 Throughout where? 00:34:52.59\00:34:53.92 You wouldn't imagine it, where? 00:34:53.96\00:34:55.32 "Jerusalem." 00:34:55.36\00:34:56.69 They set up on the street corners, 00:34:56.73\00:34:58.06 the pagans and heathens because the church doors were closed. 00:34:58.09\00:35:02.80 Something was going on here. 00:35:02.83\00:35:04.17 You know, where was God's people with this? 00:35:04.20\00:35:07.17 "Heathenism had seemingly triumphed. 00:35:07.20\00:35:10.04 The powers of darkness had well-nigh prevailed. 00:35:10.07\00:35:14.44 But in Judah, 00:35:14.48\00:35:15.81 there dwelt some 00:35:15.84\00:35:17.18 who maintained their allegiance to Jehovah, 00:35:17.21\00:35:19.21 steadfastly refusing to be led into idolatry. 00:35:19.25\00:35:23.59 I mean, we're seeing something was coming on devastation 00:35:23.62\00:35:26.15 because the people turned their back on God. 00:35:26.19\00:35:28.92 And you wonder today, 00:35:28.96\00:35:30.29 some of the things that are going on, 00:35:30.33\00:35:31.96 not trying to criticize condemn, 00:35:31.99\00:35:33.33 just look at it. 00:35:33.36\00:35:34.70 In reality, it seems like 00:35:34.73\00:35:36.06 the enemy is trying to close the doors. 00:35:36.10\00:35:37.60 He's trying to shut it down where God's people can't come 00:35:37.63\00:35:40.64 and, you know, into the temple and into fellowship with God 00:35:40.67\00:35:43.97 and with others. 00:35:44.01\00:35:45.54 And we're saying, well, we have reasons for that 00:35:45.57\00:35:47.31 and all so on and so forth now, 00:35:47.34\00:35:49.01 but this is kind of interesting 00:35:49.04\00:35:50.48 because sometimes when, when this thing happens, 00:35:50.51\00:35:53.21 people find something else to do. 00:35:53.25\00:35:55.62 The mind is taken away from God 00:35:55.65\00:35:56.99 and they begin to find other things to do. 00:35:57.02\00:35:58.35 And as leaders of the church, 00:35:58.39\00:35:59.72 we just try to bring it back together, 00:35:59.75\00:36:01.19 keep a spiritual insight to it and to realize, 00:36:01.22\00:36:04.53 you know what, disaster is on its way. 00:36:04.56\00:36:06.43 We need to be ready. 00:36:06.46\00:36:07.80 Amen: 00:36:07.83\00:36:09.16 Thank you so much, Pastor Kenny and Shelley and Pastor John. 00:36:09.20\00:36:12.30 What an incredible lesson, 00:36:12.33\00:36:13.67 the children of Judah were in a bad place. 00:36:13.70\00:36:16.40 Could you say that? 00:36:16.44\00:36:17.77 Apostasy is rampant, 00:36:17.81\00:36:19.71 they have the Assyrians over them. 00:36:19.74\00:36:23.75 And this is a time of fear. 00:36:23.78\00:36:25.25 That's why Wednesday's lesson I love. 00:36:25.28\00:36:27.75 It says, "Nothing to Fear When We Fear God Himself." 00:36:27.78\00:36:33.25 My passages, 00:36:33.29\00:36:34.62 the next few verses in Isaiah 8:11-15. 00:36:34.66\00:36:37.89 You know, Franklin D Roosevelt. 00:36:37.93\00:36:39.26 This was his first inaugural address. 00:36:39.29\00:36:41.83 The country is struggling with the Great Depression 00:36:41.86\00:36:43.67 and there's a lot of difficulty. 00:36:43.70\00:36:46.37 He said, 00:36:46.40\00:36:47.74 "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." 00:36:47.77\00:36:50.64 Now, Isaiah, this message that we're gonna read here. 00:36:50.67\00:36:53.88 This is his message to the depressed people. 00:36:53.91\00:36:56.28 The people who are struggling under oppression, 00:36:56.31\00:36:58.88 his messages, 00:36:58.91\00:37:00.25 we have nothing to fear when we fear God Himself. 00:37:00.28\00:37:05.75 Oswald Chambers put it this way. 00:37:05.79\00:37:07.96 When you fear God, you fear nothing else, 00:37:07.99\00:37:10.96 whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else. 00:37:10.99\00:37:15.96 That's what we look at on today's lesson, 00:37:16.00\00:37:17.90 Wednesday's lesson. 00:37:17.93\00:37:19.27 Let's read verse 11, 00:37:19.30\00:37:20.84 "For the Lord spoke thus to me with a strong hand 00:37:20.87\00:37:23.84 and instructed me that 00:37:23.87\00:37:25.21 I should not walk in the way of this people." 00:37:25.24\00:37:28.24 So what's God saying? 00:37:28.28\00:37:29.68 Take a stand, 00:37:29.71\00:37:31.05 don't do it because everybody else is doing it. 00:37:31.08\00:37:34.18 Don't trust in the military might 00:37:34.22\00:37:36.79 of surrounding nations 00:37:36.82\00:37:38.19 or of Assyria or Egypt or Babylon. 00:37:38.22\00:37:41.59 Don't trust in that. 00:37:41.62\00:37:42.96 Trust in me. 00:37:42.99\00:37:44.99 It's interesting that He said, speak thus with a strong hand, 00:37:45.03\00:37:50.67 because the hand is often used metaphorically 00:37:50.70\00:37:52.97 in the Word of God. 00:37:53.00\00:37:54.34 Hands are used as a metaphor for revelation. 00:37:54.37\00:37:56.47 We see that here in Isaiah 8:11, 00:37:56.50\00:37:58.54 it's a metaphor for deliverance from Egypt. 00:37:58.57\00:38:01.44 We see that in Exodus Chapter 3, 00:38:01.48\00:38:03.61 it's a metaphor for oath or judgment. 00:38:03.65\00:38:06.28 We see that in Zechariah 2. 00:38:06.31\00:38:08.15 Hands are also used as a metaphor for creation. 00:38:08.18\00:38:11.55 We see that in Isaiah Chapter 19. 00:38:11.59\00:38:14.46 So, what does God saying? 00:38:14.49\00:38:15.82 This is verses 12 through 15, 00:38:15.86\00:38:17.39 we'll read it and then we'll unpack it. 00:38:17.43\00:38:20.16 "Do not say, 'A conspiracy,' 00:38:20.20\00:38:22.43 concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, 00:38:22.46\00:38:25.57 and be afraid of their threats nor be troubled.' " 00:38:25.60\00:38:28.94 Verse 13, 00:38:28.97\00:38:30.37 "The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow. 00:38:30.41\00:38:35.21 Let him be your fear. 00:38:35.24\00:38:37.45 Let him be your dread. 00:38:37.48\00:38:39.21 He will be as the sanctuary, 00:38:39.25\00:38:40.98 but a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense 00:38:41.02\00:38:43.82 to both the houses of Israel 00:38:43.85\00:38:45.69 as a trap and a snare 00:38:45.72\00:38:47.06 to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 00:38:47.09\00:38:49.06 And many among them shall stumble. 00:38:49.09\00:38:51.79 They shall fall and be broken, be snared and be taken." 00:38:51.83\00:38:55.33 So, look at the contrast here. 00:38:55.36\00:38:57.83 If you fear God, you won't have to fear others. 00:38:57.87\00:39:02.84 On the flip side, if you fear others, 00:39:02.87\00:39:04.84 that means you probably do not fear God. 00:39:04.87\00:39:08.18 The next verse, 00:39:08.21\00:39:09.54 verse 14 talks about 00:39:09.58\00:39:10.98 He would be a sanctuary, but to others, 00:39:11.01\00:39:12.95 a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense. 00:39:12.98\00:39:15.68 If God is a sanctuary to you, if He dwells with you, 00:39:15.72\00:39:21.12 He won't be a stone of stumbling 00:39:21.16\00:39:22.72 or a rock of offense. 00:39:22.76\00:39:24.93 But, if God is a stone of stumbling 00:39:24.96\00:39:27.86 or a rock of offense to you, 00:39:27.90\00:39:30.10 then He has not tabernacled with you. 00:39:30.13\00:39:32.07 He has not set up residence with you. 00:39:32.10\00:39:35.84 And finally, if you refuse 00:39:35.87\00:39:37.37 to fall on the rock Christ Jesus and be broken, 00:39:37.41\00:39:39.97 that rock will fall on you and crush you to powder. 00:39:40.01\00:39:44.15 We see that in Matthew 21. 00:39:44.18\00:39:46.21 So, we are called to fear God and not others. 00:39:46.25\00:39:49.92 The lesson title, 00:39:49.95\00:39:51.29 we have nothing to fear when we fear God Himself 00:39:51.32\00:39:54.46 reminds me of the three angels' messages. 00:39:54.49\00:39:56.32 Remember, Revelation Chapter 14 begins with what? 00:39:56.36\00:39:59.16 Verse 6, 00:39:59.19\00:40:00.53 "Fear God and give glory to Him, 00:40:00.56\00:40:03.67 for the hour of His judgment has come." 00:40:03.70\00:40:05.97 You see if we fear God, we won't fear the beast. 00:40:06.00\00:40:10.34 But if we don't fear God in Revelation 14, 00:40:10.37\00:40:14.48 we will fear the beast in Revelation 13. 00:40:14.51\00:40:16.91 And we will give glory to that beast. 00:40:16.95\00:40:21.58 Fear, there's a lot of things that we're afraid of today. 00:40:21.62\00:40:24.92 I'm just gonna list a few. 00:40:24.95\00:40:26.35 I think a lot of times we're afraid of other people. 00:40:26.39\00:40:29.09 Isaiah talks about that in Isaiah 51:12-13, 00:40:29.12\00:40:35.00 "I even, I am He who comforts you, 00:40:35.03\00:40:38.27 who are you 00:40:38.30\00:40:39.63 that you should be afraid of a man who will die. 00:40:39.67\00:40:42.80 And of the son of a man who will be made like grass. 00:40:42.84\00:40:45.64 And you forget the Lord, your maker." 00:40:45.67\00:40:48.24 Why are you afraid of other people? 00:40:48.28\00:40:49.61 Because we forget God. 00:40:49.64\00:40:51.11 We forget He is our maker who stretched out the heavens 00:40:51.15\00:40:54.98 and laid the foundations of the earth. 00:40:55.02\00:40:56.99 You have feared continually every day 00:40:57.02\00:40:59.59 because of the fear of fury of the oppressor. 00:40:59.62\00:41:02.46 And where is the fury of the oppressor? 00:41:02.49\00:41:05.33 Sometimes we're afraid of others 00:41:05.36\00:41:06.70 because we have forgotten God, our maker. 00:41:06.73\00:41:09.16 Sometimes people are afraid of being alone. 00:41:09.20\00:41:11.90 Maybe you mask it 00:41:11.93\00:41:13.40 by an over obsessive use of social media, 00:41:13.44\00:41:16.44 or it's the reason people stay in relationships 00:41:16.47\00:41:19.97 because they're afraid of being alone. 00:41:20.01\00:41:22.28 But God has told us in Hebrews 13:5, 00:41:22.31\00:41:25.38 He Himself has said, 00:41:25.41\00:41:27.08 I will never leave you. 00:41:27.12\00:41:29.15 I will never forsake you. 00:41:29.18\00:41:31.45 So, we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper. 00:41:31.49\00:41:34.26 I will not fear. 00:41:34.29\00:41:36.12 What can man do unto me? 00:41:36.16\00:41:37.96 God is our helper. 00:41:37.99\00:41:39.43 Sometimes we're afraid of change. 00:41:39.46\00:41:41.53 We don't like change. 00:41:41.56\00:41:43.06 We don't like the uncertainty of the future, 00:41:43.10\00:41:46.20 but God says in Malachi 3:6, 00:41:46.23\00:41:48.07 "I am the Lord, I do not change." 00:41:48.10\00:41:51.71 God is the same yesterday, today and forever. 00:41:51.74\00:41:55.24 Sometimes we're afraid of dying. 00:41:55.28\00:41:58.55 Hebrews talks about that. 00:41:58.58\00:42:00.12 Hebrews 2:14-15, 00:42:00.15\00:42:03.12 "Inasmuch then as the children 00:42:03.15\00:42:04.52 have partaken of flesh and blood, 00:42:04.55\00:42:06.42 He Himself likewise shared in the same, 00:42:06.45\00:42:09.72 that through death 00:42:09.76\00:42:11.46 He might release him who had the power of death," 00:42:11.49\00:42:13.83 that is the devil, 00:42:13.86\00:42:15.20 "and release those who through fear of death 00:42:15.23\00:42:17.00 were all their lifetime subject to bondage." 00:42:17.03\00:42:21.17 Why do we spend time being afraid of that? 00:42:21.20\00:42:23.91 Because we never developed that fear of God. 00:42:23.94\00:42:26.51 So, what does it mean to fear God? 00:42:26.54\00:42:28.84 Isaiah 8:13, we already read it. 00:42:28.88\00:42:31.68 Let's read it one more time. 00:42:31.71\00:42:33.38 The Lord of hosts, 00:42:33.42\00:42:34.75 Him you shall hallow or set apart, 00:42:34.78\00:42:37.82 be consecrated, holy, God is holy. 00:42:37.85\00:42:41.66 Let Him be your fear. 00:42:41.69\00:42:44.16 Regard Him with reverence. 00:42:44.19\00:42:46.59 Let Him be your dread. 00:42:46.63\00:42:48.96 In this context, 00:42:49.00\00:42:50.90 the fear of the Lord 00:42:50.93\00:42:52.27 is to consider the Lord as holy. 00:42:52.30\00:42:55.40 It's a recognition of the holiness of our God 00:42:55.44\00:43:00.08 and a respect and reverence for who He is. 00:43:00.11\00:43:05.95 I have five takeaways 00:43:05.98\00:43:07.52 from this concept of fearing the Lord. 00:43:07.55\00:43:11.45 Take away number one, 00:43:11.49\00:43:12.82 Godly fear recognizes the holiness of God 00:43:12.85\00:43:16.62 and walks in obedience to what He commands us. 00:43:16.66\00:43:20.86 We just read that in Isaiah 8:13. 00:43:20.90\00:43:23.26 If we fear Him, 00:43:23.30\00:43:24.90 we will walk in that obedience to His commands. 00:43:24.93\00:43:28.14 Number two, Godly fear leads to knowledge. 00:43:28.17\00:43:32.24 Proverbs 1:7, 00:43:32.27\00:43:34.48 The fear of the Lord, what is that? 00:43:34.51\00:43:36.14 It is the beginning of knowledge, 00:43:36.18\00:43:38.95 but fools, they despise wisdom and instruction. 00:43:38.98\00:43:43.32 The fear of the Lord that is that admiration, 00:43:43.35\00:43:46.79 reverence represented in obedience to Him. 00:43:46.82\00:43:52.36 Godly fear, it leads to knowledge. 00:43:52.39\00:43:54.76 Number three, 00:43:54.80\00:43:56.13 Godly fear is not afraid of death. 00:43:56.16\00:43:59.93 Rather it's afraid of losing God. 00:43:59.97\00:44:04.21 Matthew Chapter 10, 00:44:04.24\00:44:06.07 Jesus speaking here, Matthew 10:28. 00:44:06.11\00:44:09.64 This is just the first part of that verse. 00:44:09.68\00:44:12.75 "Do not fear those who kill the body, 00:44:12.78\00:44:15.15 but cannot kill the soul. 00:44:15.18\00:44:17.65 Rather fear Him 00:44:17.69\00:44:19.32 who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." 00:44:19.35\00:44:24.33 Godly fear, it's not afraid of death, 00:44:24.36\00:44:26.23 but it is afraid of losing God 00:44:26.26\00:44:28.06 or losing our connection with God 00:44:28.10\00:44:30.40 or losing our eternal salvation and that security with God. 00:44:30.43\00:44:37.17 Now, let's look at Godly love for just a moment. 00:44:37.21\00:44:39.94 This is number four. 00:44:39.97\00:44:41.31 Takeaway number four, 00:44:41.34\00:44:42.68 Godly love does not exhibit fear. 00:44:42.71\00:44:46.41 1 John 4:18, 00:44:46.45\00:44:49.32 There is no fear in love 00:44:49.35\00:44:51.89 because perfect love or Godly love 00:44:51.92\00:44:55.32 casts out fear 00:44:55.36\00:44:56.89 because fear, it involves torment. 00:44:56.93\00:44:59.23 He that fears 00:44:59.26\00:45:00.60 has not been made perfect in love. 00:45:00.63\00:45:03.67 Now we're not discussing Godly fear here. 00:45:03.70\00:45:06.00 That's not the type of fear that John is talking about. 00:45:06.03\00:45:08.67 He's talking about a worldly type of fear. 00:45:08.70\00:45:11.31 Remember, Godly fear is that respect 00:45:11.34\00:45:13.51 and admiration for God, reverence for God. 00:45:13.54\00:45:17.11 But if we have Godly love, that type of worldly fear, 00:45:17.15\00:45:21.98 that's going to be pushed aside. 00:45:22.02\00:45:25.12 Last takeaway. 00:45:25.15\00:45:26.49 Number five, 00:45:26.52\00:45:27.86 Godly love does not love the things of the world. 00:45:27.89\00:45:32.76 1 John 2:15, 00:45:32.79\00:45:35.60 do not love the world or the things in the world. 00:45:35.63\00:45:38.80 If anyone loves the world, 00:45:38.83\00:45:40.20 the love of the Father is not in him. 00:45:40.24\00:45:44.17 So, five takeaways, 00:45:44.21\00:45:45.54 Godly fear recognizes the holiness of God 00:45:45.57\00:45:47.84 and walks in obedience to His command. 00:45:47.88\00:45:50.08 Number two, Godly fear leads to knowledge. 00:45:50.11\00:45:53.42 Number three, 00:45:53.45\00:45:54.78 Godly fear is not afraid of death, 00:45:54.82\00:45:56.72 rather it's afraid of losing God. 00:45:56.75\00:45:59.35 Number four, 00:45:59.39\00:46:00.72 Godly love does not exhibit fear. 00:46:00.76\00:46:02.86 And that would be a worldly fear 00:46:02.89\00:46:04.79 and Godly love 00:46:04.83\00:46:06.16 does not love the things of the world. 00:46:06.19\00:46:08.50 We have nothing to fear when we fear God Himself. 00:46:08.53\00:46:13.07 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:46:13.10\00:46:15.54 I got to put my specs on. 00:46:15.57\00:46:18.67 Thank you, Jill, so much, 00:46:18.71\00:46:20.04 that was beautiful and wonderful setup 00:46:20.08\00:46:21.44 for the next few verses of Isaiah Chapter 8, 00:46:21.48\00:46:25.08 a couple of which many of us are very familiar with, 00:46:25.11\00:46:28.45 and we get to study them 00:46:28.48\00:46:29.82 within the context of what it is 00:46:29.85\00:46:31.62 that is being said here 00:46:31.65\00:46:32.99 in these latter verses of Isaiah Chapter 8. 00:46:33.02\00:46:36.26 I have Thursday's lesson and man, what a... 00:46:36.29\00:46:38.63 While I was studying for this lesson, 00:46:38.66\00:46:40.76 all I could think about of this title 00:46:40.80\00:46:43.37 is it just sounds like 00:46:43.40\00:46:44.73 one of those horror movie film titles, 00:46:44.77\00:46:47.67 you know, you could just imagine it, 00:46:47.70\00:46:49.07 you know, coming to a theater near you, 00:46:49.10\00:46:52.91 Gloom of the Ungrateful Living Dead, right? 00:46:52.94\00:46:56.78 That's the title of Thursday's lesson, 00:46:56.81\00:46:58.45 "Gloom of the Ungrateful Living Dead." 00:46:58.48\00:47:01.88 So, we're gonna pick up in Isaiah 8:16-22. 00:47:01.92\00:47:07.99 And I'm gonna get right into this. 00:47:08.02\00:47:09.42 Notice what the Bible says. 00:47:09.46\00:47:11.39 I like we have, I like this first verse. 00:47:11.43\00:47:14.66 This is will be the foundation 00:47:14.70\00:47:16.46 on everything that's about to say 00:47:16.50\00:47:18.10 or everything that's about to be said. 00:47:18.13\00:47:19.53 If people would just bind up the testimony 00:47:19.57\00:47:22.94 and seal the law among God's disciples, 00:47:22.97\00:47:25.74 just accept the law of God 00:47:25.77\00:47:28.44 and be a disciple who follows the law of God, 00:47:28.48\00:47:30.91 then none of this other stuff would have had to happen. 00:47:30.95\00:47:33.92 But it goes on to say, 00:47:33.95\00:47:35.28 based on that statement, verse 17, 00:47:35.32\00:47:37.19 it says, "And I will wait on the Lord 00:47:37.22\00:47:39.35 who hides his face from the house of Jacob, 00:47:39.39\00:47:41.19 and I will hope in Him." 00:47:41.22\00:47:43.59 That's our memory verse for today. 00:47:43.63\00:47:45.19 Beautiful. 00:47:45.23\00:47:46.56 "Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me, 00:47:46.59\00:47:50.27 we are for signs and for wonders in Israel 00:47:50.30\00:47:52.77 for the Lord of hosts, 00:47:52.80\00:47:54.34 who dwells in Mount Zion." 00:47:54.37\00:47:57.41 But here comes that ungrateful living dead part. 00:47:57.44\00:48:01.64 "And when they say to you, 00:48:01.68\00:48:03.55 seek those who are mediums and wizards, 00:48:03.58\00:48:06.31 who whisper and mutter, 00:48:06.35\00:48:07.82 should not a people seek their God? 00:48:07.85\00:48:11.05 Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?" 00:48:11.09\00:48:15.09 Verse 20, 00:48:15.12\00:48:16.66 "To the law and the testimony, 00:48:16.69\00:48:19.93 if they do not speak according to this word, 00:48:19.96\00:48:23.16 it is because there was no light in them." 00:48:23.20\00:48:26.63 Verse 21, 00:48:26.67\00:48:28.00 "They will pass through it, hard-pressed and hungry. 00:48:28.04\00:48:30.41 And it shall happen when they are hungry, 00:48:30.44\00:48:33.14 that they will be enraged in curse. 00:48:33.17\00:48:35.44 They will curse their King and their God 00:48:35.48\00:48:38.28 and look upward. 00:48:38.31\00:48:39.91 Then they will look to the earth 00:48:39.95\00:48:41.28 and see trouble in darkness, 00:48:41.32\00:48:42.92 gloom of anguish, 00:48:42.95\00:48:44.75 and they will be driven into darkness. 00:48:44.79\00:48:48.56 Now you have to understand these verses 00:48:48.59\00:48:50.39 within the context of what has happened 00:48:50.43\00:48:52.73 in the previous chapters involving Ahaz, 00:48:52.76\00:48:55.43 because the reason why God is bringing this up, 00:48:55.46\00:48:58.23 the reason why he's asking the question, 00:48:58.27\00:49:00.40 you know, seek those who are mediums and wizards, 00:49:00.44\00:49:03.07 who whisper and mutter 00:49:03.10\00:49:04.44 should not a people seek their God? 00:49:04.47\00:49:06.68 Because Ahaz, the king of Israel. 00:49:06.71\00:49:08.88 Of course, we know he was a pitiful king. 00:49:08.91\00:49:10.88 He wasn't a good king at all. 00:49:10.91\00:49:12.41 He was the main leader 00:49:12.45\00:49:14.52 in leading out in bringing Israel 00:49:14.55\00:49:16.65 into the occultic practices 00:49:16.69\00:49:19.05 and the spiritualistic practices 00:49:19.09\00:49:20.59 that is being described here in these verses. 00:49:20.62\00:49:23.16 And that's why we have those two foundational texts 00:49:23.19\00:49:25.49 that we often read, 00:49:25.53\00:49:26.86 you know, bind up the testimony, 00:49:26.90\00:49:28.23 seal the law, 00:49:28.26\00:49:29.60 because if you find yourself in harmony with God's law, 00:49:29.63\00:49:31.53 that means you find yourself only worshiping God, 00:49:31.57\00:49:34.20 only seeking God, 00:49:34.24\00:49:35.57 only looking to God for your answers. 00:49:35.60\00:49:37.77 Same thing in verse 20, 00:49:37.81\00:49:39.14 to the law and to the testimony, 00:49:39.17\00:49:40.51 notice how that law keeps coming back up, 00:49:40.54\00:49:42.04 because the law of God 00:49:42.08\00:49:43.41 will not allow you to seek the dead. 00:49:43.45\00:49:45.31 You can't communicate. 00:49:45.35\00:49:46.68 Why in the world would you wanna communicate with the dead 00:49:46.72\00:49:48.25 when you can communicate with the Lord of the law, 00:49:48.28\00:49:50.92 the Lord of the Bible? 00:49:50.95\00:49:52.85 And so, to the law and to the testimony, 00:49:52.89\00:49:54.39 if they do not speak according to this word, 00:49:54.42\00:49:56.69 and we're gonna see what it is that Ahaz did, 00:49:56.73\00:49:59.86 that was not according to the Word of God 00:49:59.89\00:50:02.20 in just a moment, speaking of Ahaz. 00:50:02.23\00:50:04.47 Let's look at this, 2 Kings 16:3-4. 00:50:04.50\00:50:07.57 And then we're also going to go to 2 Chronicles 28:22-25. 00:50:07.60\00:50:12.04 This is gonna kind of give us an understanding 00:50:12.07\00:50:13.88 of why God is challenging this 00:50:13.91\00:50:15.61 and why He's speaking on this occultic practice 00:50:15.64\00:50:19.75 of seeking mediums and wizards and, you know, 00:50:19.78\00:50:22.52 talking and communicating with the dead. 00:50:22.55\00:50:24.52 Notice what the Bible says in 2 Kings 16:3-4, 00:50:24.55\00:50:27.46 speaking about King Ahaz. 00:50:27.49\00:50:29.69 It says, "But he walked in the way 00:50:29.72\00:50:31.06 of the kings of Israel, 00:50:31.09\00:50:32.43 indeed he made his son pass through the fire." 00:50:32.46\00:50:35.93 Now don't be confused about what those are saying. 00:50:35.96\00:50:38.53 Many people have interpreted this 00:50:38.57\00:50:40.57 to be that the passing through the fire is, 00:50:40.60\00:50:42.64 you know, those old like pagan rituals 00:50:42.67\00:50:44.57 where you have to walk on the hot coals, 00:50:44.61\00:50:46.14 or you have to somehow pass through 00:50:46.17\00:50:47.74 some type of ritualistic fire, 00:50:47.78\00:50:49.64 you know, to be made a man. 00:50:49.68\00:50:51.01 They often would do this in some of the pagan, 00:50:51.05\00:50:52.75 heathen nations, but yet this passing through the fire, 00:50:52.78\00:50:55.45 this was a ritualistic occultic practice 00:50:55.48\00:50:58.42 in which he would literally sacrifice his son 00:50:58.45\00:51:01.09 to the pagan gods in fire, 00:51:01.12\00:51:03.89 burn them alive. 00:51:03.93\00:51:05.36 And so, it goes on to say here, 00:51:05.39\00:51:06.73 "After he made a son pass through the fire, 00:51:06.76\00:51:09.33 according to the abominations of the nations, 00:51:09.36\00:51:11.60 whom the Lord had cast out 00:51:11.63\00:51:13.00 from before the children of Israel 00:51:13.03\00:51:14.94 and he sacrificed 00:51:14.97\00:51:16.30 and burned incense on the high places on the hills 00:51:16.34\00:51:19.27 and under every green tree." 00:51:19.31\00:51:21.84 And, of course, if you continue reading 00:51:21.88\00:51:23.61 on to 2 Chronicles 28: 22-25, 00:51:23.65\00:51:27.15 it gives us a little bit more insight 00:51:27.18\00:51:28.92 as to how Ahaz led out 00:51:28.95\00:51:31.52 and what he brought about in Israel 00:51:31.55\00:51:34.06 as a negative influence upon the people of God. 00:51:34.09\00:51:36.73 2 Chronicles 28:22-25. 00:51:36.76\00:51:40.00 It says, "Now in the time of his distress, 00:51:40.03\00:51:43.03 King Ahaz became increasingly unfaithful to the Lord." 00:51:43.06\00:51:46.37 Have mercy. This is that King Ahaz. 00:51:46.40\00:51:50.87 I like how the writer of Chronicles here. 00:51:50.91\00:51:52.34 He had to make that clear. 00:51:52.37\00:51:53.71 This is that King Ahaz, 00:51:53.74\00:51:55.24 you know, that one you heard about, right? 00:51:55.28\00:51:57.35 "Where he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, 00:51:57.38\00:52:00.62 which had defeated him saying, 00:52:00.65\00:52:02.38 because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, 00:52:02.42\00:52:04.75 I will sacrifice to them that may help me, 00:52:04.79\00:52:07.92 but they were the ruin of him in all of Israel." 00:52:07.96\00:52:11.56 So, Ahaz gathered the articles, notice this, 00:52:11.59\00:52:13.86 he gathered the articles of the house of God. 00:52:13.90\00:52:16.93 What other way can you disrespect God 00:52:16.97\00:52:20.47 and His holiness 00:52:20.50\00:52:21.84 than to go into His house 00:52:21.87\00:52:23.20 and take those things which were meant to be holy 00:52:23.24\00:52:25.21 and only used for the Lord 00:52:25.24\00:52:26.61 and use them for pagan practices 00:52:26.64\00:52:29.08 and the worship of other gods. 00:52:29.11\00:52:30.65 So, that's why it says here. 00:52:30.68\00:52:32.01 So, Ahaz gathered 00:52:32.05\00:52:33.38 the article of the house of God, 00:52:33.42\00:52:34.75 cut it in pieces 00:52:34.78\00:52:36.55 or cut in pieces the articles of the house of God, 00:52:36.58\00:52:39.12 shut up the doors of the house of the Lord 00:52:39.15\00:52:41.42 and made for himself altars in every corner of Jerusalem 00:52:41.46\00:52:45.56 and in every single city of Judah. 00:52:45.59\00:52:47.40 He made high places to burn incense to other gods 00:52:47.43\00:52:51.17 and provoked to anger the Lord God of his fathers. 00:52:51.20\00:52:55.74 And so, again, why would God have such a major issue 00:52:55.77\00:53:00.21 with these occultic practices, 00:53:00.24\00:53:01.58 you know, seeking wizards and witches and sorcerers 00:53:01.61\00:53:03.85 and all these other things, 00:53:03.88\00:53:05.21 talking and communicating with the dead, 00:53:05.25\00:53:06.92 which brought about Ahaz, brought about into Israel. 00:53:06.95\00:53:11.22 Well, notice this, in Deuteronomy 32:17, 00:53:11.25\00:53:13.72 when you are practicing. 00:53:13.76\00:53:15.69 If you know of someone who is doing this, 00:53:15.72\00:53:17.29 or you yourself have heard of this, 00:53:17.33\00:53:18.83 or maybe you have participated in such a practice in the past, 00:53:18.86\00:53:22.86 let me inform you 00:53:22.90\00:53:24.30 about what the Bible teaches that you are doing 00:53:24.33\00:53:27.00 when you are doing this. 00:53:27.04\00:53:28.47 Deuteronomy 32:17, 00:53:28.50\00:53:31.17 the Bible says they sacrifice to what? 00:53:31.21\00:53:35.04 Demons, not to God. 00:53:35.08\00:53:38.28 It says, "To gods they did not know, to new gods, 00:53:38.31\00:53:42.32 new arrivals 00:53:42.35\00:53:43.69 that your fathers did not fear." 00:53:43.72\00:53:46.15 And if you couple that with 1 Corinthians 10:20, 00:53:46.19\00:53:50.29 notice what Paul writes here, again, 00:53:50.33\00:53:52.23 emphasizing and re-mentioning what was mentioned here 00:53:52.26\00:53:56.46 in Deuteronomy 32. 00:53:56.50\00:53:57.83 Paul writes rather 00:53:57.87\00:53:59.37 that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, 00:53:59.40\00:54:03.00 they sacrifice to demons and not to God. 00:54:03.04\00:54:06.94 And I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. 00:54:06.98\00:54:10.81 This was a big deal back in the day, my friends. 00:54:10.85\00:54:14.78 And so ultimately what is revealed in this, 00:54:14.82\00:54:18.29 in this study is that because 00:54:18.32\00:54:19.75 Ahaz had led the people into these occultic practices, 00:54:19.79\00:54:22.69 you know, they would end up cursing him. 00:54:22.72\00:54:25.16 In fact, when Ahaz died, 00:54:25.19\00:54:27.60 an exception was made regarding his burial 00:54:27.63\00:54:29.56 due to the lack of respect for him. 00:54:29.60\00:54:32.17 And then, of course, it goes on 00:54:32.20\00:54:33.64 to say there in 2 Chronicles 28:26-27, 00:54:33.67\00:54:36.57 it says, "They did not bring him 00:54:36.60\00:54:37.94 into the tombs of the kings of Israel." 00:54:37.97\00:54:40.01 He wasn't even given a proper royal burial 00:54:40.04\00:54:42.44 because of the things that he had done. 00:54:42.48\00:54:44.48 He was a curse because of those things. 00:54:44.51\00:54:46.85 Absolutely. 00:54:46.88\00:54:48.22 What does the Bible teach about these occultic practices? 00:54:48.25\00:54:50.82 We know that they're communicating 00:54:50.85\00:54:52.69 and offering these sacrifices, not to these random gods, 00:54:52.72\00:54:56.32 not to the gods of gold and silver, 00:54:56.36\00:54:57.73 and the air and the wind, and the grass 00:54:57.76\00:54:59.29 and all the other things that they worship, 00:54:59.33\00:55:00.83 they're worshiping demons. 00:55:00.86\00:55:02.60 They're communicating with demons. 00:55:02.63\00:55:03.97 In Leviticus 20:7, 00:55:04.00\00:55:05.33 God's language was very strong on this, 00:55:05.37\00:55:07.74 and He was very clear. 00:55:07.77\00:55:09.10 He said, "A man or a woman who is a medium, 00:55:09.14\00:55:11.67 or who has a familiar spirit, shall surely be put to death. 00:55:11.71\00:55:16.38 They shall stone them with stones, 00:55:16.41\00:55:18.45 their blood shall be upon them. 00:55:18.48\00:55:20.55 God takes this situation very, very serious. 00:55:20.58\00:55:23.25 And, you know, we can learn a lot of things 00:55:23.28\00:55:25.55 if we study what the Bible has to say 00:55:25.59\00:55:27.66 on this practice. 00:55:27.69\00:55:29.02 I'm going to, I can't read it for sake of time, 00:55:29.06\00:55:30.43 but Deuteronomy 18:19-14, go read it. 00:55:30.46\00:55:35.00 Go read those verses where God specifically, 00:55:35.03\00:55:37.63 very strongly declares that this is not His plan, 00:55:37.67\00:55:40.04 and this is not what He wants for His people. 00:55:40.07\00:55:42.47 And I think of King Saul, his ultimate demise, 00:55:42.50\00:55:46.94 according to the Bible, 00:55:46.98\00:55:48.31 according to 1 Chronicles 10:13-14, 00:55:48.34\00:55:50.38 the Bible says that he lost his life 00:55:50.41\00:55:52.35 because what did he do? 00:55:52.38\00:55:53.72 He did exactly what the Lord told him not to do. 00:55:53.75\00:55:55.52 He goes and he seeks a witch. A witch conjures up a spirit. 00:55:55.55\00:56:00.42 And the Bible says that he perceived 00:56:00.46\00:56:03.22 that it was Samuel. 00:56:03.26\00:56:04.59 But, my friends, it was not Samuel. 00:56:04.63\00:56:05.96 It was a demon. 00:56:05.99\00:56:07.33 And so, again, what we can learn from this 00:56:07.36\00:56:09.53 is to trust in the Lord, bind up the testimony, 00:56:09.56\00:56:13.17 seal the law among my disciples. 00:56:13.20\00:56:15.24 Jesus says, if they don't speak according to this word 00:56:15.27\00:56:17.77 is because there is no light in them. 00:56:17.81\00:56:20.18 Good. Thanks, Ryan. 00:56:20.21\00:56:21.98 Thank you so much. Thank you, all panelists. 00:56:22.01\00:56:23.71 Shelley, give me some summary 00:56:23.75\00:56:25.31 of what your lesson was all about? 00:56:25.35\00:56:27.48 Well, Ahaz trusted in princess rather than trusting in God. 00:56:27.52\00:56:32.65 He refused God's grace in the land then was desolated. 00:56:32.69\00:56:37.13 But I just have to say this for us. 00:56:37.16\00:56:39.36 If we refuse God's grace, even if you're in the church, 00:56:39.39\00:56:43.30 if you're refusing God's grace, you will remain unfruitful. 00:56:43.33\00:56:47.20 Pastor Kenny? Amen. 00:56:47.24\00:56:48.57 Five Testimonies 2:24, 00:56:48.60\00:56:50.21 "When the time fully comes 00:56:50.24\00:56:51.57 that inequity shall have reached 00:56:51.61\00:56:53.11 its stated boundary of God's mercy. 00:56:53.14\00:56:55.48 His forbearance will cease, 00:56:55.51\00:56:57.48 but then it will be seen 00:56:57.51\00:56:58.85 what a tremendous thing it is 00:56:58.88\00:57:00.45 to have worn out divine patience." 00:57:00.48\00:57:04.45 Jill? 00:57:04.49\00:57:05.82 Psalm 56:3, 00:57:05.85\00:57:07.39 "When I'm afraid, I will trust in You. 00:57:07.42\00:57:10.66 And God, I will put my trust. 00:57:10.69\00:57:13.16 I will not fear, what can flesh do unto me." 00:57:13.19\00:57:15.96 We can put our trust in the Lord Jesus. 00:57:16.00\00:57:17.80 Amen. Ryan? 00:57:19.63\00:57:22.17 To the law and to the testimony 00:57:22.20\00:57:24.24 they speak not according to this Word. 00:57:24.27\00:57:26.34 My friends, the Word of God is sure. 00:57:26.37\00:57:28.41 And we need to make sure 00:57:28.44\00:57:29.78 we're grounded in His Word today. 00:57:29.81\00:57:31.41 So, that we don't worship or communicate with demons, 00:57:31.45\00:57:34.18 but only with the one true God. 00:57:34.22\00:57:35.65 Amen. Right. 00:57:35.68\00:57:37.02 And we've been talking about prophecy fulfilled. 00:57:37.05\00:57:39.35 Prophecy is the connection between the past and the future 00:57:39.39\00:57:42.36 of the old and the new, 00:57:42.39\00:57:43.83 the unknown and the understood, 00:57:43.86\00:57:45.79 the concealed and the revealed, 00:57:45.83\00:57:47.70 what was said and what is being done, 00:57:47.73\00:57:49.43 the forecast and the fulfillment. 00:57:49.46\00:57:51.67 And to the student of prophecy, 00:57:51.70\00:57:53.03 the future is not a forward-looking experience 00:57:53.07\00:57:54.84 to the revelation of knowledge, 00:57:54.87\00:57:56.64 but a backward-looking experience 00:57:56.67\00:57:58.41 to the revelation of Jesus. 00:57:58.44\00:58:00.58 Join us next time for the lesson, 00:58:00.61\00:58:02.54 "Nobel Princess of Peace." 00:58:02.58\00:58:05.01 God bless you. 00:58:05.05\00:58:06.38
