Amen. 00:02:54.60\00:02:55.94 Amen. Education in Arts and Sciences. 00:02:55.97\00:02:58.41 It's kind of an interesting title, 00:02:58.44\00:02:59.87 teaching the arts and sciences from a Christian world view. 00:02:59.91\00:03:04.55 Now, you might say what in the world 00:03:04.58\00:03:06.01 are the arts and sciences. 00:03:06.05\00:03:07.45 If you were to go to college and get a liberal arts degree, 00:03:07.48\00:03:10.42 it could encompass any number of sub specialties 00:03:10.45\00:03:14.32 or degrees within that. 00:03:14.36\00:03:15.89 If you focus on the humanities, 00:03:15.92\00:03:18.09 you might look at English literature 00:03:18.13\00:03:19.46 or modern languages, philosophy, theology, 00:03:19.49\00:03:22.70 maybe its focuses on the social sciences 00:03:22.73\00:03:25.23 like anthropology and psychology, 00:03:25.27\00:03:27.70 sociology, history, economics, geography, 00:03:27.74\00:03:30.31 political science. 00:03:30.34\00:03:31.67 Maybe it focuses on the creative arts, 00:03:31.71\00:03:33.84 fine arts, theater, speech, creative writing, 00:03:33.88\00:03:36.95 or sciences such as astronomy and biology 00:03:36.98\00:03:39.41 and chemistry and physics. 00:03:39.45\00:03:40.98 But how do you teach those subjects 00:03:41.02\00:03:43.28 with a biblical world view? 00:03:43.32\00:03:46.19 What does that mean? 00:03:46.22\00:03:47.56 Is it just adding a scripture here and there 00:03:47.59\00:03:49.96 that relates somehow to the subject matter? 00:03:49.99\00:03:52.73 Is it adding a scripture 00:03:52.76\00:03:54.10 when the scripture agrees with the subject matter? 00:03:54.13\00:03:57.27 Or is it teaching the biblical worldview 00:03:57.30\00:04:00.84 as the underpinning for every subject taught? 00:04:00.87\00:04:05.27 It's reframing the focus of teaching 00:04:05.31\00:04:07.84 so that everything is filtered 00:04:07.88\00:04:10.31 through the lens of the Word of God. 00:04:10.35\00:04:12.85 That's what we talk about this week. 00:04:12.88\00:04:14.88 Our memory text is Psalms 19:1, 00:04:14.92\00:04:17.25 you can turn there 00:04:17.29\00:04:18.62 because we're going to spend some time in Psalms 19. 00:04:18.65\00:04:20.66 Psalms 19:1, "The heavens declare the glory of God, 00:04:20.69\00:04:25.43 and the firmament shows forth his handiwork." 00:04:25.46\00:04:29.63 On Sunday, we look at the Lord alone, 00:04:29.66\00:04:32.50 and how we see evidence for God in creation. 00:04:32.53\00:04:36.64 In nature, of course, clearly, Ryan, 00:04:36.67\00:04:38.37 there's evidence for God in the Word of God. 00:04:38.41\00:04:40.68 But there's also evidence for God in creation. 00:04:40.71\00:04:44.41 We see the hand of God in the sun and stars and sea. 00:04:44.45\00:04:47.75 We see the hand of God in the flowers and fossils 00:04:47.78\00:04:50.25 and foliage. 00:04:50.29\00:04:51.85 We see the hand of God in the birds and bees, 00:04:51.89\00:04:54.69 and that there is beauty in this world. 00:04:54.72\00:04:57.49 And in fact, 00:04:57.53\00:04:58.86 even though we're 6,000 years 00:04:58.89\00:05:00.76 after sin entered this world in Genesis Chapter 3, 00:05:00.80\00:05:04.27 there is still beauty, there is still evidence 00:05:04.30\00:05:06.80 for our Creator God, 00:05:06.84\00:05:08.70 and we worship the Creator, not the creature. 00:05:08.74\00:05:13.64 You might say what in the world are you talking about? 00:05:13.68\00:05:15.48 We're going to Romans 1 later 00:05:15.51\00:05:16.85 and you're going to see what we are talking about. 00:05:16.88\00:05:19.35 The late Bill Klem, 00:05:19.38\00:05:20.72 I don't know if you ever heard of him, 00:05:20.75\00:05:22.08 but he was one of Major League Baseball's 00:05:22.12\00:05:24.09 best-known umpires. 00:05:24.12\00:05:25.99 He was a National League umpire from 1905-1941. 00:05:26.02\00:05:30.26 And one particular game he was umpiring, 00:05:30.29\00:05:33.60 I don't know if that's a word, 00:05:33.63\00:05:34.96 but he was the umpire at the game. 00:05:35.00\00:05:36.87 And it was in the ninth inning, it was a critical play, 00:05:36.90\00:05:39.27 and everyone's waiting for the decision. 00:05:39.30\00:05:41.34 One dugout, everyone's hollering, 00:05:41.37\00:05:43.00 he's safe, he's safe. 00:05:43.04\00:05:44.77 And the other dugout, everyone's hollering, 00:05:44.81\00:05:46.81 he's out, he's out. 00:05:46.84\00:05:49.11 And Bill Klem stood up, looked up into the stands, 00:05:49.14\00:05:53.08 he raised his fist. 00:05:53.11\00:05:54.62 And he said, "He ain't nothing till I've called it." 00:05:54.65\00:05:58.12 So if you look at education, if you look at science and art, 00:05:58.15\00:06:01.59 if you look at all these things that we call philosophy today, 00:06:01.62\00:06:05.09 some people say this is truth, this is truth. 00:06:05.13\00:06:07.90 Other people say no it ain't, this is truth over here. 00:06:07.93\00:06:11.03 We're saying, it ain't nothing until God says it's truth. 00:06:11.07\00:06:16.00 Everything needs to come back to the Word of God. 00:06:16.04\00:06:20.78 So who is God? 00:06:20.81\00:06:22.24 Where do we find God? 00:06:22.28\00:06:24.31 And why do we find Him 00:06:24.35\00:06:26.68 and other people struggle to find Him? 00:06:26.72\00:06:30.55 We have five points. 00:06:30.59\00:06:31.92 This is taken from Psalms 19 and from Romans Chapter 1 00:06:31.95\00:06:35.59 as we look at evidence for God in creation. 00:06:35.62\00:06:38.89 Psalms 19 was our memory text, let's read that. 00:06:38.93\00:06:41.46 Point number one, 00:06:41.50\00:06:42.93 nature shows evidence of God and His character. 00:06:42.96\00:06:47.30 Psalms 19:1, "The heavens declare the glory of God, 00:06:47.34\00:06:51.27 and the firmament shows his handiwork." 00:06:51.31\00:06:55.31 The heavens declare the glory of God, 00:06:55.34\00:06:56.68 what is the glory of God? 00:06:56.71\00:06:58.05 Remember when Moses asked to see God 00:06:58.08\00:07:00.98 and remember God hid him, 00:07:01.02\00:07:02.42 but He allowed the backside to pass before 00:07:02.45\00:07:04.45 and what did He say in Exodus 33? 00:07:04.49\00:07:06.76 "The Lord, the Lord God, gracious and merciful, 00:07:06.79\00:07:10.99 long suffering." 00:07:11.03\00:07:12.36 It was His character. 00:07:12.39\00:07:14.66 When Moses said, "Show me Your glory." 00:07:14.70\00:07:17.10 God revealed His character. 00:07:17.13\00:07:19.40 So if the heavens declare the glory of God, 00:07:19.43\00:07:21.54 what does that mean? 00:07:21.57\00:07:22.90 Creation shows the character of God. 00:07:22.94\00:07:27.11 All you have to do is walk outside 00:07:27.14\00:07:28.58 on a dark night. 00:07:28.61\00:07:30.51 Look up at the stars if you're not in the city, 00:07:30.55\00:07:32.38 if you live here, like in Southern Illinois. 00:07:32.41\00:07:35.02 Look at the stars, 00:07:35.05\00:07:36.38 you see evidence for the Creator. 00:07:36.42\00:07:38.25 All it takes is going for a walk 00:07:38.29\00:07:39.99 in a meadow or woods. 00:07:40.02\00:07:42.16 Looking at animals, looking at life, 00:07:42.19\00:07:44.49 you see evidence for the Creator. 00:07:44.53\00:07:47.56 Nature shows evidence of God and His character. 00:07:47.60\00:07:50.37 Number two, nature is a silent witness. 00:07:50.40\00:07:53.94 We're still in Psalms 19. 00:07:53.97\00:07:55.30 Let's look at verses 2 and 3. 00:07:55.34\00:07:57.07 "Day unto day utters speech, 00:07:57.11\00:07:59.01 and night unto night reveals knowledge. 00:07:59.04\00:08:02.01 There is no speech nor language 00:08:02.04\00:08:04.05 where their voice is not heard." 00:08:04.08\00:08:06.85 Nature shows us God 00:08:06.88\00:08:08.22 whether we have an education or not, 00:08:08.25\00:08:10.02 nature still reveals God, it speaks with unwritten words. 00:08:10.05\00:08:15.89 It's not speaking literally or audibly, but still, 00:08:15.92\00:08:19.66 it speaks to us or reveals to us, 00:08:19.69\00:08:23.16 the Creator God. 00:08:23.20\00:08:25.10 Point number three, 00:08:25.13\00:08:26.90 failure to find evidence for God is a moral issue, 00:08:26.94\00:08:31.51 it's not an intellectual issue. 00:08:31.54\00:08:33.41 I want to say that again. 00:08:33.44\00:08:34.78 Failure to find evidence for God 00:08:34.81\00:08:36.95 is a moral issue, 00:08:36.98\00:08:39.01 it's not an intellectual issue. 00:08:39.05\00:08:41.48 So let's, we find that in Romans 1, 00:08:41.52\00:08:43.32 we're going to Romans 1, 00:08:43.35\00:08:44.69 this is the progression of sin 00:08:44.72\00:08:47.96 that we see in the Gentile world. 00:08:47.99\00:08:50.59 Romans 1:18-19, "For the wrath of God, " 00:08:50.63\00:08:55.30 that really means the judgment of God, 00:08:55.33\00:08:58.27 "is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness 00:08:58.30\00:09:01.67 and unrighteousness of men, 00:09:01.70\00:09:04.07 who suppress the truth in unrighteousness 00:09:04.11\00:09:09.14 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, 00:09:09.18\00:09:11.78 for God has shown it to them." 00:09:11.81\00:09:14.55 How does God reveal or show it to them? 00:09:14.58\00:09:16.92 Through creation. 00:09:16.95\00:09:18.29 We already discussed that in Psalms 19. 00:09:18.32\00:09:20.52 Even ungodly people, 00:09:20.56\00:09:22.09 or people who don't know God are familiar with God 00:09:22.12\00:09:24.96 because He reveals Himself through creation. 00:09:24.99\00:09:28.53 But why don't we see 00:09:28.56\00:09:29.90 the evidence of God in creation? 00:09:29.93\00:09:32.13 Why do some people miss that? 00:09:32.17\00:09:34.44 Because they suppress the truth in unrighteousness. 00:09:34.47\00:09:39.17 In other words, the evidence is there, 00:09:39.21\00:09:41.28 we just don't want to see it. 00:09:41.31\00:09:43.08 The evidence is there, we don't want to submit to it. 00:09:43.11\00:09:47.42 Kind of like you see what you want to see. 00:09:47.45\00:09:50.39 Anyone ever told you that? 00:09:50.42\00:09:52.02 We want people to believe that we've changed 00:09:52.05\00:09:54.59 when maybe we haven't, 00:09:54.62\00:09:56.12 or we want to think someone likes us 00:09:56.16\00:09:57.93 or maybe they don't. 00:09:57.96\00:09:59.29 We just see what we want to see. 00:09:59.33\00:10:01.33 If you want to find God in nature, 00:10:01.36\00:10:03.70 there is plenty of evidence. 00:10:03.73\00:10:07.20 On the flip side, 00:10:07.24\00:10:08.57 if you want to believe that we evolved, 00:10:08.60\00:10:12.54 you can believe that too. 00:10:12.57\00:10:14.64 Failure to find evidence for God, it's a moral issue. 00:10:14.68\00:10:17.65 It has to do with are we willing 00:10:17.68\00:10:19.88 to humble ourselves 00:10:19.91\00:10:21.55 and submit and accept the evidence for God? 00:10:21.58\00:10:25.65 It's not an intellectual issue. 00:10:25.69\00:10:27.56 Point number four, 00:10:27.59\00:10:28.92 nature reveals God's power and pre-existence. 00:10:28.96\00:10:33.40 The next verse, Romans 1:20, 00:10:33.43\00:10:36.10 "For since the creation of the world 00:10:36.13\00:10:37.80 His invisible attributes are clearly seen, 00:10:37.83\00:10:41.24 being understood by the things that are made, 00:10:41.27\00:10:43.37 even His eternal power and Godhead, 00:10:43.41\00:10:45.94 so that they are without excuse." 00:10:45.97\00:10:49.04 Now His invisible attributes, how are they seen? 00:10:49.08\00:10:51.25 They're seen through nature, they're seen through creation. 00:10:51.28\00:10:54.48 We understand God 00:10:54.52\00:10:56.18 through the things that He has made. 00:10:56.22\00:10:58.45 And then it says, 00:10:58.49\00:10:59.82 even what do we see through nature? 00:10:59.85\00:11:01.19 His eternal power and Godhead. 00:11:01.22\00:11:04.53 The universe contains an exhibition 00:11:04.56\00:11:06.76 of the power of God, 00:11:06.80\00:11:08.30 His omnipotence, 00:11:08.33\00:11:10.07 His power has existed from all eternity. 00:11:10.10\00:11:13.40 There's proof and creation of power 00:11:13.44\00:11:15.60 which existed before from all eternity 00:11:15.64\00:11:18.11 and that power belonged to an external being. 00:11:18.14\00:11:21.84 Even the pagan, the atheist, 00:11:21.88\00:11:23.48 those who do not know God 00:11:23.51\00:11:25.18 can see and understand this in creation. 00:11:25.21\00:11:29.25 The Bible says, "They are without excuse." 00:11:29.28\00:11:31.09 In other words, there's enough evidence for God 00:11:31.12\00:11:33.25 for His pre-existence, for His power, 00:11:33.29\00:11:35.59 that people are without excuse 00:11:35.62\00:11:38.73 to not accept Him and believe in Him. 00:11:38.76\00:11:41.40 Number five, we see this progression of sin, 00:11:41.43\00:11:44.03 and coupled with the progression of sin 00:11:44.07\00:11:46.13 is a suppression of truth. 00:11:46.17\00:11:49.84 And I see this as let's walk down 00:11:49.87\00:11:51.44 the last couple of minutes 00:11:51.47\00:11:52.81 we have this progression of sin. 00:11:52.84\00:11:54.18 First, I see the refusal to recognize God as creator, 00:11:54.21\00:11:57.08 that's in verse 21, the next verse, 00:11:57.11\00:11:59.41 because although they knew God, 00:11:59.45\00:12:01.05 they did not glorify Him as God, 00:12:01.08\00:12:03.62 nor were thankful, 00:12:03.65\00:12:05.49 but became futile in their thoughts 00:12:05.52\00:12:07.39 and their foolish hearts were darkened. 00:12:07.42\00:12:09.02 So they knew God. 00:12:09.06\00:12:10.39 Does that mean they were Christians? 00:12:10.43\00:12:11.76 I don't know. 00:12:11.79\00:12:13.13 But they had a knowledge of God, 00:12:13.16\00:12:14.63 but they did not glorify Him. 00:12:14.66\00:12:16.53 They did not submit their lives to His control. 00:12:16.56\00:12:19.80 They did not praise Him or recognize Him 00:12:19.83\00:12:22.64 in their thoughts. 00:12:22.67\00:12:24.01 So their minds become darkened. 00:12:24.04\00:12:25.67 It reminds me in 2 Corinthians 4:6. 00:12:25.71\00:12:28.44 God commanded the light to shine out of darkness. 00:12:28.48\00:12:30.71 God wants to shine into our darkened minds, 00:12:30.75\00:12:33.42 but they're refusing to accept God as creator 00:12:33.45\00:12:36.42 and their minds become darkened. 00:12:36.45\00:12:38.85 The next step, we see a false profession of wisdom. 00:12:38.89\00:12:41.82 It's the very next verse, verse 22. 00:12:41.86\00:12:44.03 Professing to be wise, they become fools. 00:12:44.06\00:12:46.43 Have you ever met an educated fool? 00:12:46.46\00:12:48.16 Have you ever met anybody who had a lot of education 00:12:48.20\00:12:50.57 or a lot of wisdom 00:12:50.60\00:12:51.93 or claim to be extremely intelligent 00:12:51.97\00:12:55.07 or intellectual, and yet they became fools, 00:12:55.10\00:12:58.37 because they had pushed aside God. 00:12:58.41\00:13:00.78 They had not chosen to accept Him as creator. 00:13:00.81\00:13:03.31 Their minds were darkened and they became fools. 00:13:03.35\00:13:06.82 The next step we see idol worship. 00:13:06.85\00:13:09.08 The next verse, 00:13:09.12\00:13:10.45 they substituted human creativity 00:13:10.49\00:13:12.59 and false gods for the Creator God. 00:13:12.62\00:13:14.62 Verse 23, 00:13:14.66\00:13:15.99 "They changed the glory of the incorruptible God 00:13:16.02\00:13:18.19 into an image made like corruptible man, 00:13:18.23\00:13:20.90 and birds and four-footed animals 00:13:20.93\00:13:22.63 and creeping things." 00:13:22.66\00:13:24.00 They turn to idol worship, 00:13:24.03\00:13:25.37 they turn to worshiping the creature 00:13:25.40\00:13:27.20 rather than the Creator. 00:13:27.24\00:13:29.34 Rejecting God leads to idolatry, 00:13:29.37\00:13:32.24 and polytheism. 00:13:32.27\00:13:34.21 Not necessarily atheism, but idolatry and polytheism. 00:13:34.24\00:13:39.01 Then the next step, we see 00:13:39.05\00:13:41.22 they begin to serve the creature 00:13:41.25\00:13:43.05 rather than the Creator. 00:13:43.08\00:13:44.55 Verse 25, 00:13:44.59\00:13:45.92 "Who exchange the truth of God for the lion 00:13:45.95\00:13:47.79 worshiped and serve the creature 00:13:47.82\00:13:49.36 rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever." 00:13:49.39\00:13:53.26 It is a lie that any creature can live independently of God, 00:13:53.29\00:13:58.07 for God is the one who created us. 00:13:58.10\00:14:01.10 God is the one who sustains us. 00:14:01.14\00:14:03.57 God is the one who redeems us and wants to set us free. 00:14:03.61\00:14:08.34 Amen. 00:14:08.38\00:14:09.71 Praise the Lord. Thank you so much. 00:14:09.74\00:14:11.25 That was beautiful. 00:14:11.28\00:14:12.61 I think on Monday's lesson, 00:14:12.65\00:14:14.55 it's entitled, The Beauty of Holiness. 00:14:14.58\00:14:16.58 This is one we've kind of the title is there 00:14:16.62\00:14:18.95 in a previous lesson, 00:14:18.99\00:14:20.32 but in this particular lesson, today, 00:14:20.36\00:14:21.82 we're going to be looking at the arts. 00:14:21.86\00:14:23.99 And as I was preparing for this lesson, 00:14:24.03\00:14:25.86 I just wanted to entertain myself 00:14:25.89\00:14:27.60 and somewhat instruct myself 00:14:27.63\00:14:30.37 on delve the many different parts 00:14:30.40\00:14:32.00 that are out there. 00:14:32.03\00:14:33.37 And there were so many 00:14:33.40\00:14:34.74 as I was going through the list, 00:14:34.77\00:14:36.10 I thought, man, there's no way 00:14:36.14\00:14:37.47 I'm going to be able to include all of these 00:14:37.51\00:14:38.84 but I just wrote a few down here. 00:14:38.87\00:14:40.21 When we're thinking of the arts, 00:14:40.24\00:14:42.54 arts like architecture, 00:14:42.58\00:14:45.01 looking at, here's a, here's an interesting one. 00:14:45.05\00:14:47.62 It's more of a modern art, 00:14:47.65\00:14:48.98 but body art, the art of cinema, 00:14:49.02\00:14:53.12 the art of dance, the digital arts, 00:14:53.15\00:14:55.19 drawing and painting, 00:14:55.22\00:14:56.96 talking about the art of musical performance 00:14:56.99\00:14:59.33 or the vocal arts. 00:14:59.36\00:15:00.70 We have the art of photography, 00:15:00.73\00:15:02.50 we have the art of poetry and writing, 00:15:02.53\00:15:04.43 the art of pottery or sculpting. 00:15:04.47\00:15:06.87 We also have the art of theater 00:15:06.90\00:15:08.90 and, of course, the art of woodwork. 00:15:08.94\00:15:10.81 Those are just a few to name them. 00:15:10.84\00:15:12.94 But our lesson starts out with Psalms 96:9, 00:15:12.97\00:15:17.61 a very simple but profound scripture 00:15:17.65\00:15:20.65 that's just stuck with me all this week, 00:15:20.68\00:15:22.58 as I've been studying it. 00:15:22.62\00:15:23.95 It says, "Oh, worship the Lord 00:15:23.99\00:15:25.75 in the beauty of holiness! 00:15:25.79\00:15:28.19 Tremble before Him, all the earth." 00:15:28.22\00:15:31.66 So worship the Lord in beauty of holiness. 00:15:31.69\00:15:34.46 And we're going to get to the worship aspect 00:15:34.50\00:15:36.20 in just a moment. 00:15:36.23\00:15:37.57 But there's a question in the lesson 00:15:37.60\00:15:39.00 in association with this particular text. 00:15:39.03\00:15:41.24 And this is what the lesson ask. 00:15:41.27\00:15:42.60 It says, "What should this mean to a Christian? 00:15:42.64\00:15:45.21 Again, worship the Lord in beauty and holiness. 00:15:45.24\00:15:48.71 So what should this mean to a Christian? 00:15:48.74\00:15:50.65 And how should it impact what we teach about the art 00:15:50.68\00:15:54.45 and the beauty often associated with it?" 00:15:54.48\00:15:59.95 This was a very deep lesson. 00:15:59.99\00:16:01.42 And as I was preparing for it, 00:16:01.46\00:16:03.22 just more and more stuff started coming to my mind, 00:16:03.26\00:16:06.36 and I found myself having to throw things out, 00:16:06.39\00:16:08.73 because I couldn't present it all. 00:16:08.76\00:16:10.10 So pray for that clock, because here we go. 00:16:10.13\00:16:12.00 First of all, I want to repeat, 00:16:12.03\00:16:13.37 we want to be reminded 00:16:13.40\00:16:14.74 that 1 Peter 1:16 tells us this. 00:16:14.77\00:16:18.97 Very simple, but it says, because it is written, 00:16:19.01\00:16:22.24 this is God's words. 00:16:22.28\00:16:23.61 And actually Peter is quoting Leviticus 11:44, 00:16:23.65\00:16:28.55 very interesting chapter, 00:16:28.58\00:16:29.92 that's the chapter that we have the listing 00:16:29.95\00:16:31.89 of the clean and the unclean meats, 00:16:31.92\00:16:33.52 and all the things that God declared 00:16:33.56\00:16:35.26 to be clean to eat or clean, or not clean to eat. 00:16:35.29\00:16:39.13 Peter's quoting the Lord from Leviticus 11:44, 00:16:39.16\00:16:42.06 when God says, "Be holy, for I am holy." 00:16:42.10\00:16:46.70 God is calling us to holiness. 00:16:46.74\00:16:49.20 Now, again, that's, 00:16:49.24\00:16:50.57 you know, many people don't understand that. 00:16:50.61\00:16:51.97 They ask, what does that mean? 00:16:52.01\00:16:54.18 But there are multiple texts throughout the Bible 00:16:54.21\00:16:56.11 that help give us some insight as to what God's, 00:16:56.14\00:16:58.91 what does God mean? 00:16:58.95\00:17:00.28 He says, "Be holy, for I am holy." 00:17:00.32\00:17:01.78 Because most people would read that and say, 00:17:01.82\00:17:03.15 "That's impossible. 00:17:03.18\00:17:04.52 God's holiness is here, I'm not even holy." 00:17:04.55\00:17:07.92 Again, my righteousness is filthy rags. 00:17:07.96\00:17:09.92 So, but obviously, God would not have said that, 00:17:09.96\00:17:13.13 if He didn't mean what He said, right? 00:17:13.16\00:17:14.90 And so as I was preparing for this, 00:17:14.93\00:17:16.73 I thought, you know, Lord, 00:17:16.77\00:17:18.10 what are You talking about, be holy, for I am holy? 00:17:18.13\00:17:20.17 And there's a few texts that come to mind. 00:17:20.20\00:17:22.04 First of all, I want to go to Ezekiel Chapter 22, 00:17:22.07\00:17:24.57 because we see that in God calling us to be holy. 00:17:24.61\00:17:27.84 That also means that our choices 00:17:27.88\00:17:29.44 and our actions and our lifestyle 00:17:29.48\00:17:31.18 should reflect that of cleanness 00:17:31.21\00:17:33.25 or holiness or sanctification. 00:17:33.28\00:17:35.75 So Ezekiel 22:26. 00:17:35.78\00:17:38.22 Notice what it says here 00:17:38.25\00:17:39.59 in reference to those wicked priests, 00:17:39.62\00:17:41.46 those priests that had basically fallen 00:17:41.49\00:17:43.83 into apostasy, 00:17:43.86\00:17:45.19 and were teaching apostasy back in the days 00:17:45.23\00:17:47.60 when Israel was split and about to go into Babylon. 00:17:47.63\00:17:50.93 Notice what it says here, 00:17:50.97\00:17:52.30 "Her priests have violated My law 00:17:52.33\00:17:54.50 and profaned My holy things, 00:17:54.54\00:17:58.07 they have not distinguished between the holy and unholy." 00:17:58.11\00:18:02.58 So God wants us to be able to distinguish 00:18:02.61\00:18:04.55 between that which is holy, and that which is unholy. 00:18:04.58\00:18:06.85 We happen to live in a day and age where, 00:18:06.88\00:18:09.02 you know, especially in relation to the arts, 00:18:09.05\00:18:10.79 and we're going to get to a couple of examples 00:18:10.82\00:18:12.25 in just a moment but when it comes to the arts, 00:18:12.29\00:18:14.62 my friends, not all art is good. 00:18:14.66\00:18:16.22 We're going to make that point clear 00:18:16.26\00:18:17.59 and emphasize that more in just a few moments, 00:18:17.63\00:18:19.93 that God created art, 00:18:19.96\00:18:21.46 He gives us art but the devil takes it 00:18:21.50\00:18:23.57 and perverts it, right? 00:18:23.60\00:18:24.93 And we have to make sure that we're able to distinguish 00:18:24.97\00:18:26.67 between with that which is holy, 00:18:26.70\00:18:28.47 and that which is unholy. 00:18:28.50\00:18:29.84 He goes on to say, 00:18:29.87\00:18:31.21 "Nor have they made known the difference 00:18:31.24\00:18:32.57 between the unclean and the clean, 00:18:32.61\00:18:35.21 and they have hid their eyes from My Sabbath, 00:18:35.24\00:18:37.35 so that I am profaned among them." 00:18:37.38\00:18:40.48 Another scripture that comes to my mind 00:18:40.52\00:18:41.85 is 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 on the same point, 00:18:41.88\00:18:45.42 "For God did not call us to uncleanness 00:18:45.45\00:18:48.66 but in holiness, 00:18:48.69\00:18:50.73 therefore, he who rejects this does not reject men, 00:18:50.76\00:18:53.96 but God who has also given us His Holy Spirit." 00:18:54.00\00:18:57.87 If we're going to be led by the Spirit of God, 00:18:57.90\00:19:00.07 God is leading us to a clean life, 00:19:00.10\00:19:03.10 of making clean choices, 00:19:03.14\00:19:05.04 holy choices that will reflect His character. 00:19:05.07\00:19:08.04 So, you know, though it has been said before, 00:19:08.08\00:19:09.81 we've heard this saying many times, 00:19:09.84\00:19:11.18 you know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, 00:19:11.21\00:19:13.38 in the eyes of the beholder. 00:19:13.42\00:19:14.75 We mustn't forget who it was 00:19:14.78\00:19:16.65 who created the eye to begin with. 00:19:16.69\00:19:19.95 And I like that. 00:19:19.99\00:19:21.69 Proverbs 20:12, we don't have to go very far. 00:19:21.72\00:19:24.39 The Bible makes it very clear 00:19:24.43\00:19:25.76 as to who created these eyes and ears of ours. 00:19:25.79\00:19:28.80 Again, Proverbs 20:12. 00:19:28.83\00:19:30.47 The Bible says, 00:19:30.50\00:19:31.83 "The hearing ear and the seeing eye, 00:19:31.87\00:19:35.00 the Lord has made them both." 00:19:35.04\00:19:38.57 So if the Lord made them, 00:19:38.61\00:19:40.21 and we even have text in the New Testament, 00:19:40.24\00:19:42.01 believe it's 1 Corinthians 6, 00:19:42.04\00:19:43.95 where God makes it very, very clear. 00:19:43.98\00:19:45.48 Paul writes, 00:19:45.51\00:19:46.85 and says that Jesus Christ has bought us at a price. 00:19:46.88\00:19:49.42 We are not our own. These eyes are not our eyes. 00:19:49.45\00:19:51.79 These ears are not our ears. 00:19:51.82\00:19:53.25 And so God is calling us, what does the lesson say? 00:19:53.29\00:19:56.69 It says, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. 00:19:56.73\00:20:00.06 The beauty must be holy. 00:20:00.10\00:20:02.06 We're going to, 00:20:02.10\00:20:03.43 if we're going to enjoy the arts, 00:20:03.47\00:20:04.80 we need to make sure that those arts 00:20:04.83\00:20:06.17 reflect that of the character of Jesus. 00:20:06.20\00:20:09.30 You know, I'm also reminded in Ephesians 6:12-13. 00:20:09.34\00:20:13.81 It says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, 00:20:13.84\00:20:16.41 but against principalities, against powers, 00:20:16.44\00:20:18.25 against the rulers of the darkness of this age, 00:20:18.28\00:20:21.12 against spiritual hosts and wickedness 00:20:21.15\00:20:22.98 of the heavenly places. 00:20:23.02\00:20:24.45 Therefore, take up the whole armor of God," 00:20:24.49\00:20:26.86 notice this, we're engaged in spiritual warfare, 00:20:26.89\00:20:29.82 what is God instructing us to do? 00:20:29.86\00:20:31.63 "Take up the whole armor of God, 00:20:31.66\00:20:33.03 that you may be able to withstand the evil day, 00:20:33.06\00:20:36.10 and have done all to stand." 00:20:36.13\00:20:38.50 We have to equip ourselves 00:20:38.53\00:20:39.90 because we are engaged in spiritual warfare. 00:20:39.93\00:20:42.10 Now, why did I bring that up? 00:20:42.14\00:20:43.61 The eyes and the ears, my friends, 00:20:43.64\00:20:45.57 are a part of those spiritual supply lines 00:20:45.61\00:20:48.34 that feed our lives. 00:20:48.38\00:20:49.71 We can open those spiritual supply lines 00:20:49.74\00:20:51.31 to the Lord, and be blessed. 00:20:51.35\00:20:53.42 Or we can open those spiritual supply lines 00:20:53.45\00:20:56.28 to a different spirit, 00:20:56.32\00:20:57.75 and be contaminated and be changed, 00:20:57.79\00:21:00.42 and not in a good way. 00:21:00.46\00:21:01.79 Our eyes and ears are major parts 00:21:01.82\00:21:04.03 of this spiritual supply line. 00:21:04.06\00:21:05.39 And we've got to make sure that we safeguard it 00:21:05.43\00:21:07.50 and that we worship in the beauty of holiness, 00:21:07.53\00:21:10.90 that is God says, "Be holy as I am holy." 00:21:10.93\00:21:14.50 I think of Proverbs 23:12 which says, 00:21:14.54\00:21:17.31 apply your heart to instruction 00:21:17.34\00:21:19.17 and your ears to the words of knowledge. 00:21:19.21\00:21:21.94 I'm going to go fast here. 00:21:21.98\00:21:23.31 So again, you can watch this on YouTube 00:21:23.35\00:21:24.81 if I'm going too fast, 00:21:24.85\00:21:26.18 you can pause and go back and take notes. 00:21:26.21\00:21:27.55 Mark 4:24. 00:21:27.58\00:21:28.92 I love what Jesus says here. 00:21:28.95\00:21:30.29 Very simple, but very profound. 00:21:30.32\00:21:31.92 He says, "Take heed what you hear, safeguard it, 00:21:31.95\00:21:35.62 make sure you're understanding what it is 00:21:35.66\00:21:37.13 that you're allowing to go into these ears." 00:21:37.16\00:21:39.86 Psalms 101:3 says, 00:21:39.89\00:21:41.23 "I will set no wicked thing before my eyes." 00:21:41.26\00:21:45.07 And we have that choice. 00:21:45.10\00:21:46.43 God has not taken that choice away from us. 00:21:46.47\00:21:47.90 But many of us, 00:21:47.94\00:21:49.27 we misuse and abuse this blessing of sight. 00:21:49.30\00:21:51.64 That's why Jesus said in Matthew 6:22, 00:21:51.67\00:21:53.58 "That the lamp of the body is the eye 00:21:53.61\00:21:55.64 and therefore your eye is good, 00:21:55.68\00:21:57.55 your whole body will be full of light." 00:21:57.58\00:22:00.82 And so there's so much that you know, 00:22:00.85\00:22:02.22 and as I was studying this, 00:22:02.25\00:22:04.22 I was brought back to Genesis Chapter 3, 00:22:04.25\00:22:06.05 because you never consider it in this way 00:22:06.09\00:22:07.42 but it actually says right there in Genesis 3:6, 00:22:07.46\00:22:10.43 Adam and Eve, who had known no sin, 00:22:10.46\00:22:12.59 in their perfect state, 00:22:12.63\00:22:13.96 it says, so the woman saw that the tree, 00:22:14.00\00:22:16.03 notice, she saw that the tree was good for food, 00:22:16.06\00:22:18.77 that it was pleasant to the eyes, 00:22:18.80\00:22:21.20 and a tree desirable to make one wise, 00:22:21.24\00:22:23.91 she took of its fruit and ate, 00:22:23.94\00:22:25.57 she also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 00:22:25.61\00:22:28.54 They were overtaken by the beauty 00:22:28.58\00:22:30.15 of what they were seeing. 00:22:30.18\00:22:31.51 But, you know, 00:22:31.55\00:22:32.88 as with everything God has done, 00:22:32.91\00:22:34.78 we have an enemy who distorts and exploits it. 00:22:34.82\00:22:37.95 And we have to be reminded that, 00:22:37.99\00:22:39.59 you know, it shouldn't be surprising 00:22:39.62\00:22:42.22 that beauty and concepts of beauty 00:22:42.26\00:22:43.66 can be used against us. 00:22:43.69\00:22:45.46 In this case, we see 00:22:45.49\00:22:47.03 that I'm sure that tree of knowledge 00:22:47.06\00:22:48.40 of good and evil was a beautiful sight, 00:22:48.43\00:22:49.76 I'm sure that fruit look like something 00:22:49.80\00:22:51.30 you just wanted to, 00:22:51.33\00:22:52.80 I don't know, just take a big bite 00:22:52.83\00:22:54.17 out of which they did. 00:22:54.20\00:22:55.57 But obviously, we have to know that especially with the arts, 00:22:55.60\00:22:59.27 Christian education, 00:22:59.31\00:23:00.91 guided by scripture must help us to learn 00:23:00.94\00:23:03.01 to be careful in understanding 00:23:03.04\00:23:05.95 that not all that is beautiful is necessarily good or holy. 00:23:05.98\00:23:09.85 I think of Cain and Abel in their worship, 00:23:09.88\00:23:12.15 you know, God asked them to bring an offering. 00:23:12.19\00:23:14.99 He asked them to worship Him, 00:23:15.02\00:23:16.42 but He gave them specific instructions. 00:23:16.46\00:23:18.56 One brought the correct thing. 00:23:18.59\00:23:19.93 The other said, "You know what? 00:23:19.96\00:23:21.30 I think this will be more pleasing to God." 00:23:21.33\00:23:22.66 And so you have these people 00:23:22.70\00:23:24.03 that even in the aspect of worship, 00:23:24.07\00:23:25.40 and that's what our text said, 00:23:25.43\00:23:26.87 going back to our original text, 00:23:26.90\00:23:28.40 worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. 00:23:28.44\00:23:30.74 This is where that worship aspect comes in. 00:23:30.77\00:23:32.91 We have to be careful, my friends, 00:23:32.94\00:23:34.28 and understand 00:23:34.31\00:23:35.64 that not everything is acceptable by God. 00:23:35.68\00:23:37.55 In this case, Cain and Abel is a prime example. 00:23:37.58\00:23:39.48 One gave what God asked for, one didn't. 00:23:39.51\00:23:41.75 And the one who didn't thought he was going to get by with it. 00:23:41.78\00:23:44.22 Oh, surely, the Lord knows my heart, 00:23:44.25\00:23:46.49 and He's going to accept what I brought to Him. 00:23:46.52\00:23:48.02 But the Lord said, "That's not what I asked for." 00:23:48.06\00:23:50.23 And the same thing goes 00:23:50.26\00:23:51.59 with all of the arts, my friends. 00:23:51.63\00:23:52.96 I love music. 00:23:52.99\00:23:54.46 And music is one of those things 00:23:54.50\00:23:56.10 that not all music is acceptable to the Lord. 00:23:56.13\00:23:58.70 Therefore, it's not acceptable to me. 00:23:58.73\00:24:00.70 And we go through all of these arts, my friends, 00:24:00.74\00:24:02.44 but the point of the matter is, 00:24:02.47\00:24:03.81 we have to understand that we must worship the Lord 00:24:03.84\00:24:08.58 in the beauty of holiness, 00:24:08.61\00:24:10.38 make sure that as He is holy, we are holy, 00:24:10.41\00:24:12.85 and our choices reflect that of the Lord. 00:24:12.88\00:24:15.52 Amen. 00:24:15.55\00:24:16.89 Thank you so much, Ryan. 00:24:16.92\00:24:18.25 What an incredible study. 00:24:18.29\00:24:19.62 Holiness is a high calling, 00:24:19.65\00:24:20.99 but the Lord Jesus gives us that power to do that. 00:24:21.02\00:24:23.43 Amen. 00:24:23.46\00:24:24.79 We're going to take a short break, 00:24:24.83\00:24:26.16 we'll be right back. 00:24:26.19\00:24:27.53 Ever wish you could watch 00:24:31.50\00:24:32.83 a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel again, 00:24:32.87\00:24:34.94 or share it on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter? 00:25:21.08\00:25:23.28 I think we can agree to that. 00:25:23.32\00:25:24.95 But I thought, well, maybe we should break down 00:25:24.99\00:25:27.56 the meaning of the word expert. 00:25:27.59\00:25:29.76 So I looked in the dictionary first place, 00:25:29.79\00:25:31.59 it says, "An expert is a person 00:25:31.63\00:25:33.86 who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge 00:25:33.90\00:25:37.43 of or skill in a particular area." 00:25:37.47\00:25:41.27 Now, I used to work in construction 00:25:41.30\00:25:42.90 for a lot of years, 00:25:42.94\00:25:44.27 and I hired people to work for me. 00:25:44.31\00:25:45.97 And I would ask them, sometimes somebody say, 00:25:46.01\00:25:47.88 hey, I need a job and say, 00:25:47.91\00:25:49.54 well, because I always like talking to people, 00:25:49.58\00:25:52.01 but I say, "Well, are you a beginner? 00:25:52.05\00:25:55.02 Would you call yourself you know, intermediate, 00:25:55.05\00:25:57.65 you're professional, you're an expert." 00:25:57.69\00:25:59.65 And I was always surprised. 00:25:59.69\00:26:01.02 Said, I'm an expert. 00:26:01.06\00:26:02.39 I've been doing this job for about 15 years. 00:26:02.42\00:26:05.46 Well, you hire them and you find out 00:26:05.49\00:26:07.00 they might get to intermediate. 00:26:07.03\00:26:09.00 And we're not expert at all. 00:26:09.03\00:26:10.47 So someone helped me break the word down 00:26:10.50\00:26:13.10 expert one time. 00:26:13.13\00:26:14.64 So that's the meaning that we hear, 00:26:14.67\00:26:16.40 but in the real world and where I was working, 00:26:16.44\00:26:18.57 Shelley, we broke it down to say in this, of course, 00:26:18.61\00:26:21.28 my own little doing and I didn't do that well 00:26:21.31\00:26:23.08 in English in school, 00:26:23.11\00:26:24.48 but ex is has-been 00:26:24.51\00:26:26.18 and it spurts to drip under pressure. 00:26:26.21\00:26:28.25 So it doesn't always mean 00:26:28.28\00:26:29.98 that you know what you're doing. 00:26:30.02\00:26:31.65 So you can be an expert in error. 00:26:31.69\00:26:35.22 So don't spell that 00:26:35.26\00:26:36.76 because you'll find out it doesn't work 00:26:36.79\00:26:38.19 when you spell spurt is not the same. 00:26:38.23\00:26:40.30 That's not the same one. 00:26:40.33\00:26:41.66 But anyway, I thought it worked for an illustration. 00:26:41.70\00:26:44.30 But what I'm interested and what I think about, 00:26:44.33\00:26:46.67 what do you think about 00:26:46.70\00:26:48.04 when you think about experts in error? 00:26:48.07\00:26:50.34 I mean, literally, the very first thing 00:26:50.37\00:26:52.47 comes to my mind is, 00:26:52.51\00:26:54.54 is preachers and teachers of the Word of God. 00:26:54.58\00:26:57.68 Politicians may be experts in error, 00:26:57.71\00:27:00.32 because everybody has the truth, and everybody, 00:27:00.35\00:27:03.69 but there are certain people that I believe, 00:27:03.72\00:27:06.32 and all of us here and many of you 00:27:06.35\00:27:08.42 are going to be held accountable. 00:27:08.46\00:27:10.86 To much is given, much is required. 00:27:10.89\00:27:13.13 So we have to especially be careful 00:27:13.16\00:27:16.33 what we're teaching that it is of the Word of God. 00:27:16.36\00:27:19.97 So I'm amazed at how many people trust 00:27:20.00\00:27:22.60 the opinions of preachers and teachers 00:27:22.64\00:27:26.21 for their spiritual well, well-being. 00:27:26.24\00:27:29.48 Well, my preacher said it, so it's okay. 00:27:29.51\00:27:31.85 They'll listen Pastor John on the air, 00:27:31.88\00:27:33.72 and he gives us great sermon on the Sabbath. 00:27:33.75\00:27:36.69 They go ask their pastor, and he says, 00:27:36.72\00:27:38.72 "Oh, well, that's the old law, was done away with?" 00:27:38.75\00:27:41.32 Well, John apparently does know what he's talking about. 00:27:41.36\00:27:44.13 Yet, he was using the Bible as his guide. 00:27:44.16\00:27:46.70 So we just toss that out. 00:27:46.73\00:27:48.23 Now, we will do that, 00:27:48.26\00:27:49.90 so many of us will literally trust 00:27:49.93\00:27:52.83 other people 00:27:52.87\00:27:54.20 when it comes to our spiritual welfare. 00:27:54.24\00:27:56.74 And I wonder why? 00:27:56.77\00:27:58.11 Because I think about it. 00:27:58.14\00:27:59.47 Do you trust, let me ask at home? 00:27:59.51\00:28:01.21 When you go trade your car in, 00:28:01.24\00:28:03.24 do you trust the car salesman on the worth 00:28:03.28\00:28:05.45 when he gives you the value of your car trade in? 00:28:05.48\00:28:08.15 Or do you do your own research? 00:28:08.18\00:28:10.72 I would think you probably do your own research. 00:28:10.75\00:28:12.92 When you go buy a house, 00:28:12.95\00:28:14.29 you read about it in a newspaper. 00:28:14.32\00:28:16.09 Now, maybe it's through real estate. 00:28:16.12\00:28:17.86 So you call them and say, tell me about the house? 00:28:17.89\00:28:20.33 They tell you about the house all the good qualities, 00:28:20.36\00:28:23.43 and say, here's how much it is and you say I'll buy it. 00:28:23.47\00:28:26.57 Do you do that? 00:28:26.60\00:28:27.94 Or do you, do you do home study? 00:28:27.97\00:28:29.90 You do your little homework, you do your research. 00:28:29.94\00:28:31.87 Why? 00:28:31.91\00:28:33.24 Because you should, 00:28:33.27\00:28:34.61 it makes sense that we should be educated, 00:28:34.64\00:28:36.85 even in the physical, 00:28:36.88\00:28:38.21 but we're talking about the spiritual 00:28:38.25\00:28:39.68 and the physical couple years ago. 00:28:39.71\00:28:43.08 As you guys know, I played basketball run full court up, 00:28:43.12\00:28:45.82 never knew I had anything wrong with me, 00:28:45.85\00:28:47.66 but did a test 00:28:47.69\00:28:49.72 and it came out they did an angiogram 00:28:49.76\00:28:51.73 or angioplasty. 00:28:51.76\00:28:53.09 And they said, uh-oh, 00:28:53.13\00:28:54.46 a doctor came up in the afternoon. 00:28:54.50\00:28:56.26 I took the test, they said, we're going to admit you, 00:28:56.30\00:28:58.73 and a man I've never seen in my life 00:28:58.77\00:29:00.74 came up and said, 00:29:00.77\00:29:02.10 "Hi, I'm Dr. so and so. 00:29:02.14\00:29:03.71 And tomorrow morning, 00:29:03.74\00:29:05.07 I'm going to be doing open heart surgery on you, 00:29:05.11\00:29:07.08 I'm gonna do a quadruple bypass." 00:29:07.11\00:29:09.54 And so I looked at him and I said, 00:29:09.58\00:29:11.95 "Well, I don't mean to be rude about this, but who said?" 00:29:11.98\00:29:15.55 And he said, "Well, what do you mean, did you get? 00:29:15.58\00:29:17.85 I'm telling you the results of your test." 00:29:17.89\00:29:19.72 I said, number one, I don't know you. 00:29:19.75\00:29:21.62 And I don't know how, 00:29:21.66\00:29:22.99 you know, we don't know each other. 00:29:23.02\00:29:24.59 I don't even know 00:29:24.63\00:29:25.96 if I want it done at this hospital. 00:29:25.99\00:29:27.86 So I didn't come in here like have a heart attack. 00:29:27.90\00:29:30.77 It wasn't emergency, I walked in my own two feet. 00:29:30.80\00:29:33.50 Now, am I, why am I needing the surgery? 00:29:33.54\00:29:38.24 He said, "Well, your widowmaker is calcified. 00:29:38.27\00:29:42.78 And so the other arteries aren't that bad, 00:29:42.81\00:29:44.98 but it's not even that close. 00:29:45.01\00:29:46.75 But if that breaks off, you could die. 00:29:46.78\00:29:48.45 That's why they call it the widowmaker." 00:29:48.48\00:29:50.92 So he says, I said, 00:29:50.95\00:29:52.49 "But I could be playing basketball. 00:29:52.52\00:29:53.86 I could be living 00:29:53.89\00:29:55.22 another five years before it happens." 00:29:55.26\00:29:56.59 "Yeah." 00:29:56.62\00:29:57.96 I said "Well, let me go do some research." 00:29:57.99\00:29:59.33 So I did, called Dr. Marcum, you know, cardiologist, 00:29:59.36\00:30:01.93 he did research and I came back and used the different doctor, 00:30:01.96\00:30:05.30 went to the hospital that we thought was best, 00:30:05.33\00:30:07.70 and I did it. 00:30:07.74\00:30:09.07 Now that's in the physical. 00:30:09.10\00:30:10.44 So but in the spiritual would I be any differently, 00:30:10.47\00:30:12.94 should I be any differently when my pastor says 00:30:12.97\00:30:15.71 or televangelist says, 00:30:15.74\00:30:17.35 "Well, look, you don't have to worry 00:30:17.38\00:30:18.71 about the Ten Commandments, they're done away with." 00:30:18.75\00:30:21.12 So I say, "Okay, that's good enough for me." 00:30:21.15\00:30:23.39 Now these decisions can be their eternal decisions, 00:30:23.42\00:30:27.76 they can be our eternal life. 00:30:27.79\00:30:29.92 And so that's why they say experts in error. 00:30:29.96\00:30:31.89 I was like, man, I can't believe that. 00:30:31.93\00:30:33.36 I'm amazed 00:30:33.40\00:30:34.73 at all the theological seminaries 00:30:34.76\00:30:36.90 around the world that haven't figured out. 00:30:36.93\00:30:39.40 And these are theologians. 00:30:39.43\00:30:41.30 They have not figured out the Ten Commandments 00:30:41.34\00:30:43.10 were not nailed to the cross. 00:30:43.14\00:30:44.74 They haven't figured out that they're still valid 00:30:44.77\00:30:46.68 and will be through eternity 00:30:46.71\00:30:48.54 that there are transcripts of God's own character. 00:30:48.58\00:30:51.31 And there's nothing you're going to nail 00:30:51.35\00:30:52.68 to the cross 00:30:52.71\00:30:54.05 because it's all for us, not against us. 00:30:54.08\00:30:56.28 And yet these people are experts in their fields. 00:30:56.32\00:31:00.29 But I think we'd have to say experts in error. 00:31:00.32\00:31:02.32 Now, I'm not naming names, 00:31:02.36\00:31:03.99 but I watch televangelists 00:31:04.03\00:31:05.99 and some of these televangelists, 00:31:06.03\00:31:08.00 my brother once wrote to one and said, 00:31:08.03\00:31:10.53 "You are so good. 00:31:10.57\00:31:11.90 You seem to be so knowledgeable, 00:31:11.93\00:31:13.57 but what about the Sabbath, the seventh day Sabbath? 00:31:13.60\00:31:16.87 You never, you just write it off." 00:31:16.91\00:31:19.11 And the guy wrote back or had an associate write back 00:31:19.14\00:31:22.28 on behalf of this well-known evangelist, 00:31:22.31\00:31:24.55 most of you would know, you know what he said? 00:31:24.58\00:31:28.38 "Well, the truth is, you're right about that, 00:31:28.42\00:31:31.95 you Adventists are right about it. 00:31:31.99\00:31:33.56 But if I preached that message, I would lose all of my, 00:31:33.59\00:31:37.89 almost all of my audience. 00:31:37.93\00:31:39.59 And I'm worried I need this audience 00:31:39.63\00:31:41.46 because there's so many people need to be saved." 00:31:41.50\00:31:44.17 Well, that made him an expert in error, 00:31:44.20\00:31:46.70 as far as I'm concerned, 00:31:46.74\00:31:48.07 because he didn't really preach truth. 00:31:48.10\00:31:50.21 Now, maybe he preached some truth. 00:31:50.24\00:31:52.47 But it's either all truth or not truth. 00:31:52.51\00:31:54.61 I mean, I don't guess you can, you know, it's like saying, 00:31:54.64\00:31:57.31 somebody told a half lie. 00:31:57.35\00:31:58.98 You know, is there such a thing as a half lie? 00:31:59.01\00:32:01.12 Is it either truth, or it was a lie. 00:32:01.15\00:32:03.62 So for each and every one of us... 00:32:03.65\00:32:07.06 Richard Bland told me this. 00:32:07.09\00:32:08.42 I thought it was so amazing. 00:32:08.46\00:32:09.79 Richard Bland 00:32:09.82\00:32:11.16 of the United Prison Ministries. 00:32:11.19\00:32:12.53 He told me that when, 00:32:12.56\00:32:14.16 and I'm doing this in relationship 00:32:14.20\00:32:16.73 to these theological seminaries 00:32:16.77\00:32:18.40 that haven't figured out the commandments. 00:32:18.43\00:32:20.34 He said, "I would take a man of Bible in a prison. 00:32:20.37\00:32:23.20 They've never heard the name of Jesus, 00:32:23.24\00:32:24.77 except when it's been used in vain. 00:32:24.81\00:32:27.78 I hand them the Bible. 00:32:27.81\00:32:29.51 They read the Bible. 00:32:29.54\00:32:30.88 I'll come back six weeks later, and when we're talking, 00:32:30.91\00:32:34.05 he says, the pastor, 00:32:34.08\00:32:36.28 whoever is that they had, 00:32:36.32\00:32:37.75 you know, can chaplain or camp combined. 00:32:37.79\00:32:40.39 They said, "Why are we having 00:32:40.42\00:32:42.46 sermons on our church on Sunday?" 00:32:42.49\00:32:45.23 Now, here's somebody who's never read the Bible, 00:32:45.26\00:32:47.13 but they don't. 00:32:47.16\00:32:48.50 They've never been to seminary. 00:32:48.53\00:32:49.86 They've never, they don't know. They're not theologians. 00:32:49.90\00:32:51.47 And they say, why do we go to church on Sunday? 00:32:51.50\00:32:53.67 And the chaplain's like, "Well, I don't know." 00:32:53.70\00:32:55.40 Richard comes in and they say, 00:32:55.44\00:32:57.01 "Why do we go to church on Sunday? 00:32:57.04\00:32:58.37 Said, "We don't, we go on Saturday?" 00:32:58.41\00:33:00.44 And who told you that, what's in the Bible? 00:33:00.48\00:33:02.98 Saturday is the Sabbath, why doesn't people keep it? 00:33:03.01\00:33:05.25 So Ellen White makes a statement. 00:33:05.28\00:33:08.12 She says, "Five seconds under the tutelage 00:33:08.15\00:33:11.25 of the Holy Spirit 00:33:11.29\00:33:13.15 is worth more than years of literary 00:33:13.19\00:33:15.42 in a literary institution." 00:33:15.46\00:33:17.53 So what I'm suggesting 00:33:17.56\00:33:18.99 to each and every one of us today 00:33:19.03\00:33:20.66 is that in order for us to teach truth, 00:33:20.70\00:33:24.27 we can't be experts in error ourselves. 00:33:24.30\00:33:27.27 Lest do not leave our eternal life 00:33:27.30\00:33:30.01 and our salvations, 00:33:30.04\00:33:31.61 our salvation to anyone else, 00:33:31.64\00:33:34.04 study to show thyself approved, right? 00:33:34.08\00:33:37.58 So that's, that's what the Bible tells us study. 00:33:37.61\00:33:39.45 So each one of us are responsible. 00:33:39.48\00:33:41.68 Then once we know the truth, we have the Great Commission, 00:33:41.72\00:33:44.92 go and tell others what Jesus has done for us. 00:33:44.95\00:33:47.86 You see, your own personal testimony 00:33:47.89\00:33:50.06 is your greatest asset. 00:33:50.09\00:33:52.19 The world didn't give that, the world can't take it away. 00:33:52.23\00:33:54.66 Nobody can tell you any differently, 00:33:54.70\00:33:57.07 your personal testimony of what Jesus has done for you. 00:33:57.10\00:34:00.24 So when we look to Jesus, we learn the truth. 00:34:00.27\00:34:02.67 He says, "Go ye into all the world." 00:34:02.70\00:34:05.24 Literally, that's a great gospel commission 00:34:05.27\00:34:07.71 for each and every one of us. 00:34:07.74\00:34:09.08 And I'm so thankful to be a part of that. 00:34:09.11\00:34:10.98 So again, I didn't know where to start 00:34:11.01\00:34:12.91 and where to stop on this 00:34:12.95\00:34:14.28 because I could talk for hours, 00:34:14.32\00:34:15.98 but I always think about pastor Rick Ortel, 00:34:16.02\00:34:18.12 had him in master control, 00:34:18.15\00:34:19.55 had been Assembly God minister for years, 00:34:19.59\00:34:22.09 and he came to work at 3ABN, put him in master control. 00:34:22.12\00:34:26.13 After about eight weeks, he said, 00:34:26.16\00:34:28.43 "I'm a pastor been 25 years. 00:34:28.46\00:34:30.83 I never knew Saturday was the Sabbath, 00:34:30.87\00:34:32.53 and I didn't know the commandments 00:34:32.57\00:34:34.30 weren't nailed to the cross." 00:34:34.34\00:34:35.67 He went into pastoral, 00:34:35.70\00:34:37.04 we hired another Assembly God minister, 00:34:37.07\00:34:38.77 same thing after three months. 00:34:38.81\00:34:40.74 And later, another man who is Assembly God minister, 00:34:40.78\00:34:44.11 because once they were exposed, 00:34:44.15\00:34:45.61 they said we've never been exposed. 00:34:45.65\00:34:47.25 We went to the seminaries, 00:34:47.28\00:34:48.62 but we listened to what the people taught us 00:34:48.65\00:34:51.62 and we never put the association ourselves, 00:34:51.65\00:34:54.29 but we're so glad we came to 3ABN 00:34:54.32\00:34:56.79 so I'm talking fast as you said, 00:34:56.83\00:34:58.83 but I want you to know that God expects 00:34:58.86\00:35:00.60 each and every one of us to search out truth, 00:35:00.63\00:35:03.67 and then to be able to share that 00:35:03.70\00:35:05.03 with the lost and dying world. 00:35:05.07\00:35:06.40 Amen. Wow. 00:35:06.43\00:35:07.77 Thank you, Danny. 00:35:07.80\00:35:09.14 I tell you, right, experts in error. 00:35:09.17\00:35:12.21 Oh, I tell you, 00:35:12.24\00:35:13.58 that's another sermon title, Ryan, 00:35:13.61\00:35:14.94 don't you preach it before I do. 00:35:14.98\00:35:16.75 But anyhow, that's a really amazing one. 00:35:16.78\00:35:19.51 And what we want to do is humbly say 00:35:19.55\00:35:20.88 that there are honestly, 00:35:20.92\00:35:22.25 and I think Danny mentioned this, 00:35:22.28\00:35:23.62 there are honestly people that just don't know. 00:35:23.65\00:35:25.42 And I think that as he pointed out the examples of the pastors 00:35:25.45\00:35:28.06 that have been here and others, 00:35:28.09\00:35:30.06 others of you who have heard the truth 00:35:30.09\00:35:31.43 and responded to it, 00:35:31.46\00:35:33.33 the obligation we have is not to tout our ignorance, 00:35:33.36\00:35:37.00 but to look for wisdom and understanding 00:35:37.03\00:35:39.37 and ask God to lead and guide our minds. 00:35:39.40\00:35:41.64 And the evidence is clear. 00:35:41.67\00:35:43.00 Shelley can testify on that, Ryan can. 00:35:43.04\00:35:45.21 And I can tell you, I have a testimony there too. 00:35:45.24\00:35:47.18 I was raised thinking that I knew it all 00:35:47.21\00:35:49.74 being raised in an Adventist home, 00:35:49.78\00:35:51.38 but I never had a connection to Christ. 00:35:51.41\00:35:53.55 So the other side of that could be, 00:35:53.58\00:35:55.35 you have all the knowledge, but you don't know Jesus. 00:35:55.38\00:35:57.89 So in both cases, you can be an expert in error. 00:35:57.92\00:36:00.66 So having all the knowledge 00:36:00.69\00:36:02.02 but not knowing Jesus 00:36:02.06\00:36:03.39 is just as lost as a person that think they know Jesus, 00:36:03.43\00:36:06.66 but know Jesus but doesn't have the knowledge. 00:36:06.70\00:36:09.40 So there's a third category, whatever that is, 00:36:09.43\00:36:11.77 I'll come up with that later on. 00:36:11.80\00:36:13.74 Right, mine is now Foolishness and Wisdom. 00:36:13.77\00:36:17.21 And I thought I would never get a permission 00:36:17.24\00:36:18.84 to use the word fool so many times 00:36:18.87\00:36:21.51 as I looked in the Bible, 00:36:21.54\00:36:22.88 because you know, 00:36:22.91\00:36:24.25 you don't like to use the word fool. 00:36:24.28\00:36:25.61 The Bible uses the word fool 00:36:25.65\00:36:27.32 and the Bible uses the word hell. 00:36:27.35\00:36:29.12 When we talk about hellfire, we use the word hell, 00:36:29.15\00:36:31.55 but we don't like to use it because it's been twisted 00:36:31.59\00:36:33.82 in the eyes of the world. 00:36:33.86\00:36:35.62 But 201 times the Bible uses the word fool. 00:36:35.66\00:36:40.13 And I thought, I did not know 00:36:40.16\00:36:43.10 that the Bible has so much to say about foolishness. 00:36:43.13\00:36:46.40 Let's begin with Proverbs, 00:36:46.43\00:36:47.90 because Proverbs is a book I believe, 00:36:47.94\00:36:50.81 if I could summarize Proverbs, 00:36:50.84\00:36:52.44 it's dedicated to eradicating foolishness. 00:36:52.47\00:36:57.78 Proverbs is dedicated to eradicating foolishness. 00:36:57.81\00:37:01.78 Proverbs 1:1-2. 00:37:01.82\00:37:04.92 And my wife and I are now in the Book of Proverbs. 00:37:04.95\00:37:07.79 Finally, we thought we'd never get through Psalms. 00:37:07.82\00:37:09.72 We're now in the Book of Proverbs. 00:37:09.76\00:37:12.46 "The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, 00:37:12.49\00:37:14.73 king of Israel:" 00:37:14.76\00:37:17.03 notice, "To know wisdom and instruction, 00:37:17.07\00:37:22.97 to perceive the words of understanding." 00:37:23.00\00:37:27.88 Now, when you read the Book of Proverbs, 00:37:27.91\00:37:29.41 it's amazing because the Book of Proverbs 00:37:29.44\00:37:31.55 does well to remind us 00:37:31.58\00:37:33.92 of the dangers of being foolhardy. 00:37:33.95\00:37:36.62 That means of just throwing caution to the wind, 00:37:36.65\00:37:39.62 and that's a term 00:37:39.65\00:37:40.99 that you have to kind of think about it. 00:37:41.02\00:37:42.86 Because when you throw anything to the wind, 00:37:42.89\00:37:44.53 it blows it away. 00:37:44.56\00:37:46.39 When you think about throwing caution to the wind, 00:37:46.43\00:37:48.23 let me identify what I mean by that. 00:37:48.26\00:37:50.43 And, Danny, you laid the foundation for me, 00:37:50.47\00:37:52.97 when you don't consider 00:37:53.00\00:37:54.90 that your salvation is of such great importance, 00:37:54.94\00:37:58.04 that you don't put it in the hands of another person, 00:37:58.07\00:38:00.98 that's fool hearted. 00:38:01.01\00:38:03.65 Even the best theologian, even the best, 00:38:03.68\00:38:05.71 the most popular preacher or pastor 00:38:05.75\00:38:07.68 or well-known personality in a religious circle 00:38:07.72\00:38:11.55 don't put your salvation in the hand of any person. 00:38:11.59\00:38:15.66 Because that is, to me, the greatest example 00:38:15.69\00:38:18.06 of being a foolhardy. 00:38:18.09\00:38:20.03 It's like saying, "Well, it doesn't matter 00:38:20.06\00:38:21.43 what plane I go on, 00:38:21.46\00:38:22.80 I'm just going to go to the airport." 00:38:22.83\00:38:25.33 Doesn't matter. 00:38:25.37\00:38:26.87 I always like what the flight attendant say 00:38:26.90\00:38:28.54 just before, they said, 00:38:28.57\00:38:29.90 if your next stop is not, and they mention the city, 00:38:29.94\00:38:32.77 this is a good time to get off the plane. 00:38:32.81\00:38:35.24 And there are some people I saw it maybe once or twice 00:38:35.28\00:38:37.45 in all the years, 00:38:37.48\00:38:38.81 people got up and don't know how they. 00:38:38.85\00:38:40.85 One person walked up to me once on the plane and said, 00:38:40.88\00:38:42.95 You're on my seat. 00:38:42.98\00:38:45.29 The flight attendant said, "Can I see your ticket?" 00:38:45.32\00:38:46.92 I said, "Here it is." 00:38:46.96\00:38:48.46 And they said, "Sir, could I see your ticket?" 00:38:48.49\00:38:49.92 He said, "Here it is." 00:38:49.96\00:38:51.29 He said, "Sir, you're on the wrong flight." 00:38:51.33\00:38:54.10 They had the right seat, 00:38:54.13\00:38:55.46 but they were on the wrong flight 00:38:55.50\00:38:56.83 thought I was in their seat. 00:38:56.87\00:38:58.20 I felt really good about that, 00:38:58.23\00:38:59.57 because I was in first class at the time. 00:38:59.60\00:39:01.77 But I tell you, you got to know the details. 00:39:01.80\00:39:04.54 Your destination, your salvation, 00:39:04.57\00:39:07.24 is all the reason why foolishness cannot be 00:39:07.28\00:39:11.28 your choice above wisdom. 00:39:11.31\00:39:13.92 Now, when you look at Proverbs, 00:39:13.95\00:39:15.28 I wanna read something here 00:39:15.32\00:39:16.65 that was brought out in the lesson. 00:39:16.69\00:39:18.02 It says, "Knowledge must accompany discretion. 00:39:18.05\00:39:20.92 We can be capable of artistic brilliance 00:39:20.96\00:39:23.63 and scientific breakthroughs, 00:39:23.66\00:39:25.86 because of knowledge and ability. 00:39:25.89\00:39:28.26 Yet from a Christian perspective, 00:39:28.30\00:39:30.07 what does a knowledge of the arts and science 00:39:30.10\00:39:33.23 really mean 00:39:33.27\00:39:34.84 if it does not involve knowing the difference 00:39:34.87\00:39:37.41 between right and wrong, good and evil, truth and error? 00:39:37.44\00:39:41.94 What difference does it make? 00:39:41.98\00:39:43.31 So when people try to... 00:39:43.35\00:39:45.11 The great leveler, Ryan, 00:39:45.15\00:39:46.48 and maybe I think all of us in the circle 00:39:46.51\00:39:48.02 may have had this experience. 00:39:48.05\00:39:49.38 The great leveler 00:39:49.42\00:39:50.75 is when I'm in circles of people 00:39:50.79\00:39:52.12 that are highly intellectual, 00:39:52.15\00:39:54.29 I really I appreciate intellect and believe me, 00:39:54.32\00:39:56.49 I like intellectuality, I think it's a great thing. 00:39:56.52\00:39:58.89 I like my mind to be challenge and I read books that I've, 00:39:58.93\00:40:01.93 you know, on topics that I've never exposed myself 00:40:01.96\00:40:04.37 just to keep those. 00:40:04.40\00:40:05.83 You know, there's no such thing as you can't teach 00:40:05.87\00:40:07.64 an old dog new tricks. 00:40:07.67\00:40:09.00 You can always learn something, right? 00:40:09.04\00:40:10.91 As long as you're alive, you could learn something. 00:40:10.94\00:40:12.94 I like to be in those circles, 00:40:12.97\00:40:14.31 but then sometimes 00:40:14.34\00:40:15.68 I'm in these polysyllabic circles 00:40:15.71\00:40:17.05 and people say, what do you do? 00:40:17.08\00:40:18.41 And I begin to tell them and all of a sudden, 00:40:18.45\00:40:19.78 it's amazing, 00:40:19.81\00:40:21.15 these people that are highly intellectual, 00:40:21.18\00:40:22.52 highly accomplished, 00:40:22.55\00:40:23.89 they hit a wall 00:40:23.92\00:40:25.25 when you start talking about God. 00:40:25.29\00:40:27.16 And it shows me that moment, that yes, 00:40:27.19\00:40:31.76 the greatest intellect comes 00:40:31.79\00:40:34.00 when you are at the feet of Jesus. 00:40:34.03\00:40:36.40 So when these apostles were perceived 00:40:36.43\00:40:39.23 to be ignorant and unlearned, 00:40:39.27\00:40:41.67 they kept on preaching and the Bible said, 00:40:41.70\00:40:43.51 "Wait a minute, wait a minute. 00:40:43.54\00:40:44.94 It's evident they have been with Jesus." 00:40:44.97\00:40:47.04 So there are four kinds of fools 00:40:47.08\00:40:48.94 in the Bible. 00:40:48.98\00:40:50.31 So let's look at the four types of fools. 00:40:50.35\00:40:52.95 And then I'll tell you what to do 00:40:52.98\00:40:54.42 in reference to them. 00:40:54.45\00:40:55.78 Let's talk about the futility first, 00:40:55.82\00:40:57.65 the futility of foolishness. 00:40:57.69\00:40:59.95 Proverbs 1:7, the futility of the fool. 00:40:59.99\00:41:04.26 Here it is. 00:41:04.29\00:41:06.03 Proverbs 1:7, the Bible says, 00:41:06.06\00:41:07.60 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge." 00:41:07.63\00:41:12.37 Now, there's another one wisdom we talked, 00:41:12.40\00:41:14.14 but the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom, 00:41:14.17\00:41:19.61 and instruction. 00:41:19.64\00:41:21.91 And, but now we go from the futility of a fool 00:41:21.94\00:41:26.68 to the veracity of the wise. 00:41:26.72\00:41:29.68 Proverbs 9:9. 00:41:29.72\00:41:33.92 "Give instruction to a wise man, 00:41:33.96\00:41:37.76 and he will be still wiser. 00:41:37.79\00:41:40.50 Teach a just man, 00:41:40.53\00:41:42.20 and he will increase in learning." 00:41:42.23\00:41:44.53 Now, that's amazing, 00:41:44.57\00:41:45.90 because the Bible also talked about 00:41:45.93\00:41:48.24 and I'm paraphrasing. 00:41:48.27\00:41:50.24 Don't waste your time on a fool. 00:41:50.27\00:41:53.41 It'll be evident in about a minute or so 00:41:53.44\00:41:55.14 what category he's in 00:41:55.18\00:41:56.81 because sometimes you try to tell people 00:41:56.85\00:41:58.31 something for their own good 00:41:58.35\00:42:00.88 and it's like you're talking to a plant. 00:42:00.92\00:42:04.12 Because like, 00:42:04.15\00:42:05.49 they've gone all over the place 00:42:05.52\00:42:06.86 rather than receiving instruction. 00:42:06.89\00:42:08.32 So let's see why. 00:42:08.36\00:42:09.72 Let's see why these categories exist. 00:42:09.76\00:42:11.83 Let's look at the first kind of fool. 00:42:11.86\00:42:13.83 Look at now. 00:42:13.86\00:42:15.20 Proverbs 14:1, 00:42:15.23\00:42:16.90 this is the first kind of fool, very clear. 00:42:16.93\00:42:20.10 "The fool said in his heart, there is no God. 00:42:20.14\00:42:25.11 They are corrupt. 00:42:25.14\00:42:26.98 They have done abominable works. 00:42:27.01\00:42:29.31 There is none who does good." 00:42:29.34\00:42:31.15 So the first kind of fool 00:42:31.18\00:42:32.61 is an atheist. 00:42:32.65\00:42:38.75 But an atheist, 00:42:38.79\00:42:40.59 what makes it even more foolish 00:42:40.62\00:42:42.62 is why you spending money 00:42:42.66\00:42:45.26 to prove the non-existence of someone 00:42:45.29\00:42:47.66 unless you believe they exists. 00:42:47.70\00:42:49.26 There you go. 00:42:49.30\00:42:50.63 Why spend all that time fighting against somebody 00:42:50.67\00:42:52.70 who you don't believe exists? 00:42:52.73\00:42:54.30 It doesn't even make sense. 00:42:54.34\00:42:55.70 So to say there is no God 00:42:55.74\00:42:57.51 should end your argument right there. 00:42:57.54\00:42:59.47 But there's a second kind of fool. 00:42:59.51\00:43:00.84 It's a humbling topic to say these, 00:43:00.88\00:43:03.01 to say these phrases. 00:43:03.04\00:43:04.41 The second kind of fool is Proverbs 14:9. 00:43:04.45\00:43:07.88 Look at what the Bible says, 00:43:07.92\00:43:09.85 "Fools mock at sin, 00:43:09.88\00:43:13.96 but among the upright there is favor." 00:43:13.99\00:43:16.76 What kind of fool is that? 00:43:16.79\00:43:18.13 A person that thinks that sin will not impact 00:43:18.16\00:43:20.63 his or her destination, 00:43:20.66\00:43:22.20 and they just spend their time just diving into sin, 00:43:22.23\00:43:24.87 as though it has no impact on their destiny. 00:43:24.90\00:43:27.87 Fools mock at sin. 00:43:27.90\00:43:29.90 There's some people that say, 00:43:29.94\00:43:31.77 "Well, I just, I want to have all the fun I can. 00:43:31.81\00:43:34.41 And when I get to a certain age, 00:43:34.44\00:43:35.78 I'll give my life to the Lord." 00:43:35.81\00:43:40.02 As if you have a guarantee of tomorrow, 00:43:40.05\00:43:41.62 I know people that have died in their teen years, 00:43:41.65\00:43:44.02 and they didn't live long enough. 00:43:44.05\00:43:45.39 They live long enough, 00:43:45.42\00:43:46.76 but they never made the decision 00:43:46.79\00:43:48.12 to put away sin and accept Christ. 00:43:48.16\00:43:50.99 The third kind of fool, Luke 12:20, 00:43:51.03\00:43:55.03 you'll understand this one very clearly. 00:43:55.06\00:43:57.43 "But God said to him," 00:43:57.47\00:43:58.80 this is the one that pull all his bonds down, 00:43:58.83\00:44:01.40 but God said to him "'Fool! 00:44:01.44\00:44:04.17 This night your soul will be required of you, 00:44:04.21\00:44:07.41 then whose will those things be which you have provided?' " 00:44:07.44\00:44:11.78 The third kind of fool is the person 00:44:11.81\00:44:13.58 who trust in riches before he trusts in the Lord. 00:44:13.62\00:44:19.59 I think when I die, I'm going to be broke. 00:44:19.62\00:44:23.06 Now, you can be broke for two reasons. 00:44:23.09\00:44:25.49 You could be broke, 00:44:25.53\00:44:26.86 because you just throw your money away. 00:44:26.90\00:44:29.86 Or you can be broke 00:44:29.90\00:44:31.23 because you planned that when you die, 00:44:31.27\00:44:33.60 all your money go to the cause of God. 00:44:33.64\00:44:36.37 That's the kind of broke I want to be. 00:44:36.40\00:44:38.37 That when I close my eyes, whatever I leave behind, 00:44:38.41\00:44:41.21 goes to carry the gospel forward. 00:44:41.24\00:44:43.24 That's the kind of broke I want to be. 00:44:43.28\00:44:45.05 There's a fourth fool. 00:44:45.08\00:44:46.41 This is the last one. 00:44:46.45\00:44:48.02 Proverbs 23:9. 00:44:48.05\00:44:51.29 "Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, 00:44:51.32\00:44:53.96 for he will despise the wisdom of your words." 00:44:53.99\00:44:57.03 The fourth kind of fool is a person 00:44:57.06\00:44:58.59 who just doesn't want wisdom. 00:44:58.63\00:45:01.43 But do we have to be that way? No. 00:45:01.46\00:45:03.26 Nobel Prize winner said, 00:45:03.30\00:45:05.10 "An atheist man who studies the universe, 00:45:05.13\00:45:07.77 and physics forces behind it wrote, 00:45:07.80\00:45:11.37 this is what he said, 00:45:11.41\00:45:15.01 "The more the universe seems to be comprehensible, 00:45:15.04\00:45:17.88 the more it is also seeming to be pointless." 00:45:17.91\00:45:21.98 In other words, the more I learned 00:45:22.02\00:45:23.35 about the universe, 00:45:23.39\00:45:24.72 the more I realize, I don't know. 00:45:24.75\00:45:27.46 I have more to say, 00:45:27.49\00:45:28.82 but I'll leave that for the closing time. 00:45:28.86\00:45:31.39 I just want to make this point before I jump in here. 00:45:31.43\00:45:33.56 When we know God as the creator and sustainer of all life, 00:45:33.60\00:45:40.00 it will impact the way we understand 00:45:40.04\00:45:43.51 the arts and the sciences. 00:45:43.54\00:45:45.44 And our lesson today is the Lord 00:45:45.47\00:45:48.41 answered Job from Chapter 38. 00:45:48.44\00:45:51.88 Just very quickly, 00:45:51.91\00:45:53.25 Job wanted to verify his innocence. 00:45:53.28\00:45:56.32 So he made some accusations against God, 00:45:56.35\00:45:58.75 he was constantly calling God to court. 00:45:58.79\00:46:01.22 Well, guess what? Chapter 38, God shows up. 00:46:01.26\00:46:05.26 And God is interrogating Job with a series of questions 00:46:05.29\00:46:10.27 that basically is asking Job, 00:46:10.30\00:46:13.00 "Hey, Job, are you eternal, 00:46:13.03\00:46:15.64 great, powerful, wise, or perfect like me?" 00:46:15.67\00:46:19.84 And as God is going through these questions, 00:46:19.87\00:46:23.28 suddenly Job is feeling less and less sure of himself. 00:46:23.31\00:46:28.75 And I think he finally begins to understand God, 00:46:28.78\00:46:31.69 because God is about to be his vindicator. 00:46:31.72\00:46:35.12 But he begins to see the power and majesty of God. 00:46:35.16\00:46:40.66 And I think he just figures he's better off to be quiet 00:46:40.70\00:46:43.37 and trust God. 00:46:43.40\00:46:45.17 That's right. I want to say this. 00:46:45.20\00:46:46.57 God is the author since He is the Creator, 00:46:46.60\00:46:51.27 He is the author of all science. 00:46:51.31\00:46:54.78 And all true science supports biblical teaching. 00:46:54.81\00:46:58.68 Evolution is an atheistic theory. 00:46:58.71\00:47:03.79 Please listen to what I just said. 00:47:03.82\00:47:05.59 Evolution is an atheistic theory, 00:47:05.62\00:47:08.52 there is no true science, 00:47:08.56\00:47:10.89 no adequate evidence to support 00:47:10.93\00:47:13.63 that it is a philosophical commitment 00:47:13.66\00:47:18.20 to naturalism. 00:47:18.23\00:47:21.10 And it's based on the assumption 00:47:21.14\00:47:22.47 that life had no creator. 00:47:22.50\00:47:24.01 I'll tell you, that's interesting. 00:47:24.04\00:47:26.57 When you look at people who are promoting atheism, 00:47:26.61\00:47:31.11 I mean, evolution. 00:47:31.15\00:47:33.68 These are scientists who try to use 00:47:33.72\00:47:35.82 the physical science of materialism alone. 00:47:35.85\00:47:40.02 And they don't have any justification 00:47:40.06\00:47:43.83 for what they're saying. 00:47:43.86\00:47:45.56 But you know, what's interesting 00:47:45.59\00:47:47.00 for most scientists, 00:47:47.03\00:47:49.16 if they reject Darwinism, they will lose their funding. 00:47:49.20\00:47:54.60 So, boy, you were talking about suppressing the truth 00:47:54.64\00:47:57.67 in righteousness. 00:47:57.71\00:47:59.04 A lot of them just zip their lip, 00:47:59.07\00:48:03.85 because they're worried about losing their funding. 00:48:03.88\00:48:07.42 So recent discoveries 00:48:07.45\00:48:08.95 and I'm not going to run through all these explanations, 00:48:08.98\00:48:11.45 but epigenetics, the ENCODE project, 00:48:11.49\00:48:15.39 orphan genes, 00:48:15.42\00:48:16.76 these kind of things fascinate me, 00:48:16.79\00:48:18.79 but they undercut the intellectual feasibility 00:48:18.83\00:48:23.63 of macro evolutionary theory. 00:48:23.67\00:48:27.57 I've read this book that is fascinating. 00:48:27.60\00:48:31.34 This was a scientist named Donald Johnson, 00:48:31.37\00:48:34.01 he has two PhDs, 00:48:34.04\00:48:35.91 one in chemistry and the other 00:48:35.94\00:48:38.75 in computer information sciences. 00:48:38.78\00:48:43.02 Now, even when he became a Christian, 00:48:43.05\00:48:45.59 he still argued in favor of Darwin's theory, 00:48:45.62\00:48:49.96 until He was working on this major project that is, 00:48:49.99\00:48:55.60 in his book Programming of Life. 00:48:55.63\00:48:59.33 And after years of research, you know what he proved? 00:48:59.37\00:49:02.60 He proved that Darwin's theory, 00:49:02.64\00:49:04.27 I mean, to me, it's absolute proof 00:49:04.31\00:49:06.78 that it is impossible. 00:49:06.81\00:49:10.15 And what he did was investigate 00:49:10.18\00:49:13.35 and explain the computer like workings of a cell, 00:49:13.38\00:49:18.85 and he fights from a broad and growing list of scientists 00:49:18.89\00:49:25.16 who are beginning to question evolution, 00:49:25.19\00:49:29.36 and they think that it is totally wrong. 00:49:29.40\00:49:31.83 So here's what he proved. 00:49:31.87\00:49:34.30 "Our bodies are complex, interacting computer systems." 00:49:34.34\00:49:40.28 So life is an intersection 00:49:40.31\00:49:44.38 of not just physical science, 00:49:44.41\00:49:47.35 but information science. 00:49:47.38\00:49:50.25 Each cell, get this, 00:49:50.29\00:49:52.32 each cell of an organism 00:49:52.35\00:49:55.12 has millions of interacting computers. 00:49:55.16\00:50:01.06 Each cell has millions of interacting computers. 00:50:01.10\00:50:06.37 And they read and process complicated digital information 00:50:06.40\00:50:11.04 to communicate and translate 00:50:11.07\00:50:13.64 the information using algorithms. 00:50:13.68\00:50:17.65 I mean, it's beyond all laws of probability 00:50:17.68\00:50:22.75 that such cybernetic complexity could happen randomly. 00:50:22.78\00:50:29.42 It's impossible to believe in evolution. 00:50:29.46\00:50:34.06 Let me tell you, 00:50:34.10\00:50:35.43 man did not climb 00:50:35.46\00:50:37.43 out of some mythical primordial pool. 00:50:37.47\00:50:41.80 We did not go through atheistic evolution 00:50:41.84\00:50:46.17 from a single cell of me but to a reptile to an ape. 00:50:46.21\00:50:51.81 Molecular biologists have proven 00:50:51.85\00:50:54.95 that the complexity 00:50:54.98\00:50:56.82 of a single cell is so vast, 00:50:56.85\00:51:02.19 just think it's got all these little cell 00:51:02.22\00:51:05.19 has millions of computers in it. 00:51:05.23\00:51:08.56 They say it is a mathematical nightmare 00:51:08.60\00:51:11.60 to try to support the accidental origin of life. 00:51:11.63\00:51:15.74 And have you noticed 00:51:15.77\00:51:17.11 how frequently scientists are changing 00:51:17.14\00:51:20.58 the speculative ages of the earth? 00:51:20.61\00:51:23.71 Oh, yeah. I mean, you know what? 00:51:23.75\00:51:25.81 Geologists 00:51:25.85\00:51:27.18 are never going to figure it out. 00:51:27.22\00:51:28.55 You know why? 00:51:28.58\00:51:29.92 Because God created the earth with a parent age. 00:51:29.95\00:51:33.66 He didn't create the acorn, He created the oak tree. 00:51:33.69\00:51:37.99 He didn't create an apple seed, He created the apple tree. 00:51:38.03\00:51:42.13 He didn't create little babies, 00:51:42.16\00:51:44.47 He created mature man and woman. 00:51:44.50\00:51:48.47 So when we look at what the Bible says, 00:51:48.50\00:51:53.71 the sciences change their mind, 00:51:53.74\00:51:56.11 scientists change their mind all the time. 00:51:56.14\00:51:58.61 It's constantly being updated and changed. 00:51:58.65\00:52:01.28 Ancient scientists believed the earth was flat. 00:52:01.32\00:52:03.89 Isaiah 40:22 says, 00:52:03.92\00:52:06.39 "He sits above the circle of the earth." 00:52:06.42\00:52:08.86 And that's chug in the Hebrew, it's a sphere. 00:52:08.89\00:52:13.46 The ancients believed that something supported 00:52:13.50\00:52:16.56 the earth like Atlas. 00:52:16.60\00:52:18.27 Job 26:7 says, 00:52:18.30\00:52:21.04 "He hangs the earth on nothing." 00:52:21.07\00:52:25.47 God in His Word in Job 28:25, 00:52:25.51\00:52:30.51 He explained that air had weight 00:52:30.55\00:52:34.15 long before the scientists discovered it. 00:52:34.18\00:52:36.82 Job 28:25 says, 00:52:36.85\00:52:39.95 "To establish a weight for the wind, " 00:52:39.99\00:52:44.26 and then get this one. 00:52:44.29\00:52:45.63 This is one of my favorites, Danny, 00:52:45.66\00:52:47.16 you're going to love this one. 00:52:47.20\00:52:48.86 Job 38:19 says, 00:52:48.90\00:52:52.30 "Where is the way to the dwelling of light?" 00:52:52.33\00:52:58.24 How except by divine inspiration 00:52:58.27\00:53:02.31 could Job have known 00:53:02.34\00:53:03.68 that light does not dwell in a place but in a way? 00:53:03.71\00:53:08.48 I mean, that's amazing. 00:53:08.52\00:53:09.92 Because modern man has discovered 00:53:09.95\00:53:12.55 that light involves motions, 00:53:12.59\00:53:15.72 wave motion, 00:53:15.76\00:53:17.09 traveling at 185,000 miles a second. 00:53:17.13\00:53:21.76 Light can only dwell in a way. 00:53:21.80\00:53:27.17 Scientists know that the atom should fly apart. 00:53:27.20\00:53:33.88 I mean, I love, you read this, and they're all gone, 00:53:33.91\00:53:36.54 they're scratching their head. 00:53:36.58\00:53:38.25 They're trying to figure out why the atom doesn't fly apart. 00:53:38.28\00:53:43.59 Well, I'll tell you why. 00:53:43.62\00:53:45.25 Colossians 1:17. That's right. 00:53:45.29\00:53:47.76 Says, "Jesus is before all things 00:53:47.79\00:53:50.96 and in Him, all things exist." 00:53:50.99\00:53:55.40 All things cohere, all things hold together. 00:53:55.43\00:54:01.10 The power that holds the atom together 00:54:01.14\00:54:04.64 is our Creator Jesus Himself. 00:54:04.67\00:54:08.71 And Hebrews 1:3, says, 00:54:08.74\00:54:11.51 now I'm going to read this from the Amplified 00:54:11.55\00:54:13.28 because this is what the meaning is. 00:54:13.31\00:54:15.32 Hebrews 1:3, I used to read that. 00:54:15.35\00:54:18.62 And not only read this B-part, 00:54:18.65\00:54:20.69 the A-part is talking about how Jesus is just like God, 00:54:20.72\00:54:25.86 and He's showing us everything 00:54:25.89\00:54:27.63 but then it says this, 00:54:27.66\00:54:29.40 that He is upholding and maintaining 00:54:29.43\00:54:33.84 and guiding and propelling the universe, 00:54:33.87\00:54:37.64 by his mighty Word of power. 00:54:37.67\00:54:40.88 That word that is alive and active and sharper 00:54:40.91\00:54:44.58 than any two-edged sword, 00:54:44.61\00:54:45.95 that word that had the creative power 00:54:45.98\00:54:48.78 when He said let there be and it existed 00:54:48.82\00:54:51.25 and He framed the world by His Word. 00:54:51.29\00:54:55.16 Here's what the quarterly says. 00:54:55.19\00:54:57.56 "Scripture teaches 00:54:57.59\00:54:58.93 that God not only created everything, 00:54:58.96\00:55:01.30 but that He sustains everything in as well. 00:55:01.33\00:55:04.43 And this means 00:55:04.47\00:55:05.80 that any true Christian education 00:55:05.83\00:55:07.84 in science would have to work 00:55:07.87\00:55:10.51 from radically different assumptions 00:55:10.54\00:55:14.24 than what science in general claims. 00:55:14.28\00:55:17.35 If you are a Christian, 00:55:17.38\00:55:19.31 you cannot support the teaching of evolution. 00:55:19.35\00:55:23.49 Amen. It's powerful study, Shelley. 00:55:23.52\00:55:26.29 Thank you so much. 00:55:26.32\00:55:27.66 Shelley, Pastor John, Danny and Pastor Ryan, 00:55:27.69\00:55:29.92 thank you for your study of the Word of God. 00:55:29.96\00:55:31.86 We'll take a few moments 00:55:31.89\00:55:33.23 and share something about your day. 00:55:33.26\00:55:34.60 Amen. 00:55:34.63\00:55:35.96 You know, as I was going through this whole lesson, 00:55:36.00\00:55:37.33 I'm thinking of Romans 12:1-2, 00:55:37.37\00:55:40.10 but I'll specifically read verse 2. 00:55:40.14\00:55:42.10 It says, "And do not be conformed to this world, 00:55:42.14\00:55:43.81 but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, 00:55:43.84\00:55:46.41 that you may prove 00:55:46.44\00:55:47.78 what is that good and acceptable, 00:55:47.81\00:55:49.44 and perfect will of God." 00:55:49.48\00:55:51.48 Amen. 00:55:51.51\00:55:52.85 Well, mine was on Experts in Error 00:55:52.88\00:55:54.98 where we want to make sure 00:55:55.02\00:55:56.35 that we're not experts in error, 00:55:56.38\00:55:57.85 but that we ask the Holy Spirit to give us 00:55:57.89\00:56:01.02 and guide us into all truth. 00:56:01.06\00:56:02.92 You know, as much as the Bible talks 00:56:02.96\00:56:04.39 about a fool, there is hope for a fool. 00:56:04.43\00:56:06.80 Bible says in 1 Corinthians 3:18, 00:56:06.83\00:56:09.40 1 Corinthians 3:18, 00:56:09.43\00:56:13.47 "Let no one deceive himself. 00:56:13.50\00:56:15.07 If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, 00:56:15.10\00:56:19.21 let him become a fool, that he may become wise." 00:56:19.24\00:56:22.71 Amen. Okay. 00:56:22.74\00:56:24.21 I just want to say this. 00:56:24.25\00:56:26.38 God is your creator, He is your sustainer. 00:56:26.41\00:56:29.72 And He loves you so much. 00:56:29.75\00:56:31.52 His Word, get into His Word, 00:56:31.55\00:56:34.49 let the Word do a work in your heart, 00:56:34.52\00:56:37.73 pray it back to Him 00:56:37.76\00:56:39.09 because it will not return void. 00:56:39.13\00:56:40.73 God is watching over His Word to perform it 00:56:40.76\00:56:44.33 and He is the God who gives life to the dead, 00:56:44.37\00:56:47.94 and calls things that are not 00:56:47.97\00:56:49.54 as though they already exist, 00:56:49.57\00:56:51.11 because He has a plan for your life. 00:56:51.14\00:56:53.71 He loves you so much. 00:56:53.74\00:56:55.94 Get in to the Word and come to know Him 00:56:55.98\00:56:59.05 as your creator and sustainer. 00:56:59.08\00:57:01.65 Amen. 00:57:01.68\00:57:03.02 Thank you all so much. 00:57:03.05\00:57:04.39 You know, we don't talk about the lesson necessarily 00:57:04.42\00:57:05.92 before we teach the lesson here. 00:57:05.95\00:57:08.26 And I'm always blessed by what God does 00:57:08.29\00:57:10.69 in and through each one of you. 00:57:10.73\00:57:12.29 This lesson in particular, to me is kind of heavy, 00:57:12.33\00:57:15.66 and as each person was sharing, 00:57:15.70\00:57:17.93 I was reminded of what Jesus said 00:57:17.97\00:57:19.53 in John Chapter 8. 00:57:19.57\00:57:20.90 That's our closing scripture. 00:57:20.94\00:57:22.34 John 8:31. 00:57:22.37\00:57:24.01 Jesus said, "If you abide in My Word, 00:57:24.04\00:57:26.04 you are My disciples indeed. 00:57:26.07\00:57:27.91 And you shall know the truth 00:57:27.94\00:57:29.81 and the truth shall make you free. 00:57:29.84\00:57:33.15 But they answered Him, 00:57:33.18\00:57:34.62 'We are Abraham's descendants 00:57:34.65\00:57:36.38 and have never been in bondage to anyone.'" 00:57:36.42\00:57:39.22 What does that mean? 00:57:39.25\00:57:40.59 When you and I are confronted with the truth, 00:57:40.62\00:57:43.12 we can face the truth and choose to fight it 00:57:43.16\00:57:45.63 or we can choose to surrender to the Savior. 00:57:45.66\00:57:48.93 This might be the first time you have heard 00:57:48.96\00:57:50.77 some of these truths. 00:57:50.80\00:57:52.60 Make a decision. 00:57:52.63\00:57:53.97 Open up your heart to Jesus. 00:57:54.00\00:57:55.64 Make Him Lord of your life 00:57:55.67\00:57:57.01 and accept the truth in His work. 00:57:57.04\00:57:59.74 Join us next week, lesson number 11, 00:57:59.77\00:58:01.74 the Christian and Work. 00:58:01.78\00:58:03.24
