That's right. 00:02:37.35\00:02:39.19 Before we go any further 00:02:39.22\00:02:40.56 and before we open up the Word of God, 00:02:40.59\00:02:41.92 we wanna go to the Lord in prayer. 00:02:41.96\00:02:43.32 And, Yvonne, would you pray for us? 00:02:43.36\00:02:44.76 Surely. 00:02:44.79\00:02:46.13 Father, God, thank You so very much 00:02:46.16\00:02:47.50 for the privilege of opening and studying Your word. 00:02:47.53\00:02:50.17 What a privilege it is. 00:02:50.20\00:02:51.80 We pray for Your presence with us, 00:02:51.83\00:02:53.57 guide us and direct us, 00:02:53.60\00:02:54.94 we pray in the worthy name of Jesus our Savior. 00:02:54.97\00:02:57.41 Amen. Amen. 00:02:57.44\00:02:59.41 I wanna start with a question here today. 00:02:59.44\00:03:01.51 Have you ever been ashamed of something you did? 00:03:01.54\00:03:04.95 Both my hands would go up. 00:03:04.98\00:03:06.55 Have you ever hoped that maybe nobody would find out? 00:03:06.58\00:03:09.98 Have you ever felt guilty? 00:03:10.02\00:03:12.99 All have sinned and all have wanted to hide 00:03:13.02\00:03:17.13 at some point or another, but God wants to restore. 00:03:17.16\00:03:21.30 He wants to forgive. He wants to cleanse. 00:03:21.33\00:03:24.73 I think of Adam and Eve in the garden, 00:03:24.77\00:03:26.94 and how they ran and hid from the God who had made them. 00:03:26.97\00:03:30.91 I think of Jacob, he ran and hid 00:03:30.94\00:03:34.04 from the father he had deceived. 00:03:34.08\00:03:37.11 I think of Jonah. 00:03:37.15\00:03:38.48 He ran and tried to hide 00:03:38.51\00:03:40.55 from the God he claimed to serve. 00:03:40.58\00:03:43.62 I think of Achan. 00:03:43.65\00:03:44.99 He hid the Babylonian garment and the shackles of gold 00:03:45.02\00:03:48.46 and silver thinking that 00:03:48.49\00:03:50.73 his sin was not going to be found out. 00:03:50.76\00:03:53.90 I think of the woman caught in adultery in John Chapter 8, 00:03:53.93\00:03:57.13 cowering at Jesus feet, wanting to hide, 00:03:57.17\00:04:00.94 wanting to disappear 00:04:00.97\00:04:02.44 when her Savior stood ready to forgive her. 00:04:02.47\00:04:05.67 I think of Ananias and Sapphira, 00:04:05.71\00:04:08.11 hiding their covetousness from the apostles 00:04:08.14\00:04:11.31 and that had life-altering results, 00:04:11.35\00:04:13.92 would you say so? 00:04:13.95\00:04:16.48 The more as I look at society today, 00:04:16.52\00:04:20.86 we are fragmented clearly. 00:04:20.89\00:04:22.89 We are separated by class or caste or culture, by race, 00:04:22.92\00:04:28.50 ethnicity, background, position, power, personalities, 00:04:28.53\00:04:32.20 education, intelligence, economic status, 00:04:32.23\00:04:35.57 but we are all united. 00:04:35.60\00:04:37.34 And the one fact that we are all sinners, 00:04:37.37\00:04:40.14 and we all are in need of a Savior. 00:04:40.18\00:04:43.18 Romans 3:23, Paul says, 00:04:43.21\00:04:45.21 "All have sinned 00:04:45.25\00:04:46.58 and fallen short of the glory of God." 00:04:46.61\00:04:49.58 But I'm thankful it doesn't stop there. 00:04:49.62\00:04:51.29 You go over a couple of chapters 00:04:51.32\00:04:52.75 to Romans 6:23, "The wages of sin is death, 00:04:52.79\00:04:55.96 but the gift of God is eternal life 00:04:55.99\00:04:58.99 through Jesus Christ our Lord." 00:04:59.03\00:05:00.86 Amen. 00:05:00.90\00:05:02.23 I'm so grateful, Romans 5:8, 00:05:02.26\00:05:04.27 "God demonstrated His love for us. 00:05:04.30\00:05:07.00 And that while we were still sinners, 00:05:07.04\00:05:09.40 while we were yet even in our sin, 00:05:09.44\00:05:13.07 Christ died for us." 00:05:13.11\00:05:15.71 Our Memory Text is Mark 10:52. 00:05:15.74\00:05:20.08 Mark 10:52, "Then Jesus said to him, 00:05:20.12\00:05:23.25 'Go your way, 00:05:23.28\00:05:24.89 your faith has made you well.' 00:05:24.92\00:05:28.22 And immediately he received his sight 00:05:28.26\00:05:31.03 and followed Jesus on the road." 00:05:31.06\00:05:34.26 On Sunday's lesson, 00:05:34.30\00:05:35.63 we go all the way back to the Garden of Eden. 00:05:35.66\00:05:38.83 Genesis Chapter 3. 00:05:38.87\00:05:40.20 If you wanna open up your Bibles, 00:05:40.24\00:05:41.57 we're going to Genesis Chapter 3. 00:05:41.60\00:05:43.77 Sunday's lesson is entitled "Instead of Hiding." 00:05:43.81\00:05:47.61 Now if you've been following Sabbath School panel, 00:05:47.64\00:05:49.54 Pastor Ryan, for the entire quarter, 00:05:49.58\00:05:51.81 you'll know that we discussed 00:05:51.85\00:05:53.21 this particular Genesis Chapter 3 00:05:53.25\00:05:55.45 in the temptation in the first lesson, 00:05:55.48\00:05:57.62 but we're going to revisit it again 00:05:57.65\00:05:59.39 with a little different look from the lesson here. 00:05:59.42\00:06:02.36 Genesis Chapter 3, you know, I like lists. 00:06:02.39\00:06:06.56 So we're gonna cover four major points, 00:06:06.59\00:06:08.96 temptation, sin, consequences, 00:06:09.00\00:06:13.47 and God's solution. 00:06:13.50\00:06:15.44 So we start with the temptation, 00:06:15.47\00:06:17.34 then we move to sin, the consequences of that sin, 00:06:17.37\00:06:21.14 and then God's solution. 00:06:21.18\00:06:22.91 So we're in Genesis 3:1, 00:06:22.94\00:06:24.61 the first word of my Bible is now. 00:06:24.65\00:06:27.15 "Now the serpent was more cunning 00:06:27.18\00:06:29.58 than any beast of the field." 00:06:29.62\00:06:30.99 When you start something with now, what does it mean? 00:06:31.02\00:06:33.49 So things coming before, 00:06:33.52\00:06:35.26 something happened before there is a connection 00:06:35.29\00:06:38.73 with what happened in Chapter 2. 00:06:38.76\00:06:41.00 It links the story of the creation account 00:06:41.03\00:06:43.93 with this story of the fall. 00:06:43.97\00:06:46.80 There was a perfect creation story, 00:06:46.84\00:06:48.30 Genesis 1 and 2, what do we see? 00:06:48.34\00:06:50.64 God said, "It was very good." 00:06:50.67\00:06:53.21 God said, "It was very good." 00:06:53.24\00:06:55.84 We get to Genesis 3, 00:06:55.88\00:06:57.21 and we expect another perfect happily ever after story. 00:06:57.25\00:07:00.48 And that's not the case. 00:07:00.52\00:07:02.22 "Now the serpent was more cunning 00:07:02.25\00:07:04.49 than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made." 00:07:04.52\00:07:08.42 That word cunning in Hebrew actually 00:07:08.46\00:07:10.33 can be positive or negative. 00:07:10.36\00:07:12.29 And the Book of Proverbs it's translated prudent, 00:07:12.33\00:07:15.50 which would be a good word, but in this case, 00:07:15.53\00:07:18.47 it's translated in the negative sense meaning 00:07:18.50\00:07:21.40 crafty, shrewd, deceptive, 00:07:21.44\00:07:25.47 "The serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field. 00:07:25.51\00:07:28.21 And he said to the woman, 'Has God indeed said, 00:07:28.24\00:07:31.41 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?''" 00:07:31.45\00:07:35.28 Now was that really what God had commanded? 00:07:35.32\00:07:37.92 Absolutely not. 00:07:37.95\00:07:39.29 If you look back at Genesis 2:16-17, 00:07:39.32\00:07:42.46 God actually had said, 00:07:42.49\00:07:44.56 "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat, 00:07:44.59\00:07:47.86 but at the tree of the knowledge 00:07:47.90\00:07:49.23 of good and evil you shall not eat, 00:07:49.26\00:07:50.97 for in the day that you eat of it 00:07:51.00\00:07:52.33 you shall surely die." 00:07:52.37\00:07:53.70 So what Satan through the serpent 00:07:53.74\00:07:55.44 did was took God's command, 00:07:55.47\00:07:57.67 which was a positive, 00:07:57.71\00:07:59.04 you may freely eat of every tree, 00:07:59.07\00:08:00.84 and turned it into a negative, 00:08:00.88\00:08:03.95 you shall not eat of every tree of the garden. 00:08:03.98\00:08:07.78 Satan took the command and turned it into a plural, 00:08:07.82\00:08:11.42 not just one tree they weren't supposed to eat 00:08:11.45\00:08:13.49 of he made it seem like many trees. 00:08:13.52\00:08:16.12 He changed the meaning of God's directive. 00:08:16.16\00:08:18.39 Verse 2, "And the woman said to the serpent, 00:08:18.43\00:08:21.20 'We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden, 00:08:21.23\00:08:23.26 but if the fruit of the tree 00:08:23.30\00:08:24.63 which is in the midst of the garden, 00:08:24.67\00:08:26.74 God has said, 'You should not eat it, 00:08:26.77\00:08:28.30 nor shall you touch it, lest you die.''" 00:08:28.34\00:08:32.07 Eve's very first mistake was what? 00:08:32.11\00:08:33.88 To enter into dialogue with the serpent. 00:08:33.91\00:08:38.21 We take the first step into sin 00:08:38.25\00:08:41.75 when we begin to dally with temptation. 00:08:41.78\00:08:45.82 When we begin to think, "Oh, well, that looks pleasant. 00:08:45.85\00:08:49.82 Oh, I might be able to get away with that. 00:08:49.86\00:08:52.96 Oh, let me think about that for a while 00:08:52.99\00:08:55.10 because I want to dwell on that thought, 00:08:55.13\00:08:57.57 that's not godly." 00:08:57.60\00:08:59.80 We dally in sin in temptation, 00:08:59.83\00:09:04.04 and then we continue in sin, 00:09:04.07\00:09:06.41 by misunderstanding the character of God. 00:09:06.44\00:09:09.84 That's what we see in Genesis Chapter 3, 00:09:09.88\00:09:12.65 Eve actually magnified and change God's command 00:09:12.68\00:09:15.68 she added to it, she made it more restrictive 00:09:15.72\00:09:18.32 than God even had made it. 00:09:18.35\00:09:19.69 God never said anything about touching the tree 00:09:19.72\00:09:21.49 yet she added to it. 00:09:21.52\00:09:24.26 Temptation and sin come from a misunderstanding 00:09:24.29\00:09:27.90 of the character of God. 00:09:27.93\00:09:30.00 You know, saints done a great job of attributing 00:09:30.03\00:09:32.70 his own characteristics to God. 00:09:32.73\00:09:35.30 So when we look at God, 00:09:35.34\00:09:36.67 we think, "Oh, God's not loving. 00:09:36.71\00:09:38.34 God is unjust." No, Satan is unjust. 00:09:38.37\00:09:40.64 "Oh, God is not merciful." 00:09:40.68\00:09:42.74 Satan twists the character of God. 00:09:42.78\00:09:46.41 Ryan did a beautiful job of this in the first lesson, 00:09:46.45\00:09:50.32 the three legs I call it of temptation. 00:09:50.35\00:09:52.89 We're looking at them briefly. 00:09:52.92\00:09:55.02 First he said God is restrictive. 00:09:55.06\00:09:57.83 Second leg, God is a liar. 00:09:57.86\00:10:00.46 And the third leg, God is selfish 00:10:00.50\00:10:03.40 and only looking out for himself. 00:10:03.43\00:10:05.67 It's all centered on that misrepresentation 00:10:05.70\00:10:08.97 of the character of God. 00:10:09.00\00:10:11.27 God is restrictive. 00:10:11.31\00:10:12.64 We're in Genesis 3:1, the second half of the verse, 00:10:12.67\00:10:15.64 "The serpent said to the woman, 'Has got indeed said, 00:10:15.68\00:10:18.01 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?''" 00:10:18.05\00:10:20.72 In other words, he's saying, 00:10:20.75\00:10:22.08 God doesn't care about my happiness. 00:10:22.12\00:10:23.69 He only cares about His rules. 00:10:23.72\00:10:25.75 God is keeping things from you that might you might enjoy. 00:10:25.79\00:10:29.96 God is restrictive. 00:10:29.99\00:10:31.83 We see God is a liar in verse 4, 00:10:31.86\00:10:34.36 "Then the serpent said to the woman, 00:10:34.40\00:10:35.80 'You shall not surely die.'" 00:10:35.83\00:10:38.83 What is he saying? 00:10:38.87\00:10:40.20 God doesn't really mean what he says. 00:10:40.24\00:10:41.84 His commandments aren't really the truth. 00:10:41.87\00:10:44.01 God is dishonest or untrustworthy. 00:10:44.04\00:10:47.64 Like number 3, we see in verse 5, 00:10:47.68\00:10:49.91 "For God knows that in the day you eat of it 00:10:49.94\00:10:51.81 your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, 00:10:51.85\00:10:55.25 knowing good and evil." 00:10:55.28\00:10:57.09 What is he saying? 00:10:57.12\00:10:58.45 God doesn't want you to advance. 00:10:58.49\00:11:00.06 God doesn't want you to become better. 00:11:00.09\00:11:01.92 He doesn't want you to experience other things. 00:11:01.96\00:11:04.13 He's selfish and only looking out for Himself. 00:11:04.16\00:11:07.46 Temptation and sin come 00:11:07.50\00:11:09.63 from a misunderstanding of the character of God. 00:11:09.66\00:11:13.13 Now that is temptation. We know temptation is not sin. 00:11:13.17\00:11:16.07 Sin occurred in the next verse, verse 6, 00:11:16.10\00:11:18.01 when she actually reached out, and what happened? 00:11:18.04\00:11:21.44 Took the fruit and ate. 00:11:21.48\00:11:23.21 Verse 6, "When the woman saw that 00:11:23.24\00:11:24.65 the tree was good for food, 00:11:24.68\00:11:26.11 that it was pleasant to the eyes, 00:11:26.15\00:11:27.58 and a tree desirable to make one wise, 00:11:27.62\00:11:30.12 she took of the fruit and ate. 00:11:30.15\00:11:32.89 She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate." 00:11:32.92\00:11:36.29 Now what's interesting, it says when the woman saw, 00:11:36.32\00:11:39.23 it reminds me of Genesis 1, 00:11:39.26\00:11:41.26 when Gods saw what he had made and said it was very good. 00:11:41.30\00:11:46.57 This suggests that Eve had usurped 00:11:46.60\00:11:49.60 the creator's role in determining 00:11:49.64\00:11:52.01 what was good. 00:11:52.04\00:11:53.38 Now she's the judge of what was good. 00:11:53.41\00:11:55.64 When she saw that the tree was good for food, 00:11:55.68\00:11:58.51 pleasant to the eyes, and desirable, 00:11:58.55\00:12:00.12 the word desirable is the same word 00:12:00.15\00:12:01.95 as covetousness in the Ten Commandments. 00:12:01.98\00:12:05.65 She coveted the fruit there, she took and eat. 00:12:05.69\00:12:09.49 We know that Eve was clearly deceived 00:12:09.52\00:12:11.59 by the serpent. 00:12:11.63\00:12:12.96 Adam was not so deceived. 00:12:12.99\00:12:14.76 He knowingly took and ate of the fruit. 00:12:14.80\00:12:19.37 And there were consequences. 00:12:19.40\00:12:21.07 Sin brings shame, fear, and guilt. 00:12:21.10\00:12:25.81 We're in next verse, verse 7, 00:12:25.84\00:12:27.64 "The eyes of both of them were opened, 00:12:27.68\00:12:29.14 and they realized they were naked. 00:12:29.18\00:12:30.85 And they sewed fig leaves together 00:12:30.88\00:12:32.41 and covered themselves. 00:12:32.45\00:12:34.12 They heard the sound of the Lord God 00:12:34.15\00:12:35.72 walking in the garden in the cool of the day," 00:12:35.75\00:12:37.69 and what did they do? 00:12:37.72\00:12:39.05 They didn't run to meet Him. 00:12:39.09\00:12:40.42 They ran and hid themselves. Why? 00:12:40.46\00:12:43.79 Because they were afraid 00:12:43.83\00:12:45.16 because the consequences of sin is fear, 00:12:45.19\00:12:48.66 and guilt, and separation from God, 00:12:48.70\00:12:51.80 but I'm so grateful 00:12:51.83\00:12:53.17 that the story doesn't end there. 00:12:53.20\00:12:54.54 That we don't end there that God has a solution. 00:12:54.57\00:12:58.01 And that's the plan of salvation. 00:12:58.04\00:12:59.54 God had in mind from even before 00:12:59.57\00:13:02.04 the world was created this plan of salvation. 00:13:02.08\00:13:06.28 Jesus came, we talked about it last lesson, 00:13:06.31\00:13:08.95 Jesus came to reconcile us back to the Father, 00:13:08.98\00:13:13.46 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, "All things of God, 00:13:13.49\00:13:17.56 who has reconciled us 00:13:17.59\00:13:19.16 to Himself through Jesus Christ," 00:13:19.19\00:13:21.86 the blood of Jesus reconciles us back to the Father, 00:13:21.90\00:13:25.47 "and it's given to you and I 00:13:25.50\00:13:26.84 this ministry of reconciliation." 00:13:26.87\00:13:30.17 One more verse, Romans 5, 00:13:30.21\00:13:32.61 we won't read the whole passage. 00:13:32.64\00:13:34.04 You can read it later, Romans 5:10-19. 00:13:34.08\00:13:37.25 Well, let's read verses 18 and 19. 00:13:37.28\00:13:39.81 "Therefore, as through one man's offense," 00:13:39.85\00:13:41.75 that's Adam's sin, "judgment came to all men, 00:13:41.78\00:13:45.19 resulting in condemnation," that's the consequence of sin, 00:13:45.22\00:13:49.12 "even so through one Man's righteous act," 00:13:49.16\00:13:51.53 that's the death of Jesus, "the free gift 00:13:51.56\00:13:54.16 came to all men resulting in justification of life. 00:13:54.20\00:13:57.63 For as by one man's disobedience 00:13:57.67\00:13:59.77 many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience, 00:13:59.80\00:14:04.07 many will be made righteous." 00:14:04.11\00:14:06.81 Adam sinned and we were separated 00:14:06.84\00:14:08.44 from God seemingly forever, but Jesus came 00:14:08.48\00:14:11.51 that we would be reconciled back to the Father. 00:14:11.55\00:14:14.22 Ryan. Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:14:14.25\00:14:16.22 That sets up perfectly for Monday's lesson, 00:14:16.25\00:14:18.35 which is entitled, "On the Run." 00:14:18.39\00:14:20.76 And much like Adam and Eve, I can throw Jonah in there, 00:14:20.79\00:14:24.63 I can even throw the disciples in there, 00:14:24.66\00:14:26.56 the night that Jesus was arrested, 00:14:26.59\00:14:28.26 they all scattered, 00:14:28.30\00:14:29.63 and they were on the run away from God, 00:14:29.66\00:14:32.73 you know, many of us, we're on the run. 00:14:32.77\00:14:35.97 We're running away from God rather than running to God, 00:14:36.00\00:14:38.74 but God is still a merciful God. 00:14:38.77\00:14:40.74 And on Monday's lesson entitled, On the Run, 00:14:40.78\00:14:43.45 we're gonna see that a particular story in Scripture 00:14:43.48\00:14:47.85 is used to illustrate this point. 00:14:47.88\00:14:50.55 And I think there's something 00:14:50.59\00:14:51.92 that we can be educated on this issue. 00:14:51.95\00:14:54.06 So let's go to Genesis 28:10-17. 00:14:54.09\00:14:57.63 Genesis Chapter 28, 00:14:57.66\00:14:59.33 we're gonna begin reading in verse 10. 00:14:59.36\00:15:01.73 This is a story that many of us have heard many times. 00:15:01.76\00:15:04.77 It's one of those that many, many sermons have been 00:15:04.80\00:15:07.14 written about, but there's always something 00:15:07.17\00:15:09.40 that I believe we can glean from the story. 00:15:09.44\00:15:12.84 Verse 10, again, Genesis 28, beginning with verse 10. 00:15:12.87\00:15:16.14 It says, "Now Jacob went out from Beersheba 00:15:16.18\00:15:19.25 and went towards Haran. 00:15:19.28\00:15:21.62 Now he came to a certain place and stayed there all night 00:15:21.65\00:15:26.19 because the sun had set." 00:15:26.22\00:15:28.42 So I just wanna pause there for a moment, 00:15:28.46\00:15:30.06 it just kind of set the record 00:15:30.09\00:15:31.69 as to where we are in this story 00:15:31.73\00:15:34.06 because obviously, up to this point, 00:15:34.10\00:15:36.20 Jacob has already committed his sin. 00:15:36.23\00:15:39.67 He has deceived his father and his family, trying to... 00:15:39.70\00:15:44.61 And we're gonna say, 00:15:44.64\00:15:45.97 trying to climb up a different ladder, 00:15:46.01\00:15:48.11 we're gonna say, to get success, 00:15:48.14\00:15:50.88 but now he is on the run. 00:15:50.91\00:15:52.25 He's on his way to Uncle Laban's place, 00:15:52.28\00:15:54.45 but he's isolated, he's alone, he's scared, he's fearful. 00:15:54.48\00:15:58.82 And so now we see her in verse 11. 00:15:58.85\00:16:00.52 It says, "He came out to a certain place 00:16:00.56\00:16:02.92 and stayed there all night," he's on his way there, 00:16:02.96\00:16:05.33 "because the sun had set. 00:16:05.36\00:16:07.20 And he took one of the stones of that place 00:16:07.23\00:16:11.07 and put it at his head, 00:16:11.10\00:16:13.00 and he lay down in that place to sleep." 00:16:13.03\00:16:16.24 That must have been a uncomfortable sleeping night, 00:16:16.27\00:16:20.78 laying your head up on a rock, but we're gonna see 00:16:20.81\00:16:23.14 there's a powerful lesson in that. 00:16:23.18\00:16:24.55 It says, "Then he dreamed," notice verse 12 here, 00:16:24.58\00:16:26.58 "Then he dreamed, behold, 00:16:26.61\00:16:27.95 a ladder was set up on the earth, 00:16:27.98\00:16:30.75 and its top reached to the heaven, 00:16:30.79\00:16:32.19 and there was angels of God 00:16:32.22\00:16:34.09 that were ascending and descending on it." 00:16:34.12\00:16:37.03 Verse 13, "And behold, 00:16:37.06\00:16:38.93 the Lord stood above it and said, 00:16:38.96\00:16:41.26 'I am the Lord God of Abraham your father 00:16:41.30\00:16:43.77 and the God of Isaac, the land on which you lie, 00:16:43.80\00:16:48.04 I will give you and your descendants. 00:16:48.07\00:16:51.04 Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth, 00:16:51.07\00:16:54.04 you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, 00:16:54.08\00:16:57.28 to the north and the south, 00:16:57.31\00:16:58.91 and in you and in your seed 00:16:58.95\00:17:00.95 all the families of the earth shall be blessed.'" 00:17:00.98\00:17:04.79 Verse 15, "'Behold, I am with you, 00:17:04.82\00:17:07.39 and will keep you wherever you go,' he says, 00:17:07.42\00:17:10.36 'and will bring you back to this land, 00:17:10.39\00:17:12.06 for I will not leave you until I have done 00:17:12.09\00:17:14.90 what I have spoken to you.' 00:17:14.93\00:17:16.67 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, 00:17:16.70\00:17:18.57 'Surely the Lord is in this place, 00:17:18.60\00:17:22.10 and I did not know it.' 00:17:22.14\00:17:24.87 And he was afraid and said, 'How awesome is this place! 00:17:24.91\00:17:28.84 This is none other than the house of God, 00:17:28.88\00:17:32.41 and this is the gate of heaven!'" 00:17:32.45\00:17:36.02 Now I know it's a lengthy passage, 00:17:36.05\00:17:38.12 but as I'm reading through that, 00:17:38.15\00:17:39.85 I took a few notes on this. 00:17:39.89\00:17:41.22 First of all, notice God's mercy 00:17:41.26\00:17:43.46 and patience for this brother. 00:17:43.49\00:17:46.19 This dude is a liar and a deceiver, right? 00:17:46.23\00:17:49.23 Most of us would already cast judgment, 00:17:49.26\00:17:50.97 say he don't deserve anything good, 00:17:51.00\00:17:52.63 but it seems like coming out 00:17:52.67\00:17:54.20 of this deceptive lying situation, 00:17:54.24\00:17:56.60 you would think God would say, "Hey, oh, well, 00:17:56.64\00:17:58.34 you're on the run, you need to make up, 00:17:58.37\00:18:01.01 you need to be good for what you've just done, 00:18:01.04\00:18:02.91 you need to pay for what you've done." 00:18:02.94\00:18:04.41 That's how a lot of people view God, 00:18:04.45\00:18:05.81 but out the front here we see that 00:18:05.85\00:18:08.28 God is a merciful God, he's a patient God. 00:18:08.32\00:18:11.05 You see, God knows that he can still transform 00:18:11.09\00:18:14.32 and use this man, 00:18:14.36\00:18:15.69 even in the problems in the sense 00:18:15.72\00:18:17.39 that he has committed he knows the heart, 00:18:17.43\00:18:18.86 I think of the disciples, 00:18:18.89\00:18:20.23 the disciples were not even converted 00:18:20.26\00:18:21.96 the entire three years that they were with Jesus, 00:18:22.00\00:18:24.27 but God still had patience. 00:18:24.30\00:18:25.63 Jesus still had patience 00:18:25.67\00:18:27.44 with these men who were sinners. 00:18:27.47\00:18:29.74 They were selfish, selfish thoughts, 00:18:29.77\00:18:32.07 and always presenting themselves 00:18:32.11\00:18:33.44 in a very haughty, proudful way, 00:18:33.48\00:18:35.51 but God has patience for us. 00:18:35.54\00:18:37.08 Notice, you know, 00:18:37.11\00:18:38.45 Jacob has messed up at this point, 00:18:38.48\00:18:40.72 feeling all alone and completely isolated, 00:18:40.75\00:18:43.49 but God still shows up to educate this young man. 00:18:43.52\00:18:46.35 He's like, "Man, 00:18:46.39\00:18:47.72 I'm not through with you, brother." 00:18:47.76\00:18:49.09 I've got a plan for you. Listen up. 00:18:49.12\00:18:51.23 See all this land that you're there, 00:18:51.26\00:18:52.73 right where you are. 00:18:52.76\00:18:54.10 I'm gonna give it to you. 00:18:54.13\00:18:55.46 As far as your eye can see, you know, 00:18:55.50\00:18:56.83 I'm going to honor that promise. 00:18:56.87\00:18:59.17 I'm gonna complete that promise, 00:18:59.20\00:19:01.14 and then notice that it says, 00:19:01.17\00:19:02.57 "That Jacob leaned his head 00:19:02.60\00:19:05.27 on a rock to rest." 00:19:05.31\00:19:09.88 Don't miss that. That's good. 00:19:09.91\00:19:11.61 He leaned his head on a rock. 00:19:11.65\00:19:15.45 Okay, don't miss this, my friends, 00:19:15.48\00:19:17.19 Matthew 21:42 and 44. 00:19:17.22\00:19:19.32 I got to make this point 00:19:19.35\00:19:20.69 because many of us are on the run 00:19:20.72\00:19:22.66 away from Christ in the wrong direction 00:19:22.69\00:19:25.03 when really we just need to be leaning on Jesus. 00:19:25.06\00:19:26.90 Come on. Come on. 00:19:26.93\00:19:28.33 "Lean on me." Come on. 00:19:28.36\00:19:30.00 Come on "When you're not strong, 00:19:30.03\00:19:33.57 I'll be your friend. 00:19:33.60\00:19:35.20 I'll help you carry on lean on me." 00:19:35.24\00:19:37.87 We know that song, right? 00:19:37.91\00:19:39.24 Notice what Jesus says here, Matthew 21:42 and 44. 00:19:39.27\00:19:42.28 Jesus said to the Pharisees, he said, 00:19:42.31\00:19:43.95 "Have you never read in the Scriptures, 00:19:43.98\00:19:45.41 'The stone which the builders rejected 00:19:45.45\00:19:47.45 has become the chief cornerstone." 00:19:47.48\00:19:49.68 I just got to make this point, powerful point here. 00:19:49.72\00:19:52.22 "This was the Lord's doing 00:19:52.25\00:19:53.62 and it is marvelous in our eyes." 00:19:53.66\00:19:56.36 And notice what verse 44 says, 00:19:56.39\00:19:58.16 speaking of that stone Jesus referring to himself 00:19:58.19\00:20:01.30 as the stone he says, 00:20:01.33\00:20:02.66 "And whoever falls on this stone will be broken, 00:20:02.70\00:20:06.77 but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder." 00:20:06.80\00:20:10.41 Got to make this point, okay, lean on the rock. 00:20:10.44\00:20:13.54 Rest your head, Jesus said, "Oh, 00:20:13.58\00:20:16.18 come to Me all you who labor 00:20:16.21\00:20:18.31 and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." 00:20:18.35\00:20:20.55 I think there's a spiritual point here, 00:20:20.58\00:20:22.25 this great promise, 00:20:22.28\00:20:23.79 this great transition in Jacob's situation cane 00:20:23.82\00:20:28.06 because he leaned his head upon a rock to take a rest. 00:20:28.09\00:20:31.69 Okay? So don't miss that point. 00:20:31.73\00:20:33.40 Many of us are running away from Jesus, 00:20:33.43\00:20:35.16 when we need to turn around 00:20:35.20\00:20:36.53 and go back in the direction of Jesus 00:20:36.56\00:20:38.07 and we need to lean on the rock, 00:20:38.10\00:20:39.60 but many of us are gonna run away from Him, 00:20:39.63\00:20:41.44 we're on the run, we're gonna remain on the run 00:20:41.47\00:20:43.47 and the rock's gonna come and fall on us. 00:20:43.51\00:20:45.64 And that's something 00:20:45.67\00:20:47.01 we need to take in consideration 00:20:47.04\00:20:48.38 when you lean on Jesus the rock, 00:20:48.41\00:20:51.08 amazing things happen. 00:20:51.11\00:20:52.78 And that's exactly what we see this great vision 00:20:52.81\00:20:55.38 that he has of the ladder, 00:20:55.42\00:20:56.99 we know that this ladder represents Jesus Himself. 00:20:57.02\00:20:59.52 In fact, we're quoting Acts of the Apostles. 00:20:59.55\00:21:02.26 The lesson brings out that Ellen White wrote this 00:21:02.29\00:21:04.89 of how Paul even Paul himself much later, 00:21:04.93\00:21:07.76 referring to Acts of the Apostles, page 512. 00:21:07.80\00:21:10.53 This is a quote from there it says, 00:21:10.57\00:21:11.93 "Behold the ladder of Jacob's vision, 00:21:11.97\00:21:14.30 representing Christ, 00:21:14.34\00:21:15.94 who has connected earth with heaven, 00:21:15.97\00:21:18.94 and finite man with the infinite God. 00:21:18.97\00:21:22.11 His faith is strengthened as he calls to mind 00:21:22.14\00:21:25.61 how patriarchs and prophets have relied 00:21:25.65\00:21:28.22 upon the One who is his support and consolation 00:21:28.25\00:21:32.79 and for whom He is giving His life." 00:21:32.82\00:21:36.66 That's powerful. 00:21:36.69\00:21:38.03 We see Jacob was trying to climb the ladder of success 00:21:38.06\00:21:41.26 by deceiving his own family to get there. 00:21:41.30\00:21:43.77 He was just climbing the wrong ladder. 00:21:43.80\00:21:47.27 When we remove Christ from the equation, my friends, 00:21:47.30\00:21:49.90 there can be no true success. 00:21:49.94\00:21:51.47 You know, and we think of this in the world today, 00:21:51.51\00:21:53.07 we think of like celebrities, you know, 00:21:53.11\00:21:54.81 the rich and they're miserable. 00:21:54.84\00:21:56.38 We think that that's true success. 00:21:56.41\00:21:58.18 They're climbing the wrong ladder of success, 00:21:58.21\00:22:00.42 you know, wealthy business leaders 00:22:00.45\00:22:02.58 that are rich, but they're empty. 00:22:02.62\00:22:04.39 Money made by them the world, but they lose out on their soul 00:22:04.42\00:22:07.06 and they lose their souls 00:22:07.09\00:22:08.42 in the process just to gain the world 00:22:08.46\00:22:10.19 they lose out on their salvation. 00:22:10.23\00:22:11.79 People today chasing careers. This is a major point. 00:22:11.83\00:22:14.40 I wish I had more time to really expound on this, 00:22:14.43\00:22:16.43 but we live in a world today 00:22:16.46\00:22:17.80 where people are chasing careers 00:22:17.83\00:22:19.17 because they're trying to climb the ladder of success. 00:22:19.20\00:22:23.00 Spending precious time, money, and talents to impress men 00:22:23.04\00:22:26.61 become something in the world, 00:22:26.64\00:22:28.24 and end up losing out on the eternal life. 00:22:28.28\00:22:30.01 I'm not saying that having a career is a bad thing. 00:22:30.05\00:22:32.38 All of us need to be successful inasmuch as we can, 00:22:32.41\00:22:35.62 but not lose out on our salvation in the process 00:22:35.65\00:22:38.19 because we're given too much of our time, 00:22:38.22\00:22:40.06 our efforts, and our resources to the world 00:22:40.09\00:22:42.29 to become something for the world and for man 00:22:42.32\00:22:44.29 but we lose out on Jesus Christ. 00:22:44.33\00:22:45.83 And in relation to our education topic, 00:22:45.86\00:22:48.00 we have fathers and mothers on this same note, 00:22:48.03\00:22:50.53 who instead of spending more time 00:22:50.57\00:22:52.00 educating and nurturing their children 00:22:52.03\00:22:53.60 in the way of the Lord. 00:22:53.64\00:22:55.37 We dump our kids off on the world, 00:22:55.40\00:22:57.74 to be raised by the world, to be educated by men, 00:22:57.77\00:23:00.68 to be educated by systems and things... 00:23:00.71\00:23:02.78 And I'm not even gonna go into the fact, 00:23:02.81\00:23:04.15 I recognize that 00:23:04.18\00:23:05.51 there's certain situations that that, 00:23:05.55\00:23:07.82 you know, you can't avoid, you know, 00:23:07.85\00:23:09.18 we have to put our kids here or there, 00:23:09.22\00:23:11.05 but at the end of the day, we have become so, so, 00:23:11.09\00:23:14.46 so drowned and just wrapped up in this career mindedness. 00:23:14.49\00:23:18.89 This trying to climb the ladder of success to become someone, 00:23:18.93\00:23:23.00 chasing a career making more and more and more money 00:23:23.03\00:23:25.83 because we're never ever satisfied. 00:23:25.87\00:23:27.94 And this is what ultimately led Jacob 00:23:27.97\00:23:30.67 for a time in isolation. 00:23:30.71\00:23:32.41 He was willing to deceive to get what he wanted, 00:23:32.44\00:23:34.51 but Jacob was climbing the wrong ladder. 00:23:34.54\00:23:38.58 All to climb the ladder of success 00:23:38.61\00:23:40.88 and achieve a successful career and notification of the world. 00:23:40.92\00:23:44.19 My advice would be just to get a different ladder. 00:23:44.22\00:23:47.16 Go to Jesus Christ, the true ladder, 00:23:47.19\00:23:49.52 like the prodigal son, many are on the run. 00:23:49.56\00:23:53.40 We just need to stop and turn around 00:23:53.43\00:23:56.30 and see Jesus is not too far behind us 00:23:56.33\00:23:58.47 because He's running at us. 00:23:58.50\00:23:59.83 He's chasing us because He wants to save us. 00:23:59.87\00:24:03.30 Jesus is that ladder, my friends, Jesus is that rock. 00:24:03.34\00:24:07.64 Lean on Jesus now, that's the message. 00:24:07.68\00:24:10.35 Lean on Jesus now 00:24:10.38\00:24:12.31 so that we can be truly successful 00:24:12.35\00:24:14.88 and be saved and redeemed in the end. 00:24:14.92\00:24:16.79 Amen. Thank you so much, Ryan. 00:24:16.82\00:24:18.92 We've had church all ready, there's more to come. 00:24:18.95\00:24:21.92 We're gonna take a short break. It's just so exciting. 00:25:09.74\00:25:12.27 When you hear about 00:25:12.31\00:25:14.08 how God just has intervened and the Rock, tsur, 00:25:14.11\00:25:17.71 in Hebrew, the rock, 00:25:17.75\00:25:19.41 He is the rock of our salvation. 00:25:19.45\00:25:21.08 So that's so powerful. 00:25:21.12\00:25:23.12 Anyway, I have Tuesday's lesson, 00:25:23.15\00:25:25.89 "Rabbi Jesus." 00:25:25.92\00:25:27.86 And the word Rabbi in Hebrew means my teacher or my master. 00:25:27.89\00:25:32.76 And in Judaism, 00:25:32.79\00:25:34.13 it was a person that was qualified 00:25:34.16\00:25:35.70 by academic studies 00:25:35.73\00:25:37.10 of the Hebrew Bible and the Talmud, 00:25:37.13\00:25:39.20 to act as a spiritual leader and religious teacher 00:25:39.23\00:25:42.50 of a Jewish community or congregation. 00:25:42.54\00:25:45.14 So of course, Jesus was qualified, 00:25:45.17\00:25:47.88 more than qualified to teach. 00:25:47.91\00:25:50.11 And so our Sabbath School lesson 00:25:50.15\00:25:53.42 refers to John 1:1 as... 00:25:53.45\00:25:56.18 Well, John 1:1-14, 00:25:56.22\00:25:58.35 but I just kind of wanna break down John 1:1 00:25:58.39\00:26:01.89 because it's really, really powerful. 00:26:01.92\00:26:04.16 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, 00:26:04.19\00:26:10.20 and the Word was God." 00:26:10.23\00:26:11.63 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, 00:26:11.67\00:26:14.60 and the Word was God." 00:26:14.64\00:26:16.91 In the beginning, 00:26:16.94\00:26:18.27 the word beginning that 00:26:18.31\00:26:19.64 John used to in the Greek was Archee, 00:26:19.67\00:26:24.41 A-R-C-H-E-E. 00:26:24.45\00:26:26.41 And it's a word that reflects that Jesus Christ 00:26:26.45\00:26:29.28 was the cause of the beginning, not the first fruit, 00:26:29.32\00:26:33.76 but He was the cause of the beginning. 00:26:33.79\00:26:37.43 And so it reflects that he was not the result of it, 00:26:37.46\00:26:43.16 in the beginning was the word 00:26:43.20\00:26:46.74 and so it really correctly translated should be, 00:26:46.77\00:26:50.27 before there was a beginning, 00:26:50.31\00:26:53.07 the Word had been, before there was a beginning... 00:26:53.11\00:26:58.41 That is so rich. 00:26:58.45\00:26:59.78 Is that rich? Hallelujah. 00:26:59.81\00:27:02.28 That is so rich. 00:27:02.32\00:27:03.65 Before there was even a beginning. 00:27:03.69\00:27:05.45 So it reflects the eternity of Jesus Christ, 00:27:05.49\00:27:09.86 the Pre-Incarnate Jesus. 00:27:09.89\00:27:12.69 The was in that phrase is EEN, 00:27:12.73\00:27:16.46 it's a verb that's in the derivative 00:27:16.50\00:27:18.47 in perfect tense. 00:27:18.50\00:27:19.83 EEN speaks of a time before the beginning of things. 00:27:19.87\00:27:23.87 It has in it the concept of eternity, no beginning, 00:27:23.91\00:27:29.01 no ending, just eternity. 00:27:29.04\00:27:32.78 The word logos, logos is a very powerful word 00:27:32.81\00:27:37.29 because it has two meanings. 00:27:37.32\00:27:41.32 It means speech, primarily speech 00:27:41.36\00:27:44.99 that is uttered by mouth, so it's different from -lalia, 00:27:45.03\00:27:47.83 like glossolalia 00:27:47.86\00:27:49.20 or if an animal utters a sound, no, 00:27:49.23\00:27:53.40 this speech is speech 00:27:53.44\00:27:54.90 that is backed up with thought and reason. 00:27:54.94\00:27:58.07 So logos is the word from which we get logic and logical. 00:27:58.11\00:28:02.78 And so speech is the first meaning 00:28:02.81\00:28:05.31 the second meaning is reason and intelligence. 00:28:05.35\00:28:08.12 And John was conveying the idea 00:28:08.15\00:28:10.22 that Jesus Christ was the speech of God. 00:28:10.25\00:28:13.72 And in that speech, 00:28:13.76\00:28:15.32 there's reason and intelligence. 00:28:15.36\00:28:18.46 Logos, again, reflects the idea 00:28:18.49\00:28:22.93 of intelligence personified, 00:28:22.96\00:28:25.87 there's a quote here that 00:28:25.90\00:28:27.24 I'd like to share with you that I got from this book 00:28:27.27\00:28:29.14 that is just really powerful, it's called, 00:28:29.17\00:28:31.24 Was Christ God by a guy 00:28:31.27\00:28:33.98 whose last name was the Zodhiates, Greek guy. 00:28:34.01\00:28:36.81 And he said, "Jesus Christ was not merely a logos, 00:28:36.85\00:28:41.98 but the logos. 00:28:42.02\00:28:43.79 He was the intelligence 00:28:43.82\00:28:45.45 behind everything that was created, 00:28:45.49\00:28:47.59 He is the person responsible for the creation of the world. 00:28:47.62\00:28:50.96 That is why the definite article, 00:28:50.99\00:28:53.76 the definite article, 00:28:53.80\00:28:56.46 is used before the word logos, 00:28:56.50\00:28:59.03 He's the mastermind of all creation, 00:28:59.07\00:29:01.30 so to speak, let us never make the mistake 00:29:01.34\00:29:03.84 of classifying Jesus Christ as one of many intelligences, 00:29:03.87\00:29:08.58 or as one of many spirits. 00:29:08.61\00:29:10.95 He is the intelligence, the reason, the spirit, 00:29:10.98\00:29:14.92 above beyond and responsible for all creation, 00:29:14.95\00:29:18.85 He is the logos, there can be no one like him, 00:29:18.89\00:29:23.12 He is absolutely unique." 00:29:23.16\00:29:27.30 He is the intelligence. 00:29:27.33\00:29:29.46 You know, a lot of times people are trying to say, 00:29:29.50\00:29:31.23 "Oh, He was a God." 00:29:31.27\00:29:33.30 In fact, there's one denomination 00:29:33.34\00:29:35.30 that says that, 00:29:35.34\00:29:36.67 you know, in the beginning was the Word 00:29:36.71\00:29:38.17 and the Word was with God and the Word was a God. 00:29:38.21\00:29:41.51 It uses in an indefinite article, 00:29:41.54\00:29:43.45 no, the definite article whole logos is there. 00:29:43.48\00:29:47.42 He was the God. 00:29:47.45\00:29:49.78 Give me a shout up in here He is God. 00:29:49.82\00:29:53.09 So what does John 1:1-14 00:29:53.12\00:29:57.16 tell us about Jesus as a teacher. 00:29:57.19\00:29:58.79 Number one, Jesus is eternal. 00:29:58.83\00:30:01.26 He had a pre-incarnate existence 00:30:01.30\00:30:03.16 and is the source of creation. 00:30:03.20\00:30:05.03 Number two, 00:30:05.07\00:30:06.40 Jesus is the revelation of God to man. 00:30:06.43\00:30:09.47 Number three, 00:30:09.50\00:30:10.84 Jesus is intelligence personified. 00:30:10.87\00:30:14.38 He's the intelligence 00:30:14.41\00:30:15.74 behind everything that's been created. 00:30:15.78\00:30:18.58 Number four, Jesus became flesh and lived among us. 00:30:18.61\00:30:22.68 As humans, as a human being He lived among us. 00:30:22.72\00:30:26.52 And, you know, when we talk about him 00:30:26.55\00:30:28.72 being God's speech, 00:30:28.76\00:30:31.23 he brought the thoughts of God to man, 00:30:31.26\00:30:34.20 and talk to us in our language. 00:30:34.23\00:30:37.73 That's who Jesus is. 00:30:37.77\00:30:39.63 He talked to us, in our language, 00:30:39.67\00:30:41.77 the ultimate teacher, the ultimate communicator. 00:30:41.80\00:30:46.51 Why is this relevant to our lesson? 00:30:46.54\00:30:49.44 Number one, the creator of the universe, 00:30:49.48\00:30:52.28 became flesh and taught us Himself. 00:30:52.31\00:30:55.15 Who wouldn't want the inventor 00:30:55.18\00:30:56.58 of computer to teach us personally about 00:30:56.62\00:30:59.75 how to use a computer? 00:30:59.79\00:31:01.62 We have the creator of the universe to teach us 00:31:01.66\00:31:05.09 how to worship, how to live among men, 00:31:05.13\00:31:07.90 how to function in this world. 00:31:07.93\00:31:10.87 We have the ultimate teacher, Jesus. 00:31:10.90\00:31:14.40 He left us lessons on how to treat our fellow men 00:31:14.44\00:31:17.21 and from Him, we can learn about God's ways, 00:31:17.24\00:31:20.11 and His will because Jesus was God. 00:31:20.14\00:31:23.81 What qualities make a good teacher? 00:31:23.85\00:31:26.95 A good teacher is a strong communicator. 00:31:26.98\00:31:30.29 Jesus was a powerful communicator, 00:31:30.32\00:31:32.42 Matthew 7:28-29. 00:31:32.45\00:31:35.56 He says, "When Jesus had finished 00:31:35.59\00:31:37.39 saying these things the crowds were amazed 00:31:37.43\00:31:40.00 at His teaching because He taught as 00:31:40.03\00:31:42.53 one who had authority 00:31:42.56\00:31:44.83 and not as their teachers of the law." 00:31:44.87\00:31:47.24 Of course, He had authority. Right? 00:31:47.27\00:31:51.27 I mean, He had authority 00:31:51.31\00:31:53.68 because He was the originator of the law. 00:31:53.71\00:31:57.48 A good teacher, number two, listens well. 00:31:57.51\00:32:00.22 Jesus stayed in the moment as He ministered to people. 00:32:00.25\00:32:04.19 No, where do we read about 00:32:04.22\00:32:05.55 His mind wandering all over the place 00:32:05.59\00:32:07.72 like mine does sometimes. 00:32:07.76\00:32:09.09 He was focused. 00:32:09.12\00:32:10.46 He focused His mind 00:32:10.49\00:32:12.19 and He was in the moment with people 00:32:12.23\00:32:15.60 as He talked to them. 00:32:15.63\00:32:16.97 Number three, a good teacher is engaging. 00:32:17.00\00:32:20.14 Jesus would look at them, He touched them. 00:32:20.17\00:32:23.10 He touched the lepers 00:32:23.14\00:32:24.51 when they were considered unclean. 00:32:24.54\00:32:26.94 He touched the buyer of the widow, 00:32:26.98\00:32:30.48 He touched, He touched people. 00:32:30.51\00:32:34.32 He reached out to them. 00:32:34.35\00:32:35.78 He was engaging. 00:32:35.82\00:32:39.02 A good teacher shows empathy and caring and concern. 00:32:39.05\00:32:43.22 When we're tired, He says, "Come to me, 00:32:43.26\00:32:45.53 all you who labor and are heavy laden, 00:32:45.56\00:32:47.53 and I will give you rest. 00:32:47.56\00:32:48.93 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, 00:32:48.96\00:32:51.60 for I am meek and lowly in heart, 00:32:51.63\00:32:53.87 and you will find rest unto your souls." 00:32:53.90\00:32:56.44 We can have rest in Jesus, we can rest in Him. 00:32:56.47\00:33:00.61 Number five, a good teacher has patience. 00:33:00.64\00:33:03.95 There was no greater demonstration 00:33:03.98\00:33:05.81 of the patience of Christ, 00:33:05.85\00:33:07.65 or any human as in the scenes 00:33:07.68\00:33:09.42 leading up to the crucifixion, from the garden of Gethsemane 00:33:09.45\00:33:13.52 when the disciples fell asleep, 00:33:13.56\00:33:15.76 and He went to them 00:33:15.79\00:33:17.16 and ask them where they sleep 00:33:17.19\00:33:18.53 from that time to the cross of Calvary. 00:33:18.56\00:33:21.96 The Savior demonstrated amazing, amazing patience. 00:33:22.00\00:33:27.80 Number six, a good teacher makes you think. 00:33:27.84\00:33:31.41 Jesus will go beyond the surface. 00:33:31.44\00:33:34.11 He didn't just deal superficially. 00:33:34.14\00:33:36.61 You know, He said, 00:33:36.64\00:33:38.08 for example, in Matthew 5:27-28, 00:33:38.11\00:33:40.75 "You have heard it said to those of old, 00:33:40.78\00:33:43.85 'You shall not commit adultery. 00:33:43.89\00:33:45.22 But I say to you that 00:33:45.25\00:33:46.69 whoever looks at a woman to lust for her 00:33:46.72\00:33:49.29 has already committed adultery with her in his heart." 00:33:49.32\00:33:53.09 Number seven, a good teacher is adaptable. 00:33:53.13\00:33:56.26 When Jesus was with fishermen, He talked about fishing. 00:33:56.30\00:34:00.04 When He was with farmers, He talked about farming, 00:34:00.07\00:34:03.14 the seeds, the soil, the wheat, the tears. 00:34:03.17\00:34:06.21 He was always flexible in His methods, 00:34:06.24\00:34:11.08 but not His message. 00:34:11.11\00:34:13.88 The message was consistent. 00:34:13.92\00:34:16.42 The methods were adaptable, adapted to His audience. 00:34:16.45\00:34:21.12 And a good teacher is creative. 00:34:21.16\00:34:23.69 Jesus Christ, the Creator of the universe, 00:34:23.73\00:34:27.40 often used parables to teach those around Him 00:34:27.43\00:34:30.43 the parable of the workers in Matthew 20, 00:34:30.47\00:34:33.10 the parable of the two sons in Matthew 21, 00:34:33.13\00:34:36.67 He used parables because He was creative in the way 00:34:36.71\00:34:41.84 He presented truth. 00:34:41.88\00:34:43.75 We can trust our Rabbi Jesus. 00:34:43.78\00:34:46.92 He is the ultimate. 00:34:46.95\00:34:48.78 He is the ultimate teacher 00:34:48.82\00:34:50.15 because He is the Creator of all things. 00:34:50.19\00:34:52.95 We can trust Him 00:34:52.99\00:34:54.32 because we know that in the beginning was the Word 00:34:54.36\00:34:58.99 and the Word was With God, 00:34:59.03\00:35:01.00 and the Word was God 00:35:01.03\00:35:02.60 the same was in the beginning with God. 00:35:02.63\00:35:04.83 All things were made by Him. 00:35:04.87\00:35:06.90 And without Him was not anything 00:35:06.94\00:35:08.84 made that was made. 00:35:08.87\00:35:10.61 We can trust Jesus, the consummate teacher. 00:35:10.64\00:35:14.34 Amen. Amen. 00:35:14.38\00:35:15.71 Yeah, that was wonderful. Thank you. Praise the lord. 00:35:15.74\00:35:18.38 I'm gonna go Church, we just wanted the seminary. 00:35:18.41\00:35:21.38 I love everybody's studies their lesson 00:35:21.42\00:35:25.65 and brings so much. 00:35:25.69\00:35:27.42 I have Wednesday. 00:35:27.46\00:35:29.19 And the title is A Woman Talks Back. 00:35:29.22\00:35:33.63 So let's turn to Matthew Chapter 15. 00:35:33.66\00:35:37.43 Matthew 15. 00:35:37.47\00:35:39.17 We're going to begin with verse 21. 00:35:39.20\00:35:42.07 That's Matthew 15:21. 00:35:42.10\00:35:46.07 "So Jesus went out there 00:35:46.11\00:35:47.94 and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 00:35:47.98\00:35:51.51 Now let me set this up. 00:35:51.55\00:35:53.48 This region was a region of ethnic tension 00:35:53.52\00:35:59.15 between the Jews and the Gentiles. 00:35:59.19\00:36:02.12 I mean, the tension was just bristling there. 00:36:02.16\00:36:05.26 John the Baptist had been beheaded. 00:36:05.29\00:36:08.56 And Jesus was facing the dangers of His mission. 00:36:08.60\00:36:12.73 So when he was feeling tired 00:36:12.77\00:36:15.80 and straying, he went here, 00:36:15.84\00:36:18.97 looking for some rest. 00:36:19.01\00:36:20.58 I mean, the Jewish leaders were trying to do amen. 00:36:20.61\00:36:23.75 They were pouring on the pressure. 00:36:23.78\00:36:25.95 And it says it in Mark 7, 00:36:25.98\00:36:30.09 which is the parallel account. 00:36:30.12\00:36:32.79 Jesus didn't want anybody to know that He was there. 00:36:32.82\00:36:35.62 He was wanting to pull away, 00:36:35.66\00:36:37.63 get some rest and teach His disciples 00:36:37.66\00:36:39.83 a little more before His crucifixion. 00:36:39.86\00:36:42.13 So verse 22, Matthew 15:22, here's what happens. 00:36:42.16\00:36:47.07 "Behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region, 00:36:47.10\00:36:51.87 and cried out to Him, saying, 00:36:51.91\00:36:54.28 'Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! 00:36:54.31\00:36:58.51 My daughter is severely demon-possessed.'" 00:36:58.55\00:37:03.35 Canaanites, with the most notable enemies of Israel, 00:37:03.39\00:37:08.96 these were pagan enemies, they were notorious, 00:37:08.99\00:37:13.56 but she calls him Son of David. 00:37:13.60\00:37:18.13 She recognized she knew the covenant 00:37:18.17\00:37:22.10 Sonship progression should go this way. 00:37:22.14\00:37:25.34 That, David, part of the covenant was, 00:37:25.37\00:37:29.88 when God made the covenant with David, 00:37:29.91\00:37:31.91 you will have someone who's on the throne forever. 00:37:31.95\00:37:36.22 So she's recognizing Jesus 00:37:36.25\00:37:38.15 by calling him Son of David as the Messiah. 00:37:38.19\00:37:43.43 Now what's interesting, it says in verse 23, 00:37:43.46\00:37:47.23 "He answered her not a word. 00:37:47.26\00:37:50.67 And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, 00:37:50.70\00:37:54.94 'Send her away, she cries out after us.'" 00:37:54.97\00:37:58.44 It was culturally unacceptable for a woman to assert herself. 00:37:58.47\00:38:03.48 And you can tell that, 00:38:03.51\00:38:05.35 I mean, she had the further disadvantage 00:38:05.38\00:38:07.18 of being a Gentile, 00:38:07.22\00:38:08.55 there was some prejudice here, 00:38:08.58\00:38:10.39 so the disciples are dismissive, 00:38:10.42\00:38:12.29 they're impatient with her, and they're just like, 00:38:12.32\00:38:14.52 "Oh, Lord, get rid of this woman." 00:38:14.56\00:38:17.43 And, you know, Jesus was not ignoring her. 00:38:17.46\00:38:23.26 We're gonna see that in the lesson 00:38:23.30\00:38:25.53 'cause what He wanted to do is master teacher 00:38:25.57\00:38:28.90 was not only teach her something, 00:38:28.94\00:38:31.01 but teach His disciples. 00:38:31.04\00:38:32.77 He says in verse 24, "He answered the woman, 00:38:32.81\00:38:37.61 and He said, 'I was not sent 00:38:37.65\00:38:40.98 except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.'" 00:38:41.02\00:38:44.62 Now let me just do a little sidebar, 00:38:44.65\00:38:46.99 in Matthew 10, 00:38:47.02\00:38:49.12 Jesus had sent the 12 out, commanding them 00:38:49.16\00:38:52.19 don't go into the way of the Gentiles go, 00:38:52.23\00:38:56.70 don't enter into the senate city 00:38:56.73\00:38:58.43 of the Samaritans. 00:38:58.47\00:38:59.80 He didn't tell them, 00:38:59.83\00:39:01.17 they couldn't teach Gentiles or Samaritans, 00:39:01.20\00:39:03.34 but He was saying go 00:39:03.37\00:39:05.31 to the lost sheep of Israel first 00:39:05.34\00:39:07.38 is basically what he was saying. 00:39:07.41\00:39:09.64 So as the covenant son, 00:39:09.68\00:39:14.72 he had a covenant mission, 00:39:14.75\00:39:17.19 and that was to reach the children, 00:39:17.22\00:39:21.52 the covenant children of God first, 00:39:21.56\00:39:24.79 we might say today, 00:39:24.83\00:39:26.16 he was preaching to the choir, but, you know, 00:39:26.19\00:39:27.73 what sometimes choir needs a little preaching. 00:39:27.76\00:39:30.57 I mean, if they're singing off tune, 00:39:30.60\00:39:33.07 if they're singing off tune, 00:39:33.10\00:39:34.44 they're not going to anybody come join him 00:39:34.47\00:39:36.37 because it's not very attractive, 00:39:36.40\00:39:38.81 but also because the children of the covenant 00:39:38.84\00:39:42.91 had been taken advantage of by their spiritual leaders. 00:39:42.94\00:39:48.32 So what he does then verse 25, 00:39:48.35\00:39:52.85 he's trying, you know, Romans 1:16 00:39:52.89\00:39:55.02 says the power of the gospel 00:39:55.06\00:39:56.76 was first for the Jews and also for the Gentiles. 00:39:56.79\00:40:00.76 Verse 25, the woman, it says, "Then she came," 00:40:00.80\00:40:06.30 and what did she do? 00:40:06.33\00:40:07.67 Worshiped Him. "She worshiped Him." 00:40:07.70\00:40:10.67 I can see her on her knees in front of Jesus. 00:40:10.71\00:40:15.64 And she says, "'Lord, help me!' 00:40:15.68\00:40:20.02 But He answered and said," this is interesting. 00:40:20.05\00:40:22.88 Here's coming our lesson. 00:40:22.92\00:40:24.95 "It is not good to take the children's bread 00:40:24.99\00:40:27.82 and throw it to the little dogs." 00:40:27.86\00:40:32.56 The parallel passage of Matthew 7, 00:40:32.59\00:40:37.20 add something, here's what it says. 00:40:37.23\00:40:39.70 Mark 7. Mark 7. 00:40:39.73\00:40:42.04 Thank you. 00:40:42.07\00:40:43.77 What Mark 7 says, Jesus says, 00:40:43.81\00:40:47.98 "Let the little children be filled first." 00:40:48.01\00:40:52.61 So that was the top price already, 00:40:52.65\00:40:55.75 but it also implied, 00:40:55.78\00:40:57.15 hey, Gentiles, you're gonna have your turn. 00:40:57.19\00:41:01.56 And then He went on and said, 00:41:01.59\00:41:03.09 "It's not good to take the children's bread 00:41:03.12\00:41:04.83 and throw it to the little dogs." 00:41:04.86\00:41:06.53 Now I wanna point out when Jesus used this term, 00:41:06.56\00:41:11.10 little dogs, this wasn't a racial slur. 00:41:11.13\00:41:14.54 In fact, it was a term of endearment. 00:41:14.57\00:41:17.41 The little dogs were belonged to the wealthy people. 00:41:17.44\00:41:21.28 They were the lap. 00:41:21.31\00:41:23.04 The little pets, they were lap dogs. 00:41:23.08\00:41:26.55 Now the Jews when they referred to the Canaanites, 00:41:26.58\00:41:31.22 they use different words to call them dogs 00:41:31.25\00:41:33.76 like they were ferocious mongrels, 00:41:33.79\00:41:37.13 but what he's implying here 00:41:37.16\00:41:40.90 is that at that time, 00:41:40.93\00:41:44.17 Gentiles didn't have the same place 00:41:44.20\00:41:46.63 in God's household. 00:41:46.67\00:41:48.00 He had to reach the covenant children first. 00:41:48.04\00:41:51.27 And when he's talking about the bread 00:41:51.31\00:41:53.61 that was the covenant blessings 00:41:53.64\00:41:55.18 that were offered to the Jews, so verse 27, 00:41:55.21\00:41:58.71 she says, "Yes, Lord, 00:41:58.75\00:42:02.35 yet even to the little dogs eat the crumbs 00:42:02.38\00:42:07.39 which fall from their master's table." 00:42:07.42\00:42:11.09 I think that's precious 00:42:11.13\00:42:13.06 because she did not get offended. 00:42:13.09\00:42:16.13 She didn't... 00:42:16.16\00:42:17.50 There was no spirit of pride in her. 00:42:17.53\00:42:19.67 In fact, her answer shows total humility. 00:42:19.70\00:42:24.34 You know, the little dogs that little pets get to eat, 00:42:24.37\00:42:29.11 from the crumbs that are falling 00:42:29.14\00:42:31.41 from their master's table. 00:42:31.45\00:42:33.55 So her humble faith, her worshipful attitude, 00:42:33.58\00:42:39.29 she in the lesson it says, she's the woman who talkback. 00:42:39.32\00:42:43.02 Well, let me tell you something. 00:42:43.06\00:42:44.79 So am I. 00:42:44.83\00:42:47.86 I can't tell you how many times I talk back to the Lord. 00:42:47.90\00:42:50.80 I remember when the Lord told me that piece 00:42:50.83\00:42:55.54 I was in a really miserable time. 00:42:55.57\00:42:58.34 It had been a year of severe illness. 00:42:58.37\00:43:01.91 And the Lord said to me, 00:43:01.94\00:43:04.31 I set before you life and death, choose life. 00:43:04.35\00:43:07.75 And I was in no shape to figure it out. 00:43:07.78\00:43:11.85 And I told the Lord, I said, Lord, you know, my condition, 00:43:11.89\00:43:15.99 I have chosen like Jesus Christ is my Savior. 00:43:16.02\00:43:19.29 If you mean anything more than that, 00:43:19.33\00:43:22.46 you've got to explain it to me. 00:43:22.50\00:43:24.40 I can't figure it out. 00:43:24.43\00:43:26.57 And He said to me, "My word is life to you. 00:43:26.60\00:43:31.57 If you choose My Word, you've chosen life." 00:43:31.61\00:43:35.64 Let me tell you something. 00:43:35.68\00:43:37.28 God knows what you're thinking. 00:43:37.31\00:43:39.38 And you can... 00:43:39.41\00:43:40.82 It's not being taught. 00:43:40.85\00:43:42.18 I wasn't talking back disrespectfully. 00:43:42.22\00:43:45.49 I wasn't being prideful. 00:43:45.52\00:43:47.46 I was crying out to the Lord 00:43:47.49\00:43:49.06 like this woman was, helped me, Lord, understand. 00:43:49.09\00:43:52.93 And so when you are reading the Word of God, 00:43:52.96\00:43:56.56 I encourage you to pray 00:43:56.60\00:43:58.13 and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand. 00:43:58.17\00:44:01.60 And when you don't tell Him what I don't understand, 00:44:01.64\00:44:05.27 show me. 00:44:05.31\00:44:06.64 So listen to Jesus' reaction to this woman. 00:44:06.68\00:44:10.91 Verse 28. 00:44:10.95\00:44:12.65 "Jesus answered to her after she said, "Hey, 00:44:12.68\00:44:15.72 even the little dogs get to eat the crumbs 00:44:15.75\00:44:18.22 that dropped from their master's table." 00:44:18.25\00:44:20.62 He says that I could see with a big smile. 00:44:20.66\00:44:23.89 "'O woman, great is your faith! 00:44:23.93\00:44:26.49 Let it be to you as you desire.' 00:44:26.53\00:44:30.17 And her daughter was healed at that very moment." 00:44:30.20\00:44:34.37 You know, He commands her 00:44:34.40\00:44:36.17 and we know He wasn't trying to hold back from the Gentiles. 00:44:36.20\00:44:40.04 He had already healed the Centurion's Servant. 00:44:40.08\00:44:44.38 And He commended the Centurion saying 00:44:44.41\00:44:48.52 what greater faith I haven't found 00:44:48.55\00:44:50.75 anywhere in Israel. 00:44:50.79\00:44:52.25 And so now He's telling her the same thing, 00:44:52.29\00:44:57.16 but Luke 18:8, he says, "I tell you," 00:44:57.19\00:45:01.56 when he's talking about the widow and the judge, 00:45:01.60\00:45:04.53 he says, as the widows crying out, 00:45:04.57\00:45:07.90 I tell you that, "God will avenge speedily. 00:45:07.94\00:45:12.44 Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, 00:45:12.47\00:45:14.61 will He find faith on the earth?" 00:45:14.64\00:45:17.18 We have to be persistent 00:45:17.21\00:45:19.95 and come before Him in true faith. 00:45:19.98\00:45:23.12 Amen. Amen. Thank you, Shelley. 00:45:23.15\00:45:25.49 You guys have really lit a bonfire here. 00:45:25.52\00:45:28.56 So I'm down here down winning the smoke. 00:45:28.59\00:45:32.13 Appreciate all of that you've, but mine is a Thursday, 00:45:32.16\00:45:35.70 The Student Who Gets It. 00:45:35.73\00:45:38.53 Now this is important to me because growing up as a... 00:45:38.57\00:45:42.14 Grown up in a Seventh-day Adventist home, 00:45:42.17\00:45:44.31 I didn't get it most of my life, 00:45:44.34\00:45:46.78 but when I got it, it got me. 00:45:46.81\00:45:48.78 That's the difference here. 00:45:48.81\00:45:50.15 We're gonna go and look at something 00:45:50.18\00:45:51.65 The Student Who Gets It turned to Mark Chapter 10 00:45:51.68\00:45:56.02 as you go there, verse 46-52. 00:45:56.05\00:45:59.55 This is a story about a blind man 00:45:59.59\00:46:02.92 who receives his sight which is far deeper than 00:46:02.96\00:46:05.09 just receiving sight 00:46:05.13\00:46:07.56 because when you when you look at the truth, 00:46:07.60\00:46:09.93 when you see the truth as it is in Jesus, 00:46:09.96\00:46:12.27 it is not always apparent because truth is revelatory. 00:46:12.30\00:46:17.61 You're gonna see that in just a moment. 00:46:17.64\00:46:19.44 When we hear the truth as it is in Jesus, 00:46:19.47\00:46:22.51 we don't always see it 00:46:22.54\00:46:25.11 because truth is revelatory Notice this. 00:46:25.15\00:46:29.52 "Now," verse 46, "they came to Jericho. 00:46:29.55\00:46:33.25 As He went out of Jericho with His disciples 00:46:33.29\00:46:35.29 and a great multitude, 00:46:35.32\00:46:37.53 blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, 00:46:37.56\00:46:39.83 sat by the road begging. 00:46:39.86\00:46:43.03 And when he heard that it was Jesus," first of all, 00:46:43.06\00:46:45.47 he heard that it was, "Jesus of Nazareth, 00:46:45.50\00:46:48.77 he began to cry out and say, 'Jesus, Son of David, 00:46:48.80\00:46:52.04 have mercy on me!' 00:46:52.07\00:46:54.08 Then many warned him to be quiet, 00:46:54.11\00:46:56.85 but he crowded all the more, 'Son of David, 00:46:56.88\00:46:59.81 have mercy on me!' 00:46:59.85\00:47:01.55 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. 00:47:01.58\00:47:05.32 Then they call the blind man's saying to him, 00:47:05.35\00:47:08.39 'Be of good cheer. 00:47:08.42\00:47:09.76 Rise, He is calling you.' 00:47:09.79\00:47:13.06 And throwing aside his garment," 00:47:13.09\00:47:15.93 spiritual change from our righteousness to His. 00:47:15.96\00:47:20.17 "He rose," you can't sit down when Jesus calls, 00:47:20.20\00:47:23.54 "and came to Him." 00:47:23.57\00:47:24.91 You can't run away from Him. 00:47:24.94\00:47:26.64 All these are actions of transformation on the way. 00:47:26.68\00:47:30.68 "So Jesus answered and said to him," I love this. 00:47:30.71\00:47:33.25 When you are willing to get rid of your garment 00:47:33.28\00:47:37.92 and rise up at the word of Christ 00:47:37.95\00:47:41.62 and come to Him, 00:47:41.66\00:47:43.49 only then can you answer the question, 00:47:43.53\00:47:46.49 "What would you have Me do for you?" 00:47:46.53\00:47:48.80 So he said, "The blind man said to Him, 00:47:48.83\00:47:52.43 'Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.' 00:47:52.47\00:47:54.80 Then Jesus said to him, 'Go your way, 00:47:54.84\00:47:58.07 your faith has made you well.' 00:47:58.11\00:48:00.41 And immediately he received his sight 00:48:00.44\00:48:03.71 and followed Jesus on the road." 00:48:03.75\00:48:06.05 As I studied the story, I say, 00:48:06.08\00:48:08.12 I came to a conclusion 00:48:08.15\00:48:09.48 that the formerly blind man follow Jesus, 00:48:09.52\00:48:11.49 not because of physical restoration, 00:48:11.52\00:48:14.42 but of spiritual alteration. 00:48:14.46\00:48:17.86 There's a difference. 00:48:17.89\00:48:19.23 A lot of people have physical restoration, 00:48:19.26\00:48:21.03 but can't see. 00:48:21.06\00:48:22.96 A lot of people have perfectly good eyes, 00:48:23.00\00:48:25.57 but they never come to the point of following Jesus 00:48:25.60\00:48:28.80 because the physical restoration 00:48:28.84\00:48:30.87 doesn't always mean the physical restoration 00:48:30.91\00:48:33.98 doesn't always equate to spiritual alteration. 00:48:34.01\00:48:36.64 He had an altering moment with Christ. 00:48:36.68\00:48:38.41 That's why when they said to him, "Shh..." 00:48:38.45\00:48:40.82 He said, "No!" 00:48:40.85\00:48:42.88 And he raised his voice because this was his moment. 00:48:42.92\00:48:45.59 Some of you never have a spiritual alteration 00:48:45.62\00:48:47.89 because you don't take advantage of the moment. 00:48:47.92\00:48:51.03 They didn't take advantage of the moment. 00:48:51.06\00:48:52.49 So when you look at the story, 00:48:52.53\00:48:53.86 the revelatory nature of Jesus is expressed in the story. 00:48:53.90\00:48:57.33 Revelatory, meaning what? 00:48:57.37\00:48:58.83 Enlightening, not just physical but spiritually enlightening, 00:48:58.87\00:49:02.30 also illuminating. 00:49:02.34\00:49:04.61 He saw something physical, 00:49:04.64\00:49:06.37 but he saw something even deeper spiritually that 00:49:06.41\00:49:08.98 he had never understood before. 00:49:09.01\00:49:10.81 I'm convinced that we decided to follow Jesus, 00:49:10.85\00:49:13.01 not because we understand something 00:49:13.05\00:49:15.25 but because we embrace it. 00:49:15.28\00:49:17.82 Now follow what I mean by that 00:49:17.85\00:49:19.45 because not only is truth revelatory, 00:49:19.49\00:49:22.16 it has an enlightening component 00:49:22.19\00:49:23.63 and an illuminating component, 00:49:23.66\00:49:25.43 and edifying component and advisory component, 00:49:25.46\00:49:28.90 but it also has an elucidative component. 00:49:28.93\00:49:32.50 Now follow what that means. 00:49:32.53\00:49:33.87 Elucidative means truth is not become truth 00:49:33.90\00:49:36.60 because you understand it. 00:49:36.64\00:49:38.64 Truth becomes truth because you embrace it, 00:49:38.67\00:49:43.08 meaning it's truth before it's clear to you, 00:49:43.11\00:49:46.11 but elucidative means progressively clear. 00:49:46.15\00:49:49.68 See, when you embrace what Jesus' Word says, 00:49:49.72\00:49:52.99 then one day the light will come on. 00:49:53.02\00:49:56.36 But if you don't embrace it as it is, 00:49:56.39\00:49:58.66 then the light will never come on. 00:49:58.69\00:50:00.60 It's like buying a brand new toy, 00:50:00.63\00:50:02.66 you don't know how to use it, but the more you play with it, 00:50:02.70\00:50:06.27 you get excited because you learn the features. 00:50:06.30\00:50:08.87 Now those features are already there, 00:50:08.90\00:50:11.44 but if you repulse the toy, if you put away the object, 00:50:11.47\00:50:15.78 if you don't study the manual, the instructional book, 00:50:15.81\00:50:20.05 something that you purchase, 00:50:20.08\00:50:21.42 you will never get to the depth of its usage. 00:50:21.45\00:50:24.79 You see this blind man, one is something more. 00:50:24.82\00:50:27.92 I believe that when Jesus affects us spiritually, 00:50:27.96\00:50:31.89 then we have no other choice but to follow Him. 00:50:31.93\00:50:35.53 Those who are following Jesus are affected spiritually, 00:50:35.56\00:50:40.24 they're not affected physically. 00:50:40.27\00:50:42.20 Physical manifestation 00:50:42.24\00:50:43.57 is a lot of what Christianity is today, 00:50:43.61\00:50:45.67 physical manifestation. 00:50:45.71\00:50:47.31 That's why in this COVID-19 environment, 00:50:47.34\00:50:49.08 a lot of people are affected negatively 00:50:49.11\00:50:51.61 because they can't show their relationship physically. 00:50:51.65\00:50:55.68 What I want to tell you, brethren, 00:50:55.72\00:50:58.35 the emotion of religion 00:50:58.39\00:51:00.59 can never replace the elucidative aspects of it, 00:51:00.62\00:51:06.93 the clarity of it, once again, 00:51:06.96\00:51:08.86 truth does not become truth because you understand it. 00:51:08.90\00:51:13.44 It becomes, it is already truth, 00:51:13.47\00:51:16.04 when it becomes clear to you. 00:51:16.07\00:51:17.94 I got it. 00:51:17.97\00:51:19.31 And how many times have you studied something? 00:51:19.34\00:51:21.34 I know you've been studying the names of God, 00:51:21.38\00:51:23.48 but you just lit us up today on that, I appreciate that. 00:51:23.51\00:51:25.31 Praise the Lord. 00:51:25.35\00:51:26.68 But what happens, it's what you studied 00:51:26.72\00:51:28.82 became elucidative, 00:51:28.85\00:51:30.49 clear, I love when you said, Jesus... 00:51:30.52\00:51:34.46 Creation is the effect of His reality. 00:51:34.49\00:51:38.66 I'm kind of paraphrasing it. 00:51:38.69\00:51:40.30 He is. 00:51:40.33\00:51:42.20 So therefore He does not He becomes but He is. 00:51:42.23\00:51:47.50 I am not I was or I will be, I am the reality of God. 00:51:47.54\00:51:51.51 So when you look at this, you find also in John 9:7 00:51:51.54\00:51:55.68 look at the elucidative process here, 00:51:55.71\00:51:58.31 embracing truth and going on it 00:51:58.35\00:52:00.98 and something happens when you embrace it. 00:52:01.02\00:52:03.25 Look at this, John 9:7, "And He said to him, 00:52:03.28\00:52:06.35 'Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, 00:52:06.39\00:52:09.56 which is translated sent. 00:52:09.59\00:52:11.86 So he went and washed, and came back seeing." 00:52:11.89\00:52:16.80 The elucidative quality what he didn't understand, 00:52:16.83\00:52:20.57 he didn't wait till it was clear 00:52:20.60\00:52:22.40 before he started walking, 00:52:22.44\00:52:23.91 he started walking in darkness, 00:52:23.94\00:52:25.87 but came back in light. 00:52:25.91\00:52:27.58 So when you embrace truth, while you're in darkness, 00:52:27.61\00:52:30.51 you will come back in light, elucidative qualities. 00:52:30.55\00:52:34.05 And when you look at this whole aspect of sin, 00:52:34.08\00:52:35.88 and we talked about that earlier, 00:52:35.92\00:52:37.29 you'll notice sin was introduced 00:52:37.32\00:52:39.05 by Satan appealing to each side. 00:52:39.09\00:52:42.69 He said, "Your eyes will be opened." 00:52:42.72\00:52:45.59 He was saying to her, 00:52:45.63\00:52:46.96 "You can have a physical alteration." 00:52:47.00\00:52:50.07 What she didn't know was Jesus 00:52:50.10\00:52:51.77 had already given her a spiritual illumination. 00:52:51.80\00:52:55.07 When you reject spiritual illumination 00:52:55.10\00:52:57.51 for physical alteration, then you go in darkness. 00:52:57.54\00:53:01.41 That's the difference. 00:53:01.44\00:53:02.78 She was looking for something she already had. 00:53:02.81\00:53:04.51 Don't look for something you already had. 00:53:04.55\00:53:06.21 That's what sin does. 00:53:06.25\00:53:07.58 It promises you something can never give you 00:53:07.62\00:53:10.15 and it takes away something you already have. 00:53:10.19\00:53:12.99 Going to the next aspect, 00:53:13.02\00:53:15.39 Satan introduced sin by appealing to physical sight, 00:53:15.42\00:53:19.26 but Jesus introduces righteousness 00:53:19.29\00:53:21.53 by appealing to spiritual sight. 00:53:21.56\00:53:23.77 He says in Revelation 3:18, "Buy of me white, 00:53:23.80\00:53:28.70 anoint my eyes with eyes salve that I may see." 00:53:28.74\00:53:33.41 The spiritual transformation is elucidative. 00:53:33.44\00:53:37.21 Your eyesight benefits 00:53:37.25\00:53:40.85 from what is already truth when Jesus said, 00:53:40.88\00:53:43.08 "I am the way, the truth and the life." 00:53:43.12\00:53:44.99 He's not saying I'm gonna become truth, 00:53:45.02\00:53:46.92 I am truth. 00:53:46.96\00:53:48.29 If you embrace me, your eyes will be opened. 00:53:48.32\00:53:51.09 And you see that what happened with him. 00:53:51.13\00:53:52.73 And I think that Jill quite brought this out. 00:53:52.76\00:53:55.03 The eyes of them both were opened. 00:53:55.06\00:53:57.57 And they rejected the quality that they already had. 00:53:57.60\00:54:01.90 And they embraced something that they didn't want. 00:54:01.94\00:54:04.47 You see, you may see. 00:54:04.51\00:54:06.07 And I wanna bring this out. 00:54:06.11\00:54:07.44 I wrote this down here, 00:54:07.48\00:54:08.81 disobedience may placate your physical vision, 00:54:08.84\00:54:11.81 but impede your spiritual vision. 00:54:11.85\00:54:14.82 You may see something you never saw, 00:54:14.85\00:54:17.05 but when you see it, you say, "I wish I never did." 00:54:17.09\00:54:19.95 That's what sin does. 00:54:19.99\00:54:21.82 You'll notice the impact 00:54:21.86\00:54:23.49 and the spiritual alteration that Jesus wants to bring 00:54:23.53\00:54:26.06 the spiritual refreshment 00:54:26.09\00:54:27.63 always has to do with spiritual insight. 00:54:27.66\00:54:30.13 There are people that reject the law of God, you know why? 00:54:30.17\00:54:32.37 Because they have not asked 00:54:32.40\00:54:33.74 for the law of God to be revealed to them. 00:54:33.77\00:54:35.74 David asked, "Open my eyes, 00:54:35.77\00:54:38.17 that I may behold wonderful things from your law." 00:54:38.21\00:54:40.78 People reject the law of God 00:54:40.81\00:54:42.14 because they don't say, "Lord, open my eyes." 00:54:42.18\00:54:44.68 They're looking physically 00:54:44.71\00:54:46.25 and rejecting something physically 00:54:46.28\00:54:48.25 that can only be seen at the request the blind man. 00:54:48.28\00:54:52.29 What would you have me do restore my site? 00:54:52.32\00:54:55.42 Let me make a recommendation. 00:54:55.46\00:54:57.69 If the law of God is unappealing to you, 00:54:57.73\00:54:59.89 do what the blind man did. 00:54:59.93\00:55:01.63 Restore my sight because David made it clear, 00:55:01.66\00:55:04.30 "Open my eyes that I may see 00:55:04.33\00:55:07.84 wonderful things from your law." 00:55:07.87\00:55:09.87 And finally, the Lord said the reason 00:55:09.90\00:55:11.84 why the world is in the condition 00:55:11.87\00:55:13.38 that isn't today 00:55:13.41\00:55:15.34 is because seeing they do not see, 00:55:15.38\00:55:17.98 hearing they do not hear. 00:55:18.01\00:55:19.65 And therefore their understanding 00:55:19.68\00:55:21.08 is not fruitful. 00:55:21.12\00:55:22.45 Pray the prayer of the blind man, 00:55:22.48\00:55:23.95 open my eyes, 00:55:23.99\00:55:25.32 and you'll see the truth as it is in Jesus. 00:55:25.35\00:55:27.56 Amen. 00:55:27.59\00:55:28.92 Thank you so much. 00:55:28.96\00:55:30.53 What an incredible study. Praise the Lord. 00:55:30.56\00:55:33.13 Thank you, Pastor John, 00:55:33.16\00:55:34.50 and Shelley, and Yvonne, and Pastor Ryan. 00:55:34.53\00:55:36.93 I hope you have been as blessed as we have been just sitting 00:55:36.97\00:55:39.13 and soaking in what the Lord has for us through His Word. 00:55:39.17\00:55:42.70 I wanna give each one of you a moment 00:55:42.74\00:55:44.07 to share something about your day. 00:55:44.11\00:55:45.44 Yeah, absolutely. 00:55:45.47\00:55:46.81 You know, mine is simple, 00:55:46.84\00:55:48.18 I think we just need to reassess where we are, 00:55:48.21\00:55:50.75 which ladder we're climbing, 00:55:50.78\00:55:52.11 make sure you're not climbing the ladder of the world, 00:55:52.15\00:55:54.45 make sure you're climbing the ladder of Jesus Christ 00:55:54.48\00:55:56.52 because that's what brings true success. 00:55:56.55\00:55:59.29 All of us have had teachers 00:55:59.32\00:56:01.09 who have impacted our lives 00:56:01.12\00:56:02.66 but none as profoundly as Jesus Christ. 00:56:02.69\00:56:06.09 So we just need to take the lessons 00:56:06.13\00:56:08.70 that we learned from Him, absorb them, 00:56:08.73\00:56:10.70 and then share them with others. 00:56:10.73\00:56:13.34 Amen. And amen. 00:56:13.37\00:56:14.70 I would just say that like the woman 00:56:14.74\00:56:16.14 who talked back to the Lord, I've never really thought about 00:56:16.17\00:56:19.31 it as being talking back, but I just ask you that 00:56:19.34\00:56:23.01 when you're praying or when you're reading 00:56:23.04\00:56:25.51 and you don't understand, 00:56:25.55\00:56:27.02 just cry out to the Lord, say, "Lord, 00:56:27.05\00:56:28.82 You're gonna have to explain this to me." 00:56:28.85\00:56:30.59 Because He does give us the mind of Christ 00:56:30.62\00:56:33.56 through the Word and the Holy Spirit. 00:56:33.59\00:56:37.73 Talking about the elucidative of benefits of truth, 00:56:37.76\00:56:41.93 since the creation of the world, 00:56:41.96\00:56:44.17 the invisible attributes of God are clearly seen. 00:56:44.20\00:56:48.80 So why have they not been understood? 00:56:48.84\00:56:51.04 Because faith is the substance of things hoped for. 00:56:51.07\00:56:55.14 The evidence of things, not seen, not gonna alter, 00:56:55.18\00:56:59.91 not yet seen. 00:56:59.95\00:57:01.88 If you pray that prayer, you'll see it. 00:57:01.92\00:57:04.29 Amen. What an amazing study. 00:57:04.32\00:57:06.86 You know, after this study, I want lesson three, 00:57:06.89\00:57:09.72 the next lesson to be More Extra More Lessons 00:57:09.76\00:57:12.93 From the Master Teacher. 00:57:12.96\00:57:14.30 We already had some on the master teacher. 00:57:14.33\00:57:16.03 We made another one. 00:57:16.06\00:57:17.43 Our Closing Scripture, John 1:14. 00:57:17.47\00:57:19.93 Yvonne already unpacked this, 00:57:19.97\00:57:21.37 but I just wanna reference it again. 00:57:21.40\00:57:22.80 John 1:14, "And the Word Jesus Christ 00:57:22.84\00:57:27.08 became flesh and dwelt among us, 00:57:27.11\00:57:31.01 and we beheld His glory, 00:57:31.05\00:57:32.65 the glory as of the only begotten 00:57:32.68\00:57:34.48 of the Father, full of grace and truth." 00:57:34.52\00:57:37.29 I love that word for dwelt in Greek meaning 00:57:37.32\00:57:40.66 to set up one's tent. 00:57:40.69\00:57:42.42 Jesus literally came to this earth 00:57:42.46\00:57:45.23 and tabernacles with us, dwelt with us. 00:57:45.26\00:57:48.90 And He not only did that then, 00:57:48.93\00:57:50.97 He wants to dwell in your heart and in mine, 00:57:51.00\00:57:54.30 by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. 00:57:54.34\00:57:57.07 Join us next week, lesson number seven, 00:57:57.11\00:58:00.14 as we discuss Worship in Education. 00:58:00.18\00:58:03.38 God bless you. 00:58:03.41\00:58:04.75
