Amen. 00:02:50.53\00:02:52.60 Praise the Lord and to your left... 00:02:52.63\00:02:55.40 An empty chair. 00:02:55.44\00:02:56.77 He has defied the laws of physics 00:02:56.81\00:02:59.44 and reality and science 00:02:59.47\00:03:01.31 Pastor Kenny would be with us, 00:03:01.34\00:03:03.45 but because of certain circumstances, 00:03:03.48\00:03:05.61 He's not able to be with us this week. 00:03:05.65\00:03:07.02 But Miss Shelley Quinn is going to take care 00:03:07.05\00:03:10.32 of Thursday's lesson. 00:03:10.35\00:03:11.69 So we're still going to study 00:03:11.72\00:03:13.09 and we're still going to have a good time. 00:03:13.12\00:03:14.46 Amen? Praise the Lord. 00:03:14.49\00:03:15.89 Before we go any further though, 00:03:15.92\00:03:17.43 because we have so much to talk about, 00:03:17.46\00:03:19.19 we need to ask the Lord 00:03:19.23\00:03:20.56 to be with us and to lead and guide us. 00:03:20.60\00:03:21.93 So, Pastor Lomacang, why don't you pray for us? 00:03:21.96\00:03:24.07 Let's bow our heads. 00:03:24.10\00:03:25.43 Gracious Father and loving Lord, 00:03:25.47\00:03:27.47 what a blessing it is to be able to open Your Word 00:03:27.50\00:03:29.60 and to pray for Your Holy Spirit 00:03:29.64\00:03:32.41 that we might rightly divide the word of truth. 00:03:32.44\00:03:36.08 Guide our hearts and minds 00:03:36.11\00:03:37.98 that what we communicate will be clear, 00:03:38.01\00:03:40.85 and those who receive it 00:03:40.88\00:03:42.45 will receive it for Your glory and Your Honor, 00:03:42.48\00:03:44.52 we ask in Jesus' name, amen. 00:03:44.55\00:03:47.36 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:03:47.39\00:03:49.42 The eyes of the Lord, lesson number four, 00:03:49.46\00:03:52.49 the biblical worldview. 00:03:52.53\00:03:53.90 Sabbath afternoon 00:03:53.93\00:03:55.36 introduces to us our memory text for the week. 00:03:55.40\00:03:58.50 And it comes from Proverbs 15:3, 00:03:58.53\00:04:02.37 and the Bible says, 00:04:02.40\00:04:03.74 "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, 00:04:03.77\00:04:07.18 keeping watch on the evil and the good." 00:04:07.21\00:04:10.48 So there's many text in the Bible 00:04:10.51\00:04:11.85 that clearly communicate that 00:04:11.88\00:04:13.21 you can't hide anything from the Lord. 00:04:13.25\00:04:15.75 He sees all, He knows all. 00:04:15.78\00:04:18.05 And I like how the lesson kind of opens up 00:04:18.09\00:04:20.46 a little bit of a poetic wording 00:04:20.49\00:04:22.99 to kind of get us established here. 00:04:23.02\00:04:25.23 Polish poet, 00:04:25.26\00:04:27.00 and I hope I say this right Czeslaw Milosz. 00:04:27.03\00:04:30.37 Good job. 00:04:30.40\00:04:31.73 Czeslaw Milosz, I think that's correct. 00:04:31.77\00:04:33.23 He wrote a poem, 00:04:33.27\00:04:34.60 which began with his writing about imaginary animals. 00:04:34.64\00:04:38.21 So we're talking about like talking rabbits 00:04:38.24\00:04:40.24 and talking squirrels and things of such. 00:04:40.28\00:04:42.91 And he actually says about the poem. 00:04:42.94\00:04:45.31 He says, "They have as much in common with real animals 00:04:45.35\00:04:50.52 as our notions of the world have 00:04:50.55\00:04:53.32 with the real world." 00:04:53.36\00:04:56.02 Then to the end of the poem, he wrote this, 00:04:56.06\00:04:59.93 he says, "think of this and tremble." 00:04:59.96\00:05:03.60 So I'm going to read that one more time 00:05:03.63\00:05:04.97 because I kind of stumbled on my words there. 00:05:05.00\00:05:06.94 He wrote, he says, 00:05:06.97\00:05:08.30 "They," speaking of these talking animals 00:05:08.34\00:05:10.04 that he wrote about, 00:05:10.07\00:05:11.41 "have as much in common with real animals 00:05:11.44\00:05:14.08 as our notions of the world have with the real world." 00:05:14.11\00:05:18.58 And he says, "think on this and tremble." 00:05:18.61\00:05:21.58 And I think he's emphasizing the fact 00:05:21.62\00:05:23.25 that we live in a world today of vast scattered opinions 00:05:23.28\00:05:27.59 and ideas and ideologies, perspectives. 00:05:27.62\00:05:31.06 And when it comes to worldview or in this case, 00:05:31.09\00:05:33.80 we're studying the biblical worldview, 00:05:33.83\00:05:35.26 because that's ultimately what we want 00:05:35.30\00:05:36.90 to achieve is a correct, 00:05:36.93\00:05:38.77 accurate biblical worldview 00:05:38.80\00:05:40.47 according to what the Bible teaches us. 00:05:40.50\00:05:42.77 There are so many different worldviews 00:05:42.80\00:05:45.17 and as for have been for thousands of years. 00:05:45.21\00:05:47.61 For example, the best educated people thought 00:05:47.64\00:05:50.98 more than 2, 000 years ago 00:05:51.01\00:05:52.41 that the earth or over the last 2, 000 years 00:05:52.45\00:05:55.18 up to a certain point that the earth was flat, 00:05:55.22\00:05:58.35 and also was the center of the universe, 00:05:58.39\00:06:00.42 some of the best educated people. 00:06:00.46\00:06:02.02 So they had kind of a twisted worldview 00:06:02.06\00:06:03.96 in that particular perspective. 00:06:03.99\00:06:05.56 And, of course, speaking of today, 00:06:05.59\00:06:07.93 many of today's most educated people believe 00:06:07.96\00:06:11.07 that human beings evolved from monkeys, 00:06:11.10\00:06:13.57 or from all other sorts of, you know, 00:06:13.60\00:06:15.67 small microscopic life. 00:06:15.70\00:06:18.24 And so and we tend to see the world through filters 00:06:18.27\00:06:21.51 that impact how we interpret 00:06:21.54\00:06:22.88 and understand the world around us. 00:06:22.91\00:06:24.68 And, of course, this is called a worldview, 00:06:24.71\00:06:26.95 how you view the world 00:06:26.98\00:06:28.55 and different aspects of the world around you 00:06:28.58\00:06:30.52 is what it is quickly to find his world view. 00:06:30.55\00:06:33.99 And that's what we want to establish today. 00:06:34.02\00:06:35.62 We want to adopt a correct biblical worldview. 00:06:35.66\00:06:38.56 And that's essentially what the lesson is about. 00:06:38.59\00:06:40.46 So I'm going to dive into Sunday's lesson, 00:06:40.50\00:06:42.16 and kind of just to set this up. 00:06:42.20\00:06:43.77 As I was looking into this lesson and studying, 00:06:43.80\00:06:46.30 it kind of brought my attention back to something 00:06:46.33\00:06:48.37 that I saw a couple of years ago, 00:06:48.40\00:06:50.67 celebrity actor Jim Carey. 00:06:50.71\00:06:53.27 Many people may not know who he is, 00:06:53.31\00:06:54.64 but he's a very popular celebrity 00:06:54.68\00:06:56.78 in the American nation. 00:06:56.81\00:06:59.31 And he actually had an interview 00:06:59.35\00:07:01.28 in which he said of his worldview 00:07:01.32\00:07:03.35 and his perspective in kind of a twist on reality, 00:07:03.39\00:07:06.19 he said, "We don't really exist," 00:07:06.22\00:07:08.26 speaking of human beings, 00:07:08.29\00:07:10.69 "we don't even matter," he says. 00:07:10.73\00:07:13.43 And I thought that to be interesting, 00:07:13.46\00:07:15.10 but then I ran across another interview 00:07:15.13\00:07:17.27 with the chief designer of Space X. 00:07:17.30\00:07:20.07 And of course, the CEO of Tesla, 00:07:20.10\00:07:21.80 his name is Elon Musk 00:07:21.84\00:07:23.37 and it's interesting because in a podcast, 00:07:23.41\00:07:25.47 a public podcast interview, 00:07:25.51\00:07:27.14 he said, speaking of his worldview 00:07:27.18\00:07:28.94 and his perspective of reality, 00:07:28.98\00:07:30.85 he said, "We are most likely living in an alternate reality 00:07:30.88\00:07:33.95 or some kind of simulation." 00:07:33.98\00:07:35.95 This was not, 00:07:36.79\00:07:38.65 there was no sarcasm, they were not, 00:07:38.69\00:07:40.72 this was a real thing where he was dead serious 00:07:40.76\00:07:43.29 and his worldview 00:07:43.32\00:07:44.66 or his picture of reality is that, 00:07:44.69\00:07:46.49 you know, right now, as I'm speaking, 00:07:46.53\00:07:48.53 and as people are living and walking and talking 00:07:48.56\00:07:50.57 and existing around the world today 00:07:50.60\00:07:52.27 that we're probably living 00:07:52.30\00:07:53.64 in some kind of alternate reality, 00:07:53.67\00:07:55.00 or maybe we don't even really exist, 00:07:55.04\00:07:56.91 or maybe it's just some kind of weird, 00:07:56.94\00:07:58.61 you know, 00:07:58.64\00:07:59.97 digital assimilation of some kind. 00:08:00.01\00:08:02.18 But, you know, those are just examples 00:08:02.21\00:08:04.15 of some of the modern takes. 00:08:04.18\00:08:06.38 And some of the mentalities 00:08:06.41\00:08:07.75 of what people are thinking of in reference to the worldview 00:08:07.78\00:08:10.75 and how the world exists and what reality is, 00:08:10.79\00:08:13.62 but at the end of the day, 00:08:13.66\00:08:14.99 we need to make sure 00:08:15.02\00:08:16.36 that we have a proper biblical worldview. 00:08:16.39\00:08:17.73 Even recently, 00:08:17.76\00:08:19.09 an Oxford University professor of chemist 00:08:19.13\00:08:20.73 goes to the point 00:08:20.76\00:08:22.10 that I was making in the beginning, 00:08:22.13\00:08:23.47 an Oxford University professor, 00:08:23.50\00:08:24.83 I think the lesson brings this out, 00:08:24.87\00:08:26.20 has theorized that we, 00:08:26.23\00:08:27.87 the world, and everything around us, 00:08:27.90\00:08:31.24 none of it is real. 00:08:31.27\00:08:33.07 Instead, 00:08:33.11\00:08:34.44 we are the digital creations of a race of aliens 00:08:34.48\00:08:37.08 with super powerful computers. 00:08:37.11\00:08:39.31 And again, these are real people, 00:08:39.35\00:08:40.95 educated people with real ideas. 00:08:40.98\00:08:43.15 And ultimately, 00:08:43.18\00:08:44.52 what we need to ask is what is the nature of reality? 00:08:44.55\00:08:47.72 And really, it comes down to two possibilities. 00:08:47.76\00:08:50.43 Again, some people may think more complex outside of this, 00:08:50.46\00:08:52.96 but it comes down to two foundational possibilities, 00:08:52.99\00:08:55.96 as far as the realities 00:08:56.00\00:08:58.03 that are out there today in the average mind of people. 00:08:58.07\00:09:00.64 And so the first one is, and here it is, 00:09:00.67\00:09:02.74 we've heard of this many times. 00:09:02.77\00:09:04.11 The first is that the universe, 00:09:04.14\00:09:05.97 okay, and all that is in it, including us, just is. 00:09:06.01\00:09:12.11 Nothing created it, nothing formed it. 00:09:12.15\00:09:15.65 It's just here. 00:09:15.68\00:09:17.75 It is simply a brute fact, 00:09:17.79\00:09:19.49 according to this particular line of thinking. 00:09:19.52\00:09:21.82 There is no God, 00:09:21.86\00:09:23.26 there are no gods, there is nothing divine. 00:09:23.29\00:09:26.26 Reality is purely material, purely natural. 00:09:26.29\00:09:30.27 In other words, things just are, 00:09:30.30\00:09:33.67 something potentially came from nothing. 00:09:33.70\00:09:35.40 But at the end of the day, 00:09:35.44\00:09:36.77 it just is 00:09:36.81\00:09:38.14 versus the second true aspect of reality, 00:09:38.17\00:09:41.98 which is where we fall in line is that, 00:09:42.01\00:09:43.85 you know what? 00:09:43.88\00:09:45.21 There's a divine being that created it all. 00:09:45.25\00:09:47.08 There's a divine intelligence behind it all. 00:09:47.12\00:09:50.59 And there are several biblical texts. 00:09:50.62\00:09:52.39 This is where we kind of get into what we believe 00:09:52.42\00:09:54.09 to be the correct biblical worldview. 00:09:54.12\00:09:56.19 We have to go to the Word of God 00:09:56.22\00:09:57.56 and ask ourselves, 00:09:57.59\00:09:58.93 what does the Bible say 00:09:58.96\00:10:00.30 and how can we today as Christians, 00:10:00.33\00:10:01.66 as believers fit our thinking 00:10:01.70\00:10:03.93 and our understanding in harmony 00:10:03.97\00:10:05.63 with what we know to be the biblical worldview. 00:10:05.67\00:10:07.60 And there's a few texts that I believe 00:10:07.64\00:10:08.97 help us line this idea out. 00:10:09.00\00:10:10.97 Psalm 53:1, you got to start there. 00:10:11.01\00:10:13.07 Okay? 00:10:13.11\00:10:14.44 Let's just make this clear from God's perspective, 00:10:14.48\00:10:16.58 from the divine perspective. 00:10:16.61\00:10:18.35 Psalm 53:1 says, 00:10:18.38\00:10:20.72 "The fool has said in his heart, 00:10:20.75\00:10:23.62 there is no God." 00:10:23.65\00:10:26.09 Okay, so let's just start there. 00:10:26.12\00:10:27.86 "The fool has said in his heart, there is no God." 00:10:27.89\00:10:30.73 Yet we live in a reality. 00:10:30.76\00:10:33.86 Pastor Lomacang knows this very much 00:10:33.90\00:10:35.90 as we get out into the world today, 00:10:35.93\00:10:38.37 and we begin to do evangelism, 00:10:38.40\00:10:39.73 you're going to meet many, 00:10:39.77\00:10:41.10 many more people around the world. 00:10:41.14\00:10:42.54 Some of the ideas that come out of some people's minds 00:10:42.57\00:10:45.21 is just amazing to me. 00:10:45.24\00:10:46.68 And more and more from the atheistic perspective, 00:10:46.71\00:10:50.01 more and more from the questioning, 00:10:50.05\00:10:52.21 the skeptic mind 00:10:52.25\00:10:53.95 of where did everything come from 00:10:53.98\00:10:55.52 and there's got to be an answer for everything, 00:10:55.55\00:10:57.82 and at the end of the day it leads someone to question 00:10:57.85\00:11:00.66 even the very reality as we have clearly seen 00:11:00.69\00:11:03.26 that we are living in. 00:11:03.29\00:11:04.86 Proverbs15:3, this is another one. 00:11:04.89\00:11:07.60 And this is actually our memory text for the week. 00:11:07.63\00:11:10.63 "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, 00:11:10.67\00:11:13.27 keeping watch on the evil and the good." 00:11:13.30\00:11:15.84 So this is looking into the omniscience 00:11:15.87\00:11:18.74 and the all powerfulness of God, 00:11:18.77\00:11:21.91 the all knowingness of God. 00:11:21.94\00:11:23.41 God knows all, He sees all. 00:11:23.45\00:11:26.58 And so, there is a reality 00:11:26.61\00:11:28.85 in which God the divine being created all. 00:11:28.88\00:11:32.12 He knows all. 00:11:32.15\00:11:33.49 There's an intelligence behind creation 00:11:33.52\00:11:34.92 and that's what the biblical worldview teaches. 00:11:34.96\00:11:37.36 John 3:16. 00:11:37.39\00:11:39.13 Now this is where we get into more 00:11:39.16\00:11:40.93 of a spiritual aspect of the biblical worldview, 00:11:40.96\00:11:44.13 because we're not talking about just some random, 00:11:44.17\00:11:46.74 all powerful being that's out there, 00:11:46.77\00:11:48.34 we're talking about a real being 00:11:48.37\00:11:50.24 that has real feelings 00:11:50.27\00:11:51.61 that actually is much different than the way 00:11:51.64\00:11:53.94 the world portrays them. 00:11:53.98\00:11:56.01 Notice John 3:16, "For God so," 00:11:56.04\00:11:58.51 that's an interesting word 00:11:58.55\00:12:00.45 to use in reference to a divine being. 00:12:00.48\00:12:05.25 "For God so loved the world 00:12:05.29\00:12:07.56 that He gave His only begotten Son, 00:12:07.59\00:12:09.42 that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, 00:12:09.46\00:12:11.96 but have everlasting life." 00:12:11.99\00:12:13.33 God loves. 00:12:13.36\00:12:14.83 I grew up in school, 00:12:14.86\00:12:16.20 or going to school 00:12:16.23\00:12:17.57 I grew up hearing year after year, 00:12:17.60\00:12:20.34 they taught this Greek mythology, 00:12:20.37\00:12:21.87 Roman mythology. 00:12:21.90\00:12:23.27 And the idea that these gods, 00:12:23.30\00:12:25.77 you know, they're just these all powerful beings, 00:12:25.81\00:12:28.14 and they all have different attributes 00:12:28.18\00:12:30.21 and different powers. 00:12:30.25\00:12:31.58 But the one thing 00:12:31.61\00:12:32.95 that was consistent with them all is that 00:12:32.98\00:12:34.62 they really could care less 00:12:34.65\00:12:36.38 if they had any interaction 00:12:36.42\00:12:38.25 or any connection with the human world, 00:12:38.29\00:12:41.52 or the lesser world of the humans. 00:12:41.56\00:12:43.26 And so, you would, 00:12:43.29\00:12:44.63 the common thing you see in Greek mythology 00:12:44.66\00:12:46.03 and even, you know, 00:12:46.06\00:12:47.53 these polytheistic religions around the world 00:12:47.56\00:12:51.57 where they serve many, many gods is this aspect 00:12:51.60\00:12:53.57 that there's the gods, they're out there, 00:12:53.60\00:12:55.44 and then there's us, 00:12:55.47\00:12:56.81 and they really could care less about us. 00:12:56.84\00:12:58.61 In fact, many of them waged war against the humans. 00:12:58.64\00:13:01.24 They tried to wipe out and destroy humankind. 00:13:01.28\00:13:03.98 But yet, 00:13:04.01\00:13:05.35 Christianity is different in the sense that right here, 00:13:05.38\00:13:07.52 the biblical worldview of who God is, 00:13:07.55\00:13:09.85 He's not just some divine God up there in the heavens, 00:13:09.88\00:13:13.05 sitting on a cloud with a, you know, 00:13:13.09\00:13:15.02 powerful lightning bolt in His hand 00:13:15.06\00:13:16.46 waiting to just fry the earth, 00:13:16.49\00:13:18.19 as you might see in the story of Zeus 00:13:18.23\00:13:19.89 and some of these other ones. 00:13:19.93\00:13:21.33 But the Bible says that 00:13:21.36\00:13:22.70 God so loved and that's strange, right? 00:13:22.73\00:13:26.00 Isaiah 45:21, 00:13:26.03\00:13:27.67 "Tell and bring forth your case. 00:13:27.70\00:13:29.57 Yes, let them take counsel together, 00:13:29.60\00:13:32.21 who has declared this from ancient time, 00:13:32.24\00:13:35.14 who has told it from that time, have not either Lord, 00:13:35.18\00:13:39.11 and there is," 00:13:39.15\00:13:40.48 he says, "have not I, the Lord, 00:13:40.52\00:13:42.85 and there is no other God besides me, 00:13:42.88\00:13:44.85 a just God and a savior, 00:13:44.89\00:13:47.56 there is none besides me." 00:13:47.59\00:13:49.32 We serve a savior. 00:13:49.36\00:13:50.73 So the biblical worldview, 00:13:50.76\00:13:52.53 we have to also consider that 00:13:52.56\00:13:53.90 not only is God the divine creator of all, 00:13:53.93\00:13:56.60 and that there's a divine intelligence behind creation, 00:13:56.63\00:13:59.53 but also it's very, very important 00:13:59.57\00:14:02.10 that we understand who God is. 00:14:02.14\00:14:04.17 And I think that's very, very powerful. 00:14:04.21\00:14:06.07 And I have run out of my time, 00:14:06.11\00:14:08.44 but I just want to make this clear 00:14:08.48\00:14:09.81 in the last few seconds that I have here. 00:14:09.84\00:14:11.81 Christians have a responsibility 00:14:11.85\00:14:13.52 to make God who the Bible says that He is. 00:14:13.55\00:14:17.12 To really communicate who God is from a biblical perspective, 00:14:17.15\00:14:20.56 because many of us are getting in trouble 00:14:20.59\00:14:22.22 in presenting God 00:14:22.26\00:14:23.59 to be someone that He is not 00:14:23.63\00:14:24.96 and it messes up the worldview of who God is. 00:14:24.99\00:14:28.53 Amen. 00:14:28.56\00:14:30.03 Powerful lesson, Ryan. 00:14:30.07\00:14:31.40 Thank you so much. 00:14:31.43\00:14:32.77 Beautiful foundation for the biblical worldview 00:14:32.80\00:14:34.54 and who God is. 00:14:34.57\00:14:36.20 On Monday, we have "Leibniz's Question." 00:14:36.24\00:14:39.34 Now, I hope I pronounced his name correctly. 00:14:39.37\00:14:41.54 Gofried Wilhelm Leibniz was a German philosopher, 00:14:41.58\00:14:46.18 logician and mathematician of the enlightenment. 00:14:46.21\00:14:49.12 He lived from 1646-1716. 00:14:49.15\00:14:52.85 And his question, 00:14:52.89\00:14:54.82 this is part of his argument for the existence of God. 00:14:54.86\00:14:58.53 His question is simply this, 00:14:58.56\00:15:00.33 "Why is there something rather than nothing?" 00:15:00.36\00:15:04.07 That's the question for Monday's lesson. 00:15:04.10\00:15:06.60 Why is there something rather than nothing? 00:15:06.63\00:15:11.17 He says, 00:15:11.21\00:15:12.54 "The sufficient reason is found in the substance 00:15:12.57\00:15:16.04 which is a necessary being burying the reason 00:15:16.08\00:15:19.81 for its existence within itself, 00:15:19.85\00:15:22.05 meaning God has the reason for existence within Himself. 00:15:22.08\00:15:26.79 Why is there something rather than nothing? 00:15:26.82\00:15:30.06 This is the fundamental question of metaphysics. 00:15:30.09\00:15:32.99 Metaphysics, of course, 00:15:33.03\00:15:34.36 is that branch of philosophy 00:15:34.40\00:15:35.80 that examines the fundamental nature of reality, 00:15:35.83\00:15:38.80 which is what you talked about reality, 00:15:38.83\00:15:40.90 including the relationship between mind and matter, 00:15:40.94\00:15:43.57 and substance and attribute, and potentiality and actuality. 00:15:43.61\00:15:47.41 So why is there something rather than nothing? 00:15:47.44\00:15:51.35 This provides the setting for our lesson, 00:15:51.38\00:15:53.52 which is all about creation. 00:15:53.55\00:15:55.78 Looking at creation, 00:15:55.82\00:15:57.62 go with me to Genesis Chapter 1, 00:15:57.65\00:15:59.65 as our biblical worldview, 00:15:59.69\00:16:01.56 the lens through which we view the world. 00:16:01.59\00:16:04.93 There's four points I want to make. 00:16:04.96\00:16:06.49 First, God created something out of nothing. 00:16:06.53\00:16:10.97 Genesis 1:1. 00:16:11.00\00:16:12.33 That's right. 00:16:12.37\00:16:13.70 "In the beginning, 00:16:13.74\00:16:15.07 God created the heavens and the earth." 00:16:15.10\00:16:18.44 The existence of God is simply assumed, 00:16:18.47\00:16:20.84 no explanation for His existence is given, 00:16:20.88\00:16:23.48 no reason for His origin. 00:16:23.51\00:16:25.61 God is simply given. 00:16:25.65\00:16:27.42 In the beginning, God, God did what? 00:16:27.45\00:16:30.79 God created. 00:16:30.82\00:16:32.89 That word created in Hebrew, I love that word Bara. 00:16:32.92\00:16:37.53 The verb is used only when God is the subject. 00:16:37.56\00:16:40.60 God created. 00:16:40.63\00:16:42.66 And it's always linked to divine creative activity. 00:16:42.70\00:16:47.14 Here it's used of God's ability 00:16:47.17\00:16:48.67 to create something out of nothing. 00:16:48.70\00:16:52.21 It reminds me of Hebrews 11:3, 00:16:52.24\00:16:55.28 Paul says, "By faith, 00:16:55.31\00:16:56.98 we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, 00:16:57.01\00:17:01.15 so that the things which are seen 00:17:01.18\00:17:02.95 were not made of things which are visible." 00:17:02.98\00:17:05.65 It means that 00:17:05.69\00:17:07.22 God made something out of nothing. 00:17:07.26\00:17:10.13 By what? 00:17:10.16\00:17:11.49 By the Word of God. 00:17:11.53\00:17:13.19 In the beginning, God, in contrast to atheism, 00:17:13.23\00:17:17.47 created alone, in contrast to polytheism, 00:17:17.50\00:17:21.74 He rules over creation, in contrast to pantheism. 00:17:21.77\00:17:27.04 Matter had a beginning, as opposed to materialism. 00:17:27.08\00:17:31.08 And the ultimate reality is God, 00:17:31.11\00:17:33.82 not humanity. 00:17:33.85\00:17:35.52 So point number one 00:17:35.55\00:17:36.89 is God created something out of nothing. 00:17:36.92\00:17:39.39 Point number two, God spoke, and it came into existence. 00:17:39.42\00:17:43.69 That's right. 00:17:43.73\00:17:45.06 Genesis 1:3, what did God say? 00:17:45.09\00:17:47.30 God said, "Let there be light and," what happened? 00:17:47.33\00:17:49.73 "And there was light." 00:17:49.76\00:17:51.93 The phrase God said 00:17:51.97\00:17:53.37 appears nine times in Genesis Chapter 1. 00:17:53.40\00:17:57.57 God spoke and the worlds were framed 00:17:57.61\00:17:59.87 and things came into existence. 00:17:59.91\00:18:03.01 It reminds me of Psalm 33. 00:18:03.04\00:18:04.95 Let's jump over there. 00:18:04.98\00:18:06.31 Psalm 33:6-9, "By the," what's that? 00:18:06.35\00:18:11.39 "The word of the Lord, where the heavens made, 00:18:11.42\00:18:14.49 and the host of them by the breath of His mouth, 00:18:14.52\00:18:17.86 He spoke, and it was done. 00:18:17.89\00:18:20.23 He commanded, and it stood fast." 00:18:20.26\00:18:23.00 By the word of the Lord, God spoke, and things happened. 00:18:23.03\00:18:27.14 Light happened 00:18:27.17\00:18:28.50 and plants and animals and trees and flowers, 00:18:28.54\00:18:31.84 you and I, God formed us and created us, 00:18:31.87\00:18:35.08 but everything else in creation, 00:18:35.11\00:18:36.64 God spoke, and it was done. 00:18:36.68\00:18:40.08 Point number three, 00:18:40.12\00:18:41.45 all three persons of the Godhead, 00:18:41.48\00:18:44.05 Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were involved in creation. 00:18:44.09\00:18:49.39 Genesis 1:1, we already read that scripture, 00:18:49.42\00:18:51.63 it clearly tells us God's involved in creation. 00:18:51.66\00:18:54.46 "In the beginning, who? 00:18:54.50\00:18:56.03 "God created the heavens and the earth." 00:18:56.06\00:19:00.34 But some people say, 00:19:00.37\00:19:01.70 "Well, God was involved, but Jesus was not involved." 00:19:01.74\00:19:04.24 He most certainly was involved. 00:19:04.27\00:19:07.04 John 1, I love that, 00:19:07.08\00:19:08.64 that comparison between Genesis 1 and John 1. 00:19:08.68\00:19:11.81 John 1:1, 00:19:11.85\00:19:13.21 "In the beginning was the Word, 00:19:13.25\00:19:14.98 and the Word was with God, 00:19:15.02\00:19:16.52 and the Word was God." 00:19:16.55\00:19:18.15 Now who in the world is the Word? 00:19:18.19\00:19:20.22 The Word is the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:19:20.26\00:19:22.72 John 1:14, "The Word was made flesh, 00:19:22.76\00:19:25.59 and dwelt among us." 00:19:25.63\00:19:28.43 In the beginning was the Word, 00:19:28.46\00:19:29.80 meaning Jesus preexisted from all eternity, 00:19:29.83\00:19:33.10 "and the Word was with God," 00:19:33.13\00:19:34.47 meaning Jesus is divine, 00:19:34.50\00:19:36.77 "and the Word was God," 00:19:36.81\00:19:38.71 Father, Son together in the beginning. 00:19:38.74\00:19:41.34 Verse 3, John 1:3, 00:19:41.38\00:19:43.81 "All things were made through Him, 00:19:43.85\00:19:47.12 and without Him, 00:19:47.15\00:19:48.48 nothing was made that was made." 00:19:48.52\00:19:50.92 That tells me that everything that happened in creation, 00:19:50.95\00:19:54.39 Jesus was involved in 00:19:54.42\00:19:56.16 and had an integral part in that creation. 00:19:56.19\00:20:00.06 Ephesians 3:9, 00:20:00.10\00:20:02.06 and to make all see 00:20:02.10\00:20:03.43 what is the fellowship of the mystery, 00:20:03.47\00:20:05.23 which from the beginning of the ages 00:20:05.27\00:20:06.87 has been hidden in God, 00:20:06.90\00:20:08.74 who created all things through Jesus Christ. 00:20:08.77\00:20:13.48 God is the agent of creation, 00:20:13.51\00:20:15.08 but Jesus is the one who actually made that happen. 00:20:15.11\00:20:18.98 Created the worlds through Jesus Christ. 00:20:19.01\00:20:21.42 And as if that isn't enough, 00:20:21.45\00:20:22.88 Hebrews 1:2 tells us the same thing. 00:20:22.92\00:20:25.62 "God has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, 00:20:25.65\00:20:29.26 whom He's appointed heir to all things 00:20:29.29\00:20:31.83 through whom also He made the worlds." 00:20:31.86\00:20:35.43 Now the Holy Spirit was present at creation as well. 00:20:35.46\00:20:39.87 Genesis 1:2, 00:20:39.90\00:20:41.34 "This earth was without form and void, 00:20:41.37\00:20:43.91 and darkness was upon the face of the deep, 00:20:43.94\00:20:46.57 and the Spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters." 00:20:46.61\00:20:51.48 Job talks about it as well in Job 26:13. 00:20:51.51\00:20:54.25 He says, "By His Spirit, He adorned the heavens." 00:20:54.28\00:20:59.29 Now point number four, 00:20:59.32\00:21:01.16 God created this world in six literal days. 00:21:01.19\00:21:06.76 That is an important world view. 00:21:06.80\00:21:10.40 We can have the worldview that God created. 00:21:10.43\00:21:12.67 We can have the worldview 00:21:12.70\00:21:14.04 that God created something out of nothing. 00:21:14.07\00:21:15.97 We can have the world view 00:21:16.00\00:21:17.34 that God the Father, Son, 00:21:17.37\00:21:18.71 and Holy Spirit were involved in creation. 00:21:18.74\00:21:20.68 But if we do not have the worldview 00:21:20.71\00:21:22.88 that God created this earth in six literal days, 00:21:22.91\00:21:26.61 there comes a problem with our theology 00:21:26.65\00:21:29.32 as we go throughout the Word of God. 00:21:29.35\00:21:32.42 Let's look at that, 00:21:32.45\00:21:33.79 God's creation in these six literal days. 00:21:33.82\00:21:36.93 I see first in Genesis 1:5, 00:21:36.96\00:21:39.13 God's reference to evening and morning being a day. 00:21:39.16\00:21:44.53 He references that, Genesis 1:5, what does he say? 00:21:44.57\00:21:47.10 God called the light day, 00:21:47.14\00:21:49.10 and the darkness He called night. 00:21:49.14\00:21:51.51 So the evening and the morning were the first day. 00:21:51.54\00:21:55.94 And Hebrew, it reads literally, 00:21:55.98\00:21:58.01 evening was, morning was day one. 00:21:58.05\00:22:01.98 Now that's pretty clear. Would you say that's clear? 00:22:02.02\00:22:03.99 That's 24-hour period. 00:22:04.02\00:22:05.72 Evening was, morning was day one. 00:22:05.75\00:22:08.99 If you were to translate into English, you'd say, 00:22:09.02\00:22:10.76 and there was evening, and there was morning, one day. 00:22:10.79\00:22:14.16 It says the same thing. 00:22:14.20\00:22:16.87 In fact, the New Living Translation, 00:22:16.90\00:22:18.43 which we don't usually quote from, 00:22:18.47\00:22:19.80 but it says, 00:22:19.83\00:22:21.17 "An evening past 00:22:21.20\00:22:22.54 and morning came marking the first day." 00:22:22.57\00:22:26.21 We know that the Jews understood this. 00:22:26.24\00:22:28.21 If you look in Leviticus 23:32, 00:22:28.24\00:22:32.01 the Jews calculated a day from sunset to sunset, 00:22:32.05\00:22:36.05 the same way that we keep the Sabbath. 00:22:36.08\00:22:38.65 From evening to evening, 00:22:38.69\00:22:40.46 you shall celebrate your Sabbath. 00:22:40.49\00:22:42.82 We can also look at the use of the Hebrew word for day. 00:22:42.86\00:22:45.93 Now that word for day in Hebrew is yom, 00:22:45.96\00:22:48.56 and it's used for two different things. 00:22:48.60\00:22:51.30 Sometimes it's used for literal 24-hour period, 00:22:51.33\00:22:54.20 which we believe how it's used in the creation account. 00:22:54.24\00:22:56.81 Other times it could be used 00:22:56.84\00:22:58.34 for an indefinite period of time. 00:22:58.37\00:23:01.04 But when that noun yom, 00:23:01.08\00:23:03.14 this word for day appears in the Old Testament, 00:23:03.18\00:23:06.48 when it's used with a numeral, 00:23:06.51\00:23:08.25 it always refers to a literal 24-hour period of time, 00:23:08.28\00:23:12.09 which is in the creation account. 00:23:12.12\00:23:13.96 It's always connected with a certain day, 00:23:13.99\00:23:15.66 day one of creation, or day two, or day three. 00:23:15.69\00:23:18.89 You also think about the interaction 00:23:18.93\00:23:20.60 as it were between the days of creation 00:23:20.63\00:23:23.73 What I mean by that is the plants and vegetation 00:23:23.77\00:23:27.17 were created on day three. 00:23:27.20\00:23:28.64 Now if plants were created, and it was eons of time, 00:23:28.67\00:23:32.41 until the light was created 00:23:32.44\00:23:34.98 until not light, 00:23:35.01\00:23:36.38 but until the sun, moon and stars were created, 00:23:36.41\00:23:38.81 you would have a problem if there was eons of time. 00:23:38.85\00:23:42.38 That's how you get photosynthesis? 00:23:42.42\00:23:44.25 And how would plants survive? 00:23:44.29\00:23:45.65 And how would anything survive 00:23:45.69\00:23:47.02 without the sun for eons of time? 00:23:47.06\00:23:49.72 The other reason is that we see the link 00:23:49.76\00:23:52.29 between the fourth commandment, the seventh day Sabbath, 00:23:52.33\00:23:56.83 and a literal six-day creation week, 00:23:56.87\00:24:00.34 that link's clearly seen in Exodus 20, 00:24:00.37\00:24:03.20 the fourth commandment. 00:24:03.24\00:24:04.57 Exodus 20:8-11. 00:24:04.61\00:24:06.41 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:24:06.44\00:24:08.74 "Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 00:24:08.78\00:24:11.91 but the seventh day is the Sabbath 00:24:11.95\00:24:13.28 of the Lord your God. 00:24:13.31\00:24:14.68 In it, you shall not do any work. 00:24:14.72\00:24:16.99 You nor your son nor your daughter," 00:24:17.02\00:24:18.59 it goes on, we jump down to verse 11. 00:24:18.62\00:24:21.06 It says, "For in six days, 00:24:21.09\00:24:23.39 the Lord made heavens and the earth, 00:24:23.43\00:24:25.79 the sea and all that in them is and rested the seventh day. 00:24:25.83\00:24:30.40 Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day 00:24:30.43\00:24:32.80 and hallowed it." 00:24:32.83\00:24:34.17 We see here the connection between the six days 00:24:34.20\00:24:36.60 in which we are to work, 00:24:36.64\00:24:38.11 the six days of, six literal days of creation, 00:24:38.14\00:24:42.04 and the seventh day 00:24:42.08\00:24:43.85 that God blessed and sanctified, 00:24:43.88\00:24:46.41 set apart and made holy. 00:24:46.45\00:24:48.92 We see that, of course, in the Garden of Eden, 00:24:48.95\00:24:50.55 Genesis 2 when God finished to the end of His creative work 00:24:50.59\00:24:54.19 those six literal days of creation, 00:24:54.22\00:24:56.89 and the seventh day He blessed and sanctified it. 00:24:56.93\00:25:00.76 So why is there something rather than nothing? 00:25:00.80\00:25:05.40 It's because in the beginning 00:25:05.43\00:25:07.64 God existed from all eternity 00:25:07.67\00:25:10.74 created the heavens and the earth. 00:25:10.77\00:25:14.04 Amen. 00:25:14.08\00:25:15.44 Praise the Lord. Thank you so much. 00:25:15.48\00:25:17.08 That was powerful. 00:25:17.11\00:25:18.45 You're always very thorough 00:25:18.48\00:25:19.81 and as I'm watching your notes there, 00:25:19.85\00:25:21.18 it's like, man, you've got so much to talk about. 00:25:21.22\00:25:23.15 But that was a blessing. 00:25:23.18\00:25:24.65 My friends, we're going to take a short break, 00:25:24.69\00:25:26.76 we'll be back in just a moment. Everyone is biased. 00:27:47.90\00:27:50.37 Everyone has a bias to something. 00:27:50.40\00:27:53.90 So when people say have an open mind, 00:27:53.94\00:27:56.30 that open mind is filtered by that person's worldview. 00:27:56.34\00:28:01.11 If we say how fast was he, 00:28:01.14\00:28:03.55 and I heard this example, 00:28:03.58\00:28:05.41 somebody talked about a snail versus a rabbit. 00:28:05.45\00:28:10.69 And they said, 00:28:10.72\00:28:12.05 the snail said that rabbit was fast, 00:28:12.09\00:28:14.12 then somebody else compared a car to a bicycle 00:28:14.16\00:28:17.23 and said that car was fast. 00:28:17.26\00:28:20.23 Then somebody else compared a Cessna 152 to a fighter jet 00:28:20.26\00:28:24.73 and they said that jet was fast. 00:28:24.77\00:28:27.27 You notice each of the comparisons, 00:28:27.30\00:28:29.20 somebody compared 00:28:29.24\00:28:30.57 a high school runner to Usain Bolt. 00:28:30.61\00:28:33.71 And they said he was fast. 00:28:33.74\00:28:35.61 So it all depends on the comparison, 00:28:35.64\00:28:37.45 what you're comparing it to. 00:28:37.48\00:28:39.35 So what I like to, what I like to dive into, 00:28:39.38\00:28:41.82 is I like to use the gospels 00:28:41.85\00:28:43.35 in the comparison of the worldview. 00:28:43.39\00:28:45.49 A lot of people read the Bible 00:28:45.52\00:28:46.86 for the purpose of using it too, 00:28:46.89\00:28:49.42 as a tool to argue with Christians and they say, 00:28:49.46\00:28:52.93 well, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John 00:28:52.96\00:28:54.56 don't always jive together, 00:28:54.60\00:28:56.16 they have some differences. 00:28:56.20\00:28:57.83 Well, consider the thought 00:28:57.87\00:28:59.50 before I get into the lesson, consider the following thought. 00:28:59.53\00:29:03.30 You're standing on one of the four corners 00:29:03.34\00:29:05.31 where an accident occurs, and a large crowd gathers. 00:29:05.34\00:29:09.91 And what is pertinent to the person 00:29:09.94\00:29:12.28 who was injured in the accident, 00:29:12.31\00:29:14.25 and the person who was involved in the accident. 00:29:14.28\00:29:16.72 In America, we use this phrase alleged, 00:29:16.75\00:29:19.32 we say alleged. 00:29:19.35\00:29:20.69 And in other words, until it's proven it's alleged. 00:29:20.72\00:29:23.29 But sometimes that irritates me, 00:29:23.32\00:29:24.66 because you know, 00:29:24.69\00:29:26.03 you can see a video of a guy 00:29:26.06\00:29:27.40 mowing down people with a machine gun. 00:29:27.43\00:29:28.76 And they say he allegedly shot them 00:29:28.80\00:29:30.13 and I thought, 00:29:30.17\00:29:31.50 "Well, did he have a stand-in, that's him." 00:29:31.53\00:29:33.30 So you get what I'm saying. 00:29:33.34\00:29:34.70 Now, now, my worldview goes now to places like Dubai 00:29:34.74\00:29:39.94 or Abu Dhabi, 00:29:39.97\00:29:41.31 where in the very same context, 00:29:41.34\00:29:43.75 this is a kind of a crude illustration, 00:29:43.78\00:29:45.78 but it was on the news, 00:29:45.81\00:29:47.25 where a person with an extreme view 00:29:47.28\00:29:51.59 took the life of an American school teacher 00:29:51.62\00:29:53.62 in a female's bathroom in the airport. 00:29:53.66\00:29:56.83 And there were only two people in the bathroom 00:29:56.86\00:29:58.63 and they saw this person coming out, 00:29:58.66\00:30:00.00 the camera's caught the face of the person. 00:30:00.03\00:30:02.36 They didn't use the word 00:30:02.40\00:30:03.73 she allegedly took that person's life. 00:30:03.77\00:30:05.40 They said, "We got a video." 00:30:05.43\00:30:07.20 And she was hung three days later. 00:30:07.24\00:30:09.77 No due process. 00:30:09.80\00:30:11.57 What a difference in worldview? 00:30:11.61\00:30:13.78 So when we went over to Dubai, 00:30:13.81\00:30:15.71 my wife was told, 00:30:15.74\00:30:17.15 leave your pocketbook on the table. 00:30:17.18\00:30:18.61 We were in a huge massive restaurant, 00:30:18.65\00:30:20.58 leave it right there. 00:30:20.62\00:30:21.95 My wife said, but my, 00:30:21.98\00:30:23.32 but all my bill, they said it's fine. 00:30:23.35\00:30:25.02 Leave it right there. 00:30:25.05\00:30:26.39 We went in a restaurant, there were hundreds of people. 00:30:26.42\00:30:28.09 She said, "Leave it at the table. 00:30:28.12\00:30:29.46 Let's go to the bar and get our food." 00:30:29.49\00:30:31.53 She said, 00:30:31.56\00:30:32.89 "Believe me, leave it there, nobody will touch it." 00:30:32.93\00:30:35.06 Wow. 00:30:35.10\00:30:36.43 And no one touched it. 00:30:36.46\00:30:38.20 She said, "In this country, if you steal something, 00:30:38.23\00:30:40.74 your hand is cut off. 00:30:40.77\00:30:42.97 In this country, 00:30:43.00\00:30:44.34 people take crimes seriously." 00:30:44.37\00:30:46.74 In America, they allegedly took her purse. 00:30:46.78\00:30:49.64 In Dubai or in Middle East, Oh, we got you on video, 00:30:49.68\00:30:53.35 three days later, 00:30:53.38\00:30:54.72 you won't be able to wave goodbye any longer. 00:30:54.75\00:30:57.25 Not to make light of that. 00:30:57.29\00:30:58.69 But the worldview of justice is quite different 00:30:58.72\00:31:01.19 when you think about the world. 00:31:01.22\00:31:02.72 They literally think of an eye for an eye, 00:31:02.76\00:31:04.69 a tooth for a tooth. 00:31:04.73\00:31:06.06 So they said it's one of the safest societies 00:31:06.09\00:31:08.23 in the world for women. 00:31:08.26\00:31:10.07 A woman could walk the street, 00:31:10.10\00:31:11.87 and nobody would even considered bothering her 00:31:11.90\00:31:14.17 because they are thinking of the consequences. 00:31:14.20\00:31:16.54 What a difference in worldview as compared to America. 00:31:16.57\00:31:19.17 Now sometimes we think, 00:31:19.21\00:31:20.54 well, we wouldn't mind having some of that. 00:31:20.58\00:31:23.45 But then again, boy, 00:31:23.48\00:31:24.81 it'll really turn our world upside down. 00:31:24.85\00:31:27.22 So when we think about worldview, 00:31:27.25\00:31:28.58 let's go to the Book of Jonah. 00:31:28.62\00:31:29.95 I want to show you something and I'm kind of diving 00:31:29.98\00:31:32.42 in a completely different direction than the writer. 00:31:32.45\00:31:35.72 Because these questions 00:31:35.76\00:31:37.09 that are asked in the context of Jonah Chapter 1 00:31:37.13\00:31:40.23 are very pertinent 00:31:40.26\00:31:41.86 to developing a person's worldview. 00:31:41.90\00:31:44.30 Now we know the story, 00:31:44.33\00:31:45.67 Jonah was told to go to Nineveh, 00:31:45.70\00:31:47.80 he went to Tarshish instead. 00:31:47.84\00:31:50.04 He went to the opposite direction, 00:31:50.07\00:31:52.37 turbulence hit, 00:31:52.41\00:31:53.81 the mariners couldn't control the ship, 00:31:53.84\00:31:56.08 the passengers knew something was wrong. 00:31:56.11\00:31:59.18 And we start now verses 7 to 9. 00:31:59.21\00:32:01.98 And if you follow the story, Jonah went down, he went down, 00:32:02.02\00:32:05.55 he went down, he went down. 00:32:05.59\00:32:07.56 The life of a person running from the Lord. 00:32:07.59\00:32:10.29 But now verse 7, 00:32:10.33\00:32:11.99 "And they said to one another," 00:32:12.03\00:32:13.93 trying to figure out 00:32:13.96\00:32:15.30 why the ship is in such disrepair, 00:32:15.33\00:32:17.57 "Come, let us cast lots 00:32:17.60\00:32:19.67 that we may know 00:32:19.70\00:32:21.10 for who's caused this trouble has come to us." 00:32:21.14\00:32:24.64 So they cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. 00:32:24.67\00:32:29.08 Then they said to him, 00:32:29.11\00:32:30.55 'Please tell us 00:32:30.58\00:32:32.18 for whose cause is this trouble upon us?'" 00:32:32.21\00:32:36.32 Now, notice the questions. 00:32:36.35\00:32:37.69 These are all worldview questions. 00:32:37.72\00:32:39.95 "What is your occupation?" 00:32:39.99\00:32:41.69 Okay. 00:32:41.72\00:32:43.06 Second one, "Where do you come from?" 00:32:43.09\00:32:46.26 Third, "What is your country?" 00:32:46.29\00:32:49.23 Fourth, "And of what people are you?" 00:32:49.26\00:32:53.34 And his sheepish disobedient response, 00:32:53.37\00:32:56.54 "I am a Hebrew and I fear the Lord, 00:32:56.57\00:32:59.51 the God of heaven, 00:32:59.54\00:33:00.88 who made the sea and the dry land." 00:33:00.91\00:33:02.61 If that's in fact the case, Jonah, 00:33:02.64\00:33:04.65 why are you going in the opposite direction? 00:33:04.68\00:33:07.32 Not a good time to testify 00:33:07.35\00:33:08.68 about your relationship with the Lord 00:33:08.72\00:33:10.05 when you're in club, partying. 00:33:10.09\00:33:12.75 Or when you are at a magazine stand 00:33:12.79\00:33:14.16 looking at what you shouldn't 00:33:14.19\00:33:16.32 or when you're buying something that has alcohol in it 00:33:16.36\00:33:19.26 and the person next to you says, 00:33:19.29\00:33:20.63 "I watch you on 3ABN." 00:33:20.66\00:33:22.66 Now that hasn't happened, 00:33:22.70\00:33:24.03 just want to make that point very quick. 00:33:24.07\00:33:26.23 But I noticed I was in a store. 00:33:26.27\00:33:29.34 This is years ago in California, 00:33:29.37\00:33:31.07 I had on a cap, I had dark sunglasses, 00:33:31.11\00:33:33.01 I had on shorts. 00:33:33.04\00:33:34.38 It was a Sunday, long before 3ABN, 00:33:34.41\00:33:36.41 but I've been on television on TBN with Heritage Singers, 00:33:36.44\00:33:38.95 and somebody said, "Hey, is that you?" 00:33:38.98\00:33:41.25 And I turned around startlingly, they said, 00:33:41.28\00:33:43.39 "Hey, I watch you with Heritage." 00:33:43.42\00:33:44.89 And I said to my wife, 00:33:44.92\00:33:46.25 you know, now, our slogan is we cannot dis... 00:33:46.29\00:33:49.46 We can't be disobedient anywhere in the world 00:33:49.49\00:33:52.99 because you never know 00:33:53.03\00:33:54.36 we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. 00:33:54.40\00:33:56.83 So when you think about that, 00:33:56.87\00:33:59.87 think about the questions asked to Jonah. 00:33:59.90\00:34:02.94 And that when you begin to answer these questions, 00:34:02.97\00:34:05.17 you begin to understand the impact of your life 00:34:05.21\00:34:07.74 on a world stage. 00:34:07.78\00:34:09.44 Because Jonah's life, what is your occupation? 00:34:09.48\00:34:13.11 I know years ago, 00:34:13.15\00:34:14.48 the question was asked to a pastor on an airplane, 00:34:14.52\00:34:16.42 what do you do? 00:34:16.45\00:34:17.79 And he said to the person, 00:34:17.82\00:34:19.15 "Hey, I'm a motivational speaker." 00:34:19.19\00:34:22.72 What he didn't know, 00:34:22.76\00:34:24.09 well, that person was going to the same place he went, 00:34:24.13\00:34:25.79 and they both ended up at a camp meeting. 00:34:25.83\00:34:28.16 And that lady who was not a Christian said, 00:34:28.20\00:34:31.30 I saw him on the plane. 00:34:31.33\00:34:32.67 He told me he was a motivational speaker, 00:34:32.70\00:34:34.04 but he's a pastor. 00:34:34.07\00:34:35.40 What is your occupation? 00:34:35.44\00:34:36.77 Are you a Christian all the time? 00:34:36.81\00:34:39.37 Are you a Christian all the time? 00:34:39.41\00:34:41.51 When you think about our responsibility, 00:34:41.54\00:34:43.35 I can't be a pastor only when I'm in a church. 00:34:43.38\00:34:46.15 I've got to be a pastor all the time. 00:34:46.18\00:34:48.52 So I'm challenging you as a person who is a Christian. 00:34:48.55\00:34:52.75 Most of you watching are Christians, 00:34:52.79\00:34:54.62 many of you watching our Seventh-day Adventists. 00:34:54.66\00:34:56.69 You must understand 00:34:56.73\00:34:58.06 your position mindset of who you are all the time 00:34:58.09\00:35:01.70 must be applicable to the witness 00:35:01.73\00:35:04.43 that you give of Christ 00:35:04.47\00:35:05.80 because the way that you demonstrate 00:35:05.83\00:35:08.70 would affect people's worldview about your occupation. 00:35:08.74\00:35:12.47 The other one, where do you come from? 00:35:12.51\00:35:13.84 Now, this is a very challenging one, 00:35:13.88\00:35:15.21 because West Indian people, 00:35:15.24\00:35:17.05 I know that if you say to a person 00:35:17.08\00:35:18.41 that's from Jamaica, 00:35:18.45\00:35:19.78 they're from Trinidad, it's an offense. 00:35:19.81\00:35:21.15 Or you from Puerto Rico and they're from Spain, 00:35:21.18\00:35:23.52 it's an offense. 00:35:23.55\00:35:24.89 People look at where they're from 00:35:24.92\00:35:26.55 as highly a thing of pride, 00:35:26.59\00:35:29.99 but the Christian must look at where they're headed. 00:35:30.03\00:35:32.89 So that shapes my worldview 00:35:32.93\00:35:34.66 more than where I'm from 00:35:34.70\00:35:36.03 because as you can tell, 00:35:36.06\00:35:37.40 I go to the Virgin Islands 00:35:37.43\00:35:38.77 and come back with a tan like this. 00:35:38.80\00:35:40.30 And many, many shades darker 00:35:40.34\00:35:41.67 and people think I'm from India, 00:35:41.70\00:35:43.71 as somebody once said, "Is your husband from India?" 00:35:43.74\00:35:46.61 No. 00:35:46.64\00:35:47.98 "Well, what is he?" 00:35:48.01\00:35:49.34 And my wife went through the litany. 00:35:49.38\00:35:50.71 He's Filipino, white, black and Native American. 00:35:50.75\00:35:53.28 They said, "Never mind." 00:35:53.31\00:35:55.48 But my worldview is, I am a Christian, 00:35:55.52\00:35:57.55 Where am I from is not as important as where I'm headed. 00:35:57.59\00:36:00.02 The third one, what is your country? 00:36:00.06\00:36:01.92 As a Christian, the answer is very simple. 00:36:01.96\00:36:04.73 My citizenship is in heaven, but my location is on earth. 00:36:04.76\00:36:10.80 So when we consider our citizenship, 00:36:10.83\00:36:12.83 once again, it affects our worldview. 00:36:12.87\00:36:14.90 That means we should be Christians 00:36:14.94\00:36:16.27 wherever we are, 00:36:16.30\00:36:18.14 and we never know who is watching. 00:36:18.17\00:36:20.21 So make sure that you're representing 00:36:20.24\00:36:21.98 the citizenship of the kingdom 00:36:22.01\00:36:23.55 where you're headed 00:36:23.58\00:36:24.91 rather than where you came from. 00:36:24.95\00:36:26.55 And also finally, what people are you? 00:36:26.58\00:36:29.38 What people am I? 00:36:29.42\00:36:30.79 I am a Seventh-day Adventist Christian. 00:36:30.82\00:36:32.79 Now I take that with a sense of spirit. 00:36:32.82\00:36:35.69 Is there such thing as spiritual pride? 00:36:35.72\00:36:37.66 Be careful. 00:36:37.69\00:36:39.03 Be careful, that's a tightrope. 00:36:39.06\00:36:41.76 Maybe I should say appreciation. 00:36:41.80\00:36:44.47 Appreciating the foundation of my spiritual conviction 00:36:44.50\00:36:49.70 allows me to appreciate everyone else's conviction, 00:36:49.74\00:36:52.47 because Jesus says your worldview affects 00:36:52.51\00:36:55.14 how you communicate with others. 00:36:55.18\00:36:57.05 Other sheep I have that are not of your fold. 00:36:57.08\00:37:00.18 So keep that in mind 00:37:00.22\00:37:01.68 when you represent the Christ of what people you are of? 00:37:01.72\00:37:05.19 Shelley. 00:37:05.22\00:37:06.55 Amen. Thank you. 00:37:06.59\00:37:07.92 You know, I was thinking 00:37:07.96\00:37:09.29 as you were talking about this comparison, 00:37:09.32\00:37:11.96 part of our problem, even as Christians, 00:37:11.99\00:37:15.00 is that we have been infiltrated 00:37:15.03\00:37:19.27 with Greek thinking, 00:37:19.30\00:37:21.64 you know, we're trying to prove something. 00:37:21.67\00:37:24.14 This book, the Bible is a Hebrew document primarily. 00:37:24.17\00:37:29.74 So Hebrews, you know, 00:37:29.78\00:37:32.41 when it starts off in the beginning, 00:37:32.45\00:37:34.38 God, it just tells it assumes God existed, 00:37:34.42\00:37:38.69 doesn't try to prove that He existed. 00:37:38.72\00:37:41.66 But the first 11 chapters of Genesis 00:37:41.69\00:37:46.56 cover 2, 000 years of history, 00:37:46.59\00:37:49.73 but then the next 39 cover 150 years of history, 00:37:49.76\00:37:56.10 heavily weighted toward the Abrahamic Covenant. 00:37:56.14\00:38:00.64 So this is a book of covenant. 00:38:00.68\00:38:03.98 And, boy, our worldview, 00:38:04.01\00:38:05.78 if we don't look at this from a Hebrew perspective, 00:38:05.81\00:38:10.22 we're going to miss a lot. 00:38:10.25\00:38:11.59 Now, I have Wednesday's "Worship the Redeemer." 00:38:11.62\00:38:15.12 Jill, you covered pretty well, 00:38:15.16\00:38:16.52 we were supposed to cover John 1:1-14, 00:38:16.56\00:38:20.70 "In the beginning was the Word," was. 00:38:20.73\00:38:23.57 He was eternal, "and the Word was with God, " 00:38:23.60\00:38:27.34 that means He was distinct from God. 00:38:27.37\00:38:30.41 You've got two persons of the Godhead right there, 00:38:30.44\00:38:33.21 "and the Word was God," 00:38:33.24\00:38:35.94 He is divine, He always has been, 00:38:35.98\00:38:38.68 "the Word became flesh, and He dwelt among us." 00:38:38.71\00:38:43.08 I want to take you to Philippians 2:5-8, 00:38:43.12\00:38:46.79 because if we think about worshiping the Redeemer, 00:38:46.82\00:38:51.79 we've got to recognize who this Redeemer is. 00:38:51.83\00:38:56.16 Jill did such a beautiful job 00:38:56.20\00:38:58.90 of covering Him as creator. 00:38:58.93\00:39:03.51 There are people even in the Christian world 00:39:03.54\00:39:07.01 who think of Jesus, 00:39:07.04\00:39:11.18 the person of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, 00:39:11.21\00:39:14.12 they think of the Son of God, almost in a secondary sense, 00:39:14.15\00:39:18.05 like there is priority. 00:39:18.09\00:39:19.75 God the Father, God the Son, maybe then the Holy Spirit. 00:39:19.79\00:39:23.56 But let's look at this, Philippians 2:5, 00:39:23.59\00:39:26.59 "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, 00:39:26.63\00:39:32.17 who being in the form of God," 00:39:32.20\00:39:35.04 and the word there in the Greek 00:39:35.07\00:39:36.97 for form denotes an essential, 00:39:37.01\00:39:40.64 unchanging character of something. 00:39:40.68\00:39:44.01 So Paul's right here saying, 00:39:44.05\00:39:45.58 hey, Jesus eternally has been God. 00:39:45.61\00:39:49.28 He said He did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 00:39:49.32\00:39:54.36 because He was God. 00:39:54.39\00:39:56.16 "But He made himself of no reputation 00:39:56.19\00:39:58.09 taking the form of a bond servant 00:39:58.13\00:40:00.93 coming in the likeness of men 00:40:00.96\00:40:02.86 and being found in the appearance of a man, 00:40:02.90\00:40:05.20 He humbled Himself 00:40:05.23\00:40:06.57 and became obedient to the point of death, 00:40:06.60\00:40:09.64 even the death of the cross." 00:40:09.67\00:40:13.81 Jesus Christ crucified, 00:40:13.84\00:40:17.31 resurrected is at the center of all we believe, 00:40:17.35\00:40:21.75 so it's important for us 00:40:21.78\00:40:24.52 to understand the Triune Godhead. 00:40:24.55\00:40:28.99 To me when we say, 1 John 4:8, 1 John 4:16 says, 00:40:29.02\00:40:33.70 "God is love." 00:40:33.73\00:40:35.06 This is the essence of His being. 00:40:35.10\00:40:38.10 But you know, 00:40:38.13\00:40:39.47 to love you have to have a recipient of love. 00:40:39.50\00:40:42.24 If God were just... 00:40:42.27\00:40:44.41 We don't believe that it's God, 00:40:44.44\00:40:47.24 one plus one plus one that would equal three, 00:40:47.28\00:40:50.25 but it's God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, 00:40:50.28\00:40:54.52 one times one times one, one cubed, 00:40:54.55\00:40:58.65 one to the third power, 00:40:58.69\00:41:00.86 and His presence is in the cube. 00:41:00.89\00:41:03.22 Think of the Holy of Holies was a cube, 00:41:03.26\00:41:06.19 that the New Jerusalem coming down is a cube. 00:41:06.23\00:41:10.03 So to me that's excited to understand 00:41:10.07\00:41:14.80 that God came down to become the Son of Man, 00:41:14.84\00:41:20.84 to become the Son of God. 00:41:20.88\00:41:24.48 It was God who went to the cross. 00:41:24.51\00:41:26.95 Why should we worship our Redeemer? 00:41:26.98\00:41:29.35 He is our Creator. 00:41:29.38\00:41:32.39 Matthew 1:23 00:41:32.42\00:41:35.12 repeats the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14. 00:41:35.16\00:41:40.80 Says, "Behold, 00:41:40.83\00:41:42.26 the virgin shall be with child and bear a Son, 00:41:42.30\00:41:44.37 they shall call his name Immanuel," 00:41:44.40\00:41:48.77 which is translated God with us. 00:41:48.80\00:41:53.44 It was God, 00:41:53.48\00:41:55.58 who came to earth to become a man. 00:41:55.61\00:41:59.11 Hebrews 1:8 says, 00:41:59.15\00:42:01.52 "To the Son, He says, "Your throne, " 00:42:01.55\00:42:05.65 this is the Father speaking to the Son, 00:42:05.69\00:42:08.52 interesting language, 00:42:08.56\00:42:10.09 "Your throne, O God is forever and ever," 00:42:10.13\00:42:15.90 speaking to the Son. 00:42:15.93\00:42:18.37 You see, our Creator became our Redeemer, 00:42:18.40\00:42:23.81 and He paid the price 00:42:23.84\00:42:26.51 to free us from the bondage of sin. 00:42:26.54\00:42:31.51 What happens according, I love this scripture. 00:42:31.55\00:42:34.38 Now that I've done more study on it, I really, 00:42:34.42\00:42:37.29 1 Corinthians 15:45. 00:42:37.32\00:42:40.66 1 Corinthians 15:45 00:42:40.69\00:42:44.09 will help us understand the person of Jesus Christ. 00:42:44.13\00:42:50.13 It says, 00:42:50.17\00:42:51.77 "The first man, Adam, became a living being. 00:42:51.80\00:42:56.97 The last Adam is a life, became a life-giving spirit." 00:42:57.01\00:43:03.38 It's wrong to call Jesus the second Adam. 00:43:03.41\00:43:06.41 He's the last Adam. 00:43:06.45\00:43:08.75 See, it is this covenant language. 00:43:08.78\00:43:14.69 Adam was called the Son of God. 00:43:14.72\00:43:19.49 When God came down to become the Son of Man, 00:43:19.53\00:43:22.70 when He was incarnated, born of a woman, 00:43:22.73\00:43:26.27 He became the Son of Man, and the Son of God. 00:43:26.30\00:43:30.11 He was the last Adam. 00:43:30.14\00:43:32.77 The covenant is all about 00:43:32.81\00:43:35.38 a succession of covenant sons. 00:43:35.41\00:43:41.18 When we think of the words, the Son of God, as I said, 00:43:41.22\00:43:46.79 Adam is called the Son of God, 00:43:46.82\00:43:48.52 David was referred to as the Son of God, 00:43:48.56\00:43:51.79 the Son of God is a covenant term. 00:43:51.83\00:43:55.13 So God in the person of Jesus Christ 00:43:55.16\00:44:01.60 became the Son of God as the second, 00:44:01.64\00:44:05.14 the last Adam, excuse me. 00:44:05.17\00:44:08.31 When we use the word firstborn, 00:44:08.34\00:44:12.98 in the covenant language 00:44:13.01\00:44:15.62 it doesn't necessarily mean 00:44:15.65\00:44:18.15 the order of a chronological order of your birth. 00:44:18.19\00:44:23.73 As a matter of fact, in Exodus 4:22, 00:44:23.76\00:44:27.56 let's look there. 00:44:27.60\00:44:29.53 Exodus 4:22, 00:44:29.56\00:44:31.83 this is God speaking, and he says, 00:44:31.87\00:44:36.30 "You shall say to Pharaoh, thus says the Lord, 00:44:36.34\00:44:42.38 'Israel is my son.'" What? 00:44:42.41\00:44:46.31 This is covenant language. 00:44:46.35\00:44:48.38 Israel was the Son of God, 00:44:48.42\00:44:50.65 he says, "My first born." 00:44:50.69\00:44:54.52 See, firstborn just simply means 00:44:54.56\00:44:58.46 it's the channel 00:44:58.49\00:44:59.89 through which covenant blessings 00:44:59.93\00:45:01.96 are going to pass. 00:45:02.00\00:45:03.37 Israel wasn't the first nation. 00:45:03.40\00:45:06.13 But God chose them for a covenant purpose. 00:45:06.17\00:45:09.70 Look at Deuteronomy 32:18. 00:45:09.74\00:45:13.78 And the reason I'm wanting to stress this, 00:45:13.81\00:45:16.54 I hope I don't confuse you. 00:45:16.58\00:45:18.51 This is just to introduce you to this concept. 00:45:18.55\00:45:23.05 But in Deuteronomy 32:18, God says of Israel, 00:45:23.08\00:45:29.39 or speaking of God, He says, 00:45:29.42\00:45:31.39 "Of the rock, who begot you, " 00:45:31.43\00:45:37.37 begotten, yes, the word can mean 00:45:37.40\00:45:40.54 that you've given birth to a child. 00:45:40.57\00:45:44.17 But in covenant language, 00:45:44.21\00:45:46.51 when it is used, did God give birth to Israel? 00:45:46.54\00:45:50.55 No, it means they're set apart 00:45:50.58\00:45:54.25 for a covenant purpose. 00:45:54.28\00:45:57.59 So when it's talking about Jesus being when He said, 00:45:57.62\00:46:01.36 the Lord said to Him, 00:46:01.39\00:46:02.72 "Today, I have begotten you." 00:46:02.76\00:46:06.66 The important point is to remember, 00:46:06.70\00:46:09.86 it was God, who went to the cross for us. 00:46:09.90\00:46:14.14 It wasn't some secondary situation here. 00:46:14.17\00:46:20.41 1 Timothy 3:16 says, 00:46:20.44\00:46:22.04 "Great is the mystery of godliness, 00:46:22.08\00:46:24.18 God was manifested in the flesh, 00:46:24.21\00:46:27.02 justified in the spirit, 00:46:27.05\00:46:28.95 preached among the Gentiles, believed in the world, 00:46:28.98\00:46:31.55 and received up in glory." 00:46:31.59\00:46:35.32 He is the eternal person, 00:46:35.36\00:46:37.63 the second person of the Godhead, 00:46:37.66\00:46:40.30 who became the last Adam and died for us. 00:46:40.33\00:46:43.77 I think that is amazing. 00:46:43.80\00:46:45.47 Now, let's... We want to tie that in. 00:46:45.50\00:46:49.20 And I really didn't have much of a chance 00:46:49.24\00:46:51.01 to look at the lesson for Thursday. 00:46:51.04\00:46:53.98 But the Thursday's lesson 00:46:54.01\00:46:57.01 is talking about the law of God. 00:46:57.05\00:46:58.98 Let's begin with Exodus 3:2. 00:46:59.01\00:47:02.95 Just turn in your Bibles to Exodus, 00:47:02.98\00:47:05.95 I hope I can get where I want to go with this, 00:47:05.99\00:47:09.49 but Exodus 3:2 says this, 00:47:09.52\00:47:15.53 "The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame," 00:47:15.56\00:47:18.33 to Moses, 00:47:18.37\00:47:19.70 "in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush, 00:47:19.73\00:47:21.74 and he looked, and behold, 00:47:21.77\00:47:23.54 the bush was burning with fire." 00:47:23.57\00:47:25.61 The angel of the Lord, 00:47:25.64\00:47:26.98 the word angel there means messenger. 00:47:27.01\00:47:29.98 It means, who's in this burning bush? 00:47:30.01\00:47:33.98 Take off your shoes, you're on holy ground. 00:47:34.02\00:47:36.52 This is God. 00:47:36.55\00:47:38.69 This is Jesus Christ, who is in the burning bush, 00:47:38.72\00:47:42.92 the angel of the Lord. 00:47:42.96\00:47:45.46 Now, also, we know that if you turn to... 00:47:45.49\00:47:49.60 I've got, I did write a note down 00:47:49.63\00:47:51.40 somewhere here real quickly. 00:47:51.43\00:47:53.60 If you turn to Exodus 19:4, 00:47:53.64\00:47:59.24 let's turn there. 00:47:59.27\00:48:01.48 In Exodus 19:4, I love this verse. 00:48:01.51\00:48:05.61 God says, 00:48:05.65\00:48:06.98 "You have seen what I did to the Egyptians 00:48:07.02\00:48:10.95 and how I bore you on eagle's wings 00:48:10.99\00:48:13.59 and brought you to Myself." 00:48:13.62\00:48:15.86 This is covenant love language. 00:48:15.89\00:48:18.86 God had already redeemed them from Egypt. 00:48:18.89\00:48:24.07 He had already brought them out, 00:48:24.10\00:48:26.03 He had saved them, 00:48:26.07\00:48:27.40 they come through the Red Sea. 00:48:27.44\00:48:29.20 Now they've come to that He's telling them, 00:48:29.24\00:48:31.94 "Gather before Me on Mount Sinai," 00:48:31.97\00:48:33.84 and what does God do? 00:48:33.88\00:48:35.21 He comes down with shocking awe. 00:48:35.24\00:48:38.45 Pyrotechnics, there's fire, there's smoke. 00:48:38.48\00:48:41.42 He's going to show them, they've forgotten who He is, 00:48:41.45\00:48:44.95 that He is good, 00:48:44.99\00:48:46.32 that He is just, that He is holy. 00:48:46.35\00:48:48.46 And when He speaks His Ten Commandments, 00:48:48.49\00:48:51.06 it's not in that tone of thou shalt not. 00:48:51.09\00:48:54.86 I'm sure, the voice of the Lord, 00:48:54.90\00:48:56.80 they say is like many rushing waters. 00:48:56.83\00:49:00.67 But these are 10 promises. 00:49:00.70\00:49:02.94 He's going to show them His love. 00:49:02.97\00:49:05.67 And on the first tablet, He's saying to them, 00:49:05.71\00:49:08.51 hey, when you're in covenant relationship with Me, 00:49:08.54\00:49:12.45 My saved ones, 00:49:12.48\00:49:14.55 you will not have other gods before Me. 00:49:14.58\00:49:17.69 You will not make idols like they did in Egypt. 00:49:17.72\00:49:21.89 You won't bow down to those, you won't take My name in vain. 00:49:21.92\00:49:25.59 You are going to be so excited about the Sabbath, 00:49:25.63\00:49:28.53 you will remember the Sabbath, 00:49:28.56\00:49:30.30 you will come to Me to fellowship, 00:49:30.33\00:49:32.80 you will not, 00:49:32.83\00:49:34.60 you will honor your mother and father, 00:49:34.64\00:49:36.64 you won't murder, you won't commit adultery, 00:49:36.67\00:49:38.61 you won't steal, you won't bear false testimony, 00:49:38.64\00:49:41.64 and you're not going to covet. 00:49:41.68\00:49:44.25 Why? 00:49:44.28\00:49:45.61 Because that's what covenant relationship with Me is like. 00:49:45.65\00:49:49.15 You know, I want you to look at the preamble 00:49:49.18\00:49:52.95 to these Ten Commandments. 00:49:52.99\00:49:54.96 God speaking them, 00:49:54.99\00:49:56.69 He says, "I am the Lord 00:49:56.73\00:49:58.09 your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, 00:49:58.13\00:50:03.20 out of the house of bondage." 00:50:03.23\00:50:05.73 Oh blessed be the name of the Lord. 00:50:05.77\00:50:08.94 He is telling them, "I'm your Savior." 00:50:08.97\00:50:12.37 So they're not going to have to obey 00:50:12.41\00:50:14.04 these Ten Commandments to be saved. 00:50:14.08\00:50:16.91 They're going to obey them 00:50:16.95\00:50:18.28 as an expression of covenant love and loyalty, 00:50:18.31\00:50:22.78 because He's already saved them. 00:50:22.82\00:50:25.15 Now, this is interesting. 00:50:25.19\00:50:27.52 We know that James tells us, James, what is it 2:8, 00:50:27.56\00:50:32.19 that if you break one, you break them all. 00:50:32.23\00:50:34.50 The Ten Commandments are linked together as a body. 00:50:34.53\00:50:40.14 You can't break a chain in the middle 00:50:40.17\00:50:43.24 and still be keeping His commandments. 00:50:43.27\00:50:46.71 So let's look at the fourth commandment 00:50:46.74\00:50:48.74 because the very one that God's says, 00:50:48.78\00:50:51.91 remember, it's the one everybody forgets. 00:50:51.95\00:50:54.72 In commandment number four, this is Exodus 20:8. 00:50:54.75\00:50:59.09 This is the longest commandment. 00:50:59.12\00:51:01.82 He says, 00:51:01.86\00:51:03.19 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:51:03.22\00:51:05.26 Six days you shall labor," 00:51:05.29\00:51:07.06 some people need to hear that, 00:51:07.10\00:51:08.86 "six days you shall labor and do all your work, 00:51:08.90\00:51:11.17 but the seventh day is the Sabbath, 00:51:11.20\00:51:14.60 the Lord your God." 00:51:14.64\00:51:16.24 I want to pause, 00:51:16.27\00:51:17.61 Genesis 2:2-3 mentions 00:51:17.64\00:51:21.04 the seventh day three times in creation. 00:51:21.08\00:51:23.55 It says, "God rested on the seventh day, 00:51:23.58\00:51:26.88 God blessed the seventh day, 00:51:26.92\00:51:29.35 God sanctified the seventh day." 00:51:29.38\00:51:32.12 Only God can sanctify a day, 00:51:32.15\00:51:34.92 setting it apart for holy purposes. 00:51:34.96\00:51:37.86 And then He goes on to say, 00:51:37.89\00:51:40.00 "In it, you shall do no work, 00:51:40.03\00:51:42.56 you nor your son, nor your daughter, 00:51:42.60\00:51:44.17 nor your male servant, nor your female servant, 00:51:44.20\00:51:46.84 nor your cattle, nor your stranger 00:51:46.87\00:51:48.80 who was within your gates." 00:51:48.84\00:51:51.57 I remember, I didn't grow up as a Sabbath keeper. 00:51:51.61\00:51:57.05 I was 50 years old 00:51:57.08\00:51:58.61 when God called me to full-time ministry. 00:51:58.65\00:52:01.75 He told me, I'm praying and said, 00:52:01.78\00:52:04.65 "Lord, you got to show me what You want me to teach." 00:52:04.69\00:52:08.12 And you know what 00:52:08.16\00:52:09.49 the Lord impressed on my mind is, 00:52:09.52\00:52:12.16 "Come sit at My feet, I will teach you." 00:52:12.19\00:52:14.26 He started me on the study of the sanctuary. 00:52:14.30\00:52:17.23 I found out His Ten Commandments 00:52:17.27\00:52:18.97 are written on stone inside the ark, 00:52:19.00\00:52:22.10 that meant permanence. 00:52:22.14\00:52:23.81 Then I found out that the book of the covenant, 00:52:23.84\00:52:26.54 all of the rest of those regulations 00:52:26.57\00:52:29.01 in which the Ten Commandments was the heart 00:52:29.04\00:52:31.81 was on the side pocket of the ark. 00:52:31.85\00:52:34.58 And all of a sudden, I'm going, "Oh, 00:52:34.62\00:52:37.22 there's only one commandment that I'm not keeping." 00:52:37.25\00:52:41.42 And I studied the Sabbath commandment. 00:52:41.46\00:52:45.66 I have never been so excited 00:52:45.69\00:52:47.46 the first time that I celebrated a Sabbath. 00:52:47.50\00:52:52.90 The Sabbath is a memorial of God as creator. 00:52:52.93\00:52:56.30 But the one it's a memorial 00:52:56.34\00:52:58.11 that He is the one who is recreating us 00:52:58.14\00:53:00.98 in the image of Jesus. 00:53:01.01\00:53:03.98 It's a memorial that He is our Redeemer, 00:53:04.01\00:53:06.88 that He is our Savior. 00:53:06.92\00:53:08.42 The Sabbath, 00:53:08.45\00:53:09.85 also God says in Exodus 31:13, 00:53:09.88\00:53:14.06 He said, 00:53:14.09\00:53:15.42 "My Sabbath I gave to You as a sign 00:53:15.46\00:53:18.79 that I am the one who sanctifies you." 00:53:18.83\00:53:22.90 If you don't know 00:53:22.93\00:53:24.27 what the word sanctifying means, 00:53:24.30\00:53:26.47 actually, it's a synonym for holy. 00:53:26.50\00:53:29.17 But both of those words 00:53:29.20\00:53:30.77 just mean to be set apart for God. 00:53:30.81\00:53:34.51 So, all of my life, 00:53:34.54\00:53:37.25 I had grown up in a New Testament Church, 00:53:37.28\00:53:40.62 then I had gone into a full gospel type church, 00:53:40.65\00:53:45.39 a non-denominational church. 00:53:45.42\00:53:47.96 But you know what? 00:53:47.99\00:53:49.32 All of my life I performed for God. 00:53:49.36\00:53:53.80 I tried to earn His favor. 00:53:53.83\00:53:56.73 It was not until 00:53:56.77\00:53:59.17 the day that I began celebrating the Sabbath. 00:53:59.20\00:54:03.17 I remember that first Sabbath day. 00:54:03.20\00:54:05.07 As it rolled in, I was just like, 00:54:05.11\00:54:08.81 Lord, thank you that I am not only justified 00:54:08.84\00:54:13.28 by grace through faith, 00:54:13.31\00:54:15.32 but you're the one that is going to sanctify me. 00:54:15.35\00:54:18.49 You're the one as Philippians 2:13 says, 00:54:18.52\00:54:21.39 who is working in me to will 00:54:21.42\00:54:23.02 and to do your good pleasure. 00:54:23.06\00:54:25.13 You are the one as Philippians 1:6 says 00:54:25.16\00:54:27.96 that is going to complete the good work 00:54:28.00\00:54:30.03 You've begun in me. 00:54:30.07\00:54:32.83 You know, I have to say this to my friends out there. 00:54:32.87\00:54:36.47 1 John 3:4 says, 00:54:36.50\00:54:40.74 "Sin is the transgression of the law." 00:54:40.78\00:54:44.38 If God intended to do away with His law, 00:54:44.41\00:54:48.08 if He would have changed His Sabbath day, 00:54:48.12\00:54:50.89 we know that Daniel 7:25 says that 00:54:50.92\00:54:53.96 there is going to be a power 00:54:53.99\00:54:55.39 who thinks to take change times and laws. 00:54:55.42\00:54:59.39 The only time that we find in God's law 00:54:59.43\00:55:01.40 is the Sabbath time. 00:55:01.43\00:55:03.13 But if God intended to do that, 00:55:03.16\00:55:06.07 He would have announced it and He never does. 00:55:06.10\00:55:09.07 The New Testament is the outworking 00:55:09.10\00:55:12.54 of all of God's covenant promises 00:55:12.57\00:55:15.81 and He promises you 00:55:15.84\00:55:19.11 that you will walk in loyalty and obedience, 00:55:19.15\00:55:23.89 if you just understand how much He loves you. 00:55:23.92\00:55:26.86 Amen. Amen. 00:55:26.89\00:55:28.22 Wow! Praise the Lord. That was powerful, Shelley. 00:55:28.26\00:55:30.13 Thank you so much. 00:55:30.16\00:55:31.49 Well, we have just a little over two minutes left. 00:55:31.53\00:55:34.30 Let's get some final thoughts from the panel. 00:55:34.33\00:55:36.33 I had Monday Leibniz's Question, 00:55:36.36\00:55:38.93 "Why is there something rather than nothing?" 00:55:38.97\00:55:41.07 And why is that? 00:55:41.10\00:55:42.44 'Cause in the beginning, God created, 00:55:42.47\00:55:45.24 and He not only created this world, 00:55:45.27\00:55:46.98 but He sent His Son Jesus to die for us 00:55:47.01\00:55:49.61 because He wanted to redeem us 00:55:49.64\00:55:52.45 so that we could spend an eternity with Him. 00:55:52.48\00:55:56.75 Okay. 00:55:56.79\00:55:58.12 And mine was on the biblical worldview. 00:55:58.15\00:56:01.02 When I narrow it down to the biblical worldview, 00:56:01.06\00:56:04.86 I think that is so easy 00:56:04.89\00:56:06.39 when we talk to people 00:56:06.43\00:56:07.76 that may not believe what we believe, 00:56:07.80\00:56:09.50 we can narrow it down to say, 00:56:09.53\00:56:11.33 here's the reality of the biblical worldview, 00:56:11.37\00:56:14.47 as we all are born, 00:56:14.50\00:56:16.17 we all die, and we all need a Savior. 00:56:16.20\00:56:19.31 And when we approach it from that perspective, 00:56:19.34\00:56:22.04 people will begin to see 00:56:22.08\00:56:23.48 that it's not your viewpoint nor your opinion, 00:56:23.51\00:56:25.65 but we are at that beginning point of birth, 00:56:25.68\00:56:28.08 on the same plane, 00:56:28.12\00:56:29.45 and each one of us is in need of a Savior, 00:56:29.48\00:56:30.99 Amen. 00:56:31.02\00:56:32.35 And mine was Wednesday, Worship the Redeemer. 00:56:32.39\00:56:35.16 Why should we worship Him? Because He is our Creator. 00:56:35.19\00:56:38.19 Remember the covenant language, 00:56:38.23\00:56:40.50 when we talk about the Son of God, 00:56:40.53\00:56:42.36 it's the son of the covenant, 00:56:42.40\00:56:43.90 the firstborn is the preeminent, 00:56:43.93\00:56:46.40 it doesn't have anything to do 00:56:46.43\00:56:48.24 in covenant language about the chronology, 00:56:48.27\00:56:51.97 and begotten doesn't mean to be birthed 00:56:52.01\00:56:56.58 but to be set aside for chosen for covenant purposes, 00:56:56.61\00:57:01.38 and then the law of God. 00:57:01.42\00:57:03.52 Oh, this is God's way 00:57:03.55\00:57:05.82 of putting boundaries around us, 00:57:05.85\00:57:08.52 so that we will walk in His blessings 00:57:08.56\00:57:11.49 and avoid sin's consequences. 00:57:11.53\00:57:14.90 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:57:14.93\00:57:16.26 There was a section from Sunday's lessons 00:57:16.30\00:57:17.93 that I didn't get a chance to read, 00:57:17.97\00:57:19.57 but I want to read it now 00:57:19.60\00:57:20.94 because I think it ties everything together. 00:57:20.97\00:57:22.30 It's essential to any Christian education 00:57:22.34\00:57:24.54 is the reality not just of God, 00:57:24.57\00:57:27.38 but of the kind of God that He is. 00:57:27.41\00:57:30.41 A personal God who loves us and who interacts with us. 00:57:30.45\00:57:34.38 And I think that's powerful. 00:57:34.42\00:57:35.98 When we know who God is, 00:57:36.02\00:57:37.39 we have the correct biblical worldview, 00:57:37.42\00:57:40.16 then everything comes together and make sense. 00:57:40.19\00:57:43.16 So thank you so much for joining us this week 00:57:43.19\00:57:45.43 on 3ABN Sabbath School Panel. 00:57:45.46\00:57:46.90 We hope that you join us next week 00:57:46.93\00:57:48.36 for lesson number five, 00:57:48.40\00:57:50.13 "Jesus as the Master Teacher." 00:57:50.17\00:57:53.03 So you have a blessed day 00:57:53.07\00:57:54.44 and we will see you right back here next week. 00:57:54.47\00:57:56.77 God bless. Amen. 00:57:56.81\00:57:58.14
