Amen. 00:03:18.33\00:03:19.66 Praise the Lord. Again, lesson number eight. 00:03:19.69\00:03:22.03 We're gonna go right to the Sabbath 00:03:22.06\00:03:25.03 or the memory text, and then to the Sabbath overview, 00:03:25.07\00:03:27.54 and then go into Sunday's lesson. 00:03:27.57\00:03:29.74 Notice what it says in Matthew 9:36, 00:03:29.77\00:03:32.14 our memory text, says, 00:03:32.17\00:03:34.31 "But when they saw the multitudes, 00:03:34.34\00:03:36.98 He was moved with compassion for them, 00:03:37.01\00:03:40.45 because they were weary and scattered, 00:03:40.48\00:03:43.69 like sheep having no shepherd." 00:03:43.72\00:03:47.32 To me, that's just, it's so powerful 00:03:47.36\00:03:49.49 and so loving when you see that Jesus, 00:03:49.52\00:03:53.50 King of kings and Lord of lords, 00:03:53.53\00:03:54.86 He looked upon the people who were tired and worn out. 00:03:54.90\00:03:57.17 He had compassion on them, and we need to learn 00:03:57.20\00:04:00.10 to have compassion and certainly 00:04:00.14\00:04:01.47 with one with another. 00:04:01.50\00:04:02.84 Sabbath afternoon you go to that part, 00:04:02.87\00:04:04.21 just a couple of thoughts 00:04:04.24\00:04:05.57 I wanna throw out there with you. 00:04:05.61\00:04:06.94 This week's lesson really focuses on, 00:04:06.98\00:04:09.08 at least to me, and brings out 00:04:09.11\00:04:11.11 how much Jesus loves each one of each one of us. 00:04:11.15\00:04:15.88 He ministers to His people, physically, mentally, 00:04:15.92\00:04:19.29 spiritually, in every way possible. 00:04:19.32\00:04:21.82 You know, He saw how much that the people needed 00:04:21.86\00:04:26.36 something that they didn't have. 00:04:26.39\00:04:28.33 And He wanted to draw close to them, 00:04:28.36\00:04:30.87 you know, and as He just, 00:04:30.90\00:04:32.70 I mean, I can picture this in my mind 00:04:32.73\00:04:34.40 as He just walked through the towns or villages, 00:04:34.44\00:04:37.91 there were something special about Jesus, 00:04:37.94\00:04:40.98 that was something that drew people 00:04:41.01\00:04:43.41 and I know was a Spirit of Living God 00:04:43.45\00:04:45.21 living in Him, and it just drew people. 00:04:45.25\00:04:48.12 And they were drawn to Him. 00:04:48.15\00:04:50.59 And I think this is good when we talk about 00:04:50.62\00:04:52.42 Ministering Like Jesus is because if you have 00:04:52.45\00:04:54.96 the Spirit of the Living God inside you coming out, 00:04:54.99\00:04:58.73 people want to listen to what you have to say. 00:04:58.76\00:05:02.16 They're drawn to that and they want to know. 00:05:02.20\00:05:05.47 Ministry of Healing, page 143, makes this comment, 00:05:05.50\00:05:09.37 Christ method. 00:05:09.40\00:05:10.91 I like this, "Christ method will give true success 00:05:10.94\00:05:13.94 in reaching the people." 00:05:13.98\00:05:16.68 Notice, and "Then He bade them, 'Follow Me.'" 00:05:16.71\00:05:21.25 In my notes here I put then, then, then. 00:05:21.28\00:05:26.29 Does that make sense to anybody else, 00:05:26.32\00:05:27.66 is that okay to do that? 00:05:27.69\00:05:29.12 Then, then, then because let's notice, 00:05:29.16\00:05:30.93 Christ's method, right? 00:05:30.96\00:05:33.26 Alone will give true success of reaching the people. 00:05:33.29\00:05:37.47 So when the people are using Christ's method, 00:05:37.50\00:05:40.64 then, then you say Jesus said, "Then follow Me." 00:05:40.67\00:05:45.27 I mean, that's wonderful thing about follow Him. 00:05:45.31\00:05:47.21 So Jesus, generally number one, 00:05:47.24\00:05:48.98 we found our lesson 00:05:49.01\00:05:50.35 He generally cares for His people. 00:05:50.38\00:05:51.71 There's no doubt about it. 00:05:51.75\00:05:53.08 He healed all manner of diseases, 00:05:53.11\00:05:56.15 raised the dead, cast out demons, 00:05:56.18\00:05:58.75 He fed the hungry, 00:05:58.79\00:06:00.12 He met the needs and cared for the needy, 00:06:00.16\00:06:02.22 every aspect He was working in behalf of mankind. 00:06:02.26\00:06:06.56 He never did seem like anything for Himself, 00:06:06.59\00:06:08.63 He is always for someone else. 00:06:08.66\00:06:11.63 And I think something good that will help us 00:06:11.67\00:06:13.23 when we're talking about Ministering Like Jesus 00:06:13.27\00:06:15.34 is that as He, maybe we could use the word mingled, 00:06:15.37\00:06:19.24 as He mingled with the people. 00:06:19.27\00:06:22.08 All of a sudden, He desired, they're good and they knew it. 00:06:22.11\00:06:25.95 They recognized it, that Jesus desired their good. 00:06:25.98\00:06:29.48 And when you're working with other people, 00:06:29.52\00:06:30.89 they need to know that you care about them. 00:06:30.92\00:06:33.42 You could give them all you want of the Bible, 00:06:33.46\00:06:35.22 give them all the truths as you say, as we want, 00:06:35.26\00:06:37.76 but unless they know you really care for them, 00:06:37.79\00:06:39.69 and that you have a love for Jesus, 00:06:39.73\00:06:41.33 they're not really interested, they're not going to accept it. 00:06:41.36\00:06:44.13 Oh, He showed sympathy, and He won their confidence, 00:06:44.17\00:06:48.14 and then He said, you know, then He said, "Follow Me." 00:06:48.17\00:06:51.77 Important point. 00:06:51.81\00:06:53.17 I got this out of the lesson, 00:06:53.21\00:06:54.54 may not get anything else out of it, 00:06:54.58\00:06:55.91 but I sure got this one I thought was really good. 00:06:55.94\00:06:58.18 Jesus recognized in this world 00:06:58.21\00:07:01.08 that there needed to be a demonstration of the gospel, 00:07:01.12\00:07:06.29 a demonstration of a gospel 00:07:06.32\00:07:07.86 as much as the gospel needed to be preached. 00:07:07.89\00:07:11.26 A demonstration, Jesus came to do what? 00:07:11.29\00:07:13.19 To demonstrate, to show us. 00:07:13.23\00:07:16.70 So a life live for others 00:07:16.73\00:07:19.33 is powerful witness to the world. 00:07:19.37\00:07:22.27 You know, we talk about the words that we speak. 00:07:22.30\00:07:25.07 So think about it, life live for others. 00:07:25.11\00:07:29.44 How's your life? How's my life today? 00:07:29.48\00:07:31.01 Is it really, we're talking about, you know, 00:07:31.05\00:07:32.38 we're living for other Sunday's lesson quickly? 00:07:32.41\00:07:34.38 Jesus attitude toward people just exactly 00:07:34.42\00:07:36.65 what we were already talking about 00:07:36.69\00:07:38.15 here is attitude toward other. 00:07:38.19\00:07:40.16 What kind of attitude did he have? 00:07:40.19\00:07:42.66 John 8:12. 00:07:42.69\00:07:44.83 Jesus said, "I am the light of the world." 00:07:44.86\00:07:48.50 We talk about every lesson 00:07:48.53\00:07:49.86 I think is brought out somewhere along the line, 00:07:49.90\00:07:51.73 that Jesus is the light of the world. 00:07:51.77\00:07:53.74 There is no other light on the world 00:07:53.77\00:07:55.10 as far as we concerned as Christians, 00:07:55.14\00:07:56.84 Jesus is the light, the spiritual light, 00:07:56.87\00:07:59.44 "He that followeth me shall not," I like that, 00:07:59.47\00:08:03.01 "not walk in darkness, 00:08:03.04\00:08:04.51 but shall have the light of life." 00:08:04.55\00:08:08.35 Light shines bright in darkness. 00:08:08.38\00:08:13.66 You know, I really don't appreciate. 00:08:13.69\00:08:15.02 I don't appreciate. 00:08:15.06\00:08:16.39 Okay, I don't appreciate the flashlight until it's dark. 00:08:16.42\00:08:20.46 You know, you have one you'd rather just assume 00:08:20.50\00:08:22.76 as it gets dark what do you say? 00:08:22.80\00:08:24.33 The power goes out, 00:08:24.37\00:08:25.70 which it does quite often around here, right? 00:08:25.73\00:08:27.07 So as soon as it goes out, 00:08:27.10\00:08:28.44 honey, where's the flashlight, why? 00:08:28.47\00:08:30.01 Because I wanna see, because I need light 00:08:30.04\00:08:31.97 because if there's no light there, 00:08:32.01\00:08:33.34 I'm gonna stumble, I'm gonna fall, 00:08:33.38\00:08:34.71 something's going to happen. 00:08:34.74\00:08:36.08 And so, you know, we need that light 00:08:36.11\00:08:37.71 and it doesn't take a whole lot of light, right? 00:08:37.75\00:08:41.08 It takes a light to dispel the darkness. 00:08:41.12\00:08:43.79 We wanna get rid of that darkness. 00:08:43.82\00:08:46.62 And I thought was this. Light does not avoid darkness. 00:08:46.65\00:08:51.53 It's just food for thought, 00:08:51.56\00:08:52.89 light doesn't avoid darkness or separate from darkness. 00:08:52.93\00:08:56.87 Now what's the point spiritually here? 00:08:56.90\00:08:58.77 We have to be careful as Christians 00:08:58.80\00:09:00.14 that we don't avoid the dark places. 00:09:00.17\00:09:03.54 There's people who live in dark places as it were, 00:09:03.57\00:09:06.01 you know, in their heart, in their mind, in their life, 00:09:06.04\00:09:07.81 they need the light. 00:09:07.84\00:09:09.18 Why? 00:09:09.21\00:09:10.55 My Lord and Savior said in Luke 19:10, you know, 00:09:10.58\00:09:13.18 well he said what? 00:09:13.21\00:09:14.58 "He came to seek 00:09:14.62\00:09:16.12 and to save that which was lost." 00:09:16.15\00:09:19.35 He had to deal with darkness, 00:09:19.39\00:09:21.32 things that were going on in the world, 00:09:21.36\00:09:23.32 but when light comes, darkness is, just disappears. 00:09:23.36\00:09:28.36 We are to shine in this dark world, 00:09:28.40\00:09:30.83 I've learned that in this lesson. 00:09:30.87\00:09:32.20 We are to shine. 00:09:32.23\00:09:33.60 Shine like jewel, shine like a light, 00:09:33.64\00:09:35.54 shine like there's a lighthouse. 00:09:35.57\00:09:38.91 Right on the hilltop, that overlooks live sea, 00:09:38.94\00:09:42.88 so we need to be a lighthouse in this old dark world. 00:09:42.91\00:09:46.21 And simply lighthouse is the light, 00:09:46.25\00:09:48.18 we lead others to Jesus Christ is light of the world. 00:09:48.22\00:09:51.92 And Jesus says this in John 1:4, he said, 00:09:51.95\00:09:55.02 "In him was," notice, "life and," what? 00:09:55.06\00:09:58.26 "And the life was the light of men." 00:09:58.29\00:10:01.56 And many times this has been said, 00:10:01.60\00:10:03.10 certainly we talked about light 00:10:03.13\00:10:04.47 who could just pass by Psalms 119:105. 00:10:04.50\00:10:07.90 It has been said many times that 00:10:07.94\00:10:09.27 "The word is," what? 00:10:09.30\00:10:10.64 "Is a lamp unto my feet, and a," what? 00:10:10.67\00:10:12.84 "A light unto my path." 00:10:12.87\00:10:14.68 Jesus was ministering and speaking in Luke 4:18. 00:10:14.71\00:10:19.11 I wanna hit on this because I think 00:10:19.15\00:10:21.48 maybe this applies to all of us. 00:10:21.52\00:10:22.88 I think it should 00:10:22.92\00:10:24.25 because we wanna minister like Jesus, 00:10:24.29\00:10:26.12 and He knew He had a work to do. 00:10:26.15\00:10:28.62 He was sent here for a purpose. There was a reason. 00:10:28.66\00:10:31.29 Luke 4:18, he said, 00:10:31.33\00:10:33.80 "The Spirit of the Lord is," where? 00:10:33.83\00:10:35.16 Upon me. 00:10:35.20\00:10:36.53 He said, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, 00:10:36.56\00:10:37.90 because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel." 00:10:37.93\00:10:42.04 So now what we all should be doing. 00:10:42.07\00:10:44.47 "To the poor, he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, 00:10:44.51\00:10:49.04 to preach deliverance to the captives, 00:10:49.08\00:10:52.41 recover the sight," and we're talking about 00:10:52.45\00:10:54.18 spiritual more than anything else and he did both, 00:10:54.22\00:10:56.85 "sight to the blind, to set at liberty," 00:10:56.89\00:10:59.89 notice, "them that are bruised." 00:10:59.92\00:11:02.92 Is there anyone bruise today? Has anyone been bruised? 00:11:02.96\00:11:06.70 You know, how you need special attention. 00:11:06.73\00:11:08.26 Jesus says He came to heal that, 00:11:08.30\00:11:10.30 He came to help you, and to preach 00:11:10.33\00:11:12.37 the acceptable year of the Lord. 00:11:12.40\00:11:15.54 We can turn that I think that to bring it forth 00:11:15.57\00:11:18.04 that we realize that we're in the end of time. 00:11:18.07\00:11:20.38 There's a message we need to be giving. 00:11:20.41\00:11:21.88 There is a time that Jesus is soon to come 00:11:21.91\00:11:24.28 and we need to be letting people in on that 00:11:24.31\00:11:26.58 He soon to come and we need to be 00:11:26.61\00:11:28.05 ready for that. 00:11:28.08\00:11:29.42 You know what a challenge to minister the way that 00:11:29.45\00:11:31.45 Jesus ministered as He passed 00:11:31.49\00:11:34.16 just to and fro upon His mission of mercy. 00:11:34.19\00:11:37.29 This is found in Review and Herald, 00:11:37.33\00:11:38.66 jot it down quickly. 00:11:38.69\00:11:40.03 Review and Herald 9 and 4, 1900. 00:11:40.06\00:11:43.20 "As he Jesus passed by to and fro upon his mission," 00:11:43.23\00:11:47.64 notice this, "a mission of mercy." 00:11:47.67\00:11:49.30 How many of us really feel like 00:11:49.34\00:11:50.67 when we're doing we're a mission of mercy? 00:11:50.71\00:11:53.78 We ought to help someone. 00:11:53.81\00:11:55.58 We're out to be and I'll say, Oh, Lord, bless me, 00:11:55.61\00:11:57.48 but we're out to be a blessing to someone. 00:11:57.51\00:12:00.38 Lord, make me a blessing to someone today. 00:12:00.42\00:12:03.75 His mission was to heal the sick, 00:12:03.79\00:12:06.76 to lift up the depressed, we live in a depressed world. 00:12:06.79\00:12:10.23 We live and a lot of people 00:12:10.26\00:12:11.59 that maybe it's hard for some reason, 00:12:11.63\00:12:13.33 the millions are depressed every day of their life, 00:12:13.36\00:12:18.23 but notice this that Jesus went about to relieve mercy. 00:12:18.27\00:12:20.74 The King of kings and the Lord of lords walk this earth. 00:12:20.77\00:12:24.14 And notice this article said, 00:12:24.17\00:12:25.51 "Scarce a solitary voice 00:12:25.54\00:12:29.01 called him blessed." 00:12:29.04\00:12:31.95 The King of kings walking this earth. 00:12:31.98\00:12:36.05 He came here to bless mankind with His presence 00:12:36.08\00:12:39.09 to show us the right way, the way to heaven. 00:12:39.12\00:12:42.22 Everything He did was with somebody else in mind. 00:12:42.26\00:12:45.79 He gave His life so that you and I could make it 00:12:45.83\00:12:47.63 to the Kingdom of God. 00:12:47.66\00:12:49.00 And yet there was very few 00:12:49.03\00:12:50.53 that recognized Him as Lord and of Savior. 00:12:50.57\00:12:54.30 He was the fountain of life. 00:12:54.34\00:12:57.67 He was that fountain that we need to drink from. 00:12:57.71\00:13:00.88 I believe today, God's looking for people 00:13:00.91\00:13:04.41 who will make a difference in this dark world. 00:13:04.45\00:13:07.28 There's no doubt about it. Are you making the difference? 00:13:07.32\00:13:11.05 Are we ministering the way Jesus ministered? 00:13:11.09\00:13:14.56 People talk about wealth and the importance of wealth, 00:13:14.59\00:13:17.39 but you know what, I think that the true wealth of this world 00:13:17.43\00:13:20.86 is a committed Christian. 00:13:20.90\00:13:23.06 There's nothing more valuable, a committed Christian 00:13:23.10\00:13:28.40 who unselfishly works for the Savior, 00:13:28.44\00:13:32.37 for the service, in the service of other. 00:13:32.41\00:13:35.04 In our lesson uses, 00:13:35.08\00:13:36.41 we don't have time to go into it, 00:13:36.44\00:13:37.78 but it uses the word salt. 00:13:37.81\00:13:39.15 I like that. 00:13:39.18\00:13:40.52 What is about the salt, something using salt 00:13:40.55\00:13:41.92 is to preserve and to flavor food, 00:13:41.95\00:13:44.59 but salt is a symbol of Christ followers 00:13:44.62\00:13:47.72 used to preserve and flavor mankind. 00:13:47.76\00:13:52.59 I feel like I need to be flavored. 00:13:52.63\00:13:55.76 Me too. I need to be salted. 00:13:55.80\00:13:58.13 Jesus said, you're the salt, 00:13:58.17\00:13:59.50 but if you've lost at Matthew 5, 00:13:59.53\00:14:01.27 if you've lost that salt that way somewhat. 00:14:01.30\00:14:05.37 It says right here good. Here's a word good for nothing. 00:14:05.41\00:14:08.54 By the grace of God, 00:14:08.58\00:14:09.91 we don't wanna good for nothing. 00:14:09.94\00:14:11.28 We wanna be followers of Jesus Christ. 00:14:11.31\00:14:13.01 We wanna be the salt of the earth. 00:14:13.05\00:14:14.38 We wanna be the light 00:14:14.42\00:14:15.75 reflecting light of Jesus Christ 00:14:15.78\00:14:17.29 all over the world. 00:14:17.32\00:14:18.65 We wanna minister the way that Jesus ministered. 00:14:18.69\00:14:20.66 We wanna talk to people the way we need to talk to people. 00:14:20.69\00:14:23.32 We wanna respond to people 00:14:23.36\00:14:24.69 the way we need to respond to people. 00:14:24.73\00:14:27.53 We need to have the hunger in our heart and in our soul 00:14:27.56\00:14:31.50 to see if that person is in the kingdom of God. 00:14:31.53\00:14:33.60 Are you ministering like Jesus today? 00:14:33.64\00:14:36.30 Oh, friend, I encourage you to look at the life of Christ, 00:14:36.34\00:14:39.14 and then pattern yourself after Jesus Christ 00:14:39.17\00:14:42.14 and you will minister the way He ministered. 00:14:42.18\00:14:44.05 Amen. Amen. 00:14:44.08\00:14:45.95 Which you gave me a perfect segue, 00:14:45.98\00:14:47.75 which is "Jesus' Treatment of People." 00:14:47.78\00:14:50.95 You talked about that, 00:14:50.99\00:14:52.32 you talked about salt being flavor, 00:14:52.35\00:14:54.92 but also, salt makes people thirsty 00:14:54.96\00:14:58.69 and we should make people thirsty through Jesus, 00:14:58.73\00:15:02.00 and this lesson fits perfectly the way we treat people. 00:15:02.03\00:15:04.77 Salt should make people thirsty for Christ. 00:15:04.80\00:15:07.40 You know somebody once said you can lead a horse to water, 00:15:07.44\00:15:09.64 but you can't make him drink it. 00:15:09.67\00:15:11.01 Well, nothing is untrue like that. 00:15:11.04\00:15:13.38 You can make him drink. 00:15:13.41\00:15:14.98 If you lead a horse to water 00:15:15.01\00:15:16.54 and just give him one lick of a ball of salt. 00:15:16.58\00:15:19.31 He will drink it. I guarantee you try it. 00:15:19.35\00:15:23.08 If people are standing in front of the water of life 00:15:23.12\00:15:25.45 and they haven't desire to drink it is 00:15:25.49\00:15:28.12 because we have not been the salt 00:15:28.16\00:15:30.09 that the Lord wants us to be. 00:15:30.13\00:15:31.96 Not only to flavor their lives 00:15:31.99\00:15:33.63 and flavor other people's lives, 00:15:33.66\00:15:35.06 but to make them thirsty for Christ. 00:15:35.10\00:15:37.07 This lesson points out the goal of Christ. 00:15:37.10\00:15:39.73 The goal of Christ 00:15:39.77\00:15:41.10 was to bring out the best in people. 00:15:41.14\00:15:43.51 Man, if we live by that principle. 00:15:43.54\00:15:46.01 What kind of world would this be if the Christian, 00:15:46.04\00:15:49.54 even if the Christian church lived with the principle 00:15:49.58\00:15:52.11 of bringing out the best in people? 00:15:52.15\00:15:54.12 How would we communicate differently 00:15:54.15\00:15:56.22 when we gather in our worship services? 00:15:56.25\00:15:58.09 Oh, yeah, wouldn't that be. 00:15:58.12\00:15:59.62 You know, I've had church members that... 00:15:59.65\00:16:03.12 I had one church member 00:16:03.16\00:16:04.49 bought a baseball bat to church. 00:16:04.53\00:16:06.29 And I wish there was a joke 00:16:06.33\00:16:08.46 but I had a person that came to church 00:16:08.50\00:16:10.70 one Sabbath morning very angry 00:16:10.73\00:16:12.13 and she said upon entering the church, not here. 00:16:12.17\00:16:15.80 Do not try to make me happy. 00:16:15.84\00:16:17.61 I'm angry and I'm going to hold on 00:16:17.64\00:16:18.97 to it all services, all service long. 00:16:19.01\00:16:21.48 And I thought to myself, I'm preaching the words of life 00:16:21.51\00:16:23.11 and she's come to church, 00:16:23.14\00:16:24.48 she entered the building determined to hold on 00:16:24.51\00:16:26.58 to her anger the whole service long. 00:16:26.61\00:16:29.95 And I thought to myself did... 00:16:29.98\00:16:32.25 If she was salt, 00:16:32.29\00:16:37.26 that's the kind of salt you throw out. 00:16:37.29\00:16:39.59 I just had to breathe to think about that one. 00:16:39.63\00:16:42.33 But the Gospel of Christ 00:16:42.36\00:16:44.07 was to bring out the best in people. 00:16:44.10\00:16:45.73 Look at Luke's example. 00:16:45.77\00:16:47.50 Luke in John the Baptist and then Jill, 00:16:47.54\00:16:49.97 we're going to bring out six principles 00:16:50.01\00:16:52.57 of how we can bring out the best in people. 00:16:52.61\00:16:55.21 Luke's gospel records the characteristics of Jesus 00:16:55.24\00:16:58.65 and how he was seen by the multitudes. 00:16:58.68\00:17:01.05 Luke 4:22. 00:17:01.08\00:17:02.98 He says, "So all bore witness to Him, 00:17:03.02\00:17:06.82 and marveled at the gracious words 00:17:06.86\00:17:10.69 which proceeded out of His mouth. 00:17:10.73\00:17:12.99 And they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?" 00:17:13.03\00:17:18.10 Oh, yeah. You know Joseph, is he his son? 00:17:18.13\00:17:21.74 Now I don't know what that says about Joseph 00:17:21.77\00:17:24.24 but maybe a good thing. 00:17:24.27\00:17:26.27 But is this not Joseph's son they wondered, 00:17:26.31\00:17:28.81 but he's just a carpenter. 00:17:28.84\00:17:30.18 How could a carpenter son be so gracious? 00:17:30.21\00:17:31.68 I think that's maybe the parallel, 00:17:31.71\00:17:33.85 because people that's working on furniture 00:17:33.88\00:17:35.28 and building things. 00:17:35.32\00:17:36.65 They probably thought, 00:17:36.69\00:17:38.02 where did he get this eloquence? 00:17:38.05\00:17:39.39 He was not only the son of Joseph, 00:17:39.42\00:17:40.76 but he was the son of God. 00:17:40.79\00:17:42.59 Not only John the Baptist, not only Christ, 00:17:42.62\00:17:45.23 but John the Baptist recognized 00:17:45.26\00:17:47.10 this quality in Jesus on how He treated people. 00:17:47.13\00:17:49.66 Look at John 1:17. John 1:17. 00:17:49.70\00:17:54.87 The Bible says, "For the law was given through Moses, 00:17:54.90\00:17:58.44 but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." 00:17:58.47\00:18:02.74 Grace and truth. 00:18:02.78\00:18:04.58 He is long suffering, He's gracious. 00:18:04.61\00:18:07.42 He is not only the God of truth, 00:18:07.45\00:18:09.15 unwavering truth, but He's the God of grace, 00:18:09.18\00:18:11.89 who when the truth of God's Word 00:18:11.92\00:18:13.46 doesn't change your life, He still gives us grace. 00:18:13.49\00:18:15.99 Grace to me is padding. 00:18:16.02\00:18:18.96 Grace to me is that, you know, 00:18:18.99\00:18:20.83 we have some beavers right now that are determined to cut down 00:18:20.86\00:18:24.17 all the trees on our property. 00:18:24.20\00:18:26.43 And they were on the other side of the lake, 00:18:26.47\00:18:28.30 I thought, well, great cut those trees down 00:18:28.34\00:18:29.94 because I want to cut them down I can't get to them. 00:18:29.97\00:18:32.31 But they came on this side of the property 00:18:32.34\00:18:33.88 and cut down this beautiful large tree. 00:18:33.91\00:18:36.11 And I said, "How can I prevent 00:18:36.14\00:18:37.71 these beavers from cutting my trees down, 00:18:37.75\00:18:39.31 I went on the internet. 00:18:39.35\00:18:41.08 Because they said you have to build 00:18:41.12\00:18:42.45 a nice chicken wire fence around it 00:18:42.48\00:18:44.25 with some padding between the wire and the tree. 00:18:44.29\00:18:46.96 That's God's grace that keeps the world 00:18:46.99\00:18:49.36 from chewing us up. 00:18:49.39\00:18:51.06 God's grace prevents, 00:18:51.09\00:18:52.46 that wire between the world and us, 00:18:52.49\00:18:55.63 God has that padding of grace 00:18:55.66\00:18:58.43 and His approach 00:18:58.47\00:18:59.80 was also not only to treat people kindly 00:18:59.83\00:19:01.40 but to disarm people in their anger 00:19:01.44\00:19:03.81 and their prejudice. 00:19:03.84\00:19:05.17 And you'll see that all through Scripture. 00:19:05.21\00:19:06.94 But Jesus, there are two examples in the Bible. 00:19:06.98\00:19:09.21 One was a Roman centurion, 00:19:09.24\00:19:11.11 and the other one was a Jewish leader, 00:19:11.15\00:19:13.82 two most unlikely people that even 00:19:13.85\00:19:16.55 when they didn't deserve God's grace, 00:19:16.58\00:19:18.79 He showed it to them. 00:19:18.82\00:19:20.16 Look at Matthew Chapter 8. 00:19:20.19\00:19:22.29 Matthew Chapter 8, this was a centurion 00:19:22.32\00:19:24.99 that wanted his daughter to be healed. 00:19:25.03\00:19:29.16 And he was a commander, 00:19:29.20\00:19:32.67 he could tell people to do things and they'll do it. 00:19:32.70\00:19:35.80 But he said to the Lord, 00:19:35.84\00:19:37.17 He said to Jesus, in verse 8, 00:19:37.21\00:19:39.51 "Lord, I am not worthy 00:19:39.54\00:19:41.34 that You should come under my roof. 00:19:41.38\00:19:43.04 But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed." 00:19:43.08\00:19:46.31 And then Jesus commended him in verse 10. 00:19:46.35\00:19:49.55 Jesus said, "Jesus heard and marveled 00:19:49.58\00:19:53.99 and said to those who followed, 00:19:54.02\00:19:55.89 'Assuredly, I say to you, 00:19:55.92\00:19:57.69 I have not found such great faith, 00:19:57.73\00:19:59.76 not even in Israel." 00:19:59.79\00:20:01.46 He commended the man for the way he was. 00:20:01.50\00:20:03.63 And then also a scribe that 00:20:03.67\00:20:05.87 Jesus spoke to when Jesus 00:20:05.90\00:20:07.70 said love your neighbor as yourself. 00:20:07.74\00:20:09.67 The scribe recognize that 00:20:09.70\00:20:11.04 what He's saying is the words of life. 00:20:11.07\00:20:12.84 And He couldn't even get that reaction 00:20:12.87\00:20:14.28 from those who had claimed to be following Him. 00:20:14.31\00:20:16.95 And then Jesus said, 00:20:16.98\00:20:18.31 "You are not far from the kingdom of God." 00:20:18.35\00:20:20.42 He always found a way to bring out the best 00:20:20.45\00:20:22.12 in individual instead of saying, 00:20:22.15\00:20:24.22 you can get closer to the kingdom. 00:20:24.25\00:20:25.72 He said, you are not far. Notice the difference. 00:20:25.75\00:20:27.72 One person once said, 00:20:27.76\00:20:29.09 how you say things make a difference. 00:20:29.12\00:20:30.59 For example, you could say to a young lady, 00:20:30.63\00:20:33.23 you know, you remind me of a kitten, 00:20:33.26\00:20:36.16 or you could say you're just like a cat. 00:20:36.20\00:20:39.43 Now, Jill, was that different? 00:20:39.47\00:20:42.07 If you say, if you say to your wife, 00:20:42.10\00:20:43.61 you know, when I look at you, honey, time stands still. 00:20:43.64\00:20:46.57 She says, that's so nice. 00:20:46.61\00:20:47.94 Well, you could say you have a face that stops the clock. 00:20:47.98\00:20:51.41 Notice the difference. 00:20:51.45\00:20:52.78 I'm just showing you the difference. 00:20:52.81\00:20:54.15 You're saying the same thing, 00:20:54.18\00:20:55.52 but you're saying it differently. 00:20:55.55\00:20:56.89 So now let's transition to six things 00:20:56.92\00:20:59.22 that will show you how important your words are, 00:20:59.25\00:21:02.19 one, Isaiah 42:3. 00:21:02.22\00:21:04.66 Our words are instrumental. 00:21:04.69\00:21:06.86 Jesus said in Isaiah 42:3, 00:21:06.90\00:21:09.06 "A bruised reed He will not break, 00:21:09.10\00:21:11.23 a smoking flax He will not quench; 00:21:11.27\00:21:13.47 He will bring forth justice for truth." 00:21:13.50\00:21:15.74 Our words are first instrumental 00:21:15.77\00:21:18.04 don't break bruised reeds and don't pour water 00:21:18.07\00:21:21.38 with your words on a person 00:21:21.41\00:21:23.04 whose light is just about to die. 00:21:23.08\00:21:24.41 That's right. 00:21:24.45\00:21:25.78 There's some people that have no hope. 00:21:25.81\00:21:27.15 And you know, we say, that's good for you. 00:21:27.18\00:21:29.08 You deserve that. 00:21:29.12\00:21:30.45 That's pouring water on a coal that 00:21:30.49\00:21:33.05 just has no life left in it. 00:21:33.09\00:21:34.82 It's just about to whimper out. 00:21:34.86\00:21:36.59 Your words can bring life back to that individual. 00:21:36.62\00:21:38.89 And I've seen that it's important to be gracious. 00:21:38.93\00:21:41.83 Also, our words are aromatic. 00:21:41.86\00:21:43.83 Colossians 4:5 and 6. 00:21:43.87\00:21:45.87 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, 00:21:45.90\00:21:48.10 meaning those who are not a part of your following, 00:21:48.14\00:21:50.81 redeeming the time. 00:21:50.84\00:21:52.31 Listen to this, verse 6 of Colossians 4. 00:21:52.34\00:21:55.21 "Let your speech always be with grace, 00:21:55.24\00:21:58.08 seasoned with salt, there you go, 00:21:58.11\00:22:00.25 that you may know 00:22:00.28\00:22:01.62 how you ought to answer each one." 00:22:01.65\00:22:04.99 Be nice to people, you know, 00:22:05.02\00:22:06.62 if people were just nice to folk, 00:22:06.65\00:22:08.39 how different would the world be. 00:22:08.42\00:22:09.76 Amen to that. It is nice, just be nice. 00:22:09.79\00:22:12.19 I mean just be nice. 00:22:12.23\00:22:15.36 Yes, be nice, just be nice. 00:22:15.40\00:22:19.03 Today just be nice to somebody, not because they deserve it 00:22:19.07\00:22:22.60 because you should represent Christ. 00:22:22.64\00:22:25.01 Be nice. 00:22:25.04\00:22:27.21 Thirdly, our words are valuable. 00:22:27.24\00:22:29.04 Our words are valuable. 00:22:29.08\00:22:30.71 They're first instrumental, aromatic, 00:22:30.75\00:22:32.45 but they are valuable. 00:22:32.48\00:22:33.95 Proverbs 25:11, "A word fitly spoken 00:22:33.98\00:22:37.92 is like apples of gold in settings of silver." 00:22:37.95\00:22:41.92 How valuable if somebody spoke to you 00:22:41.96\00:22:44.89 or if you spoke to someone, 00:22:44.93\00:22:46.29 and you walked away from someone, 00:22:46.33\00:22:48.53 would you say, "Wow, that was, I needed that." 00:22:48.56\00:22:51.93 And sometimes we could empower someone 00:22:51.97\00:22:55.37 with words that are valuable. 00:22:55.40\00:22:57.27 We could say to that individual, 00:22:57.31\00:22:58.64 I know you didn't have, 00:22:58.67\00:23:00.01 I know you didn't have a great life, 00:23:00.04\00:23:01.38 but you know what? 00:23:01.41\00:23:02.74 You mean everything to Christ. 00:23:02.78\00:23:04.11 I know that the world seems like it's on your back, 00:23:04.15\00:23:06.28 but I'm here to help you lift your burden. 00:23:06.31\00:23:08.38 Make our words valuable. 00:23:08.42\00:23:09.98 Ellen White said 00:23:10.02\00:23:11.35 when people come into our presence, 00:23:11.39\00:23:12.72 they should always leave encouraged. 00:23:12.75\00:23:15.02 Our words are valuable. 00:23:15.06\00:23:16.39 Third, fourthly, our words are decisive. 00:23:16.42\00:23:18.86 Our words are decisive. This is powerful. 00:23:18.89\00:23:21.26 Proverbs 18:21, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, 00:23:21.30\00:23:27.24 and those who love it will eat its fruit." 00:23:27.27\00:23:29.80 Now, people often miss what that means. 00:23:29.84\00:23:31.61 If you use your words for death, 00:23:31.64\00:23:34.04 death is going to come upon you in your own words. 00:23:34.08\00:23:36.88 The way you cut, folk, 00:23:36.91\00:23:38.55 you're going to be cut the same way. 00:23:38.58\00:23:40.28 He who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword, 00:23:40.32\00:23:43.72 and out of the mouth proceeds that sword. 00:23:43.75\00:23:45.95 So be very careful. 00:23:45.99\00:23:47.46 Fifthly, our words are decisive. 00:23:47.49\00:23:50.59 Sorry, our words are directive. 00:23:50.63\00:23:53.26 Our words are directive. 00:23:53.29\00:23:54.96 Proverbs 15:1, 00:23:55.00\00:23:57.13 "A soft answer turns away wrath, 00:23:57.17\00:24:00.67 but a harsh word stirs up strife." 00:24:00.70\00:24:03.54 You can determine which direction 00:24:03.57\00:24:05.07 that conversation is going to go 00:24:05.11\00:24:07.51 by the next thing you say, husband or wife. 00:24:07.54\00:24:11.28 And lastly, our words are meteorological. 00:24:11.31\00:24:15.02 Wow. 00:24:15.05\00:24:17.89 I tried to say that slowly, because you can make mess, 00:24:17.92\00:24:20.39 you mess your tongue up on that one. 00:24:20.42\00:24:22.16 Our words are meteorological. 00:24:22.19\00:24:24.89 Proverbs 15:23, "A man has joy 00:24:24.93\00:24:29.16 by the answer of his mouth, 00:24:29.20\00:24:31.40 and a word spoken in due season, 00:24:31.43\00:24:35.54 how good it is!" 00:24:35.57\00:24:36.94 Meteorological. 00:24:36.97\00:24:38.31 Here's the principle 00:24:38.34\00:24:39.67 that you must apply when you speak. 00:24:39.71\00:24:41.04 Let the words of my mouth, come on, 00:24:41.08\00:24:43.38 and the meditations on my heart be acceptable in Your sight. 00:24:43.41\00:24:47.35 O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. 00:24:47.38\00:24:50.85 Pastor Kenny. Praise the Lord, Pastor. 00:24:50.89\00:24:52.92 Always thrilling, isn't it to be able to hear 00:24:52.95\00:24:54.32 the Word of God 00:24:54.36\00:24:55.69 and so we're having a good time spiritually, right? 00:24:55.72\00:24:58.23 Getting into the word. And so it's got to be exciting. 00:25:50.48\00:25:53.18 It is, absolutely. 00:25:53.21\00:25:54.55 "Jesus' Healing Ministry: 00:25:54.58\00:25:57.35 Part 1" because Greg has part 2. 00:25:57.39\00:25:59.69 So we're going to take a couple of stories here. 00:25:59.72\00:26:01.66 Thank you both so much, Pastor Kenny and Pastor John. 00:26:01.69\00:26:04.63 So I'm going to remember that 00:26:04.66\00:26:05.99 all day and hopefully all week and all year. 00:26:06.03\00:26:08.63 Be nice. Okay, moving on. 00:26:08.66\00:26:11.60 We're talking about the lesson 00:26:11.63\00:26:13.34 had this incredible statement here. 00:26:13.37\00:26:15.10 It said, Jesus ministered to people's felt needs, 00:26:15.14\00:26:18.84 so that He could ultimately meet their deepest needs. 00:26:18.87\00:26:23.31 What is the felt need? 00:26:23.35\00:26:24.68 It's an area of life where people feel like 00:26:24.71\00:26:26.48 they can't solve their own problems. 00:26:26.51\00:26:28.85 I want to quit smoking, or I want to lose weight 00:26:28.88\00:26:31.12 or exercise more or eat better 00:26:31.15\00:26:33.12 or reduce stress or get the money I need. 00:26:33.15\00:26:35.99 Or I need medical care or food or I'm having marriage problems 00:26:36.02\00:26:40.40 or sickness, disease or cancer. 00:26:40.43\00:26:42.63 Any of these are felt needs where we can meet that need 00:26:42.66\00:26:46.87 in someone else's life, 00:26:46.90\00:26:48.60 leading to the deepest need that they have. 00:26:48.64\00:26:51.21 And what is that? 00:26:51.24\00:26:52.57 We each have a God shaped hole in our heart 00:26:52.61\00:26:56.64 that can only be filled by the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:26:56.68\00:27:00.52 We have a need for assurance of salvation, 00:27:00.55\00:27:03.45 for peace with God, for forgiveness of sins, 00:27:03.49\00:27:06.62 for a relationship with our Creator God 00:27:06.65\00:27:09.62 and Redeemer. 00:27:09.66\00:27:10.99 We each need a reason for existence. 00:27:11.03\00:27:13.76 Jesus' healing ministry, He dealt with physical needs. 00:27:13.80\00:27:18.20 He dealt with mental needs. 00:27:18.23\00:27:19.83 He dealt with emotional needs, 00:27:19.87\00:27:21.90 but they always led to spiritual healing 00:27:21.94\00:27:24.64 'cause Jesus was concerned about the whole person. 00:27:24.67\00:27:28.54 In the Synoptic Gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke, 00:27:28.58\00:27:31.45 there's 22 accounts of healing described. 00:27:31.48\00:27:34.52 Fifteen of those 22 accounts were 00:27:34.55\00:27:37.15 by those marginalized by society. 00:27:37.19\00:27:40.72 Jesus healed women, beggars, 00:27:40.76\00:27:44.19 lepers, demoniacs, 00:27:44.23\00:27:46.59 people who were discriminated against. 00:27:46.63\00:27:50.17 Those 15 of the 22 healings in the Synoptic Gospels 00:27:50.20\00:27:53.57 were by those who were considered outcasts 00:27:53.60\00:27:56.00 or untouchable or lesser than. 00:27:56.04\00:27:59.61 And 9 of the 22 accounts involved faith 00:27:59.64\00:28:03.14 or specifically mentioned faith 00:28:03.18\00:28:05.48 in the midst of the healing process. 00:28:05.51\00:28:07.18 We know faith was involved in all of them, 00:28:07.22\00:28:09.68 but 9 of the 22 specifically mentioned faith. 00:28:09.72\00:28:12.89 So we're going to look at two different stories, 00:28:12.92\00:28:14.62 two different examples of Jesus' 00:28:14.66\00:28:17.03 healing ministry, the paralytic 00:28:17.06\00:28:19.66 and the woman with the issue of blood. 00:28:19.69\00:28:21.86 So let's start with a paralytic. 00:28:21.90\00:28:23.23 We're going to look at Matthew 9. 00:28:23.26\00:28:24.60 If you want to turn with me, 00:28:24.63\00:28:25.97 we're going to Matthew chapter 9. 00:28:26.00\00:28:28.74 I've divided the story in three sections, the setting, 00:28:28.77\00:28:32.81 the issue, and then the healing. 00:28:32.84\00:28:35.78 So let's look at the setting. 00:28:35.81\00:28:37.31 Matthew 9:1-2, "So He," that's Jesus, "got into a boat, 00:28:37.35\00:28:41.68 crossed over, and came to His own city. 00:28:41.72\00:28:44.22 Then behold, they brought to him 00:28:44.25\00:28:46.25 a paralytic lying on a bed." 00:28:46.29\00:28:48.52 Now let's stop a moment. 00:28:48.56\00:28:50.19 You noticed, it said, he came to His own city. 00:28:50.23\00:28:52.96 What city is that? 00:28:52.99\00:28:54.33 Capernaum, His own city, 00:28:54.36\00:28:56.46 likely He came to Simon Peter's house 00:28:56.50\00:28:58.67 because often he would be there in Simon Peter's house. 00:28:58.70\00:29:02.30 Now in case you're wondering His own city, 00:29:02.34\00:29:04.27 you just made up Capernaum. 00:29:04.31\00:29:05.64 The Gospel of Mark clearly says he came to Capernaum. 00:29:05.67\00:29:09.71 Mark also gives some other details to the story 00:29:09.74\00:29:11.95 that we're missing here in Matthew. 00:29:11.98\00:29:14.05 Mark explains how Jesus had just healed a leper 00:29:14.08\00:29:17.15 just a few days ago. 00:29:17.19\00:29:18.75 And He told the leper, 00:29:18.79\00:29:20.12 "Go show yourself to the priests." 00:29:20.16\00:29:21.49 Now this is important 00:29:21.52\00:29:22.86 because the priests found out about 00:29:22.89\00:29:26.16 Jesus' healing ministry. 00:29:26.19\00:29:28.06 Now He told the leper, Jesus did, 00:29:28.10\00:29:29.96 show yourself to the priests, 00:29:30.00\00:29:31.33 but don't tell other people but the leper didn't listen. 00:29:31.37\00:29:33.74 And he told this story far and wide, 00:29:33.77\00:29:36.10 so much so that Mark says 00:29:36.14\00:29:38.44 Jesus could no longer even enter a city, 00:29:38.47\00:29:41.88 because the people flocked to Him. 00:29:41.91\00:29:44.51 So He went out into like the country, 00:29:44.55\00:29:46.45 and the people would come to Him. 00:29:46.48\00:29:47.82 So at this point, 00:29:47.85\00:29:49.18 Jesus is very well known and popular. 00:29:49.22\00:29:51.72 Mark also tells us that Jesus went into the house 00:29:51.75\00:29:54.09 and there were so many people 00:29:54.12\00:29:55.59 in the house that there was no room 00:29:55.62\00:29:57.46 when the people brought the paralytic. 00:29:57.49\00:29:59.53 They had to go up on the roof and open it up. 00:29:59.56\00:30:02.53 These are his four friends, 00:30:02.56\00:30:04.27 and let him down through the roof into the room 00:30:04.30\00:30:08.60 so that he could be brought to Jesus. 00:30:08.64\00:30:11.67 I love that. 00:30:11.71\00:30:13.48 When you can't get to Jesus by yourself, 00:30:13.51\00:30:16.78 let your friends carry you. 00:30:16.81\00:30:20.68 And if you have other people 00:30:20.72\00:30:26.22 in your life, carry them to Jesus. 00:30:26.25\00:30:30.33 You have people that are lacking in faith, 00:30:30.36\00:30:32.19 people who are paralytic, people who need Jesus. 00:30:32.23\00:30:35.80 You'd be the one to bring them to Jesus. 00:30:35.83\00:30:40.10 Now Luke also talks about the story in Luke 5. 00:30:40.14\00:30:42.90 And there's an interesting piece 00:30:42.94\00:30:44.31 that's added to this 00:30:44.34\00:30:45.67 that's missing in Matthew and Mark's version. 00:30:45.71\00:30:48.21 Luke says that the Pharisees 00:30:48.24\00:30:50.98 and the teachers of the law were present. 00:30:51.01\00:30:53.08 Now other one say that too, but in Luke 5:16, it says that, 00:30:53.11\00:30:55.92 "The Pharisees and teachers of the law 00:30:55.95\00:30:57.75 had come from every town of Galilee, 00:30:57.79\00:31:01.72 Judea and Jerusalem." 00:31:01.76\00:31:03.76 Now, I don't know but if the... 00:31:03.79\00:31:06.56 You know, Jesus healed the leper just before this. 00:31:06.59\00:31:08.90 It's possible that 00:31:08.93\00:31:11.27 when the leper went to show himself to the priests, 00:31:11.30\00:31:13.30 they kind of held a little meeting 00:31:13.34\00:31:14.87 with the leaders of the church 00:31:14.90\00:31:16.24 and all the priests and all the Pharisees 00:31:16.27\00:31:18.77 and all the scribes began to say, 00:31:18.81\00:31:20.54 "Okay, we got to keep an eye on this Jesus." 00:31:20.58\00:31:22.71 So they came from every single town. 00:31:22.74\00:31:25.18 They were there present in that home. 00:31:25.21\00:31:28.12 So what's, that's the setting. Let's look at the issue. 00:31:28.15\00:31:30.22 What is the issue? 00:31:30.25\00:31:31.59 The issue was not even really 00:31:31.62\00:31:33.36 whether Jesus could heal the paralytic, 00:31:33.39\00:31:35.32 the issue was whether Jesus had authority to forgive sins. 00:31:35.36\00:31:39.39 How is healing connected with sin? 00:31:39.43\00:31:42.36 How is healing connected with forgiveness? 00:31:42.40\00:31:44.77 How is healing connected with sin, sickness, suffering, 00:31:44.80\00:31:47.50 disease, pain and death? 00:31:47.54\00:31:49.37 We know that all sickness, all disease, 00:31:49.40\00:31:52.57 all death is the result of sin, 00:31:52.61\00:31:54.71 because the wages of sin is death. 00:31:54.74\00:31:56.54 We know that sin brought fear and guilt. 00:31:56.58\00:31:58.38 Sin brought a separation from the Father. 00:31:58.41\00:32:01.05 Now our sins specifically don't always cause that. 00:32:01.08\00:32:05.35 I want to be clear there. 00:32:05.39\00:32:06.72 There are times, say if you few smoke, 00:32:06.76\00:32:08.86 okay, their cancer can be a direct correlation, 00:32:08.89\00:32:11.96 you could say to that smoking. 00:32:11.99\00:32:13.86 There's other times like in Job 00:32:13.90\00:32:15.80 where it's just an outworking of the great controversy of sin 00:32:15.83\00:32:19.07 in general. 00:32:19.10\00:32:21.04 But if Jesus can take care of the effects of sin, 00:32:21.07\00:32:23.67 that's physical healing, surely, 00:32:23.71\00:32:26.07 He can take care of the cause 00:32:26.11\00:32:27.58 of the illness by forgiving the sin. 00:32:27.61\00:32:29.84 So forgiving sins and healing diseases 00:32:29.88\00:32:32.61 is these two sides of the coin, 00:32:32.65\00:32:35.05 but it's really the same mission of Jesus. 00:32:35.08\00:32:38.05 We see the healing here in verse 2. 00:32:38.09\00:32:40.26 They brought him the paralytic, he's on the bed. 00:32:40.29\00:32:42.66 Jesus said, "Son be of good cheer. 00:32:42.69\00:32:45.49 Your sins are forgiven you." 00:32:45.53\00:32:47.83 Now we might have sat there 00:32:47.86\00:32:49.20 and wondered how he got that way, 00:32:49.23\00:32:50.57 we might have avoided him. 00:32:50.60\00:32:51.93 We might have not associated with him 00:32:51.97\00:32:53.94 or thought he deserved this 00:32:53.97\00:32:55.30 or we might have criticized him. 00:32:55.34\00:32:57.07 But Jesus said, "Son, be of good cheer. 00:32:57.11\00:33:00.31 Your sins are forgiven you." 00:33:00.34\00:33:02.78 Jesus announced the forgiveness of the sins 00:33:02.81\00:33:04.71 before he was healed, before he went 00:33:04.75\00:33:06.51 and offered a sacrifice in the sanctuary. 00:33:06.55\00:33:08.45 Before he said anything, 00:33:08.48\00:33:09.98 it was the faith that saved him. 00:33:10.02\00:33:12.95 So then we see, all of a sudden 00:33:12.99\00:33:14.96 all these scribes and Pharisees get worked up 00:33:14.99\00:33:17.13 and they start talking amongst themselves. 00:33:17.16\00:33:19.39 This man is blaspheming. 00:33:19.43\00:33:22.10 But Jesus knowing their thoughts said, 00:33:22.13\00:33:23.77 "Why do you think evil in your hearts, 00:33:23.80\00:33:25.67 for which is easier to say your sins are forgiven 00:33:25.70\00:33:28.10 or arise and walk, but that you may know that 00:33:28.14\00:33:31.34 the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins. 00:33:31.37\00:33:34.24 Then he said to the paralytic, 00:33:34.28\00:33:36.18 "Arise, take up your bed and go to your house. 00:33:36.21\00:33:39.21 And he arose and departed to his house." 00:33:39.25\00:33:42.05 So we see Jesus saying, 00:33:42.08\00:33:43.42 "Your sins are forgiven, rise, take up your bed and walk." 00:33:43.45\00:33:46.96 And Jesus had authority and power to forgive sins. 00:33:46.99\00:33:50.66 Now, let's look just briefly at the woman 00:33:50.69\00:33:53.19 with the issue of blood. 00:33:53.23\00:33:54.73 What was her problem? 00:33:54.76\00:33:56.10 She'd had an issue for 12 years. 00:33:56.13\00:33:57.70 She'd been to physician after physician 00:33:57.73\00:33:59.60 with no cure and no hope. 00:33:59.63\00:34:02.20 In their culture, if she had this issue of blood, 00:34:02.24\00:34:05.31 she would have been considered unclean. 00:34:05.34\00:34:07.08 She would have been prohibited from entering the temple. 00:34:07.11\00:34:09.68 She could not come in contact with people or things, 00:34:09.71\00:34:12.11 it would be similar to a leper. 00:34:12.15\00:34:14.02 She was an outcast and untouchable. 00:34:14.05\00:34:17.82 And yet, when she heard about Jesus, 00:34:17.85\00:34:20.02 Matthew 5:27, Matthew 5:27, 00:34:20.06\00:34:24.49 "She came behind Him in the crowd 00:34:24.53\00:34:26.43 and touched His garment. 00:34:26.46\00:34:28.73 For she said, 'If I may only touch His clothes, 00:34:28.76\00:34:31.63 I shall be made well.'" 00:34:31.67\00:34:34.04 Now that word well is from the root word, 00:34:34.07\00:34:36.27 we get salvation. 00:34:36.30\00:34:37.87 It's the same word in Matthew 1:21 00:34:37.91\00:34:40.08 when it says Jesus will save His people 00:34:40.11\00:34:43.04 from their sins, the same word save. 00:34:43.08\00:34:45.05 So this means the woman when she's reaching out 00:34:45.08\00:34:47.45 if I may just touch His garment, 00:34:47.48\00:34:49.55 she's not just talking about physical healing, 00:34:49.58\00:34:51.72 but this is spiritual healing as well. 00:34:51.75\00:34:54.66 Her faith and courage and hope to press 00:34:54.69\00:34:57.76 through the crowd 00:34:57.79\00:34:59.13 and touch His garment is remarkable. 00:34:59.16\00:35:02.50 The revealing and Jesus said, what did He say? 00:35:02.53\00:35:04.77 "Who touched Me?" Yeah. 00:35:04.80\00:35:06.13 And the disciples thought it was rather funny. 00:35:06.17\00:35:07.70 What are you saying who touched me. 00:35:07.74\00:35:10.71 Why did He asked who touched Me? 00:35:10.74\00:35:13.88 Because it gave her an opportunity 00:35:13.91\00:35:16.81 to testify of what the Lord had done in her life. 00:35:16.85\00:35:22.38 It gave her an opportunity to witness. 00:35:22.42\00:35:24.99 It gave Him an opportunity to express that 00:35:25.02\00:35:27.92 it was not the physical touching 00:35:27.96\00:35:29.62 that had healed. 00:35:29.66\00:35:30.99 Clear up any misconception in that. 00:35:31.03\00:35:33.63 Our Lord stopped the woman also, 00:35:33.66\00:35:35.06 so other people would know. 00:35:35.10\00:35:36.53 So that now she could be looked upon as clean 00:35:36.56\00:35:39.37 and associate with others. 00:35:39.40\00:35:41.07 And He also stopped 00:35:41.10\00:35:42.44 so that the greater miracle could occur. 00:35:42.47\00:35:45.67 Jairus' daughter, remember He was on His way 00:35:45.71\00:35:47.84 to Jairus' daughter 00:35:47.88\00:35:49.21 that she wouldn't just be healed, 00:35:49.24\00:35:50.58 now she would literally be raised from the dead. 00:35:50.61\00:35:53.58 Mercy. Amen. 00:35:53.62\00:35:55.12 Thank you very much, Sweetie. 00:35:55.15\00:35:56.48 Blessing to sit next to you on Sabbath School Panel. 00:35:56.52\00:35:58.39 Sure. 00:35:58.42\00:35:59.75 I have "Jesus' Healing Ministry: Part 2." 00:35:59.79\00:36:03.53 And I wanted to start with Matthew 9:35. 00:36:03.56\00:36:08.66 I actually want to look 00:36:08.70\00:36:10.03 at a three-fold ministry of Christ 00:36:10.07\00:36:12.13 while here on this earth. 00:36:12.17\00:36:13.80 One of those being healing, Jill looked at part one, 00:36:13.84\00:36:16.71 I'm looking at part two. 00:36:16.74\00:36:18.07 Matthew 9:35 says, "Then Jesus went about 00:36:18.11\00:36:22.98 all the cities and villages," 00:36:23.01\00:36:24.61 number one, "teaching in their synagogues," 00:36:24.65\00:36:27.32 number two, 00:36:27.35\00:36:28.68 "preaching the gospel of the kingdom," 00:36:28.72\00:36:30.29 and number three, "healing every sickness 00:36:30.32\00:36:33.29 and every disease among the people." 00:36:33.32\00:36:37.13 Now I was homeschooled by my mother, 00:36:37.16\00:36:40.06 so I appreciate my mother. 00:36:40.10\00:36:41.43 She was my teacher. 00:36:41.46\00:36:43.83 I have sat under many different pastors 00:36:43.87\00:36:46.67 and ministers is my growing up right now our pastor, 00:36:46.70\00:36:49.24 my pastor for probably the last 20 years 00:36:49.27\00:36:51.07 or close to that is Pastor John Lomacang, 00:36:51.11\00:36:53.48 a very powerful speaker of the Word. 00:36:53.51\00:36:56.54 I was very sick at one time and I was in a foreign country, 00:36:56.58\00:37:01.42 I couldn't even walk, 00:37:01.45\00:37:02.82 they had to carry me into the emergency room 00:37:02.85\00:37:05.55 and the doctors were able to get me better. 00:37:05.59\00:37:08.59 They healed me, but nothing against my mother. 00:37:08.62\00:37:11.86 Nothing against Pastor John Lomacang 00:37:11.89\00:37:13.53 or all the other pastors or the doctors that healed me. 00:37:13.56\00:37:16.03 Can you imagine to be under the teacher, 00:37:16.06\00:37:18.17 Jesus Christ, to be under the healer, 00:37:18.20\00:37:20.74 Jesus Christ, 00:37:20.77\00:37:22.10 or under the preacher of Jesus Christ, 00:37:22.14\00:37:23.54 as He walked on this earth had been absolutely phenomenal. 00:37:23.57\00:37:27.64 So I want to just briefly look at the three aspects of Christ. 00:37:27.68\00:37:30.88 When He came here, John 10:10, I don't want to miss this. 00:37:30.91\00:37:33.68 "Jesus came, that they may have life, 00:37:33.72\00:37:36.18 and that they may have it more abundantly." 00:37:36.22\00:37:38.75 So Christ's mission on this earth, 00:37:38.79\00:37:40.19 of course, was for salvation, but to seek 00:37:40.22\00:37:42.42 and to save that which was lost, 00:37:42.46\00:37:44.69 teaching Christ as our teacher. 00:37:44.73\00:37:46.70 Basically, when you look at the Greek word, 00:37:46.73\00:37:48.10 it means to literally teach, 00:37:48.13\00:37:49.50 to impart knowledge, to disseminate information. 00:37:49.53\00:37:52.37 There's about 45 times in the scriptures 00:37:52.40\00:37:54.60 that Christ is referred to as the teacher. 00:37:54.64\00:37:58.41 So I just wrote down some different, 00:37:58.44\00:38:00.08 I know time it just always seemed like 00:38:00.11\00:38:01.44 we're trying to cram so much in these 10 minutes. 00:38:01.48\00:38:03.88 But Jesus taught with power. 00:38:03.91\00:38:06.31 You can look these up, Matthew 4:23 and 24. 00:38:06.35\00:38:10.22 Jesus teaching was unique, or he amazed others. 00:38:10.25\00:38:14.82 They were astonished at His teaching. 00:38:14.86\00:38:17.13 Matthew 7:28. 00:38:17.16\00:38:20.03 Jesus taught at various places to various people. 00:38:20.06\00:38:23.67 He went about many different villages, 00:38:23.70\00:38:25.10 many different towns and cities. 00:38:25.13\00:38:27.37 But He also talked to the scholars, 00:38:27.40\00:38:29.50 and he talked to the little children, 00:38:29.54\00:38:30.87 I think that's just beautiful. 00:38:30.91\00:38:32.81 Jesus taught with compassion, Mark 6:34. 00:38:32.84\00:38:36.95 I just want to read this scripture, 00:38:36.98\00:38:38.31 because to me, it's just, 00:38:38.35\00:38:39.68 it's just a beautiful passage in the Word of God. 00:38:39.71\00:38:41.25 Mark 6:34 says, "And Jesus went, 00:38:41.28\00:38:44.15 and when he came out, saw many people, 00:38:44.19\00:38:47.26 and he was moved with compassion toward them, 00:38:47.29\00:38:51.13 because they were a sheep not having a shepherd. 00:38:51.16\00:38:54.00 And he began to teach them many things." 00:38:54.03\00:38:57.60 Number five, like I just mentioned 00:38:57.63\00:38:58.97 a little bit ago is He could talk to scholars 00:38:59.00\00:39:02.84 were just astonished that the people who said, 00:39:02.87\00:39:04.54 He didn't go to our schools. 00:39:04.57\00:39:06.27 How is this possible, Pastor Kenny, 00:39:06.31\00:39:08.28 that you can just dumbfound us? 00:39:08.31\00:39:10.41 We don't even have answers. He asks us a question. 00:39:10.45\00:39:12.25 We're not sure how to even answer these questions 00:39:12.28\00:39:14.08 so He could communicate with the elite, 00:39:14.12\00:39:17.19 so to speak of His time. 00:39:17.22\00:39:18.92 Jesus taught by placing other people first. 00:39:18.95\00:39:23.19 Luke 13:10-17. 00:39:23.22\00:39:25.39 This is the woman 00:39:25.43\00:39:26.76 with the infirmary for 18 years. 00:39:26.80\00:39:28.53 And how Jesus healed her on the Sabbath day. 00:39:28.56\00:39:30.77 He was criticized, wasn't He? 00:39:30.80\00:39:32.47 Why are You healing her on the Sabbath day? 00:39:32.50\00:39:33.87 And then He says, "Well, 00:39:33.90\00:39:35.24 wouldn't you pull your ox out of the ditch, 00:39:35.27\00:39:37.47 why wouldn't I heal this woman?" 00:39:37.51\00:39:39.07 So again, He puts the scholar's kind of like, 00:39:39.11\00:39:40.98 wow, what do we say now? 00:39:41.01\00:39:42.34 But He taught people or He placed people first. 00:39:42.38\00:39:46.61 Number seven, He taught with authority and power. 00:39:46.65\00:39:50.05 He again talked to the scribes and the elders, 00:39:50.09\00:39:51.65 I have Luke 20:1-8. 00:39:51.69\00:39:54.96 And then Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, 00:39:54.99\00:39:57.86 and I think that's a beautiful part too. 00:39:57.89\00:39:59.39 Luke 11:1 says, "And it came to pass, 00:39:59.43\00:40:01.86 that, as he was praying in a certain place, 00:40:01.90\00:40:04.77 when he stopped, 00:40:04.80\00:40:06.33 one of his disciples said unto him, 00:40:06.37\00:40:08.10 Lord, teach us to pray, 00:40:08.14\00:40:10.61 as John also taught his disciples." 00:40:10.64\00:40:13.14 So we're looking at Christ as teacher, 00:40:13.17\00:40:15.18 Christ is preaching, or as a pastor, 00:40:15.21\00:40:17.75 it's interesting to think of that. 00:40:17.78\00:40:19.51 The Greek word means to preach, 00:40:19.55\00:40:21.08 to announce a message publicly 00:40:21.12\00:40:23.65 and I like this, with conviction 00:40:23.69\00:40:25.75 and with persuasion. 00:40:25.79\00:40:28.02 There's about 13 times in the Bible 00:40:28.06\00:40:29.96 where Christ is referred to as preaching. 00:40:29.99\00:40:32.63 And I just have three points here. 00:40:32.66\00:40:34.66 Jesus applied the scriptures to the lives of His hearers. 00:40:34.70\00:40:40.10 I think that's beautiful, 00:40:40.14\00:40:41.47 He made it very relevant to them, 00:40:41.50\00:40:43.64 especially in the parables and the things that 00:40:43.67\00:40:45.27 He said they could understand 00:40:45.31\00:40:47.71 what He was saying, so He applied it to them. 00:40:47.74\00:40:50.81 This is Luke 4:16-20. 00:40:50.85\00:40:54.58 And during this passage, Christ mentions Isaiah 00:40:54.62\00:40:59.32 and is referring to Isaiah Chapter 61. 00:40:59.35\00:41:03.59 And the part here it says, "And he came to Nazareth," 00:41:03.63\00:41:06.93 verse 16, "where he had been brought up. 00:41:06.96\00:41:09.66 And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue 00:41:09.70\00:41:11.80 on the Sabbath day and stood up for to read. 00:41:11.83\00:41:14.84 And there was delivered unto Him 00:41:14.87\00:41:16.20 the book of the Prophet Isaiah. 00:41:16.24\00:41:18.37 And when He had opened the book, 00:41:18.41\00:41:20.08 He found the place where it was written." 00:41:20.11\00:41:22.51 Verse 18, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me." 00:41:22.54\00:41:24.85 This goes back to your scripture, 00:41:24.88\00:41:26.21 Pastor Kenny, "Because he hath anointed me 00:41:26.25\00:41:29.15 to preach the gospel to the poor. 00:41:29.18\00:41:32.72 He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, 00:41:32.75\00:41:36.22 to preach deliverance to the captives, 00:41:36.26\00:41:39.29 and recovering of sight to the blind, 00:41:39.33\00:41:42.43 and to set at liberty those that are bruised." 00:41:42.46\00:41:46.50 Again, Christ applied the scriptures to His hearers, 00:41:46.53\00:41:50.34 but He also, I think this is just powerful. 00:41:50.37\00:41:52.94 He spoke directly to the human condition, 00:41:52.97\00:41:55.78 so He was mentioning a lot of points 00:41:55.81\00:41:57.15 you're brokenhearted, captives, bruised. 00:41:57.18\00:42:00.15 And I think that's just the Lord 00:42:00.18\00:42:02.85 and God that we serve cares about us 00:42:02.88\00:42:05.12 on an intimate level. 00:42:05.15\00:42:07.09 And the third point is He shared His mission, 00:42:07.12\00:42:09.52 we can again go right back to this passage here, 00:42:09.56\00:42:12.03 Luke 4:18, where He shared His mission 00:42:12.06\00:42:15.23 and that was to preach to the poor, 00:42:15.26\00:42:18.43 to heal, to deliver, to give eyesight, 00:42:18.47\00:42:23.34 and to set free those that are in bondage. 00:42:23.37\00:42:25.17 I mean, that's just beautiful. 00:42:25.21\00:42:26.57 So Christ, as the preacher, Christ as our healer. 00:42:26.61\00:42:30.15 And that is to, 00:42:30.18\00:42:31.51 the Greek means to physically restore 00:42:31.55\00:42:34.02 to from someone 00:42:34.05\00:42:35.38 from their illness or infirmity. 00:42:35.42\00:42:37.75 There's 22 stories, as Jill mentioned, 00:42:37.79\00:42:39.55 in the Synoptic Gospels of Christ's healing. 00:42:39.59\00:42:43.16 And Mark 1:32-39. 00:42:43.19\00:42:47.43 This is from the lesson and I won't read all of that 00:42:47.46\00:42:50.40 but going down to basically 00:42:50.43\00:42:53.10 what's happening here is Jesus has been preaching 00:42:53.13\00:42:56.20 and then that evening which is interesting to me, 00:42:56.24\00:42:59.07 there are people that are coming to be healed, 00:42:59.11\00:43:01.21 so after sundown, Christ heals many people. 00:43:01.24\00:43:04.98 Then He goes to sleep somewhere in that time period, 00:43:05.01\00:43:07.52 because then it says He gets up a great 00:43:07.55\00:43:09.55 while before daybreak. 00:43:09.58\00:43:10.92 So He's healing people to who knows what hour. 00:43:10.95\00:43:13.36 Then He gets up and He goes to pray. 00:43:13.39\00:43:15.76 And His disciples come to Him and say, 00:43:15.79\00:43:17.13 "There's lots of people already coming, 00:43:17.16\00:43:18.49 they want to be healed." 00:43:18.53\00:43:19.86 And Jesus says to them, "Let us go into the next towns 00:43:19.89\00:43:23.53 that I may preach there, also for therefore, 00:43:23.57\00:43:26.37 that's why I came. 00:43:26.40\00:43:27.94 And He preached in the synagogues 00:43:27.97\00:43:29.64 throughout all Galilee and cast out devils. 00:43:29.67\00:43:32.47 So yeah, Christ, definitely busy, 00:43:32.51\00:43:34.28 but He cared for others, and He physically healed them, 00:43:34.31\00:43:36.91 but His main purpose and this comes 00:43:36.95\00:43:38.58 from the lesson if you have your quarterly 00:43:38.61\00:43:40.82 with you can see this quote. 00:43:40.85\00:43:42.75 It says, "Jesus was not merely 00:43:42.78\00:43:44.49 some spectacular miracle worker. 00:43:44.52\00:43:47.09 He was the divine Son of God, 00:43:47.12\00:43:49.42 who came in a redemptive mission. 00:43:49.46\00:43:51.73 His mission was to bring eternal life to others." 00:43:51.76\00:43:55.23 And again, Luke 19:10 says, 00:43:55.26\00:43:57.03 "For the Son of Man has come to seek 00:43:57.07\00:43:58.90 and to save that which was lost." 00:43:58.93\00:44:01.70 Again another quote from the lesson, 00:44:01.74\00:44:03.17 "Each act of healing was an opportunity 00:44:03.20\00:44:05.71 to reveal God's character, 00:44:05.74\00:44:08.04 relieve suffering and provide an opportunity 00:44:08.08\00:44:11.78 for eternal life. 00:44:11.81\00:44:14.65 "You know, I think of Christ's healing ministry on this earth, 00:44:14.68\00:44:19.15 I think of a Savior that cares for me. 00:44:19.19\00:44:23.29 I think of a Savior 00:44:23.32\00:44:25.19 that's concerned with my worries, 00:44:25.23\00:44:28.13 my concerns, what's going on in my life, 00:44:28.16\00:44:30.93 the necessities, the things that I need on a daily basis. 00:44:30.97\00:44:34.94 And you know, Jesus is our example, right? 00:44:34.97\00:44:36.91 He's that perfect example for us. 00:44:36.94\00:44:38.77 So we're to emulate 00:44:38.81\00:44:40.18 that example here on this earth. 00:44:40.21\00:44:42.68 There is an old children's song that probably all of us, 00:44:42.71\00:44:46.41 probably you at home have sung as well. 00:44:46.45\00:44:48.68 And it's called a sermon in shoes and it says, 00:44:48.72\00:44:51.35 "Do you know O Christian, you're a sermon in shoes. 00:44:51.39\00:44:56.02 Do you know, O Christian, you're a sermon in shoes." 00:44:56.06\00:45:00.53 Jesus calls upon you to spread the gospel news. 00:45:00.56\00:45:04.33 So walk it, and talk it, live it and give it, 00:45:04.37\00:45:09.47 teach it and preach it, know it and show it, 00:45:09.50\00:45:14.14 a sermon in shoes. 00:45:14.18\00:45:16.54 So I just want to encourage you today 00:45:16.58\00:45:19.61 to be the hands and the feet of Christ. 00:45:19.65\00:45:23.39 He had His healing ministry here on this earth is teaching 00:45:23.42\00:45:25.42 and preaching, you may not be able to heal 00:45:25.45\00:45:27.69 as Jesus did. 00:45:27.72\00:45:29.16 But you can still go and touch somebody for Him. 00:45:29.19\00:45:32.13 So I want to encourage 00:45:32.16\00:45:33.50 you today to be that sermon in shoes 00:45:33.53\00:45:35.30 by our affections, our attitudes, 00:45:35.33\00:45:38.43 and our actions. 00:45:38.47\00:45:40.20 Amen. Thank you so much, Brother. 00:45:40.24\00:45:42.50 Wow, that was powerful, the healing ministry of Jesus, 00:45:42.54\00:45:45.44 where would we be without it? That's right. 00:45:45.47\00:45:47.94 In bottomless pit, in fact, 00:45:47.98\00:45:49.31 we've made this point many times, 00:45:49.34\00:45:50.68 as you guys clearly alluded to the fact that you know, 00:45:50.71\00:45:54.35 much of the gospel records Jesus healing 00:45:54.38\00:45:56.89 more than He actually preached 00:45:56.92\00:45:58.25 and so we can see there clearly not only 00:45:58.29\00:46:00.29 does He care about our physical well-being, 00:46:00.32\00:46:02.22 but as you guys brought out our spiritual 00:46:02.26\00:46:04.39 well-being as well, which sets us up wonderfully 00:46:04.43\00:46:06.93 for Thursday's lesson 00:46:06.96\00:46:08.30 which is entitled, "What Matters to Jesus." 00:46:08.33\00:46:12.20 What matters to Jesus, 00:46:12.23\00:46:13.67 I suspect that there's a lot that matters to Jesus. 00:46:13.70\00:46:16.97 But I love how Pastor Mark Finley 00:46:17.01\00:46:20.14 lines out this particular lesson 00:46:20.18\00:46:21.84 because he brings it 00:46:21.88\00:46:23.21 from the perspective of three parables 00:46:23.24\00:46:25.78 that Jesus told in His last week 00:46:25.81\00:46:28.72 before He would go to the cross. 00:46:28.75\00:46:30.32 In fact, to kind of set this up, 00:46:30.35\00:46:32.69 we're talking about the Olivet Discourse. 00:46:32.72\00:46:35.29 We're talking about Jesus coming 00:46:35.32\00:46:36.66 had just come out of the temple, 00:46:36.69\00:46:38.39 in the latter parts of Matthew 23. 00:46:38.43\00:46:40.80 So we see there 00:46:40.83\00:46:42.16 in the opening verses of Matthew 24, 00:46:42.20\00:46:44.17 the disciples and Jesus are coming out 00:46:44.20\00:46:45.67 of the temple and they say to Jesus, 00:46:45.70\00:46:47.14 Lord, you know, look at the temple, 00:46:47.17\00:46:49.00 look how beautiful it is because Jesus just had 00:46:49.04\00:46:50.84 a showdown in the temple, right? 00:46:50.87\00:46:52.21 He just turned over the tables. 00:46:52.24\00:46:53.81 He's let them know you have defiled My Father's house, 00:46:53.84\00:46:57.28 and I'm not going to stand for this. 00:46:57.31\00:46:58.65 And so, Jesus expressed a righteous indignant anger 00:46:58.68\00:47:02.32 against the defiling of His temple. 00:47:02.35\00:47:04.25 And so that you can imagine that the disciples 00:47:04.29\00:47:06.35 are just kind of trying to calm Him down, 00:47:06.39\00:47:07.72 Oh, Jesus, look at the beautiful temple 00:47:07.76\00:47:09.09 and the buildings. 00:47:09.12\00:47:10.46 And it's so magnificent, isn't it? 00:47:10.49\00:47:12.26 And then Jesus says to them, you know, there's coming a time 00:47:12.29\00:47:14.56 when there will not be one stone left upon another. 00:47:14.60\00:47:18.13 And the Bible says that He and the disciples 00:47:18.17\00:47:20.07 went away privately atop the Mount of Olives. 00:47:20.10\00:47:22.40 And He began to unfold to them, 00:47:22.44\00:47:24.61 the things that would happen in the last days. 00:47:24.64\00:47:26.88 And we see that clearly in the signs of the times, 00:47:26.91\00:47:29.14 the latter events that will happen there 00:47:29.18\00:47:31.11 as recorded in Matthew 24. 00:47:31.15\00:47:33.08 But many people don't consider that 00:47:33.11\00:47:34.45 Matthew 25 is an extension of that discourse. 00:47:34.48\00:47:37.65 And I wanted to start with the opening parable 00:47:37.69\00:47:40.89 here in the opening verses of Matthew 25. 00:47:40.92\00:47:43.32 It's one that we are often familiar with, 00:47:43.36\00:47:45.73 it is the parable of the ten virgins, and again, 00:47:45.76\00:47:48.16 we're talking about what matters to Jesus. 00:47:48.20\00:47:50.27 And I can tell you no other parable 00:47:50.30\00:47:52.33 that would clearly communicate 00:47:52.37\00:47:53.77 if we had three of these parables here, 00:47:53.80\00:47:55.94 if you would, we're going to talk about one 00:47:55.97\00:47:57.51 that would really clearly show what it is that we must have, 00:47:57.54\00:48:01.14 what it is that we must experience 00:48:01.18\00:48:02.98 in these last days in order to prepare 00:48:03.01\00:48:04.88 for the kingdom of God. 00:48:04.91\00:48:06.25 I believe the answer is found within this parable. 00:48:06.28\00:48:07.98 So we're going to do our best with the time given 00:48:08.02\00:48:09.72 to address these three parables. 00:48:09.75\00:48:11.55 But I want to start with verse 1 Matthew Chapter 25. 00:48:11.59\00:48:15.02 Here it is, it says, "Jesus is the kingdom of heaven 00:48:15.06\00:48:17.33 shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps 00:48:17.36\00:48:20.56 and went out to meet the bridegroom." 00:48:20.60\00:48:23.00 Now, just to kind of give you a heads up 00:48:23.03\00:48:24.53 for those of you who might not be 00:48:24.57\00:48:25.90 familiar with this parable. 00:48:25.93\00:48:27.27 This is a parable. 00:48:27.30\00:48:28.64 Obviously, Jesus is using a short story 00:48:28.67\00:48:30.21 to teach a moral lesson here. 00:48:30.24\00:48:32.07 But obviously, this is a highly symbolic, 00:48:32.11\00:48:35.04 prophetic parable as well. 00:48:35.08\00:48:37.05 We're going to deal with some symbols here. 00:48:37.08\00:48:38.61 So we see right in the opening sentence here, 00:48:38.65\00:48:40.52 the opening verse, these ten virgins, 00:48:40.55\00:48:42.62 these are obviously ten women, and He's liking them 00:48:42.65\00:48:45.05 unto the kingdom of God. 00:48:45.09\00:48:47.29 And it's interesting that in the Bible, 00:48:47.32\00:48:49.92 we're told that a woman represents what? 00:48:49.96\00:48:52.16 Church. 00:48:52.19\00:48:53.53 The church, so we're dealing with God's people, His church, 00:48:53.56\00:48:56.67 in this particular parable, and then notice verse 2. 00:48:56.70\00:48:59.83 It says, "Now five of them were wise, 00:48:59.87\00:49:02.87 and five were foolish." 00:49:02.90\00:49:04.24 Now I want to kind of back up again 00:49:04.27\00:49:05.61 to verse 1 and extend into verse 2 here. 00:49:05.64\00:49:07.84 It says, "They took their lamps 00:49:07.88\00:49:09.21 and they went out to meet the bridegroom." 00:49:09.24\00:49:10.81 So we know that we have God's Church, 00:49:10.85\00:49:12.51 these women, they have their lamps. 00:49:12.55\00:49:14.18 And we've learned in our study 00:49:14.22\00:49:15.55 so far, that the Word of God according to Psalms119:105, 00:49:15.58\00:49:20.99 "Remember thy word is a lamp unto my feet 00:49:21.02\00:49:23.43 and a light unto my path." 00:49:23.46\00:49:24.89 So they have their lamps, they have their lamps, 00:49:24.93\00:49:27.30 they put their trust in God's Word, 00:49:27.33\00:49:29.06 in the promises of God's Word that the bridegroom 00:49:29.10\00:49:32.13 and we know this bridegroom, 00:49:32.17\00:49:33.50 none other represents Jesus Christ, 00:49:33.54\00:49:35.80 the bridegroom, they have put their trust 00:49:35.84\00:49:38.34 in the power of this lamp, 00:49:38.37\00:49:40.11 which promises them that Jesus will return. 00:49:40.14\00:49:42.94 So they've went out, they're expressing faith 00:49:42.98\00:49:44.98 in the Word of God, all ten of these virgins. 00:49:45.01\00:49:47.18 They go out to meet the bridegroom. 00:49:47.22\00:49:49.58 But it reminds us here in verse 2 that 00:49:49.62\00:49:51.15 five are wise and five are foolish, 00:49:51.19\00:49:53.05 and we'll see why that is the case here. 00:49:53.09\00:49:54.76 Those who are foolish took their lamps 00:49:54.79\00:49:57.09 and took no oil with them. 00:49:57.13\00:50:01.06 But the wise took oil 00:50:01.10\00:50:02.56 in their vessels with their lamps. 00:50:02.60\00:50:04.40 Okay, so obviously if you do an in-depth study 00:50:04.43\00:50:06.43 of God's Word, 00:50:06.47\00:50:07.80 oil in the Bible is a representation 00:50:07.84\00:50:10.17 of the Spirit of God. 00:50:10.21\00:50:11.84 And that goes to show us, my friends, 00:50:11.87\00:50:13.38 that you can have your lamps, 00:50:13.41\00:50:15.08 you can know this word, you can be smart, intelligent, 00:50:15.11\00:50:18.15 you can have the verses memorized, 00:50:18.18\00:50:20.42 you can know it from cover to cover, 00:50:20.45\00:50:22.22 you can know it front to back. 00:50:22.25\00:50:23.59 But if you do not have the power 00:50:23.62\00:50:25.39 that activates the light of this lamp in you, 00:50:25.42\00:50:28.72 dwelling in you and through you and working through you, 00:50:28.76\00:50:31.13 the oil of the Holy Spirit, then it is of no avail to us. 00:50:31.16\00:50:34.53 It does not serve its purpose. 00:50:34.56\00:50:36.83 And so these five foolish 00:50:36.87\00:50:38.67 while they're going out to meet Christ, 00:50:38.70\00:50:40.47 while they put their trust in God's Word, 00:50:40.50\00:50:42.54 they don't have the Holy Spirit in their life. 00:50:42.57\00:50:44.64 They need the Holy Spirit so that they can press forward 00:50:44.67\00:50:47.81 to get through the times 00:50:47.84\00:50:49.18 that they are about to endure before the bridegroom 00:50:49.21\00:50:51.91 but before the bridegroom comes and retrieves them. 00:50:51.95\00:50:54.28 And so we go on to read here very quickly. 00:50:54.32\00:50:56.32 Then all those virgins arose and trim their lamps, okay. 00:50:56.35\00:50:59.49 Actually go back to verse 6. 00:50:59.52\00:51:00.86 I actually I skipped a couple of verses here. 00:51:00.89\00:51:03.29 Verse 5. 00:51:03.32\00:51:04.66 "While the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept." 00:51:04.69\00:51:07.10 And I think we've experienced 00:51:07.13\00:51:08.46 a little bit of that in these last days. 00:51:08.50\00:51:09.83 It seems like the church has been a little stagnant, 00:51:09.86\00:51:11.93 maybe a little bit complacent in their work, 00:51:11.97\00:51:13.57 but you know what? 00:51:13.60\00:51:14.94 God still has people. 00:51:14.97\00:51:16.30 God still has people 00:51:16.34\00:51:17.67 and even while those five wives were sleeping, 00:51:17.71\00:51:20.68 notice verse 6, at midnight, a cry was heard, 00:51:20.71\00:51:23.28 "Behold, the bridegroom is coming, go out to meet him. 00:51:23.31\00:51:26.55 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 00:51:26.58\00:51:30.02 And the foolish said to the wise, 00:51:30.05\00:51:31.52 give us some of your oil, 00:51:31.55\00:51:32.89 for our lamps are going out. 00:51:32.92\00:51:35.12 But the wise answered and said, 00:51:35.16\00:51:36.49 "No less, there should not be enough for you and us, 00:51:36.52\00:51:38.69 but go rather to those who sell and buy for yourselves." 00:51:38.73\00:51:42.86 Now, this is vitally important. 00:51:42.90\00:51:44.87 They don't have enough oil. 00:51:44.90\00:51:46.43 They look to the human sources to supply their oil needs. 00:51:46.47\00:51:51.61 And there's a lot of people today 00:51:51.64\00:51:52.97 that are looking unto man, and they're saying, 00:51:53.01\00:51:55.31 you know, share with us your experience, 00:51:55.34\00:51:57.18 are looking into man to lead them 00:51:57.21\00:51:58.55 and to guide them when really they need to be 00:51:58.58\00:52:00.22 going to Him who is selling. 00:52:00.25\00:52:02.15 And in this case, 00:52:02.18\00:52:03.52 it's interesting that in Revelation 3, 00:52:03.55\00:52:04.89 we see Jesus, Jesus Christ, He's selling, He says, 00:52:04.92\00:52:07.96 "I counsel you to buy from me," right? 00:52:07.99\00:52:10.16 Jesus wants to give us His righteousness. 00:52:10.19\00:52:12.09 He wants to give us the oil of the spirit. 00:52:12.13\00:52:14.60 But, of course, right here, they go to other agents. 00:52:14.63\00:52:17.70 And that's why in 1 John 4:1, 00:52:17.73\00:52:20.17 it says, beloved, believe not every spirit 00:52:20.20\00:52:23.00 but test the spirits, 00:52:23.04\00:52:24.67 whether they are of God or not, 00:52:24.71\00:52:26.04 because they go and they find oil. 00:52:26.07\00:52:28.04 They go away and they find their oil. 00:52:28.08\00:52:29.81 They go and find their source because they come back later, 00:52:29.84\00:52:32.15 as you continue to read, and they knock on that door 00:52:32.18\00:52:34.58 thinking that they're going to get in 00:52:34.62\00:52:36.15 after the bridegroom has already come, 00:52:36.18\00:52:38.15 and they are turned away by the most haunting words 00:52:38.19\00:52:41.06 that a person could possibly 00:52:41.09\00:52:42.42 ever hear coming out of the mouth of their Savior. 00:52:42.46\00:52:45.16 "I do not know you." 00:52:45.19\00:52:48.16 My friends, what does this parable teach us? 00:52:48.20\00:52:50.10 I know I wanted to go through it all and read it all. 00:52:50.13\00:52:51.57 We just don't have time. 00:52:51.60\00:52:52.97 But the parable of the ten virgins 00:52:53.00\00:52:54.47 emphasizes the importance of a genuine, 00:52:54.50\00:52:58.74 authentic spirit filled life. 00:52:58.77\00:53:01.11 What matters to Christ most? 00:53:01.14\00:53:02.91 A genuine, authentic, spirit filled life. 00:53:02.94\00:53:07.05 You can know about Jesus, 00:53:07.08\00:53:08.88 you can be a cheerleader 00:53:08.92\00:53:10.25 on the sidelines cheering Jesus on. 00:53:10.29\00:53:12.02 But if you're not engaged in the work with Christ, 00:53:12.05\00:53:15.22 if you're not actually following Him, 00:53:15.26\00:53:17.03 and being led by the Spirit of God, 00:53:17.06\00:53:18.83 my friends, we are in a dangerous spot. 00:53:18.86\00:53:21.76 And He continues to communicate 00:53:21.80\00:53:23.93 this same need for Christ in a spirit filled life 00:53:23.97\00:53:27.60 when He goes on to tell us the next parable, 00:53:27.64\00:53:29.34 which I'm not going to spend a lot of time in, 00:53:29.37\00:53:30.94 but it's the parable of the talents. 00:53:30.97\00:53:32.31 We've already referenced this parable of the talents. 00:53:32.34\00:53:34.81 Of course, it says there in verse 15, 00:53:34.84\00:53:36.64 that he gave five talents to one, another two 00:53:36.68\00:53:39.28 and of course, he gave one to another, 00:53:39.31\00:53:40.88 and of course, the one that gets 00:53:40.92\00:53:42.65 the one talent, you know, 00:53:42.68\00:53:44.29 and I love Jill, how you brought that out 00:53:44.32\00:53:46.05 in a previous lesson. 00:53:46.09\00:53:47.42 You talked about these talents 00:53:47.46\00:53:48.79 and how we often sometimes 00:53:48.82\00:53:50.26 we become kind of 00:53:50.29\00:53:51.63 tunnel visioned on other people. 00:53:51.66\00:53:54.00 You know, we're looking at the horizontal, 00:53:54.03\00:53:55.50 we're not focused on the vertical 00:53:55.53\00:53:56.87 and we're looking at each other 00:53:56.90\00:53:58.23 and we're comparing ourselves to each other. 00:53:58.27\00:54:00.17 Why does that brother or sister have more than me, Lord? 00:54:00.20\00:54:02.27 Why is that You're blessing that person more than me? 00:54:02.30\00:54:04.44 Why did you equip that person more than me, 00:54:04.47\00:54:06.34 you know, I would love to be able to preach the gospel 00:54:06.37\00:54:08.94 like Pastor John Lomacang. 00:54:08.98\00:54:10.58 But that still don't change the fact 00:54:10.61\00:54:11.95 that while God may have given Him, 00:54:11.98\00:54:13.85 let's say, five talents and me one, 00:54:13.88\00:54:15.72 He still looks at Ryan and says, 00:54:15.75\00:54:17.09 you know what, 00:54:17.12\00:54:18.45 "I've given you the one, do something with the ones. 00:54:18.49\00:54:19.82 Stop focus on the brother that I've given five to, 00:54:19.85\00:54:22.39 because when I come back, I want to see that you've taken 00:54:22.42\00:54:24.29 what I've given you 00:54:24.33\00:54:25.66 and you've used it for My kingdom." 00:54:25.69\00:54:27.40 The parable of the ten talents underlines 00:54:27.43\00:54:29.63 the importance of faithfully using the gifts 00:54:29.66\00:54:32.30 that God has given to each one of us. 00:54:32.33\00:54:34.57 And, of course, 00:54:34.60\00:54:35.94 last and the minute I have left here, 00:54:35.97\00:54:37.37 our last parable, which I'm not going to be 00:54:37.41\00:54:39.01 able to go in detail, 00:54:39.04\00:54:40.38 but it's the parable of the sheep and the goats. 00:54:40.41\00:54:42.41 And we see there that God says, "Look, at the end of time, 00:54:42.44\00:54:45.41 I'm going to have my sheep on my right side. 00:54:45.45\00:54:47.78 I'm going to have the goats on my left," 00:54:47.82\00:54:49.25 much like the parable of the wheat and the tares 00:54:49.28\00:54:50.79 we see in Matthew 13. 00:54:50.82\00:54:52.29 He says, "Look, I'm coming back and guess what? 00:54:52.32\00:54:53.79 There's going to be some wheat, 00:54:53.82\00:54:55.16 there's going to be some tares." 00:54:55.19\00:54:56.52 And let me tell you something, my brothers and sisters, 00:54:56.56\00:54:58.96 Jesus is coming back for a Holy church, 00:54:58.99\00:55:01.83 He's not coming back to this process, refine, 00:55:01.86\00:55:04.20 he wants us to be spirit filled and transform 00:55:04.23\00:55:07.64 from the inside out. 00:55:07.67\00:55:09.00 And so what we're seeing 00:55:09.04\00:55:10.37 in this separation of the sheeps and the goats, 00:55:10.41\00:55:12.37 you can't hide anything from God. 00:55:12.41\00:55:14.24 He knows if you are a genuine Christian 00:55:14.28\00:55:16.58 or if you are not. 00:55:16.61\00:55:18.01 And so what does this parable teach us? 00:55:18.05\00:55:19.75 The parable of the sheep and the goats reveals 00:55:19.78\00:55:21.88 that genuine Christianity truly ministers 00:55:21.92\00:55:24.92 to the needs of those God brings 00:55:24.95\00:55:26.92 into our lives each day. 00:55:26.96\00:55:28.56 These sheep are the ones 00:55:28.59\00:55:29.92 who go out and they feed the needy, 00:55:29.96\00:55:31.69 they clothed the needy, 00:55:31.73\00:55:33.13 they go and visit those and they preach in the gospel. 00:55:33.16\00:55:36.10 They're not only meeting the physical needs, 00:55:36.13\00:55:38.10 but they're also meeting 00:55:38.13\00:55:39.47 the spiritual needs of those as well. 00:55:39.50\00:55:41.77 My friends, as I said, 00:55:41.80\00:55:43.14 He's coming back for a Holy church. 00:55:43.17\00:55:45.24 Are you in that fold? 00:55:45.27\00:55:46.84 Are you going to be a part of that sheep? 00:55:46.88\00:55:48.94 That He is going to say, "Well done, welcome, 00:55:48.98\00:55:51.55 My good and faithful servant." 00:55:51.58\00:55:53.18 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:55:53.21\00:55:55.38 You talk about wrapping it up. Praise God. 00:55:55.42\00:55:57.95 Thank you for all of those thoughts 00:55:57.99\00:55:59.32 from everyone of you and, you know, 00:55:59.35\00:56:01.49 as we always do at the end, 00:56:01.52\00:56:03.16 we go around and ask some thoughts. 00:56:03.19\00:56:05.06 And sometimes people say that's not important. 00:56:05.09\00:56:07.03 But I believe that Holy Spirit puts things 00:56:07.06\00:56:08.66 on each of your heart and your life 00:56:08.70\00:56:10.03 that He could use. 00:56:10.07\00:56:11.40 So, Pastor John, through this lesson, 00:56:11.43\00:56:12.77 what did God lay on your heart? 00:56:12.80\00:56:14.14 Now I gave six points of what our words are. 00:56:14.17\00:56:16.04 And the seventh one, 00:56:16.07\00:56:17.41 our words are also determinative, 00:56:17.44\00:56:19.67 determinative. 00:56:19.71\00:56:21.68 Matthew 12:37, "For by your words, 00:56:21.71\00:56:25.58 you will be judged, and by your words, 00:56:25.61\00:56:28.82 you will be condemned. 00:56:28.85\00:56:30.39 Our words are determinative." 00:56:30.42\00:56:32.12 Amen. Absolutely. 00:56:32.15\00:56:33.49 I talked about the healing ministry of Jesus, 00:56:33.52\00:56:35.16 the second healing example 00:56:35.19\00:56:36.93 we talked about the woman with the issue of blood. 00:56:36.96\00:56:39.33 I want to read the final verse from that, that's Mark 5:34. 00:56:39.36\00:56:43.87 "And Jesus said to her, 00:56:43.90\00:56:45.23 'Daughter, your faith has made you well, go in peace, 00:56:45.27\00:56:49.60 and be healed of your affliction." 00:56:49.64\00:56:51.44 And that's what Jesus says to you today. 00:56:51.47\00:56:53.38 Your faith has made you whole. 00:56:53.41\00:56:55.94 Yes. Amen. 00:56:55.98\00:56:57.61 You know, Pastor Kenny, at the beginning 00:56:57.65\00:56:58.98 of this lesson you mentioned this 00:56:59.01\00:57:00.35 and I like this a lot. 00:57:00.38\00:57:01.72 Jesus came to demonstrate the gospel. 00:57:01.75\00:57:04.82 So I just pray that in my own life 00:57:04.85\00:57:06.52 and hopefully yours as well 00:57:06.55\00:57:07.99 that we would demonstrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ 00:57:08.02\00:57:10.99 and the love that He has for us that 00:57:11.03\00:57:12.36 we would put that out and demonstrate that to others. 00:57:12.39\00:57:14.66 Amen. 00:57:14.70\00:57:16.03 Beautiful quote from Pastor Mark Finley 00:57:16.06\00:57:17.63 here in the Thursday's lesson, 00:57:17.67\00:57:19.80 in reference to the sheep and the goat's parable. 00:57:19.83\00:57:21.64 And he says in the parable, "Those who give their lives 00:57:21.67\00:57:24.81 for something more than themselves 00:57:24.84\00:57:27.01 are commended by their Lord and welcomed into eternity." 00:57:27.04\00:57:30.68 And so with the Spirit of the Lord transforming us, 00:57:30.71\00:57:33.25 we can indeed have the promise 00:57:33.28\00:57:34.82 that we will be welcomed into eternity. 00:57:34.85\00:57:37.45 Amen, I've just really thoroughly enjoyed 00:57:37.49\00:57:39.49 this lesson ministering the way 00:57:39.52\00:57:41.12 that Jesus wants us to minister. 00:57:41.16\00:57:43.19 So a lot of good points 00:57:43.22\00:57:44.56 and we pray that's been a blessing to you. 00:57:44.59\00:57:46.16 And we want to make sure that you tune in next week 00:57:46.19\00:57:48.53 because we be on lesson number nine 00:57:48.56\00:57:50.53 is talking about developing a winning attitude. 00:57:50.57\00:57:53.23 That's right. 00:57:53.27\00:57:54.60 All of us like to be on winning side, 00:57:54.64\00:57:55.97 get on the side of Christ, 00:57:56.00\00:57:57.34 and you're going to be on that winning side. 00:57:57.37\00:57:59.21 Again, we've enjoyed spending this time with you. 00:57:59.24\00:58:01.48 We look forward to spending with you next week. 00:58:01.51\00:58:03.11 May God bless you and we'll see you then. 00:58:03.14\00:58:05.15
