be a doer of the work?

Now clearly, we know those

who are not doers of the word

would manifest the
works of the flesh.

Let's read that,

"The works of the
flesh are evident,

adultery, fornication,

uncleanness, lewdness,
idolatry, sorcery, hatred,

contentions,
jealousy, outbursts of wrath,

selfish ambition,
dissension, heresy,

envy, murder,

that those who practice
such things will not inherit

Those who are
not doers of the Word

manifest in their lives.

who are doers of the Word

exhibit the fruit of the Spirit.

The real issue is not obedience.

led by the Spirit of God,

But by contrast,

So the issue is,
who are we surrender to,

What do doers do quickly
before we jump into Sunday?

Doers reveal the character
of Jesus in their lives.

That's what we just established.

Doers share Jesus

and the truth in
His Word with others.

We call that the
Great Commission.

We're commanded to
go and teach, baptize.

We're commanded to share Jesus.

Doers of the Word
love God and other people.

That could be called
the great compassion.

Jesus in Matthew 22 said what?

the first great commandment,

the second is like unto it,

Number four.

Doers of the Word analyze
the state of their own life

before judging someone else.

Romans 2 is an amazing passage,
the beginning part of it.

Verse 1, Paul says,
"You are inexcusable O man,

whoever you are who judge

for whatever you judge
another, you condemn yourself,

for you who judge
practice the same things."

And it continues,
"Doers of the Word analyze

their own life before
looking into someone else's.

Doers of the Word
evaluate their own words.

They watch what they
say and keep their words
00:08:24.00\00:08:25.97
under the control
of the Holy Spirit,

because we know by our
words we'll be justified,

and by our words,
we will be condemned.

Doers of the Word
intercede for other people,

they pray with and for others."

On Sunday, we look at
the living Word of God

How do we learn to
live by the Word of God?

First, we understand
that the Word is alive.

marrow, and is a discerner

of the thoughts and
intents of the heart."

So we understand, first of
all, that the Word is alive.

Second, we understand that

the natural mind is
enmity against God and His Word.

Paul tells us in Romans 8:7,

"Because the carnal

Many Christians walk
as do those in the world.

They eat, they think, they act,

they dress like
those who are against God.

That means that some
people who are in the church

who claim the name of
Jesus have never allowed

the Word to impact their life,

have never taken the
Word in and assimilate it,

and allow the living
Word of God to change them.

How we learn to
live by the Word of God?

surrender cherished sin.

We read, "If I regard
iniquity in my heart,"

it's kind of a heavy statement,
"the Lord will not hear."

That means if you're holding on
to something that God has said,

I don't think so."

We are called to be
a chosen generation,

who called us from darkness

Are we following Jesus?

looking at each other.

sin against You."

How was Jesus

able not to live a
life of separate from sin?

How was He able to
live through this life

without any sin at all?

You know, there's
probably many ways that

people would answer that,
but I'm going to tell you,

Jesus hid the Word
of God in His heart.

He had God's will and God's plan

His mind and in His heart,

so that He wasn't going to sin,

so He could fulfill His mission.

Jesus always, always points

His people to the scriptures.

Some prime examples of
this would be Luke 24:45,

that they might comprehend,

times Jesus is saying this,

Thus it is written
and thus it was necessary

for the Christ to

should be our language.

what does the Bible say?

know, I know that my loved ones

are up there
looking down upon me

who have passed away,
and they're watching over me

and we get in a
conversation about that.

I asked them, "What
does the Bible say?"

That's exactly
what Jesus is doing.

Every one of these
texts that I just mentioned,

pointing them back saying,

It is written. What

We have something
to learn from that.

I love John Chapter 5,

the example given there
in verse 39 specifically,

Jesus speaking, He says,
you searched the scriptures,

speaking to the Pharisees again,

these were the
teachers of Israel.

These were the people
who were supposed to have
00:22:07.19\00:22:08.59
the Word of God memorized,

and He's telling them
you search the scriptures,

for in them you think
you have eternal life.

And these are they
which testify of Me.

When we follow in
the example of Christ,

and we're following His Word,
we're learning of His ways.

We're learning of His character.

We're tucking away His
will into our mind and heart.

And I just want to go back
and reference Luke Chapter 24.

It's one of my favorite stories
of the two disciples on the way

to Emmaus that
rode to Emmaus and,

of course, they meet
this man whom, again,

their eyes were
dimmed, and they can't see

that it's Jesus,
and they're in despair.

They're in a moment of despair,
00:22:43.19\00:22:44.53
because they've
put their life trust
00:22:44.56\00:22:46.59
into this man named Jesus
00:22:46.63\00:22:48.13
who has now been
dead for three days
00:22:48.16\00:22:50.27
and He hasn't resurrected yet,
00:22:50.30\00:22:52.27
at least they
don't think He has.
00:22:52.30\00:22:53.64
His body's
missing and they decide,
00:22:53.67\00:22:55.00
you know what?
00:22:55.04\00:22:56.37
We're just going to
go back to Emmaus and so,

they're on their way
there, little did they know that
00:22:57.91\00:23:00.04
Jesus is right there
with them in the flesh.

But notice what
Jesus does to them?

In this time of
despair, what does He do?

He comes, He meets them.

He gives them a Bible study.

You know, that
says something about us

if we're going to
learn from Christ,

in times of despair

when we see our brothers
and our sisters failing,

if we see them that

they're going
through a tough time,

they're going through
trials and tribulations,
00:23:23.97\00:23:25.30
you yourself are going through
00:23:25.33\00:23:26.97
trials and
tribulations in your life.

What better way to
go back to God's Word

because in God's Word is life,
is comfort, is peace, is joy

and so we see Christ
giving and I love that last part

there as they're walking away,

as they're going
back to Jerusalem,

they're talking
to each other saying,

"Man, you know, did not

They had, as Brother

they had heartburn.

Their hearts burn within them
00:23:50.49\00:23:52.09
because they had just been
given a personal Bible study

by the Son of God Himself.

Powerful, powerful.
00:23:56.70\00:23:58.03
You know, we need to be
more like Joseph as well.
00:23:58.07\00:23:59.90
Joseph was the type of Christ.

And in these last days
00:24:01.67\00:24:03.00
we need to be
gathering the green,
00:24:03.04\00:24:05.07
which of course
gathering the bread,

the bread of life.
00:24:07.48\00:24:08.98
Amos 8:11 says,
"Behold, the days are coming,"
00:24:09.01\00:24:11.45
says the Lord
God, "that I will send
00:24:11.48\00:24:12.81
a famine on the land,
not a famine of bread,
00:24:12.85\00:24:14.48
nor a thirst for water,
00:24:14.52\00:24:15.85
but of hearing the
words of the Lord."
00:24:15.88\00:24:18.19
So in these last days,
may we learn from Jesus,

may we hide the Word
in our hearts and minds

that we might not sin.

people reading the Bible

may come to the conclusion

like Jesus is saying,

And we know, I've

you can find out a person

to understand who He is.

I shall accuse
you to the Father,

there is one who accuses
you, Moses, in whom you trust."

He's speaking to
the Jewish leaders.

"For if you believed Moses,

you would believe Me,
for he wrote about Me.

But if you do not
believe his writings,

how will you believe My words?"

He made a number of
statements like that.

He says, I don't even
think you would believe

if someone rose from the dead.

When Lazarus rose from the dead,

they didn't believe.

When Jesus rose from the dead,

So what is being
said here is circumstances

change an individual.

They have to get a
glimpse of who Christ is

in order for that
change to be affected.

Some people think that Jesus
in His writings, in the gospels

put His words above

what was written
in the Old Testament.

Here are a couple of examples.

Seven times in the
Bible, in the gospels,

you find this word,

you have heard that it was said,

we have arguments
with people that say,

that train of thought,

thinking that
Jesus did the same thing.

What Jesus did was quite
more extensive than that.

Jesus didn't come to
minimize the Old Testament.

Oh, by the way,

that's all He
had in His day, okay?

So let's look at
one of the examples.

Matthew 5:43 and 44,

"You have heard
that it was said,

'You shall love your
neighbor and hate your enemy.'

But I say to you,
'Love your enemies,

bless those who curse you,

do good to those who hate you,

and pray for those

who spitefully use
you and persecute you.'"

Now, when you
follow these two verses,

all that was to it.

Jesus says not 70 times seven.

What is Jesus saying to Peter?

When a person comes to
you in sincere repentance,
