Amen. We love those lists. 00:01:55.74\00:01:58.05 Good stuff. 00:01:58.08\00:01:59.41 Pastor Lomacang, of course, 00:01:59.45\00:02:00.78 it's always a blessing to have you, Brother. 00:02:00.82\00:02:02.15 Yeah, we're going to be diving 00:02:02.18\00:02:03.52 in some of the origin and history of the Bible 00:02:03.55\00:02:05.15 and it's going to be an exciting approach. 00:02:05.19\00:02:07.32 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:02:07.36\00:02:08.69 And of course, we have Brother Danny Shelton with us, 00:02:08.72\00:02:10.79 it's always a blessing 00:02:10.83\00:02:12.16 and an honor to have you on here, Brother. 00:02:12.19\00:02:13.53 I'm happy to be here and can't wait to hear 00:02:13.56\00:02:14.93 how you all break this down for us. 00:02:14.96\00:02:17.30 Amen. 00:02:17.33\00:02:18.67 We're certainly gonna have fun with this study. 00:02:18.70\00:02:20.90 Jesus and the Apostles' View of the Bible, 00:02:20.94\00:02:24.14 we have much to discuss. 00:02:24.17\00:02:25.51 But, of course, 00:02:25.54\00:02:26.88 we want to go directly to the Word of God, to... 00:02:26.91\00:02:29.04 Before we go to the Word of God in prayer. 00:02:29.08\00:02:31.21 So if you would, Brother Danny, 00:02:31.25\00:02:32.58 why don't you have a prayer for us right now? 00:02:32.61\00:02:34.22 Heavenly Father, we thank You 00:02:34.25\00:02:35.58 for Your many wonderful blessings 00:02:35.62\00:02:36.95 that You've given us 00:02:36.99\00:02:38.32 and for the opportunity being here today 00:02:38.35\00:02:39.75 and realizing that there are people around the world 00:02:39.79\00:02:42.39 who are joining hands and studying with us. 00:02:42.42\00:02:45.03 And we just pray 00:02:45.06\00:02:46.39 for the anointing of Your Holy Spirit 00:02:46.43\00:02:47.76 on each one that speaks from those that are listening, 00:02:47.80\00:02:50.60 those that are teaching the Sabbath school lesson 00:02:50.63\00:02:52.67 around the world, 00:02:52.70\00:02:54.04 that everything that's said and done will be done 00:02:54.07\00:02:55.77 to Your honor and to Your glory. 00:02:55.80\00:02:57.91 And that we'd see clearly 00:02:57.94\00:02:59.27 what You would have us to take in today 00:02:59.31\00:03:01.84 and to share with the lost and dying world. 00:03:01.88\00:03:03.88 In Jesus' name I pray, amen. Amen. 00:03:03.91\00:03:06.01 Amen. Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:03:06.05\00:03:07.62 Praise the Lord. 00:03:07.65\00:03:09.18 Our memory text for this week comes from Matthew 4:4. 00:03:09.22\00:03:14.12 And this is, of course, coming from Jesus. 00:03:14.16\00:03:16.16 He's being tempted by the devil in the wilderness. 00:03:16.19\00:03:19.09 And He's, of course, fighting the temptations of the devil. 00:03:19.13\00:03:21.80 And He says, "It is written, 00:03:21.83\00:03:24.93 man shall not live by bread alone, 00:03:24.97\00:03:27.24 but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." 00:03:27.27\00:03:32.07 And when I looked at the title of this lesson, 00:03:32.11\00:03:34.54 lesson number three, 00:03:34.58\00:03:35.91 Jesus and the Apostles' View of the Bible, 00:03:35.94\00:03:38.48 I just said, "Praise the Lord." 00:03:38.51\00:03:40.45 Because we live in a day and age 00:03:40.48\00:03:42.55 where it seems like everyone has an opinion, Pastor. 00:03:42.58\00:03:44.65 Absolutely. 00:03:44.69\00:03:46.02 Seems like everyone has their own thoughts 00:03:46.05\00:03:47.72 and their own ideas on how they approach scripture, 00:03:47.76\00:03:49.92 how they interpret scripture, their own opinions and theories 00:03:49.96\00:03:52.96 as to how to break down a text 00:03:52.99\00:03:54.86 or some people don't even do that. 00:03:54.90\00:03:56.80 They just simply say, this is what it says 00:03:56.83\00:03:58.40 and this is what it means to me. 00:03:58.43\00:04:00.04 But at the end of the day, we want to make sure 00:04:00.07\00:04:01.67 that we have the correct interpretive approach 00:04:01.70\00:04:04.21 that Jesus and the apostles'... 00:04:04.24\00:04:05.57 These were leaders of the church, 00:04:05.61\00:04:06.94 these were men full of the Holy Spirit of God. 00:04:06.98\00:04:09.04 And, of course, their councils to us are given to us 00:04:09.08\00:04:11.35 here in scripture. 00:04:11.38\00:04:12.71 And I just want to kind of open up... 00:04:12.75\00:04:14.25 Saturday afternoons lesson had something 00:04:14.28\00:04:16.72 that just really set the tone for what it is 00:04:16.75\00:04:19.19 that as we kind of make our way into Sunday's lesson. 00:04:19.22\00:04:22.29 I have to read this 'cause it was powerful, 00:04:22.32\00:04:24.33 how the author worded this. 00:04:24.36\00:04:26.49 He says here, "Unfortunately, in this post modern age, 00:04:26.53\00:04:30.53 the Bible has been largely reinterpreted 00:04:30.57\00:04:33.50 through the lens of philosophy 00:04:33.54\00:04:35.64 that questions both the inspiration 00:04:35.67\00:04:37.74 and its authority." 00:04:37.77\00:04:39.11 And that is... 00:04:39.14\00:04:40.48 that can't be further from the truth. 00:04:40.51\00:04:41.84 He goes on to say, "In fact, 00:04:41.88\00:04:43.21 the Bible is seen as merely the ideas of human beings 00:04:43.24\00:04:47.35 living in relatively primitive culture 00:04:47.38\00:04:50.12 who couldn't possibly understand the word 00:04:50.15\00:04:52.49 as we do today." 00:04:52.52\00:04:53.86 And sometimes we kind of see, you know, people in the past, 00:04:53.89\00:04:55.92 you know, our culture today, 00:04:55.96\00:04:57.29 it's like, "Oh, that was back then. 00:04:57.33\00:04:58.66 But we're much smarter, 00:04:58.69\00:05:00.03 we're much more intelligent than them." 00:05:00.06\00:05:01.40 So they can't possibly have the knowledge 00:05:01.43\00:05:03.06 that we have today. 00:05:03.10\00:05:04.70 But he goes on to say, "At the same time, 00:05:04.73\00:05:07.17 the supernatural element has been either downplayed 00:05:07.20\00:05:09.97 or even removed from the picture, 00:05:10.01\00:05:12.64 turning the..." 00:05:12.67\00:05:14.01 Excuse me, yes... 00:05:14.04\00:05:15.38 "Turning the Bible into a document 00:05:15.41\00:05:16.75 than instead of being God's view of man 00:05:16.78\00:05:19.48 has become man's view of God." 00:05:19.51\00:05:23.08 And the result is that for many, 00:05:23.12\00:05:25.52 the Bible has become largely..." 00:05:25.55\00:05:27.42 And this is, this is so true, 00:05:27.46\00:05:29.29 "Irrelevant in an age of Darwinian thinking, 00:05:29.32\00:05:33.09 and modern philosophy." 00:05:33.13\00:05:35.53 Modern philosophy, 00:05:35.56\00:05:36.90 I have said multiple times in sermons, 00:05:36.93\00:05:39.77 publicly preaching and speaking the Word of God 00:05:39.80\00:05:41.64 that probably one of the most popular books 00:05:41.67\00:05:44.41 or series of books 00:05:44.44\00:05:45.77 that people like to pull from today 00:05:45.81\00:05:47.74 is the book of first and second opinions... 00:05:47.78\00:05:51.58 If such a thing exists. 00:05:51.61\00:05:53.58 You know, everyone has their own ideas, 00:05:53.62\00:05:55.62 their own ideologies, their own perspectives, 00:05:55.65\00:05:57.85 their own theories as to what this Word of God is telling us 00:05:57.89\00:06:02.32 and when we reach the point in which we start to glean 00:06:02.36\00:06:05.19 or draw from our own knowledge and our own wisdom, 00:06:05.23\00:06:07.76 what does the Bible say? 00:06:07.80\00:06:09.13 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart 00:06:09.16\00:06:10.80 and lean not on thine own understanding." 00:06:10.83\00:06:13.30 You know, you cannot trust your own understanding. 00:06:13.34\00:06:15.30 We need God to interpret God, right? 00:06:15.34\00:06:18.17 And that's exactly what this particular lesson is saying. 00:06:18.21\00:06:20.78 Sunday's lesson, I love it. It's entitled "It is Written." 00:06:20.81\00:06:24.68 And, of course, we're going to look 00:06:24.71\00:06:26.38 at kind of a little bit of a deeper perspective. 00:06:26.41\00:06:28.88 Matthew Chapter 4 there, Jesus' experience 00:06:28.92\00:06:31.95 as He was being tempted by the devil. 00:06:31.99\00:06:33.59 So let's go to Matthew Chapter 4. 00:06:33.62\00:06:35.36 And while you're finding that in your Bibles, 00:06:35.39\00:06:37.46 just to kind of set the tone 00:06:37.49\00:06:38.83 coming out of the end of Matthew Chapter 3, 00:06:38.86\00:06:41.16 Jesus has just had a powerful experience. 00:06:41.20\00:06:43.63 Remember, He has shown up 00:06:43.67\00:06:45.00 for the first time on the scene, 00:06:45.03\00:06:46.37 John the Baptist is there in the River Jordan, 00:06:46.40\00:06:48.70 he's baptizing people. 00:06:48.74\00:06:50.31 He looks up, he sees Jesus coming Behold the Lamb of God, 00:06:50.34\00:06:54.01 who takes away the sin of the world. 00:06:54.04\00:06:55.41 Jesus comes into the water, 00:06:55.44\00:06:57.01 and Jesus asked him to baptize 00:06:57.05\00:06:58.55 and, of course, you know, the rest of the story. 00:06:58.58\00:07:00.85 Jesus is baptized by John the Baptist. 00:07:00.88\00:07:03.08 And a voice comes from heaven confirming, 00:07:03.12\00:07:05.32 we know it's the voice of the Father saying, 00:07:05.35\00:07:06.89 "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." 00:07:06.92\00:07:11.13 And so coming out of that, 00:07:11.16\00:07:12.76 now we see the Bible says that Jesus is taken away. 00:07:12.79\00:07:15.90 Notice verse 1 here, Matthew 4:1, it says, 00:07:15.93\00:07:19.43 "Then Jesus was led up by the spirit 00:07:19.47\00:07:21.80 into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 00:07:21.84\00:07:25.97 And when He had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, 00:07:26.01\00:07:29.64 afterward He was hungry. 00:07:29.68\00:07:31.78 Now when the tempter came to Him, He said, 00:07:31.81\00:07:34.38 'If you are the son of God, 00:07:34.42\00:07:36.72 command that these stones become bread." 00:07:36.75\00:07:39.19 I want to pause that for a moment, 00:07:39.22\00:07:40.56 because what we see is we see the spirit of the devil, 00:07:40.59\00:07:43.12 he has that questioning spirit. 00:07:43.16\00:07:45.03 When you start questioning who God is 00:07:45.06\00:07:48.60 and what God's word is saying, 00:07:48.63\00:07:50.17 and you become skeptical 00:07:50.20\00:07:51.90 and you're approaching it in a way of doubt. 00:07:51.93\00:07:54.80 This is nothing but the spirit of the devil 00:07:54.84\00:07:56.30 because we see here 00:07:56.34\00:07:57.67 that coming out of that previous experience, 00:07:57.71\00:07:59.57 where the Father says "This is My Son." 00:07:59.61\00:08:01.71 Now we have the devil showing up saying, 00:08:01.74\00:08:03.41 "If you're the Son..." 00:08:03.45\00:08:04.81 You know, "If you're the Son of God..." 00:08:04.85\00:08:06.18 You know, he's questioning it. "Are you really? 00:08:06.21\00:08:07.85 If you are, then do this, then do this. 00:08:07.88\00:08:09.65 Hey, I'll give you this if you do this, 00:08:09.68\00:08:11.52 if you really are the Son of God." 00:08:11.55\00:08:14.06 And so that spirit of doubt and skepticism 00:08:14.09\00:08:17.06 as it comes straight from the devil, 00:08:17.09\00:08:18.59 we see that the devil is tempting Jesus 00:08:18.63\00:08:20.73 in a very weakened state, 00:08:20.76\00:08:22.36 even though He is the Son of God, 00:08:22.40\00:08:23.73 and He's robed in sinful flesh, 00:08:23.77\00:08:25.70 He's fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. 00:08:25.73\00:08:28.07 And so notice what it says here in verse 4, 00:08:28.10\00:08:29.94 this is our memory text. 00:08:29.97\00:08:31.84 "But He answered and said, 'It is written, 00:08:31.87\00:08:34.64 man shall not live by bread alone, 00:08:34.68\00:08:36.48 but by every word 00:08:36.51\00:08:37.91 that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" 00:08:37.95\00:08:40.68 So right out the gate, 00:08:40.72\00:08:42.45 we see Jesus is pointing back to the power 00:08:42.48\00:08:45.45 and divine influence of the Word of God. 00:08:45.49\00:08:48.32 Right out the front He's saying, "You know what, 00:08:48.36\00:08:49.82 let me set you in your place. 00:08:49.86\00:08:51.19 It is written." Notice what the Bible says. 00:08:51.23\00:08:53.90 "In a way He is establishing 00:08:53.93\00:08:55.60 His perspective on the authority 00:08:55.63\00:08:57.73 that the Word of God has in one's life." 00:08:57.77\00:09:00.30 So He knows He's about to be tempted by the devil. 00:09:00.34\00:09:03.24 He's already establishing the premise 00:09:03.27\00:09:05.07 on which how this conversation is going to go. 00:09:05.11\00:09:07.41 "Look, I'm going... 00:09:07.44\00:09:08.78 Jesus, I'm going to establish the Word of God, 00:09:08.81\00:09:10.31 I'm going to fight You with the Word of God 00:09:10.35\00:09:12.35 because the Word of God has power." 00:09:12.38\00:09:14.32 Notice verse 5 that says, 00:09:14.35\00:09:15.68 "Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, 00:09:15.72\00:09:17.82 set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 00:09:17.85\00:09:19.99 and said to Him..." 00:09:20.02\00:09:21.36 Here it is, again, "If you are the Son of God, 00:09:21.39\00:09:24.26 throw yourself down for it is written." 00:09:24.29\00:09:26.96 Oh. 00:09:27.00\00:09:29.36 What do we see the devil doing? 00:09:29.40\00:09:30.73 He's like, "Oh, okay, you wanna, 00:09:30.77\00:09:32.13 you want to have a little bit of a duel 00:09:32.17\00:09:34.80 talking about scripture, quoting scripture? 00:09:34.84\00:09:36.40 Okay, it is written..." Now the devil, 00:09:36.44\00:09:38.24 the devil knows the Word of God, my friends, 00:09:38.27\00:09:40.04 I just want to make that clear. 00:09:40.08\00:09:41.41 Don't think for one moment 00:09:41.44\00:09:42.78 that you can outsmart the devil. 00:09:42.81\00:09:44.15 He knows the Bible more than you do. 00:09:44.18\00:09:45.51 And so notice how he's trying to use the Bible 00:09:45.55\00:09:48.08 and manipulate Christ into getting... 00:09:48.12\00:09:50.29 doing what he wants Him to do. 00:09:50.32\00:09:52.09 But of course, he's not successful. 00:09:52.12\00:09:53.46 He says, "If you are the Son of God, 00:09:53.49\00:09:54.99 throw yourself down for it is written, 00:09:55.02\00:09:57.23 'He shall give His angels charge over you. 00:09:57.26\00:10:00.06 And in their hands, they shall bear you up, 00:10:00.10\00:10:02.50 lest you dash your foot against a stone.'" 00:10:02.53\00:10:06.47 So here we see the sin of presumption on display. 00:10:06.50\00:10:11.07 We see the devil is in no doubt 00:10:11.11\00:10:13.07 questioning the divinity of Jesus, 00:10:13.11\00:10:15.04 and is willing to go as far as to presumptuously, 00:10:15.08\00:10:18.51 quote and misrepresent God's Word 00:10:18.55\00:10:20.78 in order to deceive Jesus into giving up His mission. 00:10:20.82\00:10:24.12 What would have happened if Jesus would have done that? 00:10:24.15\00:10:26.69 You and I wouldn't be here. No. 00:10:26.72\00:10:28.12 Praise God that Jesus was firm in foundation 00:10:28.16\00:10:30.79 in the Word of God, that, 00:10:30.83\00:10:32.59 you know, the devil was not able to overcome Him. 00:10:32.63\00:10:34.30 But we see that the devil is even willing 00:10:34.33\00:10:36.67 to use scripture to manipulate God's people 00:10:36.70\00:10:39.80 and deceiving them into leaving the church, 00:10:39.83\00:10:42.80 leaving the mission, abandoning their faith. 00:10:42.84\00:10:45.14 And that's exactly what we see happening here. 00:10:45.17\00:10:46.88 Notice on verse 7, it says, Jesus said to him, 00:10:46.91\00:10:49.18 "It is written again 'You shall not tempt the Lord 00:10:49.21\00:10:51.28 your God.'" 00:10:51.31\00:10:52.65 And so again it says, 00:10:52.68\00:10:54.02 "The devil took Him up to an exceedingly high mountain 00:10:54.05\00:10:55.68 and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world 00:10:55.72\00:10:57.85 and their glory and he said to Him, 00:10:57.89\00:10:59.72 'All these things I will give to You 00:10:59.75\00:11:01.76 if you will fall down and worship me.'" 00:11:01.79\00:11:04.43 We see this theme all the way through the Bible, 00:11:04.46\00:11:06.13 especially in the closing ones. 00:11:06.16\00:11:08.00 In the Book of Revelation, what is it all about? 00:11:08.03\00:11:10.63 In these last days that we're living, 00:11:10.67\00:11:12.27 it's about who you worship. 00:11:12.30\00:11:13.94 And we see that the devil was, I mean, while he's very smart, 00:11:13.97\00:11:17.67 he's also somewhat ignorant because he thinks 00:11:17.71\00:11:19.61 he can actually get the Son of God, 00:11:19.64\00:11:21.38 the creator of the universe, to bow down and worship him. 00:11:21.41\00:11:24.95 But notice Jesus' response, I love it, verse 10, 00:11:24.98\00:11:27.15 then Jesus said to him, 00:11:27.18\00:11:28.52 "Away with you, Satan, for it is written, 00:11:28.55\00:11:31.72 'You shall worship the Lord your God 00:11:31.75\00:11:33.42 and Him only you shall serve.'" 00:11:33.46\00:11:36.46 Then the devil left Him, and behold, 00:11:36.49\00:11:38.79 angels came and ministered to Him. 00:11:38.83\00:11:40.26 I think there's a lesson we can learn here. 00:11:40.30\00:11:42.13 And that when the devil brings temptation to your life 00:11:42.16\00:11:45.03 and into your life, you quote scripture, 00:11:45.07\00:11:47.34 you allow the Word of God to be your defense. 00:11:47.37\00:11:49.40 And the Bible teaches us here 00:11:49.44\00:11:50.94 that the devil will flee from you, 00:11:50.97\00:11:52.67 because he has no power over you. 00:11:52.71\00:11:54.74 Does worship in the Word of God have any connection? 00:11:54.78\00:12:00.18 I believe we see Jesus clearly making the connection 00:12:00.22\00:12:03.08 that one, notice this, cannot experience true worship 00:12:03.12\00:12:07.92 separate from faith in the Word of God. 00:12:07.96\00:12:11.26 You know, faith comes by hearing 00:12:11.29\00:12:12.63 and hearing by the... 00:12:12.66\00:12:14.00 By the word of God, 00:12:14.03\00:12:15.36 and if we're going to worship Him in spirit, 00:12:15.40\00:12:16.73 and in truth, we cannot separate the two. 00:12:16.77\00:12:19.23 And there's a lot of people, my heart breaks, 00:12:19.27\00:12:21.27 because I grew up going to different churches, 00:12:21.30\00:12:23.27 experiencing different faiths, 00:12:23.30\00:12:25.14 studying with different denominations. 00:12:25.17\00:12:27.01 And how many brothers and sisters 00:12:27.04\00:12:28.44 are lost in the faith, 00:12:28.48\00:12:30.05 thinking that they can have a worshipful experience 00:12:30.08\00:12:33.95 with God but yet deny His word, push back the truth. 00:12:33.98\00:12:37.55 And we see that that is not the case here. 00:12:37.59\00:12:39.75 When tempted with the glory of the world, 00:12:39.79\00:12:42.49 Christ wants us back to the one who alone deserves worship, 00:12:42.52\00:12:46.49 and it always comes 00:12:46.53\00:12:47.86 within the context of the truth of God's Word. 00:12:47.90\00:12:50.40 Notice this, notice what Jesus did not do 00:12:50.43\00:12:53.44 in the encounter with Satan. 00:12:53.47\00:12:55.94 Notice that He did not engage Himself 00:12:55.97\00:12:58.21 in some battle of the opinions. 00:12:58.24\00:13:02.24 Notice He didn't engage 00:13:02.28\00:13:03.71 in some convoluted heated argument. 00:13:03.75\00:13:06.38 Notice how you don't have... 00:13:06.41\00:13:07.75 You don't have a record here of them 00:13:07.78\00:13:09.12 just going back and forth that he said, he said, 00:13:09.15\00:13:10.82 this says, this says, and, 00:13:10.85\00:13:12.19 you know, He simply allowed the Word of God 00:13:12.22\00:13:14.16 to be His defense. 00:13:14.19\00:13:15.52 And this brings a text, a powerful text in my mind 00:13:15.56\00:13:18.69 in the closing moments I have here, 00:13:18.73\00:13:20.06 I just want to establish this. 00:13:20.10\00:13:21.50 We are counseled in the Word of God 00:13:21.53\00:13:23.16 to put on the whole armor of God. 00:13:23.20\00:13:24.80 Amen. That's right. 00:13:24.83\00:13:26.17 And what is a part of that armor? 00:13:26.20\00:13:27.54 What does armor do? 00:13:27.57\00:13:28.90 Armor protects you, it protects you. 00:13:28.94\00:13:30.41 It's a defense, it helps to keep you safe. 00:13:30.44\00:13:32.81 Notice Ephesians 6:17, again, a part of that armor it says, 00:13:32.84\00:13:37.28 "And take the helmet of salvation." 00:13:37.31\00:13:40.38 And then notice this next one, "And the sword of the spirit, 00:13:40.42\00:13:43.62 which is the Word of God. 00:13:43.65\00:13:44.99 That Jesus have the sword of the spirit with Him 00:13:45.02\00:13:47.66 when He was contending with the devil 00:13:47.69\00:13:49.32 there in the wilderness. 00:13:49.36\00:13:50.69 Absolutely. 00:13:50.73\00:13:52.06 But I just want to make this clear. 00:13:52.09\00:13:53.43 The sword of the spirit was never intended 00:13:53.46\00:13:55.00 to be an offensive weapon. 00:13:55.03\00:13:58.13 The Word of God 00:13:58.17\00:13:59.50 was never intended to be an offensive weapon, 00:13:59.53\00:14:01.34 but a defensive weapon against the attacks of Satan. 00:14:01.37\00:14:04.54 So while we need to exercise faith in the Lord 00:14:04.57\00:14:06.61 and His work, 00:14:06.64\00:14:07.98 we don't go out beating people over the head with truth. 00:14:08.01\00:14:10.75 We use it to defend ourselves from the wiles of the devil 00:14:10.78\00:14:14.42 all the while representing Jesus rightfully 00:14:14.45\00:14:16.89 and upholding the truth for the world. 00:14:16.92\00:14:19.22 Amen. 00:14:19.25\00:14:20.59 Praise the Lord. 00:14:20.62\00:14:21.96 Now it's a good foundation once again. 00:14:21.99\00:14:23.53 Praise the Lord. Thanks. Thanks. 00:14:23.56\00:14:24.89 Amen. Praise God for that. 00:14:24.93\00:14:26.26 He always gets the praise, doesn't He? 00:14:26.29\00:14:27.63 It always comes back to God, that's the way it should be. 00:14:27.66\00:14:30.00 In our lesson, I have Monday's lesson. 00:14:30.03\00:14:31.50 So again, we pray that you have your book 00:14:31.53\00:14:33.10 and your pencil and paper and following along here. 00:14:33.13\00:14:35.60 Because our lesson just starts in with a question, 00:14:35.64\00:14:38.47 I like that. 00:14:38.51\00:14:40.11 But once again, it said, "Jesus and the law, 00:14:40.14\00:14:42.74 Jesus and the law." 00:14:42.78\00:14:44.11 You've set a good foundation for that 00:14:44.15\00:14:45.48 because of obedience and doing what God has said in His Word. 00:14:45.51\00:14:47.88 There's three passages 00:14:47.92\00:14:49.25 that the Monday's lesson gives out to us. 00:14:49.28\00:14:52.02 And I'll just tell you up front, 00:14:52.05\00:14:53.96 we're not gonna have time for all three of them. 00:14:53.99\00:14:55.99 All right. That's good. 00:14:56.02\00:14:57.46 Because the one that we're going to be looking 00:14:57.49\00:14:59.19 at Matthew Chapter 5, 00:14:59.23\00:15:00.86 that Chapter 5 is a book of the Beatitudes too, 00:15:00.90\00:15:03.37 isn't it? 00:15:03.40\00:15:04.73 How Jesus brings this into obedience 00:15:04.77\00:15:07.87 and His children into obedience here 00:15:07.90\00:15:09.74 through Matthew Chapter 5. 00:15:09.77\00:15:11.51 But if I was going to just give one Bible passage of scripture 00:15:11.54\00:15:15.44 to say Jesus and the law, 00:15:15.48\00:15:17.35 yours may be different and that's okay. 00:15:17.38\00:15:20.18 But the one I thought about there, 00:15:20.22\00:15:21.55 I think the Holy Spirit is that Isaiah 40:8. 00:15:21.58\00:15:26.42 What's Jesus' attitude toward the law. 00:15:26.45\00:15:28.32 You know, I think another question 00:15:28.36\00:15:30.23 was that how are you going to ask Jesus? 00:15:30.26\00:15:32.16 Well, I ask Him and then you get into His word. 00:15:32.19\00:15:34.10 So His Word tells us here. 00:15:34.13\00:15:35.66 It says, "I delight to do thy..." 00:15:35.70\00:15:38.03 Will. 00:15:38.07\00:15:39.40 "What is thy will, O God, yea, thy law is within," what? 00:15:39.43\00:15:43.37 My heart. "Within my heart." 00:15:43.41\00:15:44.74 Jesus and the law. 00:15:44.77\00:15:46.11 So if I had one minute or a minute and a half, 00:15:46.14\00:15:47.48 which I've already been at right now, 00:15:47.51\00:15:48.84 I just give you this passage of scripture 00:15:48.88\00:15:50.21 and say that's exactly how Jesus felt about it. 00:15:50.25\00:15:52.81 This is good solid foundation, I'd like to do thy will, 00:15:52.85\00:15:56.72 O God, yea thy law is within my heart. 00:15:56.75\00:15:58.62 Turn with me if you will to Matthew 00:15:58.65\00:15:59.99 because the question is asked here talk about a... 00:16:00.02\00:16:03.09 What Jesus thinks in a Scripture? 00:16:03.12\00:16:05.49 What did He teach? What does He think? 00:16:05.53\00:16:07.10 What's our obligation? 00:16:07.13\00:16:08.46 Matthew 5:17-20. 00:16:08.50\00:16:10.90 There's a little bit of reading here 00:16:10.93\00:16:12.27 but it requires it. 00:16:12.30\00:16:13.64 In case you haven't read it, you know what? 00:16:13.67\00:16:15.14 Sometime I take it for granted. 00:16:15.17\00:16:16.50 Some lady wrote the other day and said, 'For Pete's sake, 00:16:16.54\00:16:18.74 you know, you just jump into something 00:16:18.77\00:16:20.11 you start talking about, 00:16:20.14\00:16:21.54 you know, this and that 00:16:21.58\00:16:22.91 and like everybody knows already 00:16:22.94\00:16:25.31 and I wanted to say back real quick 00:16:25.35\00:16:26.85 and I want to be nice about it. 00:16:26.88\00:16:28.78 Well, it's because maybe you didn't tune 00:16:28.82\00:16:30.69 in to the first four... 00:16:30.72\00:16:32.05 before, before that. 00:16:32.09\00:16:33.99 Anybody here ever do a series? 00:16:34.02\00:16:35.36 You've done a series and sometimes you do 00:16:35.39\00:16:36.73 one, two and then you try to give a little, 00:16:36.76\00:16:38.56 you know, background of what you covered. 00:16:38.59\00:16:40.73 But sometimes it gets a lot deeper as it goes, 00:16:40.76\00:16:43.23 does it not? 00:16:43.26\00:16:44.60 So it's very difficult but, you know, bless your heart, 00:16:44.63\00:16:46.30 at least you're writing and you're watching. 00:16:46.33\00:16:47.77 Keep doing that. 00:16:47.80\00:16:49.14 Passage of scripture, Matthew 5:17-20, 00:16:49.17\00:16:51.17 we're going to read Jesus said, 00:16:51.21\00:16:53.01 "Think not that I'm come to," what? 00:16:53.04\00:16:54.54 Destroy. 00:16:54.58\00:16:55.91 "Destroy the law or the prophets, 00:16:55.94\00:16:57.28 I'm not come to destroy, but to fulfill." 00:16:57.31\00:16:59.55 Isn't that one of the most... 00:16:59.58\00:17:01.95 Can I say popular? Powerful. 00:17:01.98\00:17:03.32 That's right. And powerful, good scripture. 00:17:03.35\00:17:05.62 Right that we used many times. 00:17:05.65\00:17:07.52 You know, when we're talking about Jesus 00:17:07.56\00:17:09.09 because the world says what? 00:17:09.12\00:17:10.73 He came to... 00:17:10.76\00:17:12.09 Destroy it. Destroy it. 00:17:12.13\00:17:13.46 Fulfill with, you know, do away with it, what I hear, 00:17:13.50\00:17:15.43 but Jesus is simply puts around the line right quick, 00:17:15.46\00:17:18.00 "I didn't come to destroy." 00:17:18.03\00:17:19.47 So I'm kind of wondering where the good arguments come in. 00:17:19.50\00:17:23.20 I mean, where are you going to argue the point 00:17:23.24\00:17:25.07 "Think not that I'm come to destroy the law." 00:17:25.11\00:17:27.81 I'm like you said, well, there's somebody said here, 00:17:27.84\00:17:29.91 I just checked it off said that's it. 00:17:29.94\00:17:32.18 End of discussion because that's what, 00:17:32.21\00:17:33.98 that's what Jesus said right here. 00:17:34.02\00:17:35.65 Now, but I want you to pay close attention 00:17:35.68\00:17:37.29 to the word but. 00:17:37.32\00:17:38.65 Notice, I am not come to destroy but," to what? 00:17:38.69\00:17:41.66 Fulfill. 00:17:41.69\00:17:43.02 But to fulfill, just keep that in your mind. 00:17:43.06\00:17:44.39 I'm circling my notes here but to fulfill 00:17:44.43\00:17:46.49 because that comes back 00:17:46.53\00:17:47.86 and gives us a couple of thoughts there. 00:17:47.90\00:17:49.60 Verse 18, "For verily I say unto you..." Who's speaking? 00:17:49.63\00:17:52.47 Jesus. 00:17:52.50\00:17:53.84 Jesus said, he says right here. 00:17:53.87\00:17:55.20 Again, how clear does it need to be. 00:17:55.24\00:17:56.64 "Till heaven and earth pass, 00:17:56.67\00:17:58.01 one jot or one title shell in no wise pass from the law 00:17:58.04\00:18:02.88 till all be fulfilled." 00:18:02.91\00:18:05.31 Again, people are picking out trying to get one word 00:18:05.35\00:18:07.18 and make it say something that doesn't mean... 00:18:07.22\00:18:08.65 out of context. 00:18:08.68\00:18:10.02 Verse 19, 00:18:10.05\00:18:11.39 "Whosoever therefore shall break 00:18:11.42\00:18:12.75 one of the least commandments, 00:18:12.79\00:18:15.66 and teach men so he shall be called the least 00:18:15.69\00:18:18.99 in the kingdom of heaven. 00:18:19.03\00:18:20.63 I've heard it say people will get there 00:18:20.66\00:18:22.00 where they keep God's law or not, 00:18:22.03\00:18:23.40 because they will be one of the least. 00:18:23.43\00:18:25.53 Kind of an interesting thought, 00:18:25.57\00:18:26.90 we don't quite agree with that you see, 00:18:26.94\00:18:28.27 but if you've probably heard that too. 00:18:28.30\00:18:29.64 Notice what is says. 00:18:29.67\00:18:31.01 The same shall be called great if you're doing what? 00:18:31.04\00:18:33.04 Those who are teaching them, verse 20, says, 00:18:33.07\00:18:35.34 "For I say unto you, 00:18:35.38\00:18:37.31 that accept your righteousness,"" do what? 00:18:37.35\00:18:39.45 Exceed. 00:18:39.48\00:18:40.82 "Exceed the righteousness of the scribes 00:18:40.85\00:18:42.78 and the Pharisees, 00:18:42.82\00:18:44.22 you shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of God." 00:18:44.25\00:18:47.06 So here's Jesus in proclaiming or telling you 00:18:47.09\00:18:49.36 what He thinks about the law and how He's living it out 00:18:49.39\00:18:51.99 and the word could fulfilled here. 00:18:52.03\00:18:53.83 He's talking about there, 00:18:53.86\00:18:55.20 you're not going to enter into the kingdom of God. 00:18:55.23\00:18:57.83 I might say it's just plainly, if we're willing, 00:18:57.87\00:18:59.93 willfully breaking the law of God. 00:18:59.97\00:19:01.80 There's something here in the Beatitudes, Matthew 5, 00:19:01.84\00:19:04.37 that lets us know. 00:19:04.41\00:19:05.74 Jesus said, "Don't think I've come to," what? 00:19:05.77\00:19:07.68 Destroy. "To destroy." 00:19:07.71\00:19:09.34 And that word there it means I didn't come to loosen it. 00:19:09.38\00:19:12.31 I didn't come to annul it, I didn't come to, 00:19:12.35\00:19:14.98 you know, just to invalidate, 00:19:15.02\00:19:16.99 you know, we talk about the verse 00:19:17.02\00:19:18.55 not abolish it. 00:19:18.59\00:19:19.92 He said, "I didn't come to abolish it. 00:19:19.95\00:19:21.56 I didn't come to annul it at all here. 00:19:21.59\00:19:24.26 He said, this includes, 00:19:24.29\00:19:25.63 this would include all of God's revealed will, 00:19:25.66\00:19:27.33 would it not right? 00:19:27.36\00:19:28.70 Everything in the Word of God, not just the law of God, 00:19:28.73\00:19:30.47 Ten Commandments or whatever. 00:19:30.50\00:19:31.83 But all, all the words that we've been studying here. 00:19:31.87\00:19:34.04 In Psalms 119:1, just quickly I'm going to read. 00:19:34.07\00:19:36.74 It says, Psalm 119:1 says, "Blessed are the undefiled." 00:19:36.77\00:19:41.44 Now the undefiled would be the perfect, 00:19:41.48\00:19:43.04 would it not? 00:19:43.08\00:19:44.41 Therefore are the perfect, that's what it mean, are one, 00:19:44.45\00:19:46.28 or in this sense, the sincere ones, 00:19:46.31\00:19:48.82 blessed are the sincere ones in the way 00:19:48.85\00:19:51.89 who walk in the law of God. 00:19:51.92\00:19:54.66 Remember Jesus, and the way He approached law, 00:19:54.69\00:19:56.76 and what He thinks about law. 00:19:56.79\00:19:58.13 Notice God's 'cause "Blessed are those 00:19:58.16\00:20:00.53 who walk in the way of the law." 00:20:00.56\00:20:03.03 Not outside of it, not around it, 00:20:03.06\00:20:04.67 not through it, but in the way of the Lord. 00:20:04.70\00:20:06.40 Psalms 119:4, 00:20:06.43\00:20:08.30 "Thou has commanded us 00:20:08.34\00:20:10.01 to keep the precepts diligently." 00:20:10.04\00:20:12.87 How do we keep them? Diligently. 00:20:12.91\00:20:14.54 Diligently, not loosely. 00:20:14.58\00:20:15.91 Context, we'll be studying that more as we go on. 00:20:15.94\00:20:18.21 The context here indicates 00:20:18.25\00:20:19.71 that Jesus refers primarily to the moral law, 00:20:19.75\00:20:23.65 but also to the mosaic that we're talking Moses law, 00:20:23.69\00:20:27.02 civil statutes, and so on, contained in the Book of Moses. 00:20:27.06\00:20:30.59 And so that is confirmed by the prophets, 00:20:30.63\00:20:32.86 Desire of Ages say, page 307. 00:20:32.89\00:20:36.26 So we find this, if you're jotting down, say, 00:20:36.30\00:20:38.03 well, where does it say that in Matthew Chapter 5? 00:20:38.07\00:20:40.57 In Matthew Chapter 5, 00:20:40.60\00:20:41.94 we're going to read verses 21 and 27, 00:20:41.97\00:20:44.54 talks about Jesus taking some precepts 00:20:44.57\00:20:47.31 from the moral law. 00:20:47.34\00:20:48.74 And then if you look at verses 33, 38 and 43, 00:20:48.78\00:20:52.81 He's talking about the laws of Moses. 00:20:52.85\00:20:56.55 So God is making a great contrast here 00:20:56.58\00:20:59.72 of what the scribes were saying, 00:20:59.75\00:21:01.52 and Jesus just brought it out, 00:21:01.56\00:21:02.89 should we or should we not sometime... 00:21:02.92\00:21:04.39 We have to confirm sometime, 00:21:04.43\00:21:05.76 but we want to do it in the right way, 00:21:05.79\00:21:07.13 in the loving way. 00:21:07.16\00:21:08.50 Because you... 00:21:08.53\00:21:09.86 because people just make a comment and they go on. 00:21:09.90\00:21:11.23 What if we let them go on 00:21:11.27\00:21:12.60 believing what they just said to you, 00:21:12.63\00:21:14.04 there'll be a way by the grace of God again, 00:21:14.07\00:21:16.07 when a brother and sister not to drive them away. 00:21:16.10\00:21:18.74 Jesus makes it very clear, 00:21:18.77\00:21:20.68 He said, notice this right here, there... 00:21:20.71\00:21:23.31 "You are the ones that's making void the law of God." 00:21:23.35\00:21:25.81 He said, "I didn't come, right, to do away with it. 00:21:25.85\00:21:27.65 You are the one." 00:21:27.68\00:21:29.02 So He pointed a finger, did He not? 00:21:29.05\00:21:30.69 By destroying the law 00:21:30.72\00:21:32.05 by your traditions in Matthew 15:6 says this, 00:21:32.09\00:21:36.09 but He answered and said to them, 00:21:36.12\00:21:37.59 "Why do you transgress the commandment of God 00:21:37.63\00:21:41.16 by your tradition?" 00:21:41.20\00:21:42.56 Way too much tradition out there, the world has a, 00:21:42.60\00:21:45.30 you know, we thought about almost like the backbone, 00:21:45.33\00:21:47.04 if I might say that sometime. 00:21:47.07\00:21:49.04 They simply say, "Our church, we go by tradition." 00:21:49.07\00:21:52.67 You know, by tradition, 00:21:52.71\00:21:54.04 and we should be saying we go by the Word of God, 00:21:54.08\00:21:56.11 the unadulterated, right? 00:21:56.14\00:21:57.48 The Word of God. 00:21:57.51\00:21:58.85 This is what we set up there. 00:21:58.88\00:22:00.22 This is what we by the grace of God want to approach 00:22:00.25\00:22:01.98 but today's tradition. 00:22:02.02\00:22:03.85 Now again you may be you've done that, 00:22:03.89\00:22:05.22 you didn't know any better but today you're learning 00:22:05.25\00:22:06.59 aren't you from the Word of God here? 00:22:06.62\00:22:08.26 Jesus, He spake of His coming to fulfill, 00:22:08.29\00:22:11.06 I want to get this in the law and the prophets. 00:22:11.09\00:22:13.73 A part of that fulfillment would be what? 00:22:13.76\00:22:16.16 Would be in the types and the ritual law 00:22:16.20\00:22:19.23 that pointed to His coming. 00:22:19.27\00:22:21.94 And certainly through the fulfillment 00:22:21.97\00:22:23.67 of the Messianic predictions throughout the whole Bible. 00:22:23.71\00:22:27.54 Praise God for that. Luke 24:44 says this. 00:22:27.58\00:22:30.78 "And He said unto them, 00:22:30.81\00:22:32.15 'These are the words that I spake unto you, 00:22:32.18\00:22:34.78 while I was yet with you. 00:22:34.82\00:22:36.58 That all things must be what?' 00:22:36.62\00:22:38.95 He said, 'Fulfilled which were written 00:22:38.99\00:22:41.12 in the law of Moses, 00:22:41.16\00:22:42.49 in the prophets, and in the Psalms, what? 00:22:42.52\00:22:44.53 Concerning Me. 00:22:44.56\00:22:46.36 Jesus said, He came to what? 00:22:46.39\00:22:48.06 To fulfill here, to make full, to feel up. 00:22:48.10\00:22:51.73 Jesus was the great lawgiver. 00:22:51.77\00:22:53.94 He wrote it on stone, right? 00:22:53.97\00:22:55.37 In stone, on stone, inside and outside. 00:22:55.40\00:22:58.41 Now on the Sermon of the Mount, notice this, 00:22:58.44\00:23:00.38 we've been talking about Matthew Chapter 5, 00:23:00.41\00:23:02.48 He makes it clear that His law is binding, 00:23:02.51\00:23:05.95 notice, on those who would be His disciples. 00:23:05.98\00:23:08.62 This is a good argument, 00:23:08.65\00:23:09.98 we say within the right way with this passage 00:23:10.02\00:23:12.39 and that He says here, that He... 00:23:12.42\00:23:14.46 This would be binding on those who calls Him, if you could, 00:23:14.49\00:23:17.09 you say I'm a disciple of Christ, 00:23:17.13\00:23:18.56 then the law of God is binding here, notice. 00:23:18.59\00:23:21.10 Then He goes on to say, "Anyone..." 00:23:21.13\00:23:22.73 make it clear, 00:23:22.76\00:23:24.10 "Anyone who tries to do away with it, 00:23:24.13\00:23:25.70 tries to annul it by precept or example, 00:23:25.73\00:23:28.44 Jesus said here would not what in, 00:23:28.47\00:23:30.97 notice this, in no case. 00:23:31.01\00:23:33.51 He said, "In no case 00:23:33.54\00:23:34.88 will they enter in the kingdom of heaven." 00:23:34.91\00:23:36.54 Matthew 5:20. 00:23:36.58\00:23:38.21 So when using this, you know, passage of scripture, 00:23:38.25\00:23:40.42 God has certainly tell us the position of Christ, 00:23:40.45\00:23:43.59 He wouldn't do away with the law. 00:23:43.62\00:23:44.95 He came to fulfill it out, 00:23:44.99\00:23:46.32 and live it out in His life to fill it 00:23:46.35\00:23:47.69 full of meaning and power for us today. 00:23:47.72\00:23:50.36 You know, what is Jesus' attitude toward the law? 00:23:50.39\00:23:52.73 You know, He said, He came to live it out for us. 00:23:52.76\00:23:55.86 He said, "Kenny, I come to set an example for you 00:23:55.90\00:23:57.83 because you need an example." 00:23:57.87\00:23:59.43 Not only in reading it and being reminded by others 00:23:59.47\00:24:01.64 but you need to be by the power of the Holy Spirit 00:24:01.67\00:24:04.01 needs to remind us day by days 00:24:04.04\00:24:05.94 of the soon coming of Jesus Christ. 00:24:05.97\00:24:08.28 And what Jesus says this truth in His Word. 00:24:08.31\00:24:11.91 I want that in my life. 00:24:11.95\00:24:13.38 I want to know what truth is, even if it demands a change. 00:24:13.42\00:24:16.25 How about you? Do you love Jesus? 00:24:16.28\00:24:18.09 If you do, you want to know truth, 00:24:18.12\00:24:19.45 you want to put it in your heart and your life, 00:24:19.49\00:24:20.82 it will change you and transform you. 00:24:20.86\00:24:22.42 Oh, wow. 00:25:04.73\00:25:07.34 We're gonna pass it on to Miss Jill Morikone 00:25:07.37\00:25:09.10 for Tuesday's lesson. 00:25:09.14\00:25:10.64 Thank you so much, Pastor Ryan and Pastor Kenny, 00:25:10.67\00:25:12.94 what an incredible study so far. 00:25:12.97\00:25:15.64 I love looking at the Word of God. 00:25:15.68\00:25:17.41 Tuesday's lesson, we have Jesus and all Scripture. 00:25:17.45\00:25:22.35 Really it's how Jesus taught from the Scripture 00:25:22.38\00:25:24.65 and how He encouraged His disciples 00:25:24.69\00:25:26.86 to do the same thing. 00:25:26.89\00:25:28.82 Jesus validated the authority of Scripture 00:25:28.86\00:25:31.79 throughout His entire life on earth. 00:25:31.83\00:25:33.93 He used the authority to overcome temptation 00:25:33.96\00:25:36.16 as, Pastor Ryan, you did such a beautiful job with that. 00:25:36.20\00:25:38.77 He used the authority of Scripture 00:25:38.80\00:25:40.57 to teach the gospel and the plan of salvation. 00:25:40.60\00:25:44.94 We see that with a rich young ruler, 00:25:44.97\00:25:46.47 He's imparting that, the gospel to him. 00:25:46.51\00:25:49.31 He used the authority of Scripture 00:25:49.34\00:25:50.68 to instruct in righteousness 00:25:50.71\00:25:52.91 as, Pastor Kenny talked about. 00:25:52.95\00:25:54.62 Matthew 5:6, 7, the Sermon on the Mount. 00:25:54.65\00:25:58.35 He used the authority of Scripture 00:25:58.39\00:25:59.85 to prove His divinity 00:25:59.89\00:26:01.42 and teach the prophecies even concerning Himself. 00:26:01.46\00:26:05.79 We see that in the walk to Emmaus 00:26:05.83\00:26:07.60 and that's what Tuesday's lesson is about. 00:26:07.63\00:26:09.83 So turn with me to Luke Chapter 24. 00:26:09.86\00:26:12.70 Luke Chapter 24. 00:26:12.73\00:26:15.20 We're going to divide this section into six parts. 00:26:15.24\00:26:18.41 So the six parts, I'll tell you what they are ahead of time, 00:26:18.44\00:26:21.68 and then we'll jump into it. 00:26:21.71\00:26:23.45 Part one is disappointment. 00:26:23.48\00:26:25.78 Part two is disguise. 00:26:25.81\00:26:28.68 Part three, recitation. 00:26:28.72\00:26:31.29 Part four, rationale. 00:26:31.32\00:26:33.92 Part five, discernment. 00:26:33.96\00:26:36.22 And part six, delight. 00:26:36.26\00:26:38.89 So let's go to part one. 00:26:38.93\00:26:40.26 This is disappointment. 00:26:40.30\00:26:42.23 Now the story is told of a little boy 00:26:42.26\00:26:44.13 who was from Texas, 00:26:44.17\00:26:45.50 and he was going with his family 00:26:45.53\00:26:46.94 to visit the Grand Canyon. 00:26:46.97\00:26:49.74 And his parents told him, "Now be prepared. 00:26:49.77\00:26:52.17 This is huge. 00:26:52.21\00:26:53.54 It's even bigger than the city of Dallas." 00:26:53.58\00:26:56.18 And he got there and he saw the Grand Canyon 00:26:56.21\00:26:58.15 and then his mom and dad said, 00:26:58.18\00:26:59.51 "Hey, what do you think about it." 00:26:59.55\00:27:01.18 And he had all frown on his face. 00:27:01.22\00:27:03.18 And he said, "I thought you said it was a big cannon." 00:27:03.22\00:27:07.56 He thought he's looking for a cannon 00:27:07.59\00:27:09.79 that's even bigger than the city of Dallas. 00:27:09.82\00:27:12.69 You see, if your expectations are wrong, 00:27:12.73\00:27:15.53 you could become disappointed. 00:27:15.56\00:27:18.97 If your expectations are wrong, 00:27:19.00\00:27:20.44 you could even be disappointed by God Himself. 00:27:20.47\00:27:24.17 And this is what we see with the disciples here 00:27:24.21\00:27:28.14 on the way to Emmaus. 00:27:28.18\00:27:30.11 Their expectations were such 00:27:30.15\00:27:32.28 that they thought the Messiah was coming 00:27:32.31\00:27:34.55 as a conquering King. 00:27:34.58\00:27:36.08 They didn't understand 00:27:36.12\00:27:37.45 He was coming as the suffering servant, 00:27:37.49\00:27:39.59 the lamb who would die for their sins. 00:27:39.62\00:27:42.29 Their expectations were wrong 00:27:42.32\00:27:43.96 and they were disappointed even by Jesus. 00:27:43.99\00:27:47.06 Let's look at verses 13 and 14. 00:27:47.10\00:27:48.93 We are in Luke 24:13, 14. 00:27:48.96\00:27:51.03 This is part one, the disappointment. 00:27:51.07\00:27:53.44 "Now behold, two of them were travelling 00:27:53.47\00:27:54.90 that same day to a village called Emmaus, 00:27:54.94\00:27:57.74 which was seven miles from Jerusalem. 00:27:57.77\00:28:00.64 And they talk together of all these things 00:28:00.68\00:28:02.98 that had happened." 00:28:03.01\00:28:04.35 Now as we go into the story 00:28:04.38\00:28:05.71 we discover the things they talked about. 00:28:05.75\00:28:07.95 Were the fact that Jesus was crucified 00:28:07.98\00:28:10.25 and they thought He was going to be their King 00:28:10.29\00:28:12.42 and their Conqueror, and yet He was dead. 00:28:12.45\00:28:16.22 They were walking to Emmaus, 00:28:16.26\00:28:17.63 which means, Pastor John, hot water. 00:28:17.66\00:28:20.70 It's about seven miles from Jerusalem. 00:28:20.73\00:28:23.20 Let's go to part two. This is the disguise. 00:28:23.23\00:28:26.63 Verse 15, 16. 00:28:26.67\00:28:28.57 "So it was while they conversed and reasoned 00:28:28.60\00:28:30.37 that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them, 00:28:30.41\00:28:34.31 but their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him." 00:28:34.34\00:28:40.12 They failed to recognize Jesus. 00:28:40.15\00:28:43.15 Had they known Jesus before? 00:28:43.18\00:28:44.69 Absolutely. 00:28:44.72\00:28:46.15 And yet here He is walking with them, 00:28:46.19\00:28:48.92 and they did not even recognize Him. 00:28:48.96\00:28:51.36 Why didn't they know Him? 00:28:51.39\00:28:52.73 I think there's two reasons. 00:28:52.76\00:28:54.10 There might be more, 00:28:54.13\00:28:55.46 but we'll just talk about two reasons today. 00:28:55.50\00:28:56.83 First reason could be that they were so hurt, 00:28:56.87\00:28:59.63 so disappointed, so clouded with grief 00:28:59.67\00:29:04.24 that they failed to recognize Him. 00:29:04.27\00:29:06.88 You know, this tells on myself, 00:29:06.91\00:29:08.74 part of my job is to sign off on like purchases. 00:29:08.78\00:29:12.05 Someone came in my office and handed me something, 00:29:12.08\00:29:14.02 and this particular day I was going through stuff 00:29:14.05\00:29:17.09 and I was not even paying attention. 00:29:17.12\00:29:19.12 I was just praying and thinking and so the person walked in 00:29:19.15\00:29:22.79 and I put my initials and handed it back. 00:29:22.82\00:29:25.76 Well, the next day I saw the same person and I said, 00:29:25.79\00:29:28.53 "Did you ever get your tickets for such and such?" 00:29:28.56\00:29:31.00 And they said, "That's what you signed off on yesterday. 00:29:31.03\00:29:33.17 I brought it to you and you signed off." 00:29:33.20\00:29:35.14 You see, you can be so absorbed in things in your own mind 00:29:35.17\00:29:39.87 that you fail to recognize. 00:29:39.91\00:29:41.54 They were so absorbed, 00:29:41.58\00:29:42.91 they failed to recognize their savior. 00:29:42.94\00:29:44.48 The second reason could be 00:29:44.51\00:29:45.85 that the Holy Spirit veiled Jesus, 00:29:45.88\00:29:49.92 so that they would base their knowledge 00:29:49.95\00:29:51.75 on the Word of God, not on experience. 00:29:51.79\00:29:56.32 We see this in 2 Peter 1. 00:29:56.36\00:29:58.39 2 Peter 1:16. 00:29:58.43\00:30:00.16 Peter tells us, 00:30:00.20\00:30:01.53 "We did not follow cunningly devised fables. 00:30:01.56\00:30:04.43 When we made known to you the power 00:30:04.47\00:30:06.00 and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 00:30:06.03\00:30:07.97 But were eye witnesses of His majesty." 00:30:08.00\00:30:12.07 So what does he say here? 00:30:12.11\00:30:13.44 He says, we were eyewitnesses. 00:30:13.48\00:30:15.28 We walked and talked with Jesus, we observed Him. 00:30:15.31\00:30:18.81 But then you jump to verse 19. 00:30:18.85\00:30:21.05 And it says, "We have the prophetic word confirmed, 00:30:21.08\00:30:24.69 which you do well to heed as a light 00:30:24.72\00:30:26.39 that shines in a dark place." 00:30:26.42\00:30:27.76 Now King James says, 00:30:27.79\00:30:29.19 we have the more sure word of prophecy. 00:30:29.22\00:30:33.96 Translation if you take it straight from Greek, 00:30:34.00\00:30:35.93 it can almost say that we have the prophetic word 00:30:35.96\00:30:38.33 more fully confirmed. 00:30:38.37\00:30:40.60 So what is Peter saying here? 00:30:40.64\00:30:41.97 He's saying experience is wonderful. 00:30:42.00\00:30:45.44 But you don't trust experience above the Word of God. 00:30:45.47\00:30:47.98 The Word of God always comes above experience. 00:30:48.01\00:30:52.31 And Jesus might have veiled Himself 00:30:52.35\00:30:55.62 so that the disciples had to understand 00:30:55.65\00:30:58.99 what He was going to teach them from the Word of God. 00:30:59.02\00:31:02.09 And then that goes even above our experience 00:31:02.12\00:31:06.53 and what our senses tell us. 00:31:06.56\00:31:08.60 God's Word is even more infallible, 00:31:08.63\00:31:10.57 because experience is subject to human emotions, 00:31:10.60\00:31:13.23 to outside influences, 00:31:13.27\00:31:14.77 or even the deception of the enemy. 00:31:14.80\00:31:17.17 Let's look at part three. 00:31:17.21\00:31:18.54 This is recitation. 00:31:18.57\00:31:20.44 This is their recitation of their troubles. 00:31:20.48\00:31:23.01 Verses 17- 24, "And Jesus said to them, 00:31:23.04\00:31:26.01 'What kind of conversation is this 00:31:26.05\00:31:27.88 that you have with one another as you walk and are sad.' 00:31:27.92\00:31:31.25 Then the one whose name was Cleopas 00:31:31.29\00:31:33.02 answered and said to Him, 00:31:33.05\00:31:34.39 'Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem? 00:31:34.42\00:31:36.29 And have you not known the things 00:31:36.32\00:31:37.83 which happened there in these days?' 00:31:37.86\00:31:40.06 And He said to them, 'What things?' 00:31:40.10\00:31:42.16 So they said to Him 00:31:42.20\00:31:43.53 'The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, 00:31:43.57\00:31:45.37 who was a prophet mighty in deed 00:31:45.40\00:31:46.94 and word before God and all the people, 00:31:46.97\00:31:49.80 and how the chief priests and rulers delivered Him 00:31:49.84\00:31:52.07 to be condemned to death and crucified Him, 00:31:52.11\00:31:54.64 but we were hoping 00:31:54.68\00:31:56.01 that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. 00:31:56.04\00:31:58.71 Indeed, besides all this, 00:31:58.75\00:32:00.08 today's the third day since these things happened.'" 00:32:00.12\00:32:03.25 How many times have you recalled your trials? 00:32:03.28\00:32:05.62 How many times have you sat back 00:32:05.65\00:32:07.12 and recited the troubles that you have encountered? 00:32:07.16\00:32:11.16 But they did it in front of Jesus. 00:32:11.19\00:32:13.26 They recited their troubles in front of Jesus. 00:32:13.29\00:32:15.76 Part four is the rationale. 00:32:15.80\00:32:18.33 This is Jesus giving the more sure word of prophecy. 00:32:18.37\00:32:21.87 Jesus giving the biblical reason and proof 00:32:21.90\00:32:24.64 that Jesus is the suffering Messiah. 00:32:24.67\00:32:28.58 Verses 25-27, "He said to them, 'Oh, foolish ones, 00:32:28.61\00:32:32.65 and slow of heart 00:32:32.68\00:32:34.02 to believe in all that the prophets have spoken. 00:32:34.05\00:32:36.48 Ought not the Christ who have suffered these things 00:32:36.52\00:32:39.02 and to enter into His glory. 00:32:39.05\00:32:41.09 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, 00:32:41.12\00:32:43.86 He expounded to them in all the scriptures, 00:32:43.89\00:32:45.93 the things concerning Himself.'" 00:32:45.96\00:32:47.86 They got a Bible study 00:32:47.90\00:32:49.23 from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. 00:32:49.26\00:32:51.73 You think about there's at least 00:32:51.77\00:32:53.37 300 Messianic prophecies in the Old Testament. 00:32:53.40\00:32:56.64 We don't know which ones Jesus referred to, 00:32:56.67\00:32:58.54 but I'm sure there were many that He referred to. 00:32:58.57\00:33:01.28 I think of Isaiah 53, 00:33:01.31\00:33:02.81 clearly that passage talks about the coming Messiah, 00:33:02.84\00:33:05.61 the suffering servant. 00:33:05.65\00:33:07.88 Part five is discernment. 00:33:07.92\00:33:09.25 This is when the disciples recognized who Jesus was. 00:33:09.28\00:33:13.72 And we see that when Jesus sat at the table with them, 00:33:13.76\00:33:17.19 He broke the bread and blessed it. 00:33:17.23\00:33:19.26 And their eyes were open and they recognized Him, 00:33:19.29\00:33:21.83 and part six is delight. 00:33:21.86\00:33:24.57 They rose that very hour. 00:33:24.60\00:33:26.03 They're not tired after their seven mile journey. 00:33:26.07\00:33:28.34 They're eager to get back to Jerusalem. 00:33:28.37\00:33:32.47 So what is our call as Christians today, 00:33:32.51\00:33:35.28 as Danny always says, "It's to go ye." 00:33:35.31\00:33:38.45 Matthew 28, we're going to end there. 00:33:38.48\00:33:40.52 Matthew 28:18-20. 00:33:40.55\00:33:43.02 In our call I see three things, power is given, 00:33:43.05\00:33:47.19 the commission is given, and then the promise is given. 00:33:47.22\00:33:52.26 Let's look at the power. 00:33:52.29\00:33:53.63 Verse 18, "Jesus came and said to them, 00:33:53.66\00:33:55.40 'All authority...'" 00:33:55.43\00:33:57.40 In Greek, exousia. 00:33:57.43\00:33:58.97 "All authority has been given to Me in heaven 00:33:59.00\00:34:01.07 and on earth.'" 00:34:01.10\00:34:02.44 You can have responsibility and that might mean something. 00:34:02.47\00:34:05.84 You can have authority, 00:34:05.87\00:34:07.44 that definitely means something. 00:34:07.48\00:34:09.14 But when you have authority and responsibilities, 00:34:09.18\00:34:12.51 that means everything. 00:34:12.55\00:34:14.28 The great commission is authority coming from God, 00:34:14.32\00:34:17.42 from Jesus Himself to us as the disciples, 00:34:17.45\00:34:20.32 combined with a responsibility to share this message 00:34:20.36\00:34:23.93 with a lost and dying world. 00:34:23.96\00:34:25.69 The commission given is fourfold "Go." 00:34:25.73\00:34:29.26 That's the first step. 00:34:29.30\00:34:30.63 "Go, get out of yourself and go." 00:34:30.67\00:34:33.80 What do we do? Make disciples. 00:34:33.84\00:34:36.44 Go and disciple, then baptize, 00:34:36.47\00:34:40.84 that shows there's some instruction 00:34:40.88\00:34:42.44 to take place before the baptism 00:34:42.48\00:34:44.71 and finally, teaching them to observe all things. 00:34:44.75\00:34:48.18 So there is nurturing 00:34:48.22\00:34:49.55 that takes place even after the baptism, 00:34:49.58\00:34:51.99 and then we have the promise, 00:34:52.02\00:34:53.69 "Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." 00:34:53.72\00:34:58.99 The presence of Jesus is promised to the believers, 00:34:59.03\00:35:01.30 to be with us at all times, in all places and everywhere. 00:35:01.33\00:35:05.27 So that commission, the power's given, 00:35:05.30\00:35:07.67 the commission's given, 00:35:07.70\00:35:09.04 and then the promise is given that He's with us always. 00:35:09.07\00:35:12.64 Wow. I'll thank you, Jill. 00:35:12.67\00:35:14.51 Thank you so much for that. 00:35:14.54\00:35:17.08 Pastor Kenny, Pastor Ryan, and Jill laid some foundation 00:35:17.11\00:35:20.25 and we're asking the question Jesus and the Origin 00:35:20.28\00:35:23.39 and History of the Bible. 00:35:23.42\00:35:25.19 You know, one of the questions that was asked, what is... 00:35:25.22\00:35:27.69 What did Jesus and the apostles think about history? 00:35:27.72\00:35:31.46 Well, you know, 00:35:31.49\00:35:32.83 let's see what we can confirm from reading the scriptures. 00:35:32.86\00:35:36.43 When we think about history, and we think about Jesus, 00:35:36.46\00:35:38.70 a couple of points I want to bring out 00:35:38.73\00:35:40.07 in the very beginning, history... 00:35:40.10\00:35:43.24 History did not precede Jesus. 00:35:43.27\00:35:47.01 Jesus preceded history. 00:35:47.04\00:35:50.31 You know, a lot of think that His story, 00:35:50.35\00:35:53.11 Jesus, it's His story. 00:35:53.15\00:35:55.25 That's what history is all about. 00:35:55.28\00:35:57.19 And Jesus didn't come forth from history. 00:35:57.22\00:36:00.52 History came forth from Jesus. 00:36:00.56\00:36:03.83 And so when you think 00:36:03.86\00:36:05.19 about that we look back in human history. 00:36:05.23\00:36:06.59 Now, one of the things that really shows the validity, 00:36:06.63\00:36:09.23 Danny, of Jesus, and the fact that He is in fact the Christ 00:36:09.26\00:36:13.34 is you can be atheist, agnostic, 00:36:13.37\00:36:15.47 you don't even have to be a believer. 00:36:15.50\00:36:17.57 But each one of us lives by the same calendar, 00:36:17.61\00:36:21.24 anna Domina, in the year of our Lord. 00:36:21.28\00:36:24.25 So let's begin by saying it is a fact 00:36:24.28\00:36:27.48 whether you think He is a good man or a prophet, 00:36:27.52\00:36:29.95 or just a teacher, or rabbi, 00:36:29.98\00:36:32.29 whatever the category you may put Him in. 00:36:32.32\00:36:34.72 Jesus is in fact, a figure of human history. 00:36:34.76\00:36:38.63 And the big question is, where is He? 00:36:38.66\00:36:40.70 That's why we as Christians believe we know where He is, 00:36:40.73\00:36:44.00 based on His Word confirmed to made more sure. 00:36:44.03\00:36:47.30 But there are a few things 00:36:47.34\00:36:48.67 that were brought out in the lesson. 00:36:48.70\00:36:50.04 And I want to just kind of lead into that question, 00:36:50.07\00:36:52.14 because the writers of this lesson 00:36:52.17\00:36:55.81 asked the question, 00:36:55.84\00:36:57.18 how did Jesus understand the historical persons 00:36:57.21\00:36:59.85 and events of the Bible? 00:36:59.88\00:37:01.75 We smiled about that 00:37:01.78\00:37:03.12 and I think I get to answer that very quickly, clearly. 00:37:03.15\00:37:06.92 Clearly. 00:37:06.96\00:37:08.46 Now I can't say that about the apostles necessarily, 00:37:08.49\00:37:12.23 but Jesus understood it clearly. 00:37:12.26\00:37:14.90 It's up to us to understand it as clearly as He did. 00:37:14.93\00:37:18.30 That's why He communicates this to us. 00:37:18.33\00:37:19.93 But there are a couple of examples 00:37:19.97\00:37:21.30 that are brought out, 00:37:21.34\00:37:22.67 which shows that Jesus acknowledges. 00:37:22.70\00:37:25.67 This is really an amazing thing. 00:37:25.71\00:37:27.28 Jesus acknowledges history, 00:37:27.31\00:37:30.38 as it unfolded on the heels of His own prognostication. 00:37:30.41\00:37:33.75 He said, this is what's going to happen. 00:37:33.78\00:37:36.08 And He set the world in motion, 00:37:36.12\00:37:38.19 but He did not leave it as some automaton 00:37:38.22\00:37:40.66 to just spin out things that He put there. 00:37:40.69\00:37:43.06 He left us with freewill. 00:37:43.09\00:37:45.03 And it's amazing to me 00:37:45.06\00:37:46.39 that all the things happen as they did, 00:37:46.43\00:37:48.63 through individuals of freewill. 00:37:48.66\00:37:51.23 A couple of examples brought out, 00:37:51.27\00:37:52.60 let's look at Matthew 12:3, 4. 00:37:52.63\00:37:55.37 Matthew 12:3, 4. 00:37:55.40\00:37:57.77 Examples of how Jesus looks at history 00:37:57.81\00:38:00.28 and stands behind it. 00:38:00.31\00:38:01.94 The Bible says, "But He said to them, 00:38:01.98\00:38:05.01 'Have you not read what David did when he was hungry? 00:38:05.05\00:38:08.68 He and those who were with him. 00:38:08.72\00:38:10.62 How he entered the house of God and ate the showbread, 00:38:10.65\00:38:13.09 which was not lawful for him to eat, 00:38:13.12\00:38:16.19 nor for those who were with him, 00:38:16.22\00:38:18.13 but only for the priests?'" 00:38:18.16\00:38:19.76 Well, first of all, 00:38:19.79\00:38:21.13 we are going to bring out a point 00:38:21.16\00:38:22.50 after reading a couple of these verses 00:38:22.53\00:38:23.87 about three more. 00:38:23.90\00:38:25.23 But right away Jesus confirms the existence of David 00:38:25.27\00:38:27.90 and the showbread and why not? 00:38:27.94\00:38:30.84 Because Jesus is of the lineage of David, 00:38:30.87\00:38:34.24 to deny him is to deny His own lineage. 00:38:34.28\00:38:38.38 Jesus has an amazing lineage 00:38:38.41\00:38:40.52 and Rahab the harlot is in His lineage. 00:38:40.55\00:38:43.89 So what that says to me is, people can ask... 00:38:43.92\00:38:47.16 People have asked the question, can a bad... 00:38:47.19\00:38:49.76 Can a good thing come out of a bad thing? 00:38:49.79\00:38:52.16 When divinity is involved, He makes all things good. 00:38:52.19\00:38:56.36 Not only that, Matthew 10:6-8, 00:38:56.40\00:38:58.50 another reference of Jesus to history. 00:38:58.53\00:39:01.00 Matthew 10:6-8, "Jesus says, 00:39:01.04\00:39:03.51 'But go rather to the lost sheep 00:39:03.54\00:39:05.61 of the house of Israel. 00:39:05.64\00:39:07.51 And as you go, preach, saying, 00:39:07.54\00:39:10.01 the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 00:39:10.05\00:39:12.15 Heal the sick, cleanse the leper, 00:39:12.18\00:39:15.15 raise the dead, cast out demons. 00:39:15.18\00:39:18.15 Freely you have received and freely give.'" 00:39:18.19\00:39:22.72 Right here, Jesus refers to Israel. 00:39:22.76\00:39:25.09 Well, who is He? The King of Israel. 00:39:25.13\00:39:27.66 Israel, meaning overcomers. 00:39:27.70\00:39:30.00 We cannot overcome except through Christ, 00:39:30.03\00:39:33.07 changing the name from Jacob an individual to Israel, 00:39:33.10\00:39:37.34 an entire nation. 00:39:37.37\00:39:38.84 And he intended for Israel 00:39:38.87\00:39:40.21 not to be just a nation of people, 00:39:40.24\00:39:42.74 but a nation that displays how through Christ, 00:39:42.78\00:39:46.45 each one of us can overcome, but He acknowledged Israel. 00:39:46.48\00:39:49.52 Israel is an Old Testament reference. 00:39:49.55\00:39:51.05 And by the way, when Jesus walked the earth, 00:39:51.09\00:39:54.59 there was no New Testament. 00:39:54.62\00:39:56.36 That's right. That's right. 00:39:56.39\00:39:57.73 Thank you. Third point, Luke 4:25-27. 00:39:57.76\00:40:02.36 Look at one another, another acknowledgement, 00:40:02.40\00:40:05.30 another acknowledgement. 00:40:05.33\00:40:07.27 All right, it says, 00:40:07.30\00:40:08.74 "But I tell you truly many widows were in Israel 00:40:08.77\00:40:11.07 in the days of Elijah, 00:40:11.11\00:40:12.51 when the heavens were shut up three years and six months, 00:40:12.54\00:40:15.38 and there was a great famine throughout all the land, 00:40:15.41\00:40:17.65 but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, 00:40:17.68\00:40:22.62 in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 00:40:22.65\00:40:25.65 And many lepers were in Israel 00:40:25.69\00:40:27.22 in the time of Elisha the prophet, 00:40:27.26\00:40:29.29 and none of them were cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." 00:40:29.32\00:40:32.49 Two lepers of the Bible, Naaman was a leper, 00:40:32.53\00:40:35.00 Uzzaiah became a leper. 00:40:35.03\00:40:36.36 But once again, 00:40:36.40\00:40:37.73 Jesus looks back into the pages of history. 00:40:37.77\00:40:39.70 And I like the fact that when Jesus is standing 00:40:39.73\00:40:41.64 in the presence of the wise men, 00:40:41.67\00:40:43.00 the Pharisees, not so wise, 00:40:43.04\00:40:44.84 let me take that statement back. 00:40:44.87\00:40:46.64 He talked about Abraham, and he... 00:40:46.68\00:40:49.24 They said, "You're barely 50. 00:40:49.28\00:40:51.11 Are you 50... Are you even 50 years old?" 00:40:51.15\00:40:54.18 He said, he said, 00:40:54.22\00:40:56.15 'How can you be greater than our Father Abraham? 00:40:56.18\00:40:58.65 And He said, blew me away. 00:40:58.69\00:41:00.82 "Before Abraham was, I am." 00:41:00.86\00:41:03.89 And they took pride in searching the Bible. 00:41:03.93\00:41:06.70 And He's standing right next to them. 00:41:06.73\00:41:09.46 And they're searching the scriptures 00:41:09.50\00:41:11.27 and John 5:39 was a passage that we often quote, 00:41:11.30\00:41:14.67 to encourage people to read the Bible, 00:41:14.70\00:41:16.67 which we could use that but I want to give the caution 00:41:16.71\00:41:18.81 that Jesus gave in that very passage. 00:41:18.84\00:41:21.24 He said, "You search the scriptures for in them 00:41:21.28\00:41:23.78 you think you find eternal life." 00:41:23.81\00:41:26.45 But these are they that testify of Me. 00:41:26.48\00:41:28.82 In other words, I'm right here. 00:41:28.85\00:41:31.65 So many of us could read the Bible 00:41:31.69\00:41:33.02 and so when you study the Bible, 00:41:33.05\00:41:34.82 don't read the Bible just for information, 00:41:34.86\00:41:36.62 read the Bible looking for Christ 00:41:36.66\00:41:38.09 because the Pharisees and the religious leaders 00:41:38.13\00:41:40.80 read the Bible to great knowledge 00:41:40.83\00:41:42.63 and all that they had accrued 00:41:42.66\00:41:44.37 based on what they read in the Bible, 00:41:44.40\00:41:45.73 but they missed Christ. 00:41:45.77\00:41:47.10 So Bible knowledge is not enough. 00:41:47.14\00:41:48.54 And, Jill, that, you know, that, 00:41:48.57\00:41:50.44 that's my story right there. 00:41:50.47\00:41:51.81 Not that I wrote it, 00:41:51.84\00:41:53.17 but the road to Emmaus meaning is possible 00:41:53.21\00:41:55.51 to have all the facts about Jesus 00:41:55.54\00:41:58.68 and not even know Him. 00:41:58.71\00:42:00.22 Because Jesus, when He spoke to them, 00:42:00.25\00:42:02.45 He began with Moses and the prophets 00:42:02.48\00:42:04.45 and expounded to them all the things 00:42:04.49\00:42:07.46 in the scriptures concerning Himself. 00:42:07.49\00:42:08.89 So Bible knowledge is not enough. 00:42:08.92\00:42:11.73 If we can communicate anything, 00:42:11.76\00:42:13.26 it's important to study your Bible. 00:42:13.29\00:42:14.70 But it's important more than that, to study your Bible, 00:42:14.73\00:42:18.10 asking, show me the Christ, and you'll see Him. 00:42:18.13\00:42:21.07 Now when you study all these references, 00:42:21.10\00:42:22.64 I want to bring out a few more. 00:42:22.67\00:42:24.91 In Luke 11:51, is another one brought up by the writers. 00:42:24.94\00:42:29.78 He refers to, He says, 00:42:29.81\00:42:31.88 "From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, 00:42:31.91\00:42:34.72 who perished between the altar and the temple, 00:42:34.75\00:42:36.52 yes, I say to you, 00:42:36.55\00:42:38.25 it shall be required of this generation." 00:42:38.29\00:42:40.86 Now once again, He goes back 00:42:40.89\00:42:42.22 and what's being brought up by the Bible writers here 00:42:42.26\00:42:45.39 is instead of Jesus just making reference 00:42:45.43\00:42:47.26 to the generation of His time, 00:42:47.30\00:42:49.06 He's continually going back into the past 00:42:49.10\00:42:52.63 and recounting and what amazes me 00:42:52.67\00:42:55.44 is He's doing this 00:42:55.47\00:42:56.81 in the presence of religious men 00:42:56.84\00:42:59.01 that are probably saying "He's not a rabbi. 00:42:59.04\00:43:02.34 He's not from our school. 00:43:02.38\00:43:04.61 How does He know this?" 00:43:04.65\00:43:06.31 It doesn't dawn on them that He knows this 00:43:06.35\00:43:08.08 because He's the Christ. 00:43:08.12\00:43:09.48 That's why He's doing this. 00:43:09.52\00:43:10.85 And if you look at what the Bible writers 00:43:10.89\00:43:12.22 are bringing out, 00:43:12.25\00:43:13.59 over and over here they're bringing 00:43:13.62\00:43:14.96 that particular point out. 00:43:14.99\00:43:16.32 And lastly, He brings out an event 00:43:16.36\00:43:17.69 that's farther back then even the rabbi's, 00:43:17.73\00:43:19.76 the days of Noah, Matthew 24:38, 00:43:19.79\00:43:22.16 "For as in the days before the flood, 00:43:22.20\00:43:23.57 they were eating and drinking 00:43:23.60\00:43:24.93 and marrying and giving in marriage 00:43:24.97\00:43:26.30 until the day that Noah entered the ark." 00:43:26.33\00:43:28.87 And the flood came and took them all away. 00:43:28.90\00:43:30.51 And then he says, "So also will it be in the days 00:43:30.54\00:43:32.51 when the son of Man is revealed." 00:43:32.54\00:43:33.94 Said, Son of man, 00:43:33.98\00:43:35.31 who are you to speak on that authority? 00:43:35.34\00:43:36.81 Once again, "I was there, I gave no other message." 00:43:36.85\00:43:40.05 So He makes it clear, 00:43:40.08\00:43:41.42 but one of the points that are brought out 00:43:41.45\00:43:42.78 and the writer is the question how? 00:43:42.82\00:43:46.12 How? 00:43:46.15\00:43:47.49 How could this continue to be a point 00:43:47.52\00:43:49.52 that's brought up by Christ? 00:43:49.56\00:43:51.13 How could this continue to be a point 00:43:51.16\00:43:52.89 that is being made? 00:43:52.93\00:43:54.26 Well, the point that is being made clearly, 00:43:54.30\00:43:56.36 how is Jesus is in fact the beginning and the end. 00:43:56.40\00:44:01.00 And I want to bring out something 00:44:01.04\00:44:02.37 that's pointed out to the Bible writers, 00:44:02.40\00:44:04.44 they said, "How is it possible 00:44:04.47\00:44:06.17 that these could continue to come forth from Jesus?" 00:44:06.21\00:44:08.54 Well, here is the answer. 00:44:08.58\00:44:11.88 In the beginning was the Word... 00:44:11.91\00:44:13.31 Okay. Amen. 00:44:13.35\00:44:14.68 That's right. 00:44:14.72\00:44:16.05 In the beginning was the Word and, you know, the rest. 00:44:16.08\00:44:18.32 The Word was with God and the Word was God. 00:44:18.35\00:44:20.49 The same was in the beginning with God. 00:44:20.52\00:44:22.99 When you walk in the Word, you walk with the Word. 00:44:23.02\00:44:28.16 When you begin studying the Bible, 00:44:28.20\00:44:30.80 you begin in the beginning with the one 00:44:30.83\00:44:32.73 who wrote the Bible. 00:44:32.77\00:44:34.14 So let me encourage you, in the beginning was the Word. 00:44:34.17\00:44:36.87 And so as one caution I want to give you 00:44:36.91\00:44:39.94 and this is in Ephesians 4:14. 00:44:39.97\00:44:43.91 One of the challenges 00:44:43.95\00:44:45.28 that we are brought in by the Apostle Paul is do that, 00:44:45.31\00:44:50.19 "That we should no longer be children tossed to and fro, 00:44:50.22\00:44:54.16 and carried about with every wind of doctrine 00:44:54.19\00:44:56.36 by the trickery of men 00:44:56.39\00:44:58.06 and the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting." 00:44:58.09\00:45:01.73 You'll never be a victim of those who plot deceitfully 00:45:01.76\00:45:05.23 when you study the Bible 00:45:05.27\00:45:06.60 with a desire to walk with the author of the Word. 00:45:06.63\00:45:09.07 Don't be surprised by what you learn 00:45:09.10\00:45:11.51 because Jesus is in fact, the living word. 00:45:11.54\00:45:14.78 Amen. Amen. 00:45:14.81\00:45:16.51 Thank you. 00:45:16.54\00:45:17.88 I'm so thankful for the Sabbath School lesson for each person 00:45:17.91\00:45:21.05 what you bring out. 00:45:21.08\00:45:22.68 When I first looked at it, 00:45:22.72\00:45:24.99 Jesus and the Apostles' View of the Bible, 00:45:25.02\00:45:27.59 it's like, is this something we really need to talk about? 00:45:27.62\00:45:30.16 I mean, we know what it is. 00:45:30.19\00:45:32.69 But then I began to look at it. 00:45:32.73\00:45:34.20 I said, this sounds a little elementary, 00:45:34.23\00:45:36.20 let me get into this. 00:45:36.23\00:45:37.57 And probably I won't ask if you all thought that. 00:45:37.60\00:45:39.53 But when you get into it, of course, 00:45:39.57\00:45:41.20 we find out you go a little deeper. 00:45:41.24\00:45:43.27 There's some great stuff in here. 00:45:43.30\00:45:45.34 But the one thing is, that's interesting to me, 00:45:45.37\00:45:47.58 the reason we're even having to deal with this 00:45:47.61\00:45:49.81 is because of the attitude of Christians today. 00:45:49.84\00:45:53.31 And we... 00:45:53.35\00:45:54.68 If you just read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, 00:45:54.72\00:45:59.39 there's going to be no question at all 00:45:59.42\00:46:02.02 "Is all of the Bible valid? 00:46:02.06\00:46:04.06 Is the Old Testament done away with? 00:46:04.09\00:46:05.69 Were the Ten Commandments nailed to the cross? 00:46:05.73\00:46:07.46 You'll never come up with that on your own really. 00:46:07.50\00:46:10.27 And I remember Richard Bland told me, he said, 00:46:10.30\00:46:12.33 "When I go into prisons, 00:46:12.37\00:46:14.37 and I talk to the people in the prisons, 00:46:14.40\00:46:16.84 they've never heard the name of God outside, 00:46:16.87\00:46:19.21 many of those, outside of a curse word. 00:46:19.24\00:46:22.31 We give them a Bible. 00:46:22.34\00:46:24.11 And I come back a few months later, 00:46:24.15\00:46:26.51 and when we begin to talk, they don't say, 00:46:26.55\00:46:29.55 "Oh, I wonder what day we go to church? 00:46:29.58\00:46:32.25 Where's the Ten Commandments nailed to the cross? 00:46:32.29\00:46:35.22 Wonder what happens to you when you die?' 00:46:35.26\00:46:36.79 He said 'They know all the answers.'" 00:46:36.83\00:46:38.16 You know why? 00:46:38.19\00:46:39.53 'Cause it's right there in scripture. 00:46:39.56\00:46:40.90 So because of that, 00:46:40.93\00:46:42.26 I think we do need to look at and confirm that Jesus, 00:46:42.30\00:46:46.53 and of course the apostles, I mean, 00:46:46.57\00:46:48.57 how could Jesus not affirm the Old Testament 00:46:48.60\00:46:50.57 when He's the God of the Old Testament, right? 00:46:50.61\00:46:52.94 So when we look at this... 00:46:52.97\00:46:54.44 So I said, "Okay, let's go through some of it." 00:46:54.48\00:46:56.61 Says... 00:46:56.64\00:46:57.98 The lesson says, 00:46:58.01\00:46:59.35 "We find that the New Testament writers approached the Bible 00:46:59.38\00:47:01.38 in the same way that Jesus does. 00:47:01.42\00:47:03.28 In matters of doctrine, ethics and prophetic fulfillment, 00:47:03.32\00:47:06.69 the Old Testament for them 00:47:06.72\00:47:08.09 was the authoritative Word of God. 00:47:08.12\00:47:10.23 We find nothing anywhere 00:47:10.26\00:47:11.96 and what these men say or do that challenges 00:47:11.99\00:47:15.03 either the authority 00:47:15.06\00:47:16.77 or the authenticity of any part of the Bible." 00:47:16.80\00:47:20.84 So I just put here there's too far too many Christians 00:47:20.87\00:47:23.10 who are too quick to explain away. 00:47:23.14\00:47:25.24 Why the Old Testaments no longer valid 00:47:25.27\00:47:27.88 in today's society. 00:47:27.91\00:47:29.24 They say, "How about this? 00:47:29.28\00:47:30.75 If any of you heard that? 00:47:30.78\00:47:32.18 Well, I believe the Bible, 00:47:32.21\00:47:33.55 I just don't believe in the Old Testament." 00:47:33.58\00:47:35.18 That's impossible. 00:47:35.22\00:47:36.55 You can't believe the Bible 00:47:36.58\00:47:37.92 if you don't believe in the old, 00:47:37.95\00:47:39.29 Old Testament, right? 00:47:39.32\00:47:40.66 So you have to believe one or believe all. 00:47:40.69\00:47:43.39 Now were there things that were done away with? 00:47:43.43\00:47:45.33 The law of Moses nailed to the cross. 00:47:45.36\00:47:46.86 Of course things like that, but again, 00:47:46.90\00:47:49.03 you have to study and to find 00:47:49.06\00:47:51.77 we're gonna read here a little bit. 00:47:51.80\00:47:53.27 Somebody's already did I think, 2 Timothy 3 in a little bit. 00:47:53.30\00:47:56.57 All scripture is given. 00:47:56.60\00:47:58.07 But I want to say, 00:47:58.11\00:47:59.44 let's see how the apostles viewed the Scripture, 00:47:59.47\00:48:01.81 so we're going to be looking at Acts 4:24-26. 00:48:01.84\00:48:05.85 Acts 13:32-36. 00:48:05.88\00:48:08.25 Romans 9:17, and Galatians 3:8. 00:48:08.28\00:48:11.82 We will see in these passages, 00:48:11.85\00:48:14.02 how closely related these scriptures 00:48:14.06\00:48:16.02 are to the voice of God Himself. 00:48:16.06\00:48:18.79 Okay, in Acts 4, 00:48:18.83\00:48:20.23 just before being filled with the Holy Spirit, 00:48:20.26\00:48:23.26 the disciples praise God 00:48:23.30\00:48:24.83 for the deliverance of Peter and John. 00:48:24.87\00:48:27.20 In their praise, they raise their voices, 00:48:27.24\00:48:29.64 acknowledging God as the creator, 00:48:29.67\00:48:31.71 and for speaking through David, His servant. 00:48:31.74\00:48:34.28 That is, David's words are God's words. 00:48:34.31\00:48:36.98 Now we're looking at how the apostles 00:48:37.01\00:48:40.12 look to the Word of God. 00:48:40.15\00:48:41.55 In Acts 13:32-36, David is quoted again by Paul, 00:48:41.58\00:48:46.79 but his words are attributed to God, for verse 32 says, 00:48:46.82\00:48:50.96 "What God promised, so the Father's." 00:48:50.99\00:48:53.60 That shows you no doubt in Romans 9:17, 00:48:53.63\00:48:57.57 "Where one would expect God as the subject, 00:48:57.60\00:49:00.14 Paul uses the term scripture 00:49:00.17\00:49:03.14 saying for this scripture says to Pharaoh..." 00:49:03.17\00:49:06.21 which could actually be stated, for God says to Pharaoh, 00:49:06.24\00:49:09.78 see how interchangeable. 00:49:09.81\00:49:11.15 That's right. It's all one. 00:49:11.18\00:49:12.51 And Galatians 3:8, the subject, 00:49:12.55\00:49:14.52 "Scripture is used in place of God 00:49:14.55\00:49:16.62 showing just how closely tied to the Word of God, 00:49:16.65\00:49:20.69 it is to God Himself." 00:49:20.72\00:49:22.42 In fact, there are hundreds of quotes 00:49:22.46\00:49:24.13 from the New Testament, quoting the Old Testament. 00:49:24.16\00:49:26.86 I didn't know this one. 00:49:26.90\00:49:28.23 It says one scholar 00:49:28.26\00:49:29.60 compiled a list 00:49:29.63\00:49:30.97 of 2,688 specific references. 00:49:31.00\00:49:35.80 This is amazing to me, 400 from Isaiah, 370 from Psalms, 00:49:35.84\00:49:40.48 and 220 from Exodus and so on. 00:49:40.51\00:49:43.81 So how can you think the Old Testament 00:49:43.85\00:49:47.55 has done away with, the commandments... 00:49:47.58\00:49:49.92 Being quoted 2,688 times in the New Testament 00:49:49.95\00:49:54.66 referring back to the Old Testament 00:49:54.69\00:49:56.93 is already mentioned here that when Jesus was on earth 00:49:56.96\00:50:00.86 and the disciples, the apostles, 00:50:00.90\00:50:02.93 anybody referring back, they were, 00:50:02.96\00:50:05.93 they only had the Old Testament to go by, 00:50:05.97\00:50:07.80 of course, right? 00:50:07.84\00:50:09.17 So these scriptures and many, many more, 00:50:09.20\00:50:11.67 do not support the modern day Christian 00:50:11.71\00:50:13.61 to try to explain away the Old Testament. 00:50:13.64\00:50:16.88 They said yes, when Jesus quoted scripture, 00:50:16.91\00:50:19.78 it was from the Old Testament. 00:50:19.81\00:50:21.58 When the apostles quoted scripture, 00:50:21.62\00:50:23.85 it was from the Old Testament. 00:50:23.89\00:50:26.19 It should be noted that... 00:50:26.22\00:50:27.59 I wrote down, it should be noted 00:50:27.62\00:50:28.96 that the apostles did not try to do away 00:50:28.99\00:50:31.66 with the Old Testament 00:50:31.69\00:50:33.03 even after Jesus was crucified on the cross. 00:50:33.06\00:50:35.53 They still believed and quoted from the Old Testament 00:50:35.56\00:50:38.13 as the Word of God, think about it. 00:50:38.17\00:50:39.90 Jesus or any of the apostles or disciples 00:50:39.93\00:50:42.97 could have openly questioned 00:50:43.00\00:50:44.41 the authority of the Old Testament 00:50:44.44\00:50:45.91 just based on the flawed people 00:50:45.94\00:50:47.88 who wrote them. 00:50:47.91\00:50:49.24 Like David and... 00:50:49.28\00:50:50.61 Oh, wow. And Moses. 00:50:50.65\00:50:52.51 They could have said, "Wait a minute, 00:50:52.55\00:50:54.02 how can that be total authority?" 00:50:54.05\00:50:56.85 I mean, David, look what he did. 00:50:56.89\00:50:58.35 I mean, Moses look killed... 00:50:58.39\00:50:59.82 I mean, look at all of these things, 00:50:59.85\00:51:01.79 but they didn't. 00:51:01.82\00:51:03.16 They knew, they interchanged it, 00:51:03.19\00:51:04.53 this was God speaking through human flesh. 00:51:04.56\00:51:07.23 The beauty of that is today, in our flawed state of mind, 00:51:07.26\00:51:10.87 John, God is willing to use us. 00:51:10.90\00:51:13.20 He's willing to use you, 00:51:13.23\00:51:14.77 each and every one of you to do something great 00:51:14.80\00:51:16.81 and mighty and marvelous, 00:51:16.84\00:51:18.27 when you come in the name of the Lord. 00:51:18.31\00:51:20.18 So the devil would have you say, 00:51:20.21\00:51:22.14 "Oh, well I'm this human being. 00:51:22.18\00:51:24.71 I'm so many mistakes. I can't..." 00:51:24.75\00:51:26.82 Now just read through history as John mentioned. 00:51:26.85\00:51:28.88 Read through the Bible, 00:51:28.92\00:51:30.25 look at some of the characters that God used. 00:51:30.29\00:51:32.22 Hey, they might be as bad as me and you, 00:51:32.25\00:51:34.52 some of these folk. 00:51:34.56\00:51:35.89 But today, don't let the devil deceive you. 00:51:35.92\00:51:38.59 God has something special for you in your life. 00:51:38.63\00:51:42.30 Once again, Jesus, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, 00:51:42.33\00:51:44.93 any of the Bible writers after Jesus' death 00:51:44.97\00:51:47.50 could have criticize, could have condemned, 00:51:47.54\00:51:49.67 they could have tried to do away 00:51:49.70\00:51:51.04 with the authenticity of the Old Testament. 00:51:51.07\00:51:53.94 But here's the good news, they did not. 00:51:53.98\00:51:56.75 The Old Testament scriptures are the foundational... 00:51:56.78\00:52:00.52 are the doctrinal foundation 00:52:00.55\00:52:02.42 upon which the teachings of Jesus and the apostles rest. 00:52:02.45\00:52:06.19 So the books of the New Testament 00:52:06.22\00:52:08.19 are replete with references to the Old Testament prophecies 00:52:08.22\00:52:11.63 that are often introduced with the phrase it is written 00:52:11.66\00:52:15.06 that you already mentioned. 00:52:15.10\00:52:17.23 I won't go through them all but Matthew, Mark, Luke, 00:52:17.27\00:52:20.94 Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Peter, 00:52:20.97\00:52:24.57 you can go on and on. 00:52:24.61\00:52:25.94 All of these are replete, 00:52:25.97\00:52:27.31 they're going back saying it was... 00:52:27.34\00:52:28.91 it is written and going back to where 00:52:28.94\00:52:31.18 and when they say it is written, 00:52:31.21\00:52:32.88 back to the Old Testament. 00:52:32.91\00:52:34.78 How did the apostles and Jesus... 00:52:34.82\00:52:37.32 John said, "Clearly, 00:52:37.35\00:52:38.69 they saw clearly about the Word of God." 00:52:38.72\00:52:41.29 Now 2 Timothy 3:16, 17 was already been quoted 00:52:41.32\00:52:45.89 I think, "All scripture..." how much? 00:52:45.93\00:52:47.90 All. 00:52:47.93\00:52:49.26 "All scripture is been given by..." 00:52:49.30\00:52:51.03 Inspiration. "Inspiration," wow. 00:52:51.07\00:52:54.04 "All scripture is given..." 00:52:54.07\00:52:55.40 So that means it's well thought out. 00:52:55.44\00:52:57.77 When God gave it, He thought about it in advance. 00:52:57.81\00:53:00.71 So we read some of that and say "That just doesn't make sense. 00:53:00.74\00:53:03.18 No, it doesn't make sense to you and me." 00:53:03.21\00:53:05.11 It makes sense to God. 00:53:05.15\00:53:06.48 So whatever is in there, all scripture, 00:53:06.51\00:53:08.48 so we don't take parts of the Bible 00:53:08.52\00:53:10.99 and throw them out because well, 00:53:11.02\00:53:13.12 hey, it's not very clear. 00:53:13.15\00:53:15.06 That doesn't make sense. 00:53:15.09\00:53:16.52 No, God says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, 00:53:16.56\00:53:21.06 and is," what? 00:53:21.10\00:53:22.43 Profitable. 00:53:22.46\00:53:23.80 "Profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, 00:53:23.83\00:53:26.20 for construction, for instruction, 00:53:26.23\00:53:28.14 for righteousness, 00:53:28.17\00:53:29.50 that the man of God may become perfect, 00:53:29.54\00:53:31.87 thoroughly says, furnished unto all good works." 00:53:31.91\00:53:36.44 And I have some friends 00:53:36.48\00:53:37.81 who were raised in another church, 00:53:37.85\00:53:40.12 and you know who they are. 00:53:40.15\00:53:42.28 And Ryan knows some background, but the guy said to me, 00:53:42.32\00:53:44.82 "All we ever did was come to Acts 00:53:44.85\00:53:47.36 and every week we danced on Acts." 00:53:47.39\00:53:49.46 And so the rest of the Bible didn't really mean much to us. 00:53:49.49\00:53:52.29 He says, "It doesn't mean much 00:53:52.33\00:53:53.66 'cause we just want to be happy in the Lord." 00:53:53.70\00:53:56.46 But I want to tell you, that's great to be happy, 00:53:56.50\00:53:58.73 but we have to know and understand the foundation 00:53:58.77\00:54:01.37 because when you don't, there's a reason, 00:54:01.40\00:54:03.94 there's an attack on the Old Testament, 00:54:03.97\00:54:06.31 because in the Old Testament, 00:54:06.34\00:54:07.68 the Ten Commandments were given. 00:54:07.71\00:54:10.25 Now if you can look at them throughout all the Bible, 00:54:10.28\00:54:13.05 and you can go back and see 00:54:13.08\00:54:14.42 that they've been there from the beginning, 00:54:14.45\00:54:15.85 but was given to Moses 00:54:15.88\00:54:17.22 and people hate the Ten Commandments. 00:54:17.25\00:54:19.25 Why? Because they're not keeping them. 00:54:19.29\00:54:21.16 And churches today don't have an answer. 00:54:21.19\00:54:23.63 So they say, "Oh, well, that Old Testament, 00:54:23.66\00:54:25.59 we don't go by that." 00:54:25.63\00:54:26.96 One guy said, 00:54:27.00\00:54:28.33 "I just rip off half of my Bible 00:54:28.36\00:54:29.70 and throw it away 00:54:29.73\00:54:31.07 because I live by the New Testament." 00:54:31.10\00:54:32.73 But I want to tell you something, 00:54:32.77\00:54:34.17 if you live by the New Testament, 00:54:34.20\00:54:36.30 Jesus is the God of the New Testament. 00:54:36.34\00:54:39.34 All of the apostles, 00:54:39.37\00:54:40.71 the disciples that lived in the New Testament, 00:54:40.74\00:54:42.64 they all kept the commandments of God. 00:54:42.68\00:54:44.88 They all believed that all scripture 00:54:44.91\00:54:47.32 and the only scripture they were referring to back 00:54:47.35\00:54:49.88 then they had written them yet was the Old Testament. 00:54:49.92\00:54:53.39 So how did Jesus and again, it's hard to figure Jesus, 00:54:53.42\00:54:57.69 you know, for us to question Jesus 00:54:57.73\00:54:59.39 but of course, the apostles, 00:54:59.43\00:55:01.76 they studied and viewed the Old Testament 00:55:01.80\00:55:05.67 with I'm going to say great confidence, 00:55:05.70\00:55:08.10 great assurance that the God of heaven 00:55:08.14\00:55:10.71 who is serving today and is instructing us today 00:55:10.74\00:55:13.64 has been there from the foundation 00:55:13.68\00:55:15.51 of the earth. 00:55:15.54\00:55:16.88 Wow. Amen. 00:55:16.91\00:55:18.25 Praise the Lord. 00:55:18.28\00:55:19.61 This whole study is just so powerful. 00:55:19.65\00:55:21.38 You know, how to interpret scripture, 00:55:21.42\00:55:23.75 this study was much needed. 00:55:23.79\00:55:26.69 And, you know, I think just of the importance 00:55:26.72\00:55:29.36 of interpreting scripture correctly 00:55:29.39\00:55:30.93 that could determine 00:55:30.96\00:55:32.29 whether or not you know God, it can determine 00:55:32.33\00:55:33.83 whether or not you make it into the kingdom of God. 00:55:33.86\00:55:36.13 That's how important this really is. 00:55:36.16\00:55:38.03 I'm going to go back through the panel 00:55:38.07\00:55:39.40 and let you guys give some final thoughts 00:55:39.43\00:55:40.77 on today's lesson. 00:55:40.80\00:55:42.14 My mind just goes back to Matthew 5, 00:55:42.17\00:55:43.71 where we were talking about here 00:55:43.74\00:55:45.07 Christ addressing the 12 disciples, 00:55:45.11\00:55:46.88 plus those other perspective, 00:55:46.91\00:55:49.14 you know, of entering the kingdom of heaven. 00:55:49.18\00:55:51.25 And He says forth in clear language, 00:55:51.28\00:55:53.15 the high standard of citizenship 00:55:53.18\00:55:56.32 is the law of God. 00:55:56.35\00:55:58.12 That's right. Amen. 00:55:58.15\00:56:00.29 Thank you, Pastor Kenny. 00:56:00.32\00:56:01.82 On Tuesday we talked about Jesus and all scripture. 00:56:01.86\00:56:05.06 Jesus loved the Word of God. 00:56:05.09\00:56:08.26 In Psalm 119, that Psalm on the Word of God, verse 47, 00:56:08.30\00:56:14.14 "I will delight myself in your commandments, 00:56:14.17\00:56:17.37 which I love." 00:56:17.41\00:56:18.74 So God calls us to immerse ourselves in His Word, 00:56:18.77\00:56:21.68 and to love it. 00:56:21.71\00:56:23.04 Amen. That's right. 00:56:23.08\00:56:24.41 And the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:20, 00:56:24.45\00:56:25.91 speaking about the Word of God, it says, 00:56:25.95\00:56:27.62 "For since the creation of the world, 00:56:27.65\00:56:30.39 His invisible attributes are clearly seen, 00:56:30.42\00:56:33.62 being understood by the things that are made, 00:56:33.66\00:56:35.82 even His eternal power and Godhead, 00:56:35.86\00:56:38.79 so that they are without excuse." 00:56:38.83\00:56:40.83 If you study God's Word, 00:56:40.86\00:56:42.20 there'll be no need for an excuse. 00:56:42.23\00:56:43.97 It's clear. Amen. 00:56:44.00\00:56:45.33 Absolutely. 00:56:45.37\00:56:46.70 And my encouragement would be why not take advantage 00:56:46.74\00:56:49.04 of all the blessings of all the Bible? 00:56:49.07\00:56:50.71 Yeah. Right? 00:56:50.74\00:56:52.07 That's right. 00:56:52.11\00:56:53.44 Not just the New Testament, 00:56:53.48\00:56:54.81 let's enjoy all of the Bible again, 00:56:54.84\00:56:56.44 2 Timothy 3:16-17. 00:56:56.48\00:57:00.25 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God." 00:57:00.28\00:57:02.95 That's right. Amen. 00:57:02.98\00:57:04.32 Praise the Lord. 00:57:04.35\00:57:05.69 Pastor, you said something early on in this lesson 00:57:05.72\00:57:07.06 so great. 00:57:07.09\00:57:08.42 Speaking of Jesus and the apostles' view, 00:57:08.46\00:57:09.96 He said, what was Jesus' view? 00:57:09.99\00:57:11.63 He was very clear. 00:57:11.66\00:57:13.83 And, you know, maybe not so much 00:57:13.86\00:57:15.33 for the apostles at one time. 00:57:15.36\00:57:16.80 But, you know, it's so powerful to think, 00:57:16.83\00:57:18.47 as the apostles had a daily encounter with Jesus, 00:57:18.50\00:57:22.20 their spiritual vision got clearer, and clearer, 00:57:22.24\00:57:24.64 and clearer, so that, you know, 00:57:24.67\00:57:26.07 even after Christ was gone, 00:57:26.11\00:57:27.81 they had that daily relationship with Christ. 00:57:27.84\00:57:29.64 They were in the word, their view of the Bible, 00:57:29.68\00:57:32.71 the view of the scripture became clearer, 00:57:32.75\00:57:34.72 and clearer, and clearer. 00:57:34.75\00:57:36.08 And I pray that that's the case for me as well. 00:57:36.12\00:57:37.45 Amen? Amen. 00:57:37.49\00:57:38.82 Praise the Lord. 00:57:38.85\00:57:40.19 Hey, we hope that you join us next week again. 00:57:40.22\00:57:41.56 We've come to the end of this study, 00:57:41.59\00:57:42.92 but we're going to continue on next week for another study, 00:57:42.96\00:57:45.96 lesson four, which is entitled 00:57:45.99\00:57:47.73 "The Bible, the Authoritative source of our Theology." 00:57:47.76\00:57:52.17 We thank you as always for joining us here 00:57:52.20\00:57:54.20 at 3ABN Sabbath School Panel, 00:57:54.24\00:57:56.24 and we hope to see you right here as always, 00:57:56.27\00:57:59.41 next week. 00:57:59.44\00:58:00.81 God bless. Have a good day. 00:58:00.84\00:58:02.24 Amen. 00:58:02.28\00:58:03.61
