Whatever Daniel was shown

really caused him consternation.

He was really concerned about

the implications to it.

that one of the reasons

concerned is because Daniel,

and having experienced
from the prior administration,

and also the administration

under which he was now existing,

he saw the larger picture.

He knew that the people of God
00:05:53.55\00:05:55.02
would receive constant adversity
00:05:55.05\00:05:57.65
as we go to the Book of Ezra
00:05:57.69\00:05:59.02
because it was a question that
00:05:59.05\00:06:00.39
that was asked about
00:06:00.42\00:06:03.12
the people of Daniel, the
Jews, they faced challenges.
00:06:03.16\00:06:06.39
And Ezra 4 gives us a
peek into that challenge.

Ezra 4:1-5, it says,

"Now when the adversaries
of Judah and Benjamin

heard that the
descendants of the captivity

were building the temple
of the Lord God of Israel,

they came to Zerubbabel
00:06:22.01\00:06:24.08
and the heads of
the fathers' houses,
00:06:24.11\00:06:25.45
and said to them,
'Let us build with you,"

this is a powerful
story which we covered

in one of our
lessons in the past,

"for we seek your God as you do,

and we have sacrificed to

But Zerubbabel and Jeshua

and the rest of the heads

of the fathers' houses

Then the people of the land

tried to discourage
the people of Judah.

They troubled them in
building, and hired counselors

against them to
frustrate their purpose

all the days of
Cyrus king of Persia,

even until the reign of
Darius king of Persia.'"

So they had a difficult time.

So Daniel now, what do you do

when difficulty come your
way, difficulties come your way?

You do what Daniel did.

You begin to pray.

So I want to point out first,
the reason, three major reasons

why we should pray, one,
we should persist in prayer,

even when our petitions
are not answered immediately.

Because the Lord knows

the timing of
each of our petition,

he knows when a prayer
is best to be answered.

Some people pray for jobs,

they pray for
good medical results.

Sometimes the
Lord has to take us

through the process of
trusting Him in the waiting,

in the waiting we
need to trust Him,

not in the immediate answer,
00:07:52.00\00:07:53.34
but in the waiting
because He is still God,

and He will give no stone

to His child when
they ask for bread.

Secondly, we should
devote time to pray for others.

There's something special
about intercessory prayer.

You know, in the story of Job,

the Lord restored
all of Job's losses
00:08:11.32\00:08:13.15
when he prayed for his friends.
00:08:13.19\00:08:14.96
And sometimes
people can pray for
00:08:14.99\00:08:16.46
what their supposed
friends have done to them.
00:08:16.49\00:08:19.36
But when we start
praying for others,
00:08:19.39\00:08:21.56
our heart begins to expand,
00:08:21.60\00:08:23.57
our concerns begin to
diminish for ourselves,
00:08:23.60\00:08:25.97
the focus is off of us.
00:08:26.00\00:08:28.37
It's like seeing somebody
coming out of the grocery store
00:08:28.40\00:08:30.47
and their arms are
full with packages,
00:08:30.51\00:08:32.67
and we go over and help them.
00:08:32.71\00:08:34.21
All of a sudden you feel
good for the rest of the day
00:08:34.24\00:08:36.41
because you've done
your, your daily deed.
00:08:36.44\00:08:40.02
And in the same way,
when we pray for others,

we begin to see that, you know,
00:08:41.92\00:08:43.25
I'm not really the one

that's going
through difficulty alone.

There are others who
have the same hardship.

And thirdly, prayer prompts God

to do something
concrete and real.

So let us pray
always, all kinds of prayers

in the face of
unbearable trials,

big problems and
overwhelming challenges,

contend with this old fortress

called the flesh.

an amazing thing.

Some people,

to necessarily do it

not eating any pleasurable food.

high blood pressure,

or maybe you're
not the kind of person

that could go long
without certain types

of dietary principles
or dietary practices."

Choose something that you
know will be a great sacrifice.

Now, I know we live in a
technological generation.

I'm not saying three days
without going on Facebook,

that's not fasting.

But do something that
has a spiritual connotation

and a spiritual blessing,

something that is in
fact a denial of self,

and put
yourself before the Lord.

And you'll see, He will answer

because prayer and fasting,
He says, is the foundation

by which many
prayers are answered

that would not
otherwise be answered.

Thirdly, prayer
increases our faith.

The Bible said as a what?

Identifying marks
is it not of someone

We need the strength and
ability of the Holy Spirit.

that's what we're saying,

no strength in man,
certainly in vision many time,

vision doesn't even breathe.

you know, Spirit of Prophecy,

many times they did
not even take a breath,

Because it was no longer them,

Christ lived in them.

So we realize
here his corruption,

they say, it was
gone, it was just destroyed.

People like to talk about death.

maybe you're visiting someone

and trying to pray
with the family so on,

someone's on their
deathbed, they cannot move,

they cannot talk.

But the last thing
that goes is their hearing.

He had lost everything here.

There's really no strength
and even though he fell down

on his face, he
couldn't do anything,

he couldn't move evidently,
but he could still hear.

And so, because that's what God
wants to do is to speak to him.

I heard the voice of the
words then I was in a deep sleep

and I was on my face and
my face toward the ground.

heavy stupor as it were,

I mean, this was Daniel's vision

shows me once again
that God is still in control

with all of these lessons,
the whole book of Daniel.

Because his iniquity
therefore was taken away

and his sin was purged.

It was a cleansing,

it was an
equipping for ministry,

it enabled him to hear
the call of God on his life,

because then God
called to Isaiah,

"Who will go for us?"

And he said,

And it's okay to feel weak.

He said, "I have no

put all of the bad deeds

and the bad things

the course of history
through biblical history,

we look to plug that on the Lord

and say that was God's fault.

He allowed and He's
the one that caused it.

works through these human forces

Jerusalem going back

and rebuilding their temple

the time of Cyrus.

Cyrus has given a decree,

the devil says,
"No, I can't have that,

can't be having them
worshiping the true God."

So he shows up and
he tries to intervene
