Reason number eight. 00:08:21.50\00:08:23.23 As long as I have gas in the car, right? 00:08:23.26\00:08:25.10 I'm still able to drive around, 00:08:25.13\00:08:26.53 like, wow, I can find my way out of it. 00:08:26.57\00:08:28.87 This is part of being too proud to ask for help. 00:08:28.90\00:08:32.27 This could be dangerous. 00:08:32.31\00:08:33.64 And I'm told that lot of times too 00:08:33.68\00:08:35.34 'cause I'll try to lift something 00:08:35.38\00:08:36.71 or do something or build something. 00:08:36.75\00:08:39.21 My wife will say, 00:08:39.25\00:08:40.58 "Man, call somebody and ask to lift there." 00:08:40.62\00:08:42.02 "Ah, I can do it. I can." 00:08:42.05\00:08:44.59 I just think, well, that's... 00:08:44.62\00:08:45.95 I just want to, you know, okay. 00:08:45.99\00:08:47.66 Number four, 00:08:47.69\00:08:49.02 "Feeling the need 00:08:49.06\00:08:50.39 to consistently teach people things. 00:08:50.43\00:08:54.76 You know, If you feel a need 00:08:54.80\00:08:56.13 that you always need to teach somebody something, 00:08:56.16\00:08:58.10 maybe that's a sign of pride. 00:08:58.13\00:09:00.60 'Cause remember this is what all the lesson is about 00:09:00.64\00:09:02.67 is Nebuchadnezzar, what happened to him 00:09:02.70\00:09:04.17 and the kingdom of Babylon then all these other kingdoms, 00:09:04.21\00:09:06.94 this little thing called pride. 00:09:06.98\00:09:08.88 Number five, 00:09:08.91\00:09:11.01 talking about yourself a lot. 00:09:11.05\00:09:14.65 There's no one else to talk about 00:09:14.68\00:09:16.02 and you talk about yourself a lot. 00:09:16.05\00:09:17.49 Well, a lot of people have things to talk about 00:09:17.52\00:09:19.15 in the world for sure. 00:09:19.19\00:09:20.72 Number six, 00:09:20.76\00:09:22.09 thinking you are better than others, 00:09:22.12\00:09:24.79 because may be they just have less than you have 00:09:24.83\00:09:27.46 or not quite as high a position may be as you might have. 00:09:27.50\00:09:30.93 Thinking you are better than others. 00:09:30.97\00:09:33.84 Surely none of us would do that, 00:09:33.87\00:09:35.30 but that's a sign of a pride. 00:09:35.34\00:09:36.94 Of course. 00:09:36.97\00:09:38.31 Number seven. 00:09:38.34\00:09:39.67 When you disregard the advice of others. 00:09:39.71\00:09:43.38 See we, that could be a pride issue. 00:09:43.41\00:09:46.31 A pride if we disregard. 00:09:46.35\00:09:48.08 That's why we, the Bible says when he did what? 00:09:48.12\00:09:50.29 Went to council. 00:09:50.32\00:09:51.65 Council together and to listen 00:09:51.69\00:09:53.02 not that you can always take everybody's piece of advice. 00:09:53.05\00:09:55.06 Right. 00:09:55.09\00:09:56.42 You know, I always, listen to my mother's advice, 00:09:56.46\00:09:58.63 and I'll tell you why. 00:09:58.66\00:10:00.00 It's because I knew 00:10:00.03\00:10:01.56 she had my best interest at heart. 00:10:01.60\00:10:02.93 That's right. 00:10:02.96\00:10:04.30 She might say, well somebody said da-da-da, 00:10:04.33\00:10:06.74 and I might think, um. 00:10:06.77\00:10:08.10 I'm not sure they have my best interest at heart. 00:10:08.14\00:10:10.11 But when she says something, I knew she did. 00:10:10.14\00:10:11.97 But I was not able to go along with that, 00:10:12.01\00:10:14.14 but I, you could trust that. 00:10:14.18\00:10:17.98 Number eight. 00:10:18.01\00:10:19.35 When you are consistently critical of others. 00:10:19.38\00:10:22.48 Yes. 00:10:22.52\00:10:23.85 You find somebody that's critical of others 00:10:23.89\00:10:25.22 a lot times just 'cause maybe it's a pride issue. 00:10:25.25\00:10:28.46 Number nine. 00:10:28.49\00:10:29.92 Consistently need, you have consistent need 00:10:29.96\00:10:32.69 for attention and affirmation or symptom by to affirm you. 00:10:32.73\00:10:36.87 So you're always I need attention 00:10:36.90\00:10:38.93 or you know you need, 00:10:38.97\00:10:40.87 have that desire all the time maybe, 00:10:40.90\00:10:43.10 maybe we need to look at. 00:10:43.14\00:10:44.47 May be it's something inside 00:10:44.51\00:10:45.84 or maybe it's something that's self there. 00:10:45.87\00:10:47.21 Number 10. 00:10:47.24\00:10:48.58 And able to receive constrictive criticism. 00:10:48.61\00:10:53.58 Yeah. 00:10:53.62\00:10:54.95 A lot of times people say, I'm just going to give you, 00:10:54.98\00:10:56.69 you know constructive criticism, 00:10:56.72\00:10:58.35 and it's like destructive. 00:10:58.39\00:11:01.89 There's a way to give, it isn't that right too? 00:11:01.92\00:11:03.32 That's right. 00:11:03.36\00:11:04.69 And sometimes what, 00:11:04.73\00:11:06.06 even that raises our pride level sometime 00:11:06.09\00:11:07.43 even the way it's spoken rather than just listen first 00:11:07.46\00:11:09.20 and to go on. 00:11:09.23\00:11:10.57 Number eleven, notice this. 00:11:10.60\00:11:12.67 Overly obsessed, um, boy, 00:11:12.70\00:11:15.37 with our physical appearance. 00:11:15.40\00:11:17.84 Could be a form of... 00:11:17.87\00:11:19.57 Could be form of pride. 00:11:19.61\00:11:21.44 Number 12. 00:11:21.48\00:11:22.81 Unwilling to submit to authority. 00:11:22.84\00:11:25.85 You know, that's a good one. 00:11:25.88\00:11:28.25 Sometime we have to fight that one. 00:11:28.28\00:11:30.95 Thirteen, ignoring sometime 00:11:30.99\00:11:33.99 when people are trying to talk to us. 00:11:34.02\00:11:36.12 We just ignore them 00:11:36.16\00:11:37.49 because they don't have anything to say 00:11:37.53\00:11:39.09 worth listening to, could be sign of pride. 00:11:39.13\00:11:41.76 Fourteen, justifying, I felt this one over, 00:11:41.80\00:11:45.60 justifying our sin, instead of admitting it. 00:11:45.63\00:11:49.14 That's it. 00:11:49.17\00:11:50.51 Making justification, well, I did it 00:11:50.54\00:11:51.87 because I didn't want to but I did because he or she, 00:11:51.91\00:11:56.04 and so sometimes we justify, 00:11:56.08\00:11:58.41 rather than the Bible's very clear, 00:11:58.45\00:12:00.18 we come to God and we confess that sin. 00:12:00.22\00:12:02.22 He's faithful and just to forgive us 00:12:02.25\00:12:04.29 and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 00:12:04.32\00:12:06.05 I'm not saying that's an easy thing to do. 00:12:06.09\00:12:08.46 It's never easy to admit that we're wrong, 00:12:08.49\00:12:10.56 especially to our fellowmen and women, 00:12:10.59\00:12:12.26 you know, church family. 00:12:12.29\00:12:14.43 But God says, bring it to Him. 00:12:14.46\00:12:16.20 And if we're wrong, our fellowmen, go to them also. 00:12:16.23\00:12:19.17 So don't justify. 00:12:19.20\00:12:20.54 Number 15, I'm gonna say this is name dropping, 00:12:20.57\00:12:24.24 now what does that mean? 00:12:24.27\00:12:25.61 Name dropping, that means using people, 00:12:25.64\00:12:28.48 some people use people to try to climb up a ladder 00:12:28.51\00:12:31.71 or they use their name, 00:12:31.75\00:12:33.08 or they try to get in on a conversation 00:12:33.11\00:12:35.02 to make other people think that they're just as important 00:12:35.05\00:12:37.99 or have that same position. 00:12:38.02\00:12:39.85 Well, that's a lot. Right. 00:12:39.89\00:12:42.32 But there are people, these are just simple, 00:12:42.36\00:12:43.93 that may be little simple signs of what we call pride 00:12:43.96\00:12:47.23 but the results are not simple. 00:12:47.26\00:12:49.40 They can be devastating. That's right. 00:12:49.43\00:12:51.43 As Nebuchadnezzar we're being now to lose our mind, 00:12:51.47\00:12:54.24 may be not just for seven years, 00:12:54.27\00:12:56.60 as Nebuchadnezzar, but may be it might not ever come back. 00:12:56.64\00:13:00.98 So we need to be careful, 00:13:01.01\00:13:02.34 decision and choices that we make. 00:13:02.38\00:13:04.55 And be sure that we, 00:13:04.58\00:13:06.05 that the memory text there in Daniel 00:13:06.08\00:13:07.88 that we looked at Daniel 4:3, 00:13:07.92\00:13:10.15 We wanna say it as Nebuchadnezzar said it 00:13:10.19\00:13:12.22 and the end result is, he just simply said, 00:13:12.25\00:13:15.06 "How great." 00:13:15.09\00:13:16.62 Basically how great is God, 00:13:16.66\00:13:18.33 notice that, his kingdom, his dominion 00:13:18.36\00:13:20.00 from generation to generation. 00:13:20.03\00:13:22.56 This should be our attitude I think as we, 00:13:22.60\00:13:25.80 our prayer come to our senses, 00:13:25.83\00:13:27.67 we consider just some of these things here. 00:13:27.70\00:13:29.94 Don't take it all personal, 00:13:29.97\00:13:31.31 but I've seen several that fit me. 00:13:31.34\00:13:33.61 And I don't mean for them to be, 00:13:33.64\00:13:35.21 but they just need to had an application there, 00:13:35.24\00:13:38.01 and if you're gonna just a little bit, 00:13:38.05\00:13:39.51 I wanna get rid of that, I wanna submit it to God, 00:13:39.55\00:13:41.92 and I want Him to take that 00:13:41.95\00:13:43.28 because I don't wanna miss heaven. 00:13:43.32\00:13:44.95 Because I'm too prideful to work with some, 00:13:44.99\00:13:46.92 I'm too prideful to take advice, 00:13:46.96\00:13:48.49 too prideful that I know everything 00:13:48.52\00:13:50.06 and before anyone ever speak. 00:13:50.09\00:13:51.69 So you know, I want this to be, 00:13:51.73\00:13:53.26 you know be, be set in my heart 00:13:53.29\00:13:54.63 and the life to be ready when Jesus come. 00:13:54.66\00:13:56.13 Pastor John. Amen. Amen. 00:13:56.16\00:13:58.33 Mine is Monday, warned by the prophet. 00:13:58.37\00:14:02.60 We find examples in scripture, 00:14:02.64\00:14:05.27 David and Jonathan is one. 00:14:05.31\00:14:08.14 We find examples all throughout the Bible, 00:14:08.18\00:14:10.91 Ahab came to... 00:14:10.95\00:14:14.68 Not Ahab, but Elijah came to Ahab. 00:14:14.72\00:14:16.95 You find, there's continual rebuke 00:14:16.99\00:14:19.15 throughout the Bible, 00:14:19.19\00:14:20.66 and we'll find in many cases when the rebuke is received, 00:14:20.69\00:14:24.33 then a person comes to the place 00:14:24.36\00:14:26.09 where they repent and they acknowledge their sin 00:14:26.13\00:14:29.96 and then God restores them. 00:14:30.00\00:14:31.87 This is an amazing chapter in Daniel 4, 00:14:31.90\00:14:35.34 because you think in the midst of this amazing display 00:14:35.37\00:14:38.97 of power and wealth, and fame and notoriety, 00:14:39.01\00:14:43.01 that one of the things we have to guard against 00:14:43.04\00:14:44.71 and you see this in history. 00:14:44.75\00:14:46.25 We're most vulnerable 00:14:46.28\00:14:48.48 when we are at our height in our successes. 00:14:48.52\00:14:52.59 There's a story in Isaiah 6, 00:14:52.62\00:14:55.96 I read this number of times and for years that alluded me 00:14:55.99\00:14:59.59 when Isaiah said, "In the year that king Uzziah died, 00:14:59.63\00:15:02.83 I saw the Lord, 00:15:02.86\00:15:04.70 sitting on His throne high and lifted up. 00:15:04.73\00:15:07.27 And I always wondered, 00:15:07.30\00:15:08.64 why did he say in the year that King Uzziah died? 00:15:08.67\00:15:11.47 Why couldn't he have just said, 00:15:11.51\00:15:12.97 I saw the Lord sitting in his throne? 00:15:13.01\00:15:15.04 Well, when you study the life of Uzziah 00:15:15.08\00:15:16.61 in the book of 2 Chronicles, 00:15:16.64\00:15:17.98 you find that he became king when he was, 00:15:18.01\00:15:20.25 he became the king when he was 16. 00:15:20.28\00:15:22.52 He reigned for 52 years until he was 68 00:15:22.55\00:15:26.39 and was in the closing moments of his life, 00:15:26.42\00:15:28.46 you find two lepers that are famous in the Bible. 00:15:28.49\00:15:31.06 Naaman was a leper 00:15:31.09\00:15:32.99 and Uzziah became a leper. 00:15:33.03\00:15:35.93 Now Uzziah, as long as the Lord prospered, 00:15:35.96\00:15:39.77 as long as he put the Lord first. 00:15:39.80\00:15:41.74 The Lord made sure that he never came in last. 00:15:41.77\00:15:44.81 And what happened to Nebuchadnezzar here though, 00:15:44.84\00:15:46.78 is Nebuchadnezzar put himself first, 00:15:46.81\00:15:49.41 and he eventually came in last, 00:15:49.44\00:15:51.81 and only second to Solomon was the man Uzziah. 00:15:51.85\00:15:56.79 His pride got in the way and he went from being a king 00:15:56.82\00:16:00.69 to attempting to be a priest 00:16:00.72\00:16:02.16 and God never appointed him a priesthood. 00:16:02.19\00:16:05.06 He went into the temple and began to burn incense 00:16:05.09\00:16:07.10 that God never anointed him to be a priest. 00:16:07.13\00:16:10.50 And then when the rebuke of the priest, 00:16:10.53\00:16:14.17 about 80 priests came and knocked on his door. 00:16:14.20\00:16:17.64 If 80 elders or 80 church members, 00:16:17.67\00:16:20.84 you look through the peep hole of your door 00:16:20.88\00:16:22.21 and you have 80 church members out there, saying, 00:16:22.24\00:16:25.95 Pastor John, open this door right now. 00:16:25.98\00:16:31.75 You think, I'm in trouble? 00:16:31.79\00:16:34.12 And they rebuked him. 00:16:34.16\00:16:36.09 And then when they rebuked him, 00:16:36.12\00:16:38.43 the Lord chased him out of the sanctuary. 00:16:38.46\00:16:41.03 And the Bible said, 00:16:41.06\00:16:42.76 leprosy broke out on his forehead, 00:16:42.80\00:16:45.33 because that's where his issue was. 00:16:45.37\00:16:47.90 Pride filled his heart, 00:16:47.94\00:16:49.44 and eventually he suffered the fate of a leper. 00:16:49.47\00:16:52.57 He died in a leper colony. 00:16:52.61\00:16:55.24 And that's how his life ended. 00:16:55.28\00:16:56.61 So Uzziah was now, the vision was given to Isaiah 00:16:56.64\00:17:00.55 because Uzziah had forfeited 00:17:00.58\00:17:02.62 what God intended to give to him. 00:17:02.65\00:17:04.42 And that's why Isaiah said 00:17:04.45\00:17:05.79 in the year that King Uzziah died, 00:17:05.82\00:17:08.12 I saw the Lord. 00:17:08.16\00:17:09.69 And so we'll find out. 00:17:09.72\00:17:12.53 One of the prideful determinations, 00:17:12.56\00:17:15.36 one of the prideful evidences in Nebuchadnezzar's life 00:17:15.40\00:17:18.23 was the way he dealt with those 00:17:18.27\00:17:20.44 who were beneath him. 00:17:20.47\00:17:21.90 And what I want to point out right now is, 00:17:21.94\00:17:24.24 Daniel 4:27. 00:17:24.27\00:17:27.38 You know, I have to say this, 00:17:27.41\00:17:30.18 not tongue in cheek, 00:17:30.21\00:17:31.55 but I have to say this with a heart of humility, 00:17:31.58\00:17:32.91 but very direct. 00:17:32.95\00:17:34.55 When you are in the position where God has prospered you, 00:17:34.58\00:17:39.02 be careful how you talk to people 00:17:39.05\00:17:42.69 that are not as fortunate or as well established, 00:17:42.72\00:17:46.29 materialistically or financially 00:17:46.33\00:17:48.70 or in a place of notoriety. 00:17:48.73\00:17:50.67 Be careful how you deal with those 00:17:50.70\00:17:53.54 who you make, consider small, 00:17:53.57\00:17:55.40 because we are all precious in the sight of God 00:17:55.44\00:17:58.64 and before we're done the lesson, 00:17:58.67\00:18:00.18 I will show you 00:18:00.21\00:18:01.61 that the measurement of the judgment 00:18:01.64\00:18:03.95 is not just going to be the knowledge we have 00:18:03.98\00:18:06.55 about our doctrinal position, 00:18:06.58\00:18:08.02 but how we deal with those less fortunate. 00:18:08.05\00:18:10.95 That has always been an issue in the Book of James. 00:18:10.99\00:18:13.25 It talked about the wealthy, 00:18:13.29\00:18:14.62 how they ignore the cry of the poor, 00:18:14.66\00:18:17.53 that are reaping their fields, and the Bible says, 00:18:17.56\00:18:20.40 "Their cries hath entered into the ears 00:18:20.43\00:18:22.76 of the Lord of the Sabbath." 00:18:22.80\00:18:24.20 He's heard their cries, so be careful. 00:18:24.23\00:18:26.77 Look at Daniel 4:27. 00:18:26.80\00:18:29.60 Daniel not only interpreted dreams, 00:18:29.64\00:18:31.77 but he also pointed to Nebuchadnezzar 00:18:31.81\00:18:35.01 to understand where his heart was in the sight of God. 00:18:35.04\00:18:39.91 He says, "Therefore, O King, 00:18:39.95\00:18:41.58 let my counsel be acceptable to you. 00:18:41.62\00:18:44.89 Break off your sins, 00:18:44.92\00:18:48.16 by being righteous, and your iniquities 00:18:48.19\00:18:51.16 by showing mercy to the poor. 00:18:51.19\00:18:54.30 Perhaps, there may be a lengthening 00:18:54.33\00:18:57.00 or prolonging of your prosperity." 00:18:57.03\00:18:59.63 I've often seen throughout history 00:18:59.67\00:19:01.07 that people that have lost their prosperity have become. 00:19:01.10\00:19:05.07 It's because they have worshiped their prosperity 00:19:05.11\00:19:07.51 and forgotten God. 00:19:07.54\00:19:09.18 Now, the Lord warned us against 00:19:09.21\00:19:10.55 that even in the Book of Deuteronomy. 00:19:10.58\00:19:12.35 He said, when you have lived in your house, 00:19:12.38\00:19:14.48 as you eat, and you're full, 00:19:14.52\00:19:15.85 you have all these things. 00:19:15.88\00:19:17.22 Be careful, lest you forget that the Lord is the one 00:19:17.25\00:19:19.05 that gave you the power to get this wealth. 00:19:19.09\00:19:21.32 And so we have to be very careful, 00:19:21.36\00:19:22.69 even as those who know and understand the truth, 00:19:22.72\00:19:24.79 that this measurement of pride, 00:19:24.83\00:19:26.59 as you pointed out, 00:19:26.63\00:19:27.96 pride affects everyone at every level... 00:19:28.00\00:19:29.86 Come on now. 00:19:29.90\00:19:31.23 But mostly, the greatest effect is when you have a lot. 00:19:31.27\00:19:34.34 The rich fool, he had a whole lot. 00:19:34.37\00:19:36.14 And he said, 00:19:36.17\00:19:37.51 I have so much stored up for many, many years 00:19:37.54\00:19:39.07 and that night the Lord said, 00:19:39.11\00:19:40.44 fool, tonight your soul is required of you 00:19:40.48\00:19:42.51 so be careful when your possessions possess you. 00:19:42.54\00:19:46.61 That's what happened to Nebuchadnezzar. 00:19:46.65\00:19:48.72 We find here. 00:19:48.75\00:19:50.09 Look at Proverbs 14:31. 00:19:50.12\00:19:52.12 The warning that was brought out, 00:19:52.15\00:19:54.32 Proverbs 14:31. 00:19:54.36\00:19:56.39 "He who oppresses the poor reproaches His maker, 00:19:56.42\00:20:01.53 but he who honors Him has mercy on the needy." 00:20:01.56\00:20:05.63 Now, notice what this is saying. 00:20:05.67\00:20:07.27 When the poor are, 00:20:07.30\00:20:08.64 when we deal unjustly with the poor, 00:20:08.67\00:20:11.74 we are in fact dishonoring God. 00:20:11.77\00:20:14.38 But when we honor God, 00:20:14.41\00:20:16.44 we will have mercy on those who have needs. 00:20:16.48\00:20:19.55 It's showing that the presence of God is in our heart, 00:20:19.58\00:20:22.38 it's governing our response to those who have a need. 00:20:22.42\00:20:27.09 Babylon was built on the shoulders of the poor, 00:20:27.12\00:20:30.49 many great empires are built on the shoulders of the poor, 00:20:30.53\00:20:33.66 I make reference to America. 00:20:33.70\00:20:35.43 It was built on the shoulders of many of them, 00:20:35.46\00:20:37.90 of the modern things we have here 00:20:37.93\00:20:39.57 over the last two or three hundred years 00:20:39.60\00:20:41.24 was built on the shoulders 00:20:41.27\00:20:42.60 of those who came over on slave ships. 00:20:42.64\00:20:45.51 But then when you have a society, 00:20:45.54\00:20:47.11 a society that gets well established, 00:20:47.14\00:20:49.14 and fails to acknowledge the needs of those 00:20:49.18\00:20:51.55 who built many of the infrastructures of that nation, 00:20:51.58\00:20:54.42 we find that pride goes before destruction 00:20:54.45\00:20:58.89 and a haughty spirit before fall. 00:20:58.92\00:21:00.82 So we have to be very, very careful. 00:21:00.86\00:21:02.66 I'm going to point out very carefully here 00:21:02.69\00:21:04.53 in Proverbs 22:16, 00:21:04.56\00:21:06.43 the obligation that we have to the poor. 00:21:06.46\00:21:09.06 The Bible says, "He who oppresses the poor, 00:21:09.10\00:21:13.13 to increase his riches, 00:21:13.17\00:21:15.94 and he who gives to the rich will surely come to poverty." 00:21:15.97\00:21:20.21 So don't pad the pockets of those 00:21:20.24\00:21:21.88 who are already wealthy 00:21:21.91\00:21:23.88 in negligence for those who are poor. 00:21:23.91\00:21:26.01 Proverbs 22:22, 00:21:26.05\00:21:28.15 "Do not rob the poor because he is poor, 00:21:28.18\00:21:31.75 nor oppressed the afflicted at the gate." 00:21:31.79\00:21:34.92 And you find that oftentimes 00:21:34.96\00:21:36.56 in many of the cities in the Bible, 00:21:36.59\00:21:38.33 the poor waited at the gate. 00:21:38.36\00:21:42.83 They waited there because, 00:21:42.86\00:21:44.20 as people walked into the city, 00:21:44.23\00:21:45.67 they looked at the affluent and they said, help, 00:21:45.70\00:21:47.87 you know, give me alms, I need food. 00:21:47.90\00:21:50.17 Zachariah 7:10. 00:21:50.21\00:21:53.17 Another very important injunction, 00:21:53.21\00:21:55.14 "Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, 00:21:55.18\00:21:58.88 the alien or the poor, 00:21:58.91\00:22:01.42 let none of you plan evil in his heart 00:22:01.45\00:22:04.85 against his brother." 00:22:04.89\00:22:06.39 The Lord is saying, 00:22:06.42\00:22:07.76 you're going to be accountable for the way that you feel 00:22:07.79\00:22:09.32 towards other people. 00:22:09.36\00:22:10.69 But look at the measurement. 00:22:10.73\00:22:12.06 And Jesus establishes this beautifully 00:22:12.09\00:22:14.06 in His own life. 00:22:14.10\00:22:15.43 He talked about in degeneration in the regeneration, 00:22:15.46\00:22:18.83 in the judgment, here is the standard, 00:22:18.87\00:22:20.87 one of the standards 00:22:20.90\00:22:22.24 by which we're going to be judged. 00:22:22.27\00:22:23.97 Matthew 25:34, 00:22:24.01\00:22:27.78 "Then the king will say to those on his right hand, 00:22:27.81\00:22:30.58 come, you blessed up of my Father, 00:22:30.61\00:22:32.55 inherit the kingdom prepared for you 00:22:32.58\00:22:33.95 from the foundation of the world, 00:22:33.98\00:22:35.62 was hungry, and you gave me food, 00:22:35.65\00:22:38.15 I was thirsty, and you gave me drink, 00:22:38.19\00:22:40.16 I was a stranger, and you took me in, 00:22:40.19\00:22:42.62 I was a naked and you clothed me. 00:22:42.66\00:22:45.06 I was sick and you visited me. 00:22:45.09\00:22:47.30 I was in prison and you came to me." 00:22:47.33\00:22:49.20 Look at the measurement. 00:22:49.23\00:22:50.57 Then the righteous will answer, "Lord, when did we see?" 00:22:50.60\00:22:53.17 And He mentions all these things, and He says, 00:22:53.20\00:22:55.30 "As much as you've done it unto the least of these, 00:22:55.34\00:22:57.34 My brethren, you've done it unto Me." 00:22:57.37\00:22:59.17 But look at the converse, verse 44, 00:22:59.21\00:23:02.04 "Then they also will answer him, 00:23:02.08\00:23:05.05 Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, 00:23:05.08\00:23:08.38 or stranger, or naked or in prison. 00:23:08.42\00:23:12.29 And did not minister to you?" 00:23:12.32\00:23:14.29 Then He will answer them saying, 00:23:14.32\00:23:16.93 "Assuredly, I say to you, 00:23:16.96\00:23:20.90 you did not do it. 00:23:20.93\00:23:23.47 As much as you did not do it 00:23:23.50\00:23:24.87 to the one of the least of these, 00:23:24.90\00:23:26.53 you did not do it to Me, 00:23:26.57\00:23:28.87 and these will go away into everlasting punishment, 00:23:28.90\00:23:32.11 but the righteous into everlasting life." 00:23:32.14\00:23:35.91 So, I want to also point out one more thing, 00:23:35.94\00:23:39.35 that the whole basis of the way that we often deal with people, 00:23:39.38\00:23:43.45 is we have our gods mixed up. 00:23:43.49\00:23:45.39 We can't serve God and money at the same time. 00:23:45.42\00:23:48.36 Matthew 6:24, 00:23:48.39\00:23:49.82 "No one can serve two masters 00:23:49.86\00:23:51.49 for either he will hate the one and love the other, 00:23:51.53\00:23:53.96 or else he will be loyal to the one 00:23:54.00\00:23:55.93 and despise the other." 00:23:55.96\00:23:57.53 You cannot serve God and Mammon. 00:23:57.57\00:23:59.60 Nebuchadnezzar served Mammon, 00:23:59.63\00:24:01.60 Nebuchadnezzar served Marduke. 00:24:01.64\00:24:03.64 Nebuchadnezzar served his pride 00:24:03.67\00:24:05.54 and God brought him to the place of humility. 00:24:05.57\00:24:09.74 Okay, we're going to take a short break. 00:24:09.78\00:24:11.45 We'll be right back in just a moment. 00:24:11.48\00:24:12.95 Ever wish you could watch 00:24:19.25\00:24:20.59 a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel again, 00:24:55.36\00:24:56.69 Sister Shelley Quinn. 00:24:56.73\00:24:58.06 Yes, mine is the most high rules. 00:24:58.09\00:25:00.06 And when you think about Chapter 4, 00:25:00.10\00:25:02.36 the most amazing thing of Chapter 4 00:25:02.40\00:25:04.43 is this new vision, that dream 00:25:04.47\00:25:07.34 that Nebuchadnezzar has had, 00:25:07.37\00:25:08.70 and he's dreamt of this large tree 00:25:08.74\00:25:10.87 that's reaching to the heavens, spreading out its branches, 00:25:10.91\00:25:14.11 everybody's coming out from underneath it, 00:25:14.14\00:25:16.44 and all of a sudden, it's gonna get chopped down. 00:25:16.48\00:25:19.15 And he's troubled. 00:25:19.18\00:25:20.52 So he talks with Nebuchadnezzar, 00:25:20.55\00:25:22.08 I mean with Daniel, and Daniel tells him, 00:25:22.12\00:25:24.49 hey, that tree is you, 00:25:24.52\00:25:27.56 you know, the leaves were lovely, 00:25:27.59\00:25:29.62 the fruit was abundant. 00:25:29.66\00:25:32.23 But then he says, in as much as he's explaining all of this, 00:25:32.26\00:25:36.93 he says, in as much as the King saw a watcher, a holy one, 00:25:36.97\00:25:41.54 saying chop down the tree and destroy it, 00:25:41.57\00:25:43.81 but leave its stump and root in the earth, 00:25:43.84\00:25:46.94 bound with a band of iron till seven times pass over. 00:25:46.98\00:25:51.88 He's saying, hey, King, this is you. 00:25:51.91\00:25:54.58 Seven years, you're going to be driven out to the field. 00:25:54.62\00:25:57.85 So despite the interpretation of the dream. 00:25:57.89\00:26:01.29 And, you know, 00:26:01.32\00:26:03.69 Daniel is saying you need to repent. 00:26:03.73\00:26:06.06 That's right. 00:26:06.09\00:26:07.43 You know, I mean, he's telling him, 00:26:07.46\00:26:08.80 seek God for forgiveness. 00:26:08.83\00:26:10.73 Nope. 00:26:10.77\00:26:12.10 Nebuchadnezzar's still just a narcissistic. 00:26:12.13\00:26:14.70 I started to say, fool, 00:26:14.74\00:26:16.07 but maybe that's not the right thing to say. 00:26:16.10\00:26:17.91 But, God delays His sentence for whole year. 00:26:17.94\00:26:22.68 He's giving Nebuchadnezzar a chance 00:26:22.71\00:26:25.01 and when the king is so fully consumed with pride, 00:26:25.05\00:26:30.55 then it's time for the disciplinary measure. 00:26:30.59\00:26:32.75 So look at this, Daniel 4:28, 00:26:32.79\00:26:36.26 "All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar 00:26:36.29\00:26:39.43 and at the end of the 12 months," 00:26:39.46\00:26:41.56 this is after Daniel's told him the interpretation, 00:26:41.60\00:26:44.87 I'm sorry, Daniel 4:28. 00:26:44.90\00:26:47.97 Okay. 00:26:48.00\00:26:49.34 "All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar, 00:26:49.37\00:26:52.37 at the end of the 12 months," 00:26:52.41\00:26:53.74 this is after Daniel has told him the interpretation 00:26:53.78\00:26:56.31 of this new dream, 00:26:56.34\00:26:58.48 "he was walking about the Royal Palace of Babylon 00:26:58.51\00:27:00.98 the king spoke saying, 00:27:01.02\00:27:03.35 Is not this great Babylon that I have built 00:27:03.39\00:27:08.09 for royal dwelling by my mighty power. 00:27:08.12\00:27:12.43 And for the honor of my majesty." 00:27:12.46\00:27:16.26 You know, Nebuchadnezzar had built 00:27:16.30\00:27:18.17 one of the seven wonders of the world for his wife. 00:27:18.20\00:27:23.37 He had a 400 foot mountain 00:27:23.41\00:27:26.57 that had flowing waters coming down at Hanging Gardens. 00:27:26.61\00:27:33.08 This was a place of rest, 00:27:33.11\00:27:35.02 but it was supposed to be for time of refreshing. 00:27:35.05\00:27:38.52 So here he is now. 00:27:38.55\00:27:40.59 He's looking, 00:27:40.62\00:27:41.96 he built at least three castles. 00:27:41.99\00:27:43.36 He's looking around and he's thinking, 00:27:43.39\00:27:45.49 I'm the man, you know, 00:27:45.53\00:27:48.16 look at what I've done, right? 00:27:48.20\00:27:50.93 But he failed to give God glory. 00:27:50.97\00:27:52.73 Yes, that's right. 00:27:52.77\00:27:54.10 He is. 00:27:54.14\00:27:55.50 You know, God is ultimately the giver 00:27:55.54\00:27:57.21 of every good and perfect gift. 00:27:57.24\00:27:59.27 And for his pride, 00:27:59.31\00:28:01.31 for him totally ignoring what God, 00:28:01.34\00:28:04.65 all these opportunities God has given him. 00:28:04.68\00:28:07.15 Judgment falls. So let's look at verse 31. 00:28:07.18\00:28:10.59 Daniel 4:31, 00:28:10.62\00:28:12.82 "While the word was still in the king's mouth." 00:28:12.85\00:28:16.73 Oh, I did this all by my mighty power 00:28:16.76\00:28:19.46 for my honor and glory. 00:28:19.49\00:28:22.00 "A voice fell from heaven, 00:28:22.03\00:28:24.33 King Nebuchadnezzar, to you, it is spoken, 00:28:24.37\00:28:28.47 the kingdom has departed from you." 00:28:28.50\00:28:32.51 Justice was prophesied before. 00:28:32.54\00:28:35.34 "They shall drive you for men, 00:28:35.38\00:28:37.11 your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, 00:28:37.15\00:28:40.48 they shall make you eat grass, like oxen, and seven times," 00:28:40.52\00:28:44.85 that means seven years, 00:28:44.89\00:28:46.35 "shall pass over you until you know 00:28:46.39\00:28:51.29 that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men 00:28:51.33\00:28:54.63 and give it to whomever he chooses." 00:28:54.66\00:28:57.63 That very hour, verse 33 says, 00:28:57.67\00:29:02.07 "The word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar. 00:29:02.10\00:29:05.74 He was driven from men. 00:29:05.77\00:29:07.58 He ate grass like ox and his body was wet 00:29:07.61\00:29:11.01 with the dew of heaven 00:29:11.05\00:29:13.25 till his hair had grown like eagle's feathers 00:29:13.28\00:29:16.75 and his nails, like birds claws." 00:29:16.79\00:29:21.02 There is a rare mental disease called boanthropy. 00:29:21.06\00:29:24.99 And I read a case recently, 00:29:25.03\00:29:27.60 I mean, a recent case of someone who had this, 00:29:27.63\00:29:31.00 they're out in the fields eating grass, 00:29:31.03\00:29:32.53 they think they're cattle 00:29:32.57\00:29:34.44 and their nails were thickened out, 00:29:34.47\00:29:38.57 just like the King Nebuchadnezzar. 00:29:38.61\00:29:40.21 So, this isn't some fairy tale, this stuff happens. 00:29:40.24\00:29:44.41 Now, this is the interesting thing. 00:29:44.45\00:29:45.85 I just have to say. 00:29:45.88\00:29:47.45 His punishment could have been averted. 00:29:47.48\00:29:50.39 I mean, God warned him, 00:29:50.42\00:29:52.39 He forewarned him with His dream. 00:29:52.42\00:29:54.69 Daniel told him the interpretation of the dream 00:29:54.72\00:29:57.86 and often the prophecies of doom are conditional. 00:29:57.89\00:30:02.80 Remember when Ezekiah was on his deathbed 00:30:02.83\00:30:09.57 and the prophet comes to him and says, 00:30:09.60\00:30:10.94 hey, the Lord says, 00:30:10.97\00:30:12.31 "Get your house in order you're gonna die." 00:30:12.34\00:30:14.24 And he turns his face while he's praying 00:30:14.28\00:30:16.85 and he's begging the Lord. 00:30:16.88\00:30:18.28 Well, that word didn't come 00:30:18.31\00:30:19.65 because the prophet comes back and says, 00:30:19.68\00:30:21.22 okay, God's heard your prayers. 00:30:21.25\00:30:22.58 He's going to add, you know, more years to your life. 00:30:22.62\00:30:26.12 Think about when the Ninevites in Jonah 3, 00:30:26.15\00:30:29.22 they truly repented. 00:30:29.26\00:30:31.06 Here God had told Jonah, go in there and tell them 00:30:31.09\00:30:33.40 I'm gonna wipe out their city. 00:30:33.43\00:30:35.66 But they repented, God then repented. 00:30:35.70\00:30:39.17 Malachi 3:6 says, "I'm a Lord, I change not." 00:30:39.20\00:30:43.71 He does not change in His character, 00:30:43.74\00:30:46.17 in His being, in His righteousness, 00:30:46.21\00:30:48.88 His nature. 00:30:48.91\00:30:50.95 Hebrews 13:8 says, 00:30:50.98\00:30:52.31 "Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever." 00:30:52.35\00:30:55.48 So, but He will change, 00:30:55.52\00:30:58.49 sometimes it's like a parent says, 00:30:58.52\00:31:02.22 I'm going to spank you. 00:31:02.26\00:31:03.89 Oh, no, Mommy, please don't, 00:31:03.93\00:31:05.69 I'm going to be a good girl. 00:31:05.73\00:31:07.76 Okay, mommy doesn't follow through 00:31:07.80\00:31:09.86 because you've reversed your action. 00:31:09.90\00:31:11.90 Right? 00:31:11.93\00:31:13.27 So this is what God will often change 00:31:13.30\00:31:15.94 His intended actions toward humans 00:31:15.97\00:31:18.97 who changed their response to Him, right? 00:31:19.01\00:31:22.64 Jeremiah, I just want to read this real quickly 00:31:22.68\00:31:24.95 before we go forward. 00:31:24.98\00:31:26.31 Jeremiah 18:7-8. 00:31:26.35\00:31:28.78 The Lord is speaking. 00:31:28.82\00:31:30.85 Jeremiah 18, and we'll read verses 7 and 8. 00:31:30.89\00:31:35.12 God says, "The instant I speak concerning a nation 00:31:35.16\00:31:38.26 and concerning a kingdom to pluck it up to pull it down 00:31:38.29\00:31:40.90 and to destroy it. 00:31:40.93\00:31:42.26 If that nation against whom I have spoken 00:31:42.30\00:31:45.27 turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster 00:31:45.30\00:31:48.84 that I thought to bring upon it." 00:31:48.87\00:31:52.17 Let's look at verse 9. 00:31:52.21\00:31:53.71 "The instant I speak concerning a nation 00:31:53.74\00:31:56.71 and a kingdom to build in the planet." 00:31:56.75\00:32:00.32 This is the Lord speaking," 00:32:00.35\00:32:01.68 if it does evil in my sight 00:32:01.72\00:32:04.75 so that it does not obey My voice, 00:32:04.79\00:32:07.12 then I won't relent from the good 00:32:07.16\00:32:09.56 that I said I was going to do it." 00:32:09.59\00:32:11.69 So now let's return to Daniel 4:26. 00:32:11.73\00:32:16.00 The purpose of the vision was to teach Nebuchadnezzar 00:32:16.03\00:32:20.60 that heaven rules, right? 00:32:20.64\00:32:22.60 So verse 26, 00:32:22.64\00:32:23.97 "In as much as they gave the command 00:32:24.01\00:32:26.24 to leave the stump and the root of the trees, 00:32:26.27\00:32:29.14 your kingdom shall be assured to you, 00:32:29.18\00:32:32.68 after you come to know that heaven rules." 00:32:32.71\00:32:36.85 Nebuchadnezzar learned but he learned the hard way. 00:32:36.89\00:32:40.19 He, you know, 00:32:40.22\00:32:41.56 God had to deprive him of this authority, 00:32:41.59\00:32:43.49 let him be out in the fields for seven years. 00:32:43.53\00:32:46.86 But he did learn total dependence upon God. 00:32:46.90\00:32:51.60 That is what humility is all about. 00:32:51.63\00:32:54.74 Its' total dependence upon God. 00:32:54.77\00:32:57.71 So let's look at verse, 00:32:57.74\00:33:00.04 God's larger purpose that was in Daniel 4:17, 00:33:00.08\00:33:04.71 we're going to back up. 00:33:04.75\00:33:07.02 Here when he expressed this decree, 00:33:07.05\00:33:09.82 we see the larger purpose. 00:33:09.85\00:33:11.79 "This decision," Daniel says, 00:33:11.82\00:33:15.02 "is by the decree of the watchers, 00:33:15.06\00:33:17.63 and the sentence by the word of the holy ones, 00:33:17.66\00:33:22.26 in order that the living may know 00:33:22.30\00:33:26.60 that the Most High rules in the kingdom of heaven, 00:33:26.63\00:33:30.67 gives it to whomever He will, 00:33:30.71\00:33:33.17 and sets it on the lowest of men." 00:33:33.21\00:33:37.81 The lesson we all need to learn. 00:33:37.85\00:33:40.92 God is sovereign. Yes. 00:33:40.95\00:33:43.15 And we've all been given free will. 00:33:43.18\00:33:46.22 But God still rules over the earth. 00:33:46.25\00:33:48.42 I want to add just to your list of pride. 00:33:48.46\00:33:54.53 Prejudice is pride. 00:33:54.56\00:33:57.13 Well, now. 00:33:57.17\00:33:58.80 If you are prejudiced against any people, 00:33:58.83\00:34:02.07 against any people group, that's pride. 00:34:02.10\00:34:05.07 You think you're better than them. 00:34:05.11\00:34:06.91 But here's the one that's the clincher. 00:34:06.94\00:34:09.41 The Lord once spoke to me because I was kind of offended, 00:34:09.44\00:34:12.41 something somebody had done. 00:34:12.45\00:34:13.78 This is many years ago and I heard this so clearly. 00:34:13.82\00:34:18.15 He said, "The spirit of offense is the spirit of pride." 00:34:18.19\00:34:21.92 Now you think about that for a minute. 00:34:21.96\00:34:24.59 You cannot be offended 00:34:24.63\00:34:27.26 if your pride hasn't been wounded. 00:34:27.30\00:34:29.50 So, what we need to do is learn, 00:34:29.53\00:34:32.93 God's plan is that we would live 00:34:32.97\00:34:36.91 in total dependence upon Him. 00:34:36.94\00:34:39.67 That's true humility as Jesus had. 00:34:39.71\00:34:43.81 Amen, praise the Lord. 00:34:43.85\00:34:46.38 Man, so this entire chapter is powerful, 00:34:46.41\00:34:49.65 as you continue to see what he's going through. 00:34:49.68\00:34:52.09 But my favorite part of it is the end. 00:34:52.12\00:34:54.92 The mother report is to see the powerful conversion 00:34:54.96\00:34:57.56 of this man and how it came about. 00:34:57.59\00:34:59.19 Obviously we know that he's out in the middle of a field, 00:34:59.23\00:35:01.80 he's eating grass like an animal, like a cow. 00:35:01.83\00:35:05.13 His body is hairy. 00:35:05.17\00:35:07.70 You know, I think the Bible says 00:35:07.74\00:35:09.20 it's like the feathers of an eagle. 00:35:09.24\00:35:13.11 I mean, this man is a mess. 00:35:13.14\00:35:15.58 And but yet, God says God has mercy on him, 00:35:15.61\00:35:19.48 because he turned his ways. 00:35:19.51\00:35:21.18 And how did that come about? 00:35:21.22\00:35:22.55 Well, Wednesday's lesson is entitled, 00:35:22.58\00:35:24.62 lifting eyes toward heaven. 00:35:24.65\00:35:27.12 So I'm going to read the closing verses 00:35:27.16\00:35:28.99 of Daniel Chapter 4. 00:35:29.02\00:35:30.39 So we're going to start with verse 34, 00:35:30.43\00:35:32.36 and read through verse 37. 00:35:32.39\00:35:33.90 So the Bible says, starting with verse 34, 00:35:33.93\00:35:37.13 "And at that time," or excuse me, 00:35:37.17\00:35:38.57 "At the end of the time, 00:35:38.60\00:35:40.44 I Nebuchadnezzar lifted my eyes to heaven, 00:35:40.47\00:35:44.44 and my understanding returned to me, 00:35:44.47\00:35:46.61 and I bless the Most High and praised and honored Him 00:35:46.64\00:35:50.08 who lives forever. 00:35:50.11\00:35:51.61 For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, 00:35:51.65\00:35:53.68 and His kingdom is from generation to generation. 00:35:53.72\00:35:56.52 All the inhabitants of the earth 00:35:56.55\00:35:57.89 are reputed as nothing 00:35:57.92\00:35:59.79 He does according to His will in the army of heaven 00:35:59.82\00:36:02.96 and among the inhabitants of the earth, 00:36:02.99\00:36:04.79 no one can restrain His hand or say to Him, 00:36:04.83\00:36:08.13 What have You done? 00:36:08.16\00:36:09.93 At the same time my reason returned to me 00:36:09.96\00:36:12.33 and for the glory of my kingdom, 00:36:12.37\00:36:14.14 my honor and splendor returned to me. 00:36:14.17\00:36:16.81 My counselors and nobles resorted to me, 00:36:16.84\00:36:20.38 and was restored to my kingdom, 00:36:20.41\00:36:22.91 and excellent majesty was added to me. 00:36:22.94\00:36:25.95 Now, I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol 00:36:25.98\00:36:28.48 and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth," 00:36:28.52\00:36:32.99 I love that, "and ways are justice 00:36:33.02\00:36:35.46 and those who walk in pride He is able to put down." 00:36:35.49\00:36:38.93 I just want to say offset as we reading through this, 00:36:38.96\00:36:41.26 you could see a drastic 00:36:41.30\00:36:43.47 not just a small, not just a short 00:36:43.50\00:36:46.60 but a drastic change in his attitude. 00:36:46.63\00:36:48.97 He goes from, 00:36:49.00\00:36:50.34 you know, me, me, me, me, I, I, I, my kingdom to, 00:36:50.37\00:36:52.97 hey, this guy's got a better kingdom than I. 00:36:53.01\00:36:54.84 He's mightier than I, He's more powerful than I, 00:36:54.88\00:36:57.55 and so the focus goes from self to God, 00:36:57.58\00:37:00.42 just as John the Baptist said, 00:37:00.45\00:37:01.78 He must increase and I must decrease, 00:37:01.82\00:37:03.42 that happens right here 00:37:03.45\00:37:04.79 in the life of King Nebuchadnezzar. 00:37:04.82\00:37:06.52 And I also would like to make mention here that, 00:37:06.55\00:37:09.12 you know, we can see now that his focus 00:37:09.16\00:37:11.79 is on the important aspects 00:37:11.83\00:37:14.23 of what it means to live for this mighty God, 00:37:14.26\00:37:16.60 as he says here in the end, 00:37:16.63\00:37:18.03 "His works are truth, and His ways are justice." 00:37:18.07\00:37:20.77 God is a merciful God. 00:37:20.80\00:37:23.77 You can read this entire story, and it just, 00:37:23.81\00:37:27.08 it's overflowing with mercy and grace. 00:37:27.11\00:37:30.61 But at the same time, we also have to make very clear 00:37:30.65\00:37:33.25 that while God is a merciful God, 00:37:33.28\00:37:35.35 He is a gracious God. 00:37:35.38\00:37:37.09 He's a God of justice. Yes. 00:37:37.12\00:37:38.69 He's a God of justice, 00:37:38.72\00:37:40.06 and He will do what is necessary 00:37:40.09\00:37:41.42 to get a hold of our attention. 00:37:41.46\00:37:42.79 And in this case, we would say this is pretty extreme, 00:37:42.82\00:37:45.16 ending up in a field eating grass, like a cow. 00:37:45.19\00:37:48.23 That's pretty extreme. 00:37:48.26\00:37:49.60 And it's powerful to kind of look 00:37:49.63\00:37:50.97 in hindsight of this 00:37:51.00\00:37:52.33 because you might say to yourself, 00:37:52.37\00:37:53.84 you know, how did the king get to this point? 00:37:53.87\00:37:56.00 Because, again, he was given three opportunities 00:37:56.04\00:38:00.31 to recognize and to clearly understand 00:38:00.34\00:38:04.51 who God is, for who He is. 00:38:04.55\00:38:06.65 I'm referencing Daniel Chapter 1, 00:38:06.68\00:38:08.48 he found the Hebrew boys 10 times wiser, 00:38:08.52\00:38:10.92 through that experience, you would think, 00:38:10.95\00:38:12.52 wow, these guys are what, now who is this God you serve. 00:38:12.55\00:38:15.72 But evidently that wasn't the case. 00:38:15.76\00:38:17.69 So that he goes on in Daniel Chapter 2, 00:38:17.73\00:38:19.39 and God shakes his life up with the dream. 00:38:19.43\00:38:22.13 And, of course, out of this dream, 00:38:22.16\00:38:23.50 I could just imagine, as Daniel was telling him, 00:38:23.53\00:38:26.84 not only what he dreamed, 00:38:26.87\00:38:28.20 but the interpretation of this dream, 00:38:28.24\00:38:29.57 you know, they probably had to pick 00:38:29.60\00:38:30.94 this brother up off the floor, 00:38:30.97\00:38:32.31 because he was just astounded, who is this God you serve? 00:38:32.34\00:38:35.88 But it still wasn't enough. 00:38:35.91\00:38:37.38 And then we go into Daniel 3, 00:38:37.41\00:38:38.75 which is what we studied last week. 00:38:38.78\00:38:40.32 He saw the Son of God deliver 00:38:40.35\00:38:43.15 the three Hebrew children from the fire 00:38:43.18\00:38:44.65 and not only did he see them, 00:38:44.69\00:38:46.02 he see God delivered them from the fire. 00:38:46.05\00:38:47.76 He saw God in the fire. Amen. 00:38:47.79\00:38:49.62 And you would think, man, surely that's enough. 00:38:49.66\00:38:51.89 But that's simply not the case. 00:38:51.93\00:38:53.26 And there's someone that says, 00:38:53.29\00:38:54.63 "How can you experience all of that 00:38:54.66\00:38:56.00 and it not be enough?" 00:38:56.03\00:38:57.37 Well, there was an interesting quote here 00:38:57.40\00:38:58.73 if I can find it. 00:38:58.77\00:39:00.10 This comes from Prophets and Kings, page 519. 00:39:00.14\00:39:02.17 It is written here concerning the memory 00:39:02.20\00:39:04.34 of his dream fading from his mind. 00:39:04.37\00:39:06.37 She says he lost confidence 00:39:06.41\00:39:08.44 in the interpretation of the dream 00:39:08.48\00:39:11.08 mentioned in Daniel 2, 00:39:11.11\00:39:12.45 and jested at his former fears. 00:39:12.48\00:39:15.78 And so what is God about to do? 00:39:15.82\00:39:17.32 God is about to wake him up. 00:39:17.35\00:39:19.25 He's about to say, 00:39:19.29\00:39:20.62 Hey, man, let me clarify who I am in your life. 00:39:20.66\00:39:23.19 Let me show you who I really am, 00:39:23.22\00:39:25.09 because we have to take in consideration 00:39:25.13\00:39:27.13 Nebuchadnezzar's concept of God 00:39:27.16\00:39:29.86 was that of the Chaldeans as found in Daniel 2:11, 00:39:29.90\00:39:34.14 which was a totally transcendent God 00:39:34.17\00:39:37.44 who is uninterested in human affairs. 00:39:37.47\00:39:39.97 So each and every one of those powerful acts, 00:39:40.01\00:39:42.08 I could just see Him as, Oh, this is a pretty cool God. 00:39:42.11\00:39:44.08 Oh, He's a really nice guy. Wow, what a powerful God. 00:39:44.11\00:39:46.51 But still, there was that disconnect. 00:39:46.55\00:39:48.58 He couldn't quite put it together. 00:39:48.62\00:39:49.95 Who is this God? 00:39:49.98\00:39:51.32 You see the ancient gods, 00:39:51.35\00:39:53.66 the pagan gods were conceived of 00:39:53.69\00:39:56.02 or conceived of self serving despots and tyrants, 00:39:56.06\00:40:00.46 who did not care about human beings 00:40:00.50\00:40:02.26 except to have them cater to their every whim and fancy, 00:40:02.30\00:40:05.30 and that's exactly how he was viewing God 00:40:05.33\00:40:07.54 up to this point. 00:40:07.57\00:40:08.94 But seven years on a field would change that. 00:40:08.97\00:40:11.94 And so we see that God shows him exactly who He is 00:40:11.97\00:40:14.84 slowly but surely. 00:40:14.88\00:40:17.25 The Hebrew God changes the king's concept of himself. 00:40:17.28\00:40:21.48 He became to see 00:40:21.52\00:40:22.85 that God wanted to communicate His will 00:40:22.88\00:40:25.95 to human beings. 00:40:25.99\00:40:27.32 That's right. 00:40:27.36\00:40:28.69 He saw it, and I made a list here of powerful things 00:40:28.72\00:40:30.06 here that we can gather from this, 00:40:30.09\00:40:31.53 he came to see Him as a God 00:40:31.56\00:40:34.86 who is interested in human affairs, 00:40:34.90\00:40:37.07 generally and specific persons in particular. 00:40:37.10\00:40:40.94 In fact, he came to realize 00:40:40.97\00:40:42.30 that the Hebrew God was interested in saving him. 00:40:42.34\00:40:45.14 Amen. 00:40:45.17\00:40:46.51 He slowly came to realize 00:40:46.54\00:40:47.88 that God is not only the high and lofty one, 00:40:47.91\00:40:50.55 but is also with those of humble and contrite hearts. 00:40:50.58\00:40:54.28 That is, God is concerned with His earthly children. 00:40:54.32\00:40:58.52 He saw this clearly 00:40:58.55\00:40:59.89 when Jesus Himself came into the furnace 00:40:59.92\00:41:02.06 to deliver His servants from certain death. 00:41:02.09\00:41:04.39 And that's got to be powerful, a powerful witness indeed. 00:41:04.43\00:41:07.13 He saw the Hebrew God as the patient, 00:41:07.16\00:41:10.03 and long suffering God 00:41:10.07\00:41:11.73 who does all in His power to save. 00:41:11.77\00:41:14.44 And we see that through this story, 00:41:14.47\00:41:16.07 through this very story, 00:41:16.10\00:41:17.44 God was not willing to give up on Nebuchadnezzar, 00:41:17.47\00:41:19.44 just as He's not willing to give up on you. 00:41:19.47\00:41:21.41 He's not willing to give up on us. 00:41:21.44\00:41:22.78 He's going to do everything He can 00:41:22.81\00:41:24.48 to reach us on our level 00:41:24.51\00:41:25.98 to wake us up, to shake us, to say, hey, I'm here. 00:41:26.01\00:41:28.45 I'm here to serve you. 00:41:28.48\00:41:29.82 I'm here to be your God, if you would allow me to. 00:41:29.85\00:41:32.59 God even gave the king 12 months 00:41:32.62\00:41:34.49 as Jill, excuse me, Shelley clearly mentioned, 00:41:34.52\00:41:37.49 God even gave the king 12 months 00:41:37.53\00:41:39.09 after the dream to repent in order to avert punishment. 00:41:39.13\00:41:42.23 And that's a good example of that classical prophecy 00:41:42.26\00:41:45.63 that was studied from lesson one of this series. 00:41:45.67\00:41:48.24 And the fact that it was conditional, 00:41:48.27\00:41:49.74 God was willing to wipe away all of that 00:41:49.77\00:41:52.01 and not have him go through any of that 00:41:52.04\00:41:53.98 if only he would have turned from his pride, 00:41:54.01\00:41:56.34 and he would have lived 00:41:56.38\00:41:57.71 and given his heart to the Lord. 00:41:57.75\00:41:59.61 But, of course, through it all, 00:41:59.65\00:42:00.98 we see that this king finally truly is converted. 00:42:01.02\00:42:04.12 And I have to mention as to how this comes about, 00:42:04.15\00:42:06.42 which is the title of this lesson, 00:42:06.45\00:42:08.49 because we know that it all came about 00:42:08.52\00:42:11.16 once he lifted his eyes toward heaven. 00:42:11.19\00:42:16.50 You know, truly there is life, 00:42:16.53\00:42:19.50 in a look toward heaven. 00:42:19.53\00:42:21.30 Amen. 00:42:21.34\00:42:22.67 There is life in a look at our Savior, 00:42:22.70\00:42:24.24 we would just lift our eyes and place them on Jesus, 00:42:24.27\00:42:26.64 as Jesus said, put first the Kingdom of God, 00:42:26.68\00:42:29.21 if we would just lift our eyes towards heaven 00:42:29.24\00:42:31.05 as King Nebuchadnezzar did, I think all of us, 00:42:31.08\00:42:33.01 many of us would see a major conversion 00:42:33.05\00:42:36.35 and experience in our life, I think of 1 Chronicles 16:11, 00:42:36.38\00:42:40.36 and I've chose the NIV version of this 00:42:40.39\00:42:42.22 because it clearly communicates what the original says. 00:42:42.26\00:42:45.09 And it says, "Look to the Lord and His strength, 00:42:45.13\00:42:48.20 seek his face always." 00:42:48.23\00:42:50.73 Yeah. 00:42:50.77\00:42:52.10 And I think of, you know, there's some Bible characters, 00:42:52.13\00:42:54.50 that their life was changed 00:42:54.54\00:42:57.04 when they had a look towards heaven 00:42:57.07\00:42:58.94 or looked towards their God, 00:42:58.97\00:43:00.48 I think of Abraham in Genesis 13:14, 00:43:00.51\00:43:03.58 on the establishment of that beautiful covenant 00:43:03.61\00:43:06.41 that the Lord made of him. 00:43:06.45\00:43:07.78 He said there, it says, and the Lord said to Abraham, 00:43:07.82\00:43:10.02 after Lot had separated from him, 00:43:10.05\00:43:11.39 "Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are." 00:43:11.42\00:43:14.76 So, take your eyes off Babylon, 00:43:14.79\00:43:16.42 because God called Abraham out of Babylon. 00:43:16.46\00:43:18.96 Take your eyes off Babylon, and put it on God's kingdom. 00:43:18.99\00:43:22.83 Also think of Moses. 00:43:22.86\00:43:24.83 When Moses looked into that burning bush, 00:43:24.87\00:43:26.63 he was looking into the very presence 00:43:26.67\00:43:29.14 and very face of the Lord. 00:43:29.17\00:43:30.81 And we know that Moses also had that experience 00:43:30.84\00:43:33.17 with the serpent in the wilderness, 00:43:33.21\00:43:34.84 remember the serpents that came about the kingdom. 00:43:34.88\00:43:36.75 What did he have to do? 00:43:36.78\00:43:38.11 He put it on a pole 00:43:38.15\00:43:39.48 and how were the children of Israel saved? 00:43:39.51\00:43:41.25 Simply by looking in faith they were saved, 00:43:41.28\00:43:44.79 I think of David. I love this scripture. 00:43:44.82\00:43:47.22 Psalm 123:1-2, I love this. 00:43:47.26\00:43:50.89 "Unto you I lift my eyes. 00:43:50.93\00:43:53.13 He says, O you who dwell in the heavens, behold, 00:43:53.16\00:43:56.03 as the eyes of servants, 00:43:56.06\00:43:58.07 look to the hand of their masters. 00:43:58.10\00:43:59.97 As the eyes of a maid the hand of their mistress, 00:44:00.00\00:44:03.24 so our eyes look to the Lord, 00:44:03.27\00:44:05.17 our God until he has mercy on us." 00:44:05.21\00:44:08.78 I think of Isaiah, Pastor, you mentioned it earlier. 00:44:08.81\00:44:11.55 He had an experience in which he looked 00:44:11.58\00:44:13.31 and saw God seated high on His throne. 00:44:13.35\00:44:15.78 He saw His Majesty, His righteousness, 00:44:15.82\00:44:18.19 and then he saw his dirtiness and what was his response, 00:44:18.22\00:44:20.69 "Woe is me Lord, I am undone. 00:44:20.72\00:44:23.59 I'm a man of unclean lips." 00:44:23.63\00:44:25.33 Conversion came out of that. 00:44:25.36\00:44:27.43 We also see Zachariah again in Zachariah 5:5, Chapter 5:5, 00:44:27.46\00:44:32.47 "Lift up your eyes, the Lord said to him, 00:44:32.50\00:44:34.77 Jesus, He's lifting His eyes to heaven." 00:44:34.80\00:44:38.54 Jesus lifted His eyes to heaven to pray to His Father 00:44:38.57\00:44:41.51 in John Chapter 17. 00:44:41.54\00:44:42.91 And, of course, we know that Jesus says, 00:44:42.94\00:44:44.45 if I am lifted up, 00:44:44.48\00:44:46.38 I will draw all peoples to myself. 00:44:46.41\00:44:49.78 Lift your eyes to heaven, my friends, 00:44:49.82\00:44:51.72 behold the Lord's majesty, behold His righteousness, 00:44:51.75\00:44:55.22 and we shall and can be converted, 00:44:55.26\00:44:57.59 just as Nebuchadnezzar was. 00:44:57.63\00:44:58.99 Amen. Amen. 00:44:59.03\00:45:00.40 Powerful study, I've just been so blessed 00:45:00.43\00:45:02.66 listening to each one of you, 00:45:02.70\00:45:04.33 the Holy Spirit's working to convict my own heart 00:45:04.37\00:45:07.00 in those areas that he says, Jill, I want you to grow here. 00:45:07.04\00:45:10.37 What I love is that God uses the gentlest means possible 00:45:10.41\00:45:15.51 to get our attention. 00:45:15.54\00:45:17.18 Now, in Nebuchadnezzar's case, he used some gentle means, 00:45:17.21\00:45:20.35 and then some not so gentle means 00:45:20.38\00:45:22.02 and then we saw some pretty, we could say, 00:45:22.05\00:45:24.29 stern or fierce measures, 00:45:24.32\00:45:26.32 because God loved Nebuchadnezzar. 00:45:26.35\00:45:29.96 And He wanted him saved in His Kingdom. 00:45:29.99\00:45:31.96 What a merciful God we serve. 00:45:31.99\00:45:34.46 He could have said, okay, we're just leaving him 00:45:34.50\00:45:36.77 and he can stay in his pride, and I'm done with him. 00:45:36.80\00:45:40.20 But yet He loved him enough. 00:45:40.24\00:45:43.81 Even though he went through this hardship, 00:45:43.84\00:45:46.41 that it brought about his conversion. 00:45:46.44\00:45:48.44 So on Thursday, we look at humble and grateful. 00:45:48.48\00:45:51.01 I have the same verses that Ryan had, 00:45:51.05\00:45:53.52 so I'm not going to read them again. 00:45:53.55\00:45:55.18 We're going to instead trace the steps 00:45:55.22\00:45:57.62 of Nebuchadnezzar's conversion, 00:45:57.65\00:45:59.75 and then we will look at 00:45:59.79\00:46:01.59 how we know that Nebuchadnezzar was really converted. 00:46:01.62\00:46:05.09 The lesson talks about that on Thursday's lesson. 00:46:05.13\00:46:07.80 So let's trace the steps in his conversion. 00:46:07.83\00:46:10.37 Now in everyone's conversion, there's many steps. 00:46:10.40\00:46:13.03 You could say it doesn't just begin with the initial, 00:46:13.07\00:46:15.80 there's many steps and of course in his there's, 00:46:15.84\00:46:18.57 I'm sure more than what I'm going to say. 00:46:18.61\00:46:20.51 But as I read the scriptures, 00:46:20.54\00:46:21.94 I find at least six steps in his conversion. 00:46:21.98\00:46:24.28 The first step is that God brought, Pastor Ryan, 00:46:24.31\00:46:27.55 God fearing men to the kingdom of Babylon. 00:46:27.58\00:46:29.88 Amen. 00:46:29.92\00:46:31.25 God knew that Nebuchadnezzar had no contact 00:46:31.29\00:46:33.49 with anyone except for those pagan gods. 00:46:33.52\00:46:35.39 That's right. 00:46:35.42\00:46:36.76 And the Chaldeans and their wisdom. 00:46:36.79\00:46:38.13 So God brought God fearing men, 00:46:38.16\00:46:40.03 this would be Daniel and his three friends 00:46:40.06\00:46:42.13 to the kingdom of Babylon. 00:46:42.16\00:46:44.07 Step number two, we see in Daniel Chapter 1, 00:46:44.10\00:46:46.97 that God enabled Daniel and his friends 00:46:47.00\00:46:50.74 to stand for principle. 00:46:50.77\00:46:53.04 Now this, the king seemed very ignorant 00:46:53.07\00:46:55.71 of their God at this time. 00:46:55.74\00:46:57.21 And as you read Daniel 1, you kind of see that. 00:46:57.25\00:46:59.31 But he somehow recognizes the superior wisdom 00:46:59.35\00:47:03.42 and knowledge that Daniel and his friends possess. 00:47:03.45\00:47:06.92 Now he doesn't really know the purpose 00:47:06.96\00:47:08.79 and the reason behind that. 00:47:08.82\00:47:10.56 But he still sees that these men are superior. 00:47:10.59\00:47:13.70 And I would imagine that somehow in his mind, 00:47:13.73\00:47:15.76 he thought, what's going on here? 00:47:15.80\00:47:17.90 Number three, Daniel Chapter 2, 00:47:17.93\00:47:20.14 God sent the dream of the image and the interpretation. 00:47:20.17\00:47:23.24 Now we know there's many reasons 00:47:23.27\00:47:24.61 for the sending of that dream. 00:47:24.64\00:47:26.07 But I think one of them is that the king could learn 00:47:26.11\00:47:28.91 that God is all wise, 00:47:28.94\00:47:30.58 We see Nebuchadnezzar's response in Daniel 2:46, 00:47:33.85\00:47:37.25 he falls prostrate on the ground 00:47:37.29\00:47:40.02 before Daniel so he's not, 00:47:40.06\00:47:42.02 he's not honoring God at this point. 00:47:42.06\00:47:43.89 He's honoring a man. 00:47:43.93\00:47:46.26 But he does acknowledge God in the next verse, Verse 47. 00:47:46.29\00:47:49.20 He says, "Truly, your God is the God of gods." 00:47:49.23\00:47:51.80 So he acknowledges at this point, 00:47:51.83\00:47:54.40 that God is all wise and able to foretell the future. 00:47:54.44\00:47:58.61 And Daniel 3, as you talk about, Ryan, 00:47:58.64\00:48:00.54 it goes a step further. 00:48:00.58\00:48:02.94 He learns that God is not only all wise, 00:48:02.98\00:48:05.75 but God is all powerful. 00:48:05.78\00:48:07.58 God can deliver His children. 00:48:07.62\00:48:10.95 Now he acknowledges God in Daniel 3:28. 00:48:10.99\00:48:15.09 "Nebuchadnezzar spoke saying, 'Blessed be the God 00:48:15.12\00:48:17.23 of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.' 00:48:17.26\00:48:19.23 He sent his angel and delivered his servants 00:48:19.26\00:48:21.36 who trusted in Him.'" 00:48:21.40\00:48:22.76 So you can see Nebuchadnezzar's knowledge 00:48:22.80\00:48:24.93 of who God is, 00:48:24.97\00:48:26.30 and his character is growing as it were. 00:48:26.33\00:48:29.54 But we also see in verse 29, that he pronounces a punishment 00:48:29.57\00:48:33.54 against those who don't serve this God. 00:48:33.58\00:48:36.24 So really, he's not converted at this point, 00:48:36.28\00:48:38.71 you can clearly see that, 00:48:38.75\00:48:40.08 that he does not understand who God is. 00:48:40.12\00:48:42.78 Then God sent the dream of the tree 00:48:42.82\00:48:44.45 that we've been talking about here in Daniel Chapter 4. 00:48:44.49\00:48:47.02 This is a warning to Nebuchadnezzar, 00:48:47.06\00:48:49.46 and we know Daniel 4 occurred several years 00:48:49.49\00:48:51.99 after Daniel Chapter 3. 00:48:52.03\00:48:53.70 God had given him time and then we get to Daniel 4, 00:48:53.73\00:48:56.13 in this, Shelley, you brought out 00:48:56.16\00:48:57.50 there was the 12 months, 00:48:57.53\00:48:59.10 that he had Daniel appeal to him, 00:48:59.13\00:49:02.07 please, would you break off your sins, 00:49:02.10\00:49:04.07 please would you repent, 00:49:04.11\00:49:06.04 and he hardened his heart and pride 00:49:06.07\00:49:09.58 against the Most High God. 00:49:09.61\00:49:13.95 And then the sixth step that I see in his conversion 00:49:13.98\00:49:16.58 is actually the fulfillment of the dream. 00:49:16.62\00:49:18.69 We could say that's judgment that came against him. 00:49:18.72\00:49:21.66 You know, you think about the children of Israel, 00:49:21.69\00:49:23.66 they did not follow God and they worshiped other gods, 00:49:23.69\00:49:27.63 the heathen gods and what happened? 00:49:27.66\00:49:30.60 They were brought into the land of captivity 00:49:30.63\00:49:33.30 here in Babylon for the 70 years as a result. 00:49:33.34\00:49:37.11 Now God had called through the prophets to the children 00:49:37.14\00:49:39.21 of Israel before that time, 00:49:39.24\00:49:40.78 there had been a measure of repentance 00:49:40.81\00:49:42.48 and then backsliding 00:49:42.51\00:49:43.85 and then a measure of repentance 00:49:43.88\00:49:45.21 and then backsliding. 00:49:45.25\00:49:46.61 And then God used even stronger measures, 00:49:46.65\00:49:49.15 that was the 70 years captivity to get their attention. 00:49:49.18\00:49:53.62 So the same thing with Nebuchadnezzar. 00:49:53.66\00:49:55.32 God used pretty strong measures in order to get his attention. 00:49:55.36\00:49:59.16 All that happens to the king 00:49:59.19\00:50:00.73 is not for his ultimate destruction, 00:50:00.76\00:50:03.70 but it is for his deliverance. 00:50:03.73\00:50:05.37 It's for his salvation. 00:50:05.40\00:50:07.44 It's for his redemption and restoration. 00:50:07.47\00:50:11.37 The king decides to trust this God with his life 00:50:11.41\00:50:15.38 and allow Christ to come in and change him. 00:50:15.41\00:50:17.58 I love those references you used, Ryan, 00:50:17.61\00:50:20.08 when he lifted his eyes up to heaven. 00:50:20.12\00:50:22.58 So, how do we know 00:50:22.62\00:50:23.95 that Nebuchadnezzar was truly converted? 00:50:23.99\00:50:26.55 There's probably many, 00:50:26.59\00:50:27.92 but I can think of at least seven. 00:50:27.96\00:50:29.89 Number one, he referenced in this chapter, 00:50:29.92\00:50:33.96 his pride and his mistakes. 00:50:34.00\00:50:36.00 Now, the lesson brought out, 00:50:36.03\00:50:37.97 that ancient monarchs would rarely write 00:50:38.00\00:50:40.54 anything derogatory against themselves. 00:50:40.57\00:50:43.07 If you read the ancient world documents, 00:50:43.10\00:50:45.21 they always glorify the king. 00:50:45.24\00:50:46.78 That's just how the ancient kings would do it. 00:50:46.81\00:50:50.18 But he is the author of Daniel 4, he and Daniel, 00:50:50.21\00:50:55.02 but portions of it are written by Nebuchadnezzar, 00:50:55.05\00:50:57.55 and it's very clear that he points out his faults 00:50:57.59\00:51:02.32 and his failures and his pride against the Most High God. 00:51:02.36\00:51:07.60 Number two, he desires to share this God with others, 00:51:07.63\00:51:12.17 now not in the way that he desired to do it before 00:51:12.20\00:51:14.54 where he says I'm gonna cut you in pieces. 00:51:14.57\00:51:17.11 So it wasn't that type of desire. 00:51:17.14\00:51:19.31 He wanted them to know this God for themselves. 00:51:19.34\00:51:22.84 He wanted them to acknowledge Him, 00:51:22.88\00:51:24.41 and to understand Him, and to know Him. 00:51:24.45\00:51:27.35 So that's why he wrote this letter 00:51:27.38\00:51:29.12 to all of his subjects. 00:51:29.15\00:51:30.65 I think of 1 Peter 2:9, 00:51:30.69\00:51:32.75 "We are called to proclaim the praises of Him 00:51:32.79\00:51:35.92 who has called us out of darkness 00:51:35.96\00:51:38.03 into this marvelous light." 00:51:38.06\00:51:39.89 No sooner does one accept the Lord Jesus Christ 00:51:39.93\00:51:42.60 into their heart, then they become a missionary. 00:51:42.63\00:51:46.30 As soon as we make Jesus the Lord of our lives, 00:51:46.33\00:51:50.44 we want to go and tell, 00:51:50.47\00:51:51.81 we want to tell what he has done in our lives. 00:51:51.84\00:51:54.91 And I see Daniel 4 as his go and tell, 00:51:54.94\00:51:57.38 Nebuchadnezzar wants to say, this is who I was, 00:51:57.41\00:52:00.75 this is how far I had fallen, 00:52:00.78\00:52:03.39 this was my arrogance against the God of heaven. 00:52:03.42\00:52:06.99 And yet in His mercy, He brought judgment on me, 00:52:07.02\00:52:10.93 so that I could repent. 00:52:10.96\00:52:12.89 And I could follow this God with all my heart, 00:52:12.93\00:52:16.13 so he wanted to share this 00:52:16.16\00:52:17.50 with the subjects of his kingdom. 00:52:17.53\00:52:19.57 Number three, we see his praise of God. 00:52:19.60\00:52:23.81 And Daniel 4:34, you talked about that, 00:52:23.84\00:52:26.57 how he identifies God as being eternal, 00:52:26.61\00:52:29.41 living forever. 00:52:29.44\00:52:31.71 He says, "At the end of the time, 00:52:31.75\00:52:33.08 I Nebuchadnezzar lifted my eyes to heaven 00:52:33.11\00:52:34.95 and my understanding returned to me 00:52:34.98\00:52:36.38 and I blessed the Most High 00:52:36.42\00:52:37.82 and praised and honored Him who lives forever. 00:52:37.85\00:52:41.36 And he honored Him 00:52:41.39\00:52:42.72 because His dominion is an everlasting dominion, 00:52:42.76\00:52:45.16 and His kingdom is from generation to generation. 00:52:45.19\00:52:48.20 Number four, 00:52:48.23\00:52:49.56 he recognized who he was in relationship to who God is. 00:52:49.60\00:52:53.57 I think everyone on the panel has referenced that today, 00:52:53.60\00:52:57.34 as well as Isaiah 6 00:52:57.37\00:52:58.71 where Isaiah all of a sudden 00:52:58.74\00:53:00.14 recognized who he was in relationship to God, 00:53:00.18\00:53:03.95 who was high and holy and lifted. 00:53:03.98\00:53:07.42 He recognized who he is, 00:53:07.45\00:53:08.82 I think conversion begins at that place. 00:53:08.85\00:53:10.59 Yes. 00:53:10.62\00:53:11.95 You know, recognizing, who is God? 00:53:11.99\00:53:14.12 Who am I in contrast to who God is? 00:53:14.16\00:53:17.59 That's right. 00:53:17.63\00:53:18.96 We have to recognize that before we even realize our sin 00:53:18.99\00:53:21.00 and our desire to come to Him and repent. 00:53:21.03\00:53:23.77 And, of course, we know it is the goodness of God 00:53:23.80\00:53:25.60 that leads us to repentance. 00:53:25.63\00:53:26.97 That's right. 00:53:27.00\00:53:28.34 So it's not only, 00:53:28.37\00:53:29.70 it's not something we conjure up in ourselves. 00:53:29.74\00:53:31.17 God is the one who brings us to that place of recognition 00:53:31.21\00:53:33.98 of who He is. 00:53:34.01\00:53:35.34 God is the one who brings us to recognition 00:53:35.38\00:53:36.71 of who we are in our sinfulness. 00:53:36.75\00:53:38.88 He's the one who draws us to Christ in repentance. 00:53:38.91\00:53:42.48 He's the one who puts that in our heart. 00:53:42.52\00:53:44.55 So I'm so thankful for that. 00:53:44.59\00:53:46.25 Number five, he acknowledges the sovereignty of God. 00:53:46.29\00:53:51.36 And Daniel 4:35, the second part, 00:53:51.39\00:53:54.66 "He does according to His will, 00:53:54.70\00:53:56.03 in the army of heaven 00:53:56.06\00:53:57.40 and among the inhabitants of earth." 00:53:57.43\00:53:58.77 He recognize that God is sovereign over all, 00:53:58.80\00:54:02.04 that is a reoccurring theme actually 00:54:02.07\00:54:03.84 throughout the entire Book of Daniel. 00:54:03.87\00:54:05.87 Number six, he recognizes the justice of God. 00:54:05.91\00:54:09.18 Now you can recognize God is sovereign, 00:54:09.21\00:54:11.05 but to recognize that He is just 00:54:11.08\00:54:12.85 and what His ways are truth and His ways are just. 00:54:12.88\00:54:18.29 Finally number seven. 00:54:18.32\00:54:19.65 I want to read this quote from Sister White. 00:54:19.69\00:54:21.42 This is Prophets and Kings, 521. 00:54:21.46\00:54:24.63 "The once proud monarch had become a humble child of God, 00:54:24.66\00:54:28.83 the tyrannical, overbearing ruler, 00:54:28.86\00:54:30.90 a wise and compassionate king. 00:54:30.93\00:54:33.60 He who had defied 00:54:33.64\00:54:34.97 and blasphemed the God of heaven, 00:54:35.00\00:54:36.34 now acknowledge the power of the Most High, 00:54:36.37\00:54:38.57 and earnestly sought to promote the fear of Jehovah 00:54:38.61\00:54:41.34 and the happiness of his subjects. 00:54:41.38\00:54:43.98 Under the rebuke of Him who is King of kings 00:54:44.01\00:54:46.01 and Lord of lords." 00:54:46.05\00:54:47.38 Nebuchadnezzar had at last learned the lesson, 00:54:47.42\00:54:50.29 which all rulers and I'd say everyone needs to learn, 00:54:50.32\00:54:53.46 that true greatness consists in true goodness. 00:54:53.49\00:54:57.13 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:54:57.16\00:54:59.09 What a mountain of information, 00:54:59.13\00:55:01.26 you know, and there's much more something like, 00:55:01.30\00:55:03.16 we feel like we just scratched the surface, 00:55:03.20\00:55:05.00 don't we, of these things 00:55:05.03\00:55:06.37 because we have just a limited amount of time. 00:55:06.40\00:55:08.17 And sometimes people will write and say, 00:55:08.20\00:55:09.60 "Well, why didn't you cover this and cover that?" 00:55:09.64\00:55:11.57 Well, that's some of your homework too. 00:55:11.61\00:55:12.97 But just you know, as the Holy Spirit impresses 00:55:13.01\00:55:14.91 all the vast amount of information 00:55:14.94\00:55:17.15 to kind of condense it down in about 10 minutes, 00:55:17.18\00:55:19.08 sometimes difficult to, 00:55:19.11\00:55:20.52 but on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, praise God. 00:55:20.55\00:55:22.48 Okay, we got a few moments left. 00:55:22.52\00:55:24.02 Some last thoughts, Pastor John. 00:55:24.05\00:55:25.55 Well, the key to what I saw 00:55:25.59\00:55:27.62 in Nebuchadnezzar's treatment of the poor, 00:55:27.66\00:55:31.03 I leave you with this thought, 00:55:31.06\00:55:32.76 treat others the way you would like to be treated. 00:55:32.79\00:55:36.60 Isaiah 58:6-8. 00:55:36.63\00:55:38.80 "Is this not the fast that I have chosen 00:55:38.83\00:55:41.37 to lose the bonds of wickedness, 00:55:41.40\00:55:43.44 to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free. 00:55:43.47\00:55:47.48 And that you break every yoke? 00:55:47.51\00:55:50.21 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry 00:55:50.25\00:55:53.78 and that you bring to your house 00:55:53.82\00:55:55.98 the poor who are cast out, 00:55:56.02\00:55:58.25 when you see the naked that you cover him 00:55:58.29\00:56:01.96 and not hide yourself from your own flesh," 00:56:01.99\00:56:04.66 that means your own family, 00:56:04.69\00:56:06.56 "then your light shall break forth like the morning, 00:56:06.59\00:56:09.73 your healing shall spring forth speedily. 00:56:09.76\00:56:12.13 And your righteousness shall go before you, 00:56:12.17\00:56:15.00 the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard." 00:56:15.04\00:56:18.37 Amen. Amen. 00:56:18.41\00:56:19.74 I think James 1:17 that says, 00:56:19.77\00:56:21.51 "Every good and perfect gift comes 00:56:21.54\00:56:24.25 from the father of heavenly lights, 00:56:24.28\00:56:27.68 in whom there's no variation 00:56:27.72\00:56:29.48 and there is no shadow of turning." 00:56:29.52\00:56:31.22 Let me tell you something. 00:56:31.25\00:56:32.62 Pride is a deception. 00:56:32.65\00:56:35.12 Everything that we have comes from God's providential hand. 00:56:35.16\00:56:40.10 So there's no room for boasting. 00:56:40.13\00:56:42.16 That's right. 00:56:42.20\00:56:43.53 It doesn't matter what you have. 00:56:43.57\00:56:46.27 God is the giver of every good and perfect gift. 00:56:46.30\00:56:50.61 And pride can harden your heart and drive you crazy, 00:56:50.64\00:56:54.84 just like it did with Nebuchadnezzar. 00:56:54.88\00:56:57.78 Yeah, absolutely. 00:56:57.81\00:56:59.15 You know, as I was going through my lesson, 00:56:59.18\00:57:00.95 about Nebuchadnezzar lifting his eyes, 00:57:00.98\00:57:03.59 I thought of John Chapter 3, 00:57:03.62\00:57:05.95 where Jesus is communicating the salvation, 00:57:05.99\00:57:08.79 clearly so communicated to Nicodemus, 00:57:08.82\00:57:13.06 and Jesus says something there in verses 14 and 15. 00:57:13.09\00:57:16.26 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness 00:57:16.30\00:57:18.33 even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 00:57:18.37\00:57:20.57 that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, 00:57:20.60\00:57:23.07 but have eternal life." 00:57:23.10\00:57:24.44 I think that we still have that today, 00:57:24.47\00:57:26.01 if we'll just lift our eyes to heaven. 00:57:26.04\00:57:27.38 Amen. 00:57:27.41\00:57:28.74 We've been talking about the problem of pride here. 00:57:28.78\00:57:30.11 Sin originated in self seeking with Lucifer, 00:57:30.15\00:57:33.35 but Christ is the perfect example 00:57:33.38\00:57:35.42 of self sacrificing love. 00:57:35.45\00:57:37.22 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:57:37.25\00:57:38.99 This is a little quote here from Education, 177 and 178. 00:57:39.02\00:57:43.99 Just a couple lines that "He setteth above the cherubim, 00:57:44.03\00:57:46.36 He guides the affairs of the earth. 00:57:46.39\00:57:48.33 He overrides all for the accomplishments 00:57:48.36\00:57:50.27 of his purpose." 00:57:50.30\00:57:51.63 Amen. 00:57:51.67\00:57:53.00 So I just want to encourage each one of you. 00:57:53.03\00:57:54.37 If you want to keep your mind, 00:57:54.40\00:57:57.11 then dedicate it, give it to Jesus Christ. 00:57:57.14\00:58:00.44 Give it to Jesus Christ. 00:58:00.48\00:58:01.81 Next week we come together 00:58:01.84\00:58:03.18 we're going to be on lesson number six 00:58:03.21\00:58:04.55 from arrogance to destruction. 00:58:04.58\00:58:06.88 God bless you. We'll see you next time. 00:58:06.92\00:58:08.52
