He was a governmental servant.

of God's dealings with him.

I think Daniel contains
some of the most comprehensive

and sweeping revelations
recorded by any prophet

in the Old Testament.

And they say with
the exception of Moses,

and maybe Solomon,

that Daniel was one
of the most educated men

who wrote in the Old Testament.

Now the Book of Daniel,

are some controversy

We know Daniel was
taken captive in 605 BC

by the Babylonians

and as a young man
brought into Babylon to serve.

If you think about
themes from the Book of Daniel,

there's many themes but
I'm just gonna highlight

three before we jump
into Sunday's lesson.

The first theme of
the Book of Daniel,

from my perspective,
is that God is sovereign.

And He rules over
the affairs of men.

He's still sovereign,
00:05:10.44\00:05:11.77
even when it seems like
His people are being oppressed,

taken into captivity,
thrown in the lions' den,
00:05:15.01\00:05:17.98
God is still sovereign.

And He delivers
those who are loyal to Him.

You know the name
Daniel means God is my judge.

God is still sovereign
over the affairs of men.

The second theme I see
is that God sees the future.

There's a great deal of
prophecy in the Book of Daniel,

apocalyptic prophecies,

revelatory prophecies future

for telling the Messiah
and His ministry and death,

for telling the work
of the heavenly sanctuary.

The prophetic outline
of Daniel spans centuries.

And we also see,

the third theme is
that God reveals His love.

It's not just that God is
sovereign over everything,

but God is intimately
concerned with the details

that concern you and I.

We know Daniel and Revelation

are almost sister
books you could say,

We see Christ enabling Daniel

for the portion

He didn't stand
on his own strength.

We know all our

Christ reveals the future

That Christ will judge
the nations of the world.

thrown into the fiery furnace,

Daniel is that

most of the book is Hebrews,

but Daniel 2-7 is
written in Aramaic.

picture of those nations

different types of prophecies

things we have to guard against.

There is no prophecy
with a dual fulfillment.

but no dual fulfillment.

Now you might say,

"Well, I could see Daniel 7

in its actual
unfolding characteristic."

But I could also see
it in another aspect.

Let me give you an example,
I'll use Revelation here.
00:15:13.04\00:15:15.38
We have seven
churches in Revelation
00:15:15.41\00:15:17.18
that cover seven
different time periods.
00:15:17.21\00:15:19.25
But then in the last days,
00:15:19.28\00:15:20.62
we could see all seven
of those conditions existing
00:15:20.65\00:15:23.35
in different churches,
in different countries,
00:15:23.39\00:15:25.22
in different settings
from the one that's, you know,
00:15:25.25\00:15:28.49
completely
allegiant to the Lord,
00:15:28.52\00:15:30.69
to the one that is filled
with brotherly love all the way
00:15:30.73\00:15:32.76
down to the one
that is just lukewarm.

So the four types of prophecies
that are majorly focused

in the Book of Daniel.

First is local
prophecies, what kind of I say?

The local prophecies,

the local prophecies

in specifics to Nebuchadnezzar.

pertain to Belshazzar.

other king outside of that.

And when that prophecy is
fulfilled, it's fulfilled.

The humbling of Nebuchadnezzar
is a perfect example of that.

Nebuchadnezzar comes on
the scene from Chapter 1

and in Chapter 4 he
passes off the scene,

but his kingdom
is mentioned again,

in obviously in Daniel 2,
00:16:09.63\00:16:11.97
all four of the
kingdoms were mentioned.

And then when Daniel
has a dream later on,

then he's mentioned again

in the four beasts
of Daniel Chapter 7.

But Nebuchadnezzar as he reigns

and his reign comes to
an end those prophecies

that what we
consider local prophecies.

You find also in the
prophecy of the city of Nineveh.

the four books of Jonah...

But then you could find
application to that and saying,

"Well, if there's a city

dual fulfillment.

You also find Judaic prophecy.

Obviously, the book
begins with the Judaic prophecy

because Judah is
taken into captivity,

from Jerusalem into Babylon.

But while Daniel is there,

you'll find
throughout the Book of Daniel,

many of the things
that are talked about

while Daniel is still alive,

pertains to Judah.

When he asked the question,

how long is it
gonna be before we return?

How long is it gonna be
before we get back to our city?

And then the Lord gives
him the 70 week prophecy.

Seventy weeks are
determined for you

and for your
people and for your city.

That's the Judaic prophecy.

And as Jill pointed out,
they're messianic prophecies,

which means, obviously,
the word Messianic is Christ.

Once again, he
appears in the Book of Daniel,

in each of the chapters

you can find a
component of Christ

in every story in
the Book of Daniel,

from Christ in the
very first chapter,

where He is
there with His people,

He may have allowed them.

Let me rephrase that.

He allowed them to
be corrected in Babylon.

When Babylon was
done with its correction,

God stood up and
corrected Babylon.

So He never really
forsook His people.

He used them as
a correcting stick,

but He did not choose
them above His people.

Then you find in the
very end of the chapter,

Christ stands up
again, when Michael stands up.

So he's all through the
book, as Jill made very clear.

So the Judaic prophecies

that
particularly refer to Judah,

Israel, those prophecies,

the Lord, many of the books
of the Old Testament have them.

In Daniel, as I point out
these four types of prophecies,

all four are found
in the Book of Daniel.

Then you have the
apocalyptic prophecies.

Apocalyptic you find

when Daniel is told
to seal a provision,

for it is yet for
the time of the end,

at the time of the
end, it will speak.

This apocalyptic
unfolding, showing a revelation,

apocalypse is a revelation.

He has always been the method

and means by which we are saved.

So once again,
local, Judaic, messianic,

and apocalyptic.

And then you find
the Structure of Daniel,

and it may seem to some degree,

that we are
repeating the same things.

But let's go to Isaiah 46.

I want you to see
why this is so important

because the repeat
and enlarger there,
00:19:36.54\00:19:38.84
but the
encouraging aspect of Daniel,

and any
prophetic book in the Bible

or anything in the Bible,
00:19:43.35\00:19:45.35
is that at no point
does God ever lose control
00:19:45.38\00:19:50.32
and say, "What do I do next?"
00:19:50.35\00:19:52.19
That's right. Amen.
00:19:52.22\00:19:53.56
Look at Isaiah 46:9-10.
00:19:53.59\00:19:55.82
And the Bible says, "Remember
00:19:55.86\00:19:57.76
the former things of old,
00:19:57.79\00:20:00.03
for I am God, and
there is no other.
00:20:00.06\00:20:03.16
I am God, and
there is none like Me,
00:20:03.20\00:20:06.60
declaring the end
from the beginning,
00:20:06.63\00:20:10.37
and from ancient
times," the times of Daniel,
00:20:10.41\00:20:13.21
the times of Isaiah, Jeremiah,
00:20:13.24\00:20:15.04
"things that are not yet done."

So and He says, "My
counsel shall stand,"

He's saying that,

"And I will do all My pleasure."

Meaning when God sets
the picture in motion,

it's like an artist.

I know a guy, I know
that painted a picture of me.

And I thought to myself,
"Well, how did he begin?"
00:20:29.99\00:20:32.59
And he says, "Well,
00:20:32.63\00:20:33.96
I look at the entire
structure of a person.
00:20:34.00\00:20:37.10
And then I take a
component by component."

He starts with circles,
00:20:39.33\00:20:40.67
and I have a
picture on one of my posts,
00:20:40.70\00:20:43.44
where he shows the circles
and everything is in circles,
00:20:43.47\00:20:46.17
and I can't see it,
00:20:46.21\00:20:47.58
but then he can because
he sees where it's headed.
00:20:47.61\00:20:50.58
And prophecies
are the very same way,
00:20:50.61\00:20:52.41
we don't often
see where it's headed,
00:20:52.45\00:20:53.82
but God does it as He's
giving it its unfolding.
00:20:53.85\00:20:57.25
And He says, "My counsel."
It's all, always His counsel.

And another
thing about prophecy is

we could see that Daniel
00:21:03.26\00:21:05.26
is concealing prophecies
that are later revealed.

When those
prophecies are revealed,

we can go back to Daniel
and see the confirmation.

And as was pointed
out, many people think that
00:21:14.34\00:21:15.80
Daniel wrote many
of these prophecies
00:21:15.84\00:21:18.37
later on after
they were fulfilled,
00:21:18.41\00:21:20.11
but that's
chronologically impossible
00:21:20.14\00:21:22.04
because Daniel would
have lived a long time.
00:21:22.08\00:21:25.81
And Daniel did not
live for 490 years,
00:21:25.85\00:21:29.58
just to make.
00:21:29.62\00:21:30.95
He didn't live for
2,300 years either.
00:21:30.99\00:21:34.12
So these
prophecies could not possibly
00:21:34.16\00:21:35.86
have been
written after his time.

So you find it Nebuchadnezzar's
vision of the four kingdoms.

The structure
covers four major kingdoms,
00:21:41.23\00:21:45.13
Daniel 2 and Daniel
7 are partners in that.

Nebuchadnezzar is
given a vision or a dream,
00:21:48.94\00:21:51.41
and Daniel is given a vision.
00:21:51.44\00:21:52.91
And they repeat and enlarge,
00:21:52.94\00:21:54.78
one is given the four
kingdom of the world in metals.
00:21:54.81\00:21:58.38
You'll find, this
very important gold...

We're gonna point this
out in specifics later on,

but Babylon gold,
Medo-Persia silver,

a Greece bronze, and
Rome iron, in iron and clay

and then the toes with
iron and clay mixed in.

Rome still
present in the latter part

of the unfolding of
that Bible prophecy.

But then you find
this golden kingdom

is now paralleled with a lion.

Do you find the silver kingdom
is parallel with the bear?

You find the bronze kingdom
is parallel with the leopard

with the four
heads and four wings.
00:22:26.37\00:22:27.94
And as I said, we will
cover that in specifics.

properly understanding

the nature
behind these prophecies

that we are studying.

to the fathers by the prophets."

So God uses a multitude of
various ways to communicate

His word in His prophecies.

And so what we find
in this particular lesson

is that in the scholarly
world, in the theologian world,

I guess you could say,

they have
categorized these prophecies

based on the content
into two different categories.

And so every
prophecy in the Bible usually

these two categories.

either the classical prophecies

because we're New
Testament Christians.

that it's the

There's a
continual perpetual flow

from the first testament
into the second testament,

the Old into the New.

And it's God's
continual word throughout.

And so Daniel is
found in what we would

call the Old Testament.

But when we do, when
we survey this correctly,

we find that these prophecies

fall into one of
these two categories,

either classical or apocalyptic.

And so Daniel, of
course, is the exception,

and dominion was given to it."

to interpret biblical prophecies

explain the word of truth.

when I laid the foundation
of this earth or the world?"

And any challenge in this point,

God provides a role model.

he's going to reveal.

God has raised what?

Men and women these last days
to fulfill to be role models

that we need to be
in the cause of Christ.

And certainly in
Daniel, they're role models,

place where society had views

Daniel's day, right?

Do we dare to be that today?

He's asked them to do.
