The Bible tells us, "In the beginning was the Word, 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.70 and the Word was with God, 00:00:03.73\00:00:05.67 and the Word was God." 00:00:05.70\00:00:08.10 It says, "To receive with meekness 00:00:08.14\00:00:10.34 the implanted Word, 00:00:10.37\00:00:11.91 which is able to save your souls. 00:00:11.94\00:00:14.14 And to be diligent to present yourself 00:00:14.18\00:00:16.58 approved to God, 00:00:16.61\00:00:18.08 rightly dividing the Word of truth." 00:00:18.11\00:00:21.02 Join us now 00:00:21.05\00:00:22.38 for the 3ABN Sabbath School Panel. 00:00:22.42\00:00:25.02 Our study today is the Book of Daniel. 00:00:25.05\00:00:28.12 Hello, and welcome to 3ABN Sabbath School Panel. 00:00:32.59\00:00:35.06 I'm Jill Morikone. 00:00:35.10\00:00:36.43 And we're so glad that 00:00:36.46\00:00:37.80 you have taken time from your day to join us 00:00:37.83\00:00:39.93 for our study of the Word of God. 00:00:39.97\00:00:41.77 We are on our first lesson 00:00:41.80\00:00:44.64 of the brand new quarter here of 2020. 00:00:44.67\00:00:48.08 This is studying the Book of Daniel. 00:00:48.11\00:00:50.21 And I think Daniel is one of my favorite 00:00:50.25\00:00:53.08 Old Testament heroes, men of God, 00:00:53.11\00:00:56.69 prophets in the Old Testament. 00:00:56.72\00:00:58.45 And I am excited 00:00:58.49\00:00:59.82 what God has for us in this study. 00:00:59.85\00:01:01.59 But first we're gonna introduce to you our panel. 00:01:01.62\00:01:04.16 We're gonna be studying together 00:01:04.19\00:01:05.53 for the next 13 weeks. 00:01:05.56\00:01:07.36 To my left Pastor John Lomacang, 00:01:07.40\00:01:09.10 my pastor, always a privilege to have you here. 00:01:09.13\00:01:11.40 Good to be here. 00:01:11.43\00:01:12.77 And as you said, 00:01:12.80\00:01:14.14 Daniel is gonna be an exciting journey. 00:01:14.17\00:01:15.90 It's like revisiting an old friend. 00:01:15.94\00:01:17.74 Absolutely. 00:01:17.77\00:01:19.11 To your left, Pastor Ryan Day, 00:01:19.14\00:01:20.74 and a privilege to study with you as well. 00:01:20.78\00:01:22.28 Amen. 00:01:22.31\00:01:23.65 It's good to be here as always. Adventist.org. 00:02:36.85\00:02:41.12 Or we always encourage you 00:02:41.16\00:02:43.02 to visit your local Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:02:43.06\00:02:46.39 Ask them for a quarterly 00:02:46.43\00:02:47.80 and you can join a local Bible study group. 00:02:47.83\00:02:50.83 So we're studying this quarter the Book of Daniel. 00:02:50.87\00:02:55.54 Lesson number one is From Reading to Understanding. 00:02:55.57\00:02:58.67 This particular quarterly 00:02:58.71\00:03:02.24 was written by Dr. Elias Brasil de Souza. 00:03:02.28\00:03:06.01 He is the Director 00:03:06.05\00:03:07.38 of the Biblical Research Institute 00:03:07.42\00:03:09.82 at the General Conference 00:03:09.85\00:03:11.19 there for the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:03:11.22\00:03:13.12 And he's done an incredible job this quarter. 00:03:13.15\00:03:15.79 When you look at the Old Testament, 00:03:15.82\00:03:18.03 the prophets were kind of divided into two groups, right? 00:03:18.06\00:03:20.70 We have the Major Prophets and the Minor Prophets. 00:03:20.73\00:03:23.93 Major Prophets being Isaiah, Jeremiah, 00:03:23.97\00:03:26.43 Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel. 00:03:26.47\00:03:29.94 And then, of course, the 12 Minor Prophets. 00:03:29.97\00:03:33.58 The Major Prophets are much longer books, 00:03:33.61\00:03:36.14 most of them are much longer books, 00:03:36.18\00:03:38.21 and they cover a broader scope as it were. 00:03:38.25\00:03:41.08 A broader focus than some of those Minor Prophets. 00:03:41.12\00:03:44.55 Now, of course, the Book of Daniel 00:03:44.59\00:03:46.76 is one of my favorite heroes in the Word of God. 00:03:46.79\00:03:50.16 He was a man of integrity, 00:03:50.19\00:03:51.73 even his enemies could find no fault with him. 00:03:51.76\00:03:56.56 He was a prophet. 00:03:56.60\00:03:57.93 He was a governmental servant. 00:03:57.97\00:04:00.07 He was a faithful historian of God's dealings with him. 00:04:00.10\00:04:04.27 I think Daniel contains some of the most comprehensive 00:04:04.31\00:04:07.28 and sweeping revelations recorded by any prophet 00:04:07.31\00:04:11.15 in the Old Testament. 00:04:11.18\00:04:12.61 And they say with the exception of Moses, 00:04:12.65\00:04:14.92 and maybe Solomon, 00:04:14.95\00:04:16.28 that Daniel was one of the most educated men 00:04:16.32\00:04:20.16 who wrote in the Old Testament. 00:04:20.19\00:04:22.72 Now the Book of Daniel, 00:04:22.76\00:04:24.09 we believe was written by the Prophet Daniel. 00:04:24.13\00:04:27.50 We know there are some controversy 00:04:27.53\00:04:28.86 and some different streams of thought out there about that. 00:04:28.90\00:04:31.80 But we believe that he wrote of events taking place 00:04:31.83\00:04:34.70 during his lifetime 00:04:34.74\00:04:36.07 and looking down all the way the stream of time 00:04:36.10\00:04:38.97 to the Second Coming of Christ 00:04:39.01\00:04:40.91 when He would set up His eternal kingdom. 00:04:40.94\00:04:44.11 We know Daniel was taken captive in 605 BC 00:04:44.15\00:04:47.42 by the Babylonians 00:04:47.45\00:04:48.78 and as a young man brought into Babylon to serve. 00:04:48.82\00:04:53.49 If you think about themes from the Book of Daniel, 00:04:53.52\00:04:57.13 there's many themes but I'm just gonna highlight 00:04:57.16\00:04:59.36 three before we jump into Sunday's lesson. 00:04:59.39\00:05:01.50 The first theme of the Book of Daniel, 00:05:01.53\00:05:03.03 from my perspective, is that God is sovereign. 00:05:03.06\00:05:06.40 And He rules over the affairs of men. 00:05:06.43\00:05:10.41 He's still sovereign, 00:05:10.44\00:05:11.77 even when it seems like His people are being oppressed, 00:05:11.81\00:05:14.98 taken into captivity, thrown in the lions' den, 00:05:15.01\00:05:17.98 God is still sovereign. 00:05:18.01\00:05:19.81 And He delivers those who are loyal to Him. 00:05:19.85\00:05:23.45 You know the name Daniel means God is my judge. 00:05:23.49\00:05:26.89 God is still sovereign over the affairs of men. 00:05:26.92\00:05:29.52 The second theme I see is that God sees the future. 00:05:29.56\00:05:33.19 There's a great deal of prophecy in the Book of Daniel, 00:05:33.23\00:05:37.80 apocalyptic prophecies, 00:05:37.83\00:05:39.27 revelatory prophecies future 00:05:39.30\00:05:43.51 for telling the Messiah and His ministry and death, 00:05:43.54\00:05:45.94 for telling the work of the heavenly sanctuary. 00:05:45.97\00:05:48.81 The prophetic outline of Daniel spans centuries. 00:05:48.84\00:05:51.95 And we also see, 00:05:51.98\00:05:53.31 the third theme is that God reveals His love. 00:05:53.35\00:05:56.62 It's not just that God is sovereign over everything, 00:05:56.65\00:05:59.39 but God is intimately concerned with the details 00:05:59.42\00:06:02.96 that concern you and I. 00:06:02.99\00:06:05.79 We know Daniel and Revelation 00:06:05.83\00:06:08.03 are almost sister books you could say, 00:06:08.06\00:06:10.43 they correlate with each other a great deal. 00:06:10.47\00:06:13.64 In fact, in the Book of Daniel, 00:06:13.67\00:06:15.54 I would say the Seventh-day Adventist Church was founded 00:06:15.57\00:06:18.54 from the pages of the Book of Daniel, 00:06:18.57\00:06:20.94 especially Daniel 8:14. 00:06:20.98\00:06:23.85 "Unto two thousand and three hundred days, 00:06:23.88\00:06:25.78 then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." 00:06:25.81\00:06:28.15 If you look at Daniel and Revelation, 00:06:28.18\00:06:30.09 you see prophecies, you see symbols and meaning, 00:06:30.12\00:06:33.15 you see that repeat and enlarge principle 00:06:33.19\00:06:35.82 that we're going to see 00:06:35.86\00:06:37.66 where every future prophecy kind of repeats 00:06:37.69\00:06:40.90 and enlarges the previous one. 00:06:40.93\00:06:43.47 We see discussion of Babylon present day 00:06:43.50\00:06:46.00 and end-time Babylon, 00:06:46.03\00:06:47.64 discussion of the little horn and the Antichrist 00:06:47.67\00:06:50.84 but beyond all of that, 00:06:50.87\00:06:53.17 we see the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:06:53.21\00:06:55.08 Amen. That's right. 00:06:55.11\00:06:56.44 You know, John 5:39, 00:06:56.48\00:06:58.61 Jesus says, "Search the scriptures, 00:06:58.65\00:07:00.25 for in them you think you have eternal life, 00:07:00.28\00:07:03.22 and they are they which testify of Me." 00:07:03.25\00:07:06.79 Now we know then that everything 00:07:06.82\00:07:09.16 in the Word of God testifies of the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:07:09.19\00:07:12.39 We often think, well, 00:07:12.43\00:07:13.76 the gospels surely testify of Jesus, right? 00:07:13.80\00:07:17.03 Maybe Paul's writings, maybe Isaiah, 00:07:17.07\00:07:19.33 there's a lot of messianic prophecies 00:07:19.37\00:07:21.24 but what about Daniel? 00:07:21.27\00:07:23.00 Can we see Jesus in every chapter 00:07:23.04\00:07:26.34 of the Book of Daniel? 00:07:26.37\00:07:27.98 We're gonna do that quickly just now. 00:07:28.01\00:07:30.81 Daniel Chapter 1, of course, 00:07:30.85\00:07:32.18 is the captivity of Daniel and his three friends, 00:07:32.21\00:07:34.75 and then the big test pertaining to food, 00:07:34.78\00:07:38.72 and whether they're going to worship the king's food, 00:07:38.75\00:07:42.32 and the food that had been offered to idols. 00:07:42.36\00:07:45.66 I see a comparison, first of all, 00:07:45.69\00:07:47.20 in Daniel 1 between Daniel and Christ. 00:07:47.23\00:07:49.80 We see Daniel taken from his homeland, 00:07:49.83\00:07:52.43 leaving Judah and Jerusalem a long harsh journey 00:07:52.47\00:07:55.77 taken to be a slave in a foreign land. 00:07:55.80\00:07:58.17 I see Christ leaving heaven, leaving holiness, 00:07:58.21\00:08:03.68 and adoration of angels 00:08:03.71\00:08:05.45 coming to live in a sinful world 00:08:05.48\00:08:07.45 to confront the powers of evil. 00:08:07.48\00:08:10.15 We see Christ enabling Daniel 00:08:10.19\00:08:13.25 and his friends to stand for principle. 00:08:13.29\00:08:16.96 They didn't stand, you know, Daniel 1:8, 00:08:16.99\00:08:18.99 Daniel purposed in his heart, right? 00:08:19.03\00:08:21.30 That he would not defile himself 00:08:21.33\00:08:22.83 for the portion of the king's meat. 00:08:22.86\00:08:24.73 He didn't stand on his own strength. 00:08:24.77\00:08:27.17 We know all our righteousness is filthy rags, 00:08:27.20\00:08:29.64 but we can do all things through Christ 00:08:29.67\00:08:32.21 who strengthens us, Philippians 4:13. 00:08:32.24\00:08:35.38 So he stood in the strength of Christ. 00:08:35.41\00:08:39.01 Daniel Chapter 2, 00:08:39.05\00:08:40.38 we see Nebuchadnezzar had this dream of this image. 00:08:40.42\00:08:43.99 Daniel 2 begins with Daniel's time 00:08:44.02\00:08:46.52 the Head of Gold Babylon, 00:08:46.55\00:08:48.06 and it carries all the way down to when Christ will come 00:08:48.09\00:08:51.49 and set up a kingdom that will never end. 00:08:51.53\00:08:54.33 Daniel 2 tells us that Christ reveals the future 00:08:54.36\00:08:57.50 that Christ answers prayer. 00:08:57.53\00:08:59.97 That Christ will judge the nations of the world. 00:09:00.00\00:09:03.00 That Christ is going to set up an eternal kingdom. 00:09:03.04\00:09:06.88 Daniel 3 is Daniel's friends thrown into the fiery furnace, 00:09:06.91\00:09:11.71 but they were not alone 00:09:11.75\00:09:13.42 because Christ showed up in the furnace with them. 00:09:13.45\00:09:17.49 We learned that Christ overturns events for His glory. 00:09:17.52\00:09:20.82 Christ cares for His people. 00:09:20.86\00:09:23.26 He delivers His people. 00:09:23.29\00:09:24.63 He vindicates His people. 00:09:24.66\00:09:26.33 He vindicates His name 00:09:26.36\00:09:28.03 and reveals who is God 00:09:28.06\00:09:30.13 and He strengthens His servants to endure trial. 00:09:30.17\00:09:33.74 He doesn't always deliver us from the fire, 00:09:33.77\00:09:36.47 but He always delivers us through the fire. 00:09:36.50\00:09:39.97 Daniel 4, 00:09:40.01\00:09:41.34 this is Nebuchadnezzar is humbling 00:09:41.38\00:09:43.35 and how he became like an animal 00:09:43.38\00:09:46.18 for those seven years. 00:09:46.21\00:09:48.22 We see that Christ is still sovereign 00:09:48.25\00:09:50.25 over the affairs of men, 00:09:50.29\00:09:51.89 that Christ removed Nebuchadnezzar from office 00:09:51.92\00:09:55.19 so the king could understand that heaven rules. 00:09:55.22\00:09:58.96 We see that Christ calls upon us to repent. 00:09:58.99\00:10:02.10 Remember, Daniel made that impassioned appeal to the king. 00:10:02.13\00:10:05.63 "Please, O King, break off your sins." 00:10:05.67\00:10:08.90 And then the king refused. 00:10:08.94\00:10:10.67 We see that Christ executes judgment. 00:10:10.71\00:10:14.64 We learned that we can trust Him 00:10:14.68\00:10:16.01 with our lives, and with our government, 00:10:16.04\00:10:17.65 and with our church, and our families, 00:10:17.68\00:10:19.38 and our work. 00:10:19.41\00:10:20.98 We learned that Christ judges redemptively, 00:10:21.02\00:10:23.49 never vindictive, always redemptively. 00:10:23.52\00:10:27.29 Daniel 5 is the overthrow of the Babylonian Empire 00:10:27.32\00:10:30.89 when the Medes and Persians captured Babylon that night 00:10:30.93\00:10:34.06 that Belshazzar the king was killed. 00:10:34.10\00:10:36.80 We see the fall of literal Babylon 00:10:36.83\00:10:38.63 and the fall of end-time Babylon. 00:10:38.67\00:10:41.87 Literal Babylon fell to the Persians 00:10:41.90\00:10:43.71 in one night of revelry 00:10:43.74\00:10:45.27 and debauchery, 00:10:45.31\00:10:46.64 End-time Babylon will fall to Christ 00:10:46.68\00:10:48.88 and His angels 00:10:48.91\00:10:50.48 because the end-time Babylon worships Satan and the beast 00:10:50.51\00:10:54.88 and his image. 00:10:54.92\00:10:56.72 Daniel 6, we see Daniel in the lions' den. 00:10:56.75\00:11:00.32 And we see the false accusations made against Daniel 00:11:00.36\00:11:02.89 by the scheming governors and satraps. 00:11:02.92\00:11:05.99 We see that there's false accusations 00:11:06.03\00:11:07.86 made against Christ by scheming priests and scribes. 00:11:07.90\00:11:11.60 We see King Darius trying to save Daniel 00:11:11.63\00:11:14.14 but being unsuccessful. 00:11:14.17\00:11:16.10 We see Pilate making some attempt to save Christ 00:11:16.14\00:11:19.41 but being an unsuccessful. 00:11:19.44\00:11:21.58 And we learned in Daniel 6 that our lives 00:11:21.61\00:11:24.08 are in the hand of Christ, not men. 00:11:24.11\00:11:26.98 That Christ would deliver us that He vindicates His name, 00:11:27.02\00:11:30.45 that He destroys His enemies, 00:11:30.49\00:11:33.86 and that prayer changes things. 00:11:33.89\00:11:36.59 Daniel 7, Daniel has a vision of the beasts 00:11:36.62\00:11:39.19 and the kingdoms that will be to come. 00:11:39.23\00:11:41.80 This is an expansion of Daniel Chapter 2 with the image. 00:11:41.83\00:11:45.70 We learned in Daniel 7 that God will judge His people. 00:11:45.73\00:11:49.00 There's the whole judgment scene. 00:11:49.04\00:11:51.64 And we also learned that judgment 00:11:51.67\00:11:53.68 is in favor of the saints. 00:11:53.71\00:11:55.34 That's my favorite part about Daniel Chapter 7. 00:11:55.38\00:11:58.75 That judgment is made in favor of the saints of the Most High. 00:11:58.78\00:12:02.62 Daniel Chapter 8, we see another expanding, 00:12:02.65\00:12:05.89 another vision of Daniel Chapter 7. 00:12:05.92\00:12:08.39 This one begins with a Medo-Persian 00:12:08.42\00:12:10.13 Empire instead of with Babylon. 00:12:10.16\00:12:12.36 It contains these prophecies again, 00:12:12.39\00:12:13.86 but Daniel 8 the focus now is Christ 00:12:13.90\00:12:16.36 in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:12:16.40\00:12:19.20 It corresponds to the judgment scene 00:12:19.23\00:12:20.94 in Daniel Chapter 7. 00:12:20.97\00:12:22.30 But we see that God is the judge of the wicked 00:12:22.34\00:12:25.17 and His people. 00:12:25.21\00:12:27.08 Daniel 9 is Daniel's prayer of confession and intercession, 00:12:27.11\00:12:32.48 and really answers to his questions 00:12:32.51\00:12:34.58 about the vision in Daniel Chapter 8. 00:12:34.62\00:12:37.12 In Daniel 9, we see Christ as the sacrificial Lamb, 00:12:37.15\00:12:39.82 the Messiah. 00:12:39.85\00:12:41.19 He's the sacrificial Lamb 00:12:41.22\00:12:42.56 whose death reconfirms the covenant. 00:12:42.59\00:12:45.93 We see that Christ hears our prayers 00:12:45.96\00:12:47.66 and brings answers and deliverance. 00:12:47.70\00:12:50.33 Daniel 10-12, we'll lump them together 00:12:50.37\00:12:52.93 is really the final vision that Daniel has here 00:12:52.97\00:12:55.74 in the Book of Daniel. 00:12:55.77\00:12:57.24 And those chapters we learned that Christ 00:12:57.27\00:12:59.01 is our Commander in Chief, 00:12:59.04\00:13:00.64 He is Michael of the archangel. 00:13:00.68\00:13:03.24 He fights against the forces of evil 00:13:03.28\00:13:05.41 and comes off conqueror, rescuing God's people 00:13:05.45\00:13:09.28 and bringing them home with Him. 00:13:09.32\00:13:11.39 So really in the Book of Daniel, 00:13:11.42\00:13:13.46 I learned that Christ fights for His people. 00:13:13.49\00:13:16.19 Aren't you grateful for that? 00:13:16.22\00:13:18.26 I learned that Christ is always victorious against Satan 00:13:18.29\00:13:22.80 and his cohorts. 00:13:22.83\00:13:24.40 I learned that Christ will come again. 00:13:24.43\00:13:28.10 And He delivers us as His people. 00:13:28.14\00:13:29.80 Pastor John, you have Structure of Revelation. 00:13:29.84\00:13:32.31 Wow, I tell you. 00:13:32.34\00:13:33.94 Can we all take a breath on that one? 00:13:33.98\00:13:35.54 Yeah. It was cool. 00:13:35.58\00:13:36.91 How did you cover so much in such a short period of time? 00:13:36.95\00:13:38.85 Amen. 00:13:38.88\00:13:40.22 Always is like, 00:13:40.25\00:13:41.58 I think Ryan just said it's like drinking from a... 00:13:41.62\00:13:43.08 What? From a fire hydrant. 00:13:43.12\00:13:44.45 Fire hydrant. Thank you. 00:13:44.49\00:13:46.32 You know, Daniel is an amazing book. 00:13:46.35\00:13:49.19 But we can't get into any Book of Prophecy 00:13:49.22\00:13:51.39 without understanding the structure. 00:13:51.43\00:13:53.80 But when we understand the structure, 00:13:53.83\00:13:55.16 it's like building a house 00:13:55.20\00:13:56.53 we never get ahead of ourselves. 00:13:56.56\00:13:58.63 You can't put a roof on without foundation. 00:13:58.67\00:14:01.17 And it doesn't make sense to concentrate 00:14:01.20\00:14:02.87 on the color of the paint before the walls go up. 00:14:02.90\00:14:05.61 Daniel is that way, it has a structure. 00:14:05.64\00:14:08.61 In some cases, it's referred to as a chiastic structure, 00:14:08.64\00:14:11.81 a high point in the book, 00:14:11.85\00:14:13.55 it builds up to a particular point 00:14:13.58\00:14:14.95 then comes down on the other side. 00:14:14.98\00:14:17.75 We know that Daniel is not a book with Greek, 00:14:17.79\00:14:19.65 but it has Aramaic and Hebrew. 00:14:19.69\00:14:21.22 Yes. 00:14:21.26\00:14:22.59 And when you understand where that comes in Hebrew, 00:14:22.62\00:14:25.59 most of the book is Hebrews, 00:14:25.63\00:14:26.96 but Daniel 2-7 is written in Aramaic. 00:14:27.00\00:14:31.03 So we can understand how it fits 00:14:31.07\00:14:33.00 into the picture of those nations 00:14:33.03\00:14:35.64 that often refers to why that language 00:14:35.67\00:14:38.97 because it's often preferring to the nations 00:14:39.01\00:14:41.14 that are best suited in that particular picture. 00:14:41.18\00:14:44.81 Then there are different types of prophecies 00:14:44.85\00:14:46.41 and this is something important because many people say 00:14:46.45\00:14:49.65 and this is one of the things we have to guard against. 00:14:49.68\00:14:52.59 There is no prophecy with a dual fulfillment. 00:14:52.62\00:14:57.09 I wanna say that, dual application, 00:14:57.13\00:15:01.26 but no dual fulfillment. 00:15:01.30\00:15:03.10 Now you might say, 00:15:03.13\00:15:04.63 "Well, I could see Daniel 7 00:15:04.67\00:15:07.40 in its actual unfolding characteristic." 00:15:07.44\00:15:11.37 But I could also see it in another aspect. 00:15:11.41\00:15:13.01 Let me give you an example, I'll use Revelation here. 00:15:13.04\00:15:15.38 We have seven churches in Revelation 00:15:15.41\00:15:17.18 that cover seven different time periods. 00:15:17.21\00:15:19.25 But then in the last days, 00:15:19.28\00:15:20.62 we could see all seven of those conditions existing 00:15:20.65\00:15:23.35 in different churches, in different countries, 00:15:23.39\00:15:25.22 in different settings from the one that's, you know, 00:15:25.25\00:15:28.49 completely allegiant to the Lord, 00:15:28.52\00:15:30.69 to the one that is filled with brotherly love all the way 00:15:30.73\00:15:32.76 down to the one that is just lukewarm. 00:15:32.79\00:15:35.20 So the four types of prophecies that are majorly focused 00:15:35.23\00:15:37.87 in the Book of Daniel. 00:15:37.90\00:15:39.23 First is local prophecies, what kind of I say? 00:15:39.27\00:15:42.37 Local. 00:15:42.40\00:15:43.74 The local prophecies, 00:15:43.77\00:15:45.11 particularly the local prophecies 00:15:45.14\00:15:46.78 will be those that pertained in specifics to Nebuchadnezzar. 00:15:46.81\00:15:51.41 They don't pertain to Belshazzar. 00:15:51.45\00:15:54.02 They don't pertain to any other king outside of that. 00:15:54.05\00:15:56.82 And when that prophecy is fulfilled, it's fulfilled. 00:15:56.85\00:15:59.95 The humbling of Nebuchadnezzar is a perfect example of that. 00:15:59.99\00:16:02.72 Nebuchadnezzar comes on the scene from Chapter 1 00:16:02.76\00:16:05.13 and in Chapter 4 he passes off the scene, 00:16:05.16\00:16:07.56 but his kingdom is mentioned again, 00:16:07.60\00:16:09.60 in obviously in Daniel 2, 00:16:09.63\00:16:11.97 all four of the kingdoms were mentioned. 00:16:12.00\00:16:13.80 And then when Daniel has a dream later on, 00:16:13.84\00:16:16.57 then he's mentioned again 00:16:16.60\00:16:17.94 in the four beasts of Daniel Chapter 7. 00:16:17.97\00:16:20.78 But Nebuchadnezzar as he reigns 00:16:20.81\00:16:23.31 and his reign comes to an end those prophecies 00:16:23.35\00:16:25.41 that what we consider local prophecies. 00:16:25.45\00:16:28.52 You find also in the prophecy of the city of Nineveh. 00:16:28.55\00:16:33.15 Well Nineveh, just the four books of Jonah... 00:16:33.19\00:16:36.83 Four chapters of Jonah. 00:16:36.86\00:16:38.19 The four chapters of Jonah, thank you, 00:16:38.23\00:16:39.76 those prophecies happened. 00:16:39.79\00:16:41.60 But then you could find application to that and saying, 00:16:41.63\00:16:43.83 "Well, if there's a city that's filled with iniquity, 00:16:43.87\00:16:47.60 then God will send a prophet to preach to that city 00:16:47.64\00:16:49.74 and if they repent, praise the Lord." 00:16:49.77\00:16:52.24 But that's not a dual fulfillment. 00:16:52.27\00:16:55.11 You also find Judaic prophecy. 00:16:55.14\00:16:57.71 Obviously, the book begins with the Judaic prophecy 00:16:57.75\00:17:01.02 because Judah is taken into captivity, 00:17:01.05\00:17:04.32 from Jerusalem into Babylon. 00:17:04.35\00:17:06.89 But while Daniel is there, 00:17:06.92\00:17:08.79 you'll find throughout the Book of Daniel, 00:17:08.82\00:17:11.53 many of the things that are talked about 00:17:11.56\00:17:12.93 while Daniel is still alive, 00:17:12.96\00:17:14.86 pertains to Judah. 00:17:14.90\00:17:16.40 When he asked the question, 00:17:16.43\00:17:18.43 how long is it gonna be before we return? 00:17:18.47\00:17:21.14 How long is it gonna be before we get back to our city? 00:17:21.17\00:17:24.04 And then the Lord gives him the 70 week prophecy. 00:17:24.07\00:17:27.54 Seventy weeks are determined for you 00:17:27.58\00:17:29.58 and for your people and for your city. 00:17:29.61\00:17:32.41 That's the Judaic prophecy. 00:17:32.45\00:17:34.18 And as Jill pointed out, they're messianic prophecies, 00:17:34.22\00:17:37.02 which means, obviously, the word Messianic is Christ. 00:17:37.05\00:17:40.72 Once again, he appears in the Book of Daniel, 00:17:40.76\00:17:42.62 in each of the chapters 00:17:42.66\00:17:43.99 you can find a component of Christ 00:17:44.03\00:17:45.79 in every story in the Book of Daniel, 00:17:45.83\00:17:48.63 from Christ in the very first chapter, 00:17:48.66\00:17:51.23 where He is there with His people, 00:17:51.27\00:17:53.74 He may have allowed them. 00:17:53.77\00:17:55.20 Let me rephrase that. 00:17:55.24\00:17:56.57 He allowed them to be corrected in Babylon. 00:17:56.60\00:17:59.91 When Babylon was done with its correction, 00:17:59.94\00:18:02.41 God stood up and corrected Babylon. 00:18:02.44\00:18:05.11 So He never really forsook His people. 00:18:05.15\00:18:07.08 He used them as a correcting stick, 00:18:07.12\00:18:09.08 but He did not choose them above His people. 00:18:09.12\00:18:11.95 Then you find in the very end of the chapter, 00:18:11.99\00:18:13.56 Christ stands up again, when Michael stands up. 00:18:13.59\00:18:16.22 So he's all through the book, as Jill made very clear. 00:18:16.26\00:18:20.13 So the Judaic prophecies 00:18:20.16\00:18:22.10 that particularly refer to Judah, 00:18:22.13\00:18:24.53 Israel, those prophecies, 00:18:24.57\00:18:27.04 the Lord, many of the books of the Old Testament have them. 00:18:27.07\00:18:29.90 In Daniel, as I point out these four types of prophecies, 00:18:29.94\00:18:32.97 all four are found in the Book of Daniel. 00:18:33.01\00:18:35.54 Then you have the apocalyptic prophecies. 00:18:35.58\00:18:38.71 Apocalyptic you find 00:18:38.75\00:18:40.08 when Daniel is told to seal a provision, 00:18:40.12\00:18:43.18 for it is yet for the time of the end, 00:18:43.22\00:18:45.05 at the time of the end, it will speak. 00:18:45.09\00:18:46.89 This apocalyptic unfolding, showing a revelation, 00:18:46.92\00:18:50.59 another word for apocalypse is a revelation. 00:18:50.63\00:18:53.19 And so as Jill pointed out, 00:18:53.23\00:18:54.76 you did an excellent job by the way. 00:18:54.80\00:18:56.20 Praise the Lord. 00:18:56.23\00:18:57.57 As Jill pointed out, there's a particular point 00:18:57.60\00:18:59.07 where we can find 00:18:59.10\00:19:00.44 the growing of the Advent movement, 00:19:00.47\00:19:04.41 but the messages of the Advent movement 00:19:04.44\00:19:07.51 didn't just come into being through the Advent Church. 00:19:07.54\00:19:11.21 They are a part of the everlasting gospel, 00:19:11.25\00:19:14.08 which is in fact, focusing on Christ, 00:19:14.12\00:19:16.48 He has always been the method 00:19:16.52\00:19:18.22 and means by which we are saved. 00:19:18.25\00:19:20.26 So once again, local, Judaic, messianic, 00:19:20.29\00:19:23.76 and apocalyptic. 00:19:23.79\00:19:26.63 And then you find the Structure of Daniel, 00:19:26.66\00:19:28.46 and it may seem to some degree, 00:19:28.50\00:19:30.37 that we are repeating the same things. 00:19:30.40\00:19:32.13 But let's go to Isaiah 46. 00:19:32.17\00:19:34.30 I want you to see why this is so important 00:19:34.34\00:19:36.50 because the repeat and enlarger there, 00:19:36.54\00:19:38.84 but the encouraging aspect of Daniel, 00:19:38.87\00:19:41.34 and any prophetic book in the Bible 00:19:41.38\00:19:43.31 or anything in the Bible, 00:19:43.35\00:19:45.35 is that at no point does God ever lose control 00:19:45.38\00:19:50.32 and say, "What do I do next?" 00:19:50.35\00:19:52.19 That's right. Amen. 00:19:52.22\00:19:53.56 Look at Isaiah 46:9-10. 00:19:53.59\00:19:55.82 And the Bible says, "Remember 00:19:55.86\00:19:57.76 the former things of old, 00:19:57.79\00:20:00.03 for I am God, and there is no other. 00:20:00.06\00:20:03.16 I am God, and there is none like Me, 00:20:03.20\00:20:06.60 declaring the end from the beginning, 00:20:06.63\00:20:10.37 and from ancient times," the times of Daniel, 00:20:10.41\00:20:13.21 the times of Isaiah, Jeremiah, 00:20:13.24\00:20:15.04 "things that are not yet done." 00:20:15.08\00:20:17.35 So and He says, "My counsel shall stand," 00:20:17.38\00:20:19.81 He's saying that, 00:20:19.85\00:20:21.28 "And I will do all My pleasure." 00:20:21.32\00:20:23.02 Meaning when God sets the picture in motion, 00:20:23.05\00:20:25.82 it's like an artist. 00:20:25.85\00:20:27.19 I know a guy, I know that painted a picture of me. 00:20:27.22\00:20:29.96 And I thought to myself, "Well, how did he begin?" 00:20:29.99\00:20:32.59 And he says, "Well, 00:20:32.63\00:20:33.96 I look at the entire structure of a person. 00:20:34.00\00:20:37.10 And then I take a component by component." 00:20:37.13\00:20:39.30 He starts with circles, 00:20:39.33\00:20:40.67 and I have a picture on one of my posts, 00:20:40.70\00:20:43.44 where he shows the circles and everything is in circles, 00:20:43.47\00:20:46.17 and I can't see it, 00:20:46.21\00:20:47.58 but then he can because he sees where it's headed. 00:20:47.61\00:20:50.58 And prophecies are the very same way, 00:20:50.61\00:20:52.41 we don't often see where it's headed, 00:20:52.45\00:20:53.82 but God does it as He's giving it its unfolding. 00:20:53.85\00:20:57.25 And He says, "My counsel." It's all, always His counsel. 00:20:57.29\00:21:01.06 And another thing about prophecy is 00:21:01.09\00:21:03.22 we could see that Daniel 00:21:03.26\00:21:05.26 is concealing prophecies that are later revealed. 00:21:05.29\00:21:08.93 When those prophecies are revealed, 00:21:09.56\00:21:11.40 we can go back to Daniel and see the confirmation. 00:21:11.43\00:21:14.30 And as was pointed out, many people think that 00:21:14.34\00:21:15.80 Daniel wrote many of these prophecies 00:21:15.84\00:21:18.37 later on after they were fulfilled, 00:21:18.41\00:21:20.11 but that's chronologically impossible 00:21:20.14\00:21:22.04 because Daniel would have lived a long time. 00:21:22.08\00:21:25.81 And Daniel did not live for 490 years, 00:21:25.85\00:21:29.58 just to make. 00:21:29.62\00:21:30.95 He didn't live for 2,300 years either. 00:21:30.99\00:21:34.12 So these prophecies could not possibly 00:21:34.16\00:21:35.86 have been written after his time. 00:21:35.89\00:21:38.03 So you find it Nebuchadnezzar's vision of the four kingdoms. 00:21:38.06\00:21:41.20 The structure covers four major kingdoms, 00:21:41.23\00:21:45.13 Daniel 2 and Daniel 7 are partners in that. 00:21:45.17\00:21:48.90 Nebuchadnezzar is given a vision or a dream, 00:21:48.94\00:21:51.41 and Daniel is given a vision. 00:21:51.44\00:21:52.91 And they repeat and enlarge, 00:21:52.94\00:21:54.78 one is given the four kingdom of the world in metals. 00:21:54.81\00:21:58.38 You'll find, this very important gold... 00:21:58.41\00:22:01.22 We're gonna point this out in specifics later on, 00:22:01.25\00:22:03.39 but Babylon gold, Medo-Persia silver, 00:22:03.42\00:22:06.65 a Greece bronze, and Rome iron, in iron and clay 00:22:06.69\00:22:09.39 and then the toes with iron and clay mixed in. 00:22:09.42\00:22:12.06 Rome still present in the latter part 00:22:12.09\00:22:13.86 of the unfolding of that Bible prophecy. 00:22:13.90\00:22:15.86 But then you find this golden kingdom 00:22:15.90\00:22:17.63 is now paralleled with a lion. 00:22:17.67\00:22:20.60 Do you find the silver kingdom is parallel with the bear? 00:22:20.64\00:22:23.94 You find the bronze kingdom is parallel with the leopard 00:22:23.97\00:22:26.34 with the four heads and four wings. 00:22:26.37\00:22:27.94 And as I said, we will cover that in specifics. 00:22:27.98\00:22:30.75 And this is an exciting study. 00:22:30.78\00:22:32.11 I'm looking forward to it. 00:22:32.15\00:22:33.48 And then you find the iron kingdom, paralleled, 00:22:33.52\00:22:36.28 coupled with the beast with iron teeth. 00:22:36.32\00:22:39.25 And so Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar 00:22:39.29\00:22:42.12 are under the guidance or the counsel of the same God. 00:22:42.16\00:22:46.53 My counsel was revealed to Nebuchadnezzar, 00:22:46.56\00:22:49.43 my counsel was again revealed to Daniel, 00:22:49.46\00:22:51.83 my counsel will stand. 00:22:51.87\00:22:54.20 Can you find God delivers His companions 00:22:54.24\00:22:57.31 from the fiery furnace which was pointed out? 00:22:57.34\00:22:59.87 You find the judgment upon Nebuchadnezzar 00:22:59.91\00:23:02.08 in the structure of Daniel 4. 00:23:02.11\00:23:03.78 You find a judgment upon Belshazzar 00:23:03.81\00:23:05.75 in Daniel Chapter 5. 00:23:05.78\00:23:07.55 You find that God delivers from the den of lions, 00:23:07.58\00:23:10.79 Daniel Chapter 6. 00:23:10.82\00:23:12.15 Then once again reiterating 00:23:12.19\00:23:13.52 Daniel's vision of the four kingdoms 00:23:13.56\00:23:15.29 in Daniel Chapter 7. 00:23:15.32\00:23:17.16 You find that God removes 00:23:17.19\00:23:18.53 the kingdom from Nebuchadnezzar, temporarily, 00:23:18.56\00:23:21.86 but God removes the kingdom from Belshazzar permanently. 00:23:21.90\00:23:26.07 You also find that the Book of Daniel is a repetitive book, 00:23:26.10\00:23:29.64 but it also enlarges, 00:23:29.67\00:23:31.04 and the structure of Daniel 00:23:31.07\00:23:32.67 is a confirmation of the sovereignty of God. 00:23:32.71\00:23:35.94 So hold on, we're about to dive into a book that you may know. 00:23:35.98\00:23:39.11 But there's always something new that we can learn. 00:23:39.15\00:23:40.88 That's right. Amen. 00:23:40.92\00:23:42.25 Thank you so much, Pastor John. 00:23:42.28\00:23:43.75 I'm excited about this study and what God has for us. 00:23:43.79\00:23:47.39 We're gonna take a short break, we'll be right back. 00:23:47.42\00:23:50.49 Ever wish you could watch a 3ABN 00:23:55.13\00:23:56.93 Sabbath School Panel again, 00:23:56.97\00:23:58.67 or share it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter? 00:23:58.70\00:24:01.70 Well, you can by visiting 3abnsabbathschoolpanel.com. 00:24:01.74\00:24:06.84 A clean design makes it easy to find the program 00:24:06.88\00:24:10.21 you're looking for. 00:24:10.25\00:24:11.58 There are also links to the Adult Bible Study Guide 00:24:11.61\00:24:14.72 so you can follow along. 00:24:14.75\00:24:16.58 Sharing is easy. 00:24:16.62\00:24:17.95 Just click share and choose your favorite social media. 00:24:17.99\00:24:21.19 Share a link, save a life for eternity. 00:24:21.22\00:24:27.16 Welcome back to our study of the Book of Daniel. 00:24:27.20\00:24:29.03 We'll continue with Tuesday's lesson. 00:24:29.06\00:24:30.77 Pastor Ryan Day has Tuesday. Amen. 00:24:30.80\00:24:32.83 Praise the Lord. 00:24:32.87\00:24:34.20 I'm excited about this lesson, 00:24:34.24\00:24:35.57 Tuesday's lesson which is entitled 00:24:35.60\00:24:36.94 Apocalyptic Prophecies in Daniel. 00:24:36.97\00:24:39.34 As I was reading through and studying this lesson, 00:24:39.37\00:24:41.11 I could somewhat relate 00:24:41.14\00:24:42.48 to the importance of this lesson 00:24:42.51\00:24:44.58 because of a little bit of my background. 00:24:44.61\00:24:45.98 I haven't always been a Seventh-day 00:24:46.01\00:24:47.35 Adventist Christian. 00:24:47.38\00:24:48.98 And studying the content of this particular lesson 00:24:49.02\00:24:52.22 really helped me see and it further emphasized 00:24:52.25\00:24:54.89 the importance of properly understanding 00:24:54.92\00:24:58.13 the nature behind these prophecies 00:24:58.16\00:25:00.60 that we are studying. 00:25:00.63\00:25:02.03 And that's why I made an opening note here 00:25:02.06\00:25:03.40 that we need to come to understand the very nature 00:25:03.43\00:25:05.80 of these prophecies found not only in the Book of Daniel 00:25:05.83\00:25:08.94 but throughout the entire Bible. 00:25:08.97\00:25:10.91 And so we know that 00:25:10.94\00:25:12.27 if we study the Bible appropriately and responsibly, 00:25:12.31\00:25:14.81 we find that God uses a variety of approaches 00:25:14.84\00:25:18.51 to communicate prophetic truth 00:25:18.55\00:25:20.72 and it shouldn't surprise us because Hebrews 1:1 00:25:20.75\00:25:23.75 confirms this when it says, "God, 00:25:23.79\00:25:26.25 who had various times 00:25:26.29\00:25:27.89 and in various ways spoke in time past 00:25:27.92\00:25:31.16 to the fathers by the prophets." 00:25:31.19\00:25:32.89 So God uses a multitude of various ways to communicate 00:25:32.93\00:25:37.03 His word in His prophecies. 00:25:37.07\00:25:39.23 And so what we find in this particular lesson 00:25:39.27\00:25:41.54 is that in the scholarly world, in the theologian world, 00:25:41.57\00:25:45.24 I guess you could say, 00:25:45.27\00:25:46.68 they have categorized these prophecies 00:25:46.71\00:25:48.98 based on the content into two different categories. 00:25:49.01\00:25:53.11 And so every prophecy in the Bible usually 00:25:53.15\00:25:55.38 falls within one of these two categories. 00:25:55.42\00:25:58.15 And that would be either the classical prophecies 00:25:58.19\00:26:00.16 or that of apocalyptic prophecies. 00:26:00.19\00:26:03.73 And so when we survey, 00:26:03.76\00:26:05.59 and I like to refer to this as the first testament. 00:26:05.63\00:26:08.43 We know what is the Old Testament, 00:26:08.46\00:26:10.37 but I have to give a disclaimer. 00:26:10.40\00:26:11.93 As we're studying the Book of Daniel, 00:26:11.97\00:26:13.90 I have had many people, Pastor, 00:26:13.94\00:26:15.27 I know Brother Kenny, 00:26:15.30\00:26:16.64 all of us here have probably heard people say, 00:26:16.67\00:26:18.04 "Well, that's in the Old Testament." 00:26:18.07\00:26:20.71 Daniel was an Old Testament Book. 00:26:20.74\00:26:22.71 So therefore, you know, 00:26:22.74\00:26:24.08 we don't study the Old Testament 00:26:24.11\00:26:25.71 because we're New Testament Christians. 00:26:25.75\00:26:27.88 And I just want to just give a clear illustration 00:26:27.92\00:26:30.25 here now if you're braver than I am, 00:26:30.29\00:26:31.62 and I actually saw a minister give this illustration once, 00:26:31.65\00:26:35.09 but if you're braver than I am, 00:26:35.12\00:26:36.93 you could just go to the center of the Bible, 00:26:36.96\00:26:39.26 not necessarily the exact center, 00:26:39.29\00:26:40.70 but go find that little page right before 00:26:40.73\00:26:42.96 it says where it says New Testament, 00:26:43.00\00:26:45.37 and you can just completely remove that page 00:26:45.40\00:26:48.27 from your Bible because that's not even inspired. 00:26:48.30\00:26:50.71 Just wanna let you know that, 00:26:50.74\00:26:52.07 that is the publisher's edition. 00:26:52.11\00:26:53.44 And what it does is it creates division. 00:26:53.48\00:26:55.24 And, of course, I'm not sacrilegious, 00:26:55.28\00:26:56.61 so I'm not gonna tear papers out of my Bible, 00:26:56.64\00:26:58.61 but that's why I've folded this 00:26:58.65\00:27:00.55 because when we're serving the Bible, 00:27:00.58\00:27:02.25 and we're considering the prophecies 00:27:02.28\00:27:04.19 from the what we call the Old and the New Testament. 00:27:04.22\00:27:07.56 We just wanna clearly communicate 00:27:07.59\00:27:08.92 that it's the entire Word of God. 00:27:08.96\00:27:11.33 There's a continual perpetual flow 00:27:11.36\00:27:13.40 from the first testament into the second testament, 00:27:13.43\00:27:16.23 the Old into the New. 00:27:16.26\00:27:17.93 And it's God's continual word throughout. 00:27:17.97\00:27:20.87 And so Daniel is found in what we would 00:27:20.90\00:27:23.14 call the Old Testament. 00:27:23.17\00:27:24.77 But when we do, when we survey this correctly, 00:27:24.81\00:27:27.64 we find that these prophecies 00:27:27.68\00:27:30.38 fall into one of these two categories, 00:27:30.41\00:27:31.75 either classical or apocalyptic. 00:27:31.78\00:27:34.48 And so Daniel, of course, is the exception, 00:27:34.52\00:27:37.55 in most cases found in the Old Testament 00:27:37.59\00:27:39.65 because when you study the Old Testament, 00:27:39.69\00:27:41.66 most prophecies are found 00:27:41.69\00:27:43.56 within the category of classical prophecies. 00:27:43.59\00:27:45.79 And we're gonna determine 00:27:45.83\00:27:47.16 what the difference of that is just a moment. 00:27:47.20\00:27:48.66 But Daniel was an exception in that, 00:27:48.70\00:27:50.33 the majority, if not all, of the prophecies 00:27:50.37\00:27:52.83 found within fall into an apocalyptic category. 00:27:52.87\00:27:56.67 And so I'm gonna give you some of the differences between 00:27:56.71\00:27:58.91 these right now. 00:27:58.94\00:28:00.51 So depending on how you approach and categorize 00:28:00.54\00:28:03.24 these prophecies will determine at how you interpret them. 00:28:03.28\00:28:06.92 And we're gonna talk a little bit 00:28:06.95\00:28:08.28 about interpretation in just a moment 00:28:08.32\00:28:09.95 but some of the differences, 00:28:09.98\00:28:11.32 so apocalyptic versus classical. 00:28:11.35\00:28:13.29 So apocalyptic prophecies 00:28:13.32\00:28:15.42 usually come in the form of visions and dreams. 00:28:15.46\00:28:19.29 So almost in every case, God speaks to His messenger, 00:28:19.33\00:28:22.76 He speaks to His prophet through visions and dreams. 00:28:22.80\00:28:25.43 And He shows them very vivid pictures, 00:28:25.47\00:28:29.10 scenes that play forth in their mind. 00:28:29.14\00:28:31.27 And then, of course, later on, 00:28:31.31\00:28:32.64 they are to record and write these things down 00:28:32.67\00:28:34.98 so that you and I can receive them 00:28:35.01\00:28:36.64 versus classical prophecies 00:28:36.68\00:28:38.81 usually comes in the form of the word of the Lord. 00:28:38.85\00:28:42.52 And then we're gonna give an example of this in a moment, 00:28:42.55\00:28:44.32 but you read multiple times throughout the Old Testament 00:28:44.35\00:28:47.02 where the prophet says, 00:28:47.06\00:28:48.39 "The word of the Lord came to me 00:28:48.42\00:28:49.76 or the word of the Lord was spoken to me." 00:28:49.79\00:28:51.96 And so, and then that doesn't mean 00:28:51.99\00:28:53.36 that this cannot come in the form of visions 00:28:53.40\00:28:55.40 because it does happen in rare occasions. 00:28:55.43\00:28:58.10 But mostly, there's a drastic difference 00:28:58.13\00:29:00.44 there as apocalyptic prophecies 00:29:00.47\00:29:02.90 come in the form of visions and dreams 00:29:02.94\00:29:04.84 while the classical, of course, is just simply 00:29:04.87\00:29:07.41 God speaking either audibly or through thought 00:29:07.44\00:29:09.78 and impression to the prophet himself. 00:29:09.81\00:29:12.88 Now, also classical prophecies tend to be conditional. 00:29:12.91\00:29:18.59 This is vitally important. 00:29:18.62\00:29:19.95 If you reading a classical prophecy, 00:29:19.99\00:29:21.39 and you're considering it, 00:29:21.42\00:29:22.76 it often is dependent on human response 00:29:22.79\00:29:25.69 in the context of God's covenant with Israel. 00:29:25.73\00:29:29.00 And so this is referencing 00:29:29.03\00:29:30.37 the majority of the Old Testament prophecies 00:29:30.40\00:29:33.84 where we find that the majority of the classical prophecies 00:29:33.87\00:29:36.77 are found within the context 00:29:36.81\00:29:38.97 of this covenant with Israel, 00:29:39.01\00:29:41.81 and which it's dependent on some type of response 00:29:41.84\00:29:45.15 from his people 00:29:45.18\00:29:46.85 versus the apocalyptic prophecies 00:29:46.88\00:29:50.15 are mostly unconditional, 00:29:50.19\00:29:52.02 and they rest upon God's foreknowledge 00:29:52.05\00:29:53.96 and sovereignty and will happen regardless of human response. 00:29:53.99\00:29:58.59 And so I just wanna give kind of an example here 00:29:58.63\00:30:01.03 as we consider, for instance, the Book of Jonah, 00:30:01.06\00:30:03.70 the story of Jonah. 00:30:03.73\00:30:05.53 I was reading through Jonah. 00:30:05.57\00:30:06.97 And it's interesting that the very first opening line 00:30:07.00\00:30:10.04 of Jonah 1:1, it says, 00:30:10.07\00:30:11.77 "Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah." 00:30:11.81\00:30:13.64 And so there's another example of that classical approach. 00:30:13.68\00:30:16.18 The word of the Lord came to Jonah. 00:30:16.21\00:30:17.55 Now it doesn't necessarily say how, 00:30:17.58\00:30:19.45 in the sense whether he heard it audibly, 00:30:19.48\00:30:21.42 whether it was a thought or an impression, 00:30:21.45\00:30:23.28 and it certainly doesn't say that 00:30:23.32\00:30:24.65 he received it in a vision, 00:30:24.69\00:30:26.02 but the word of the Lord came to Jonah. 00:30:26.05\00:30:27.96 And, of course, this is repeated 00:30:27.99\00:30:29.32 in Jonah 3:3-10. 00:30:29.36\00:30:31.86 I'm not gonna read the entire passage. 00:30:31.89\00:30:33.56 But notice the very context of this particular prophecy 00:30:33.60\00:30:37.40 that Jonah is commanded to go deliver 00:30:37.43\00:30:39.90 to the people at Nineveh, 00:30:39.93\00:30:41.27 it says, "So Jonah arose," this is verse 3. 00:30:41.30\00:30:43.20 So Jonah 3:3, it says, 00:30:43.24\00:30:46.31 "So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh 00:30:46.34\00:30:47.94 according to the word of the Lord." 00:30:47.98\00:30:49.48 So there it is again. 00:30:49.51\00:30:50.85 "Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, 00:30:50.88\00:30:53.11 a three-day journey in extent. 00:30:53.15\00:30:55.18 And Jonah began to enter the city 00:30:55.22\00:30:57.32 on the first day's walk. 00:30:57.35\00:30:59.19 Then he cried aloud and said," notice, 00:30:59.22\00:31:01.22 "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!' 00:31:01.26\00:31:05.86 " Now it's interesting because 00:31:05.89\00:31:07.23 the verse as you continue through 00:31:07.26\00:31:08.60 and read through verse 10, 00:31:08.63\00:31:09.96 we know that there is a response of the people. 00:31:10.00\00:31:12.17 And the fact that God is simply declaring that 00:31:12.20\00:31:15.90 40 days from now this city is gonna be destroyed. 00:31:15.94\00:31:18.87 It's interesting that if there was not expected 00:31:18.91\00:31:20.78 of some type of human response, the Lord would just say, 00:31:20.81\00:31:23.24 "I'm gonna destroy the city now," 00:31:23.28\00:31:24.65 regardless, kind of like Sodom and Gomorrah, 00:31:24.68\00:31:26.51 but we find that God allows this timeframe, this 40 days 00:31:26.55\00:31:29.85 because He's looking for a response. 00:31:29.88\00:31:31.59 In other words, the outcome of this classical prophecy 00:31:31.62\00:31:35.16 is dependent upon the response of the people of Nineveh. 00:31:35.19\00:31:38.03 And praise the Lord, they all were revived, 00:31:38.06\00:31:40.00 and the city wasn't destroyed. 00:31:40.03\00:31:41.86 But in kind of contrast to that, 00:31:41.90\00:31:44.60 what's considered Daniel Chapter 7, 00:31:44.63\00:31:47.17 okay? 00:31:47.20\00:31:48.54 So given that God declared a specific time 00:31:48.57\00:31:50.67 into the judgment communicates in Jonah's perspective, 00:31:50.71\00:31:53.64 the implicit condition of the prophecy, 00:31:53.68\00:31:55.71 which will be determined 00:31:55.74\00:31:57.08 based on the response from the people of Nineveh, 00:31:57.11\00:31:58.85 but when you consider Daniel Chapter 7 00:31:58.88\00:32:00.82 or a prophecy like it, 00:32:00.85\00:32:02.52 we find that, you know, Daniel's envision, obviously. 00:32:02.55\00:32:04.99 So you can read there in the opening verses of Daniel 00:32:05.02\00:32:07.26 where he is envisioned versus, 00:32:07.29\00:32:09.06 of course, Jonah's experience was just the word of the Lord. 00:32:09.09\00:32:11.79 But as Daniel was seeing very vividly in his mind, 00:32:11.83\00:32:14.36 these four beasts, 00:32:14.40\00:32:15.96 you also notice their symbolism applied here. 00:32:16.00\00:32:18.47 So in apocalyptic prophecies, there's heavy symbolism, 00:32:18.50\00:32:21.57 God depends upon symbolism 00:32:21.60\00:32:23.27 to communicate His will and His way 00:32:23.30\00:32:25.07 and, of course, the future in this case. 00:32:25.11\00:32:27.54 But if we consider verse 6, specifically, 00:32:27.58\00:32:29.44 notice Daniel 7:6, 00:32:29.48\00:32:31.95 it says, "After this I looked, and there was another, 00:32:31.98\00:32:34.88 like a leopard, which had on its back 00:32:34.92\00:32:36.92 four wings of a bird. 00:32:36.95\00:32:38.32 The beast also had four heads, 00:32:38.35\00:32:40.16 and dominion was given to it." 00:32:40.19\00:32:42.12 And when you read the context of this passage here, 00:32:42.16\00:32:44.26 this apocalyptic prophecy, 00:32:44.29\00:32:46.06 there is no reference to any particular human response 00:32:46.09\00:32:50.37 that would determine a different outcome. 00:32:50.40\00:32:52.43 It is for sure, God has spoken it, 00:32:52.47\00:32:54.34 His sovereignty reigns, and He says, 00:32:54.37\00:32:56.04 this will happen 00:32:56.07\00:32:57.41 because the Lord says it's gonna happen 00:32:57.44\00:32:58.87 just as the way He said it was gonna happen. 00:32:58.91\00:33:01.14 And so I love what the lesson says here. 00:33:01.18\00:33:03.61 There was a part 00:33:03.65\00:33:04.98 I just wanted to highlight here. 00:33:05.01\00:33:06.35 It says knowing about the broad prophetic genres, 00:33:06.38\00:33:08.88 such as classical and apocalyptic prophecies 00:33:08.92\00:33:11.09 can be of great benefit. 00:33:11.12\00:33:13.15 First, these genres show that 00:33:13.19\00:33:14.99 God uses a variety of approaches to communicate 00:33:15.02\00:33:17.93 prophetic truth. 00:33:17.96\00:33:19.39 Second, such knowledge helps us better 00:33:19.43\00:33:22.13 appreciate the beauty and complexity of the Bible, 00:33:22.16\00:33:25.27 and I so appreciate that. 00:33:25.30\00:33:26.63 And then third, 00:33:26.67\00:33:28.00 this knowledge also helps us 00:33:28.04\00:33:29.37 to interpret biblical prophecies 00:33:29.40\00:33:31.24 in ways that are consistent 00:33:31.27\00:33:32.97 with the testimony of the entire Bible 00:33:33.01\00:33:36.08 and rightly explain the word of truth. 00:33:36.11\00:33:38.35 My friends, we have to learn as 2 Timothy 2:15 states, 00:33:38.38\00:33:42.68 "To study to show ourselves approved, 00:33:42.72\00:33:45.22 a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, 00:33:45.25\00:33:47.99 rightly dividing the word of truth." 00:33:48.02\00:33:49.99 And so it is vitally important 00:33:50.03\00:33:52.39 that we grasp the very nature 00:33:52.43\00:33:54.36 of what it is that we are studying, 00:33:54.40\00:33:55.96 that we read and study 00:33:56.00\00:33:57.47 within the context that God has determined. 00:33:57.50\00:34:00.77 And I just wanna say in closing here 00:34:00.80\00:34:02.14 in my last few moments, 00:34:02.17\00:34:04.61 you know, growing up, I learned so much. 00:34:04.64\00:34:07.88 But I was also confused in many aspects 00:34:07.91\00:34:10.08 because of the vast difference of interpretation 00:34:10.11\00:34:13.15 that was flawed based on how people categorize 00:34:13.18\00:34:16.35 or approach the study of the word differently. 00:34:16.38\00:34:19.92 If we simply allow God to tell us what God means, 00:34:19.95\00:34:23.76 simply allow His word 00:34:23.79\00:34:25.23 to determine within the context of His own word, 00:34:25.26\00:34:28.06 how we can interpret that the Bible says 00:34:28.10\00:34:29.70 there's no private interpretation. 00:34:29.73\00:34:31.33 So we need to allow the Word of God to speak for itself. 00:34:31.37\00:34:33.84 And I trust the Lord more than I trust my own work, 00:34:33.87\00:34:36.24 Pastor Lomacang. 00:34:36.27\00:34:37.61 Amen. Amen. Thank you. 00:34:37.64\00:34:39.67 You know, I grew up in one of those 00:34:39.71\00:34:41.04 New Testament Churches. 00:34:41.08\00:34:42.41 So, you know, 00:34:42.44\00:34:43.78 it's interesting to me because when Paul said 00:34:43.81\00:34:47.22 that all scripture is God created. 00:34:47.25\00:34:51.15 The new test... I mean, the New Testament Church, 00:34:51.19\00:34:55.09 what scripture did they have? 00:34:55.12\00:34:56.93 The Old Testament. 00:34:56.96\00:34:59.06 It's so funny. 00:34:59.09\00:35:00.43 My day is Wednesday. 00:35:00.46\00:35:02.76 And it is God's Timescale. 00:35:02.80\00:35:05.80 And I wanna pick up on just something and touch on this 00:35:05.83\00:35:08.97 that you were talking about classical prophecies 00:35:09.00\00:35:12.91 and apocalyptic prophecies. 00:35:12.94\00:35:15.68 In classical prophecies, 00:35:15.71\00:35:18.45 time is literal. 00:35:18.48\00:35:20.98 Let me give you some examples. 00:35:21.02\00:35:23.05 The seven years of plenty and famine, 00:35:23.08\00:35:27.06 this was a classical prophecy in Genesis 41. 00:35:27.09\00:35:32.43 The 400 years in Egypt from Exodus 12:14, 00:35:32.46\00:35:37.20 those were literal. 00:35:37.23\00:35:38.57 The 70 years of Babylon captivity, 00:35:38.60\00:35:43.37 Babylonian captivity that Jeremiah referred to, 00:35:43.41\00:35:47.91 time was literal. 00:35:47.94\00:35:49.94 In apocalyptic prophecy, 00:35:49.98\00:35:53.65 such as Daniel and Revelation 00:35:53.68\00:35:56.75 this is what we call eschatological. 00:35:56.79\00:36:00.59 That's a big word to mean end times, 00:36:00.62\00:36:04.49 eschatological. 00:36:04.53\00:36:06.53 And there time we apply a principle 00:36:06.56\00:36:11.53 that we're going to look at. 00:36:11.57\00:36:13.44 That is a year for a day principle. 00:36:13.47\00:36:17.61 So that's just kind of dovetailing with yours. 00:36:17.64\00:36:21.98 Let's look at the schools. 00:36:22.01\00:36:26.31 There's four primary schools of prophetic interpretation. 00:36:26.35\00:36:31.62 There is historicism, and then preterism, 00:36:31.65\00:36:36.49 futurism and idealism. 00:36:36.52\00:36:40.86 It is critical, what school we belong to, 00:36:40.90\00:36:45.87 if you want to really understand. 00:36:45.90\00:36:48.54 So I want to talk about how these kind of developed. 00:36:48.57\00:36:52.74 It's interesting. 00:36:52.77\00:36:54.11 Historicism 00:36:54.14\00:36:55.58 which the Seventh-day Adventist Church as Christians 00:36:55.61\00:36:59.55 we follow historicism, 00:36:59.58\00:37:01.58 which is what all of the prot... 00:37:01.62\00:37:04.12 It was the perspective of the early church. 00:37:04.15\00:37:06.72 It was what all of the Protestant reformers 00:37:06.76\00:37:09.46 followed was historicism. 00:37:09.49\00:37:11.63 That is an interpretation of prophecy 00:37:11.66\00:37:16.70 that is related to church history. 00:37:16.73\00:37:20.40 So they see the apocalyptic prophecy 00:37:20.44\00:37:24.17 that God is revealing the events 00:37:24.21\00:37:28.61 in an unbroken sequence of history, 00:37:28.64\00:37:33.01 from the time of the prophet 00:37:33.05\00:37:35.25 to the time of the end. 00:37:35.28\00:37:38.32 Now, as I said, Martin Luther, 00:37:38.35\00:37:41.76 Calvin, Knox, William Tyndale, 00:37:41.79\00:37:45.63 all of these reformers followed the historicist method 00:37:45.66\00:37:50.87 and they identified papal Rome, 00:37:50.90\00:37:55.40 the Roman papacy as the Antichrist power. 00:37:55.44\00:37:59.51 Now why am I even bringing that up right now? 00:37:59.54\00:38:02.64 Well, because when all of these reformers 00:38:02.68\00:38:06.92 looked to the papal power and said, 00:38:06.95\00:38:10.19 "That's the Antichrist power." 00:38:11.49\00:38:14.09 What did the papal power do? 00:38:14.12\00:38:17.33 They commissioned to Jesuit priests 00:38:17.36\00:38:21.90 to go off and to come up with an idea, 00:38:21.93\00:38:27.67 an interpretation of prophecy 00:38:28.50\00:38:31.11 that would counter the reformation. 00:38:31.14\00:38:35.48 So first we're going to look at preterism. 00:38:35.51\00:38:38.38 This is what they actually came up, 00:38:39.45\00:38:41.75 the Jesuits priests came up with the idea of preterism 00:38:41.78\00:38:46.45 and futurism. 00:38:46.49\00:38:47.96 So preterism, this was to counter 00:38:47.99\00:38:52.29 the Reformation. 00:38:52.33\00:38:54.16 This was the Jesuit priests Luis del Alcázar. 00:38:54.20\00:38:59.57 He said that prophesied events 00:39:00.87\00:39:04.74 that Daniel announced had already happened in the past. 00:39:04.77\00:39:08.38 So that's in a nutshell, that's preterism. 00:39:09.51\00:39:12.31 And he says, "Aha, if we go this way, 00:39:12.35\00:39:15.92 then they can't say that the papacy is the Antichrist." 00:39:15.95\00:39:19.85 Well, the one that has really grabbed hold 00:39:19.89\00:39:23.56 in today's church, 00:39:23.59\00:39:28.43 Christian church, 00:39:28.46\00:39:30.17 is futurism which a Jesuit priest came up with this idea 00:39:30.20\00:39:36.10 to counter the Reformation. 00:39:36.14\00:39:38.04 His name was Francisco Rivera. 00:39:38.07\00:39:41.64 And he proposed that the same time 00:39:41.68\00:39:46.11 prophecies await a future fulfillment. 00:39:46.15\00:39:49.78 But he did something really interesting. 00:39:49.82\00:39:52.25 He goes in and when we get to the 70 week prophecy, 00:39:52.29\00:39:55.66 this will make sense. 00:39:55.69\00:39:57.19 He goes in and he lops off 00:39:57.23\00:40:00.10 the 70th week of the 69th week 00:40:00.13\00:40:02.66 and he puts it a way down at the end-time. 00:40:02.70\00:40:07.14 At the very end of time, 00:40:07.17\00:40:09.30 which then it wouldn't be the 70th week, couldn't. 00:40:09.34\00:40:12.47 But this will all make sense as we go. 00:40:12.51\00:40:14.68 But this is where 00:40:14.71\00:40:16.91 I was a futurist. 00:40:16.95\00:40:18.98 I believed in a rapture, 00:40:19.01\00:40:21.22 I believed in all of these things 00:40:21.25\00:40:24.32 before I learned this. 00:40:24.35\00:40:26.32 Now idealism came into being the 14th 00:40:26.35\00:40:31.19 through the 17th century. 00:40:31.23\00:40:32.99 They believe that the apocalyptic prophecies 00:40:33.03\00:40:36.93 were symbols of general spiritual realities. 00:40:36.97\00:40:42.44 And they didn't have any specific historical reference 00:40:42.47\00:40:45.44 that they weren't fulfilled literally 00:40:45.47\00:40:48.64 or physically in an earthly sense. 00:40:48.68\00:40:51.91 In other words, no past, present or future. 00:40:51.95\00:40:55.25 Now as we study the Book of Daniel, 00:40:55.28\00:40:58.55 we're gonna see each major vision 00:40:58.59\00:41:02.06 Daniel 2, Daniel 7, 00:41:02.09\00:41:03.96 Daniel 8, Daniel 11, 00:41:03.99\00:41:06.49 repeats a historical outline 00:41:06.53\00:41:11.70 from different perspectives. 00:41:11.73\00:41:15.64 Each time it repeats it adding new details. 00:41:15.67\00:41:19.94 And that's what we call, repeat and enlarge, 00:41:19.97\00:41:23.81 and you'll probably hear us say that several times. 00:41:23.85\00:41:26.48 This is a pattern repeat and enlarge. 00:41:26.51\00:41:29.88 So what God is doing 00:41:29.92\00:41:31.35 is He is revealing an unbroken sequence of time 00:41:31.39\00:41:34.82 from the time of the prophet 00:41:34.86\00:41:37.06 clear till the time of the end, 00:41:37.09\00:41:39.06 till Christ's Second Coming, 00:41:39.09\00:41:41.20 and we're going to use 00:41:41.23\00:41:43.06 the historical method of interpretation. 00:41:43.10\00:41:47.74 Historicism has always held 00:41:47.77\00:41:51.07 that days, weeks, and years 00:41:51.11\00:41:54.74 in apocalyptic prophecy 00:41:54.78\00:41:57.61 when you're in that context 00:41:57.65\00:41:59.41 that it is should be understood 00:41:59.45\00:42:02.25 by applying a year for a day principle. 00:42:02.28\00:42:06.86 So these symbolic time periods 00:42:06.89\00:42:09.36 within the context of apocalyptic passages 00:42:09.39\00:42:13.66 are always found where symbols predominate. 00:42:13.70\00:42:18.00 Let me give you an example. 00:42:18.03\00:42:20.24 The symbolic flavor of time measurement, 00:42:20.27\00:42:24.37 when you think of time, 00:42:24.41\00:42:27.58 times, and half a time. 00:42:27.61\00:42:31.51 What a time was a year, times meant two years, 00:42:31.55\00:42:36.65 a half a time was a half a year? 00:42:36.69\00:42:39.99 Why not just say three and a half years. 00:42:40.02\00:42:43.26 It's very symbolic. 00:42:43.29\00:42:45.86 But those two if you look at a time, 00:42:45.89\00:42:48.76 times, and half a times, 00:42:48.80\00:42:51.13 based on a lunar year, 00:42:51.17\00:42:54.40 that's 1,260 days. 00:42:54.44\00:42:57.74 And I have to say this, 00:42:57.77\00:43:00.71 if when we all stay with this, 00:43:00.74\00:43:03.45 this is gonna be such a marvelous study. 00:43:03.48\00:43:06.41 But it is the time prophecies of Daniel 00:43:06.45\00:43:11.35 that convinced Sir Isaac Newton, 00:43:11.39\00:43:14.72 the great physicist to be a Christian. 00:43:14.76\00:43:19.59 He said, "These time prophecies are so incredible. 00:43:19.63\00:43:25.57 They had to be given by an almighty God." 00:43:25.60\00:43:30.41 So he believes Scripture. 00:43:30.44\00:43:31.91 So in prophetic language, 00:43:31.94\00:43:34.58 a day usually represents a year. 00:43:34.61\00:43:36.61 Let me give you two. 00:43:36.64\00:43:38.45 I'm talking too slowly, I say this. 00:43:38.48\00:43:41.05 Numbers 14:34 says, 00:43:41.08\00:43:44.55 "According to the number of the days 00:43:44.59\00:43:47.52 in which you spied out the land, 00:43:47.56\00:43:49.99 forty days, 00:43:50.03\00:43:51.36 for each day you shall bear your guilt one year, 00:43:51.39\00:43:55.63 namely forty years, 00:43:55.66\00:43:57.00 and you shall know My rejection." 00:43:57.03\00:43:58.73 So we also find the day for the year principle 00:43:58.77\00:44:02.27 in Ezekiel 40. 00:44:02.30\00:44:03.64 But here's what I wanted to point out. 00:44:03.67\00:44:06.54 When we're looking in Daniel, 00:44:06.57\00:44:08.71 Daniel 8:14, for example, 00:44:08.74\00:44:11.01 2, 300 days is 2,300 years. 00:44:11.05\00:44:15.25 Daniel 9:24-27, 00:44:15.28\00:44:20.19 70 weeks is 490 years. 00:44:20.22\00:44:24.69 And it's really easy to see 00:44:24.73\00:44:27.70 because these visions are symbolic. 00:44:27.73\00:44:30.33 Their times are symbolic, as the visions unfold, 00:44:30.37\00:44:35.87 even to the end of time. 00:44:35.90\00:44:37.44 This is why we do this 00:44:37.47\00:44:39.01 year for a day principle. 00:44:39.04\00:44:41.08 It is confirmed in the Book of Daniel 00:44:41.11\00:44:45.75 and a clear example is the 70 week prophecy 00:44:45.78\00:44:49.82 extended from the days of King 00:44:49.85\00:44:52.82 Artaxerxes to the coming of Jesus the Messiah. 00:44:52.85\00:44:56.52 Amen. 00:44:56.56\00:44:57.89 Oh, man, what a platform on which to build, 00:44:57.93\00:45:00.70 you know, on each one of you, yeah, 00:45:00.73\00:45:02.96 for all that information is wonderful. 00:45:03.00\00:45:04.77 I pray that you're being blessed at home 00:45:04.80\00:45:06.50 and you're writing these things down and go back and study. 00:45:06.53\00:45:09.07 I have Thursday's lesson 00:45:09.10\00:45:10.51 in Contemporary Relevance of Daniel. 00:45:10.54\00:45:13.11 You know, that's quite a mouthful 00:45:13.14\00:45:14.58 you look at so if you don't mind, I will... 00:45:14.61\00:45:17.08 I heard repeat and enlarge. 00:45:17.11\00:45:20.25 There we go. 00:45:20.28\00:45:21.65 I'm not sure I can enlarge on anything that was said. 00:45:21.68\00:45:23.72 But I'm just thinking of repeat. 00:45:23.75\00:45:25.09 Because the Book of Daniel again, 00:45:25.12\00:45:26.45 your things are repeated 00:45:26.49\00:45:27.82 and it's good some time to repeat. 00:45:27.86\00:45:29.52 But we wanna look at Book of Daniel realized 00:45:29.56\00:45:31.19 was written about 2,500 years, what? 00:45:31.23\00:45:34.23 Over 2,500 year period. 00:45:34.26\00:45:36.06 And it has a direct bearing 00:45:36.10\00:45:38.33 an application to God's last day people, 00:45:38.37\00:45:41.17 certainly in time of Daniel, 00:45:41.20\00:45:42.54 certainly for us today maybe even more so in my opinion, 00:45:42.57\00:45:46.37 where I want to maybe repeat and enlarge a little bit. 00:45:46.41\00:45:49.41 Sister Jill mentioned three things 00:45:49.44\00:45:51.08 and I think in this part of my lesson, 00:45:51.11\00:45:52.65 it brought out three things 00:45:52.68\00:45:54.32 that we need to look at very closely, 00:45:54.35\00:45:56.28 in which we study Daniel, 00:45:56.32\00:45:58.02 and we need all this information. 00:45:58.05\00:45:59.75 Every bit this here, we need every word it says, 00:45:59.79\00:46:02.09 you know, proceeds out of the mouth of God. 00:46:02.12\00:46:03.59 We need it here in these last days. 00:46:03.63\00:46:05.23 Number one, we reminded once again, 00:46:05.26\00:46:07.03 I think she brought up very well. 00:46:07.06\00:46:08.40 God stands sovereign over our lives. 00:46:08.43\00:46:10.47 Amen. Now, what does that mean? 00:46:10.50\00:46:12.20 That's something that's simple 00:46:12.23\00:46:13.57 but many people don't understand that. 00:46:13.60\00:46:15.77 And so I wanna give you just a few Bible passage, 00:46:15.80\00:46:17.61 jot them down rather quickly, 00:46:17.64\00:46:18.97 give you just a line of each one 00:46:19.01\00:46:20.34 'cause we go read them all 00:46:20.38\00:46:21.71 we won't have time to do some other things we wanna do. 00:46:21.74\00:46:24.11 Now this is how acquainted with each individual 00:46:24.15\00:46:26.68 on a very personal level. 00:46:26.72\00:46:28.62 That's God with us. 00:46:28.65\00:46:30.72 Psalms 94:11 is beautiful. 00:46:30.75\00:46:33.05 "The Lord knoweth the thoughts of man." 00:46:33.09\00:46:35.49 That's pretty personal, isn't it? 00:46:35.52\00:46:36.86 Isaiah 66:18, 00:46:36.89\00:46:39.09 "For I know their works and their thoughts." 00:46:39.13\00:46:42.50 Jeremiah 29:11, 00:46:42.53\00:46:44.57 "I know the thoughts that I think toward you." 00:46:44.60\00:46:46.94 Realize there's a lot more there 00:46:46.97\00:46:48.30 but what we're doing personal what God is working with us. 00:46:48.34\00:46:51.87 Luke 12:7 says, 00:46:51.91\00:46:53.88 "But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered." 00:46:53.91\00:46:58.58 Again, what are we looking at? 00:46:58.61\00:47:00.25 God stands sovereign. 00:47:00.28\00:47:01.62 He knows everything about us, all about the universe, 00:47:01.65\00:47:04.35 but yet He cares about each one of us. 00:47:04.39\00:47:06.79 1 Corinthians 4:5 says, 00:47:06.82\00:47:09.36 "God will bring to light the hidden things of darkness. 00:47:09.39\00:47:13.29 I will make manifest the counsels of the heart," 00:47:13.33\00:47:16.00 notice, "God stands sovereign," doesn't He? 00:47:16.03\00:47:18.23 "Over our lives." Amen. 00:51:12.27\00:51:14.84 I like an overseer, I don't mind an overseer, 00:51:14.87\00:51:17.64 you know, sometimes they see a little different than you do. 00:51:17.67\00:51:19.47 It might be a little issue, 00:51:19.51\00:51:20.84 but we've got an overseer 00:51:20.88\00:51:22.21 that has our best interests at heart. 00:51:22.24\00:51:25.65 Knows a lot more than we do. 00:51:25.68\00:51:27.15 He knows a whole lot more, 00:51:27.18\00:51:28.52 we say with the beginning from the end. 00:51:28.55\00:51:29.98 So He understands that if we just trust in Him, 00:51:30.02\00:51:32.75 there's none like Him. 00:51:32.79\00:51:34.26 He's our sovereign God, 00:51:34.29\00:51:36.02 the Book of Daniel brings out over and over. 00:51:36.06\00:51:37.89 Again, He's steering the course of history 00:51:37.93\00:51:40.23 because He's been written by the Holy Spirit. 00:51:40.26\00:51:42.36 Like it was in Job, you remember Chapter 38. 00:51:43.50\00:51:46.60 Job was having some issues. 00:51:46.63\00:51:48.34 Sometime we have some issues. 00:51:48.37\00:51:50.67 And he began to challenge God 00:51:50.71\00:51:53.48 I think in a way 00:51:53.51\00:51:54.84 and finally God just comes back to him in Job 38:4. 00:51:54.88\00:51:57.41 He says, "Where were you 00:51:57.45\00:51:58.78 when I laid the foundation of this earth or the world?" 00:51:58.81\00:52:01.28 And any challenge in this point, 00:52:01.32\00:52:03.35 declare if you have understanding, 00:52:03.39\00:52:05.25 if you ever done that someone, 00:52:05.29\00:52:06.62 you'll say something and say now what, 00:52:06.65\00:52:08.39 you know, what's your reason, 00:52:08.42\00:52:10.26 why are you taking this position? 00:52:10.29\00:52:11.76 God said, if you have understanding on this, 00:52:11.79\00:52:13.23 let me know. 00:52:13.26\00:52:14.60 And I would say that Job was silent. 00:52:14.63\00:52:16.97 And then God went into a lot of different things. 00:52:17.00\00:52:18.63 Point number three, God provides a role model. 00:52:18.67\00:52:21.47 In the Book of Daniel, God provides role models 00:52:21.50\00:52:23.74 for His end-time people. 00:52:23.77\00:52:26.11 And in this quarter, and certainly Daniel, 00:52:26.14\00:52:28.38 he's going to reveal. 00:52:28.41\00:52:29.74 God has raised what? 00:52:29.78\00:52:31.11 Men and women these last days to fulfill to be role models 00:52:31.15\00:52:34.18 that we need to be in the cause of Christ. 00:52:34.22\00:52:36.42 And certainly in Daniel, they're role models, 00:52:36.45\00:52:39.79 you know, in a time and a place where society had views 00:52:39.82\00:52:42.62 so different in Daniel's day, right? 00:52:42.66\00:52:45.43 So different that you made a song said 00:52:45.46\00:52:48.50 "Dare to Be a Daniel!" 00:52:48.53\00:52:50.10 Do we dare to be that today? 00:52:50.13\00:52:51.80 And, you know, it's just like it is today. 00:52:51.83\00:52:53.94 There's no doubt about it. 00:52:53.97\00:52:55.30 But in spite of all of this test 00:52:55.34\00:52:56.71 and all of these trials, 00:52:56.74\00:52:58.41 think of with me just for a moment, 00:52:58.44\00:52:59.94 God's faithful men and women, 00:52:59.97\00:53:02.04 they remain true to Him, 00:53:02.08\00:53:04.15 regardless of the consequences, 00:53:04.18\00:53:05.61 regardless of what happened to them. 00:53:05.65\00:53:07.62 They were committed. 00:53:07.65\00:53:08.98 They were empowered by the grace of God, 00:53:09.02\00:53:11.05 and they stood the test. 00:53:11.09\00:53:12.75 They were role models for us. 00:53:12.79\00:53:14.42 And when I read the Word of God, 00:53:14.46\00:53:15.79 I love those role models. 00:53:15.82\00:53:17.36 I realized there are many of them 00:53:17.39\00:53:18.73 who became role models, 00:53:18.76\00:53:20.30 but a time they maybe fell short. 00:53:20.33\00:53:21.96 But I learned from that too, 00:53:22.00\00:53:23.60 you know, not to follow in that. 00:53:23.63\00:53:24.97 So I praise God for that. 00:53:25.00\00:53:26.50 Sake of the gospel, 00:53:26.53\00:53:27.87 certainly we need to have courage 00:53:27.90\00:53:29.24 and we need to persevere 00:53:29.27\00:53:30.61 because we too have a message to give to the world. 00:53:30.64\00:53:33.91 You know, the main natural, 00:53:33.94\00:53:37.01 the natural we're looking at the perfect role model 00:53:37.05\00:53:40.28 is none other than Jesus Christ. 00:53:40.32\00:53:42.28 Still we look at three Hebrews, we look at Daniel, 00:53:42.32\00:53:43.95 we look at all these here, man, 00:53:43.99\00:53:45.32 what role models in the face of death, man, 00:53:45.35\00:53:47.22 they just stood up and said, this is a way it is, 00:53:47.26\00:53:49.46 they live by principle. 00:53:49.49\00:53:50.86 Now, didn't live by feeling 00:53:50.89\00:53:52.23 and emotion and all the other thing, 00:53:52.26\00:53:53.63 they just live by faith in God. 00:53:53.66\00:53:55.73 It's been mentioned here, 00:53:55.76\00:53:57.10 the Word of God said 00:53:57.13\00:53:58.47 and they said by the grace of God, 00:53:58.50\00:53:59.83 this we will do. 00:53:59.87\00:54:01.20 We need that today, 00:54:01.24\00:54:02.57 I believe in our society that we live in and in our church. 00:54:02.60\00:54:04.94 But Jesus Christ is the one where 00:54:04.97\00:54:06.34 it says there in John 12:32. 00:54:06.37\00:54:10.05 It says, "If I be lifted up, will draw all men unto Me." 00:54:10.08\00:54:13.85 And I think in the Book of Daniel, 00:54:13.88\00:54:15.38 we're going to see that Jesus got, 00:54:15.42\00:54:17.22 He's lifted high 00:54:17.25\00:54:19.45 for us to see because He is our role model. 00:54:19.49\00:54:21.96 And He does choose and He equips, 00:54:21.99\00:54:23.63 He empowers men and women 00:54:23.66\00:54:26.29 to be able to do what He's asked them to do. 00:54:26.33\00:54:28.30 So I think we kind of live in times just like that, 00:54:28.33\00:54:31.07 I can look at the illustration and say, you know, 00:54:31.10\00:54:32.90 are we not living in those times 00:54:32.93\00:54:34.27 right now that God's looking for that kind of people. 00:54:34.30\00:54:37.17 "We beholding the glass the glory of the Lord, 00:54:37.21\00:54:39.47 and we are changed into his," what? 00:54:39.51\00:54:41.58 "His same image." 00:54:41.61\00:54:42.94 Here in 2 Corinthians 3:18. 00:54:42.98\00:54:44.61 And so I would say today 00:54:44.65\00:54:46.21 that the Book of Daniel 00:54:46.25\00:54:47.58 has a direct impact on us today, 00:54:47.62\00:54:51.42 certainly then, but on us today, 00:54:51.45\00:54:53.79 and we need to be reading and studying these books 00:54:53.82\00:54:55.96 like never before because I believe that Jesus is coming. 00:54:55.99\00:54:59.39 And this will help us to prepare for His soon coming. 00:54:59.43\00:55:01.76 God bless you. Amen. 00:55:01.80\00:55:03.13 Amen. 00:55:03.16\00:55:04.50 Thank you so much each one of you. 00:55:04.53\00:55:05.87 I love this first lesson 00:55:05.90\00:55:07.24 because what we're doing is laying foundation 00:55:07.27\00:55:09.44 for the rest of the quarter, 00:55:09.47\00:55:11.87 studying those prophecies and interpretation 00:55:11.91\00:55:14.74 because that's important 00:55:14.78\00:55:16.11 as we dive into the Book of Daniel. 00:55:16.14\00:55:17.88 I wanna give each one of you a moment 00:55:17.91\00:55:19.51 to share about your day 00:55:19.55\00:55:20.88 or something else about the lesson, Pastor John? 00:55:20.92\00:55:22.85 Well, the major purpose of prophecy 00:55:22.88\00:55:24.95 is not what we believe 00:55:24.99\00:55:28.46 but who is revealed. 00:55:28.49\00:55:32.06 John 13:39. 00:55:32.09\00:55:33.66 Jesus said, "Now I tell you before it comes, 00:55:33.70\00:55:37.23 that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He." 00:55:37.27\00:55:43.17 It's not just what we believe, but who prophecy reveal. 00:55:43.20\00:55:47.11 Amen. That's right. 00:55:47.14\00:55:48.48 Amen. Jill, I think you said it best. 00:55:48.51\00:55:49.84 You know, it's great to have a foundation 00:55:49.88\00:55:51.65 to establish a foundation. 00:55:51.68\00:55:53.21 And I think most Christians today 00:55:53.25\00:55:54.58 regardless of interpretation, denomination, 00:55:54.62\00:55:56.85 most Christians today, I believe, would agree 00:55:56.89\00:55:58.35 that we're living during the time of Revelation, 00:55:58.39\00:56:00.36 the Book of Revelation. 00:56:00.39\00:56:01.72 But, you know, before we can understand 00:56:01.76\00:56:04.03 the Book of Revelation, 00:56:04.06\00:56:05.39 we have to understand the Book of Daniel. 00:56:05.43\00:56:06.83 And, you know, I just wanna encourage 00:56:06.86\00:56:08.26 my brothers and sisters at home who are watching this, 00:56:08.30\00:56:10.73 that tune in each week to this study 00:56:10.77\00:56:12.57 because we're gonna be studying things that Daniel wrote about, 00:56:12.60\00:56:15.60 that speaks about the times that we're living in. 00:56:15.64\00:56:17.77 And, you know, the Bible says, 00:56:17.81\00:56:19.14 to study to show yourself approved, 00:56:19.17\00:56:21.31 rightly dividing the word of truth. 00:56:21.34\00:56:23.24 Amen. 00:56:23.28\00:56:24.61 You just change what I was gonna say, 00:56:24.65\00:56:25.98 I just had to add to that is that you're right. 00:56:26.01\00:56:29.62 I used to pray. 00:56:29.65\00:56:32.25 Growing up in a church that did not study 00:56:32.29\00:56:37.13 the Old Testament. 00:56:37.16\00:56:38.49 We were also told not to study Revelation. 00:56:38.53\00:56:41.26 And then I would look and see that it says, 00:56:41.30\00:56:43.16 "Blessed are you if you're studying this 00:56:43.20\00:56:45.03 and reading." 00:56:45.07\00:56:46.40 And I thought, so I started studying it on my own. 00:56:46.43\00:56:48.10 And I couldn't, I had all of these books 00:56:48.14\00:56:50.31 on prophecy and nothing made sense. 00:56:50.34\00:56:52.77 The bottom line is, 00:56:52.81\00:56:54.68 it is not until you understand 00:56:54.71\00:56:57.18 that what, John, 280 scriptures of Revelation 00:56:57.21\00:57:00.32 from the Old Testament. 00:57:00.35\00:57:01.68 Two hundred and seventy-six. 00:57:01.72\00:57:03.05 Two hundred and seventy-six, most, 00:57:03.08\00:57:04.45 a lot of them are from Daniel. 00:57:04.49\00:57:06.52 You got to understand Daniel to understand Revelation. 00:57:06.55\00:57:09.02 That's right. Amen. 00:57:09.06\00:57:10.39 Praise the Lord. 00:57:10.43\00:57:11.76 Just a quick thought here says, men will learn. 00:57:11.79\00:57:13.13 This is taken from Letter 20-1-1899, couple of word, 00:57:13.16\00:57:16.10 "Men will learn the cross of Calvary 00:57:16.13\00:57:18.70 is the great sinner." 00:57:18.73\00:57:20.07 And we learned that as we studied Daniel. 00:57:20.10\00:57:21.44 Amen. 00:57:21.47\00:57:22.80 Thank you so much for opening up 00:57:22.84\00:57:24.17 the Word of God to us. 00:57:24.21\00:57:25.54 And we're so grateful that 00:57:25.57\00:57:26.91 you have joined us at home as well. 00:57:26.94\00:57:28.28 I wanna leave with you a scripture 00:57:28.31\00:57:29.71 from the New Testament. 00:57:29.74\00:57:31.21 This is 2 Peter 3:21, 00:57:31.25\00:57:34.88 "For prophecy never came by the will of man, 00:57:34.92\00:57:37.99 but holy men of God spoke 00:57:38.02\00:57:40.16 as they were moved by the Holy Spirit." 00:57:40.19\00:57:42.96 And that's what we find in the Book of Daniel. 00:57:42.99\00:57:45.19 A man whose life was committed to the Lord Jesus Christ, 00:57:45.23\00:57:48.60 who served him with all his heart 00:57:48.63\00:57:50.50 and in humility of heart, 00:57:50.53\00:57:52.23 but who God work through 00:57:52.27\00:57:54.20 to reveal what was coming in the future. 00:57:54.24\00:57:56.57 Join us next week from Jerusalem to Babylon, 00:57:56.60\00:57:59.87 Daniel Chapter 1. 00:57:59.91\00:58:01.34
