Praise the Lord. 00:04:06.34\00:04:07.68 We're gonna just quickly go right to the Sabbath portion 00:04:07.71\00:04:10.65 here into our memory text. 00:04:10.68\00:04:12.78 I like the memory text, in Ezra 3:11. 00:04:12.81\00:04:15.82 If you have it at home, be sure to look it up, 00:04:15.85\00:04:17.65 or at least jot it down. 00:04:17.69\00:04:19.02 It has some words, I like this... 00:04:19.05\00:04:21.46 You see, I like music. 00:04:21.49\00:04:23.19 You know, I never involved so much with it. 00:04:23.22\00:04:26.16 But I was always a listener, 00:04:26.19\00:04:27.93 and always appreciated good music, at least in my ear. 00:04:27.96\00:04:31.67 And so our text here in Ezra 31:1, says, 00:04:31.70\00:04:34.40 "And they sang responsively." 00:04:34.44\00:04:36.67 I kinda like that. 00:04:36.71\00:04:38.04 You see, what do you mean they sang responsively? 00:04:38.07\00:04:41.28 That's quite a different word. 00:04:41.31\00:04:42.64 You look it up in original language. 00:04:42.68\00:04:44.58 They said they sang together. 00:04:44.61\00:04:46.58 And another word, I thought was interesting. 00:04:46.61\00:04:48.68 They sang, notice this word, tunefully, on tune, 00:04:48.72\00:04:54.62 and I think, Pastor, in parts, they sang parts. 00:04:54.66\00:04:58.09 How wonderful that God gives ears to people 00:04:58.13\00:05:00.33 who can see music. 00:05:00.36\00:05:01.66 That's right. 00:05:01.70\00:05:03.03 And they make this harmony and this beautifully. 00:05:03.06\00:05:04.60 So when they sing, I know it was wonderful, good, 00:05:04.63\00:05:07.44 God gave good gifts and as He does today, 00:05:07.47\00:05:09.54 so I'm sure that people were blessed 00:05:09.57\00:05:11.34 and they raised their voices what it says here, 00:05:11.37\00:05:13.38 and they were praising and it says, 00:05:13.41\00:05:15.24 giving thanks to the Lord, for He is good for His mercy 00:05:15.28\00:05:19.18 endureth forever toward Israel. 00:05:19.21\00:05:22.02 You know, they sang responsively. 00:05:22.05\00:05:25.32 And sometime in church, 00:05:25.35\00:05:26.69 we need to do maybe more than that we do. 00:05:26.76\00:05:29.29 You know, when the music's going, 00:05:29.32\00:05:31.16 I like to see mouth, you know, lips moving, 00:05:31.19\00:05:33.70 the sounds coming out. 00:05:33.73\00:05:35.16 And people say, "Well, I can't sing very well." 00:05:35.20\00:05:36.97 The Bible said, make a what? A joyful noise. 00:05:37.03\00:05:38.57 A joyful noise unto the Lord. So I'm joyful. 00:05:38.60\00:05:41.00 And then when you're making a joyful noise, 00:05:41.04\00:05:42.37 don't forget to have that joy in your face. 00:05:42.40\00:05:44.27 Bless your heart. That's a smile. 00:05:44.31\00:05:45.94 You can't be singing praises to God 00:05:45.97\00:05:47.44 and have a legal long face, can I say that? 00:05:47.48\00:05:49.88 Sure. 00:05:49.91\00:05:51.25 A long face, we're gonna have a smile, 00:05:51.28\00:05:52.61 because we're giving praise to God. 00:05:52.65\00:05:53.98 It's been, you know, they say, 00:05:54.02\00:05:55.35 good week, it's been a good years. 00:05:55.38\00:05:56.75 God's blessed in a lot of different ways. 00:05:56.79\00:05:58.32 And so we praise Him for that. 00:05:58.35\00:06:00.69 That memory text there, it gets us. 00:06:00.72\00:06:02.56 To me, it gives us a good picture 00:06:02.59\00:06:04.09 of what we're gonna be studying about, 00:06:04.16\00:06:05.73 how Israel worship God. 00:06:05.76\00:06:08.50 Oh, how wonderful, think about how they worshiped God. 00:06:08.53\00:06:10.67 And I think we can learn some things, 00:06:10.70\00:06:12.17 don't you from this. 00:06:12.20\00:06:14.44 They had a custom, and I'm running a little late, 00:06:14.47\00:06:16.91 but the custom, always dedication, 00:06:16.94\00:06:18.64 when they had dedication, 00:06:18.67\00:06:20.01 where they dedicated their home, 00:06:20.08\00:06:21.41 whether it was a temple or whatever it might be, 00:06:21.44\00:06:24.45 the wall, there was always a celebration went on, 00:06:24.48\00:06:27.82 there was a dedication. 00:06:27.85\00:06:29.28 And I'm sure we have enough of those, 00:06:29.32\00:06:31.55 just in my own thought, 00:06:31.59\00:06:33.15 because everything that God gives us 00:06:33.19\00:06:34.82 or we're involved with, 00:06:34.86\00:06:36.56 should it not be dedicated back to Him. 00:06:36.59\00:06:38.56 Amen. 00:06:38.59\00:06:39.93 Should it not be sanctified for holy use, 00:06:40.00\00:06:42.33 I think really basic, I think, we can do that. 00:06:42.36\00:06:45.10 They did that, they celebrate that, 00:06:45.13\00:06:46.47 you know, the building of the new temple 00:06:46.50\00:06:48.54 in Ezra Chapter 6, 60 years later, 00:06:48.57\00:06:51.67 they just celebrated the wall being completed 00:06:51.71\00:06:53.84 in Nehemiah Chapter 6. 00:06:53.88\00:06:56.38 And they did it by singing and they did music, 00:06:56.41\00:07:00.15 instruments, festivity, feasting and sacrifices. 00:07:00.18\00:07:04.39 So all those may be can be too extreme, 00:07:04.42\00:07:06.42 but I think there's a good balance 00:07:06.45\00:07:07.79 in the Word of God. 00:07:07.82\00:07:09.16 We need to find that. 00:07:09.19\00:07:10.56 This week, we're gonna take a peek. 00:07:10.59\00:07:11.93 I was gonna take a peek in how they worshiped God. 00:07:11.96\00:07:13.73 And I believe maybe we can learn some things. 00:07:13.76\00:07:16.20 Well, I did. 00:07:16.23\00:07:17.80 I've been little too quiet 00:07:17.83\00:07:19.17 when I should have been a little louder 00:07:19.20\00:07:20.54 I think so anyway. 00:07:20.57\00:07:21.90 Singing the songs of the Lord there in Sunday's lesson, 00:07:21.94\00:07:24.84 singing the songs of the Lord, 00:07:24.87\00:07:26.68 Nehemiah 12:27, I'm just gonna read 27 here. 00:07:26.71\00:07:30.45 And notice what it says. 00:07:30.48\00:07:32.58 Nehemiah 12:27, "And at the dedication 00:07:32.61\00:07:36.58 of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites 00:07:36.62\00:07:39.72 out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem," 00:07:39.75\00:07:43.66 now notice, "to keep the dedication with," 00:07:43.73\00:07:45.83 what? 00:07:45.86\00:07:47.20 "Gladness, both with thanksgivings 00:07:47.23\00:07:49.23 and with singing, and with cymbals, 00:07:49.26\00:07:51.27 and psalteries, and with harps." 00:07:51.30\00:07:53.70 Man, there were musical instruments going on, 00:07:53.74\00:07:55.64 there was singing, there was festivity, 00:07:55.67\00:07:57.41 this was a good time to come together 00:07:57.47\00:08:00.31 to praise the Lord. 00:08:00.34\00:08:01.68 So I think it reveals what kind of a worship service 00:08:01.71\00:08:04.71 they were having 00:08:04.75\00:08:06.08 and what kind of a praise service 00:08:06.11\00:08:07.88 because it was all intertwined together, 00:08:07.92\00:08:10.62 music and praise. 00:08:10.65\00:08:11.99 I like the word dedication. Did you notice that? 00:08:12.02\00:08:15.32 And at the dedication is what it says. 00:08:15.36\00:08:17.06 And at the dedication. 00:08:17.09\00:08:18.49 What does that mean, you talk about dedication? 00:08:18.53\00:08:21.13 It seems to be the first dedication 00:08:21.16\00:08:23.77 of a city wall that can be found in the Bible. 00:08:23.80\00:08:27.44 You know, somebody may find differently, 00:08:27.47\00:08:28.87 first when you find the first dedication of a wall, 00:08:28.90\00:08:32.24 and you say, well, why was it, you know, 00:08:32.27\00:08:33.68 the first dedication of a wall, and how did it come about? 00:08:33.71\00:08:38.25 Well, number one is, 00:08:38.28\00:08:39.61 I was kind of interested in this, 00:08:39.65\00:08:41.05 that the high priest and the priest had a part 00:08:41.08\00:08:45.55 in building a portion of the wall. 00:08:45.59\00:08:47.99 Other words, the preachers didn't get away with it. 00:08:48.02\00:08:50.33 They had to... Thank you. 00:08:50.36\00:08:52.79 I wanna say I am one, so it's okay to say it. 00:08:52.83\00:08:55.50 And you know it's not our panel mate, 00:08:55.53\00:08:57.13 I didn't say, you know, Pastor John, Pastor John 00:08:57.17\00:09:00.17 or Pastor Kenny, 00:09:00.20\00:09:01.54 you know, here we just kind of like 00:09:01.57\00:09:04.24 go each other by first name, 00:09:04.27\00:09:06.54 but we realize as you have maybe a title of work. 00:09:06.57\00:09:10.08 That means we need to be out there, 00:09:10.11\00:09:11.48 I think, doing something. 00:09:11.51\00:09:12.88 The high priest helped built that wall. 00:09:12.91\00:09:16.22 And then the priests came along, 00:09:16.25\00:09:17.69 they built that wall. 00:09:17.72\00:09:19.62 Okay, the first thing they did was what? 00:09:19.65\00:09:21.72 First thing they did as soon as they got done, 00:09:21.76\00:09:23.89 the Bible tells us there in Nehemiah 3:1, it says, 00:09:23.96\00:09:26.59 they quickly sanctified it soon as they built it. 00:09:26.63\00:09:30.57 What an example? 00:09:30.60\00:09:31.93 'Cause we're gonna be talking about 00:09:31.97\00:09:33.34 as we're gonna singing and praising 00:09:33.37\00:09:34.70 and in our next lessons influence. 00:09:34.74\00:09:37.31 And so the influence was wonderful, 00:09:37.34\00:09:38.97 the influence because it's, the high priest is out there. 00:09:39.01\00:09:41.94 I won't say he's laying stone, or laying brick, 00:09:41.98\00:09:43.95 laying whatever it was, you know, he's not a guy. 00:09:43.98\00:09:45.51 He's got his hands in it. He's got the shovel. 00:09:45.55\00:09:47.75 Man, what an example, 00:09:47.78\00:09:49.12 if he can do it by the grace of God, 00:09:49.15\00:09:50.49 I'm gonna be doing it. 00:09:50.52\00:09:51.85 So maybe I'll help with some of the pastors 00:09:51.89\00:09:53.46 we not only learn to delegate things 00:09:53.49\00:09:56.09 and those in leadership, but get right in there 00:09:56.12\00:09:58.49 and help too because it's always such a blessing. 00:09:58.53\00:10:00.83 It always has been for me 00:10:00.90\00:10:02.20 and I know I could certainly improve on that. 00:10:02.23\00:10:04.87 But they sanctified it. People were watching. 00:10:04.90\00:10:07.40 And then I believe this, I believe 00:10:07.44\00:10:08.77 that Nehemiah saw them doing it, 00:10:08.80\00:10:11.11 not that maybe he didn't do it before, 00:10:11.14\00:10:12.54 in a sense. 00:10:12.57\00:10:13.94 Nehemiah saw 00:10:13.98\00:10:15.31 what they were doing and he said, 00:10:15.34\00:10:16.68 we need to do this as a people. 00:10:16.71\00:10:18.91 We're gonna have a ceremony, the wall was completed. 00:10:18.95\00:10:21.58 There needs to be some joy. 00:10:21.62\00:10:23.08 There needs to be some praise giving to God, 00:10:23.12\00:10:25.89 somebody who lifting holy hands, 00:10:25.92\00:10:27.76 you know, toward heaven. 00:10:27.79\00:10:29.12 It's all right to do that, sometime that we talk about 00:10:29.16\00:10:30.83 one-hander, there's two-handers. 00:10:30.89\00:10:32.79 Really every blessing of God really is the two-hander 00:10:32.83\00:10:35.40 as far as I'm concerned. 00:10:35.43\00:10:36.80 But sometime we can say, by the two-hander. 00:10:36.83\00:10:39.63 We should be praising God, 00:10:39.67\00:10:41.07 lifting holy hands and voices to Him. 00:10:41.10\00:10:43.87 The wall was completed, the people were happy 00:10:43.94\00:10:46.01 that something needed to be done. 00:10:46.04\00:10:47.94 Zachariah 2:5, the Bible says, "For I, saith the Lord, 00:10:47.98\00:10:52.25 will be unto you a wall," notice this, 00:10:52.28\00:10:54.72 they were interested in the wall, were they not? 00:10:54.75\00:10:56.55 Had to get it built, you know, protection. 00:10:56.62\00:10:59.89 They had to make sure the gates were in there, 00:10:59.92\00:11:02.02 the city was built. 00:11:02.06\00:11:03.96 But notice this, that's all well and good. 00:11:04.03\00:11:06.83 I'm just gonna pose a little question, 00:11:06.90\00:11:08.20 throw it out there and then we don't need an answer to it. 00:11:08.23\00:11:09.86 You can always think about. 00:11:09.90\00:11:11.23 Could God have without a wall, without a gate, 00:11:11.27\00:11:15.67 could He have protected His people in that city? 00:11:15.70\00:11:18.31 Absolutely. Yeah. 00:11:18.34\00:11:19.67 Okay, well, it's good 00:11:19.71\00:11:21.04 because it kind of demands an answer, 00:11:21.08\00:11:22.41 God could have done it. 00:11:22.44\00:11:24.25 But because of the surrounding nations, 00:11:24.28\00:11:25.95 and because of His own people, 00:11:25.98\00:11:27.78 going back on not doing what He wanted them to do, 00:11:27.82\00:11:31.39 an apostasy, God for the protection. 00:11:31.42\00:11:33.96 I believe that people wanted this done 00:11:34.02\00:11:35.59 and, of course, He mandated it to be done. 00:11:35.62\00:11:37.86 But notice what this passage says, 00:11:37.89\00:11:39.43 "For I, saith the Lord, 00:11:39.46\00:11:40.80 will be unto you a wall of fire round about, 00:11:40.86\00:11:44.73 and will be the glory in the midst," 00:11:44.77\00:11:48.37 notice that "of her." 00:11:48.40\00:11:50.74 So what does that tell us? 00:11:50.77\00:11:52.14 That tells us walls, 00:11:52.17\00:11:54.94 gates are all useless. 00:11:54.98\00:11:58.71 In a sense, notice this, unless God defends them. 00:11:58.75\00:12:02.38 It's good. Amen. Right? 00:12:02.42\00:12:03.79 Unless God defends them, it's useless, 00:12:03.82\00:12:05.15 no matter what you do in this world, 00:12:05.19\00:12:06.69 I'm gonna protect myself, I've got this set up here, 00:12:06.76\00:12:08.36 I got burglar alarms, I got all the thing right here, 00:12:08.39\00:12:11.13 unless God builds the house. 00:12:11.16\00:12:12.66 That's right. 00:12:12.69\00:12:14.00 Unless God protects the house, 00:12:14.10\00:12:15.40 unless guards that wall of fire around it, 00:12:15.43\00:12:18.73 something's going to happen. 00:12:18.77\00:12:20.10 You noticed it, this is a dedication, 00:12:20.14\00:12:21.54 Levites were asked to sing 00:12:21.57\00:12:23.17 and to give thanks and use musical instruments. 00:12:23.20\00:12:27.24 I've always had a hard time, Pastor John, 00:12:27.28\00:12:28.88 about those who teach you 00:12:28.91\00:12:30.31 not to have musical instruments. 00:12:30.35\00:12:31.71 That's another subject, I know, 00:12:31.75\00:12:33.08 but I've always loved them to hear it 00:12:33.11\00:12:36.52 and the Bible does not speak 00:12:36.55\00:12:37.89 a lot about these musical instruments, 00:12:37.92\00:12:40.06 about harps and musics and, hmm, 00:12:40.12\00:12:42.56 a couple of things on here, I have to be careful 00:12:42.59\00:12:44.09 where they said, they used things that rattled. 00:12:44.13\00:12:48.76 A little... 00:12:48.80\00:12:50.70 I'm not gonna go on with that, I'll get in trouble, right? 00:12:50.73\00:12:52.40 They had singers, and they had musicians, 00:12:52.43\00:12:54.30 and they had a special class, you noticed that, 00:12:54.34\00:12:58.04 special class, the best. 00:12:58.07\00:13:01.41 They did really the best, they did the singing, 00:13:01.44\00:13:03.75 I thought that was interesting. 00:13:03.78\00:13:05.91 God does say, make a joyful noise, 00:13:05.95\00:13:07.32 but interesting as when we put God 00:13:07.35\00:13:08.68 and puts it all together, 00:13:08.72\00:13:10.05 He demands us to do our very best 00:13:10.09\00:13:12.15 and often said in that song, 00:13:12.19\00:13:13.99 I think about it often that same song. 00:13:14.06\00:13:16.09 At the end of the day, I say, oh, Lord, I wonder, 00:13:16.12\00:13:19.19 have I done my best for Jesus 00:13:19.23\00:13:21.50 when He has done so much for me? 00:13:21.53\00:13:23.73 That's gonna leave it quite open for the rest of you 00:13:23.77\00:13:25.73 when you come back here, 00:13:25.77\00:13:27.40 because there's a lot to praise God about. 00:13:27.44\00:13:29.54 There is some more songs 00:13:29.57\00:13:30.91 and praises something that goes on 00:13:30.94\00:13:32.27 that maybe we need to hear about, Sister Jill? 00:13:32.31\00:13:34.34 Thank you, so much, Pastor Kenny. 00:13:34.38\00:13:36.64 You're fired up. Oh, I'm so excited about it. 00:13:36.71\00:13:38.05 The anointing of the Holy Spirit. 00:13:38.08\00:13:40.12 I'm excited to get into my day here. 00:13:40.18\00:13:42.92 Thank you, so much for that. 00:13:42.95\00:13:44.32 The importance of enthusiasm 00:13:44.35\00:13:47.42 and energy in the worship service and music. 00:13:47.46\00:13:50.59 Mine is Monday's lesson which is Purification. 00:13:50.63\00:13:54.23 I have one verse to talk about today, 00:13:54.30\00:13:57.00 but it is vitally important. 00:13:57.03\00:13:58.83 We're talking about purity in the worship service, 00:13:58.87\00:14:03.10 and purity preceding 00:14:03.14\00:14:05.51 or coming before the worship service. 00:14:05.54\00:14:07.68 So let's read our verse, we're in Nehemiah 12:30. 00:14:07.71\00:14:12.78 Then the priests and Levites purified themselves 00:14:12.81\00:14:16.22 and purified the people, the gates and the wall. 00:14:16.25\00:14:21.82 You notice they didn't just purify themselves 00:14:21.86\00:14:24.03 and they started with purifying themselves. 00:14:24.06\00:14:26.56 Then they went to the people, then the gates and the wall. 00:14:26.59\00:14:30.47 The word purified in Hebrew aher 00:14:30.53\00:14:33.44 means to be clean or pure. 00:14:33.50\00:14:36.00 Now it's used many different ways 00:14:36.04\00:14:37.47 in the Old Testament, 00:14:37.51\00:14:38.84 Pastor Kenny, sometimes it means ceremonial clean, 00:14:38.87\00:14:42.24 sometimes it means morally clean 00:14:42.28\00:14:44.75 and sometimes it means perfect. 00:14:44.78\00:14:46.35 It depends on the context you can see that. 00:14:46.38\00:14:49.05 In 2 Kings 5:10, 00:14:49.08\00:14:51.05 this is the story of Captain Naaman. 00:14:51.09\00:14:53.82 He was told go wash in the River Jordan seven times 00:14:53.86\00:14:56.99 and your flesh will be restored to you 00:14:57.03\00:14:59.26 and you shall be clean. 00:14:59.29\00:15:01.63 aher, that just means clean. 00:15:01.66\00:15:03.90 He's physically going to be clean. 00:15:03.97\00:15:06.20 Now in Ezekiel 36:25, it refers to a moral cleansing. 00:15:06.23\00:15:12.07 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, 00:15:12.11\00:15:14.18 and you shall be clean, aher. 00:15:14.21\00:15:17.85 I will cleanse you, there that's word again, 00:15:17.88\00:15:20.98 from all your filthiness and from all your idols, 00:15:21.02\00:15:23.99 so that's indicating a moral cleansing, right? 00:15:24.02\00:15:27.06 From the sin, the pollution of sin 00:15:27.09\00:15:29.52 in our hearts. 00:15:29.56\00:15:31.29 Psalm 51:7, "Purge me with hyssop, 00:15:31.33\00:15:33.80 and I shall be clean," 00:15:33.83\00:15:36.26 that word again wash me and I will be whiter than snow. 00:15:36.30\00:15:40.30 That's obviously talking about a moral cleansing as well. 00:15:40.34\00:15:44.47 That cleansing from sin and then, of course, 00:15:44.51\00:15:46.41 in Leviticus, there's many references, 00:15:46.44\00:15:48.48 where it refers to a ceremonial cleansing. 00:15:48.51\00:15:51.65 I wanna talk today about the importance 00:15:51.68\00:15:53.88 of purity of heart, preceding worship. 00:15:53.92\00:15:59.25 We're gonna have a list, Pastor John, 00:15:59.29\00:16:01.62 seven aspects or seven outgrowth of purity. 00:16:01.66\00:16:06.43 So number one, internal purity precedes 00:16:06.46\00:16:11.57 external purity. 00:16:11.60\00:16:13.03 Okay. 00:16:13.07\00:16:14.40 Internal purity precedes, 00:16:14.44\00:16:16.34 it comes before external purity. 00:16:16.37\00:16:19.21 Matthew 15:19-20, "For out of the heart 00:16:19.24\00:16:23.75 proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, 00:16:23.78\00:16:27.22 fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 00:16:27.25\00:16:30.39 These are the things which defile a man, 00:16:30.42\00:16:33.66 but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man." 00:16:33.69\00:16:38.19 One more verse, Luke 6:45. 00:16:38.23\00:16:40.60 "A good man out of the good treasure 00:16:40.63\00:16:42.03 of his heart," 00:16:42.06\00:16:43.43 what happens, Pastor Johnny? 00:16:43.47\00:16:44.80 "Brings forth good, but an evil man 00:16:44.83\00:16:47.24 out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil: 00:16:47.30\00:16:51.51 for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." 00:16:51.54\00:16:56.14 Amen. 00:16:56.18\00:16:57.51 We can come to worship, church, 00:16:57.55\00:17:01.68 sanctuary come to worship the Lord. 00:17:01.72\00:17:04.25 Externally pure. 00:17:04.32\00:17:06.72 We take a shower, we fix our hair, 00:17:06.79\00:17:09.16 we get dressed in nice clothes. 00:17:09.19\00:17:11.59 But our inside is where it counts 00:17:11.63\00:17:14.93 and the inside is what matters. 00:17:14.93\00:17:18.07 Internal purity always precedes the external purity. 00:17:18.10\00:17:22.97 Number two, purity precedes God's presence. 00:17:23.00\00:17:28.94 If you want the presence of God, 00:17:28.98\00:17:31.01 you must be pure in heart. 00:17:31.05\00:17:32.68 Matthew 5:8. 00:17:32.71\00:17:34.68 This is one of the beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount. 00:17:34.72\00:17:37.12 "Blessed are the pure in heart," why? 00:17:37.19\00:17:40.49 "For they shall see God." 00:17:40.56\00:17:42.82 If you want to meet God, 00:17:42.86\00:17:44.33 if you want to see God as it were, 00:17:44.36\00:17:47.30 we need to be pure in heart because sin cannot stand 00:17:47.30\00:17:52.40 in the presence of a holy God. 00:17:52.43\00:17:55.44 You ever been embarrassed or ashamed, Pastor Johnny, 00:17:55.47\00:17:57.74 to be in someone's presence 00:17:57.77\00:17:59.11 if you know you did something against them? 00:17:59.14\00:18:01.24 You know, if you knew you lied about them 00:18:01.28\00:18:03.48 or you took something or you did something 00:18:03.51\00:18:05.78 that you weren't supposed to do, 00:18:05.81\00:18:07.15 and then you're kind of embarrassed 00:18:07.18\00:18:08.52 or you really don't want to be seen with them. 00:18:08.55\00:18:10.15 I think that's the same thing. 00:18:10.22\00:18:11.79 If we know we are harboring or holding onto sin, 00:18:11.82\00:18:17.49 it puts a barrier and it pushes us from Jesus 00:18:17.56\00:18:21.53 and from His presence. 00:18:21.56\00:18:23.26 Now, this is not meant to discourage you, 00:18:23.30\00:18:25.60 because I'm getting to hope so don't flip the channel 00:18:25.63\00:18:28.60 and say, oh, well, I'm not pure. 00:18:28.64\00:18:30.14 I'm not gonna come to church 00:18:30.21\00:18:31.54 because we're going somewhere good. 00:18:31.57\00:18:33.17 Number three, purity precedes God's joy. 00:18:33.21\00:18:38.78 Purity proceeds God's joy. 00:18:38.81\00:18:41.65 Psalm 16:11, "You will show me the path of life, 00:18:41.68\00:18:44.89 in Your presence is fullness of joy, 00:18:44.92\00:18:48.02 at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." 00:18:48.06\00:18:50.16 And remember, we could not come in the presence of God 00:18:50.23\00:18:54.20 unless we were pure in heart. 00:18:54.20\00:18:56.10 So when God cleanses our heart, 00:18:56.13\00:18:58.30 we can enter His presence 00:18:58.33\00:19:00.77 and that presence will bring us joy. 00:19:00.80\00:19:04.37 Number four, 00:19:04.41\00:19:05.74 purity precedes God's blessing. 00:19:05.77\00:19:10.88 Do you want God's blessing in your life? 00:19:10.91\00:19:12.95 Are you wishing and longing for His blessing? 00:19:12.98\00:19:16.55 Purity precedes that. 00:19:16.58\00:19:18.15 Psalm 24:3-5, 00:19:18.19\00:19:22.19 "Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? 00:19:22.22\00:19:24.63 Who may stand in His holy place? 00:19:24.66\00:19:28.60 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, 00:19:28.63\00:19:32.33 who has not lifted up his soul to vanity," 00:19:32.37\00:19:35.44 King James, as New King James say, 00:19:35.47\00:19:37.24 "to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully, 00:19:37.31\00:19:41.38 He shall receive," what? 00:19:41.41\00:19:42.88 "Blessing from the Lord, and righteousness 00:19:42.91\00:19:46.25 from the God of his salvation." 00:19:46.28\00:19:48.65 Clean hands and a pure heart precedes God's blessings. 00:19:48.68\00:19:53.36 Number five, purity precedes God listening. 00:19:53.39\00:19:59.33 Psalm 66:18, this is a heavy verse. 00:19:59.36\00:20:02.46 "If I regard iniquity in my heart, 00:20:02.50\00:20:06.53 the Lord will not hear me." 00:20:06.57\00:20:09.14 There's one more verse 00:20:09.17\00:20:10.51 and then we're going to give you some hope. 00:20:10.57\00:20:12.01 Isaiah 59:1-2, "Behold, 00:20:12.04\00:20:14.14 the Lord's hand is not shortened, 00:20:14.18\00:20:16.81 that it cannot save, 00:20:16.85\00:20:18.38 nor His ear heavy, that it can't hear. 00:20:18.41\00:20:21.68 But your iniquities 00:20:21.72\00:20:23.22 have separated you from your God, 00:20:23.25\00:20:26.19 and your sins have hidden His face from you 00:20:26.22\00:20:29.99 that He will not hear." 00:20:30.03\00:20:31.43 So I want to pause just a moment and tell you, 00:20:31.46\00:20:34.83 God longs to hear your prayer. 00:20:34.86\00:20:38.20 And what I mean by that? 00:20:38.23\00:20:40.17 John 6:37, He says, 00:20:40.20\00:20:41.94 "Whoever comes to me I will never cast aside." 00:20:41.97\00:20:46.27 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, 00:20:46.31\00:20:49.04 He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins 00:20:49.08\00:20:52.28 and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 00:20:52.31\00:20:56.25 2 Peter 3:9, 00:20:56.28\00:20:57.62 "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, 00:20:57.65\00:21:01.12 as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering to us, 00:21:01.16\00:21:05.26 not willing that any should perish 00:21:05.29\00:21:07.13 but that all should come to repentance." 00:21:07.20\00:21:10.43 So the moment your heart even longs for God, 00:21:10.47\00:21:14.14 the moment you say, you know what? 00:21:14.20\00:21:15.87 I'd really like to step into a worship service, 00:21:15.90\00:21:18.64 step into church, the Lord receives you, 00:21:18.67\00:21:22.51 the Lord longs to forgive you. 00:21:22.54\00:21:25.48 You cannot have done anything too bad 00:21:25.51\00:21:27.72 that He will not hear. 00:21:27.75\00:21:29.55 You cannot have fallen too low that He cannot pick you up. 00:21:29.58\00:21:34.36 There is nothing that you can do 00:21:34.39\00:21:36.79 that will make Jesus love you any less. 00:21:36.83\00:21:39.39 Ever that will make Jesus say, oh, I can't forgive that sin. 00:21:39.43\00:21:42.56 He can forgive anything. 00:21:42.60\00:21:44.80 The scriptures that we're referring to, 00:21:44.83\00:21:47.74 I believe refers to cherished sin. 00:21:47.77\00:21:51.94 Another words, if you've accepted Jesus 00:21:51.97\00:21:54.24 and He's in your heart, 00:21:54.28\00:21:55.71 and He shows you an area in your heart 00:21:55.74\00:21:57.71 that's not pleasing to Him 00:21:57.75\00:21:59.08 or something He wants you to surrender to Him? 00:21:59.11\00:22:01.35 And you say, No, I'm not gonna give that up. 00:22:01.38\00:22:04.55 I like that too much, 00:22:04.59\00:22:05.92 it becomes an idol in your life. 00:22:05.95\00:22:08.22 That's what the scriptures are talking about, 00:22:08.26\00:22:10.33 where it says, He will not hear you, 00:22:10.36\00:22:12.16 when you hang on to sin 00:22:12.19\00:22:14.50 when He's asked you to give it up. 00:22:14.56\00:22:15.86 Good. 00:22:15.90\00:22:17.23 Number six, purity precedes worship. 00:22:17.27\00:22:21.47 Matthew 5:23-24, 00:22:21.50\00:22:24.11 "If you bring your gift to the altar, 00:22:24.17\00:22:25.94 and remember if your brother has ought against you," 00:22:25.97\00:22:29.78 don't worship, don't sacrifice, don't continue, 00:22:29.81\00:22:32.71 "you leave your gift at the altar. 00:22:32.75\00:22:34.75 You go and be reconciled to your brother, 00:22:34.78\00:22:38.09 then come back and offer your gift." 00:22:38.12\00:22:42.19 We cannot worship, truly worship 00:22:42.22\00:22:44.96 if there's something between us and God, 00:22:44.99\00:22:47.03 or if there's something between us 00:22:47.10\00:22:48.66 and our brothers and sisters. 00:22:48.70\00:22:50.53 And finally, number seven, purity precedes fellowship. 00:22:50.60\00:22:55.80 1 John 1-7, 00:22:55.84\00:22:57.17 "If we walk in the light as He is in the light, 00:22:57.24\00:22:58.97 we have fellowship," Koinonia "one with another, 00:22:59.01\00:23:03.18 and the blood of Jesus Christ 00:23:03.21\00:23:04.61 His Son cleanses us from all sin." 00:23:04.65\00:23:08.55 Purity leads to praise. 00:23:08.58\00:23:09.92 And we'll see that and the dedication here. 00:23:09.95\00:23:12.62 The praise, why do we praise? 00:23:12.65\00:23:14.16 Because we are forgiven, because we're restored, 00:23:14.19\00:23:17.43 and we're reconciled to the Father, 00:23:17.46\00:23:18.96 and we're made new in his image 00:23:18.99\00:23:21.40 because we are transformed by His grace. 00:23:21.43\00:23:23.83 And sons and daughters of the king, 00:23:23.87\00:23:25.87 we have an internal inheritance and grace, 00:23:25.90\00:23:28.94 peace and joy now. 00:23:28.97\00:23:30.57 So purity precedes God's presence, 00:23:30.61\00:23:33.84 His joy, His blessing, Him listening to us worship 00:23:33.88\00:23:39.25 and it even precedes fellowship as brothers and sisters. 00:23:39.28\00:23:42.85 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:23:42.88\00:23:45.15 That kind of resets really a foundation, doesn't it? 00:23:45.19\00:23:48.02 What we're talking about on this lesson. 00:23:48.06\00:23:49.86 Right now, we're gonna take a little short break. 00:23:49.89\00:23:51.69 We'll be right back. Yeah. 00:24:46.51\00:24:47.88 You know, this is a... 00:24:47.92\00:24:50.05 I'm on Tuesday's lesson 00:24:50.09\00:24:51.55 and this is a wonderful lesson to consider. 00:24:51.59\00:24:54.22 And this takes us into Nehemiah 12:31-42. 00:24:54.26\00:24:59.69 And I'm just gonna read it 00:24:59.73\00:25:01.10 because it sets the stage for what is going on here. 00:25:01.13\00:25:06.47 "So I brought the leaders of Judah up on the wall, 00:25:06.50\00:25:10.01 and appointed two large thanksgiving choirs. 00:25:10.04\00:25:13.51 One went to the right hand 00:25:13.58\00:25:15.38 on the wall toward the Refuse Gate. 00:25:15.41\00:25:18.28 After them went," Oh, here comes some names, 00:25:18.31\00:25:22.75 "Hoshaiah and half of the leaders of Judah, 00:25:22.78\00:25:25.32 and Azariah, Ezra, and Meshullam, Judah, Benjamin, 00:25:25.35\00:25:29.59 Shemaiah, Jeremiah, and some of the priests' sons 00:25:29.62\00:25:32.53 with trumpets, 00:25:32.56\00:25:33.90 Zechariah the son of Jonathan, 00:25:33.93\00:25:35.63 the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, 00:25:35.66\00:25:37.87 the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, 00:25:37.90\00:25:41.24 the son of Asaph, and his brethren, Shemaiah, 00:25:41.27\00:25:44.67 Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, 00:25:44.71\00:25:48.58 Maai, Nethanel, Judah, and Hanani, 00:25:48.61\00:25:52.58 with the musical instruments of David the man of God. 00:25:52.61\00:25:55.75 And Ezra the scribe went before them. 00:25:55.78\00:25:59.25 By the Fountain Gate, in front of them, 00:25:59.29\00:26:01.49 they went up the stairs of the City of David, 00:26:01.52\00:26:04.36 on the stairway of the wall, beyond the house of David, 00:26:04.39\00:26:07.66 as far as the Water Gate eastward. 00:26:07.66\00:26:10.17 The other thanksgiving choir went the opposite way, 00:26:10.20\00:26:13.94 and I was behind them 00:26:13.97\00:26:15.30 with half of the people on the wall, 00:26:15.34\00:26:17.04 going past the Tower of the Ovens 00:26:17.11\00:26:19.31 as far as the Broad Wall, and above the Gate of Ephraim, 00:26:19.34\00:26:22.34 above the Old Gate, above the Fish Gate, 00:26:22.38\00:26:24.91 the Tower of Hananel, the Tower of the Hundred, 00:26:24.95\00:26:27.75 as far as the Sheep Gate, 00:26:27.78\00:26:29.12 and they stopped by the Gate of the Prison. 00:26:29.15\00:26:31.45 So the two thanksgiving choirs 00:26:31.49\00:26:33.96 stood in the house of God, 00:26:33.99\00:26:35.32 likewise I and the half of the rulers with me, 00:26:35.36\00:26:37.79 and the priests, Eliakim, Maaseiah, 00:26:37.83\00:26:41.66 Minjamin, Michaiah, Elioenai, 00:26:41.70\00:26:45.53 Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets, also Maaseiah, 00:26:45.57\00:26:50.51 Shemaiah, Eleazar, Uzzi, 00:26:50.57\00:26:53.34 Jehohanan, Malchijah, Elam, and Ezer. 00:26:53.38\00:26:57.25 The singers sang loudly with Jezrahiah the director." 00:26:57.31\00:27:03.02 So we have here this setting, you have the singers, 00:27:03.05\00:27:06.22 you have the instruments, and of course the director, 00:27:06.25\00:27:08.42 which is very important for the director 00:27:08.46\00:27:10.39 to organize the choir and lead them in worship. 00:27:10.46\00:27:13.83 Now I have to say that God wants people 00:27:13.86\00:27:17.47 to worship Him in spirit. 00:27:17.50\00:27:19.50 And in truth. Good. 00:27:19.53\00:27:20.87 And Jill brought out 00:27:20.94\00:27:22.27 that there was a purification of the heart, 00:27:22.30\00:27:24.04 preparation for the worship of God. 00:27:24.11\00:27:27.28 And this group went and it was heard all over, 00:27:27.31\00:27:32.31 the praising of God, Thanksgiving. 00:27:32.35\00:27:35.02 Now, remember they're Thanksgiving choirs. 00:27:35.05\00:27:37.49 And when you're Thanksgiving, 00:27:37.52\00:27:38.85 you're rejoicing, you're being thankful 00:27:38.89\00:27:40.66 for something God has done. 00:27:40.69\00:27:42.52 And I was thinking as I was going through this, 00:27:42.56\00:27:45.43 I said, Boy, I remember the first time they... 00:27:45.46\00:27:47.60 I was somewhere and they sang happy birthday, 00:27:47.60\00:27:49.20 it was a large group of people and I did know that 00:27:49.23\00:27:51.43 somebody knew about my birthday, say, 00:27:51.47\00:27:53.54 hey, it's John's birthday, 00:27:53.60\00:27:54.94 let's sing happy birthday to him, 00:27:54.97\00:27:56.87 and it was early morning. 00:27:56.91\00:27:59.21 And so they started singing, and I was just, you know, 00:27:59.24\00:28:02.38 well, thank you. 00:28:02.41\00:28:03.78 You know, but somebody that was, 00:28:03.81\00:28:06.01 that actually began to sing and say hey, 00:28:06.05\00:28:08.45 wait, wait, wait, let's stop. 00:28:08.48\00:28:10.62 We're singing like it's a funeral march here. 00:28:10.65\00:28:13.62 This is a happy occasion. 00:28:13.69\00:28:15.29 Yeah, they were singing, happy birthday to you... 00:28:15.32\00:28:19.59 Very, you know, like sorrowful, like, 00:28:19.63\00:28:22.56 this person is about to die, that type of singing. 00:28:22.60\00:28:25.53 But God wants us to sing in spirit and in truth. 00:28:25.57\00:28:29.40 God has done so much for us. 00:28:29.44\00:28:31.14 Amen. "No." 00:28:54.30\00:28:56.63 "Well, you should be thankful. Are you in an insane asylum?" 00:28:56.67\00:28:59.90 "Well, no." "Well, you should be thankful." 00:28:59.93\00:29:02.84 And a person began, "Did you eat today?" 00:29:02.87\00:29:05.51 "Yes." 00:29:05.54\00:29:07.01 And all of a sudden, he began to realize, 00:29:07.04\00:29:08.68 yeah, I do have some things to be thankful for. 00:29:08.71\00:29:11.05 Really, if you stop and think 00:29:11.08\00:29:12.85 you can look back in your life and say, 00:29:12.88\00:29:14.38 you know, God has saved me even from destruction. 00:29:14.42\00:29:17.65 And God has done so much for us, 00:29:17.69\00:29:19.55 we have no idea. 00:29:19.59\00:29:20.92 I mean, we may come up with a little list. 00:29:20.99\00:29:23.22 But God says, no, no, this is what I have done. 00:29:23.26\00:29:24.69 Yes. That's right. 00:29:24.73\00:29:26.06 That's right. 00:29:26.09\00:29:27.40 This is what I have done for you. 00:29:27.46\00:29:28.76 On top of this list is what Jesus Christ 00:29:28.80\00:29:30.37 has done for us on the cross. 00:29:30.40\00:29:33.10 And we have a lot to be thankful for. 00:29:33.13\00:29:35.20 So this was a wonderful occasion 00:29:35.24\00:29:37.54 for the praise of the Lord. 00:29:37.61\00:29:39.37 And I want to bring out something interesting here 00:29:39.41\00:29:43.28 because music serves a holy purpose 00:29:43.35\00:29:48.48 and it should be for the adoration 00:29:48.52\00:29:50.39 and praise of God. 00:29:50.42\00:29:51.75 A lot of singing today, 00:29:51.79\00:29:53.76 talking about secular music is a lot of self 00:29:53.79\00:29:56.56 and a lot of this terrible thing 00:29:56.59\00:29:59.86 happened to me, you know, 00:29:59.89\00:30:01.30 but when you're worshiping the Lord, 00:30:01.33\00:30:04.03 adoration, glorify, you should enter 00:30:04.07\00:30:07.04 into worshiping the Lord in spirit and in truth. 00:30:07.10\00:30:09.30 In other words, 00:30:09.34\00:30:10.67 and I've seen this happen in churches 00:30:10.71\00:30:12.04 and I even when asked, I support him, 00:30:12.07\00:30:13.44 I may have done this myself. 00:30:13.48\00:30:14.81 Okay, let's sing this song. 00:30:14.84\00:30:17.05 And so the singing starts and it seems like 00:30:17.11\00:30:19.88 people's thoughts are far away, 00:30:19.91\00:30:22.58 thinking about problems of life. 00:30:22.62\00:30:24.89 Do yourself a favor, rejoice in the Lord, 00:30:24.92\00:30:28.26 sing with understanding, sing in spirit and in truth 00:30:28.29\00:30:32.99 because God has been good to you. 00:30:33.03\00:30:34.83 That's right. 00:30:34.86\00:30:36.20 And I like to read this to you from Christian Education. 00:30:36.23\00:30:40.94 "Music forms a part of God's worship 00:30:40.97\00:30:44.17 in the courts above, 00:30:44.24\00:30:45.57 and we should endeavor, in our songs of praise, 00:30:45.61\00:30:48.44 to approach as nearly as possible 00:30:48.48\00:30:51.51 to the harmony of the heavenly choirs. 00:30:51.55\00:30:53.58 The proper training of the voice 00:30:53.65\00:30:55.22 is an important feature in education 00:30:55.25\00:30:57.52 and should not be neglected." 00:30:57.55\00:30:58.89 Singing... notice this. 00:30:58.92\00:31:00.49 "Singing, as a part of religious service, 00:31:00.56\00:31:02.72 is as much an act of worship as is prayer. 00:31:02.76\00:31:07.66 The heart must feel the spirit of the song 00:31:07.66\00:31:11.67 to give it right expression." 00:31:11.70\00:31:14.44 This is from Christian Education, 00:31:14.47\00:31:16.20 page 62. 00:31:16.24\00:31:17.57 And I encourage you to consider 00:31:17.61\00:31:19.81 this part of singing that should be 00:31:19.84\00:31:23.11 a part of worship. 00:31:23.14\00:31:24.61 There are some scriptures that are also shared 00:31:24.65\00:31:27.02 during the lesson that I like to quickly look at. 00:31:27.08\00:31:29.52 One is Exodus 15:1-2. Exodus 15:1-2. 00:31:29.55\00:31:35.49 This is after the Lord made a great deliverance 00:31:35.52\00:31:38.29 for the people of Israel. 00:31:38.33\00:31:39.66 And it says, "Then Moses and the children of Israel 00:31:39.69\00:31:42.46 sang this song to the Lord, and spoke, saying: 00:31:42.50\00:31:46.40 'I will sing to the Lord, 00:31:46.43\00:31:49.00 for He has triumphed gloriously! 00:31:49.04\00:31:52.07 The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea! 00:31:52.11\00:31:56.38 The Lord is my strength and song, 00:31:56.41\00:31:59.68 and He has become my salvation.'" 00:31:59.71\00:32:02.62 Notice, my salvation, 00:32:02.65\00:32:04.02 you have to make it your own. 00:32:04.09\00:32:05.92 "He is my God, and I will praise Him, 00:32:05.95\00:32:08.72 My father's God, and I will exalt Him." 00:32:08.76\00:32:12.26 The Lord had delivered them from the Egyptians, 00:32:12.29\00:32:14.73 and they are commemorating this in song. 00:32:14.73\00:32:17.37 Perhaps the Lord will put a song 00:32:17.43\00:32:19.07 in your heart of your experience. 00:32:19.10\00:32:21.54 And I encourage you to consider the things 00:32:21.57\00:32:23.67 that God has done for you and thank God accordingly. 00:32:23.71\00:32:28.48 Now, this is interesting, 00:32:28.51\00:32:31.08 in Patriarchs and Prophets, 289. 00:32:31.11\00:32:33.38 Speaking of this, it says, 00:32:33.42\00:32:34.85 "This song and the great deliverance 00:32:34.88\00:32:37.69 which it commemorates, 00:32:37.72\00:32:39.05 made an impression never to be effaced 00:32:39.09\00:32:42.42 from the memory of the Hebrew people. 00:32:42.46\00:32:44.29 From age to age it was echoed by the prophets 00:32:44.33\00:32:46.76 and singers of Israel, testifying that Jehovah 00:32:46.80\00:32:50.33 is the strength and deliverance of those who trust in Him. 00:32:50.40\00:32:54.40 That song does not belong to the Jewish people alone. 00:32:54.44\00:32:58.61 It points forward to the destruction 00:32:58.64\00:33:01.34 of all the foes of righteousness, 00:33:01.38\00:33:03.45 and the final victory of the Israel of God. 00:33:03.48\00:33:06.05 The prophet of Patmos beholds the white-robed multitude 00:33:06.08\00:33:09.78 that 'have gotten the victory,' 00:33:09.82\00:33:11.59 standing on the 'sea of glass mingled with fire,' 00:33:11.62\00:33:14.26 having 'the harps of God. 00:33:14.29\00:33:15.66 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, 00:33:15.69\00:33:19.73 and the song of the Lamb.'" 00:33:19.76\00:33:21.13 Amen. 00:33:21.16\00:33:22.50 Look at it, Revelation 15:2-4, 00:33:22.53\00:33:25.13 "And I saw something 00:33:25.17\00:33:26.50 like a sea of glass mingled with fire, 00:33:26.53\00:33:28.84 and those who have the victory over the beast, 00:33:28.87\00:33:31.81 and over his image, and over his mark, 00:33:31.84\00:33:33.34 and over the number of his name, 00:33:33.38\00:33:34.71 standing on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. 00:33:34.74\00:33:37.65 They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, 00:33:37.68\00:33:40.58 and the song of the Lamb, saying: 00:33:40.62\00:33:42.75 'Great and marvelous are Your works, 00:33:42.78\00:33:45.85 Lord God Almighty! 00:33:45.89\00:33:47.89 Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints! 00:33:47.92\00:33:52.26 Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? 00:33:52.29\00:33:55.80 For You alone are holy. 00:33:55.83\00:33:57.90 For all nations shall come and worship before You, 00:33:57.93\00:34:01.77 for Your judgments have been manifested.'" 00:34:01.80\00:34:04.61 And so, I encourage you 00:34:04.64\00:34:07.21 to consider the great salvation of the Lord 00:34:07.28\00:34:10.55 and enter into worship and praise of the Lord. 00:34:10.58\00:34:13.82 That's right. Yes. 00:34:13.85\00:34:15.18 Perhaps it is a good time even now, as this lesson ends, 00:34:15.22\00:34:18.92 stop and thank the Lord for things He has done for you. 00:34:18.95\00:34:21.89 Amen. 00:34:21.92\00:34:23.26 Because even this week, may have been such a week 00:34:23.29\00:34:27.20 that you can say, wow, I'm glad that's over. 00:34:27.23\00:34:30.87 I'm glad that it's the Sabbath. 00:34:30.93\00:34:33.34 I am glad that now 00:34:33.40\00:34:35.30 I can look back and rest and say, 00:34:35.34\00:34:37.81 God has been good to me. 00:34:37.84\00:34:39.71 Amen. 00:34:39.74\00:34:41.08 So, we look forward to a great victory 00:34:41.11\00:34:43.21 through Jesus Christ, 00:34:43.24\00:34:44.58 continue to follow Him with all of your heart. 00:34:44.61\00:34:46.05 Amen. 00:34:46.08\00:34:47.42 And let me say this, if you are a worship leader, 00:34:47.48\00:34:50.65 please start the song service with songs about God 00:34:50.69\00:34:55.19 because people are still coming in 00:34:55.22\00:34:57.53 and they're talking to one another 00:34:57.59\00:35:00.23 and then move from those praise songs 00:35:00.26\00:35:02.70 into the worship songs. 00:35:02.73\00:35:04.60 And if you're in the audience, don't be talking to someone 00:35:04.63\00:35:08.24 when they're singing to the Lord, 00:35:08.27\00:35:09.87 we need to really make music worship. 00:35:09.90\00:35:13.38 Okay. 00:35:13.41\00:35:14.74 Wednesday's lesson is Sacrifices 00:35:14.78\00:35:19.21 as part of worship. 00:35:19.25\00:35:20.62 Let's look at Nehemiah 12:43. 00:35:20.65\00:35:26.79 Nehemiah 12:43. 00:35:26.86\00:35:29.96 "Also that day they offered great sacrifices." 00:35:30.03\00:35:35.16 Now, the sacrifices was, 00:35:35.20\00:35:37.83 this was the most essential part of worship. 00:35:37.87\00:35:41.24 And what did those sacrifices point to? 00:35:41.27\00:35:44.41 They pointed to the Messiah, Jesus Christ. 00:35:44.44\00:35:48.61 So this was how people 00:35:48.64\00:35:50.51 learn the truth of God and who He was, 00:35:50.55\00:35:53.68 and also the weight of sin. 00:35:53.72\00:35:56.95 Now think how solemn it would have been, 00:35:56.99\00:35:59.65 you know, when animals were being slaughtered, 00:36:02.86\00:36:05.29 that's a solemn occasion. 00:36:05.33\00:36:06.93 But look what it says, "That day they offered 00:36:06.96\00:36:09.70 great sacrifices and rejoiced, 00:36:09.73\00:36:13.67 for God had made them rejoice with great joy." 00:36:13.74\00:36:18.61 So there's reverence and there's godly fear. 00:36:18.64\00:36:21.51 But they knew what these sacrifices meant 00:36:21.54\00:36:24.45 that their sin 00:36:24.48\00:36:25.95 was being transferred to a substitute. 00:36:25.98\00:36:29.25 It pointed to the coming Messiah. 00:36:29.28\00:36:31.49 So they rejoiced. 00:36:31.52\00:36:33.39 "God made them rejoice with great joy, 00:36:33.46\00:36:35.82 the women and the children also rejoiced, 00:36:35.86\00:36:39.53 so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard afar off." 00:36:39.56\00:36:45.43 When was the last time the joy of your church service 00:36:45.47\00:36:50.87 was heard afar off? 00:36:50.91\00:36:53.24 You now, I just have to say 00:36:53.27\00:36:54.61 these sacrifices were worthless 00:36:54.64\00:36:58.21 if they weren't accompanied 00:36:58.25\00:37:00.25 with repentance and an obedient life. 00:37:00.28\00:37:04.02 I mean, this is something that we have to remember, 00:37:04.05\00:37:06.15 this symbol of the sacrifice is to be reflected 00:37:06.19\00:37:09.66 in the heart of the worshipper. 00:37:09.69\00:37:12.63 And as we approach God, yes, 00:37:12.66\00:37:15.16 we approach Him in awe and reverence, 00:37:15.20\00:37:19.53 but we should approach Him in joy. 00:37:19.57\00:37:22.84 You know, in the New Testament, 00:37:22.87\00:37:24.91 the New Testament we see that the sacrifices 00:37:24.94\00:37:29.01 of the Levitical system 00:37:29.04\00:37:32.18 continued until the crucifixion with the believers. 00:37:32.21\00:37:36.15 But with Christ's death, Christians understood that 00:37:36.18\00:37:39.92 animal sacrifices were no longer necessary 00:37:39.95\00:37:43.73 because He died as Hebrews 7:27 said, 00:37:43.76\00:37:48.23 "He gave the perfect sacrifice once for all." 00:37:48.26\00:37:52.90 Yes. 00:37:52.93\00:37:54.27 He doesn't need to be sacrificed again. 00:37:54.30\00:37:57.71 And after the cross, 00:37:57.74\00:37:59.54 we understand that our sacrifices, 00:37:59.57\00:38:02.71 we offer up spiritual sacrifices, 00:38:02.74\00:38:07.48 the Thanksgiving and the joy, 00:38:07.55\00:38:10.02 the praise to God through Jesus Christ. 00:38:10.05\00:38:12.99 You know, Paul called the Philippians gift, 00:38:13.02\00:38:15.19 a sweet aroma 00:38:15.22\00:38:16.66 and an acceptable sacrifice to God. 00:38:16.69\00:38:20.63 Now, the Jewish sacrificial system 00:38:20.66\00:38:23.47 came to a complete halt in AD 70 00:38:23.50\00:38:26.30 when the temple was destroyed. 00:38:26.33\00:38:29.57 But what we find in the New Testament 00:38:29.60\00:38:32.54 is the New Testament is always using terminology 00:38:32.57\00:38:36.34 about Jesus that goes along with the sacrificial terms 00:38:36.38\00:38:41.68 like the Passover lamb, the fragrant aroma. 00:38:41.72\00:38:46.02 John 1:29, when John the Baptist saw 00:38:46.05\00:38:49.56 Jesus approaching the River Jordan. 00:38:49.59\00:38:52.19 It says, "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, 00:38:52.23\00:38:55.20 and he said, 'Behold! 00:38:55.23\00:38:57.67 The Lamb of God who takes away 00:38:57.70\00:39:00.77 the sins of the world!'" 00:39:00.80\00:39:04.14 So, in the temple, 00:39:04.17\00:39:05.81 the morning and the evening services, 00:39:05.84\00:39:08.48 they were the sacrifice 00:39:08.51\00:39:10.68 for the sins of the corporate sin 00:39:10.71\00:39:14.75 if you would. 00:39:14.78\00:39:16.12 But once again, this pointed to Jesus 00:39:16.15\00:39:20.02 becoming the Lamb of God, actually, the Lamb of God 00:39:20.09\00:39:23.56 who was slain before the foundation of the world, 00:39:23.59\00:39:26.63 Revelation 13:8, is the everlasting gospel 00:39:26.66\00:39:30.60 that He was coming. 00:39:30.67\00:39:32.23 And by the way, I was reading a couple of months ago. 00:39:32.27\00:39:36.71 Did you know in classical Greek, 00:39:36.74\00:39:40.68 the word gospel meant good news 00:39:40.71\00:39:45.18 of a victory in a battle? 00:39:45.21\00:39:48.42 It wasn't just good news. 00:39:48.45\00:39:50.32 It was good news of a victory in a battle. 00:39:50.39\00:39:54.19 So the good news is, 00:39:54.26\00:39:56.32 Jesus came to pay the price for our sin, 00:39:56.36\00:39:59.66 the penalty for our sin. 00:39:59.69\00:40:01.53 But He also came, what did He say, 00:40:01.56\00:40:04.03 to do away with sin and the ways of the world? 00:40:04.07\00:40:07.50 Now, it's interesting to me in 1 Corinthians 5:7, it says, 00:40:07.54\00:40:11.94 "Therefore purge out the old leaven, 00:40:11.97\00:40:16.08 that you may be a new lump, 00:40:16.11\00:40:18.45 since you truly are unleavened." 00:40:18.48\00:40:22.28 We're unleavened hopefully. 00:40:22.32\00:40:25.19 "For indeed Christ, our Passover, 00:40:25.22\00:40:28.42 was sacrificed for us." 00:40:28.46\00:40:31.19 What does it mean to be unleavened? 00:40:31.23\00:40:33.50 Well, leaven was a symbol of sin. 00:40:33.56\00:40:36.26 And you remember at the Passover, 00:40:36.30\00:40:38.20 God had them slay a lamb, 00:40:38.23\00:40:40.70 and then they applied the blood to the doorpost, 00:40:40.77\00:40:45.07 and the reason it's called Passover 00:40:45.11\00:40:47.01 is because the angel of death passed over. 00:40:47.04\00:40:49.78 But they also made unleavened bread, 00:40:49.81\00:40:52.15 bread that they didn't have time 00:40:52.18\00:40:54.05 to let the bread rise, 00:40:54.08\00:40:55.75 but God had them sweep out their houses any of the leaven, 00:40:55.78\00:41:01.32 because that is a symbol of sin. 00:41:01.36\00:41:05.19 So when Christ, 00:41:05.23\00:41:07.23 when we accept Him as our Passover lamb, 00:41:07.30\00:41:10.23 He cleanses us of sin. 00:41:10.27\00:41:12.70 I mean, it's not something that we know we're justified, 00:41:12.73\00:41:17.41 that we are declared not guilty. 00:41:17.47\00:41:19.81 But then He takes us 00:41:19.84\00:41:21.18 through this process of sanctification 00:41:21.21\00:41:23.85 and continually bringing us 00:41:23.91\00:41:27.95 and clearing us of sin. 00:41:27.98\00:41:30.15 Now it's interesting to me, let's turn to Exodus 12. 00:41:30.19\00:41:35.36 And in Exodus 12, we're going to see 00:41:35.39\00:41:39.73 something that happened with the Passover lamb. 00:41:39.76\00:41:43.40 Exodus 12, you guys are getting, 00:41:43.43\00:41:45.83 get there before me. 00:41:45.87\00:41:47.80 Isn't it funny how sometimes... 00:41:47.84\00:41:50.14 I wanna look at verses 3 and then verse 6. 00:41:50.17\00:41:55.08 Exodus 12:3, He says, 00:41:55.11\00:41:58.38 "Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: 00:41:58.41\00:42:00.92 'On the tenth of this month 00:42:00.95\00:42:02.58 every man shall take for himself a lamb, 00:42:02.62\00:42:05.09 according to the house of his father, 00:42:05.12\00:42:07.46 a lamb for a household.'" 00:42:07.49\00:42:08.82 This is for the Passover. 00:42:08.86\00:42:10.73 So they went on the 10th, 00:42:10.76\00:42:14.10 and they got this little lamb. 00:42:14.10\00:42:17.03 And then when you jump down to verse 6, it says, 00:42:17.07\00:42:19.90 "Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day 00:42:19.93\00:42:25.01 of the same month and kill it at twilight." 00:42:25.04\00:42:29.44 So the lamb was in their house, 00:42:29.48\00:42:32.81 three and a half days this beautiful, 00:42:32.85\00:42:36.18 spotless, little baby lamb. 00:42:36.22\00:42:39.32 Just think, the children probably, 00:42:39.35\00:42:42.26 mom and dad are saying, don't name it, don't name it. 00:42:42.29\00:42:45.63 And the kids, you know, 00:42:45.66\00:42:47.00 how could you not love a little lamb? 00:42:47.03\00:42:49.70 Well, it's interesting. 00:42:49.73\00:42:51.30 In Revelation 5:6, when it is speaking of Jesus 00:42:51.33\00:42:57.07 as our lamb. 00:42:57.14\00:42:58.47 It says, "I looked, and beheld, in the midst of the throne 00:42:58.51\00:43:01.48 and of the four living creatures, 00:43:01.51\00:43:03.65 and in the midst of the elders, 00:43:03.68\00:43:05.48 stood a lamb as though it had been slain." 00:43:05.51\00:43:09.65 The word lamb here is not the same word 00:43:09.68\00:43:13.22 that has been used 00:43:13.25\00:43:16.06 when John said, "Behold the Lamb of God." 00:43:16.09\00:43:19.46 This word is a lambkin, a little baby lamb, 00:43:19.49\00:43:24.50 and He ministered for three and a half years. 00:43:24.53\00:43:27.94 Yes, yes. 00:43:27.97\00:43:29.30 I think what the purpose of this is, 00:43:29.34\00:43:31.91 is that God wants us to see 00:43:31.94\00:43:35.54 and make this sacrifice 00:43:35.58\00:43:38.58 a very personal thing. 00:43:38.61\00:43:41.22 Well, you know, when we recognize 00:43:41.25\00:43:43.55 that only worthy is the lamb who was slain. 00:43:43.59\00:43:48.36 When we recognize that God came down 00:43:48.39\00:43:52.86 to earth to die for us. 00:43:52.89\00:43:55.96 He humiliated Himself by becoming a man, 00:43:56.00\00:43:59.50 to me that's probably His greatest sacrifice 00:43:59.53\00:44:02.47 was taking on our flesh, because He returned to heaven 00:44:02.50\00:44:06.37 as the perfect God-man. 00:44:06.41\00:44:08.68 That's right. But He died for us. 00:44:08.71\00:44:12.58 That is something that is so personal. 00:44:12.61\00:44:15.05 And that's why God had the Passover. 00:44:15.08\00:44:19.95 He had the instructions, so that it wasn't just, 00:44:19.99\00:44:23.63 you're saying, oh, okay, I'll take that lamb over there, 00:44:23.66\00:44:26.19 go kill him and let's... 00:44:26.23\00:44:29.16 that will be my Passover. 00:44:29.20\00:44:30.83 No, it was a very personal thing. 00:44:30.87\00:44:33.40 And we pray for you, and for each one of us 00:44:33.44\00:44:36.81 that we will continually remember 00:44:36.87\00:44:39.24 what our God has done. 00:44:39.27\00:44:41.34 And as we remember, that we will, yes, 00:44:41.38\00:44:45.51 worship with reverence and awe, but worship with joy. 00:44:45.55\00:44:49.92 Amen. That's right. 00:44:49.95\00:44:51.29 Thank you, Shelley, thank you every one of you, 00:44:51.32\00:44:53.72 as we lead into now the Priests 00:44:53.76\00:44:55.09 and Levites as a part of worship. 00:44:55.12\00:44:58.59 Now before I dive into Nehemiah, 00:44:58.63\00:45:00.53 what I'd like to outline are some cautioned parameters 00:45:00.56\00:45:04.87 about worship. 00:45:04.90\00:45:06.33 Because Matthew 7:21-23, 00:45:06.37\00:45:10.31 cautions us that everything 00:45:10.34\00:45:12.74 that appears to be 00:45:12.77\00:45:16.75 Christian is really not. 00:45:16.78\00:45:18.35 Well. That's good. 00:45:18.38\00:45:20.12 You know, many will say to me in that day, 00:45:20.15\00:45:22.22 Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in the name, 00:45:22.25\00:45:24.99 cast out demons, done many wonderful works, 00:45:25.02\00:45:27.56 and I'll declare I never knew You. 00:45:27.59\00:45:29.36 Now when we go back to this very act of worship, 00:45:29.39\00:45:32.33 because worship was prevalent in Babylon, 00:45:32.36\00:45:35.80 when you look at some of the hindrances 00:45:35.83\00:45:37.80 that the Israelites had to deal with, 00:45:37.83\00:45:39.57 they had to get past the way that they worshiped in Babylon 00:45:39.60\00:45:43.00 and recalibrate to the way that they worship in Israel. 00:45:43.04\00:45:45.44 That's good. 00:45:45.47\00:45:46.84 So I wanna begin with a caution. 00:45:46.88\00:45:48.21 Let's go to Deuteronomy 12:30-31. 00:45:48.24\00:45:52.18 Deuteronomy 12:30-31, this is a very amazing caution. 00:45:52.21\00:45:56.48 Matter of fact I read my Bible so frequently 00:45:56.52\00:45:58.89 and we've gone through this, my wife and I 00:45:58.92\00:46:01.12 are now up to the Book of Ezra and Nehemiah, 00:46:01.16\00:46:02.96 we just finished Ezra. 00:46:02.99\00:46:04.89 But I came across this 00:46:04.93\00:46:07.66 in our devotional life together. 00:46:07.66\00:46:10.00 Look at verse 30 of Deuteronomy 12. 00:46:10.07\00:46:13.57 "Take heed to yourself 00:46:13.64\00:46:17.31 that you are not ensnared to follow them, 00:46:17.34\00:46:22.24 after they are destroyed from before you, 00:46:22.28\00:46:24.91 and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, 00:46:24.95\00:46:29.15 'How do these nations serve their gods? 00:46:29.18\00:46:32.52 I also will do likewise.' 00:46:32.55\00:46:34.26 You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, 00:46:38.19\00:46:41.06 for every abomination to the Lord 00:46:41.10\00:46:43.93 which He hates they have done to their gods, 00:46:43.97\00:46:47.14 for they burn even their sons and daughters 00:46:47.20\00:46:49.74 in the fire to their gods.'" 00:46:49.77\00:46:51.81 And there was an example established by heathen nations 00:46:51.84\00:46:55.18 that were a part of their worship. 00:46:55.21\00:46:57.51 And the Lord said, whatever you do, 00:46:57.55\00:46:58.91 do not ask how do they worship their gods 00:46:58.95\00:47:02.12 and we will do likewise. 00:47:02.15\00:47:03.52 Right. That's good. 00:47:03.55\00:47:04.89 What's happening in Christianity today, 00:47:04.92\00:47:06.25 there's a melting happening in Christianity, 00:47:06.29\00:47:09.42 I call it the wax factor. 00:47:09.46\00:47:12.59 Now, the reason I use that term 00:47:12.63\00:47:13.96 is because hearts are being melted from truth 00:47:14.00\00:47:18.90 and are going towards... 00:47:18.93\00:47:21.24 And I'm a musician, 00:47:21.27\00:47:22.60 so this is a very strong term for me. 00:47:22.64\00:47:24.67 People are putting truth second and music first. 00:47:24.71\00:47:29.51 I've seen that happening in Christianity, 00:47:29.54\00:47:31.58 where music is coming first, 00:47:31.61\00:47:34.02 and worship is coming second. 00:47:34.05\00:47:36.05 Music is coming first, and truth is coming. 00:47:36.08\00:47:40.06 We are talking less about worship the Lord 00:47:40.09\00:47:42.46 in spirit and in truth. 00:47:42.49\00:47:43.86 And the term if you listen to it 00:47:43.93\00:47:45.26 and look forward, worship the Lord in experience, 00:47:45.29\00:47:48.36 experience worship, experience God, 00:47:48.40\00:47:50.73 experience Jesus, not worship Him in spirit 00:47:50.77\00:47:53.94 and in truth. 00:47:54.00\00:47:55.37 And one is being pushed aside in favor of the other. 00:47:55.40\00:47:58.27 And the Lord always cautioned to that. 00:47:58.31\00:48:00.71 Matter of fact, in Psalm 29:2, it says, 00:48:00.74\00:48:03.58 "Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name, 00:48:03.61\00:48:07.65 Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness." 00:48:07.68\00:48:11.15 Not in the emotion of holiness. 00:48:11.19\00:48:13.12 I wanna make this really clear, 00:48:13.15\00:48:14.72 because not everything that's emotional is holy. 00:48:14.76\00:48:16.96 That's right. 00:48:16.99\00:48:18.33 We know that today, 00:48:18.36\00:48:19.69 there are those who would rather say, 00:48:19.73\00:48:21.03 well, you don't know what I felt. 00:48:21.06\00:48:22.53 Well, Jesus, when He went to the cross, 00:48:22.56\00:48:25.33 it wasn't a feeling. 00:48:25.37\00:48:27.34 That's why He responded to every appeal the enemy made, 00:48:27.37\00:48:31.61 He said, it is written. 00:48:31.64\00:48:32.97 So the foundation of our worship 00:48:33.01\00:48:34.38 should be parametered into the pages 00:48:34.41\00:48:36.18 of the Word of God. 00:48:36.21\00:48:38.81 Another example is, you find the question 00:48:38.85\00:48:42.78 that I would like to a pose before I go to Nehemiah, 00:48:42.82\00:48:47.99 is when does worship cease to be acceptable to God? 00:48:48.02\00:48:52.03 It's a powerful question. That is. 00:48:52.06\00:48:53.83 Let's go to Daniel Chapter 3. I want you to see this. 00:48:53.90\00:48:57.90 When does worship cease to be acceptable to God? 00:48:57.93\00:49:01.17 Now, you'd say that, well, how could worship 00:49:01.20\00:49:03.04 ever cease to be acceptable to God? 00:49:03.07\00:49:05.44 Well, let's look at one of the most classic examples 00:49:05.47\00:49:07.31 we find in Scripture. 00:49:07.34\00:49:08.78 In Daniel 3, well, we know the scene. 00:49:08.81\00:49:11.65 The scene is the Hebrews are there on the plane of Dura, 00:49:11.68\00:49:14.92 and all the nations are gathered 00:49:14.95\00:49:17.02 before King Nebuchadnezzar 00:49:17.05\00:49:21.36 and the golden image has been erected. 00:49:21.39\00:49:24.89 And notice what's happening. 00:49:24.93\00:49:26.86 All the instruments are being played. 00:49:26.93\00:49:29.53 All the instruments, you find, verse 5, verse 4, 00:49:29.56\00:49:33.54 "Then a herald cried aloud: 00:49:33.57\00:49:35.60 'To you it is commanded, 00:49:35.64\00:49:37.01 O people, nations, and languages, 00:49:37.04\00:49:38.67 that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, 00:49:38.71\00:49:40.88 the flute, the harp, the lyre, the psaltery, 00:49:40.91\00:49:44.45 the symphony with all kinds of music, 00:49:44.48\00:49:47.22 you shall fall down and worship the gold image 00:49:47.25\00:49:50.82 that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.'" 00:49:50.89\00:49:53.25 Notice, the focus was worship. 00:49:53.29\00:49:55.09 Yeah. Yeah. 00:49:55.12\00:49:56.46 So we have to keep in mind, 00:49:56.49\00:49:57.83 not all worship is acceptable to God. 00:49:57.86\00:49:59.19 That's right. 00:49:59.23\00:50:00.60 And I was sitting in a parking lot 00:50:00.63\00:50:02.63 one day in Florida 00:50:02.66\00:50:04.03 when my wife went into Wal-Mart to get something. 00:50:04.07\00:50:06.23 And the Lord poured this into my musician mind. 00:50:06.27\00:50:09.50 Because music, we have to always maintain 00:50:09.54\00:50:12.44 a parameter to make sure that our music... 00:50:12.47\00:50:15.01 And I'm not talking about instruments here because 00:50:15.04\00:50:16.58 what I discovered when I saw the instruments, 00:50:16.61\00:50:19.28 I began to study the instruments used in Israel 00:50:19.31\00:50:22.45 and they were the same instruments, 00:50:22.48\00:50:24.49 very slight variation. 00:50:24.52\00:50:27.02 But the instruments were pretty much the same, 00:50:27.06\00:50:28.66 the flute, the harp, the lyre, the psaltery. 00:50:28.69\00:50:30.89 And I said, well, okay, 00:50:30.93\00:50:33.09 I guess the instrument is not the issue. 00:50:33.13\00:50:35.20 And here's what the Lord brought to me. 00:50:35.23\00:50:37.20 Let's look at Daniel 3:15. This was a key. 00:50:37.23\00:50:43.07 "Now if you are ready at the time you hear 00:50:43.10\00:50:45.21 the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, 00:50:45.24\00:50:48.54 and psaltery, and symphony with all kinds of music, 00:50:48.58\00:50:52.51 and you fall down." 00:50:52.55\00:50:54.48 You do what? Fall down. 00:50:54.52\00:50:55.88 "Fall down and worship the image 00:50:55.92\00:50:57.72 which I have made, good! 00:50:57.75\00:51:00.16 But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately 00:51:00.19\00:51:03.22 into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 00:51:03.26\00:51:05.69 And who is the god 00:51:05.73\00:51:07.10 who will deliver you from my hands?" 00:51:07.13\00:51:09.30 The key is when worship leads you 00:51:09.33\00:51:12.17 to bow at the wrong altar, 00:51:12.20\00:51:14.70 it ceases to be worship to the true God. 00:51:14.74\00:51:17.37 It's never about the music, and most cases not about them, 00:51:17.41\00:51:20.64 because you can sing some of the... 00:51:20.68\00:51:22.01 same praise songs in a place where truth is proclaimed, 00:51:22.04\00:51:25.78 as well as a place where truth is not proclaimed. 00:51:25.81\00:51:28.65 But if it leads you to bow at the wrong altar, 00:51:28.68\00:51:31.09 and that was the issue in the Hebrews' hearts, 00:51:31.12\00:51:33.32 we will not bow at your altar, we will not bow. 00:51:33.36\00:51:37.49 Because they remember, what's the commandment? 00:51:37.53\00:51:39.96 "Thou shall not bow down themselves to them 00:51:40.00\00:51:42.86 nor serve them." 00:51:42.90\00:51:44.43 Bowing is always an act of service. 00:51:44.47\00:51:47.37 When it leads you to the wrong altar, 00:51:47.40\00:51:49.94 that's when it ceases to be worship to the true God, 00:51:49.97\00:51:52.07 and today and the reason I lead with that is 00:51:52.11\00:51:53.71 because the joy over the Levites 00:51:53.74\00:51:56.08 and the Priests were we have 00:51:56.11\00:51:59.01 and the reason why Nehemiah rejoiced, 00:51:59.05\00:52:00.45 the reason why there was rejoicing 00:52:00.52\00:52:02.18 over the Levites and Priests 00:52:02.22\00:52:04.09 that ministered in the time of worship 00:52:04.12\00:52:05.92 is we have parameters. 00:52:05.95\00:52:08.12 These men were taught the parameters of worship. 00:52:08.16\00:52:13.50 Worship without parameters is not worship. 00:52:13.53\00:52:16.93 These men were given the parameters by God 00:52:16.97\00:52:20.10 as to how our worship should be communicated. 00:52:20.14\00:52:22.17 That's why in one of our former lessons, 00:52:22.20\00:52:24.27 you have those who read 13 and those who interpreted 00:52:24.31\00:52:27.61 what was read, 00:52:27.64\00:52:28.98 so that people will go forth to God 00:52:29.01\00:52:30.51 and worship Him, not based on just feeling 00:52:30.55\00:52:33.25 or emotion or music, but on understanding. 00:52:33.28\00:52:37.05 And so understanding is so significant 00:52:37.09\00:52:39.32 when it comes to worshiping the Lord. 00:52:39.35\00:52:41.56 So we find here that was the big issue, 00:52:41.59\00:52:45.33 that when it leads you to bow at the wrong altar, 00:52:45.36\00:52:47.60 it ceases to be worshiped to the true God, 00:52:47.60\00:52:49.90 because you know, they had no issue bowing, 00:52:49.93\00:52:51.93 but it was where they were told to bow. 00:52:51.97\00:52:53.67 That's right. So here's my point. 00:52:53.70\00:52:55.04 Let's make application to today. 00:52:55.07\00:52:56.84 If you are walking away from truth 00:52:56.87\00:52:58.84 and find yourself in a place where truth is not taught, 00:52:58.87\00:53:01.74 and you say, well, I like the music, 00:53:01.78\00:53:03.35 you're bowing at the wrong altar. 00:53:03.38\00:53:04.71 That's right. I'm gonna be candid. 00:53:04.75\00:53:06.72 And so many of our young people are following music 00:53:06.75\00:53:09.62 and abandoning truth in favor of feeling and emotion 00:53:09.65\00:53:13.39 and so called "Worship." 00:53:13.46\00:53:14.79 That's why the Lord say, 00:53:14.82\00:53:16.16 "Many will come in my name saying, 00:53:16.19\00:53:17.53 'I am Christ, and will deceive many.'" 00:53:17.56\00:53:19.33 So there's a false Christ centeredness today 00:53:19.36\00:53:22.33 that's taking over worship that belongs to the true God, 00:53:22.36\00:53:25.87 be careful with that. 00:53:25.90\00:53:27.24 Yes. 00:53:27.30\00:53:28.64 Another question is, why did Judah rejoice 00:53:28.67\00:53:30.01 over the Priests and Levites who ministered? 00:53:30.04\00:53:32.11 Five very important points. 00:53:32.14\00:53:34.38 Judah rejoiced over the Levites 00:53:34.41\00:53:35.84 because they represented 00:53:35.88\00:53:37.21 those that interceded for God's people. 00:53:37.25\00:53:39.25 Yes. 00:53:39.28\00:53:40.62 They were to intercede, 00:53:40.68\00:53:42.02 they were the ones who interceded. 00:53:42.05\00:53:43.59 There was a connection 00:53:43.65\00:53:44.99 between the worship of the people 00:53:45.02\00:53:46.39 and those who had led them into the presence of God. 00:53:46.42\00:53:48.86 Secondly, the Priest and Levites 00:53:48.89\00:53:50.59 had exclusive access to the holy things of God. 00:53:50.63\00:53:54.46 That's why Uzzah was destroyed. 00:53:54.46\00:53:57.50 He shouldn't touch things. 00:53:57.53\00:53:58.87 Don't allow yourself to cross a barrier. 00:53:58.90\00:54:02.67 And that was the issue in Uzziah's life. 00:54:02.70\00:54:05.01 He went to the temple and the Lord cast him out, 00:54:05.04\00:54:08.18 80 priests came and told him, get out of here 00:54:08.21\00:54:10.55 because you are not appointed by God 00:54:10.58\00:54:13.45 to minister in these things. 00:54:13.52\00:54:14.85 Yeah. 00:54:14.88\00:54:16.22 Don't allow the place that God puts you 00:54:16.25\00:54:17.99 to become a place of discontent 00:54:18.02\00:54:19.82 and cross over where God never put you. 00:54:19.85\00:54:21.72 Amen. 00:54:21.76\00:54:23.09 The third thing, 00:54:23.12\00:54:24.46 without the Priests and Levites, 00:54:24.49\00:54:25.83 the temple services would not function. 00:54:25.86\00:54:27.30 The Priests and Levites were exclusively chosen 00:54:27.30\00:54:29.83 and anointed of God as His ministers. 00:54:29.86\00:54:32.80 The singers and the worship leaders 00:54:32.83\00:54:34.74 were also considered ministers. 00:54:34.77\00:54:37.57 And so whenever God anoints you to do something, 00:54:37.61\00:54:40.34 and I can't get to Hebrews 9, right now, 00:54:40.38\00:54:41.88 but I'll just summarize it by saying, 00:54:41.91\00:54:44.71 why was it vitally important? 00:54:44.75\00:54:46.41 The Levites and all the Priests 00:54:46.45\00:54:49.28 were a symbol of the true Christ. 00:54:49.32\00:54:51.25 And so here it is. Yes. 00:54:51.29\00:54:53.22 True worship takes us 00:54:53.25\00:54:54.92 from the symbolic to the substantial. 00:54:54.96\00:54:58.56 Never get locked into the symbolic. 00:54:58.59\00:54:59.96 That's right. 00:55:00.06\00:55:01.36 It always leads us to the substantial 00:55:01.40\00:55:02.73 who is Christ Himself. Amen. 00:55:02.76\00:55:04.43 Amen. Awesome. 00:55:04.47\00:55:06.23 Well, I appreciate each and every one 00:55:06.27\00:55:07.67 of you more, good input, 00:55:07.70\00:55:09.07 the Holy Spirit gives to each one. 00:55:09.10\00:55:10.84 It really makes the lesson come alive 00:55:10.91\00:55:13.07 and does something to our thinking, 00:55:13.11\00:55:14.91 we praise on the same thing to you. 00:55:14.94\00:55:16.48 We've got just a few minutes left. 00:55:16.51\00:55:17.85 And again, always we go back 00:55:17.88\00:55:19.41 and just get a final thought that the Holy Spirit 00:55:19.45\00:55:21.72 through listening to each other what the Holy Spirit 00:55:21.75\00:55:24.09 might have said to you? 00:55:24.12\00:55:25.82 I had Monday's talking about purity 00:55:25.85\00:55:28.36 and the importance of purity for worship. 00:55:28.39\00:55:30.56 I wanna read Revelation 21:3, 00:55:30.63\00:55:33.70 "I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, 00:55:33.73\00:55:35.70 'Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, 00:55:35.73\00:55:39.60 and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people.'" 00:55:39.63\00:55:44.47 So God wants to purify our hearts, 00:55:44.51\00:55:46.74 so that we can dwell with Him forever. 00:55:46.78\00:55:49.08 Amen. 00:55:49.11\00:55:50.61 Well, I like to say that far more than we do, 00:55:50.65\00:55:53.48 we really need to praise the Lord 00:55:53.52\00:55:55.38 and thank the Lord, 00:55:55.42\00:55:57.05 for the things He has done for us. 00:55:57.09\00:55:58.45 And I encourage you to take the time. 00:55:58.49\00:56:00.69 Yeah, there's a song, 00:56:00.72\00:56:02.06 Heritage Singers used to sing it, 00:56:02.09\00:56:04.46 where the person says, 00:56:04.49\00:56:06.03 "Lord, I'm just coming to thank You." 00:56:06.06\00:56:09.60 Yeah. 00:56:09.63\00:56:11.10 Tomorrow there may be sorrow, tomorrow there may be trials, 00:56:11.13\00:56:13.64 but I'm just coming to thank you. 00:56:13.67\00:56:15.84 Take your time to pray and just say, Lord, I just... 00:56:15.87\00:56:19.61 I'm not gonna ask for anything, 00:56:19.64\00:56:20.98 I'm just gonna thank You for this, and this, 00:56:21.01\00:56:22.34 and this, and this. 00:56:22.38\00:56:23.75 And I think you'll be blessed. 00:56:23.78\00:56:25.11 Amen. Amen. Amen. 00:56:25.15\00:56:26.48 Our Sabbath School quarterly asked an interesting question. 00:56:26.51\00:56:29.25 When we think that at the cross the creator 00:56:29.28\00:56:32.15 of all that is created, hung there, 00:56:32.19\00:56:34.06 dying for the sins of His creation, 00:56:34.09\00:56:36.59 what emotion do we first experience? 00:56:36.62\00:56:38.96 What role can and should joy play 00:56:38.99\00:56:42.83 in our experience of the cross? 00:56:42.86\00:56:45.27 And so, what we have to do is find that balance 00:56:45.30\00:56:49.20 between joy and reverence. 00:56:49.24\00:56:53.38 It's crucial to show the Lord that we adore Him, 00:56:53.44\00:56:58.28 that we praise Him and that we are worshiping 00:56:58.31\00:57:01.52 Him as our Creator. 00:57:01.55\00:57:03.02 But I do believe we need to smile. 00:57:03.05\00:57:06.49 That's right. Amen. Good. 00:57:06.52\00:57:08.22 And worship is a continual act in a holy life. 00:57:08.26\00:57:13.83 The NIV, Romans 12:1, "Therefore, I urge you, 00:57:13.86\00:57:16.70 brethren, in view of God's mercy, 00:57:16.77\00:57:18.40 to offer your bodies a living sacrifice, 00:57:18.43\00:57:21.37 holy and pleasing to God." 00:57:21.40\00:57:23.07 And listen to this. 00:57:23.10\00:57:24.74 "This is your spiritual act of worship." 00:57:24.77\00:57:26.98 That's right. Amen. 00:57:27.01\00:57:28.34 Praise the Lord. 00:57:28.38\00:57:29.71 I have one passage of scripture, 00:57:29.74\00:57:31.08 maybe we might get two of them, 00:57:31.11\00:57:32.45 I found in Book of Psalms 127:1, 00:57:32.48\00:57:35.15 it says, simply says, 00:57:35.18\00:57:36.52 "Except the Lord build the house, 00:57:36.55\00:57:38.62 they labor in vain that build it: 00:57:38.65\00:57:41.52 except the Lord keep the city." 00:57:41.56\00:57:43.93 What's going to happen? 00:57:43.96\00:57:45.29 "The watchman waketh but in vain." 00:57:45.33\00:57:47.73 You know what a good lesson, 00:57:47.76\00:57:49.06 we pray it's touched your heart, 00:57:49.10\00:57:50.43 touched your life. 00:57:50.47\00:57:51.80 And you know, really, 00:57:51.83\00:57:53.17 next week's lesson is really, really good 00:57:53.20\00:57:54.54 because we're gonna be talking about 00:57:54.57\00:57:55.90 not that we want to talk about it, 00:57:55.94\00:57:57.27 but we need to because we can learn from it. 00:57:57.31\00:57:58.64 It talks about the backsliding people 00:57:58.67\00:58:01.04 and God's gonna bless 00:58:01.08\00:58:02.41 so you make sure you tune in next week to join us here. 00:58:02.44\00:58:04.45 Thank you. We'll see you next time. 00:58:04.48\00:58:06.41
