Two different men,
but both called of God,

three different aspects here.

First, we're going to look
at preparation for the call,

then recognition of the call,

So let's look at the preparation

for the call first.

Why was Israel called?

for the call of God on his life?

He was a skilled scribe.

Third, and I think
this is was critical.

He was eager to go.

In fact, he
probably even asked to go.

Ezra 7:6,

it says, "The king granted him"

that's Ezra, "all his request,

according to the hand of
the Lord his God upon him."

So Ezra actually asked

and the king
granted him his request,

he was eager to go.

It's one thing to
be trained and skilled.

It's something
else entirely to say,

"Here am I, Lord, send me.

I'm ready to answer the
call of God on my life."

Another thing, Ezra had
firmly set his heart on God

to seek His face and His will.

Ezra 7:10, we reference
this in a previous lesson,

"For Ezra had prepared his heart

to seek the Law of
the Lord and do it,

and to teach statutes
and ordinances in Israel."

He had prepared his heart.

He had set his
heart firmly on God

to seek His face and His will.

And finally, Ezra was
willing to depend on God.

And he was willing to walk

with humility of
heart we see that,

him pouring out his heart
and prayer before the Lord,

him coming before
the Lord in humility,

seeking His
direction, seeking His guidance.

So why was Nehemiah called?

First, he was compassionate,
00:08:18.29\00:08:19.86
and he cared about
the needs of others.

We studied this last
week, Nehemiah 1:3-4.
00:08:22.40\00:08:26.20
When they came to
Nehemiah and said,
00:08:26.23\00:08:29.47
everything's in disrepair,
everything's in reproach,
00:08:29.50\00:08:33.24
the city walls are broken down
00:08:33.27\00:08:35.58
and the gates
are burned with fire.
00:08:35.61\00:08:37.65
He sat down and he
wept and mourned many days
00:08:37.68\00:08:41.45
and fasting and pray
to the God of heaven.
00:08:41.48\00:08:44.35
He could have said, "Okay, well,
00:08:44.39\00:08:46.02
those people are
over there in Jerusalem.
00:08:46.05\00:08:48.69
I'm in Babylon.
00:08:48.72\00:08:50.06
I don't care about
what they're going through.
00:08:50.13\00:08:52.06
I don't care about their needs."
00:08:52.09\00:08:53.70
But his heart was
moved with the need.
00:08:53.73\00:08:58.07
Second thing, he
was a man of prayer,
00:08:58.10\00:08:59.60
and we see this
throughout the book of Nehemiah,

that he poured out
his heart before the Lord
00:09:02.77\00:09:06.24
and he fasted and he prayed.
00:09:06.27\00:09:08.94
He didn't just say,
"Oh, sorry for the needs
00:09:08.98\00:09:11.95
and then he went on his way.
00:09:11.98\00:09:13.48
He was a man of prayer,
and he prayed for the burden
00:09:13.55\00:09:16.28
that God had put in his heart.
00:09:16.32\00:09:18.69
Third, he
identified with the problems
00:09:18.72\00:09:21.16
of his fellow believers,
and he interceded for them.
00:09:21.19\00:09:25.03
Nehemiah 1:6, he clearly says,

he confesses the
sins and then he says,
00:09:28.00\00:09:29.90
in which we have sinned,

he doesn't say those
people bow back in Jerusalem.

They're dealing
with some issues.

what they are going through.

And finally, he thought
to do something about it.

He prayed and said,

to the prayer of Your servant."

sit back and say God,

"You put a burden on my heart,

and I'm going to wait

until you call me to
do something about it."

"Okay, I'm still waiting.

Okay, I'm still waiting..."

No, he prayed and said,

"God, I want to do something

about the burden
you put on my heart.

And would you open up the
way so that I could go forward

and what you've
called me to do."

That is the preparation
for the call, recognition.

if you're called?

I think one of the keys,

is, what is your passion?

already put into your heart?

What is birthed in your heart?

What do you have a burden for?

Where would you
like to get involved?

People call the office
all the time, Pastor Kenny...

Yes. They say, God has...

This is a great thing.

And 3ABN needs to
be involved in this,

and this is a powerful ministry.

And I say, "Well, if the Lord
put that burden in your heart,

that you're the one

who's supposed to
walk in that out by faith.

God puts a passion in our heart,
00:10:52.25\00:10:54.98
many times for
something He's calling us to do.

Also, what do people
confirm in your life?

You know, other people
can speak into your heart

and say, you know what,
have you considered this?

God has really put a
call in your life for this

or a gifting in your
heart for this specific area.

Now in this area of recognition,

we have to be willing to wait.

Nehemiah waited four months
between the call in Nehemiah 1,

and when he actually saw
the fulfillment in Nehemiah 2,

we have to have
that willingness to wait.

Also a willingness
to ask God for His will.

We can wait on God but
then we need to anxiously

king asked him his request,

and ask for what you
believe is God's will.

Now this is transformational
for me in my own life,

Nehemiah 2:5, Nehemiah
said, "If it pleases the king,

I ask that you
send me to Judah."

Sometimes, we think God
puts a passion in our heart,

other people
confirm that passion.

And then I'm going to
sit back and wait for God

to open up the door.

But sometimes,

God wants us to step out

and what we believe

He's asking and
calling us to do.

Ezra did the same thing.

granted him all his request,

according to the hand of

So the preparation for the call,
