The Bible tells us, 00:00:01.36\00:00:02.70 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, 00:00:02.73\00:00:05.23 and the Word was God." 00:00:05.27\00:00:07.57 It says to, "Receive with meekness 00:00:07.60\00:00:09.87 the implanted Word, 00:00:09.90\00:00:11.37 which is able to save your souls. 00:00:11.41\00:00:13.74 And to be diligent 00:00:13.78\00:00:15.11 to present yourself approved to God, 00:00:15.14\00:00:17.65 rightly dividing the Word of truth." 00:00:17.68\00:00:20.58 Join us now for the 3ABN Sabbath School Panel. 00:00:20.62\00:00:25.05 Our study today is, "The Least of These." 00:00:25.09\00:00:30.99 Hello, I'm Shelley Quinn, 00:00:31.03\00:00:32.36 and we welcome you once again to 3ABN Sabbath School panel. 00:00:32.39\00:00:36.23 We're excited that you join us to study. 00:00:36.26\00:00:38.77 We hope that you have a lesson, 00:00:38.80\00:00:41.77 and a Bible, and a pencil and paper. 00:00:41.80\00:00:44.54 And in case you don't have the lesson, 00:00:44.57\00:00:47.84 let me tell you how you can get it. 00:00:47.88\00:00:50.41 You can go to ABSG.Adventist.org 00:00:50.45\00:00:56.52 and download lesson or you can drop by 00:00:56.55\00:01:00.12 your nearest Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:01:00.16\00:01:02.42 they'll be happy to give you a quarterly 00:01:02.46\00:01:04.33 and will most likely invite you to come in 00:01:04.36\00:01:07.96 and study personally with them. 00:01:08.00\00:01:10.70 Our quarter, 00:01:10.73\00:01:12.07 what we are studying this quarter is called 00:01:12.10\00:01:16.04 "The Least of These," ministering to those in need. 00:01:16.07\00:01:19.74 And obviously, you know, this could have been called, 00:01:19.77\00:01:22.88 we could have used Cain's quote, 00:01:22.91\00:01:24.31 Am I my brother's keeper? 00:01:24.35\00:01:26.11 But instead it's using a quote 00:01:26.15\00:01:27.75 from Jesus Christ in Matthew 25:40, 00:01:27.78\00:01:30.39 where He was saying, you know, 00:01:30.42\00:01:33.05 "I was hungry, you fed me. 00:01:33.09\00:01:34.72 I was thirsty, you gave me to drink. 00:01:34.76\00:01:37.03 I was sick and imprisoned, you came to visit me." 00:01:37.06\00:01:40.06 And they said, "When Lord?" 00:01:40.10\00:01:42.73 He said, "If you do it to the least of these, 00:01:42.76\00:01:46.77 you have done it to Me." 00:01:46.80\00:01:48.30 So let me introduce our panel, 00:01:48.34\00:01:51.01 all my brothers and sisters in Christ, 00:01:51.04\00:01:53.61 people I dearly loved. 00:01:53.64\00:01:55.48 We have with us Pastor Ryan Day. 00:01:55.51\00:01:58.21 Ryan, we're so glad you're part of the team. 00:01:58.25\00:02:00.12 It's always a blessing to be here. 00:02:00.15\00:02:02.12 Then we had my precious pastor 00:02:02.15\00:02:04.45 of the Thompsonville Seventh-day Adventist Church, 00:02:04.49\00:02:07.72 Pastor John Lomacang. 00:02:07.76\00:02:09.12 It's always a joy 00:02:09.16\00:02:10.49 to study the Word of God together, 00:02:10.53\00:02:11.86 especially with this team. 00:02:11.89\00:02:13.43 Well, we feel the same way. 00:02:13.46\00:02:15.53 And then my dear precious sister, 00:02:15.56\00:02:17.30 Jill Morikone. 00:02:17.33\00:02:18.70 It's a privilege to be here and open up God's Word. 00:02:18.73\00:02:20.87 Thank you. 00:02:20.90\00:02:22.24 And then my bestie, mommy aunt. 00:02:22.27\00:02:24.97 BFF. 00:02:25.01\00:02:26.34 Mollie Sue Steenson, we're so glad to have you back. 00:02:26.37\00:02:28.98 Well, it's a joy to be here. 00:02:29.01\00:02:30.51 Well, it's a joy to study with each and every one of you. 00:02:30.55\00:02:34.05 Before we begin, I would like for who has, we'll see... 00:02:34.08\00:02:39.25 Ryan, why don't you open with prayer 00:02:39.29\00:02:41.19 because we need the Lord. 00:02:41.22\00:02:42.56 Absolutely. 00:02:42.59\00:02:44.49 Father in Heaven, 00:02:44.53\00:02:45.89 Lord, we first want to just take this time 00:02:45.93\00:02:47.96 to uplift You and to praise You for being our God, 00:02:48.00\00:02:51.77 because You are worthy. 00:02:51.80\00:02:53.84 Lord, at this time as we open Your Word, again, 00:02:53.87\00:02:56.44 Lord, we just ask for Your Holy Spirit. 00:02:56.47\00:02:59.17 Each and every word that flows from our mouth 00:02:59.21\00:03:01.81 and every thought that is shared here today, 00:03:01.84\00:03:04.65 I pray God that it is in harmony 00:03:04.68\00:03:06.15 with Your Word, and Your will. 00:03:06.18\00:03:08.55 And that each and every person listening or participating 00:03:08.58\00:03:11.25 in this particular program, 00:03:11.29\00:03:12.62 I pray that we will all be blessed 00:03:12.65\00:03:14.62 and drawn ever closer 00:03:14.66\00:03:15.99 to our blessed Savior Jesus Christ. 00:03:16.02\00:03:18.93 And we thank You for Jesus Christ 00:03:18.96\00:03:20.43 and the sacrifice that He gave for us, 00:03:20.46\00:03:21.96 for none of us would be here without Him. 00:03:22.00\00:03:24.10 We praise You, O Father, 00:03:24.13\00:03:25.47 and we thank You for again this wonderful opportunity, 00:03:25.50\00:03:28.54 and we ask these things in Jesus' name, amen. 00:03:28.57\00:03:31.07 Amen. Amen. 00:03:31.11\00:03:32.44 Thank you for that beautiful prayer. 00:03:32.47\00:03:34.14 Well, we are on lesson 4, 00:03:34.18\00:03:35.94 and this is Mercy and Justice 00:03:35.98\00:03:38.35 in the Psalms and in the Proverbs. 00:03:38.38\00:03:41.42 And we see that the Book of Psalms, 00:03:41.45\00:03:43.79 these are hymns, lament songs of Thanksgiving, 00:03:43.82\00:03:47.86 royal psalms, enthronement psalms, 00:03:47.89\00:03:51.03 penitential psalms, 00:03:51.06\00:03:52.73 and in the wisdom or didactic psalms. 00:03:52.76\00:03:57.07 The Book of Proverbs 00:03:57.10\00:03:59.30 basically gives us a godly worldview. 00:03:59.33\00:04:03.30 It leads us into the wisdom of God. 00:04:03.34\00:04:07.01 And when you're looking at Proverbs, 00:04:07.04\00:04:09.28 I always say Proverbs 1:7 is the perspective 00:04:09.31\00:04:14.05 for understanding all of the Proverbs. 00:04:14.08\00:04:16.52 And here's what it says, 00:04:16.55\00:04:18.25 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, 00:04:18.29\00:04:22.59 fools despise wisdom and instruction." 00:04:22.62\00:04:25.76 So everything in the Proverbs is about knowing how to revere. 00:04:25.79\00:04:31.13 And that's what that word fear 00:04:31.17\00:04:32.63 is to respect to hope God in all. 00:04:32.67\00:04:35.60 The fear of the Lord is a biblical shorthand, 00:04:35.64\00:04:39.07 if you will, 00:04:39.11\00:04:40.44 for living a life of love in God, 00:04:40.48\00:04:43.61 walking in obedience, 00:04:43.65\00:04:45.58 and worshipping the Lord. 00:04:45.61\00:04:48.15 Our memory text for this lesson 4 00:04:48.18\00:04:51.69 is Psalm 82:3-4. 00:04:51.72\00:04:55.66 And it says, 00:04:55.69\00:04:57.16 "Defend the poor and the fatherless. 00:04:57.19\00:05:00.43 Do justice to the afflicted, and needy. 00:05:00.46\00:05:04.27 Deliver the poor and needy. 00:05:04.30\00:05:06.20 Free them from the hand of the wicked." 00:05:06.23\00:05:11.24 When we look at our world today, 00:05:11.27\00:05:14.54 the world is permeated by injustice, is it not? 00:05:14.58\00:05:17.81 We see so many people being oppressed, 00:05:17.85\00:05:20.38 people in the church, people out of the church. 00:05:20.42\00:05:24.12 But God is still the hope of all nations. 00:05:24.15\00:05:27.26 He is the hope of all people. 00:05:27.29\00:05:29.39 And what this quarterly is doing is showing us 00:05:29.42\00:05:32.59 what true religion is, 00:05:32.63\00:05:34.56 and that is to defend the poor, and the followers. 00:05:34.60\00:05:38.23 So what we hope 00:05:38.27\00:05:39.73 that you'll find in this quarterly 00:05:39.77\00:05:42.17 is inspiration to overcome our own self-centered nature 00:05:42.20\00:05:47.94 and to take care of others. 00:05:47.98\00:05:49.78 So let's look at Sunday. 00:05:49.81\00:05:52.95 And in Sunday's lesson, 00:05:52.98\00:05:54.68 this is "Songs of Hope for the Oppressed." 00:05:54.72\00:05:58.85 I'm going to read a couple of paragraph 00:05:58.89\00:06:00.62 straight from the quarterly, 00:06:00.66\00:06:02.22 'cause I think this was written so beautifully. 00:06:02.26\00:06:05.09 It says, "As we've already noted, 00:06:05.13\00:06:06.70 God sees and hears people who are in distress in trouble. 00:06:06.73\00:06:11.50 Most often in the Psalms we hear those cries 00:06:11.53\00:06:14.20 from people who have trusted in God, 00:06:14.24\00:06:16.74 but are not seeing justice done. 00:06:16.77\00:06:19.47 The affirmations of the goodness, 00:06:19.51\00:06:21.18 justice and power of God 00:06:21.21\00:06:23.21 can seem overwhelmed 00:06:23.24\00:06:26.61 by the injustice and oppression that the voices 00:06:26.65\00:06:30.29 in these songs experience or observed. 00:06:30.32\00:06:34.12 Yet," and here's what I love, 00:06:34.16\00:06:37.13 "these are the songs of those who are still singing, 00:06:37.16\00:06:41.40 neither their life nor their faith 00:06:41.43\00:06:43.90 has been quenched. 00:06:43.93\00:06:45.40 There is still hope. 00:06:45.43\00:06:47.54 And the urgency is for God to act before it is too late, 00:06:47.57\00:06:51.64 before evil triumphs, 00:06:51.67\00:06:53.81 before the oppressed are destroyed 00:06:53.84\00:06:56.11 by the way that the evil brought against them. 00:06:56.14\00:06:58.35 And in this way, 00:06:58.38\00:06:59.71 the writers of the Psalms try to bridge the gap 00:06:59.75\00:07:02.65 between the affirmations of their faith, and the trials, 00:07:02.68\00:07:05.89 and tragedies of life." 00:07:05.92\00:07:07.86 Ain't that beautiful? 00:07:07.89\00:07:09.22 All right, let's look at Psalm Chapter 9, 00:07:09.26\00:07:13.76 and I'm going to ask a few of you 00:07:13.80\00:07:15.13 to read if you will. 00:07:15.16\00:07:16.50 Psalm Chapter 9, and let's start with verse 10. 00:07:16.53\00:07:22.90 Jill, do you have that? 00:07:22.94\00:07:24.27 Sure. Excuse me. 00:07:24.31\00:07:25.64 Start with verse 7, 7 to 9 if you will. 00:07:25.67\00:07:27.01 Psalm 9:7-9. 00:07:27.04\00:07:28.38 "But the Lord shall endure forever. 00:07:28.41\00:07:30.38 He has prepared His throne for judgment. 00:07:30.41\00:07:32.61 He shall judge the world in righteousness, 00:07:32.65\00:07:35.32 and He shall administer judgment 00:07:35.35\00:07:36.95 for the peoples in uprightness. 00:07:36.99\00:07:39.42 The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, 00:07:39.45\00:07:42.16 a refuge in times of trouble." 00:07:42.19\00:07:44.69 So the Lord there 00:07:44.73\00:07:46.36 that is the covenant name for God, 00:07:46.39\00:07:49.86 that is Yahweh or Jehovah, as we might pronounce it. 00:07:49.90\00:07:53.60 And he's saying, 00:07:53.64\00:07:54.97 "Our covenant God is still on the throne. 00:07:55.00\00:07:57.84 He is judging the world." 00:07:57.87\00:07:59.97 Even though judgment doesn't come, 00:08:00.01\00:08:01.94 final judgment till the end of the world, 00:08:01.98\00:08:04.38 God is judging the earth even now. 00:08:04.41\00:08:07.48 He executes justice for the oppressed 00:08:07.52\00:08:10.99 and offers protection from the wicked. 00:08:11.02\00:08:13.99 Now, Mollie, would you read verse 10. 00:08:14.02\00:08:16.73 Verse 10? Psalm 9:10. 00:08:16.76\00:08:19.56 "And those who know Your name will put their trust in You. 00:08:19.59\00:08:24.27 For," pardon me, "for You, Lord, 00:08:24.30\00:08:26.33 have not forsaken those who seek You." 00:08:26.37\00:08:28.57 So to know God is to be connected to God 00:08:28.60\00:08:32.17 in an intimate and loving relationship. 00:08:32.21\00:08:34.98 And we can always look to God in our time of need 00:08:35.01\00:08:38.31 and depend upon Him as our vindicator. 00:08:38.35\00:08:41.28 So the whole point of this psalm 00:08:41.32\00:08:43.32 is that we have to trust God 00:08:43.35\00:08:45.52 to uphold our cause and not get down in the mouth 00:08:45.55\00:08:49.56 was filled with hatred for others or self pity, 00:08:49.59\00:08:53.19 when we're falsely accused, 00:08:53.23\00:08:54.66 maybe were ignored or underappreciated, 00:08:54.70\00:08:57.87 we trust God for the perfect timing 00:08:57.90\00:09:00.97 of our reward. 00:09:01.00\00:09:02.34 Now, let's look at verse 13. 00:09:02.37\00:09:05.44 Psalm 9:13-20. 00:09:05.47\00:09:08.51 John, you want to do that? Sure. 00:09:08.54\00:09:10.41 "Have mercy on me, O Lord! 00:09:10.45\00:09:12.18 Consider my trouble from those who hate me, 00:09:12.21\00:09:15.88 You who lift me up from the gates of death, 00:09:15.92\00:09:18.79 That I may tell of all Your praise, 00:09:18.82\00:09:21.09 in the gates of the daughter of Zion. 00:09:21.12\00:09:23.36 I will rejoice in Your salvation. 00:09:23.39\00:09:25.83 The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made. 00:09:25.86\00:09:30.10 In the net which they hid, their own foot is caught. 00:09:30.13\00:09:34.04 The Lord is known by the judgment He executes. 00:09:34.07\00:09:37.34 The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. 00:09:37.37\00:09:40.74 Meditation. Selah. 00:09:40.78\00:09:43.14 The wicked shall be turned into hell, 00:09:43.18\00:09:45.55 and all the nations that forget God..." 00:09:45.58\00:09:47.52 Now, pause for just a second. 00:09:47.55\00:09:48.88 Cover one point, this is a great word play 00:09:48.92\00:09:51.15 on the word forget, 00:09:51.19\00:09:52.52 because hell there is literally shield the place 00:09:52.55\00:09:56.86 of the grave where they are forgotten. 00:09:56.89\00:09:59.33 So if you've forget God, 00:09:59.36\00:10:00.80 you're going to be in the grave and you're forgotten. 00:10:00.83\00:10:02.53 Okay. 00:10:02.56\00:10:03.97 "For the needy shall not always be forgotten. 00:10:04.00\00:10:06.47 The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever. 00:10:06.50\00:10:09.44 Arise, O Lord, Do not let man prevail. 00:10:09.47\00:10:12.04 Let the nations be judged in Your sight. 00:10:12.07\00:10:14.64 Put them in fear, O Lord, 00:10:14.68\00:10:16.71 that the nations may know themselves 00:10:16.75\00:10:19.41 to be but men. 00:10:19.45\00:10:21.35 Selah." 00:10:21.38\00:10:22.72 So what he's saying here is God will rise up. 00:10:22.75\00:10:26.15 And He's going to put, when he said, 00:10:26.19\00:10:27.56 "Put them in fear," 00:10:27.59\00:10:28.92 this isn't the fear of the Lord 00:10:28.96\00:10:30.69 that we experience as His people. 00:10:30.73\00:10:33.86 The fear of the Lord 00:10:33.90\00:10:35.23 that we experience as His people, 00:10:35.26\00:10:37.53 is, as I said, 00:10:37.57\00:10:38.90 the appreciation for God or respect in awe, 00:10:38.93\00:10:42.24 but what he's saying is, 00:10:42.27\00:10:43.71 Lord, track the evil ones with terror. 00:10:43.74\00:10:47.68 They're rebelling, 00:10:47.71\00:10:49.04 the wicked are rebelling against your authority. 00:10:49.08\00:10:51.48 They're plotting evil for others. 00:10:51.51\00:10:54.02 So he's saying, 00:10:54.05\00:10:55.38 "Lord, let them suffer the fate 00:10:55.42\00:10:57.49 that they had planned for the others." 00:10:57.52\00:10:59.72 And you know, we find this. 00:10:59.75\00:11:01.56 And, Mollie, would you turn to Proverbs 26:27? 00:11:01.59\00:11:04.89 Because we find this theme throughout the Bible 00:11:04.93\00:11:09.53 that the wicked are plotting against others, 00:11:09.56\00:11:13.57 and God turns it around on them. 00:11:13.60\00:11:15.90 Mollie, Proverbs 26:27. 00:11:15.94\00:11:18.51 "Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, 00:11:18.54\00:11:22.01 and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him." 00:11:22.04\00:11:26.21 So people may think they're getting away 00:11:26.25\00:11:28.12 when they are spreading rumors, 00:11:28.15\00:11:29.82 when they are doing evil things, 00:11:29.85\00:11:31.65 and trying to bring other people down. 00:11:31.69\00:11:33.76 But God says, "Hey, you're digging a pit?" 00:11:33.79\00:11:36.62 Well, the God of justice is going to remember 00:11:36.66\00:11:39.09 who you're trying to persecute, 00:11:39.13\00:11:41.56 and He's going to turn it around on you. 00:11:41.60\00:11:43.97 So the future is bright for the oppressed. 00:11:44.00\00:11:47.30 God promises, He's not going to forget us. 00:11:47.34\00:11:50.37 And we can count on that 00:11:50.41\00:11:52.17 because He is the champion of the weak. 00:11:52.21\00:11:56.08 So David in this psalm 00:11:56.11\00:11:58.41 is calling on God to bring justice 00:11:58.45\00:12:03.12 so that it brings glory and honor to the Lord's name. 00:12:03.15\00:12:07.29 The tension here, we see throughout the psalms, 00:12:07.32\00:12:10.83 there's a tension 00:12:10.86\00:12:12.19 between David's faith and in God's goodness 00:12:12.23\00:12:15.80 and the circumstances that he faces. 00:12:15.83\00:12:18.60 But the repeated answer to this tension 00:12:18.63\00:12:22.07 throughout the psalms is the hope and promise 00:12:22.10\00:12:25.04 of God's good and just judgment. 00:12:25.07\00:12:27.38 So evil may seem to triumph right now, 00:12:27.41\00:12:30.65 but guess what? 00:12:30.68\00:12:32.01 God's still in charge. 00:12:32.05\00:12:34.45 And here's what I wanted to read one more thing from... 00:12:34.48\00:12:37.99 I thought this was interesting. 00:12:38.02\00:12:39.59 This is a quote from our quarterly. 00:12:39.62\00:12:42.89 It says, "In reflections on the psalms, 00:12:42.92\00:12:45.49 CS Lewis describes his initial surprise 00:12:45.53\00:12:48.36 at the excitement and longing for God's judgment, 00:12:48.40\00:12:51.33 as expressed repeatedly in the psalms. 00:12:51.37\00:12:54.24 Observing that many Bible readers today 00:12:54.27\00:12:56.44 considered judgment, something to be feared. 00:12:56.47\00:12:59.44 He considers the original Jewish perspective and rights. 00:12:59.47\00:13:04.48 Thousands of people who've been stripped 00:13:04.51\00:13:06.01 of all they possess 00:13:06.05\00:13:07.62 and who have the right entirely on their side 00:13:07.65\00:13:10.85 will at last be heard." 00:13:10.89\00:13:12.65 Of course, they are not afraid of judgment. 00:13:12.69\00:13:15.96 They know right now their case is an unanswerable, 00:13:15.99\00:13:19.33 but if only it could be heard 00:13:19.36\00:13:21.36 when God comes to judge at last it will. 00:13:21.40\00:13:24.90 Amen. Praise the Lord. 00:13:24.93\00:13:27.57 "Do something God." 00:13:27.60\00:13:29.07 Amen. 00:13:29.10\00:13:31.17 That's the title of Monday's lesson, 00:13:31.21\00:13:32.91 "Do something God." 00:13:32.94\00:13:35.08 I think all of us have felt that way 00:13:35.11\00:13:36.64 at some point, you know. 00:13:36.68\00:13:38.01 I know that many times in my life, 00:13:38.05\00:13:39.45 I just, you know, 00:13:39.48\00:13:41.92 in kind of our humanistic mindset 00:13:41.95\00:13:44.62 and our kind of a carnal mindset, 00:13:44.65\00:13:46.15 sometimes we want something done 00:13:46.19\00:13:48.32 then and there, and we want a response, 00:13:48.36\00:13:50.49 we want judgment, we want justice. 00:13:50.53\00:13:52.39 And I found myself many times in life 00:13:52.43\00:13:54.70 crying out, "Lord, where are you? 00:13:54.73\00:13:56.97 Please show up and do something." 00:13:57.00\00:13:58.90 And so this is what we find happening 00:13:58.93\00:14:01.07 in this particular lesson. 00:14:01.10\00:14:04.77 I'm not going to spend much time 00:14:04.81\00:14:06.98 in a lot of different portions of scripture, 00:14:07.01\00:14:09.61 because the foundation of this particular lesson 00:14:09.64\00:14:12.38 is actually spent mostly in Psalm 82. 00:14:12.41\00:14:14.85 Now, if you read the lesson, you'll notice 00:14:14.88\00:14:16.55 that's the bulk of the scripture 00:14:16.58\00:14:18.25 that shared there, 00:14:18.29\00:14:19.62 but I have just a few texts 00:14:19.65\00:14:20.99 that I'm going to share throughout this lesson, 00:14:21.02\00:14:22.36 but primarily staying in Psalm 82. 00:14:22.39\00:14:24.63 I want to just read through Psalm 82. 00:14:24.66\00:14:26.26 It's not a very long psalm. 00:14:26.29\00:14:28.70 It's only eight verses, but I want to read through it 00:14:28.73\00:14:30.67 and then just kind of go back 00:14:30.70\00:14:32.03 and just pick this apart to see exactly what it is 00:14:32.07\00:14:34.24 that God is sharing with us through this inspired writing. 00:14:34.27\00:14:38.21 So Psalm 82:1-8. 00:14:38.24\00:14:41.28 Notice what the Bible says, 00:14:41.31\00:14:43.45 "God stands in the congregation of the mighty. 00:14:43.48\00:14:47.72 He judges among the gods." 00:14:47.75\00:14:50.79 Little g. 00:14:50.82\00:14:52.15 Okay, so notice that's a little g there, 00:14:52.19\00:14:54.19 and we'll come back to that in a moment. 00:14:54.22\00:14:55.86 How long will you judge unjustly, 00:14:55.89\00:14:58.33 and show partiality to the wicked? 00:14:58.36\00:15:00.86 Selah. 00:15:00.90\00:15:02.23 Defend the poor and fatherless. 00:15:02.26\00:15:04.73 Do justice to the afflicted and needy. 00:15:04.77\00:15:08.50 Deliver the poor and needy 00:15:08.54\00:15:10.27 freedom from the hand of the wicked. 00:15:10.31\00:15:13.48 They do not know, nor do they understand. 00:15:13.51\00:15:16.14 They walk about in darkness. 00:15:16.18\00:15:19.35 All the foundations of the earth are unstable. 00:15:19.38\00:15:23.35 I said, 'You are gods, 00:15:23.39\00:15:25.69 and all of you are children of the Most High. 00:15:25.72\00:15:28.92 But you shall die like men, 00:15:28.96\00:15:31.23 and fall like one of the princes.' 00:15:31.26\00:15:33.90 Arise, O God, judge the earth. 00:15:33.93\00:15:37.37 For You shall inherit all the nations.'" 00:15:37.40\00:15:41.04 And so you can see 00:15:41.07\00:15:42.40 that the writer of this particular psalm 00:15:42.44\00:15:43.77 is just crying out 00:15:43.81\00:15:45.71 to this injustice that it's occurring. 00:15:45.74\00:15:47.88 But yet at the same time, 00:15:47.91\00:15:49.68 he recognizes in that closing verse, 00:15:49.71\00:15:51.61 which we're going to highlight in the moment 00:15:51.65\00:15:53.18 that he is calling out for God 00:15:53.21\00:15:54.98 to be the great judge that He is. 00:15:55.02\00:15:56.99 I want to go back to verse 1 00:15:57.02\00:15:58.35 and just kind of highlight a few things, 00:15:58.39\00:15:59.72 as we go back through this, and show you 00:15:59.75\00:16:01.82 just how powerful this really is 00:16:01.86\00:16:03.32 in reference to the topic that we're discussing. 00:16:03.36\00:16:05.19 So verse 1, 00:16:05.23\00:16:06.56 God stands in the congregation of the mighty, 00:16:06.59\00:16:09.26 He judges among the gods. 00:16:09.30\00:16:12.00 So God's supreme presidency and power 00:16:12.03\00:16:14.74 in all councils and courts asserted 00:16:14.77\00:16:17.41 and laid down here in this particular passage. 00:16:17.44\00:16:20.28 In this particular verse, it's being established here. 00:16:20.31\00:16:24.41 It is established that the great truth is necessary 00:16:24.45\00:16:27.42 to be believed by the kings, princes, 00:16:27.45\00:16:29.62 presidents, judges, and magistrates of all kind. 00:16:29.65\00:16:32.25 So basically, 00:16:32.29\00:16:33.99 any person who's been given the responsibility to judge, 00:16:34.02\00:16:36.89 been given that honor to be represented in that way, 00:16:36.93\00:16:39.49 they have to recognize first and foremost 00:16:39.53\00:16:41.26 and be humble that, of course, God is the almighty judge. 00:16:41.30\00:16:45.07 And so that's very, very important. 00:16:45.10\00:16:47.14 We see that God is standing here as the chief director, 00:16:47.17\00:16:50.14 the almighty, righteous judge, as He is indeed. 00:16:50.17\00:16:54.44 And, of course, notice this, when I first read this, 00:16:54.48\00:16:57.88 he judges among the gods, 00:16:57.91\00:16:59.48 some people might read that 00:16:59.51\00:17:00.85 and think, "What does that mean? 00:17:00.88\00:17:02.22 What is he communicating there?" 00:17:02.25\00:17:03.59 Like the angels, okay, 00:17:03.62\00:17:04.95 notice this in scripture, like the angels 00:17:04.99\00:17:06.32 and other subordinate figures of scripture, 00:17:06.35\00:17:08.19 God refers to those given the responsibility of judgment 00:17:08.22\00:17:12.49 as little gods. 00:17:12.53\00:17:13.86 In fact, the actual word here, the Hebrew dialect is Elohim. 00:17:13.90\00:17:18.47 And so it's in the, obviously in the subordinate sense 00:17:18.50\00:17:22.34 that like God, notice this, 00:17:22.37\00:17:24.57 good judges and magistrates are to exercise their duties 00:17:24.61\00:17:29.14 and responsibilities with the honor 00:17:29.18\00:17:32.11 God has placed upon them. 00:17:32.15\00:17:34.22 They are His vicegerents 00:17:34.25\00:17:36.02 and meant to be a great blessing to the people. 00:17:36.05\00:17:39.99 And I'm thinking of another text 00:17:40.02\00:17:42.19 that comes to mind, it's Proverbs 16:10, 00:17:42.22\00:17:45.59 which says, 00:17:45.63\00:17:46.96 "Divination is on the lips of the king. 00:17:47.00\00:17:49.60 His mouth must not transgress in judgment." 00:17:49.63\00:17:53.27 So there is a high responsibility 00:17:53.30\00:17:54.97 and that is very clearly communicating 00:17:55.00\00:17:56.57 in the open verse. 00:17:56.60\00:17:57.94 But then we get on to verse 2, 00:17:57.97\00:17:59.44 and it's almost like this particular 00:17:59.47\00:18:01.68 the writer here, the author, 00:18:01.71\00:18:03.04 he's calling out these wicked judges. 00:18:03.08\00:18:05.08 Notice what it says in verse 2. 00:18:05.11\00:18:06.88 "How long will you judge unjustly, 00:18:06.92\00:18:09.75 and show partiality to the wicked?" 00:18:09.78\00:18:13.12 So right here in this particular verse, 00:18:13.15\00:18:14.96 it is indirectly stated 00:18:14.99\00:18:16.32 that the magistrate had been unjust and corrupt. 00:18:16.36\00:18:20.03 And they not only excused the wicked, 00:18:20.06\00:18:24.27 but even decided in their favor 00:18:24.30\00:18:25.93 against the righteous in many cases. 00:18:25.97\00:18:28.77 And so it's interesting that this particular verse 00:18:28.80\00:18:30.57 also ends with a 'Selah.' 00:18:30.61\00:18:32.14 Almost as if there's a pause here, 00:18:32.17\00:18:34.58 'cause it's a question and it's almost like the author 00:18:34.61\00:18:37.61 is indeed looking for a response. 00:18:37.65\00:18:39.71 How long is this going to happen? 00:18:39.75\00:18:41.48 How long are you going to show partiality 00:18:41.52\00:18:43.02 to the wicked? 00:18:43.05\00:18:44.39 Almost like there is a response here. 00:18:44.42\00:18:45.75 Again, Proverbs 28:15, another great text 00:18:45.79\00:18:49.49 that highlights this particular issue. 00:18:49.52\00:18:52.09 Proverbs 28:15, says, 00:18:52.13\00:18:54.03 "Like a roaring lion and a charging bear 00:18:54.06\00:18:57.57 is a wicked ruler over poor people." 00:18:57.60\00:19:01.77 Very much a truth indeed. 00:19:01.80\00:19:03.41 Then we go into verse 3-4. 00:19:03.44\00:19:06.44 "Defend the poor and fatherless. 00:19:06.47\00:19:09.88 Do justice to the afflicted and needy." 00:19:09.91\00:19:13.08 This was our memory text, I believe. 00:19:13.11\00:19:15.35 "Deliver the poor and needy 00:19:15.38\00:19:17.42 freedom from the hand of the wicked." 00:19:17.45\00:19:20.42 So right here in this particular verse, 00:19:20.46\00:19:21.82 the charge is given to all magistrates 00:19:21.86\00:19:24.09 to do good with their power, and they will answer to him 00:19:24.13\00:19:28.16 by whom they are entrusted with it, okay? 00:19:28.20\00:19:30.87 They are to be the protectors of those 00:19:30.90\00:19:32.83 who lie exposed to injury 00:19:32.87\00:19:35.20 and the patrons of those who want advice and assistance. 00:19:35.24\00:19:38.21 And, of course, they are to go on 00:19:38.24\00:19:39.57 to defend people 00:19:39.61\00:19:40.94 like the poor who have no money, 00:19:40.98\00:19:42.31 where with to make friends or to fee counsel, 00:19:42.34\00:19:44.65 and of course, and to the fatherless as well, 00:19:44.68\00:19:47.62 who while they are young and unable to help themselves. 00:19:47.65\00:19:50.49 We know they have lost those 00:19:50.52\00:19:51.92 who would have been the guides of their youth, 00:19:51.95\00:19:54.32 and so we are to help these particular individuals. 00:19:54.36\00:19:56.46 We are counseled through this psalm 00:19:56.49\00:19:58.09 to do that, indeed. 00:19:58.13\00:19:59.46 We are to follow the example of Job. 00:19:59.49\00:20:00.86 In Job 29:12, the Bible says this, 00:20:00.90\00:20:04.80 "Because I delivered the poor who cried out, 00:20:04.83\00:20:07.84 the fatherless and the one who had no helper." 00:20:07.87\00:20:11.67 Job, we're told as a righteous man, 00:20:11.71\00:20:13.38 he was perfect in the eyes of God. 00:20:13.41\00:20:15.08 And he indeed followed in the example. 00:20:15.11\00:20:17.81 Verse 5, again, much like verse 2, 00:20:17.85\00:20:19.95 we see there is a charge drawn up 00:20:19.98\00:20:22.42 against bad magistrates, 00:20:22.45\00:20:24.89 who neglected their duty and abused their power 00:20:24.92\00:20:27.42 for getting that God stands among them. 00:20:27.46\00:20:29.42 So notice what verse 5 says here, 00:20:29.46\00:20:30.83 "They do not know, nor do they understand. 00:20:30.86\00:20:34.36 They walk about in darkness. 00:20:34.40\00:20:37.13 All the foundations of the earth are unstable." 00:20:37.17\00:20:40.74 Okay? 00:20:40.77\00:20:42.10 And this particular point here 00:20:42.14\00:20:44.04 reminds me of a text in Ecclesiastes 3:16-17. 00:20:44.07\00:20:48.21 Notice what Solomon writes here, 00:20:48.24\00:20:51.11 "Moreover, I saw under the sun, 00:20:51.15\00:20:53.65 in the place of judgment, wickedness was there, 00:20:53.68\00:20:56.45 and in the place of righteousness, 00:20:56.48\00:20:58.32 iniquity was there." 00:20:58.35\00:20:59.69 So all of this radical misjudgment 00:20:59.72\00:21:03.66 and exercising the misapplication 00:21:03.69\00:21:07.10 of misuse and abuse of power 00:21:07.13\00:21:09.46 is due to iniquity, 00:21:09.50\00:21:10.83 we just want to highlight that very clearly. 00:21:10.87\00:21:12.70 And it kind of just points me back 00:21:12.73\00:21:14.07 to one of the previous lessons, 00:21:14.10\00:21:15.80 that when we pay attention to the law of God, 00:21:15.84\00:21:18.64 not in the sense that it saves us, 00:21:18.67\00:21:20.14 but that it points out our sin. 00:21:20.18\00:21:21.51 When we pay attention 00:21:21.54\00:21:22.88 to the righteous character of God, 00:21:22.91\00:21:24.25 then we see our self and we see those flaws within us. 00:21:24.28\00:21:28.05 And so obviously, these individuals 00:21:28.08\00:21:29.68 who are misusing and abusing the power 00:21:29.72\00:21:31.75 that God has bestowed upon them, 00:21:31.79\00:21:33.12 they are living a life of iniquity. 00:21:33.15\00:21:34.89 They are not living a righteous life in Christ. 00:21:34.92\00:21:37.73 Ecclesiastes 3:17 goes on to say, 00:21:37.76\00:21:39.89 "I said in my heart, 00:21:39.93\00:21:41.26 'God shall judge the righteous and the wicked, 00:21:41.30\00:21:43.50 for there is a time there 00:21:43.53\00:21:45.83 for every purpose and for every work.'" 00:21:45.87\00:21:50.04 And then we go on verses 6-8, 00:21:50.07\00:21:52.04 I want to end on this one because it's really powerful. 00:21:52.07\00:21:54.31 He says, "I said, 'You are gods," 00:21:54.34\00:21:55.78 almost like he's bringing other guys, 00:21:55.81\00:21:57.48 I know I said that you were gods, 00:21:57.51\00:21:59.01 but notice what he says. 00:21:59.05\00:22:00.48 "'And all of you are children of the Most High. 00:22:00.52\00:22:03.85 But you shall die like men, 00:22:03.89\00:22:06.59 and fall like one of the princes.'" 00:22:06.62\00:22:10.43 And so right here God will reckon, 00:22:10.46\00:22:12.19 He's recognizing that He will reckon with them, 00:22:12.23\00:22:14.60 and will cut them off 00:22:14.63\00:22:16.40 in the midst of their pomp and prosperity. 00:22:16.43\00:22:19.50 They will die like other wicked men 00:22:19.53\00:22:21.54 and fall like one of the heathen princes 00:22:21.57\00:22:23.61 and many of the fallen angels and many of the unjust 00:22:23.64\00:22:26.01 that we are told about all through the Bible. 00:22:26.04\00:22:27.58 These men may be high and mighty now, but God says, 00:22:27.61\00:22:29.98 "Look, you will have your time, your reward is coming." 00:22:30.01\00:22:33.58 But I love verse 8, 00:22:33.62\00:22:34.95 because it brings back the positive nature 00:22:34.98\00:22:36.99 of this whole conversation, that is, he says, 00:22:37.02\00:22:39.09 "Arise, O God," 00:22:39.12\00:22:40.82 here's the answer to this whole problem, 00:22:40.86\00:22:42.22 "Arise, O God, judge the earth, 00:22:42.26\00:22:44.23 for You shall inherit all nations." 00:22:44.26\00:22:47.63 So when we look at a situation like this 00:22:47.66\00:22:49.26 and we're talking about the misuse, 00:22:49.30\00:22:50.90 and abuse of power, and judgment, and justice, 00:22:50.93\00:22:53.77 we know that we can place 00:22:53.80\00:22:55.27 this whole entire situation in God's hands, 00:22:55.30\00:22:58.31 because He is the righteous judge, 00:22:58.34\00:23:00.28 He is the answer to this. 00:23:00.31\00:23:02.34 A text that comes to my mind 00:23:02.38\00:23:04.28 when I was really studying this particular subject out 00:23:04.31\00:23:07.45 is a text that many people often don't consider 00:23:07.48\00:23:10.09 in this particular subject. 00:23:10.12\00:23:11.82 But that's Isaiah Chapter 9, and we notice verse 6 says, 00:23:11.85\00:23:15.02 that powerful verse, 00:23:15.06\00:23:16.39 "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given. 00:23:16.42\00:23:18.46 And the government will be upon His shoulder." 00:23:18.49\00:23:20.30 And it goes on to give all the names of Christ. 00:23:20.33\00:23:22.20 But notice verse 7, I love this about Jesus. 00:23:22.23\00:23:24.50 It says, "Of the increase of His government and peace, 00:23:24.53\00:23:27.90 there will be no end, 00:23:27.94\00:23:29.70 upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, 00:23:29.74\00:23:33.21 to order it and to establish it with judgment and justice 00:23:33.24\00:23:36.68 from that time forward, even forever. 00:23:36.71\00:23:38.98 The zeal of the Lord of the host will perform this." 00:23:39.01\00:23:41.58 We can place our trust in Christ 00:23:41.62\00:23:43.39 and know that the vengeance is His 00:23:43.42\00:23:45.49 and that He will rightly judge on behalf of the righteous. 00:23:45.52\00:23:48.56 Amen and amen. 00:23:48.59\00:23:49.92 Thank you for that good word. 00:23:49.96\00:23:51.29 And we want you to stay tuned, we'll be right back. 00:23:51.33\00:23:53.23 Ever wish you could watch 00:23:59.17\00:24:00.50 a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel again, 00:24:25.26\00:24:28.40 And we're back, we're going to pass the baton 00:24:31.90\00:24:34.14 to Pastor John Lomacang 00:24:34.17\00:24:36.04 who has Tuesday's lesson, "A King, His Promises." 00:24:36.07\00:24:39.97 Thank you, Shelley. Thank you, Pastor Ryan. 00:24:40.01\00:24:42.58 This lesson is an exciting one. 00:24:42.61\00:24:44.71 But in some sense, 00:24:44.75\00:24:48.08 the writer has given us a beautiful task 00:24:48.12\00:24:50.85 of extracting, from this lesson 00:24:50.89\00:24:53.36 things that we haven't often thought about. 00:24:53.39\00:24:55.89 And the king's promises are primarily focused 00:24:55.92\00:25:00.06 on Psalm 101:1-8, 00:25:00.10\00:25:01.86 and I want to take a quick peek at that. 00:25:01.90\00:25:04.83 Because he points out that although written for leaders, 00:25:04.87\00:25:10.24 what important counsel can we take from it ourselves, 00:25:10.27\00:25:13.58 whatever our position in life. 00:25:13.61\00:25:15.41 In Psalm 101:1-8, 00:25:15.44\00:25:17.28 the principles of leadership embodied there, 00:25:17.31\00:25:19.71 but I want to bring out a few points 00:25:19.75\00:25:21.65 about leadership principles. 00:25:21.68\00:25:23.62 Because leadership principles, 00:25:23.65\00:25:24.99 I mean, I like reading leadership books, 00:25:25.02\00:25:26.59 leader, you know, leadership 360, 00:25:26.62\00:25:30.66 number of other books, 00:25:30.69\00:25:32.03 I have just library books about leadership, 00:25:32.06\00:25:34.10 that I've noticed that 00:25:34.13\00:25:37.17 leaders talk about effective characteristical traits. 00:25:37.20\00:25:42.17 They often focus on things that will be, 00:25:42.20\00:25:44.27 if you do this, then this would occur. 00:25:44.31\00:25:46.71 They always work on cause and effect. 00:25:46.74\00:25:49.64 But what I want to point out 00:25:49.68\00:25:51.01 when it comes to Christian leadership, 00:25:51.05\00:25:52.75 we can't just look at cause and effect. 00:25:52.78\00:25:55.18 We have to look at where the power comes from. 00:25:55.22\00:25:58.05 That's a big part of what happens 00:25:58.09\00:25:59.42 in Christian leadership. 00:25:59.45\00:26:00.79 So what I want to do before I go 00:26:00.82\00:26:02.16 into the particular points 00:26:02.19\00:26:03.53 that I brought out about leadership skills 00:26:03.56\00:26:04.89 that are really embodied in Psalm 101. 00:26:04.93\00:26:07.13 I want to make a point. 00:26:07.16\00:26:08.50 First of all, making a pledge to exemplify any good character 00:26:08.53\00:26:11.63 cannot be accomplished by effort. 00:26:11.67\00:26:13.64 It's good. Because you have to... 00:26:13.67\00:26:15.00 Repeat that. 00:26:15.04\00:26:16.74 Making a pledge to exemplify any good character 00:26:16.77\00:26:21.31 cannot be accomplished by effort. 00:26:21.34\00:26:23.51 That's true. Amen. 00:26:23.55\00:26:25.21 Because it presupposes that you're good, right? 00:26:25.25\00:26:29.65 In the Christian life, it presupposes that we're good. 00:26:29.68\00:26:31.72 But the Bible says, Romans 3:12, 00:26:31.75\00:26:34.09 "They have all turned aside. 00:26:34.12\00:26:35.46 They have together become unprofitable. 00:26:35.49\00:26:36.83 There is none who does good, no, not one." 00:26:36.86\00:26:39.29 So to exemplify good principles 00:26:39.33\00:26:41.66 when I can't find anything good in me, Paul says, 00:26:41.70\00:26:44.53 "I know that in me, that is, 00:26:44.57\00:26:46.17 in my flesh dwelleth no good thing." 00:26:46.20\00:26:49.04 So we can't come from our own well. 00:26:49.07\00:26:51.74 And there's a quotation that I found in the book 00:26:51.77\00:26:55.24 "The Ministry of Healing," page 176. 00:26:55.28\00:26:58.31 This is written in 1905, but it's a very powerful quote. 00:26:58.35\00:27:00.95 It says, "God has given us," under the subtitle mind," 00:27:00.98\00:27:05.39 as power of choice. 00:27:05.42\00:27:06.86 God has given us the power of choice. 00:27:06.89\00:27:10.13 It is ours to exercise." 00:27:10.16\00:27:12.16 But listen to this. 00:27:12.19\00:27:13.53 "We cannot change our hearts, we cannot control our thoughts, 00:27:13.56\00:27:18.97 our impulses, our affections. 00:27:19.00\00:27:21.94 We cannot make ourselves pure, fit for God's service. 00:27:21.97\00:27:26.34 But we can choose to serve God. 00:27:26.37\00:27:30.15 We can give Him our will," and then watch this, 00:27:30.18\00:27:32.85 "then He will work in us to will and to do 00:27:32.88\00:27:36.58 according to His good pleasure. 00:27:36.62\00:27:39.39 Thus the whole nature will be brought 00:27:39.42\00:27:41.09 under the control of Christ." 00:27:41.12\00:27:42.82 So while we can't make ourselves pure, 00:27:42.86\00:27:45.19 we can't make ourselves fit, we can choose who to serve. 00:27:45.23\00:27:48.33 And I've learned as I've walked through, 00:27:48.36\00:27:49.93 you know, Romans, those of us who love Romans, 00:27:49.96\00:27:53.34 Romans is an athletic book of righteousness. 00:27:53.37\00:27:56.54 Romans makes it very clear, you know, 00:27:56.57\00:27:58.31 there are three aspects of Romans, 00:27:58.34\00:27:59.67 Romans 6:16, Romans 7:17 00:27:59.71\00:28:01.51 and then I jump all way to Galatians 2:20, 00:28:01.54\00:28:04.21 which is, "It is no longer I who do it, 00:28:04.25\00:28:05.78 but sin that lives in me," Romans 7:17. 00:28:05.81\00:28:08.28 And then Galatians 2:20, 00:28:08.32\00:28:10.32 "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." 00:28:10.35\00:28:12.72 So you have, "it is no longer, it is no longer," 00:28:12.75\00:28:14.89 in both cases, books apart, 00:28:14.92\00:28:17.93 but in one case, it's sin that's doing it, 00:28:17.96\00:28:20.03 the other one, it's Christ who lives in me. 00:28:20.06\00:28:22.56 So for those who want to be effective leaders, 00:28:22.60\00:28:24.17 we have to first come to the place 00:28:24.20\00:28:25.53 that Christ has to live in us, 00:28:25.57\00:28:27.17 for anything good to come out of us. 00:28:27.20\00:28:29.10 Because Philippians 2:13, 00:28:29.14\00:28:31.17 "For it is God who works in you 00:28:31.21\00:28:33.74 both to will and to do of His good pleasure." 00:28:33.78\00:28:36.98 So let's look at some of these effective leadership skills 00:28:37.01\00:28:38.95 that are brought out in Psalm 101. 00:28:38.98\00:28:41.05 First of all, 00:28:41.08\00:28:42.42 an effective leader leads by giving the praise to God. 00:28:42.45\00:28:45.99 Psalm 101:1, 00:28:46.02\00:28:47.36 "I will sing of mercy and justice to You, O Lord, 00:28:47.39\00:28:50.73 I will sing praises." 00:28:50.76\00:28:52.59 I believe if we learn how to praise God, 00:28:52.63\00:28:55.30 then we will teach others how to praise God. 00:28:55.33\00:28:57.73 The church cannot rise higher than its leadership. 00:28:57.77\00:29:01.04 That's right. That's right. 00:29:01.07\00:29:02.40 The organization cannot rise higher 00:29:02.44\00:29:03.87 than its leadership. 00:29:03.91\00:29:05.24 The leadership sets the cadence. 00:29:05.27\00:29:06.84 You know, reminds me of a guy that one day, 00:29:06.88\00:29:09.08 I heard about this guy that was called... 00:29:09.11\00:29:10.95 This was actually a true story, 00:29:10.98\00:29:12.75 the White House centuries back, not centuries back, 00:29:12.78\00:29:17.49 but more than 100 years ago had to be repaired. 00:29:17.52\00:29:20.86 And they called in a guy that was a master mason 00:29:20.89\00:29:22.82 to fix the steps. 00:29:22.86\00:29:24.19 Well, he was so excited about the steps being completed, 00:29:24.23\00:29:26.33 but he noticed that when he started, 00:29:26.36\00:29:29.36 when it was opened up for people to use it, 00:29:29.40\00:29:30.83 people would stumbling as they walk up the steps. 00:29:30.87\00:29:34.47 He said, "Why is everybody stumbling 00:29:34.50\00:29:36.14 when they're walking up the steps?" 00:29:36.17\00:29:38.11 And they came to find out 00:29:38.14\00:29:39.47 that the guy who repaired the steps, 00:29:39.51\00:29:41.68 repair them to his own standards, 00:29:41.71\00:29:43.55 he had a peg leg. 00:29:43.58\00:29:46.15 So one step was higher than the other, 00:29:46.18\00:29:48.85 and it was fine for him, 00:29:48.88\00:29:50.75 because he set it to his standards. 00:29:50.79\00:29:53.46 And oftentimes when our standards 00:29:53.49\00:29:55.32 are skewed or off kilter, 00:29:55.36\00:29:58.09 people coming in our steps are going to stumble. 00:29:58.13\00:30:01.10 That's what the Bible says, 00:30:01.13\00:30:02.46 "Make straight paths for your feet. 00:30:02.50\00:30:04.83 So the lame wouldn't be turned out of the way." 00:30:04.87\00:30:07.04 So one of the first things a leader has to do, 00:30:07.07\00:30:09.20 a leader step has to be made straight. 00:30:09.24\00:30:12.11 And I believe those steps are made straight 00:30:12.14\00:30:14.14 when we give praise to God 00:30:14.18\00:30:15.51 for the call that He's put on our lives. 00:30:15.54\00:30:17.71 Second, Psalm 101:2, the condition of the heart 00:30:17.75\00:30:21.88 affects the behavior of the life. 00:30:21.92\00:30:25.52 "I will behave wisely in a perfect way. 00:30:25.55\00:30:28.32 Oh, when will You come to me? 00:30:28.36\00:30:31.59 I will walk within my house with a perfect heart." 00:30:31.63\00:30:34.96 The condition of the heart 00:30:35.00\00:30:36.83 affects the behavior of the life. 00:30:36.87\00:30:39.27 I didn't put numbers on this, Jill, 00:30:39.30\00:30:40.64 but I'm on point number two. 00:30:40.67\00:30:42.00 Oh, but I'm numbering them. Okay. 00:30:42.04\00:30:43.71 The third one, Psalm 101:3, 00:30:43.74\00:30:45.61 our character traits are molded by our visual influences. 00:30:45.64\00:30:50.01 Ooh, that's good. 00:30:50.05\00:30:51.48 By beholding, we become changed. 00:30:51.51\00:30:53.82 Verse 3, 00:30:53.85\00:30:55.18 "I will set nothing wicked before my eyes. 00:30:55.22\00:30:57.32 I hate the works of those who fall away. 00:30:57.35\00:31:00.76 It shall not cling to me." 00:31:00.79\00:31:03.22 My wife and I have made this vow in our home. 00:31:03.26\00:31:05.36 We don't watch filthy things on our television. 00:31:05.39\00:31:08.60 Commercials that are suggestive and carnal, 00:31:08.63\00:31:12.37 I don't even look at them. 00:31:12.40\00:31:13.97 If they flash in to talk about something coming up, 00:31:14.00\00:31:16.81 some Victoria's Secret, 00:31:16.84\00:31:18.57 Fall Festival coming up on Sunday at 7:30 00:31:18.61\00:31:21.74 whatever, I get, "Honey, turn off that. 00:31:21.78\00:31:23.58 I don't even need that image in my mind." 00:31:23.61\00:31:24.95 Amen! That's right. 00:31:24.98\00:31:26.31 And so David found clearly when you put wicked things 00:31:26.35\00:31:28.25 before your eyes, it affects your heart. 00:31:28.28\00:31:31.02 You cannot put wicked things before. 00:31:31.05\00:31:32.85 A leader cannot look at wicked things 00:31:32.89\00:31:34.86 and be a righteous leader. 00:31:34.89\00:31:36.62 Cannot do it. 00:31:36.66\00:31:37.99 The other one, Psalm 101:4, 00:31:38.03\00:31:40.43 "Guard the thoughts of your heart. 00:31:40.46\00:31:42.96 A perverse heart shall depart from me. 00:31:43.00\00:31:45.47 I will not know wickedness." 00:31:45.50\00:31:47.57 Guard the thoughts of your heart. 00:31:47.60\00:31:49.80 You know, the Bible says, "As a man thinketh so as he," 00:31:49.84\00:31:53.07 as he thinks in his heart. 00:31:53.11\00:31:54.44 The reason why it says heart, you know 00:31:54.48\00:31:55.81 when you love somebody you go like that. 00:31:55.84\00:31:57.25 I heart you. 00:31:57.28\00:31:58.61 You don't say, I heart you here. 00:31:58.65\00:32:00.35 You say, "Why is he putting his heart on the brain?" 00:32:00.38\00:32:02.28 Because it's the matter of the heart 00:32:02.32\00:32:04.55 is the heart of the matter. 00:32:04.59\00:32:06.32 And so when your heart is right before God, 00:32:06.35\00:32:08.72 your life will be right before God, 00:32:08.76\00:32:10.33 because out of the heart comes, what? 00:32:10.36\00:32:12.93 Flows the issues of life. 00:32:12.96\00:32:14.30 That flows the issues of life. 00:32:14.33\00:32:15.86 As a man thinks so is he, 00:32:15.90\00:32:17.73 and you could always tell within a person's heart 00:32:17.77\00:32:19.40 out of the abundance of the heart, 00:32:19.43\00:32:21.40 the mouth speaks. 00:32:21.44\00:32:22.77 So guard your heart, 00:32:22.80\00:32:24.14 your words will be seasoned with righteousness 00:32:24.17\00:32:26.34 and your life will be flavored with God's presence. 00:32:26.37\00:32:29.21 The other one, do not participate in slander, 00:32:29.24\00:32:32.08 that's insulting, or display a haughty spirit, 00:32:32.11\00:32:34.85 that's arrogant. 00:32:34.88\00:32:36.25 A leader that's arrogant is a leader 00:32:36.28\00:32:37.99 that may get things done, 00:32:38.02\00:32:40.22 but will never affect change in people's lives. 00:32:40.26\00:32:43.29 You know, arrogant, "Do that!" 00:32:43.32\00:32:44.66 Well, you might do it, but you'll say, 00:32:44.69\00:32:46.03 "You know, I don't want to be anything like him. 00:32:46.06\00:32:48.56 I can't wait to get another job." 00:32:48.60\00:32:49.96 Bible says, 00:32:50.00\00:32:51.33 "Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, 00:32:51.37\00:32:53.27 him I will destroy. 00:32:53.30\00:32:54.67 The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, 00:32:54.70\00:32:57.11 him I will not endure." 00:32:57.14\00:32:59.04 God doesn't like people that are arrogant. 00:32:59.07\00:33:01.18 And Christian leaders cannot afford to be arrogant. 00:33:01.21\00:33:03.85 Pastors that say, 00:33:03.88\00:33:05.21 "I'm a pastor, you do what I tell you." 00:33:05.25\00:33:06.78 I don't lead that way. 00:33:06.82\00:33:08.15 I try to be humble 00:33:08.18\00:33:09.52 even when people complain about something I've done. 00:33:09.55\00:33:11.09 I said, "Well, now, 00:33:11.12\00:33:12.45 maybe I don't take everything they said to be legitimate, 00:33:12.49\00:33:14.69 but what did I do to cause them to even want to complain." 00:33:14.72\00:33:18.06 And I asked, "Lord, is that true? 00:33:18.09\00:33:20.46 Can I gain something from it?" 00:33:20.50\00:33:22.33 Never be to the point 00:33:22.36\00:33:23.70 where you are arrogant and never think 00:33:23.73\00:33:25.07 that you're everybody's cup of tea either, all right? 00:33:25.10\00:33:29.40 Psalm 101:6. 00:33:29.44\00:33:30.77 We are called to make faithful decisions 00:33:30.81\00:33:32.57 and choose our paths wisely. 00:33:32.61\00:33:35.14 "My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, 00:33:35.18\00:33:39.41 that they may dwell with me. 00:33:39.45\00:33:41.18 He who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve me." 00:33:41.22\00:33:44.92 Make wise choices for your paths. 00:33:44.95\00:33:47.16 You can go left and expect to go right. 00:33:47.19\00:33:49.52 It's just not possible. 00:39:01.20\00:39:06.37 Praise is powerful. 00:39:06.41\00:39:08.11 You know, in my own journey, in my own walk with God, 00:39:08.14\00:39:12.95 when I learned that my relationship with God 00:39:12.98\00:39:15.42 was not dependent on how I felt, 00:39:15.45\00:39:17.69 but it was dependent on the promises found 00:39:17.72\00:39:20.66 in the Word of God 00:39:20.69\00:39:22.26 that revolutionized my journey with Jesus. 00:39:22.29\00:39:25.69 I used to think if I woke up 00:39:25.73\00:39:27.26 and I prayed and it felt like 00:39:27.30\00:39:29.33 my prayers hit the ceiling and bounce back down, 00:39:29.36\00:39:31.50 "Well, then God didn't hear me or there was something wrong 00:39:31.53\00:39:34.14 in my relationship with God." 00:39:34.17\00:39:36.00 But when I learned that I can base my faith 00:39:36.04\00:39:39.41 on the promises in God's Word, 00:39:39.44\00:39:42.08 and that I can praise Him any way, 00:39:42.11\00:39:45.38 it changed my walk with Him. 00:39:45.41\00:39:48.35 So I want to give you five things 00:39:48.38\00:39:51.89 that praise does for us as Christians. 00:39:51.92\00:39:54.92 Now, of course, there's more things 00:39:54.96\00:39:56.29 but all we have time for right now is five. 00:39:56.32\00:39:58.69 Number one, 00:39:58.73\00:40:00.06 praise takes the focus off of myself, 00:40:00.10\00:40:03.23 and it turns it outward toward God. 00:40:03.26\00:40:05.53 We're going to Psalm 35. 00:40:05.57\00:40:07.07 You know, it's difficult to think 00:40:07.10\00:40:09.40 about two things at the very same time. 00:40:09.44\00:40:11.67 Now, I can be thinking about one thing 00:40:11.71\00:40:14.18 and then your mind instantly jumps 00:40:14.21\00:40:15.64 to something else, and then you're like, 00:40:15.68\00:40:17.01 "No, wait a minute, I was over here 00:40:17.05\00:40:18.41 and you can bring your mind back." 00:40:18.45\00:40:20.12 But it's difficult for me to be engaged in self-pity 00:40:20.15\00:40:23.72 and thoughts about myself, 00:40:23.75\00:40:25.79 and thinking about something else, 00:40:25.82\00:40:27.39 but the converse is true. 00:40:27.42\00:40:28.89 If I'm focused on Jesus, and praising Him, 00:40:28.92\00:40:32.93 it automatically takes the focus off myself. 00:40:32.96\00:40:36.13 Psalm 35:28, 00:40:36.16\00:40:38.20 "My tongue shall speak of Your righteousness, 00:40:38.23\00:40:41.24 and of Your praise all the day long." 00:40:41.27\00:40:44.94 Praise takes the focus off of me 00:40:44.97\00:40:47.38 and it turns it outward toward God. 00:40:47.41\00:40:49.74 Number two, praise makes the enemy flee. 00:40:49.78\00:40:54.38 2 Chronicles Chapter 20, 00:40:54.42\00:40:56.25 Jehoshaphat was in this tremendous battle 00:40:56.28\00:40:58.25 of the Moabites and the Ammonites 00:40:58.29\00:41:00.09 were coming against him and the people. 00:41:00.12\00:41:02.82 And he went on his face before God 00:41:02.86\00:41:05.09 but what made the enemy flee. 00:41:05.13\00:41:07.10 2 Chronicles 20:22. 00:41:07.13\00:41:09.16 "When they began to sing and to praise, 00:41:09.20\00:41:11.77 the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, 00:41:11.80\00:41:15.74 Moab and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, 00:41:15.77\00:41:18.34 and they were defeated." 00:41:18.37\00:41:20.48 So praise! 00:41:20.51\00:41:21.84 When they began to praise, the enemy fled. 00:41:21.88\00:41:24.98 Number three, praise, especially, 00:41:25.01\00:41:27.48 united praise invites God's presence. 00:41:27.52\00:41:31.12 This is one of my favorite ones. 00:41:31.15\00:41:33.05 2 Chronicles 5:13-14, the dedication of the temple. 00:41:33.09\00:41:37.16 And it says, "It came to pass, 00:41:37.19\00:41:38.89 when the trumpeters and singers were as one," 00:41:38.93\00:41:42.50 that's that you unity, when they were as one, 00:41:42.53\00:41:46.33 "to make one sound and be heard in praising 00:41:46.37\00:41:48.84 and thanking the Lord, 00:41:48.87\00:41:50.21 when they lifted up their voice 00:41:50.24\00:41:51.57 with the trumpet and cymbals and instruments of music, 00:41:51.61\00:41:53.74 and praise the Lord." 00:41:53.78\00:41:55.14 So they're united as one in praise. 00:41:55.18\00:41:58.91 What happened? 00:41:58.95\00:42:00.28 The house, the house of the Lord 00:42:00.32\00:42:01.65 was filled with the cloud." 00:42:01.68\00:42:03.02 And it was so thick 00:42:03.05\00:42:04.39 that they could not even continue ministry. 00:42:04.42\00:42:08.16 God showed up. 00:42:08.19\00:42:10.13 United praise brought the presence of God. 00:42:10.16\00:42:15.03 Now, I was never very good at math. 00:42:15.06\00:42:17.00 But one of the theorems or whatever you call them, 00:42:17.03\00:42:19.47 I remember is if A equals B 00:42:19.50\00:42:24.21 and B equals C, 00:42:24.24\00:42:27.21 then A equals C. 00:42:27.24\00:42:28.71 Do you all remember one at school? 00:42:28.74\00:42:30.08 Yes, absolutely. 00:42:30.11\00:42:31.45 So if we have praise as A, 00:42:31.48\00:42:34.15 and united praise brings B, 00:42:34.18\00:42:37.95 that's the presence of God. 00:42:37.99\00:42:40.12 Now, let's read our next scripture. 00:42:40.16\00:42:42.02 Psalm 16:11, 00:42:42.06\00:42:43.56 "You will show me the path of life. 00:42:43.59\00:42:45.59 In your presence is fullness of joy." 00:42:45.63\00:42:49.46 This means presence brings joy. 00:42:49.50\00:42:54.14 So if you're lacking joy in your life, and you say, 00:42:54.17\00:42:56.57 "I'm struggling," 00:42:56.60\00:42:58.21 you need to go back to A and you need to praise. 00:42:58.24\00:43:00.68 Praise brings the presence of God, 00:43:00.71\00:43:02.58 and the presence of God brings joy. 00:43:02.61\00:43:05.65 But there's a D. 00:43:05.68\00:43:07.02 The next verse, Nehemiah 8:10, 00:43:07.05\00:43:08.85 "The joy of the Lord is your strength." 00:43:08.88\00:43:12.52 So praise brings the presence of God, 00:43:12.55\00:43:15.99 the presence of God brings joy, 00:43:16.02\00:43:18.63 and joy brings strength. 00:43:18.66\00:43:21.26 So if you're feeling weak, if you're feeling discouraged, 00:43:21.30\00:43:24.60 if you do not have strength in your Christian journey, 00:43:24.63\00:43:28.34 you need to praise 00:43:28.37\00:43:29.87 because that will give you strength. 00:43:29.90\00:43:32.37 Praise will give you joy, 00:43:32.41\00:43:34.28 and praise will bring you the presence of God. 00:43:34.31\00:43:36.51 Finally, number five, praise allows God to work. 00:43:36.54\00:43:41.45 Remember Paul and Silas in the jail in Philippi. 00:43:41.48\00:43:44.09 At midnight... 00:43:44.12\00:43:45.45 What does the Bible say in Acts 16:25-26? 00:43:45.49\00:43:48.72 At midnight, they were praying and singing hymns to God, 00:43:48.76\00:43:53.09 and the prisoners were listening to them. 00:43:53.13\00:43:55.70 And suddenly what happened? 00:43:55.73\00:43:58.43 The Lord brought deliverance. 00:43:58.47\00:44:01.77 J Hudson Taylor, 00:44:01.80\00:44:03.14 founder of the China Inland Mission. 00:44:03.17\00:44:05.81 In 1870, his son Samuel died, 00:44:05.84\00:44:09.14 and that's tremendous pain and devastation. 00:44:09.18\00:44:11.78 Six months later, 00:44:11.81\00:44:13.15 his wife gave birth to a baby who died. 00:44:13.18\00:44:16.52 Two weeks after that, his wife died. 00:44:16.55\00:44:19.75 Now he lost his wife and two of his children. 00:44:19.79\00:44:23.26 She was 33 and he was 38. 00:44:23.29\00:44:25.23 And he wrote in his journal, 00:44:25.26\00:44:27.50 "I am so thankful 00:44:27.53\00:44:29.23 that I can serve Jesus one more day." 00:44:29.26\00:44:34.20 That is a life of praise. 00:44:34.24\00:44:36.77 They say at the time of his death, 00:44:36.81\00:44:38.47 25,000 converts to Christianity 00:44:38.51\00:44:41.88 could be traced to the legacy of his work 00:44:41.91\00:44:45.18 and his mission, and his influence. 00:44:45.21\00:44:47.92 So get out of yourself and praise God. 00:44:47.95\00:44:50.32 Amen. Great job. Amen. I love that. 00:44:50.35\00:44:52.95 The joy of the Lord is our strength. 00:44:52.99\00:44:55.12 That's right. But it's Philippians. 00:51:46.27\00:51:48.10 I've got it written down right here Philippians 4:8. 00:51:48.14\00:51:50.07 Okay. 00:51:50.11\00:51:51.44 So, we can, if we find our mind and all of us do this, 00:51:51.47\00:51:56.31 we find our mind drifting to this calamity, 00:51:56.34\00:51:59.35 that is before us. 00:51:59.38\00:52:00.88 And we have to by an act of our will 00:52:00.92\00:52:03.18 make a choice to pull our mind back to. 00:52:03.22\00:52:07.16 You know, I am strong in the Lord 00:52:07.19\00:52:09.96 and in the power of His might. 00:52:09.99\00:52:11.33 No weapon formed against me will prosper. 00:52:11.36\00:52:13.29 But what I lay my hand to will prosper. 00:52:13.33\00:52:15.70 I'm trusting in the Lord. 00:52:15.73\00:52:17.13 The Lord is my strength and my deliverer. 00:52:17.17\00:52:19.80 When you bring your mind thinking on those good things, 00:52:19.83\00:52:23.64 then it will lift you out of that pit 00:52:23.67\00:52:26.11 and give you that merry heart that Shelley was talking about. 00:52:26.14\00:52:30.65 Proverbs 17:22, 00:52:30.68\00:52:33.62 "A merry heart does good, like," what? 00:52:33.65\00:52:37.09 "Like a medicine, 00:52:37.12\00:52:38.45 but a broken spirit dries the bones." 00:52:38.49\00:52:41.96 And Proverbs 19:17, 00:52:41.99\00:52:44.93 "He who," we're going to change gears here a bit. 00:52:44.96\00:52:47.76 "He who has pity on the poor lends to," whom? 00:52:47.80\00:52:51.93 The Lord. The Lord. 00:52:51.97\00:52:53.30 "Lends to the Lord, 00:52:53.34\00:52:54.67 and He will pay back what he has given." 00:52:54.70\00:52:57.64 Boy, I think that is so powerful. 00:52:57.67\00:53:00.28 When you... 00:53:00.31\00:53:01.64 Again, what we're looking at today 00:53:01.68\00:53:03.28 is mercy on the needy. 00:53:03.31\00:53:06.25 And this says, 00:53:06.28\00:53:07.72 if we see someone that's needy, 00:53:07.75\00:53:10.85 if we take care of that need, 00:53:10.89\00:53:13.32 we're not giving it to them, 00:53:13.36\00:53:15.26 expecting them to give it back to us. 00:53:15.29\00:53:17.33 We're not expecting anybody to give anything back to us. 00:53:17.36\00:53:20.20 But we know what we do. 00:53:20.23\00:53:21.66 We set into motion a biblical principle, 00:53:21.70\00:53:25.83 and that biblical principle says, 00:53:25.87\00:53:28.34 "As you lend to the needy, 00:53:28.37\00:53:31.17 that who's going to pay you back? 00:53:31.21\00:53:32.54 God's going to pay you back. 00:53:32.57\00:53:34.34 So I want to read Matthew 25. 00:53:34.38\00:53:37.98 Let me go there. Matthew 25:34-40. 00:53:38.01\00:53:42.02 That's a lot of scripture, but I think it's worth reading. 00:53:42.05\00:53:45.25 "Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 00:53:45.29\00:53:48.12 'Come, you blessed of My Father, 00:53:48.16\00:53:50.13 inherit the kingdom prepared for you 00:53:50.16\00:53:53.06 from the foundation of the world." 00:53:53.09\00:53:54.80 And I know we've used the scripture, 00:53:54.83\00:53:56.77 I think already once today. 00:53:56.80\00:53:58.83 It says, "For I was hungry and you gave Me food. 00:53:58.87\00:54:01.87 I was thirsty and you gave Me drink. 00:54:01.90\00:54:03.81 I was a stranger and you took Me in. 00:54:03.84\00:54:05.94 I was naked and you clothed Me." 00:54:05.97\00:54:08.41 And the righteous say, "When did we do this? 00:54:08.44\00:54:12.98 We don't recall doing that to You, Lord." 00:54:13.01\00:54:15.48 What does the Lord say? 00:54:15.52\00:54:17.35 "When you've done it unto the least of these," 00:54:17.39\00:54:21.82 who have you done it unto? 00:54:21.86\00:54:23.19 Him. "You've done it unto Him." 00:54:23.22\00:54:25.23 Okay. 00:54:25.26\00:54:28.23 Proverbs 14:31, 00:54:28.26\00:54:30.83 "He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, 00:54:30.87\00:54:35.47 but he who honors Him has mercy on the needy." 00:54:35.50\00:54:39.61 And that's what we're looking at, 00:54:39.64\00:54:41.21 having mercy on the needy. 00:54:41.24\00:54:46.65 We just don't know 00:54:46.68\00:54:48.65 the circumstances of the poor and the needy. 00:54:48.68\00:54:51.05 And if we look at their circumstances and think, 00:54:51.09\00:54:54.06 I feel superior to them, 00:54:54.09\00:54:56.12 then we are reproaching our Maker. 00:54:56.16\00:54:58.29 My encouragement for every one of us today 00:54:58.33\00:55:01.76 is that we just ask God to open our hearts 00:55:01.80\00:55:04.63 and soften our hearts, 00:55:04.67\00:55:06.84 show us those that we need to be helping, 00:55:06.87\00:55:09.70 and then allow the Lord to use you to be a blessing 00:55:09.74\00:55:14.28 to those who are in need around you. 00:55:14.31\00:55:15.88 Amen, and amen. 00:55:15.91\00:55:17.35 I have enjoyed so much each one of your presentations. 00:55:17.38\00:55:20.95 Let's take a moment 00:55:20.98\00:55:22.32 for a quick closing thought, Ryan? 00:55:22.35\00:55:23.69 Yeah, sure. 00:55:23.72\00:55:25.05 So this particular lesson 00:55:25.09\00:55:26.42 just makes me think of Revelation, 00:55:26.45\00:55:29.36 ending chapters of Revelation. 00:55:29.39\00:55:32.26 I just feel like shouting with the multitude 00:55:32.29\00:55:34.56 in the times that we're living in. 00:55:34.60\00:55:35.93 Halleluiah for the Lord God Almighty, 00:55:35.96\00:55:38.67 the Lord our God omnipotent reigns. 00:55:38.70\00:55:40.70 I mean, we know that He reigns and He's in control. 00:55:40.74\00:55:43.17 But even the discussion on this particular topic 00:55:43.20\00:55:47.18 draws my attention to Revelation 22:20, 00:55:47.21\00:55:49.34 which says, "He who testifies to these things says, 00:55:49.38\00:55:51.85 'Surely I am coming quickly.' 00:55:51.88\00:55:53.62 Amen. 00:55:53.65\00:55:54.98 Even so, come Lord Jesus Christ!'" 00:55:55.02\00:55:56.35 And I'm saying, "Come Lord Jesus Christ." 00:55:56.38\00:55:58.72 I'm ready to go home. 00:55:58.75\00:56:00.09 Amen. Right. 00:56:00.12\00:56:01.46 Mark 1:17, 00:56:01.49\00:56:02.82 to be an effective leader, you have to have a plan. 00:56:02.86\00:56:04.33 Here's the plan, 00:56:04.36\00:56:05.69 "Follow me and I will make you." 00:56:05.73\00:56:07.70 You cannot make yourself, 00:56:07.73\00:56:09.06 you have to follow the one who alone is able to make us. 00:56:09.10\00:56:12.63 Follow the Lord and He will make you 00:56:12.67\00:56:14.37 what He intends for you to become. 00:56:14.40\00:56:15.84 Amen. Praise is not for God. 00:56:15.87\00:56:18.44 It's not something we do for Him. 00:56:18.47\00:56:19.97 Praise is for you and for me, it changes us and our outlook. 00:56:20.01\00:56:24.08 And Psalm 146, 00:56:24.11\00:56:26.48 there were some serious situations 00:56:26.51\00:56:28.38 that they were dealing with, 00:56:28.42\00:56:29.75 but yet in the midst of that they chose to praise God. 00:56:29.78\00:56:32.42 Amen. 00:56:32.45\00:56:33.96 And we are to show grace and mercy 00:56:33.99\00:56:36.99 to those that are in need. 00:56:37.03\00:56:38.36 We can't be superior or look down 00:56:38.39\00:56:40.33 at judgmental nose at those around us. 00:56:40.36\00:56:43.06 The alcoholic didn't say when he was young, you know, 00:56:43.10\00:56:45.53 "Someday what I aspire to be is an alcoholic in a gutter." 00:56:45.57\00:56:50.17 The lady of ill repute didn't say, 00:56:50.21\00:56:51.97 "Someday, you know what I want to do? 00:56:52.01\00:56:53.98 I want to sell my body for drugs 00:56:54.01\00:56:56.61 and be treated with degradation." 00:56:56.64\00:56:58.85 We don't know the circumstances so we can't be judgmental. 00:56:58.88\00:57:02.18 What we can be is obedient to God 00:57:02.22\00:57:04.72 and show them grace and mercy. 00:57:04.75\00:57:06.99 Amen and amen. 00:57:07.02\00:57:08.36 Thank you each so much for the study, 00:57:08.39\00:57:11.43 the amount of time that you put in 00:57:11.46\00:57:12.93 to prepare these studies. 00:57:12.96\00:57:14.80 You know, for those of you at home, 00:57:14.83\00:57:17.07 we just want you to know, 00:57:17.10\00:57:18.47 you may be feeling oppressed, 00:57:18.50\00:57:20.10 you may be feeling neglected 00:57:20.14\00:57:21.80 or overlooked or somebody has slandered you, 00:57:21.84\00:57:24.67 you may be going through some kind of trial. 00:57:24.71\00:57:28.21 But you have the Prince of Peace 00:57:28.24\00:57:30.68 on your side, He is ready to come to you 00:57:30.71\00:57:33.82 at a moment's cry, and you can look to Him. 00:57:33.85\00:57:37.32 He is the champion of the helpless. 00:57:37.35\00:57:42.42 And I pray that your heart will be filled 00:57:42.46\00:57:45.83 and just overflow with hope, 00:57:45.86\00:57:49.73 that eager expectation that God will show up. 00:57:49.76\00:57:53.17 Our prayer for you is that the grace 00:57:53.20\00:57:54.87 of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, 00:57:54.90\00:57:57.04 the love of the Father 00:57:57.07\00:57:58.41 and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit 00:57:58.44\00:58:00.01 will be with you always. 00:58:00.04\00:58:01.84 Bye-bye. 00:58:01.88\00:58:03.21
