Jesus spoke of the time of Noah,

at that particular moment,

is reflecting that

the Orthodox Jews

that they're still waiting
for the literal presence,

the literal arrival
of the Prophet Elijah.

And so Jesus
clarified this very clearly

but, of course, we know

the Orthodox
Jews did not believe

that Jesus was
the literal Son of God

and really didn't
trust His Word very much.

In fact, they would nail
him to a tree eventually.

But in right here,
Matthew 17:10, they're asking,

why does the scribe
said that Elijah must come?

They're a little confused,

is this Elijah,
is this not Elijah,

is he to come,

What are we to believe?

we see the response of Israel

pleaded with His people

to return to Him.

But He was met with a
very arrogant response.

Malachi 3:7 says here.

It says, "Yet from
the days of your fathers,

you have gone away
from My ordinances,

and have not kept them.

Return to me, and

says the Lord of hosts."

But then notice what it says.

God, He's telling the response.

had their hearts hardened

very arrogant response.

one last call for revival

that evil is progressive.

He's Ahab's dad.

So Ahab's dad did evil
in the eyes of the Lord

"and did worse than

He walked in all the ways
of Jeroboam the son of Nebat,

and in his sin by
which he had made Israel sin,

whom we marry impacts our future

and that of the
people underneath us.

We know Ahab marry Jezebel.

says, "It came to pass,

as though it had
been a trivial thing

for him to walk in the sins
of Jeroboam the son of Nebat,

that he took as wife
Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal,

king of the Sidonians,
00:17:23.00\00:17:24.34
and he went and served
Baal and worshiped him."

Now, Jezebel's name is related

to one of the
titles given to Baal,

who was the God of rain

or they
considered the God of rain.

And her dad was
king of Tyre and Sidon,

and many sources say

he was a priest of
this idol worship there.

Jezebel convinced Ahab
to plunge into idolatrous

and immoral worship of Baal.

"There was no one
like Ahab who sold himself
00:17:53.07\00:17:56.30
to do wickedness in
the sight of the Lord,

because Jezebel his
wife stirred him up."

So whom we marry
impacts our future.

Number four,

Ahab we see
lead in idol worship.

1 Kings 16, we're back
to 1 Kings 16:31, it says,

"Ahab went and served
Baal and worshiped him."

He also built a temple
and an altar in Samaria
00:18:16.46\00:18:19.69
for this pagan god
00:18:19.73\00:18:21.06
and encouraged the
people to worship Baal.
00:18:21.10\00:18:24.77
Number five,

Ahab allowed a man
to rebuild the walls
00:18:26.17\00:18:27.90
and gates of Jericho
00:18:27.94\00:18:29.80
in direct
defiance of God's Word.

Now it's interesting,

we will read all
that but in Ahab's days,

while he was king,
00:18:37.35\00:18:38.68
there was a certain
man who rebuilt Jericho.

Now you think
that's not a big deal.
00:18:41.28\00:18:43.12
But if you go back to Joshua,
look it up later, Joshua 6:26.
00:18:43.15\00:18:47.76
Joshua had said,
00:18:47.79\00:18:49.12
"Cursed is the man who
builds the city Jericho."
00:18:49.16\00:18:53.86
He shall lay its
foundation with his firstborn
00:18:53.90\00:18:56.06
and with his youngest,
00:18:56.10\00:18:57.43
he shall set up the gates
00:18:57.47\00:18:58.80
and that's
exactly what happened.

The man who built
Jericho, his firstborn, died

when they laid the foundation

and his youngest son
died when they finished

and put the gates in.

So Ahab knew this
prophecy back in Joshua,

and yet he openly allowed them

to go against the
direct command of God.

Number six, even
with such open sin

and leading other people to sin
because that's what Ahab did.

He openly sinned and
he let his people to sin.

God is so merciful

and He still
calls us to repentance.

man and he's an evil man,

even more wicked wife.

And yet he spoke
the word of the Lord.

He was obedient,

despite the consequences
that might have come.

obedience to His commands.

fare better than Baal's.

The main purpose
of this narrative

is to demonstrate
on Phoenician soil,

where Baal is
worshipped that God has power

servants are easily recognized.

who was a prophet

So that indicates
she recognized him

as a man of God.

wow, he's a prophet.

do not determine our destiny.

things are unexplainable,

brought her son back to life.

Some things are
unexplainable in life,

but we can still trust.

experiencing God at work

So let's take a
quick look at this.

First of all,

you know, in Deuteronomy,

people don't turn to
the left or the right

to follow after other gods.

But here you've
got wicked King Ahab.

He is idolatrous and he
hates the Prophet Elijah.

Because the Prophet
Elijah tells the truth,

he's not worried
about what he's saying.

Ahab is
supporting pagan prophets,
00:26:21.28\00:26:24.48
who were politically correct.
00:26:24.51\00:26:27.62
Their message was what
the king wanted to hear.

And so now what happens is,

God has shut up the
rain at Elijah's request

for three and a half years.
00:26:38.59\00:26:40.46
And Ahab is
saying, calling Elijah,

the troubler of Israel.
00:26:43.43\00:26:46.17
He is upset with him.
00:26:46.20\00:26:49.30
So now we're getting ready
to have a showdown if you will,

between the
deities, these pagan deities,

and the true God.

And Ahab invites all
of the people of Israel,

850 pagan prophets are invited.

Now only the 450
prophets of Baal show up,

the 400 prophets
of Asherah do not,

and that too
Queen Jezebel supported.

But now we're about
to have the showdown

between Yahweh and Baal.

Let's look at that.

Elijah came to
all the people and...

Let me tell you, he had a
heart that wanted these people

persecution of some sense.
