testimony, and they did not
love their lives to the death."

We cannot
overcome any other way,

And so when we talk about
Revelation and we talk about

this book, this tremendous
book, we want to keep Jesus

central; He is the Alpha
and the Omega but He's also

the Center - He is
the Head of the church.

We don't want Him to get lost
in the symbolism of the book,

while each of the symbolistic
components have a powerful
00:03:44.65\00:03:48.39
message behind them,
Jesus is the central focus
00:03:48.42\00:03:52.09
in the theme of
the Book of Revelation.
00:03:52.13\00:03:54.10
And, you know, we begin with
just the overview of Revelation.
00:03:54.13\00:03:58.13
Revelation is the end
of the Great Controversy.
00:03:58.17\00:04:01.90
This
controversy began in heaven.
00:04:01.94\00:04:05.11
The Bible makes it very
clear that Lucifer was perfect
00:04:05.14\00:04:08.71
in all the ways he was created
until iniquity was found in him.
00:04:08.74\00:04:12.85
And that, in and of itself,
is a mystery of iniquity,
00:04:12.88\00:04:16.38
but as I studied the
Bible, I came to discover

when the Bible uses the
word "mystery," it doesn't

mean "remain
hidden," it just means

"hidden to that
particular point."

The mystery of godliness
was hidden for many ages,

but in the New Testament,
the Lord unfolded that

beautifully to the
New Testament Church...

And Revelation was a book
that, for some time, people

didn't understand - not
because it was a closed book,
00:04:35.97\00:04:39.51
but because they didn't
have the knowledge necessary
00:04:39.54\00:04:43.35
and the Bible says, "As we
live in the end, Daniel 12,
00:04:43.41\00:04:46.55
"Knowledge shall increase."
00:04:46.58\00:04:48.85
And so we know now, today,
not because more information
00:04:48.88\00:04:52.79
has been made
available, but the Lord in His
00:04:52.82\00:04:56.06
love for humanity, He
only unveils what is needed
00:04:56.09\00:05:01.73
at that particular time.
00:05:01.76\00:05:04.20
He lets us know the time
is at hand and so when the
00:05:04.27\00:05:07.74
time is at hand, He
reveals the understanding.

Amos 3:7... "Surely
the Lord God does nothing

except He reveals His secrets
to His servants, the prophets."

And the word of God is
denoted as a light that shines

more and more unto
the perfect day. Amen!

So the light is continuing to
increase, but we dive into the

setting that Revelation
gives us the big picture

behind the final
crisis of world history.

It is so good to know we're
living in the seventh church.

The next church is the
Church Triumphant! Yes, Amen!

fourth beast of Daniel 7,

the fourth component
of the image of Daniel 2.

We're living in the
second beast of Revelation 13,

and so after that, the
only thing that we look

forward to is the
victorious kingdom of God,

as Revelation 11 says,
"The kingdoms of this world

will become the kingdoms
of our Lord and of our Christ.

And Isaiah says that
and He shall reign forever

and ever. Amen. Halleluiah!

But the devil... let's go
to Revelation 16, I want to

give you this
component behind-the-scene look

because the controversy
began in heaven; the devil lost,

he did not prevail,
he was cast to the earth.
00:06:14.27\00:06:16.54
And in the Garden of Eden,
he mounted the second attack.

The first one didn't work,
he mounted the second attack

which, in fact, Revelation
takes us to the overreaching

picture of the second attack.

But there's going to be one
more attack... Revelation 16.

"He knows he has a
short time, Revelation 12:12,

He knows he has a
short time but look at

Revelation 16:13, Satan's final
hurrah, if I could use that

phrase, it's the
battle of Armageddon,

"Armageddon."

Revelation 16:13, the
Bible reveals here the final

component what the devil
is attempting to do because

he knows he can't win.

Verse 13... "And I
saw three unclean spirits,
00:06:52.11\00:06:55.18
like frogs, coming out
of the mouth of the...?
00:06:55.21\00:06:57.91
dragon, out of
the mouth of the...?

Beast and out of the
mouth of the...? False prophet
00:07:00.25\00:07:03.62
Clearly, the dragon,
Satan or spiritualism.

The beast talked about
here is Catholicism. Right.

And the false prophet
here is apostate Protestantism.

Protestants were to be
the ones to hold the rein,
00:07:14.03\00:07:18.00
to keep biblical and
scriptural integrity.

But they have departed
from the "Thus saith the Lord,"

and have given themselves
to tradition and extra biblical
00:07:23.44\00:07:26.68
resources that have no bearing
on what the word of God says.

So when Protestantism no
longer holds to the creed of

Protestantism, "Sola Scriptura,"
the Bible and the Bible only,

they become apostate
and they build a bridge,

and you'll see that
bridge we talked about

in the lesson as we go on.

But quickly, verse 14,
speaking about what the devil

is going to do... "For
they are the spirits of demons

performing signs which go
out to the kings of the earth,

and of the whole world to gather
them to the battle of that

great day of God
Almighty and verse 16 calls it,

"The battle of Armageddon."

That's the place
called in Hebrews.

But go to Revelation
12:1, let's look at the

setting here because this
is, in fact, I could refer to as
00:08:01.41\00:08:05.51
a waltz... a waltz
through the big picture from
00:08:05.55\00:08:09.82
who is the focus; who
doesn't like the fact that
00:08:09.85\00:08:14.09
who is the focus; what he
does to try to change the focus,
00:08:14.12\00:08:18.29
and when he can't
change the focus, what he tries
00:08:18.33\00:08:21.20
to do while God is
preserving His people and then
00:08:21.23\00:08:24.40
he goes and says, "Uhhh,
I'm angry with the woman,"
00:08:24.43\00:08:28.17
and the question
is, "Why is he angry?"
00:08:28.20\00:08:29.54
Let's look at the focus...
00:08:29.57\00:08:30.91
Revelation 12:1... "Now a
great sign appeared in heaven;
00:08:30.94\00:08:34.41
a woman clothed with the sun,
with the moon under her feet,
00:08:34.44\00:08:37.28
and on her head a crown
or garland of twelve stars."
00:08:37.35\00:08:40.25
Twelve is the kingdom number;
12 disciples, 12 apostles,
00:08:40.32\00:08:44.65
12 tribes, 12 gates, 12
foundations, the name of the
00:08:44.69\00:08:48.99
12 disciples... it's
the number of the kingdom.
00:08:49.02\00:08:52.46
And so the woman is
given here and, by the way,
00:08:52.49\00:08:55.00
the woman has no glory
of her own because Malachi 4
00:08:55.03\00:08:59.10
refers to Jesus as the
"S-u-n" of righteousness.
00:08:59.13\00:09:03.14
So she is reflecting His glory;
the church is a reflection of
00:09:03.17\00:09:07.41
the glory of Christ.
00:09:07.44\00:09:09.01
We have no glory of our own.
00:09:09.04\00:09:11.31
But the Bible says, "Then
being with child, (verse 2),
00:09:11.35\00:09:13.68
she cried out in labor
and in pain to give birth."
00:09:13.75\00:09:16.38
When you read this
verse, you'll discover...
00:09:16.42\00:09:18.79
it goes on further in verse
5, "And she bore a male Child...
00:09:18.82\00:09:23.76
Well actually, verse 4;
speaking about the devil,

well, verse 3... "And
another sign appeared in heaven;

and behold a great fiery
red dragon having seven heads
00:09:29.00\00:09:32.37
and ten horns and
seven diadems (or crowns)

on his heads." A description
of Satan once again...

We'll talk about the
seven heads in a moment.

"His tail drew a third
of the stars of heaven,
00:09:39.57\00:09:41.51
and threw them to the earth.
00:09:41.54\00:09:42.88
And the dragon stood
before the woman who was
00:09:42.91\00:09:44.85
ready to give
birth, to devour her Child
00:09:44.88\00:09:47.65
as soon as it was born."

Once again, a peek into
what happened when Jesus

was being born and
the edict sent out by

the Roman governor to kill all

children 2 years old
and under in an attempt

to defeat the baby Jesus.

But you know, Jesus
had more secret service
00:10:06.94\00:10:09.07
than Donald Trump
and the Lord hid Him.
00:10:09.10\00:10:13.54
He couldn't defeat
Him, so that Child was born
00:10:13.58\00:10:16.38
and the verse says, in verse 5,
00:10:16.41\00:10:18.15
"And she bore a male Child
who was to rule all nations
00:10:20.98\00:10:24.45
with a rod of iron and her Child
00:10:24.49\00:10:25.85
was caught up to
God and to His throne."
00:10:25.89\00:10:27.32
That's at the
end of His ministry.
00:10:27.36\00:10:29.56
But, now it goes on to
this dragon who doesn't like
00:10:29.59\00:10:32.93
the Child of the woman, so
he now goes after the woman,
00:10:32.96\00:10:36.13
so what does she have to do?
00:10:36.16\00:10:37.50
The woman fled into the
wilderness; verse 5, where she
00:10:37.53\00:10:39.97
had a place prepared by God
that He should feed her there
00:10:40.00\00:10:44.31
or they should feed her there.
00:10:44.34\00:10:45.67
How long? 1,260 days.
00:10:45.71\00:10:48.64
During the time of persecution
during the Dark Ages,

the Lord preserved His
church during that time.

And the Bible goes on
further to say, in verse 13,

I want to just give
you an interlude there...

in verse 13 which continues
the picture in verse 6.

"Now when the dragon saw that
he had been cast to the earth,
00:11:06.80\00:11:10.23
He persecuted the woman who
gave birth to the male child,
00:11:10.27\00:11:14.10
but the woman was given
two wings of a great eagle,
00:11:14.14\00:11:17.07
that she might fly into
the wilderness to her place,
00:11:17.11\00:11:20.74
where she is nourished for a
time and times and half a time,
00:11:20.78\00:11:23.75
from the
presence of the serpent."

Once again, 1,260 days.

The church looked as though
it was about to be extinguished,

but God had a plan and
we're going to see what

that plan is as
we go on further.

But now, the Reformation which
happened during that 1,260 year

period - the devil tried to
wash even the Reformation away.

That's what the very
next verse talks about.

Verse 15... "So the serpent
spewed water out of his mouth
00:11:47.57\00:11:50.91
like a flood after the
woman, that he might cause her
00:11:50.94\00:11:54.81
to be carried
away by the flood."

Water in the Bible,
Revelation 17:15 means "people
00:11:56.78\00:12:00.32
or multitudes and nations."
00:12:00.35\00:12:01.88
The devil created a
counter-Reformation and
00:12:01.92\00:12:05.35
people in the category of
art and music and science,
00:12:05.39\00:12:08.36
and philosophy - the
Roman Church began a movement
00:12:08.39\00:12:11.46
to distract from the
Reformation and was called
00:12:11.49\00:12:15.33
the counter-Reformation.
00:12:15.36\00:12:16.73
But the Lord, once
again, knew that He had to give
00:12:16.77\00:12:20.97
the woman an
opportunity to survive...

and so He raised
up another nation.

It says here in verse
16... "But the earth helped
00:12:26.31\00:12:30.21
the woman and the earth
opened its mouth and swallowed
00:12:30.25\00:12:33.58
up the flood which the dragon
had spewed out of his mouth."

So we'll talk about that
nation... I'm not going to...

As-a-matter-of-fact,
that's another lesson coming up

the serpent of old) was enraged

woman, and he went to make war

with the remnant of her seed,
(or the rest of her offspring...

who are they?), who
keep the commandments of God

testimony of Jesus Christ."

When Christians and Satan agree,
we are having a difficult time..

taught the commandments of God

and they have joined Satan

of the commandment-keeping

pay for being the enemy.

So we see, he felt

get a better picture of it,"

He could no longer

gave birth to the male Child."

The dragon is Satan and
the woman - the people of God

both from the Old

are referred to as a woman.

And the woman is the

You know, the persecution,

What they did was -
God had given them dominion

over the earth - they
transferred dominion to Satan.

So now, Satan has
gained access to heaven again,

as the earth's representative.

So he first rages against the
woman before Christ was born.

The Old Testament,
people of God, were persecuted

in so many ways, but the
most intense time, I think, was

during Christ's ministry and
what he did to Jesus, obviously.

But because Christ
became our second Adam,

Christ took on our flesh.

had the first Adam who failed.

the earth and the accuser of the

God's covenant love-language,

what I did to the Egyptians,

That's God's
covenant love-language.

it says, "The Lord's portion

is His people - He
found them in a desert land,

and in the
wasteland, a howling wilderness;

He encircled him,
instructed him, He kept him as

are the apple of God's eye)

And as an eagle stirs up
its nest and hovers over its

young; spreading out
its wings, taking them up,

carrying them on its wings,

So the Lord alone led them."

So what we need to remember,
just like when an eagle

how to fly, and it protects it

from danger - we need
to remember as God's weak,

helpless people, He is always
there for us and we must have

faith in His divine power.

So now verse 13... She is
taken out into this wilderness

where she is nourished for a
time, times and a half a time

from the
presence of the serpent.

So God is watching over
her; He's nourishing her

just like He nourished
Israel in the desert when He

gave them manna.

He is nourishing the

I want to take the
time and try to do this...

There are three different terms
in the Bible (descriptions)

We see them as

All three of those are
equal and I'm going to tell you

in advance and then
I'll prove it - they all mean

1,260 year period.

Now, in the Bible, there
is a principle that we apply

to prophecy - that a day
in prophecy equals a year,

and the two Scriptures
I'll give you for that is

Numbers 14:34 that says,
"According to the number of

the days in which you
spied out the land (40 days),

for each day, you shall
bear your guilt one year,"

(namely 40 years).

And then, their 40 days, that
led to rebellion corresponded

with the predicted 40 years
of wandering in the desert.

And Ezekiel 4:5 establishes
the same principle, he says...

"I've laid on you the
years of their iniquity

according to the
number of their days (390),

of the house of Israel."

So in prophecy, it's a
day for a year; 1,260 days

Now Bible prophecy was
established on the Jewish

calendar had a 30-day month...

wasn't established till 1582.

between you and the woman,

But the devil comes in
with this concept, after hearing

focus his attention on this Seed

people are being persecuted

And so he follows it

come down to the end of time.

in the time of the end prior

Why is Satan making
war against this remnant?

One of the common questions
that I would get from some

people would say, you
know, "How can I know;

how can I make
sure that I'm a part of

that remnant group
at the end of time?

How can I make sure that I
am a part of the camp of the

saints that will make it
into the Kingdom of God?"

Well the best way to do
that is to go into the Scripture

life, your beliefs, your idea,

to understand those deep

messages from Bible prophecy.

They can be theological;

deceptions; lies from the enemy:

God is selfish and
cruel; God is the author of

suffering and sin;
God's law can't be kept;

and He doesn't love me;

prayers; God cannot forgive

the many deceptions, the lies

three keys, Pastor John, you

to avoiding spiritual deception

develop spiritual discernment

want to avoid the deception...

spiritual discernment.

So let's look first at
the three keys to avoiding

spiritual deception...
#1. Recognize its danger.

You know, my uncle used to live
in suburbia, we really live in
00:50:55.02\00:50:58.29
country here in southern
Illinois, but my uncle lived in
00:50:58.32\00:51:00.79
suburbia until he moved
to a large city which I won't
00:51:00.86\00:51:04.33
mention... he takes the train
every day and goes downtown
00:51:04.36\00:51:08.80
for his place of work.
00:51:08.83\00:51:10.83
When he first rode the train,
he kind of came from suburbia
00:51:11.50\00:51:15.34
so that was his background,
but he learned, very quickly,

to recognize the danger of
people who want to mug you;

people who want
to pick your pocket.

And he started every day,
he carries a whole stack of

money, all one-dollar
bills with a 20 on the bottom.

And so when someone
says, "Hey, I want your money,"

he can throw it and it's worth
almost nothing because it's

just dollar bills but it
looks like a big stack of money.

So he learned to
recognize the danger.

and practice the word of God.

enables you and I to discern the
