Sure. 00:01:49.20\00:01:52.47 Loving Father in Heaven... We commit our hearts to You 00:01:52.51\00:01:55.38 this morning. We know that this is Your Word and You said, 00:01:55.41\00:01:58.88 "If anyone lack wisdom, let him ask." Give us wisdom 00:01:58.91\00:02:02.58 this morning, Father. There is such a diversity of 00:02:02.62\00:02:05.69 understandings of even this particular prophecy, but 00:02:05.72\00:02:09.12 we want Jesus to be exalted, and so come and unify 00:02:09.16\00:02:12.79 us and may the understanding be followed by a desire 00:02:12.83\00:02:17.27 to commit our hearts to Christ. In Jesus name, we pray... Amen 00:02:17.33\00:02:23.17 I think it would behoove us to have a quick review. 00:02:23.20\00:02:27.24 A couple of weeks ago, we studied the seals and the 00:02:27.28\00:02:30.51 scene of the fifth seal... so let me go through that 00:02:30.55\00:02:32.88 real quickly - this is found in Revelation 6:9-10. 00:02:32.91\00:02:38.15 It says, "When He opened the fifth seal (and this would be 00:02:38.19\00:02:41.82 Jesus who is opening the seals) I saw under the altar the souls 00:02:41.86\00:02:45.99 of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the 00:02:46.03\00:02:49.03 testimony which they held, and they cried with a loud 00:02:49.06\00:02:52.70 voice saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You 00:02:52.73\00:02:57.61 judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" 00:02:57.64\00:03:02.94 We see here the cry of God's oppressed people from all ages; 00:03:02.98\00:03:08.22 now these people aren't really alive and crying out. 00:03:08.25\00:03:10.89 This was like the blood of Able that is crying out and they're 00:03:10.92\00:03:14.79 portrayed as souls under the altar of God crying for 00:03:14.82\00:03:18.83 justice and vindication and what we must remember is that 00:03:18.86\00:03:24.77 God hears these cries. 00:03:24.80\00:03:27.40 God is going to answer our prayers and this scene 00:03:27.44\00:03:32.87 that represents the suffering of God's people throughout 00:03:32.91\00:03:35.68 history is going to have a conclusion. 00:03:35.71\00:03:39.51 Now the opening of the sixth seal, in Revelation 6:12-17, 00:03:39.55\00:03:44.59 pictured Jesus return to the earth and bringing 00:03:44.62\00:03:47.42 judgment upon those who did evil on His followers. 00:03:47.46\00:03:51.73 Now let me pause and say this... 00:03:51.76\00:03:54.03 As Seventh-day Adventist Christians, we employ 00:03:54.10\00:03:58.27 the historicist method of interpretation to Revelation. 00:03:58.30\00:04:02.30 That's what Jesus used, Paul, Daniel, the prophets, 00:04:02.34\00:04:05.84 and what this means is that we believe that apocalyptic 00:04:05.87\00:04:11.55 prophecy covers the span from ancient times right up till 00:04:11.58\00:04:17.12 the coming of Jesus. 00:04:17.19\00:04:19.62 And we were going to apply that to the trumpets 00:04:19.65\00:04:23.36 and recognize some have been fulfilled; some are in the 00:04:23.43\00:04:27.23 process of fulfillment and some are soon to be fulfilled. 00:04:27.30\00:04:31.97 Now Revelation is written in visionary circles, 00:04:32.00\00:04:35.34 we call it recapitulation. 00:04:35.37\00:04:37.57 It's repeat and enlarge and we see that... Boy, I mean, 00:04:37.61\00:04:43.04 if you look at Daniel 2, Daniel 7, Daniel 8, and Daniel 11, 00:04:43.08\00:04:47.68 you'll see that in each one, Daniel states a summary 00:04:47.72\00:04:52.59 of a main point and then develops it a little further. 00:04:52.62\00:04:57.09 So the trumpets recapitulate the eras (the eras not errors) 00:04:57.13\00:05:06.20 but the different time periods of earth's history, 00:05:06.23\00:05:09.44 and they parallel other prophecies in Revelation. 00:05:09.47\00:05:14.11 Each parallel analyzes the historical period from 00:05:14.18\00:05:19.78 different and yet supplemental angles. 00:05:19.81\00:05:23.79 However, the purpose of the trumpets is clearly 00:05:23.82\00:05:28.62 different than that of the seven plagues. Amen? Amen. 00:05:28.66\00:05:32.06 So we haven't studied the plagues yet, that's coming up 00:05:32.09\00:05:34.30 in Revelation 16. 00:05:34.30\00:05:36.16 But the trumpets are limited to one-third of the earth, 00:05:36.20\00:05:40.50 so we see that there is still a redemptive purpose in this. 00:05:40.54\00:05:46.94 When the plagues are poured out, when God pours out 00:05:46.98\00:05:50.51 those final seven last plagues, that there is no redemptive 00:05:50.55\00:05:55.58 purpose - this is after probation has ended and He 00:05:55.62\00:05:59.19 is going to annihilate the wicked. 00:05:59.22\00:06:01.72 So Revelation chapters 8-11, I think you all will agree, 00:06:01.76\00:06:08.43 is one of the most difficult group of passages or 00:06:08.46\00:06:13.74 visionary cycles to interpret. 00:06:13.77\00:06:16.74 The language and the imagery is very complex and it has 00:06:16.81\00:06:21.41 resulted in a variety of views in application to specific 00:06:21.44\00:06:25.98 historical events, but it is still compatible with 00:06:26.01\00:06:30.29 the historicist method of interpretation. 00:06:30.32\00:06:32.89 So as we look at the apocalyptic nature of the 00:06:32.92\00:06:38.96 vision, we know that it is going to aim at a specific 00:06:38.99\00:06:46.17 time specific-enough to be located in one historical 00:06:46.20\00:06:51.31 event or another. 00:06:51.34\00:06:52.81 The vision of the seven trumpets demonstrates throughout 00:06:52.84\00:06:58.55 history, God has intervened on behalf of His oppressed 00:06:58.58\00:07:02.82 people and has judged those who harm them. 00:07:02.85\00:07:07.09 The purpose of the seven trumpets is to ensure God's 00:07:07.12\00:07:11.36 people that He's not indifferent to their suffering. 00:07:11.39\00:07:14.83 So let's look at our memory verse... Revelation 10:7, 00:07:14.86\00:07:20.74 "But in the days of the sounding of the seventh 00:07:22.70\00:07:25.07 angel, when he is about to sound, the mystery of God 00:07:25.11\00:07:29.51 would be finished as He declared to His servants 00:07:29.54\00:07:35.05 the prophets." 00:07:35.08\00:07:36.72 I have Sunday's lesson, "The Prayers of the Saints" 00:07:36.79\00:07:42.49 And if you open your Bibles to Revelation 8:1-2, 00:07:42.52\00:07:48.16 we'll go through the prayer of the saints quickly. 00:07:48.20\00:07:50.83 "When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence 00:07:50.87\00:07:55.94 in heaven for about half an hour. 00:07:55.97\00:07:58.01 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, 00:07:58.04\00:08:00.84 and to them were given seven trumpets." 00:08:00.91\00:08:05.21 So this opens with the picture of seven angels, 00:08:05.25\00:08:08.45 and they are standing before God ready to blow their 00:08:08.48\00:08:11.65 trumpets... but before the trumpets are blown, 00:08:11.69\00:08:15.52 another scene is inserted that is going to explain 00:08:15.56\00:08:20.53 the theological meaning of the trumpets. 00:08:20.56\00:08:23.30 Revelation 8 continuing in verse 3... "Then another angel, 00:08:23.37\00:08:28.70 having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. 00:08:28.74\00:08:32.87 What altar would this be, if we've got the golden censer, 00:08:32.91\00:08:36.61 he's standing at the altar... This is the altar of incense. 00:08:36.64\00:08:40.12 He was given much incense that he should offer it with 00:08:40.15\00:08:43.15 the prayers of the saints upon the golden altar 00:08:43.18\00:08:46.15 which was before the throne. 00:08:46.19\00:08:47.72 And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, 00:08:47.76\00:08:50.96 ascended before God from the angel's hand. 00:08:50.99\00:08:55.33 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the 00:08:55.36\00:09:00.30 altar and he threw it to the earth. And there were noises, 00:09:00.37\00:09:05.24 thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake." 00:09:05.27\00:09:10.11 Now we have mentioned on several occasions that the imagery, 00:09:10.18\00:09:15.28 the symbolic imagery of Revelation is found throughout 00:09:15.32\00:09:20.79 the Bible - more specifically in the Old Testament. 00:09:20.82\00:09:23.96 In Revelation 8:3-5, that we just read, 00:09:23.99\00:09:28.03 is language of the evening temple service. 00:09:28.06\00:09:33.44 A Jewish Commentary on the Bible explains the evening sacrifice; 00:09:33.47\00:09:38.54 the lamb was placed upon the altar of burnt offering; 00:09:38.87\00:09:43.65 blood was poured at the base of the altar, and an appointed 00:09:43.68\00:09:48.48 priest would take the golden censer inside the temple 00:09:48.52\00:09:53.56 and he would offer incense on the golden altar of incense. 00:09:53.59\00:09:59.66 Now that was the third piece, you remember we had 00:09:59.69\00:10:03.33 the table of showbread, the seven candles, 00:10:03.37\00:10:06.20 and then right in front of the veil was the altar of incense, 00:10:06.23\00:10:12.04 so when the priest would come out, he would take 00:10:12.07\00:10:16.71 that censer throw it down on the pavement and it would 00:10:16.75\00:10:22.68 produce a loud noise, and at that point, the rest of the 00:10:22.72\00:10:28.26 priests would blow their trumpets - marking the end 00:10:28.29\00:10:32.26 of the temple services for the day. 00:10:32.29\00:10:34.66 So we see that same imagery in our passage in 00:10:34.73\00:10:39.83 Revelation 8. 00:10:39.87\00:10:41.40 So the incense represents the prayers of God's people. 00:10:41.44\00:10:47.01 Let me read Revelation 5:8... "When He had taken the scroll, 00:10:47.04\00:10:51.05 the four living creatures and the 24 elders fell down 00:10:51.08\00:10:55.82 before the Lamb, each having a harp and golden bowls 00:10:55.85\00:11:00.96 full of incense which are what? The prayers of the saints. 00:11:00.99\00:11:05.49 It's just like in Psalm 141 when he said, "Let my prayer 00:11:05.53\00:11:10.27 be set before you as incense, lifting up of my hands 00:11:10.33\00:11:15.20 as the evening sacrifice." 00:11:15.24\00:11:17.27 So the golden altar of incense represents the prayers 00:11:17.31\00:11:21.74 of the saints in the intercessory ministry of Jesus 00:11:22.08\00:11:27.18 Christ whose prayers are continually 00:11:27.22\00:11:30.89 offered on our behalf. 00:11:30.95\00:11:32.75 He intercedes for us and is able to save to the uttermost. 00:11:32.79\00:11:37.59 Now Revelation 8:3 said that the angel that had the golden 00:11:37.63\00:11:42.56 censor came and stood at the altar and it says that he was 00:11:42.60\00:11:48.90 given much incense that he should offer it with 00:11:48.94\00:11:54.38 the prayers of the saints. 00:11:54.41\00:11:55.84 I think that incense is Jesus' intercessory ministry. 00:11:55.88\00:12:00.85 It think it's the prayers of Jesus, you know, as 00:12:00.92\00:12:04.19 Hebrews 7:25 says... "He is interceding for us always." 00:12:04.22\00:12:08.99 So this is a beautiful thing that we see and the angel 00:12:09.02\00:12:13.90 that offers these prayers before God, God is now 00:12:13.93\00:12:20.20 hearing the prayers of His persecuted people. 00:12:20.24\00:12:22.84 So the seven trumpets are God's judgment... 00:12:22.87\00:12:28.48 this is setting us up to see they're God's judgment on the 00:12:28.51\00:12:33.18 rebellious people of humanity in response to the prayers 00:12:33.21\00:12:39.29 of His oppressed people. 00:12:39.32\00:12:41.06 The trumpets follow the death of Jesus as the Lamb, 00:12:41.09\00:12:45.69 and they run consecutively throughout history 00:12:45.73\00:12:49.36 until the second coming. 00:12:49.40\00:12:51.70 In this last minute, let me show you one thing... 00:12:51.73\00:12:54.80 If we compare Revelation 8:5 with Ezekiel 10:2, 00:12:54.84\00:12:59.17 we find what is the source of this fire that's thrown upon 00:12:59.21\00:13:05.81 the enemies of God. 00:13:05.85\00:13:07.22 So we said in Revelation 8:5, "The angel took the censer, 00:13:07.25\00:13:10.79 filled it with fire from the altar and threw it to the earth; 00:13:10.82\00:13:13.56 Ezekiel 10:2 says, "... Go in among the wheels, under the 00:13:13.59\00:13:18.99 cherub, fill your hands with coals of fire from among 00:13:19.03\00:13:23.83 the cherubim and scatter them over the city." 00:13:23.87\00:13:27.54 So the angel is filling this censer with fire from the 00:13:27.60\00:13:32.71 altar, hurls it down to the earth and it shows 00:13:32.74\00:13:38.01 that the seven trumpets that are about to be blown 00:13:38.05\00:13:41.92 will be judgments on the inhabitants of the earth 00:13:41.95\00:13:45.29 who persecuted God's people. 00:13:45.32\00:13:47.69 The whole idea is that God doesn't forget His people. 00:13:48.39\00:13:53.13 He is going to answer their prayers and intervene 00:13:53.16\00:13:57.43 on their behalf. Amen! John... 00:13:57.50\00:13:58.83 Thank you Shelley, what a wonderful opening 00:13:58.87\00:14:01.40 and each one of us is going to contribute something 00:14:01.44\00:14:03.91 different to the understanding of the seven trumpets. 00:14:03.94\00:14:06.24 When I say different, a harmonious connection 00:14:06.27\00:14:08.81 but each has a link in the chain. 00:14:08.84\00:14:11.28 The seven trumpets has been a subject of so much 00:14:11.58\00:14:14.12 misunderstanding and I'm so thankful that 00:14:14.15\00:14:18.82 Dr. Ranko Stefanovic and the committee that worked on 00:14:18.85\00:14:21.36 this lesson has taken the time to calibrate our understanding, 00:14:21.39\00:14:26.63 to give the context and the clear meaning. 00:14:26.70\00:14:30.47 Shelley was very apropos that you mentioned that 00:14:30.53\00:14:32.60 the seven trumpets is God's response in answer 00:14:32.63\00:14:36.04 to the prayers of the saints. 00:14:36.07\00:14:37.91 But when you look at the history of the people of God, 00:14:37.94\00:14:40.94 you'll find that one thing is for sure - the Lord has always 00:14:40.98\00:14:44.88 defended His people. Yes, Amen! 00:14:44.91\00:14:47.08 And throughout each component of time in history, 00:14:47.12\00:14:50.55 whenever the people of God have come up against 00:14:50.59\00:14:52.69 oppression or a nation that's rebellious or a people 00:14:52.72\00:14:55.86 that are trying to stamp them out, 00:14:55.89\00:14:57.23 God always stood in behalf of His people... 00:14:57.29\00:14:59.43 as he said to them when they were in the wilderness, 00:14:59.49\00:15:01.46 He said, "The battle belongs to the Lord." Amen! 00:15:01.53\00:15:03.40 And so the battle tools of God are symbolized in natural 00:15:03.47\00:15:07.47 elements. 00:15:07.54\00:15:08.87 And so you see here... if I go ahead and peek at 00:15:08.90\00:15:12.67 the imagery, one of the things that is pointed out in 00:15:12.71\00:15:16.51 the lesson is that trumpets have a tremendous role 00:15:16.54\00:15:20.45 to play throughout the Bible. 00:15:20.52\00:15:22.85 I think one of the first things I'd like to do is establish 00:15:22.88\00:15:25.12 trumpets throughout the Bible. 00:15:25.15\00:15:27.26 One of the things we pointed out, and this is true throughout 00:15:27.29\00:15:29.86 the whole study of Revelation, is anytime the Bible gives 00:15:29.89\00:15:33.33 a symbol, the Bible also defines the symbol. Amen! 00:15:33.40\00:15:36.33 No prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 00:15:36.36\00:15:39.53 1 Peter 1:20-21. 00:15:39.57\00:15:42.50 Everything that happens in Scripture has to have 00:15:42.54\00:15:44.87 it's interpretation in Scripture. 00:15:44.91\00:15:47.34 So you'll see that the picture that is given here, 00:15:47.38\00:15:49.88 in the interlude between the silence in heaven, 00:15:49.91\00:15:52.78 in Jewish literature, they call that silence in heaven, 00:15:52.81\00:15:55.38 "The great pause," before God steps in behalf of His people; 00:15:55.42\00:15:59.89 before God steps in and now begins to respond to the 00:15:59.92\00:16:04.63 prayers of His saints. 00:16:04.66\00:16:06.93 But look at Numbers 10:8-10, showing how the trumpets 00:16:06.96\00:16:10.77 had such a role to play in many areas because, remember, 00:16:10.80\00:16:15.47 Revelation is a book that was written in the mindset 00:16:15.50\00:16:20.28 of the Old Testament because when John wrote this 00:16:20.31\00:16:23.55 there was no New Testament. 00:16:23.58\00:16:25.11 He would later become a part of the New Testament. 00:16:25.15\00:16:28.05 And so we have to find the language in the Old Testament 00:16:28.08\00:16:30.49 that endorses the imagery that is revealed in Revelation. 00:16:30.52\00:16:34.06 The overview: Numbers 10:8-10, do you have that Jill? Yes! 00:16:34.09\00:16:39.33 "The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets, 00:16:39.36\00:16:42.26 (that's #1) and these shall be brought you as an 00:16:42.30\00:16:44.23 ordinance forever throughout your generations. (keep going) 00:16:44.27\00:16:47.00 When you go to war in your land against the enemy who 00:16:47.04\00:16:49.70 oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets 00:16:49.74\00:16:53.01 and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, 00:16:53.04\00:16:55.64 and you will be saved from your enemies. 00:16:55.68\00:16:57.78 Also in the day of your gladness, in your appointed 00:16:57.81\00:17:00.65 feasts, and at the beginning of your months, you shall 00:17:00.68\00:17:03.15 blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and offer 00:17:03.18\00:17:05.69 the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be 00:17:05.72\00:17:08.59 a memorial for you before your God: I am the Lord your God." 00:17:08.62\00:17:12.43 Notice how the trumpets all throughout various activities 00:17:12.46\00:17:16.30 shall blow them in an ordinance, announcing the ordinances; 00:17:16.33\00:17:21.94 also sounding of the trumpet when it comes to war. 00:17:21.97\00:17:25.01 Recently, this is not too long ago actually, a few months ago, 00:17:25.04\00:17:30.18 when President Bush's funeral took place, there's a 00:17:30.25\00:17:35.42 difference between the sound of a trumpet for war; 00:17:35.45\00:17:37.99 the sound of a trumpet for Taps, 00:17:38.02\00:17:40.56 and the sound of a trumpet for a memorial... dada-da, dada-da, 00:17:40.59\00:17:44.53 we know that's not the sound of war, 00:17:44.76\00:17:46.26 we can tell just by the sound of the trumpet and the 00:17:46.29\00:17:49.03 Apostle Paul says the trumpet has to give a certain sound. 00:17:49.06\00:17:51.97 And so we find the overview in the economy of the Jews, 00:17:52.00\00:17:55.40 trumpets played a major role. 00:17:55.44\00:17:57.01 So because the Book of Revelation is written in 00:17:57.07\00:17:59.84 sanctuary language, it cannot omit the applications 00:17:59.87\00:18:03.78 the trumpets established in the Old Testament. 00:18:03.81\00:18:06.15 Another reason for trumpets in Ezekiel 33, 00:18:06.18\00:18:09.58 trumpets is a warning of coming destruction, 00:18:09.62\00:18:13.19 verse 3 and 4 says, speaking about the watchman... 00:18:13.22\00:18:15.96 "... when he sees the sword coming upon the land, 00:18:15.99\00:18:17.83 if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, 00:18:17.86\00:18:20.33 then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not 00:18:20.36\00:18:22.43 take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, 00:18:22.46\00:18:25.13 his blood shall be on his own head." 00:18:25.17\00:18:27.74 So the trumpet is used again for a warning... 00:18:27.77\00:18:30.41 destruction is coming. 00:18:30.44\00:18:32.07 Another one, the trumpet symbolizes the preaching 00:18:32.11\00:18:36.08 of the gospel, Isaiah 58:1, "Lift up your voice 00:18:36.11\00:18:39.01 like a "trumpet;" shew My people their transgression 00:18:39.05\00:18:42.05 and the house of Jacob their sins." 00:18:42.08\00:18:43.49 Once again the trumpets' imagery and I'm 00:18:43.52\00:18:45.52 reiterating this because we cannot depart from the 00:18:45.55\00:18:48.09 language of the Scriptures when the interpretation 00:18:48.12\00:18:50.73 is sought for. 00:18:50.76\00:18:52.09 The Bible establishes it in such a wonderful cadence, 00:18:52.13\00:18:54.73 to go outside of that framework, 00:18:54.73\00:18:56.23 is a private interpretation. 00:18:56.26\00:18:58.03 The other application for trumpets is the announcement 00:18:58.07\00:19:00.57 of coming judgments. 00:19:00.60\00:19:01.94 Joel 2:1-2, I'll read that because of the importance 00:19:01.97\00:19:05.21 of time... It says, "Blow the trumpets in Zion and sound 00:19:05.24\00:19:08.28 an alarm in My holy mountain! 00:19:08.31\00:19:10.48 Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; 00:19:10.51\00:19:12.35 For the day of the Lord is coming." 00:19:12.38\00:19:14.72 In the day of the Lord motif, the trumpets are used by 00:19:14.75\00:19:19.12 Joel and also Zephaniah, warning of the coming of 00:19:19.15\00:19:22.69 the day of the Lord and it shows that when these 00:19:22.72\00:19:25.79 trumpets are sounded, you have a day of darkness and 00:19:25.83\00:19:28.00 gloominess, a day of thick clouds and you see that it's 00:19:28.03\00:19:30.97 preceded by the judgments of God on the land. 00:19:31.97\00:19:35.20 But Joel is saying, "When you hear that, you'll know 00:19:35.24\00:19:38.07 these signs indicate these trumpets being sounded 00:19:38.11\00:19:41.11 indicate the coming of God's judgments. 00:19:41.14\00:19:44.08 Another one, we talked about that - the Day of Atonement. 00:19:44.15\00:19:47.05 Leviticus 23:23, the announcement of the 00:19:47.12\00:19:50.59 atonement work... verse 23 says, "Then the Lord spoke to 00:19:50.62\00:19:54.49 Moses, saying, "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 00:19:54.52\00:19:57.13 "In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, 00:19:57.16\00:19:58.76 you shall have a Sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of 00:19:58.79\00:20:03.13 trumpets, a holy convocation." 00:20:03.16\00:20:05.67 And so we find again, once again it's used in the 00:20:05.70\00:20:08.17 atonement services. 00:20:08.20\00:20:09.57 When the trumpet was sounded, they knew they had nine 00:20:09.60\00:20:11.41 more days left before the Day of Atonement. 00:20:11.44\00:20:14.78 That trumpet was an indication that probation is closing, 00:20:14.81\00:20:17.65 and it's time to repent your sins so that when the 00:20:17.68\00:20:20.88 atonement work is over, your sins will be blotted out. 00:20:20.92\00:20:24.52 Then you'll be allowed in the Feast of Tabernacles, which was 00:20:24.55\00:20:27.99 a seven-day celebration. 00:20:28.02\00:20:29.49 Another application, the trumpet 00:20:29.52\00:20:31.53 sound indicates the noise of war. 00:20:31.56\00:20:33.23 We know Joshua, the battle of...? Jericho. 00:20:33.26\00:20:36.50 And we find clearly, when they walked around and they 00:20:36.53\00:20:40.27 continued blowing the trumpets and when they got 00:20:40.30\00:20:41.97 to the seventh day; seven times on the seventh day, 00:20:42.00\00:20:44.51 the blowing of trumpets, the sound of war, 00:20:44.54\00:20:46.07 preparation for victory. 00:20:46.11\00:20:47.74 Also, the trumpets are used when Jesus returns. 00:20:47.78\00:20:51.88 "He shall send His angels with a great sound of a...? Trumpet, 00:20:51.91\00:20:55.38 Matthew 24:31. 00:20:55.42\00:20:57.32 So the trumpets, once again... 1 Thessalonians, "The Lord, 00:20:57.35\00:20:59.89 Himself, will descend from heaven with a shout, 00:20:59.92\00:21:01.79 with the trumpet of God." 00:21:01.82\00:21:03.63 So the Bible is continuing, and then Revelation 1:10... 00:21:03.66\00:21:07.03 "I heard the sound of the Lord 00:21:07.10\00:21:08.40 behind me like as of a...? Trumpet! 00:21:08.43\00:21:10.93 So you find the Bible is not elusive on the application, 00:21:10.97\00:21:14.84 but the Bible is replete with the understanding 00:21:14.87\00:21:17.61 of what the trumpets mean. 00:21:17.64\00:21:18.97 So when you begin to see these judgments... 00:21:19.01\00:21:20.64 and there's a quotation here I want to read from Manuscript 59. 00:21:20.68\00:21:27.22 And thank you, Shelley, for giving us the preview in 00:21:27.28\00:21:30.39 Revelation 6 and 7 because the trumpets 00:21:30.45\00:21:33.72 are a part of the seals. 00:21:33.76\00:21:36.22 It starts unfolding onto the seventh seal. 00:21:36.26\00:21:39.13 Listen to this, it says, "Revelation 6 and 7 are full 00:21:39.16\00:21:43.50 of meaning; "Terrible are the judgments of God revealed." 00:21:43.53\00:21:47.30 Manuscript 59- 1895, p. 26. 00:21:47.37\00:21:51.44 "The seven angels stood before God to receive their commission. 00:21:51.47\00:21:55.38 To them were given seven trumpets. 00:21:55.41\00:21:57.61 The Lord was going forth to punish the inhabitants 00:21:57.65\00:22:00.45 of the earth for their iniquity. 00:22:00.52\00:22:02.45 And the earth was to disclose her blood and no more 00:22:02.48\00:22:04.55 cover her slain." 00:22:04.59\00:22:05.92 And so when you talk about that, she goes on further 00:22:05.95\00:22:08.22 to say... "But there are mercies mixed with judgments." 00:22:08.26\00:22:11.96 One-third, the one-third, these are redemptive 00:22:11.99\00:22:15.10 judgments that will be followed by executive judgments. 00:22:15.13\00:22:18.97 The Lord is saying - You need to know that time is winding up, 00:22:19.00\00:22:22.27 and if you take advantage of the blowing of the trumpets, 00:22:22.30\00:22:25.04 9 days before the Day of Atonement, 00:22:25.07\00:22:27.34 if you make provision for your sins to be forgiven, 00:22:27.38\00:22:30.51 they will be blotted out; but if they're not blotted out, 00:22:30.55\00:22:33.62 the mercy is moved and then the seven last plagues. 00:22:33.68\00:22:37.29 So the same period... the seven churches, the seven seals, 00:22:37.35\00:22:40.46 the seven trumpets, they run concurrent unfolding 00:22:40.52\00:22:44.73 the history of God. 00:22:44.76\00:22:46.09 The seven trumpets, however, specifically talks about God's 00:22:46.13\00:22:49.26 intervention in behalf of His people. 00:22:49.30\00:22:52.00 Making it very clear... in other words, it's apropos, 00:22:52.03\00:22:55.70 I'm not going to keep silent anymore 00:22:55.74\00:22:58.21 than a trumpet is silent. 00:22:58.24\00:22:59.57 The Lord shall come and shall not keep silent. 00:22:59.61\00:23:01.91 He's never silent in behalf of His people. 00:23:01.94\00:23:04.58 In summary, it says, the first two trumpets herald 00:23:04.61\00:23:08.28 judgments upon the nation that crucified Christ 00:23:08.32\00:23:10.42 and persecuted the early church. 00:23:10.49\00:23:12.12 Rebellious Jerusalem and the Roman Empire - they united 00:23:12.15\00:23:14.99 in the persecution of Christ. 00:23:15.02\00:23:16.93 The third and fourth trumpets portray heaven's 00:23:16.96\00:23:19.03 judgments against the apostasy of the Christian 00:23:19.06\00:23:21.00 Church in the medieval period. 00:23:21.03\00:23:22.90 And the fifth and sixth trumpets describe the warring factions 00:23:22.93\00:23:26.60 in the religious world during the late medieval and 00:23:26.63\00:23:28.90 post reformation periods. 00:23:28.94\00:23:30.67 These periods are characterized by increasing demonic activity 00:23:30.71\00:23:34.58 that ultimately draws the world into the battle of Armageddon. 00:23:34.61\00:23:37.98 And lastly, Revelation 9, speaks about the introduction of 00:23:38.01\00:23:43.65 that demonic activity when it says, "I saw a star that had 00:23:43.69\00:23:47.22 fallen from heaven to the earth, to him was given the key 00:23:47.26\00:23:49.82 to the bottomless pit." 00:23:49.86\00:23:51.23 The first time the bottomless pit is introduced, but is only 00:23:51.26\00:23:54.30 seven times in Revelation, and it's defined as the 00:23:54.30\00:23:57.73 angel of the bottomless pit, the only star that fell 00:23:57.77\00:24:00.94 from heaven that the Bible substantiates is Satan himself. 00:24:00.97\00:24:04.64 Ezekiel, Revelation, John chapter 10, Luke 10:18, 00:24:04.67\00:24:09.74 and also Revelation 9... the angel of the bottomless pit 00:24:09.78\00:24:15.08 that brings about this demonic activity is Satan himself. Amen! 00:24:15.12\00:24:19.42 Oh John, thank you, you are so well versed in Revelation 00:24:19.45\00:24:22.72 and I know the trumpets is one of your favorite topics. 00:24:22.76\00:24:26.63 Well we have to take just a quick break. 00:24:26.70\00:24:29.10 Don't go away, we'll be right back! 00:24:29.13\00:24:31.40 Ever wish you could watch a 3ABN Sabbath School Panel 00:24:36.17\00:24:38.97 again or share it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter? 00:24:39.01\00:24:42.64 Well, you can... by visiting 3ABN Sabbath School Panel.com 00:24:42.68\00:24:47.58 A clean design makes it easy to find the 00:24:47.62\00:24:50.75 program you're looking for. 00:24:50.79\00:24:52.12 There are also links to the Adult Bible Study Guide 00:24:52.15\00:24:55.76 so you can follow along. 00:24:55.79\00:24:57.59 Sharing is easy, just click "share," and choose your 00:24:57.63\00:25:00.63 favorite social media. 00:25:00.66\00:25:01.96 Share a link, save a life, for eternity! 00:25:02.00\00:25:06.20 Now we will continue with our study with Jill Morikone on 00:25:08.17\00:25:11.94 "The Angel With an Open Book" 00:25:11.97\00:25:14.34 Amen, thank you so much, Shelley and Pastor John 00:25:14.38\00:25:17.05 for what a wonderful introduction 00:25:17.08\00:25:18.48 to the Seven Trumpets. Amen! 00:25:18.51\00:25:19.85 I could listen to Pastor John teach on the Seven Trumpets 00:25:19.88\00:25:21.85 all day because of your knowledge of the Word of God, 00:25:21.88\00:25:24.72 specifically the Seven Trumpets. 00:25:24.75\00:25:26.59 I have "The Angel With an Open Book" 00:25:26.62\00:25:28.62 which begins in Revelation 10, so just turn over a page 00:25:28.66\00:25:32.46 to Revelation 10. 00:25:32.49\00:25:34.10 The sixth trumpet brings us to the time period of the 00:25:34.10\00:25:37.57 time of the end and there's an interlude, as it were, inserted 00:25:37.60\00:25:41.54 right after the sixth trumpet and we just finished 00:25:41.57\00:25:43.37 that in Revelation 9. 00:25:43.47\00:25:44.81 In Revelation 10 and part of Revelation 11 is this interlude. 00:25:44.84\00:25:49.01 Remember when we studied the seals, we had an interlude 00:25:49.04\00:25:51.75 from Revelation 6, the end of the sixth seal. 00:25:51.78\00:25:55.42 Remember they said, "The great day of His wrath is coming, 00:25:55.45\00:25:57.55 who is able to stand?" 00:25:57.59\00:25:58.92 And then it talked about the sealing of the saints of God 00:25:58.95\00:26:02.02 and the 144,000, and then we jumped into the seventh seal. 00:26:02.06\00:26:06.13 So the similar thing happens here and that there's a little 00:26:06.16\00:26:08.93 interlude inserted between the sixth trumpet 00:26:08.96\00:26:11.97 and the seventh trumpet. 00:26:12.00\00:26:13.57 So "The Angel With an Open Book," let's just pick up 00:26:13.64\00:26:15.57 with verse 1... "I saw still another mighty angel coming 00:26:15.60\00:26:20.98 down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. 00:26:21.01\00:26:23.11 And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, 00:26:23.14\00:26:26.48 and his feet like pillars of fire." 00:26:26.51\00:26:29.42 So who is this mighty angel who has come down? 00:26:29.45\00:26:32.52 He has four descriptive words that describe him, 00:26:32.55\00:26:36.93 and this is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Amen! 00:26:36.96\00:26:40.20 The description is clothed with a cloud, a rainbow on his head, 00:26:40.70\00:26:44.97 face shining like the sun and feet like pillars of fire. 00:26:45.00\00:26:49.90 If you think about clothed with a cloud, the Scriptures 00:26:49.97\00:26:53.01 associate clouds with the appearance of Christ. 00:26:53.04\00:26:56.64 Daniel 7:13, Daniel was in vision and he's watching 00:26:56.71\00:26:59.91 in the night vision and "Behold, One like the Son of Man 00:27:00.05\00:27:02.88 coming with the clouds of heaven." 00:27:02.92\00:27:05.62 Acts 1:9, when Jesus descended, "Now when He had spoken 00:27:05.65\00:27:09.12 these things, while they watched, He was taken up, 00:27:09.16\00:27:11.96 and a cloud received Him out of their sight." 00:27:11.99\00:27:15.70 Revelation 1:7, the second coming of Christ... 00:27:15.73\00:27:17.93 "Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye 00:27:17.97\00:27:21.50 will see him, even they who pierced Him." 00:27:21.54\00:27:24.14 Revelation 14:14... "I looked and behold a white cloud, 00:27:25.21\00:27:28.24 and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man." 00:27:28.28\00:27:31.38 So here this mighty Angel is clothed with a cloud. 00:27:31.41\00:27:35.42 The cloud associates in Scripture with the appearance 00:27:35.45\00:27:38.62 of Christ. Then there's a rainbow on His head. 00:27:38.65\00:27:41.39 Revelation 4, we talked about the throne room of heaven. 00:27:41.42\00:27:45.73 Remember God the Father was there in the throne room. 00:27:45.76\00:27:47.86 And then Revelation 5, the Lamb, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, 00:27:47.93\00:27:51.37 joined the scene. 00:27:51.40\00:27:52.73 Revelation 4:3, "One sat on the throne, (this is God the Father) 00:27:52.77\00:27:57.31 and He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone 00:27:57.37\00:28:00.81 in appearance and there was a rainbow around the throne, 00:28:00.84\00:28:03.98 in appearance like an emerald." 00:28:04.01\00:28:05.81 There's the rainbow around the throne. 00:28:05.85\00:28:08.42 Ezekiel 1:28 says the same thing, with "A rainbow 00:28:08.45\00:28:12.19 around the throne." 00:28:12.22\00:28:13.59 Then "the face shining like the sun," that reminds me of 00:28:13.62\00:28:16.69 the vision John had in Revelation 1. 00:28:16.76\00:28:19.66 Christ among the lampstands. 00:28:19.69\00:28:22.26 Revelation 1:16 says, "His countenance was shining 00:28:22.30\00:28:25.53 like the sun in its strength." 00:28:25.57\00:28:28.07 And the fourth description is "feet like pillars of fire." 00:28:28.10\00:28:31.64 We think of Revelation 1:15, the same description of Christ 00:28:31.67\00:28:36.28 amongst the lampstands... His feet were like fine brass, 00:28:36.31\00:28:40.02 as if we find in a furnace. 00:28:40.05\00:28:41.72 So let's read verse 2 and we get to the little book. 00:28:41.75\00:28:44.62 Before you do that, let me insert because some people 00:28:44.65\00:28:46.76 are confused in saying, "How can you call Christ 00:28:46.79\00:28:49.29 an Angel?" The word "Angel" 00:28:49.32\00:28:51.16 just means messenger, we're not talking about Christ being 00:28:51.19\00:28:54.86 a created Angel. Good. 00:28:54.93\00:28:56.46 So I just wanted to make sure... that used to confuse me. 00:28:56.50\00:28:59.67 Thank you so much, Shelley, 00:28:59.70\00:29:01.10 for that clarification, I appreciate that. 00:29:01.14\00:29:02.70 So we jump into the little book which is Revelation 10:2. 00:29:02.74\00:29:06.37 We'll just read the first part. 00:29:06.41\00:29:08.21 And it says, "And he had in his hand, a little book open..." 00:29:08.24\00:29:12.48 Now, contrast this with the closed scroll that was in 00:29:13.75\00:29:18.09 Revelation 5, remember? Revelation 5:1-4, "I saw in the 00:29:18.12\00:29:22.12 right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written 00:29:22.16\00:29:24.76 inside and on the back sealed with seven seals. 00:29:24.79\00:29:28.23 And a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, 00:29:28.26\00:29:30.60 "Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?" 00:29:30.67\00:29:34.44 Now we know... who was worthy? 00:29:34.47\00:29:35.80 Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah. 00:29:35.84\00:29:38.91 A part of a book that was previously sealed... what book 00:29:38.94\00:29:43.45 was sealed in the past, 00:29:43.48\00:29:44.81 but then it was opened at the end of time. 00:29:44.85\00:29:47.32 That's right, the Book of Daniel. 00:29:47.35\00:29:49.45 We see this in Daniel 12:4. 00:29:49.48\00:29:52.32 "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book." 00:29:52.35\00:29:56.12 So the Book of Daniel was to remain sealed until a certain 00:29:56.16\00:29:59.26 point or period of time. 00:29:59.29\00:30:02.23 "Shut up the words and seal the book 00:30:02.26\00:30:03.93 until the time of the end. 00:30:03.97\00:30:06.80 Many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall increase." 00:30:06.84\00:30:10.91 We know there are certain time prophecies in the Book of Daniel 00:30:10.94\00:30:13.68 that were sealed... "until the time of the end..." 00:30:13.74\00:30:16.38 the 1,260 time prophecy, the 2,300 day time prophecy 00:30:16.41\00:30:21.02 which we'll look at again in just a moment. 00:30:21.05\00:30:23.55 After the little book is open, you see here Christ is here 00:30:23.59\00:30:25.92 holding the little open book in His hand - the Book of Daniel. 00:30:25.95\00:30:29.49 The Book of Daniel is featured very prominently throughout 00:30:29.52\00:30:33.36 the rest of the Book of Revelation. Amen! 00:30:33.40\00:30:36.20 We see the comparisons between Daniel and Revelation. 00:30:36.23\00:30:40.57 The beast with ten horns... we see that in Revelation 12:3 00:30:40.60\00:30:44.74 representing the dragon. 00:30:44.77\00:30:46.11 Revelation 13:1, representing the sea beast. 00:30:46.14\00:30:48.51 That's a reference all the way back to Daniel 7. 00:30:48.54\00:30:52.15 I think of kingdom and dominions given to Christ and His people 00:30:52.18\00:30:55.55 in Revelation 11:15. 00:30:55.58\00:30:57.55 Well, Daniel 7 talks about that, verses 14 and 15. 00:30:57.59\00:31:01.59 The lion and the bear and the leopard representing the 00:31:01.62\00:31:04.26 world empires - that's Revelation 13. 00:31:04.33\00:31:06.63 With the description of the sea beast? 00:31:06.70\00:31:08.53 Well that refers us back to Daniel 7. 00:31:08.56\00:31:12.07 There's a description of the second coming of Christ 00:31:12.10\00:31:15.24 in Revelation 14 and we see that in Daniel 7. 00:31:15.27\00:31:18.91 There's the whole issue of worship in Revelation 13. 00:31:18.94\00:31:22.54 Worship the beast and his image or you are going to be killed, 00:31:22.58\00:31:25.78 and that reminds us of Daniel 3 and the three Hebrew worthies 00:31:25.81\00:31:30.85 who had to worship another image or they were going to be killed. 00:31:30.89\00:31:35.79 There is the 1,260 day prophecy and persecution 00:31:35.82\00:31:38.76 of God's people in both of these books. 00:31:38.79\00:31:41.43 There's the focus on the sanctuary and the temple 00:31:41.46\00:31:43.90 in both of them. 00:31:43.93\00:31:45.27 So let's look at the angel's stance. 00:31:45.30\00:31:47.64 We're still in verse 2. 00:31:47.67\00:31:49.27 He is holding the open book in his hand. 00:31:49.30\00:31:52.21 And he set his right foot on the sea, 00:31:54.74\00:31:57.28 and his left foot on the land and cried with a loud voice, 00:31:57.31\00:32:02.42 as when a lion roars." 00:32:02.45\00:32:04.75 So one foot is on the sea; one foot is on the land. 00:32:04.79\00:32:09.36 This stands on both sea and land. 00:32:09.39\00:32:11.23 It signifies the worldwide proclamation 00:32:11.26\00:32:13.83 of the contents of this book. 00:32:13.90\00:32:16.20 It signifies the universal significance of the message 00:32:16.23\00:32:20.00 that is being proclaimed. 00:32:20.04\00:32:21.90 It signifies the universal rule of the angel, 00:32:21.94\00:32:24.67 the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:32:24.71\00:32:26.94 And he cried with a loud voice, like a lion - it reminds me of 00:32:26.98\00:32:30.45 Revelation 5:5, "Do not weep, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, 00:32:30.51\00:32:34.82 the Root of David has prevailed to open the seals. 00:32:34.85\00:32:38.79 Let's look at "time no longer" because I'm running out of time. 00:32:38.82\00:32:42.82 If we jump down to verse 5, we see the angel whom I saw 00:32:42.86\00:32:46.86 standing on the sea and on the land 00:32:46.90\00:32:48.36 raised up his hand to heaven and swore by Him who lives 00:32:48.40\00:32:51.63 forever and ever, who created heaven and the things 00:32:51.67\00:32:54.94 that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, 00:32:54.97\00:32:58.21 and the sea and the things that are in it." 00:32:58.24\00:33:01.34 So Creator of everything, this is heaven and earth 00:33:01.38\00:33:04.18 and sea and everything! 00:33:04.25\00:33:05.95 That (what does it say?) there should be delay no longer, 00:33:05.98\00:33:09.78 or King James would say, "time no longer." 00:33:09.82\00:33:12.69 I remember learning that as a kid growing up. 00:33:12.72\00:33:14.59 There would be time no longer. 00:33:14.62\00:33:16.52 "But in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, 00:33:16.56\00:33:18.89 when he is about to sound, the mystery of God would be 00:33:18.93\00:33:21.56 finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets." 00:33:21.60\00:33:24.50 So let's look at this "time no longer." 00:33:24.53\00:33:27.20 That means the time prophecies have reached their fulfillment. 00:33:27.24\00:33:32.11 The time prophecies of the Book of Daniel, the 1,260, 00:33:32.14\00:33:35.34 and the 2,300 time prophecy 00:33:35.38\00:33:37.31 have been fulfilled at this point and there is coming 00:33:37.35\00:33:41.32 no more time prophecy. 00:33:41.35\00:33:43.45 People say, "Well I know when the second coming of Christ 00:33:43.49\00:33:46.12 is coming and He's going to be this day, 00:33:46.15\00:33:47.82 and this month, and this year..." 00:33:47.86\00:33:50.73 There is no more time prophecy. 00:33:50.79\00:33:53.56 This says "there's time no longer." 00:33:53.60\00:33:55.73 Not only are the prophecies fulfilled but there will be 00:33:55.76\00:33:58.07 no more time prophecy coming in the future. 00:33:58.10\00:34:01.87 Daniel 12:6-7, we'll look at the two time prophecies quickly. 00:34:01.90\00:34:05.94 This is the 1,260 time prophecy. 00:34:05.97\00:34:09.81 "And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the 00:34:09.84\00:34:12.51 waters of the river, "How long shall the fulfillment of these 00:34:12.55\00:34:16.25 wonders be?" Then I heard the man clothed in linen, 00:34:16.28\00:34:18.79 who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his 00:34:18.82\00:34:20.99 right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him 00:34:21.02\00:34:23.96 who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and 00:34:24.03\00:34:28.20 half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been 00:34:28.23\00:34:31.80 completely shattered, all these things shall be finished." 00:34:31.83\00:34:35.37 Now we don't have time to unpackage all of that, 00:34:35.40\00:34:38.21 but if you apply the day for a year principle, 00:34:38.24\00:34:40.84 where a day equals a year in Bible prophecy... 00:34:40.88\00:34:43.51 it says 3-1/2 years = 1,260 days or 1,260 years. 00:34:43.55\00:34:48.75 This is symbolic of the Dark Ages, the dark period from 00:34:48.78\00:34:53.25 538 to 1798 when the Roman Church 00:34:53.32\00:34:57.43 held full sway, as it were. 00:34:57.49\00:34:59.13 The 2,300 day prophecy in Daniel 8:14, "He said to me, 00:34:59.16\00:35:03.40 "For 2,300 days, then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." 00:35:03.47\00:35:09.47 We know this is from 457 B.C. until 1844 A.D. when 00:35:09.50\00:35:15.08 Christ entered His heavenly ministry 00:35:15.11\00:35:17.78 in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:35:17.81\00:35:19.61 Pastor Kenny, what happens with the little book? 00:35:19.65\00:35:21.68 Amen, wow, well covered, well covered. 00:35:21.72\00:35:23.69 I have Wednesday's lesson because we have a book. 00:35:23.72\00:35:26.55 Jesus is holding the book and then all of a sudden, 00:35:26.59\00:35:29.72 He's talking about "Eat the book." 00:35:29.76\00:35:32.16 So we're looking at eating the scroll because what 00:35:32.19\00:35:36.50 does that really mean? 00:35:36.53\00:35:38.07 Revelation 10:8-11, this will give us a little foundation, 00:35:38.10\00:35:42.14 we'll read it as quickly as we can. 00:35:42.17\00:35:43.51 Revelation 10, we're going to look at verses 8-11. 00:35:43.57\00:35:47.04 "And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me 00:35:47.08\00:35:50.71 again, and said, "Go and take 00:35:50.75\00:35:52.35 the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which 00:35:52.38\00:35:55.45 standeth upon the sea and upon the earth." 00:35:55.48\00:35:57.55 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, 00:35:57.59\00:36:00.09 "Give me the little book." And he said unto me, "Take it 00:36:00.12\00:36:03.46 and eat it up; it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall 00:36:03.49\00:36:07.13 be in thy mouth sweet as honey;" 00:36:07.23\00:36:09.23 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand 00:36:09.26\00:36:12.30 and ate it up and it was, in my mouth, sweet as honey; 00:36:12.33\00:36:16.71 As soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter." 00:36:16.74\00:36:20.48 Now these are interesting words when we're eating and tasting 00:36:20.51\00:36:24.55 in the Bible. 00:36:24.58\00:36:27.15 It is used to describe a message and accepting the message. 00:36:27.22\00:36:30.82 And here, it's getting the message, eating it up, 00:36:30.89\00:36:33.25 it's good when you first eat it, and then all of a sudden 00:36:34.06\00:36:36.49 something happens. 00:36:36.52\00:36:39.03 If it's sweet and it's good, you want to give it to others. 00:36:39.06\00:36:42.33 What I found in the message we have 00:36:42.36\00:36:43.73 in Adventism, it's a sweet and good message 00:36:43.77\00:36:45.10 and you want to give this message, but here, we're 00:36:45.13\00:36:47.67 looking at here.. it's kind of like my wife, you know at home, 00:36:47.70\00:36:50.61 I'm a taster - I don't know if any of you are tasters. 00:36:50.67\00:36:54.51 She'll whip up something good, you know, and then put it 00:36:54.54\00:36:56.75 out there and she'll say, "Kenny, come and taste this 00:36:56.81\00:36:59.11 thing and see what you think, see if it tastes good." 00:36:59.15\00:37:01.78 "If it tastes good, I'm going to give it to others." 00:37:01.82\00:37:04.99 Now think about what we're talking about here. 00:37:05.02\00:37:06.35 If it tastes good, we'll give it to others. 00:37:06.39\00:37:08.26 And then if not, wow... if not, then that's probably 00:37:08.29\00:37:12.59 what I'll have for the next week! Laughter 00:37:12.63\00:37:16.20 No sharing! Yeah, I mean you have to 00:37:16.23\00:37:18.23 kind of think along that line and this is nothing new. 00:37:18.27\00:37:19.73 And it's always good, by the way I better make that clear 00:37:22.50\00:37:25.44 that what she makes is always good, praise God! 00:37:25.47\00:37:27.48 In the Book of Psalms 34:8, it's very clear, it says... 00:37:27.51\00:37:31.35 "O taste and see that... what? That the Lord is good. 00:37:31.38\00:37:34.32 So this is not unusual there for the angel. 00:37:34.35\00:37:36.08 Jesus said, "Here it is, take it, eat it up" and then... 00:37:36.12\00:37:38.49 except it seemed like it was really good then all of a sudden 00:37:38.52\00:37:40.56 it's not so good. 00:37:40.59\00:37:41.92 "Taste and see that the Lord is good." 00:37:41.96\00:37:43.46 Jeremiah 15:16 says, "Thy words were found... what happened? 00:37:43.53\00:37:47.03 I did eat them, Thy word was to me the joy 00:37:47.10\00:37:50.63 and rejoicing of my heart." Amen. 00:37:50.67\00:37:53.60 Jesus referred to Himself as, many times, the Bread of Life, 00:37:53.64\00:37:57.27 and He invites us to take and to eat. 00:37:57.31\00:38:00.11 You know, in John 6, I think it is 6:58, he said, "He that 00:38:00.14\00:38:03.71 eateth this bread, think about, will live forever." 00:38:03.78\00:38:07.08 John 6, you can see the verse is verse 35, verse 41, verse 48, 00:38:07.15\00:38:12.52 and verse 51 and then, of course, in verse 58, 00:38:12.55\00:38:15.12 He's still referring to Himself as the bread that we need 00:38:15.16\00:38:18.66 to take and taste it and see if it's not good. 00:38:18.69\00:38:21.40 So this all fits in with what we're talking about here. 00:38:21.43\00:38:23.77 John's experience then in eating this scroll was first 00:38:23.80\00:38:27.67 sweet, then it says it became bitter. 00:38:27.70\00:38:30.71 And, of course, this has to do with the unsealing of Daniel 00:38:30.74\00:38:34.31 and the end-time prophecies, this is what's happening here. 00:38:34.34\00:38:37.71 One dealing with the prophecy that you mentioned, 1,260 day 00:38:37.75\00:38:41.38 or year prophecy; the 42 months, or the 3-1/2 years, 00:38:41.42\00:38:45.75 or the time and the times and dividing of times. 00:38:45.79\00:38:49.06 We look at it as - this is where God's church was really 00:38:49.09\00:38:52.19 commissioned to get in there and to spread the gospel 00:38:52.23\00:38:55.46 to the whole world; coming out of the Dark Ages 00:38:55.50\00:38:58.63 there was a mission for us to do here. 00:38:58.67\00:39:00.67 And as you mentioned, we realize at 538 to 1798 00:39:00.70\00:39:05.64 is the 1,260 year period of time that I can't really 00:39:05.67\00:39:08.44 get into that, but it was when the papacy was really 00:39:08.48\00:39:11.11 finally established in there. 00:39:11.15\00:39:13.25 You know, you had the 3 of the 10 nations; the Ostrogoths, 00:39:13.28\00:39:16.38 the Heruli, the Vandals, 538 as it went down, that was 00:39:16.42\00:39:19.52 538, that was the beginning of that prophecy and of that time. 00:39:19.55\00:39:23.02 So we know that it stands good in history background 00:39:23.06\00:39:26.33 that we have to dig into. 00:39:26.36\00:39:28.73 Then that simply goes into the bitterest experience 00:39:28.76\00:39:31.27 would be what we're talking about is the 2,300 day 00:39:31.30\00:39:34.34 year prophecy, Daniel 8:14. 00:39:34.37\00:39:37.54 It's something we should be studying, if you don't know it.. 00:39:37.61\00:39:40.18 "Then shall the sanctuary be cleansed," we're in that 00:39:40.21\00:39:43.01 timeframe - it tells me that Jesus certainly is coming. 00:39:43.04\00:39:46.61 The numbers all add up, so what is it that you 00:39:46.65\00:39:48.92 take this and it's good, tastes good, then all of a 00:39:48.95\00:39:51.52 sudden it becomes bitter and no longer people want that. 00:39:51.55\00:39:55.86 The numbers added up, when you go into prophecy 00:39:55.89\00:39:57.89 and you look at the numbers, add it up. 00:39:57.93\00:39:59.26 We realize we had to go from the spring to the fall and so on, 00:39:59.29\00:40:02.46 so it takes us a little bit, but the numbers were there, 00:40:02.50\00:40:05.07 and people were excited. 00:40:05.10\00:40:06.70 And I think I understand a little bit how excited they were 00:40:06.74\00:40:09.97 because they believed with their whole heart, under the 00:40:10.01\00:40:11.94 Millerites, John Miller and the way he brought that 00:40:11.97\00:40:17.21 message, people really believed it and they caught the vision; 00:40:17.25\00:40:19.88 they studied it for themselves and they said Jesus was coming. 00:40:19.91\00:40:22.82 If we really believed it like they believed it then, 00:40:22.85\00:40:25.29 would we be like they were then - when they sold 00:40:25.32\00:40:28.19 their property; when they gave 00:40:28.22\00:40:30.09 everything to the cause of Christ. 00:40:30.13\00:40:31.83 They left their crops in the field because they just 00:40:31.86\00:40:33.96 knew that Jesus was coming. 00:40:34.00\00:40:35.93 Even though, I always look and I say, "Only one little small 00:40:35.96\00:40:38.10 detail - "No man knows (you mentioned it) the day 00:40:38.13\00:40:40.87 or the hour," and so this kind of cuts a little bit raw, 00:40:40.90\00:40:43.64 so how did they get past that? 00:40:43.67\00:40:45.44 It's an interesting message, sweet but became bitter. 00:40:45.47\00:40:48.31 And again, you have 457, under Artaxerxes, 00:40:48.34\00:40:51.58 we realize that's when that started. 00:40:51.61\00:40:52.95 We realize the prophecy extended to the baptism of Jesus 00:40:52.98\00:40:56.08 in 27, then to 31 A.D. to the cross of Calvary, right? 00:40:56.12\00:41:00.79 And then, of course, to 34, the stoning of Stephen, 00:41:00.86\00:41:03.56 and also with the gospel going to the Gentiles, 00:41:03.63\00:41:06.90 and then 1810...left means 1844 the judgment hour. 00:41:06.93\00:41:10.73 I mean these things are all good, Jesus would not come 00:41:10.77\00:41:14.20 back, they found that He would not come back 00:41:14.24\00:41:16.00 to gather the saints at that time but what He did was move 00:41:16.04\00:41:19.24 from what? He moved from the holy to the most holy place. 00:41:19.27\00:41:23.41 The judgment hour began - we realize that as we talk 00:41:23.45\00:41:27.38 about the Day of Atonement or the atoning work of Christ 00:41:27.42\00:41:31.12 is being carried on in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:41:31.15\00:41:33.92 And, in fact, it's the investigative phase of the 00:41:33.96\00:41:37.39 judgment which most people deny in a lot of churches. 00:41:37.43\00:41:40.16 They say, "There's not any such thing," 00:41:40.20\00:41:41.73 but certainly, the Bible proves it. 00:41:41.76\00:41:43.33 John was told that he must what? Prophesy again. 00:41:43.40\00:41:47.90 He must prophesy again. 00:41:47.94\00:41:49.80 And what does that mean, ...Revelation 10:11? 00:41:49.84\00:41:51.97 So after the disappointment, as he totaled everything up, 00:41:52.01\00:41:55.74 Jesus was supposed to come; He didn't come; 00:41:55.78\00:41:57.58 people became discouraged with that 00:41:57.61\00:42:00.12 and a lot of them just fell by the wayside. 00:42:00.15\00:42:02.42 So they went back, they re-studied the prophecies 00:42:02.45\00:42:05.29 and found that the end of the 2,300 days of prophecy 00:42:05.32\00:42:09.26 or the cleansing of the sanctuary - getting rid of sin, 00:42:09.29\00:42:12.56 was in the heavenly sanctuary, not anything to do with the 00:42:12.59\00:42:16.53 earthly, but the sanctuary of the new covenant, 00:42:16.56\00:42:19.17 the Bible said which the Lord did what? The Lord pitched, 00:42:19.20\00:42:23.37 isn't that right? Hebrews 8:2. 00:42:23.41\00:42:24.91 This is one that we should be looking to. 00:42:24.94\00:42:26.74 Christ is our High Priest, Hebrews 8:1. 00:42:26.78\00:42:30.65 Think about the priest in the earthly sanctuary served 00:42:30.71\00:42:33.98 unto the example of shadow of what? 00:42:34.02\00:42:36.75 Of heavenly things, Hebrews 8:5. 00:42:36.79\00:42:39.89 Now quickly with a few moments left, 00:42:39.92\00:42:41.66 Revelation 11:1-2, it says here, "And there was given 00:42:43.99\00:42:49.56 me a reed like unto a rod; and the angel stood saying, 00:42:49.60\00:42:53.70 "Rise and measure the temple of God, and the altar, 00:42:53.77\00:42:56.64 and them that... what? Them that worship therein. 00:42:56.67\00:43:00.28 But the court which is without the temple leave out, 00:43:00.31\00:43:03.11 measure it not; for it is given to the Gentiles; 00:43:03.14\00:43:06.31 and the holy city which shall 00:43:06.35\00:43:07.95 tread under foot forty and two months." 00:43:07.98\00:43:11.69 What is God telling us? 00:43:12.49\00:43:13.86 He telling us... "and measure the temple." 00:43:13.89\00:43:15.79 Who is He measuring here when we look at this thing? 00:43:15.82\00:43:18.03 Who is He really measuring? 00:43:18.06\00:43:19.79 I'd like for us just to remember this in Manuscript 4-1888. 00:43:19.83\00:43:22.96 This is real counsel here. 00:43:23.00\00:43:25.17 "Remember when you were walking in the street 00:43:25.20\00:43:27.10 about your business, God is measuring you. 00:43:27.14\00:43:30.71 When you are attending your household duties; 00:43:30.77\00:43:33.21 when you are engaged in the conversation, 00:43:33.24\00:43:35.58 God is doing... what? God is measuring you." 00:43:35.61\00:43:39.18 You see, (notice this), to see who will stand 00:43:39.21\00:43:42.42 in the last great day. 00:43:42.45\00:43:43.79 This is what the measuring is all about. 00:43:43.85\00:43:45.75 Measuring takes place at a specific period, we know, 00:43:45.79\00:43:48.86 in the history of the church. 00:43:48.89\00:43:50.96 This, to me, suggests a work of judgment - so after the 00:43:50.99\00:43:55.23 Great Disappointment on October 27, 1844, 00:43:55.26\00:43:58.80 Advent believers directed their attention to the 00:43:58.83\00:44:02.07 heavenly sanctuary. 00:44:02.10\00:44:03.81 Now think about this, is that what we should be doing? 00:44:03.84\00:44:06.14 Absolutely! That's where the work is going on right now 00:44:06.17\00:44:09.08 in behalf of mankind. 00:44:09.11\00:44:10.45 We need to understand this message. 00:44:10.48\00:44:12.98 You know, if you look at this great work, 00:44:13.01\00:44:15.42 what happened is, the work wasn't completed. 00:44:15.45\00:44:18.19 Our job wasn't completed and that's why it said here 00:44:18.22\00:44:21.02 that what we need to go and do is - give this message again. 00:44:21.06\00:44:25.36 We have to go back, why? 00:44:25.39\00:44:26.73 Because we have to give the Three Angels Message once again. 00:44:26.80\00:44:28.96 That's including the First and the Second and the Third 00:44:29.00\00:44:31.93 Angel's Message again. 00:44:31.97\00:44:33.70 Prophesy again - is what we are told to the world 00:44:33.74\00:44:38.34 before Jesus comes and that would be giving 00:44:38.37\00:44:40.94 Revelation 14 wouldn't it? 00:44:40.98\00:44:43.04 Not only the Third Angel's Message but the First, 00:44:43.08\00:44:45.11 Second and Third Angel's Message. 00:44:45.15\00:44:46.98 Why? To simply prepare a people for the coming of Jesus. 00:44:47.02\00:44:50.79 And so, you know, I think that's where we're at right now 00:44:50.85\00:44:53.15 in the history of the world, God has given us a message... 00:44:53.19\00:44:55.49 It's going to test and try the people of God, 00:44:55.52\00:44:57.89 just like they were in 1844. 00:44:57.93\00:45:00.06 There may be a little delaying in the time, but we need to 00:45:00.13\00:45:02.70 remain faithful to the coming of Jesus - realizing we do have 00:45:02.73\00:45:06.87 a specific job - work to be done - messages to proclaim 00:45:06.94\00:45:11.27 to the world and by God's grace we need to proclaim 00:45:11.31\00:45:13.98 those messages - not get discouraged, not get 00:45:14.01\00:45:16.24 down and out, don't get beside ourself, 00:45:16.28\00:45:18.41 but get with Jesus and listen to the message 00:45:18.45\00:45:21.55 that He has for us today and proclaim it to the world, 00:45:21.58\00:45:24.02 and to be ready for His coming. 00:45:24.09\00:45:25.42 To me, that's the most important thing... to be ready 00:45:25.45\00:45:27.72 for the coming of Jesus. Amen! Amen! 00:45:27.76\00:45:29.76 Praise the Lord! 00:45:29.79\00:45:31.13 Well I have the wonderful task of doing the impossible, 00:45:31.16\00:45:34.60 and that's communicating an entire 00:45:34.63\00:45:36.46 chapter in less than 10 minutes, but we know that we're 00:45:36.50\00:45:39.90 simply giving a brief overview and so we're going to do that 00:45:39.93\00:45:43.04 just right now. 00:45:43.07\00:45:44.41 My topic is Thursday's lesson on "The two witnesses," 00:45:44.44\00:45:48.11 and also I'm going to be covering Friday's 00:45:48.14\00:45:50.95 "Further Thought" on the seventh trumpet. 00:45:50.98\00:45:53.78 And so, you know, it interesting looking at this layout 00:45:53.82\00:45:57.65 of the Book of Revelation because while there is a 00:45:57.69\00:46:00.69 sense of chronology from chapter to chapter, 00:46:00.79\00:46:03.46 we also know that you can't take from Revelation 1 00:46:03.49\00:46:07.30 all the way to Revelation 22 as a strict 00:46:07.36\00:46:11.00 chronological sequence because there are times 00:46:11.03\00:46:13.64 that God will back up and He will obviously... 00:46:13.67\00:46:15.87 that repeat and enlarge method. 00:46:15.90\00:46:17.24 He will review something and expound on that, 00:46:17.31\00:46:19.81 and we find, as Jill mentioned beautifully, that Revelation 00:46:19.84\00:46:24.15 10 and Revelation 11 is kind of an interlude between 00:46:24.18\00:46:29.22 the sixth trumpet and the seventh trumpet. 00:46:29.25\00:46:32.32 And so when we get to Revelation 11, we are introduced 00:46:32.35\00:46:35.79 to these two witnesses and this is one of the most popular 00:46:35.82\00:46:39.26 questions that I got again on the road traveling as an 00:46:39.29\00:46:41.70 evangelist all those years; Ryan, who are the two witnesses? 00:46:41.73\00:46:45.63 The most common popular explanation of the two 00:46:45.67\00:46:48.94 witnesses throughout the evangelical Christian world 00:46:48.97\00:46:51.67 today is most people think that they are the literal beings 00:46:51.71\00:46:54.38 of Moses and Elijah that God will allow to come back 00:46:54.41\00:46:57.61 to this planet and they're going to witness on this 00:46:57.65\00:47:00.65 earth for 3-1/2 literal days and then they're going to be 00:47:00.68\00:47:03.35 killed and then they're going to be resurrected... 00:47:03.42\00:47:05.22 and where they get this from is the layout of Revelation 00:47:05.25\00:47:09.52 11, you'll see that verses 1-6 is simply introducing to us, 00:47:09.56\00:47:14.46 who these two witnesses are and then when you read verses 00:47:14.50\00:47:17.30 7-10, it tells us about how these two witnesses are killed. 00:47:17.37\00:47:20.84 And then of course, verses 11-14 these two witnesses are 00:47:20.87\00:47:27.18 resurrected and so, you know, is it literal, is it symbolic? 00:47:27.21\00:47:30.35 And you'll see in just a few moments that you cannot read 00:47:30.38\00:47:33.18 this chapter about these two witnesses and take it every 00:47:33.21\00:47:36.69 single word literal, and I'll show you even with the 00:47:36.72\00:47:39.05 application that is literal, the persons of Moses and Elijah. 00:47:39.09\00:47:43.02 There is some symbolism involved 00:47:43.69\00:47:45.36 and you'll see that as we go through. 00:47:45.43\00:47:46.80 I'm going to start in verse 3 and then we're just going to 00:47:46.83\00:47:48.93 kind of unpack a few things, I know I'm not going to be able 00:47:48.96\00:47:51.47 to cover this entire section but we'll do what we can. 00:47:51.50\00:47:54.14 Revelation 11:3 says, "And I will give power to my two 00:47:54.20\00:47:59.54 witnesses and they will prophesy 1,260 days 00:47:59.57\00:48:05.21 clothed in sackcloth." 00:48:05.25\00:48:07.92 So we have some context clues here that kind of 00:48:07.95\00:48:11.52 gives us some insight on who these two witnesses 00:48:11.55\00:48:14.19 could possibly be. 00:48:14.22\00:48:15.56 Now obviously the two witnesses, I believe, 00:48:15.59\00:48:18.43 there is sufficient evidence that the two witnesses 00:48:18.46\00:48:20.53 represent the Bible, both the Old and New Testament, 00:48:20.56\00:48:23.70 and even though we call it the Old and New Testament, 00:48:24.57\00:48:26.30 we know that there's no such thing as an old or a new, 00:48:26.33\00:48:28.37 it's all the Word of God and it flows very smoothly 00:48:28.40\00:48:31.84 from one side to the next, but just a 00:48:31.87\00:48:34.01 few Scriptural references here... 00:48:34.08\00:48:36.08 we have a reference of the law and the prophets 00:48:36.11\00:48:38.91 in Matthew 7:12, "Jesus referred to the law and the prophets, 00:48:38.98\00:48:42.48 and most people believe that these two witnesses are 00:48:42.52\00:48:44.79 Moses and Elijah and in a sense they are... not the literal 00:48:44.82\00:48:48.19 beings, but obviously Moses represents the law and 00:48:48.22\00:48:52.53 of course, Elijah would represent the prophets, 00:48:52.56\00:48:54.86 and there's some Scriptural evidence of that in Malachi 4 00:48:54.93\00:48:58.00 and Matthew 17. 00:48:58.03\00:48:59.70 The two olive trees in Zechariah 4 which we're about to 00:48:59.73\00:49:03.67 read about... again representing the Old and New Testament, 00:49:03.74\00:49:06.41 this biblical application; the two candlesticks; 00:49:06.44\00:49:09.61 the two-edged sword all a reference 00:49:09.64\00:49:11.98 of the Bible, the Word of God. 00:49:12.01\00:49:14.35 So the 1,260 days obviously would represent as 00:49:14.38\00:49:18.49 Pastor Kenny mentioned as we mentioned several times 00:49:18.52\00:49:20.82 here... that period from about 538 A.D. to 1798 A.D. 00:49:20.89\00:49:25.43 when the Catholic Church State reigned supreme all over the 00:49:25.46\00:49:28.83 world and it was indeed a dark time. 00:49:28.86\00:49:32.20 We call it the "Dark Ages" for a reason and we'll see 00:49:32.23\00:49:34.80 a little bit of why we call it the "Dark Ages" 00:49:34.84\00:49:36.71 in just a few moments as we get through this. 00:49:36.74\00:49:38.77 The sackcloth - notice how it says that these were 00:49:38.81\00:49:42.21 clothed were sackcloth. 00:49:42.24\00:49:43.58 Sackcloth simply is a representation - it is closely 00:49:43.65\00:49:46.38 associated to a time of mourning and distress. 00:49:46.41\00:49:49.28 I think of the Day of Atonement when on that special day 00:49:49.32\00:49:53.22 of judgment - the children of Israel would sit in sackcloth 00:49:53.25\00:49:56.26 and ashes as they would pray towards the temple 00:49:56.29\00:49:58.46 pleading and searching the soul, you know, searching 00:49:58.49\00:50:01.30 themselves - "Lord, forgive my sins," presenting 00:50:01.33\00:50:03.83 themselves before the Lord... 00:50:03.87\00:50:05.23 so a time of mourning, a time of distress. 00:50:05.27\00:50:08.07 Look at Revelation 11:4... "These are the two 00:50:08.10\00:50:13.07 olive trees and the two lampstands standing before 00:50:13.11\00:50:16.95 the God of the earth." 00:50:17.01\00:50:19.28 Now, I think this Scripture here even further alludes to 00:50:19.31\00:50:22.25 the fact that this is for sure the word of God for we know 00:50:22.28\00:50:25.65 the two olive trees are a symbol drawn from 00:50:25.69\00:50:28.06 Zechariah 4:1-6, and they are portrayed as a furnishing 00:50:28.09\00:50:33.40 of oil for the lamps of the sanctuary. 00:50:33.46\00:50:35.80 And I have to add here again, I know I've said this 00:50:35.83\00:50:38.00 several times, but it's quite impossible to understand 00:50:38.03\00:50:41.07 the Book of Revelation without having been exposed 00:50:41.10\00:50:43.34 to or a previous knowledge of the sanctuary. 00:50:43.37\00:50:45.84 That's why I encourage our viewers at home, 00:50:45.87\00:50:47.98 all of those who are studying with us around the world... 00:50:48.01\00:50:49.78 study the sanctuary message, it will help you understand 00:50:49.81\00:50:53.45 the Book of Revelation so much 00:50:53.48\00:50:54.82 better when you get to these chapters. 00:50:54.85\00:50:56.55 The reason why there's so much confusion about much of this 00:50:56.62\00:50:58.65 symbolism, is people don't understand the sanctuary 00:50:58.69\00:51:02.02 that is primarily established in the Old Testament... 00:51:02.06\00:51:04.69 we have a lot of people today that consider themselves 00:51:04.73\00:51:06.80 "New Testament Christians." 00:51:06.83\00:51:08.26 They say, "I don't need the Old Testament." 00:51:08.30\00:51:09.96 When we know that the Word of God is the Word of God, 00:51:10.03\00:51:11.97 we have to take the whole pie, not just half of it. 00:51:12.00\00:51:14.70 And we also know that this lampstand... okay, the two 00:51:14.74\00:51:18.17 trees - let's go back to that for a moment. 00:51:18.21\00:51:19.87 Zechariah 4:1-6 establishes the fact the furnishing 00:51:19.91\00:51:24.38 of the oil for the lamps; the oil is a representation 00:51:24.41\00:51:26.78 of the Holy Spirit in Scripture, that is the symbolism 00:51:26.82\00:51:29.48 of the Holy Spirit. 00:51:29.52\00:51:30.85 Now these lampstands, we know for sure, is pointing 00:51:30.89\00:51:33.52 directly to the Word of God for we have in Psalm 119:105. 00:51:33.56\00:51:37.49 You guys know the Scripture... "Thy word, O Lord, is a lamp 00:51:37.53\00:51:40.46 unto my feet and a light unto my path." 00:51:40.50\00:51:42.96 And, you know, referring to them as being two witnesses... 00:51:43.00\00:51:45.90 Is the Word of God a witness? Oh you better believe it! 00:51:45.93\00:51:49.97 Notice Matthew 24:14, I want to establish that one first. 00:51:50.04\00:51:54.01 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all 00:51:54.04\00:51:56.28 the world for a...? witness unto all nations." 00:51:56.31\00:51:59.38 So there's no doubt in our minds that when we read 00:51:59.41\00:52:02.25 through here, about these two witnesses, 00:52:02.28\00:52:04.19 it's talking about the Word of God. 00:52:04.22\00:52:05.69 When it says that these witnesses were killed, 00:52:05.72\00:52:08.66 as we go on to verse 7, notice what it says here... 00:52:08.69\00:52:11.29 "And when they finished their testimony, the beast, that 00:52:11.33\00:52:13.50 ascends out of the bottomless pit, 00:52:13.53\00:52:14.83 will make war against them." 00:52:14.86\00:52:16.50 A beast in Bible prophecy represents a power, 00:52:16.53\00:52:19.67 significant nations or kingdoms and so there was a kingdom 00:52:19.70\00:52:23.67 in history and I'll just say it for the sake of time... 00:52:23.71\00:52:26.27 I encourage you to study this because what we're reading 00:52:26.31\00:52:28.78 here in Revelation 11 is a time period in which we're 00:52:28.81\00:52:32.85 studying, historically, the French Revolution. 00:52:32.88\00:52:35.62 If you go back and study the time period of the French 00:52:35.65\00:52:37.35 Revolution, the latter part of the 1700s from about 00:52:37.39\00:52:40.22 1793 through to 1797-98, again, the time of the end. 00:52:40.26\00:52:46.66 You will study that time period, you will see that the 00:52:46.70\00:52:48.66 Word of God was actually being oppressed by the 00:52:48.70\00:52:51.47 French assemblies, by the French governments. 00:52:51.50\00:52:53.87 And so when it says that they were killed... you go study 00:52:54.60\00:52:57.94 history from about 1793-1797 for a period of about 00:52:57.97\00:53:02.88 3-1/2 years, as it says here that their dead bodies 00:53:02.91\00:53:05.61 lie in the streets for about 3-1/2 days - a day for a year 00:53:05.65\00:53:09.18 principle, 3-1/12 years, from 1793 to 1797, 00:53:09.22\00:53:14.69 that 3-1/2 year period, the Word of God was 00:53:14.72\00:53:17.26 oppressed, it was taken away. 00:53:17.33\00:53:18.76 The Bibles were heaped up in the middle of the streets 00:53:19.66\00:53:21.93 and set afire. 00:53:21.96\00:53:23.33 That's why it said that their bodies were burned. 00:53:23.37\00:53:25.30 Incredible time in history! 00:53:25.33\00:53:26.70 I encourage you to study this. 00:53:26.74\00:53:28.17 And then it says that their bodies were resurrected. 00:53:28.20\00:53:30.27 When you get to around verse 11, notice what verse 11 says here. 00:53:30.31\00:53:33.94 "Now after 3-1/2 days, (there it is) the breath of life 00:53:33.98\00:53:36.58 from God entered them and they stood up on their feet and 00:53:36.61\00:53:39.31 great fear fell on those who saw them." 00:53:39.35\00:53:41.78 Because while they did try to oppress the Word of God, 00:53:41.82\00:53:44.52 for 3-1/2 years, around 1797-1798, you start to see 00:53:44.55\00:53:50.09 this resurgence, this revival of the Word of God being 00:53:50.13\00:53:53.40 printed all over the place. 00:53:53.46\00:53:55.23 Notice this right here, this is incredible... 00:53:55.26\00:53:57.53 Soon after the French Revolution, various national 00:53:57.57\00:54:00.17 Bible societies were established, particularly 00:54:00.24\00:54:02.50 notable among those were the "British and Foreign Bible 00:54:02.54\00:54:05.11 Societies" founded in 1804, notice the timeframe here... 00:54:05.14\00:54:08.61 and the "American Bible Society" organized in 1816. 00:54:08.64\00:54:12.35 These organizations help translate the Bible 00:54:12.38\00:54:15.02 into more than 1,500 languages 00:54:15.05\00:54:17.49 in a very short period of time. 00:54:17.52\00:54:19.92 You want to talk about a revival of the Word of God 00:54:19.99\00:54:22.09 after it had been oppressed, this is powerful stuff here. 00:54:22.12\00:54:25.06 And it gets me excited because, you know, when you try to 00:54:25.09\00:54:27.86 wage war against truth, TRUTH always prevails. Amen! 00:54:27.86\00:54:31.43 Truth always will prevail! 00:54:31.47\00:54:33.94 Check this out... Voltaire, a notable French atheist, 00:54:34.00\00:54:37.57 he had said, (in his time), he died in 1778, 00:54:37.61\00:54:41.28 and this is what he said within 100 years of his time, 00:54:41.31\00:54:44.11 "Christianity would be swept away from existence 00:54:44.15\00:54:46.55 and pass into the obscurity of history." 00:54:46.58\00:54:49.08 Yet 50 years after his death, the "Geneva Bible Society" 00:54:49.12\00:54:52.22 used his house and printing press to produce thousands 00:54:52.25\00:54:55.42 of Bibles! So the Word of God will always prevail. 00:54:55.46\00:54:58.99 I have about 40 seconds and I'm going to quickly 00:54:59.03\00:55:01.03 cover just the very basis of the seventh trumpet 00:55:01.06\00:55:04.77 which is basically Christ receiving His kingdoms 00:55:04.80\00:55:07.84 and launching us into this judgment time 00:55:07.87\00:55:10.11 period 1844 and forward. 00:55:10.14\00:55:12.27 I just want to give a quick summary. 00:55:12.34\00:55:13.68 I'm not going to be able to read any Scripture there, 00:55:13.71\00:55:15.71 but read verses 15-19 for yourself. 00:55:15.74\00:55:19.18 The seventh trumpet represents the time period from 00:55:19.21\00:55:21.75 1844 into the second coming of Jesus. 00:55:21.78\00:55:24.89 During this time, attention is focused upon the 00:55:24.92\00:55:26.96 High Priestly Ministry of Jesus in the Most Holy Place. 00:55:26.99\00:55:31.49 We are living in a "Most Holy Place" time period. Amen! 00:55:31.53\00:55:35.00 And I think that's where we're actually setting up as we 00:55:35.03\00:55:37.43 continue on through the Book of Revelation, chapter 12 00:55:37.47\00:55:40.04 and onward, we're focusing on that High Priestly Ministry 00:55:40.10\00:55:43.27 of Jesus in the Most Holy Place. Amen and Amen! 00:55:43.30\00:55:46.21 Thank you so much! That was wonderful and 00:55:46.24\00:55:48.08 it occurs to me though as I'm listening, that for those 00:55:48.11\00:55:51.61 of you who may not be familiar with Revelation, 00:55:51.65\00:55:56.15 you're probably going... "Where are they getting 00:55:56.18\00:55:58.45 all of this?" We will unpack, I know, in a future lesson, 00:55:58.49\00:56:04.49 we'll be explaining about the time periods and things. 00:56:04.53\00:56:07.66 But one of the chief contributors for this Quarterly 00:56:07.66\00:56:11.43 was "Ranko Stefanovic," he has a program on 00:56:11.47\00:56:14.57 3ABN, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ." 00:56:14.60\00:56:17.11 He has a commentary called, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ" 00:56:17.14\00:56:21.38 You may want to Google that... 00:56:21.41\00:56:24.05 "The Revelation of the Coming King," it's called. 00:56:24.08\00:56:25.98 "The Revelation of the Coming King" is our program. 00:56:26.01\00:56:28.68 Yes, thank you. 00:56:28.72\00:56:30.09 Quick comment from everybody, we've got about a minute. 00:56:30.12\00:56:33.25 Well the trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ will rise. 00:56:33.29\00:56:36.96 I'm looking forward to the last trump! Amen! 00:56:37.03\00:56:40.60 That's what I'm looking forward to. 00:56:40.63\00:56:41.93 They'll be many trumpets, but I'm waiting and getting 00:56:41.96\00:56:44.23 ready for the LAST TRUMP! Amen! Praise God for that. 00:56:44.27\00:56:47.54 I love the fact that the trumpets, even though there's 00:56:47.60\00:56:49.77 judgment, there's redemption and mercy mingled 00:56:49.80\00:56:53.07 with it because God calls each one of us to repentance. 00:56:53.11\00:56:56.18 Amen! In "Selected Messages," Book 1, p. 188, 00:56:56.21\00:56:58.95 says, "We are not to know the definite time either for the 00:56:58.98\00:57:02.48 outpouring of the Holy Spirit or for the coming of Christ." 00:57:02.52\00:57:05.49 Just something good, to remember as we study prophecy. 00:57:05.52\00:57:08.32 "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." 00:57:08.36\00:57:11.36 "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word 00:57:11.39\00:57:14.30 that proceeds out of the mouth of God." 00:57:14.36\00:57:15.96 Now more than ever, we need to be focused on 00:57:16.00\00:57:18.27 truth and uplift the truth in this time. Amen! 00:57:18.30\00:57:21.44 Absolutely! You know, the Bible promises, in Revelation, 00:57:21.47\00:57:25.21 actually the opening chapter of Revelation promises 00:57:25.24\00:57:27.88 that blessed is he who hears, who reads, 00:57:27.91\00:57:32.21 who applies this Word. 00:57:32.25\00:57:35.28 So we hope that you have been blessed today as you're 00:57:35.35\00:57:39.29 hearing and even if you don't understand fully, 00:57:39.32\00:57:41.62 just say, "Oh Lord, thank You 00:57:41.66\00:57:43.46 that You will bring me that understanding." 00:57:43.53\00:57:46.16 And my comment is just that I want you to remember 00:57:46.19\00:57:49.33 Jesus is standing at the right hand of the throne 00:57:49.36\00:57:52.67 of the Father in the Most Holy Place right now. 00:57:52.70\00:57:55.37 He is interceding on your behalf and He is 00:57:55.40\00:57:59.41 able to save to the uttermost. 00:57:59.44\00:58:03.88 We hope you'll join us again next time. Bye, bye. 00:58:03.91\00:58:06.95
