Hello, I'm Shelley Quinn and we welcome you 00:00:28.59\00:00:33.13 to the 3ABN Sabbath School Panel. 00:00:33.16\00:00:36.00 We're very excited because we're getting ready to start 00:00:36.03\00:00:39.23 a new Quarterly and this topic is "Oneness in Christ." 00:00:39.27\00:00:46.17 We will be focusing on the insights and instructions 00:00:46.21\00:00:50.88 from Scripture that tell us how to live God's gift of 00:00:50.91\00:00:56.52 unity in the body of Christ and we're very happy that you 00:00:56.55\00:01:00.96 have chosen to study with us. 00:01:00.99\00:01:02.72 I hope you have your Bible and a pen and if you 00:01:02.76\00:01:05.89 don't have an Adult Bible Study Guide, 00:01:05.93\00:01:09.36 you can go to: ABSG.Adventist.org 00:01:09.40\00:01:14.84 and download that or better yet, drop by 00:01:14.87\00:01:18.64 your friendly neighborhood Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:01:18.67\00:01:22.61 They will be happy to give you one and probably invite you 00:01:22.64\00:01:25.98 to join them for a study and you would enjoy that. 00:01:26.01\00:01:29.88 Let me introduce our panel to you... 00:01:29.92\00:01:32.95 We're very excited, next to me is my best friend, 00:01:32.99\00:01:36.39 Mollie Sue Steenson. 00:01:36.42\00:01:38.66 Mollie, thank you for being here today! You're welcome. 00:01:38.69\00:01:41.43 Thank you for having me. 00:01:41.46\00:01:42.80 It's good to have you back here, 00:01:42.83\00:01:44.33 I'll tell you - things seem normal. 00:01:44.37\00:01:46.67 Then we have Pastor John Lomacang. Good to be here. 00:01:46.70\00:01:50.04 Jill Morikone and Pastor John Dinzey. It's good to be here. 00:01:50.07\00:01:53.14 We're just thrilled to have each and every one of you here. 00:01:53.17\00:01:56.98 You know, I was thinking that when God created 00:01:57.01\00:02:01.98 everything, everything was perfect, everything was 00:02:02.02\00:02:04.92 in perfect unity and harmony, but sin fractured that 00:02:04.95\00:02:09.96 harmonious relationship and the thought occurred to me, 00:02:10.03\00:02:14.20 as I was thinking on this this morning, 00:02:14.30\00:02:17.97 that when the first Adam sinned and fractured that unity, 00:02:18.00\00:02:23.87 the second Adam, God Himself, took on our flesh so that 00:02:23.91\00:02:30.51 He could be completely united with us. 00:02:30.55\00:02:33.18 Isn't that amazing to think about? Amen! 00:02:33.21\00:02:35.08 It is amazing, but then in 1 Corinthians 6:17, 00:02:35.12\00:02:40.02 he is wanting to restore the union, so 1 Corinthians 6:17 00:02:40.06\00:02:44.76 says that "Those who are united with Christ are one 00:02:44.79\00:02:49.76 in Spirit with Him." 00:02:49.80\00:02:52.40 So Paul tells in Philippians 2:1-3 that when you're 00:02:52.43\00:02:56.74 united with Christ you have fellowship with the Spirit, 00:02:56.77\00:03:01.04 you're like-minded; you have the same love, 00:03:01.08\00:03:04.28 tenderness, compassion, being one in Spirit and purpose, 00:03:04.31\00:03:08.45 and doing nothing out of selfish motivation 00:03:08.48\00:03:12.42 or vain conceit, but in humility what are we 00:03:12.45\00:03:16.56 supposed to do? Consider others 00:03:16.59\00:03:19.59 better than ourselves. 00:03:19.63\00:03:21.96 Now before we pray, I want to read the "Fundamental 00:03:22.00\00:03:25.97 Belief" #14 and this is called "Unity in the Body of Christ." 00:03:26.00\00:03:32.87 And this is one of the "Fundamental Beliefs" 00:03:32.91\00:03:37.11 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:03:37.15\00:03:39.25 And it states, "The church is one body with many members 00:03:39.28\00:03:43.12 called from every nation, kindred, tongue and people. 00:03:43.15\00:03:46.55 In Christ, we are a new creation. 00:03:46.59\00:03:49.59 Distinctions of race, culture, learning, nationality, 00:03:49.62\00:03:52.86 and differences between high and low, rich and poor, 00:03:52.89\00:03:55.56 male and female must not be divisive among us. 00:03:55.60\00:04:00.54 We are equal in Christ who by one Spirit has bonded us 00:04:00.57\00:04:05.21 into one fellowship with Him and with one another. 00:04:05.24\00:04:09.51 We are to serve and to be served without partiality 00:04:09.54\00:04:15.58 or reservation. 00:04:15.62\00:04:17.99 Through the revelation of Jesus Christ in the Scriptures, 00:04:18.02\00:04:21.02 we share the same faith and hope and reach out 00:04:21.06\00:04:24.56 in one witness to all. 00:04:24.59\00:04:26.16 This unity has its source in the oneness of the 00:04:26.19\00:04:32.13 triune God who has adopted us as His children." 00:04:32.17\00:04:37.47 So that will be our study this quarter it is 00:04:37.51\00:04:41.04 "Oneness in Christ." 00:04:41.08\00:04:42.71 Mollie, would you like to have 00:04:42.74\00:04:44.61 our opening prayer? I sure would. 00:04:44.65\00:04:46.45 Holy Father, We come before You in the 00:04:46.48\00:04:48.38 name of Jesus and Lord, we praise You and we 00:04:48.42\00:04:51.35 thank You for Your presence here and we thank You, 00:04:51.39\00:04:54.29 Lord, that You are calling us into oneness with You. 00:04:54.32\00:04:58.03 Thank You Father that using this study, You are going to 00:04:58.06\00:05:01.43 shine Your light into our hearts, show those areas 00:05:01.46\00:05:04.80 in us that are divisive and, Father, bring us into that 00:05:04.83\00:05:08.14 right relationship with You. 00:05:08.17\00:05:09.80 So, Father, we commend this into Your hands and we thank You 00:05:09.84\00:05:13.04 Lord for the end result. In Jesus name... Amen 00:05:13.07\00:05:16.85 Amen and Amen! You know, I think about 00:05:16.88\00:05:19.68 how on the night of His betrayal, when Jesus was in the 00:05:19.71\00:05:24.19 garden, what was the focus of His prayer? 00:05:24.22\00:05:27.09 He wanted us to be sanctified. 00:05:27.16\00:05:29.69 He says in John 17... He said, "Sanctify them 00:05:29.72\00:05:33.26 Lord, by Your word, Your word is truth." 00:05:33.29\00:05:35.60 And He wanted us to be set apart for God's purposes. 00:05:35.63\00:05:40.20 But He prayed, He says, not just for those who were there, 00:05:40.24\00:05:45.27 but for all who would follow 00:05:45.31\00:05:47.38 and believe in Him through the word that they might be 00:05:47.44\00:05:51.35 one as He and the Father are one. 00:05:51.38\00:05:54.28 So we know that that's God's plan 00:05:54.32\00:05:58.09 is perfect unity. That's right. 00:05:58.12\00:05:59.65 What is Satan's plan? 00:05:59.69\00:06:01.09 He wants to divide and conquer and when you think about that, 00:06:01.12\00:06:05.23 how many millions of people do you think have 00:06:05.26\00:06:09.90 been put off and have refused to join the church 00:06:09.93\00:06:15.20 because of disunity. 00:06:15.24\00:06:17.74 So there's no greater need, than unity 00:06:17.77\00:06:21.41 in the body of the church and that's something 00:06:21.44\00:06:23.21 that, as believers, we should yearn for unity. 00:06:23.24\00:06:27.98 We should pray for unity but never at the 00:06:28.02\00:06:30.79 expense of truth, right? Amen! 00:06:30.82\00:06:34.39 But what perfect unity flows 00:06:34.42\00:06:36.66 out of is perfect submission to God. 00:06:36.73\00:06:39.16 So let's look at Lesson 1... 00:06:39.19\00:06:41.60 This is the Sabbath, "Creation and Fall" 00:06:41.63\00:06:44.97 Let me read the Memory Text: "Then God brought Abraham 00:06:45.00\00:06:49.67 outside and said, "Look now toward heaven, 00:06:49.70\00:06:52.81 and count the stars if you are able to number them." 00:06:52.84\00:06:57.05 And He (God) said to Abraham, "So shall your descendants be." 00:06:57.11\00:07:03.22 And he believed in the Lord, 00:07:03.25\00:07:07.19 and God accounted it to him for righteousness." 00:07:07.22\00:07:11.06 So as I said, to understand God's plan of unity, 00:07:11.09\00:07:14.73 we have to go back to the beginning. 00:07:14.73\00:07:16.56 When God created everything, He said, "Let us make man 00:07:16.60\00:07:22.07 in our image," and we find that what was the root of disunity? 00:07:22.10\00:07:29.78 Disobedience - was it not? 00:07:29.81\00:07:34.02 So the Bible starts with everything being perfect, 00:07:34.05\00:07:38.32 and when the devil twisted God's words and tempted Eve 00:07:38.35\00:07:44.73 deceiving her, that is when disunity came in. 00:07:44.76\00:07:51.20 But of course, God had a plan from the very beginning. 00:07:51.23\00:07:54.60 Revelation 13:8... "The Lamb who was slain 00:07:54.64\00:07:57.77 from the beginning of the world." 00:07:57.81\00:07:59.57 And faithful Abraham who was the father of God's people 00:07:59.61\00:08:03.71 became one of the central figures in that salvation plan 00:08:03.78\00:08:07.55 because it says that Abraham believed God and it was 00:08:07.58\00:08:11.75 accounted to him as righteousness. 00:08:11.79\00:08:14.72 So righteousness by faith unites us - does it not? 00:08:14.76\00:08:20.83 There's nothing that we have that is righteous on our own. 00:08:20.86\00:08:24.40 Let's look at Sunday... "Love as a Foundation of Unity" 00:08:24.43\00:08:30.74 So at the end of the creation story, what does God say? 00:08:30.81\00:08:34.38 He looks and He says, "This is good, this is very good." 00:08:34.41\00:08:40.32 It was a beautiful creation, perfect harmony, 00:08:40.35\00:08:44.29 and when you think about this, what do you think it means 00:08:44.32\00:08:48.32 that God created us when He said, "Let us make man 00:08:48.36\00:08:54.00 in Our image, according to Our likeness." 00:08:54.10\00:08:57.57 In the Hebrew, those words are 00:08:57.60\00:08:59.57 synonyms - the image and the likeness. 00:08:59.60\00:09:01.74 What do you think that means? 00:09:01.77\00:09:03.37 What is the "likeness," is there a physical likeness to God? 00:09:03.44\00:09:07.51 Jesus said in John 4:24... "God is a Spirit, 00:09:07.54\00:09:12.11 and we must worship Him in Spirit and in truth." 00:09:12.15\00:09:15.72 So it isn't a physical likeness, it is more of... let me just, 00:09:15.75\00:09:24.36 I'll digress for a second. 00:09:24.39\00:09:26.29 When God created everything, He spoke everything into 00:09:26.33\00:09:32.30 existence until it came time to create man... 00:09:32.33\00:09:37.01 Then He got down and He got very personal. Yes 00:09:37.04\00:09:41.68 He created man out of the dust, the mold, the earth, 00:09:41.71\00:09:45.68 the elements of the earth, added a little water, 00:09:45.71\00:09:48.82 make it clay and He shaped man and then what did He do? 00:09:48.85\00:09:53.09 He breathed - He ignited man with life by breathing 00:09:53.12\00:09:59.23 His breath into man. 00:09:59.26\00:10:00.90 So when it says that we were created in His image, 00:10:00.93\00:10:05.97 I believe very strongly that what we're seeing here 00:10:06.00\00:10:11.21 is that it's not a reference to His physical appearance, 00:10:11.24\00:10:16.48 but we were created in righteousness and holiness 00:10:16.51\00:10:20.42 with moral sensibilities and responsibility. 00:10:20.48\00:10:24.19 We were created for fellowship; to have emotional capacity; 00:10:24.25\00:10:30.39 the ability to reflect His character of love and patience 00:10:30.43\00:10:35.40 and forgiveness, and kindness and faithfulness. 00:10:35.43\00:10:38.63 He created us with intellectual abilities just as He has 00:10:38.67\00:10:44.17 that we could achieve things and be creative. 00:10:44.24\00:10:47.41 He created us with the freedom of will with the ability 00:10:47.44\00:10:51.58 to reason and to choose; and the ability to exercise 00:10:51.61\00:10:57.12 authority, a rulership over our planet, 00:10:57.15\00:11:00.56 and all of its resources. 00:11:00.59\00:11:02.29 So He created male and female in His image and what 00:11:02.32\00:11:09.10 happened - what did God say happened 00:11:09.13\00:11:11.03 when male and female came together? 00:11:11.07\00:11:13.74 They became one. 00:11:13.80\00:11:16.24 In their union, He said, "Be fruitful and multiply." 00:11:16.27\00:11:20.64 So He gave man the ability to procreate, 00:11:20.68\00:11:24.91 and I think this is how we reflect 00:11:24.95\00:11:28.08 God's attitude and disposition which determines 00:11:28.12\00:11:31.95 the behavior and conduct that we have. 00:11:31.99\00:11:34.49 Do you realize that your human worth is based on the fact 00:11:34.52\00:11:39.19 that you were created in the image of God? 00:11:39.23\00:11:42.63 His image in mankind, as I said, 00:11:42.66\00:11:45.17 was scarred by sin and we lost the moral likeness, 00:11:45.20\00:11:50.34 but although we're fallen, I believe most people still have 00:11:50.37\00:11:53.71 a conscience unless they're ... what do they call them? 00:11:53.74\00:11:56.88 Psychopaths? Are the ones who are without conscience. 00:11:56.91\00:11:59.95 So, we retain something of God's image, 00:12:00.05\00:12:04.22 but by the blood of Christ, He restores the image. 00:12:04.29\00:12:11.26 We're redeemed and He restores the image 00:12:11.29\00:12:14.00 because 2 Corinthians 5:17 says what? 00:12:14.00\00:12:17.13 "We are new creations in Christ Jesus - right? 00:12:17.17\00:12:22.94 So the New Testament teaches that someday we will 00:12:22.97\00:12:28.44 bear the image of Christ and I want to just focus 00:12:28.48\00:12:34.85 for just a couple of minutes I have left on what I 00:12:34.88\00:12:39.15 think is the most important, the essence of God's nature 00:12:39.19\00:12:44.76 which is the most important for us. 00:12:44.79\00:12:47.03 And what is the essence of God's nature? 00:12:47.10\00:12:50.20 LOVE - God is love. 00:12:50.23\00:12:53.27 In 1 John 4:7-8, John writes... 00:12:53.30\00:12:57.97 "Beloved, let us love one another for love is of God, 00:12:58.01\00:13:03.14 and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 00:13:03.18\00:13:08.05 He who does not love, does not know God." 00:13:08.08\00:13:12.85 So if you meet someone who is unloving in their spirit 00:13:12.89\00:13:19.46 and their characteristics, do they know God? 00:13:19.49\00:13:23.93 Obviously not by the Scripture. 00:13:23.97\00:13:26.74 And then John also said in 1 John 4:16... 00:13:26.80\00:13:30.11 "We have known and believed the love that God has for us. 00:13:30.17\00:13:34.81 God is love and he who abides in love, 00:13:34.84\00:13:38.75 abides in God and God in him. That's right. 00:13:38.78\00:13:42.72 So the essential essence of God is the love that is 00:13:42.75\00:13:50.96 unselfish other-centered love. 00:13:50.99\00:13:55.03 And character is derived from your nature, right? 00:13:55.06\00:14:00.97 So all of God's characteristics must line up with that love 00:14:01.00\00:14:07.28 because when you think about it, love and sin 00:14:07.31\00:14:12.55 are polar opposites. 00:14:12.58\00:14:14.75 Love gives of itself, love is unselfish, 00:14:14.78\00:14:19.45 love is the perfect character of God. 00:14:19.49\00:14:23.09 So sin is irreconcilably incompatible 00:14:23.12\00:14:31.40 with God's nature of love. 00:14:31.43\00:14:33.94 So as He establishes His character of perfect holiness, 00:14:34.00\00:14:38.21 the way I say it is... what establishes His 00:14:38.24\00:14:42.91 character of perfect holiness is His nature of love 00:14:42.94\00:14:48.55 because love is totally separated from sin. 00:14:48.58\00:14:52.59 But I just want to point out and I know I often do, 00:14:52.62\00:14:55.42 but this is probably one of my favorite Scriptures... 00:14:55.46\00:14:58.63 is the way God establishes us in holiness to separate us 00:14:58.66\00:15:07.44 from sin - to separate us to Himself. 00:15:07.47\00:15:10.44 The way He separates us is through love 00:15:10.51\00:15:14.18 because 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13, Paul says, "And may the Lord 00:15:14.21\00:15:18.55 make you increase and abound in love to one another 00:15:18.58\00:15:21.52 and to all, just as we do to you, 00:15:21.55\00:15:24.65 so that (for the purpose of) that He may establish 00:15:24.69\00:15:30.03 us in holiness" (making us blameless in holiness 00:15:30.06\00:15:35.10 the Scripture says) - so that is how we are created 00:15:35.13\00:15:39.57 in God's image and Christ is recreating us as we grow 00:15:39.60\00:15:45.74 in love, we grow in holiness and we grow in unity. Mollie Sue... 00:15:45.77\00:15:49.38 Amen and Amen! 00:15:49.41\00:15:50.91 Well, I'm going to pick up on some of the concepts 00:15:50.95\00:15:55.85 that you've laid. 00:15:55.88\00:15:57.25 And I've got Monday, and Monday, we look at 00:15:57.29\00:16:02.06 "The Consequences of the Fall" 00:16:02.09\00:16:05.53 Now "consequences," what are consequences? 00:16:05.56\00:16:08.40 They are the results of something. 00:16:08.43\00:16:11.80 Some things you can do have immediate consequences 00:16:11.83\00:16:15.30 and that's it, but we're going to find that the consequences 00:16:15.34\00:16:20.78 of the fall... now when we say "fall," 00:16:20.81\00:16:23.98 what is the definition of the fall in our thinking? 00:16:24.05\00:16:28.85 Entrance of sin. It was the entrance of sin. 00:16:28.88\00:16:31.72 It's what Adam and Eve did, the sin, but a fall 00:16:31.75\00:16:36.19 is when someone is in a lofty position, 00:16:36.22\00:16:40.40 and they are lowered - is that not true. That's good. Okay. 00:16:40.43\00:16:45.77 Now what Shelley laid, when God finished making 00:16:45.80\00:16:52.01 this world, His final words were, in Genesis 1:31... 00:16:52.04\00:16:58.01 "It's very good." Now think about this... 00:16:58.05\00:17:02.12 God handed over to Adam and Eve a - what kind of world? 00:17:02.15\00:17:09.39 Perfect. A perfect world. 00:17:09.42\00:17:12.09 No evil or discord, it was esthetically beautiful 00:17:12.13\00:17:17.80 but so much more. Amen! 00:17:17.83\00:17:20.74 We were in perfect - and here's the word that I think is 00:17:20.77\00:17:26.14 so important - perfect harmony. 00:17:26.17\00:17:28.81 Harmonious - what does "harmonious" mean? 00:17:28.84\00:17:32.31 You're in unity and that's what this whole study is about 00:17:32.35\00:17:37.49 is unity - unity in the church. 00:17:37.52\00:17:41.99 But we lost that because of the enormous consequences 00:17:42.02\00:17:48.13 are the results of the actions of Adam and Eve, 00:17:48.16\00:17:54.34 and what did they do? 00:17:54.37\00:17:56.50 They were disobedient and that disobedience is called simply 00:17:56.54\00:18:01.01 Sin. Sin, okay. 00:18:01.04\00:18:03.41 Now the definition of "the fall," consequences 00:18:03.48\00:18:07.25 of Adam's sin - God placed humanity in a high position... 00:18:07.28\00:18:12.39 What was that high position? 00:18:12.42\00:18:14.52 Humanity - what did Adam and Eve have dominion over? 00:18:14.56\00:18:20.93 Just this little...? No, they had dominion over everything. 00:18:20.96\00:18:24.70 That is a lofty and a high position and one other thing... 00:18:24.73\00:18:31.27 They were in an intimate relationship 00:18:31.31\00:18:35.54 with God - were they not? Yes. That's right. 00:18:35.58\00:18:37.35 Adam and Eve sinned and humanity fell down from that high place, 00:18:37.38\00:18:43.79 that's the fall - they fell down from their high place. 00:18:43.82\00:18:47.66 And what happened to the relationship 00:18:47.69\00:18:51.46 between them and God? 00:18:51.49\00:18:52.83 You used the word "fractured," it was ruptured, it was broken. 00:18:52.86\00:18:58.57 Now, the disobedience of Adam and Eve started, 00:18:58.60\00:19:04.67 it began the rupture. 00:19:04.71\00:19:07.24 Now remember I said the consequences of some things 00:19:07.31\00:19:11.11 are immediate? 00:19:11.15\00:19:12.55 Like you get up in the middle of the night and you don't 00:19:12.58\00:19:15.22 turn the lights and you stub your toe... what's the immediate 00:19:15.25\00:19:19.29 consequence of that? OW! 00:19:19.32\00:19:21.66 But you didn't break your toe, I'm just saying you stubbed it, 00:19:21.69\00:19:24.73 so that's immediate, but we see that the consequences 00:19:24.76\00:19:30.70 of this sin in the garden; this disobedience to God, 00:19:30.77\00:19:36.91 it started a process... it had consequences and the 00:19:36.94\00:19:45.25 rupture of the harmony that existed between 00:19:45.28\00:19:52.42 all life forms - how many life forms? All life forms! 00:19:52.45\00:19:56.93 You see, it didn't just affect Adam and 00:19:56.96\00:19:59.69 Eve, what did it affect? 00:19:59.76\00:20:01.10 We're going to see, it affected ALL of humanity, 00:20:01.13\00:20:04.97 all life forms - even worse, it started the disunity, 00:20:05.00\00:20:09.34 the discord and the divisions among all human beings. 00:20:09.37\00:20:14.38 And we see that that has continued to grow even to today. 00:20:14.41\00:20:19.88 Now what is the opposite of harmony? 00:20:19.91\00:20:22.92 Disharmony! What would we rather be in? 00:20:22.95\00:20:26.09 We'd rather be in harmony. Yes 00:20:26.12\00:20:27.69 The opposite is disharmony. 00:20:27.72\00:20:29.86 What was the relationship between Adam and Eve 00:20:29.89\00:20:34.13 and God before the fall? 00:20:34.20\00:20:35.56 What did they do in the cool of the day? 00:20:35.60\00:20:37.73 They walked with God, they talked with God, 00:20:37.77\00:20:41.60 they were in harmony, but immediately after the fall, 00:20:41.64\00:20:46.74 immediately after sin, what was the condition then? 00:20:46.81\00:20:52.28 What did they do? They hid themselves. 00:20:52.31\00:20:57.69 They made coverings for themselves out of fig leaves. 00:20:57.72\00:21:01.69 But the point that I was really driving at is 00:21:01.72\00:21:04.83 they hid themselves and who did they hide themselves from? 00:21:04.86\00:21:10.93 God...Can you hide from God? No. 00:21:10.97\00:21:12.93 Okay, now I want you to turn to Genesis, we're going to 00:21:12.97\00:21:17.61 look in the third chapter, verses 12-13. 00:21:17.64\00:21:21.74 I want us to read these Scriptures. 00:21:21.78\00:21:24.85 "Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, 00:21:24.88\00:21:28.48 "Where are you?" Now God is about to ask 00:21:28.52\00:21:32.25 Adam some questions and Pastor Lomacang, I want to ask 00:21:32.29\00:21:35.02 you this question... 00:21:35.06\00:21:36.79 When God asks you questions, is He looking for information? 00:21:36.83\00:21:40.80 He's looking for confession. 00:21:40.86\00:21:42.33 Confession, because let me tell you 00:21:42.36\00:21:44.57 something, God is all-knowing. Right 00:21:44.60\00:21:46.70 He's not trying to find out to determine something, 00:21:46.77\00:21:52.01 He's wanting you to confess. 00:21:52.04\00:21:55.28 Good point - He wants you to confess. 00:21:55.31\00:21:58.21 So He says to Adam, "Where are you?" 00:21:58.25\00:22:01.52 So he said, (this is what Adam says in return,) 00:22:01.55\00:22:05.82 "I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid 00:22:05.85\00:22:10.33 because I was naked, and I hid myself." 00:22:10.36\00:22:15.43 And God said, (back to Adam) 00:22:15.46\00:22:17.27 Who told you that you were naked?" 00:22:17.33\00:22:20.04 Had he always been naked? Guess so... 00:22:20.10\00:22:22.74 "Who told you, you were naked? 00:22:22.77\00:22:24.84 Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you 00:22:24.87\00:22:28.54 that you should not eat?" 00:22:28.58\00:22:30.15 Now what is the answer, is this a straightforward 00:22:30.21\00:22:32.88 question, Jill? Yes. 00:22:32.91\00:22:34.42 Have you done this and what is the answer? 00:22:34.45\00:22:36.65 It's either "yes" or it's "no." 00:22:36.69\00:22:39.95 Now does God already know? Of course He knows. 00:22:40.02\00:22:42.49 But let's look at what Adam says, verse 12... 00:22:42.52\00:22:46.49 "Then the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, 00:22:46.53\00:22:53.50 she gave me of the tree and I ate." Ha, ha... 00:22:53.57\00:22:57.54 That's called blame, shift and justify isn't it Jill? Yes 00:22:57.57\00:23:00.71 First, that woman - and God, you gave her to me. 00:23:00.78\00:23:05.15 So is he taking responsibility for his actions? No 00:23:05.18\00:23:09.38 And the Lord God said to the woman, "What is this you 00:23:09.42\00:23:13.56 have done?" (and the woman said, 00:23:13.59\00:23:15.66 Lord, I've sinned, please forgive me)... 00:23:15.69\00:23:20.30 What did the woman say? "The serpent deceived me, 00:23:20.33\00:23:25.07 and I ate." What did she do? 00:23:25.10\00:23:27.40 The same thing... blame, shift and justify. 00:23:27.44\00:23:30.31 She blamed it on the serpent. 00:23:30.37\00:23:32.57 Adam - he threw Eve right under the bus. 00:23:32.61\00:23:37.71 She did it and then Eve didn't take responsibility. 00:23:37.75\00:23:42.68 Adam gave Eve up and Eve rather than saying 00:23:42.72\00:23:45.62 "guilty as charged, please forgive me," 00:23:45.65\00:23:48.49 she said "the enemy." 00:23:48.52\00:23:51.09 Now, we're looking at consequences of the fall. 00:23:51.13\00:23:56.03 And here is something - I think this is an important point 00:23:56.06\00:24:00.44 for all of us to grasp... 00:24:00.47\00:24:02.20 We are free moral agents. 00:24:02.24\00:24:04.24 Are we free moral agents? Yes. What does that mean? 00:24:04.31\00:24:06.98 We have freedom to do what we choose to do, 00:24:07.01\00:24:10.25 can we not? We can. Yes, it's true. 00:24:10.28\00:24:11.98 But we can't choose the consequences of 00:24:12.01\00:24:15.12 those choices that we make. That's right. 00:24:15.15\00:24:18.45 We can make the choice, but who chooses 00:24:18.49\00:24:21.76 those consequences? 00:24:21.79\00:24:23.43 See, there's a Scripture that was laid down in Romans 6:23 00:24:23.46\00:24:28.30 and it says... "The wages of sin is death." 00:24:28.33\00:24:32.33 Is there anything we can do to alter that? No. 00:24:32.37\00:24:35.44 We can't change that consequence, 00:24:35.47\00:24:38.34 it's the consequences of our actions. 00:24:38.37\00:24:40.54 Now here are the consequences that the man and the woman 00:24:40.58\00:24:44.55 received consequences of the fall... 00:24:44.58\00:24:48.15 And that would be Genesis 3:16-19... 00:24:48.18\00:24:52.05 Consequences - To the woman He said, 00:24:52.09\00:24:54.36 "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; 00:24:54.39\00:24:58.03 In pain you shall bring forth children; 00:24:58.06\00:25:00.76 Your desire shall be for your husband, 00:25:00.83\00:25:03.06 And he shall rule over you." 00:25:03.10\00:25:04.83 And I want to ask all of you mothers... 00:25:04.87\00:25:07.24 Are you painfully aware that the consequences of 00:25:07.27\00:25:11.44 Eve's choice to disobey God are those consequences that 00:25:11.47\00:25:17.08 have been passed right on to us. Amen 00:25:17.15\00:25:19.75 So she suffered the consequences, but her choice 00:25:19.78\00:25:24.45 brought those consequences on us. 00:25:24.49\00:25:26.69 Well, it continues with Adam... that by the sweat of his brow 00:25:26.76\00:25:33.90 he would work from then on. 00:25:33.93\00:25:35.50 Men, the consequences of what Adam and Eve did, 00:25:35.53\00:25:40.40 the result of their choices have been passed right on down 00:25:40.44\00:25:44.54 to all of humanity. 00:25:44.57\00:25:46.21 So I think my prayer today is that we will be very careful 00:25:46.24\00:25:49.94 when we make our decisions, make our choices, 00:25:50.01\00:25:53.15 that we understand that there are consequences to our actions. 00:25:53.18\00:25:56.95 Amen and Amen! Thank you so much Mollie, well done. 00:25:56.99\00:26:00.49 Well, what we'd like to do right now is just take a quick 00:26:00.52\00:26:03.66 break, stay tuned because we'll be back in 1 minute. 00:26:03.69\00:26:08.06
