Amen. 00:02:43.96\00:02:45.39 Well, today's lesson is entitled 00:02:45.43\00:02:49.03 "The Change of the Law." 00:02:49.06\00:02:50.40 And every one of us have a portion to share 00:02:50.43\00:02:53.34 concerning that subject. 00:02:53.37\00:02:55.60 Now, most specifically 00:02:55.64\00:02:57.87 what we're going to look at is the fourth commandment. 00:02:57.91\00:03:01.81 And I thought to start it 00:03:01.84\00:03:03.65 to lay the foundation for this lesson today. 00:03:03.68\00:03:07.18 I would have every one of you turn to Exodus 20. 00:03:07.22\00:03:11.39 I hope you've got your Bible. 00:03:11.42\00:03:13.02 Turn to Exodus 20, 00:03:13.05\00:03:15.52 we're going to read verses 8 through 11 00:03:15.56\00:03:18.66 which is the fourth commandment. 00:03:18.69\00:03:21.60 So I'm going to read it. 00:03:21.63\00:03:23.47 It starts, 00:03:23.50\00:03:24.83 "Remember the Sabbath, to keep it," what's that word? 00:03:24.87\00:03:28.17 "Holy. 00:03:28.20\00:03:29.54 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 00:03:29.57\00:03:32.74 but the seventh day 00:03:32.77\00:03:34.68 is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. 00:03:34.71\00:03:37.21 In it you shall do no work, you, nor your son, 00:03:37.25\00:03:42.15 nor your daughter, nor your male servant, 00:03:42.18\00:03:44.09 nor your female servant, nor your cattle, 00:03:44.12\00:03:47.12 nor your stranger who is within your gates. 00:03:47.16\00:03:51.16 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, 00:03:51.19\00:03:55.56 the sea, and all that is in them, 00:03:55.60\00:03:57.23 and rested the seventh day. 00:03:57.27\00:03:59.47 Therefore the Lord," did something. 00:03:59.50\00:04:01.90 "He blessed the Sabbath day and He hallowed it." 00:04:01.94\00:04:06.41 Now we are Seventh-day Adventists, 00:04:06.44\00:04:08.64 we kind of give away in our name what we believe, 00:04:08.68\00:04:12.48 we believe that we are to, 00:04:12.51\00:04:14.68 hey, remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, 00:04:14.72\00:04:18.45 just like the scripture tells us to do. 00:04:18.49\00:04:22.09 Although we fully understand 00:04:22.12\00:04:24.93 that salvation is by faith alone, 00:04:24.96\00:04:27.50 do we not? 00:04:27.53\00:04:28.90 And that keeping the law and that includes 00:04:28.93\00:04:31.93 the seventh day Sabbath can never save us. 00:04:31.97\00:04:36.44 We also understand that in the last days, 00:04:36.47\00:04:39.87 obedience to God's law 00:04:39.91\00:04:42.24 including the seventh day Sabbath 00:04:42.28\00:04:45.85 will be the outward sign, 00:04:45.88\00:04:48.85 a mark of where our true allegiance is. 00:04:48.88\00:04:53.86 Now that is an understanding that we have. 00:04:53.89\00:04:56.26 I used to work with a lady, her name was Elora Ford. 00:04:56.29\00:05:00.13 Mrs. Ford. Danny, remember Mrs. Ford? 00:05:00.16\00:05:02.66 Precious, precious lady. 00:05:02.70\00:05:05.30 And even she told me concerning the Sabbath, 00:05:05.33\00:05:09.47 she said in the end time and that's what we're studying, 00:05:09.50\00:05:12.87 preparing for the end time. 00:05:12.91\00:05:15.44 She said, "In the end time, 00:05:15.48\00:05:17.91 the litmus test is going to be 00:05:17.95\00:05:21.78 whether you keep 00:05:21.82\00:05:23.15 the Sabbath day Sabbath or not." 00:05:23.18\00:05:25.95 Now, what is a litmus test? 00:05:25.99\00:05:28.16 A litmus test is a decisive, indicative test. 00:05:28.19\00:05:33.66 Decisive, indicative test. 00:05:33.70\00:05:36.46 And I'm looking into the world now as we see it, 00:05:36.50\00:05:40.24 is our world in turmoil? 00:05:40.27\00:05:42.14 Now, it's been turmoil but it appears to me, 00:05:42.17\00:05:44.61 it seems to me that it's declining to its end. 00:05:44.64\00:05:48.44 The things aren't getting better and better, 00:05:48.48\00:05:50.61 things are getting worse and worse. 00:05:50.65\00:05:52.31 And something even in my short years 00:05:52.35\00:05:55.08 of being alive. 00:05:55.12\00:05:56.45 And they are short, I don't care how old I am, 00:05:56.48\00:05:59.59 when you look at the length of the world, 00:05:59.62\00:06:03.26 how old the world is. 00:06:03.29\00:06:04.73 Looking, it seems to me like 00:06:04.76\00:06:08.80 this litmus test Mrs. Ford was talking about, 00:06:08.83\00:06:11.90 whether you keep the Sabbath or whether you don't. 00:06:11.93\00:06:14.40 You know, that's only two camps, is it not? 00:06:14.44\00:06:17.67 Two camps. Well, I look in the world. 00:06:17.71\00:06:20.28 And this is something that it appears 00:06:20.31\00:06:22.38 as though we're singing. 00:06:22.41\00:06:23.91 There are... 00:06:23.95\00:06:25.28 There is either the camp 00:06:25.31\00:06:27.15 that loves the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ 00:06:27.18\00:06:30.99 or the camp that total rejects, 00:06:31.02\00:06:34.46 we'll call it the antichrist camp, 00:06:34.49\00:06:36.56 totally rejects the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:06:36.59\00:06:39.79 Now, this is what I'm seeing happening. 00:06:39.83\00:06:41.80 It appears as though we're falling into two camps 00:06:41.83\00:06:45.07 whereas remember the nominals, 00:06:45.10\00:06:48.87 they were either a nominal Christian 00:06:48.90\00:06:51.01 or a nominal atheist but there was, 00:06:51.04\00:06:53.17 it appears to me in my thinking a third camp, the great camp. 00:06:53.21\00:06:57.91 Now, it seems to me 00:06:57.95\00:07:00.92 that we're either getting black or white. 00:07:00.95\00:07:04.75 We're either for the Lord Jesus Christ, 00:07:04.79\00:07:07.92 committed to Him or we totally reject. 00:07:07.96\00:07:11.89 It's as though that third camp is disappearing. 00:07:11.93\00:07:15.66 The litmus test, either you acknowledge God 00:07:15.70\00:07:19.50 and serve Him or you reject Him. 00:07:19.53\00:07:23.30 Now, this week we look at the law of God, again, 00:07:23.34\00:07:27.94 especially the Sabbath 00:07:27.98\00:07:29.84 and the attempt to change to the... 00:07:29.88\00:07:32.71 The attempted change to the very commandment 00:07:32.75\00:07:36.35 that God said to do what? 00:07:36.38\00:07:38.05 Remember. 00:07:38.09\00:07:39.42 It's though we are forgetting 00:07:39.45\00:07:41.39 the one thing God told us to remember. 00:07:41.42\00:07:43.69 Now our memory text is Daniel 7:25. 00:07:43.73\00:07:49.26 And I want us to all read this together. 00:07:49.30\00:07:52.67 Daniel 7:25. 00:07:52.70\00:07:54.77 Turn into your Word. 00:07:54.80\00:07:56.20 Get your Sabbath School quarterly 00:07:56.24\00:07:58.41 but get involved in these lessons, 00:07:58.44\00:08:01.04 get involved in this Sabbath School lesson. 00:08:01.08\00:08:03.81 Let's read together, 00:08:03.85\00:08:05.45 "He will speak against the Most High 00:08:05.48\00:08:08.25 and oppress his holy people 00:08:08.28\00:08:10.42 and try to change the set times and the laws. 00:08:10.45\00:08:14.56 The holy people will be delivered 00:08:14.59\00:08:16.93 into his hands for a time and times 00:08:16.96\00:08:20.73 and half a time." 00:08:20.76\00:08:22.23 Now, I'm honored to have 00:08:22.26\00:08:24.43 as my portion of the lesson today, Sunday. 00:08:24.47\00:08:28.04 And Sunday's title is the promise. 00:08:28.07\00:08:31.64 One of the greatest promises 00:08:31.67\00:08:33.84 in the Bible is found in Romans 8:1. 00:08:33.88\00:08:36.75 So go ahead and turn to Romans 8:1. 00:08:36.78\00:08:39.38 And you're going to stay there for a little while. 00:08:39.41\00:08:42.25 Romans 8:1, this great promise. 00:08:42.28\00:08:45.52 And let me read it to you. 00:08:45.55\00:08:47.49 "There is therefore now no condemnation 00:08:47.52\00:08:51.59 to those who are in Christ Jesus. 00:08:51.63\00:08:55.66 Who do not walk according to the flesh 00:08:55.70\00:08:58.60 but according to the Spirit." 00:08:58.63\00:09:01.44 Now, this promise is a kind of a capstone 00:09:01.47\00:09:05.31 or a conclusion that Paul is drawing 00:09:05.34\00:09:09.61 to a train of thought 00:09:09.64\00:09:11.61 that he had developed in chapter 7. 00:09:11.65\00:09:14.85 Now, I want us to look at Romans 7, 00:09:14.88\00:09:17.82 we're going to look at verses 15 through 25. 00:09:17.85\00:09:21.52 And what Paul is doing and it's titled, 00:09:21.56\00:09:24.89 "The wretched man of Romans 7." 00:09:24.93\00:09:27.36 Oh, wretched man that I am he says in the end. 00:09:27.40\00:09:30.10 But he is showing us the reality of sin. 00:09:30.13\00:09:33.57 But oh, thank God for the promises of God. 00:09:33.60\00:09:35.87 But I want to read this to you very quickly. 00:09:35.90\00:09:38.57 Paul says, "For what am I doing, 00:09:38.61\00:09:41.88 I do not understand, 00:09:41.91\00:09:43.91 for what I will to do that I do not practice. 00:09:43.95\00:09:48.32 But what I hate, that I do." You ever been there? 00:09:48.35\00:09:51.69 "If, then, I do what I will not to do, 00:09:51.72\00:09:54.29 I agree with the law that it is good. 00:09:54.32\00:09:56.83 But now, it is no longer I who do it, 00:09:56.86\00:09:59.29 but sin that dwells in me. 00:09:59.33\00:10:02.06 For I know that in me, 00:10:02.10\00:10:03.43 that is, in my flesh nothing good dwells, 00:10:03.47\00:10:06.57 for to will is present with me, 00:10:06.60\00:10:08.74 but how to perform what is good I do not find. 00:10:08.77\00:10:12.47 For the good that I will to do, I do not do, 00:10:12.51\00:10:14.94 but the evil I will not to do, that I practice." 00:10:14.98\00:10:18.91 Verse 20, "Now if I do what I will not to do, 00:10:18.95\00:10:21.82 it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 00:10:21.85\00:10:26.05 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, 00:10:26.09\00:10:29.62 the one who wills to do good. 00:10:29.66\00:10:32.39 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man." 00:10:32.43\00:10:36.56 Spirits will and but... 00:10:36.60\00:10:38.30 Flesh is weak. Weak flesh. 00:10:38.33\00:10:40.90 "But I see another law at work in my members in my flesh, 00:10:40.94\00:10:44.74 warring against the law of my mind, 00:10:44.77\00:10:46.61 and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin 00:10:46.64\00:10:49.58 which is in my members." 00:10:49.61\00:10:51.11 Paul says, "O wretched man that I am! 00:10:51.15\00:10:54.95 Who will deliver me from this body of sin, 00:10:54.98\00:10:57.82 this body of death?" 00:10:57.85\00:10:59.19 He asks a question. You know what he does. 00:10:59.22\00:11:01.89 He answers it. 00:11:01.92\00:11:03.66 So how is Paul feeling about himself right now? 00:11:03.69\00:11:06.80 O wretched man that I am! Who's going to deliver me. 00:11:06.83\00:11:09.46 He feels condemned, he feels hopeless. 00:11:09.50\00:11:13.30 And that there is no hope. Have you ever felt that way? 00:11:13.34\00:11:18.07 Just because of your own actions, 00:11:18.11\00:11:20.38 I meant that I was never going to do that again 00:11:20.41\00:11:23.24 and I have done it three times today. 00:11:23.28\00:11:25.81 O wretched man that I am! 00:11:25.85\00:11:28.02 Thank God that Paul answers his question. 00:11:28.05\00:11:32.65 And that is in verse 25. 00:11:32.69\00:11:36.26 "I thank God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! 00:11:36.29\00:11:39.56 So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, 00:11:39.59\00:11:43.50 but with the flesh the law of sin." 00:11:43.53\00:11:45.13 Now I want to read verse 25 to you in the Amplified. 00:11:45.17\00:11:48.34 Now, Danny, here's what the Amplified Bible does. 00:11:48.37\00:11:50.57 It amplifies. Imagine that. 00:11:50.61\00:11:53.27 Okay, Amplified Bible. 00:11:53.31\00:11:55.58 This is what it says, "Oh, thank God, He will." 00:11:55.61\00:11:59.31 Meaning God will 00:11:59.35\00:12:00.68 because remember the question that Paul asked. 00:12:00.72\00:12:03.18 Who's going to deliver me from this body of death? 00:12:03.22\00:12:07.72 Oh, thank God, God will. 00:12:07.76\00:12:09.86 "Through Jesus Christ, the Anointed One, our Lord. 00:12:09.89\00:12:13.70 So then indeed I of myself with the mind and heart 00:12:13.73\00:12:17.07 serve the law of God 00:12:17.10\00:12:18.57 but with the flesh the law of sin." 00:12:18.60\00:12:20.74 Then comes that promise 00:12:20.77\00:12:22.44 that we started out with the promise. 00:12:22.47\00:12:25.01 "There is therefore now, no condemnation." 00:12:25.04\00:12:28.84 How was Paul's feeling when he said, 00:12:28.88\00:12:30.81 "Oh, wretched man that I am?" 00:12:30.85\00:12:32.35 Condemned. Oh. 00:12:32.38\00:12:34.45 "There is therefore right now, 00:12:34.48\00:12:37.42 no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus." 00:12:37.45\00:12:41.89 Paul takes this hopeless situation 00:12:41.92\00:12:45.66 and turns it into hope. 00:12:45.69\00:12:50.27 But there is a prerequisite, 00:12:50.30\00:12:52.63 "Who do not walk according to the flesh 00:12:52.67\00:12:56.74 but according to the spirit." 00:12:56.77\00:12:59.27 Paul makes the reality of sin very real. 00:12:59.31\00:13:04.01 And I think we can all relate to this. 00:13:04.05\00:13:07.08 That's a struggle. 00:13:07.12\00:13:08.82 I don't know about you, 00:13:08.85\00:13:10.19 but I find times when it's just a struggle. 00:13:10.22\00:13:13.42 Matthew and Mark both tells us 00:13:13.46\00:13:15.92 that our spirit indeed is willing 00:13:15.96\00:13:19.03 but our flesh is weak, for Paul the problem 00:13:19.06\00:13:24.03 we all face today isn't the law. 00:13:24.07\00:13:27.97 And remember, we're looking at the changing of the law, 00:13:28.00\00:13:31.04 it's not the law that's the problem. 00:13:31.07\00:13:33.48 What's the problem? Sin. 00:13:33.51\00:13:35.01 Sin is the problem. 00:13:35.04\00:13:36.95 Our problem isn't the law of God, 00:13:36.98\00:13:39.98 it's not the Word of God, 00:13:40.02\00:13:42.12 it's sin that is at work in our flesh. 00:13:42.15\00:13:46.12 There is therefore now no condemnation 00:13:46.15\00:13:48.46 to those who are in Christ Jesus 00:13:48.49\00:13:50.73 who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. 00:13:50.76\00:13:54.33 Now, Shelley, I know I'm getting on your ground, 00:13:54.36\00:13:57.17 because you are going to look at the next verse. 00:13:57.20\00:14:00.04 But the next verse is kind of the capstone. 00:14:00.07\00:14:03.54 "For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus 00:14:03.57\00:14:08.84 has made me free from the law of sin and death." 00:14:08.88\00:14:11.41 You see, at one time this law of sin and death 00:14:11.45\00:14:15.42 was the law that we were under. 00:14:15.45\00:14:17.29 But when we make Jesus Christ the Lord of our life, 00:14:17.32\00:14:20.76 we come under a new legal system 00:14:20.79\00:14:22.92 and it is called the law of the Spirit of Life 00:14:22.96\00:14:26.73 in Christ Jesus. 00:14:26.76\00:14:28.46 Sister Shelley. 00:14:28.50\00:14:29.83 I'm glad you said that 00:14:29.86\00:14:31.20 'cause I'm not sure I even addressed 00:14:31.23\00:14:32.57 that one in my notes. 00:14:32.60\00:14:35.27 Okay. 00:14:35.30\00:14:37.14 Mollie, thank you for showing us 00:14:37.17\00:14:38.64 the reality of sin even in the Christian's life. 00:14:38.67\00:14:42.28 But in the previous verse as Paul points out 00:14:42.31\00:14:46.25 the prevalence of sin and how deadly it is. 00:14:46.28\00:14:49.18 So Monday's lesson is the law and sin. 00:14:49.22\00:14:53.39 And we're going to... 00:14:53.42\00:14:54.86 I'm going to read very rapidly, Romans 7:1-14 00:14:54.89\00:14:59.89 then we're going to take it apart. 00:14:59.93\00:15:01.86 But I think it's important that we read this scripture. 00:15:01.90\00:15:05.17 Romans 7:1-14. 00:15:05.20\00:15:06.84 Paul says, "Or do you not know, brethren, 00:15:06.87\00:15:09.37 for I speak to those who know the law, 00:15:09.40\00:15:12.34 that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? 00:15:12.37\00:15:15.78 For the woman who has a husband is bound 00:15:15.81\00:15:17.98 by the law to her husband as long as he lives. 00:15:18.01\00:15:20.15 But if the husband dies, 00:15:20.18\00:15:21.78 she is released from the law of her husband. 00:15:21.82\00:15:25.15 So then if, while her husband lives, 00:15:25.19\00:15:27.29 she marries another man, 00:15:27.32\00:15:28.66 she will be called an adulteress, 00:15:28.69\00:15:30.03 but if her husband dies, she is free from the law, 00:15:30.06\00:15:32.63 so that she is no adulteress, 00:15:32.66\00:15:34.60 though she has married another man. 00:15:34.63\00:15:35.96 Therefore, my brethren, 00:15:36.00\00:15:37.33 you also have become dead to the law 00:15:37.37\00:15:40.24 through the body of Christ, 00:15:40.27\00:15:41.60 that you may be married to another, to Him 00:15:41.64\00:15:43.91 who was raised from the dead, 00:15:43.94\00:15:45.87 that we should bear fruit to God. 00:15:45.91\00:15:47.94 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions 00:15:47.98\00:15:50.91 which were aroused by the law were at work 00:15:50.95\00:15:53.28 in our members to bear fruit to death. 00:15:53.31\00:15:55.62 But now we have been delivered from the law, 00:15:55.65\00:15:57.85 having died to what we were held by, 00:15:57.89\00:16:01.49 so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit 00:16:01.52\00:16:04.66 and not in the oldness of the letter. 00:16:04.69\00:16:06.86 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! 00:16:06.90\00:16:09.60 On the contrary, 00:16:09.63\00:16:11.27 I would not have known sin except through the law. 00:16:11.30\00:16:14.04 For I would not have known covetousness 00:16:14.07\00:16:16.14 unless the law had said, 'You shall not covet.' 00:16:16.17\00:16:18.51 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, 00:16:18.54\00:16:21.31 produced in me all manner of evil desire. 00:16:21.34\00:16:23.58 For apart from the law sin was dead. 00:16:23.61\00:16:26.21 I was once alive without the law, 00:16:26.25\00:16:28.95 but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. 00:16:28.98\00:16:32.52 And the commandment, which was to bring life, 00:16:32.55\00:16:34.09 I found to bring death. 00:16:34.12\00:16:35.72 For sin, taking occasion 00:16:35.76\00:16:37.16 by the commandment, deceived me, and it killed me. 00:16:37.19\00:16:39.16 Therefore the law is holy, 00:16:39.19\00:16:40.90 and the commandment holy and just and good. 00:16:40.93\00:16:44.20 Has then what is good become death to me? 00:16:44.23\00:16:46.63 Certainly not! 00:16:46.67\00:16:48.00 But sin, that it might appear sin, 00:16:48.04\00:16:49.90 was producing death in me through what is good, 00:16:49.94\00:16:52.41 so that the sin through the commandment 00:16:52.44\00:16:54.88 might become exceedingly sinful. 00:16:54.91\00:16:57.58 For we know that the law is spiritual, 00:16:57.61\00:16:59.35 but I am carnal, sold under sin." 00:16:59.38\00:17:02.55 Okay. What did we just say? 00:17:02.58\00:17:06.02 You know, you read Revelation, 00:17:06.05\00:17:07.82 I mean Romans 7:1-14 00:17:07.86\00:17:09.99 and so many believers are unsure 00:17:10.03\00:17:13.73 about the relationship between the law and grace. 00:17:13.76\00:17:18.53 And what was happening, 00:17:18.57\00:17:19.90 the reason Paul was writing this in the first place 00:17:19.93\00:17:22.67 is his opponents 00:17:22.70\00:17:25.21 thought that the gospel of grace 00:17:25.24\00:17:27.68 was trying to harm or do away with God's law. 00:17:27.71\00:17:32.25 And we've got people today who actually believe 00:17:32.28\00:17:34.92 the gospel of grace just do away with God's law. 00:17:34.95\00:17:38.65 So let's look, 00:17:38.69\00:17:40.72 you know, Paul extolled the virtues of the law, did he? 00:17:40.76\00:17:44.46 He said, it was good, it was just, it was spiritual, 00:17:44.49\00:17:48.70 it's holy. 00:17:48.73\00:17:50.30 So let's look at what the law does. 00:17:50.33\00:17:53.67 Number one, the law reflects the nature of the lawgiver. 00:17:53.70\00:17:59.81 The law reflects the purity of God's character. 00:17:59.84\00:18:04.55 God is holy, He is just, He is good, He is spiritual. 00:18:04.58\00:18:09.95 And Paul just got through saying 00:18:09.98\00:18:11.99 that the law is holy, 00:18:12.02\00:18:14.16 good and righteous, it's spiritual. 00:18:14.19\00:18:16.39 So how did this holy, 00:18:16.42\00:18:18.23 good and righteous law make Paul dead? 00:18:18.26\00:18:22.93 As you've already said the law kills no one. 00:18:22.96\00:18:25.67 It is sin which kills. 00:18:25.70\00:18:29.20 So number two, the law outlines 00:18:29.24\00:18:32.67 the standards of behavior 00:18:32.71\00:18:35.91 that God regards as righteous. 00:18:35.94\00:18:40.35 And when the sin nature confronts the law, 00:18:40.38\00:18:44.15 what you've just seen and what Paul is saying here, 00:18:44.19\00:18:47.86 sin brings to life. 00:18:47.89\00:18:51.06 So when sin brings to life, what happens? 00:18:51.09\00:18:54.16 We die. 00:18:54.20\00:18:55.53 But this reveals how contemptible 00:18:55.56\00:18:59.07 the sin nature is. 00:18:59.10\00:19:00.44 When you can take something that is holy, 00:19:00.47\00:19:03.10 and just, and righteous, and use it for evil purposes, 00:19:03.14\00:19:09.64 that's just the contemptibleness 00:19:09.68\00:19:11.68 of our sin nature. 00:19:11.71\00:19:13.08 So the problem's not within the law, 00:19:13.11\00:19:16.18 the problem is in our sin nature. 00:19:16.22\00:19:18.59 Yes. All right. 00:19:18.62\00:19:20.36 The third thing. 00:19:20.39\00:19:21.72 The law reveals our need for a savior. 00:19:21.76\00:19:27.50 The utter sinfulness of our sin 00:19:27.53\00:19:33.34 enslaved us before we died with Christ. 00:19:33.37\00:19:38.77 You know, Romans 6 before we died 00:19:38.81\00:19:40.61 and were buried in baptism 00:19:40.64\00:19:42.14 and raised up to newness of life. 00:19:42.18\00:19:44.41 When we had a sin nature, 00:19:44.45\00:19:47.62 what is it, Roman 6:16 that says, 00:19:47.65\00:19:49.88 "We're either enslaved to sin 00:19:49.92\00:19:52.22 which leads to death or obedience 00:19:52.25\00:19:55.69 which leads to righteousness," right? 00:19:55.72\00:19:58.29 So what Paul is arguing here is the good news of sinners 00:19:58.33\00:20:02.93 being justified freely by God's grace. 00:20:02.96\00:20:06.23 So the three purposes of the law, 00:20:06.27\00:20:08.30 the law reveals the nature of the lawgiver. 00:20:08.34\00:20:12.61 It reveals His character. 00:20:12.64\00:20:15.78 It outlines the standards of behavior 00:20:15.81\00:20:18.58 that God accepts as righteous 00:20:18.61\00:20:22.05 that what He regards as righteous. 00:20:22.08\00:20:25.25 And it reveals our need for a savior. 00:20:25.29\00:20:26.89 Do we still need a law? 00:20:26.92\00:20:29.42 I mean, there's no question 00:20:29.46\00:20:31.39 about whether or not we need the law. 00:20:31.43\00:20:34.00 So when we think about 00:20:34.03\00:20:38.13 what Paul is arguing here, 00:20:38.17\00:20:39.90 he's saying the good news for sinners 00:20:39.93\00:20:42.27 is we're justified freely 00:20:42.30\00:20:43.77 by God's grace to honor and satisfy, 00:20:43.81\00:20:47.28 the demands of the law have been fulfilled, 00:20:47.31\00:20:50.21 and we uphold the law. 00:20:50.25\00:20:53.52 And we are simultaneously released 00:20:53.55\00:20:57.85 from trying to be justified by the law. 00:20:57.89\00:21:03.73 We are released from the efforts of... 00:21:03.76\00:21:08.13 We died to the law for justification 00:21:08.16\00:21:10.87 is what Paul is saying. 00:21:10.90\00:21:12.73 Does that make sense? 00:21:12.77\00:21:14.30 You know, some people think 00:21:14.34\00:21:15.70 that through obedience we're going to be saved. 00:21:15.74\00:21:18.37 No. 00:21:18.41\00:21:19.74 Through disobedience you can be lost, 00:21:19.77\00:21:21.21 but through obedience you're not going to be saved, 00:21:21.24\00:21:23.04 it's only the blood of Jesus Christ 00:21:23.08\00:21:24.95 and accepting Jesus as your Savior, 00:21:24.98\00:21:26.98 we are saved by grace through faith, 00:21:27.02\00:21:28.62 not of works that any man can boast. 00:21:28.65\00:21:31.35 So we are, we died to the law for justification, 00:21:31.39\00:21:35.92 we die to all efforts trying to be justified by it. 00:21:35.96\00:21:41.50 And we are alive in Christ liberated 00:21:41.53\00:21:45.27 by love to live a morally fruitful life. 00:21:45.30\00:21:49.47 Let me tell you something, 00:21:49.50\00:21:50.84 when you are motivated by love for God, 00:21:50.87\00:21:54.84 and when you understand what Christ has done for you, 00:21:54.88\00:21:57.08 you'll be motivated by love for God. 00:21:57.11\00:21:59.75 Then you're not walking in obedience to be saved, 00:21:59.78\00:22:04.22 you know, you're saved, 00:22:04.25\00:22:05.59 you're not walking in obedience to be saved, 00:22:05.62\00:22:07.46 you're walking in obedience out of loyalty 00:22:07.49\00:22:11.26 to your love for God. 00:22:11.29\00:22:12.89 That's right. 00:22:12.93\00:22:14.26 So now let's look at Romans 6:16-18. 00:22:14.30\00:22:17.50 That was in my notes, I didn't even know. 00:22:17.53\00:22:20.84 Romans 6:16-18. 00:22:20.87\00:22:23.51 Paul says, "Do you not know that to whom 00:22:23.54\00:22:25.31 you present yourselves slaves to obey, 00:22:25.34\00:22:27.58 you are that one's slaves whom you obey, 00:22:27.61\00:22:30.28 whether of sin leading to death, 00:22:30.31\00:22:32.81 or of obedience leading to righteousness? 00:22:32.85\00:22:35.55 But God be thanked 00:22:35.58\00:22:37.59 that though you were slaves of sin, 00:22:37.62\00:22:40.99 yet you obeyed from the heart 00:22:41.02\00:22:43.43 that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 00:22:43.46\00:22:46.46 And having been set free from sin," and what is sin? 00:22:46.49\00:22:49.86 Sin is a transgression of the law. 00:22:49.90\00:22:52.03 "Having been set free from sin, 00:22:52.07\00:22:55.40 you become slaves to righteousness." 00:22:55.44\00:22:57.44 Amen. Hallelujah. 00:22:57.47\00:22:58.81 I mean, you are yoked with Christ, 00:22:58.84\00:23:01.38 He is carrying you through, is He not? 00:23:01.41\00:23:03.95 So the law still reflects God's nature. 00:23:03.98\00:23:07.75 It reflects His expectations. 00:23:07.78\00:23:10.19 And it's very relevant to the believer today. 00:23:10.22\00:23:12.75 I want to read you something, 00:23:12.79\00:23:14.39 many of you appreciate Oswald Chambers. 00:23:14.42\00:23:18.46 I hear often of Oswald Chambers. 00:23:18.49\00:23:22.00 And I want to read 00:23:22.03\00:23:23.47 what he said about verse 9 00:23:23.50\00:23:26.94 which Romans 7:9 says, 00:23:26.97\00:23:30.74 "I was alive once without the law, 00:23:30.77\00:23:32.77 but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died." 00:23:32.81\00:23:36.14 So let's look at Oswald Chambers. 00:23:36.18\00:23:38.15 He says, "The moral law 00:23:38.18\00:23:39.51 does not consider our weaknesses 00:23:39.55\00:23:40.88 as human beings, in fact it is not taken 00:23:40.92\00:23:43.12 into account our heredity or infirmities, 00:23:43.15\00:23:46.15 it simply demands that we absolutely moral. 00:23:46.19\00:23:49.89 The moral law never changes." Okay. 00:23:49.92\00:23:52.73 That's what he says. 00:23:52.76\00:23:54.10 "The moral law never changes, 00:23:54.13\00:23:55.96 either for the highest of society 00:23:56.00\00:23:57.83 or for the weakest of the world, 00:23:57.87\00:23:59.30 it is enduring and eternally the same." 00:23:59.33\00:24:03.67 So the moral laws, 00:24:03.71\00:24:05.04 the Ten Commandments are still there. 00:24:05.07\00:24:06.61 "The moral law ordained by God does not make itself weak 00:24:06.64\00:24:10.15 to the weak, excuse our short comings, 00:24:10.18\00:24:12.51 it remains absolute for all time and eternity. 00:24:12.55\00:24:17.65 If we are not aware of this, 00:24:17.69\00:24:19.92 it is because we are less than alive. 00:24:19.95\00:24:21.72 Once we do realize it, 00:24:21.76\00:24:23.96 our life immediately becomes a fatal tragedy, 00:24:23.99\00:24:26.66 I was once alive without the law, 00:24:26.70\00:24:29.16 but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died." 00:24:29.20\00:24:33.03 And then we know we need a Savior, 00:24:33.07\00:24:35.94 that's what it's all about. 00:24:35.97\00:24:37.67 The moral law reflects 00:24:37.71\00:24:39.97 God's character, it shows us the... 00:24:40.01\00:24:44.28 What He expects from us to be righteous, 00:24:44.31\00:24:47.78 but it's through Christ 00:24:47.82\00:24:49.15 that we receive this righteousness. 00:24:49.18\00:24:51.09 And it shows us our need for a Savior. 00:24:51.12\00:24:53.52 Amen. Amen. 00:24:53.56\00:24:54.89 I am so glad that you ended 00:24:54.92\00:24:56.76 with a quote from Oswald Chambers 00:24:56.79\00:24:58.39 who is not a member of our faith group, 00:24:58.43\00:25:00.56 but who affirms the perpetuity of the moral law 00:25:00.60\00:25:05.00 because my particular portion deals 00:25:05.03\00:25:09.04 with Sabbath the Sunday, which deals with a change 00:25:09.07\00:25:12.71 or an attempted change in that law. 00:25:12.74\00:25:15.61 It's predicted in Daniel 7:25 00:25:15.64\00:25:17.45 that there will be an attempt to change times and laws. 00:25:17.48\00:25:21.82 And I appreciate 00:25:21.85\00:25:23.39 what the author of the lesson seeks 00:25:23.42\00:25:25.49 to accomplish here because what he's trying to do 00:25:25.52\00:25:27.92 is cut through a lot of the chaff, 00:25:27.96\00:25:31.16 the detritus and kind of hone in on the issue 00:25:31.19\00:25:34.50 because the author is saying. 00:25:34.53\00:25:37.37 And I know the author of the lesson, 00:25:37.40\00:25:39.13 he says that this idea that we're not under the law 00:25:39.17\00:25:42.37 but under grace is really a smokescreen 00:25:42.40\00:25:45.44 for not wanting to keep the Sabbath. 00:25:45.47\00:25:48.21 But if Chambers even knows it that the moral law, 00:25:48.24\00:25:52.05 the Ten Commandments is unchanging. 00:25:52.08\00:25:54.15 It is unchanged, 00:25:54.18\00:25:55.52 it is as unchanging as is its author. 00:25:55.55\00:25:59.99 It does not change. 00:26:00.02\00:26:03.66 What people are trying to do 00:26:03.69\00:26:05.03 is justify the rejection of the fourth commandment. 00:26:05.06\00:26:09.33 They're trying to justify 00:26:09.36\00:26:10.87 the rejection of not keeping the Sabbath. 00:26:10.90\00:26:13.77 They have no problem with 00:26:13.80\00:26:15.14 "Thou shalt not commit adultery," 00:26:15.17\00:26:16.50 that's fine, they have no problem with 00:26:16.54\00:26:18.04 "Thou shalt not covet," that's fine. 00:26:18.07\00:26:20.61 They have no problem with 00:26:20.64\00:26:21.98 "Honor thy father and thy mother," that's fine. 00:26:22.01\00:26:24.28 They have no problem with 00:26:24.31\00:26:25.65 "Thou shalt not steal," that's fine. 00:26:25.68\00:26:27.85 The issue is Sabbath. 00:26:27.88\00:26:30.95 It's the Sabbath 00:26:30.99\00:26:32.45 and not wanting to keep the Sabbath. 00:26:32.49\00:26:33.82 And what is sad 00:26:33.86\00:26:35.19 is that God signs His name in the Sabbath, 00:26:35.22\00:26:38.33 in the fourth commandment. 00:26:38.36\00:26:39.69 That's how we know 00:26:39.73\00:26:41.06 who is giving us the fourth commandment 00:26:41.10\00:26:42.80 because that is where God chooses to sign His name. 00:26:42.83\00:26:47.44 So they are rejecting a God commanded day 00:26:47.47\00:26:53.27 in favor of a day based on tradition. 00:26:53.31\00:26:58.18 So this portion of the lesson 00:26:58.21\00:27:01.85 adopts a defensive posture 00:27:01.88\00:27:04.22 in looking at some of the materials 00:27:04.25\00:27:06.35 that first day worshippers used 00:27:06.39\00:27:08.56 to defend their particular practice. 00:27:08.59\00:27:11.36 And so, he looks at three particular texts 00:27:11.39\00:27:14.63 that people will often point 00:27:14.66\00:27:16.16 to as justification for the change of the day. 00:27:16.20\00:27:20.87 But when you really look at them, 00:27:20.90\00:27:24.04 they do not make that justification. 00:27:24.07\00:27:25.64 No, I don't have time to read all of them, 00:27:25.67\00:27:27.68 so I'll summarize them and then try to readdress them 00:27:27.71\00:27:30.41 as best I can in the time allotted to me. 00:27:30.45\00:27:32.88 John 20:19-23. 00:27:32.91\00:27:36.85 There is a meeting 00:27:36.89\00:27:39.55 of the disciples 00:27:39.59\00:27:43.16 that people will say is a worship service. 00:27:43.19\00:27:48.36 And as such justifies 00:27:48.40\00:27:50.17 the change of the day but it is not. 00:27:50.20\00:27:52.23 The text says 00:27:52.27\00:27:53.80 that the disciples are locked in a room 00:27:53.84\00:27:56.20 on Sunday night for fear of the Jews. 00:27:56.24\00:27:59.17 This is not a work of church service... 00:27:59.21\00:28:01.24 Sunday night, when though? What's? 00:28:01.28\00:28:02.71 Sunday evening, the evening... 00:28:02.74\00:28:04.08 Following what? Following the resurrection. 00:28:04.11\00:28:06.31 Yes. Thank you. 00:28:06.35\00:28:07.68 Following the resurrection. 00:28:07.72\00:28:09.05 They're locked in a room 00:28:09.08\00:28:10.42 because they're afraid the Jews gonna come 00:28:10.45\00:28:11.79 and get them, you know. 00:28:11.82\00:28:13.15 So Christ comes in. 00:28:13.19\00:28:14.66 And praise the Lord, one of the things 00:28:14.69\00:28:16.19 that He did before returning to heaven, 00:28:16.22\00:28:18.53 He had a lot to do was to comfort His disciples, 00:28:18.56\00:28:21.56 they're scattered, they're afraid, 00:28:21.60\00:28:23.30 they're locked in a room. 00:28:23.33\00:28:25.20 Christ comes to them to give them comfort. 00:28:25.23\00:28:28.70 So Jesus appears. 00:28:28.74\00:28:30.44 So it's not, it's not anything 00:28:30.47\00:28:33.94 that justifies the change of the day. 00:28:33.98\00:28:36.54 This is a bunch of scared guys who Christ is coming to say, 00:28:36.58\00:28:40.22 it's going to be all right, it's going to be good, 00:28:40.25\00:28:43.72 I've left but you've got comfort. 00:28:43.75\00:28:45.72 And I'm here to give you comfort 00:28:45.75\00:28:49.82 and to encourage you. 00:28:49.86\00:28:51.93 The next meeting we have is Acts 20:6, 7. 00:28:51.96\00:28:56.97 And the text tells us 00:28:57.00\00:28:59.20 that they met on the first day of the week. 00:28:59.23\00:29:03.81 Now we need to walk through this 00:29:03.84\00:29:05.17 because some people are saying, 00:29:05.21\00:29:06.54 well, that is a Sunday morning worship service. 00:29:06.57\00:29:08.38 It is not. 00:29:08.41\00:29:09.74 And the Bible gives us no indication that that it is. 00:29:09.78\00:29:13.65 It is a group of people meeting on a Saturday evening. 00:29:13.68\00:29:18.92 Now remember, we're dealing with Bible times 00:29:18.95\00:29:20.96 when the evening and the morning 00:29:20.99\00:29:23.93 were the first day. 00:29:23.96\00:29:25.29 So Sunday, the first day of the week 00:29:25.33\00:29:28.40 begins on Saturday evening at sundown. 00:29:28.43\00:29:31.37 There are a lot of things that sort of allude to that. 00:29:31.40\00:29:33.44 The text tells us 00:29:33.47\00:29:34.80 that there were a lot of lamps on. 00:29:34.84\00:29:36.40 You know, there are a lot of lights, torches, 00:29:36.44\00:29:38.37 lamps burning in the window. 00:29:38.41\00:29:39.81 So you wouldn't have that in the middle of the day. 00:29:39.84\00:29:42.41 So this is a Sunday evening service, 00:29:42.44\00:29:44.38 they met to eat. 00:29:44.41\00:29:46.31 Paul is getting ready to leave. 00:29:46.35\00:29:48.78 And so he preaches, you know, his farewell address. 00:29:48.82\00:29:51.95 And evident he preaches on into the evening. 00:29:51.99\00:29:54.56 You know, those of us who are preachers that, 00:29:54.59\00:29:56.62 that can happen occasionally. 00:29:56.66\00:29:58.03 You know, you preach on and he's exciting, 00:29:58.06\00:30:00.30 he's trying to encourage them. 00:30:00.33\00:30:02.30 Eutychus is sitting in a window, it's hot. 00:30:02.33\00:30:05.77 And you know, we've all had a thing 00:30:05.80\00:30:07.24 where sometimes it's kind of hot and preacher 00:30:07.27\00:30:08.64 kind of whacks a little bit 00:30:08.67\00:30:10.01 and you kind of want to nod off on him. 00:30:10.04\00:30:12.37 But he's in a window on the third floor. 00:30:12.41\00:30:15.18 And, of course, the heat, the length of the day, 00:30:15.21\00:30:18.18 it's heading towards midnight 00:30:18.21\00:30:19.55 and Paul's preaching up a storm, 00:30:19.58\00:30:20.92 trying to give that farewell address. 00:30:20.95\00:30:22.28 He falls asleep, falls from the third floor 00:30:22.32\00:30:24.89 and, of course, he's taken up dead. 00:30:24.92\00:30:26.32 And we see one of the first miracles 00:30:26.35\00:30:28.39 of the New Testament times in that he is, 00:30:28.42\00:30:33.09 he is resurrected, 00:30:33.13\00:30:34.46 you know, a beautiful, beautiful service 00:30:34.50\00:30:37.20 but there is no indication here that the day has been changed, 00:30:37.23\00:30:41.40 it's a Saturday night service, 00:30:41.44\00:30:43.34 not even a Sunday morning service. 00:30:43.37\00:30:45.01 And I think that miracles, why Luke put that in, 00:30:45.04\00:30:48.54 wrote it in there. 00:30:48.58\00:30:49.91 I do believe, I do believe. 00:30:49.94\00:30:51.41 So again, no justification for the change of the day. 00:30:51.45\00:30:56.15 And the third 00:30:56.18\00:30:58.55 is this. 00:30:58.59\00:31:02.49 Let's see, that's Acts... 00:31:02.52\00:31:04.63 Oh, 1 Corinthians 16. There we go. 00:31:04.66\00:31:06.66 1 Corinthians 16, we got so many notes here. 00:31:06.70\00:31:11.03 Again it says nothing about the change of the day. 00:31:11.07\00:31:15.20 Paul is giving counsel, he's saying this. 00:31:15.24\00:31:18.44 "When I come I don't want a lot of money changing 00:31:18.47\00:31:20.88 and changing and correcting of things. 00:31:20.91\00:31:23.71 Lay your money aside on the first day of the week, 00:31:23.75\00:31:26.45 put your money, get your money together, 00:31:26.48\00:31:28.22 do your accounting on the first day of the week 00:31:28.25\00:31:30.05 so that when I come there's no handling of money 00:31:30.09\00:31:33.32 and changing of things, 00:31:33.36\00:31:34.89 we don't have to deal with that. 00:31:34.92\00:31:36.26 But this actually is a personal admonition 00:31:36.29\00:31:39.79 for each of you to get your moneys together 00:31:39.83\00:31:42.83 on the first day of the week. 00:31:42.86\00:31:44.20 There's nothing collective about this. 00:31:44.23\00:31:45.60 So there's not a worship service, 00:31:45.63\00:31:47.70 it's in your house, 00:31:47.74\00:31:49.17 you put your money together, in your house, Mollie, 00:31:49.20\00:31:51.37 you put your money together. 00:31:51.41\00:31:52.74 Danny, in your house, you put your money together. 00:31:52.77\00:31:54.91 Jill, in your house, you put your money. 00:31:54.94\00:31:56.28 There's nothing collective about it. 00:31:56.31\00:31:58.01 It's counsel to individuals to take care of the accounting 00:31:58.05\00:32:02.45 before I come so that when I get there, 00:32:02.48\00:32:04.89 this is already taken care of. 00:32:04.92\00:32:06.55 So those three texts 00:32:06.59\00:32:09.02 that are used really say nothing 00:32:09.06\00:32:11.39 about a change of the day 00:32:11.43\00:32:12.83 or even a collective worship service on Sunday. 00:32:12.86\00:32:17.47 They just can't be used for that particular purpose. 00:32:17.50\00:32:20.00 Now I want to say something 00:32:20.04\00:32:21.37 about this particular methodology. 00:32:21.40\00:32:25.64 I want it for a caveat 00:32:25.67\00:32:27.64 because there is a danger 00:32:27.68\00:32:32.91 that when a person brings you text 00:32:32.95\00:32:35.78 and you just sort of shoot down those texts, 00:32:35.82\00:32:38.92 there is a danger unless you are humble 00:32:38.95\00:32:41.06 and surrender to the Lord of allowing self to get in, 00:32:41.09\00:32:45.29 you know, someone brings you a text, 00:32:45.33\00:32:47.16 now you shoot that text down, 00:32:47.20\00:32:48.53 and someone brings you a text and you shoot that text down. 00:32:48.56\00:32:52.60 It's not always the best way to try to defend your faith 00:32:52.63\00:32:56.27 because it can allow self to get. 00:32:56.30\00:32:57.91 I remember, years ago, 00:32:57.94\00:32:59.27 I was still a student working at an evangelist crusade 00:32:59.31\00:33:02.04 for a pastor. 00:33:02.08\00:33:03.41 And the two of us discussed for about five hours 00:33:03.45\00:33:07.55 the Sabbath 00:33:07.58\00:33:08.92 and the Ten Commandments with someone. 00:33:08.95\00:33:10.65 And then the person said, "Well, I don't see it." 00:33:10.69\00:33:15.76 So we went for another couple hours. 00:33:15.79\00:33:18.76 Oh, I don't see it. So now self is there. 00:33:18.79\00:33:21.30 What, are you blind? And you don't see it. 00:33:21.33\00:33:23.97 I've gone through the whole thing with you, 00:33:24.00\00:33:26.17 this is seven hours and you don't see it. 00:33:26.20\00:33:28.24 You don't want to see it. 00:33:28.27\00:33:29.60 Well, see that's self, that's not God there. 00:33:29.64\00:33:32.07 So this idea of, you give me a text 00:33:32.11\00:33:33.98 and I shoot you a text down, that can be a little dicey. 00:33:34.01\00:33:37.18 Sometimes you just want 00:33:37.21\00:33:38.55 to let the Holy Spirit do the work. 00:33:38.58\00:33:40.88 But, and move the hearts. 00:33:40.92\00:33:46.19 We should always seek in our dealing 00:33:46.22\00:33:48.86 with the things of God to approach it as a learner. 00:33:48.89\00:33:54.16 As someone who does not have all the answers, 00:33:54.20\00:33:57.23 I am with you seeking for answers. 00:33:57.27\00:34:00.47 And together the Holy Spirit 00:34:00.50\00:34:01.97 will be pleased to give us the answers 00:34:02.00\00:34:05.77 if we approach him with prayer, 00:34:05.81\00:34:08.54 and humility and in submission. 00:34:08.58\00:34:11.08 God wants us to know, and indeed will help us to know 00:34:11.11\00:34:16.15 if indeed it is our desire to know and to do. 00:34:16.18\00:34:20.62 Amen. 00:34:20.66\00:34:21.99 Thank you so much, Pastor Murray. 00:34:22.02\00:34:24.33 What great counsel for any of us 00:34:24.36\00:34:26.43 when facing any scripture to open up our hearts 00:34:26.46\00:34:30.07 to the Holy Spirit and not to allow my own pride, 00:34:30.10\00:34:33.80 my own prejudice, 00:34:33.84\00:34:35.40 my own self to get in the way of what God wants 00:34:35.44\00:34:38.64 to teach me in His Word. 00:34:38.67\00:34:40.51 Those were some great scriptures 00:34:40.54\00:34:42.11 in the New Testament. 00:34:42.14\00:34:43.48 And wonderful explanation 00:34:43.51\00:34:44.98 how it was not talking about worshipping on Sunday, 00:34:45.01\00:34:47.98 that the day was not changed. 00:34:48.02\00:34:49.68 I have Sabbath, Wednesday, which is the seventh day. 00:34:49.72\00:34:53.86 I got Sabbath on the mind, 00:34:53.89\00:34:55.39 the seventh day in the New Testament. 00:34:55.42\00:34:57.79 But what I really want to do is look at the Sabbath 00:34:57.83\00:35:01.80 throughout six periods of history. 00:35:01.83\00:35:04.20 So I want to take us 00:35:04.23\00:35:05.57 all the way back to the very beginning 00:35:05.60\00:35:07.30 when that Sabbath was first instituted. 00:35:07.34\00:35:09.70 We'll look at the Sabbath at creation. 00:35:09.74\00:35:12.17 That verse I think is one of the first verses 00:35:12.21\00:35:14.38 I ever learned about the Sabbath. 00:35:14.41\00:35:16.14 Genesis 2:1-3. 00:35:16.18\00:35:18.41 "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished 00:35:18.45\00:35:20.12 and all the host of them. 00:35:20.15\00:35:22.18 And on the seventh day God ended His work 00:35:22.22\00:35:25.39 which He had made, 00:35:25.42\00:35:26.76 and He rested on the seventh day 00:35:26.79\00:35:28.22 from all His work which He had made. 00:35:28.26\00:35:30.66 And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it 00:35:30.69\00:35:34.56 because that in it He rested from all His work 00:35:34.60\00:35:37.40 which God created and made." 00:35:37.43\00:35:39.93 The Sabbath is a sign of the Creatorship of God. 00:35:39.97\00:35:45.27 He made the heavens and the earth, 00:35:45.31\00:35:47.21 no other god could make the heavens and the earth. 00:35:47.24\00:35:49.91 Therefore He is distinguished from all other gods. 00:35:49.94\00:35:55.48 To attack the Sabbath 00:35:55.52\00:35:56.89 is to attack the authority of God Himself. 00:35:56.92\00:36:00.79 That's good. 00:36:00.82\00:36:02.16 Period number two, 00:36:02.19\00:36:03.53 the first period is the Sabbath at creation. 00:36:03.56\00:36:05.23 Period number two is when we see 00:36:05.26\00:36:06.70 when the law was given on Mount Sinai. 00:36:06.73\00:36:10.03 And the Israelites had just come out of Egypt 00:36:10.07\00:36:12.27 and God knew 00:36:12.30\00:36:13.64 that they had forgotten the Sabbath 00:36:13.67\00:36:16.10 which was established at the very beginning, 00:36:16.14\00:36:17.97 that's why the fourth commandment begins 00:36:18.01\00:36:20.11 with the word remember. 00:36:20.14\00:36:22.14 And Mollie, you quoted that at the beginning. 00:36:22.18\00:36:24.41 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:36:24.45\00:36:27.42 Sixth day, you shall labor, do all your work, 00:36:27.45\00:36:29.75 but the seventh day 00:36:29.78\00:36:31.12 is the Sabbath of the Lord, thy God. 00:36:31.15\00:36:32.49 But in the middle of the fourth commandment, 00:36:32.52\00:36:34.29 it references back to creation and says, 00:36:34.32\00:36:37.73 "For in six days 00:36:37.76\00:36:39.16 the Lord made heaven and earth." 00:36:39.19\00:36:40.93 And it reminded the people that the Sabbath 00:36:40.96\00:36:44.20 is the memorial of creation, 00:36:44.23\00:36:46.60 a sign of the Creatorship of God, 00:36:46.63\00:36:49.00 He made heaven and earth. 00:36:49.04\00:36:51.37 He is distinguished from all other gods. 00:36:51.41\00:36:53.91 Now, the Ten Commandments 00:36:53.94\00:36:55.28 were also given in Deuteronomy 5. 00:36:55.31\00:36:57.55 We usually just look at Exodus 20. 00:36:57.58\00:36:59.75 But they're also in Deuteronomy 5. 00:36:59.78\00:37:02.05 And if you look at Deuteronomy 5, 00:37:02.08\00:37:03.79 we won't quote the whole fourth commandment. 00:37:03.82\00:37:06.25 But Deuteronomy 5:12-15. 00:37:06.29\00:37:09.36 It has a different reason for keeping the Sabbath, 00:37:09.39\00:37:11.96 not creation but redemption. 00:37:11.99\00:37:15.50 It says, "Remember you were a slave in the land of Egypt. 00:37:15.53\00:37:19.70 And the Lord your God brought you out 00:37:19.73\00:37:21.80 from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm. 00:37:21.84\00:37:25.44 Therefore, the Lord your God commanded you 00:37:25.47\00:37:27.41 to keep the Sabbath day, keep the Sabbath day holy. 00:37:27.44\00:37:32.65 The Sabbath is not only a sign of creation, 00:37:32.68\00:37:34.62 it's a sign that we are redeemed, 00:37:34.65\00:37:37.49 that we were brought out of Egypt, 00:37:37.52\00:37:40.12 out of the land of bondage, 00:37:40.16\00:37:41.49 out of sin into this marvelous life. 00:37:41.52\00:37:45.59 Only God could redeem us, only Jesus could redeem us. 00:37:45.63\00:37:49.63 Therefore, He is distinguished from all other gods. 00:37:49.66\00:37:54.30 To attack the Sabbath is to attack 00:37:54.34\00:37:56.47 the authority of God Himself, 00:37:56.50\00:37:58.41 not just as Creator but Him as Redeemer. 00:37:58.44\00:38:01.58 Now let's take it down to the New Testament. 00:38:01.61\00:38:03.88 This is the third period. This is the Sabbath and Jesus. 00:38:03.91\00:38:07.72 This verse, Luke 4:16 shows us that Jesus kept the Sabbath 00:38:07.75\00:38:13.42 when He was here on this earth. 00:38:13.46\00:38:15.99 Now, we know Jesus was baptized in the fall of what? 00:38:16.02\00:38:18.76 AD 27, and this happened in the spring of AD 29, 00:38:18.79\00:38:22.26 we're a year and a half into His ministry. 00:38:22.30\00:38:24.63 And it says, "He came to Nazareth 00:38:24.67\00:38:26.17 where He had been brought up and as His custom was, 00:38:26.20\00:38:29.80 He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day 00:38:29.84\00:38:32.47 and stood up to read." 00:38:32.51\00:38:35.04 Remember Mark 2:27, 28. 00:38:35.08\00:38:37.75 He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man 00:38:37.78\00:38:39.78 and not man for the Sabbath. 00:38:39.81\00:38:41.75 Therefore, the Son of Man 00:38:41.78\00:38:43.28 is Lord also of the Sabbath day." 00:38:43.32\00:38:46.62 Why is He Lord of the Sabbath? 00:38:46.65\00:38:48.12 He's Lord of the Sabbath because He's the creator. 00:38:48.16\00:38:50.29 He's Lord of the Sabbath because He is Redeemer. 00:38:50.33\00:38:53.43 Therefore, He is distinguished from all other gods. 00:38:53.46\00:38:56.56 Jesus taught the commandments. 00:38:56.60\00:38:58.43 Remember when He walked this earth, 00:38:58.47\00:39:00.57 I think of John 14:15, 00:39:00.60\00:39:02.34 "If you love Me, keep My commandments." 00:39:02.37\00:39:05.27 And remember Matthew 5, the Sermon on the Mount. 00:39:05.31\00:39:08.14 He said, "Think not, I'm not come to destroy the law 00:39:08.18\00:39:10.58 and the prophets, I am come to fulfill it." 00:39:10.61\00:39:14.82 And the Sermon on the Mount, 00:39:14.85\00:39:16.22 the Pharisees and the Scribes had said, 00:39:16.25\00:39:18.82 "Jesus is doing away with some of the stuff. 00:39:18.85\00:39:21.06 But in fact He brought 00:39:21.09\00:39:23.02 the law of God to a whole new level. 00:39:23.06\00:39:26.86 He brought it from the letter of the law into the spirit 00:39:26.90\00:39:29.83 of a level, the law. 00:39:29.86\00:39:32.03 Remember that He said... 00:39:32.07\00:39:34.04 The commandments say, 00:39:34.07\00:39:35.60 "If you do not commit adultery." 00:39:35.64\00:39:37.61 But then He said, "But I say to you, 00:39:37.64\00:39:39.71 if you even lust after someone, that's committing adultery." 00:39:39.74\00:39:43.48 The commandment say, "Do not murder someone." 00:39:43.51\00:39:45.48 But I say to you if you even have hatred, 00:39:45.51\00:39:48.25 that's the same thing. 00:39:48.28\00:39:49.62 So Jesus brought the commandments, 00:39:49.65\00:39:50.99 instead of negating the commandments, 00:39:51.02\00:39:52.85 He brought them to an even deeper and higher 00:39:52.89\00:39:56.36 and a holier level. 00:39:56.39\00:39:58.26 Now let's look at the Sabbath after Jesus. 00:39:58.29\00:40:00.26 This is period number four, the early Christian church. 00:40:00.30\00:40:04.10 Now we know the lesson brought this out. 00:40:04.13\00:40:06.03 Remember, Jesus rested on the Sabbath even in death. 00:40:06.07\00:40:08.80 He was crucified on Friday. 00:40:08.84\00:40:10.81 It says the woman prepared the spices, 00:40:10.84\00:40:13.01 that's in Luke 23:54-56. 00:40:13.04\00:40:16.54 And then it says, "They rested on the seventh day." 00:40:16.58\00:40:19.45 While Jesus was resting in the tomb, 00:40:19.48\00:40:21.52 they went Sunday morning but He was already risen. 00:40:21.55\00:40:25.12 Now we go several years later, 00:40:25.15\00:40:27.36 this is Paul's first missionary journey. 00:40:27.39\00:40:29.99 Paul, Barnabas and John, Mark. 00:40:30.03\00:40:31.99 So we're close to maybe 15 years 00:40:32.03\00:40:34.80 after the crucifixion. 00:40:34.83\00:40:36.56 Acts 13:14, it says, 00:40:36.60\00:40:38.87 "They came to Antioch in Pisidia, 00:40:38.90\00:40:41.30 and went into the synagogue 00:40:41.34\00:40:42.67 on the Sabbath day and sat down." 00:40:42.70\00:40:44.14 So they're still keeping the Sabbath 15 years 00:40:44.17\00:40:47.78 after the resurrection of Jesus. 00:40:47.81\00:40:49.84 It says, "Paul preached about Jesus." 00:40:49.88\00:40:51.88 And then in Acts 13:42-44, it says, 00:40:51.91\00:40:55.05 "When the Jews went out of the synagogue, 00:40:55.08\00:40:56.95 the gentiles begged that these words 00:40:56.99\00:40:59.35 might be preached to them the next Sabbath." 00:40:59.39\00:41:01.52 Not just the Jews, 00:41:01.56\00:41:03.02 the gentiles are worshipping on the Sabbath. 00:41:03.06\00:41:06.03 Then it says, "Then almost the entire city gathered 00:41:06.06\00:41:09.43 to hear the Word of God on the next Sabbath." 00:41:09.46\00:41:13.70 The gentiles and the Jews, 00:41:13.74\00:41:15.47 the early Christian church honored 00:41:15.50\00:41:18.31 and worshipped God on the Sabbath as Creator 00:41:18.34\00:41:21.51 and as Redeemer. 00:41:21.54\00:41:22.88 Now we take it a few years down, 00:41:22.91\00:41:24.98 this is maybe 20 years after the crucifixion or so. 00:41:25.01\00:41:27.85 This is Paul and Silas 00:41:27.88\00:41:29.22 on Paul's second missionary journey. 00:41:29.25\00:41:31.72 Act 16:13, "On the Sabbath day 00:41:31.75\00:41:35.32 we went out of the city to the riverside, 00:41:35.36\00:41:38.49 where a prayer was customarily made 00:41:38.53\00:41:41.10 and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there." 00:41:41.13\00:41:45.33 Interestingly they're not even worshipping 00:41:45.37\00:41:47.34 at this point in the synagogue, 00:41:47.37\00:41:48.87 you know, in this particular moment 00:41:48.90\00:41:50.41 they are actually out 00:41:50.44\00:41:51.77 by the riverside still keeping the Sabbath. 00:41:51.81\00:41:54.88 In Act 17:2, it says, 00:41:54.91\00:41:57.98 "Paul, as his custom was went into them 00:41:58.01\00:42:00.82 and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures." 00:42:00.85\00:42:05.19 So we see the Sabbath was instituted at creation. 00:42:05.22\00:42:07.96 We see the Sabbath was reminded and brought 00:42:07.99\00:42:10.66 before the people again at Mount Sinai. 00:42:10.69\00:42:14.26 We see the Sabbath, 00:42:14.30\00:42:15.63 Jesus kept the Sabbath not only in life 00:42:15.66\00:42:17.77 and He taught the Sabbath and the Ten Commandments, 00:42:17.80\00:42:20.17 He kept the Sabbath in death and then He was resurrected. 00:42:20.20\00:42:23.14 We see the early Christian church 00:42:23.17\00:42:24.67 and this is up to 20 years 00:42:24.71\00:42:26.37 after the crucifixion still keeping and honoring 00:42:26.41\00:42:29.94 the Sabbath day, 00:42:29.98\00:42:31.31 no change in the fourth commandment 00:42:31.35\00:42:33.82 because there is no change 00:42:33.85\00:42:35.18 in any of the commandments of God. 00:42:35.22\00:42:36.62 He said, "I am God I change not." 00:42:36.65\00:42:38.45 Period number five 00:42:38.49\00:42:39.82 is the Sabbath at the end of time. 00:42:39.85\00:42:41.89 Revelation 14:12, 00:42:41.92\00:42:43.99 "Here's the patience of the saints, 00:42:44.03\00:42:45.46 here are they that keep the commandments of God 00:42:45.49\00:42:48.50 and have the testimony of Jesus." 00:42:48.53\00:42:50.97 God's end time people will keep all ten of His commandments. 00:42:51.00\00:42:56.74 And finally, the period number six, 00:42:56.77\00:42:59.61 we're gonna see the Sabbath in the new earth. 00:42:59.64\00:43:02.71 Isaiah 66:23. 00:43:02.74\00:43:05.51 "And it shall come to pass from one new moon to another 00:43:05.55\00:43:08.38 and from one Sabbath to another, 00:43:08.42\00:43:10.89 all flesh shall come to worship before Me says, the Lord." 00:43:10.92\00:43:16.22 We began with the Sabbath all the way through history. 00:43:16.26\00:43:19.63 God has had a people 00:43:19.66\00:43:21.13 that have kept, and obeyed, 00:43:21.16\00:43:23.23 and honored His holy day as a memorial of creation, 00:43:23.26\00:43:28.74 as a memorial of redemption and I think also as a memorial. 00:43:28.77\00:43:33.81 A reminder of the recreation 00:43:33.84\00:43:36.68 that He can do in your heart and in mine. 00:43:36.71\00:43:39.51 He can take the stony heart 00:43:39.55\00:43:40.92 and He can change us into a heart of flesh. 00:43:40.95\00:43:43.49 He can take us out of the kingdom of darkness 00:43:43.52\00:43:45.55 and transform us into the kingdom of light. 00:43:45.59\00:43:49.52 So praise the Lord, 00:43:49.56\00:43:50.89 for the Sabbath is a sign as Creator, 00:43:50.93\00:43:53.76 a sign as Redeemer. 00:43:53.80\00:43:55.13 He is distinguished 00:43:55.16\00:43:56.50 from all other gods and anytime, 00:43:56.53\00:43:58.80 we attack the Sabbath, 00:43:58.83\00:44:00.17 we're attacking the authority of God Himself. 00:44:00.20\00:44:02.64 And I just want to make a quick appeal to you. 00:44:02.67\00:44:05.04 Maybe this is brand new, maybe you're watching 00:44:05.07\00:44:07.28 and you are not familiar with the Sabbath, 00:44:07.31\00:44:10.15 do not push it aside. 00:44:10.18\00:44:12.25 As Pastor Murray talked about when things are revealed 00:44:12.28\00:44:15.08 in the Word of God, 00:44:15.12\00:44:16.45 come to the Word of God with an open mind 00:44:16.48\00:44:19.19 and an open heart to see 00:44:19.22\00:44:21.56 what the Holy Spirit has for you in there. 00:44:21.59\00:44:23.99 Amen. Thank you so much. 00:44:24.03\00:44:26.43 Actually, I don't think 00:44:26.46\00:44:29.06 modern day Protestant Christians 00:44:29.10\00:44:32.50 would really keep Sunday 00:44:32.53\00:44:33.97 instead of Saturday without deception. 00:44:34.00\00:44:36.87 That's the reason the devil hates. 00:44:36.91\00:44:39.54 I've come to conclusion 00:44:39.57\00:44:40.91 that he hates Daniel and Revelation, 00:44:40.94\00:44:43.01 he hates the prophecies. 00:44:43.04\00:44:44.38 Most churches skip over to put themself their past, 00:44:44.41\00:44:47.82 they want nothing to do 00:44:47.85\00:44:49.18 but some of the great scriptures 00:44:49.22\00:44:50.92 that you all are reading. 00:44:50.95\00:44:52.65 Here are they that keep the commandments of God. 00:44:52.69\00:44:54.82 They have the faith of Jesus. 00:44:54.86\00:44:56.19 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, 00:44:56.22\00:44:57.93 and the word of their testimony. 00:44:57.96\00:44:59.66 The revealing of who Christ 00:44:59.69\00:45:01.83 and His nature and His character is, 00:45:01.86\00:45:04.83 and when we look through Daniel and Revelation, 00:45:04.87\00:45:06.80 we see literally the history of the world 00:45:06.84\00:45:10.04 from the beginning to the end. 00:45:10.07\00:45:12.27 And it says that we win. 00:45:12.31\00:45:13.94 And so, what I thought about this morning the reason 00:45:13.98\00:45:16.75 that Daniel and Revelation, 00:45:16.78\00:45:18.11 so I just wrote down unlike myself, 00:45:18.15\00:45:19.75 I wrote down some notes 00:45:19.78\00:45:21.12 and put some questions and answers, 00:45:21.15\00:45:22.78 because what I wanted to do, 00:45:22.82\00:45:24.19 I said this is an important topic 00:45:24.22\00:45:26.32 and I can go through that my part here 00:45:26.35\00:45:29.12 is the attempted change of the Sabbath, 00:45:29.16\00:45:31.49 and I can go through the beast 00:45:31.53\00:45:33.36 and I go through the image of Daniel 00:45:33.40\00:45:36.20 and I can do those things, 00:45:36.23\00:45:37.57 but I said, maybe, let's do it in a practical way 00:45:37.60\00:45:39.80 that somebody is watching 00:45:39.83\00:45:41.17 because I meet people that says, 00:45:41.20\00:45:44.71 "What difference that may make what day you keep." 00:45:44.74\00:45:47.74 You ever hear that. You guys ever hear that. 00:45:47.78\00:45:49.51 Well, what's in a day? You know, it's no big deal. 00:45:49.54\00:45:53.65 So what difference does it make? 00:45:53.68\00:45:55.65 But, what I found out is that Satan 00:45:55.68\00:45:58.52 and this morning this came to me. 00:45:58.55\00:46:00.99 Satan hates these books because they are an exposé 00:46:01.02\00:46:03.83 of his devious and dubious plans 00:46:03.86\00:46:06.23 for the destruction of human race. 00:46:06.26\00:46:09.30 It says, no wonder he's got most churches, 00:46:09.33\00:46:13.13 he doesn't want churches to read them. 00:46:13.17\00:46:15.14 According to the dictionary, 00:46:15.17\00:46:17.24 devious mean showing a skillful use 00:46:17.27\00:46:19.61 of underhanded tactics to achieve goals, deceitful, 00:46:19.64\00:46:23.21 dishonest, dishonorable, unethical, unprincipled, 00:46:23.24\00:46:26.92 immoral, unscrupulous, fraudulent, dubious, unfair, 00:46:26.95\00:46:30.82 treacherous etc, can go on. 00:46:30.85\00:46:33.19 Then the dictionary also says dubious, 00:46:33.22\00:46:35.32 because those words came to me and I said, 00:46:35.36\00:46:36.83 I don't say dubious very often, 00:46:36.86\00:46:38.76 I better look up what it means, dubious. 00:46:38.79\00:46:40.93 Satan is devious and he's dubious. 00:46:40.96\00:46:45.10 Dubious says, morally suspect about that one, 00:46:45.13\00:46:49.14 not to be relied upon. 00:46:49.17\00:46:51.47 Okay, of questionable value. 00:46:51.51\00:46:55.04 Well, here's what I want to get into 00:46:55.08\00:46:57.15 why is that people don't read, we all read the same Bible 00:46:57.18\00:47:00.28 so why is it that we read it and come up 00:47:00.32\00:47:02.22 with all these different days of keep, 00:47:02.25\00:47:04.62 different doctrines and why is it? 00:47:04.65\00:47:09.06 It's because of Satan's deception 00:47:09.09\00:47:11.19 to follow men, 00:47:11.23\00:47:12.56 so the only way we can overcome this is to stay close 00:47:12.59\00:47:15.20 to the Word of God 00:47:15.23\00:47:16.56 and see what God says and be willing to do 00:47:16.60\00:47:20.27 what God tells us to do. 00:47:20.30\00:47:21.64 What His word says to do, 00:47:21.67\00:47:23.00 because He does it for own good. 00:47:23.04\00:47:24.37 But speaking of Satan, John 8:44, Jesus says, 00:47:24.41\00:47:28.18 He was talking to the scribes and Pharisees, 00:47:28.21\00:47:30.15 "You are of your father the devil, 00:47:30.18\00:47:32.05 and the lust of your father you will do. 00:47:32.08\00:47:34.25 He was a murderer from the beginning, 00:47:34.28\00:47:35.88 and abode not in truth 00:47:35.92\00:47:37.29 because there is no truth in him. 00:47:37.32\00:47:39.25 When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh on his own: 00:47:39.29\00:47:42.52 for he is a liar and the father of it." 00:47:42.56\00:47:45.36 So when the devil speaks a lie, 00:47:45.39\00:47:47.13 he speaks from his own resources. 00:47:47.16\00:47:49.43 Am I right? Right. 00:47:49.46\00:47:50.80 When the devil speaks a lie, 00:47:50.83\00:47:52.17 he speaks from his own resources, 00:47:52.20\00:47:53.87 that doesn't come from God. 00:47:53.90\00:47:55.64 So that's why he is the accuser of the brethren, 00:47:55.67\00:47:58.44 and get this Revelation 12:10 says that 00:47:58.47\00:48:00.64 "Satan is the accuser of the brethren day and night." 00:48:00.68\00:48:04.18 He deceives the world, 00:48:04.21\00:48:08.65 the whole human race and descend 00:48:08.68\00:48:10.35 through devious and dubious deceptions. 00:48:10.39\00:48:12.79 Then he goes and tells God about it and says, 00:48:12.82\00:48:15.42 accuses us, says, look they are sinners. 00:48:15.46\00:48:17.29 Yep. 00:48:17.33\00:48:18.66 He uses his deception to destroy man 00:48:18.69\00:48:21.43 because he wants us to end up 00:48:21.46\00:48:23.30 in the lake of fire in Judgment Day, 00:48:23.33\00:48:25.77 that where he's gonna be. 00:48:25.80\00:48:27.54 So, he deceives us into doing wrong, 00:48:27.57\00:48:30.11 into committing sin 00:48:30.14\00:48:31.47 and then runs and tattletales to God. 00:48:31.51\00:48:33.41 Well, they need, they've sinned, 00:48:33.44\00:48:35.61 you know, shame on them. 00:48:35.64\00:48:37.01 I'm not the only one, look at the human race, 00:48:37.05\00:48:39.41 no one can be perfect and we can't except 00:48:39.45\00:48:42.35 through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:48:42.38\00:48:45.09 Without deception I put while ago 00:48:45.12\00:48:46.99 the modern day Christians as I said, wouldn't, 00:48:47.02\00:48:49.42 wouldn't really be worshipping Sunday 00:48:49.46\00:48:52.06 as the first day of the week. 00:48:52.09\00:48:53.43 Now we need to find out why? 00:48:53.46\00:48:54.86 And our lesson to stay a little bit close to it 00:48:54.90\00:48:57.17 that Daniel says, Daniel 7:23-25 00:48:57.20\00:49:00.87 and I think we've read some of the verses there, 00:49:00.90\00:49:04.74 but I want to go down towards the end 00:49:04.77\00:49:07.28 and we're talking about 00:49:07.31\00:49:09.14 that the power is about control. 00:49:09.18\00:49:12.65 What it is? 00:49:12.68\00:49:14.02 Satan is out, the fourth beast, the little horn of Daniel, 00:49:14.05\00:49:17.42 what we see and then in Revelation. 00:49:17.45\00:49:19.75 What is this power out to do? What does he want to do? 00:49:19.79\00:49:22.96 What does the enemy want to do? It's about control. 00:49:22.99\00:49:25.36 So this is none other than Satan use an earthly agent 00:49:25.39\00:49:28.73 to do his evil bidding. 00:49:28.76\00:49:30.67 Now here's the question. 00:49:30.70\00:49:32.03 The question would be, 00:49:32.07\00:49:33.40 what is he trying to accomplish? 00:49:33.44\00:49:34.94 The answer, in heaven his pride and lust for adoration 00:49:34.97\00:49:37.94 and praise from the other angels 00:49:37.97\00:49:40.04 ended up with Satan being kicked out of heaven. 00:49:40.08\00:49:42.64 He said, I should be like the Most High God. 00:49:42.68\00:49:45.98 Now, that Satan is prince of this earth, 00:49:46.01\00:49:48.12 his goal is the same thing as it was in heaven, 00:49:48.15\00:49:50.75 because what he wanted was that adoration, 00:49:50.79\00:49:53.76 he wanted that praise. 00:49:53.79\00:49:55.12 He was full of pride, so he says, 00:49:55.16\00:49:57.36 "I want that praise and adoration 00:49:57.39\00:49:59.56 that God deserves, but I want it for me." 00:49:59.59\00:50:02.46 Now how can he accomplish this agenda? 00:50:02.50\00:50:05.17 Answer is, he wants to change God's rule of life, 00:50:05.20\00:50:07.80 the Ten Commandments, 00:50:07.84\00:50:09.17 so that he becomes the God that people worship. 00:50:09.20\00:50:12.07 Now listen to me 00:50:12.11\00:50:13.44 because we're not just talking about, 00:50:13.48\00:50:14.81 oh, what difference does it make 00:50:14.84\00:50:16.18 what day you keep? 00:50:16.21\00:50:17.55 We're talking about God Almighty, 00:50:17.58\00:50:18.98 we're talking about principles of life 00:50:19.01\00:50:21.25 and we're talking about this great controversy 00:50:21.28\00:50:24.05 between good and evil. 00:50:24.09\00:50:25.85 So how does he accomplish it? By deception but get this. 00:50:25.89\00:50:29.52 Satan knows that he can't get the human race 00:50:29.56\00:50:32.03 to worship an evil god. 00:50:32.06\00:50:35.50 So he doesn't show us, if for instance he said, 00:50:35.53\00:50:38.70 look I want you to worship me. 00:50:38.73\00:50:40.60 I want you lifting your hands, singing all the songs, 00:50:40.64\00:50:43.10 praising Lord. 00:50:43.14\00:50:44.64 You know, all the things, shouting and dancing, 00:50:44.67\00:50:46.78 all the things that you do and praising me 00:50:46.81\00:50:49.54 even though I'm out to steal, kill and to destroy. 00:50:49.58\00:50:52.51 And in the very lake of fire at the end of time, 00:50:52.55\00:50:55.02 I want you to be in it 00:50:55.05\00:50:56.38 and you to be burned up with me. 00:50:56.42\00:50:58.29 Now, who would serve him? We wouldn't do that. 00:50:58.32\00:51:00.66 So he says, how can I get to people? 00:51:00.69\00:51:02.79 I don't want, I can't be truthful with them, 00:51:02.82\00:51:04.33 they wouldn't serve me, 00:51:04.36\00:51:05.69 but I want to be the God of the universe 00:51:05.73\00:51:07.60 and that they worship, so how am I going to do it? 00:51:07.63\00:51:10.63 By deception. 00:51:10.67\00:51:12.00 So what he does, he decides to appear as God, 00:51:12.03\00:51:15.40 wanting to do good for his children. 00:51:15.44\00:51:17.67 He allows them to continue their worship of God, 00:51:17.71\00:51:20.68 but he becomes the god they worship. 00:51:20.71\00:51:23.08 Now think about that. 00:51:23.11\00:51:24.51 So how he replaces the fourth commandment, why? 00:51:24.55\00:51:27.68 Because the fourth commandment 00:51:27.72\00:51:29.05 as some of you have already covered 00:51:29.08\00:51:31.15 is the only commandment 00:51:31.19\00:51:32.52 that has the seal of the Living God. 00:51:32.55\00:51:35.26 We read it, 00:51:35.29\00:51:36.62 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy." 00:51:36.66\00:51:38.13 Jill and all of you went through 00:51:38.16\00:51:40.13 that it says God's seal. 00:51:40.16\00:51:42.06 Who He is? The Lord, thy God. What did He do? 00:51:42.10\00:51:44.40 He made, He's a Creator and what's His dominion, 00:51:44.43\00:51:47.64 heaven and earth and everywhere, all right. 00:51:47.67\00:51:50.51 Worlds we don't even know exists, 00:51:50.54\00:51:52.04 we kind of limit Him to right here. 00:51:52.07\00:51:54.58 So I put right here, I saw a great, 00:51:54.61\00:51:57.38 great quote from Patriarchs and Prophets, it says, 00:51:57.41\00:52:00.15 "A seal contains the name, 00:52:00.18\00:52:02.25 title and authority of the lawgiver. 00:52:02.28\00:52:04.32 The Sabbath commandment 00:52:04.35\00:52:05.69 can therefore be considered a seal, 00:52:05.72\00:52:07.66 because it is the only one of all the ten 00:52:07.69\00:52:09.96 which are found in both the name 00:52:09.99\00:52:11.43 and the title of the lawgiver. 00:52:11.46\00:52:13.76 It is the only one that shows by whose authority 00:52:13.80\00:52:16.83 the law is given, 00:52:16.87\00:52:18.20 thus it contains the seal of God affixed 00:52:18.23\00:52:20.60 to His law as evidence 00:52:20.64\00:52:22.50 of its authenticity and binding forces," 00:52:22.54\00:52:25.27 that the Patriarchs and Prophets, 307. 00:52:25.31\00:52:28.51 Here's another, Signs of the Time, 00:52:28.54\00:52:30.15 "The Sabbath was placed in the Decalogue as the seal 00:52:30.18\00:52:33.08 of the living God, pointing out the lawgiver, 00:52:33.11\00:52:36.18 and making it known his right to rule." 00:52:36.22\00:52:39.15 Thus the Sabbath is the sign of a relationship 00:52:39.19\00:52:42.29 between God and His people, 00:52:42.32\00:52:44.03 serving as " a test of their loyalty to Him.'" 00:52:44.06\00:52:48.03 Then Testimonies to the Church, 00:52:48.06\00:52:50.00 "The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist, 00:52:50.03\00:52:52.70 a church can be described in presenting the law of God 00:52:52.73\00:52:55.84 as a test of character 00:52:55.87\00:52:57.31 and as the seal of the Living God." 00:52:57.34\00:53:00.28 One last quote here, this is J. N. Andrews, 00:53:00.31\00:53:02.48 "The importance of the Sabbath as the memorial of creation 00:53:02.51\00:53:05.95 is that it keeps ever present the true reason 00:53:05.98\00:53:08.85 why worship is due to God because He is the Creator, 00:53:08.88\00:53:12.55 we are His creatures. 00:53:12.59\00:53:13.92 The Sabbath therefore lies 00:53:13.96\00:53:15.39 at the very foundation of divine worship, 00:53:15.42\00:53:18.13 for it teaches this great truth 00:53:18.16\00:53:20.36 in the most impressive manner, as no other institution does. 00:53:20.40\00:53:25.00 The true ground of divine worship, 00:53:25.03\00:53:27.20 not only on the seventh day merely, 00:53:27.24\00:53:29.67 but of all worship, 00:53:29.70\00:53:31.04 is found in the distinction between the Creator 00:53:31.07\00:53:34.24 and His creatures. 00:53:34.28\00:53:35.61 This great fact can never become obsolete, 00:53:35.64\00:53:38.51 and must never be forgotten." 00:53:38.55\00:53:40.85 So some... 00:53:40.88\00:53:42.22 Just absolutely powerful statements. 00:53:42.25\00:53:44.95 One time, probably 25 years ago, Shelley, 00:53:44.99\00:53:47.76 for no reason I just woke up, 00:53:47.79\00:53:49.49 this thought came to my mind and I wrote it down, 00:53:49.52\00:53:52.39 "The antichrist is nothing 00:53:52.43\00:53:54.00 more than the spirit of the devil garbed 00:53:54.03\00:53:56.23 in the cloth of Christianity." 00:53:56.26\00:54:00.24 And so, what we're looking at today is in my closing here 00:54:00.27\00:54:04.67 the time is out. 00:54:04.71\00:54:06.31 But what we're looking at in the change of the Sabbath 00:54:06.34\00:54:09.58 is about whom... 00:54:09.61\00:54:11.25 For Satan, it's the worship that he wants, 00:54:11.28\00:54:14.48 so the Catholic Church, the papacy, 00:54:14.52\00:54:17.42 it's a matter of history in 321 AD began, 00:54:17.45\00:54:21.09 but changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday, 00:54:21.12\00:54:23.56 the seventh day of the week to the first day of the week. 00:54:23.59\00:54:26.16 Now we're not saying things about them, 00:54:26.19\00:54:27.60 they don't say about themselves, 00:54:27.63\00:54:28.96 Shelley and I have written a book. 00:54:29.00\00:54:30.33 If you write in, we'll give it to you free, 00:54:30.37\00:54:32.10 the Ten Commandments Twice Removed. 00:54:32.13\00:54:33.84 It will go into a lot of this 00:54:33.87\00:54:35.47 that we're not able to discuss here today. 00:54:35.50\00:54:37.97 But the question for you and me today is simply this. 00:54:38.01\00:54:41.74 Who are we gonna serve? 00:54:41.78\00:54:43.11 We gonna serve God or we're going to serve man. 00:54:43.14\00:54:46.01 Revelation says, "Jesus is coming back for those 00:54:46.05\00:54:49.12 who are willing to give their lives unto death 00:54:49.15\00:54:52.52 if necessary for the cause of God. 00:54:52.55\00:54:55.29 So the Sabbath is God's holy day, 00:54:55.32\00:54:58.69 it's not the Sabbath of the Adventist, 00:54:58.73\00:55:00.43 the Sabbath of the Jews. 00:55:00.46\00:55:01.96 He said, "It's my holy day and He blessed it, 00:55:02.00\00:55:04.60 He sanctified it, made it a holy day." 00:55:04.63\00:55:07.04 So let's enjoy that time with God, say, 00:55:07.07\00:55:09.70 "Lord teach me truth." 00:55:09.74\00:55:11.11 When we ask, God will show us truth. 00:55:11.14\00:55:13.24 Amen. Very good. 00:55:13.27\00:55:14.61 Excellent, Danny. Amen. Amen. 00:55:14.64\00:55:15.98 Now, the title of our lesson today 00:55:16.01\00:55:18.65 was the change of the law. 00:55:18.68\00:55:20.42 Let me ask you this. Has the law being changed? 00:55:20.45\00:55:23.08 No. No. 00:55:23.12\00:55:24.52 Who established the law? God. 00:55:24.55\00:55:26.86 Can fallible human beings change anything 00:55:26.89\00:55:30.13 that God has established? 00:55:30.16\00:55:31.49 No. No. 00:55:31.53\00:55:32.86 Shelley, you laid a beautiful foundation 00:55:32.89\00:55:35.53 of the strength of the law and the beauty of the law. 00:55:35.56\00:55:38.90 CA, you and Jill, 00:55:38.93\00:55:40.27 both showed us the beauty of the law 00:55:40.30\00:55:42.54 and, Danny, you addressed 00:55:42.57\00:55:44.57 who is actually behind the changing, 00:55:44.61\00:55:48.61 the attempted change of the law 00:55:48.64\00:55:50.95 and why he attempted to change it. 00:55:50.98\00:55:53.21 What I would like each of you to do, 00:55:53.25\00:55:54.78 I think we've got the time 00:55:54.82\00:55:56.38 is just give us a closing thought. 00:55:56.42\00:55:58.62 And, Shelley, we'll start with you. 00:55:58.65\00:56:00.49 My thought is this, 00:56:00.52\00:56:02.09 there's only eight references in the New Testament 00:56:02.12\00:56:05.59 to the first day of the week which is Sunday, 00:56:05.63\00:56:08.26 of those a five refer to the very same event 00:56:08.30\00:56:12.53 the woman at the tomb, the other three you covered, 00:56:12.57\00:56:18.11 and we see that none of those... 00:56:18.14\00:56:20.64 There is not a single scripture in the Bible 00:56:20.68\00:56:24.91 that changes God's worship day, 00:56:24.95\00:56:29.98 the Sabbath day to Sunday. 00:56:30.02\00:56:31.72 Very good, CA. 00:56:31.75\00:56:33.09 Archbishop Cass Bardia 00:56:33.12\00:56:34.56 came up with an idea in the 1500's, he said, 00:56:34.59\00:56:38.06 "You can't be Sola scriptura 00:56:38.09\00:56:40.06 if you worship on a day that's not in the Scripture. 00:56:40.10\00:56:42.86 Amen. Yeah. 00:56:42.90\00:56:44.23 Amen. Absolutely. 00:56:44.27\00:56:45.60 Sister Jill. 00:56:45.63\00:56:46.97 I would say the Sabbath is a gift, embrace it, 00:56:47.00\00:56:48.67 accept it and experience 00:56:48.70\00:56:50.31 what God wants to do in your life. 00:56:50.34\00:56:52.14 And I would stay, say study the three angels' messages, 00:56:52.17\00:56:55.24 because in it inherit eternal life. 00:56:55.28\00:56:57.51 Amen. Amen. 00:56:57.55\00:56:59.18 Thank you all, and thank you for joining with us 00:56:59.21\00:57:03.72 for this Sabbath school lesson. 00:57:03.75\00:57:05.69 We appreciate you being with us, and again, 00:57:05.72\00:57:07.82 we want to encourage you to get the quarterly, 00:57:07.86\00:57:10.59 so as you study along with it, you will feel like 00:57:10.63\00:57:13.26 you're more part of this lesson, 00:57:13.29\00:57:15.96 and we encourage you 00:57:16.00\00:57:18.43 to study to show yourself approved 00:57:18.47\00:57:20.64 unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed 00:57:20.67\00:57:23.74 but rightly dividing the word of truth. 00:57:23.77\00:57:27.14
