The Bible tells us, 00:00:01.36\00:00:02.70 "In the beginning was the Word, 00:00:02.73\00:00:04.07 and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 00:00:04.10\00:00:07.67 It says to, "Receive with meekness 00:00:07.70\00:00:10.04 the implanted Word, 00:00:10.07\00:00:11.47 which is able to save your souls 00:00:11.51\00:00:13.84 and to be diligent to present yourself 00:00:13.88\00:00:16.08 approved to God, 00:00:16.11\00:00:17.78 rightly dividing the Word of truth." 00:00:17.81\00:00:20.75 Join us now for the 3ABN Sabbath School Panel. 00:00:20.78\00:00:25.15 Our study today is Preparation 00:00:25.19\00:00:28.06 for the End Time. 00:00:28.09\00:00:31.56 Hello, I'm Shelley Quinn, and we welcome you 00:00:31.59\00:00:33.76 to 3ABN Sabbath School Panel. 00:00:33.80\00:00:36.46 It is so exciting for each of us 00:00:36.50\00:00:39.23 on this panel to have the time to take 00:00:39.27\00:00:41.90 just a single day and kind of, 00:00:41.94\00:00:43.91 you know, if you just read 00:00:43.94\00:00:46.07 this through your Sabbath school lesson 00:00:46.11\00:00:48.18 for the week, you kind of get your toes wet, 00:00:48.21\00:00:51.21 but we kind of try to study and go all the way, 00:00:51.25\00:00:54.25 we're at waist-deep, and then we try to back it out, 00:00:54.28\00:00:56.75 don't we, CA. 00:00:56.79\00:00:58.12 Try to back it out 00:00:58.15\00:00:59.49 so that we're at least knee deep 00:00:59.52\00:01:00.86 when we each give our study for the day. 00:01:00.89\00:01:04.26 And we're learning from one another, 00:01:04.29\00:01:05.73 and we hope 00:01:05.76\00:01:07.10 that you are enjoying this as well. 00:01:07.13\00:01:10.30 We are talking today about Christ 00:01:10.33\00:01:13.67 in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:01:13.70\00:01:15.27 This is coming from our second quarterly, 00:01:15.30\00:01:18.91 which is Preparation for the End Time. 00:01:18.94\00:01:22.28 If you don't have a quarterly, 00:01:22.31\00:01:24.71 you can go 00:01:24.75\00:01:26.08 to ABSG.Adventist.org 00:01:26.11\00:01:31.92 and download a quarterly or better yet, 00:01:31.95\00:01:36.09 go to your local Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:01:36.12\00:01:38.63 They'll be happy 00:01:38.66\00:01:40.00 not only to give you a quarterly 00:01:40.03\00:01:41.46 but to invite you to study with them. 00:01:41.50\00:01:45.30 I mean, this is wonderful. 00:01:45.33\00:01:47.47 I am excited about this lesson, 00:01:47.50\00:01:50.71 Christ in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:01:50.74\00:01:52.57 But before we begin, I want to introduce our panel, 00:01:52.61\00:01:56.64 next to me, my dear, 00:01:56.68\00:01:58.01 precious friend Mollie Sue Steenson. 00:01:58.05\00:02:00.32 And, Mollie, we're very thankful 00:02:00.35\00:02:01.75 to have you here. 00:02:01.78\00:02:04.69 You used to be the general manager, 00:02:04.72\00:02:06.05 almost said it again, 00:02:06.09\00:02:07.42 but you're still a vice-president of 3ABN, 00:02:07.46\00:02:09.32 and then we have Greg Morikone, 00:02:09.36\00:02:10.96 who is vice president and production manager. 00:02:10.99\00:02:14.33 Good to be here. 00:02:14.36\00:02:15.70 Wonderful to have you, Greg, and next to him, 00:02:15.73\00:02:17.37 his lovely wife, Jill Morikone, who is our new general manager, 00:02:17.40\00:02:22.07 very thankful. 00:02:22.10\00:02:23.44 And then we have 00:02:23.47\00:02:24.81 the illustrious and articulate CA Murray with us, 00:02:24.84\00:02:29.04 Pastor CA Murray, 00:02:29.08\00:02:31.05 who is the general manager of the Proclaim channel. 00:02:31.08\00:02:35.72 I'm going to ask Greg, yeah, 00:02:35.75\00:02:37.85 we don't get to have you on here very often, 00:02:37.89\00:02:39.92 but would you please open with prayer. 00:02:39.95\00:02:41.29 Sure, yeah, let's pray. 00:02:41.32\00:02:42.69 Father in heaven, Lord, 00:02:42.72\00:02:44.06 we again thank You for the opportunity 00:02:44.09\00:02:46.23 of opening Your Word. 00:02:46.26\00:02:47.73 And, Lord, as we study the Sabbath school lesson 00:02:47.76\00:02:50.40 for this week, we just pray for Your Holy Spirit 00:02:50.43\00:02:52.93 to impress upon our minds the things 00:02:52.97\00:02:55.90 that we need to take to heart. 00:02:55.94\00:02:57.51 And, Lord, we thank You that You never leave us 00:02:57.54\00:03:01.38 nor forsake us, and, Lord, 00:03:01.41\00:03:03.14 that Your Word is powerful and quick, 00:03:03.18\00:03:05.81 and, Lord, that it'll do something in our lives 00:03:05.85\00:03:07.88 if we allow the Holy Spirit to dwell there. 00:03:07.92\00:03:10.02 So, Lord, we just thank You again 00:03:10.05\00:03:11.39 for the opportunity we have here as this panel 00:03:11.42\00:03:13.79 but those at home 00:03:13.82\00:03:15.16 have opened your holy scriptures, 00:03:15.19\00:03:16.52 and in Jesus' name, we pray. 00:03:16.56\00:03:18.09 Amen. Amen. 00:03:18.13\00:03:19.46 Amen and amen. Thank you, Greg. 00:03:19.49\00:03:20.90 But we hope that you at home have your Bible with you 00:03:20.93\00:03:24.10 and something to take notes on. 00:03:24.13\00:03:27.84 What we're going to be talking about is, 00:03:27.87\00:03:30.11 I said, this is lesson five, 00:03:30.14\00:03:32.27 Christ in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:03:32.31\00:03:35.51 And we're going to explore 00:03:35.54\00:03:37.38 what is Christ doing in the heavenly sanctuary? 00:03:37.41\00:03:40.42 Why is it so important that we understand 00:03:40.45\00:03:44.05 what He's doing in these last days 00:03:44.09\00:03:46.65 because after Christ completed His work here on earth, 00:03:46.69\00:03:52.79 as our sacrifice He went to the heavenly sanctuary 00:03:52.83\00:03:57.53 to minister as our high priest. 00:03:57.57\00:04:00.94 I want to read two scriptures that are on Sabbath's lesson, 00:04:00.97\00:04:04.47 Hebrews 10:12, it says, "This man," 00:04:04.51\00:04:07.38 speaking of Christ, Jesus, 00:04:07.41\00:04:09.24 "after he'd offered 00:04:09.28\00:04:11.28 one sacrifice for sins forever." 00:04:11.31\00:04:14.05 Once for all, no more sacrifices. 00:04:14.08\00:04:16.18 That's right. 00:04:16.22\00:04:17.55 "He sat down at the right hand of God." 00:04:17.59\00:04:19.55 In Hebrews 6:20, it says, 00:04:19.59\00:04:21.89 "Where the forerunner has entered for us 00:04:21.92\00:04:25.23 even Jesus having become 00:04:25.26\00:04:29.63 our high priest forever 00:04:29.66\00:04:31.30 according to the order of Melchizedek." 00:04:31.33\00:04:34.07 So His intercessory work in the heavenly sanctuary 00:04:34.10\00:04:39.44 is crucial for us in preparation 00:04:39.47\00:04:43.04 for the end time. 00:04:43.08\00:04:44.55 Let's read our memory text together. 00:04:44.58\00:04:47.88 This is Philippians 2:9-10, 00:04:47.92\00:04:51.39 coming from the NIV version, 00:04:51.42\00:04:55.02 and it reads, 00:04:55.06\00:04:57.39 "God exalted Him to the highest place 00:04:57.43\00:05:00.76 and gave Him the name that is above every name, 00:05:00.80\00:05:04.90 that at the name of Jesus 00:05:04.93\00:05:07.34 every knee should bow in heaven and on earth 00:05:07.37\00:05:11.67 and under the earth." 00:05:11.71\00:05:13.58 I want to read something from the Great Controversy. 00:05:13.61\00:05:16.58 A wonderful book, if you haven't read that book, 00:05:16.61\00:05:19.81 I highly encourage you to get a copy 00:05:19.85\00:05:21.62 of the Great Controversy by E.G. White. 00:05:21.65\00:05:24.62 I know so many people 00:05:24.65\00:05:26.15 who have become Christians and Adventist Christians 00:05:26.19\00:05:31.56 because of reading that book. 00:05:31.59\00:05:32.93 But I'm gonna read 00:05:32.96\00:05:34.30 from page 488, and it says this, 00:05:34.33\00:05:39.00 "The subject of the sanctuary in the investigative judgment 00:05:39.03\00:05:42.60 should be clearly understood by the people of God. 00:05:42.64\00:05:45.14 All need a knowledge for themselves of the position 00:05:45.17\00:05:48.61 and work of their great High Priest. 00:05:48.64\00:05:50.31 Otherwise it will be impossible for them to exercise the faith 00:05:50.35\00:05:54.38 which is essential at this time or to occupy the position 00:05:54.42\00:05:58.92 which God designs them to fill." 00:05:58.95\00:06:01.72 So Sunday's lesson, 00:06:01.76\00:06:03.09 we are studying the supreme sacrifice of Jesus, 00:06:03.12\00:06:07.40 and the lesson asks the question, 00:06:07.43\00:06:09.33 "Why did God send His Son into the world?" 00:06:09.36\00:06:11.67 Well, I started thinking about that, 00:06:11.70\00:06:13.17 and I'm going to give you a number of things 00:06:13.20\00:06:14.80 that I thought of that... 00:06:14.84\00:06:16.81 I won't give you all the scripture references, 00:06:16.84\00:06:19.24 but we know that God sent His son 00:06:19.27\00:06:21.64 into the world 00:06:21.68\00:06:23.24 while we were still sinners as a demonstration of His love. 00:06:23.28\00:06:26.92 Jesus came into the world to be a light in darkness, 00:06:26.95\00:06:31.35 to give us the truth, 00:06:31.39\00:06:33.76 to reveal the true nature of God, 00:06:33.79\00:06:36.39 to be a light to the world, preach the kingdom of God, 00:06:36.42\00:06:41.00 the good news of salvation by grace, 00:06:41.03\00:06:44.07 to call sinners to repentance, and to destroy evil, 00:06:44.10\00:06:48.40 the Bible says. He came to seek and save 00:06:48.44\00:06:51.27 the lost sinners by giving His life as a ransom, 00:06:51.31\00:06:55.24 and He came to give us abundant life right now 00:06:55.28\00:06:59.25 and the promise of eternal life forever. 00:06:59.28\00:07:02.52 So let's look at Romans 8:3, 00:07:02.55\00:07:05.45 we're talking again about Christ 00:07:05.49\00:07:07.46 as our supreme sacrifice. 00:07:07.49\00:07:10.36 In Romans 8:3, this is what Paul writes, 00:07:10.39\00:07:13.86 "For what the law could not do in that 00:07:13.90\00:07:16.50 it was weak through the flesh, 00:07:16.53\00:07:18.57 God did by sending His own Son 00:07:18.60\00:07:22.47 in the likeness of sinful flesh on account of sin. 00:07:22.50\00:07:27.91 He condemned sin in the flesh." 00:07:27.94\00:07:31.91 The law was holy, the law was good, Paul said. 00:07:31.95\00:07:35.92 It revealed our transgressions, 00:07:35.95\00:07:38.62 it revealed the righteousness of God, 00:07:38.65\00:07:41.62 but our flesh is weak, and there is absolutely no way 00:07:41.66\00:07:45.63 that you or I could render perfect obedience 00:07:45.66\00:07:48.73 to the law of God. 00:07:48.76\00:07:50.30 The law did not have the power to justify... 00:07:50.33\00:07:53.34 In fact, the law called for animal sacrifices 00:07:53.37\00:07:56.71 and when you think about this, you know, it showed us 00:07:56.74\00:08:00.28 that it was going to take a substitutionary sacrifice 00:08:00.31\00:08:03.85 to pay for our sins, 00:08:03.88\00:08:05.85 but the Bible says in Hebrews 10:4, 00:08:05.88\00:08:08.25 "That the animal blood could not remove sin." 00:08:08.28\00:08:12.82 The sacrifice merely pointed to Jesus Christ 00:08:12.85\00:08:16.69 who paid the penalty for all of our sins. 00:08:16.73\00:08:19.36 So God so loved the world, He sent His Son 00:08:19.39\00:08:22.13 in the likeness of sinful flesh. 00:08:22.16\00:08:26.77 When you think about it, His divinity was veiled 00:08:26.80\00:08:30.54 by His humanity at the incarnation. 00:08:30.57\00:08:34.31 He came to be a sin offering, 00:08:34.34\00:08:36.95 but He Himself was sinless. 00:08:36.98\00:08:40.25 He walked in perfect obedience 00:08:40.28\00:08:44.15 so that He could offer Himself as a sacrifice, 00:08:44.19\00:08:46.96 so let's look at 2 Corinthians 5:21. 00:08:46.99\00:08:52.29 2 Corinthians 5:21, "For He made Him 00:08:52.33\00:08:55.03 who knew no sin to be sin for us..." 00:08:55.06\00:09:00.37 because our sins were placed upon Christ, the sinless one. 00:09:00.40\00:09:04.87 And then it says why He did this, 00:09:04.91\00:09:08.94 "That we might become 00:09:08.98\00:09:10.51 the righteousness of God in Him." 00:09:10.55\00:09:15.05 There's an exchange here, this reconciliation 00:09:15.08\00:09:18.85 that Christ took our sins upon Him, 00:09:18.89\00:09:22.59 and then He credited 00:09:22.62\00:09:23.99 or imputed His righteousness to us. 00:09:24.03\00:09:26.90 Hallelujah! 00:09:26.93\00:09:28.26 And let's look at the Old Testament, 00:09:28.30\00:09:29.63 Isaiah 53:10. Isaiah 53:10. 00:09:29.66\00:09:34.74 This is such an amazing scripture, 00:09:34.77\00:09:37.87 Isaiah 53:10, 00:09:37.91\00:09:41.24 "Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him..." 00:09:41.28\00:09:44.85 This is speaking 00:09:44.88\00:09:47.05 of the suffering servant of God, the Messiah. 00:09:47.08\00:09:52.45 "It pleased the Lord to bruise Him. 00:09:52.49\00:09:55.52 He has put Him to grief. 00:09:55.56\00:09:57.66 When You," 00:09:57.69\00:09:59.89 talking about God, "make His soul," 00:09:59.93\00:10:03.37 talking about Christ, "an offering for sin, 00:10:03.40\00:10:06.90 He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, 00:10:06.94\00:10:10.87 And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand." 00:10:10.91\00:10:15.91 You know, the oath when we think about it, 00:10:15.94\00:10:21.92 the law demanded Christ's death, didn't it? 00:10:21.95\00:10:27.56 The law demanded His death. 00:10:27.59\00:10:29.96 And throughout His humiliation, both in... 00:10:29.99\00:10:32.89 And I'm talking about His humiliation 00:10:32.93\00:10:34.63 not just on the cross, 00:10:34.66\00:10:36.00 but His humiliation in giving up His glory 00:10:36.03\00:10:39.10 and just coming and taking on our flesh, 00:10:39.13\00:10:41.70 throughout His humiliation in life and in death, 00:10:41.74\00:10:46.44 Christ remained faithful, and He became our sin offering, 00:10:46.47\00:10:51.38 a perfect final substitutionary sacrifice, 00:10:51.41\00:10:55.65 and it was the final sacrifice, 00:10:55.68\00:10:57.65 bringing all other sacrifices to the end. 00:10:57.69\00:11:00.96 He condemned sin in the flesh, 00:11:00.99\00:11:03.36 He broke the power of sin at the cross. 00:11:03.39\00:11:07.53 So let's look at 1 Timothy 1:17, 00:11:07.56\00:11:11.13 why did God... 00:11:11.17\00:11:15.60 Why did Christ have to become 00:11:15.64\00:11:19.57 a human being? 00:11:19.61\00:11:21.48 Why couldn't He have just shown up and said, 00:11:21.51\00:11:24.21 "Here I am, tada"? 00:11:24.25\00:11:25.78 Listen... 00:11:25.81\00:11:27.15 'Cause, well, first of all, 00:11:27.18\00:11:28.52 we had to have a substitute that died for us. 00:11:28.55\00:11:30.29 1 Timothy 1:17 says this, 00:11:30.32\00:11:33.36 "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, 00:11:33.39\00:11:39.26 to God who alone is wise, 00:11:39.29\00:11:41.36 be honor and glory forever and ever." 00:11:41.40\00:11:44.63 So we see that God is eternal, immortal, and invisible, 00:11:44.67\00:11:48.74 but now let's turn over to 1 Timothy 6:16, 00:11:48.77\00:11:53.74 this explains 00:11:53.78\00:11:55.11 why Christ had to be incarnated. 00:11:55.14\00:11:58.91 He came to walk in our own shoes, 00:11:58.95\00:12:02.18 yes, to be an example to us, 00:12:02.22\00:12:04.32 yes, to experience everything that we'd been through 00:12:04.35\00:12:07.72 so that He could be a faithful high priest, 00:12:07.76\00:12:10.33 but 1 Timothy 6:16, speaking of God says, 00:12:10.36\00:12:14.90 "who alone has immortality," 00:12:14.93\00:12:19.07 only God is immortal at this time, 00:12:19.10\00:12:22.74 "dwelling in unapproachable light, 00:12:22.77\00:12:26.88 whom no man has seen or can see, 00:12:26.91\00:12:30.95 to him be honor and everlasting power." 00:12:30.98\00:12:35.05 Now before I make my points, 00:12:35.08\00:12:36.55 I want to read one more scripture, 00:12:36.58\00:12:37.92 1 Corinthians 15:51-53, 00:12:37.95\00:12:41.59 it says, "Behold, I tell you a mystery, 00:12:41.62\00:12:43.32 we shall not all sleep, 00:12:43.36\00:12:44.69 but we shall all be changed in a moment, 00:12:44.73\00:12:46.86 in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. 00:12:46.90\00:12:49.50 For the trumpet will sound, 00:12:49.53\00:12:51.33 and the dead will be raised incorruptible, 00:12:51.37\00:12:54.10 and we shall be changed..." 00:12:54.14\00:12:56.84 When? 00:12:56.87\00:12:58.21 At the trumpet, the last trumpet, 00:12:58.24\00:13:00.51 so this is when Christ returns. 00:13:00.54\00:13:03.04 "For this corruptible must put on incorruption, 00:13:03.08\00:13:05.91 and this mortal must put on immortality." 00:13:05.95\00:13:11.09 See, only God can grant immortality to us, 00:13:11.12\00:13:16.79 but as God, 00:13:16.83\00:13:19.36 if Christ had not taken on the flesh, 00:13:19.39\00:13:21.66 He couldn't have died. 00:13:21.70\00:13:23.67 He couldn't have died for us, so He had to come as a mortal, 00:13:23.70\00:13:29.60 become a mortal being, taking on our flesh, 00:13:29.64\00:13:33.64 taking on our immortality, 00:13:33.68\00:13:35.91 so that he could die as our substitute. 00:13:35.94\00:13:38.61 And our quarterly says this, 00:13:38.65\00:13:40.42 "Though divine in though in nature God, 00:13:40.45\00:13:43.39 Jesus took on human likeness, humbled Himself 00:13:43.42\00:13:46.89 by becoming obedient to death on the cross 00:13:46.92\00:13:50.46 and in a way known only to God." 00:13:50.49\00:13:52.99 It says, "The divinity of Christ 00:13:53.03\00:13:54.43 did not die when Jesus died on the cross, 00:13:54.46\00:13:57.13 but in some way, beyond human comprehension, 00:13:57.17\00:14:00.04 the divinity of Jesus was quiescent 00:14:00.07\00:14:03.24 during the nine months in the womb 00:14:03.27\00:14:05.27 and in the days of the tomb 00:14:05.31\00:14:07.18 and Jesus never used it to aid His humanity 00:14:07.21\00:14:10.18 during His life in ministry here." 00:14:10.21\00:14:12.38 The point is this, Jesus was born to die. 00:14:12.41\00:14:17.19 He was born to die for me, He was born to die for you, 00:14:17.22\00:14:21.29 and if you will accept His supreme sacrifice, 00:14:21.32\00:14:25.53 you will be saved. 00:14:25.56\00:14:27.40 Amen. Wow. 00:14:27.43\00:14:28.76 Beautiful, Shelley. Praise the Lord. 00:14:28.80\00:14:30.13 Thank you so much, you know, 00:14:30.17\00:14:31.50 in looking at Christ in the heavenly sanctuary, 00:14:31.53\00:14:37.44 and today, I've got Monday, and I look at the Lamb of God, 00:14:37.47\00:14:40.84 and you're talking about the supreme sacrifice. 00:14:40.88\00:14:44.05 Now, when you look at... 00:14:44.08\00:14:46.82 When you hear the Lamb of God, 00:14:46.85\00:14:50.65 that is sanctuary talk, is it not? 00:14:50.69\00:14:52.29 Oh, yes, He sure is. Yes, it is. 00:14:52.32\00:14:55.56 And I'm looking at... 00:14:55.59\00:14:57.23 We're looking at the heavenly sanctuary, 00:14:57.26\00:15:00.13 now was there a earthly sanctuary? 00:15:00.16\00:15:02.03 Yes. 00:15:02.06\00:15:03.40 What happened every year down at Shiloh, 00:15:03.43\00:15:07.40 that was the sanctuary on the earth at Shiloh, 00:15:07.44\00:15:12.24 every year at the same time, they took a lamb. 00:15:12.27\00:15:17.65 What was applied to that lamb? 00:15:17.68\00:15:20.12 Well, that lamb took on figuratively 00:15:20.15\00:15:25.62 all the sins of the nation, did it not? 00:15:25.65\00:15:28.72 Yes. And they took that lamb. 00:15:28.76\00:15:32.46 It was a spotless lamb, 00:15:32.49\00:15:34.00 a lamb without spot or wrinkle or any such thing. 00:15:34.03\00:15:37.17 Shelley, just as you described our divine, 00:15:37.20\00:15:40.80 our supreme sacrifice. 00:15:40.84\00:15:42.80 They put that lamb on the altar, 00:15:42.84\00:15:45.67 and they took a dagger and they plunged that dagger 00:15:45.71\00:15:49.14 through his heart. 00:15:49.18\00:15:50.81 Now that was in the natural... 00:15:50.85\00:15:53.21 That was in the natural sanctuary, 00:15:53.25\00:15:55.95 here on this earth, down at Shiloh, 00:15:55.98\00:15:59.25 and all again, what was the purpose of that lamb? 00:15:59.29\00:16:03.43 All of the sins of the nation were applied to that lamb 00:16:03.46\00:16:06.90 once a year, 00:16:06.93\00:16:08.26 but what had to happen the next year? 00:16:08.30\00:16:11.13 Had to do the same thing over again. 00:16:11.17\00:16:14.47 Well, and on Monday, we look at the Lamb of God. 00:16:14.50\00:16:20.11 Now remember, and it's John 1:29, 00:16:20.14\00:16:25.85 John the Baptist addresses Jesus 00:16:25.88\00:16:29.32 as Jesus was approaching him 00:16:29.35\00:16:32.02 in the wilderness at Bethabara, 00:16:32.05\00:16:35.36 did I say that word correctly, Bethabara? 00:16:35.39\00:16:37.69 Sounds good to me. 00:16:37.73\00:16:39.06 That was beyond the Jordan, what was John doing there? 00:16:39.09\00:16:42.26 He was baptizing, and so here comes Jesus. 00:16:42.30\00:16:47.04 Now Jesus was John's cousin, 00:16:47.07\00:16:50.77 but I believe that John received 00:16:50.81\00:16:53.68 this by divine revelation 00:16:53.71\00:16:55.84 because I doubt 00:16:55.88\00:16:57.28 that at the last family reunion, 00:16:57.31\00:17:00.42 John and Jesus got together and said, 00:17:00.45\00:17:02.62 "Do you know what? 00:17:02.65\00:17:03.99 I think I'm the Lamb of God," and John said, 00:17:04.02\00:17:06.35 "Do you know what, I think you're the..." 00:17:06.39\00:17:07.72 No, I think this was by divine revelation. 00:17:07.76\00:17:09.92 Yes. Yes. 00:17:09.96\00:17:11.29 But here what John says, John 1:29, 00:17:11.33\00:17:14.90 "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, 00:17:14.93\00:17:19.70 and said, " what? 00:17:19.73\00:17:21.17 "Behold! 00:17:21.20\00:17:22.54 The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" 00:17:22.57\00:17:27.94 Now when John called Jesus, the Lamb of God, 00:17:27.98\00:17:32.05 he was making reference to sanctuary, 00:17:32.08\00:17:37.09 he was making reference to Jesus, 00:17:37.12\00:17:42.26 purpose for being here on the earth as you said, 00:17:42.29\00:17:45.09 Jesus born to die, born of a woman to die, 00:17:45.13\00:17:49.33 resurrected from the dead to live forever 00:17:49.36\00:17:53.30 as the King of kings and Lord of lords, 00:17:53.34\00:17:55.27 just to take that thought further. 00:17:55.30\00:17:57.24 Even more directly, 00:17:57.27\00:17:58.61 He was making reference to Christ's death for sin, 00:17:58.64\00:18:03.08 the ultimate culmination of all the sacrificial animals. 00:18:03.11\00:18:07.68 How long had they been sacrificing an animal? 00:18:07.72\00:18:11.15 Ever since God instituted 00:18:11.19\00:18:15.29 the feast of Passover 00:18:15.32\00:18:18.43 had they been sacrificing. 00:18:18.46\00:18:21.16 Even before. 00:18:21.20\00:18:22.53 That was the beginning of that sacrificial system. 00:18:22.56\00:18:27.07 The ultimate common culmination of all of those sacrifices 00:18:27.10\00:18:31.87 of that had ever been slain or sacrificed sin throughout 00:18:31.91\00:18:36.21 Hebrew sanctuary ritual history. 00:18:36.24\00:18:39.68 Okay, did you have a thought that you had on that? 00:18:39.71\00:18:41.78 Well, just... 00:18:41.82\00:18:43.15 I was just going to add that actually that's when 00:18:43.18\00:18:45.35 the sanctuary sacrificial system came, 00:18:45.39\00:18:48.22 but we know that from the very beginning, 00:18:48.26\00:18:52.06 when Adam and Eve lost their Shekinah glory, 00:18:52.09\00:18:55.70 God had to sacrifice, 00:18:55.73\00:18:57.50 and He instituted the sacrificial system 00:18:57.53\00:18:59.67 then we see with Cain and Abel, 00:18:59.70\00:19:01.77 so I know what you were talking about, 00:19:01.80\00:19:03.27 just wanted to clarify. 00:19:03.30\00:19:04.64 With the sanctuary... 00:19:04.67\00:19:06.31 The sanctuary, just wanted to clarify. 00:19:06.34\00:19:08.14 Okay, and that was good clarification. 00:19:08.18\00:19:10.75 Okay all four of the gospels, 00:19:10.78\00:19:13.48 Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John do the same thing. 00:19:13.52\00:19:16.08 They tell the story of what Jesus did 00:19:16.12\00:19:19.09 in His role as the Lamb of God 00:19:19.12\00:19:21.69 who takes away the sin of the world. 00:19:21.72\00:19:23.63 Now, here's a point that I think is worth making. 00:19:23.66\00:19:28.40 We aren't... 00:19:28.43\00:19:29.76 Have you ever heard this, 00:19:29.80\00:19:31.13 "I'm just a sinner saved by grace"? 00:19:31.17\00:19:33.50 Now is there truth in that, 00:19:33.54\00:19:35.97 but we aren't just sinners saved by grace. 00:19:36.00\00:19:40.21 We are now saints who are saved by faith. 00:19:40.24\00:19:44.81 That's good. Yeah, that's excellent. 00:19:44.85\00:19:46.88 Jesus takes away the sin of the world, 00:19:46.92\00:19:49.38 he who die to sin 00:19:49.42\00:19:52.32 consider ourselves dead to sin, 00:19:52.35\00:19:55.19 have we died to sin? 00:19:55.22\00:19:56.62 Then we consider ourselves dead to sin. 00:19:56.66\00:19:59.76 We were made free from sin. And, Jill, I'll do it. 00:19:59.79\00:20:04.27 I just have to put it in here. 00:20:04.30\00:20:05.67 If we confess our sins, 00:20:05.70\00:20:07.57 He's faithful and just to forgive us 00:20:07.60\00:20:09.74 and to cleanse us 00:20:09.77\00:20:11.11 from all unrighteousness, His sacrifice, 00:20:11.14\00:20:15.84 and that sacrifice was at Calvary, 00:20:15.88\00:20:18.41 He is the Lamb of God. 00:20:18.45\00:20:20.72 That sacrifice made a way for us 00:20:20.75\00:20:25.05 because He who knew no sin became sin. 00:20:25.09\00:20:28.49 Remember, what that... 00:20:28.52\00:20:30.56 In the natural sanctuary at Shiloh, 00:20:30.59\00:20:35.83 the sins were applied to that animal for the nation 00:20:35.86\00:20:39.53 for that year, and then He was sacrificed. 00:20:39.57\00:20:42.24 Well, He who knew no sin became sin for who? 00:20:42.27\00:20:47.04 For us. 00:20:47.08\00:20:48.41 He took our sins upon Himself as the Lamb of God 00:20:48.44\00:20:53.52 and, oh, is that double imputation, 00:20:53.55\00:20:57.32 I love that word. 00:20:57.35\00:20:58.69 Jill Morikone, to my knowledge, is the one that coined that. 00:20:58.72\00:21:01.72 He became sin for us, He took our sins, 00:21:01.76\00:21:05.89 but then you know what else He did? 00:21:05.93\00:21:08.83 He Imputed righteousness to us. 00:21:08.86\00:21:12.43 He took our sins, and we became righteous. 00:21:12.47\00:21:15.70 Hey, what kind of deal is that? 00:21:15.74\00:21:17.57 Amen. Okay. 00:21:17.61\00:21:20.14 Let me just... 00:21:20.18\00:21:21.51 Let's just look at a few scriptures 00:21:21.54\00:21:23.18 concerning Christ as the Lamb of God. 00:21:23.21\00:21:26.11 Go to Revelation, 00:21:26.15\00:21:27.48 we're going to look at a few there, 00:21:27.52\00:21:29.52 and then we'll probably jump back to Hebrews, 00:21:29.55\00:21:32.52 but Revelation 5:12, 00:21:32.55\00:21:37.66 the scripture says, 00:21:37.69\00:21:39.03 "Worthy is the Lamb 00:21:39.06\00:21:40.83 who was slain to receive power, 00:21:40.86\00:21:44.27 and riches, and wisdom, 00:21:44.30\00:21:46.27 and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessings!" 00:21:46.30\00:21:51.31 Worthy is that Lamb. 00:21:51.34\00:21:53.48 Now in Revelation 13:8, 00:21:53.51\00:21:58.95 we're talking about those that worship the beast. 00:21:58.98\00:22:03.55 Shelley, I know you shared the scripture earlier, 00:22:03.59\00:22:06.86 maybe not in today's lesson, 00:22:06.89\00:22:08.62 but I know this scripture has been mentioned 00:22:08.66\00:22:11.29 a few times, Revelation 13:8, 00:22:11.33\00:22:16.20 "All who dwell on the earth will worship him," 00:22:16.23\00:22:19.17 and that's talking about the beast, 00:22:19.20\00:22:21.37 whose names have 00:22:21.40\00:22:22.97 not been written in the Book of Life 00:22:23.00\00:22:26.78 of the Lamb slain 00:22:26.81\00:22:28.24 from the foundation of the world." 00:22:28.28\00:22:29.74 Oh! 00:22:29.78\00:22:31.11 Do we want our name written in the Book of Life? 00:22:31.15\00:22:33.98 Okay, and I now I want 00:22:34.02\00:22:35.35 to just touch on this, Hebrews 1:3, 00:22:35.38\00:22:38.45 jump to Hebrews just for a minute. 00:22:38.49\00:22:40.76 Hebrews 1:3, 00:22:40.79\00:22:42.76 we're told that Jesus did this after His ascension 00:22:42.79\00:22:47.36 because He is the Lamb that was slain, 00:22:47.40\00:22:50.20 but you know that... 00:22:50.23\00:22:52.03 And we understand His death burial, 00:22:52.07\00:22:55.20 but let's look at the resurrection, 00:22:55.24\00:22:57.81 "Who being the brightness of His glory 00:22:57.84\00:23:00.88 and the express image of His person, 00:23:00.91\00:23:03.14 and upholding all things by the word of His power, 00:23:03.18\00:23:07.05 when He had by Himself purged our sins." 00:23:07.08\00:23:10.35 Done what? Purged our sins. 00:23:10.39\00:23:12.65 Here's what happened. 00:23:12.69\00:23:14.19 "He sat down at the right hand of Majesty on high." 00:23:14.22\00:23:19.13 So where is Jesus right now? 00:23:19.16\00:23:20.76 Seated at the right hand of the Father. 00:23:20.80\00:23:22.70 What is He doing for us? 00:23:22.73\00:23:24.57 He is forever making intercession for us. 00:23:24.60\00:23:27.64 His work at His crucifixion, at His death, 00:23:27.67\00:23:32.67 it didn't end there as the Lamb of God 00:23:32.71\00:23:36.54 after His work as the sacrificial lamb, 00:23:36.58\00:23:40.52 Christ became something, Shelley, you hit on it. 00:23:40.55\00:23:43.39 He is now our great high priest. 00:23:43.42\00:23:47.22 And what does a high priest do? What is an intercessor? 00:23:47.26\00:23:51.23 He's forever making intercession for us. 00:23:51.26\00:23:53.76 He is our great high priest. 00:23:53.80\00:23:55.93 And you know what an intercessor does? 00:23:55.96\00:23:58.37 An intercessor stands in the gap 00:23:58.40\00:24:00.87 and makes up the hedge, 00:24:00.90\00:24:02.30 the Lord Jesus Christ, Greg, he takes hold of your hand, 00:24:02.34\00:24:06.61 then he takes hand, hold of the hand of God, 00:24:06.64\00:24:10.11 and He brings us together that is what He's doing for us. 00:24:10.15\00:24:14.62 He's as our great high priest. 00:24:14.65\00:24:16.85 He's forever making intercession for us. 00:24:16.89\00:24:21.12 Let's go to Hebrews 4, 00:24:21.16\00:24:22.92 I think I've got you in Hebrews 1 now. 00:24:22.96\00:24:24.53 Let's go to Hebrews 4 and look at 14-16, it says, 00:24:24.56\00:24:29.30 "Seeing then that we have a great high priest 00:24:29.33\00:24:31.90 who is passed from the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, 00:24:31.93\00:24:35.20 let us hold fast our confession, 00:24:35.24\00:24:37.67 for we do not have a high priest 00:24:37.71\00:24:39.31 who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, 00:24:39.34\00:24:42.01 but was in all points tempted as we are, 00:24:42.04\00:24:44.35 yet without sin. 00:24:44.38\00:24:45.85 Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace 00:24:45.88\00:24:49.12 that we may obtain mercy and grace to help 00:24:49.15\00:24:52.15 in time of need." 00:24:52.19\00:24:53.52 As the Lamb of God, 00:24:53.56\00:24:54.99 our sins were transferred to Him, 00:24:55.02\00:24:57.09 as our great high priest, 00:24:57.13\00:24:59.16 He's standing in the gap making up the hedge for us. 00:24:59.19\00:25:02.93 Hooray! Amen. 00:25:02.96\00:25:04.83 Yeah, that's great. Wow! 00:25:04.87\00:25:06.20 This is just a great study, 00:25:06.23\00:25:07.74 Christ in the heavenly sanctuary, 00:25:07.77\00:25:09.60 and I have Tuesday, and it's our high priest, 00:25:09.64\00:25:13.07 and Mollie in this last passage that she was reading, 00:25:13.11\00:25:15.61 here actually mentions 00:25:15.64\00:25:16.98 that Christ being the high priest, 00:25:17.01\00:25:19.18 what I want to do is actually go to Hebrews 7, 00:25:19.21\00:25:22.92 so just a couple of chapters 00:25:22.95\00:25:25.19 further in the Book of Hebrews. 00:25:25.22\00:25:27.09 Hebrews 7, 00:25:27.12\00:25:28.92 and we're going to be looking at verses 22-24. 00:25:28.96\00:25:33.83 And the question that I have here 00:25:33.86\00:25:35.53 is what qualifications does Christ have 00:25:35.56\00:25:39.23 as our high priest 00:25:39.27\00:25:41.04 that no other priest could ever have? 00:25:41.07\00:25:45.04 So let's look at Hebrews 7:22-24, 00:25:45.07\00:25:51.11 and I have it... 00:25:51.15\00:25:53.05 Again, my wife has typed some of this out for me, 00:25:53.08\00:25:54.85 so I'm going to read it here from my paper. 00:25:54.88\00:25:56.32 It says, I have three points, and point number one is, 00:25:56.35\00:25:59.19 "He has a permanent priesthood." 00:25:59.22\00:26:02.42 Point number one. He has a permanent priesthood. 00:26:02.46\00:26:04.96 It says, "By so much more," 00:26:04.99\00:26:06.76 and that's referring to Melchizedek, 00:26:06.80\00:26:08.80 "Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant." 00:26:08.83\00:26:12.53 Amen. 00:26:12.57\00:26:13.90 "Also there were many priests 00:26:13.94\00:26:16.10 because they were prevented by death 00:26:16.14\00:26:18.17 from continuing but He, Jesus Christ, 00:26:18.21\00:26:22.68 because He continues forever 00:26:22.71\00:26:25.38 has an unchangeable priesthood." 00:26:25.41\00:26:27.32 So there we have it, He, meaning Jesus, 00:26:27.35\00:26:29.62 continues forever. 00:26:29.65\00:26:30.99 So point number one, 00:26:31.02\00:26:32.35 "He has a permanent priesthood." 00:26:32.39\00:26:33.96 Point number two, 00:26:33.99\00:26:35.32 "He is able to save completely." 00:26:35.36\00:26:38.69 Let's confer that. Hebrews 7:25, let's turn there. 00:26:38.73\00:26:41.83 Hebrews... 00:26:41.86\00:26:43.20 Well, a couple verses down actually. 00:26:43.23\00:26:44.60 Hebrews 7:25, and it says," 00:26:44.63\00:26:47.17 Wherefore, He is able also to save them 00:26:47.20\00:26:50.07 to the uttermost 00:26:50.11\00:26:51.97 that come unto God by him seeing 00:26:52.01\00:26:56.28 He ever liveth to make intercession for them." 00:26:56.31\00:27:00.62 So we have here, He is able to save completely, 00:27:00.65\00:27:03.45 and that is where it says save to the uttermost. 00:27:03.49\00:27:06.45 I'd say that's powerful. Amen. 00:27:06.49\00:27:09.26 Point number three, "He is God, and He is holy, 00:27:09.29\00:27:15.40 and He has authority to forgive our sins, my sins." 00:27:15.43\00:27:19.40 Wow! Praise the Lord. 00:27:19.43\00:27:20.77 Hebrews 7:26 and 27, and it says, 00:27:20.80\00:27:25.81 "For such a high priest became us, 00:27:25.84\00:27:29.51 who is holy, harmless, 00:27:29.54\00:27:32.81 undefiled, separate from sinners, 00:27:32.85\00:27:35.85 and has become higher than the heavens 00:27:35.88\00:27:38.92 who does not need daily, 00:27:38.95\00:27:40.69 as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, 00:27:40.72\00:27:44.23 first, for His own sins, and then for the people's, 00:27:44.26\00:27:48.13 for He did this once for all 00:27:48.16\00:27:50.87 when He offered up Himself." 00:27:50.90\00:27:53.84 So Christ offered up Himself as the ultimate sacrifice 00:27:53.87\00:27:57.24 for my sins. 00:27:57.27\00:27:59.04 He knew no sin, I think that's an important part too, 00:27:59.07\00:28:01.14 He knew no sin. 00:28:01.18\00:28:02.51 I think, Shelley, you touched on that earlier 00:28:02.54\00:28:03.95 but He died for me, took what I deserved. 00:28:03.98\00:28:06.75 "Christ also came as a man to live this life," 00:28:06.78\00:28:09.65 verse 26 says, "He became us..." 00:28:09.68\00:28:12.55 Became "us". 00:28:12.59\00:28:13.92 It's something that I have a hard time... 00:28:13.96\00:28:15.52 I don't think I'll ever understand, 00:28:15.56\00:28:16.89 Pastor CA, 00:28:16.93\00:28:18.26 how God could be 100% divine and 100% human. 00:28:18.29\00:28:22.20 You know, that's just amazing 00:28:22.23\00:28:23.57 but God has that all figured out, 00:28:23.60\00:28:25.13 and I appreciate so much His sacrifice for me. 00:28:25.17\00:28:28.07 "Christ's sacrifice was complete. 00:28:28.10\00:28:30.61 It was once and for all. 00:28:30.64\00:28:32.34 It needed to happen only one time." 00:28:32.37\00:28:33.91 And I think, Mollie, you were mentioning that. 00:28:33.94\00:28:36.14 "It only needed to happen one time, 00:28:36.18\00:28:37.51 and it was sufficient to bring salvation 00:28:37.55\00:28:39.68 to every human being." 00:28:39.71\00:28:41.95 And I just have a little side note here 00:28:41.98\00:28:43.42 in my notes, another side note in my notes. 00:28:43.45\00:28:46.09 "Sufficient to bring salvation," 00:28:46.12\00:28:48.09 and I just have here what a gift... 00:28:48.12\00:28:49.86 What a gift from Jesus Christ. 00:28:49.89\00:28:51.49 It always touches my heart, and I think, 00:28:51.53\00:28:53.16 many times we need 00:28:53.19\00:28:54.53 to just contemplate that sacrifice, 00:28:54.56\00:28:55.96 and Ellen White mentions that too, 00:28:56.00\00:28:57.57 what Jesus has done for us, it's truly amazing. 00:28:57.60\00:29:00.07 So the three points... 00:29:00.10\00:29:01.70 Again, the question was what qualifications 00:29:01.74\00:29:05.81 does Christ have as our high priest 00:29:05.84\00:29:07.31 that no other priest could ever have? 00:29:07.34\00:29:08.81 Point one, He has a permanent Priesthood, 00:29:08.84\00:29:10.98 He is able to save completely, and then point three, 00:29:11.01\00:29:13.95 He is God, He is holy, 00:29:13.98\00:29:15.78 and He has authority to forgive sins. 00:29:15.82\00:29:19.05 I want to look at Hebrews 8:6. 00:29:19.09\00:29:22.82 Hebrews 8:6, 00:29:22.86\00:29:24.86 and this is talking about Christ as our mediator. 00:29:24.89\00:29:28.36 And again, you were talking about Christ 00:29:28.40\00:29:29.73 as our intercessor, Mollie. 00:29:29.76\00:29:31.40 Hebrews 8:6 says, 00:29:31.43\00:29:34.24 "But now, He has obtained a more excellent ministry 00:29:34.27\00:29:39.97 inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, 00:29:40.01\00:29:44.88 which was established on better promises." 00:29:44.91\00:29:48.02 So we have a more excellent ministry, 00:29:48.05\00:29:50.79 here Paul begins the discussion of Christ 00:29:50.82\00:29:53.69 as the mediator of a better covenant, 00:29:53.72\00:29:56.83 and Mollie again mentioned this, 00:29:56.86\00:29:58.19 but mediator is one 00:29:58.23\00:29:59.56 who mediates between two parties 00:29:59.59\00:30:02.93 to remove a disagreement or to reach a common goal. 00:30:02.96\00:30:06.60 And, Mollie, I liked what you did, 00:30:06.63\00:30:07.97 you know, you grasped my hand, 00:30:08.00\00:30:09.34 and your illustration was just powerful. 00:30:09.37\00:30:11.51 Yeah, because it's really bringing sinful man 00:30:11.54\00:30:13.98 and God together. 00:30:14.01\00:30:15.44 So I tell you, praise the Lord for that. 00:30:15.48\00:30:17.21 Interesting little side note here, 00:30:17.25\00:30:18.58 it says the word mediator occurs six times 00:30:18.61\00:30:22.78 in the New Testament, 00:30:22.82\00:30:24.49 and four times it's with reference to Christ. 00:30:24.52\00:30:27.16 Christ is the mediator between God and man 00:30:27.19\00:30:30.36 and can lay His hands on both us 00:30:30.39\00:30:33.29 as sinful human beings and His connection with God. 00:30:33.33\00:30:36.43 As God, He understands God and can speak for Him, 00:30:36.46\00:30:41.37 as man He understands man 00:30:41.40\00:30:44.47 and can sympathetically minister for Him 00:30:44.51\00:30:47.21 before the Father in heaven. 00:30:47.24\00:30:49.34 It's just like wow, praise the Lord. 00:30:49.38\00:30:50.71 If we could stand up here on this Sabbath school set, 00:30:50.75\00:30:52.41 I think I would. 00:30:52.45\00:30:53.78 Praise the Lord for that. 00:30:53.82\00:30:55.15 I tell you, it's just, wow, it's just unbelievable. 00:30:55.18\00:30:58.05 And I have here, this is from the lesson, 00:30:58.09\00:30:59.42 so if you're following along in your Sabbath school lesson, 00:30:59.45\00:31:01.89 it's, the question is what has Christ obtained 00:31:01.92\00:31:05.63 for us through His death and now His ministry in heaven? 00:31:05.66\00:31:10.23 So let's look next chapter 00:31:10.27\00:31:11.73 over Hebrews 9:11-15. 00:31:11.77\00:31:17.91 And we'll just go verse 11 and 12, it says, 00:31:17.94\00:31:21.41 "But when Christ appears 00:31:21.44\00:31:23.28 as a high priest of the good things to come, 00:31:23.31\00:31:26.61 He entered through the greater 00:31:26.65\00:31:27.98 and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, 00:31:28.02\00:31:31.55 that is to say not of this creation." 00:31:31.59\00:31:34.12 Verse 12, 00:31:34.16\00:31:35.49 "And not through the blood of goats and calves, 00:31:35.52\00:31:38.36 but through His own blood, 00:31:38.39\00:31:40.33 He entered the Holy Place once and for all," 00:31:40.36\00:31:43.40 which you were mentioning, Mollie, 00:31:43.43\00:31:45.03 having obtained eternal redemption." 00:31:45.07\00:31:48.57 So Christ has obtained eternal redemption 00:31:48.60\00:31:50.61 and He turned to life to those who believe in Him. 00:31:50.64\00:31:54.28 And redemption to me, and actually it's not to me, 00:31:54.31\00:31:57.21 but this is the Greek translation, 00:31:57.25\00:31:59.55 that also means to ransom or releasing or deliverance. 00:31:59.58\00:32:04.72 So if you read the last part of verse 12, 00:32:04.75\00:32:06.52 it says having obtained eternal deliverance. 00:32:06.55\00:32:10.49 Praise God for that. 00:32:10.53\00:32:11.86 Verse 13 says, 00:32:11.89\00:32:13.23 "For if the blood of goats and bulls 00:32:13.26\00:32:14.66 and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling 00:32:14.70\00:32:17.43 those who have been defiled sanctified 00:32:17.47\00:32:20.04 for the cleansing of the flesh." 00:32:20.07\00:32:22.70 So here we have the type 00:32:22.74\00:32:24.61 which would be the heifer, the goat, 00:32:24.64\00:32:26.68 it's, obviously, symbolic of Christ's sacrifice 00:32:26.71\00:32:29.71 for each one of us. 00:32:29.74\00:32:31.45 Verse 14, here is the anti-type. 00:32:31.48\00:32:34.32 Verse 14 says, 00:32:34.35\00:32:35.68 "How much more will the blood of Christ..." 00:32:35.72\00:32:38.05 He's the anti-type, 00:32:38.09\00:32:40.16 "Who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself 00:32:40.19\00:32:44.29 without blemish to God, 00:32:44.33\00:32:46.59 cleanse your conscience from dead works 00:32:46.63\00:32:48.90 to serve the Living God." 00:32:48.93\00:32:51.70 And I took from the... 00:32:51.73\00:32:53.07 I like, you know, to do some different studies. 00:32:53.10\00:32:54.44 And from the SDA Commentary, 00:32:54.47\00:32:56.14 I like what it says here for the word serve 00:32:56.17\00:32:57.97 at the end of verse 14, 00:32:58.01\00:32:59.34 it says, "Serve the Living God." 00:32:59.37\00:33:00.71 It says, 00:33:00.74\00:33:02.08 "Cleansing, or we are redeemed for service?" 00:33:02.11\00:33:04.51 Cleansing is not an end in itself, 00:33:04.55\00:33:07.52 it prepares men to render acceptable service to God. 00:33:07.55\00:33:12.55 I know I'm running out of time, but I wanted to just read this. 00:33:12.59\00:33:14.72 This is from Sanctified Life, page 87 and it says, Paul, 00:33:14.76\00:33:19.56 in reference to Colossians 3:12, 00:33:19.59\00:33:21.26 "But Paul seeks to impress upon the minds 00:33:21.30\00:33:24.00 the fact that the foundation of all acceptable service..." 00:33:24.03\00:33:28.07 We're talking about service to God, 00:33:28.10\00:33:30.11 "As well as the very 00:33:30.14\00:33:31.54 of the Christian grace is love." 00:33:31.57\00:33:34.18 Because sometimes okay, what is my service to God, 00:33:34.21\00:33:35.84 and that's what I was looking up 00:33:35.88\00:33:37.21 because how do I serve God acceptably? 00:33:37.25\00:33:39.61 And it says, "With love, and that only in the soul 00:33:39.65\00:33:42.78 where love reigns will the peace of God abide." 00:33:42.82\00:33:46.96 And then you can look up actually Colossians 3:12-17 00:33:46.99\00:33:50.49 because that scripturally answers 00:33:50.53\00:33:51.86 that as well. 00:33:51.89\00:33:53.23 It's just a powerful passage, 00:33:53.26\00:33:54.60 "Well, let's move on to verse 15, 00:33:54.63\00:33:56.36 we're again into Hebrews 9:15, 00:33:56.40\00:33:59.83 it says, "For this reason, 00:33:59.87\00:34:01.80 He is the mediator of the new covenant. 00:34:01.84\00:34:05.07 So that since the death has taken place 00:34:05.11\00:34:07.78 for the redemption of the transgressions 00:34:07.81\00:34:10.08 that were committed under the first covenant, 00:34:10.11\00:34:12.55 those who have been called 00:34:12.58\00:34:13.92 may receive the promise of eternal inheritance." 00:34:13.95\00:34:18.49 So the mediator of the new covenant... 00:34:18.52\00:34:20.36 What is the new covenant? 00:34:20.39\00:34:21.89 Let's look at Hebrews 8:10, 00:34:21.92\00:34:24.59 so let's just flip back to chapter Hebrews 8:10 says, 00:34:24.63\00:34:28.60 "For this is the covenant 00:34:28.63\00:34:30.07 that I will make with the house of Israel after those days," 00:34:30.10\00:34:33.27 says the Lord." 00:34:33.30\00:34:34.64 What does He say? 00:34:34.67\00:34:36.40 I will put My laws in their mind 00:34:36.44\00:34:39.31 and write them on their hearts, 00:34:39.34\00:34:41.81 and I will be their God, and they will be My people. 00:34:41.84\00:34:46.58 So Christ is our Sacrifice, He is our High Priest, 00:34:46.61\00:34:49.85 He is our Redeemer and our Mediator, 00:34:49.88\00:34:52.62 and I want to read this in closing. 00:34:52.65\00:34:54.12 This comes from Desire of Ages, 00:34:54.16\00:34:55.76 "Christ was treated as we deserve 00:34:55.79\00:34:58.29 that we might be treated as He deserves. 00:34:58.33\00:35:01.50 He was condemned for our sins in which He had no share 00:35:01.53\00:35:05.57 that we might be justified by His righteousness 00:35:05.60\00:35:09.00 in which we had no share. 00:35:09.04\00:35:11.31 He suffered the death which was ours 00:35:11.34\00:35:13.84 that we might receive the life which was His, 00:35:13.88\00:35:16.68 with His stripes, we are healed." 00:35:16.71\00:35:18.75 That's from Desire of Ages, page 25. 00:35:18.78\00:35:21.12 Amen, thank you so much, 00:35:21.15\00:35:23.05 I loved that passage from Desire of Ages, 00:35:23.08\00:35:26.22 how Christ was treated as we deserved, 00:35:26.25\00:35:27.99 that's that double imputation we were talking about before. 00:35:28.02\00:35:29.99 That's true. 00:35:30.03\00:35:31.36 He took our sin, 00:35:31.39\00:35:33.29 and then imputed to us His righteous. 00:35:33.33\00:35:36.30 What an incredible gift. 00:35:36.33\00:35:38.47 We've been talking today about Christ as our substitute, 00:35:38.50\00:35:42.67 Christ as our sacrifice, Christ as our high priest. 00:35:42.70\00:35:48.31 In my portion, 00:35:48.34\00:35:49.68 some of the scriptures you all read, 00:35:49.71\00:35:51.11 I'm going to touch on again, 00:35:51.15\00:35:52.48 but my portion has to do with Christ as our intercessor, 00:35:52.51\00:35:57.45 still dealing with a high priestly ministry 00:35:57.49\00:35:59.82 of the Lord Jesus, but Him as intercessor, 00:35:59.85\00:36:03.43 we all have a need for an intercessor, 00:36:03.46\00:36:07.20 would you say that's accurate? 00:36:07.23\00:36:08.56 You think about in the Garden of Eden... 00:36:08.60\00:36:11.23 When Adam and Eve first sinned, sin brought fear, 00:36:11.27\00:36:16.47 sin brought guilt, 00:36:16.50\00:36:18.24 sin brought separation from the Father. 00:36:18.27\00:36:21.91 Remember, when God came to talk with them 00:36:21.94\00:36:24.28 in the cool of the day, and they ran and they hid. 00:36:24.31\00:36:28.15 Sin brought that separation. 00:36:28.18\00:36:30.45 And I know each one of you 00:36:30.49\00:36:31.82 have been touching on that a bit. 00:36:31.85\00:36:33.19 Romans 3, turn with me to Romans 3, 00:36:33.22\00:36:36.02 and we know we can quote this scripture, 00:36:36.06\00:36:38.19 we know that all have sinned 00:36:38.23\00:36:40.70 and fallen short of the glory of God. 00:36:40.73\00:36:44.27 We all have sinned, 00:36:44.30\00:36:45.83 but yet we all have the opportunity 00:36:45.87\00:36:49.20 to be justified by His blood 00:36:49.24\00:36:51.87 'cause this scripture does not stop there 00:36:51.91\00:36:54.01 and praise the Lord, it doesn't. 00:36:54.04\00:36:55.71 It could just stop with " 00:36:55.74\00:36:57.08 all have sinned and fallen short," 00:36:57.11\00:36:58.45 and we would be without hope, but yet the next verse, 00:36:58.48\00:37:02.15 it says, "Being justified freely 00:37:02.18\00:37:04.55 by His grace..." 00:37:04.59\00:37:05.92 We all have the opportunity, 00:37:05.95\00:37:07.29 the privilege of being justified, 00:37:07.32\00:37:09.86 "By His grace through the redemption 00:37:09.89\00:37:11.76 that is in Christ, Jesus." 00:37:11.79\00:37:13.56 He bought us back, 00:37:13.60\00:37:15.60 He redeemed us out of the kingdom of darkness 00:37:15.63\00:37:17.60 and brought us 00:37:17.63\00:37:18.97 into the kingdom of God's dear Son. 00:37:19.00\00:37:20.34 Yes, amen. Hallelujah! 00:37:20.37\00:37:21.70 Amen. We are justified through that. 00:37:21.74\00:37:23.67 And verse 25, 00:37:23.71\00:37:25.04 "Whom God set forth as a propitiation..." 00:37:25.07\00:37:27.71 On our previous lesson, we talked about that 00:37:27.74\00:37:29.81 in this symbolism of the mercy seat, 00:37:29.84\00:37:33.11 "And through His blood, 00:37:33.15\00:37:35.38 through faith to demonstrate His forbearance, 00:37:35.42\00:37:38.15 His righteousness..." 00:37:38.19\00:37:39.52 I'm sorry, let me read that again, 00:37:39.55\00:37:41.66 "Whom God set forth as a propitiation 00:37:41.69\00:37:45.56 by His blood through faith 00:37:45.59\00:37:47.60 to demonstrate His righteousness 00:37:47.63\00:37:50.07 because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins 00:37:50.10\00:37:53.20 that were previously committed 00:37:53.23\00:37:54.97 to demonstrate at the present time 00:37:55.00\00:37:56.60 His righteousness 00:37:56.64\00:37:58.11 that He might be just and the justifier, 00:37:58.14\00:38:00.28 the one who has faith in Christ." 00:38:00.31\00:38:03.01 Praise the Lord that because of Jesus 00:38:03.04\00:38:06.18 we know we all have sinned but because of Jesus 00:38:06.21\00:38:08.78 we all have the opportunity to be justified, 00:38:08.82\00:38:11.05 and we all could be reconciled again back to the Father. 00:38:11.09\00:38:16.02 Ephesians 2:18, "Through Him, 00:38:16.06\00:38:20.10 we both have access by one spirit to the Father." 00:38:20.13\00:38:24.47 Because of the substitutionary death 00:38:24.50\00:38:26.57 of Jesus Christ, we have access again to God. 00:38:26.60\00:38:30.64 We can be connected back again, that mediatorial work. 00:38:30.67\00:38:36.24 We all also are condemned and accused by Satan. 00:38:36.28\00:38:41.58 Let's look at Zechariah 3. 00:38:41.62\00:38:43.85 Zechariah 3 has an interesting vision 00:38:43.89\00:38:47.92 that is given to Zechariah. 00:38:47.96\00:38:49.96 Zechariah is kind of a hard book to find, 00:38:49.99\00:38:52.26 were almost the last book 00:38:52.29\00:38:54.40 in the Old Testament Zechariah, Malachi. 00:38:54.43\00:38:57.57 Zechariah 3, 00:38:57.60\00:38:58.93 we'll start with verse 1, "Then He showed me..." 00:38:58.97\00:39:01.90 This is the vision Zechariah had, 00:39:01.94\00:39:04.11 "Then he showed me Joshua, the high priest, 00:39:04.14\00:39:06.41 standing before the angel of the Lord 00:39:06.44\00:39:08.64 and Satan standing 00:39:08.68\00:39:10.01 at his right hand to oppose him." 00:39:10.05\00:39:12.71 Now we know that Joshua was literally 00:39:12.75\00:39:16.02 the high priest at that time. 00:39:16.05\00:39:19.05 During the time of Zechariah, Joshua was the high priest. 00:39:19.09\00:39:22.76 And the angel of the Lord being Jesus Christ, 00:39:22.79\00:39:26.23 and we know that Satan was standing at His right hand 00:39:26.26\00:39:30.77 to oppose Him. 00:39:30.80\00:39:32.30 We know Satan is always the accuser of the brethren. 00:39:32.33\00:39:37.11 Revelation 12:10, 00:39:37.14\00:39:38.47 "I heard a loud voice in heaven saying now 00:39:38.51\00:39:40.81 the salvation and the power and the Kingdom of our God 00:39:40.84\00:39:43.45 and the authority of His Christ have come, 00:39:43.48\00:39:46.45 for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, 00:39:46.48\00:39:51.05 he who accuses them before our God day and night." 00:39:51.09\00:39:53.69 So what's taking place here is Satan is accusing Joshua, 00:39:53.72\00:39:58.36 the high priest. 00:39:58.39\00:39:59.89 Now the name for Joshua is Yeshua in Hebrew, 00:39:59.93\00:40:03.50 and we also can see that analogy 00:40:03.53\00:40:06.30 that Christ took our sins, 00:40:06.33\00:40:10.51 and we can see that as well, and the Lord said, 00:40:10.54\00:40:13.64 we're in verse 2, Zechariah 3:2, 00:40:13.68\00:40:15.54 "And the Lord said to Satan, the Lord rebuke you Satan, 00:40:15.58\00:40:18.98 the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you, 00:40:19.01\00:40:21.65 it's not a brand plucked from the fire. 00:40:21.68\00:40:23.95 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments 00:40:23.99\00:40:26.72 and was standing before the angel." 00:40:26.76\00:40:28.82 If we look at Joshua being the literal high priest, 00:40:28.86\00:40:31.86 it's symbolic of the sins of Israel. 00:40:31.89\00:40:33.90 He's standing there, 00:40:33.93\00:40:35.33 you know, symbolizing clothed in these filthy garments. 00:40:35.36\00:40:37.90 Now we know Jesus also took our sin upon Himself. 00:40:37.93\00:40:43.27 Verse 4, "Then He answered and spoke to those 00:40:43.30\00:40:45.27 who stood before Him, saying, 00:40:45.31\00:40:47.71 "Take away the filthy garments from him. 00:40:47.74\00:40:50.31 Take the filthy garments off of Joshua." 00:40:50.35\00:40:52.78 And to him, he said, 00:40:52.81\00:40:54.15 "See, I have removed your iniquity from you. 00:40:54.18\00:40:56.18 I will clothe you with rich robes." 00:40:56.22\00:40:58.65 And I said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head." 00:40:58.69\00:41:01.39 So they put a clean turban on his head, 00:41:01.42\00:41:03.02 and they put the clothes on him. 00:41:03.06\00:41:04.56 And the angel of the Lord stood by, 00:41:04.59\00:41:06.93 Joshua's filthy garments were taken away. 00:41:06.96\00:41:09.70 The filthy garments were taken away, 00:41:09.73\00:41:12.77 and he was clothed and covered with Christ's righteousness." 00:41:12.80\00:41:18.74 We know that Christ does not condemn us, 00:41:18.77\00:41:23.98 instead He stands before the Father interceding 00:41:24.01\00:41:28.18 on our behalf. 00:41:28.22\00:41:30.75 We know that at the point of justification, 00:41:30.79\00:41:33.86 each one of us, 00:41:33.89\00:41:35.22 when we come to Christ, at that moment, 00:41:35.26\00:41:38.19 we stand before the Father as if we have never sinned. 00:41:38.23\00:41:42.26 It's amazing. 00:41:42.30\00:41:43.63 At the same time, after we experience conversion, 00:41:43.67\00:41:46.63 there are going to be times when we make a mistake, 00:41:46.67\00:41:49.80 when we slip up, and I think those are the times 00:41:49.84\00:41:52.37 when Satan comes before the Father 00:41:52.41\00:41:54.04 and says, "Okay did you see Jill?" 00:41:54.08\00:41:56.58 I thought she was a Christian and look at this sin, 00:41:56.61\00:41:59.08 and that's, praise the Lord, 00:41:59.11\00:42:00.75 where we have the intercessory work of Christ 00:42:00.78\00:42:04.42 in the most holy place. 00:42:04.45\00:42:06.62 And we see that in 1 John, 00:42:06.65\00:42:08.26 turn with me quickly to 1 John 2:1, 00:42:08.29\00:42:12.79 it says, "My, little children, these things I write to you 00:42:12.83\00:42:15.26 so that you may not sin and if anyone sins, 00:42:15.30\00:42:18.80 we have an advocate with the Father, 00:42:18.83\00:42:21.64 Jesus Christ the righteous, 00:42:21.67\00:42:23.67 He Himself is the propitiation for our sins 00:42:23.71\00:42:27.11 and not for ours only, but also for the whole world." 00:42:27.14\00:42:31.28 Romans 8:34, "Who is he who condemns?" 00:42:31.31\00:42:35.05 We know Satan is the accuser of the brethren, not Christ. 00:42:35.08\00:42:37.52 "Who is he who condemns?" 00:42:37.55\00:42:38.89 It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen 00:42:38.92\00:42:43.19 and is at the right hand of God, 00:42:43.22\00:42:45.69 who makes intercession for us." 00:42:45.73\00:42:48.83 So I just imagined in my simple mind 00:42:48.86\00:42:51.30 that Christ is there in the heavenly sanctuary 00:42:51.33\00:42:55.50 and Satan is saying, "Well, you know what they did? 00:42:55.54\00:42:57.67 And you know that's sin? 00:42:57.71\00:42:59.04 And Jesus is pleading His blood 00:42:59.07\00:43:02.71 interceding on our behalf before the Father, 00:43:02.74\00:43:06.41 He's saying, "Yes, Jill made a mistake. 00:43:06.45\00:43:08.88 Yes, Jill sinned, but that has been covered, 00:43:08.92\00:43:11.95 that has been confessed, that is forgiven. 00:43:11.99\00:43:15.06 She can stand before the Father in that righteous white robe." 00:43:15.09\00:43:19.29 We can stand before Him pure and holy 00:43:19.33\00:43:22.53 as if we have never sinned. 00:43:22.56\00:43:24.23 Let's look at a few verses in Hebrews. 00:43:24.27\00:43:26.70 If you're looking at Christ as our high priest, 00:43:26.74\00:43:29.00 there is no better book in the whole Bible 00:43:29.04\00:43:30.94 to look at than the Book of Hebrews 00:43:30.97\00:43:32.51 'cause it has so many references 00:43:32.54\00:43:34.94 to Christ as our high priest. 00:43:34.98\00:43:36.34 Now, Mollie, you referenced this one, 00:43:36.38\00:43:38.05 we're going to look at it again, Hebrews 4:14, 00:43:38.08\00:43:41.82 we're going to look at a couple of scriptures in Hebrews. 00:43:41.85\00:43:44.19 "Seeing then we have a great high priest 00:43:44.22\00:43:46.65 who is passed through the heavens, 00:43:46.69\00:43:48.22 Jesus, the Son of God, 00:43:48.26\00:43:49.79 let us hold fast our confession, 00:43:49.82\00:43:51.49 for we do not have a high priest 00:43:51.53\00:43:53.26 who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, 00:43:53.29\00:43:55.40 but was in all points tempted as we are yet without sin. 00:43:55.43\00:43:58.67 Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace 00:43:58.70\00:44:01.30 that we may obtain mercy 00:44:01.34\00:44:02.70 and find grace to help in our time of need." 00:44:02.74\00:44:05.07 Now we could not come boldly before the Father 00:44:05.11\00:44:07.51 if we did not have the high priest. 00:44:07.54\00:44:09.81 If we did not have this perfect substitute, 00:44:09.84\00:44:12.95 if we did not have Jesus, 00:44:12.98\00:44:14.38 there would be no way that we could come boldly. 00:44:14.42\00:44:16.69 Remember, we're all under the condemnation of sin. 00:44:16.72\00:44:19.12 Adam and Eve hid from God, but because of Jesus, 00:44:19.15\00:44:22.69 we are reconciled back to the Father, 00:44:22.72\00:44:24.99 and we can come boldly before the presence of God. 00:44:25.03\00:44:29.73 I think we just have time for one more. 00:44:29.76\00:44:31.80 Let's look at Hebrews 7, 00:44:31.83\00:44:33.17 and you talk about this one, sweetheart. 00:44:33.20\00:44:34.90 Hebrews 7:25, 00:44:34.94\00:44:37.54 "Therefore, He is also Jesus, our high priest, 00:44:37.57\00:44:41.68 He is also able to save to the uttermost." 00:44:41.71\00:44:44.81 Amen. 00:44:44.85\00:44:46.18 In Greek, it means completely, forever, entirely, perfectly, 00:44:46.21\00:44:52.45 through all time. 00:44:52.49\00:44:54.82 Jesus is able to save completely. 00:44:54.86\00:44:57.36 He can save forever, He can save entirely, 00:44:57.39\00:45:00.80 He can save perfectly, He saves through all time. 00:45:00.83\00:45:05.77 Those who come to God through Him 00:45:05.80\00:45:08.47 since He ever lives to make intercession for us, 00:45:08.50\00:45:12.57 so praise the Lord that we have a high priest 00:45:12.61\00:45:16.78 and that He is interceding for us 00:45:16.81\00:45:19.65 right now before the Father. 00:45:19.68\00:45:21.02 Amen Amen. 00:45:21.05\00:45:22.38 Well done and a beautiful picture of that process. 00:45:22.42\00:45:26.96 On Thursday, we looked at the Day of Atonement, 00:45:26.99\00:45:31.03 and I would ask you to spend some time 00:45:31.06\00:45:34.76 looking at Leviticus 16 00:45:34.80\00:45:36.83 where we have the Day of Atonement 00:45:36.87\00:45:38.87 as practiced by the children of Israel. 00:45:38.90\00:45:41.27 We don't have time to read through all of that, 00:45:41.30\00:45:44.41 but perhaps we do well to look at the Day of Atonement 00:45:44.44\00:45:48.78 through the lens of the Book of Hebrews 00:45:48.81\00:45:52.38 as you have well said, Jill. 00:45:52.41\00:45:56.05 So I want to go to Hebrews 9, 00:45:56.08\00:45:58.49 and I'm gonna start with verse 20 00:45:58.52\00:46:00.02 and just read a few verses 00:46:00.06\00:46:01.82 to sort of set the stage for our discussion. 00:46:01.86\00:46:05.19 I'm in Hebrews 9, beginning of verse 20, 00:46:05.23\00:46:08.36 and this is the New King James, beginning of verse 20, 00:46:08.40\00:46:12.37 "This is the blood of the covenant 00:46:12.40\00:46:14.74 which God has commanded you." 00:46:14.77\00:46:16.30 21, "Then likewise, He sprinkled with blood, 00:46:16.34\00:46:19.27 both the tabernacle 00:46:19.31\00:46:21.21 and all the vessels of the ministry, 00:46:21.24\00:46:23.88 and according to the law, 00:46:23.91\00:46:26.55 almost all things are purified with blood, 00:46:26.58\00:46:29.95 and without shedding of blood, 00:46:29.98\00:46:33.46 there is no remission." 00:46:33.49\00:46:37.86 Shelley, I really appreciated that list of reasons, 00:46:37.89\00:46:40.73 the rationale for Christ's coming, 00:46:40.76\00:46:43.80 His death, His resurrection, and His ministry even now. 00:46:43.83\00:46:47.97 I want to add one more that may be sort of 00:46:48.00\00:46:50.01 an overarching principle to all of those, 00:46:50.04\00:46:53.51 and that is simply because there was no other way. 00:46:53.54\00:46:57.95 There was no other way for our sins to be dealt with 00:46:57.98\00:47:02.75 because blood had to be shed. 00:47:02.78\00:47:05.65 Now, as was read before earlier in the same chapter, Hebrews 9, 00:47:05.69\00:47:10.89 we know that the shedding of blood by goats and bulls 00:47:10.93\00:47:16.77 could never really deal with sin. 00:47:16.80\00:47:19.63 Those acts were done in faith and were accepted as such, 00:47:19.67\00:47:23.87 but we needed the shedding of blood of Jesus 00:47:23.91\00:47:28.01 to really make this, can I say to make this work? 00:47:28.04\00:47:34.42 Psalms 77:13, God's way is in the sanctuary. 00:47:34.45\00:47:38.15 So we always need to study the sanctuary 00:47:38.19\00:47:40.42 for a number of things. 00:47:40.46\00:47:41.79 One, so we can see 00:47:41.82\00:47:43.29 what's going on in heaven right now. 00:47:43.32\00:47:45.86 We can see where we are in the stream of time. 00:47:45.89\00:47:48.90 We can see what is being done for us. 00:47:48.93\00:47:52.10 We can have assurance 00:47:52.13\00:47:53.80 that we're gonna make it through, 00:47:53.84\00:47:55.47 and that Christ is coming back to get us. 00:47:55.50\00:47:57.07 And all of that is wrapped up in this package 00:47:57.11\00:47:59.87 called the sanctuary. 00:47:59.91\00:48:04.71 The work to be done, the cleansing, the atonement, 00:48:04.75\00:48:09.08 the judgment, all within the sanctuary. 00:48:09.12\00:48:12.55 The heavenly sanctuary needed to be cleansed, 00:48:12.59\00:48:15.12 and we see that from Daniel 8:14. 00:48:15.16\00:48:17.19 What we've got to remember about the sanctuary 00:48:17.23\00:48:19.69 is that we are dealing with the people 00:48:19.73\00:48:22.43 who for the most part were illiterate. 00:48:22.46\00:48:24.83 So when they went to church, they were also going to school. 00:48:24.87\00:48:28.24 Absolutely. 00:48:28.27\00:48:29.60 And God through signs, and symbols, and textures, 00:48:29.64\00:48:32.77 and cloths, and colors 00:48:32.81\00:48:35.11 was teaching them about who He was, 00:48:35.14\00:48:39.81 who they were in Him, their responsibilities to Him, 00:48:39.85\00:48:44.95 and their duties as children of the Lord. 00:48:44.99\00:48:49.09 So the sanctuary is crucial, and as we study the sanctuary, 00:48:49.12\00:48:54.20 one of the things that it does, and you've all touched on it, 00:48:54.23\00:48:56.36 it gives us assurance. 00:48:56.40\00:48:58.30 It gives us assurance that God is working it out 00:48:58.33\00:49:00.70 in our behalf... 00:49:00.74\00:49:02.07 Praise God. 00:49:02.10\00:49:03.44 That Christ's act on the cross was not a static event. 00:49:03.47\00:49:07.31 It's a dynamic event, it ushered in a series of moves 00:49:07.34\00:49:12.51 and things that are going on in heaven now 00:49:12.55\00:49:14.42 that are for our benefit, and that gives us assurance. 00:49:14.45\00:49:19.55 A necessary, intimate, 00:49:19.59\00:49:22.36 inseparable part of the atonement 00:49:22.39\00:49:25.26 is this idea of judgment. 00:49:25.29\00:49:28.46 Sin has been committed, wrongs have been done. 00:49:28.50\00:49:32.27 We got to deal with this, 00:49:32.30\00:49:33.64 we got to get this out of the way 00:49:33.67\00:49:35.20 because God's controversy 00:49:35.24\00:49:36.94 is really not so much with His creation, 00:49:36.97\00:49:40.28 it's with sin. 00:49:40.31\00:49:42.04 And if you love sin, and if you value sin, 00:49:42.08\00:49:47.02 then when sin is dealt with, 00:49:47.05\00:49:49.88 default setting is you're going to get dealt with too. 00:49:49.92\00:49:52.09 You know, you've got... you're the in sin or out. 00:49:52.12\00:49:54.26 I remember... 00:49:54.29\00:49:55.62 I think, it was last week or perhaps a week before, 00:49:55.66\00:49:57.89 this wonderful book, it's no longer in print, 00:49:57.93\00:50:00.03 but you can still get it, 00:50:00.06\00:50:01.60 called Living God's Love by Douglas Cooper. 00:50:01.63\00:50:04.63 Who says basically, sin is a love issue. 00:50:04.67\00:50:08.67 You know, it's who do you love and who do you love more. 00:50:08.70\00:50:11.41 And once you put God first in the love continuum, 00:50:11.44\00:50:16.71 then those decisions will become kind of easy. 00:50:16.75\00:50:21.18 I see a $100 lying on the ground, 00:50:21.22\00:50:23.28 should I take that and put it in my pocket 00:50:23.32\00:50:25.29 and go off and praise the Lord? 00:50:25.32\00:50:26.65 Well, if you if you love God, 00:50:26.69\00:50:28.62 that answer becomes a lot easier. 00:50:28.66\00:50:31.99 You know, stealing, 00:50:32.03\00:50:35.43 the breaking of the commandments. 00:50:35.46\00:50:36.80 If you put God first, 00:50:36.83\00:50:38.23 then those questions resolve themselves 00:50:38.27\00:50:41.10 because I'm putting God first, 00:50:41.14\00:50:42.94 you know, my secretary is flirting with me, 00:50:42.97\00:50:46.24 should I respond 00:50:46.27\00:50:47.71 or should I act like a good Christian husband 00:50:47.74\00:50:49.38 and go home to my wife? 00:50:49.41\00:50:50.91 Well, if I love God first, 00:50:50.95\00:50:53.08 how can I sin and do this great wickedness. 00:50:53.11\00:50:54.88 You know those questions become a lot easier 00:50:54.92\00:50:57.05 when you put God first, 00:50:57.09\00:50:58.59 so you're living God's love, so a necessary, intimate, 00:50:58.62\00:51:02.12 inseparable part of the atonement 00:51:02.16\00:51:04.46 is this idea of judgment 00:51:04.49\00:51:07.26 or the adjudication the settling of accounts 00:51:07.30\00:51:10.60 and dealing with sins, 00:51:10.63\00:51:12.13 so we're living now in this anti-typical 00:51:12.17\00:51:15.64 or cosmic day of atonement, 00:51:15.67\00:51:17.17 and we understand that 00:51:17.21\00:51:20.01 by our understanding of the sanctuary. 00:51:20.04\00:51:23.45 It took place on the 10th day of the 7th month, 00:51:23.48\00:51:27.42 which was October 7th called Tishrei. 00:51:27.45\00:51:29.95 And, you know, it's funny. 00:51:29.98\00:51:31.32 When I was in New York, 00:51:31.35\00:51:32.69 and you have such a large Jewish community in New York, 00:51:32.72\00:51:34.96 on Yom Kippur, Day of Atonement, 00:51:34.99\00:51:37.46 New York City shuts down, 00:51:37.49\00:51:39.19 schools are closed, banks are... 00:51:39.23\00:51:41.56 It's like a bank holiday. 00:51:41.60\00:51:43.06 Things shut down 00:51:43.10\00:51:44.43 because the Jewish community is so large 00:51:44.47\00:51:47.44 that they influence the workings of the city, 00:51:47.47\00:51:50.51 it is called a High Holy Day. 00:51:50.54\00:51:53.07 In fact, the most important day in the Jewish calendar, 00:51:53.11\00:51:57.15 so the work of the high priest typified in the work of Christ 00:51:57.18\00:52:02.62 in the heavenly sanctuary. 00:52:02.65\00:52:04.52 The high priest becomes the main actor on this day. 00:52:04.55\00:52:08.32 During the daily sacrifice, a head of a family comes in, 00:52:08.36\00:52:13.86 he brings a lamb, he confesses the sins of that lamb, 00:52:13.90\00:52:18.73 the jugular slit, the blood is drained. 00:52:18.77\00:52:21.97 Those sins are now transferred symbolically from that person, 00:52:22.00\00:52:25.71 from that family warehoused in the sanctuary. 00:52:25.74\00:52:29.38 And so, spiritually, once a year, 00:52:29.41\00:52:31.58 that sanctuary has got to be cleansed, 00:52:31.61\00:52:33.42 those sins have to be dealt with. 00:52:33.45\00:52:35.82 And so now the main actor is the high priest. 00:52:35.85\00:52:39.89 He goes into the holy place one time 00:52:39.92\00:52:42.19 to deal with those sins. 00:52:42.22\00:52:44.46 Well, they're parallel that we have just seen 00:52:44.49\00:52:46.39 that you've all explained so beautifully 00:52:46.43\00:52:48.40 is what Christ is doing even now. 00:52:48.43\00:52:50.90 We are in that Day of Atonement, 00:52:50.93\00:52:52.93 so we know, among other things, 00:52:52.97\00:52:55.04 we're almost at the end, 00:52:55.07\00:52:56.40 ladies and gentlemen, we're almost at the end 00:52:56.44\00:52:57.77 because when Christ comes out of that sanctuary, 00:52:57.81\00:53:00.68 off come the priestly garments, on go the kingly garments. 00:53:00.71\00:53:04.51 And when He comes back, 00:53:04.55\00:53:05.88 He's coming as King of kings and Lord of lords. 00:53:05.91\00:53:08.22 But right now, He's dealing with those sins. 00:53:08.25\00:53:11.79 He is cleansing the sanctuary. 00:53:11.82\00:53:13.82 And some decision has to be made 00:53:13.86\00:53:16.83 as to who is going to make it when Christ comes. 00:53:16.86\00:53:20.80 He says, "When I come, My reward is with Me." 00:53:20.83\00:53:24.47 So a decision has to be made 00:53:24.50\00:53:25.83 as to who gets that reward and who doesn't. 00:53:25.87\00:53:29.20 So when He comes back, the reward is handed out, 00:53:29.24\00:53:32.11 and of course, that is eternal life. 00:53:32.14\00:53:33.48 So those decisions are being made now. 00:53:33.51\00:53:36.64 And that ought to, as Seventh-day Adventists, 00:53:36.68\00:53:38.91 that ought to inform everything we do. 00:53:38.95\00:53:41.48 We are people of the eschaton. 00:53:41.52\00:53:43.35 In other words, we look at the second coming 00:53:43.39\00:53:45.52 and work our way back. 00:53:45.55\00:53:46.89 We are so close to it, there's no time for playing, 00:53:46.92\00:53:49.36 there's no time for laughing, there's no time for jesting, 00:53:49.39\00:53:52.59 there's no time for not being serious with God 00:53:52.63\00:53:56.67 because we are right, 00:53:56.70\00:53:58.60 as you intimated a couple weeks ago, Shelley, 00:53:58.63\00:54:00.94 in the toes of the image, as it were, 00:54:00.97\00:54:03.24 but Christ is getting ready to come out of that sanctuary 00:54:03.27\00:54:05.57 and bring His reward. 00:54:05.61\00:54:06.94 And we, as the people of God, 00:54:06.98\00:54:08.31 must be ready for that grand and glorious day. 00:54:08.34\00:54:13.01 I had a professor once say, 00:54:13.05\00:54:15.28 "Really, this salvation thing is awfully simple 00:54:15.32\00:54:17.95 when you study it, 00:54:17.99\00:54:19.32 simply awful if you don't get it." 00:54:19.35\00:54:20.69 You know what I mean? 00:54:20.72\00:54:23.26 And that's really the way it is. 00:54:23.29\00:54:25.19 This sanctuary shows us where we are, 00:54:25.23\00:54:28.06 shows us what Christ is doing. 00:54:28.10\00:54:30.63 His death on the cross opened up, 00:54:30.67\00:54:32.90 as you so well in telling, Jill, 00:54:32.93\00:54:34.87 a ministry of intercession for us 00:54:34.90\00:54:37.24 which will go on till the day we see Christ face to face. 00:54:37.27\00:54:41.04 And thank God Christ is working it out 00:54:41.08\00:54:43.71 in our behalf in the kingdom, in the sanctuary 00:54:43.75\00:54:47.25 even as we speak, before He comes, 00:54:47.28\00:54:50.85 "He that is just will be just still, 00:54:50.89\00:54:52.92 he that is holy will be holy still. 00:54:52.95\00:54:54.89 He that is unholy will be unholy still." 00:54:54.92\00:54:58.49 It is my prayer and I notice 00:54:58.53\00:55:00.46 the prayer of everyone here on this panel 00:55:00.50\00:55:02.26 and hopefully the prayer of everyone who is watching, 00:55:02.30\00:55:04.60 listening, that you will make your, 00:55:04.63\00:55:07.90 we say, calling and election sure, 00:55:07.94\00:55:10.47 make your life right with Christ, 00:55:10.51\00:55:14.48 surrender to Christ so that when He comes back, 00:55:14.51\00:55:17.08 you'll be a part of that kingdom 00:55:17.11\00:55:18.45 and in that number. 00:55:18.48\00:55:19.81 Wow. Amen. 00:55:19.85\00:55:21.18 You know, I just have to say this, 00:55:21.22\00:55:22.62 it was when the Lord took me to a study of the sanctuary, 00:55:22.65\00:55:29.22 this is when I understood, for the first time in my life, 00:55:29.26\00:55:33.56 salvation by grace through faith. 00:55:33.60\00:55:35.60 We have only touched on this. 00:55:35.63\00:55:38.40 We've talked about Jesus Christ as the supreme sacrifice, 00:55:38.43\00:55:43.41 as the Lamb of God 00:55:43.44\00:55:45.97 which is the sanctuary language. 00:55:46.01\00:55:48.61 We've talked about Him as our high priest. 00:55:48.64\00:55:51.65 And the high priest had to be the one to apply the blood 00:55:51.68\00:55:55.78 in the holy place to do this cleansing. 00:55:55.82\00:55:58.89 We've talked about Him as our intercessor, 00:55:58.92\00:56:02.69 as the one who is, as the Bible says, 00:56:02.72\00:56:06.26 the only mediator between us and God 00:56:06.29\00:56:10.03 and then the Day of Atonement. 00:56:10.07\00:56:12.17 I want to encourage you at home, if you have... 00:56:12.20\00:56:16.30 Perhaps, if you're a Seventh-day Adventist, 00:56:16.34\00:56:19.47 you may be somewhat familiar with this, 00:56:19.51\00:56:22.24 the whole sanctuary system. 00:56:22.28\00:56:23.95 I want you to look at it again through the eyes of grace, 00:56:23.98\00:56:28.35 through the lens of grace, study the sanctuary. 00:56:28.38\00:56:31.85 If you are not a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, 00:56:31.89\00:56:34.79 perhaps you're a Christian from another denomination, 00:56:34.82\00:56:37.76 or perhaps you're yet to be a Christian, 00:56:37.79\00:56:41.16 if you will look at the sanctuary system, 00:56:41.20\00:56:44.37 look for Christ, 00:56:44.40\00:56:45.97 He was the central theme of the sanctuary system, 00:56:46.00\00:56:50.51 and this how we understand not only 00:56:50.54\00:56:54.44 how He was our substitute 00:56:54.48\00:56:57.51 but how He is our surety, 00:56:57.55\00:57:00.68 the one who is able to save to the uttermost. 00:57:00.72\00:57:04.22 Well, I just want to thank Mollie, Greg, Jill, and CA, 00:57:04.25\00:57:08.99 and we want to thank you, please join us again next time. 00:57:09.02\00:57:12.56 This is such an exciting... 00:57:12.59\00:57:14.40 As we study Preparation for the End Time, 00:57:14.43\00:57:18.37 our prayer for you is that 00:57:18.40\00:57:19.73 the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, 00:57:19.77\00:57:21.80 the love of the Father, 00:57:21.84\00:57:23.17 and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit 00:57:23.20\00:57:24.57 will be with you always. 00:57:24.61\00:57:26.57 Thanks for joining us. 00:57:26.61\00:57:27.94
