Yeah. 00:04:23.89\00:04:26.90 Anyone know what this is? Let me show you this way. 00:04:26.93\00:04:29.00 That's a tennis shoe. Yeah, it's a tennis shoe. 00:04:29.03\00:04:31.27 We know that, what that symbol is? 00:04:31.30\00:04:33.64 That's Nike. 00:04:33.67\00:04:35.00 That's a word for overcomer in the Greek, Nike. 00:04:35.04\00:04:38.44 Nike, it is Nike. 00:04:38.47\00:04:40.31 Nike was the Greek god of victory and overcoming. 00:04:40.34\00:04:46.61 In Rome, in Latin, it's Victoria. 00:04:46.65\00:04:50.62 But in Greek, it's Nike. 00:04:50.65\00:04:52.25 She was the god of overcoming, a winged goddess. 00:04:52.29\00:04:56.42 And, so that was used for overcoming. 00:04:56.46\00:04:59.59 So other words therein, 00:04:59.63\00:05:03.26 to subdue, to vanquish a foe, 00:05:03.30\00:05:08.40 not only was she the success, 00:05:08.44\00:05:10.54 she was also the means of success, 00:05:10.57\00:05:12.84 and the primary root is Nike. 00:05:12.87\00:05:15.74 Very, very curious. 00:05:15.78\00:05:18.15 Pronounced Nike. 00:05:18.18\00:05:19.95 But when you bring it into the English, 00:05:19.98\00:05:21.52 Nike becomes Nike, 00:05:21.55\00:05:22.88 it's N-I-K-E, or if I, Nike. 00:05:22.92\00:05:26.76 I thought that was very, very curious. 00:05:26.79\00:05:28.36 So to those who are overcomers... 00:05:28.39\00:05:32.76 We see this in the Book of Revelation, 00:05:32.79\00:05:34.20 there is much that is promised, 00:05:34.23\00:05:36.06 and also there is promise in the Book of Revelation, 00:05:36.10\00:05:38.47 the means for overcoming, 00:05:38.50\00:05:40.00 not only what you get when you overcome. 00:05:40.04\00:05:42.94 I'm so glad that God doesn't say, 00:05:42.97\00:05:44.81 "Do that, and you're on your own to do that." 00:05:44.84\00:05:47.51 He gives us the ability, 00:05:47.54\00:05:49.04 the right to become sons of God. 00:05:49.08\00:05:50.85 He helps us to do what He calls us to do. 00:05:50.88\00:05:53.31 He equips you when He calls you to do. 00:05:53.35\00:05:56.08 So we move now into the study of the lesson. 00:05:56.12\00:06:02.36 What I thought was interesting in looking at Revelation, 00:06:02.39\00:06:05.06 looking at the New Testament, 00:06:05.09\00:06:06.59 in looking at the crucial aspects 00:06:06.63\00:06:09.30 of Old and New Testament, 00:06:09.33\00:06:10.83 33% of the New Testament comes from the Old. 00:06:10.87\00:06:15.07 It's a great amount. 00:06:15.10\00:06:17.21 Some books go as high, 00:06:17.24\00:06:18.71 Hebrews, 69% of Hebrews is Old Testament. 00:06:18.74\00:06:22.41 1 Peter, 69% of Peter is Old Testament. 00:06:22.44\00:06:26.21 Jude, 68% of Jude is Old Testament. 00:06:26.25\00:06:31.85 Most of the books except for just a couple are over 10%. 00:06:31.89\00:06:34.76 So when we talk about the Old Testament and the New, 00:06:34.79\00:06:38.56 the New Testament is just an exposition of, 00:06:38.59\00:06:42.06 a revelation of what was happening in the Old. 00:06:42.10\00:06:45.90 We don't jettison the Old in favor of the New 00:06:45.93\00:06:50.11 because the New is built 00:06:50.14\00:06:51.47 on a foundation of the Old Testament. 00:06:51.51\00:06:53.71 And when quotes were made in the New Testament, 00:06:53.74\00:06:56.21 they were quoting from the Old Testament. 00:06:56.24\00:07:00.02 There are 850 direct quotes 00:07:00.05\00:07:01.92 in the New Testament from the Old Testament. 00:07:01.95\00:07:04.09 And I thought this was interesting... 00:07:04.12\00:07:05.49 Matthew has 96 direct quotes, these are direct quotes. 00:07:05.52\00:07:09.06 Romans, 74 direct quotes, Hebrews, 86 direct quotes, 00:07:09.09\00:07:13.53 Revelation, 249 direct quotes, 00:07:13.56\00:07:17.60 150% of Revelation is from the Old Testament. 00:07:17.63\00:07:20.60 How do you get 150%? 00:07:20.64\00:07:22.37 Because sometimes it quotes twice. 00:07:22.40\00:07:25.84 It takes the same quote 00:07:25.87\00:07:27.21 or it quotes twice in the same text. 00:07:27.24\00:07:29.04 So when we look at Revelation, it's not brand new, 00:07:29.08\00:07:32.35 it's not something hidden, 00:07:32.38\00:07:33.72 it is just a Revelation of Jesus Christ 00:07:33.75\00:07:35.62 who is throughout the whole Bible. 00:07:35.65\00:07:37.49 And when Christ taught Cleopas 00:07:37.52\00:07:41.22 and his friend on the road to Emmaus, 00:07:41.26\00:07:44.49 the Bible says he started at Moses 00:07:44.53\00:07:46.56 and went through the prophets. 00:07:46.59\00:07:48.83 He was teaching them from the Old Testament, 00:07:48.86\00:07:51.37 He was teaching them from the Bible 00:07:51.40\00:07:52.73 that He knew which was the Old Testament. 00:07:52.77\00:07:57.14 So you cannot separate one from the other. 00:07:57.17\00:08:00.61 The New Testament simply finishes 00:08:00.64\00:08:03.35 what the Old Testament begins and pulls it all together. 00:08:03.38\00:08:06.58 And the lesson says, 00:08:06.61\00:08:09.38 the same thing can be said for the Book of Revelation. 00:08:09.42\00:08:12.29 Of all books, it is the one that really spends 00:08:12.32\00:08:14.99 a lot of time bringing Old Testament 00:08:15.02\00:08:17.36 things to fruition and to fulfillment. 00:08:17.39\00:08:19.59 And as we saw in the last couple of weeks, 00:08:19.63\00:08:21.46 certainly the Book of Daniel, 00:08:21.50\00:08:22.90 you cannot really answer all of the questions 00:08:22.93\00:08:26.03 in the Book of Daniel 00:08:26.07\00:08:27.40 until you peg it and tie it to Revelation, 00:08:27.44\00:08:31.17 and it makes a nice tight package of understanding 00:08:31.21\00:08:34.54 when you put them both together. 00:08:34.58\00:08:38.15 On Sunday's lesson, we are talking about 00:08:38.18\00:08:42.95 the structure of the Book of Revelation. 00:08:42.98\00:08:45.85 The lesson is asked 00:08:49.22\00:08:50.56 or the lesson asked the question... 00:08:50.59\00:08:54.30 In the verses that we have, in 1 Corinthians 10:1-11. 00:08:54.33\00:08:58.40 We're not going to read them all. 00:08:58.43\00:09:00.74 How do we see the principles talked about 00:09:00.77\00:09:03.07 that we talked about from above? 00:09:03.10\00:09:05.27 And in that text, there is... 00:09:05.31\00:09:09.08 In those scriptures, there is this part that says 00:09:09.11\00:09:11.81 those things which are written 00:09:11.85\00:09:13.18 are written for examples for us. 00:09:13.21\00:09:16.05 So the Old Testament and the New Testament 00:09:16.08\00:09:19.65 are written for examples for our learning, 00:09:19.69\00:09:22.72 for our teaching, for affirmation, 00:09:22.76\00:09:24.56 and for our conduct. 00:09:24.59\00:09:28.16 They are written so that God's people will know what to do. 00:09:28.20\00:09:32.00 And I remember, we had this discussion once, Shelley, 00:09:32.03\00:09:35.54 that unless you are spending considerable time 00:09:35.57\00:09:38.44 in the Word of God, Old Testament and New, 00:09:38.47\00:09:40.64 you don't even know what promises to claim. 00:09:40.68\00:09:42.98 You know, it's like you have this bank account, 00:09:43.01\00:09:44.71 and you don't have a PIN number, 00:09:44.75\00:09:46.08 it's the money sitting there but you don't have access 00:09:46.11\00:09:48.58 because you don't know that you have this account. 00:09:48.62\00:09:51.09 So you can't even claim the promises 00:09:51.12\00:09:54.52 unless you know the promises. 00:09:54.56\00:09:56.22 And a lot of those promises start at the Old 00:09:56.26\00:09:59.09 and are reiterated in the New. 00:09:59.13\00:10:00.80 They're not brand new in the New, 00:10:00.83\00:10:02.23 they're reiterated over. 00:10:02.26\00:10:03.60 When you look at Hebrews 13:5 and 6, 00:10:03.63\00:10:06.03 and the Lord says, 00:10:06.07\00:10:08.67 "I will never leave you nor forsake you," 00:10:08.70\00:10:10.71 that's a direct quote from Joshua 1:9. 00:10:10.74\00:10:13.04 It's not brand new in Hebrews, that's an age old quote. 00:10:13.07\00:10:16.44 So a lot of the things that are in the Old 00:10:16.48\00:10:19.01 are reiterated in the New, 00:10:19.05\00:10:20.75 and it's important for God's people to study Old and New 00:10:20.78\00:10:23.49 so that they can be well rounded and balanced, 00:10:23.52\00:10:26.25 and they can know what promises to claim 00:10:26.29\00:10:28.52 and know the wealth of spiritual gold 00:10:28.56\00:10:31.79 that they have and lay access to that goal, 00:10:31.83\00:10:34.56 so that they can be prepared to serve the Lord in peace. 00:10:34.60\00:10:37.70 Let me read something here that I found very interesting. 00:10:37.73\00:10:40.77 As we found last week, some of the stories in Daniel 00:10:40.80\00:10:45.34 were localized, historical incidents 00:10:45.37\00:10:47.28 that reflect somewhat the end time events 00:10:47.31\00:10:50.01 depicted in Revelation. 00:10:50.05\00:10:51.38 And that was one of the days 00:10:51.41\00:10:52.75 that I had that we look at the drama and trauma 00:10:52.78\00:10:57.19 as I said of the Hebrew worthies 00:10:57.22\00:10:59.49 and Daniel there in Babylon. 00:10:59.52\00:11:02.66 But it gives us somewhat of an idea of the kinds of things 00:11:02.69\00:11:05.39 that God's people will have to traverse in the last days 00:11:05.43\00:11:08.56 as we come down to the last days of history. 00:11:08.60\00:11:12.43 We are all going to be called to stand. 00:11:12.47\00:11:15.30 You know, I question myself on this, 00:11:15.34\00:11:17.67 the idea that I'm going to have 00:11:17.71\00:11:20.78 to give an account for the faith that I have, 00:11:20.81\00:11:23.65 not only with my words or with my deeds. 00:11:23.68\00:11:27.98 Those things that I hold dear, 00:11:28.02\00:11:29.75 those things that I believe in God, 00:11:29.78\00:11:31.55 I'm going to have to articulate in word 00:11:31.59\00:11:33.82 and deed before Christ comes. 00:11:33.86\00:11:35.69 My belief systems are going to be tested. 00:11:35.72\00:11:38.73 My walk with Christ is going to be tested. 00:11:38.76\00:11:41.46 My love for Jesus is going to be tested. 00:11:41.50\00:11:43.93 And as it is with me so it will be with all of you, 00:11:43.97\00:11:46.97 and all of those who name the name of Jesus. 00:11:47.00\00:11:50.34 Years ago, I had a teacher, said, 00:11:50.37\00:11:51.94 "You're not going to heaven on roller skates, 00:11:51.97\00:11:53.98 you're going on your knees." 00:11:54.01\00:11:55.44 And what he was saying is that 00:11:55.48\00:11:57.38 all of us who have to pray 00:11:57.41\00:11:58.75 our way in and then stand up and walk with Jesus. 00:11:58.78\00:12:01.12 There is no pass on trial, 00:12:01.15\00:12:03.39 there is no pass on tribulation. 00:12:03.42\00:12:05.05 In fact, it is through trial, and testing, 00:12:05.09\00:12:07.39 and tribulation that our faith is made strong, 00:12:07.42\00:12:09.86 and this is affirmed in the Old Testament, 00:12:09.89\00:12:12.16 reaffirmed in the New. 00:12:12.19\00:12:13.60 And my time is running very quickly, 00:12:13.63\00:12:16.06 just a couple more things. 00:12:16.10\00:12:17.43 When we read Revelation 12:1-17, 00:12:21.74\00:12:26.68 the lesson asked the question, 00:12:26.71\00:12:28.04 "Is it historical or is it apocalyptic?" 00:12:28.08\00:12:30.58 Because, of course, Revelation is divided 00:12:30.61\00:12:33.21 into historical sections and apocalyptic sections, 00:12:33.25\00:12:36.08 as is the Book of Daniel. 00:12:36.12\00:12:37.89 I see it personally as a bridge chapter 00:12:37.92\00:12:40.52 containing some of both elements. 00:12:40.56\00:12:43.63 It is a part apocalyptic, so it is symbolic. 00:12:43.66\00:12:47.80 But it is also historical 00:12:47.83\00:12:49.26 because there was war in heaven, 00:12:49.30\00:12:51.33 and Satan was cast out to this earth, 00:12:51.37\00:12:53.70 and he did tempt God's people, 00:12:53.74\00:12:56.40 and he was ultimately responsible 00:12:56.44\00:12:58.21 for the death of the Son of God, 00:12:58.24\00:13:00.01 and the persecution of the Latter-day Saints. 00:13:00.04\00:13:02.31 This is all very, very real. 00:13:02.34\00:13:05.21 And so we have this bridge chapter, 00:13:05.25\00:13:07.18 and then we move into 13, 00:13:07.22\00:13:08.95 historical, move into 14 which is, 00:13:08.98\00:13:12.89 to me, the pinnacle of Revelation 00:13:12.92\00:13:14.79 when you get to the messages of those three angels. 00:13:14.82\00:13:18.49 But they are... 00:13:18.53\00:13:20.93 There are historical sections, 00:13:20.96\00:13:22.60 and there are apocalyptic sections, 00:13:22.63\00:13:24.30 and together they weave a picture of where we are, 00:13:24.33\00:13:27.24 and where we are going, and how we are to get there. 00:13:27.27\00:13:29.67 Last question, then I'm done. 00:13:29.70\00:13:33.38 The lesson says, we seem 00:13:33.41\00:13:35.31 to keep repeating ourselves in history. 00:13:35.34\00:13:37.88 What can we do as a people of God 00:13:37.91\00:13:40.42 so that we don't continue to make the same mistakes 00:13:40.45\00:13:43.39 that our forefathers made. 00:13:43.42\00:13:45.15 It occurs to me that we need to stop often 00:13:45.19\00:13:48.52 on the road to heaven, 00:13:48.56\00:13:50.16 and look over our shoulder and see from whence we've come. 00:13:50.19\00:13:53.90 God does not call us to live in the past. 00:13:53.93\00:13:56.10 In fact, that's dangerous to spend too much time 00:13:56.13\00:13:58.27 looking over your shoulder when you're going forward, 00:13:58.30\00:14:00.50 that's how you have an accident. 00:14:00.54\00:14:02.07 But you don't want to forget about the past. 00:14:02.10\00:14:04.44 To my mind, the only thing 00:14:04.47\00:14:05.81 worse than nostalgia is amnesia. 00:14:05.84\00:14:10.55 You don't want to forget about the past, 00:14:10.58\00:14:13.45 but you don't want to live in the past. 00:14:13.48\00:14:15.18 And, of course, Ellen White says, 00:14:15.22\00:14:16.55 the only thing we have to fear for the future 00:14:16.58\00:14:18.42 is that we forget God's leading in our past history. 00:14:18.45\00:14:21.89 So the secret to moving forward 00:14:21.92\00:14:23.93 is to know where you are in the span of time, 00:14:23.96\00:14:27.40 to know where you're going, 00:14:27.43\00:14:29.23 and to focus on that, and keep focused on that, 00:14:29.26\00:14:32.33 and that will allow you to traverse the bumps and nicks 00:14:32.37\00:14:36.44 and other things that come to every Christian 00:14:36.47\00:14:39.04 as we walk the road that leads to glory, Mollie. 00:14:39.07\00:14:41.54 Amen, and amen. 00:14:41.58\00:14:43.11 I'm going to give a quote from your lesson, 00:14:43.14\00:14:46.92 and it's about history. 00:14:46.95\00:14:49.02 It says, "One of the lessons we learn from history 00:14:49.05\00:14:52.39 is that we never learn from history." 00:14:52.42\00:14:54.92 And that's a pitfall. 00:14:54.96\00:14:57.06 We need to learn from history. 00:14:57.09\00:14:59.43 I have Monday, and it's images of Jesus. 00:14:59.46\00:15:03.93 And our lesson this week is Jesus 00:15:03.97\00:15:06.84 in the Book of Revelation. 00:15:06.87\00:15:08.37 So I hope you're in the Book of Revelation. 00:15:08.40\00:15:11.27 Excuse me. 00:15:11.31\00:15:12.64 We are going to look at images of Jesus 00:15:12.67\00:15:16.34 in the Book of Revelation. 00:15:16.38\00:15:18.25 Scripture in the Book of Revelation 00:15:18.28\00:15:21.08 that gives us a description of Jesus, 00:15:21.12\00:15:23.75 what He has done, is doing, and will do, 00:15:23.79\00:15:28.52 these are scriptures that teaches about Jesus. 00:15:28.56\00:15:31.59 So I'm going to run through some scriptures, 00:15:31.63\00:15:34.00 and then I'm going to do what Jill Morikone does. 00:15:34.03\00:15:37.10 I'm going to give you four points, 00:15:37.13\00:15:39.47 point one, point two, point three, and point four. 00:15:39.50\00:15:42.30 That way, I think, we'll hold on to it. 00:15:42.34\00:15:44.17 But let's look in Revelation 1. 00:15:44.21\00:15:47.58 Again, images of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:15:47.61\00:15:51.48 You know, CA, something you said 00:15:51.51\00:15:53.98 was that Jesus is throughout the scriptures, 00:15:54.02\00:15:59.72 Old Testament and New Testament. 00:15:59.75\00:16:03.02 And these images in the Book of Revelation 00:16:03.06\00:16:06.93 are sharp clear images. 00:16:06.96\00:16:08.93 Excuse me, just a moment. 00:16:08.96\00:16:10.30 So I've got you, in Revelation 1:4 through 5. 00:16:13.70\00:16:18.24 "John, to the seven churches which are in Asia, 00:16:18.27\00:16:21.41 grace to you and peace from Him who is, and who was, 00:16:21.44\00:16:26.15 and who is to come." 00:16:26.18\00:16:27.75 Who is, who was, and is to come. 00:16:27.78\00:16:31.35 "And from the seven Spirits who are before His throne 00:16:31.39\00:16:34.76 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness." 00:16:34.79\00:16:37.43 Faithful, write that word down 00:16:37.46\00:16:39.39 because that's a word you're going to hear 00:16:39.43\00:16:41.56 repeated many times in these images of Jesus. 00:16:41.60\00:16:45.63 "The firstborn from the dead," he's what? 00:16:45.67\00:16:48.40 The firstborn from the dead. 00:16:48.44\00:16:50.07 "And the ruler over the kings of the earth. 00:16:50.11\00:16:53.11 To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins," in what? 00:16:53.14\00:16:58.61 "In His own blood." He's the spotless lamb. 00:16:58.65\00:17:02.08 Okay, this is something that Jesus says about Himself. 00:17:02.12\00:17:06.45 This is in Revelation 1:18. 00:17:06.49\00:17:10.93 "I am He who lives," that was before the cross, 00:17:10.96\00:17:16.13 "and was dead," where did He die? 00:17:16.16\00:17:18.37 At the cross. 00:17:18.40\00:17:19.77 "And behold, I am alive for evermore," after the cross. 00:17:19.80\00:17:24.57 Amen. 00:17:24.61\00:17:25.94 And Jesus says about Himself, 00:17:25.97\00:17:28.04 "I have the keys of Hades and of death." 00:17:28.08\00:17:32.35 Okay, now we're going to go to Revelation 5, 00:17:32.38\00:17:35.75 and we're going to look at verses, 00:17:35.78\00:17:38.02 starting with verse 1. 00:17:38.05\00:17:39.55 But let me, kind of, give you a little setting here. 00:17:39.59\00:17:42.96 John was on the aisle of Patmos. 00:17:42.99\00:17:46.16 Okay. 00:17:46.19\00:17:47.53 And the scripture says 00:17:47.56\00:17:49.13 that while John was on the Isle of Patmos, 00:17:49.16\00:17:52.13 a voice came to him, and the voice said, 00:17:52.17\00:17:55.74 "Come up, hither, 00:17:55.77\00:17:57.31 and I will show you what must take place." 00:17:57.34\00:18:00.68 And it says that immediately, John went into the spirit. 00:18:00.71\00:18:05.48 Now this is what John says that he saw. 00:18:05.51\00:18:08.88 "And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne." 00:18:08.92\00:18:13.36 Now as he went into the spirit, he went before a throne, 00:18:13.39\00:18:17.33 a scroll written inside and on the back, 00:18:17.36\00:18:20.83 sealed with seven seals. 00:18:20.86\00:18:22.96 "Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, 00:18:23.00\00:18:27.14 'Who is worthy to open the scroll 00:18:27.17\00:18:29.90 and to loose the seals? 00:18:29.94\00:18:32.07 And no one in heaven, or on the earth, 00:18:32.11\00:18:34.34 or under the earth was able to open the scroll 00:18:34.38\00:18:37.38 or to look at it. 00:18:37.41\00:18:39.18 So while I wept much 00:18:39.21\00:18:41.32 because no one was found worthy to open 00:18:41.35\00:18:44.62 and read the scroll or to look at it. 00:18:44.65\00:18:47.32 But one of the elder said to me, "Do not weep. 00:18:47.36\00:18:50.96 Behold, the lion of the tribe of Judah, 00:18:50.99\00:18:54.86 the root of David has prevailed to open the scroll 00:18:54.90\00:19:00.00 and to loose its seals. 00:19:00.04\00:19:01.64 And I looked and behold, in the midst of the throne 00:19:01.67\00:19:05.97 and of the four living creatures 00:19:06.01\00:19:07.48 and in the midst of the elders, stood," what? 00:19:07.51\00:19:10.15 "Stood a lamb as though it had been slain." 00:19:10.18\00:19:13.45 Who are we talking about here? Jesus. 00:19:13.48\00:19:15.55 The lamb that has been slain, 00:19:15.58\00:19:17.42 the lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David. 00:19:17.45\00:19:20.66 "Then he came and took the scroll 00:19:20.69\00:19:23.16 out of the right hand of Him who sit on the throne." 00:19:23.19\00:19:26.70 And now, let's go on to verses 8 and 9. 00:19:26.73\00:19:32.10 Now when He had taken the scroll, 00:19:32.13\00:19:34.70 the four living creatures 00:19:34.74\00:19:36.30 and the twenty four elders fell down before," what? 00:19:36.34\00:19:40.38 "Before the lamb, each having a heart and golden bowls 00:19:40.41\00:19:44.61 full of incense which are of the prayers of the saints. 00:19:44.65\00:19:48.18 And they sang a new song saying, 00:19:48.22\00:19:50.59 'You are worthy to take the scroll 00:19:50.62\00:19:52.99 and to open its seals, 00:19:53.02\00:19:54.76 for you were slain and have redeemed us to God 00:19:54.79\00:19:58.23 by your blood out of every tribe, 00:19:58.26\00:20:02.70 and tongue, and people, and nation,'" out of what? 00:20:02.73\00:20:06.30 Every tribe, and tongue, and peoples, and nation. 00:20:06.33\00:20:10.04 You know what this is telling us. 00:20:10.07\00:20:11.74 Salvation through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ 00:20:11.77\00:20:15.28 is an exclusive. 00:20:15.31\00:20:17.18 It doesn't just belong to one group. 00:20:17.21\00:20:19.15 Who does it belong? 00:20:19.18\00:20:20.52 It's all inclusive, it's not by race, it's by... 00:20:20.55\00:20:24.32 Grace. Let's hear it. It's by grace. 00:20:24.35\00:20:26.76 It's all inclusive, 00:20:26.79\00:20:28.29 every tongue, and nation, and peoples. 00:20:28.32\00:20:32.36 Okay, now let's go to Revelation 19. 00:20:32.39\00:20:35.96 We're going to look at verses 11 through 15. 00:20:36.00\00:20:40.64 Revelation 19:11-15. 00:20:40.67\00:20:44.41 And remember that word I said to write down 00:20:44.44\00:20:46.71 that you're going to hear. 00:20:46.74\00:20:48.48 Faithful. 00:20:48.51\00:20:50.41 "Now I saw heaven opened. 00:20:50.45\00:20:52.41 And behold, a white horse, 00:20:52.45\00:20:55.02 and He who sat on him was called faithful and true, 00:20:55.05\00:21:01.32 and in righteousness, He judges and makes war." 00:21:01.36\00:21:04.26 Now remember, these are images of Jesus in Revelation. 00:21:04.29\00:21:08.06 We see several images. 00:21:08.10\00:21:10.30 He's a lamb that was slain. 00:21:10.33\00:21:12.27 but here it says that He judges and makes war. 00:21:12.30\00:21:17.07 His eyes were like a flame of fire, 00:21:17.11\00:21:19.54 and on his head were many crowns, 00:21:19.57\00:21:21.51 He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 00:21:21.54\00:21:25.75 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood. 00:21:25.78\00:21:29.78 And His name is called the Word of God," 00:21:29.82\00:21:32.15 in the beginning was the Word, 00:21:32.19\00:21:33.52 and the Word was with God, and Word was God, 00:21:33.56\00:21:37.43 "called the Word of God 00:21:37.46\00:21:38.89 and the armies in heaven clothed in fine linen, 00:21:38.93\00:21:41.93 white and clean followed Him on white horses. 00:21:41.96\00:21:45.70 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword that with it, 00:21:45.73\00:21:49.34 He should strike the nations, 00:21:49.37\00:21:51.14 and He himself will rule them with a rod of iron. 00:21:51.17\00:21:55.21 He himself treads the winepress 00:21:55.24\00:21:58.91 of the fierceness of wrath of Almighty God." 00:21:58.95\00:22:02.08 Now remember, where is John? 00:22:02.12\00:22:04.35 He's on the Isle of Patmos, he's in the spirit, 00:22:04.39\00:22:08.02 and when he went in the spirit, he came before a throne. 00:22:08.06\00:22:12.59 And we've been reading about this one 00:22:12.63\00:22:14.53 that is sitting on the throne, 00:22:14.56\00:22:16.70 our memory verse says, "To him who sits on the throne, 00:22:16.73\00:22:21.67 He says 'I will make you to be victorious.'" 00:22:21.70\00:22:25.67 I think that word was Nike, make us victorious, 00:22:25.71\00:22:29.74 overcomers if we are faithful. 00:22:29.78\00:22:32.88 And He will make us to sit on the throne, 00:22:32.91\00:22:36.42 do you know what? 00:22:36.45\00:22:37.79 We get to reign with Him. Okay. 00:22:37.82\00:22:41.89 So the one that is sitting on the throne 00:22:41.92\00:22:44.36 now looks to John and He speaks to John. 00:22:44.39\00:22:47.86 Revelation 21:5 through 7, "Then He who sat on the throne 00:22:47.90\00:22:53.07 said, 'Behold, I make all things new,' 00:22:53.10\00:22:56.27 and He said to me." 00:22:56.30\00:22:57.64 John is saying this. 00:22:57.67\00:22:59.01 "And He said to me, 'Write, for these words are true'", 00:22:59.04\00:23:01.94 and there's that word, "Faithful. 00:23:01.98\00:23:04.21 And He said to me, 'It is done. 00:23:04.25\00:23:06.31 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. 00:23:06.35\00:23:10.29 And I will give up the fountain of the water of life 00:23:10.32\00:23:13.42 freely to him who thirsts. 00:23:13.46\00:23:16.26 He who overcomes shell inherit all things. 00:23:16.29\00:23:19.69 And I will be his God and he shall be my son.'" 00:23:19.73\00:23:23.70 Now, let's recap. 00:23:23.73\00:23:25.87 Number one, He is the lamb 00:23:25.90\00:23:28.70 which points to His first coming. 00:23:28.74\00:23:31.67 Do you know what? He came voluntarily. 00:23:31.71\00:23:35.51 Nobody forced Him to, He came because He wanted to, 00:23:35.54\00:23:40.32 and He knew His end, did He not? 00:23:40.35\00:23:42.78 He was the Lamb, 00:23:42.82\00:23:45.19 slain from the foundation for you and me. 00:23:45.22\00:23:48.26 Number two, He was dead, 00:23:48.29\00:23:51.03 He suffered a cruel and painful death on Calvary. 00:23:51.06\00:23:54.76 Do you remember the scribes and Pharisees 00:23:54.80\00:23:56.77 and those that were passing by? 00:23:56.80\00:23:58.53 They were mocking Him. You know what they said to him? 00:23:58.57\00:24:01.60 They said, "If you be the Son of God, 00:24:01.64\00:24:04.74 come down off that cross." 00:24:04.77\00:24:06.27 And you know what? He didn't say a word. 00:24:06.31\00:24:08.21 But it was this. 00:24:08.24\00:24:09.58 Though in His silence, He said, 00:24:09.61\00:24:11.68 "You just wait till Sunday morning." 00:24:11.71\00:24:13.82 You're going to find out it's better to come down off 00:24:13.85\00:24:16.55 of a cross than to come up out of a grave, 00:24:16.58\00:24:18.99 There in is our victory. 00:24:19.02\00:24:20.86 He didn't have to come down off of that cross, 00:24:20.89\00:24:23.32 He was resurrected in newness of life. 00:24:23.36\00:24:26.66 Yet, number three, 00:24:26.70\00:24:29.00 yet, He is alive for evermore, he arose. 00:24:29.03\00:24:32.93 He is the King of kings, He is the Lord of lords. 00:24:32.97\00:24:35.77 He is seated where? 00:24:35.80\00:24:37.47 At the right hand of the Father. 00:24:37.51\00:24:39.04 What's He doing? 00:24:39.07\00:24:40.41 Forever making intercession for us. 00:24:40.44\00:24:43.04 He's the lamb, He was dead, He is resurrected, 00:24:43.08\00:24:46.75 and now He's at the right hand of the Father, 00:24:46.78\00:24:50.25 and He's praying for you and for me. 00:24:50.29\00:24:52.25 There's some images of our Lord and Savior. 00:24:52.29\00:24:55.06 Amen. 00:24:55.09\00:24:56.42 Thank you, Mollie, it's very good. 00:24:56.46\00:24:58.86 Tuesday's lesson is the sanctuary motive in Revelation. 00:24:58.89\00:25:03.87 And as CA brought out, 00:25:03.90\00:25:05.70 the Book of Revelation has two major divisions, 00:25:05.73\00:25:08.34 the historical and the apocalyptical. 00:25:08.37\00:25:11.77 But there's another structural layer, 00:25:11.81\00:25:14.64 and that is the sanctuary motive. 00:25:14.68\00:25:18.11 This is built around the sanctuary, 00:25:18.15\00:25:19.98 and that goes through both of the divisions of Revelation. 00:25:20.02\00:25:24.12 Let me just quickly do a sanctuary primary. 00:25:24.15\00:25:28.09 In Exodus 25, God said to His people, He told Moses, 00:25:28.12\00:25:32.09 "Let them build me a sanctuary that I might dwell among them." 00:25:32.13\00:25:35.50 And He tells Moses to build according to the pattern 00:25:35.53\00:25:38.40 that He is going to show him. 00:25:38.43\00:25:41.47 And just like He gave Noah instructions 00:25:41.50\00:25:44.37 how to build the ark, 00:25:44.41\00:25:45.74 He gave Moses instructions how to build the tabernacle. 00:25:45.77\00:25:49.11 Hebrews 8:5 says that this sanctuary is just 00:25:49.14\00:25:52.88 a copy and shadow of that which was in heaven. 00:25:52.91\00:25:58.45 Hebrews 9:24 said that Jesus has not entered 00:25:58.49\00:26:04.53 into the sanctuary made with human hands, 00:26:04.56\00:26:07.10 referring to what was made on earth, but that... 00:26:07.13\00:26:12.13 And again, it says only a copy and pattern 00:26:12.17\00:26:15.00 and type of the true one that's in heaven. 00:26:15.04\00:26:18.67 But he says, He entered into heaven itself. 00:26:18.71\00:26:23.04 I think one of my favorite verses on sanctuary 00:26:23.08\00:26:26.68 is Psalm 77:13, 00:26:26.72\00:26:29.82 because he says, "Your way, O Lord, 00:26:29.85\00:26:32.92 is in the sanctuary." 00:26:32.95\00:26:35.42 The sanctuary was theology in physical form. 00:26:35.46\00:26:40.00 It was three-dimensional 00:26:40.03\00:26:42.20 lifelike pictures of God's plan of salvation. 00:26:42.23\00:26:46.53 And all of its structures 00:26:46.57\00:26:48.04 and its ceremonies served as symbols of the, 00:26:48.07\00:26:53.71 illustrating the process of salvation, 00:26:53.74\00:26:55.94 so that the people who could not read at the time 00:26:55.98\00:27:00.48 but they could comprehend God's plan of salvation. 00:27:00.52\00:27:03.79 And it shows how God deals with sin, 00:27:03.82\00:27:07.99 and it shows the sinner's journey, 00:27:08.02\00:27:10.13 the way of the journey back to God. 00:27:10.16\00:27:12.93 Now everything about the earthly sanctuary 00:27:12.96\00:27:18.50 just symbolized the heavenly sanctuary. 00:27:18.53\00:27:20.97 And in case, I don't have time to get through all of this, 00:27:21.00\00:27:22.97 I want to read this. 00:27:23.00\00:27:24.34 In Revelation 11:19, it says, 00:27:24.37\00:27:27.38 "The temple of God was opened in heaven. 00:27:27.41\00:27:30.11 And the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple." 00:27:30.15\00:27:35.38 See, the image of the Ark of the Covenant 00:27:35.42\00:27:39.15 in the heavenly sanctuary 00:27:39.19\00:27:43.12 is just indisputable reference 00:27:43.16\00:27:45.73 to the most holy place, is it not? 00:27:45.76\00:27:47.93 So we're going to look at 00:27:47.96\00:27:52.80 this sanctuary motive. 00:27:52.83\00:27:54.97 Jesus was the central theme 00:27:55.00\00:27:59.54 of the sanctuary, His ministry. 00:27:59.57\00:28:03.88 But what we'll look at now 00:28:03.91\00:28:06.61 is the three main areas of the sanctuary, 00:28:06.65\00:28:09.98 and how they correspond 00:28:10.02\00:28:11.42 with the three phases of Christ's ministry in heaven. 00:28:11.45\00:28:14.32 So we're going to go through this rapidly. 00:28:14.36\00:28:17.09 When you first walked in to the earthly tabernacle, 00:28:17.13\00:28:21.66 the sanctuary, you were out in the outer court, 00:28:21.70\00:28:24.77 what did you see? 00:28:24.80\00:28:26.13 The altar of burnt offering. 00:28:26.17\00:28:28.27 This is where all of the animals 00:28:28.30\00:28:29.87 were slain as sacrifices for sin. 00:28:29.90\00:28:32.14 This was symbolic of the cross, 00:28:32.17\00:28:35.54 the animals were symbolic of the Lamb of God. 00:28:35.58\00:28:38.85 And what happened and transpired there, 00:28:38.88\00:28:41.22 this was all about justification 00:28:41.25\00:28:43.39 with a substitutionary sacrifice. 00:28:43.42\00:28:46.05 You went beyond that, and then you saw the laver. 00:28:46.09\00:28:49.66 This was between the altar of burnt offerings 00:28:49.69\00:28:52.69 and the two-compartment tabernacle. 00:28:52.73\00:28:55.03 This is where the priests washed, 00:28:55.06\00:28:57.13 and this symbolizes both baptism 00:28:57.17\00:28:59.60 and the living water of the Holy Spirit. 00:28:59.63\00:29:02.00 But now as you enter 00:29:02.04\00:29:03.37 into the two-compartment tabernacle, 00:29:03.41\00:29:07.01 when you look to... 00:29:07.04\00:29:09.54 And by the way, I... 00:29:09.58\00:29:13.25 Yeah, I'll say this. 00:29:13.28\00:29:14.98 The two-compartment tabernacle 00:29:15.02\00:29:18.92 was the holy place and the most holy place. 00:29:18.95\00:29:22.22 This represented daily service and annual service. 00:29:22.26\00:29:28.20 So we're looking at in the holy place, 00:29:28.23\00:29:32.27 this is symbolic of sanctification. 00:29:32.30\00:29:35.24 To the south on the left 00:29:35.27\00:29:37.07 was a seven-branched candlestick. 00:29:37.11\00:29:41.08 Jesus said, "I am the light of the world 00:29:41.11\00:29:44.35 and he who follows after me will never walk in darkness." 00:29:44.38\00:29:49.68 And the oil in the candlestick represented the Holy Spirit. 00:29:49.72\00:29:54.36 Now, if you look to the north side, 00:29:54.39\00:29:56.99 on the right was the table of showbread 00:29:57.03\00:29:59.73 with the 12 little things of bread stacked up. 00:29:59.76\00:30:05.47 What did Jesus say, "I am the bread of life." 00:30:05.50\00:30:09.07 That's right. Right? 00:30:09.10\00:30:10.57 And also he said in Matthew 4:4, 00:30:10.61\00:30:14.38 "Man shall not live by bread alone 00:30:14.41\00:30:16.64 but by every word that proceeds from my mouth." 00:30:16.68\00:30:20.58 So that table of showbread was symbolic of Jesus, 00:30:20.62\00:30:24.42 the Living Word of God as well as the Bible, 00:30:24.45\00:30:28.22 the written Word of God. 00:30:28.26\00:30:30.06 Now, if you looked directly in front of you 00:30:30.09\00:30:33.13 as you entered into this holy place, 00:30:33.16\00:30:37.17 you got the candelabra over here, 00:30:37.20\00:30:39.20 you've got the showbread, 00:30:39.23\00:30:40.94 but right in front of you was the altar of incense. 00:30:40.97\00:30:44.51 And what this altar of incense, 00:30:44.54\00:30:46.57 we just read in the lesson that the bowl of incense 00:30:46.61\00:30:50.68 before this represents the prayers. 00:30:50.71\00:30:53.75 And how I look at this is, our prayers as they... 00:30:53.78\00:30:57.85 This is where they prayed, at the altar of incense. 00:30:57.89\00:31:00.26 But the priest would take this incense 00:31:00.29\00:31:02.62 and add to our prayers, 00:31:02.66\00:31:04.46 and it was the sweet smelling aroma. 00:31:04.49\00:31:08.16 So you think of Hebrews 7:25 that says that Jesus, 00:31:08.20\00:31:13.97 I look at Him as our incense. 00:31:14.00\00:31:16.00 It is His prayers added to ours 00:31:16.04\00:31:18.94 that make it a sweet smelling aroma. 00:31:18.97\00:31:22.18 So in Hebrews 7:25, it says that He lives forever. 00:31:22.21\00:31:28.98 I mean, He's able to save to the uttermost 00:31:29.02\00:31:31.32 because He lives forever to intercede on our behalf. 00:31:31.35\00:31:35.92 And we also know that the Holy Spirit 00:31:35.96\00:31:38.36 does some intersession for us. 00:31:38.39\00:31:42.10 So when the priest entered the first compartment, 00:31:42.13\00:31:47.80 he was modeling what Jesus did in the heavenly sanctuary 00:31:47.84\00:31:52.17 right after His ascension. 00:31:52.21\00:31:54.88 This was represented in Revelation 1:13 00:31:54.91\00:32:00.08 where we see Jesus walking among the seven candlesticks. 00:32:00.12\00:32:04.19 Let's look at that. 00:32:04.22\00:32:05.55 Revelation 1:12 and 13. 00:32:05.59\00:32:07.86 And John says, "Then I turned to see 00:32:07.89\00:32:09.56 the voice that spoke with me. 00:32:09.59\00:32:10.93 And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands. 00:32:10.96\00:32:13.80 And in the midst of the seven lampstands 00:32:13.83\00:32:16.40 One like the Son of Man, 00:32:16.43\00:32:18.17 clothed with a garment down to his feet 00:32:18.20\00:32:20.47 and girded about the chest with a golden band." 00:32:20.50\00:32:24.87 So Jesus ascended 00:32:24.91\00:32:26.34 and He went immediately to work. 00:32:26.37\00:32:29.34 And by the way, I have to say this. 00:32:29.38\00:32:33.01 He went to work immediately in the holy place. 00:32:33.05\00:32:36.52 What I want to say is this. 00:32:36.55\00:32:38.85 Many Christians believe when Christ cried out, 00:32:38.89\00:32:42.32 "It is finished," that that was the end of the work 00:32:42.36\00:32:46.16 of the atonement. 00:32:46.19\00:32:47.53 No, it was the end of the work of the sacrifice 00:32:47.56\00:32:52.17 for the atonement. 00:32:52.20\00:32:53.54 He made the perfect sacrifice once for all. 00:32:53.57\00:32:56.00 But atonement was not only to do with the sacrifice, 00:32:56.04\00:33:01.81 it was to do with the priestly ministry. 00:33:01.84\00:33:05.31 So this is why we see Jesus doing His priestly ministry. 00:33:05.35\00:33:10.15 Now then there is the most holy place 00:33:10.19\00:33:13.05 which was a perfect cube. 00:33:13.09\00:33:14.82 Just as the New Jerusalem we're told in Revelation 21:16, 00:33:14.86\00:33:18.99 it's the perfect cube. 00:33:19.03\00:33:20.76 And they went in there once a year. 00:33:20.80\00:33:23.57 There was only one priest, 00:33:23.60\00:33:25.07 the high priest went in there once a year 00:33:25.10\00:33:26.80 on the Day of Atonement. 00:33:26.84\00:33:28.17 One piece of furniture in there, 00:33:28.20\00:33:30.41 and that was the ark, 00:33:30.44\00:33:32.14 which represented the ark of God, 00:33:32.17\00:33:34.31 represented His throne. 00:33:34.34\00:33:35.98 Inside the ark with the Ten Commandments 00:33:36.01\00:33:38.88 written by Christ's own finger. 00:33:38.91\00:33:42.05 There was Aaron's rod that was dead and butted 00:33:42.08\00:33:46.55 representing Jesus Christ, 00:33:46.59\00:33:48.92 the rod who was dead and then came back, 00:33:48.96\00:33:52.19 it was resurrected to life, and the pot of manna. 00:33:52.23\00:33:57.07 On the lid of the ark was the mercy seat. 00:33:57.10\00:34:02.67 And I think we talked about this 00:34:02.70\00:34:04.04 in the last lesson that the mercy seat, 00:34:04.07\00:34:06.71 this is the seat of propitiation. 00:34:06.74\00:34:09.44 And the Bible says that Jesus is our propitiation. 00:34:09.48\00:34:14.48 So there was a veil that separated 00:34:14.52\00:34:16.99 these two compartments, the holy from the most holy, 00:34:17.02\00:34:19.89 that veil represented Jesus' body. 00:34:19.92\00:34:22.29 And when Jesus died on the cross 00:34:22.32\00:34:24.33 and His flesh was torn, 00:34:24.36\00:34:26.03 the veil was torn from the top to the bottom. 00:34:26.06\00:34:30.20 And that symbolized 00:34:30.23\00:34:32.07 that the Levitical priesthood was over, 00:34:32.10\00:34:34.04 and we all had direct access to God. 00:34:34.07\00:34:37.01 So everything that we see, and I'm just out of time, 00:34:37.04\00:34:42.08 but let me just say this. 00:34:42.11\00:34:43.71 The two compartments, 00:34:43.75\00:34:45.75 Christ's atoning sacrifice was accomplished 00:34:45.78\00:34:48.92 once and for all at the cross, 00:34:48.95\00:34:51.35 but the full meaning of atonement includes 00:34:51.39\00:34:53.79 both the sacrifice and the priestly ministry. 00:34:53.82\00:34:56.96 And the two compartments 00:34:56.99\00:34:58.56 that we find in the sanctuary and in Revelation, 00:34:58.59\00:35:04.37 this is corresponding to the two separate rituals 00:35:04.40\00:35:08.14 that the daily, and the yearly services, 00:35:08.17\00:35:10.64 the two phases of Christ's heavenly ministry 00:35:10.67\00:35:15.24 after His ascension in AD 31 to 1844, 00:35:15.28\00:35:19.71 He was in the holy place. 00:35:19.75\00:35:22.02 But post 1844 which is the end of the 2300 year day, 00:35:22.05\00:35:26.99 prophecy of Daniel 8, His investigative began. 00:35:27.02\00:35:32.89 We're out of time, 00:35:32.93\00:35:34.26 but this is such a beautiful theme in Revelation. 00:35:34.30\00:35:38.40 Well done, Shelley, you know, this is... 00:35:38.43\00:35:39.93 I don't know how about you all but feels like I'm in church. 00:35:39.97\00:35:42.34 I know this is Sabbath School Panel, 00:35:42.37\00:35:44.14 looks like I'm having all these little mini sermons. 00:35:44.17\00:35:45.97 I mean, it's just great. I mean, praise the Lord. 00:35:46.01\00:35:47.64 Isn't it great to study God's Word. 00:35:47.68\00:35:49.51 It just really comes alive 00:35:49.54\00:35:50.88 and there's just, wow, so much to learn from it. 00:35:50.91\00:35:54.15 I have Christ in Revelation part one. 00:35:54.18\00:35:57.22 My dear wife has part two of Christ in Revelation. 00:35:57.25\00:36:01.22 And I know here in Southern Illinois, 00:36:01.26\00:36:03.86 it's springtime 'cause this is mid April. 00:36:03.89\00:36:05.89 And the farmers start to plough the fields, 00:36:05.93\00:36:08.53 and there's so much, you know, as you dig. 00:36:08.56\00:36:11.10 And I feel that when we open God's Word, 00:36:11.13\00:36:13.77 you can dig and dig and dig and dig, 00:36:13.80\00:36:16.04 and never find the end to what can be found in the Bible. 00:36:16.07\00:36:20.18 So we're going to go today, Revelation 1:1-8. 00:36:20.21\00:36:23.98 And I'll tell you, we're just hitting some of these texts, 00:36:24.01\00:36:25.75 and I want to encourage you at home... 00:36:25.78\00:36:28.12 'Cause I know, Shelley, Mollie, Pastor CA, I know my wife Jill, 00:36:28.15\00:36:30.75 you know, we're just brushing 00:36:30.79\00:36:32.12 just like hitting the tip of the iceberg and all this stuff. 00:36:32.15\00:36:34.09 So we encourage you as you're like, "Oh, wow. 00:36:34.12\00:36:35.96 What was that!" 00:36:35.99\00:36:37.33 We encourage you to study God's Word 00:36:37.36\00:36:38.69 'cause there is so much to be found out. 00:36:38.73\00:36:40.06 So anyway, I better get into this, 00:36:40.10\00:36:41.43 or I would run out of time. 00:36:41.46\00:36:42.80 Revelation 1:1- 8, and it says, 00:36:42.83\00:36:47.87 "The Revelation of Jesus Christ," 00:36:47.90\00:36:50.34 I'm gonna start right there. 00:36:50.37\00:36:51.71 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, and now that's powerful. 00:36:51.74\00:36:54.51 We've been talking about that already. 00:36:54.54\00:36:56.31 It's revealing who Christ is, 00:36:56.34\00:36:58.05 and Christ as throughout all of Revelation. 00:36:58.08\00:37:00.78 When I think about a work of art, 00:37:00.82\00:37:02.65 you know, an artist has done 00:37:02.68\00:37:04.02 or I don't know, a sculpture, maybe you're a sculptor. 00:37:04.05\00:37:06.72 And they have like this great unveiling or revealing, 00:37:06.76\00:37:10.13 they'll usually have it draped in some beautiful cloth. 00:37:10.16\00:37:13.09 And it's like three, two, one. 00:37:13.13\00:37:15.10 And somebody goes like that. 00:37:15.13\00:37:16.70 And wow, and everyone goes, whoa! 00:37:16.73\00:37:18.80 Usually, when there's something like a famous artist 00:37:18.83\00:37:21.20 or something like that, 00:37:21.24\00:37:22.84 it's been revealed their work of art. 00:37:22.87\00:37:25.21 There's a lot of people. 00:37:25.24\00:37:26.68 They're there to see this event. 00:37:26.71\00:37:28.71 And I believe here, the Revelation of Jesus Christ, 00:37:28.74\00:37:31.55 I believe the unveiling of Christ in Revelation 00:37:31.58\00:37:33.65 and throughout all the Bible will draw many people. 00:37:33.68\00:37:36.85 I think, is it John 12:32, says, 00:37:36.89\00:37:40.16 "And I, if I be lifted up would draw all men unto me." 00:37:40.19\00:37:42.26 So anyway, the Revelation of Jesus Christ 00:37:42.29\00:37:44.23 is the revealing, the unveiling of Jesus. 00:37:44.26\00:37:47.23 And I think it's interesting too 00:37:47.26\00:37:48.60 because really it's about Jesus Christ 00:37:48.63\00:37:49.96 and a lot of people feel that the Book of Revelation 00:37:50.00\00:37:52.60 is like, "Man, that's too complicated. 00:37:52.63\00:37:54.74 There are scary beasts and stuff I don't understand, 00:37:54.77\00:37:56.60 these prophecies. 00:37:56.64\00:37:57.97 I don't know, that's for some other time." 00:37:58.01\00:37:59.34 Do you know, Jesus Christ 00:37:59.37\00:38:00.71 should be studied every single day, 00:38:00.74\00:38:02.08 and the Book of Revelation is relevant to us, 00:38:02.11\00:38:03.91 so don't be afraid of it, study opening God's Word. 00:38:03.95\00:38:07.48 All right, we've already started verse 1, 00:38:07.52\00:38:09.35 we're not getting very far very fast, are we? 00:38:09.38\00:38:11.95 So let's see, okay, "The Revelation of Jesus Christ 00:38:11.99\00:38:15.72 which God gave unto Him to show unto His servants things 00:38:15.76\00:38:19.56 which must shortly come to pass. 00:38:19.59\00:38:22.26 And He went and signified 00:38:22.30\00:38:24.13 by His angel unto His servant, John." 00:38:24.17\00:38:26.94 Now I should have said this earlier 00:38:26.97\00:38:28.30 but the lesson asked the question, 00:38:28.34\00:38:30.11 and I think it's a good question, 00:38:30.14\00:38:31.47 and we'll look at some of these answers. 00:38:31.51\00:38:32.84 It says, "What do these verses teach us about Jesus?" 00:38:32.87\00:38:36.85 So hopefully, you're following 00:38:36.88\00:38:38.21 along in your Sabbath School lesson. 00:38:38.25\00:38:39.78 Revelation 1:1-8, 00:38:39.81\00:38:41.15 what do these verses teach us about Jesus? 00:38:41.18\00:38:42.68 And again, this is just one thing 00:38:42.72\00:38:44.05 I just picked out is that 00:38:44.09\00:38:45.42 it says here, shortly come to pass. 00:38:45.45\00:38:48.19 Basically, it's talking about end time events, 00:38:48.22\00:38:50.36 and that Jesus is in these end time events. 00:38:50.39\00:38:53.16 Verse 2, again, going quickly here. 00:38:53.19\00:38:55.43 "Who bore record of the Word of God 00:38:55.46\00:38:58.00 and of the testimony of Jesus Christ 00:38:58.03\00:39:01.30 and of all things that he saw? 00:39:01.34\00:39:04.01 I picked up on the word testimony, 00:39:04.04\00:39:05.87 which to me is a message from Jesus. 00:39:05.91\00:39:09.11 So what do these verses teach us about Jesus? 00:39:09.14\00:39:11.15 He has a special message for us. 00:39:11.18\00:39:13.58 Verse 3, it starts with the word blessed. 00:39:13.62\00:39:17.79 "Blessed is he that readeth, 00:39:17.82\00:39:19.79 and they that hear the words of this prophecy, 00:39:19.82\00:39:22.96 and keep those things which are written therein: 00:39:22.99\00:39:25.29 for the time is at hand." 00:39:25.33\00:39:27.13 And I want to just hit on something here. 00:39:27.16\00:39:28.76 Do you know it's the word, it says blessed. 00:39:28.80\00:39:30.80 When you think of the Book of Matthew 00:39:30.83\00:39:32.17 and you think of the word blessed, 00:39:32.20\00:39:33.54 what do you think of, Shelley? 00:39:33.57\00:39:34.90 The beatitudes, right? 00:39:34.94\00:39:36.27 I mean, yeah, and I didn't realize this. 00:39:36.30\00:39:38.51 I'm learning as we're studying the Sabbath School lesson, 00:39:38.54\00:39:40.41 so this was a lot of fun. 00:39:40.44\00:39:41.94 There are seven beatitudes in the Book of Revelation, 00:39:41.98\00:39:45.31 so I want to look at those quickly here. 00:39:45.35\00:39:47.32 And I actually... 00:39:47.35\00:39:49.45 My wife is a really fast typist, 00:39:49.48\00:39:51.09 so I had her type all the scriptures in here. 00:39:51.12\00:39:53.46 So I'm not turning through all the scriptures in my Bible 00:39:53.49\00:39:56.52 just to try and save a little bit of time. 00:39:56.56\00:39:57.96 So let's go, the seven beatitudes. 00:39:57.99\00:39:59.93 Number one, Revelation 1:3, write that down. 00:39:59.96\00:40:03.40 It says, "Blessed is he that readeth," 00:40:03.43\00:40:05.53 we just read that now, 00:40:05.57\00:40:06.90 "and they that hear the words of this prophecy 00:40:06.94\00:40:08.77 and keep those things that are written therein: 00:40:08.80\00:40:10.91 for the time is at hand." 00:40:10.94\00:40:12.34 I have the blessing, there is a blessing 00:40:12.37\00:40:14.91 to those who read and hear the Word of God. 00:40:14.94\00:40:18.41 Beatitude number two is Revelation 14:13, 00:40:18.45\00:40:22.48 and it says, "Blessed are the dead 00:40:22.52\00:40:25.85 which die in the Lord from henceforth. 00:40:25.89\00:40:28.82 'Yea,' saith the spirit that they may rest from their labors 00:40:28.86\00:40:32.93 and their works do follow them." 00:40:32.96\00:40:35.53 Okay, there is a blessing to those who die in Christ 00:40:35.56\00:40:39.13 because they held fast their faith and hope. 00:40:39.17\00:40:42.87 Praise God. 00:40:42.90\00:40:44.24 And then we have beatitude number three, Revelation 16:15. 00:40:44.27\00:40:48.78 It says, "Behold, I come as a thief. 00:40:48.81\00:40:51.68 Blessed," there's that word, "blessed is he that watcheth 00:40:51.71\00:40:54.98 and keepeth his garments, 00:40:55.02\00:40:56.69 lest he walk naked and they see his shame." 00:40:56.72\00:41:00.59 So there's a blessing to those who keep persistently awake. 00:41:00.62\00:41:04.79 I know I want to stay awake. 00:41:04.83\00:41:06.96 is our beatitude number four. 00:41:07.00\00:41:10.30 Right, "Blessed are they which are called 00:41:10.33\00:41:13.23 unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. 00:41:13.27\00:41:15.60 And he saith unto me, 00:41:15.64\00:41:17.91 'These are the true sayings of God.'" 00:41:17.94\00:41:21.34 So there's a blessings to those who, what? 00:41:21.38\00:41:23.68 Who are part of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. 00:41:23.71\00:41:26.08 Amen. 00:41:26.11\00:41:27.45 And we have number five, Revelation 20:6, 00:41:27.48\00:41:30.85 "Blessed and holy is he that hath part 00:41:30.89\00:41:33.86 in the first resurrection. 00:41:33.89\00:41:36.12 On such the second death, it has no power," praise God, 00:41:36.16\00:41:40.10 "but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, 00:41:40.13\00:41:42.73 and shall reign with Him a thousand years." 00:41:42.76\00:41:45.93 There is a blessing to those 00:41:45.97\00:41:47.30 who have part in the first resurrection, 00:41:47.34\00:41:49.27 that's for sure. 00:41:49.30\00:41:50.91 Then we have beatitude number six 00:41:50.94\00:41:52.64 in the Book of Revelation, 00:41:52.67\00:41:54.01 and that is Revelation 22:7, "Behold, I come quickly. 00:41:54.04\00:41:58.51 Blessed is He that keepeth 00:41:58.55\00:42:00.32 the sayings of the prophecies of this book." 00:42:00.35\00:42:03.45 All right, I ask you at home, what is that blessing? 00:42:03.49\00:42:07.59 That's right, it's blessing to those who treasure 00:42:07.62\00:42:09.79 the words of Revelation and the whole Bible. 00:42:09.82\00:42:13.06 And then the last one, Revelation 22:14, 00:42:13.09\00:42:16.77 just a couple verses down. 00:42:16.80\00:42:18.43 "Blessed are they that do His commandments 00:42:18.47\00:42:22.27 that they may have right to the tree of life 00:42:22.30\00:42:24.37 and may enter in through the gates into the city." 00:42:24.41\00:42:26.98 And basically there's a blessing to those who obey. 00:42:27.01\00:42:30.05 And let's... 00:42:30.08\00:42:31.41 Wow, there's a lot to be studied for sure. 00:42:31.45\00:42:34.35 Let's look at... 00:42:34.38\00:42:37.19 Continuing on with Revelation, Revelation 1:5-6. 00:42:37.22\00:42:42.59 And it says, "And from Jesus Christ 00:42:42.62\00:42:45.23 who is the faithful witness," Mollie read that earlier, 00:42:45.26\00:42:48.16 "and the first begotten of the dead 00:42:48.20\00:42:50.20 and the prince of the kings of the earth, 00:42:50.23\00:42:52.50 unto Him that loved us 00:42:52.53\00:42:54.37 and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 00:42:54.40\00:42:57.67 and hath made us kings and priests 00:42:57.71\00:42:59.57 unto God and his Father, 00:42:59.61\00:43:01.41 to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. 00:43:01.44\00:43:05.18 Amen." 00:43:05.21\00:43:06.55 And the lesson asked a great question. 00:43:06.58\00:43:09.18 It says... 00:43:09.22\00:43:10.72 Well, basically, how do we find Jesus again 00:43:10.75\00:43:12.72 in all of these verses? 00:43:12.75\00:43:14.19 And I have here, "To him," 00:43:14.22\00:43:15.86 who begins a list of Jesus' actions 00:43:15.89\00:43:19.39 in our behalf and that's powerful. 00:43:19.43\00:43:22.06 Verse 5 says, He, what? 00:43:22.10\00:43:24.03 He loved us. 00:43:24.07\00:43:25.40 You know, He loves you, 00:43:25.43\00:43:26.77 He loves me, He loves all of us. 00:43:26.80\00:43:28.14 Praise the Lord for that, 00:43:28.17\00:43:29.50 and He woos us with His love for sure. 00:43:29.54\00:43:31.31 Verse 5 also says, "He washed us 00:43:31.34\00:43:33.54 from our sins in His own blood." 00:43:33.58\00:43:36.95 Boy! What a sacrifice! 00:43:36.98\00:43:38.31 So grateful for that. 00:43:38.35\00:43:39.91 You can also look up 1 Corinthians 6:11. 00:43:39.95\00:43:43.62 And it says, "And such were some of you 00:43:43.65\00:43:46.22 but you were washed, but you were sanctified, 00:43:46.25\00:43:48.52 but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus 00:43:48.56\00:43:51.59 and by the spirit of our God." 00:43:51.63\00:43:54.00 You know, to me, this gives us assurance 00:43:54.03\00:43:55.36 because it says, He washes us. 00:43:55.40\00:43:57.10 Sometimes, I know, I try and wash myself of the sins, 00:43:57.13\00:44:00.00 but you know, it's Jesus Christ. 00:44:00.04\00:44:01.57 And that takes the pressure off, 00:44:01.60\00:44:02.94 we just have to submit our life to Jesus Christ and say, 00:44:02.97\00:44:05.04 "God, I'm dirty, take me. 00:44:05.07\00:44:07.31 Thank you for washing of my sins." 00:44:07.34\00:44:08.94 That's great encouragement. 00:44:08.98\00:44:10.41 He died for us. 00:44:10.45\00:44:11.85 Verse 6 says, "He made us priests and kings." 00:44:11.88\00:44:15.65 And I'm just telling you, I'm skipping some stuff here. 00:44:15.68\00:44:18.25 So, yeah, I want to get to verse 7. 00:44:18.29\00:44:20.82 And verse 7 says, "Behold, He cometh with clouds 00:44:20.86\00:44:24.53 and every eye shall see Him, 00:44:24.56\00:44:26.63 and they also, which pierced Him, 00:44:26.66\00:44:28.36 and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. 00:44:28.40\00:44:32.47 Even so, Amen." 00:44:32.50\00:44:34.70 What does that say to you at home? 00:44:34.74\00:44:36.40 It says, "Jesus Christ, He's coming. 00:44:36.44\00:44:39.54 He's coming soon. 00:44:39.57\00:44:40.91 And I think what's neat here too, 00:44:40.94\00:44:42.28 John, when he writes this, says, "Behold, He cometh." 00:44:42.31\00:44:45.81 You know, that's present tense. 00:44:45.85\00:44:47.88 So in other words, the Apostle John 00:44:47.92\00:44:49.62 is stressing the certainty of Christ's second coming. 00:44:49.65\00:44:53.22 And I believe that He is nearer than ever before. 00:44:53.25\00:44:55.92 Amen. Praise God for that. 00:44:55.96\00:44:57.73 And let's go down to verse 8 00:44:57.76\00:45:00.66 which is the last of the 1-8 here 00:45:00.70\00:45:02.56 that we're looking at. 00:45:02.60\00:45:03.93 And it says, "I am Alpha and Omega, 00:45:03.97\00:45:06.20 the beginning and the ending,' saith the Lord, 00:45:06.23\00:45:08.87 'which is and which was and which is to come.'" 00:45:08.90\00:45:12.61 The Almighty. 00:45:12.64\00:45:13.98 The part here that says which is, which was, 00:45:14.01\00:45:16.98 and which is to come, 00:45:17.01\00:45:18.35 basically, we've got a God without explicit limit. 00:45:18.38\00:45:24.29 I mean, it's amazing for me even... 00:45:24.32\00:45:25.65 You can't even fathom that. 00:45:25.69\00:45:28.12 And I have here, "The same God who now continually exists 00:45:28.16\00:45:32.63 has always existed and will always exist. 00:45:32.66\00:45:37.33 God's existence transcends time." 00:45:37.37\00:45:40.80 And then at the very end here, 00:45:40.84\00:45:42.17 I want to focus on the Alpha and the Omega, says... 00:45:42.20\00:45:44.94 You know that's the first letter of the alphabet, 00:45:44.97\00:45:46.74 A for us, Omega would be Z for us. 00:45:46.78\00:45:49.91 Everything in between... In Greek. 00:45:49.94\00:45:51.28 In Greek, thank you. Thank you for that, in Greek. 00:45:51.31\00:45:53.58 So it says, "The first letter of the Greek alphabet 00:45:53.62\00:45:55.65 which represents the Lord as the unoriginated originator 00:45:55.68\00:46:00.39 of all life, and that is all eternal. 00:46:00.42\00:46:03.32 Omega, the last letter of the Greek alphabet, 00:46:03.36\00:46:05.69 God's infinity, endless referring 00:46:05.73\00:46:08.60 to His absolute limitlessness 00:46:08.63\00:46:11.50 to meet all the needs of finite limited people. 00:46:11.53\00:46:15.30 Praise the Lord. 00:46:15.34\00:46:16.67 Is Jesus in the Book of Revelation? 00:46:16.71\00:46:18.04 Absolutely, He's throughout the entire Bible. 00:46:18.07\00:46:20.38 My time is gone. 00:46:20.41\00:46:21.74 But anyway, praise the Lord, 00:46:21.78\00:46:23.11 let's continue to study His Word. 00:46:23.14\00:46:24.48 Amen, thank you so much, sweetheart. 00:46:24.51\00:46:25.85 What a powerful study. 00:46:25.88\00:46:27.22 God is in the entire Bible, because God wrote the Bible. 00:46:27.25\00:46:31.59 He spoken and it was done, the Word, 00:46:31.62\00:46:34.02 that we hold in our hands always never ceases to amaze me 00:46:34.06\00:46:38.13 at the creative energy in God. 00:46:38.16\00:46:40.30 The creative energy that when He spoke in the beginning, 00:46:40.33\00:46:42.93 the world's came into an existence 00:46:42.96\00:46:45.03 and the same energy is in the Word of God. 00:46:45.07\00:46:47.84 My passage is Jesus in the Book of Revelation, 00:46:47.87\00:46:50.94 Christ in Revelation. 00:46:50.97\00:46:52.47 We are looking at part two which is Revelation 1, 00:46:52.51\00:46:56.61 we're looking at verses 9-18, 00:46:56.64\00:46:59.88 and we've touched on some of this already. 00:46:59.91\00:47:03.05 Verse 9, "I, John, both your brother and companion 00:47:03.08\00:47:06.72 in tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, 00:47:06.76\00:47:11.46 was on the island that is called Patmos 00:47:11.49\00:47:13.29 for the Word of God 00:47:13.33\00:47:14.66 and for the testimony of Jesus Christ." 00:47:14.70\00:47:17.30 Now Mollie already touched on that that John... 00:47:17.33\00:47:19.30 This is probably AD 95 or so 00:47:19.33\00:47:22.10 exiled to the Island of Patmos. 00:47:22.14\00:47:25.17 And it's interesting, he said, "I'm your brother 00:47:25.21\00:47:27.41 and I'm your companion in the tribulation. 00:47:27.44\00:47:30.15 Now, the word for tribulation in Greek is thlipsis. 00:47:30.18\00:47:33.92 I'm not sure I'm pronouncing that correctly. 00:47:33.95\00:47:36.65 But it means persecution or tribulation. 00:47:36.69\00:47:40.16 But interestingly, it refers to someone 00:47:40.19\00:47:42.99 who would be hemmed in, 00:47:43.02\00:47:45.33 in a narrow place. 00:47:45.36\00:47:46.80 It refers to internal pressure. 00:47:46.83\00:47:50.33 So there's another Greek word 00:47:50.37\00:47:52.03 used for tribulation, persecution, 00:47:52.07\00:47:54.40 and that is external pressure. 00:47:54.44\00:47:56.60 So it's interesting to me that John, when he is writing, 00:47:56.64\00:47:59.64 he says, "I'm your companion in tribulation, 00:47:59.67\00:48:01.88 meaning the early Christian churches 00:48:01.91\00:48:04.55 under great mental persecution. 00:48:04.58\00:48:07.75 Now we know about the physical persecution 00:48:07.78\00:48:10.69 'cause that's clear from history 00:48:10.72\00:48:12.12 but obviously, they were enduring 00:48:12.15\00:48:13.92 mental persecution as well. 00:48:13.96\00:48:17.36 And he's writing this exhortation, 00:48:17.39\00:48:20.00 this encouragement, the Book of Revelation to them. 00:48:20.03\00:48:23.13 Verse 10, "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, 00:48:23.16\00:48:25.83 and I heard behind me a loud voice, 00:48:25.87\00:48:28.17 as of a trumpet," 00:48:28.20\00:48:29.54 we'll discover who this is, 00:48:29.57\00:48:30.94 "saying, 'I am the Alpha and the Omega.'" 00:48:30.97\00:48:34.04 Greg just talked about that. 00:48:34.08\00:48:35.68 The first letter of the Greek alphabet and the last letter. 00:48:35.71\00:48:38.58 "I am the beginning and the end. 00:48:38.61\00:48:40.75 I am Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, 00:48:40.78\00:48:45.02 and, what you see, write in a book 00:48:45.05\00:48:47.09 and send it to the seven churches 00:48:47.12\00:48:48.82 which are in Asia, to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, 00:48:48.86\00:48:52.89 to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, to Laodicea." 00:48:52.93\00:48:56.56 Now that's Revelation 2 and 3, 00:48:56.60\00:48:58.70 we don't have time to discuss the seven churches there. 00:48:58.73\00:49:02.30 But they are representative of... 00:49:02.34\00:49:05.31 Of course, they were churches in Asia Minor at that time 00:49:05.34\00:49:07.98 but they're representative of churches 00:49:08.01\00:49:10.01 all the way down the stream of time 00:49:10.05\00:49:13.05 to the present day church today, 00:49:13.08\00:49:16.38 the church of Laodicea. 00:49:16.42\00:49:18.35 Verse 12, "Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. 00:49:18.39\00:49:22.39 And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 00:49:22.42\00:49:26.39 and in the midst of the seven lampstands, 00:49:26.43\00:49:28.40 one like the Son of Man..." 00:49:28.43\00:49:31.30 Now first of all, what are the seven golden lampstands. 00:49:31.33\00:49:34.44 Now, Shelley talked about this already 00:49:34.47\00:49:36.07 with the sanctuary language 00:49:36.10\00:49:38.67 that we see here in Revelation 1, 00:49:38.71\00:49:41.21 but the Bible is very clear if you're not sure 00:49:41.24\00:49:43.55 what the lampstands are, Revelation 1:20. 00:49:43.58\00:49:47.15 It says, "The mystery of the seven stars 00:49:47.18\00:49:49.15 which you saw in My right hand, 00:49:49.18\00:49:50.65 and the seven golden lampstands. 00:49:50.69\00:49:52.65 The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, 00:49:52.69\00:49:56.22 and the seven lampstands 00:49:56.26\00:49:57.89 which you saw are the seven churches." 00:49:57.93\00:50:00.43 Now, of course, there is the sanctuary language here. 00:50:00.46\00:50:03.13 But in addition, he's saying that one like the Son of Man 00:50:03.16\00:50:07.20 appeared in the midst of the seven churches. 00:50:07.24\00:50:10.77 You know what that says to me. 00:50:10.81\00:50:12.31 In the midst of our internal pressure, 00:50:12.34\00:50:15.28 in the midst of whatever 00:50:15.31\00:50:16.64 we are going through as a church, 00:50:16.68\00:50:18.95 Jesus is there. 00:50:18.98\00:50:21.15 Jesus is right in the middle 00:50:21.18\00:50:23.72 of whatever you are going through, 00:50:23.75\00:50:25.95 whatever circumstance, 00:50:25.99\00:50:27.52 these seven churches all represent 00:50:27.56\00:50:29.22 a different time period 00:50:29.26\00:50:30.59 but different struggles they all have. 00:50:30.63\00:50:32.69 And in the midst of all of them, 00:50:32.73\00:50:34.10 Jesus was there in the midst of them. 00:50:34.13\00:50:37.13 And it says, "One like the Son of Man." 00:50:37.17\00:50:38.93 Now it's interesting to me, 00:50:38.97\00:50:40.44 I think the Son of man is one of Jesus' 00:50:40.47\00:50:42.94 favorite self descriptions in the gospels, 00:50:42.97\00:50:46.21 He referred to Himself quite often as the Son of Man. 00:50:46.24\00:50:50.15 Mark 2:28, Jesus speaking, the Sabbath was made for man, 00:50:50.18\00:50:54.02 we can quote this, and not man for the Sabbath. 00:50:54.05\00:50:57.25 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath. 00:50:57.29\00:51:00.76 He's mentioning that Himself as the Son of Man. 00:51:00.79\00:51:03.66 Luke 19:10, the Son of Man 00:51:03.69\00:51:05.49 has come to seek and to save that which was lost. 00:51:05.53\00:51:10.03 Now I think there's a danger, you could say, 00:51:10.07\00:51:13.90 when we look at Jesus Christ. 00:51:13.94\00:51:15.50 And I know in my own experience, 00:51:15.54\00:51:17.31 I have been guilty of this. 00:51:17.34\00:51:19.34 Sometimes we look at Jesus as the savior and the servant, 00:51:19.37\00:51:23.35 and He is the savior and the servant. 00:51:23.38\00:51:28.38 Sometimes we look at Him as the king and the judge, 00:51:28.42\00:51:32.32 and He is the king and the judge. 00:51:32.35\00:51:34.32 But sometimes we look at either one aspect 00:51:34.36\00:51:37.69 to the exclusion of leaving out the other aspect 00:51:37.73\00:51:40.60 but the truth is Jesus is our savior, 00:51:40.63\00:51:42.86 He is the suffering servant. 00:51:42.90\00:51:44.63 He also is king, 00:51:44.67\00:51:46.53 and He is coming as judge to this world again. 00:51:46.57\00:51:50.01 So He encompasses all aspects of His character. 00:51:50.04\00:51:55.11 We looked here, what is He clothed in? 00:51:55.14\00:51:57.08 "Clothed with the garment down to the feet." 00:51:57.11\00:51:59.01 This is sanctuary language again. 00:51:59.05\00:52:01.52 "And girded about the chest with a golden band." 00:52:01.55\00:52:04.75 Now in ancient times, either a priest 00:52:04.79\00:52:08.29 or a judge would wear those long robes 00:52:08.32\00:52:11.13 all the way down to their feet. 00:52:11.16\00:52:13.36 "And then He was girded about the chest with a golden band." 00:52:13.40\00:52:16.16 And again, either a priest or a judge 00:52:16.20\00:52:19.63 would wear the golden band. 00:52:19.67\00:52:21.67 The priest often wore right around the waist 00:52:21.70\00:52:24.11 so they could tuck up the skirt if they were, 00:52:24.14\00:52:26.14 you know, the end of the robe 00:52:26.17\00:52:27.74 if they were involved in some sort of service. 00:52:27.78\00:52:30.58 Now, the judge would wear it 00:52:30.61\00:52:31.95 across the shoulder and across the chest, 00:52:31.98\00:52:34.45 symbolizing that authority. 00:52:34.48\00:52:36.79 Verse 14, "His head and hair were white like wool, 00:52:36.82\00:52:39.85 as white as snow, 00:52:39.89\00:52:41.22 and His eyes like a flame of fire." 00:52:41.26\00:52:42.99 We see a double illustration of the purity 00:52:43.02\00:52:47.26 and holiness of Jesus. 00:52:47.30\00:52:49.36 "White like wool, white as snow, 00:52:49.40\00:52:51.63 and His eyes like a flame of fire." 00:52:51.67\00:52:54.57 Now, fire in scripture is often used as a symbol of judgement. 00:52:54.60\00:52:59.71 We see that in 1 Corinthians 3:12 and 13. 00:52:59.74\00:53:03.75 "If anyone builds on this foundation 00:53:03.78\00:53:05.98 with gold, silver, precious stones, 00:53:06.01\00:53:07.88 wood, hay, straw. 00:53:07.92\00:53:09.25 Each one's work will become clear, 00:53:09.28\00:53:11.29 for the day would declare it 00:53:11.32\00:53:12.65 because it will be revealed by fire." 00:53:12.69\00:53:15.66 Fire is often that symbol of judgement. 00:53:15.69\00:53:18.79 The fire would test each one's work of what sort it is. 00:53:18.83\00:53:23.13 "His feet," we're continuing, "were like fine brass, 00:53:23.16\00:53:26.07 as if refined in a furnace, 00:53:26.10\00:53:27.80 His voice as the sound of many waters. 00:53:27.84\00:53:30.17 He had in His right hand seven stars, 00:53:30.21\00:53:32.47 out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword..." 00:53:32.51\00:53:35.08 I want to pause a moment on the two-edged sword. 00:53:35.11\00:53:37.81 In the Bible, the sword represents, Hebrews 4:12, 00:53:37.85\00:53:40.82 the Word of God, right? 00:53:40.85\00:53:42.18 The Word of God is quick and powerful, 00:53:42.22\00:53:43.55 sharper than an two-edged sword, 00:53:43.59\00:53:45.25 but that sword is a different Greek word 00:53:45.29\00:53:48.06 than the sword used here. 00:53:48.09\00:53:49.52 The sword for the Word of God is a short sword or a dagger. 00:53:49.56\00:53:53.66 In this case, it's a long sword used, 00:53:53.70\00:53:57.93 the Greek word, is the long sword that cuts and pierces. 00:53:57.97\00:54:01.77 And this sword, when you see it in the Word of God, 00:54:01.80\00:54:05.17 it's used for executing justice and vengeance. 00:54:05.21\00:54:08.08 So this is showing Jesus coming 00:54:08.11\00:54:10.91 as that executing justice and vengeance. 00:54:10.95\00:54:14.55 "His countenance," it says, 00:54:14.58\00:54:15.92 "is like the sun shining in its strength." 00:54:15.95\00:54:18.95 In the beginning, the Lord made the sun to rule the day, 00:54:18.99\00:54:21.96 Christ is to rule the world reference not only to the deity 00:54:21.99\00:54:26.46 but to the holiness of Christ. 00:54:26.49\00:54:28.60 So John is overwhelmed, 00:54:28.63\00:54:29.96 he collapses as one dead right here. 00:54:30.00\00:54:32.67 And then let's pick it up, verse 17, 00:54:32.70\00:54:37.14 "Jesus laid His right hand on John saying, 00:54:37.17\00:54:39.71 'Do not be afraid, I am the First and the Last. 00:54:39.74\00:54:41.91 I am He who lives, and was dead, 00:54:41.94\00:54:43.95 behold, I am alive forevermore. 00:54:43.98\00:54:46.92 Amen. I have the keys of Hades and of death." 00:54:46.95\00:54:50.05 Three takeaways, Jesus is eternal, 00:54:50.09\00:54:52.85 He is the First and Last, the Alpha and the Omega. 00:54:52.89\00:54:56.36 Number two, Jesus is divine. 00:54:56.39\00:54:59.53 "I am" indicates His oneness with God, 00:54:59.56\00:55:03.67 His deity, His divinity. 00:55:03.70\00:55:06.43 Number three, Jesus is victorious. 00:55:06.47\00:55:08.97 He says, "I am alive for ever more. 00:55:09.00\00:55:11.87 I am the resurrection and the life." 00:55:11.91\00:55:14.64 It reminds me of John 11. 00:55:14.68\00:55:16.75 Jesus is victorious. 00:55:16.78\00:55:18.11 He has won because He was raised from the dead, 00:55:18.15\00:55:21.42 you and I have hope, 00:55:21.45\00:55:22.78 and we can have the gift of eternal salvation. 00:55:22.82\00:55:26.25 Wow. Amen, amen. 00:55:26.29\00:55:27.92 Jill, thank you so very, very much. 00:55:27.96\00:55:29.29 As you are reading that description of our Lord 00:55:29.32\00:55:32.06 there in John's wordings, 00:55:32.09\00:55:34.16 I was thinking back to Daniel 10 00:55:34.20\00:55:37.00 when Jesus came to home school Daniel there right in his room, 00:55:37.03\00:55:41.10 you know, He came to explain some things. 00:55:41.14\00:55:43.91 How wonderful it is that in these last days, 00:55:43.94\00:55:46.51 these truths have been unsealed. 00:55:46.54\00:55:49.41 Revelation is not a book to be scared of, 00:55:49.44\00:55:51.45 it's not one to have fear of. 00:55:51.48\00:55:53.62 The gold nuggets are not lying on the surface in Revelation, 00:55:53.65\00:55:56.58 you got to dig to get the understanding 00:55:56.62\00:55:58.92 but if you dig, your digging will be rewarded. 00:55:58.95\00:56:02.22 Does anyone have a closing thought 00:56:02.26\00:56:03.59 in their own mind that they'd like to share? 00:56:03.63\00:56:07.33 Well, I have a quick story. 00:56:07.36\00:56:09.46 Imagine that you are at the zoo, 00:56:09.50\00:56:11.57 and a lamb came up and licked your hand, 00:56:11.60\00:56:13.64 and you think, "Oh, that's really sweet." 00:56:13.67\00:56:15.30 And then you heard a loud roar behind you, 00:56:15.34\00:56:18.37 and you turned around and there's a lion, 00:56:18.41\00:56:20.04 and there's no way that you could escape him, 00:56:20.08\00:56:22.04 and you shut your eyes and think, "I'm gonna die." 00:56:22.08\00:56:24.25 And then all of a sudden, the lion licks your hand. 00:56:24.28\00:56:26.78 Now, which lick means more? 00:56:26.82\00:56:28.78 The lick of the lion, right? 00:56:28.82\00:56:30.59 So I think the primary reason 00:56:30.62\00:56:32.85 that we are not astonished 00:56:32.89\00:56:34.92 at the lamb of God's forgiveness 00:56:34.96\00:56:36.73 for our sins as that we have no sense 00:56:36.76\00:56:40.30 of the lion's raging fury against that sin. 00:56:40.33\00:56:44.37 Boy, that's really... 00:56:44.40\00:56:45.97 Very powerful. Very, very, well said. 00:56:46.00\00:56:49.07 In these last days, we need to come very close to Jesus. 00:56:49.10\00:56:52.84 Our Bibles need to be opened constantly, 00:56:52.87\00:56:55.48 we need to be constantly in prayer, 00:56:55.51\00:56:57.58 for as I mentioned before our beliefs, 00:56:57.61\00:57:00.02 our very love for the Lord will be challenged, 00:57:00.05\00:57:02.75 and will be tested but we can be overcomers. 00:57:02.78\00:57:06.52 We can be victorious in Christ Jesus. 00:57:06.55\00:57:09.62 In fact, Christ has guaranteed 00:57:09.66\00:57:12.39 that victory to those who will abide in Him. 00:57:12.43\00:57:16.77 Stay in Jesus, stay in the Word. 00:57:16.80\00:57:20.77 Let Christ be in you and do all He can for you, 00:57:20.80\00:57:24.41 and He will indeed save you. 00:57:24.44\00:57:26.44 Join us next time on Sabbath School Panel, we'll be here. 00:57:26.47\00:57:29.51 You join us, we'll be blessed together. 00:57:29.54\00:57:31.75 God bless. 00:57:31.78\00:57:33.11
