The church at
Colossae was being disturbed

by some false teachers.

In the city of Colossae,

they worshipped many spiritual
beings other than angels,

and it's very possible

that the church was
being troubled by this.

This kind of
idea was infiltrating,

the various
philosophies were infiltrating
00:05:32.43\00:05:35.36
the worship of
angels and other spirits.
00:05:35.40\00:05:38.30
So what Paul does
to show the Colossians

that this is a fake theology

is that he is now
going to present Christ
00:05:46.27\00:05:49.78
as the creator of all
things, the whole universe,

and that leaves no
room for the worship

or adoration of lesser beings.

So let's look
at Colossians 1:16.

And just notice
these prepositions.

I will kind of emphasize
them as I go through them.

"For by Him..."

So even the other spirit beings,

Christocentric universe.

And, you know, John

So only God can be
the Creator, right?

So this is one of
the best scriptures

to affirm the deity of Christ

because if Christ

There's such power
in the Word of God.

Now let's take that one apart.

He's the creator of all things,

that means He holds the
highest rank, does He not?

His supremacy is
absolute over all creatures,

And those local heretics

worshipped the creatures
rather than the creator,

about at the church,

the population of Colossae.

So if Jesus is
sovereign over all,

over His church too.

He's the head of the church.

We're under His authority,

we should carryout His commands.

firstborn from among the dead."

minute, the widow of Nain,

"Therefore, if
anyone is in Christ,

he is a new creation.

Old things have passed away,

behold, all
things have become new."

Sometimes we don't
feel like that, do we?

But you have to understand
what it means to be in Christ.

We have recreated a new
