A. Murray, and I'm going to introduce the family that is 00:01:14.44\00:01:17.94 here to join us in study. 00:01:17.97\00:01:19.54 Jill Morikone, to my immediate left, Ms. Mollie Steenson, 00:01:19.57\00:01:23.55 the Lady Shelly Quinn, and Pastor Kenny Shelton. 00:01:23.61\00:01:26.51 Good to have you all here guys. 00:01:26.55\00:01:28.02 It's a blessing to be here. 00:01:28.05\00:01:29.48 And we praise the Lord for your study. 00:01:29.52\00:01:32.02 And these are students of the word. 00:01:32.05\00:01:33.62 We've been finding out some wonderful things. 00:01:33.66\00:01:35.52 And it is good to see how the lesson appears to each one in 00:01:35.56\00:01:40.36 a slightly different way, yet we're all pulling on the same 00:01:40.40\00:01:42.90 team, heading in the same direction. 00:01:42.93\00:01:44.33 And everyone has their own little, dare I say, 00:01:44.37\00:01:46.77 bean to add to the pot, which makes a beautiful stew. 00:01:46.80\00:01:49.80 And it's really fun by the time we together we've all learned 00:01:49.84\00:01:53.01 so very, very much. 00:01:53.04\00:01:54.38 So, should you have an iPad, iPhone, i anything, or pen, or 00:01:54.41\00:01:59.41 pencil, or piece of paper, whatever you have to take 00:01:59.45\00:02:01.72 notes on, please do so. 00:02:01.75\00:02:03.08 And may I encourage you, if you do not have a Sabbath School 00:02:03.12\00:02:06.25 Study Guide that you go to ABSG.Adventist. org and you can 00:02:06.29\00:02:14.60 download one for your very own. 00:02:14.63\00:02:16.77 I like to have paper in front of me because I can mark on it, 00:02:16.83\00:02:19.63 and write on it, and make little notes. 00:02:19.67\00:02:21.17 That's why I'm not a Kindle person, because you can't 00:02:21.20\00:02:23.67 make notes on a Kindle. 00:02:23.71\00:02:25.04 Well, actually you can if you get the advance one, 00:02:25.07\00:02:26.41 but it's sort of difficult. 00:02:26.44\00:02:27.78 Easier to just grab a pen and write on your paper. 00:02:27.81\00:02:30.41 So do that. Or, should you wish, go to the closest Seventh-day 00:02:30.45\00:02:35.38 Adventist church and they will be happy to get one for you 00:02:35.42\00:02:38.35 and you can have it. 00:02:38.39\00:02:39.72 And while you're there stay for service. 00:02:39.75\00:02:41.66 You'll be blessed, I guarantee you. 00:02:41.69\00:02:43.39 So we're studying in the book of Romans. 00:02:43.43\00:02:45.69 I'm going to ask Pastor Kenny, would you have 00:02:45.73\00:02:47.96 prayer for us, please? Yes. 00:02:48.00\00:02:49.36 And then we'll launch right out into Lesson 7, Overcoming Sin. 00:02:49.40\00:02:55.20 Pastor, if you would. 00:02:55.24\00:02:56.57 Let's pray. Loving Father in Heaven, truly it is a blessing 00:02:56.64\00:02:59.64 to be able to open the pages of this beautiful 00:02:59.67\00:03:02.18 book called the Bible. 00:03:02.21\00:03:03.55 We pray for the power of Thy Holy Spirit to consume each 00:03:03.58\00:03:06.72 and every one of us. 00:03:06.75\00:03:08.08 How desperately we need to hear from heaven. 00:03:08.12\00:03:09.68 Lord, we just cannot comprehend these Spiritual things 00:03:09.72\00:03:13.02 without the Spirit. 00:03:13.05\00:03:14.39 So we pray that You will help each one who watches, who views, 00:03:14.42\00:03:18.16 listens, whatever the case may be; that each one 00:03:18.19\00:03:20.60 will be tuned in to heaven. 00:03:20.63\00:03:22.26 They'll hear the words that will encourage them along 00:03:22.30\00:03:24.57 life's road to a richer, fuller, deeper experience with You. 00:03:24.60\00:03:28.17 And Lord, we want that experience. 00:03:28.20\00:03:29.64 We need that experience. 00:03:29.67\00:03:31.21 Open now our hearts, and our minds, and our eyes that we may 00:03:31.24\00:03:33.88 see Jesus in a special way, and always be grateful, and thankful 00:03:33.94\00:03:37.75 for all that You do for us, and that You're doing 00:03:37.78\00:03:39.91 right now in our behalf. 00:03:39.98\00:03:41.32 And for that beautiful, wonderful, free gift: 00:03:41.35\00:03:43.75 Calvary, I thank You. 00:03:43.79\00:03:45.39 In Jesus' name, Amen. 00:03:45.42\00:03:46.96 Amen! Amen! We are talking, as I mentioned, 00:03:47.02\00:03:50.59 about overcoming sin. 00:03:50.63\00:03:52.23 Our memory text is found in Romans 6:14, Romans 6:14. 00:03:52.26\00:03:58.93 I invite you to turn to that text with us as we recite 00:03:58.97\00:04:03.27 together: Sin shall not have dominion over you: 00:04:03.30\00:04:07.94 for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 00:04:07.98\00:04:13.05 There is a multiplicity of sermons that can be drawn 00:04:13.08\00:04:16.52 from that one line. 00:04:16.55\00:04:18.19 It is very, very important, and dare I say, very pregnant with 00:04:18.22\00:04:22.59 meaning and import for all of us. 00:04:22.62\00:04:25.06 Two words I want to just touch on: one is dominion, 00:04:25.09\00:04:28.63 the other is under. 00:04:28.66\00:04:30.47 Sin shall not have lordship over you. 00:04:30.53\00:04:35.34 It shall not overlord you. 00:04:35.37\00:04:38.01 The Greek word is koreseu you; koreseu you! 00:04:38.04\00:04:41.91 And it means to have the power to determine, as a lord, 00:04:41.94\00:04:47.32 a lease lord determined what his servant was going to do, 00:04:47.38\00:04:51.19 when he was going to come, when he was going to go, 00:04:51.22\00:04:53.92 how far he was going to move. 00:04:53.96\00:04:56.06 He could not move without permission. 00:04:56.09\00:04:57.89 Well, the Bible is saying in this first line, 00:04:57.93\00:05:01.76 sin is not going to be your controller. 00:05:01.80\00:05:04.33 Sin is not going to dictate your life. 00:05:04.37\00:05:07.14 Sin is not going to force you. 00:05:07.17\00:05:09.20 When I was younger in school, as an Adventist going 00:05:09.24\00:05:13.78 to a secular school, I was on a basketball scholarship, 00:05:13.81\00:05:15.71 the kids in college had to go out on Friday night. 00:05:15.74\00:05:19.81 You know, it was just like there was something, they had to be 00:05:19.85\00:05:22.22 out of that dorm running around in town. 00:05:22.25\00:05:24.19 And it was almost like a lemming kind of thing. 00:05:24.22\00:05:27.19 Everybody at the dorm; it was empty on Friday night. 00:05:27.26\00:05:29.39 And I was in the dorm and trying to behave myself. 00:05:29.42\00:05:32.46 But everybody, it's like it's Friday night; we have to go out. 00:05:32.49\00:05:35.43 We just have to go out. 00:05:35.46\00:05:36.97 And I could never understand that. 00:05:37.03\00:05:38.90 And I was so glad when I got to an Adventist school that 00:05:38.93\00:05:41.14 it was not this push. 00:05:41.17\00:05:42.50 Well, on Friday night we actually had to go out, too. 00:05:42.54\00:05:44.51 It was to worship. You know, it was a Vespers. 00:05:44.54\00:05:47.78 But this idea that you have to go out, and you have to drink, 00:05:47.81\00:05:50.55 and you have... There's this pressure to do what the 00:05:50.61\00:05:52.61 world is trying to do. 00:05:52.65\00:05:53.98 And that's dominion. 00:05:54.02\00:05:55.35 You're not in control of your own facilities. 00:05:55.38\00:05:57.15 In my book I wrote years ago, a young lady went to a party 00:05:57.19\00:06:01.19 and she smoked crack. 00:06:01.22\00:06:02.56 She didn't know that just; crack was so addictive. 00:06:02.59\00:06:04.66 Back in the day they didn't know that from your first 00:06:04.69\00:06:06.86 sampling you're hooked. 00:06:06.93\00:06:08.23 You have no control. It's got you. 00:06:08.26\00:06:09.86 That's dominion, where you're not in control of 00:06:09.90\00:06:12.33 your facilities anymore. 00:06:12.37\00:06:13.74 That's dominion. Well, your Bible is saying sin is not 00:06:13.77\00:06:17.11 going to have that over you when you're in Christ Jesus. 00:06:17.14\00:06:19.51 You're not going to be subject to wherever sin wants to take 00:06:19.54\00:06:22.54 you, and whatever sin wants to do. 00:06:22.58\00:06:23.95 The second word is under. 00:06:23.98\00:06:25.31 I heard it on an illustration years ago about under. 00:06:25.35\00:06:30.29 The illustration was that you would be on a road 00:06:30.32\00:06:34.66 that has no exit points. 00:06:34.69\00:06:36.83 And you're driving on that road, and you are subject to go 00:06:36.86\00:06:41.30 wherever that road leads you, which I thought was an 00:06:41.33\00:06:44.30 interesting way to look at it. 00:06:44.33\00:06:45.67 Under is whatever the logical end is, you've got to go there, 00:06:45.70\00:06:51.07 and you have no choice. 00:06:51.11\00:06:52.44 So if the law is taking you there, and the law is condemning 00:06:52.47\00:06:59.85 you, you have no choice but to go to that end. 00:06:59.88\00:07:03.32 But if you're under grace, and you're on a new road, 00:07:03.35\00:07:06.89 you have no choice but to go to that end. 00:07:06.92\00:07:09.46 And I'd not heard it put quite like that before. 00:07:09.49\00:07:12.19 And I found that very, very intriguing, that you're not 00:07:12.23\00:07:14.40 under the law now, you're under grace. 00:07:14.46\00:07:17.57 It has nothing to do with keeping the law. 00:07:17.60\00:07:19.40 It's where this is taking you. 00:07:19.43\00:07:22.14 The law is condemning you; grace is freeing you. 00:07:22.17\00:07:24.67 And if you stay on that road, that's where you're going to go. 00:07:24.71\00:07:27.08 You're going to go where the law takes you, or you're going to go 00:07:27.11\00:07:29.08 where grace takes you. 00:07:29.11\00:07:30.45 So let's wade on into our opening Saturday. 00:07:30.48\00:07:33.95 The word I want to look at now is hagiasmos. 00:07:34.02\00:07:38.19 Hagiasmos is sanctification, which in the Bible can be used 00:07:38.22\00:07:43.63 interchangeably with holiness. 00:07:43.66\00:07:46.06 And I think there's an interesting little... 00:07:46.09\00:07:49.06 How should I put this? 00:07:50.47\00:07:52.37 We are being sanctified. 00:07:55.17\00:07:58.44 We are sanctified. We have been sanctified. 00:07:58.47\00:08:05.21 And all three are countenanced by these two words: 00:08:05.25\00:08:09.68 sanctification and holiness. 00:08:09.72\00:08:12.49 There was a time when you dedicated your life to God, 00:08:12.52\00:08:16.36 when you gave your life to God, when you 00:08:16.39\00:08:18.56 committed your life to Him. 00:08:18.59\00:08:19.93 At that point you were sanctified. 00:08:19.96\00:08:22.36 Each day as you surrender and walk with God, 00:08:22.40\00:08:25.97 now we are the Sons of God. 1 John:6. 00:08:26.00\00:08:30.71 We are the Sons of God now! 00:08:30.74\00:08:32.07 So you are sanctified. 00:08:32.11\00:08:34.64 And one day you will be sanctified. 00:08:34.68\00:08:39.61 So this is a complete process: your past, your present, 00:08:39.65\00:08:43.12 and your future are all countenanced under 00:08:43.15\00:08:45.45 the word sanctified. 00:08:45.49\00:08:46.86 And that's how we can believe in 1 John 5. 00:08:46.89\00:08:50.13 Is it Verse 11 that says that you ought to know that you 00:08:50.16\00:08:53.90 have sanctification; that you ought to know 00:08:53.93\00:08:55.23 you have eternal life? 00:08:55.26\00:08:56.63 In 1 John 5 the reason you know is because the sanctification, 00:08:56.67\00:09:00.90 the sanctification process is ongoing. 00:09:00.97\00:09:04.27 And it is ongoing throughout the course of your whole life. 00:09:04.34\00:09:08.51 And if at any point in your life... 00:09:08.54\00:09:10.71 And this is what I really like about this 00:09:10.78\00:09:12.31 sanctification process. 00:09:12.35\00:09:13.68 If at any point in your life your life is cut short, 00:09:13.75\00:09:18.02 you are justified and sanctified. 00:09:18.05\00:09:22.79 So if at any point along that continuum your life is cut 00:09:22.82\00:09:27.13 short you are saved. 00:09:27.13\00:09:28.76 Because you're in Christ Jesus. 00:09:28.80\00:09:30.80 So He's taken care of it for you. 00:09:30.87\00:09:33.10 If you've been in church ten years, 00:09:33.13\00:09:36.81 you're ten years in sanctified. 00:09:36.84\00:09:38.17 If you've been 20 you're 20's in sanctified. 00:09:38.21\00:09:39.84 But if at any point during that time you die; sanctified, 00:09:39.87\00:09:43.24 and the blood of Christ cleanses you from all sin. 00:09:43.28\00:09:45.08 It's a wonderful, intricate, and intimate process 00:09:45.11\00:09:48.35 that we're looking at. 00:09:48.38\00:09:49.72 So we want to look at overcoming sin. 00:09:49.75\00:09:51.09 I want to jump over to Sunday, and Where Sin Abounds. 00:09:51.12\00:09:55.59 Let's look at, let's look at Romans 6, and I want to look at 00:09:55.62\00:10:14.08 Verse 1 here, and then I'll make a quick jump. 00:10:14.14\00:10:17.01 What shall we say then? 00:10:17.05\00:10:19.28 Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 00:10:19.31\00:10:22.78 Certainly not. How shall we, who died to sin, 00:10:22.82\00:10:26.05 live any longer in it? 00:10:26.09\00:10:28.12 Paul makes some powerful statements. 00:10:33.19\00:10:34.73 In Romans 5:20 he says, Where sin abounded, 00:10:34.76\00:10:38.70 grace did much more abound. 00:10:38.73\00:10:40.94 His point is that no matter how much sin there is, 00:10:40.97\00:10:43.97 or how terrible the results of sin are, God's grace is 00:10:44.04\00:10:47.51 sufficient to deal with it. 00:10:47.54\00:10:49.71 That is a powerful, powerful statement for those who've been 00:10:49.74\00:10:54.28 sinning a long time. 00:10:54.32\00:10:55.98 You can fall so far in sin that even as you're praying for 00:10:56.02\00:11:00.36 deliverance you don't believe that deliverance can come. 00:11:00.39\00:11:02.72 That's how the Devil can rearrange your thought process. 00:11:02.76\00:11:07.50 But the truth is there's nothing you have done, there's nothing 00:11:07.50\00:11:12.83 you are doing, there's nothing you can do that Christ has not 00:11:12.87\00:11:17.57 seen before, dealt with before, and cured before. 00:11:17.61\00:11:21.78 So even when you feel your sins are too ugly for you, 00:11:21.81\00:11:26.05 Christ can cure you, clean you; Ellen White says inherited 00:11:26.08\00:11:32.59 tendencies, and cultivated tendencies. 00:11:32.62\00:11:35.39 There are some things that your parents got; just give you. 00:11:35.42\00:11:38.59 When I went into the hospital for my surgery the doctor said, 00:11:38.63\00:11:43.53 this cholesterol thing is a little gift from your parents. 00:11:43.60\00:11:45.70 You know, you have got nothing to do with that. 00:11:45.73\00:11:47.57 He said, This other is probably stress. 00:11:47.60\00:11:49.87 But he said a lot of this is because of the way it's in 00:11:50.87\00:11:54.24 your veins and whatnot. It's hereditary. 00:11:54.28\00:11:57.58 So that's something I got from my parents. 00:11:57.61\00:11:59.38 So it's the same way with sin. 00:11:59.41\00:12:00.82 You can get predispositions from your parents. 00:12:00.85\00:12:02.92 You can get, you can get short temper, you know. 00:12:02.95\00:12:06.02 You can get the way you... You can get addictive personality. 00:12:06.05\00:12:08.89 A lot of that stuff you just got from your parents. 00:12:08.92\00:12:10.83 And then you go out and you add stuff, you know? 00:12:10.86\00:12:12.66 You go out and pick up stuff along the way. 00:12:12.69\00:12:14.20 And Christ can cure us from genetic stuff, and He can cure 00:12:14.30\00:12:19.93 us from stuff that you just thought was pretty cute, 00:12:20.00\00:12:22.17 so you went on and you grabbed the little brass ring, 00:12:22.20\00:12:24.07 and you found out that it was fools gold. 00:12:24.11\00:12:25.81 It wasn't a ring at all. 00:12:25.84\00:12:27.18 Which is why, you know, the big discussion now... 00:12:27.24\00:12:30.21 And I'll move on to this. 00:12:30.25\00:12:32.25 ... is homosexuality. 00:12:32.28\00:12:34.18 Is it inherited, or is it something that you 00:12:34.22\00:12:40.96 get, you go and get? 00:12:40.99\00:12:42.32 And I think for scientific purposes that is a good study, 00:12:42.36\00:12:45.96 because it's good to know. 00:12:45.99\00:12:47.36 But for spiritual purposes it doesn't really matter. 00:12:47.40\00:12:50.00 Because whether you've got it from your parents, 00:12:50.03\00:12:51.97 or whether you picked it up along the way, if you want to be 00:12:52.00\00:12:56.37 clean He is faithful and just to forgive. 00:12:56.40\00:12:59.11 And praise God, we've talked about this before, two cleanse. 00:12:59.14\00:13:01.64 So how you got there... 00:13:01.68\00:13:03.95 You know, we have a prison program, Free Indeed. 00:13:03.98\00:13:06.48 One question that's asked in prison, How you got here? 00:13:06.72\00:13:08.72 What are you doing here? 00:13:08.75\00:13:10.09 It occurs to me in hell that question will not be answered. 00:13:10.12\00:13:14.06 How did you get here? 00:13:14.09\00:13:15.42 Cause it doesn't matter. 00:13:15.46\00:13:16.83 You know, it doesn't matter. 00:13:16.86\00:13:18.19 There's another place it won't be asked is in heaven. 00:13:18.23\00:13:19.56 Cause it doesn't matter. 00:13:19.59\00:13:20.93 Because you all got here through Jesus. 00:13:20.96\00:13:22.26 If you got there it's through the blood of the Lamb. 00:13:22.30\00:13:24.07 So you are a saint because God calls you a saint. 00:13:24.13\00:13:28.54 And you are being sanctified. 00:13:28.57\00:13:30.77 One more thing and then I'll let it go. 00:13:30.81\00:13:32.97 Paul's apologetic is that provision is made for all sin. 00:13:33.01\00:13:41.65 The difference in dealing with an illness is not just 00:13:44.92\00:13:50.59 treating it, but curing it. 00:13:50.63\00:13:54.13 And that's what the blood of Christ does. 00:13:54.20\00:13:56.60 It treats it. It also cures it. 00:13:56.63\00:14:01.07 He is faithful and just to forgive and to cleanse, 00:14:01.10\00:14:05.57 and He gives us the hope of a clean future. 00:14:05.61\00:14:10.25 He gives us the hope of a life without sin. 00:14:10.28\00:14:14.35 We can be in the presence of sin, but we do not have to be 00:14:14.38\00:14:18.15 sinful, because we died to sin. 00:14:18.19\00:14:22.99 And as we died to sin, we live for Jesus. 00:14:23.02\00:14:27.20 We become slaves, if you will, of righteousness. 00:14:27.23\00:14:32.07 And just as we were slaves to sin, we now get new tastes, 00:14:32.10\00:14:36.47 new habits, new facilities that make us sons and daughters 00:14:36.50\00:14:41.94 of God, indeed slaves to God, and slaves to righteousness. 00:14:41.98\00:14:48.18 Amen! Thank you so much, Pastor C. A. Well done. 00:14:48.22\00:14:51.22 As we look at Monday we talk about, Where Sin Reigns. 00:14:51.25\00:14:56.89 Let's look at Romans 6, and we're going to look at Verse 12. 00:14:56.93\00:15:02.10 The Bible says, Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal 00:15:02.13\00:15:08.14 body, that you should obey it in its lust. 00:15:08.17\00:15:11.87 Now the word for reign is an interesting word. 00:15:11.91\00:15:14.18 I can't pronounce it: basilyoo'o something. 00:15:14.21\00:15:19.21 But it means to reign as a king. 00:15:19.25\00:15:22.52 To exercise dominion over, or to rule. 00:15:22.55\00:15:26.52 Now it's also used in Romans 5, talking about 00:15:26.55\00:15:30.53 sin reigning as well. 00:15:30.56\00:15:31.89 Romans 5:14, Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses... 00:15:31.93\00:15:36.67 That word for reign is the same word. 00:15:36.73\00:15:38.93 It means to reign as a king. 00:15:38.97\00:15:41.60 To have dominion over. 00:15:41.64\00:15:43.87 It's also used in Romans 5:17. 00:15:43.91\00:15:47.34 For if by one man's offense... Meaning Adam's death. 00:15:47.38\00:15:51.45 ...death reigned through the one;... 00:15:51.48\00:15:53.38 There's that word reigned. 00:15:53.42\00:15:54.75 And then, of course, we have it in Romans 6:12. 00:15:54.78\00:15:56.69 Do not let sin reign in your mortal body. 00:15:56.75\00:16:00.49 So Paul is using, we call it in English, a personification. 00:16:00.52\00:16:03.96 Where you would take... It's the attribution of a personal 00:16:03.99\00:16:07.83 nature, or a human characteristic to 00:16:07.86\00:16:10.67 something non-human. 00:16:10.70\00:16:12.03 Of course, we know sin is not human, as it were. 00:16:12.07\00:16:14.50 But yet at the same time he's making it, he's attributing a 00:16:14.54\00:16:19.07 personal characteristic. 00:16:19.11\00:16:21.11 He's personifying sin as a king, which we could all agree. 00:16:21.14\00:16:25.21 Sin could be like a king ruling over its subjects. 00:16:25.25\00:16:28.82 And if I were to say sin is a king, 00:16:28.85\00:16:30.79 it is a cruel tyrant, you could say. 00:16:30.82\00:16:33.89 He says, Do not let sin reign in your mortal body, 00:16:33.96\00:16:37.76 that you should obey it in its lust. 00:16:37.79\00:16:40.00 Now Verse 12 begins with Therefore, which means we need 00:16:40.03\00:16:43.63 to take a look at some of the verses before. 00:16:43.67\00:16:46.33 Paul talks about the analogy of baptism. 00:16:46.37\00:16:50.17 That's in Verse 4, and we won't read all of that. 00:16:50.21\00:16:52.41 But just as we're buried with Christ through baptism into 00:16:52.44\00:16:56.71 death, then we're raised with Him into that newness of life. 00:16:56.75\00:17:01.62 This death, being like a burial, and then the 00:17:01.65\00:17:05.32 resurrection to the new life. 00:17:05.35\00:17:07.29 Look at Verse 11. Likewise you also reckon yourselves to be 00:17:07.32\00:17:10.99 dead indeed unto sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 00:17:11.03\00:17:18.20 Sin wants to assume authority, or to rule over our lives. 00:17:18.23\00:17:22.94 It wants to dictate our behavior. 00:17:22.97\00:17:26.11 I remember one of the girls when I did the prison ministry 00:17:26.14\00:17:29.68 with the girls at jail. 00:17:29.71\00:17:31.05 I'll call her Grace. 00:17:31.08\00:17:32.41 That's not her real name. 00:17:32.45\00:17:33.82 And she was in jail for some time, 00:17:33.85\00:17:35.18 and then she came out of jail, cause we didn't see her. 00:17:35.22\00:17:37.95 And they said, Oh, she got released. 00:17:37.99\00:17:39.32 And we said, Praise God! She's out! 00:17:39.35\00:17:41.22 And then a few months later... 00:17:41.26\00:17:42.86 We're having our weekly Monday night Bible study. 00:17:42.89\00:17:45.06 ... here's Grace! What's she doing back in? 00:17:45.09\00:17:48.56 And she told me an interesting story. 00:17:48.60\00:17:51.00 She said that I got out... And she had been in for drugs. 00:17:51.03\00:17:54.57 She had gotten clean in jail, and she was going to not let 00:17:54.60\00:17:58.01 that sin of drug addiction rule over her life. 00:17:58.04\00:18:01.01 And she went back out, and you know the old acquaintances, 00:18:01.04\00:18:04.65 the old associations, is a strong pull in anyone's life. 00:18:04.68\00:18:09.82 I know in my own life. 00:18:09.85\00:18:11.42 And so she got out, and her family and some friends 00:18:11.45\00:18:14.19 were involved in it. 00:18:14.22\00:18:15.56 And she said, Jill... I remember she's just crying! 00:18:15.59\00:18:18.06 My cousin died in my arms; drugs. 00:18:18.09\00:18:23.87 She didn't mean to OD. 00:18:23.90\00:18:25.77 She didn't mean to take too much, it just happened 00:18:25.80\00:18:27.94 at that particular time. 00:18:27.97\00:18:29.30 It killed her, and she said she died. 00:18:29.34\00:18:31.34 And Jill, I went right out and I got high again. 00:18:31.37\00:18:34.84 That is the control that sin has over our lives. 00:18:34.88\00:18:40.32 Now you might not have a drug addiction; 00:18:40.35\00:18:41.95 it might be another kind of addiction. 00:18:41.98\00:18:43.62 It might be a habit. 00:18:43.69\00:18:45.02 It might be something sinful in your life. 00:18:45.05\00:18:47.06 We all have something, because the Bible says, All have sinned 00:18:47.09\00:18:50.33 and fallen short of the glory of God. 00:18:50.36\00:18:53.09 It might feel in your life like it's tightly controlling 00:18:53.13\00:18:57.83 you, but the truth is God came to set us free. 00:18:57.87\00:19:02.47 I want to talk for just a moment about the power of choice; 00:19:02.50\00:19:05.37 the right action of the will. 00:19:05.41\00:19:08.08 God gave us choice in the Garden of Eden, Pastor C. A., 00:19:08.11\00:19:10.91 so that Adam and Eve, they would serve Him 00:19:10.98\00:19:12.65 out of love, not out of fear. 00:19:12.68\00:19:15.15 Yet, Ms. Mollie, He also gave us choice, so that it enables us to 00:19:15.18\00:19:20.39 have victory over sin. 00:19:20.42\00:19:22.82 And I think one of the biggest keys with that is the 00:19:22.86\00:19:25.99 choice to surrender. Amen! 00:19:26.03\00:19:28.00 I think surrender, sometimes we think it's a complicated topic. 00:19:28.03\00:19:31.97 It's a complicated subject. 00:19:32.00\00:19:33.74 And it's really not hard, except it puts to death our carnal 00:19:33.77\00:19:37.51 nature, and our own desires. 00:19:37.54\00:19:39.37 And that's what makes it seem difficult. 00:19:39.41\00:19:41.71 But the concept is just simply, Lord Jesus, every time I'm faced 00:19:41.74\00:19:45.78 with the choice I say, Yes, to Jesus. 00:19:45.81\00:19:49.72 To me that's all surrender is. 00:19:49.75\00:19:51.95 In the morning I wake up; God I give you my heart. 00:19:51.99\00:19:54.92 I want to be dead to the old man. 00:19:54.96\00:19:57.06 I want to live a new life in Christ Jesus. 00:19:57.13\00:20:00.80 I say yes to Jesus, and then all of a sudden I'm driving 00:20:00.83\00:20:03.93 in to work, and someone cuts you off in traffic, 00:20:03.97\00:20:05.97 and you have a choice. 00:20:06.00\00:20:07.60 Okay, I want to get upset at this person, or I can say, 00:20:07.64\00:20:10.77 yes to Jesus; take my emotions at this point. 00:20:10.81\00:20:14.18 I'm choosing You. Amen! 00:20:14.24\00:20:15.58 That gives Him access to come in and give me victory. 00:20:15.61\00:20:20.52 You get to work and someone calls on the phone, 00:20:20.58\00:20:23.02 or whatever it is in life. 00:20:23.05\00:20:24.49 Maybe it's a cigarette. 00:20:24.52\00:20:26.05 You think, Oh, I really want a go out and smoke! 00:20:26.09\00:20:28.89 The choice at that time; surrender, say yes to Jesus. 00:20:28.92\00:20:34.03 Romans 8:2, just a chapter over here, two chapters. 00:20:34.10\00:20:37.23 Romans 8:2, and we'll get to this in our study, 00:20:37.30\00:20:39.97 but I love this. It says, For the law of the Spirit of life 00:20:40.00\00:20:42.77 in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 00:20:42.80\00:20:48.91 Choosing Jesus allows you to access His power. 00:20:48.94\00:20:52.81 Or maybe a better way to put it is it allows Him to fill you 00:20:52.85\00:20:57.12 with His power, and to give you that victory over sin. 00:20:57.15\00:21:01.39 Sometimes we say, Well, I'm not really making a choice. 00:21:01.42\00:21:05.56 I'm just living my life. 00:21:05.59\00:21:07.00 But if we don't make a choice, we are automatically making 00:21:07.03\00:21:10.83 a choice for the enemy. 00:21:10.87\00:21:12.47 Matthew 12:30. Let me turn there real quick. 00:21:12.50\00:21:17.71 Matthew 12:30. Jesus speaking. 00:21:17.74\00:21:21.34 He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather 00:21:21.38\00:21:26.28 with Me scatters abroad. 00:21:26.31\00:21:27.85 So if I just wake up and I say, I'll just live 00:21:27.88\00:21:30.05 my life my own way. 00:21:30.09\00:21:31.42 I've made a choice already to serve the Devil; 00:21:31.45\00:21:34.36 to serve the enemy. 00:21:34.39\00:21:35.72 We have to make a choice instantly for 00:21:35.76\00:21:38.33 the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:21:38.36\00:21:39.69 And as we make those choices, I just divided them up into 00:21:39.73\00:21:42.06 three different areas in the remaining time we have. 00:21:42.10\00:21:44.67 First is thoughts, second is words, third is habits, 00:21:44.70\00:21:50.34 actions, addictions. 00:21:50.37\00:21:52.47 To me they all fall in the outward outworking. 00:21:52.51\00:21:54.61 But to me it all begins with our thoughts. 00:21:54.64\00:21:56.71 It begins, sin begins in the mind. 00:21:56.78\00:21:58.45 It begins with what we think first, and then we act that out. 00:21:58.48\00:22:02.32 One of my favorite Scriptures, 2 Corinthians 10:4, 5. 00:22:02.35\00:22:12.19 Paul says,... Let's start with Verse 3. 00:22:12.23\00:22:14.30 Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war 00:22:14.36\00:22:16.40 according to the flesh:... 00:22:16.43\00:22:17.77 Cause we try to fight this battle against sin 00:22:17.80\00:22:19.40 in our own strength. 00:22:19.43\00:22:20.80 We are destined to fail every time. 00:22:20.84\00:22:23.07 Verse 4. So we can't battle it in the flesh. 00:22:23.10\00:22:27.04 We have to battle it in the Spiritual. 00:22:27.08\00:22:28.68 (The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God 00:22:28.71\00:22:33.01 for pulling down strongholds;) Casting down arguments... 00:22:33.05\00:22:37.35 Or King James says imaginations. 00:22:37.39\00:22:40.32 ...and every high thing that exalts itself against 00:22:40.36\00:22:43.22 the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every 00:22:43.26\00:22:46.09 thought to the obedience of Christ;... 00:22:46.13\00:22:48.10 You know, this happens all the time. 00:22:48.13\00:22:50.63 Our thoughts are constantly pulled in a 00:22:50.70\00:22:53.13 myriad of directions. 00:22:53.17\00:22:54.50 You're having prayer in the morning. 00:22:54.54\00:22:56.00 Lord Jesus I thank You for today. 00:22:56.04\00:22:57.74 I give You my life. 00:22:57.77\00:22:59.11 BOOM! Jill, you didn't send so-and-so an email. 00:22:59.14\00:23:01.81 Where'd that thought come from? 00:23:01.84\00:23:03.28 Okay, Lord, I'm getting back. 00:23:03.35\00:23:05.18 BOOM! Another thought comes in. 00:23:05.21\00:23:07.02 Those thoughts constantly bombard us. 00:23:07.05\00:23:09.38 And we have a choice at that moment, 00:23:09.42\00:23:11.65 God I'm giving You my thoughts; redirecting the mind, 00:23:11.72\00:23:15.89 bringing the thoughts back to Jesus, replacing a negative 00:23:15.92\00:23:19.49 thought with a positive, replacing a negative 00:23:19.53\00:23:22.53 thought with Scripture. 00:23:22.56\00:23:24.33 They overcame him by blood of the Lamb, and the word of their 00:23:24.37\00:23:27.64 testimony, and they loved not their lives to the death. 00:23:27.67\00:23:30.17 Or with a Psalm. Second thing is words. 00:23:30.21\00:23:33.64 Choose our words carefully. 00:23:33.68\00:23:35.01 Mollie, you quote this a lot. 00:23:35.04\00:23:36.38 Ephesians 4:29. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of 00:23:36.41\00:23:40.98 your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, 00:23:41.02\00:23:43.75 that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 00:23:43.79\00:23:46.92 Choose the words that you speak. 00:23:46.96\00:23:49.16 Psalm 141:3. I pray this almost every morning 00:23:49.19\00:23:53.76 cause I really need it. 00:23:53.80\00:23:55.60 I can speak sometimes before I think. 00:23:55.63\00:23:59.83 It says, Lord, set a watch over my mouth; 00:23:59.87\00:24:04.11 keep the door of my lips. 00:24:04.14\00:24:06.51 God guard me in that. 00:24:06.54\00:24:08.84 Then we don't have time for those addictions and habits, 00:24:08.91\00:24:11.91 but look up Romans 4:12. 00:24:11.98\00:24:13.95 The word of God transforms us. 00:24:14.02\00:24:17.19 2 Corinthians 3:18. Spend time beholding Jesus. 00:24:17.22\00:24:22.16 Romans 12:1, 2. Let Him transform you by the 00:24:22.19\00:24:27.10 renewing of your mind. 00:24:27.13\00:24:28.93 So what God wants to do, I think, in a special way, 00:24:28.96\00:24:32.37 as we put to death the old man, the old man of sin, 00:24:32.40\00:24:35.74 really it comes down to that surrender; 00:24:35.77\00:24:38.41 making a choice for Jesus. 00:24:38.44\00:24:40.18 And then it's not me gritting my teeth, or me trying harder. 00:24:40.24\00:24:43.71 It's allowing God, by the power of His Holy Spirit, to fill me 00:24:43.75\00:24:48.75 with His grace, with His goodness, and to change me 00:24:48.78\00:24:52.42 from the inside out. 00:24:52.45\00:24:53.82 Excellent, and thank God for His grace. 00:24:53.86\00:24:56.73 You know, my portion of Scripture is Tuesday. 00:24:56.79\00:25:00.66 I'm going to start with Romans 6:14. 00:25:00.73\00:25:03.67 And what Tuesday is entitled is, Not Under Law, But Under Grace. 00:25:03.70\00:25:08.37 What Jill was talking about: Not Under Law, But Under Grace. 00:25:08.40\00:25:13.78 Romans 6:14. For sin shall not have... Miss Jill was teaching. 00:25:13.81\00:25:19.08 ...dominion over me:... Rule over me. 00:25:19.11\00:25:22.52 ...for you are not under law, but under grace. 00:25:22.55\00:25:26.15 What does that mean, you're not under law but under grace? 00:25:26.19\00:25:32.03 Does that mean that we no longer are responsible to obey the law, 00:25:32.06\00:25:37.27 because the law has been replaced by grace? 00:25:37.33\00:25:40.64 You know, some would say that's what it means. 00:25:40.70\00:25:43.97 Some would say that because we're under grace we no longer 00:25:44.01\00:25:49.84 have to keep the law. 00:25:49.88\00:25:52.15 I want to look at that. 00:25:52.18\00:25:54.42 And we're talking about the moral law of God, 00:25:54.45\00:25:57.05 the Ten Commandment law. 00:25:57.09\00:25:58.69 You see, it's a sin issue when someone would reject that moral 00:25:58.72\00:26:07.40 law of God and say, No, we're under grace! 00:26:07.46\00:26:09.76 It's a sin issue. Quite often when you find someone holding 00:26:09.80\00:26:15.10 tenaciously to error, it's because that error allows them 00:26:15.14\00:26:20.41 to sin, whereas the truth renounces 00:26:20.48\00:26:25.08 and calls sin what it is. 00:26:25.11\00:26:27.35 You see, men love darkness rather than light. Why? 00:26:27.42\00:26:33.19 Because their deeds are evil. 00:26:33.22\00:26:36.36 So let's look at what sin is. 00:26:36.39\00:26:39.46 1 John 3:4. Whosoever committeth sin transgresses also the law. 00:26:39.49\00:26:47.30 For sin is the transgression of the law. 00:26:47.34\00:26:49.97 So do away with the law. Hey, what? No sin. 00:26:50.01\00:26:52.91 Now why do men love darkness rather than light? 00:26:52.94\00:26:57.25 Because their deeds are evil. 00:26:57.31\00:26:58.71 It's a sin issue. If we break God's law by sinning... 00:26:58.75\00:27:05.15 Think about this... then we come under the law. 00:27:05.19\00:27:09.32 It's over us. It has a claim on our life. 00:27:09.36\00:27:14.20 Now what makes the law have a claim on our life? 00:27:14.23\00:27:17.57 It's when we sin that law comes over us, 00:27:17.60\00:27:21.27 because we have broken the law. 00:27:21.30\00:27:23.61 It's if I'm riding down the road going 80 miles an hour, 00:27:23.64\00:27:27.81 I've broken the law. 00:27:27.84\00:27:29.68 Do you know the police can pull me over and give me a ticket? 00:27:29.71\00:27:33.21 And the last time I knew anything about 00:27:33.25\00:27:35.68 this they cost $75.00. 00:27:35.72\00:27:37.82 But as long as I'm going 60 miles an hour, do you know that 00:27:37.85\00:27:42.86 law has no dominion over me. 00:27:42.89\00:27:45.33 Do I make a parallel here? 00:27:45.36\00:27:47.73 It is only those who keep the law that are not under the law. 00:27:47.76\00:27:53.90 Think about that. If you keep the law 00:27:53.94\00:27:55.64 you're not under the law. 00:27:55.67\00:27:57.01 It has no claim over your life if you keep the law. 00:27:57.07\00:28:01.31 Romans 4:15 tells us, where no law is, 00:28:01.34\00:28:05.01 there is no transgression. 00:28:05.05\00:28:06.61 Matthew 5:17. Do not think that I have come 00:28:06.65\00:28:12.19 to destroy the law,... Who's saying this? 00:28:12.22\00:28:14.12 Whose words are these? 00:28:14.19\00:28:15.52 Jesus says, Don't you think that I've come to destroy the law, 00:28:15.56\00:28:20.23 or the prophets: I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill. 00:28:20.26\00:28:25.30 Now I want to make some statements. 00:28:25.33\00:28:27.17 Jesus didn't come to set us free from the law. 00:28:27.24\00:28:32.71 He came to free us from sin. 00:28:32.74\00:28:35.91 He didn't come to set us free from the law. 00:28:35.98\00:28:39.41 He came to set us free from sin. 00:28:39.45\00:28:41.55 He didn't need to free us from the law, because the law never 00:28:41.58\00:28:46.29 put us in bondage in the first place. 00:28:46.32\00:28:48.39 You don't need to be freed for something 00:28:48.42\00:28:50.43 you're not in bondage to. 00:28:50.46\00:28:52.79 Sin puts you in bondage. 00:28:52.83\00:28:55.06 You need to be freed from sin not the law. 00:28:55.10\00:28:58.20 Do you, are you catching the parallel here? 00:28:58.23\00:29:01.30 Our freedom in Christ is freedom from sin, not freedom to ignore 00:29:01.34\00:29:08.41 the holiness of God, nor the freedom to ignore 00:29:08.44\00:29:11.91 the Ten Commandments. 00:29:11.95\00:29:13.28 See, the holiness of God, when you start talking about being 00:29:13.31\00:29:16.82 holy for He is holy, then there's, Yeah, you're trying to 00:29:16.85\00:29:20.49 bring us into bondage. 00:29:20.52\00:29:21.86 No! Christ never freed us from the holiness of God. 00:29:21.89\00:29:26.23 We have been predestined to be conformed to what? 00:29:26.29\00:29:30.77 To the very image of the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:29:30.80\00:29:33.84 That does not mean externally. 00:29:33.87\00:29:35.84 None of... Jill, you are never going to look like the person 00:29:35.87\00:29:40.48 of the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:29:40.51\00:29:41.84 We have been predestined to be conformed to the image 00:29:41.88\00:29:45.38 of the Lord Jesus Christ on the inside. 00:29:45.41\00:29:48.42 What is Christ? He is holiness. 00:29:48.45\00:29:51.45 And so we are to be conformed internally into the image and 00:29:51.49\00:29:56.16 likeness of the Lord Jesus Christ; 00:29:56.19\00:29:58.09 to have that holiness at work within us. 00:29:58.16\00:30:00.73 Adhering to the moral law, the Ten Commandments don't make 00:30:00.80\00:30:06.13 you a legalist, or bring you into bondage. 00:30:06.17\00:30:10.17 Adhering to the moral law of God is liberating. 00:30:10.21\00:30:14.88 It frees you from bondage. 00:30:14.91\00:30:17.41 Remember, Jesus didn't come to free us from the law, 00:30:17.45\00:30:21.58 because you don't need to be freed from something 00:30:21.62\00:30:25.72 you're not in bondage to. 00:30:25.75\00:30:27.22 What we are in bondage to is sin. 00:30:27.26\00:30:30.73 Christ came to free us from sin. 00:30:30.79\00:30:34.13 Grace doesn't do away with the moral law of God. 00:30:34.20\00:30:37.43 Grace is God's unmerited pardon of our sins, making it possible 00:30:37.50\00:30:43.27 for us to be obedient, through the Holy Spirit that is given 00:30:43.34\00:30:49.08 to those that obey God's commandments. 00:30:49.11\00:30:52.41 Ephesians 2:8. For by grace you have been saved... through what? 00:30:52.45\00:30:59.49 ...through faith; and that not of yourselves: 00:30:59.52\00:31:02.56 it is the gift of God:... What does it go on to say? 00:31:02.59\00:31:05.79 ...Not of works, lest any man should boast. 00:31:05.86\00:31:08.43 Now I want to give us two sets of Scriptures. 00:31:08.46\00:31:11.13 Well, first I want us to look at John 14:15. 00:31:11.17\00:31:17.57 And I know we have... 00:31:17.61\00:31:19.04 We know this one by heart, don't we? 00:31:19.07\00:31:20.44 We should! John 14:15, and then I'm going to have you 00:31:20.48\00:31:24.78 look in 1 John 2:3, 4. 00:31:24.81\00:31:28.25 What does John 14, 15 say? 00:31:28.28\00:31:31.69 If you love me keep My commandments. 00:31:31.72\00:31:35.62 Well, how many of you love the Lord Jesus Christ? 00:31:35.66\00:31:37.86 It doesn't say if you love Me have the ewie gooies, 00:31:37.89\00:31:41.66 and feel all tingly on the inside. 00:31:41.70\00:31:43.80 If you love Me pay your tithes every Sabbath morning. 00:31:43.83\00:31:48.34 We need to pay our tithes. 00:31:48.37\00:31:49.77 But that's not what the Scripture says proves 00:31:49.80\00:31:52.91 that you love the Lord. 00:31:52.94\00:31:54.28 That could be if you think, Oh if I pay my tithes that's proof 00:31:54.31\00:31:58.38 that I love the Lord. 00:31:58.41\00:31:59.75 Then that could be like trying to buy your way into heaven. 00:31:59.78\00:32:02.58 No, if you love Me do something: keep My commandments. 00:32:02.62\00:32:06.35 And then 1 John 2:3, 4. 00:32:06.39\00:32:08.52 And hereby we do know that we... Pardon me. 00:32:08.56\00:32:13.43 Yes, I said it right. 00:32:13.50\00:32:14.83 And hereby we do know that we know Him if we... what? 00:32:14.83\00:32:19.77 If we keep His commandments. 00:32:19.80\00:32:21.94 He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, 00:32:22.04\00:32:25.61 is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 00:32:25.64\00:32:28.61 So if you love Me, keep My commandments. 00:32:28.64\00:32:31.31 Now that we have cleared up that the law brings us liberty, 00:32:31.35\00:32:38.65 that the law doesn't bring us into bondage. 00:32:38.69\00:32:41.69 The law never put anyone into bondage. 00:32:41.72\00:32:44.09 The law brings us liberty. 00:32:44.13\00:32:46.26 It's sin that puts you into bondage. 00:32:46.29\00:32:48.33 There is a law... Now we're talking about the 00:32:48.36\00:32:51.23 Ten Commandment law. 00:32:51.27\00:32:52.60 The moral law of God doesn't bring you into bondage. 00:32:52.63\00:32:54.74 There is a law that we've been freed from. 00:32:54.77\00:32:57.24 And I think I'm sure everybody here has already used this 00:32:57.27\00:33:00.21 Scripture, but I'm going to use it again. 00:33:00.28\00:33:01.98 That would be Romans 8:1, 2. 00:33:02.01\00:33:04.78 So run over to Romans 8:1, 2. 00:33:04.81\00:33:07.72 And that Scripture says, There is therefore now no condemnation 00:33:07.75\00:33:13.15 to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the 00:33:13.19\00:33:17.43 flesh, but after the Spirit. 00:33:17.46\00:33:20.30 Now here's Verse 2. 00:33:20.33\00:33:23.10 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me 00:33:23.13\00:33:29.30 free from the law of sin and death. 00:33:29.34\00:33:32.07 You have been set free from the law of sin and death. 00:33:32.11\00:33:34.81 See, before you made Jesus Christ the Lord of your life, 00:33:34.84\00:33:37.68 you were under the law of sin and death. 00:33:37.71\00:33:40.38 Sin had dominion over you. 00:33:40.42\00:33:42.88 The law of death had you captive. 00:33:42.92\00:33:45.99 But when you made Jesus Christ the Lord of your life you came 00:33:46.02\00:33:49.69 out of darkness and into light. 00:33:49.72\00:33:51.59 Then the law of the Spirit of life... This is the law 00:33:51.63\00:33:54.56 that you're under now. 00:33:54.60\00:33:55.93 The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus sets you free from 00:33:55.96\00:34:00.44 the law of sin and death. 00:34:00.47\00:34:02.10 The Ten Commandment law of God was in effect before it was 00:34:02.14\00:34:06.04 written by God Himself on the tablets of stone at Mount Sinai. 00:34:06.07\00:34:11.75 Its always been in effect. 00:34:11.78\00:34:13.82 Its in effect currently. 00:34:13.85\00:34:15.55 It will always be in effect. 00:34:15.58\00:34:17.59 You're not set free from that. 00:34:17.62\00:34:19.49 That law gives you freedom and liberty. 00:34:19.52\00:34:22.89 But that law of sin and death no longer has dominion over you 00:34:22.92\00:34:27.30 through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:34:27.30\00:34:29.13 Sister Shelley. Amen! Well, done Mollie Sue. 00:34:29.16\00:34:31.87 I'm going to go a totally different way than I'd planned 00:34:31.90\00:34:35.07 to go on this, because I just have to touch on this. 00:34:35.10\00:34:37.67 My lesson is Wednesday's lesson, Sin or Obedience. 00:34:37.71\00:34:44.81 We're talking about overcoming sin. 00:34:44.85\00:34:46.68 But Romans 6 is so rich, and it is so meaningful to me. 00:34:46.72\00:34:51.32 And let me share why. 00:34:51.35\00:34:52.69 I've been baptized four times. 00:34:52.72\00:34:54.36 The first three times it was hell insurance. 00:34:54.39\00:34:56.79 In other words, I was taught that if I wasn't baptized just 00:34:56.83\00:35:00.76 right I'd go to hell. 00:35:00.83\00:35:02.40 So I'd get dunked, is what I call it. 00:35:02.43\00:35:05.80 I mean, seriously, I'd get dunked. 00:35:05.83\00:35:07.87 But then one day I was reading Romans 6, and I understood 00:35:07.90\00:35:13.04 what the meaning of baptism was. 00:35:13.07\00:35:15.81 That it was symbolic. 00:35:15.84\00:35:17.58 But Paul says that when we were baptized into Christ, 00:35:17.65\00:35:22.05 we were baptized into His death. 00:35:22.08\00:35:24.19 It says in Verse 3, that we came up; we were buried with 00:35:24.22\00:35:28.29 Him through baptism. 00:35:28.32\00:35:29.86 That means we were baptized into His death, and we came up 00:35:29.89\00:35:33.63 in the likeness of His resurrection; that we would 00:35:33.70\00:35:36.40 walk in newness of life. 00:35:36.43\00:35:38.40 And he says if we'd been united... In Verse 5. 00:35:38.43\00:35:41.20 ...together in the likeness of His death, so will we be united 00:35:41.24\00:35:44.54 in the likeness of His life. 00:35:44.57\00:35:46.31 So he goes on in Verse 6 saying, ... our old man was crucified... 00:35:46.34\00:35:50.01 ...the body of sin that might be done away with,... 00:35:50.05\00:35:52.65 And he says that we buried it. 00:35:52.68\00:35:55.02 Now when I understood that, Kenny, 00:35:55.05\00:35:58.45 I surrendered to the Lord, and I understood that I was to die 00:36:00.22\00:36:05.33 to self and be raised. 00:36:05.36\00:36:08.20 And then I was re-baptized to show that this is what, 00:36:08.23\00:36:12.37 you know, it's just symbolically showing what God has done in me. 00:36:12.40\00:36:16.10 That's what baptism is all about. 00:36:16.14\00:36:18.37 Well, now as Jill brought out, it... 00:36:18.41\00:36:22.78 Well, let me look at Verse 10. 00:36:22.81\00:36:24.41 He says, the death that Christ died, He died to sin once 00:36:24.45\00:36:28.62 and for all, but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 00:36:28.65\00:36:31.95 So sin was dethroned. 00:36:31.99\00:36:33.69 We're talking about sin reigning. 00:36:33.76\00:36:35.46 And sin was dethroned. 00:36:35.49\00:36:38.63 And then he says, reckon yourself also dead to sin,... 00:36:38.66\00:36:42.93 And Verse 11, and he says in 12, Do not let sin reign in your 00:36:42.96\00:36:47.50 mortal body that you should obey it in its lusts. 00:36:47.54\00:36:51.67 We're not supposed to let sin... I mean we've got a choice. 00:36:51.71\00:36:55.68 There's two contending masters: there's sin, 00:36:55.71\00:36:59.11 and there's righteousness. 00:36:59.15\00:37:00.65 There's two contending masters. 00:37:00.68\00:37:02.78 And God has given us the power of choice. 00:37:02.82\00:37:05.92 He goes on in Verse, let's start with Verse 15, 00:37:05.95\00:37:11.19 Romans 6:15. What then? shall we sin, because we're not under 00:37:11.23\00:37:16.13 law, but under grace? Certainly not. 00:37:16.16\00:37:19.03 Now Verse 16. Here's where my lesson comes in. 00:37:19.07\00:37:21.57 Do you not know that to whom you present yourself, 00:37:21.60\00:37:25.74 to whom you yield yourself slaves to obey, you are that 00:37:25.77\00:37:31.28 ones slaves whom you obey. 00:37:31.31\00:37:34.12 Let me stop right there. 00:37:34.15\00:37:35.55 The Romans understood the slave market. 00:37:35.58\00:37:39.49 The majority of Romans were slaves. 00:37:39.52\00:37:41.29 Over 50% were slaves. 00:37:41.32\00:37:43.02 But what they understood about the slave market is when you 00:37:43.06\00:37:47.83 were ransomed, when you went to another master, 00:37:47.86\00:37:51.07 the former master had no dominion over you. 00:37:51.10\00:37:54.90 The former master had no say over you. 00:37:54.94\00:37:58.67 So he's saying, Do you not know that to whom... 00:37:58.71\00:38:01.78 And, oh, by the way, they could either be slaves because they 00:38:01.81\00:38:06.58 were prisoners of war, or because it was voluntary. 00:38:06.61\00:38:09.85 It was kind of like an indentured household servant 00:38:09.88\00:38:12.62 to pay off a debt or something. 00:38:12.65\00:38:14.32 So Paul says, Hey, you've got a choice of masters here. 00:38:14.36\00:38:20.33 You're supposed to have died. 00:38:20.36\00:38:21.66 And you know what the problem is? 00:38:21.70\00:38:23.87 A lot of people... How can you say this?... when they are 00:38:23.90\00:38:30.81 buried in baptism, the problem is they were buried alive. 00:38:30.84\00:38:34.21 They didn't surrender. 00:38:35.04\00:38:37.65 So they didn't even say, Lord, let me die to self. 00:38:37.68\00:38:41.72 So if self is still, you know, comes back up on the throne 00:38:41.75\00:38:46.45 every now and then, that's our problem. 00:38:46.49\00:38:48.49 So Verse 16. Do you not know that to whom you present 00:38:48.52\00:38:52.23 yourself slaves to obey, you are that one's slave whom you 00:38:52.26\00:38:57.27 obey; whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience 00:38:57.33\00:39:02.20 leading to righteousness. 00:39:02.24\00:39:04.07 But we all know that sin leads to death. 00:39:04.14\00:39:06.47 I mean sin is a cruel taskmaster. 00:39:06.51\00:39:09.14 And he pays the wages of death. 00:39:09.18\00:39:12.58 Now God is not. God doesn't pay us wages. 00:39:12.61\00:39:16.72 God gives us the gift, right, of eternal life. 00:39:16.75\00:39:19.79 But I remember seeing this, and I said, What do you mean 00:39:19.82\00:39:23.26 obedience leading to righteousness? 00:39:23.29\00:39:25.46 We're talking about righteousness by faith. 00:39:25.49\00:39:28.23 How can you say that obedience leads to righteousness? 00:39:28.26\00:39:32.10 Well, let's turn to 1 John 3:7, cause here's the answer to that. 00:39:32.13\00:39:36.07 Because, you know, sometimes people think when we're 00:39:36.10\00:39:38.94 righteous by faith that we don't have to worry about obeying. 00:39:38.97\00:39:42.88 Well, then that means we'll be sinning, which leads to death. 00:39:42.91\00:39:46.05 But Paul says, Or obedience, leading to righteousness. 00:39:46.08\00:39:49.75 And in 1 John 3:7 here's what John says: Little children, 00:39:49.78\00:39:53.86 let no one deceive you: he who practices righteousness is 00:39:53.89\00:40:01.16 righteous, just as He, Christ, is righteous. 00:40:01.20\00:40:06.00 In other words, when you have died to sin, when you've said, 00:40:06.03\00:40:11.14 Lord, I'm ready to bury my old life with You, and come up to 00:40:11.17\00:40:15.68 newness of life; bury my past, come up to newness of life, 00:40:15.71\00:40:20.18 so that I can walk with You. 00:40:20.22\00:40:22.28 Then what we have to know is that we've been made righteous. 00:40:22.32\00:40:28.02 I mean God declares us righteous. 00:40:28.06\00:40:30.29 That's justification by faith. 00:40:30.33\00:40:32.49 But sanctification by faith, Christ, as you so aptly put, 00:40:32.53\00:40:38.27 Pastor Murray, is that we are sanctified. 00:40:38.33\00:40:44.07 Christ is our sanctification. 00:40:44.14\00:40:45.47 1 Corinthians 1:30. He is our wisdom from God, 00:40:45.51\00:40:48.08 our sanctification, and our reconciliation, our redemption. 00:40:48.11\00:40:50.98 He's everything! Right? 00:40:51.01\00:40:52.65 So we're sanctified by His blood. 00:40:52.68\00:40:54.38 We're sanctified by His body. 00:40:54.45\00:40:55.78 We're sanctified. But the Holy Spirit, we are sanctified by the 00:40:55.82\00:41:01.09 Holy Spirit unto obedience. 00:41:01.12\00:41:03.63 And so as the Holy Spirit is working in our heart, 00:41:03.66\00:41:08.16 as Christ is living in our heart by faith, do you think for one 00:41:08.20\00:41:12.23 minute the Spirit's saying, Oh, Mollie, we don't care if 00:41:12.27\00:41:16.44 you commit adultery. 00:41:16.47\00:41:17.81 Go ahead. Jesus and I don't care. 00:41:17.84\00:41:20.18 Just go do it! No, the whole idea is that God is working in 00:41:20.24\00:41:25.28 you, Philippians 2:12, 13, to will and to 00:41:25.31\00:41:29.15 do His good pleasure. 00:41:29.18\00:41:31.05 And Philippians 1:6, that He will complete the good work 00:41:31.09\00:41:35.06 that He has begun in you. 00:41:35.09\00:41:36.83 So he goes on then in Verse 17, Romans 6:17, But God be thanked 00:41:36.89\00:41:47.17 that though you were once slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the 00:41:47.20\00:41:52.57 heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. 00:41:52.61\00:41:56.91 I don't know how this has ever happened, 00:41:56.98\00:41:59.61 but somehow people have this idea. 00:41:59.65\00:42:02.82 Many people I hear say, Oh, don't talk to me about doctrine. 00:42:02.85\00:42:06.52 I don't even want to hear the word doctrine. 00:42:06.55\00:42:08.86 Doctrine simply means the teaching of 00:42:08.89\00:42:11.63 the Bible; the truth. 00:42:11.66\00:42:13.16 The reason I joined the Seventh-day Adventist church 00:42:13.19\00:42:15.80 is because they teach more Bible doctrines, more Bible truth, 00:42:15.83\00:42:20.54 than any other church that I've ever found. 00:42:20.60\00:42:23.41 And it was everything that, as I studied independently, 00:42:23.47\00:42:26.54 everything God was teaching me from the Scriptures, 00:42:26.57\00:42:29.81 it was like... I found out Adventists believed that. 00:42:29.84\00:42:33.05 Wow! It was exciting. 00:42:33.08\00:42:34.65 But we should be obeying from the heart. 00:42:34.68\00:42:41.16 We're in covenant relationship with God. 00:42:42.52\00:42:45.53 We've been saved by grace through faith. 00:42:45.56\00:42:48.46 And He wants us to express our covenant loyalty to Him. 00:42:48.50\00:42:55.14 And when we do that it is an expression of love, and loyalty 00:42:55.17\00:43:00.58 to Him when we walk in obedience; 00:43:00.61\00:43:04.08 when we choose to walk in obedience to the correct 00:43:04.15\00:43:08.42 doctrine, not the traditions of men, but the form of doctrine 00:43:08.45\00:43:12.52 that was delivered in the Scriptures. 00:43:12.59\00:43:14.32 And then he goes on in Verse 18 and says, And having been set 00:43:14.39\00:43:18.59 free from sin you become slaves of righteousness. 00:43:18.63\00:43:25.57 We can either yield to sin or yield to righteousness. 00:43:25.60\00:43:30.07 Let me give you this Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20. 00:43:30.11\00:43:39.81 Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit 00:43:39.85\00:43:43.22 who is in you, and you are not your own? 00:43:43.25\00:43:47.56 For you were bought at a price: therefore... 00:43:47.62\00:43:51.86 And what was the price? 00:43:51.89\00:43:53.66 The price to pay your redemption, to free you from 00:43:53.70\00:43:57.73 the slave market of sin was the blood of Jesus Christ. 00:43:57.77\00:44:01.87 And he says, Therefore glorify God in your body, 00:44:01.90\00:44:06.37 and in your Spirit, which are God's. 00:44:06.41\00:44:08.61 Sin or obedience, there's definitely obedience that is 00:44:08.64\00:44:14.35 empowered by grace is what God expects of us, 00:44:14.38\00:44:20.36 and what God empowers us to do. 00:44:20.39\00:44:23.46 Amen, well put, well put, Praise the Lord! 00:44:23.53\00:44:27.30 Thursday's lesson. We get right into Thursday's lesson. 00:44:27.30\00:44:30.83 I like the title of it. 00:44:30.87\00:44:33.70 It's Free From Sin. 00:44:33.74\00:44:35.07 It's what I think we've all been talking about here: 00:44:35.10\00:44:36.97 Free From Sin, and how this takes place in our life. 00:44:37.01\00:44:40.94 And we found out there's only one way that we can be is 00:44:40.98\00:44:43.41 through the blood of Jesus Christ. 00:44:43.45\00:44:45.08 But does free really mean free? 00:44:45.11\00:44:48.72 Now that's the problem. 00:44:48.78\00:44:50.55 You can say free, you know, and then I think I saw an 00:44:50.59\00:44:54.22 advertisement one time where a little girl said, what was it? 00:44:54.26\00:44:57.09 Lemonade or something on a sign... Was it a buck? 00:44:57.13\00:45:00.56 A dollar, and then when he went to get it she said it was $2.00 00:45:00.63\00:45:03.77 and whatever, some odd cents. 00:45:03.80\00:45:05.90 He said, No, you said a buck on here. 00:45:05.93\00:45:07.57 Yeah, but you've got to put this in and that in, and kind of like 00:45:07.64\00:45:10.31 your phone, you know, all the little taxes, and all the little 00:45:10.34\00:45:12.94 da-da-da-da-da-da-! 00:45:12.97\00:45:14.31 So is free really that kind of a word? 00:45:14.34\00:45:17.88 You know, free actually means, when it comes to Christ 00:45:17.91\00:45:21.05 and the promises He's made, when He says it's free, 00:45:21.08\00:45:23.39 it is free, it is a gift. 00:45:23.49\00:45:25.85 And so it says, keep in mind what we have studied 00:45:25.89\00:45:28.39 so far in Romans 6. 00:45:28.42\00:45:29.76 So it's kind of a wrap up of Romans 6; everyone's passages 00:45:29.79\00:45:33.13 that they have read; how they would bear fruit in our 00:45:33.16\00:45:36.83 hearts and our lives. 00:45:36.87\00:45:38.20 Just read them. Accept them by faith. 00:45:38.23\00:45:39.57 Let the Holy Spirit live them out there in our life. 00:45:39.60\00:45:42.87 Romans 6:19. If you have your Bibles you want to 00:45:42.90\00:45:46.17 turn there quickly. 00:45:46.21\00:45:47.54 Maybe this has been read, I think maybe a time or two. 00:45:47.58\00:45:50.31 But let's read Romans 6:19-22, Romans 6:19-22. 00:45:50.35\00:45:57.25 It says, I speak after the manner of men because of the 00:45:57.29\00:46:00.99 infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members 00:46:01.02\00:46:05.19 servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; 00:46:05.23\00:46:09.63 even so now yield your members servants to 00:46:09.70\00:46:12.57 righteousness unto holiness. 00:46:12.60\00:46:14.44 For when you were the servants of sin, you were free 00:46:14.47\00:46:18.31 from righteousness. 00:46:18.34\00:46:19.67 It's interesting. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof 00:46:19.71\00:46:24.15 ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 00:46:24.18\00:46:27.75 He's starting to bring it down now so we understand it. 00:46:27.78\00:46:31.32 But now being made free from sin, and become servants of God, 00:46:31.35\00:46:35.66 ye have your fruit... Notice this. 00:46:35.69\00:46:37.76 ...unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 00:46:37.79\00:46:40.63 And, of course, Verse 23: For the wages of sin... 00:46:40.70\00:46:43.26 And we've, everyone says it certainly is death. 00:46:43.33\00:46:45.90 But I always, I like the other. 00:46:45.93\00:46:47.77 Without that I'm having problems. 00:46:47.80\00:46:49.57 I've heard that one quite a bit, you know, 00:46:49.60\00:46:52.07 The wages of sin is death. 00:46:52.11\00:46:54.51 There's death. But I like the praise God on there. 00:46:54.54\00:46:57.61 But the gift of God is eternal life through 00:46:57.65\00:46:59.58 Jesus Christ our Lord. 00:46:59.61\00:47:01.38 So what is Paul really saying here to condense it kind of 00:47:01.42\00:47:04.65 down for our thinking? 00:47:04.72\00:47:06.12 Paul's speaking to the human nature. 00:47:06.15\00:47:08.42 He's speaking to the people there, 00:47:08.46\00:47:10.66 I want to say in the church. 00:47:10.69\00:47:12.03 He's wanting to speak to the body of Christ. 00:47:12.06\00:47:14.20 And he speaks to the physical, he speaks to the mental, 00:47:14.23\00:47:18.07 he speaks to the Spiritual. 00:47:18.10\00:47:19.97 So he's addressing all aspects here. 00:47:20.04\00:47:22.87 But notice what he's addressing. 00:47:22.90\00:47:24.24 Not necessarily the victories, he's addressing 00:47:24.31\00:47:27.18 weaknesses to start with. 00:47:27.21\00:47:28.84 These are some weaknesses. 00:47:28.91\00:47:30.48 And so he's talking to the weaknesses. 00:47:30.55\00:47:32.11 He said, You have become... Now I don't know if you'd like 00:47:32.15\00:47:34.72 to have these kind of sermons or not. 00:47:34.75\00:47:36.08 The preacher get up and say, You guys are just, you know, 00:47:36.12\00:47:37.69 you're servants of sin. 00:47:37.72\00:47:39.59 You're just all doing the wrong things here. 00:47:39.62\00:47:42.36 You're in bondage and lawlessness, and whatever 00:47:42.39\00:47:45.06 it might be, impurity. 00:47:45.09\00:47:46.70 But then what does he do? 00:47:46.73\00:47:48.13 I like the way Paul addressed this. 00:47:48.16\00:47:50.27 He urges the Christians there, the people, he urges them to 00:47:50.33\00:47:55.64 put as much effort into doing the right thing 00:47:55.67\00:47:58.61 as they have put an effort into doing the wrong thing. 00:47:58.64\00:48:02.21 You know, some time you do the wrong things you have to put 00:48:02.24\00:48:04.48 forth a little bit of effort. 00:48:04.51\00:48:06.11 And so he's encouraging them to switch it around and put effort 00:48:06.15\00:48:09.18 into doing the right things. 00:48:09.22\00:48:10.62 He wants them to be holy as He is holy; as the Lord is holy, 00:48:10.72\00:48:16.06 and walk in sanctification. 00:48:16.09\00:48:18.23 And we've talked about it several times... 00:48:18.26\00:48:20.93 And those of you at home. 00:48:20.96\00:48:22.26 We've been over the issue a lot, but it's good to realize that 00:48:22.30\00:48:24.57 sanctification is a continuous process we've talked about. 00:48:24.60\00:48:28.97 It's an ongoing process. 00:48:29.00\00:48:31.04 And, you know, the Bible talks about perfection. 00:48:31.07\00:48:35.04 It talks about first the blade, then the ear, 00:48:35.08\00:48:37.88 and then the full corn. 00:48:37.91\00:48:39.85 And somebody said, Well, no, cause, you've got to have 00:48:39.88\00:48:42.05 the full corn before you're perfect. 00:48:42.12\00:48:43.59 I asked, The question is when that first little blade comes up 00:48:43.62\00:48:46.89 is it perfect in that stage? 00:48:46.96\00:48:48.56 Absolutely! Absolutely! It is. 00:48:48.59\00:48:50.23 The second stage it comes up, if there's three stages. 00:48:50.26\00:48:53.09 Is it perfect in that stage? 00:48:53.16\00:48:54.60 Yes it is. It's not an ear of corn yet. 00:48:54.63\00:48:56.43 It lacks an awful lot. 00:48:56.46\00:48:58.70 But for what you understand, and what you're putting into 00:48:58.73\00:49:01.74 your life, and you've surrendered all to Christ, 00:49:01.77\00:49:03.77 and you're covered by His blood; and then 00:49:03.84\00:49:05.87 certainly the full corn. 00:49:05.91\00:49:07.61 And so, you know, I've always liked that. 00:49:07.64\00:49:09.34 Physical, mental, spiritual, it's talking about here. 00:49:09.38\00:49:12.31 And to me the reason is God wants to restore me the way 00:49:12.35\00:49:18.02 that He created man in the beginning. Yes. 00:49:18.05\00:49:20.49 I want that, and that has to make sense to us. 00:49:20.52\00:49:22.82 This is what is perfection of character. 00:49:22.89\00:49:25.56 This is what's being like our Heavenly Father.. 00:49:25.59\00:49:27.76 This is why Matthew 5:48, Be ye perfect as your Father which 00:49:27.83\00:49:31.23 art in Heaven is perfect. 00:49:31.27\00:49:32.60 You know, I, to be honest with you, it just kind 00:49:32.63\00:49:34.77 of gets all over me. 00:49:34.80\00:49:36.14 Somebody gets up and says, I know how it reads, 00:49:36.17\00:49:38.04 but it doesn't mean that. 00:49:38.07\00:49:39.41 You know, I can't wait to get up and say it does read that way, 00:49:39.44\00:49:42.01 and that's exactly what it means, and it has the Bible 00:49:42.08\00:49:43.95 that can back it up. 00:49:43.98\00:49:45.31 And I can use the Spirit of Prophecy on this 00:49:45.35\00:49:46.82 passage right here to say that's exactly what it means. 00:49:46.85\00:49:49.18 It says we can be as perfect in our sphere as God is in His. 00:49:49.22\00:49:54.39 That's pretty... that's heavy duty. 00:49:54.42\00:49:57.23 You know, and it's not that I'm trying to claim holiness. 00:49:57.26\00:49:59.36 But that's... We either look at those and we throw those out, 00:49:59.39\00:50:02.56 and if we threw it out we throw out one of the identifying marks 00:50:02.60\00:50:05.07 of God's last day church. 00:50:05.10\00:50:06.43 None of us want to do that. 00:50:06.47\00:50:07.80 So maybe we have to look a little closer than maybe we 00:50:07.84\00:50:10.07 have looked before as what does God require of me. 00:50:10.11\00:50:13.44 Yes. You know, unless we have His character, unless we are 00:50:13.48\00:50:17.75 like Him, when His character is fully reproduced 00:50:17.78\00:50:21.25 in us He will come. 00:50:21.28\00:50:23.02 That's what's holding it. 00:50:23.05\00:50:24.42 And I've often said it's not the Sunday Laws, 00:50:24.45\00:50:26.49 even though they're coming. 00:50:26.52\00:50:27.86 You know, it's not this, it's not that, 00:50:27.89\00:50:29.29 and blaming everybody else. 00:50:29.32\00:50:30.69 It's because our characters are not what they need to be 00:50:30.73\00:50:33.76 to repopulate heaven. 00:50:33.80\00:50:35.10 You know, in my studies, it's just always in my mind 00:50:35.13\00:50:37.30 we have to be righteous and holy. 00:50:37.40\00:50:39.90 In other words no longer I but Christ. 00:50:39.97\00:50:42.10 Why did Paul say that? 00:50:42.14\00:50:43.47 No longer I, you know, no longer Christ. 00:50:43.54\00:50:45.17 No longer my mind but His mind. 00:50:45.24\00:50:46.81 I tell the Lord every day, I am not capable to make one 00:50:46.84\00:50:50.81 decision on my own. 00:50:50.88\00:50:52.21 I am not capable, and I don't want to. 00:50:52.25\00:50:54.68 I don't know the beginning and the end, and I want You to make 00:50:54.72\00:50:56.72 those decisions for me. 00:50:56.75\00:50:58.09 I'll read this right here. 00:50:58.12\00:50:59.45 It's from The Great Controversy, 470. 00:50:59.49\00:51:01.76 It talks about sanctification and it continues the process, 00:51:01.79\00:51:05.16 developing day by day the physical, mental, 00:51:05.19\00:51:07.73 and spiritual powers... Notice. 00:51:07.76\00:51:09.36 ...until... I just talked about it. 00:51:09.40\00:51:10.83 ...until the image of God in that which we were originally 00:51:10.87\00:51:15.40 created is restored in us. 00:51:15.44\00:51:17.74 It's an ongoing. But there will be a people at the end of time. 00:51:17.77\00:51:22.41 You know, people love to talk about the 144,000. Praise God! 00:51:22.44\00:51:25.55 Because they will be without fault. 00:51:25.58\00:51:27.02 They will be without sin. 00:51:27.08\00:51:28.42 And they will be without spot or wrinkle, or any such thing. 00:51:28.45\00:51:30.79 It's the idea of, and we're told we need to pray 00:51:30.85\00:51:33.76 to be in that number. 00:51:33.82\00:51:35.16 We need to pray to be in that number. 00:51:35.19\00:51:36.62 And some people, well, they don't want to talk about it, 00:51:36.69\00:51:39.03 and they don't want to do it. 00:51:39.06\00:51:40.40 But free, I like that. 00:51:40.46\00:51:41.76 Signs of the Time, 3, Page 30, says the Only Begotten 00:51:41.80\00:51:47.17 Son of God came to our world as a man to reveal to the world 00:51:47.20\00:51:51.94 the fact that men, through divine power, 00:51:51.97\00:51:55.48 could keep the law of God. 00:51:55.51\00:51:57.28 So what does that mean? 00:51:57.31\00:51:58.88 By divine strength. 00:51:58.91\00:52:00.52 Nothing we have. We can't do it. 00:52:00.55\00:52:02.15 It's all God. It's all Him. 00:52:02.18\00:52:05.25 But what? Jesus proved it could be kept. 00:52:05.32\00:52:08.22 He had no edge on us, and that is His example for us. 00:52:08.26\00:52:11.63 So if we think we're fudging a little bit here, and a little 00:52:11.66\00:52:14.20 bit there, we're not going to match up here and there. 00:52:14.20\00:52:16.20 We've got some problems. 00:52:16.23\00:52:17.57 Because Divinity living in me, Christ in me... 00:52:17.60\00:52:20.94 Somebody was getting ready to... Was it John 15, 00:52:20.97\00:52:24.81 the Divine and the Branch? Yes. 00:52:24.87\00:52:27.24 You know, when you look at that, really you think about it, 00:52:27.28\00:52:29.34 Divine and the Branch. 00:52:29.38\00:52:30.71 If we are really connected to that vine, the only way that we 00:52:30.75\00:52:34.28 can produce and be is like that. 00:52:34.32\00:52:35.65 We're the branch, right? coming out. 00:52:35.68\00:52:37.02 We have to be exactly like that vine is, that main stalk. 00:52:37.05\00:52:40.76 So these are things that we need to really look at, 00:52:40.82\00:52:44.19 and to think about. 00:52:44.23\00:52:45.56 Another one here, Review and Herald, 308 says: Through Him 00:52:45.59\00:52:49.06 comes power by which the character may be reshaped, 00:52:49.10\00:52:52.17 the soul renewed to bear the moral image of God. 00:52:52.20\00:52:57.54 What is the plan? What is the plan? 00:52:57.57\00:53:01.11 Think about it. You know you say our message is what? 00:53:01.14\00:53:04.05 the three angels' message, Give glory to Him. 00:53:04.08\00:53:06.58 I've had people say, Well, how do we give glory to Him? Huh? 00:53:06.61\00:53:09.42 By rightly representing Him. 00:53:09.45\00:53:11.09 By showing His character to the world is how 00:53:11.12\00:53:14.19 we give glory to Him. 00:53:14.26\00:53:16.22 And the pastor was talking about before all of the hereditary, 00:53:16.29\00:53:21.13 and all the other things, and all of the problems we have, 00:53:21.16\00:53:23.43 victory is assured to each and every one of us. 00:53:23.47\00:53:26.60 Christ redeemed man, The Signs of the Times, 4, 528. 00:53:26.63\00:53:30.41 Christ redeemed man from the condemnation of the law, 00:53:30.47\00:53:34.18 we've been talking about here. 00:53:34.24\00:53:35.58 Notice why: And imparted divine power. 00:53:35.61\00:53:38.88 And through man's cooperation the sinner could be restored 00:53:38.91\00:53:43.02 to his lost estate. 00:53:43.05\00:53:44.62 Amen! So these go on and on, and hundreds of them. 00:53:44.65\00:53:47.92 You know Bible passages; I'm like you, 00:53:47.96\00:53:49.62 I write them in my Bible. 00:53:49.66\00:53:50.99 You know, when it says free from sin, dead to sin, 00:53:51.03\00:53:53.09 and sin shall not rise up. 00:53:53.13\00:53:54.46 You know, and Jude talks about in there. 00:53:54.93\00:53:57.20 There's just hundreds of passages that indicate, 00:53:57.23\00:53:59.77 Praise God to us, that through Him, through giving our lives 00:53:59.83\00:54:04.44 to Him, dedicating to Him, justification by faith, 00:54:04.47\00:54:07.41 and walking sanctification, being obedient to God. 00:54:07.48\00:54:10.35 He's going to come back after a people 00:54:10.38\00:54:12.95 who's going to be like Him. 00:54:12.98\00:54:14.35 And I say, By God's grace let it happen. 00:54:14.42\00:54:16.82 And I know I need a lot of work. 00:54:16.89\00:54:18.22 And I'm praying for that work, you know. 00:54:18.25\00:54:20.16 And you know what? 00:54:20.19\00:54:21.52 You may be praying for it, too, some of you still at home. 00:54:21.56\00:54:23.09 Be praying because God wants to work that miracle 00:54:23.12\00:54:24.83 in you as well as me. 00:54:24.86\00:54:26.56 Amen, amen, and amen. 00:54:26.59\00:54:28.23 We've taken a look at a very important part of the Christian 00:54:28.26\00:54:32.10 walk, and that is overcoming sin. Yes. 00:54:32.17\00:54:35.44 If in this world we only have what we are involved, 00:54:35.47\00:54:38.01 we are the most miserable. 00:54:38.04\00:54:39.37 There's got to be something better than what we see now. 00:54:39.41\00:54:42.41 We are told in the Spirit of Prophecy that our lives ought 00:54:42.44\00:54:45.85 not be an endless round of sinning and repenting, 00:54:45.88\00:54:48.55 sinning and repenting. 00:54:48.62\00:54:49.95 That bespeaks that there can be victory in this life. 00:54:49.98\00:54:55.06 There can be overcoming power. 00:54:55.09\00:54:57.59 You can live above sin. 00:54:57.63\00:54:59.96 You know, there is something called the snake lion. 00:55:00.06\00:55:02.36 Have you heard that? 00:55:02.40\00:55:03.77 When you're climbing in altitudes, there's a certain 00:55:03.80\00:55:05.70 line above which snakes cannot live. 00:55:05.73\00:55:08.27 When you get up so high on a mountain you don't have to worry 00:55:08.30\00:55:11.04 about snakes anymore, because they only go up so high. 00:55:11.07\00:55:13.38 We can live above the snake line. 00:55:13.41\00:55:15.44 We can live above the line where snakes live. 00:55:15.48\00:55:18.41 We can live victoriously in Jesus. 00:55:18.45\00:55:21.35 And that is the wonderful thing about our life. 00:55:21.38\00:55:23.28 Now, we'll give you each just thirty seconds to run through 00:55:23.32\00:55:25.55 this quickly; sort of put a little bow on your own, 00:55:25.59\00:55:27.86 or something you heard today that moves you. 00:55:27.89\00:55:29.72 Let's start with Jill. 00:55:29.76\00:55:31.09 This quote is from Steps to Christ, Page 47. 00:55:31.13\00:55:33.83 What you need to understand is the true force of the will. 00:55:33.90\00:55:37.23 This is the governing power in the nature of man, the power of 00:55:37.27\00:55:40.54 decision or of choice. 00:55:40.60\00:55:42.50 Everything depends on the right action of the will. 00:55:42.54\00:55:45.97 You can't change your heart. 00:55:46.01\00:55:47.34 You can't of yourself give to God its affections. 00:55:47.38\00:55:50.91 But you can choose to serve Him. 00:55:50.95\00:55:53.78 You give Him your will. 00:55:53.82\00:55:55.18 He will then work in you to will and to do of His good pleasure. 00:55:55.22\00:55:58.99 Amen!
