Peter chapter 2 verse 2,

the Bible says,

"Like newborn babies
crave pure spiritual milk,

so that by it, you may
grow up in your salvation. "

Here the apostle
Peter is using the metaphor
00:01:02.92\00:01:07.33
of physical birth and growth
to describe an analogous way
00:01:07.36\00:01:15.10
the way that we also are
born spiritually and grow.

Notice that in this text,
there are two distinct periods

that are there by implication,

there is Christian birth

and then there
is Christian growth.

Now, in the physical world,

it's important
to be born obviously

because if you're
never born, you don't exist

but after you're born,

it's important
to grow after birth.

Now, we have in my home...
we just had... two years ago

a baby boy...
he's two right now...

hard to believe

and all of the focus in the
pregnancy and rightfully so,

was on his birth.

We went through classes,

we went and prepared our bag

there was so much of
the emphasis on birth

and then when the
birth of my son came,

there was this realization
that came over my sleep-deprived

consciousness

that this baby
needed continual daily care.

In other words,
birth was one thing

but care and growth
after birth was another thing

and we'd go to the
Pediatrician on a regular basis

and they would
weigh and measure the baby

because if the
baby is not growing,

there is something wrong.

In an analogous way,
the Christian experience

is about birth
and growth as well

and I believe there are many
Christians that have been born

but are no longer growing.

In other words,
metaphorically speaking,

they're still in diapers.

They have not
grown as a Christian

and so much of Christianity
today is emphasized on the birth

and praise God for that

but the Bible points out
that it's important to grow

after birth as well

as we're seen here
in 1st Peter 2 verse 2

"That you may grow
up in your salvation. "

Now, here is a
model of the sanctuary

that we've been referencing,

this is a bird's eye
view of Moses' sanctuary

and you come into the Courtyard

and that is where we are
born again as a Christian.

You accept Jesus as your Savior,

He comes into your heart...

you come to the Laver
where you are baptized

and then, after that,

God says, "I want you to
walk with me into the Holy Place

where you can grow
after you have been born.

You see, in the Courtyard,
you are born as a Christian...

you grow as a Christian.

Now, I want to mention
something very quickly here,

it's not about how far you get,

it's about being in the process.

Now, when you look at
the thief on the cross,

the thief on the
cross didn't get very far,

he wasn't even baptized...

he made it to the
first article of furniture...

he accepted Jesus as His Savior

and he died a few hours later.

Now, I believe on the cross,

he was growing but
he didn't get very far.

You see, it's not
about the destination,

it's about being in the process,

however, as long as you
are alive as a Christian,

you should be growing...
you should be in the process...

so, in the
Courtyard, you accept Jesus,

then you come to the Holy Place

Now, we use these terms,

and Justification"

synonymous with Christian birth

Now, as we've noted, this is
an important point to look at

when we look at the sanctuary,

intention in the sanctuary

is to bring us all the way back

and He does this in
three distinct stages

studying Stage Two today,

we are justified
in the Courtyard,

and then we are
sanctified in the Holy Place,

this is where we
experience Christian growth,

either/or scenarios,

but in the Hebrew mind,

they took a very
holistic approach...

was not either/or

and in this case,
it's not justification

Now, some people want to give
a discount on the sanctuary,

they want to dwell in one
compartment of the sanctuary,

but, here we can see that
God's plan is restorative...

he wants to bring us back.

Now, it's important to note

that justification
precedes sanctification

in the same way that
you're born and then you grow

so, this is
important for us to recognize

come into the Courtyard

and we experience justification,

sanctification as well.

Now, in 1st
Corinthians chapter 6 verse 11,

the Bible says,
"Some of you were washed,

name of the Lord Jesus Christ. "

So, here we have Paul using
justification and sanctification

in the same phrase.

They are both essential
for our Christian experience.

Justification
is pardon from sin,

and Sanctification
is power over sin.

We need both in our
Christian experience.

What if I told a drug
addict that was hooked on Heroin

have good news and bad news,

the good news is
that you are pardoned,

all the record of your drug
abuse is immediately erased...

Jesus has washed them away

and when Jesus looks at
you, He no longer sees you...

He sees the righteous
record of Jesus Christ.

But, I have bad news as well.

The bad news is, even
though your record is cleansed,

that there is no power to
cure you from your addiction.

In other words, it
is an incomplete gospel,

going to be a heroin addict

for the rest of his life.

Now, that is not
a complete gospel

and I praise the Lord that
in God's plan of salvation,

He not only cleanses us
from the past record of sins,

but He also... in the present...

in our struggle with our
addictions and our habits,

and our sinful tendencies,
He also gives us power

to overcome those
sins in your life,

now, if you areas in your life
that you want forgiveness for,

Now, the good news of the gospel

Now, when I came to Jesus

assumed that the next day

I would not have to deal
with those sinful tendencies

and those neuro pathways that
I had been developing for years

after baptism

and I woke up the
next day and I realized

that those inclinations
and those tendencies

were still there...

in other words,
baptism is not a Lobotomy.

A Lobotomy is where a part
of your brain was removed...

God does not come down
and erase those tendencies,

power to develop new habits
