But what happens? 00:05:52.78\00:05:55.52 But in its end, it's the way of what? 00:05:55.55\00:05:58.69 It's the way of death. 00:05:58.72\00:06:00.49 This week's lesson that we have on the legacy of Cain is a 00:06:00.52\00:06:04.99 legacy of disobedience that Cain left for all the world to see. 00:06:05.03\00:06:09.86 And really consequently as a result of this legacy, the world 00:06:09.90\00:06:14.97 is reeling as a result of all this. 00:06:15.00\00:06:18.47 The expulsion from Eden, the results of that single sin, 00:06:18.51\00:06:21.94 continue to fester, continue to grow, and it passed on from 00:06:21.98\00:06:25.75 succeeding generations all the way through time 00:06:25.78\00:06:29.15 to the point that we are at right now. 00:06:29.18\00:06:32.22 We find that the beginning of this chapter begins 00:06:32.25\00:06:34.26 with the birth of Cain, and it ends with the 00:06:34.29\00:06:37.03 birth of Seth as the lesson points out. 00:06:37.06\00:06:40.23 While the birth of Cain leads to failure and has a limited 00:06:40.26\00:06:44.73 horizon made of human achievement 00:06:44.77\00:06:47.70 and violence, it leads to the flood ultimately. 00:06:47.74\00:06:51.74 The birth of Seth, however, is the opposite of that. 00:06:51.77\00:06:55.44 It brings repair to the preceding failure and restores 00:06:55.48\00:06:59.65 God's plan of salvation, leading to the survival of 00:06:59.68\00:07:03.32 mankind and history to their salvation. 00:07:03.35\00:07:08.86 When we get to Sunday's lesson, we find that 00:07:08.89\00:07:12.46 this particular lesson is about Cain and Abel. 00:07:12.49\00:07:14.93 These are the first real children that 00:07:14.93\00:07:16.97 we find in the Bible, Cain and Abel. 00:07:17.00\00:07:20.00 Cain was the first one born. 00:07:20.04\00:07:21.77 In "Desire of Ages," page 31, it says, 00:07:21.80\00:07:24.71 "The Savior's coming was foretold at Eden. 00:07:24.74\00:07:28.21 When Adam and Eve first heard the promise, 00:07:28.24\00:07:30.25 they looked for its speedy fulfillment. 00:07:30.28\00:07:33.11 They joyfully welcomed their firstborn son, 00:07:33.15\00:07:35.95 hoping that it might be the deliverer." 00:07:35.98\00:07:39.42 You can imagine the guilt that was on Eve. 00:07:39.45\00:07:43.16 When she took that fruit, she ventured away from Adam, and 00:07:43.19\00:07:48.10 then she came back with that fruit and she gave it to Adam. 00:07:48.13\00:07:51.03 Adam really had no choice in the matter, did he? 00:07:51.07\00:07:55.07 Or could he? He did have a choice. 00:07:55.10\00:07:58.01 You know, but I'm sure he's thinking, 00:07:58.04\00:07:59.91 "But, but what about Eve?" 00:07:59.94\00:08:02.48 You know, I know this is not part of the lesson, 00:08:02.51\00:08:04.41 but I've always wondered, what about Eve? 00:08:04.45\00:08:05.75 And as I've studied some more about this, God could have 00:08:05.78\00:08:09.25 produced another Eve for him, but he ate it. 00:08:09.28\00:08:14.79 And as a result of this, the guilt 00:08:14.82\00:08:17.53 continued to fester within them. 00:08:17.56\00:08:20.06 And when the promise was given that there would 00:08:20.10\00:08:21.70 be a promised Son, the Son of God would come, 00:08:21.73\00:08:25.70 Eve kept thinking it could be hers. 00:08:25.73\00:08:28.57 It's hers, it's her firstborn. 00:08:28.60\00:08:31.14 Well, God works in His own timing. 00:08:31.17\00:08:33.78 He doesn't work in our own timing. 00:08:33.81\00:08:35.88 Isaiah 55:89 says, "My thoughts are not your thoughts. 00:08:35.91\00:08:40.32 My ways are not your way. 00:08:40.35\00:08:41.72 So as the heavens are higher than the earth, 00:08:41.75\00:08:43.18 so are My thoughts higher than your 00:08:43.22\00:08:45.55 thoughts and My ways than your ways." 00:08:45.59\00:08:48.26 The lesson points out that she believed wholeheartedly 00:08:48.29\00:08:51.66 that God Himself would come down and be the 00:08:51.69\00:08:54.40 very one that she would give birth to. 00:08:54.46\00:08:58.10 And that's why her response in chapter 4, verse 1 she says, 00:08:58.13\00:09:01.70 "I have given birth to a male child, the Lord." 00:09:01.74\00:09:07.34 Was she right? Not quite. 00:09:07.38\00:09:10.01 She was not so right on that. 00:09:10.05\00:09:13.11 Dr. Jacques Doukhan, who wrote this particular lesson for us on 00:09:13.15\00:09:17.59 Genesis, he comments here and he says, "While Eve's excited 00:09:17.62\00:09:21.42 comments on Cain's birth, she says nothing about Abel's birth, 00:09:21.46\00:09:26.23 at least nothing that's recorded in the text." 00:09:26.26\00:09:29.36 In contrast to Cain's birth, you see the 00:09:29.40\00:09:31.77 narrator simply reports that she bore again. 00:09:31.80\00:09:36.60 There was no excitement anymore. 00:09:36.64\00:09:37.94 There was no thinking, "Well, this is the promised Son." 00:09:37.97\00:09:42.28 No, it was just a son. 00:09:42.31\00:09:46.18 In the timeline, it shows it's about three years' difference 00:09:46.21\00:09:49.05 between Cain and then three years later, it was Abel. 00:09:49.08\00:09:52.95 The lesson points out that though we didn't want to read 00:09:52.99\00:09:56.56 any more of these short texts than there is, perhaps the idea 00:09:56.59\00:10:00.10 is that Adam and Eve's hope rested, they believed 00:10:00.13\00:10:04.17 only in Cain because they believed he and not his 00:10:04.20\00:10:08.90 brother was the promised Messiah. 00:10:08.94\00:10:13.14 Now, that's an interesting thought because when you think 00:10:13.17\00:10:15.08 of these two that went on, I mean, they grew up together, 00:10:15.11\00:10:20.98 they played together, they did all the same things together. 00:10:21.02\00:10:24.32 But somewhere along the line, there was a division. 00:10:24.35\00:10:26.86 There was a separation, not only in thoughts, ideals, but as 00:10:26.89\00:10:31.93 we'll see in a moment, also in practice. 00:10:31.96\00:10:35.33 In Monday's lesson, the title being, 00:10:35.36\00:10:38.17 "The Two Offerings," this is a very interesting one to look at. 00:10:38.20\00:10:42.40 We find here that Abel had the spirit of loyalty to God. 00:10:42.44\00:10:47.51 He saw justice, he saw mercy, he saw the Creator's 00:10:47.54\00:10:50.38 dealings with the fallen race, and gratefully, 00:10:50.41\00:10:54.08 he accepted the hope of redemption. 00:10:54.12\00:10:57.19 On the other hand though, you had Cain. 00:10:57.22\00:11:00.26 Cain cherished feelings of rebellion and murmured against 00:11:00.29\00:11:03.89 God because of the curse pronounced upon the earth and 00:11:03.93\00:11:06.86 upon the human race for Adam's sin. 00:11:06.90\00:11:11.43 I look out at many of you, and I know 00:11:11.47\00:11:12.77 that many of you here have children. 00:11:12.80\00:11:15.80 And if you've ever had children that were born close together, 00:11:15.84\00:11:18.94 you're kind of sometimes comparing the two. 00:11:18.97\00:11:21.04 "Well, this one does this, and this one does that." 00:11:21.08\00:11:23.51 Well, we have ironically today, although we are three weeks 00:11:23.55\00:11:27.28 ahead of the lesson, today's March 26. 00:11:27.32\00:11:30.02 Today happens to be our twin girls' 00:11:30.05\00:11:32.22 birthday, and they're 23 today. 00:11:32.25\00:11:34.96 So, happy birthday, wherever you are, 00:11:34.99\00:11:36.56 although you'll be hearing this three weeks later. 00:11:36.59\00:11:40.20 I can tell you this, even though they look almost identical, they 00:11:40.23\00:11:44.67 were very much different, very different in the way they were. 00:11:44.70\00:11:49.90 One of them, we called public 00:11:49.94\00:11:51.24 relations department of the family. 00:11:51.27\00:11:53.27 She would be out there talking to everybody that there was. 00:11:53.31\00:11:56.38 The other one was the research 00:11:56.41\00:11:57.81 and development department of the family. 00:11:57.85\00:12:00.35 She would find out where all the things were. 00:12:00.38\00:12:02.92 She picked up a paperclip one day and stuck it in this hole 00:12:02.95\00:12:05.65 that was in the wall and yelled out very loudly that it bit her. 00:12:05.69\00:12:12.79 Ironically, they kind of change as they grow up, don't they? 00:12:12.83\00:12:18.17 And so it was also with Cain and Abel. 00:12:18.20\00:12:22.90 You see, they came to the altar. 00:12:22.94\00:12:25.11 They both gathered rocks, and they both stacked 00:12:25.14\00:12:28.18 up the rocks to build an altar. 00:12:28.21\00:12:30.71 And each of them brought the stones that they had gathered. 00:12:30.75\00:12:34.52 From afar, you looked at the altar itself, 00:12:34.55\00:12:37.05 and there was no difference, they looked exactly the same. 00:12:37.09\00:12:39.59 You probably couldn't tell the difference 00:12:39.62\00:12:41.12 between Cain's altar and Abel's alter. 00:12:41.16\00:12:45.06 But then they went back and then they got their offering, and 00:12:45.09\00:12:49.03 they placed their offerings on their altars. 00:12:49.06\00:12:52.20 And right there, you will see a marked difference between the 00:12:52.23\00:12:56.60 two of them because you will find here that Abel presented a 00:12:56.64\00:13:00.61 sacrifice from the flock in accordance with God's direction. 00:13:00.64\00:13:05.75 And the Lord had respect unto Abel and his offering. 00:13:05.78\00:13:11.29 How do we know that? 00:13:11.32\00:13:12.82 Because the Bible tells us that fire flashed 00:13:12.85\00:13:15.49 from heaven and consumed the sacrifice. 00:13:15.52\00:13:18.53 If you remember the story of Elijah and the scene 00:13:18.56\00:13:21.13 that took place at Mount Carmel, you had all 00:13:21.16\00:13:24.30 these 850 false prophets that were there. 00:13:24.33\00:13:28.00 They danced around for the whole day. 00:13:28.04\00:13:29.94 They had their bull there. 00:13:29.97\00:13:31.41 They had it all set up on the altar. 00:13:31.44\00:13:33.58 They were waiting for it to catch on fire, 00:13:33.61\00:13:37.31 but it would never catch on fire. 00:13:37.35\00:13:39.95 But then when Elijah took his sacrifice and he placed it 00:13:39.98\00:13:42.75 there, all of a sudden, it caught on fire. 00:13:42.78\00:13:46.99 Not only did it just catch on fire like that, but that was 00:13:47.02\00:13:49.72 after all these buckets of water on everything. 00:13:49.76\00:13:55.36 The fire was so strong that it even consumed and licked up the 00:13:55.40\00:13:58.13 water and consumed all the rocks too. 00:13:58.17\00:14:00.64 And here we have the very same thing with Abel's offering. 00:14:00.67\00:14:04.94 Fire flashed from heaven, consumed the sacrifice. 00:14:04.97\00:14:09.31 Then it says that Cain, Cain placed his fruits 00:14:09.34\00:14:14.45 upon the altar, and he waited, expecting that at 00:14:14.48\00:14:17.79 any moment, it would, boof, burst into flames. 00:14:17.82\00:14:22.22 But is that what happened? Not by any means. 00:14:22.26\00:14:25.96 We're told here that the disregard for the Lord's direct 00:14:25.99\00:14:29.56 and explicit command presented only the offering of fruit. 00:14:29.60\00:14:34.10 There was no token from heaven that 00:14:34.14\00:14:36.60 showed it was accepted, nothing at all. 00:14:36.64\00:14:40.68 Now, why would He do that? 00:14:40.71\00:14:43.41 Why would Cain just have his own thoughts, his own ideals when 00:14:43.45\00:14:48.52 it came to what God's explicit directions were? 00:14:48.55\00:14:53.66 In 1937, some of you may remember the name 00:14:53.69\00:14:57.43 of this famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. 00:14:57.46\00:15:01.43 He built a house for an industrialist 00:15:01.46\00:15:03.50 named Hibbard Johnson. 00:15:03.53\00:15:05.43 It was a rainy day, and Johnson was 00:15:05.47\00:15:07.17 entertaining some very distinguished guests. 00:15:07.20\00:15:09.94 And the dinner was all out, but then all of a sudden, 00:15:09.97\00:15:13.71 the roof began to start leaking. 00:15:13.74\00:15:16.51 The water seeped through, and it actually 00:15:16.54\00:15:19.95 started dripping right above Hibbard's head. 00:15:19.98\00:15:27.06 Hibbard was kind of wiping his head back and forth, 00:15:27.09\00:15:30.36 kept looking up at these drips coming down. 00:15:30.39\00:15:32.96 He was, nonetheless, irate. 00:15:32.99\00:15:37.00 He picked up the phone, and he called 00:15:37.03\00:15:38.53 Wright, who was in Phoenix, Arizona. 00:15:38.57\00:15:41.27 He said, "Frank, I got a problem here. 00:15:41.30\00:15:44.74 The house you built is beautiful by all means. 00:15:44.77\00:15:47.54 We are enjoying it very much. 00:15:47.58\00:15:49.74 But as I've told you before, the roof leaks. 00:15:49.78\00:15:52.68 And right now I'm with some friends and some very 00:15:52.71\00:15:54.78 distinguished guests, and it's leaking right on my head." 00:15:54.82\00:16:00.92 Frank Lloyd Wright replied, he heard all the guests 00:16:00.96\00:16:04.86 behind him and he said to him, "Well, Hibb, 00:16:04.89\00:16:08.23 why don't you just move your chair?" 00:16:08.26\00:16:12.77 You see, some of us are just so stubborn. 00:16:12.80\00:16:16.47 We're so set in our ways. 00:16:16.50\00:16:18.21 We have this mindset that this is what it is, 00:16:18.24\00:16:20.78 and this is what it's got to be. 00:16:20.81\00:16:22.28 But here's the problem that we face today. 00:16:22.31\00:16:26.41 In the religious world, if you have your ideals, you got to 00:16:26.45\00:16:31.59 make sure that those ideals match up with God's ideals. 00:16:31.62\00:16:35.32 Because if they don't match up with 00:16:35.36\00:16:36.76 God's ideals, then you know what? 00:16:36.79\00:16:38.96 You have a problem. 00:16:38.99\00:16:41.23 God doesn't have a problem because God gave the command. 00:16:41.26\00:16:44.83 And it's up to you if you're going to follow God's command, 00:16:44.87\00:16:47.30 or you're not going to follow God's command. 00:16:47.34\00:16:49.47 And this is the problem that we have in the world today. 00:16:49.50\00:16:55.11 According to "Patriarchs and Prophets," page 71, we find that 00:16:55.14\00:16:59.68 Abel, he pleaded with his brother to approach 00:16:59.71\00:17:03.59 God in the divinely prescribed way. 00:17:03.62\00:17:07.39 But the entreaties only made Cain 00:17:07.42\00:17:10.59 more determined to follow his own will. 00:17:10.63\00:17:14.50 As the eldest, he felt like, "Who 00:17:14.56\00:17:17.27 is my brother to admonish me? 00:17:17.30\00:17:19.30 He's younger than me." So, he despised his counsel. 00:17:19.33\00:17:22.90 The problem is, Cain had a problem. 00:17:22.94\00:17:27.31 He was stubborn, he was disobedient. 00:17:27.34\00:17:29.98 He wanted to do it exactly the way he wanted it. 00:17:30.01\00:17:35.02 Do you remember this name, Frank--Frank Sinatra? 00:17:35.05\00:17:38.95 1969, he came out with a song, very famous song. 00:17:38.99\00:17:43.76 What's it called? "My Way." 00:17:43.79\00:17:47.30 And that's exactly what Cain did, Cain did it his way. 00:17:47.36\00:17:52.10 You know, I pulled one of the lines of the songs, of this 00:17:52.13\00:17:55.04 particular song, and I found it interesting. 00:17:55.07\00:17:57.27 And it says here, "And to think I did all that. 00:17:57.31\00:18:01.41 And may I say not in a shy way? 00:18:01.44\00:18:04.68 No, no, no, not me. I did it my way." 00:18:04.71\00:18:09.68 But, you know, let's look at it from Cain's standpoint. 00:18:09.72\00:18:12.52 "I did it my way. I placed the fruit on the altar. 00:18:12.55\00:18:15.86 I did it my way." And God says, "Yup, you did. 00:18:15.89\00:18:19.69 Have it your way." 00:18:19.73\00:18:21.00 Now, we're pulling in a Burger King commercial right now. 00:18:21.03\00:18:23.80 "Have it your way, the way you want it. 00:18:23.83\00:18:25.43 You want to do that? You do it that way. 00:18:25.47\00:18:27.27 But you know what? I'm not approving of that. 00:18:27.30\00:18:29.27 I'm not sending fire of that. See you later". 00:18:29.30\00:18:32.57 Let's go on with Abel. 00:18:32.61\00:18:35.94 And this is exactly what Cain did, he failed to understand. 00:18:35.98\00:18:39.75 You see, here's in a very core sense the difference 00:18:39.78\00:18:44.39 between Abel's sacrifice and the difference 00:18:44.42\00:18:47.29 between Cain's sacrifice. 00:18:47.32\00:18:49.49 Without the shedding of blood, there 00:18:49.52\00:18:51.96 is how much remission of sin? 00:18:51.99\00:18:55.20 Zero, there's no remission of sin at all. 00:18:55.23\00:18:58.33 So, what bloodshed is there? 00:18:58.37\00:19:01.90 Have you ever seen an apple bleed? 00:19:01.94\00:19:04.44 Maybe a beet might bleed, but certainly not a mango. 00:19:04.47\00:19:09.14 None of these things are going to bleed. 00:19:09.18\00:19:10.85 So, we find that there is--this is to show their faith in the 00:19:10.88\00:19:14.75 blood of Christ, as promised in the Atonement, 00:19:14.78\00:19:17.12 by offering the first, first things of their 00:19:17.15\00:19:19.59 fruit, of their flock in sacrifice. 00:19:19.62\00:19:22.02 Besides this, the firstfruits of the earth were to be presented 00:19:22.06\00:19:26.36 before God, not as a sacrifice, but as a 00:19:26.39\00:19:29.73 love offering instead, a thank offering. 00:19:29.76\00:19:32.80 So, we find here Cain obeyed. He built the altar. 00:19:32.83\00:19:37.64 Cain obeyed in bringing a sacrifice, 00:19:37.67\00:19:41.64 but he only rendered partial obedience. 00:19:41.68\00:19:45.25 The essential part, the recognition 00:19:45.28\00:19:47.88 of the need of a redeemer was left out. 00:19:47.92\00:19:53.22 Could this be the problem that we have in the world today? 00:19:53.25\00:19:58.46 The problem in the sense that God says of all the Ten 00:19:58.49\00:20:02.53 Commandments, eight of them say "thou shalt," 00:20:02.56\00:20:07.74 one says "honor, the other says "remember"? 00:20:07.77\00:20:13.24 Could it be that the same problem exists in the world 00:20:13.27\00:20:16.48 today that they want to have it their way, that they want to 00:20:16.51\00:20:19.95 worship their way, on their day, in their style? 00:20:19.98\00:20:27.02 So, in a sense, when you think about it, can God 00:20:27.06\00:20:30.19 be there when they worship in that way? 00:20:30.23\00:20:35.16 You know, as Seventh Day Adventists, 00:20:35.20\00:20:37.43 I want to caution you, just because you come here 00:20:37.47\00:20:41.47 on the Sabbath, you may have the day correct, 00:20:41.50\00:20:46.98 but remember, some churches may not 00:20:47.01\00:20:49.31 have the way in worship correct. 00:20:49.34\00:20:52.45 We may not have the way in keeping the Sabbath correct. 00:20:52.48\00:20:56.15 And in so doing, we fall into the same 00:20:56.18\00:20:58.15 trap that Cain has fallen into himself. 00:20:58.19\00:21:02.12 Dr. Doukhan says the following, "Take note here that Cain's 00:21:02.16\00:21:07.23 offer was to God," quote, "to God." 00:21:07.23\00:21:11.77 Where Abel's offering was just, he just offers. 00:21:11.80\00:21:16.71 There's no mention of God. 00:21:16.74\00:21:18.57 There's a difference between the two. 00:21:18.61\00:21:21.24 This brings us to Tuesday's lesson, The Crime. 00:21:21.28\00:21:25.35 Doukhan once again, Dr. Doukhan says, "It is significant that 00:21:25.38\00:21:29.05 Cain's crime immediately follows this shift in the dialogue from 00:21:29.08\00:21:33.05 a failed vertical to the horizon." 00:21:33.09\00:21:36.19 What does that mean, failed vertical? 00:21:36.22\00:21:38.49 You see, there's a compliance. This came down from the top. 00:21:38.53\00:21:41.66 This is what God wants of you. 00:21:41.70\00:21:43.20 So, this is how it's supposed to be. 00:21:43.23\00:21:45.67 But instead of accepting that and following that, now he 00:21:45.70\00:21:48.77 shifts it from a vertical to a horizontal. 00:21:48.80\00:21:52.07 He starts looking at Abel, and he starts blaming, pointing 00:21:52.11\00:21:56.85 blame, finding fault with Abel in that sense. 00:21:56.88\00:22:01.18 And it finds here, the mechanism for the 00:22:01.22\00:22:03.55 first religious crime is suggested here. 00:22:03.59\00:22:07.89 The crimes of the zealous ones are not 00:22:07.92\00:22:10.29 committed because they feel they are right. 00:22:10.33\00:22:13.53 They're crimes of fanaticism, of religious intolerance, and they 00:22:13.56\00:22:18.60 convey from the failure to respond to God's Word. 00:22:18.63\00:22:23.04 When faith is replaced by human work 00:22:23.07\00:22:25.64 and control, crime will follow. 00:22:25.67\00:22:28.68 And that's exactly what happened. 00:22:28.71\00:22:30.81 Cain killed his brother. 00:22:30.85\00:22:33.82 Cain killed his brother, not because Cain felt he was right 00:22:33.85\00:22:39.12 or that he felt that his brother was wrong. 00:22:39.15\00:22:41.39 On the contrary, Cain killed his brother because Cain 00:22:41.42\00:22:45.76 was evil, and his brother was righteous. 00:22:45.79\00:22:52.67 From "Patriarchs and Prophets," page 72, we're told that Cain 00:22:52.70\00:22:55.84 and Abel represent two classes that exist in the world today, 00:22:55.87\00:23:00.61 two classes that exist in the close of time. 00:23:00.64\00:23:02.94 One class avails themselves to the appointed sacrifice for sin, 00:23:02.98\00:23:07.45 the other ventures to depend upon their own merits. 00:23:07.48\00:23:10.25 Theirs is a sacrifice without the virtue 00:23:10.29\00:23:13.19 of divine meditation, or divine mediation. 00:23:13.22\00:23:18.46 And thus, it is not able to bring man into favor with God. 00:23:18.49\00:23:22.70 It is only through the merits of Jesus 00:23:22.73\00:23:25.27 that our transgressions can be pardoned. 00:23:25.30\00:23:28.64 We find that those who feel no need of the blood of Christ will 00:23:28.67\00:23:33.38 feel that without divine grace, they can make 00:23:33.41\00:23:36.08 their own work secure and their approval of God 00:23:36.11\00:23:40.15 and make the same mistake as did Cain. 00:23:40.18\00:23:44.25 If they do not accept the cleansing blood, they are under 00:23:44.29\00:23:48.16 condemnation if there is no other provision 00:23:48.19\00:23:51.36 thereby made that can release them from sin. 00:23:51.39\00:23:56.03 You see, many of us, that type of thing is only a form of 00:23:56.06\00:24:01.74 godliness denying the power there is. 00:24:01.77\00:24:04.91 So, it is unsafe for us to linger in our thoughts. 00:24:04.94\00:24:10.35 How do you think Cain had the idea to bring fruit? 00:24:10.38\00:24:15.12 Do you think he was just there tending to his vegetables one 00:24:15.15\00:24:17.99 day and his fruit and he decided, "Hmm, let me just bring 00:24:18.02\00:24:22.12 a few of the things that I just plucked off the tree"? 00:24:22.16\00:24:26.19 Do you think that's how it happened? 00:24:26.23\00:24:27.60 Or do you think it was maybe the voice, the impression of Satan, 00:24:27.60\00:24:32.13 that was speaking to him that said, "Hey Cain, 00:24:32.17\00:24:35.64 don't follow what Abel's doing. 00:24:35.67\00:24:38.01 You don't have to bring the lamb. 00:24:38.04\00:24:41.84 You don't have to do that. It's not about that. 00:24:41.88\00:24:45.45 You don't have to kill a good animal. 00:24:45.48\00:24:47.08 Why not just bring the best fruit that you have, the ones 00:24:47.12\00:24:50.05 without blemish, the one without spot or anything like that? 00:24:50.09\00:24:53.25 Just bring one of those and put them up there because God 00:24:53.29\00:24:56.36 doesn't care 'cause you could worship God, 00:24:56.39\00:25:01.36 you know, on Monday, on Tuesday, on 00:25:01.40\00:25:04.77 Wednesday, on Thursday, on Friday, on Sunday. 00:25:04.80\00:25:08.34 It doesn't--it doesn't matter what day you worship, 00:25:08.37\00:25:11.51 just so long as you worship God." 00:25:11.54\00:25:14.28 Heard that before? 00:25:14.31\00:25:18.91 So, we find all this happens. 00:25:18.95\00:25:25.29 It's not safe for us in these days. 00:25:25.32\00:25:28.82 It's a very dangerous thing. 00:25:28.86\00:25:31.46 Maybe you've heard this before, that when you go into a very bad 00:25:31.49\00:25:36.50 place, your guardian angel can't follow you. 00:25:36.53\00:25:40.74 He stays outside. Have you heard that one before? 00:25:40.77\00:25:45.11 You see, there's truth to that. 00:25:45.14\00:25:48.54 When we venture onto Satan's playground, we have no assurance 00:25:48.58\00:25:52.41 of God's protection, no assurance at all. 00:25:52.45\00:25:55.22 And this was what happened to Cain as a result of this. 00:25:55.25\00:25:58.95 We find that from "Thoughts From The Mount of Blessings," page 00:25:58.99\00:26:01.99 118 it says, "The only safeguard against evil is the indwelling 00:26:02.02\00:26:05.83 of Christ in the heart through faith in His righteousness." 00:26:05.86\00:26:10.17 Notice, through faith in His righteousness, 00:26:10.20\00:26:12.67 not through faith in your own righteousness. 00:26:12.70\00:26:15.57 "It is because of selfishness that exists in our 00:26:15.60\00:26:18.14 heart, that temptation has power over us. 00:26:18.17\00:26:22.31 But when we behold the great love of God, selfishness appears 00:26:22.34\00:26:26.38 to us as its hideous and repulsive character, and we 00:26:26.41\00:26:29.88 desire to have it expelled from the soul. 00:26:29.92\00:26:33.29 As the Holy Spirit glorifies Christ, 00:26:33.32\00:26:36.52 our hearts are softened and subdued. 00:26:36.56\00:26:39.93 The temptation loses its power, and the grace 00:26:39.96\00:26:42.63 of Christ transforms the character." 00:26:42.66\00:26:45.13 But in Cain's case, that's not the situation, which brings us 00:26:45.17\00:26:53.31 to Wednesday, The Punishment of Cain. 00:26:53.34\00:26:57.61 There's an echo that's heard from chapter 3 in Genesis 00:26:57.65\00:27:02.08 and that echo is when God says, "Where are you?" 00:27:02.12\00:27:08.32 God asked Adam, "Where are you?" Where was Adam? 00:27:08.36\00:27:13.53 He was hiding out somewhere in the Garden. 00:27:13.56\00:27:15.90 I mean, look, this is a very rhetorical question that God 00:27:15.93\00:27:18.80 asked because He knows the answer to that. 00:27:18.83\00:27:20.90 Can--you know, don't ever try to play hide 00:27:20.94\00:27:22.94 and go seek with God, it's a lose-lose situation. 00:27:22.97\00:27:27.38 So, when He says, "Where are you?" 00:27:27.41\00:27:28.84 He already knows. 00:27:28.88\00:27:30.11 He's saying that for your own benefit, for you to be able to 00:27:30.15\00:27:32.98 think and to say, "Why am I hiding?" 00:27:33.01\00:27:39.85 We find here that this punishment comes on. 00:27:39.89\00:27:44.43 And the lesson says that Cain will not acknowledge his sins. 00:27:44.46\00:27:49.63 He denies it, something that Adam didn't do, even 00:27:49.66\00:27:53.00 though he tried to put blame elsewhere. 00:27:53.03\00:27:56.20 "This woman you created, she's the one that did it to me. 00:27:56.24\00:27:59.57 She's the one that made me eat it." 00:27:59.61\00:28:01.61 Cain, in contrast, he openly defies God. 00:28:01.64\00:28:05.11 He doesn't waste any time confronting Cain on this crime. 00:28:05.15\00:28:10.95 Instead of acknowledging his sin, Cain continues to complain 00:28:10.99\00:28:14.46 of God's injustice and to cherish jealousy. 00:28:14.49\00:28:19.39 Because of all this, the truth was being agitated in him. 00:28:19.43\00:28:24.13 Every time Abel spoke truth, how do you think Cain felt? 00:28:24.17\00:28:28.60 He just got more and more tighter, more and more wound up. 00:28:28.64\00:28:34.58 But yet, Cain, Cain trying to be the good guy, the good brother, 00:28:34.61\00:28:39.05 the righteous one, it says here, "In meekness, yet fearlessly and 00:28:39.08\00:28:43.79 firmly, Abel defended the justice and goodness of God." 00:28:43.82\00:28:48.02 He pointed out Cain's error and tried to convince 00:28:48.06\00:28:52.23 him, "Look, brother, you're wrong. 00:28:52.26\00:28:56.63 You can't do it this way." 00:28:56.67\00:28:59.67 Does that help at all when somebody is really angry? 00:28:59.70\00:29:04.54 That's like, okay, you got a little bit of a 00:29:04.57\00:29:06.41 fire going, and you just take a little bit 00:29:06.44\00:29:09.04 of gasoline and throw it on the fire. 00:29:09.08\00:29:12.88 You know what happens when you do that? 00:29:12.91\00:29:15.68 I found out once the hard way. 00:29:15.72\00:29:19.22 I raked my leaves, made a nice row of them, 00:29:19.25\00:29:22.26 and I put some gasoline in there. 00:29:22.29\00:29:24.76 And I made a little trail. 00:29:24.79\00:29:28.23 My neighbor told me, "In the future, use diesel. 00:29:28.26\00:29:32.33 It goes a lot slower." 00:29:32.37\00:29:33.80 Because the moment you light--I don't care 00:29:33.84\00:29:35.34 how long that trail is, it just poof. 00:29:35.37\00:29:37.51 It looked like a scene from a Hollywood movie out there. 00:29:37.54\00:29:43.85 Cain was angry. He was so indignant. 00:29:43.88\00:29:50.89 He found Abel, and we're told that in the 00:29:50.92\00:29:54.76 fury of his passion, he slew his brother. 00:29:54.79\00:29:59.66 It's one thing to say he killed Abel. 00:29:59.69\00:30:03.00 It makes it so distant. 00:30:03.03\00:30:06.07 But here he slew his brother, his own flesh and blood. 00:30:06.10\00:30:14.48 Abel's life of obedience and unswerving 00:30:14.51\00:30:17.65 faith was to Cain a perpetual reproof. 00:30:17.68\00:30:22.15 He hated that. 00:30:22.18\00:30:24.12 That's much like how it is today and even 00:30:24.15\00:30:28.12 more so when we get to the future. 00:30:28.16\00:30:30.49 Because we're told, "The brighter the heavenly light that 00:30:30.53\00:30:33.26 is reflected from the character of God's faithful servants, the 00:30:33.29\00:30:37.70 more clearly the sin of the ungodly is revealed. 00:30:37.73\00:30:41.77 And the more determined will be their efforts 00:30:41.80\00:30:44.14 to destroy those who disturb their peace." 00:30:44.17\00:30:47.81 Pouring the gas on the fire. 00:30:47.84\00:30:52.18 Whenever a person turns their back and renounces 00:30:52.21\00:30:55.42 the life of sin they have lived, Satan is furious. 00:30:55.45\00:31:02.06 He is very, very angry. 00:31:02.09\00:31:10.73 Do you remember the name Roger Morneau? 00:31:10.77\00:31:16.20 You know, there's a reason why Satan is angry because once you 00:31:16.24\00:31:21.88 go from Satan's side to God's side, all of a sudden, you know 00:31:21.91\00:31:27.42 what the plans were, and you're able to use those and turn them 00:31:27.45\00:31:32.82 around to be able to win those same ones to Christ now. 00:31:32.85\00:31:38.33 Hence, we're told that in the circle that is 00:31:38.36\00:31:41.86 around Jesus in heaven, the closest ring around 00:31:41.90\00:31:46.13 Him are those who once served Satan. 00:31:46.17\00:31:50.41 That's the closest ring. 00:31:50.44\00:31:52.54 There's different circles around Christ. 00:31:52.57\00:31:55.61 That's the closest one because they once served Satan, and this 00:31:55.64\00:32:02.05 is what happens when Satan finds out that one of you has turned 00:32:02.08\00:32:07.76 their backs on Him, you've surrendered your 00:32:07.79\00:32:10.06 life, you've given it wholly to Christ. 00:32:10.09\00:32:13.16 Now he's indignant, he's furious. 00:32:13.19\00:32:16.77 He tries to turn up the heat more. 00:32:16.80\00:32:19.37 But you know what? 00:32:19.40\00:32:20.74 If you're convicted, if you're consecrated, 00:32:20.77\00:32:23.34 there's no turning back. 00:32:23.37\00:32:24.77 You're never going to go back and serve Satan ever again. 00:32:24.81\00:32:32.35 One of my favorite quotes that we find in the Spirit of 00:32:32.38\00:32:34.68 Prophecy, it's found in Review and Herald December 16, 1890. 00:32:34.72\00:32:41.59 It says, "If you indulge stubbornness of heart, and 00:32:41.62\00:32:44.46 through pride and self righteousness, 00:32:44.49\00:32:45.96 you do not confess your faults, you will be 00:32:45.99\00:32:48.63 left subject to Satan's temptations. 00:32:48.66\00:32:51.13 If when the Lord reveals your error, you do not confess, 00:32:51.17\00:32:55.04 His providence will bring you over the ground 00:32:55.07\00:32:57.21 again and again," just like he did with Cain. 00:32:57.24\00:33:01.84 "You will continue to lack wisdom, and you 00:33:01.88\00:33:05.21 will make mistakes of a similar character. 00:33:05.25\00:33:08.22 You will call sin righteousness and righteousness sin." 00:33:08.25\00:33:12.59 And guess what? 00:33:12.62\00:33:13.92 The multitude of deceptions that prevail in the last days 00:33:13.96\00:33:16.39 will encircle you, and you will change leaders 00:33:16.42\00:33:19.79 and not know you have done so. 00:33:19.83\00:33:22.30 This is exactly what happened in Cain's situation. 00:33:22.33\00:33:26.23 Cain built the altar. He grabbed the same stones. 00:33:26.27\00:33:30.17 He set it up, looked exactly the same. 00:33:30.21\00:33:32.54 However, he had changed leaders and in changing leaders, he 00:33:32.57\00:33:38.05 changed his ideals of what he thought would be a sac--correct 00:33:38.08\00:33:42.85 sacrifice because he did it his way. 00:33:42.88\00:33:48.52 We find that God's sacri--God's sacred--He spared, sorry. 00:33:48.56\00:33:55.23 God spared Cain's life. 00:33:55.26\00:33:57.27 In doing so, He created a perpetual lesson about the great 00:33:57.30\00:34:02.70 controversy with Cain and his lineage to show that, look, 00:34:02.74\00:34:09.18 there's a reason why the sinner cannot live on forever. 00:34:09.21\00:34:15.48 The sinner cannot live on to carry 00:34:15.52\00:34:17.12 out their rebellion against God. 00:34:17.15\00:34:19.89 There's got to come an end to all this, and you know what? 00:34:19.92\00:34:25.36 God watched all this that was going on and in His mercy, 00:34:25.39\00:34:29.50 He provided Cain, the first murderer, 00:34:29.53\00:34:32.57 some kind of protection that was going on. 00:34:32.60\00:34:35.24 But what this protection was, we don't exactly know. 00:34:35.27\00:34:39.21 We're not told about it in the Bible, 00:34:39.24\00:34:41.58 Spirit of Prophecy, Josephus. 00:34:41.61\00:34:43.38 None of them say exactly what the protection was, 00:34:43.41\00:34:46.68 but we know this, nobody could harm Cain. 00:34:46.72\00:34:52.89 Why would they want to harm Cain anyways? 00:34:52.92\00:34:55.62 Probably because he was the first murderer. 00:34:55.66\00:34:58.83 Think about this, everybody on the earth at this time 00:34:58.86\00:35:02.80 were all descendants of Adam and Eve. 00:35:02.83\00:35:05.90 They married their brothers and sisters. 00:35:05.93\00:35:08.17 It was okay back then, not okay today for very good reasons too. 00:35:08.20\00:35:15.41 But we find that as a result of this, you're talking 00:35:15.44\00:35:18.55 about this could have been their--well, it is, 00:35:18.58\00:35:21.82 it was their brother probably, right? 00:35:21.85\00:35:25.15 I mean, we don't know how many children 00:35:25.19\00:35:27.32 Adam and Eve had all together. 00:35:27.36\00:35:28.99 We only know of three that were given, Cain, Abel, and who else? 00:35:29.02\00:35:34.23 Seth, that's right, so we find that the year after 00:35:34.30\00:35:40.50 Abel was killed, Seth came on the scene. 00:35:40.54\00:35:45.61 We find that also that this evil continued and continued and 00:35:45.64\00:35:49.68 continued for 15 centuries, 15 centuries all through time. 00:35:49.71\00:35:55.85 And then it came down to a time where 00:35:55.88\00:35:57.52 God says, "Enough, I'm done with this, this is wrong." 00:35:57.55\00:36:04.96 This--you can't even see good anymore because the only good 00:36:04.99\00:36:09.26 thing that was left there, well, we'll get to that 00:36:09.30\00:36:14.67 in just a moment, in Friday's lesson. 00:36:14.70\00:36:17.64 But let's talk a little bit about Thursday's lesson, 00:36:17.67\00:36:20.48 The Wickedness of Man. 00:36:20.51\00:36:23.85 Get this scene. Lamech comes on the scene now. 00:36:23.88\00:36:27.98 He is the great, great, great grandson of Cain, 00:36:28.02\00:36:33.62 but there's a difference between Cain and Lamech. 00:36:33.66\00:36:36.29 You think Cain was bad? Come on. 00:36:36.32\00:36:41.23 Cain, Cain was quiet about his crime of killing his brother. 00:36:41.26\00:36:47.00 He didn't really go out there and say much, could be why God 00:36:47.04\00:36:50.17 protected him because he was fairly quiet about this. 00:36:50.21\00:36:53.74 But not so about Lamech. 00:36:53.78\00:36:58.48 Lamech was totally the opposite of Cain. 00:36:58.51\00:37:02.02 Cain was quiet, Lamech here-- look in your Bibles. 00:37:02.05\00:37:05.75 Just look, if you have it handy, look 00:37:05.79\00:37:07.82 at Genesis chapter 4:23 and 24. 00:37:07.86\00:37:12.03 He goes so far as to write a poem, 00:37:12.06\00:37:14.73 and he kicks it into a song. 00:37:14.73\00:37:17.73 I don't know if what type of song it was, definitely not a 00:37:17.77\00:37:20.34 country western song, but I can tell you this. 00:37:20.37\00:37:24.04 Listen to the words, it says, "Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; 00:37:24.07\00:37:29.31 wives of Lamech, listen to my speech." 00:37:29.34\00:37:31.61 I mean, look, he's naming himself in there. 00:37:31.65\00:37:33.62 He's bragging about this. 00:37:33.65\00:37:34.95 He says, "For I have killed a man for wounding 00:37:34.98\00:37:38.19 me, even a young man for hurting me. 00:37:38.22\00:37:41.49 If Cain shall have avenged sevenfold, 00:37:41.52\00:37:46.06 then Lamech seventy sevenfold." 00:37:46.09\00:37:50.50 Wow. This guy arrogant or what? 00:37:50.53\00:37:55.64 Is it all about him? 00:37:55.67\00:37:57.07 It kind of like the world just revolves around Lamech. 00:37:57.11\00:38:01.44 He's the first polygamist in the Bible. 00:38:01.48\00:38:05.25 I mean, where does he get the idea? 00:38:05.28\00:38:07.62 Once again, it had to have been inspired by Satan. 00:38:07.65\00:38:10.15 But where does he get the idea, 00:38:10.19\00:38:12.29 "Look, I'll just get another wife"? 00:38:12.32\00:38:14.69 As if one's not enough, hmm. 00:38:14.72\00:38:20.53 Dr. Jacques Doukhan writes here and he says, "There is also 00:38:20.56\00:38:25.57 contrast between the crime of Cain and the crime of Lamech. 00:38:25.60\00:38:30.91 Unlike Cain, Lamech took murder one step further. 00:38:30.94\00:38:35.38 Lamech presented his killing as a positive and valuable act." 00:38:35.41\00:38:40.98 And literally, he's boasting about it. 00:38:41.02\00:38:44.85 Can you imagine that? "Hey, guys, check this out. 00:38:44.89\00:38:47.49 I killed this dude. Isn't that cool?" 00:38:47.52\00:38:51.49 What is wrong with him? 00:38:51.53\00:38:53.66 "While Cain chose to remain silent, 00:38:53.70\00:38:56.26 Lamech, in contrast, he writes a song. 00:38:56.30\00:38:59.70 Whereas Cain asked God for mercy, Lamech ignores God and 00:38:59.73\00:39:04.04 instead subjects his wife to a litany of his prowess and his 00:39:04.07\00:39:08.48 homicidal feat as feat worthy of approbation. 00:39:08.51\00:39:13.85 The same paradigm shift observed in Cain's crime 00:39:13.88\00:39:17.85 also can be traced here in the failure of that 00:39:17.89\00:39:21.46 vertical relationship between God and human. 00:39:21.49\00:39:26.33 It yields to a violence turning against the human other." 00:39:26.36\00:39:31.40 In fact it says here, Dr. Doukhan continues writing and he 00:39:31.43\00:39:35.24 says, "Lamech moves to the opposite of forgiveness. 00:39:35.27\00:39:39.07 He speaks of revenge, alluding to 00:39:39.11\00:39:42.58 the additional crimes in the future." 00:39:42.61\00:39:46.41 Wow. This guy is messed up. 00:39:46.45\00:39:52.22 "Even his revenge was given considerable intensification. 00:39:52.25\00:39:55.59 While Cain is avenged only seven times, Lamech requires an 00:39:55.62\00:40:00.50 increase to seventy times seven." 00:40:00.53\00:40:04.20 That's very interesting, isn't it? 00:40:04.23\00:40:05.90 That later on we find in Matthew when they asked Jesus, 00:40:05.93\00:40:11.17 "How many times should I forgive them?" 00:40:11.21\00:40:14.94 Jesus plays on those same words. How many times? 00:40:14.98\00:40:18.55 Seventy times seven, that's how many times. 00:40:18.58\00:40:22.75 And then we come to the birth of Seth, 00:40:22.78\00:40:25.39 and what do we know of Seth? 00:40:25.42\00:40:27.09 Dr. Doukhan, who writes again, he says, "The repetition of the 00:40:27.12\00:40:32.03 first phrase that introduced the birth of the firstborn Cain 00:40:32.06\00:40:36.33 suggested a return to the beginning. 00:40:36.36\00:40:40.07 In addition, the repetition of the word 'again' 00:40:40.10\00:40:44.34 attached to the birth of Seth echoes again 00:40:44.37\00:40:47.78 the associated with the birth of Abel." 00:40:47.81\00:40:51.85 Remember, for Cain it was she gave birth to a son 00:40:51.88\00:40:56.38 that she was hoping would be the Messiah. 00:40:56.42\00:40:59.25 And then she bore again, that was Abel. 00:40:59.29\00:41:03.49 Now she bore again to Seth. 00:41:03.53\00:41:07.60 Seth, interestingly enough, the name 00:41:07.60\00:41:12.07 Seth means to put in place of. 00:41:12.10\00:41:16.77 Abel's gone so now Seth takes 00:41:16.81\00:41:19.64 his place as one of the righteous. 00:41:19.67\00:41:22.54 And if you follow the lineage down, 00:41:22.58\00:41:24.81 it's very interesting to look at the lineage. 00:41:24.85\00:41:27.52 You follow, and it goes on with Cain, then you look at Abel. 00:41:27.55\00:41:31.15 Abel's is gone. 00:41:31.19\00:41:33.22 And from the timeline, I find it kind of interesting that this 00:41:33.25\00:41:36.49 whole thing that happened with Cain killing Abel, Abel was 00:41:36.52\00:41:41.56 about 75 years old, 75, 78 years old, when this happened. 00:41:41.60\00:41:46.94 Seems old for us but for them, I mean that that's nothing when 00:41:46.97\00:41:51.84 they're living to 900 years of age. 00:41:51.87\00:41:54.54 Seventy is like an--I don't know how you count it. 00:41:54.58\00:41:57.88 Do you reverse dog age back or something like that? 00:41:57.91\00:42:00.85 But that would be like seven or eight years for us. 00:42:00.88\00:42:06.39 So, Seth takes on the righteous line, 00:42:06.42\00:42:10.63 and he carries that on through the future. 00:42:10.66\00:42:15.90 Seth is the one that follows the closest by following the example 00:42:15.93\00:42:24.74 also of Christ, the same that Abel did before he was cut off. 00:42:24.77\00:42:31.38 So, Seth picks it up and continues on that way. 00:42:31.41\00:42:35.62 This brings us to Friday. 00:42:35.65\00:42:38.59 The further thoughts of this little boy 00:42:38.62\00:42:42.32 that comes on, his name is Enoch. 00:42:42.36\00:42:45.46 What do we know about Enoch? It said that he walked with God. 00:42:45.49\00:42:51.17 How many years did he walk with God, do you remember? 00:42:51.20\00:42:55.04 Three hundred years. That's a little bit of time. 00:42:55.07\00:42:59.77 We can't really fathom that, can we? 00:42:59.81\00:43:03.65 We can't fathom living 300 years, 00:43:03.68\00:43:05.78 let alone living for all eternity. 00:43:05.81\00:43:08.55 But I like the way a little boy describes it. 00:43:08.58\00:43:11.52 He says one day, Enoch went for a walk, 00:43:11.55\00:43:15.62 and he went for a walk with God, and God walked with him. 00:43:15.66\00:43:20.26 And then Enoch said, "I need to go home. 00:43:20.30\00:43:23.20 It's getting late." 00:43:23.23\00:43:24.57 And God said, "Okay, I'll see you tomorrow." 00:43:24.60\00:43:27.30 And Enoch came home. 00:43:27.34\00:43:29.27 And the next day, Enoch went for another 00:43:29.30\00:43:31.37 walk, and he walked with God again. 00:43:31.41\00:43:34.48 And then at the end of the day as the sun was setting, he says, 00:43:34.51\00:43:37.61 "God, I need to get back home because it's getting late." 00:43:37.65\00:43:40.48 And this happened day after day, 365 days a year for 300 years. 00:43:40.52\00:43:49.42 Finally, Enoch went for the walk, and he was so focused, he 00:43:49.46\00:43:55.66 was so enthralled with talking to God in his relationship that 00:43:55.70\00:44:00.27 he totally forgot the fact that not only is the sun getting low 00:44:00.30\00:44:04.74 in the sky, but now the sun set and it's getting dark. 00:44:04.77\00:44:08.41 But they have been walking and walking and walking. 00:44:08.44\00:44:11.85 And the little boy says, as he tells the story, 00:44:11.88\00:44:15.55 Enoch says, "Lord, I need to get back home. 00:44:15.58\00:44:20.36 It's very late now." 00:44:20.39\00:44:22.39 And God turned and He looked at Enoch and He says, "My son, you 00:44:22.42\00:44:26.29 have walked with me these 300 years so faithfully. 00:44:26.33\00:44:31.43 You are so far from your home, but you are so close to my home. 00:44:31.47\00:44:37.34 Come home with me." 00:44:37.37\00:44:39.57 And the Bible says, "He was no more." 00:44:39.61\00:44:44.51 I don't know about you, but I feel emotional about that 00:44:44.55\00:44:48.12 because here is the possibility for us today. 00:44:48.15\00:44:53.72 Do you realize that? 00:44:53.76\00:44:55.36 We are living on the very precipice of Jesus's coming, and 00:44:55.39\00:44:59.39 we could hear those same words, "You are so far from your home, 00:44:59.43\00:45:04.90 but you're so close to my home, just come home with me." 00:45:04.93\00:45:09.00 Because that day is not afar off. 00:45:09.04\00:45:12.94 What do you say? 00:45:12.97\00:45:16.18 But not everybody that says, "Lord, Lord," 00:45:16.21\00:45:20.88 will enter into the Kingdom of heaven. 00:45:20.92\00:45:24.05 Just because you're here today and you got 00:45:24.09\00:45:26.25 the day right doesn't mean that you're there. 00:45:26.29\00:45:29.59 It means that you still got a ways to go. 00:45:29.62\00:45:33.23 There's righteous living. 00:45:33.26\00:45:34.83 So, how do you live righteously amidst all the chaos, 00:45:34.86\00:45:39.20 all the evil that's in the world today? 00:45:39.23\00:45:42.77 You know, there's a time period that I hate going 00:45:42.80\00:45:44.64 into stores, and that is around Halloween. 00:45:44.67\00:45:48.61 I just hate going in there, looking at all these 00:45:48.64\00:45:51.71 demonic things staring at me, it's just ugly. 00:45:51.75\00:45:56.69 But then again, you think, how bad--I mean, have you ever 00:45:56.72\00:46:01.69 thought, how bad must have been the world before the flood? 00:46:01.72\00:46:06.63 How bad was it in the antediluvian 00:46:06.66\00:46:08.96 days for all this to happen? 00:46:09.00\00:46:12.23 And how did Enoch live amidst that time period? 00:46:12.27\00:46:16.71 I mean, if you could have his game plan of how Enoch lived, 00:46:16.74\00:46:25.51 that would be the path that would be able to needle the way 00:46:25.55\00:46:29.12 through that you could thread that way through the chaos 00:46:29.15\00:46:32.75 of today and make it out alive, and we're told that path. 00:46:32.79\00:46:39.53 We're told in "Patriarchs and Prophets," page 85 it says here, 00:46:39.56\00:46:45.63 "Distressed by the increasing wickedness of the ungodly and 00:46:45.67\00:46:49.67 fearing that their infidelity might lessen his reverence for 00:46:49.70\00:46:53.17 God, Enoch, he avoided constant association with them." 00:46:53.21\00:46:59.38 It doesn't mean that he said he never 00:46:59.41\00:47:01.22 talked to them or anything like that. 00:47:01.25\00:47:02.82 No, he talked with them, but he 00:47:02.85\00:47:04.82 avoided constant association with them. 00:47:04.85\00:47:08.69 He spent much time in solitude. Why? 00:47:08.72\00:47:11.56 Because in solitude, that is where you come to God in prayer. 00:47:11.59\00:47:14.93 That's where you pray for protection. 00:47:14.93\00:47:16.77 That's where you pray to keep your mind stayed on Christ. 00:47:16.80\00:47:20.10 That's where you pray to have the indwelling 00:47:20.14\00:47:22.04 of the Holy Spirit within your heart. 00:47:22.07\00:47:23.64 You can't do it when you're out in the world. 00:47:23.67\00:47:29.38 It takes a deep commitment to dig deep foundations. 00:47:29.41\00:47:33.75 So, he spent much time in prayer, 00:47:33.78\00:47:35.55 giving himself to meditation and prayer. 00:47:35.58\00:47:37.99 Thus, he waited before the Lord. For what reason? 00:47:38.02\00:47:45.03 Because there's one thing to study, there's one thing to 00:47:45.06\00:47:48.10 pray, and there's another thing to just be quiet and listen. 00:47:48.13\00:47:53.64 What are you listening for? 00:47:53.67\00:47:54.97 You're listening for the counsel. 00:47:55.00\00:47:58.51 You're listening for the prompting 00:47:58.54\00:48:00.28 of the still, small voice. 00:48:00.31\00:48:01.84 You're listening for the Holy Spirit 00:48:01.88\00:48:03.65 to give you the directive for the day. 00:48:03.68\00:48:05.71 And it says here, "He waited before the Lord, seeking a 00:48:05.75\00:48:09.72 clearer knowledge of His will, that he might perform it." 00:48:09.75\00:48:14.69 Now get this, this last sentence says it all. 00:48:14.72\00:48:17.96 "To him, prayer was as the breath of the soul." 00:48:17.99\00:48:23.53 He lived on earth. 00:48:23.57\00:48:25.77 He lived amidst the sinfulness of the antediluvians, 00:48:25.80\00:48:30.67 all the carnality, all that stuff. 00:48:30.71\00:48:32.61 He lived during that time period but it says here, 00:48:32.64\00:48:36.88 "He lived in the very atmosphere of heaven." 00:48:36.91\00:48:42.32 He lived in this bubble, not a bubble that says, 00:48:42.35\00:48:45.99 "I don't know that you're there. 00:48:46.02\00:48:47.42 I'm just trying to avoid you." No, he was a constant witness. 00:48:47.46\00:48:51.03 He was a constant prick to their sinfulness, 00:48:51.06\00:48:54.10 but he lived in the atmosphere of God. 00:48:54.10\00:48:58.37 He lived in the presence of God. 00:48:58.40\00:49:00.90 Do you remember years ago there was 00:49:00.94\00:49:02.24 that WWJD, What Would Jesus Do? 00:49:02.27\00:49:06.31 Forget that. I got a better one for you. 00:49:06.34\00:49:10.35 Practice the presence of God. 00:53:49.56\00:53:52.19 And that promise really stood out to me. 00:53:52.23\00:53:56.10 And He said, "How much more do I love you? 00:53:56.13\00:53:59.47 You know, I'm not going to send you on a mission to do My work 00:53:59.50\00:54:04.11 and leave you high and dry because you claim to be My 00:54:04.14\00:54:07.38 child, you claim to be My son, and everyone knows that." 00:54:07.41\00:54:13.08 That assurance allows me to know that whatever happens here, 00:54:13.11\00:54:18.42 whatever happens after here, we're sons of God, and there are 00:54:18.45\00:54:24.56 certain things that we shouldn't worry about. 00:54:24.59\00:54:27.46 From the day we arrived at AFCOE, it's been 00:54:27.50\00:54:32.40 obvious that God has blessed the Amazing Facts Ministry, 00:54:32.43\00:54:36.24 the AFCOE program. 00:54:36.27\00:54:38.24 And I will be using my AFCOE experience no matter where I go 00:54:38.27\00:54:44.58 to reach people because the personal touch of face-to-face 00:54:44.61\00:54:49.98 evangelism, speaking and sharing the Word of God out of your own 00:54:50.02\00:54:54.56 mouth, there's no replacement for that. 00:54:54.59\00:54:57.76 And Amazing Facts has been very instrumental in helping 00:54:57.79\00:55:00.96 me find the area of the work of God and 00:55:00.96\00:55:07.64 showing me how large and how broad it is. 00:55:07.67\00:55:11.14 It's been a tremendous blessing to be in a place where we're 00:55:11.17\00:55:15.34 around people seeking to do God's will 00:55:15.38\00:55:19.01 and listening for His voice in their life. 00:55:19.05\00:55:21.55 And that's very, very important today. 00:55:21.58\00:55:24.22 Raul: I was born in a small Christian family, grew up in 00:55:33.23\00:55:36.90 Puerto Rico, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. 00:55:36.93\00:55:39.10 My dad was a pastor of our churches there. 00:55:39.13\00:55:42.87 After I graduated from high school, I was so excited. 00:55:42.90\00:55:46.11 You know, I just wanted to leave the house 00:55:46.14\00:55:47.84 and see the world, if you will. 00:55:47.88\00:55:50.65 Came up to the states, went to school in Texas, 00:55:50.68\00:55:53.75 and went to a Christian college there. 00:55:53.78\00:55:56.02 I rebelled against the Christian concept that I became an 00:55:56.05\00:56:01.16 agnostic 16, 17 years after I have left the church. 00:56:01.19\00:56:06.43 I had three roommates, and we were living the life, 00:56:06.46\00:56:09.56 you know, back then, you know, doing deals with drugs 00:56:09.60\00:56:12.67 and selling drugs and all that kind of stuff. 00:56:12.70\00:56:16.40 The police came over, and they raided the apartment. 00:56:16.44\00:56:20.88 They took my three friends to jail. 00:56:20.91\00:56:24.51 When I found out, it shook me. I should have been there too. 00:56:24.55\00:56:33.79 I reached out to God and I said, "Lord, if you exist, get me out 00:56:33.82\00:56:38.16 of this situation, and I'll go back to your ways." 00:56:38.19\00:56:43.23 Right around that time, I met this awesome, young lady. 00:56:43.26\00:56:48.07 She was a Christian. 00:56:48.10\00:56:49.60 After dating for about a year and a half, someone came to our 00:56:49.64\00:56:53.64 church to give a series of prophecy seminars. 00:56:53.68\00:56:58.28 I decided to re-baptize, make it a fact that I was coming back to 00:56:58.31\00:57:02.92 church, that I was giving my life back to God. 00:57:02.95\00:57:06.25 Amazing Facts became an important part of my life. 00:57:06.29\00:57:09.26 Sermons, Sabbath school lessons, DVDs, videos, magazines, and 00:57:09.29\00:57:15.63 especially after looking and watching Pastor Doug Batchelor, 00:57:15.66\00:57:20.44 listening to his experience, has really made a 00:57:20.47\00:57:23.54 difference in my life to the point where I 00:57:23.57\00:57:26.01 am right now a totally different individual. 00:57:26.04\00:57:31.25 It's something that I am so grateful to have experienced. 00:57:31.28\00:57:36.55 I would recommend anyone that wants to give God 00:57:36.58\00:57:40.96 a chance in their life, you'll never be sorry that you did. 00:57:40.99\00:57:45.66 He loves you.
