00:00:37.03\00:00:39.33 of the "Sabbath School Study Hour" right here 00:00:39.37\00:00:41.07 in the Granite Bay Hilltop Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:00:41.10\00:00:43.04 in sunny California. 00:00:43.07\00:00:45.14 It's always good to be able to come together as we worship God 00:00:45.17\00:00:48.48 through the study of His Word. 00:00:48.51\00:00:50.95 Now, many of you have been joining us in the past, 00:00:50.98\00:00:53.98 have been enjoying the study of the book of Hebrews, 00:00:54.02\00:00:56.48 but we have wrapped that up. 00:00:56.52\00:00:58.09 We are moving to another book, in this case, 00:00:58.12\00:01:00.69 it's a book in the Old Testament. 00:01:00.72\00:01:02.96 And this one is the very first one that you can find in the 00:01:02.99\00:01:05.96 Bible, so it's an easy book to be able to find as far as where 00:01:05.99\00:01:08.93 is it located. 00:01:08.96\00:01:10.37 And the title of our new quarterly that we're starting 00:01:10.40\00:01:13.27 here today is entitled "The Book of Genesis," 00:01:13.30\00:01:16.07 or just simply "Genesis." 00:01:16.10\00:01:18.37 And so, we're looking at lesson one, 00:01:18.41\00:01:20.21 and it is entitled "Creation." 00:01:20.24\00:01:22.78 As many of you know, those first two chapters are instrumental 00:01:22.81\00:01:26.55 historically in revealing to us the actual origins of mankind, 00:01:26.58\00:01:30.82 life, all life forms on this planet, 00:01:30.85\00:01:33.39 as well as many other important information there as well. 00:01:33.42\00:01:36.02 So, please stick with us as we open that up. then we'll have our opening 00:03:07.22\00:03:08.95 prayer and our study. 00:03:08.98\00:03:11.02 ¤¤¤ 00:03:12.05\00:03:26.97 ¤¤¤ 00:03:26.97\00:03:46.99 Pastor Alden Ho: Our lesson this quarter is on Genesis, 00:06:37.66\00:06:40.83 and this is a very exciting topic. 00:06:40.86\00:06:44.33 And I was so excited to be able to bring in this new topic, 00:06:44.37\00:06:47.27 but the problem with bringing in a new lesson is, 00:06:47.30\00:06:50.51 for me, if you've seen me up here, 00:06:50.54\00:06:53.48 I always use my iPad, but it's not available in the 00:06:53.51\00:06:56.88 digital copy yet. 00:06:56.91\00:06:58.31 So, I had asked Clifford Jones, I said, 00:06:58.35\00:07:00.92 "Cliff, could you--" Clifford Goldstein. 00:07:00.95\00:07:03.32 I said, "Could you send me the digital?" 00:07:03.35\00:07:05.32 Well, they don't work on Fridays, 00:07:05.35\00:07:07.39 so the person who was supposed to send it did not send it. 00:07:07.42\00:07:11.29 So, I'm in the analog version today, 00:07:11.33\00:07:14.50 which I'm sure you are with as well. 00:07:14.56\00:07:16.43 So, let's go through this as I whet your appetite for 00:07:16.46\00:07:19.90 this coming quarter. 00:07:19.93\00:07:21.94 This quarter is all about creation--I mean, sorry. 00:07:21.97\00:07:25.97 It's all in Genesis. 00:07:26.01\00:07:27.48 Today it's about, on creation, and it's covering three main 00:07:27.51\00:07:31.48 areas, as the lesson points out here. 00:07:31.51\00:07:33.95 It's our beginnings as a human race. 00:07:33.98\00:07:37.12 It also is talking about the Sabbath, 00:07:37.15\00:07:40.32 but it's all enveloped in this word called grace. 00:07:40.36\00:07:44.06 So, as we begin, let me just pull up here and share a couple 00:07:44.09\00:07:48.60 things with you that hit me in the lesson 00:07:48.63\00:07:50.70 for Sabbath afternoon. 00:07:50.73\00:07:54.20 It's saying here in the Sabbath afternoon, 00:07:54.24\00:07:57.01 that there are two creation texts that stand out as 00:07:57.04\00:08:00.11 we study this week. 00:08:00.14\00:08:02.14 We are to understand better the profound meaning of the Sabbath, 00:08:02.18\00:08:06.88 and we will be covering that in one of the days coming up 00:08:06.92\00:08:09.48 here in the lesson. 00:08:09.52\00:08:11.39 But one of the texts that I wanted to bring to your 00:08:11.42\00:08:13.79 attention is in Psalms 100, Psalms 100, 00:08:13.82\00:08:17.26 verses 1, 2, and 3. 00:08:17.29\00:08:20.00 The Bible says here as David writes, 00:08:20.03\00:08:22.30 "Make a joyful shout to the Lord, 00:08:22.33\00:08:24.40 all you lands! 00:08:24.43\00:08:26.27 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence 00:08:26.30\00:08:29.00 with singing. 00:08:29.04\00:08:30.81 Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, 00:08:30.84\00:08:36.41 and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep 00:08:36.44\00:08:40.38 of His pasture." 00:08:40.42\00:08:42.62 Everything that God is, is because God is. 00:08:42.65\00:08:48.06 When Moses met Him, He described Himself as I Am, 00:08:48.09\00:08:54.00 "I am the I Am." 00:08:54.03\00:08:56.16 And they said, "Well, who sent You?" 00:08:56.20\00:08:58.57 "I Am sent Me." 00:08:58.60\00:09:00.57 So, God here is--some things that we have to understand about 00:09:00.60\00:09:05.01 God is that God created, not only the heavens and the earth, 00:09:05.04\00:09:11.08 but you find that in this whole section for this one-week 00:09:11.11\00:09:16.92 period, all this happens before there was even human existence. 00:09:16.95\00:09:23.56 Humans don't come along the scenes Sunday, 00:09:23.59\00:09:26.43 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 00:09:26.46\00:09:28.33 and then all of a sudden on Friday, 00:09:28.36\00:09:31.40 then humans pop up and only two of them come up here. 00:09:31.43\00:09:36.37 We also find that in this particular lesson, 00:09:36.40\00:09:39.91 it is the concepts that we are being introduced to is 00:09:39.94\00:09:44.15 the concept of creation and redemption. 00:09:44.18\00:09:49.05 Now, as we move to Sunday's lesson, 00:09:49.08\00:09:51.75 we have to be careful that we don't reduce God 00:09:51.79\00:09:55.62 to a common level. 00:09:55.66\00:09:58.79 We find that a lot today that some of the teachings that 00:09:58.83\00:10:03.26 we find take God and brings God down to the same level 00:10:03.30\00:10:07.50 that we are. 00:10:07.54\00:10:10.14 Now, that's something that we have to always keep in mind. 00:10:10.17\00:10:12.81 God is not on the same level as we are. 00:10:12.84\00:10:15.78 We are the sheep of His pasture. 00:10:15.81\00:10:18.95 Therefore, we are little lambs. 00:10:18.98\00:10:23.42 We are sheep over there. 00:10:23.45\00:10:25.32 But God, God is portrayed here in two different ways. 00:10:25.35\00:10:28.62 One is that He's very close to us. 00:10:28.66\00:10:31.53 He comes near to us. 00:10:31.56\00:10:33.36 The other part of it is, is God is far away, 00:10:33.40\00:10:36.97 not far away as in distance, He's so far that He's out 00:10:37.00\00:10:39.77 of reality with us. 00:10:39.80\00:10:41.84 He's so far away in the fact that He is 00:10:41.87\00:10:44.77 the God of the universe. 00:10:44.81\00:10:49.64 In this particular chapter--or particular day that we find the 00:10:49.68\00:10:54.65 first creation account, it represents God as infinite, 00:10:54.68\00:11:00.19 far from humans, transcendent. 00:11:00.22\00:11:03.69 He came down. 00:11:03.73\00:11:05.73 He is above normal, but He came down to us. 00:11:05.76\00:11:09.60 And we find this word "Elohim," which speaks of His supremacy 00:11:09.63\00:11:14.30 as God. 00:11:14.34\00:11:16.07 The name Elohim denounced preeminence and strength. 00:11:16.10\00:11:18.44 God was, He is, and He will be. 00:11:18.47\00:11:24.95 So, where did He come from? 00:11:24.98\00:11:26.95 We don't know. 00:11:26.98\00:11:28.35 You know, I tried even looking up with Adam and Eve, 00:11:28.38\00:11:31.99 what language did they speak? 00:11:32.02\00:11:33.56 You know, we don't--nobody knows. 00:11:33.59\00:11:34.89 There's no clue in the spirit of prophecy. 00:11:34.92\00:11:37.16 There's no clue in the Bible. 00:11:37.19\00:11:38.79 We don't know what they spoke at all, 00:11:38.83\00:11:41.73 whether it was English, whether it was Hebrew, 00:11:41.76\00:11:44.47 whether it was something totally different. 00:11:44.50\00:11:46.74 But I'll tell you, the way things are going around this 00:11:46.77\00:11:50.27 world right now, it's not going to be far--not very long before 00:11:50.31\00:11:55.08 we'll be able to ask God directly or be able to talk 00:11:55.11\00:11:58.65 with Adam directly ourselves too. 00:11:58.68\00:12:00.82 In this second part of the Sunday lesson, 00:12:00.85\00:12:05.09 the second creation account presents God as close up 00:12:05.12\00:12:08.82 and personal to us, a very eminent God. 00:12:08.86\00:12:12.29 It denotes the closeness. 00:12:12.33\00:12:14.36 It denotes the relationship with God. 00:12:14.40\00:12:16.50 And we find that that was the relationship that Adam and Eve 00:12:16.53\00:12:19.53 had in the Garden with God. 00:12:19.57\00:12:21.80 They walked and talked with God. 00:12:21.84\00:12:24.57 And can you imagine being in that situation to be able to 00:12:24.61\00:12:28.18 just talk openly with God? 00:12:28.21\00:12:31.28 God didn't even have to hide His face as He did 00:12:31.31\00:12:33.48 in Moses's situation. 00:12:33.52\00:12:35.22 Adam was able to just talk face to face with God. 00:12:35.25\00:12:41.12 You know, a lot of the hymns come to my recollection, 00:12:41.16\00:12:45.63 face to face with my Redeemer, to be able to talk and converse 00:12:45.66\00:12:50.50 with God. 00:12:50.53\00:12:53.13 Could we do that today? 00:12:53.17\00:12:55.14 Not a chance. 00:12:55.17\00:12:56.81 Sin cannot stand in the presence of God. 00:12:56.84\00:12:58.94 We would be totally wiped out in that regards. 00:12:58.97\00:13:01.58 In the other verse that I'd like to bring to your attention 00:13:01.61\00:13:05.85 Psalms 139, verse 13, the Bible tells us here, 00:13:05.88\00:13:11.25 "For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in 00:13:11.29\00:13:16.06 my mother's womb. 00:13:16.09\00:13:17.76 I will praise You," why? 00:13:17.79\00:13:20.10 "Because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; 00:13:20.13\00:13:23.77 Marvelous are Your works, that my soul knows very well." 00:13:23.80\00:13:29.47 So, here we have this God, God who is very far, 00:13:29.50\00:13:34.98 but yet transcendent so that He is very near and very close 00:13:35.01\00:13:40.62 to us. 00:13:40.65\00:13:42.05 There's this image of God that appears, 00:13:42.08\00:13:44.85 and we also have one more verse that I'd like to bring 00:13:44.89\00:13:46.55 to your attention. 00:13:46.59\00:13:47.89 It's found in Revelation chapter 14, verse 7. 00:13:47.92\00:13:51.33 It says, "Fear God, give glory to Him, 00:13:51.36\00:13:54.46 for the hour of His judgment has come; 00:13:54.46\00:13:57.87 and worship Him who made heaven and earth, 00:13:57.90\00:14:00.07 and the sea and springs of water." 00:14:00.10\00:14:02.40 I was doing a Bible study this week and talking 00:14:02.44\00:14:05.61 with a gentleman. 00:14:05.64\00:14:07.08 He was not sure about this word "fear." 00:14:07.11\00:14:09.94 To him, fear was as if he dreaded, 00:14:09.98\00:14:12.61 he was scared of, that that's how we should view God. 00:14:12.65\00:14:16.12 But I want to bring you a different perspective of that. 00:14:16.15\00:14:18.75 To fear God is not to be scared of God, 00:14:18.79\00:14:23.43 far from it, totally the opposite. 00:14:23.46\00:14:26.63 To fear God is actually to respect Him, 00:14:26.66\00:14:30.90 to revere Him, to be in awe of Him. 00:14:30.93\00:14:33.90 All those words also are synonymous with the word 00:14:33.94\00:14:37.57 "fear God." 00:14:37.61\00:14:39.94 We think about the vast power of God because He holds the world 00:14:39.97\00:14:45.05 in His hand, and that's for each and every one of us today. 00:14:45.08\00:14:49.55 As we look into Monday's lesson, Monday's lesson the creation, 00:14:49.58\00:14:56.09 what do we find out about creation? 00:14:56.12\00:14:58.56 Well, creation is--this is an interesting point because we 00:14:58.59\00:15:04.37 find that God made, day one, He made. 00:15:04.40\00:15:08.10 And then it says, "And it was good." 00:15:08.14\00:15:11.94 It was good. 00:15:11.97\00:15:14.01 Did you ever have a meal sometimes where you sit down, 00:15:14.04\00:15:17.11 your wife made it and you sit down? 00:15:17.15\00:15:19.68 And you're done with it, and you're like, 00:15:19.71\00:15:22.18 "That was good"? 00:15:22.22\00:15:23.92 Wasn't it? 00:15:23.95\00:15:26.09 Now, you don't want to eat too much of it because you know 00:15:26.12\00:15:27.89 overeating is a sin, so you just don't want to have-- 00:15:27.92\00:15:30.79 it was very good. 00:15:30.83\00:15:32.73 That would be Thanksgiving time period. 00:15:32.76\00:15:36.23 But it was good. 00:15:36.26\00:15:37.70 God said it was good. 00:15:37.73\00:15:39.03 He didn't have those terms today. 00:15:39.07\00:15:40.84 Like if He had terms today, He would probably say, 00:15:40.87\00:15:42.90 "Wow, dude, that was awesome," right? 00:15:42.94\00:15:47.88 But that's not how God talks in that sense. 00:15:47.91\00:15:50.78 It was good. 00:15:50.81\00:15:52.11 It was just perfect in that sense. 00:15:52.15\00:15:56.89 This adjective that God's the work of creation was successful 00:15:56.92\00:16:02.49 and that God's observation, it was good. 00:16:02.52\00:16:05.09 The Hebrew word "tov" is also the same meaning as this. 00:16:05.13\00:16:10.50 The phrase, "it was good" in God's eyes means it was perfect. 00:16:10.53\00:16:19.07 It was perfect. 00:16:19.11\00:16:20.98 I mean, I don't know about you, but if you could only 00:16:21.01\00:16:24.81 see creation in review, I don't ever imagine God said, 00:16:24.85\00:16:31.29 "Well, not that way." 00:16:31.32\00:16:34.49 You ever move furniture for people? 00:16:34.52\00:16:36.86 "Oh, could you just move it a little further? 00:16:36.89\00:16:39.83 No, no, no, bring it back." 00:16:39.86\00:16:41.63 No, no, God's not like that. 00:16:41.66\00:16:43.40 He just spoke and there it was. 00:16:43.43\00:16:46.90 I mean, you think of the trees. 00:16:46.94\00:16:50.31 You think of the leaves. 00:16:50.34\00:16:51.87 You think about the infrastructure of the trees 00:16:51.91\00:16:54.28 and how it brings moisture up and how you get photosynthesis 00:16:54.31\00:16:57.91 through the leaves. 00:16:57.95\00:16:59.35 And you wonder, how did He do that? 00:16:59.38\00:17:04.29 I mean, how did He speak? 00:17:04.32\00:17:06.96 He didn't just sit there at the drafting table and figure out, 00:17:06.99\00:17:10.83 "Okay, let's do this with photosynthesis. 00:17:10.86\00:17:13.19 And then you have all these chemical reactions." 00:17:13.23\00:17:15.36 No, it was He just spoke and it was. 00:17:15.40\00:17:19.33 Isn't that cool? 00:17:19.37\00:17:23.14 The description of creation radically contradicts 00:17:23.17\00:17:26.78 the theory of evolution. 00:17:26.81\00:17:30.58 I remember several years ago I was in South Dakota, 00:17:30.61\00:17:32.85 and I came upon these archaeologists that were 00:17:32.88\00:17:36.89 digging up some dinosaur bones. 00:17:36.92\00:17:39.62 And, or maybe they weren't archaeologists, 00:17:39.65\00:17:43.49 but they were digging up stuff. 00:17:43.53\00:17:45.23 And I asked all for them. 00:17:45.26\00:17:46.73 I said, "Are you Christians?" 00:17:46.76\00:17:49.50 "Yeah, yeah, we're all Christians." 00:17:49.53\00:17:51.27 I said, "Really? 00:17:51.30\00:17:52.67 So, how old do you think some of these bones are?" 00:17:52.70\00:17:55.17 One said, "Maybe 50 million years." 00:17:55.20\00:17:59.21 The other said, "Oh, maybe 150 million years." 00:17:59.24\00:18:03.08 And I'm thinking really, and you're a Christian? 00:18:03.11\00:18:07.05 Well, obviously, there are different concepts of Christian 00:18:07.08\00:18:10.35 just like there are different concepts of the age 00:18:10.39\00:18:12.92 of the world. 00:18:12.95\00:18:14.29 But when we look at this, many scholars have taken 00:18:14.32\00:18:16.93 the impression that the world is in what we refer to 00:18:16.96\00:18:20.90 as long time periods. 00:18:20.93\00:18:22.96 We call this day age theory, that the day could have been 00:18:23.00\00:18:27.80 a thousand years. 00:18:27.84\00:18:29.74 I struggle with that because if God just spoke and it is, 00:18:29.77\00:18:34.21 why did He have to take a thousand years to be able 00:18:34.24\00:18:37.25 to do just that? 00:18:37.28\00:18:39.45 He could have easily spoke and it was written. 00:18:39.48\00:18:42.22 I want to read you something from the Seventh-day Adventist 00:18:42.25\00:18:45.25 Bible Commentary. 00:18:45.29\00:18:46.92 And it says here, "Many scholars have taken this expression 00:18:46.96\00:18:49.29 to mean long or indefinite period of time believing that 00:18:49.32\00:18:52.66 some of the divine activities of the following days, 00:18:52.69\00:18:56.03 as for instance, the creation of plants and animals could not 00:18:56.06\00:18:59.40 have been accomplished within literal, 00:18:59.43\00:19:02.44 a literal day." 00:19:02.47\00:19:04.41 They think that they find a justification in this for the 00:19:04.44\00:19:07.34 interpretation of 2 Peter chapter 3, verse 8, 00:19:07.38\00:19:11.98 which says, "One day is with the Lord as a thousand years." 00:19:12.01\00:19:16.32 You've heard that before? 00:19:16.35\00:19:18.99 But what they forget is the other part of that text. 00:19:19.02\00:19:21.32 You see, it says here that the text cannot be used to ascertain 00:19:21.36\00:19:24.26 the length of creation is obvious when one reads the rest 00:19:24.29\00:19:27.73 of the verse which says, "And a thousand years as one day." 00:19:27.76\00:19:35.00 See, these are the guys that say, 00:19:35.04\00:19:37.24 "Oh, you know, it's done away with. 00:19:37.27\00:19:38.87 You know, the Sabbath day, it was done away with. 00:19:38.91\00:19:41.61 It was nailed to the cross." 00:19:41.64\00:19:43.24 You can't pick and choose. 00:19:43.28\00:19:44.58 You can't slice and dice. 00:19:44.61\00:19:46.05 It is God's Word, and it's the whole, 00:19:46.08\00:19:49.18 not just parts thereof. 00:19:49.22\00:19:52.12 So, we find that the context in Peter's words makes it clear 00:19:52.15\00:19:55.62 that he wishes to stress the timelessness of God the Creator 00:19:55.66\00:19:59.83 can do in a day, the work of a thousand years. 00:19:59.86\00:20:03.87 And in a period of a thousand years, 00:20:03.90\00:20:05.90 a long time for those waiting for God's judgment to be 00:20:05.93\00:20:09.44 fulfilled, may be considered by Him as only one day. 00:20:09.47\00:20:15.11 In Genesis chapter 1, verse 31, the last verse of chapter 1, 00:20:15.14\00:20:19.75 it says, "Then God saw everything He had made, 00:20:19.78\00:20:23.65 and indeed it was very good." 00:20:23.69\00:20:27.96 Now, we get that extra word in there. 00:20:27.99\00:20:30.03 It wasn't just good. 00:20:30.06\00:20:31.53 No, day one, two, three, four, five, 00:20:31.56\00:20:33.76 it was good. 00:20:33.80\00:20:38.27 But day six, it was very good. 00:20:38.30\00:20:44.31 When I read and I study this, "very good," the creation of man 00:20:44.34\00:20:48.81 and his installation as ruler of the earth brought the creation 00:20:48.84\00:20:53.55 of all earthly things to a close. 00:20:53.58\00:20:57.39 According to the record, God had frequently reviewed His work and 00:20:57.42\00:21:01.79 pronounced it good. 00:21:01.82\00:21:04.23 The survey undertaken at the end of the six day embraced 00:21:04.26\00:21:09.16 all works completed during the previous days, 00:21:09.20\00:21:11.80 and behold, it was very good. 00:21:11.83\00:21:14.37 Everything was perfect in its kind. 00:21:14.40\00:21:20.24 Every creature met the goal appointed by the Creator and was 00:21:20.28\00:21:23.61 equipped to accomplish the purpose for which it 00:21:23.65\00:21:26.58 was created. 00:21:26.61\00:21:27.95 So, the application of the term "good" to everything God had 00:21:27.98\00:21:33.09 made and the repetition of the word with the emphasis "very" 00:21:33.12\00:21:37.19 at the close of it, with man as its crown and glory indicate 00:21:37.23\00:21:41.63 that nothing imperfect had come forth from God's hand. 00:21:41.66\00:21:47.74 That's why it was very good. 00:21:47.77\00:21:51.87 On the other hand, though, let me just say because some 00:21:51.91\00:21:55.44 would say, "Well, if everything was very good, 00:21:55.48\00:21:57.81 then how did sin come out of that, 00:21:57.85\00:22:00.88 that it was very good and it was perfect?" 00:22:00.92\00:22:04.09 Listen to what the commentary says. 00:22:04.12\00:22:05.85 It says, "This expression of admiration entirely excludes 00:22:05.89\00:22:09.69 the possibility that any imperfection in creation was 00:22:09.72\00:22:12.96 responsible for the weakness demonstrated by Adam and Eve 00:22:12.99\00:22:17.90 during their hour of temptation." 00:22:17.93\00:22:21.74 So, that brings to a close Monday. 00:22:21.77\00:22:24.57 We get to Tuesday's lesson, Tuesday's lesson is 00:22:24.61\00:22:27.04 on the Sabbath. 00:22:27.08\00:22:28.61 Now, you're very familiar with this, 00:22:28.64\00:22:30.25 so I want you to say it with me if you know it by heart. 00:22:30.28\00:22:33.72 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy," 00:22:33.75\00:22:37.15 that's if you know it, right? 00:22:37.19\00:22:39.42 "Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 00:22:39.45\00:22:42.49 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. 00:22:42.52\00:22:45.96 In it, you shall do no work. 00:22:45.99\00:22:48.56 You, nor your sons, nor your daughters, 00:22:48.60\00:22:51.10 nor your manservant, nor your male servant, 00:22:51.13\00:22:53.64 nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within 00:22:53.67\00:22:56.64 your gate. 00:22:56.67\00:22:57.97 For in seven days--no, six days, God created the heavens and 00:22:58.01\00:23:03.38 the earth, the sea, and all that is in them. 00:23:03.41\00:23:06.08 And He rested on the," first day of the week, right? 00:23:06.11\00:23:11.52 No. 00:23:11.55\00:23:13.25 "He rested on the seventh day of the week. 00:23:13.29\00:23:15.56 Therefore, God blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it." 00:23:15.59\00:23:20.23 You know, when I talk to people about the Sabbath day, 00:23:20.26\00:23:24.00 I'll say to them, "Do you remember when you were 00:23:24.03\00:23:26.80 growing up as a kid? 00:23:26.84\00:23:28.67 Did you ever have your parents say to you, 00:23:28.70\00:23:30.44 'Now, clean your room. 00:23:30.47\00:23:32.17 Remember, when you come back from school, 00:23:32.21\00:23:33.64 remember, clean your room.'" 00:23:33.68\00:23:36.34 How many of you remember saying that? 00:23:36.38\00:23:38.88 Hearing that? 00:23:38.91\00:23:40.22 How many of you said that to your own kids? 00:23:40.25\00:23:42.52 I did it. 00:23:42.55\00:23:43.85 I had it said to me many times 'cause my room was not 00:23:43.89\00:23:46.12 the cleanest room in the house. 00:23:46.15\00:23:48.92 And so, that word "remember" applies to us specifically today 00:23:48.96\00:23:53.90 because this is a time period where God knew we would forget 00:23:53.93\00:23:58.63 about the Sabbath day. 00:23:58.67\00:24:01.24 So, the Sabbath here is a very special day. 00:24:01.27\00:24:04.74 What I find very interesting is--and I have a good chuckle 00:24:04.77\00:24:08.14 when people say, "But the Sabbath is a Jewish institution. 00:24:08.18\00:24:11.38 It was created for the Jews." 00:24:11.41\00:24:13.55 Really? 00:24:13.58\00:24:15.45 How is that possible when Adam and Eve were the first two 00:24:15.48\00:24:19.12 on the earth? 00:24:19.15\00:24:20.59 We don't even know if they were Hebrew, 00:24:20.62\00:24:22.86 and yet the Sabbath was instituted there. 00:24:22.89\00:24:25.93 It wasn't given for the Jews, it was given as a memorial 00:24:25.96\00:24:29.70 of creation's week. 00:24:29.73\00:24:32.63 To keep the Sabbath is to join with God in the recognition 00:24:32.67\00:24:37.34 of the value and the beauty of His creation. 00:24:37.37\00:24:41.58 This is why we rest. 00:24:41.61\00:24:44.28 This is why we cease from our labors. 00:24:44.31\00:24:46.88 We can rest from our work--works, 00:24:46.92\00:24:50.29 just as God had rested from His work. 00:24:50.32\00:24:53.46 And you've heard it say some people said, 00:24:53.49\00:24:54.79 "But, um, you know, I worship God on Friday, on Thursday. 00:24:54.82\00:24:59.36 I worship God every day of the week." 00:24:59.39\00:25:02.46 Yes, that's fine, so do I. 00:25:02.50\00:25:04.97 But there's a difference between stopping your labor--you don't 00:25:05.00\00:25:09.40 stop your labor on Monday, nor Tuesday, 00:25:09.44\00:25:13.24 nor Wednesday, nor Thursday or Friday. 00:25:13.27\00:25:17.81 Sabbath is the day that you cease from your labor as 00:25:17.85\00:25:20.32 a memorial for God's creation. 00:25:20.35\00:25:23.28 That is why the word "remember" comes up. 00:25:23.32\00:25:27.16 But yet this pagan concept keeps coming up over 00:25:27.19\00:25:31.46 and over and over. 00:25:31.49\00:25:33.53 The Sabbath is a sign at the end of our human week, 00:25:33.56\00:25:38.20 that the suffering and trials of this world will have ended also 00:25:38.23\00:25:43.74 as well. 00:25:43.77\00:25:45.94 This is why, the lesson says, Jesus chose the Sabbath 00:25:45.97\00:25:49.78 as the most appropriate day to heal the sick. 00:25:49.81\00:25:54.28 I find this was interesting as I studied this some more because 00:25:54.32\00:25:57.22 by the Sabbath healing, Jesus pointed people and us to 00:25:57.25\00:26:02.82 a time period when there will be no more pain, 00:26:02.86\00:26:05.16 no more suffering, no more death, 00:26:05.19\00:26:07.66 because it will all be over because this is the ultimate 00:26:07.73\00:26:12.80 conclusion to the Salvation process. 00:26:12.83\00:26:16.37 Hence, each Sabbath points us to the hope of redemption. 00:26:16.40\00:26:22.41 We find that by resting on the Sabbath, 00:26:22.44\00:26:24.95 how are we experiencing the rest and the salvation that we have 00:26:24.98\00:26:29.22 in Jesus now? 00:26:29.25\00:26:31.95 That brings us to Wednesday, the creation of humanity. 00:26:31.99\00:26:38.49 In Genesis 1:26 to 29, the Bible says, 00:26:38.53\00:26:44.33 "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image.'" 00:26:44.37\00:26:48.64 Probably one of the most profound sentences 00:26:48.67\00:26:52.04 you can find in the Bible, "God made us in His image." 00:26:52.07\00:26:59.28 In His image, in His Son's image, 00:26:59.31\00:27:01.85 we were made according to our likeness, 00:27:01.88\00:27:04.62 is what God said. 00:27:04.65\00:27:06.42 "Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, 00:27:06.45\00:27:08.52 over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, 00:27:08.56\00:27:10.93 over all the earth and over every creeping thing that 00:27:10.96\00:27:13.90 creeps on the earth. 00:27:13.93\00:27:15.20 So God created man in His own image; 00:27:15.23\00:27:18.97 in the image of God He created him." 00:27:19.00\00:27:21.17 Notice it says it right there at the beginning, 00:27:21.20\00:27:23.64 and then it reiterates it again. 00:27:23.67\00:27:25.77 "He created him; male and female He created them." 00:27:25.81\00:27:31.28 I could bring up a lot of stuff right now in regards to today's 00:27:31.31\00:27:35.92 society in relationship to this. 00:27:35.95\00:27:39.99 But that's a whole other lesson, a whole other sermon. 00:27:40.02\00:27:44.56 But know this, there were only two types that God created, 00:27:44.59\00:27:49.70 amen, male and female. 00:27:49.73\00:27:52.93 And how were they created? 00:27:52.97\00:27:55.14 They were created in a template of God under--just like 00:27:55.17\00:28:01.18 His image. 00:28:01.21\00:28:02.91 John writes about Jesus. 00:28:02.94\00:28:05.11 Jesus answered and says, "If you've seen Me, 00:28:05.15\00:28:07.15 you've seen my Father." 00:28:07.18\00:28:09.52 So, the more we become more Christ-like, 00:28:09.55\00:28:13.25 the more people will see in us our Father. 00:28:13.29\00:28:21.56 Verse 29--or, sorry, verse 28. 00:28:21.60\00:28:25.83 "Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 00:28:25.87\00:28:28.07 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; 00:28:28.10\00:28:31.31 have dominion over the fish of the sea, 00:28:31.34\00:28:33.41 over the birds of the air, and over every living thing 00:28:33.44\00:28:35.94 that moves on the earth.' 00:28:35.98\00:28:37.28 And God said, 00:28:37.31\00:28:38.61 'See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is 00:28:38.65\00:28:41.22 on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit 00:28:41.25\00:28:43.69 yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 00:28:43.72\00:28:48.32 Also, to every beast of the earth, 00:28:48.36\00:28:51.69 to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the 00:28:51.73\00:28:54.96 earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb 00:28:55.00\00:28:59.03 for food; and it was so. 00:28:59.07\00:29:01.77 And when God saw everything that He had made, 00:29:01.80\00:29:03.84 indeed it was very good. 00:29:03.87\00:29:05.64 So the evening and the morning were the sixth day." 00:29:05.67\00:29:10.48 In the video review when we get to heaven, 00:29:10.51\00:29:14.22 I would love to be able to see God bending down and just 00:29:14.25\00:29:18.35 digging down into the dirt and forming man. 00:29:18.39\00:29:22.19 I mean, I don't know how we--He would have structured the veins, 00:29:22.22\00:29:26.26 the capillaries, and all that stuff just out of dirt. 00:29:26.29\00:29:29.56 That would be fascinating to watch. 00:29:29.60\00:29:31.80 And, you know, I came across this. 00:29:31.83\00:29:33.30 It said, "A group of scientists were fed up with the 00:29:33.34\00:29:35.47 literal interpretation of Genesis in the creation story, 00:29:35.50\00:29:39.74 so the scientists sent an emissary to talk with God 00:29:39.77\00:29:42.61 about the whole thing. 00:29:42.64\00:29:44.28 And they planned to entrap God. 00:29:44.31\00:29:48.25 And they figured, 'We'll make this into 00:29:48.28\00:29:50.89 a human-making contest.' 00:29:50.92\00:29:53.42 So, the scientists think that they have figured it 00:29:53.46\00:29:56.06 all out and that they can create humans faster 00:29:56.09\00:30:00.00 and better than God." 00:30:00.03\00:30:02.53 So, they came together. 00:30:02.56\00:30:04.20 God said to the scientists, 00:30:04.23\00:30:05.60 "Okay, you guys go first." 00:30:05.63\00:30:08.30 So, the scientists gathered together. 00:30:08.34\00:30:10.84 And one of them bends over, and he scoops up some dirt. 00:30:10.87\00:30:13.88 And God says, "No, you go get your own dirt." 00:30:13.91\00:30:23.12 We like to make ourselves and form ourselves into 00:30:23.15\00:30:27.86 other things, but we were made in the image of God. 00:30:27.89\00:30:34.20 And that is the same image that God is trying to bring us 00:30:34.20\00:30:37.87 to in these last days, into his image. 00:30:37.90\00:30:43.94 But the problem for us in these last days is that we have been 00:30:43.97\00:30:53.11 so demented by this world. 00:30:53.15\00:30:57.49 According to what we find, the tree of life was given to us. 00:30:57.52\00:31:04.49 There was a stipulation there, "You should not eat of it. 00:31:04.53\00:31:10.27 You can't touch it." 00:31:10.30\00:31:14.14 What was the purpose of that? 00:31:14.17\00:31:16.14 Did God purposely put that there just to ensnare us? 00:31:16.17\00:31:20.04 No, it was there for the healing of the nations. 00:31:20.08\00:31:25.11 We couldn't eat that. 00:31:25.15\00:31:28.28 That was the one thing that God had set up. 00:31:28.32\00:31:32.65 We find here in a review in Herald article, 00:31:32.69\00:31:36.16 it says here that Christ is the source of light, 00:31:36.19\00:31:39.16 the fountain of life. 00:31:39.19\00:31:41.56 He brings us to His Word and from the tree of life presents 00:31:41.60\00:31:44.77 to us the leaves for the healing of the nation. 00:31:44.80\00:31:48.84 It is His purpose that human beings, 00:31:48.87\00:31:51.27 purified and sanctified, shall be His helping hand. 00:31:51.31\00:31:54.81 He leads us to the throne of God and gives us a prayer 00:31:54.84\00:31:59.78 to offer Him. 00:31:59.81\00:32:01.95 When we live this prayer, we are brought into close contact 00:32:01.98\00:32:06.65 with Christ. 00:32:06.69\00:32:08.39 At every step, we touch His living power. 00:32:08.42\00:32:11.99 In our behalf, He sets in operation the all-powerful 00:32:12.03\00:32:16.03 agencies of heaven. 00:32:16.06\00:32:20.24 In this lesson on Thursday, The Duty of Humanity, 00:32:20.27\00:32:27.01 we find here that the duty of man, 00:32:27.04\00:32:30.98 the first is for the natural environment. 00:32:31.01\00:32:36.28 We are to tend it and to keep it. 00:32:36.32\00:32:39.42 That means we got to be careful with the garbage. 00:32:39.45\00:32:46.53 Now, I'm not saying everybody has to go green, 00:32:46.56\00:32:48.76 make sure you recycle everything. 00:32:48.80\00:32:51.90 But we should do our part. 00:32:51.93\00:32:54.40 I remember a number of years ago when I was in Haiti, 00:32:54.44\00:32:56.64 I was helping out with the earthquake efforts that 00:32:56.67\00:32:59.07 happened over there. 00:32:59.11\00:33:00.64 We came to a canal area, and you couldn't see the water. 00:33:00.68\00:33:05.15 It was probably 2, 3 feet deep with trash, 00:33:05.18\00:33:09.15 garbage, plastic, all sorts of junk was thrown in there. 00:33:09.18\00:33:13.79 And I'm asking them, well, why is that there? 00:33:13.82\00:33:17.23 They said, "Oh, don't worry. 00:33:17.26\00:33:18.66 When it rains, it cleans it out." 00:33:18.69\00:33:21.20 Well, how does it clean it out? 00:33:21.23\00:33:23.00 Because it just wipes it and pushes it right into the ocean. 00:33:23.03\00:33:26.97 I'm thinking, you know, that's for us to take care of. 00:33:27.00\00:33:33.04 The second duty that was given to man was concerning food. 00:33:33.07\00:33:37.45 God didn't create the trees or the food for them. 00:33:37.48\00:33:43.05 Sorry, humans didn't create that, 00:33:43.08\00:33:44.85 God created that for us. 00:33:44.89\00:33:46.62 And that was a gift of grace. 00:33:46.65\00:33:49.69 It was God's gracious gift that He said every tree had fruit. 00:33:49.72\00:33:55.30 Now, I don't know about some of you, 00:33:55.33\00:33:57.40 but if you've ever tried the king of fruit before, 00:33:57.43\00:34:01.50 do you know what the king of fruit is? 00:34:01.54\00:34:03.94 It's durian. 00:34:03.97\00:34:05.94 It doesn't grow over here. 00:34:05.97\00:34:07.84 It's probably the most dangerous fruit in the world too because 00:34:07.88\00:34:10.48 you literally almost have to wear gloves to touch it. 00:34:10.51\00:34:13.85 How many of you have ever smelled durian before? 00:34:13.88\00:34:17.12 There's a few of you. 00:34:17.15\00:34:18.72 The rest of you, I'll just warn you, 00:34:18.75\00:34:21.42 you probably don't. 00:34:21.46\00:34:23.22 Just give it to me instead, okay? 00:34:23.26\00:34:26.06 It is a wonderful fruit. 00:34:26.09\00:34:28.23 The third duty that God gave to man concerns a woman. 00:34:28.26\00:34:34.17 He took out of Him his rib, the bonds of marriage. 00:34:34.20\00:34:39.21 That first day, Friday, can you imagine that time period? 00:34:39.24\00:34:41.88 That must have been so amazing for Adam to be able to 00:34:41.91\00:34:45.61 look around, and you can imagine his loneliness. 00:34:45.65\00:34:49.48 He sees all these animals in pairs. 00:34:49.52\00:34:53.69 He sees the giraffes. 00:34:53.72\00:34:56.12 We don't even know for sure what animals, 00:34:56.16\00:34:59.29 but we do know this for sure, only the animals that God made 00:34:59.33\00:35:03.13 were in the ark, right? 00:35:03.16\00:35:05.77 You ever been to the Ark Encounter over there? 00:35:05.80\00:35:09.84 If you've ever been in there, they've got some interesting-- 00:35:09.87\00:35:12.57 I mean, it's very cool. 00:35:12.61\00:35:14.04 But when you walk into that ark and you see some of those 00:35:14.08\00:35:16.24 animals, it's like, I don't think so. 00:35:16.28\00:35:20.02 That's not the animal that God created. 00:35:20.05\00:35:23.69 Only the animals God created were there. 00:35:23.72\00:35:25.32 And Adam's looking around. 00:35:25.35\00:35:26.65 He's thinking, "Wow, this is wonderful. 00:35:26.69\00:35:28.12 There's two of them, there's two of them, 00:35:28.16\00:35:29.46 there's two of them. 00:35:29.49\00:35:30.79 But God, why is there only one of me?" 00:35:30.83\00:35:34.46 I wonder if that was an afterthought. 00:35:34.50\00:35:38.27 Did God really plan to have just one, 00:35:38.30\00:35:41.24 or was he just building up to the suspense to be able to say, 00:35:41.27\00:35:44.14 ¤ "Dant dant da da, ¤ 00:35:44.17\00:35:45.61 there it is. 00:35:45.64\00:35:46.94 For you, just for you, made from you." 00:35:46.98\00:35:51.41 That would have been really amazing. 00:35:51.45\00:35:56.42 So, we find the bond of marriage was a gift of God. 00:35:56.45\00:36:03.69 And the pinnacle of that gift was the intimacy that they have. 00:36:03.73\00:36:08.93 You see, when you look at that, it's kind of like--I wish I had 00:36:08.96\00:36:13.27 brought something with me in this regards. 00:36:13.30\00:36:15.00 But it's like a pyramid. 00:36:15.04\00:36:17.01 You build this foundational relationship and then as you're 00:36:17.04\00:36:20.78 dating, you're going through your engagement, 00:36:20.81\00:36:24.88 you're building up to the very top of that pyramid, 00:36:24.91\00:36:28.68 which is the ultimate intimacy. 00:36:28.72\00:36:31.62 But you see what happens is, in that triangle part, 00:36:31.65\00:36:34.79 the world flips it upside down. 00:36:34.82\00:36:37.16 Everything is about this one-night-stand relationship. 00:36:37.19\00:36:41.33 And so, you invert it upside down and all of a sudden, 00:36:41.36\00:36:43.73 what's supposed to be up on top is all the way on the bottom, 00:36:43.77\00:36:48.17 which is why marriages don't last. 00:36:48.20\00:36:50.21 There's no foundation to stand on. 00:36:50.24\00:36:52.21 And what I do for when I'm dealing with young people is 00:36:52.24\00:36:54.78 I have this glass pyramid. 00:36:54.81\00:36:56.11 And I'll say, "Okay, I want you to make it stand on its tip." 00:36:56.14\00:36:59.95 And you'll see them up there trying. 00:37:00.05\00:37:02.45 It's like, there's no hope of it. 00:37:02.48\00:37:04.32 Then you explain to them God's plan was it to be this way, 00:37:04.35\00:37:10.39 never this way... 00:37:10.43\00:37:14.30 God's ways are always the right ways, are they not? 00:37:16.67\00:37:22.20 So, the bond of marriage entails human responsibility, 00:37:22.24\00:37:25.84 once the gift had been received, the responsibility that rests 00:37:25.87\00:37:29.08 with both man and woman to be fulfilled in faithfulness. 00:37:29.11\00:37:34.55 You also find that it says a man shall leave his 00:37:34.58\00:37:38.45 mother and father. 00:37:38.49\00:37:41.76 This is why it's important for young people not to go 00:37:41.79\00:37:46.33 from the home right into marriage. 00:37:46.36\00:37:48.90 They got to live for a little while on their own. 00:37:48.93\00:37:51.63 I know all of you that are here, mostly--most of you are adults. 00:37:51.67\00:37:56.44 The young people are in their classes, 00:37:56.47\00:37:59.44 which are your children. 00:37:59.47\00:38:01.28 So, encourage them that they when they go out there, 00:38:01.31\00:38:03.58 live on your own so that, you know, 00:38:03.61\00:38:05.58 mom's not doing all the cooking for you. 00:38:05.61\00:38:08.45 Mom's not doing all the laundry. 00:38:08.48\00:38:10.19 You got to figure out those things. 00:38:10.22\00:38:11.95 You got to figure out why your whites are turning like colored 00:38:11.99\00:38:15.49 because you're not supposed to throw everything in the wash 00:38:15.52\00:38:18.03 on hot, same colors and all that. 00:38:18.06\00:38:20.56 They need to figure that out. 00:38:20.60\00:38:22.06 This is why they need to be on their own for a while. 00:38:22.10\00:38:26.30 We get to the last lesson, April 1. 00:38:26.33\00:38:32.87 There's really nothing, no topic that's mentioned for that, 00:38:32.91\00:38:36.38 but it just says this. 00:38:36.41\00:38:39.08 It says about Mrs. White writing and it says, 00:38:39.11\00:38:43.89 "Since the book of nature and the book of Revelation bear the 00:38:43.92\00:38:46.79 impress of the same mastermind, they cannot but speak 00:38:46.82\00:38:50.76 in harmony. 00:38:50.79\00:38:53.03 Science is ever discovering new wonders because she brings 00:38:53.06\00:38:56.80 from her research nothing that rightly understood conflicts 00:38:56.83\00:39:02.04 with divine revelation." 00:39:02.07\00:39:05.17 I remember when I was in the seminary, 00:39:05.21\00:39:07.71 one of the things that I really enjoyed studying was about 00:39:07.74\00:39:13.88 archeology, about creation. 00:39:13.92\00:39:19.12 And you find the different things that pop up in 00:39:19.15\00:39:22.42 the geologic column. 00:39:22.46\00:39:24.43 How many of you know what the geologic column is? 00:39:24.46\00:39:26.59 Anybody out there? 00:39:26.63\00:39:28.43 Yeah, some of you've studied this. 00:39:28.46\00:39:30.17 The geologic column is kind of interesting because, 00:39:30.20\00:39:32.43 you see, at the very bottom--hang with me because it 00:39:32.47\00:39:35.20 may be boring for some of you, but there's a reason for that. 00:39:35.24\00:39:38.34 At the very, very bottom of time, 00:39:38.37\00:39:40.91 you have what is referred to as the Precambrian level. 00:39:40.94\00:39:44.55 Then you get to the Cambrian, then from the Cambrian, 00:39:44.58\00:39:47.68 you get to the Paleozoic. 00:39:47.72\00:39:49.85 And then from the Paleozoic, you get to the Cenozoic. 00:39:49.88\00:39:52.22 And then from Cenozoic, you get to the Mesozoic. 00:39:52.25\00:39:54.36 So, what do you have at the very bottom? 00:39:54.39\00:39:56.39 You have these little trilobites, 00:39:56.42\00:39:57.76 these little, tiny organisms. 00:39:57.79\00:39:59.46 And then when you get into the Paleozoic time period, 00:39:59.49\00:40:03.93 you get these crustaceans, shellfish and different 00:40:03.97\00:40:07.60 things like that. 00:40:07.64\00:40:08.94 And into the Mesozoic, you get the next level and then you 00:40:08.97\00:40:14.18 get to the Cenozoic. 00:40:14.21\00:40:15.98 And then all of a sudden, you are at the 00:40:16.01\00:40:18.61 bigger mammals, mammals. 00:40:18.65\00:40:20.42 And then on top of all that, then you get to man. 00:40:20.45\00:40:24.19 Do you understand what I'm talking about? 00:40:24.22\00:40:26.69 It sounds good. 00:40:26.72\00:40:28.16 But you see, this is--this whole geologic column is messed up. 00:40:28.19\00:40:34.00 It is really, really messed up because, 00:40:34.03\00:40:36.77 here's the reason it's messed up. 00:40:36.80\00:40:38.33 You have all these different levels and at the very top of 00:40:38.37\00:40:41.47 the level above the Cenozoic, you have man, 00:40:41.50\00:40:47.21 and then man dies. 00:40:47.24\00:40:50.81 Are you getting it? 00:40:50.85\00:40:54.52 Man cannot be at the top. 00:40:54.55\00:40:57.59 You cannot have death and dying before the fall of man. 00:40:57.62\00:41:03.49 Are you with me? 00:41:03.53\00:41:05.53 If man is at the top, how did death and dying occur all 00:41:05.56\00:41:07.96 the way very down for millions and millions of so-called years? 00:41:08.00\00:41:11.73 Not possible. 00:41:11.77\00:41:14.40 Because God did not orchestrate it that way. 00:41:14.44\00:41:19.67 Things get messed up. 00:41:19.71\00:41:21.64 Everything got rumbled up when you had the flood. 00:41:21.68\00:41:24.95 All the different levels did not come out the way it is, 00:41:24.98\00:41:28.68 and this is why Satan's been having a wonderful time messing 00:41:28.72\00:41:31.55 with people's minds because this is not how it was. 00:41:31.59\00:41:39.43 This was never God's plan for all this. 00:41:39.46\00:41:43.70 We read the article that is in Friday's lesson and it says, 00:41:43.73\00:41:49.24 "Interferences erroneously draw from facts observed in nature 00:41:49.27\00:41:55.31 have, however, led to supposed conflict between science 00:41:55.34\00:41:58.81 and revelation. 00:41:58.85\00:42:01.32 And in the effort to restore harmony, 00:42:01.35\00:42:03.45 interpretations of Scriptures have been adopted that undermine 00:42:03.49\00:42:07.22 and destroy the force of the Word of God. 00:42:07.26\00:42:10.26 Geology has been thought to contradict the literal 00:42:10.29\00:42:13.66 interpretation of the mosaic record of the creation. 00:42:13.70\00:42:17.07 Millions of years, it is claimed, 00:42:17.10\00:42:19.93 were required for evolution of the earth from chaos 00:42:19.97\00:42:24.37 and into that, you have order." 00:42:24.41\00:42:27.64 Do you understand the complexities of evolution? 00:42:27.68\00:42:32.15 That would be like taking a very fine Swiss watch, 00:42:32.18\00:42:35.32 taking it all apart, all the different pieces that you have, 00:42:35.35\00:42:38.72 and then you throw it into your washing machine. 00:42:38.75\00:42:42.12 And you set your washing machine on 570 million years, 00:42:42.16\00:42:45.86 and you come back at the end of 570 million years. 00:42:45.89\00:42:48.86 You open the washer, and behold, you get a $50,000 Swiss watch 00:42:48.90\00:42:53.64 perfectly put together. 00:42:53.67\00:42:56.34 That's the chances of evolution working. 00:42:56.37\00:43:00.34 But there's another reason that you have to understand that 00:43:00.38\00:43:02.71 Satan is so involved with this and that evolution--you realize 00:43:02.74\00:43:05.98 that people didn't understand evolution prior to 1844? 00:43:06.01\00:43:12.29 Because it was in 1844 in September that Charles Darwin 00:43:12.32\00:43:16.62 released to longhand of his original writings called 00:43:16.66\00:43:20.46 "The Origin of Species." 00:43:20.50\00:43:22.40 Longhand wasn't--that was just the original form, 00:43:22.43\00:43:24.83 September of 1844. 00:43:24.87\00:43:28.44 How did that happen all of a sudden like that? 00:43:28.47\00:43:32.11 Well, it's pretty easy to understand because Daniel 8:14 00:43:32.14\00:43:35.61 tells us that unto 2300 days, the sanctuary shall be cleansed. 00:43:35.64\00:43:39.45 And the devil knew that his timeframe was almost up. 00:43:39.48\00:43:43.95 He had just till October 22 till Christ moved from the holy to 00:43:43.99\00:43:48.59 the Most Holy Place. 00:43:48.62\00:43:49.92 He had to get something going. 00:43:49.96\00:43:51.49 So, he inspires Charles Darwin, "Write this, 00:43:51.53\00:43:53.96 that you came from a monkey." 00:43:54.00\00:43:57.57 Now, I don't know about you but for me, 00:43:57.60\00:44:00.97 when I go to the zoo, it's not a family reunion. 00:44:01.00\00:44:06.27 For Charles Darwin, perhaps it was. 00:44:06.31\00:44:10.11 But you see, Satan knew his time period was nearly coming to 00:44:10.15\00:44:17.85 an end, and he had to come up with an alter--alternative 00:44:17.89\00:44:22.82 because that alternative had to be able to take people's eyes 00:44:22.86\00:44:27.30 off of the fact that God is the Creator of heaven and earth. 00:44:27.36\00:44:32.90 He is the Creator who created the earth in six literal days. 00:44:32.93\00:44:38.01 He had to take their eyes off the fact that God is not only 00:44:38.04\00:44:40.88 the Creator of heaven and earth in six literal days, 00:44:40.91\00:44:45.55 but He is also their Redeemer. 00:44:45.58\00:44:52.12 Satan had only so much time and in that time period, 00:44:52.15\00:44:56.22 he has to deceive as many people as possible that 00:44:56.26\00:45:00.43 "there is no Creator. 00:45:00.46\00:45:03.80 You came out of a monkey. 00:45:03.83\00:45:06.70 You came out of these forms." 00:45:06.74\00:45:08.74 And this is exactly what the Bible is trying to say to us. 00:45:08.77\00:45:13.68 Mrs. White concludes this in Education page 128. 00:45:13.71\00:45:19.21 It says, "Such a conclusion is wholly uncalled for. 00:45:19.25\00:45:23.82 The Bible record is in harmony with itself and 00:45:23.85\00:45:27.66 with the teaching of nature." 00:45:27.69\00:45:30.63 Throughout the Bible, you will find it says this, 00:45:30.66\00:45:34.00 it says this. 00:45:34.00\00:45:35.30 You will find science saying these other things, 00:45:35.33\00:45:40.80 but I refer you back to Isaiah chapter 8, 00:45:40.84\00:45:44.34 verse 20, to the law and to the testimony. 00:45:44.37\00:45:47.91 If they speak not according to this Word, 00:45:47.94\00:45:50.41 how much light is in them? 00:45:50.45\00:45:52.41 Zero. 00:45:52.45\00:45:53.78 There is no light in them because what we are called for, 00:45:53.82\00:45:56.92 the Genesis account is not just about creation. 00:45:56.95\00:46:01.39 It is also about grace. 00:46:01.42\00:46:04.63 It is about the beginning of the human race. 00:46:04.66\00:46:08.76 It is about God coming up away to redeem man 00:46:08.80\00:46:14.47 from the bowels of sin. 00:46:14.50\00:46:16.81 All throughout this week's lesson, 00:46:16.84\00:46:21.68 we find many things that point us to a loving Creator who is 00:46:21.71\00:46:26.65 trying to bring us back to His original image, 00:46:26.68\00:46:31.45 the image of Christ. 00:46:31.49\00:46:33.82 As you meet with people and as you talk with them, 00:46:33.86\00:46:38.93 bring up these points to them to jar their thinking, 00:46:38.96\00:46:43.13 to make them think for a moment, especially with evolutionists. 00:46:43.16\00:46:47.24 Now, I will just say this, don't argue. 00:46:47.27\00:46:50.24 It's never worth arguing. 00:46:50.27\00:46:52.84 Arguing never wins anything. 00:46:52.87\00:46:55.48 And if you want to know for sure if it's, 00:46:55.51\00:46:57.68 perhaps, a family member, pray about it and ask the Lord to 00:46:57.71\00:47:00.65 make them ask you the questions about God. 00:47:00.68\00:47:04.55 Because in so doing, you know that God has already primed 00:47:04.59\00:47:08.66 their heart, God has softened their heart, 00:47:08.69\00:47:12.03 and God is making them question because they're ready. 00:47:12.06\00:47:15.43 And in asking those questions, he's saying to you, 00:47:15.46\00:47:20.34 "Go easy. 00:47:20.37\00:47:22.00 They're just starting off." 00:47:22.04\00:47:24.31 So, don't hit them with a whole bunch of stuff, 00:47:24.34\00:47:26.64 but bring them slowly by listening to what 00:47:26.68\00:47:30.68 the Holy Spirit prompts you to say on this topic. 00:47:30.71\00:47:35.15 Because all in all today, 2022, the challenges of today is that 00:47:35.18\00:47:41.92 Satan is trying to deface the image of God. 00:47:41.96\00:47:46.53 He's trying to deface creation. 00:47:46.56\00:47:49.56 He's trying to deface the fact that Jesus is coming again. 00:47:49.60\00:47:54.60 Let's pray. 00:47:54.64\00:47:57.01 Our Father in heaven, we thank You for this particular lesson 00:47:57.04\00:48:00.34 You gave us this week. 00:48:00.38\00:48:02.48 We thank You for creating us in Your image. 00:48:02.51\00:48:04.91 We ask that we would act like we were created in Your image. 00:48:04.95\00:48:09.22 Help us to remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 00:48:09.25\00:48:12.25 We thank You. 00:48:12.29\00:48:13.59 In Jesus's name, amen. 00:48:13.62\00:48:16.36 God bless you all. 00:48:16.39\00:48:18.43 male announcer: Don't forget to request today's life-changing 00:48:47.72\00:48:51.73 announcer: Amazing Facts, Changed Lives. 00:48:57.47\00:49:03.87 male: I actually grew up in a loving home, 00:49:05.87\00:49:08.84 had no religious background. 00:49:08.88\00:49:11.58 My parents were completely secular. 00:49:11.61\00:49:14.08 I had questions in my life like most young people do. 00:49:14.12\00:49:16.58 What does my future hold for me? 00:49:16.62\00:49:18.89 And what is my purpose of even being here? 00:49:18.92\00:49:20.26 They were questions that my parents couldn't answer. 00:49:20.29\00:49:22.62 Because of moving around a lot, I found it 00:49:22.66\00:49:25.89 kind of hard to adjust at times. 00:49:25.93\00:49:27.93 By the time I made it into high school, 00:49:27.96\00:49:30.30 my grades were really terrible, and I had a problem 00:49:30.33\00:49:33.20 with authority. 00:49:33.23\00:49:34.57 I started smoking at the age of 14 and drinking by 00:49:34.60\00:49:36.64 the age of 15. 00:49:36.67\00:49:38.51 I really started getting involved with crime, 00:49:38.54\00:49:40.31 break and enter, selling drugs, stealing cars. 00:49:40.34\00:49:45.45 At one point, I had overdosed on ecstasy, 00:49:45.48\00:49:47.58 and I was doing anything I could just to find some 00:49:47.62\00:49:49.15 sort of excitement or something that reflected some version 00:49:49.18\00:49:52.12 of happiness in my life. 00:49:52.15\00:49:55.72 I didn't want to be alone, and I was looking for some 00:49:55.76\00:49:58.53 sort of relationship. 00:49:58.56\00:50:01.40 I had found myself in Australia, and I met a girl down there 00:50:01.43\00:50:03.93 who was a Christian girl. 00:50:03.97\00:50:05.63 And we really started to hit it off. 00:50:05.67\00:50:07.30 We ended up in a long, fairly long, relationship. 00:50:07.34\00:50:10.51 We were together for about seven years. 00:50:10.54\00:50:12.07 Neither one of us were having a relationship with God. 00:50:12.11\00:50:13.51 We kind of excluded Him out of what we were doing, 00:50:13.54\00:50:16.04 and we were just trying to do everything on our own. 00:50:16.08\00:50:20.12 When we came out of that relationship, 00:50:20.15\00:50:22.22 I ended up in a really deep depression. 00:50:22.25\00:50:24.15 I was so depressed that I was coming home. 00:50:24.19\00:50:26.99 And as soon as the door closed behind me, 00:50:27.02\00:50:29.19 I would drop down to my knees and just start crying. 00:50:29.22\00:50:32.49 I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. 00:50:32.53\00:50:34.56 I tried to take my life at one point with pills, 00:50:34.60\00:50:36.50 and it wasn't because I wanted to die. 00:50:36.53\00:50:38.43 I just I didn't want to feel this way anymore. 00:50:38.47\00:50:40.94 It hurt so bad and I'd never felt so lonely. 00:50:40.97\00:50:45.41 I would end up in my bedroom, and I was praying for hours 00:50:45.44\00:50:47.98 each day, and that was kind of my life. 00:50:48.01\00:50:51.31 I was alone and unhappy. 00:50:51.35\00:50:53.15 And I really needed answers. 00:50:53.18\00:50:56.69 I'd started studying the Bible and found Amazing Facts online 00:50:56.72\00:51:02.02 and was watching hours of sermons each day, 00:51:02.06\00:51:04.96 spending more time with Pastor Doug Batchelor and really 00:51:04.99\00:51:08.46 getting a lot of the answers to the questions that I was 00:51:08.50\00:51:11.53 seeking out. 00:51:11.57\00:51:13.87 I felt that there was hope that was coming through that and that 00:51:13.90\00:51:16.17 was kind of pulling me out of, gradually pulling me out of 00:51:16.20\00:51:19.64 the darkness that I was in. 00:51:19.67\00:51:23.11 So eventually, I decided I was going to go to church. 00:51:23.14\00:51:25.25 I would drive to the church, and I would sit in the parking lot 00:51:25.28\00:51:28.62 for about half an hour, and then I would drive home. 00:51:28.65\00:51:32.19 Eventually I found myself inside the church. 00:51:32.22\00:51:35.29 They were all quite amazed that I kind of found my own 00:51:35.32\00:51:38.09 way there. 00:51:38.13\00:51:39.59 I started building relationships with people there, 00:51:39.63\00:51:41.70 and my life really started changing. 00:51:41.73\00:51:43.30 Eventually, I was baptized. 00:51:43.33\00:51:45.40 I still, I couldn't get enough. 00:51:45.43\00:51:47.40 I wanted to read more, I wanted to study more, 00:51:47.44\00:51:48.74 and all these new things that I was learning were, 00:51:48.77\00:51:50.07 it all made sense to me. 00:51:50.11\00:51:52.24 I prayed to God specifically for two things at this point. 00:51:52.27\00:51:56.08 I prayed for a new job, and I prayed for an opportunity 00:51:56.11\00:51:59.18 in my life, some direction. 00:51:59.21\00:52:01.55 And within one week, He had answered the prayer. 00:52:01.58\00:52:04.22 I got a new job, and I was going to be starting right away. 00:52:04.25\00:52:07.99 But He also answered the other prayer. 00:52:08.02\00:52:09.96 Two ladies in my church came up to me and offered to send me 00:52:09.99\00:52:12.49 to go to AFCOE. 00:52:12.53\00:52:14.40 My life has changed so much since I started following 00:52:14.46\00:52:18.37 God's path for me. 00:52:18.40\00:52:20.57 I'm just so much happier in my life, 00:52:20.60\00:52:22.90 and I realize that there's so much more in this world that 00:52:22.94\00:52:25.04 I can do to help others. 00:52:25.07\00:52:26.94 And I look forward to a life of service to God. 00:52:26.98\00:52:29.98 ¤¤¤ 00:52:30.01\00:52:39.55 announcer: Amazing Facts, Change Lives. 00:52:45.63\00:52:48.96 Gary: Early 1980, all the baby boomers were turning 21, 00:52:53.74\00:52:56.87 and the nightclub scenes were exploding, 00:52:56.91\00:52:58.87 and I started a entertainment lighting company. 00:52:58.91\00:53:01.61 female: I was the president, and there were six divisions, 00:53:01.64\00:53:03.88 doing the raves in the '80s and '90s, you know, in some 00:53:03.91\00:53:06.82 warehouse where you're setting up lighting and fog and, 00:53:06.85\00:53:09.28 you know, who knows what's going on in there, 00:53:09.32\00:53:11.89 and nightclub installations. 00:53:11.92\00:53:15.16 I loved it, and it was who I was. 00:53:15.19\00:53:17.36 Gary: Bought a new house out of town, and we moved 00:53:18.26\00:53:20.13 about two or three times, but we were always going 00:53:20.16\00:53:23.10 into different churches. 00:53:23.13\00:53:24.43 We were in a Lutheran Church, and then we were 00:53:24.47\00:53:25.80 in a Methodist Church. 00:53:25.83\00:53:27.24 I think we were in three different Baptist churches. 00:53:27.27\00:53:29.57 My wife was raised Catholic. 00:53:29.60\00:53:31.17 I was raised Methodist. 00:53:31.21\00:53:32.61 Currently, I've been up, reading all the Hal Lindsey books 00:53:32.64\00:53:34.81 and watching all the, "Left Behind" movies, 00:53:34.84\00:53:37.18 and so I really wanted to understand 00:53:37.21\00:53:38.68 what the book of Revelation was all about, 00:53:38.71\00:53:40.45 but nothing really ever made sense to me. 00:53:40.48\00:53:42.58 female: One day, Pastor Lloyd Logan came knocking, 00:53:42.62\00:53:45.39 and he had that Net '99 flyer. 00:53:45.42\00:53:47.92 Lloyd Logan: We were preparing for an evangelistic series, 00:53:48.76\00:53:52.33 and different people were going different directions 00:53:52.36\00:53:55.23 with handbills to invite people to the meetings. 00:53:55.26\00:53:58.77 female: I saw that coming at me, you know, all the colors, 00:53:59.67\00:54:02.10 and I thought, "Oh, no, this is some kind of cult thing." 00:54:02.14\00:54:04.97 Lloyd: And she said, "Thank you very much, 00:54:05.01\00:54:06.78 but I'm not much interested myself, 00:54:06.81\00:54:08.28 but my husband likes that kind of thing." 00:54:08.31\00:54:11.58 female: And Lloyd said, "Would you give it to him, 00:54:11.61\00:54:13.38 please?" 00:54:13.42\00:54:14.72 And I said, "Okay, I will." 00:54:14.75\00:54:17.05 So I took the pamphlet, and I put it on the calendar. 00:54:17.09\00:54:19.85 Gary came home, and he walked by it. 00:54:19.89\00:54:22.19 Gary: Ran to the kitchen to quickly eat and take a shower 00:54:22.22\00:54:24.83 and go back out and work a show. 00:54:24.86\00:54:27.30 female: Two, three days went by like this, and I had moved 00:54:27.30\00:54:29.43 that brochure from the calendar, put it on the dining room table, 00:54:29.46\00:54:33.67 put it back on the counter, and I actually threw it 00:54:33.70\00:54:37.04 in the garbage. 00:54:37.07\00:54:38.37 As I threw it in that garbage can, I could hear him 00:54:38.41\00:54:41.18 and see his face saying, "Would you give it to him, please?" 00:54:41.21\00:54:45.18 And I actually took the garbage out. 00:54:45.21\00:54:46.98 And that night, lying in bed, I kept seeing his face 00:54:47.02\00:54:49.65 and hearing his voice, and thinking, 00:54:49.68\00:54:51.29 "Oh, boy, I got to get that brochure out of the garbage." 00:54:51.32\00:54:55.76 And I took that, and I put it right underneath 00:54:55.79\00:54:58.33 the remote control. 00:54:58.36\00:55:00.36 Bright colors. He'll see it. 00:55:00.40\00:55:02.40 Gary: I finally sat down in my living room, 00:55:02.43\00:55:03.97 and I picked up the remote, and I saw that angel 00:55:04.00\00:55:06.00 holding out that scroll. 00:55:06.03\00:55:07.57 female: "Whoa, cool. What is this?" 00:55:07.60\00:55:10.14 And I was in the kitchen cooking, and I thought, 00:55:10.17\00:55:12.01 "Oh, no." 00:55:12.04\00:55:13.64 Gary: And I looked at it, and I turned it over, 00:55:13.68\00:55:15.54 and then I saw a little building, 00:55:15.58\00:55:17.41 a little church building, and it wasn't too far away. 00:55:17.45\00:55:19.51 It was about six houses down, and it said, "Friday night." 00:55:19.55\00:55:23.05 female: And I certainly wasn't going. 00:55:23.08\00:55:25.12 I mean, it wasn't my intention to go. 00:55:25.15\00:55:27.36 Gary: I didn't have any shows going on that night, 00:55:27.39\00:55:29.16 and so I thought it was a one-night deal. 00:55:29.19\00:55:31.83 I went, and as I heard about the millennium man, 00:55:31.86\00:55:34.66 I was just blown away. 00:55:34.73\00:55:36.63 I didn't want it to end. 00:55:36.67\00:55:37.97 I knew what I was hearing was all from the Scripture, 00:55:38.00\00:55:40.50 and it wasn't based on Hollywood movies or other books 00:55:40.54\00:55:42.90 that were written. 00:55:42.94\00:55:44.24 They said, "Come again tomorrow night," and I thought, 00:55:44.27\00:55:46.07 "Wow, great, two nights." 00:55:46.11\00:55:48.04 So I tried to tell my wife about it, 00:55:48.08\00:55:49.78 and she still wasn't interested, and then she decided to come. 00:55:49.81\00:55:53.35 female: I started to hear the truth, you know, 00:55:53.38\00:55:55.45 and I started to get fed. 00:55:55.48\00:55:56.99 Gary: Every night, after the seminar, 00:55:57.02\00:55:58.65 they would hand us an Amazing Facts study guide. 00:55:58.69\00:56:01.59 I couldn't do those fast enough. 00:56:01.62\00:56:03.16 female: The business kept us going seven days a week, 00:56:03.19\00:56:06.36 and it was night and day. 00:56:06.39\00:56:07.93 Gary: Crews working all around the clock, and so, 00:56:07.96\00:56:10.27 when we finally heard the Sabbath message, you know, 00:56:10.30\00:56:12.97 so far, everything's been true, right from the Bible. 00:56:13.00\00:56:15.10 female: Church on Saturday, no work. 00:56:15.14\00:56:17.14 Anyway, it all clicked. 00:56:17.17\00:56:19.57 Gary: Both our heads turned at each other. 00:56:19.61\00:56:21.04 Our jaws dropped open. 00:56:21.08\00:56:22.64 female: I said, "We can't do that." 00:56:22.68\00:56:25.75 Gary: And the first thing that came out of my mouth was, 00:56:25.78\00:56:27.72 "We have to." 00:56:27.75\00:56:29.12 female: I knew that it would be a sacrifice, 00:56:29.15\00:56:31.25 and I was in fear about it. 00:56:31.29\00:56:34.09 Gary: We didn't know how we were going to do it, 00:56:34.12\00:56:36.26 but we talked to the pastor about it, and the pastor said, 00:56:36.29\00:56:39.83 "Well, just pray about it, and God will open doors." 00:56:39.86\00:56:42.36 female: I didn't want to give up all the connections 00:56:42.40\00:56:44.40 I had made, all the networking, all the money, 00:56:44.43\00:56:46.90 all the investment. 00:56:46.94\00:56:48.44 Gary: We went to the board and ask them if they would 00:56:48.47\00:56:50.07 consider closing on Saturday, and they agreed to, 00:56:50.11\00:56:53.71 so we closed the storefront on Saturday, 00:56:53.74\00:56:55.71 but we were still doing productions, 00:56:55.74\00:56:57.51 and that kind of bothered us, so a couple months later, 00:56:57.55\00:57:01.28 God opened the door for my wife. 00:57:01.32\00:57:02.98 She exited the company. 00:57:03.02\00:57:04.42 I prayed about it, and God opened the door for me too. 00:57:04.45\00:57:06.79 female: Gary, shortly after, was offered a job being paid 00:57:06.82\00:57:10.93 more money than he made as an owner of the company. 00:57:10.96\00:57:14.60 Gary: He said, "I'll give you a thousand-dollar raise, 00:57:14.63\00:57:17.33 and you will never work another weekend. 00:57:17.37\00:57:20.07 female: And we were able to keep the Sabbath and enjoy 00:57:20.10\00:57:23.00 the wonderful blessings that God had for us on the Sabbath day. 00:57:23.04\00:57:27.68 Gary: My kids never again had to say, 00:57:27.71\00:57:29.44 "Quit talking about work." 00:57:29.48\00:57:31.01 After the seminar was over, my wife and I, and my children 00:57:31.05\00:57:33.21 were all baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:57:33.25\00:57:36.45 Even if I gave up everything, I knew that God 00:57:36.48\00:57:38.65 would have something better. 00:57:38.69\00:57:40.42 female: I have much more understanding, 00:57:40.46\00:57:43.32 and there's much more depth in my Christian walk with the Lord. 00:57:43.36\00:57:47.60 Gary: We started an Amazing Facts Bible School at a church 00:57:47.60\00:57:50.07 that allows anybody to understand the Scriptures, 00:57:50.10\00:57:52.97 understand the end times. 00:57:53.00\00:57:54.90 Church changed my life dramatically, 00:57:54.94\00:57:56.91 and I'm very happy and excited to be a part of it. 00:57:56.94\00:57:59.77 ¤¤¤ 00:57:59.81\00:58:05.88 ¤¤¤ 00:58:05.98\00:58:15.99
