Sabbath School Study Hour. 00:00:37.47\00:00:38.93 We are just so grateful that you have decided to come 00:00:38.97\00:00:42.00 and join us here, as we come together in our local church, is good to be able to have you join us 00:01:03.66\00:01:07.50 here over the next hour, as we worship, 00:01:07.56\00:01:10.00 as we study, and as we grow in the faith and the knowledge 00:01:10.03\00:01:13.27 of Jesus Christ, looking at His Word. 00:01:13.30\00:01:17.24 Today is a bit of a milestone Sabbath in the fact that it is 00:01:17.27\00:01:20.91 our last study, our last weekly study on this particular topic 00:01:20.94\00:01:25.35 and quarterly which we've been looking at for three months now, 00:01:25.38\00:01:28.18 which is that of the book of Deuteronomy. 00:01:28.22\00:01:31.25 And so, one of the most powerful, 00:01:31.29\00:01:32.85 fundamental books that we could find in all of Scripture, 00:01:32.89\00:01:35.59 and we are looking at lesson number 13. 00:01:35.62\00:01:38.49 And so, please, if you have a quarterly lesson, 00:01:38.53\00:01:41.46 go ahead and grab that. 00:01:41.50\00:01:42.80 Of course, most importantly grab your Bible. 00:01:42.83\00:01:45.13 The Bible is our main textbook for today's study, 00:01:45.17\00:01:48.50 and we're looking at the resurrection of Moses. 00:01:48.54\00:01:51.11 What are the implications of that? 00:01:51.14\00:01:52.57 What does the Scripture say both in Deuteronomy and outside? 00:01:52.61\00:01:55.71 And so, we look forward to you to study with us here today. 00:01:55.74\00:01:59.88 Now, before we go ahead and invite our singers out to lead 00:01:59.91\00:02:02.72 us in worship, I want to invite you to take advantage of a free 00:02:02.75\00:02:05.75 gift offer that we have for you here this morning, 00:02:05.79\00:02:08.66 and that is entitled, "The Day of the Lord," 00:02:08.69\00:02:11.59 amazing facts about the return of Jesus Christ. 00:02:11.63\00:02:15.43 And so, this is one of the most comprehensive studies 00:02:15.46\00:02:17.97 and resources that you can find in concern 00:02:18.00\00:02:20.54 to the Second coming of Jesus. 00:02:20.57\00:02:22.00 What does the Bible teach on that? 00:02:22.04\00:02:23.47 Go ahead and take advantage of that. 00:02:23.51\00:02:24.81 All you have to do is dial 1-866-788-3966, 00:02:24.84\00:02:30.15 and we will be happy to 00:02:39.99\00:02:41.29 If you're in North America-- 00:02:41.32\00:02:42.62 that's Canada, U.S., and different U.S. Territories-- 00:02:42.66\00:02:44.99 glad to be able to get that to you. 00:02:45.03\00:02:46.73 Now, if you'd like to get a digital copy of that, 00:02:46.76\00:02:48.70 and you are in the North American continent, 00:02:48.73\00:02:52.30 we're happy to be able to have that available to you as well. 00:02:52.33\00:02:55.37 And so, just go ahead and text that. 00:02:55.40\00:02:58.81 You want to text that to the information that 00:02:58.84\00:03:01.38 is on the screen, and we'll be able to-- 00:03:01.41\00:03:03.38 you'll be able to get a free digital download for that. 00:03:03.41\00:03:07.72 I want to invite you to join me, as we ask the Lord 00:03:07.75\00:03:09.92 to be with us in prayer. 00:03:09.95\00:03:11.39 Father in heaven, we thank you for the opportunity 00:03:11.42\00:03:13.29 to be able to be here this morning. 00:03:13.32\00:03:15.56 For those of us who are in the church and for those of us 00:03:15.59\00:03:17.96 who are watching online or on television, 00:03:17.99\00:03:20.83 we want to pray, God, that you will bless each and every one 00:03:20.86\00:03:23.20 of us as we open your Bible. 00:03:23.23\00:03:25.60 We claim that promise, that your Holy Spirit will come 00:03:25.63\00:03:27.94 upon us and lead us and guide us into all truth, 00:03:27.97\00:03:30.97 to give us spiritual discernment. 00:03:31.01\00:03:32.34 And we pray again, Lord, that you will fulfill your promise 00:03:32.37\00:03:37.08 and send that to us even now. 00:03:37.11\00:03:39.05 Please be with our teacher, Pastor Doug, 00:03:39.08\00:03:40.62 as he brings the Word to us; 00:03:40.65\00:03:42.45 and, of course, be with his heart, his mind, 00:03:42.48\00:03:44.22 his lips as he brings to life and explains the Word of God 00:03:44.25\00:03:47.96 for us again today. 00:03:47.99\00:03:49.29 In Jesus's name, we pray these things, God, amen. 00:03:49.32\00:03:52.53 Doug Batchelor: Good morning. 00:03:52.56\00:03:54.86 Good to see each of you here, and I want to welcome again 00:03:54.93\00:03:57.73 those who are watching. 00:03:57.77\00:03:59.07 We know that there's always a lot of people 00:03:59.10\00:04:03.61 from a kaleidoscope of different countries around the world that 00:04:03.64\00:04:06.07 are studying with us for our Sabbath School Study Hour. 00:04:06.11\00:04:09.04 And I'm almost going to have to learn how to do this again. 00:04:09.08\00:04:12.51 It's been so long since I've taught the lesson, 00:04:12.55\00:04:14.52 because we just came off doing this evangelistic program, 00:04:14.55\00:04:17.82 and there was a lot of other things going on. 00:04:17.85\00:04:19.99 And I'm kind of sad because Deuteronomy is my favorite book 00:04:20.02\00:04:24.16 in the Bible, and I've only been able to teach about three or 00:04:24.19\00:04:27.23 four of these lessons; but I'm glad that I get to come here 00:04:27.23\00:04:30.33 for the finale and study this with you. 00:04:30.37\00:04:33.37 Moses is probably one of the most central characters 00:04:33.40\00:04:38.64 of the Bible. 00:04:38.67\00:04:40.34 Of course, not only did he write six books-- 00:04:40.38\00:04:43.95 now you're thinking six-- you've got, you know, Genesis, 00:04:43.98\00:04:46.85 Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. 00:04:46.88\00:04:48.92 Job would be number six. 00:04:48.95\00:04:51.99 But he really is the great lawgiver in the Bible 00:04:52.02\00:04:55.76 that God spoke to. 00:04:55.79\00:04:57.09 He's the one who was the doctor that took care of the birth 00:04:57.13\00:05:01.33 of a nation. 00:05:01.36\00:05:02.80 He was there when Israel was brought out. 00:05:02.83\00:05:04.77 He's a great savior. 00:05:04.80\00:05:06.74 And Moses is such a unique character because, 00:05:06.77\00:05:09.24 of course, he's born as a slave, but he's adopted, 00:05:09.27\00:05:14.14 through miraculous means, raised up in the palace of the most 00:05:14.18\00:05:18.71 sophisticated country in the world at that time. 00:05:18.75\00:05:21.28 So, he received the best education available in his day, 00:05:21.32\00:05:25.85 and then he goes from the palaces; 00:05:25.89\00:05:28.72 and, you know, he kills that Egyptian, 00:05:28.76\00:05:31.23 has to run out into the wilderness. 00:05:31.26\00:05:33.06 And he ends up spending 40 years following around those sheep 00:05:33.09\00:05:39.23 and goats in a desert. 00:05:39.27\00:05:42.00 And he probably figured that's how he would end his days. 00:05:42.04\00:05:44.11 But at 80, God calls him again and says, 00:05:44.14\00:05:47.01 "I've got another big job for you." 00:05:47.04\00:05:50.18 Just an incredible life that Moses lived. 00:05:50.21\00:05:52.65 Now, Moses's life is divided in an interesting way, 00:05:52.68\00:05:56.22 three generations. 00:05:56.25\00:05:58.95 You have the 40 years of Moses's life where he is in Egypt. 00:05:58.99\00:06:05.23 Then you have the 40 years where he is in the wilderness. 00:06:05.26\00:06:08.70 And then you have the 40 years where he is leading people 00:06:08.73\00:06:11.03 from Egypt to the borders of the Promised Land. 00:06:11.07\00:06:14.64 So, this is at the birth of the nation. 00:06:14.67\00:06:17.74 When Israel was finally settled in the Promised Land, 00:06:17.77\00:06:20.31 they have three 40s. 00:06:20.34\00:06:23.24 You've got the 40 years of King Saul, the first king. 00:06:23.28\00:06:27.22 He starts to deliver them from the Philistines. 00:06:27.25\00:06:29.15 Then you've got 40 years of David's reign. 00:06:29.18\00:06:32.85 And then you have 40 years of Solomon's reign. 00:06:32.89\00:06:36.02 And then the kingdom is divided. 00:06:36.06\00:06:38.39 So, you've got 40 is sort of like a generation in the Bible. 00:06:38.43\00:06:41.86 And that's why I think it's interesting that Jesus said in 00:06:41.90\00:06:44.63 about 30 AD, speaking of the destruction of the temple, 00:06:44.67\00:06:48.24 He said, "There will not be left here one stone upon another 00:06:48.27\00:06:51.31 that will not be thrown away. 00:06:51.34\00:06:52.64 This generation will not pass away--" 00:06:52.67\00:06:55.78 Jesus makes that prediction in 30 AD; 00:06:55.81\00:06:58.05 and 70 AD, 40 years later, the temple is destroyed. 00:06:58.08\00:07:02.25 So, even the numbers connected 00:07:02.28\00:07:03.79 with the life of Moses are amazing. 00:07:03.82\00:07:06.29 Well, we're coming to the end of Moses's life, 00:07:06.32\00:07:09.49 but it actually is kind of ending on a happy note. 00:07:09.52\00:07:12.59 The title of the lesson is, "The Resurrection of Moses." 00:07:12.63\00:07:16.67 And we have a memory verse. 00:07:16.70\00:07:18.13 The memory verse is from the book of Jude, 00:07:18.17\00:07:20.57 and this is verse 9, because there's only one 00:07:20.60\00:07:22.80 chapter in the book of Jude. 00:07:22.84\00:07:24.14 If you have your quarterly with you, 00:07:24.17\00:07:26.31 you can find this in your Bible. 00:07:26.34\00:07:28.11 I'd encourage you, just say it out loud with me. 00:07:28.14\00:07:31.05 This is Jude verse 9. 00:07:31.08\00:07:32.68 Here in your lesson, it's from the New King James Version. 00:07:32.71\00:07:34.78 You ready? 00:07:34.82\00:07:36.79 "Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, 00:07:36.82\00:07:41.02 when he disputed about the body of Moses, 00:07:41.06\00:07:43.79 dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, 00:07:43.83\00:07:47.50 but he said, 'The Lord rebuke you.'" 00:07:47.50\00:07:50.40 It's talking about some contest between Michael the archangel, 00:07:50.43\00:07:54.97 and the devil, and the body of Moses. 00:07:55.00\00:07:58.17 And so this comes up a little later in the lesson, 00:07:58.21\00:08:00.64 so we'll take a closer look at that. 00:08:00.68\00:08:02.74 But if you go to section one, it talks about the sin of Moses. 00:08:02.78\00:08:10.62 Now, Moses, while he was a man, 00:08:10.65\00:08:12.15 in many ways it was a type of Christ. 00:08:12.19\00:08:14.99 He was a human. How many humans have sinned? 00:08:15.02\00:08:19.43 All. 00:08:19.46\00:08:20.76 Just the right side of the auditorium? 00:08:20.80\00:08:22.40 Just the left? 00:08:22.43\00:08:23.73 Some of you 50/50 down the middle? 00:08:23.77\00:08:25.80 It's everybody. 00:08:25.83\00:08:28.64 You can even look at the person on the left and the right and 00:08:28.67\00:08:30.54 say, "You know, you're a sinner," 00:08:30.57\00:08:31.94 and you'd be telling the truth. 00:08:31.97\00:08:33.27 Don't do it, but you could. 00:08:33.31\00:08:34.94 So, we're all sinners except one person. 00:08:34.98\00:08:38.55 Who is it that lived a life without sin? 00:08:38.58\00:08:41.18 Jesus. 00:08:41.22\00:08:42.52 So, even though Moses was a great man-- 00:08:42.55\00:08:45.35 and do you know there's some Bible characters, 00:08:45.39\00:08:48.22 you don't really find a record 00:08:48.26\00:08:50.03 of the sin of Daniel in the Bible. 00:08:50.06\00:08:54.56 But you know, Daniel in chapter 9, 00:08:54.60\00:08:56.06 he says, "While I was confessing my sin 00:08:56.10\00:08:57.80 and the sin of my people--" 00:08:57.83\00:08:59.53 He saw he was a sinner. 00:08:59.57\00:09:01.00 Joseph, I mean Joseph, he was so obedient, 00:09:01.04\00:09:06.01 but you don't really find a record of any sin in Joseph's 00:09:06.04\00:09:09.41 life, but even these godly people-- 00:09:09.44\00:09:14.92 Elijah, we read that he was a man subject 00:09:14.95\00:09:17.82 to like passions as we are. 00:09:17.85\00:09:19.82 He struggled. 00:09:19.85\00:09:21.16 He got discouraged and afraid he might die. 00:09:21.19\00:09:23.36 So, they were human. So, don't get discouraged. 00:09:23.39\00:09:26.16 But Christ was sinless. 00:09:26.19\00:09:27.50 Even Moses, he made some mistakes along the way. 00:09:27.56\00:09:31.93 And if you look in your lesson, the first section here talking 00:09:31.97\00:09:34.70 about the sin of Moses-- before I get to that, 00:09:34.74\00:09:38.31 we're not going to get to the big sin that kept him out 00:09:38.34\00:09:40.31 of the Promised Land. 00:09:40.34\00:09:41.78 First you read in Exodus 2, verse 11, 00:09:41.81\00:09:45.15 "It came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, 00:09:45.18\00:09:49.45 and he went to his brethren, and he looked at their burdens. 00:09:49.48\00:09:52.32 And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, 00:09:52.35\00:09:54.02 one of his brethren. 00:09:54.06\00:09:55.36 He looked this way and that--" 00:09:55.39\00:09:56.86 He knew he was going to do something to that taskmaster. 00:09:56.89\00:09:59.43 So, he looked around to see if there were any witnesses. 00:09:59.46\00:10:02.20 "And when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him 00:10:02.23\00:10:05.33 in the sand." 00:10:05.37\00:10:07.04 Maybe he thought this was going to be the first step in 00:10:07.07\00:10:09.34 launching a revolution to help all the slaves rise up and help 00:10:09.37\00:10:14.51 him overwhelm the Egyptians. 00:10:14.54\00:10:17.05 He had a sense that God wanted to use him somehow to deliver 00:10:17.08\00:10:20.72 his people from the Egyptians, but that wasn't God's plan. 00:10:20.75\00:10:23.82 He kind of acted on his own, committed murder in the process. 00:10:23.85\00:10:27.79 You go to Exodus 4. 00:10:27.82\00:10:29.16 And when God calls him-- 00:10:29.19\00:10:31.29 this is after the 40 years in the wilderness- 00:10:31.33\00:10:33.16 God calls Moses and says, 00:10:33.19\00:10:35.06 "I want to use you," and he starts to equivocate 00:10:35.10\00:10:38.50 and make all these excuses. 00:10:38.53\00:10:40.44 And this is Exodus 4:13. 00:10:40.47\00:10:43.41 "He said, 'O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever 00:10:43.44\00:10:45.74 You will send. 00:10:45.77\00:10:47.61 So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses." 00:10:47.64\00:10:51.45 Now, would God get angry with Moses unless Moses had done 00:10:51.48\00:10:54.32 something wrong? 00:10:54.35\00:10:55.98 Does that make sense? So, Moses sinned. 00:10:56.02\00:10:58.55 He had said, "No, I don't want to do it, 00:10:58.59\00:10:59.89 and you get someone else. 00:10:59.92\00:11:02.06 And look online, you'll find somebody. 00:11:02.09\00:11:04.99 I haven't spoken Egyptian in years." 00:11:05.03\00:11:07.36 And God said, "Who made man's tongue?" 00:11:07.40\00:11:11.60 And then you read in Exodus 4:24, 00:11:11.63\00:11:14.57 "And it came to pass on the way, at the encampment, 00:11:14.60\00:11:17.77 that the LORD met him and sought to kill him." 00:11:17.81\00:11:21.01 Now, this is--we always get questions 00:11:21.04\00:11:22.51 about this interesting little episode. 00:11:22.54\00:11:24.65 You just, you read the word, "The LORD sought to kill him," 00:11:24.68\00:11:27.98 and it's almost like God swung, and He missed. 00:11:28.02\00:11:31.99 If God wants to kill you, can He kill you? 00:11:32.02\00:11:34.39 No, it means that He was-- He had judgment. 00:11:34.42\00:11:38.06 He had, like, the sword of Damocles hanging over him, 00:11:38.09\00:11:41.93 kind of like Balaam, an angel with a sword. 00:11:41.96\00:11:43.70 And he said, "If it wasn't for the donkey, 00:11:43.73\00:11:45.07 I would've slain you." 00:11:45.10\00:11:46.87 And so, you know, sometimes God shows you're on the verge 00:11:46.90\00:11:49.87 of disaster, because Moses was disobeying when it came 00:11:49.90\00:11:53.91 to the covenant of circumcision. 00:11:53.94\00:11:56.34 And so, we see that, you know, in the life of Moses, 00:11:56.38\00:11:58.81 that he was a person, he loved the Lord, 00:11:58.85\00:12:01.92 he wanted to serve the Lord, but he made mistakes. 00:12:01.95\00:12:04.29 But then finally, unfortunately, near the end of his life, 00:12:04.32\00:12:10.46 he's just about brought the people to the borders 00:12:10.49\00:12:12.33 of the Promised Land. 00:12:12.36\00:12:14.00 Moses became exasperated. 00:12:14.03\00:12:16.26 And you feel for him, because you think, 00:12:16.30\00:12:18.37 after all he's been through, to kind of lose it on the borders 00:12:18.40\00:12:22.67 of the Promised Land like that, how tragic. 00:12:22.70\00:12:25.41 Now, you read about this in Numbers chapter 20, verse 7. 00:12:25.44\00:12:29.98 "Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 00:12:30.01\00:12:32.91 'Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron 00:12:32.95\00:12:36.15 gather the congregation--'" 00:12:36.18\00:12:37.62 Now, this is happening because they're out of water again. 00:12:37.65\00:12:40.52 "'Gather the congregation and speak to the rock 00:12:40.56\00:12:44.36 before their eyes.'" 00:12:44.39\00:12:45.69 What were they to do? To speak. 00:12:45.73\00:12:48.63 And they were not to shout, and they were not to beat the rock, 00:12:48.66\00:12:52.60 they were to "'Speak to the rock before their eyes, 00:12:52.63\00:12:55.94 and it will yield its water.'" 00:12:55.97\00:12:57.74 Now, this evidently had happened several times because, 00:12:57.77\00:13:01.08 you know, when they first came out of Egypt, 00:13:01.11\00:13:02.64 they drank water at the springs of Marah, 00:13:02.68\00:13:06.08 and then they went further in the desert, 00:13:06.11\00:13:08.18 and they had no water, and they cried unto Moses, 00:13:08.22\00:13:10.32 and Moses, he struck the rock one time. 00:13:10.35\00:13:14.12 Water came out of the rock, and that was a type of Christ. 00:13:14.16\00:13:16.29 That was only supposed to happen one time. 00:13:16.32\00:13:18.33 Jesus was only smitten once for you, 00:13:18.36\00:13:21.03 meaning, you know, there was only one judgment of Christ. 00:13:21.06\00:13:24.30 And but as they went from place to place, 00:13:24.33\00:13:28.70 it seems like this miracle was repeated, 00:13:28.74\00:13:32.14 because Paul says, "The rock that followed them was Christ." 00:13:32.17\00:13:35.88 And it talks about this rock that living water came out of. 00:13:35.91\00:13:39.21 And so, this had to happen more than one time. 00:13:39.25\00:13:43.59 "'Speak to the rock, and it will yield its water; 00:13:43.62\00:13:47.29 and you'll give the congregation to drink and their animals.'" 00:13:47.32\00:13:49.92 So, it must've been quite a bit of water. 00:13:49.96\00:13:52.33 "So Moses took the rod from before the LORD 00:13:52.36\00:13:54.46 as the LORD commanded him. 00:13:54.50\00:13:56.73 And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together 00:13:56.77\00:13:59.70 before the rock; and he said to them, 00:13:59.73\00:14:01.97 'Hear now, ye rebels! 00:14:02.00\00:14:04.14 Must we bring water out of this rock?' 00:14:04.17\00:14:07.11 Then Moses lifted up his hand, and he struck the rock twice 00:14:07.14\00:14:10.38 with his rod; and water came out abundantly, 00:14:10.41\00:14:14.28 and the congregation and their animals drank. 00:14:14.32\00:14:17.95 Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, 00:14:17.99\00:14:20.52 saying, 'Because you did not believe Me, 00:14:20.56\00:14:23.49 to hallow or to honor Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, 00:14:23.53\00:14:27.56 therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that 00:14:27.60\00:14:31.03 I have given them.'" 00:14:31.07\00:14:32.63 Ooh, that's a pretty heavy judgment. 00:14:32.67\00:14:35.40 I mean, your whole life mission has been to be used of God, 00:14:35.44\00:14:38.41 to bring the people into the Promised Land, 00:14:38.44\00:14:40.74 and you're not far from the borders of the Promised Land. 00:14:40.78\00:14:44.41 You lose your temper, and you sin. 00:14:44.45\00:14:47.45 And now what was the sin of Moses in this event? 00:14:47.48\00:14:52.99 Some people think the Lord is being pretty harsh on Moses. 00:14:53.02\00:14:57.79 I mean, if you had to lead this-- 00:14:57.83\00:15:00.40 the Bible says they were stubborn and stiffnecked people. 00:15:00.43\00:15:05.33 Several times, Moses said, 00:15:05.37\00:15:06.67 "Lord, why do you have me responsible 00:15:06.70\00:15:10.27 for all these people?" 00:15:10.31\00:15:11.61 He said, "Did I bring them forth? 00:15:11.64\00:15:12.94 I'm not their father. Why have I got this burden?" 00:15:12.97\00:15:16.14 And 40 years of judging the people. 00:15:16.18\00:15:19.45 Now, the Bible tells us that Moses sat as a judge. 00:15:19.48\00:15:22.08 First, he was judging every little case, 00:15:22.12\00:15:23.55 and then he got some elders to help him, 00:15:23.59\00:15:25.02 but he still was sitting as sort of the supreme court, 00:15:25.05\00:15:27.62 all their disputes. 00:15:27.66\00:15:28.96 You know what a judge has to do? 00:15:28.99\00:15:30.56 He's got to listen to problems all day long, 00:15:30.59\00:15:33.13 and he's got to find solutions. 00:15:33.16\00:15:35.10 Can you see where Moses would get tired? 00:15:35.13\00:15:36.83 And how many times did they lose faith? 00:15:36.87\00:15:40.40 God, you know, saves them from Egypt, 00:15:40.44\00:15:42.44 through all the plagues. 00:15:42.47\00:15:44.07 Then they lose faith there at the borders of the Red Sea. 00:15:44.11\00:15:48.58 And then God parts the sea for them, 00:15:48.61\00:15:50.38 which would, you know, probably stick in my mind. 00:15:50.41\00:15:52.71 Then they run out of bread, and they say, 00:15:52.75\00:15:54.05 "The Lord doesn't love us. 00:15:54.08\00:15:55.38 He brought us out here," to kill them. 00:15:55.42\00:15:56.72 God gives them bread. Then they run out of water. 00:15:56.75\00:15:58.59 God gives them water. 00:15:58.62\00:15:59.92 Then they're attacked by their enemies. 00:15:59.95\00:16:01.62 God delivers them from their enemies. 00:16:01.66\00:16:03.02 You think, time after time-- 00:16:03.06\00:16:06.16 they said, "Oh, we need some meat." 00:16:06.19\00:16:07.56 God sends them quail. 00:16:07.60\00:16:09.06 Time after time, when a miracle arose, 00:16:09.10\00:16:11.27 and God answered their prayer, 00:16:11.30\00:16:13.20 you think they'd finally start behaving. 00:16:13.23\00:16:16.10 But this goes right up to the borders of the Promised Land. 00:16:16.14\00:16:19.74 And can you understand maybe why Moses would become exasperated? 00:16:19.77\00:16:23.21 Now, are we a lot better than the children of Israel? 00:16:23.24\00:16:27.48 How many of you have had God perform miracles 00:16:27.52\00:16:29.45 of provision for you in your life? 00:16:29.48\00:16:33.36 Have you sometimes forgotten His provision? 00:16:33.39\00:16:38.83 When something goes wrong-- 00:16:38.86\00:16:40.16 you know, five minutes of listening to the devil, 00:16:40.20\00:16:43.00 you can forget all of God's miracles and blessings 00:16:43.03\00:16:45.50 in your life. 00:16:45.53\00:16:46.84 It's just amazing how that works. 00:16:46.87\00:16:49.40 And Moses, I don't know what happened. 00:16:49.44\00:16:51.67 He was tired. He was exasperated. 00:16:51.71\00:16:53.58 And he and Aaron, they got so angry, they struck the rock. 00:16:53.61\00:16:59.21 They sort of berated the people. 00:16:59.25\00:17:01.65 "You rebels." 00:17:01.68\00:17:03.52 He struck it twice. 00:17:03.55\00:17:05.29 God didn't tell them to strike it at all. 00:17:05.32\00:17:07.66 And evidently, he had just lost his temper. 00:17:07.69\00:17:11.26 Probably Moses had lost his temper with some righteous 00:17:11.29\00:17:13.96 indignation when he killed the Egyptian earlier in his life. 00:17:14.00\00:17:17.47 And yet, the Bible says he was the meekest man that ever lived. 00:17:17.50\00:17:21.00 So, what was the sin of Moses? 00:17:21.04\00:17:22.80 I've got four things here that I identify in this experience. 00:17:22.84\00:17:27.31 One, God had commanded him to take the rod in his hand, 00:17:27.34\00:17:30.11 and to speak to the rock. 00:17:30.15\00:17:32.11 Moses disobeyed, and he smote the rock. 00:17:32.15\00:17:35.08 Secondly, he struck the rock twice, 00:17:35.12\00:17:38.32 which indicated an anger of spirit and a want of attention 00:17:38.35\00:17:42.06 to the presence of God. 00:17:42.09\00:17:43.39 He forgot that he was a messenger for God, 00:17:43.43\00:17:45.93 and God was there. 00:17:45.96\00:17:48.10 Three, he permitted his spirit to be overwhelmed by his sense 00:17:48.13\00:17:51.53 of the people's hardness of heart; 00:17:51.57\00:17:53.37 and thus, being provoked, was led to speak unadvisedly 00:17:53.40\00:17:56.17 with his lips. 00:17:56.20\00:17:57.51 "Hear now, ye rebels." 00:17:57.54\00:17:59.94 That's not what God told him to say. 00:18:00.04\00:18:02.28 And four, he did not glorify God, 00:18:02.31\00:18:05.48 but he took the glory and the honor 00:18:05.51\00:18:06.88 for this miracle on himself. 00:18:06.92\00:18:08.28 He said, "Must we bring you water out of the rock?" 00:18:08.32\00:18:11.32 Moses was not a magician. 00:18:11.35\00:18:13.96 Now, the interesting thing about this is even though Moses did 00:18:13.99\00:18:16.39 all of those things wrong, did God still bring water 00:18:16.42\00:18:18.43 out of the rock? 00:18:18.46\00:18:21.20 I wonder how many times God has answered our prayers, 00:18:21.23\00:18:23.33 even though we pray wrong. 00:18:23.37\00:18:26.77 And sometimes God has blessed, 00:18:26.80\00:18:29.60 even though the messenger is flawed. 00:18:29.64\00:18:34.61 I remind myself of that frequently, 00:18:34.64\00:18:36.78 that the Word of God has inherent power. 00:18:36.81\00:18:38.98 And even though I could be a flawed vehicle, 00:18:39.01\00:18:41.15 God can still perform a miracle for you. 00:18:41.18\00:18:45.05 I remember meeting a man that said he came to the Lord at 00:18:45.09\00:18:50.59 listening to an evangelistic program by an evangelist 00:18:50.63\00:18:53.96 that was later arrested for living a double life. 00:18:54.00\00:18:59.47 But while the evangelist was up preaching, 00:18:59.50\00:19:03.04 he was saying things that were true. 00:19:03.07\00:19:04.51 This man gave his heart to Jesus. 00:19:04.54\00:19:07.18 Even though the evangelist, at the very time he was preaching, 00:19:07.21\00:19:11.18 was misbehaving badly with finances and with girlfriends, 00:19:11.21\00:19:17.15 and that struck me. 00:19:17.19\00:19:18.82 This was years ago, when I was pastoring in New Mexico. 00:19:18.85\00:19:22.06 This guy, he just said, "You know, 00:19:22.09\00:19:24.16 his sermon brought me to the Lord." 00:19:24.19\00:19:25.93 I thought, the Lord used him. 00:19:25.96\00:19:27.56 And then I remember God can speak 00:19:27.60\00:19:28.86 through a donkey, right? 00:19:28.90\00:19:30.73 So, God performed the miracle because He's God, 00:19:30.77\00:19:33.57 even though Moses did not go about it the right way. 00:19:33.60\00:19:36.77 So, Moses sinned, and there are severe consequences 00:19:36.81\00:19:40.04 for that sin. 00:19:40.08\00:19:41.38 What did God say? 00:19:41.41\00:19:42.71 "You will not bring the congregation into the land." 00:19:42.74\00:19:46.15 There probably couldn't have been any keener punishment. 00:19:46.18\00:19:49.35 He was looking forward to making the final delivery 00:19:49.38\00:19:53.05 of the package, if you know what I mean. 00:19:53.09\00:19:57.03 So, this was a great disappointment. 00:19:57.06\00:19:59.46 In Deuteronomy 1, verse 36, Moses now is rehearsing 00:19:59.49\00:20:03.47 the experience of the children of Israel, 00:20:03.50\00:20:07.44 and he said that no one's going to enter the Promised Land 00:20:07.47\00:20:10.04 from that original group that are over 20 years of age, 00:20:10.07\00:20:13.21 "'except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; 00:20:13.24\00:20:16.01 he shall see it, to him and all his children I'm giving the land 00:20:16.04\00:20:19.05 on which he walked, because he wholly followed the LORD.' 00:20:19.08\00:20:22.25 The LORD was also angry with me for your sakes, 00:20:22.28\00:20:26.09 saying, 'Even you shall not enter in here. 00:20:26.12\00:20:29.89 Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, 00:20:29.92\00:20:31.96 he will go in there. 00:20:31.99\00:20:33.40 Encourage him, for he will cause the children 00:20:33.43\00:20:35.66 of Israel to inherit it.'" 00:20:35.70\00:20:37.37 There's several things I want yo to notice here. 00:20:37.40\00:20:38.73 First of all, it might have been a little bit hard when you know 00:20:38.77\00:20:43.04 somebody is replacing you because you've performed poorly. 00:20:43.07\00:20:46.61 And then the boss says, "I want you to train them and tell them 00:20:46.64\00:20:51.21 everything you know 'cause they're gonna take your place 00:20:51.25\00:20:53.31 when you're fired." 00:20:53.35\00:20:55.62 How do you like that assignment? 00:20:55.65\00:20:58.22 "We've hired your replacement. 00:20:58.25\00:21:00.46 Encourage them. 00:21:00.49\00:21:01.92 Teach them, train them 'cause you're not going 00:21:01.96\00:21:03.96 into the Promised Land. 00:21:03.99\00:21:05.29 You don't get your retirement." 00:21:05.33\00:21:08.60 But he took that well. 00:21:08.63\00:21:09.93 The other thing is don't miss the Word. 00:21:09.96\00:21:13.64 Do you have your Bibles open? 00:21:13.67\00:21:16.20 I want you to highlight a verse, if you do. 00:21:16.24\00:21:18.47 If you look here, I read through it, 00:21:18.51\00:21:19.81 but I don't know if you caught it. 00:21:19.84\00:21:21.14 Deuteronomy 3, verse 26. 00:21:21.18\00:21:24.55 "But the LORD was angry with me on your account, 00:21:24.58\00:21:30.32 and would not listen to me." 00:21:30.35\00:21:33.66 Who does that remind you of? 00:21:33.69\00:21:37.49 Who took the anger of the Lord on our account? 00:21:37.53\00:21:41.03 Jesus. 00:21:41.06\00:21:42.50 Moses is the great mediator. 00:21:42.53\00:21:44.23 He is one of the most powerful types of Christ in the Bible. 00:21:44.27\00:21:47.80 Did the devil try to kill Jesus as a baby? 00:21:47.84\00:21:51.34 Did the devil try to kill Moses as a baby? 00:21:51.37\00:21:54.34 He did. 00:21:54.38\00:21:55.71 Did--was Moses born among slaves, 00:21:55.74\00:21:59.58 but he was never a slave? 00:21:59.61\00:22:01.12 Jesus was born among sinners, but He was never a sinner. 00:22:01.15\00:22:05.55 Was Moses the great mediator that went between God and man? 00:22:05.59\00:22:08.39 A mediator, of course, is, you know, a go-between. 00:22:08.42\00:22:10.83 Moses said, "I'll speak to the Lord, 00:22:10.86\00:22:12.16 and then I'll come and I'll speak to you, 00:22:12.19\00:22:13.50 and then I'll go back and speak to the Lord." 00:22:13.53\00:22:15.70 Went up the mountain. And Christ is our intercessor. 00:22:15.73\00:22:19.67 You see a picture of Joshua leading the children of Israel 00:22:19.70\00:22:22.24 into battle with the Amalekites, and Moses was standing 00:22:22.27\00:22:24.71 on the mountain with his arms outstretched. 00:22:24.74\00:22:26.94 And as long as the people see him with his arms stretched out, 00:22:26.98\00:22:29.74 interceding for them, they're victorious. 00:22:29.78\00:22:32.01 When his arms get tired, and they go down, they lose. 00:22:32.05\00:22:34.62 So, Aaron and Hur lift his arms back up, they win. 00:22:34.65\00:22:38.12 There's lose, win; lose, lose, lose, lose; win. 00:22:38.15\00:22:42.22 But they noticed there was a connection. 00:22:42.26\00:22:44.09 What does that say to us? 00:22:44.13\00:22:45.93 When we see Jesus on that hill, on the cross, 00:22:45.96\00:22:48.26 with His arms stretched out, and we know that He's interceding 00:22:48.30\00:22:52.43 now with His hands stretched out before the Father, 00:22:52.47\00:22:55.27 that it is encouraging us in the battle against the enemy, amen? 00:22:55.30\00:23:01.88 So, he says, "The LORD was angry with me on your account." 00:23:01.91\00:23:05.75 You know, even though there's great people in the Bible, 00:23:05.78\00:23:08.35 sometimes they don't always get everything they may have wanted. 00:23:08.38\00:23:13.89 What was the big desire of David's heart? 00:23:13.92\00:23:18.73 He wanted to build a temple for the Lord. 00:23:18.76\00:23:22.26 And he had been a shepherd living in tents, 00:23:22.30\00:23:24.67 and he saw the tabernacle of the Lord was in a tent. 00:23:24.70\00:23:28.24 But finally, David became king, and he had a beautiful house, 00:23:28.27\00:23:30.41 but the tabernacle was still in the tent-- 00:23:30.44\00:23:32.24 or the ark was still in a tent, and he wanted to build it. 00:23:32.27\00:23:36.31 And first Nathan said, "Go for it. 00:23:36.34\00:23:37.65 The Lord is with you, David." 00:23:37.68\00:23:39.11 Then God spoke to Nathan the prophet and said, 00:23:39.15\00:23:40.45 "Go back, tell David, 'No, you're a bloody man. 00:23:40.48\00:23:43.89 You cannot build it for me, but your son-- 00:23:43.92\00:23:45.75 his name is Solomon, or peace-- he will build me a house. 00:23:45.79\00:23:50.79 Your son will build me a house that will last forever.'" 00:23:50.83\00:23:53.36 Jesus is the Son of David who built the house for the Lord. 00:23:53.40\00:23:57.37 David didn't get to fulfill his promise of doing it himself. 00:23:57.40\00:24:00.94 So, he made every provision for his son. 00:24:00.97\00:24:03.74 Moses did not get to bring the people into the Promised Land, 00:24:03.77\00:24:06.27 so he made every provision for Joshua. 00:24:06.31\00:24:09.08 And the book of Deuteronomy was sort of the final message 00:24:09.11\00:24:12.88 of encouragement, rehearsing the history. 00:24:12.91\00:24:16.08 I think I told you it's one of the most important books, 00:24:16.12\00:24:18.89 because it's the book Jesus quotes from three times when 00:24:18.92\00:24:22.56 He's tempted by the devil. 00:24:22.59\00:24:24.23 All three times, He quotes from Deuteronomy. 00:24:24.26\00:24:27.60 When the nation of Israel had lost the Word of God, 00:24:27.60\00:24:31.80 and Hilkiah the priest was cleaning out the temple, 00:24:31.83\00:24:33.64 he says, "We've found the book of the law." 00:24:33.67\00:24:36.14 They had found the book of Deuteronomy, 00:24:36.17\00:24:39.01 and that brought about a revival. 00:24:39.04\00:24:40.88 So, the message here is very powerful. 00:24:40.91\00:24:43.18 Moses writes that book after he knows he's not going to make it 00:24:43.21\00:24:48.18 into the Promised Land physically. 00:24:48.22\00:24:51.65 So, then we've got the next section, 00:24:51.69\00:24:53.29 the sin of Moses, part two. 00:24:53.32\00:24:55.79 Deuteronomy 31, verse 1 and 2, 00:24:55.82\00:24:58.69 "Then Moses went and spoke these words to all of Israel. 00:24:58.73\00:25:02.03 He said to them: 'I am one hundred and twenty years 00:25:02.06\00:25:04.63 old today. 00:25:04.67\00:25:05.97 I can no longer go out and come in. 00:25:06.00\00:25:08.77 Also the LORD has said to me, 00:25:08.80\00:25:10.64 'You shall not cross over this Jordan.'" 00:25:10.67\00:25:13.64 Moses was realizing his limitations. 00:25:13.68\00:25:16.54 And he said--now, when it says he's 120 years old, 00:25:16.58\00:25:19.61 and he said, "I can't go out and come in," 00:25:19.65\00:25:22.45 I don't think it means that Moses was feeble. 00:25:22.48\00:25:25.29 Because you read later, before he died, 00:25:25.32\00:25:27.39 he climbs a mountain, and the Bible says his natural force was 00:25:27.42\00:25:31.26 not abated, and his eyes had not dimmed. 00:25:31.29\00:25:34.73 I think he's telling them, you know, 00:25:34.76\00:25:36.43 "I can't go into the Promised Land. 00:25:36.46\00:25:38.63 I can't continue to go out and come in and lead you anymore," 00:25:38.67\00:25:41.84 as he had done. 00:25:41.87\00:25:43.17 He had been going in and coming out to the tabernacle 00:25:43.20\00:25:44.97 as their representative, and the time was going to end. 00:25:45.01\00:25:49.01 Deuteronomy 34, verse 1, "Then Moses went up from the plains 00:25:49.04\00:25:53.58 of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, 00:25:53.62\00:25:57.22 which is across from Jericho. 00:25:57.25\00:25:59.62 And the Lord showed him all the land of Gilead as far as Dan, 00:25:59.65\00:26:03.19 and all Naphtali." 00:26:03.22\00:26:04.53 Now, why does God show him this? 00:26:04.56\00:26:07.76 You know, God said, "Look, I know how much you wanted 00:26:07.83\00:26:10.23 to lead them into the land, but I'm going to give you a vision 00:26:10.27\00:26:13.00 of the land." 00:26:13.03\00:26:14.34 Now, we've been in that country before. 00:26:14.37\00:26:17.54 And from the top of Mount Pisgah, 00:26:17.57\00:26:19.57 or Nebo--and when you sing in your hymnal, 00:26:19.61\00:26:23.51 you'll be surprised there are several songs that talk about 00:26:23.55\00:26:25.88 from Pisgah's lofty heights, or something like that. 00:26:25.91\00:26:28.38 It's referring to the mountain where Moses saw the Promised 00:26:28.42\00:26:31.19 Land from this mountain. 00:26:31.22\00:26:33.36 But you can't see all the places 00:26:33.39\00:26:36.73 that are mentioned here with natural eyes. 00:26:36.76\00:26:39.69 If you've got eagle vision, you can't see all these places, 00:26:39.73\00:26:42.96 because they were hidden by other mountains. 00:26:43.00\00:26:45.40 So, when it says God showed him this, 00:26:45.43\00:26:47.00 he saw it in a supernatural vision here. 00:26:47.04\00:26:50.74 He says--let me go back here to Deuteronomy chapter 4, 00:26:50.77\00:26:54.74 and you can read here, and it says it showed him the land 00:26:54.78\00:26:57.85 across the land of Gilead as far as Dan. 00:26:57.88\00:27:00.35 That's way up in the north. 00:27:00.38\00:27:01.85 All of Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, 00:27:01.88\00:27:05.15 and all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea. 00:27:05.19\00:27:07.96 Now, for one thing, had the children of Israel had their 00:27:07.99\00:27:10.76 land divided to them yet? 00:27:10.79\00:27:13.80 No, the land had not even been divided. 00:27:13.83\00:27:15.83 So, how is it God's showing him the land of Judah, 00:27:15.86\00:27:18.83 and He's showing him the land of Manasseh. 00:27:18.87\00:27:20.60 They hadn't even cast lots to figure out whose land 00:27:20.64\00:27:22.14 was whose land. 00:27:22.17\00:27:23.71 God is showing Moses in a vision the land. 00:27:23.74\00:27:28.18 You know, it's kind of fun. 00:27:28.21\00:27:31.05 How many of you have a drone? 00:27:31.08\00:27:34.58 One, two, three, four, five, six. 00:27:34.62\00:27:40.72 I don't have a drone. Amazing Facts has a drone. 00:27:40.76\00:27:42.86 They're really neat because you can get an aerial perspective. 00:27:42.89\00:27:47.83 And they're using drones for all kinds of things. 00:27:47.86\00:27:50.37 And you know, people get lost in the woods, 00:27:50.40\00:27:52.63 they're sending up a drone to go find them now. 00:27:52.67\00:27:54.87 And if folks are hiking down a trail, 00:27:54.90\00:27:56.20 and they don't know which way to turn, 00:27:56.24\00:27:57.54 they send the drone up, and they go look around. 00:27:57.57\00:27:58.97 And movies are almost exclusively using drones, 00:27:59.01\00:28:01.94 where they used to use helicopters 00:28:01.98\00:28:03.28 to get these great shots. 00:28:03.31\00:28:04.61 It's really great 00:28:04.65\00:28:05.95 'cause it gives you an interesting perspective. 00:28:05.98\00:28:07.92 On the website of our church, you'll see the opening shot 00:28:07.95\00:28:12.29 is a video. 00:28:12.32\00:28:13.62 It's a flyover of the church with a drone. 00:28:13.66\00:28:15.62 Well, God actually gave him sort of, like, a drone shot of 00:28:15.66\00:28:18.93 the Promised Land, but He didn't show it to them the way it was. 00:28:18.96\00:28:22.63 I think He showed them the Promised Land at its zenith 00:28:22.66\00:28:25.27 of glory, the land flowing with milk and honey. 00:28:25.30\00:28:29.40 Now, whenever you say that-- 00:28:29.44\00:28:30.74 if you've ever been to Israel, and you know-- 00:28:30.77\00:28:33.68 I remember reading in the Bible about this 00:28:33.71\00:28:35.41 land flowing with milk and honey. 00:28:35.44\00:28:37.35 And then you read the stories in the Bible. 00:28:37.38\00:28:38.75 You know, Absalom's riding through the woods, 00:28:38.78\00:28:40.65 and he gets his head caught in a tree. 00:28:40.68\00:28:42.35 And Jonathan's going through the woods, 00:28:42.38\00:28:44.15 and honey is dripping from the trees. 00:28:44.19\00:28:46.02 And you hear about the woods. 00:28:46.05\00:28:48.52 And then you go to Israel, and it's a lot of desert, 00:28:48.56\00:28:54.73 and you don't see a lot of honey, 00:28:54.76\00:28:56.06 and you don't see a lot of milk, 00:28:56.10\00:28:57.40 and you don't see a lot of woods. 00:28:57.43\00:28:58.73 And you're going, what happened? 00:28:58.77\00:29:00.90 Well, this has been one of the most conquered lands in history. 00:29:00.94\00:29:05.27 I'll tell you a little secret that one of our tour guides 00:29:05.31\00:29:07.34 told us is there was one ruler. 00:29:07.38\00:29:09.84 I don't know if it was Suleman the Magnificent, 00:29:09.88\00:29:11.88 but one of the Muslim rulers that he decided to tax people 00:29:11.91\00:29:15.88 based on how many trees they had on their land. 00:29:15.92\00:29:19.09 Well, what would you do if you're being taxed on the number 00:29:19.12\00:29:21.72 of trees you have on your land? 00:29:21.76\00:29:24.29 They cut them down. 00:29:24.33\00:29:25.83 Do you know why the homes are so narrow in Holland? 00:29:25.86\00:29:30.20 Because they taxed people based on 00:29:30.23\00:29:32.23 how much street frontage they had. 00:29:32.27\00:29:35.27 So, you know what the people did? 00:29:35.30\00:29:36.71 They built their houses where they were 8 feet wide and 00:29:36.74\00:29:39.14 7 stories tall. 00:29:39.17\00:29:42.31 It's interesting what people do to avoid taxes. 00:29:42.34\00:29:45.21 So, they cut down all the trees in the Promised Land, 00:29:45.25\00:29:47.22 and then they were conquered by a couple of nations who came 00:29:47.25\00:29:49.02 through, and they sowed salt in the land, 00:29:49.05\00:29:53.56 and it destroyed the farming ability. 00:29:53.59\00:29:55.49 And so, the land you see now 00:29:55.52\00:29:57.79 is not like the land there was then. 00:29:57.83\00:29:59.86 Indeed, you read about Job. 00:29:59.89\00:30:02.90 Job talks about his flocks, and his herds, 00:30:02.93\00:30:04.53 and his camels, and his sheep, and his donkeys, 00:30:04.57\00:30:06.27 and all the livestock he had. 00:30:06.30\00:30:08.27 Job lived in an area that is desert now. 00:30:08.30\00:30:11.24 So, the climate has changed in the last 2000, 3000 years, 00:30:11.27\00:30:16.98 from the time of Moses 3500 years ago. 00:30:17.01\00:30:21.32 Things were different back then. 00:30:21.35\00:30:23.69 And God showed him this land that was beautiful, 00:30:23.72\00:30:30.06 farming land, springs of water, lots of vegetation, 00:30:30.09\00:30:34.46 forests, a beautiful land. 00:30:34.46\00:30:37.17 There was fruit. 00:30:37.20\00:30:38.50 They had grapes that were so big, 00:30:38.53\00:30:39.83 it took two men to carry one cluster of grapes back then. 00:30:39.87\00:30:43.07 That's before the Jews even started farming it. 00:30:43.10\00:30:46.04 So, it must have been a beautiful land. 00:30:46.07\00:30:48.31 So, God shows him this because He loves him. 00:30:48.34\00:30:52.61 And it says, "I cause you to see it with your eyes, 00:30:52.65\00:30:55.25 but you will not cross over there." 00:30:55.28\00:30:58.05 So, God gives him this beautiful vision of the land, 00:30:58.09\00:31:02.89 but God tells him then he's got to climb the mountain. 00:31:02.92\00:31:07.03 And you can read here in Numbers chapter 21, verse-- 00:31:07.10\00:31:13.70 Numbers 20, verse 1. 00:31:13.74\00:31:15.57 "The children of Israel, the whole congregation, 00:31:15.60\00:31:17.57 came into the Wilderness of Zin in the first month, 00:31:17.61\00:31:21.18 and the people stayed in Kadesh; 00:31:21.21\00:31:22.64 and Miriam died there and was buried there." 00:31:22.68\00:31:26.92 Who's Miriam? 00:31:26.95\00:31:28.65 Moses's older sister who had saved him. 00:31:28.68\00:31:31.49 Numbers 20, verse 23, "And the LORD spoke to Aaron, 00:31:31.52\00:31:35.29 Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor by the borders of the land of Edom, 00:31:35.32\00:31:38.33 saying: 'Aaron shall be gathered to his people, 00:31:38.36\00:31:41.10 he shall not enter the land that I've given to the children of 00:31:41.13\00:31:43.23 Israel, because you rebelled against My word 00:31:43.26\00:31:45.80 at the waters of Meribah.'" 00:31:45.83\00:31:47.67 So, not only Moses, but Aaron was there with him, 00:31:47.70\00:31:49.77 he could not enter. 00:31:49.80\00:31:51.61 And then with everyone watching, Aaron now takes off his regal 00:31:51.64\00:31:54.98 robes, and he gives them to his son. 00:31:55.01\00:31:57.71 Aaron is basically stripped, and he has to now pass the baton on 00:31:57.75\00:32:04.42 to his son, just as Moses later does with Joshua. 00:32:04.45\00:32:08.56 And it says, "Now Aaron died, and the house of Israel mourned 00:32:08.59\00:32:12.69 for him for thirty days." 00:32:12.73\00:32:14.46 Now you go to the death of Moses. 00:32:14.50\00:32:16.30 We can't have the resurrection of Moses 00:32:16.33\00:32:17.67 until we have the death of Moses. 00:32:17.70\00:32:19.33 Deuteronomy 34, verse 5, "So Moses the servant of the LORD 00:32:19.37\00:32:23.61 died there on top of Mount Nebo." 00:32:23.64\00:32:26.04 Now, that, he climbs this mountain alone. 00:32:26.07\00:32:29.24 That must've been a lonely situation. 00:32:29.28\00:32:32.11 You know, in the book, "Patriarchs and Prophets," 00:32:32.15\00:32:34.92 page 440, the author there comments on this. 00:32:34.95\00:32:38.99 "Moses knew that he was to die alone. 00:32:39.02\00:32:42.22 No earthly friend would be permitted to minister to him 00:32:42.26\00:32:44.83 in his last hours. 00:32:44.86\00:32:46.46 There was a mystery and an awfulness about the scene 00:32:46.49\00:32:48.46 before him, from which his heart shrank. 00:32:48.50\00:32:50.93 The severest trail was his separation from the people 00:32:50.97\00:32:53.90 of his care and his love, the people with whom his interests 00:32:53.94\00:32:57.67 and his life had so long been united. 00:32:57.71\00:32:59.64 But he had learned to trust God. 00:32:59.67\00:33:01.64 And with unquestioning faith, he committed himself to Him and His 00:33:01.68\00:33:05.45 people to His love and mercy." 00:33:05.48\00:33:10.15 Jesus was separated from the Father for our sin, 00:33:10.19\00:33:13.59 and Moses was separated from the people for their sin. 00:33:13.62\00:33:17.86 And he died alone. 00:33:17.89\00:33:19.33 But you know, it's beautiful when you think about it. 00:33:19.36\00:33:22.06 There's a couple of services pastors perform, 00:33:22.10\00:33:27.00 and you've got the baptisms, got marriages, you have funerals. 00:33:27.04\00:33:31.11 Having baptism today. 00:33:31.14\00:33:33.31 Who performed the first marriage? 00:33:33.34\00:33:39.28 God did for Adam and Eve. 00:33:39.31\00:33:42.05 Says he presented Eve to Adam. 00:33:42.08\00:33:47.12 Who did Moses's funeral? 00:33:47.16\00:33:50.13 It says the Lord buried him. 00:33:50.16\00:33:53.50 Wouldn't that be something, as the angels look on? 00:33:53.53\00:33:55.26 This faithful servant, after all those years, 00:33:55.30\00:33:57.93 we read that God is the one who performed the service. 00:33:57.97\00:34:01.47 It says, "According to the word of the LORD, 00:34:01.50\00:34:03.74 he died there, and He," verse 6 of Deuteronomy 24, 00:34:03.77\00:34:07.44 "He buried him." 00:34:07.48\00:34:09.28 You know, you see a picture of God taking the earth 00:34:09.31\00:34:11.08 and making Adam. 00:34:11.11\00:34:12.65 Here you've got God taking the earth 00:34:12.68\00:34:14.85 and covering it over Moses. 00:34:14.88\00:34:17.02 "He buried him in the valley, in the land of Moab, 00:34:17.05\00:34:19.69 opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows 00:34:19.72\00:34:22.26 of his grave to this day." 00:34:22.29\00:34:24.63 Why? 00:34:24.66\00:34:26.13 God did not want them to make it a shrine 00:34:26.16\00:34:28.53 that they would worship at. 00:34:28.56\00:34:30.40 That's the last thing that Moses would've wanted as well. 00:34:30.43\00:34:32.83 So, He hid it. 00:34:32.87\00:34:34.34 "Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. 00:34:34.37\00:34:37.54 His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished. 00:34:37.57\00:34:42.64 And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains thirty 00:34:42.68\00:34:45.61 days," like they did for Aaron. 00:34:45.65\00:34:47.82 "So the days of weeping and mourning for Moses ended." 00:34:47.85\00:34:50.15 By the way, do you realize there's a 100% death rate? 00:34:50.19\00:34:54.16 If Jesus doesn't come, and you're not translated, 00:34:54.19\00:34:57.06 you'll die. 00:34:57.09\00:34:58.39 But there are good ways to die, and there are bad ways to die. 00:34:58.43\00:35:02.06 You ought to do everything you can to die like Moses, 00:35:02.10\00:35:06.20 where you don't die over the last 20 years of your life 00:35:06.23\00:35:10.01 because of bad living habits. 00:35:10.04\00:35:12.34 You know what I'm saying? 00:35:12.37\00:35:14.08 And you're debilitated, you're not functioning. 00:35:14.11\00:35:18.15 You want to be able to be busy 'til the last day. 00:35:18.18\00:35:21.48 In the little church that I used to pastor up in the hills of 00:35:21.52\00:35:25.65 Covelo, this church was really founded by a bunch of retired 00:35:25.69\00:35:28.26 people, but they were all very, very dedicated, 00:35:28.29\00:35:31.39 and they lived a long time. 00:35:31.43\00:35:32.76 We had one member 111. 00:35:32.79\00:35:35.33 And it was interesting that they kind of like fell over in their 00:35:35.36\00:35:40.67 gardens, 95 years old. 00:35:40.70\00:35:43.47 "Yeah, we found Monte." "Where was he?" 00:35:43.51\00:35:45.14 "In his garden." 00:35:45.17\00:35:46.47 You know, they were busy to the end. 00:35:46.51\00:35:48.11 I thought, "That's how you want to go," amen? 00:35:48.14\00:35:51.05 Take care of yourself. And then the Lord buried him. 00:35:51.08\00:35:56.05 Now we've got the resurrection of Moses. 00:35:56.08\00:35:59.02 Jude verse 9, "Yet Michael the archangel, 00:35:59.05\00:36:02.12 in contending with the devil, when he disputed about 00:36:02.16\00:36:05.13 the body of Moses, he dared not bring against him a railing 00:36:05.16\00:36:08.00 or reviling accusation, but he said, 'The Lord rebuke thee.'" 00:36:08.03\00:36:12.93 Now who else rebuked the devil when they were tempted? 00:36:12.97\00:36:17.44 Jesus did. 00:36:17.47\00:36:18.97 Michael the archangel. 00:36:19.01\00:36:21.41 Who is Michael the archangel? 00:36:21.44\00:36:23.04 We've got to talk about that before we talk 00:36:23.08\00:36:24.75 about the resurrection of Moses. 00:36:24.78\00:36:26.98 Now, I always address this with some trepidation; 00:36:27.02\00:36:29.42 because when you tell people what the Bible says on this, 00:36:29.45\00:36:31.72 it can kind of shock them. 00:36:31.75\00:36:34.62 And a lot of people, especially in the Catholic world or the 00:36:34.66\00:36:36.89 orthodox churches, they talk about these angels, 00:36:36.93\00:36:39.63 and they've got Michael, and they've got Rafael, 00:36:39.66\00:36:40.96 and there may be some others. 00:36:41.00\00:36:42.30 And they've named these angels, and they worship them. 00:36:42.33\00:36:43.63 They've got statues of them, and they think they're angels. 00:36:43.67\00:36:48.47 Well, nowhere in the Bible is it telling us that there are 00:36:48.50\00:36:51.67 multiple archangels. 00:36:51.71\00:36:53.61 The word archangel means the highest, or the chief. 00:36:53.64\00:36:57.48 It's like you've got--the word archangelos in Greek, 00:36:57.51\00:37:01.75 it means the highest. 00:37:01.78\00:37:03.32 An arch, a Roman arch, you've got the keystone at the top. 00:37:03.35\00:37:07.22 It was the highest. 00:37:07.26\00:37:08.82 And this is a description of Christ. 00:37:08.86\00:37:11.03 The word angel means messenger. 00:37:11.06\00:37:13.60 Now, alert, now hear this. 00:37:13.63\00:37:16.00 I am not saying that Jesus is an angel. 00:37:16.03\00:37:18.43 Jesus is not a cherub. Jesus is not a seraphim. 00:37:18.47\00:37:22.30 The Bible is telling us that one of the titles for Christ, 00:37:22.34\00:37:25.31 when He would appear in the Old Testament in the form 00:37:25.34\00:37:29.58 of an angel, Christ, it's called a Christophany. 00:37:29.61\00:37:32.05 All theologians agree with that, that when the Lord spoke 00:37:32.08\00:37:35.12 to Abraham--here's one example. 00:37:35.15\00:37:38.15 When Joshua is fighting against the people of Ai, 00:37:38.19\00:37:43.32 it says he saw this man of war. 00:37:43.36\00:37:48.53 And Joshua said, "Are you for us or for our enemies?" 00:37:48.56\00:37:51.90 He said, "Neither, but I've come as the Commander 00:37:51.93\00:37:53.54 of the Lord's host." 00:37:53.57\00:37:55.04 He said, "Take your shoes off your feet; 00:37:55.07\00:37:56.71 for where you stand is holy ground." 00:37:56.74\00:37:58.71 Same thing He said to Moses. 00:37:58.74\00:38:00.94 That was the same Lord who appeared to Moses 00:38:00.98\00:38:04.05 in the burning bush when he took his shoes off the feet. 00:38:04.08\00:38:06.25 Joshua falls down to worship Him and addresses Him as Lord, 00:38:06.28\00:38:10.85 but He appears as the angel of the Lord's army. 00:38:10.89\00:38:13.72 That's Michael the archangel. 00:38:13.76\00:38:15.49 That's Christ. 00:38:15.52\00:38:18.19 Even Moses said, "The angel that will lead you 00:38:18.23\00:38:21.50 through the wilderness." 00:38:21.53\00:38:22.83 And he said, "The Lord will raise up a servant like me. 00:38:22.86\00:38:25.17 Him you will hear." 00:38:25.20\00:38:26.50 That's Christ. 00:38:26.53\00:38:27.84 Now, let's look at some of the evidence that helps us 00:38:27.87\00:38:29.30 understand this. 00:38:29.34\00:38:30.57 First of all, the Bible tells it pretty clearly in Hebrews, 00:38:30.61\00:38:34.04 that Jesus is much higher than the angels. 00:38:34.08\00:38:38.18 Jesus is the eternal Son of God. 00:38:38.21\00:38:41.05 Are you all listening very carefully? 00:38:41.08\00:38:42.58 And especially folks who are watching. 00:38:42.62\00:38:44.25 We're not saying Jesus is an angel. 00:38:44.29\00:38:46.39 We're saying that one of the titles for Christ 00:38:46.42\00:38:48.39 in the Old Testament was Michael the archangel. 00:38:48.42\00:38:50.36 The very name Michael means, "Who is as God." 00:38:50.39\00:38:54.93 The greatest messenger who is as God, that's Jesus. 00:38:54.93\00:38:59.37 You read in 1 Thessalonians chapter 4, 00:38:59.40\00:39:01.77 "The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, 00:39:01.80\00:39:04.74 with the voice of the archangel." 00:39:04.77\00:39:06.44 Who has the voice of the archangel? 00:39:06.47\00:39:09.08 The Lord himself shall descend from heaven, 00:39:09.11\00:39:12.15 the voice of the archangel. 00:39:12.18\00:39:15.02 Daniel chapter 12, "At that time Michael will stand up, 00:39:15.05\00:39:18.52 the great prince that stands for the children of thy people." 00:39:18.55\00:39:21.19 It means He stands in our behalf, 00:39:21.22\00:39:22.52 stands as our intercessor. 00:39:22.56\00:39:23.86 Who is the great prince that stands as our intercessor? 00:39:23.89\00:39:27.60 It's Jesus, right? 00:39:27.60\00:39:29.70 That is, when Christ stands up, and He ceases His intercession 00:39:29.73\00:39:33.30 as--when a judge stands up, this great time of trouble begins. 00:39:33.34\00:39:38.21 Then you also read that it says that Michael comes 00:39:38.24\00:39:41.44 to resurrect the body of Moses. 00:39:41.48\00:39:43.38 Now, there's no record in the Bible of this event. 00:39:43.41\00:39:47.05 There is a Jewish tradition that's probably based on truth, 00:39:47.08\00:39:51.09 that three days after Moses died, the Lord raised him up. 00:39:51.12\00:39:55.72 It's in a book called, "The Assumption of Moses." 00:39:55.76\00:40:00.43 Sometimes it's called, "The Testament of Moses." 00:40:00.46\00:40:02.60 This is an extrabiblical book that's probably written during 00:40:02.63\00:40:05.93 the Babylonian captivity. 00:40:05.97\00:40:07.27 They don't know, but it was based on some traditions. 00:40:07.30\00:40:10.21 And it says after three days God raised him. 00:40:10.24\00:40:12.21 That part's probably true. 00:40:12.24\00:40:14.44 And how do we know that Moses was raised? 00:40:14.48\00:40:19.95 You read about him appearing, and we'll get to that in a 00:40:19.98\00:40:22.22 moment, in the Mount of Transfiguration experience 00:40:22.25\00:40:26.29 you find in March chapter 9. 00:40:26.32\00:40:29.12 So, Revelation chapter 12, verse 7, 00:40:29.16\00:40:34.60 it says, "Michael fought and his angels, 00:40:34.63\00:40:38.60 and the dragon and his angels fought." 00:40:38.63\00:40:40.60 Now, who is the dragon? 00:40:40.64\00:40:44.04 Is the devil really a dragon, or is the word "dragon" 00:40:44.07\00:40:46.84 a symbolic name for the devil? 00:40:46.88\00:40:49.54 Dragon is a symbolic name. 00:40:49.58\00:40:50.88 Then why would we be surprised 00:40:50.91\00:40:52.55 if Michael is a symbolic name for Christ? 00:40:52.58\00:40:56.72 So, when you're reading about Michael in the Bible, 00:40:56.75\00:40:59.72 this is usually a preincarnation title for Jesus, 00:40:59.75\00:41:05.46 the great messenger to our world. 00:41:05.49\00:41:07.36 Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is divine. 00:41:07.40\00:41:10.27 He's eternal. We believe that. 00:41:10.30\00:41:12.10 But in the Old Testament, he's sometimes referred 00:41:12.13\00:41:14.30 to as Michael. 00:41:14.34\00:41:15.64 And by the way, this is not theology of our church. 00:41:15.67\00:41:18.67 Charles Spurgeon, Matthew Henry, many of the great commentators, 00:41:18.71\00:41:21.58 they say the same thing, 00:41:21.61\00:41:23.45 because they have done the detective work. 00:41:23.48\00:41:24.85 They've put the pieces together. 00:41:24.88\00:41:26.35 So, when Jesus comes for the body of Moses after three 00:41:26.38\00:41:30.95 days--another way in which Christ is similar to Moses or 00:41:30.99\00:41:34.86 Moses to Christ, the devil says, "You can't have him." 00:41:34.89\00:41:38.96 Says, "He sinned." And Michael doesn't engage him. 00:41:38.99\00:41:43.43 He says, you know, "He's repented of his sin. 00:41:43.47\00:41:45.97 The Lord rebuke thee." 00:41:46.00\00:41:47.94 And he raises him up. 00:41:47.97\00:41:50.14 You know, the devil is the accuser of the brethren. 00:41:50.17\00:41:52.11 The devil is the one who stood there and accused Joshua the 00:41:52.14\00:41:54.51 high priest and said, "Look at his filthy garments." 00:41:54.54\00:41:57.28 The Lord rebukes him and gives Joshua clean garments. 00:41:57.31\00:42:02.05 The devil is not wanting you to go to heaven, 00:42:02.08\00:42:04.89 but the Lord rebukes the devil, and by God's grace and through 00:42:04.92\00:42:10.49 faith, Moses had repented of his sin, amen? 00:42:10.53\00:42:13.96 So, the Lord can save him. 00:42:14.00\00:42:16.77 And then Moses is raised up. 00:42:16.80\00:42:18.20 Now, I want to read to you 1 Corinthians chapter 15. 00:42:18.23\00:42:21.07 And this is under "The Resurrection of Us All." 00:42:21.10\00:42:23.30 What happened to Moses is something 00:42:23.34\00:42:24.64 we're all looking forward to. 00:42:24.67\00:42:25.97 Can you say amen? 00:42:26.01\00:42:27.94 1 Corinthians chapter 15. 00:42:27.98\00:42:30.95 Now, Paul had a lot of problems with the Corinthian church. 00:42:30.98\00:42:33.88 Among them, they had struggled to believe in the resurrection, 00:42:33.92\00:42:36.95 or they thought it was already passed, 00:42:36.99\00:42:39.12 or that there was no resurrection. 00:42:39.15\00:42:41.39 Paul says, "If there's no resurrection of the dead, 00:42:41.42\00:42:45.19 then Christ is not risen. 00:42:45.23\00:42:46.86 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty 00:42:46.90\00:42:49.16 and your faith is also empty." 00:42:49.20\00:42:51.30 Go to verse 20. 00:42:51.33\00:42:52.63 "But now Christ is risen from the dead, 00:42:52.67\00:42:55.60 and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 00:42:55.64\00:42:59.07 For since by man came death--" 00:42:59.11\00:43:00.84 Now, why does it say Christ is the firstfruits, 00:43:00.88\00:43:03.48 if Moses had already been resurrected? 00:43:03.51\00:43:06.72 Firstfruits does not always mean the first in sequence. 00:43:06.75\00:43:09.58 Firstfruits also means in priority. 00:43:09.62\00:43:12.92 The Presidents' wife is called the First Lady. 00:43:12.95\00:43:15.19 It doesn't mean she was the first lady that made it 00:43:15.22\00:43:16.66 to North America. 00:43:16.69\00:43:18.36 It means that she's given a position of honor, 00:43:18.39\00:43:20.30 of high esteem. 00:43:20.33\00:43:22.76 So, Christ, the firstfruits of those who slept. 00:43:22.80\00:43:26.23 "For since by man, Adam, death came, 00:43:26.27\00:43:29.14 by Man also, Christ, came the resurrection of the dead. 00:43:29.17\00:43:33.31 For in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive. 00:43:33.34\00:43:37.38 But each one in his own order." 00:43:37.41\00:43:38.95 Some people think you die and go right to heaven. 00:43:38.98\00:43:41.22 Moses had a special resurrection. 00:43:41.25\00:43:43.62 But how does it happen for most people? 00:43:43.65\00:43:46.96 Those that are Christ's, afterward at His coming. 00:43:46.99\00:43:51.33 When are they raised? Afterwards. 00:43:51.36\00:43:55.76 And where are the dead now? Sleeping. 00:43:55.80\00:43:58.90 Do they know they're sleeping? No. 00:43:58.93\00:44:00.57 If they're saved and they're dead, 00:44:00.60\00:44:02.44 for them the next conscious thought is the presence 00:44:02.47\00:44:04.27 of the Lord. 00:44:04.31\00:44:05.61 To be absent from the body, to be present with the Lord, 00:44:05.64\00:44:07.84 but they don't feel that now because it hasn't happened. 00:44:07.88\00:44:11.35 We live in time. 00:44:11.38\00:44:12.95 And then finally, you've got it in Mark chapter 9 also. 00:44:12.98\00:44:16.65 I'm going to read to you from Luke chapter 9. 00:44:16.69\00:44:19.72 "Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, 00:44:19.75\00:44:23.36 He took Peter, James, and John and went up 00:44:23.39\00:44:25.29 on the mountain to pray. 00:44:25.33\00:44:27.30 As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered. 00:44:27.36\00:44:30.53 His robe became white and glistening. 00:44:30.57\00:44:33.07 And behold, two men talked with Him, 00:44:33.10\00:44:35.77 and they were Moses and Elijah." 00:44:35.80\00:44:37.71 Jesus, no doubt, addressed them by their names. 00:44:37.74\00:44:40.71 "--who appeared in glory and spoke of his decease, 00:44:40.74\00:44:43.08 which He was about to accomplish." 00:44:43.11\00:44:44.85 Here now comes Moses to encourage Jesus, 00:44:44.88\00:44:49.18 who's going to go to the cross. 00:44:49.22\00:44:50.79 Isn't that something? 00:44:50.82\00:44:52.42 And when Moses had to die and go through his isolation, 00:44:52.45\00:44:56.93 Jesus was there to encourage him. 00:44:56.96\00:44:59.03 Now Moses is coming to encourage Jesus in His sacrifice. 00:44:59.06\00:45:02.56 Because what's going to happen to Moses and Elijah 00:45:02.60\00:45:04.47 in heaven if Jesus is not sacrificed? 00:45:04.50\00:45:07.37 Do they get to stay? 00:45:07.40\00:45:09.20 You can see why they would be very motivated 00:45:09.24\00:45:12.01 to encourage Jesus. 00:45:12.04\00:45:14.91 And it says that 00:45:14.94\00:45:16.81 "He was about to accomplish His sacrifice in Jerusalem. 00:45:16.85\00:45:19.48 But Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep; 00:45:19.51\00:45:21.72 and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two 00:45:21.75\00:45:23.95 men who stood with Him. 00:45:23.99\00:45:25.82 Then it appeared, as they were parting from Him, 00:45:25.85\00:45:27.52 that Peter said to Jesus, 00:45:27.56\00:45:28.86 'Master, it is good for us to be here; 00:45:28.89\00:45:30.96 let us make three tabernacles: 00:45:30.99\00:45:33.16 one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah,' 00:45:33.19\00:45:36.23 not knowing what he said." 00:45:36.26\00:45:38.57 Moses is in heaven now. 00:45:38.60\00:45:39.97 Matter of fact, he can be listening to this lesson 00:45:40.00\00:45:43.30 right now. 00:45:43.34\00:45:45.41 Isn't Moses in heaven? 00:47:55.60\00:47:57.54 Why didn't he love me?" 00:47:57.57\00:48:00.74 And that's soul-shattering for a child. 00:48:00.78\00:48:05.31 My stepfather came into the picture when I was two years 00:48:05.35\00:48:08.88 old, and he was sexually abusing me, 00:48:08.92\00:48:15.89 physically abusing me, and psychologically abusing me 00:48:15.92\00:48:19.86 for many, many years. 00:48:19.89\00:48:22.33 The biggest thought that I can remember back then is having 00:48:22.36\00:48:26.84 my first thought of suicide when I was ten years old. 00:48:26.87\00:48:30.74 And being so afraid all the time, 00:48:30.77\00:48:35.11 but it was causing stomach pains, 00:48:35.14\00:48:37.48 that I would literally be doubled over. 00:48:37.51\00:48:39.71 I just kept thinking, "Why doesn't anyone know 00:48:39.75\00:48:43.55 what's going on in this house? 00:48:43.59\00:48:45.82 Can't they hear him screaming at me? 00:48:45.85\00:48:49.59 You know, don't they notice that something is wrong? 00:48:49.62\00:48:51.96 Don't I seem different? 00:48:51.99\00:48:53.29 I'm not right. 00:48:53.33\00:48:55.26 I'm ten, and I feel like I'm dying. 00:48:55.30\00:48:58.93 Can you not see me?" 00:48:58.97\00:49:01.37 And out of self-preservation, I finally just blocked it out of 00:49:01.40\00:49:05.34 my head for many years and just didn't remember anymore. 00:49:05.37\00:49:11.41 It was very, very lonely. 00:49:11.45\00:49:15.75 I did start drinking when I was 14 years old. 00:49:15.78\00:49:18.92 What had happened was I had a flashback of being molested, 00:49:18.95\00:49:24.43 and it shattered me, and I did not know how to cope with it, 00:49:24.46\00:49:29.53 so I started mixing all different kinds of hard alcohol 00:49:29.56\00:49:33.60 together, and smoking weed, and being sexually promiscuous. 00:49:33.64\00:49:41.01 And that was just the beginning of many years of hell. 00:49:41.04\00:49:50.49 It wasn't until several years later, 00:49:50.52\00:49:53.22 I realized that I needed to get help in order to stop using the 00:49:53.25\00:50:00.26 drugs, because I had been separated from God 00:50:00.30\00:50:04.50 at that point, and I knew that if I didn't get help, 00:50:04.53\00:50:09.80 that there was not going to be God for me anymore, 00:50:09.84\00:50:13.74 that I was going to completely take myself away from Him. 00:50:13.78\00:50:18.08 And something just clicked inside me. 00:50:18.11\00:50:23.39 All my life, I felt like God wasn't there for me, 00:50:23.42\00:50:28.49 and what I realized was that He was. 00:50:28.52\00:50:33.63 I'll never forget the time that I was sitting there in church, 00:50:33.66\00:50:36.60 and there was a silk lithograph of Jesus Christ up on the altar, 00:50:36.63\00:50:41.67 and I could not even look at it. 00:50:41.70\00:50:45.01 Because in my soul, I knew that what I was doing was wrong, 00:50:45.04\00:50:51.18 and I couldn't stop. 00:50:51.21\00:50:54.92 Not even talking about what it was doing to me physically, 00:50:54.95\00:50:58.72 but that brand-new friend that I had found in God, 00:50:58.75\00:51:04.19 I was pulling myself away from Him. 00:51:04.23\00:51:07.76 During that time, off and on, I'd turn on the TV, 00:51:07.76\00:51:11.93 and Pastor Doug would be there. 00:51:11.97\00:51:14.24 And one thing that he always said that caught my eye 00:51:14.27\00:51:17.37 is he always said, "Don't take my word for it. 00:51:17.41\00:51:20.44 Go check your Bible. 00:51:20.48\00:51:22.14 Amazing Facts helped saved my life. 00:51:22.18\00:51:25.95 It took me years, but I finally found, 00:51:25.98\00:51:29.25 I finally found God.
