00:01:48.20\00:01:51.41 Yeah, I see a number of hands, amens, that are going up. 00:01:51.44\00:01:53.74 I know that there's some very rich stuff that we 00:01:53.78\00:01:55.91 continue to look at. 00:01:55.94\00:01:57.38 We're kind of continuing on a similar theme and the next 00:01:57.41\00:02:00.62 Quarterly is going to be entitled, "Rest in Christ." 00:02:00.65\00:02:04.62 "Rest in Christ." 00:02:04.65\00:02:06.15 And that word "rest" is used a number of times, particularly in 00:02:06.19\00:02:09.59 the book of Hebrews, but we also find it in other--a number of 00:02:09.62\00:02:13.76 other places in the Bible as well. 00:02:13.80\00:02:17.73 And so I know that you're going to be blessed by that as well. 00:02:17.77\00:02:20.94 Just an interesting little trivia for us. 00:02:20.97\00:02:24.14 The authors of this particular new Quarterly that we'll start 00:02:24.17\00:02:26.84 to look at in just two weeks' time, is actually authored by 00:02:26.88\00:02:31.75 Pastor Jean Ross's sister and brother-in-law and so we have 00:02:31.78\00:02:37.45 kind of--it's going to be in the family, for those of us here in 00:02:37.49\00:02:40.99 Granite Bay because, of course, many of us know and love Pastor 00:02:41.02\00:02:43.63 Jean and his family very much. 00:02:43.66\00:02:47.40 So we look forward to that. 00:02:47.46\00:02:49.23 Don't forget to take advantage of our free gift offer that we 00:02:49.26\00:02:52.20 have here today--pardon me-- which is "God Drew the Plans." 00:02:52.23\00:02:59.04 "God Drew the Plans." 00:02:59.07\00:03:00.54 This is one of my favorite Study Guides that we have amongst a 00:03:00.58\00:03:03.75 number of "Amazing Facts" Study Guides in a series and this is 00:03:03.78\00:03:07.12 free offer number 129. 00:03:07.15\00:03:09.05 And so if you've never studied the Study Guide, please take 00:03:09.08\00:03:11.05 advantage of that even here today. 00:03:11.09\00:03:12.79 You just dial 1-866-788-3966 and ask for offer number 129. 00:03:12.82\00:03:20.76 Now, we also live in a digital age. 00:03:20.80\00:03:22.40 If you're interested in being able to access this digitally 00:03:22.43\00:03:26.40 and you live in continental North America, then you can 00:03:26.43\00:03:30.34 certainly also find the link by texting "SH135," and you want to 00:03:30.37\00:03:36.18 dial 40544 to be able to take advantage of that 00:03:36.21\00:03:41.22 digital download and offer. 00:03:41.25\00:03:43.05 I want to invite you to join me as we pray. 00:03:43.08\00:03:45.49 Father in heaven, this morning we are thankful for the 00:03:45.52\00:03:47.46 opportunity to be able to open Your Word. 00:03:47.49\00:03:50.59 We want to claim the promise that You have promised since You 00:03:50.63\00:03:53.80 first were on this earth and left the church to be able to 00:03:53.83\00:03:56.80 continue to grow, that You would send the Holy Spirit. 00:03:56.83\00:04:01.14 And that the Holy Spirit would guide us and lead us into all 00:04:01.17\00:04:03.94 truth, open our eyes, and give us discernment and understanding 00:04:03.97\00:04:07.48 in the things that are spiritual in Your Word. 00:04:07.51\00:04:10.05 And so, God, we want to pray that You will bless 00:04:10.08\00:04:12.05 us with that Spirit. 00:04:12.08\00:04:13.58 Give us Your presence, Lord. 00:04:13.62\00:04:15.08 Please bless our pastor and teacher, Pastor Doug, here today 00:04:15.12\00:04:18.62 as he brings the Word of life to us. 00:04:18.65\00:04:22.22 God, we want to pray that You will take it and write it into 00:04:22.26\00:04:24.66 our hearts, each and every word from Your Bible. 00:04:24.69\00:04:27.56 In Jesus's name we pray these things, God, amen. 00:04:27.60\00:04:31.07 Doug Batchelor: I enjoyed listening to our 00:04:32.23\00:04:33.74 young people sing, how about you? 00:04:33.77\00:04:35.87 That's always nice. 00:04:35.90\00:04:37.21 Welcome, friends, those of you who are here alive 00:04:37.24\00:04:42.18 in the Granite Bay Hilltop Church. 00:04:42.21\00:04:44.21 We're glad to welcome you to our Sabbath School program and we 00:04:44.25\00:04:46.41 know that we've got a lot of other people who are watching on 00:04:46.45\00:04:49.52 a variety of outlets, everything from "Amazing Facts Television" 00:04:49.55\00:04:53.92 to 3ABN, Hope, Facebook, YouTube, and it's just wonderful 00:04:53.96\00:04:59.83 to hear the reports of people studying the Word of God 00:04:59.86\00:05:02.33 together with us from around the world. 00:05:02.36\00:05:03.93 We've got a lot of folks out there that are some of our 00:05:03.97\00:05:05.90 online members because they live in a part of the country or the 00:05:05.93\00:05:09.70 world where there is no local church they can attend and 00:05:09.74\00:05:13.34 they're just very thankful that they can be at least 00:05:13.38\00:05:15.24 one of our online members. 00:05:15.28\00:05:16.91 And if you're out there in that category and you have no local 00:05:16.95\00:05:19.15 church that you can attend, you want to know, "How can I 00:05:19.18\00:05:21.95 become an online member?" 00:05:21.98\00:05:23.65 Just go ahead and contact us at granitebaysda.org and 00:05:23.69\00:05:28.82 we'll talk to you about that. 00:05:28.86\00:05:30.16 You can do, you know, Sabbath School and church with us. 00:05:30.19\00:05:33.33 We just can't download a pot luck yet, but 00:05:33.36\00:05:35.23 we're working on it. 00:05:35.26\00:05:37.03 We can't--we can send you a virtual hug. 00:05:37.07\00:05:40.64 All right, our lesson today is lesson 12. 00:05:40.67\00:05:43.00 As Pastor Shawn mentioned, we have one more in this 00:05:43.04\00:05:45.17 series on the covenant. 00:05:45.21\00:05:46.84 This is called "Covenant Faith," and we have a memory verse. 00:05:46.88\00:05:51.58 The memory verse is from Galatians 3:11. 00:05:51.61\00:05:54.62 If you've got your Bible or your lesson open, 00:05:54.65\00:05:56.95 you can read that with me. 00:05:56.99\00:05:58.29 Galatians 3:11. 00:05:58.32\00:06:00.26 You ready? 00:06:00.29\00:06:01.72 "But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, is 00:06:01.76\00:06:07.23 evident: for, the just shall live by faith." 00:06:07.30\00:06:11.77 One of the most famous verses in the Bible. 00:06:11.80\00:06:15.20 Now, when we're talking about the covenant, it's not a bad 00:06:15.24\00:06:18.17 idea to do a little review, you know, I think it's a shame to 00:06:18.21\00:06:21.64 assume everybody listening has already heard all the background 00:06:21.68\00:06:25.38 and then you miss some of the important points. 00:06:25.41\00:06:27.68 When you say the word "covenant," covenant comes from 00:06:27.72\00:06:30.85 the word, it's actually--it comes from an English word that 00:06:30.89\00:06:35.19 comes from a French word that comes from a Latin word. 00:06:35.22\00:06:38.03 I did a little etymology on the word "covenant." 00:06:38.06\00:06:40.76 When you ever say "con" it means with in Latin, 00:06:40.80\00:06:44.63 and it's "convenire." 00:06:44.67\00:06:47.10 It means with agreement, and that, you know, then went to 00:06:47.14\00:06:50.91 French and then went to English until it just came 00:06:50.94\00:06:53.04 out anglicized as covenant. 00:06:53.07\00:06:56.48 But it means it's an agreement. 00:06:56.51\00:06:58.78 And a definition for covenant would be it's usually a formal, 00:06:58.81\00:07:04.22 solemn, and binding agreement or compact. 00:07:04.25\00:07:07.86 A written agreement or a promise usually under seal between two 00:07:07.89\00:07:11.66 or more parties, might be notarized, especially for the 00:07:11.69\00:07:15.66 performance of some action, is a formal agreement. 00:07:15.70\00:07:20.60 Now God saves us under a legal agreement. 00:07:20.64\00:07:25.37 Why does it need to be a legal agreement? 00:07:25.41\00:07:29.44 Because there's law involved. 00:07:29.48\00:07:32.38 We have broken a law. 00:07:32.41\00:07:35.88 And so He makes--God is not only a loving Father, He's not only 00:07:35.92\00:07:40.12 our Savior, He's not only a King, He's a Judge. 00:07:40.16\00:07:43.49 And so the agreement to save us is a legal agreement where He 00:07:43.53\00:07:48.06 has a right to do it because there is a debt that is paid. 00:07:48.10\00:07:53.34 There is a penalty for sin and what are the wages for sin? 00:07:53.37\00:07:58.47 Death. And how many have sinned? 00:07:58.51\00:08:02.08 All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. 00:08:02.11\00:08:04.95 And so God has devised a way in the plan of salvation where He 00:08:04.98\00:08:08.95 will save us but there are terms to the agreement. 00:08:08.98\00:08:11.79 So this is the covenant. 00:08:11.82\00:08:13.12 Now, when we talk about covenants in the Bible, scholars 00:08:13.15\00:08:17.79 speculate there are really seven major covenants in the Bible. 00:08:17.83\00:08:23.06 There's a lot of minor ones. 00:08:23.10\00:08:24.50 Any agreement in the Bible, someone says, you know, 00:08:24.53\00:08:27.54 "You sow my seed and I'll pay you for doing it." 00:08:27.57\00:08:30.31 Well, that's technically an agreement, but the major 00:08:30.34\00:08:31.91 covenants in the Bible are what are called the Edenic Covenant, 00:08:31.94\00:08:37.18 which you would find in Genesis chapter 3. 00:08:37.21\00:08:39.85 It's the covenant that God makes in the Garden of Eden between 00:08:39.88\00:08:43.75 the woman and the seed of the woman and it's the redemption of 00:08:43.79\00:08:46.89 man where the sacrificial system is established. 00:08:46.92\00:08:50.83 You have the Noahic Covenant. 00:08:50.86\00:08:53.33 You remember after the flood, God made a covenant with Noah 00:08:53.36\00:08:56.26 that He would no longer destroy the earth and that 00:08:56.30\00:08:58.87 He would bless him. 00:08:58.90\00:09:00.80 Then you have the Abrahamic Covenant. 00:09:00.84\00:09:02.67 We're going to talk a lot about that in the lesson today, 00:09:02.70\00:09:05.14 so that's three so far. 00:09:05.17\00:09:06.78 Then you've got the Mosaic Covenant and that's the 00:09:06.81\00:09:09.51 covenant, well, in the Ten Commandments you find, says, "I 00:09:09.54\00:09:13.08 gave them My covenant which I commanded them to perform." 00:09:13.11\00:09:16.35 This is actually Deuteronomy chapter 4, Ten Commandments, 00:09:16.38\00:09:19.85 but--so there's the covenant there that He made in Exodus. 00:09:19.89\00:09:22.89 You've got the covenant you find in Levi that He made with the 00:09:22.92\00:09:26.36 sons of Aaron that they would be His priests, 00:09:26.39\00:09:29.33 the Priestly Covenant. 00:09:29.36\00:09:30.93 Then you have the Davidic Covenant where God said that 00:09:30.97\00:09:33.50 through the house of the seat of David the Messiah would come. 00:09:33.54\00:09:37.54 And then, of course, in the New Testament Jesus with His blood 00:09:37.57\00:09:40.41 ratifies the New Testament or the Gospel Covenant. 00:09:40.44\00:09:44.85 Now where do you first find the new covenant? 00:09:44.88\00:09:50.55 In the Old Testament. 00:09:50.59\00:09:52.62 Kind of a trick question. 00:09:52.65\00:09:54.59 Who is the oldest man who ever lived? 00:09:54.62\00:09:58.83 Methuselah--I heard someone got it, they said Enoch. 00:09:58.86\00:10:01.10 It's a trick question. 00:10:01.13\00:10:03.47 Methuselah is the oldest man who ever died. 00:10:03.50\00:10:07.64 The oldest man who ever lived is Enoch; his father 00:10:07.67\00:10:10.07 is still alive, right? 00:10:10.11\00:10:11.41 He's not died yet. 00:10:11.44\00:10:12.74 So the new covenant is found in Jeremiah. 00:10:12.77\00:10:15.98 You find it in the Old Testament. 00:10:16.01\00:10:17.58 And you also find it alluded to in Ezekiel where He said "A new 00:10:17.61\00:10:21.78 heart I will put within you." 00:10:21.82\00:10:23.95 And so those are the main covenants or agreements 00:10:23.99\00:10:26.82 that God has made. 00:10:26.86\00:10:29.09 Does God ever make an agreement or a covenant 00:10:29.12\00:10:31.39 and then fail to fulfill? 00:10:31.43\00:10:34.83 "Not a word of the Lord falls to the ground. 00:10:34.83\00:10:37.47 What I have said I will do." 00:10:37.50\00:10:39.03 Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away; My word 00:10:39.07\00:10:41.67 will not pass away." 00:10:41.70\00:10:43.30 Have you made agreements or covenants with people in the 00:10:43.34\00:10:46.44 past and they fell through? 00:10:46.47\00:10:50.55 Maybe you fell through. 00:10:50.58\00:10:53.38 I think back with some chagrin on a couple of promises I made 00:10:53.42\00:10:56.58 and I didn't keep and it's too late now. 00:10:56.62\00:10:58.72 And I always feel some guilt for that 'cause you want 00:10:58.75\00:11:01.96 to keep your covenants. 00:11:01.99\00:11:03.53 People don't always keep their agreements, but 00:11:03.56\00:11:05.79 God's Word never fails. 00:11:05.83\00:11:07.73 So if God makes a salvation covenant with us, if we embrace 00:11:07.76\00:11:12.00 the terms of the covenant, will He keep His part? 00:11:12.03\00:11:16.20 Isn't that right? He will. 00:11:16.24\00:11:18.57 All right, well, under "Sunday," the first section, it's 00:11:18.61\00:11:20.74 "Reflections of Calvary." 00:11:20.78\00:11:25.68 Why was it necessary for Jesus to die to redeem us? 00:11:25.71\00:11:34.36 Now, some people say, "Well, Jesus died because covenants 00:11:34.39\00:11:36.52 were often sealed with a sacrifice." 00:11:36.56\00:11:39.13 Oh, no, that's true but there's much more than that. 00:11:39.16\00:11:43.03 You know, sometimes people in the old days, they cut their 00:11:43.06\00:11:46.70 wrists and two people would shake hands and they were 00:11:46.74\00:11:49.37 called blood brothers. 00:11:49.40\00:11:51.71 It was like an agreement made in blood. 00:11:51.74\00:11:54.74 Well, the sacrifice of Christ is more than that. 00:11:54.78\00:11:57.28 There is a debt that is being paid and the reason that Jesus, 00:11:57.31\00:12:02.48 the Son of God, had to die is only the Creator had the right 00:12:02.52\00:12:08.32 to pay the debt for the Creation. 00:12:08.36\00:12:11.73 Now this is so important to understand because I know there 00:12:11.76\00:12:15.13 are people out there in the world that question whether 00:12:15.16\00:12:17.33 Jesus was everlasting. 00:12:17.37\00:12:21.20 They say, "Well, no, He at one time was begotten." 00:12:21.24\00:12:23.57 I say, "What, you mean He was created?" 00:12:23.61\00:12:24.91 "No, not created; begotten," they say, "that's different." 00:12:24.94\00:12:27.51 And I say, "No, you're saying that He was not in existence and 00:12:27.54\00:12:30.48 the Father brought Him into existence. 00:12:30.51\00:12:32.28 That's a creation." 00:12:32.31\00:12:33.62 Doesn't matter how you play with the semantics. 00:12:33.65\00:12:35.52 He went from non-existence to existence. 00:12:35.55\00:12:37.55 That means He's created. 00:12:37.59\00:12:39.82 But the Bible says: "All things that were created 00:12:39.85\00:12:42.02 were created by Him." 00:12:42.06\00:12:43.86 Isn't that right? 00:12:43.89\00:12:45.96 So He didn't create Himself. 00:12:45.99\00:12:48.66 And so only Jesus the Creator could die for the Creation. 00:12:48.70\00:12:54.97 Only the King could die for the subjects, and only the law giver 00:12:55.00\00:13:00.61 could die for the law breakers. 00:13:00.64\00:13:02.88 An angel could not have done it. 00:13:02.91\00:13:05.71 It was only God Himself that could do it and that should tell 00:13:05.75\00:13:10.19 you something about the magnitude of sin that the sin of 00:13:10.22\00:13:15.52 one person to be saved would require the death of the Creator 00:13:15.56\00:13:19.83 to fulfill the penalty. 00:13:19.86\00:13:22.26 It should also tell you something about the magnitude of 00:13:22.30\00:13:24.60 God's love for you. 00:13:24.63\00:13:26.87 He didn't have to do it. 00:13:26.90\00:13:28.34 You could pay your own penalty. 00:13:28.37\00:13:30.47 And by the way, many will. 00:13:30.51\00:13:32.64 Because they don't accept the salvation Jesus has offered for 00:13:32.67\00:13:35.58 them, they when--ultimately pay the penalty for their sins. 00:13:35.61\00:13:40.22 So Jesus is the only one who can do that. 00:13:40.25\00:13:45.12 Is there a different covenant of salvation in the New Testament 00:13:45.15\00:13:48.92 and the Old Testament? 00:13:48.96\00:13:51.76 Yes, the Bible talks about the new covenant 00:13:51.79\00:13:54.30 and the old covenant. 00:13:54.36\00:13:55.93 Were people in the Old Testament saved differently 00:13:55.96\00:13:58.63 than people in the New Testament? 00:13:58.67\00:14:01.50 Not really. 00:14:01.54\00:14:03.00 Now, this is so important. 00:14:03.04\00:14:04.54 Are you saved by faith in the new covenant? 00:14:04.57\00:14:08.44 Yeah, but you're saved by works in the old covenant? 00:14:08.48\00:14:13.42 Nobody's saved by works. 00:14:13.45\00:14:15.85 See, this is--I've met in a lot of dear Christians from the 00:14:15.88\00:14:19.12 dispensational tribe, and they say, "Well, the Old Testament, 00:14:19.15\00:14:23.73 they had to be saved by works," as though they could work 00:14:23.76\00:14:26.36 their way into heaven. 00:14:26.39\00:14:27.96 That would insinuate that there were some in the Old Testament 00:14:27.96\00:14:30.47 who successfully worked their way to heaven. 00:14:30.50\00:14:32.67 Isn't that right? 00:14:32.70\00:14:34.57 But no one is going to be in heaven by works. 00:14:34.60\00:14:37.84 The Bible says: "Abraham believed God and it was counted 00:14:37.87\00:14:41.18 to him for righteousness." 00:14:41.21\00:14:42.91 He was given credit for righteousness based 00:14:42.94\00:14:45.65 on his faith. 00:14:45.68\00:14:48.05 Everybody in the Old Testament was saved by faith, looking 00:14:48.08\00:14:51.25 forward to the cross. 00:14:51.29\00:14:52.92 Everybody in the New Testament and now, we are saved by faith, 00:14:52.95\00:14:56.12 looking back to the cross. 00:14:56.16\00:14:57.76 Everybody is saved by faith in the cross. 00:14:57.79\00:15:01.90 There will even be some people in heaven that are there that 00:15:01.93\00:15:04.23 maybe didn't know the name of Jesus but everyone is saved by 00:15:04.27\00:15:07.54 Jesus's name and everyone is saved by Christ's sacrifice. 00:15:07.57\00:15:12.21 And some of these people are going to be in 00:15:12.24\00:15:13.54 heaven 'cause they had faith in God. 00:15:13.58\00:15:15.34 They maybe didn't know a lot about God but God winked at 00:15:15.38\00:15:18.55 their ignorance and-- 'cause He's a merciful God. 00:15:18.58\00:15:22.25 So everyone saved is saved by Christ or saved by faith. 00:15:22.28\00:15:26.02 Nobody is saved by works. 00:15:26.05\00:15:28.49 Now I've heard evangelists, and I've used it myself, use an 00:15:28.52\00:15:32.16 illustration that talks about salvation like a person crossing 00:15:32.19\00:15:35.26 a river and they've got two oars. 00:15:35.30\00:15:39.87 And they've got one oar called faith and they've 00:15:39.90\00:15:43.07 got one oar called works. 00:15:43.10\00:15:45.71 And if you use only faith, the boat goes in circles, and if you 00:15:45.74\00:15:48.94 use only works, the boat goes in circles. 00:15:48.98\00:15:51.68 But if you want to get across the river, you use both. 00:15:51.71\00:15:54.98 That's really a flawed illustration because it 00:15:55.02\00:15:56.62 leaves you with the impression that works contribute 00:15:56.65\00:15:59.75 to your salvation. 00:15:59.79\00:16:01.42 It is true in the Christian life that if you have saving faith 00:16:01.46\00:16:06.59 you will have works. 00:16:06.63\00:16:08.73 So you will see both in the Christian life. 00:16:08.76\00:16:11.73 But we are saved by faith. 00:16:11.77\00:16:13.70 The thief who was on the cross that is saved, was he saved by 00:16:13.74\00:16:17.17 his works in any way? 00:16:17.21\00:16:19.64 Well, there's one work he did. 00:16:19.67\00:16:21.14 You know what that one work is? 00:16:21.18\00:16:23.45 He asked. 00:16:23.48\00:16:25.98 Jesus said, "This is the work that you shall do: to believe on 00:16:26.01\00:16:28.92 the One the Father has sent." 00:16:28.95\00:16:30.95 So you--if you want to call believing and asking a work, 00:16:30.99\00:16:33.66 then you--there's something you must do. 00:16:33.69\00:16:35.56 You must reach out. 00:16:35.59\00:16:36.93 You must ask. And he did that. 00:16:36.96\00:16:39.46 But he didn't do a lot of charitable deeds, he did not do 00:16:39.49\00:16:42.63 a lot of sacrificial mission projects. 00:16:42.66\00:16:44.80 He just accepted Jesus, turned to Jesus, asked for mercy, and 00:16:44.83\00:16:48.44 he was saved by faith in Christ. 00:16:48.47\00:16:51.97 So the good news is that means everybody here today and all 00:16:52.01\00:16:55.14 those who are watching, you can be saved right now by turning 00:16:55.18\00:16:58.55 to Christ in faith. 00:16:58.58\00:17:00.55 So that's the beautiful news of that. 00:17:00.58\00:17:03.45 Now, there's a good quote in your lesson and it's from the 00:17:03.49\00:17:06.52 "Testimonies to the Church, Volume 2," page 213. 00:17:06.55\00:17:10.73 "The scenes of Calvary call for the deepest emotion. 00:17:10.76\00:17:16.06 Upon this subject, you will be excusable if 00:17:16.10\00:17:20.50 you manifest enthusiasm." 00:17:20.54\00:17:22.57 In other words, some people say, "They're getting 00:17:22.60\00:17:24.11 too excited in church." 00:17:24.14\00:17:25.91 Here she says, "When it's talking about the sacrifice of 00:17:25.94\00:17:28.51 Christ for us, you'll be excused if you get too excited, if you 00:17:28.54\00:17:32.78 get too emotional, because it--the sacrifice of Jesus 00:17:32.81\00:17:36.69 on our behalf is the story that should call forth 00:17:36.72\00:17:41.22 the deepest emotion." 00:17:41.26\00:17:43.39 "That Christ so excellent, so innocent, should suffer such 00:17:43.43\00:17:46.36 painful death, bearing the weight of the sins of the world, 00:17:46.39\00:17:49.90 our thoughts and imaginations can never fully comprehend. 00:17:49.93\00:17:53.34 The length, the breadth, the height, the depth of such 00:17:53.37\00:17:56.14 amazing love we cannot fathom. 00:17:56.17\00:17:58.34 The contemplation of the matchless depths of the Savior's 00:17:58.37\00:18:01.41 love should fill the mind, touch and melt the soul, refine 00:18:01.44\00:18:05.65 and elevate the affections, and completely transform 00:18:05.68\00:18:08.88 the whole character." 00:18:08.92\00:18:11.39 One of my personal prayers lately has been that I might 00:18:11.42\00:18:14.62 love the Lord more because the longer I've lived, the more I 00:18:14.66\00:18:19.06 realize that the essence of everything I need in a Christian 00:18:19.09\00:18:23.37 and sanctification boils down to loving God more. 00:18:23.40\00:18:27.47 I don't serve God very well because I don't 00:18:27.50\00:18:30.84 love Him very much. 00:18:30.87\00:18:33.41 Now, I love Him, but I don't think I love Him like I should. 00:18:33.44\00:18:37.68 I think if I loved Him more I'd love you more. 00:18:37.71\00:18:42.82 And vice versa, by the way. 00:18:42.85\00:18:45.95 I think the more that we love God, the better we serve Him; 00:18:45.99\00:18:49.66 the more we love God, the more we love each other; the more we 00:18:49.69\00:18:52.79 love God, the more joyful we are, the better advertising 00:18:52.83\00:18:55.80 agents we are for Christianity. 00:18:55.83\00:18:58.27 All of our problems would be solved if we loved Jesus more. 00:18:58.30\00:19:02.24 So where do you get more love for God? 00:19:02.27\00:19:06.17 Bible says: "We love Him because He first loved us." 00:19:06.21\00:19:10.98 As we look at the place where His love is demonstrated and we 00:19:11.01\00:19:14.82 see His love for us, love begets love. 00:19:14.85\00:19:18.89 Isn't that right? 00:19:18.92\00:19:20.22 And as we see Him on the cross and we see His life of love and 00:19:20.26\00:19:25.26 His mercy and His forgiveness, it should stir 00:19:25.29\00:19:28.10 our hearts and it transforms us. 00:19:28.13\00:19:34.14 I've heard a number of illustrations that bear this out 00:19:34.17\00:19:39.34 but I remember one in particular where years ago this lady was 00:19:39.37\00:19:43.88 married to a scoundrel that had a drinking problem, and 00:19:43.91\00:19:46.45 every night he was down at the saloon with his buddies, and 00:19:46.48\00:19:48.72 he'd come stumbling home late at night and sometimes he'd, you 00:19:48.75\00:19:56.89 know, bring his friends over and his wife was a Christian and she 00:19:56.93\00:19:59.23 was so patient, she was so loving. 00:19:59.26\00:20:01.00 She had no idea that he would develop this problem 00:20:01.03\00:20:03.03 when they first married, and it became a real challenge. 00:20:03.06\00:20:06.74 But she decided to live out the love of Christ, no 00:20:06.77\00:20:08.67 matter how he acted. 00:20:08.70\00:20:12.44 And one day he was at the saloon. 00:20:12.47\00:20:13.84 He was bragging to his friends, he says, 00:20:13.88\00:20:15.78 "I've got the best wife in the world." 00:20:15.81\00:20:17.31 One of 'em said, "I got the best wife in the world." 00:20:17.35\00:20:19.25 And this guy said, "No, you guys have nothing." 00:20:19.28\00:20:21.58 He says, "I want you to come over to my house right now." 00:20:21.62\00:20:23.52 And he brought three or four of his half-drunken friends over to 00:20:23.55\00:20:26.12 his house, and his wife greeted them, and he said, 00:20:26.15\00:20:30.36 "Honey, can you get us something to eat?" 00:20:30.39\00:20:31.86 And she went in the kitchen, started cooking. 00:20:31.89\00:20:33.26 Well, it's like, one in the morning, and she began to bring 00:20:33.29\00:20:37.13 out the food and they took a few bites and stabbed it a little 00:20:37.17\00:20:40.07 bit and they said, "Yeah, Zeb, your wife is the nicest 00:20:40.10\00:20:42.74 wife in the world." 00:20:42.77\00:20:44.21 Said, "Who else would put up with this bad behavior?" 00:20:44.24\00:20:46.47 They all kind of slunk out. 00:20:46.51\00:20:48.81 And he came over--she came over to her husband and 00:20:48.84\00:20:54.32 he was alone at the table now. 00:20:54.35\00:20:55.75 His friends had all left and he was crying. 00:20:55.78\00:20:58.29 And she put her arm around him and said, "What's 00:20:58.32\00:20:59.89 the matter, dear?" 00:20:59.92\00:21:01.86 He said, "Why are you so good to me? 00:21:01.89\00:21:04.86 I don't understand why you're so good to me." 00:21:04.89\00:21:07.40 And she said, "Well, God is so good to me and because God loves 00:21:07.40\00:21:10.63 me so much and He's forgiven me so much, that's how I love you." 00:21:10.67\00:21:15.47 And she said, "By the way," she says, 00:21:15.50\00:21:17.74 "when I die, I've got eternal life." 00:21:17.77\00:21:19.51 She said, "You don't. 00:21:19.54\00:21:20.84 The only happiness you're ever going to have is 00:21:20.88\00:21:22.38 what you have in this life. 00:21:22.41\00:21:23.71 So I'm just trying to make you as happy as you can be." 00:21:23.75\00:21:28.02 And he was so brokenhearted by her response 00:21:28.05\00:21:30.09 that he became a Christian. 00:21:30.12\00:21:32.25 Her love transformed him. 00:21:32.29\00:21:36.73 And it works both ways. 00:21:36.76\00:21:38.19 And so, as we look at the love of God, 00:21:38.23\00:21:40.20 that's where the power is. 00:21:40.23\00:21:41.90 Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrated His own love 00:21:41.93\00:21:45.90 towards us in that while we were still sinners," Jesus didn't die 00:21:45.93\00:21:49.80 for us after we were beautiful loving Christians. 00:21:49.84\00:21:52.74 He died for us while we were mean, ornery sinners. 00:21:52.77\00:21:57.55 He died for people that were cursing His name 'cause 00:21:57.58\00:21:59.88 He still loved them. 00:21:59.91\00:22:02.68 So "Monday" section, "The Covenant in the Sacrifice." 00:22:02.72\00:22:07.72 Let's look here. There's a verse, 1 Peter. 00:22:07.76\00:22:12.13 1 Peter 1:18-19: "And knowing that you were not redeemed with 00:22:12.16\00:22:17.40 corruptible things, like silver or gold," it's interesting that 00:22:17.43\00:22:20.60 he says corruptible because silver and gold don't 00:22:20.64\00:22:22.97 corrupt very quickly. 00:22:23.00\00:22:24.67 They last pretty long, but compared to 00:22:24.71\00:22:26.41 eternity they're corruptible. 00:22:26.44\00:22:29.44 "You were redeemed not with corruptible things, like silver 00:22:29.48\00:22:31.78 or gold from your aimless conduct received by the 00:22:31.81\00:22:34.62 tradition of your fathers," sometimes people would--they pay 00:22:34.65\00:22:39.29 some money for forgiveness, you know, some religions teach that 00:22:39.32\00:22:43.02 you can pay for an indulgence or you can make an offering to 00:22:43.06\00:22:45.96 cover your sin, but Peter said, "No, you were redeemed with the 00:22:45.99\00:22:53.50 precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without 00:22:53.54\00:22:56.97 blemish and without spot." 00:22:57.01\00:22:59.67 So in the Bible, there was an ancient practice of an 00:22:59.71\00:23:05.08 indentured slave, one of the ways they could be freed is if 00:23:05.11\00:23:10.42 they somehow had the money or if a friend would pay their master 00:23:10.45\00:23:14.49 the amount owed to free them from their slavery. 00:23:14.52\00:23:20.10 And this, of course, is what the Lord 00:23:20.13\00:23:21.80 did for the children of Israel. 00:23:21.83\00:23:23.40 He came and He interceded and He saved a nation from slavery. 00:23:23.43\00:23:29.74 There was, like, a redemption price that was paid. 00:23:29.77\00:23:33.44 Some of you have read the beautiful story 00:23:33.48\00:23:35.01 in the book of Ruth. 00:23:35.04\00:23:38.51 You know, the book of Ruth is a love story but the book of Ruth 00:23:38.55\00:23:41.05 is a story of redemption. 00:23:41.08\00:23:43.35 It begins with this family of-- is it Elimelech and his sons, 00:23:43.39\00:23:51.73 Milcon and Malcon? 00:23:51.76\00:23:54.20 And they all die. 00:23:54.20\00:23:56.80 They go to Moab and they all die during the famine 00:23:56.83\00:23:59.03 because they're absent. 00:23:59.07\00:24:00.67 Someone else buys their land and after years, Naomi comes home 00:24:00.70\00:24:06.71 with Ruth but now she's lost her land and the only one that has 00:24:06.74\00:24:09.58 the right to get the land back is a near kinsman who can redeem 00:24:09.61\00:24:15.28 the land by marrying Ruth. 00:24:15.32\00:24:18.89 It's an interesting story, but he basically pays the dowry. 00:24:18.92\00:24:22.19 He marries Ruth and he marries back into the family line. 00:24:22.22\00:24:27.13 And so the whole story is a love story and it's 00:24:27.20\00:24:29.83 also a story of redemption. 00:24:29.86\00:24:32.17 Well, this, of course, is an allegory of Jesus paying the 00:24:32.20\00:24:35.77 redemption for our sins. 00:24:35.80\00:24:38.51 The price of our sins is death and Jesus said, "I will redeem 00:24:38.54\00:24:42.81 you from the law, the curse of the law." 00:24:42.84\00:24:45.58 Everyone who is saved is saved from the curse of the law. 00:24:45.61\00:24:47.98 What's the curse of the law? Is the law a cursed thing? 00:24:48.02\00:24:50.42 Not killing, not stealing? Is that cursed? 00:24:50.45\00:24:52.32 No, the curse of the law is the penalty. 00:24:52.35\00:24:55.12 God saves us, He redeems us from the penalty of death, which is 00:24:55.16\00:24:58.83 the curse of the law. 00:24:58.86\00:25:00.50 Some people think that we're saved from the curse of the law 00:25:00.53\00:25:02.80 and that means we don't have to keep the law. 00:25:02.83\00:25:04.13 Doesn't mean that, it means you're saved from 00:25:04.17\00:25:05.47 the curse of the death penalty of the law. 00:25:05.50\00:25:08.64 And so Jesus does this for us. 00:25:08.67\00:25:11.67 If you look here in 1 John 5, verse 11 through 13: "And this 00:25:11.71\00:25:19.38 is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, 00:25:19.41\00:25:23.69 and this life is in His Son. 00:25:23.72\00:25:26.09 He that has the law--Son has life; he that does not have the 00:25:26.12\00:25:30.19 Son of God does not have life. 00:25:30.23\00:25:32.99 These things I've written to you that believe in the name of the 00:25:33.03\00:25:37.20 Son of God, that you might know that you have eternal life, and 00:25:37.23\00:25:41.07 that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God." 00:25:41.10\00:25:45.04 This is a powerful verse because how many of you would like to 00:25:45.07\00:25:48.04 know--how much better would your day be if you knew 00:25:48.08\00:25:50.41 you had eternal life? 00:25:50.45\00:25:52.75 If you never had to wonder. 00:25:52.78\00:25:55.32 Now that doesn't mean you go round bragging once you're saved 00:25:55.35\00:25:56.95 you can't be lost. 00:25:56.99\00:25:59.05 It means you've got a sweet confidence that you are abiding 00:25:59.09\00:26:01.86 in Christ and you are saved. 00:26:01.89\00:26:03.96 It's healthy for every believer to examine himself every now and 00:26:03.99\00:26:07.40 then, but God doesn't want us always second-guessing our 00:26:07.40\00:26:10.77 salvation because where could you have happiness as a 00:26:10.80\00:26:15.17 Christian if you're always in doubt whether 00:26:15.20\00:26:17.31 or not you're saved? 00:26:17.34\00:26:19.27 Doesn't the joy come from what is righteousness by faith? 00:26:19.31\00:26:22.44 It's having faith that you're saved. 00:26:22.48\00:26:25.48 And so this is very clear in John that, you know, you just 00:26:25.51\00:26:28.38 are living life that you have confidence that He that began a 00:26:28.42\00:26:32.52 good work in you will finish it. 00:26:32.55\00:26:34.09 I think Christians would look a whole lot more happy, a whole 00:26:34.12\00:26:37.56 lot happier, if we believed that we had eternal life. 00:26:37.59\00:26:42.86 So where does that come from? 00:26:42.90\00:26:44.80 Says, "Believing in the name of the Son of God, that you might 00:26:44.83\00:26:48.24 know you have eternal life, that you might continue to 00:26:48.27\00:26:50.11 believe in the name." 00:26:50.14\00:26:51.67 This is one of the most misunderstood phrases. 00:26:51.71\00:26:53.78 How many of you have maybe seen on TV or heard on the radio 00:26:53.81\00:26:57.48 where some pastor is chanting the name of Jesus and claiming 00:26:57.51\00:27:02.48 the name of Jesus and proclaiming the name of Jesus 00:27:02.52\00:27:05.39 and saying, "In the name of Jesus"? 00:27:05.42\00:27:07.42 Now, there's power in the name of Jesus but I think it's one of 00:27:07.46\00:27:09.49 the most misunderstood statements. 00:27:09.52\00:27:12.46 The name of Jesus is not an abracadabra special word that 00:27:12.49\00:27:18.27 you pronounce that sends the devil running. 00:27:18.30\00:27:23.34 And the reason you've got to know that is I know some people 00:27:23.37\00:27:26.01 that say, "If you pronounce the name of Jesus wrong, 00:27:26.04\00:27:29.14 it doesn't work." 00:27:29.18\00:27:32.41 And you've probably met people that have said, "You must also 00:27:32.45\00:27:35.45 pronounce His name in the original Hebrew." 00:27:35.48\00:27:38.05 Now, in English we would say Jesus's name is Joshua. 00:27:38.09\00:27:41.92 In Hebrew you would say, "Yeshua." 00:27:41.96\00:27:44.73 Do you really think God up in heaven is looking down and when, 00:27:44.76\00:27:47.40 at the end of your prayer, you say, "In Jesus's name," He said, 00:27:47.46\00:27:50.53 "Not hearing that prayer, you said it wrong"? 00:27:50.57\00:27:54.57 Well, that's really where this goes if you 00:27:54.60\00:27:56.20 start believing that. 00:27:56.24\00:27:58.54 That--so what does it mean when it says, "In the name of"? 00:27:58.57\00:28:03.61 In the Bible, "in the name of" is talking about to believe in a 00:28:03.65\00:28:07.75 person's name is to believe in them. 00:28:07.78\00:28:10.55 The name denotes the person and their teachings. 00:28:10.59\00:28:15.12 And He talks about those who are baptized in Moses. 00:28:15.16\00:28:17.83 That's 1 Corinthians 10. What does it mean? 00:28:17.86\00:28:20.26 It means they believed in the teachings of Moses, they 00:28:20.30\00:28:22.83 followed Moses through the Red Sea, they were baptized in the 00:28:22.86\00:28:25.27 sea through following and believing in the 00:28:25.30\00:28:27.27 leadership of Moses. 00:28:27.30\00:28:29.34 So when you are believing in the name of Jesus, it's much more 00:28:29.37\00:28:33.58 than the mention of His name. 00:28:33.61\00:28:34.94 It means the teachings of Jesus. 00:28:34.98\00:28:38.25 Those who believe in His name, Jesus says, "Go baptize in the 00:28:38.28\00:28:41.92 name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." 00:28:41.95\00:28:44.19 So when we have baptisms, as we will today, praise the Lord. 00:28:44.22\00:28:47.12 So when we have baptisms and they say, "In the name of the 00:28:47.16\00:28:49.82 Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, if you say the name 00:28:49.86\00:28:53.50 wrong, is the baptism canceled? 00:28:53.53\00:28:57.13 I was at a baptism one time and a friend of mine, who is a 00:28:57.17\00:29:02.10 pastor, was baptizing a member who was from Mexico. 00:29:02.14\00:29:06.34 English was his second language and the pastor wanted to honor 00:29:06.37\00:29:09.41 that and so he learned how to say it, the proclamation, in 00:29:09.44\00:29:13.48 Spanish, which is something to the effect of, "I baptize you--" 00:29:13.52\00:29:17.19 [speaking foreign language] 00:29:17.22\00:29:21.49 I'm sure I messed that up. It's something like that. 00:29:21.52\00:29:24.23 Well, he got flustered and instead of saying, "In the name 00:29:24.26\00:29:26.80 of the Padre," he said "in the name of the Papa." 00:29:26.83\00:29:31.90 Well, Papa is either potato or Pope in Spanish, and neither one 00:29:31.93\00:29:36.47 of those was right. 00:29:36.50\00:29:38.67 So here's the question. 00:29:38.71\00:29:40.01 Afterward, when he realized that he had messed up, did the guy 00:29:40.04\00:29:43.61 need to go get rebaptized? 00:29:43.65\00:29:46.45 Or did God and the angels smile and say, "We knew that you 00:29:46.48\00:29:51.35 believed you were being baptized in the name of the Father, 00:29:51.39\00:29:54.49 Son, and Holy Spirit"? 00:29:54.52\00:29:57.06 Do you know, if a pastor during a wedding-- 00:29:57.09\00:29:58.66 a wedding's a covenant, you know that? 00:29:58.69\00:30:01.26 A wedding is a holy covenant. 00:30:01.30\00:30:02.93 And in a wedding, when the pastor says, "Do you," you know, 00:30:02.96\00:30:07.67 "Bill, take you, Jane," and, ha, 00:30:07.70\00:30:15.68 I don't know if I dare tell you this. 00:30:15.71\00:30:19.41 I mean, wherever your level of respect is before now, it's not 00:30:19.45\00:30:22.52 going to go up any higher, I know, if I tell you this, but I 00:30:22.55\00:30:26.09 don't know if it could go any lower so I'll take a risk. 00:30:26.12\00:30:30.66 You know, when I do weddings, I write in the name of the husband 00:30:30.69\00:30:34.96 and wife so I don't mess it up. 00:30:35.00\00:30:37.63 And then--I do a lot of weddings. 00:30:37.67\00:30:39.73 I don't--I hope you won't disrespect me, but I try to 00:30:39.77\00:30:42.00 tailor them all where they're a little bit unique but they're 00:30:42.04\00:30:44.14 not all completely 100% new. 00:30:44.17\00:30:47.21 So sometimes, I recycle them, say, you know, this is a whole 00:30:47.24\00:30:51.28 different audience, they've not heard this wedding sermon before 00:30:51.31\00:30:53.88 and it's a good sermon, I want to use it again. 00:30:53.92\00:30:55.52 Is that okay? Does that make sense? 00:30:55.55\00:30:58.52 So I'm doing this wedding and I forget to change the names. 00:30:58.55\00:31:02.89 [laughing] 00:31:02.92\00:31:06.56 Do I need to say any more? 00:31:06.59\00:31:10.57 So while I'm doing the wedding, I got--I think I changed the 00:31:10.60\00:31:14.07 girl's name but I forgot to change the guy's name. 00:31:14.10\00:31:17.07 And when I said the name, he went, "Norman?" 00:31:17.11\00:31:23.58 Well, they all got a laugh out of it, and I, of course, 00:31:23.61\00:31:26.11 turned bright red. 00:31:26.15\00:31:28.28 But they were still married at the end of the day. 00:31:28.32\00:31:33.39 So--and I did get his name right before it was all over. 00:31:33.42\00:31:36.16 So the thing to really emphasize though is it's the covenant. 00:31:36.19\00:31:41.66 It's the covenant, it's the teachings of the individual 00:31:41.70\00:31:44.47 being baptized in the name. 00:31:44.50\00:31:46.03 All right, under "Tuesday's" section, 00:31:46.07\00:31:48.80 "The Faith of Abraham, Part 1." 00:31:48.84\00:31:51.61 Genesis 15, verse 6. 00:31:51.64\00:31:53.64 And this is that famous verse that we've quoted already from 00:31:53.68\00:31:56.18 our memory verse: "And he believed in the Lord," now this 00:31:56.21\00:32:00.48 is where God promised Abraham that in spite of the fact he had 00:32:00.52\00:32:03.45 no children, "Your descendants are going to be in multitude 00:32:03.49\00:32:07.29 like the stars of heaven and like the sand by the seashore," 00:32:07.32\00:32:12.16 and even though Abraham is old and he has no children, he said, 00:32:12.19\00:32:16.70 "Lord, nothing's too hard for You; I believe You." 00:32:16.73\00:32:19.70 And because of Abraham's faith, God counted it 00:32:19.73\00:32:22.30 to him for righteousness. 00:32:22.34\00:32:24.77 And, you know, Jesus often said, "Be it unto you 00:32:24.81\00:32:29.28 according to your faith." 00:32:29.31\00:32:32.38 Faith is one of the single most important components, if not 00:32:32.41\00:32:35.08 the most important component in salvation. 00:32:35.12\00:32:38.12 I just typed up a few references here to try to accentuate this. 00:32:38.15\00:32:43.66 2 Samuel 22:31: "As for God, His way is perfect. 00:32:43.69\00:32:48.86 The Word of the Lord is proven. 00:32:48.90\00:32:50.57 He is a shield to all who trust in Him." 00:32:50.60\00:32:54.20 God is a shield for those who have faith in Him. 00:32:54.24\00:32:57.31 Psalm 9, verse 10: "And those who know Your name will put 00:32:57.34\00:33:00.61 their trust in You, for You have not forsaken 00:33:00.64\00:33:04.01 those who seek You." 00:33:04.05\00:33:05.45 Psalm 147, verse 11: "The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear 00:33:05.48\00:33:09.92 Him and those who hope in His mercy," and 00:33:09.95\00:33:12.39 trusting in His mercy. 00:33:12.42\00:33:14.02 Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. 00:33:14.06\00:33:17.76 Lean not on your own understanding. 00:33:17.79\00:33:19.66 In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths." 00:33:19.69\00:33:22.80 It's a great verse for young people getting out of college. 00:33:22.83\00:33:26.20 Proverbs 29:25: "The fear of man brings a snare but whoever 00:33:26.23\00:33:29.87 trusts in the Lord will be safe." 00:33:29.90\00:33:33.17 Isaiah 26, verse 3: "You will keep him in perfect peace." 00:33:33.21\00:33:36.54 Who wants that? 00:33:36.58\00:33:37.95 "Whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You." 00:33:37.98\00:33:40.78 So there again, should a believer have faith? 00:33:40.82\00:33:43.59 Based on what? 00:33:43.62\00:33:45.42 They trust in the Lord. 00:33:45.45\00:33:49.16 Jeremiah 17:7: "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and 00:33:49.19\00:33:53.13 those who hope in God." 00:33:53.16\00:33:55.10 Jesus, when He healed people, He turned around. 00:33:55.13\00:33:58.17 He said to the woman, "Be of good cheer, daughter. 00:33:58.20\00:34:00.04 Your faith has made you well." 00:34:00.07\00:34:03.91 In Matthew 21:21, Jesus answered and said, "Assuredly, I 00:34:03.94\00:34:06.84 say to you, if you've got faith and do not doubt, you'll not 00:34:06.88\00:34:09.44 only do what was done to the fig tree, but you'll say to this 00:34:09.48\00:34:12.08 mountain, 'Be removed and it will be cast into the sea," 00:34:12.11\00:34:14.58 and it will be done.'" 00:34:14.62\00:34:16.32 Over and over through the Bible, 00:34:16.35\00:34:17.79 God talks about the importance of faith. 00:34:17.82\00:34:20.76 "Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, 00:34:20.79\00:34:23.19 you will receive." 00:34:23.22\00:34:24.93 So Abraham is--God is so pleased with Abraham because he believes 00:34:24.96\00:34:29.53 what evidently is impossible and God says, "Look, if you believe, 00:34:29.56\00:34:33.84 I will honor your faith." 00:34:33.87\00:34:36.37 I don't want to overplay this story but you're sitting in a 00:34:36.40\00:34:41.91 building a lot of--there's a lot of faith that went into this. 00:34:41.94\00:34:47.45 I mean, doing what many said was impossible, you know, many times 00:34:47.48\00:34:53.86 I felt it was impossible. 00:34:53.89\00:34:56.09 But I thought, "Lord, I believe if You've put this on my heart 00:34:56.12\00:35:00.40 and the hearts of others, that You will bring it to pass." 00:35:00.43\00:35:03.57 And God never fails, does He? 00:35:03.60\00:35:06.80 So, believe. 00:35:06.84\00:35:09.07 Now, going back to Abraham. 00:35:09.10\00:35:11.54 Romans 4, verse 2 through 5: "For if Abraham was justified by 00:35:11.57\00:35:15.28 works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 00:35:15.31\00:35:19.95 For what does the Scripture say? 00:35:19.98\00:35:22.02 Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him," 00:35:22.05\00:35:25.15 that means it's credited to him, "as righteousness. 00:35:25.19\00:35:28.22 Now to him who works, the wages are not 00:35:28.26\00:35:30.06 counted as a grace but a debt." 00:35:30.09\00:35:32.13 If I go work for you all week long and at the end of the week 00:35:32.16\00:35:35.06 you say, "Okay, I've got a gift for you," and you hand me my 00:35:35.10\00:35:37.23 paycheck, I'll say, "No, sirree, this is not a gift. 00:35:37.27\00:35:40.00 You owe it. 00:35:40.04\00:35:41.54 It is a debt you owe me," right? 00:35:41.57\00:35:44.84 So, it can't be a debt. 00:35:44.87\00:35:47.31 "But to him who does not work but believes on Him who," it 00:35:47.34\00:35:50.25 doesn't mean you don't do good works. 00:35:50.28\00:35:51.65 It means, "But him who doesn't trust in his works, but believes 00:35:51.68\00:35:54.78 on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is 00:35:54.82\00:35:57.82 accounted for righteousness." 00:35:57.85\00:36:01.79 "For the wages of sin are death," Romans 6:23, "but the 00:36:01.82\00:36:04.59 gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." 00:36:04.63\00:36:08.40 So it's a gift. 00:36:08.43\00:36:09.96 Now, going--look at back at Romans 4:20: "Abraham," it's 00:36:10.00\00:36:13.80 saying, "did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, 00:36:13.84\00:36:18.74 but he was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and 00:36:18.77\00:36:21.84 being fully convinced that what He," God, "had promised He was 00:36:21.88\00:36:25.51 able to perform. 00:36:25.55\00:36:27.08 And therefore it was accounted to him for righteousness." 00:36:27.12\00:36:29.88 Okay, that's such a great verse. Think about this for a second. 00:36:29.92\00:36:32.85 What God had promised He's able to perform. 00:36:32.89\00:36:38.03 What promises has God made to you? 00:36:38.06\00:36:41.66 Did God promise that if you come to Me I will in 00:36:41.70\00:36:44.20 no wise let you go? 00:36:44.23\00:36:46.40 Is He able to perform that? 00:36:46.43\00:36:48.94 If you believe. 00:36:48.97\00:36:51.67 Did Jesus promise that He has suffered enough to cover all the 00:36:51.71\00:36:55.08 sins you ever committed or will commit? 00:36:55.11\00:36:58.78 He did. Do you believe that? 00:36:58.81\00:37:03.35 And so you start going through the promises that God has made 00:37:03.39\00:37:05.72 connected with your salvation and it says God is pleased if 00:37:05.75\00:37:08.09 you believe He can finish the work that He 00:37:08.12\00:37:10.19 started in your life. 00:37:10.23\00:37:12.36 This is why faith is so crucial to just your peace. 00:37:12.39\00:37:16.90 Galatians 3, verse 6 through 9. 00:37:16.93\00:37:19.23 This is a often-referenced verse: "Just as Abraham 00:37:19.27\00:37:22.64 believed God, and it was accounted to him 00:37:22.67\00:37:24.61 for righteousness; therefore know that only 00:37:24.64\00:37:27.38 those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 00:37:27.41\00:37:31.65 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the 00:37:31.68\00:37:33.92 Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, 00:37:33.95\00:37:38.22 saying, 'In you all the nations,'" not just the Jews, 00:37:38.25\00:37:41.26 "'but in you all the nations will be blessed.' 00:37:41.29\00:37:44.86 So then those who are of faith are blessed 00:37:44.89\00:37:47.86 with believing Abraham." 00:37:47.93\00:37:50.80 All the promises that God made to Israel belong 00:37:50.83\00:37:52.80 to you if you believe, that's what He's saying. 00:37:52.83\00:37:56.30 All that He promised for Abraham is ours. 00:37:56.34\00:37:58.87 Abraham believed God and it was accounted 00:37:58.91\00:38:01.04 to him for righteousness. 00:38:01.08\00:38:02.44 He was called the friend of God. 00:38:02.48\00:38:04.48 And you see that a man is justified by works 00:38:04.51\00:38:08.15 and not by faith alone. 00:38:08.18\00:38:10.99 So it's interesting that James is saying God--that Abraham 00:38:11.02\00:38:16.09 showed his faith in God when he offered Isaac. 00:38:16.12\00:38:20.43 Now, why did he do that? 00:38:20.46\00:38:22.33 You remember, God said, "Through your seed all the 00:38:22.36\00:38:24.30 world's going to be blessed," and then God says, "Okay, 00:38:24.33\00:38:29.47 I've given you that son. 00:38:29.50\00:38:31.31 It's going to be through Sarah's son, not Ishmael. 00:38:31.34\00:38:34.48 Through Sarah's son, Isaac, all the world's going to be blessed, 00:38:34.51\00:38:36.64 all the nations are going to be blessed. 00:38:36.68\00:38:38.21 Okay, Abraham, let's see if you really believe Me. 00:38:38.25\00:38:40.55 Take him and kill him. 00:38:40.58\00:38:42.72 Offer him for a sacrifice." 00:38:42.75\00:38:45.12 Does Abraham obey? 00:38:45.15\00:38:46.82 He goes to the point of just about bringing down the knife. 00:38:46.86\00:38:49.46 God knew that he was ready to go all the way through with it. 00:38:49.49\00:38:52.59 Why could he do that? 00:38:52.63\00:38:54.50 The key is found in Hebrews 11, verse 17: "By faith when tested, 00:38:54.56\00:39:00.70 Abraham offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promise 00:39:00.74\00:39:05.24 offered up his only begotten son," notice it doesn't talk 00:39:05.27\00:39:08.04 about Ishmael, "of whom it is said, in 00:39:08.08\00:39:10.58 Isaac your seed shall be called." 00:39:10.61\00:39:11.98 Why did he do that?" 00:39:12.01\00:39:13.25 "Concluding," verse 19, "God was able to raise him, even from the 00:39:13.28\00:39:18.22 dead, and which he also received him in a figure." 00:39:18.25\00:39:21.29 It looked like Isaac was dead and he sort of was raised 00:39:21.32\00:39:23.06 up by the angel, just as Jesus was dead and an angel 00:39:23.09\00:39:26.43 opened the prison door so it's a figure of that. 00:39:26.46\00:39:29.43 But Abraham said, "God, You promised through Isaac You're 00:39:29.46\00:39:32.23 going to make me a great nation. 00:39:32.27\00:39:33.74 I don't know how You're going to do it but I believe, 00:39:33.77\00:39:35.44 even if I kill him, You can raise him up." 00:39:35.47\00:39:37.77 Now, there had not been a lot of resurrections in the Bible 00:39:37.81\00:39:40.01 at the time Abraham did that. 00:39:40.04\00:39:42.68 Can you name one? 00:39:42.71\00:39:46.18 Elijah's resurrecting the boy, Elisha resurrecting a boy, 00:39:46.21\00:39:49.88 Elisha's bones resurrecting a man. 00:39:49.92\00:39:52.05 All that came after Abraham. 00:39:52.09\00:39:54.12 So how much faith did it take Abraham to believe that God 00:39:54.16\00:39:57.06 could actually raise Isaac up? 00:39:57.09\00:39:58.96 They'd never seen that. 00:39:58.99\00:40:01.46 So that's why he believed in that. 00:40:01.50\00:40:05.33 And then Genesis 26, verse 4 and 5: "And I will make your 00:40:05.37\00:40:08.10 descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give 00:40:08.14\00:40:11.64 your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the 00:40:11.67\00:40:14.28 nations of the earth will be blessed; because Abraham obeyed 00:40:14.31\00:40:18.25 My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, 00:40:18.28\00:40:21.85 My statutes, and My laws." 00:40:21.88\00:40:23.89 Notice the connection between believing and how does Abraham 00:40:23.92\00:40:27.86 show his belief? 00:40:27.89\00:40:29.42 He "obeyed My voice, kept My charge, My commandments, My 00:40:29.46\00:40:33.73 statutes, and My laws." 00:40:33.76\00:40:35.40 I've got to throw that in for those who think you just believe 00:40:35.43\00:40:37.17 and live like the world. 00:40:37.20\00:40:39.17 The way that you show your belief, "whosoever believeth in 00:40:39.20\00:40:41.90 Jesus shall not perish." 00:40:41.94\00:40:43.74 What does it mean to believe in Jesus? 00:40:43.77\00:40:45.17 Believe in the name and the teachings of Jesus, and that 00:40:45.21\00:40:49.68 means following Him. 00:40:49.71\00:40:51.41 Okay, "Faith of Abraham, Part 2." 00:40:51.45\00:40:56.69 If you look again at Genesis 15:6, we can see that various 00:40:56.72\00:41:01.12 translations reckon the term "that's counted," 00:41:01.16\00:41:04.83 means accounted it to him as righteousness, it's from the 00:41:04.86\00:41:08.66 Hebrew-- [speaking foreign language] 00:41:08.70\00:41:11.70 or reckoned or credited or accounted. 00:41:11.73\00:41:15.94 You find similar examples of that in, like, Genesis 15--or 00:41:15.97\00:41:19.74 Genesis 31:15, the daughters of Laban said, "Are we not counted 00:41:19.77\00:41:24.65 as strangers by him? 00:41:24.68\00:41:26.58 For he has sold us, and also completely consumed our money." 00:41:26.61\00:41:29.38 They're looking--Laban looked upon his daughters as strangers, 00:41:29.42\00:41:33.42 instead of as his daughters. 00:41:33.46\00:41:35.76 Well, God looks upon us as sons, it's the same word, because of 00:41:35.79\00:41:39.73 faith in Christ. 00:41:39.76\00:41:41.70 Leviticus 7:18: "And if the flesh of the sacrifice, the 00:41:41.73\00:41:46.70 peace offering is eaten at all on the third day, it shall not 00:41:46.74\00:41:49.97 be accepted," it'll not be counted, "it will not be imputed 00:41:50.01\00:41:53.51 to him," because that was supposed to be unclean after 00:41:53.54\00:41:56.48 that three days, the time of Christ in the tomb. 00:41:56.51\00:42:01.15 Anything beyond that was considered rotten or unclean, 00:42:01.18\00:42:03.99 and they got no credit for that. 00:42:04.02\00:42:05.49 It had to still be pure. 00:42:05.52\00:42:06.92 So using that same word, God is saying, "I'm giving you credit, 00:42:06.96\00:42:11.03 I'm looking upon you as my own son." 00:42:11.06\00:42:14.23 When you accept the faith and the blood of Jesus in your 00:42:14.30\00:42:16.80 behalf, God looks upon you as thought you have 00:42:16.83\00:42:20.20 the same righteousness as His Son. 00:42:20.24\00:42:21.87 It's counted to you as righteousness. 00:42:21.90\00:42:25.74 So all right, let's move along. 00:42:25.77\00:42:28.84 I've got a couple of things I'm going to have 00:42:28.88\00:42:30.28 to skip or I won't get to this. 00:42:30.31\00:42:31.61 "Resting on the Promises," this is the last section, Thursday. 00:42:31.65\00:42:35.02 And I want to point to 1 Samuel 1:17-18. 00:42:35.05\00:42:39.35 You remember the story where Hannah, she doesn't have a son. 00:42:39.39\00:42:42.92 She's barren. 00:42:42.96\00:42:44.26 Peninnah has got a lot of children. 00:42:44.29\00:42:45.66 Peninnah's persecuting or harassing Hannah and 00:42:45.69\00:42:49.13 making her life miserable. 00:42:49.16\00:42:50.63 Hannah goes to the temple. She's weeping, she's not eating. 00:42:50.67\00:42:53.34 She goes to the temple, she prays, 00:42:53.37\00:42:54.94 and she makes a promise to God: "Lord, if You 00:42:54.97\00:42:57.07 will give me a son, I will dedicate that son to You. 00:42:57.11\00:43:00.21 He'll be a Nazarite, no razor will come upon his head. 00:43:00.24\00:43:03.21 Please have mercy on me. Give me a child. 00:43:03.24\00:43:05.75 Not for me, because I'll give him back to You, but just so 00:43:05.78\00:43:10.22 I'll know that You've not forsaken me and that 00:43:10.25\00:43:12.85 You're still with me." 00:43:12.89\00:43:14.19 And so Eli sees her lips moving. 00:43:14.22\00:43:16.96 He has no idea what she's praying. 00:43:16.99\00:43:18.29 First, he thinks she's drunk. 00:43:18.33\00:43:19.63 She says, "I'm not drunk. I'm just praying." 00:43:19.66\00:43:21.03 He says, "Oh, okay, I didn't understand." 00:43:21.06\00:43:22.40 Now listen to what Eli says. 00:43:22.43\00:43:23.83 "He answers and says, 'Go in peace, and the God of Israel 00:43:23.87\00:43:27.17 grant you your petition which you have asked of Him.' 00:43:27.20\00:43:30.97 And she said, 'Let your maidservant 00:43:31.01\00:43:32.47 find favor in your sight.'" 00:43:32.51\00:43:34.04 Very similar to what Mary said to the angel. 00:43:34.08\00:43:36.81 "So the woman went her way," and notice, it says, "She ate and 00:43:36.85\00:43:43.15 she drank, and her face was no longer sad." 00:43:43.18\00:43:48.22 Was she pregnant yet? 00:43:48.26\00:43:51.53 As far as we know she and Elkanah had not 00:43:51.56\00:43:54.23 even gone home yet. 00:43:54.30\00:43:57.23 Why is she happy? 00:43:57.27\00:43:59.67 She has faith that God has spoken through the high priest 00:43:59.70\00:44:02.14 and God has heard her prayer. 00:44:02.17\00:44:04.41 So what happens as a result of her faith? 00:44:04.44\00:44:07.28 Does she get pregnant? Does she have a son? 00:44:07.31\00:44:10.35 She keeps her promise and God gives her five more kids. 00:44:10.38\00:44:13.35 Be careful what you pray for, amen? 00:44:13.38\00:44:16.95 So automatically, she feels differently and what she's 00:44:16.99\00:44:20.29 prayed for, because she believes, even the priest who 00:44:20.32\00:44:22.72 speaks doesn't even know he's speaking it. 00:44:22.76\00:44:26.16 But because she believes the Word of God, God honors 00:44:26.19\00:44:28.53 and blesses her. 00:44:28.56\00:44:30.53 She resting on the promise. 00:44:30.57\00:44:32.83 Some of you remember the story in the Bible where Nathan the 00:44:32.87\00:44:36.20 prophet told David, this is 1 Chronicles 22, verse 9: "Behold, 00:44:36.24\00:44:41.11 a son will be born to you, who will be a man of rest; and I 00:44:41.14\00:44:44.68 will give him rest from all of his enemies all around. 00:44:44.71\00:44:47.05 His name will be Solomon, for I will give him peace," 00:44:47.08\00:44:50.05 Solomon is similar to shalom. 00:44:50.09\00:44:52.05 "I will give him peace and quietness to 00:44:52.09\00:44:53.79 Israel for his days. 00:44:53.82\00:44:56.12 He will build a house for My name, and he will be My son, and 00:44:56.16\00:44:59.63 I will be his Father; and I will establish the 00:44:59.66\00:45:01.66 throne of his kingdom forever." 00:45:01.70\00:45:03.20 All right, so what does David do as soon as he 00:45:03.23\00:45:05.07 hears that promise? 00:45:05.10\00:45:06.67 He begins to assemble materials, to amass materials, to build the 00:45:06.70\00:45:10.84 temple 'cause he believes the promise of God, the temple's 00:45:10.87\00:45:13.34 going to be built by the son. 00:45:13.38\00:45:15.44 Does it happen? 00:45:15.48\00:45:17.58 Does Solomon build the temple? He does. 00:45:17.61\00:45:20.35 So David has the promise and he acts upon the promise. 00:45:20.38\00:45:23.39 I wonder how many times in life we have missed miracles because 00:45:23.42\00:45:28.32 we don't step out in faith and believe. 00:45:28.36\00:45:31.69 And if you look back over your life, how many times can you see 00:45:31.73\00:45:33.93 that because you believed in something and you went towards 00:45:33.96\00:45:36.83 it, it happened? 00:45:36.87\00:45:38.90 It's not that we performed self-fulfilling prophecies but I 00:45:38.93\00:45:42.60 think faith plays a lot bigger role in our lives than sometimes 00:45:42.64\00:45:46.27 we give it credit for. 00:45:46.31\00:45:48.38 We are out of time, but we made it through most of the lesson. 00:45:48.41\00:45:51.18 I want to remind those who are watching, if you missed at 00:45:51.21\00:45:53.21 the beginning, we have a free offer. 00:45:53.25\00:45:54.98 It's called "God Drew the Plans." 00:45:55.02\00:45:57.02 We'll send this to you by simply asking. 00:45:57.05\00:45:59.32 Call 866-788-3966, that's 866-Study-More. 00:45:59.35\00:46:05.23 Ask for offer number 129 and after you read it, share 00:46:05.26\00:46:09.46 it with to share it with others. 00:46:51.91\00:46:54.48 male: I grew up in a church-going family. 00:46:55.91\00:46:59.15 I mean, we were at every meeting. 00:46:59.18\00:47:00.65 I sang in four of the choirs there, I directed three. 00:47:00.68\00:47:04.92 Very involved, very active. 00:47:04.95\00:47:08.29 It almost seemed like busy work sometimes, you know? 00:47:08.32\00:47:10.99 I went to Sunday school, I knew about God, I knew 00:47:11.03\00:47:14.93 about Jesus. 00:47:14.96\00:47:17.17 But I didn't have a personal relationship with 00:47:17.20\00:47:19.23 Jesus Christ. 00:47:19.27\00:47:21.80 My senior year in high school I got the news that 00:47:21.84\00:47:26.71 my father had been murdered. 00:47:26.74\00:47:30.01 Now, I played it off well. 00:47:30.05\00:47:32.15 No one really saw that I was struggling with it. 00:47:32.18\00:47:38.22 It just really felt like there was a hole that 00:47:38.25\00:47:40.96 needed to be filled and I tried to fill it with 00:47:40.99\00:47:43.63 drugs, with alcohol, with partying. 00:47:43.66\00:47:47.23 After college, I just stopped going to church altogether. 00:47:47.30\00:47:54.37 One day, on a Sunday, 'cause I didn't feel like 00:47:54.40\00:47:56.54 going to church with my mom, I thought, you know, 00:47:56.57\00:48:00.64 "I should get a little bit of Word." 00:48:00.68\00:48:04.18 She had the satellite system hooked up and I'm 00:48:04.21\00:48:06.18 flipping through channels. 00:48:06.21\00:48:07.58 And then the logo pops across, "Amazing Facts Presents." 00:48:07.62\00:48:12.05 I've listened to a lot of different ministers but 00:48:12.09\00:48:14.36 this was the first time that he's actually saying 00:48:14.39\00:48:17.03 something where I had to grab my Bible and actually 00:48:17.06\00:48:19.36 pick it up and I've never heard this before. 00:48:19.39\00:48:22.50 Let me look through and find this. 00:48:22.53\00:48:24.47 I went through all the historicals, I went 00:48:24.50\00:48:26.47 through all the study guides and I just 00:48:26.50\00:48:28.27 couldn't get enough. 00:48:28.30\00:48:29.60 And then the Sabbath came up and he's going through 00:48:29.64\00:48:32.44 the appeal and I'm just going, "Lord, I hear You. 00:48:32.47\00:48:35.94 I have to go to church." 00:48:35.98\00:48:37.68 So I show up. 00:48:37.71\00:48:39.35 It was funny, I didn't feel like I was going to 00:48:39.38\00:48:41.72 be judged, anything judgmental, anything. 00:48:41.75\00:48:45.02 And I walked in the door, and I just felt at home. 00:48:45.05\00:48:48.49 But there's still a problem. 00:48:48.52\00:48:51.56 I'm still partying. 00:48:51.59\00:48:53.06 I was still going out to the bars. 00:48:53.09\00:48:55.33 At this time, I was selling cocaine to pay my rent. 00:48:55.36\00:49:00.30 Sixteen days later, I find myself in a life or 00:49:00.34\00:49:03.34 death situation. 00:49:03.37\00:49:05.14 I had just came back from a liquor store and I 00:49:05.17\00:49:07.64 grabbed a bottle of vodka. 00:49:07.68\00:49:10.38 And there I am, high off cocaine, with my Bible in 00:49:10.41\00:49:14.28 hand, trying to do a Bible study. 00:49:14.32\00:49:18.65 And I heard an audible voice, "Just look at yourself." 00:49:18.69\00:49:25.53 And I did, and I was, like, "What am I doing?" 00:49:25.56\00:49:30.33 And I got on my knees and I said, "Lord, if You do 00:49:30.37\00:49:33.47 not take this away from me now, I'm going to kill myself." 00:49:33.50\00:49:39.37 I was going to continue this lifestyle and I was 00:49:39.41\00:49:41.38 going to end up overdosing, having a heart 00:49:41.41\00:49:44.31 attack, whatever it was. 00:49:44.35\00:49:46.98 "You have to take this away, all of it." 00:49:47.02\00:49:53.09 And that day, He lift it all up and away from me. 00:49:53.12\00:49:57.83 It was all gone. 00:49:57.86\00:49:59.56 When God does something in your life, He does it complete. 00:49:59.59\00:50:05.60 ¤¤¤ 00:50:05.63\00:50:10.64 ¤¤¤ 00:50:13.38\00:50:22.92 announcer: "Amazing Facts" change lives. 00:50:27.79\00:50:33.43 female: Well, my conversion story is when I was in the 00:50:35.90\00:50:39.70 Philippines, I just graduated as a nurse and afterwards I did not 00:50:39.73\00:50:45.67 have any religion and one time I found myself inside a small 00:50:45.71\00:50:51.51 church, Catholic church, in Manila, and before a big cross. 00:50:51.55\00:50:58.89 And I was kneeling before and I could hear Jesus telling me to 00:50:58.92\00:51:04.46 enter the convent, save myself and also my family. 00:51:04.49\00:51:09.16 And I said, "Lord, I would like to follow You all the way." 00:51:09.20\00:51:12.20 At that point, I seemed to be happy externally, but because 00:51:12.23\00:51:16.77 inside the convent we don't read the Bible, we don't study about 00:51:16.81\00:51:21.08 the Word of God. 00:51:21.11\00:51:22.84 We prayed the rosaries, we also at the same time studied the 00:51:22.88\00:51:26.92 lives of the saints and also our founders, and the encyclicals of 00:51:26.95\00:51:31.92 the Pope and the Virgin Mary. 00:51:31.95\00:51:35.22 And so I do not know the truth and I had this torture of 00:51:35.26\00:51:38.36 conscience, the guilty feelings that cannot be resolved. 00:51:38.39\00:51:43.23 So I would confess to the priest in the confessional box, saying, 00:51:43.26\00:51:47.07 "Father, forgive me, since my last confession was last week. 00:51:47.10\00:51:52.04 Since then I have committed the following 00:51:52.07\00:51:53.98 sin," including the root cause. 00:51:54.01\00:51:56.61 Why am I falling and falling in that same 00:51:56.64\00:51:59.65 sin over and over again? 00:51:59.68\00:52:02.28 And still for 21 long years, I struggle and I 00:52:02.32\00:52:06.59 struggle and I struggle. 00:52:06.62\00:52:09.29 I realized that I was totally empty, I was totally 00:52:09.32\00:52:14.10 helpless and hopeless. 00:52:14.10\00:52:16.06 And so depressed and so desperate that I would like 00:52:16.10\00:52:20.04 already to end my life. 00:52:20.07\00:52:22.27 I was working for five years as dean of the University of San 00:52:22.30\00:52:26.78 Agustin College of Nursing in Iloilo City, one of the islands 00:52:26.81\00:52:31.55 in the Philippines. 00:52:31.58\00:52:33.15 After five years I received a commission from my parents to 00:52:33.18\00:52:38.75 help my sister who is being a battered woman. 00:52:38.79\00:52:43.02 This is one of the reasons why I came over to United States. 00:52:43.06\00:52:48.00 It is because my sister needs my help. 00:52:48.03\00:52:51.97 As I was working in the hospital in New York, my boss-- 00:52:52.00\00:52:55.37 he was so gracious enough to give me an invitation 00:52:55.40\00:52:59.87 to the Millennium Prophecy. 00:52:59.91\00:53:01.91 As I was listening to Pastor Doug Batchelor's presentation, 00:53:01.94\00:53:06.58 my heart really was beating so fast, and my mind, I'm able to 00:53:06.61\00:53:11.82 grasp the truth, that this is the truth that I've been longing 00:53:11.85\00:53:17.36 to hear all my life, that I have been seeking for so long. 00:53:17.39\00:53:22.66 My personal relationship with Jesus, I can see Jesus 00:53:22.70\00:53:27.40 as my personal Savior. 00:53:27.44\00:53:29.74 He is not only the Savior of the whole world but He is my 00:53:29.77\00:53:33.71 personal Savior. 00:53:33.74\00:53:35.71 He was the one who delivered me mightily from the depths of sin, 00:53:35.74\00:53:41.58 from the mighty clay. 00:53:41.62\00:53:43.32 Pastor Doug Batchelor has been used by the Lord 00:53:43.35\00:53:47.06 in my conversion. 00:53:47.09\00:53:48.56 The Amazing Facts, I owe to them. 00:53:48.59\00:53:51.76 The Lord really blessed this ministry and I'm so proud I was 00:53:51.79\00:53:57.13 able to attend this Millennium Prophecy. 00:53:57.17\00:54:00.77 My life has never been the same. 00:54:00.80\00:54:03.54 It has given me the peace, the joy, that never--I have never 00:54:03.57\00:54:10.08 tasted in my life, and now I am set free to be able 00:54:10.11\00:54:15.02 to work for Him and to follow Him. 00:54:15.05\00:54:18.32 announcer: "Amazing Facts" change lives. 00:54:31.13\00:54:35.30 male: I met my ex-wife, and her family were 00:54:38.74\00:54:41.04 real big into drugs. 00:54:41.08\00:54:42.48 And it started out with them wanting me to go 00:54:42.51\00:54:45.11 to the doctor to help get them drugs. 00:54:45.15\00:54:47.45 And you know, I'm noticing they're going to the doctor, 00:54:47.48\00:54:50.09 they're coming back with like 60 pills, 00:54:50.12\00:54:51.99 and they're selling these pills for like 1,000 bucks. 00:54:52.02\00:54:54.39 And I'm thinking, "Wow, this is a lot of money I'm giving 00:54:54.42\00:54:57.63 these people, so I'm just going to start selling it myself." 00:54:57.66\00:55:00.86 My problem with that was that we had all this money, 00:55:00.90\00:55:04.30 but we was absolutely miserable. 00:55:04.33\00:55:06.60 She would go out and sleep with other guys to get drugs, 00:55:06.63\00:55:10.77 and that ended my marriage. 00:55:10.81\00:55:12.94 But during this time, I have to get a job to build back up 00:55:12.97\00:55:15.98 to where I was at, to open my shop again, 00:55:16.01\00:55:18.35 so I get a job at Food City. 00:55:18.38\00:55:19.91 And when I get this job at Food City, 00:55:19.95\00:55:22.52 there's my wife now, Rebecca. 00:55:22.55\00:55:24.65 She's a cashier there. 00:55:24.69\00:55:26.42 And when I walk in, she's the most beautiful girl 00:55:26.45\00:55:28.99 I've ever seen in my life. 00:55:29.02\00:55:30.69 I was like, "Man, I could never have a girl like that. 00:55:30.73\00:55:34.30 Wow, she's so beautiful." 00:55:34.30\00:55:35.76 But as I'm working with her, she's actually kind of mean to 00:55:35.80\00:55:38.60 me, and she's saying, "I don't want anything to do with you. 00:55:38.63\00:55:42.60 Get away from me," stuff like that. 00:55:42.64\00:55:44.71 But you know, I just keep being nice to her and keep tryin' 00:55:44.74\00:55:47.54 to give her my phone number. 00:55:47.58\00:55:49.04 And it's around Christmas Eve, we'd just been dating 00:55:49.08\00:55:52.71 for a little while, moved in together, 00:55:52.75\00:55:54.78 my ex-wife shows up with my three children 00:55:54.82\00:55:57.82 that I had by her. 00:55:57.85\00:55:59.29 And she's like, "Here's your kids. 00:55:59.32\00:56:01.12 Here's their birth certificates. 00:56:01.16\00:56:02.46 Here's their social security cards. 00:56:02.49\00:56:04.33 I'm done." 00:56:04.36\00:56:05.73 And we were starting a family, we already have three kids. 00:56:05.76\00:56:08.63 During this time, we spent the next year watching nothing but 00:56:08.66\00:56:12.37 "Amazing Facts" on YouTube. 00:56:12.40\00:56:14.50 I didn't even know they even had a website at this time. 00:56:14.54\00:56:16.64 I just knew that this little guy on YouTube was super smart, 00:56:16.67\00:56:20.14 was teaching Bible, and I wanted to follow him. 00:56:20.18\00:56:23.68 I wanted to be a Christian. 00:56:23.71\00:56:25.01 I gave my life to God now because of these truths 00:56:25.05\00:56:27.45 that I'm learning from Doug Bachelor. 00:56:27.48\00:56:29.85 Just because Doug taught it didn't make me real sure 00:56:29.88\00:56:32.79 about going to this church. 00:56:32.82\00:56:34.22 I really didn't want anything to do with it. 00:56:34.26\00:56:36.19 But I called the guy up and I'm telling him, 00:56:36.22\00:56:38.59 and I'm not very nice about it actually. 00:56:38.63\00:56:40.96 I'm telling him, "Look, we was thinkin' about coming 00:56:40.96\00:56:42.93 into your church," and he's really nice. 00:56:42.96\00:56:45.57 He's like, "Well, you're more than welcome to. 00:56:45.60\00:56:47.90 We'd like to have you come." 00:56:47.94\00:56:49.50 And I'm like, "Well, hold on. 00:56:49.54\00:56:50.84 I'm going to lay down some ground rules." 00:56:50.87\00:56:52.67 I'm tellin' him, I said, "Look here, 00:56:52.71\00:56:54.01 I'm covered in tattoos and I'm a tattoo artist," 00:56:54.04\00:56:56.78 and he don't say, "Well, you know, wow. 00:56:56.81\00:56:59.28 I didn't know all that. Don't come to my church." 00:56:59.31\00:57:01.22 He says, "You're more than welcome. 00:57:01.25\00:57:02.88 We would love to have you. 00:57:02.92\00:57:04.79 Please come." 00:57:04.82\00:57:07.09 He asked me what I want to do and I said, 00:57:07.12\00:57:08.59 "Well, I want to preach." 00:57:08.62\00:57:10.86 I said, "I have all these truths. 00:57:10.89\00:57:12.56 I have all this knowledge, stuff I've never known before, 00:57:12.59\00:57:15.36 stuff if I'd've had when I was younger that would've been 00:57:15.40\00:57:17.83 life-changing to me," I said, "I got to share this 00:57:17.87\00:57:21.74 with the world." 00:57:21.77\00:57:23.07 I said, "I want to preach. I want to teach." 00:57:23.10\00:57:25.71 He gives me the book, says, "Study that." 00:57:25.74\00:57:27.74 Well, now that I'm a Bible worker, 00:57:27.78\00:57:29.11 I'm able to go reach people that most of the normal churches 00:57:29.14\00:57:33.31 wouldn't even bother to even speak to. 00:57:33.35\00:57:35.48 I'm able to go out and reach the people who have lived 00:57:35.52\00:57:38.62 the life that I've lived. 00:57:38.65\00:57:39.99 I'm able to let them know that I am like you. 00:57:40.02\00:57:43.43 I've been there. I've done that. 00:57:43.46\00:57:45.76 I want to show you what my life is like now. 00:57:45.79\00:57:48.20 I'm want to teach you this Bible. 00:57:48.23\00:57:50.07 I want to show you what Jesus can do for you. 00:57:50.10\00:57:52.73 It's not too late. 00:57:52.77\00:57:54.37 ¤¤¤ 00:57:57.07\00:58:04.71 ¤¤¤ 00:58:07.18\00:58:17.16 ¤¤¤ 00:58:17.19\00:58:23.47 ¤¤¤ 00:58:23.50\00:58:29.50
